Good evening, welcome to the Stade

de France in Paris. It is over a

month since Wales' World Cup dreams

were crashed. As Chris Coleman

weighs up his future, the team are

back for a friendly against France -

one of the best teams on the planet.

It's been the toughest of times for

Wales since that game in Cardiff.

It

goes down the right, crosses in the

box. It is a goal! A goal for

Ireland. It is James McLean and yet

again a World Cup has eluded Wales.

But all that is history. Tonight is

a new chapter for Wales and a chance

to test themselves against one of

the best. . France on the attack

again. Mbappe and that is a special

goal.

Cillian Mbappe one of best

players in the world. Many people

say France could win the World Cup

in Russia next year. France and

Wales meeting for the first time

since June 1982 when Ian Rush scored

in a 1-0 win in Toulouse. Wales

returning for the first time since

Euro 2016 when they reached the

semi-finals. Memorable days for the

side. Good evening and welcome to

the Stade de France, delighted to

say we have James Collins with us.

James, fabulous to see you. Recently

announcing your international

retirement, but I bet you wish you

were out there?

Yes seeing the boys

warm up is something I will miss.

But my time was right to finish. The

boys to take it forward.

You have

been a wonderful servant for Wales

and we will miss you. What do you

make of tonight's occasion, it is a

big game for France, but a big game

for Wales in terms of getting over

the heartbreak?

Yes, everyone's

still hurting from what happened

against Ireland and not qualifying.

But it is time to look forward and

nowhere better than against a world

class team.

Also we have Helen Ward

with us. What do you expect?

I'm

expecting a good game. It will be a

big test. It is a team full of world

class players in France, but no

pressure on the boys and let's hope

they can do a job.

Jack do you go

along with those who say France

could win the tournament?

Yes they

did well in the Euros and this they

will be hurting still. But it is a

squad full of talent and if you look

at the front line, on their day they

could tear any team apart.

Here are

the teams. James, Neil Taylor is

back after the sending off in

Dublin.

He has put out the strongest team.

To come to a place like this and

make too much changes would be

tough. Taylor is back in and

deserves to come back in.

Helen,

Chris Coleman resisting the

I expect him to come on at

some point. But he has gone with his

strongest team, tried and tested and

they have an opportunity to start as

they mean to go on in terms of the

next phase of where the team is

going. I do expect to see some young

players in the second half.

A French

newspaper said France perhaps lacked

a leader and said Mbappe is the man

that will be crucial next year?

He

is young, but he inspires everyone

around him. When you're in a team of

special players, Wales have it with

Gareth Bale, you have a player of

that quality he could win you a

game. France will feel that about

Mbappe, he is quick and direct and

he scores goals. That is a massive

thing at international level.

Don't

forget this is no Lloris this

evening. Many say he is the best

keeper in the Premier League and

they have Kante. They have the spine

of a team.

Yes I would like at them

as a favourite, they could bring a

player to do a job. They're a real

force. They have world class players

all over the pitch and it will be a

tough night for the boys.

Wales very much at a cross roads in

terms of its development, Chris

Coleman is weighing up his future,

we will look at a dramatic few

years.

The Stade de France, Paris,

France against Wales - the final

that never was. Those heady summer

days last year when Wales strode

into a semi-final. The crowning

achievement. The next stop was ments

to be the World Cup -- meant to be

the World Cup. But now their at a

juncture.

A goal for Ireland,

Williams' mistake is punished.

In

the immediate aftermath, Chris

Coleman said the World Cup campaign

would be his last in charge. But has

Wales' failure to qualify changed

his mind?

I look at it, am I the

right man for the job. I also look

at it, whatever this job is and what

ever it has to offer, is it the

right job for me? Have I got

everything I need? The next step is

much tougher. If I don't think I

have got what I need to take it on,

I wouldn't mess about with what's

been achieved in the last six years.

I don't need to take that gamble.

Negotiations about Coleman's future

can wait, what Wales are interested

in tonight is the future of the

team. These games are the chance to

show the conveyor belt is still

working.

The last game showed the talents of

Tom Lawrence and Ben Woodburn.

Shooting chance. Goal. What a goal

Step forward a new Welsh hero, his

name is Ben Woodburn.

They will need

to come to the forein Paris. It may

be a friendly, but Wales are without

Bale and those given a chance to

shine tonight will know what's

expected of them.

If you want to

achieve and go for something big,

its means you're happy to be out of

your comfort zone and be happy to

put yourself out there where you can

fall flat on your face. We did that

against Ireland. These team, they're

used to playing in big games. They

won't get it right every time, but

they have the appetite and they know

what it means to play for Wales and

they want to achieve more and they

will, with or without me, I'm

convinced of that.

There are so many

great young players coming through

the ranks. What do you think when

you look at Chris Coleman, he has

been linked with the Leicester post,

the Everton post, often in the book

makers oozed. Will he -- book makers

odds. Will he go?

It is a tough

decision for him. It is one he is

going to call, whether he wants to

go back into club management. If he

does go, he has left our country in

a great place footballing-wise. What

he has done for our country,

whatever decision he makes, we have

to respect it.

You know him very

well and the players, the players

within hours of losing against the

Republic of Ireland said, please

reconsider. Do you think he will

stay?

I hope he stays for

experiencing his management with the

national team. All the boys, you

know, or did enjoy working under

him. He would be a loss. He's

tremendous manager, a great man

manager and to come in such

circumstances as he did and to take

our team to the level we are at

would be a huge loss. Fingers

crossed he stays.

Helen?

I mean, I

would like to see him stay, he

brought this team up to the level

they're at. Sometimes with a manager

it just clicks with a certain job or

role and obviously that is the case

withes Chris. I would like to see

him stay. There is a lot of life

left in this team and I think he is

the man to lead them.

If they're

listening to you.

It is a tough one,

because will he ever reach the

heights again that they did in the

Euros. There is the worry of the

what if, would he want another crack

at club football. He must look at

the squad and be excited, with

Woodburn and brooks and Lawrence.

Those are young, exciting players

with a mix of experienced players

but not so old. So it is still an

exciting squad and a squad that can

still go places.

When you look at

Chris Coleman, he is ambitious, we

have to be honest and say will that

happen again? Make he fancies a

crack at the Premier League?

Yes and

the Premier League is a massive

stage for anyone and to achieve

success there would be a big thing

for him. But you know the only

person who knows what he wants is

Chris. As much as everybody might

hope to keep the job, it is up to

him.

Ashley Williams, he had a

difficult shall we say couple of

months.

He has with the Wales game

and at Everton, but he is such a

good player, he can get over these

things quickly and he is such a good

player and a Goodlad. I'm sure we

will see the best of him. What do

you think has happened to Ashley,

Jack? You go through good periods

and not so good periods, but he is a

massive character on and off the

pitch what. A great place to come

and bounce back, playing some of the

best in the world. I'm sure he will

be on the top of his game. He will

look to make a real impact at

Everton.

Coleman.

What do you want to get out

of this match?

You know what, it is

the one thing we have always

promoted, the one message we have

given them in the last five or six

years, as soon as you put the jersey

on you're representing Wales, that

is the big pest accolade you can

have, so at least you give what you

have got. The pride is still the

same. As I said yesterday, and the

passion, that shall never change. I

don't expect it to change. This is a

game we need after last month and

the disappointment that we all

suffered, the whole nation. This is

a tough game for us, it is a great

stage for us, I think it ticks all

the boxes, it is good for our

younger players to see what we're

like. This is right in the

spotlight. But this is why we're in

football, to play against the best

teams in the best stadiums.

Talk us

through your team selection.

I have

gone with a lot of experience. We

have some good young players, but we

have got to be careful when and

where we choose to give them

exposure. They may get some minutes

tonight, they will definitely get

some minutes on Tuesday against

Panama. So tonight the team is very

experienced. It is a familiar shape.

With the three central defenders.

Wing-backs. And Adam will be playing

just off Vokes with Ledley and Allen

and King. A wealth of experience in

there and we are going to need that.

There will be long spells where we

will be without possession. We have

to be organised and compete, that is

what we have always done, nine times

out of ten they have done that. We

have to do that again tonight. Chris

coalman there -- Coleman there. We

are expecting 60,000 here. Here is

A good atmosphere

here, and bonsoir. Let's pick up on

a few things, a tried and tested

side, but Chris Coleman mentioned

some of the inexperienced players

will play.

Only Woodburn and Ampadu

at the most. You can't flood it with

youngsters. It is too dangerous,

against this opposition, they're

quality throughout and it could do

young players a lot of damage as

well as a lot of good.

Take us to a

mind set of a player, when you see

that French team sheet, are you

excited or are you scared?

No,

you're excited. You're going to go

into battle, regardless of who

you're up against, you can get a

result. If you look at the Euros and

people like Belgium, a lot of people

wrote us off and we know how that

turned out.

You can hear the

clapping they're getting. Very

excited, Jason.

We have had the

Icelandic thunder clap here as well.

Fantastic atmosphere here and this

of course is the venue where France

won the World Cup back in 1998, led

by Zinedine Zidane. Many of the

French newspapers and their

journalists are saying the class of

2018 will again lift the biggest

prize in world football.

France were European champions in

1984 and an established superpower

of the sport. Tonight's venue, the

Stade de France was the site of

their greatest triumph - lifting the

World Cup and uniting a nation in

1998. Two years later they were

crowned kings of Europe again,

beating Italy in extra time in

thrilling fashion.

France have won

the European Championship.

The

captain on both those occasions, the

current manager, Didier Deschamps.

He led them to the quarter-finals of

the 2014 World Cup and back to

another European final last year.

But there was no repeat of the

Parisian fairy tale for the French.

After ending Welsh hope, Portugal

did the same to France here in the

final. This time, it was the Bleus

at the receiving time of extra time

drama. France qualified comfortably

for next year's World Cup, topping a

tough group, which included Sweden

and the Netherlands. That was the

very least the French public

expected. Now, the serious business

begins. Preparations for the

competition itself.

A big friendly

game. I was a bit sad for my friend

Aaron, because they didn't qualify.

It could have been maybe the last

Euro final.

They have a squad that would be the

envy of most other countries.

Familiar Premier League face in the

form of Olivier Giroud and Anthony

Martial and Mbappe at just 18, the

second most expensive player in

history and a man whose young

shoulders will carry the weight of

the nation's expectations. No wonder

they're one of the favourites to win

the World Cup.

In terms of attacking

flair, James, when you look at

Mbappe, Martial, Lacazette,

Griezmann, can you think of another

nation on the planet that has that

abundance of riches up front.

When

you say things like that, it makes

me happy I'm up here!

They're top

drawer, world class players. It is

another great choice they have got

who they're going to play at the

World Cup. One man we have not talk

about and he is not here and that is

Paul Pogba.

Yes. The fact we haven't

mentioned him goes to show what

talent they have already and we have

mentioned they have a World

Cup-ready squad.

Do you think, Jack,

the fact, and I was here for that

Euro 2016 final and when Ronaldo

went off, the whole stadium thought,

this is it. Griezmann really carried

the nation through. Until that final

and he only got four goals and many

say perhaps we are not seeing the

Griezmann we saw in 2016, but you

can't write somebody like that off.

No, he has proved, he was top scorer

at the Euros. He can do it at the

top level. Only four in qualifying,

but now he is more of a marked man.

People will be watching him for him

and Giroud and Lacazette. It is hard

to man mark people, and I'm sure he

bill a danger. James

You played

Giroud what, does he bring to the

side.

Every time I played again him

I have a tough game. Every time he

plays he scores. He is strong and he

has the pace. He is probably not

their first choice, but another

world class centre forward.

We will

be interested to see Lacazette

probably coming off the bench, he is

still feeling disappointed about

being left out against Manchester

City last week?

Yes he will be

another play we are unbelievable

talent and he will be ready to come

in and make his mark. It is

frightening to look at the forwards

they have.

The players have been

talking about how hurt they have

been missing out on the World Cup,

this is a perfect opportunity to

overcome that?

What a place to

bounce back. That has hurt not

obviously not qualify being, you're

playing some of the best players in

the world, an incredible stadium. It

is set for a great match and

obviously great chance to close the

end of that last chapter and start a

new one.

You played in that

semi-final, what are these moment

like walking out at one of great

sporting venues in the world?

It is

undescribable. Walking into a

stadium like this, as a player, you

don't realise until you look at it,

because you're focussed on the game.

To play in a stadium like the this

tremendous for the lads and to get a

good result and clear the minds

would be great.

We get disappointed

with friendlies. Sometimes they can

be a damp squib. But not tonight.

No, how often do Wales get to face

one of the top teams. It is a

fantastic opportunity to show the

world we are about.

Who did you play

against in the warm ups.

My second

game against Holland. What a great

experience and I think I was 19 at

the time. You look at some of the

young players on the the bench, will

they get the experience tonight? And

I'm sure ten or 15 years they will

look back and thishgs think I was

out there.

It is a long road back,

what is the message from Chris

Coleman. Is it just enjoy it?

Yes I

don't think it is a night for

playing too much youngsters. It

could be a tough night for the lads,

to put too many of the younger lads

on could be damaging. It is a tough

game and it will be tough for these

lads, but we have done it before.

The French MC or the stadium

announcer is going through every

single player and we can barely

ourselves think. There is 60,000

fans here, imagine what this is like

when 80,000 are inside. Let's hear

before the teams come out once again

from the Wales manager.

I'm looking

forward to it, 75,000 people, we

will have loads of Welsh men and

women and children supporting us,

singing the national anthemment all

of those things mean everything to

me.

So it is that moment where the

pundits and presenters standing

pitch scythed dread. -- pitchside

dread.

It could be a tricky night,

hopefully not lose too heavily.

I

said earlier I'm going for a narrow

Wales win. I will stick with that.

I

love that, I will take a 3-3. A

cracking game.

Wales are unbeaten in

the last five away games under Chris

coalman. Their best run since 1984.

They last wept went six unbeaten in

Two of the finest anthems you're

ever likely to hear I would suggest.

As the two sides cross for is

do wonder just how many of the Wales

replacements will be on tonight. If

you look at the French substitutes,

well, when they can leave the likes

of Lacazette, Martial and such on

the bench, you know just how strong

a team they are. The Wales subs, I

wonder how many of the youngsters,

the uncapped youngsters,

particularly Brooks and Ampadu, will

get their chance or will they have

to wait for Panama on Tuesday. Ewan

Roberts is with me. What a lovely

stadium.

It is magnificent. Never

been here before. But it is, as soon

as you walk in, it is wow! It is

huge. It is not full, but it is a

healthy crowd and it is the perfect

game for the team to bounce back

from that disappointment of not

reaching the Cup. Yes, it is only a

friendly, but it is a friendly

against one of the favourites, if

not, specially in the top two, to go

to Russia and win the World Cup and

one thing is for sure, we are going

to have to be at our very best to

get anything from this game

his future, as you heard before the

game. He said all talk of his

contract ends for this game and

another of the World Cup qualifiers,

he made a bit of a or licks off. --

Can't get

any possession. Giving it away

cheaply. The first chance France

had, Ramsey on the away line. A

sloppy pass and that led to the free

we have a throw in down this

They have not played many friendlies

lately. They have lost only two the

last 20 qualifiers.

And for all that his form maybe this

season hasn't been the best, he

knows where to get to, Williams.

He

puts himself in the right areas as a

defender. A good habit.

I knew it came off a part of

his body, but I wasn't too sure.

nobody or knocking it down to a

French player. Both wing-backs can

do a lot more, get on the ball a lot

more.

half. Just the one defeat in

qualifying, that was against Sweden

away. But they won Group A pretty

convincingly. Four points clear of

Sweden, who are in the play-offs. A

group that also included the

Netherlands, they won't be at the

World Cup either. So Wales are in

pretty good company there.

years. That is a phenomenal record.

Who would have been elated had he

been able to tuck that one away.

Probably Wales' one and only chance

in this first half.

four. They have not got out of

second gear. It has been so

comfortable for them.

Lawrence was

the one change other than injure Ji

from the team that lost -- injury

from the team that lost to the

Republic of Ireland.

Coman up against King. Short to

Mbappe. An injection of pace from

Mbappe and Allen stuck with him and

got the decisive touch. And Taylor

got a bit of luck with the

clearance.

Just that flick of the

switch - yes, the slow build up, but

then something triggers and the move

the ball so quickly.

Mbappe is

electric.

I think at the moment Chris Coleman

will be happy do get to half-time

just a goal down.

There is more to Griezmann than just

being a dangerous striker. Griezmann

again by Gunter. In the right place

And Griezmann is robbed at the vital

moment as he was about to pull the

trigger.

to do. Look at how quickly they move

the ball. Players showing plenty of

optionles. It is -- options. It is

lovely to watch.

again.

At the moment, all the problems are

with Chris Coleman. I wouldn't say

France are at full pace.

I think

when they reach our final third,

that is when they come alive and the

movement comes in, the passing

quickens up.

That is a lovely cross and Williams

read it. Just as well. Giroud was

right there.

He had made a good run,

Giroud. Williams in the right place

once again.

And that is the half-time whistle.

It was a difficult 45 minutes for

Wales. Griezmann has scored the only

goal. His 19th for his country. You

have to say Wayne Hennessey will be

disappointed with the fact that

Griezmann's close range effort beat

him. And Wales have struggled to

make anything happen at the other

end. And Griezmann didn't worry

about Hennessey's discomfort. Chris

Gunter the only Welsh player with an

effort on goal - that was saved

fairly easily

by Steve Mandanda.

James you said

after 20 minutes it could be a long

night?

Yes it looks that way. To

concede when we did was tough.

Probably going in fortunate just to

be 1-0 town. 1-0, we are still in

the game and with a chance of

getting back into it.

Take us into

that tunnel, you have been there

recently, who is talking, who is

doing all the dissecting and who is

talking about the match?

The lads

will be chatting among themselves

and the gaffer will speak. When

you're out there it is a different

game. Be I think we are trying to

keep the ball a bit too much in our

own half and they look keen to press

and pounce and wanting us to pass

and we have getting caught. The

gaffer will have a few things to

talk about.

He has got a few

decisions. I wonder what he will do

in that second half too get some

pace and upset the French defence.

Yes it is the right way to play, to

keep the ball and move it. But

sometimes against opposition like

this you can't and you're going to

get caught out. I would like to see

us move up the pitch a bit and play

more in their half and see what

happens from there.

plenty of class and it has been a

very tough half for Wales.

they have struggled, but let's not

take anything from the French

performance. It has been impressive.

We knew it would be a tough night

and they haven't disappointed. Maybe

disappointed we haven't kept the

ball better. The times we have had

we have created opportunities.

Yes, the front four, their movement

is phenomenal and it is a struggle

for the back line.

One thing that

Chris Coleman will have to talk

about is keeping their discipline.

You saw Williams kicking the ball at

Mbappe when he was down. A bit of

afters between Hennessey and Giroud.

Wales naturally are going to feel

frustrated, because nothing is going

right for them.

Yes it is tough,

you're pinned in your half for 45

minutes and you're work hard and we

have touched on the movement of the

French front players, it is so hard

to pick up. It is important that

Williams keeps his cool, keeps his

focus, keeps talking to those around

him and tries to enjoy the next 45

minutes and enjoy the challenge.

The

fans here are loving watching this

France side, there is a real bleach

and togetherness and -- real belief

and togetherness. And sheer class

for the goal.

It is a great ball in.

It is a difficult skill to react.

But he has connected well and a run

in behind Davies and fantastic

connection. But I think Hennessey

will be disappointed. It is a good

connection. But it is more or less

straight at him.

But the

intelligence and the timing of the

movement is incredible and to

execute that volley is no easy feat.

If you don't hit the target, you

don't score.

You expect an

international and a Premier League

goalkeep tore save that?

Yes, and

they touched on it in commentary, he

is not playing as much as he would

like and it has been a tough start

when he did play. He is coming in a

bit rusty. But he would expect to

make that save and you know he has

done in the past and kept Wales in

games plenty of times and a man of

his quality will be disappointed.

To

watch Mbappe at full pace is a joy

to watch. Some of the tricks and

flicks between him and Griezmann and

Coman have been great. You can

understand why Wales are struggling.

The fluidity and their movement is

nibble. They're well aware of --

their movement is incredible.

They're looking for spaces. And that

impossible space to mark between

defence and midfield. And when you

have play wloers can play them

passes, they're hard to mark. Up

bappy -- Mbappe, 18 and he has no

fear.

They know where each other is

all the time and are looking for the

one-twos and when you get into those

areas for a defender, it is hard to

make a challenge. You don't want to

give away a foul. It is impossible

to deal with and they look like

they're enjoying themselves.

Wales

mad a chance with -- had a chance

with Gunter. Should he have scored?

We were quite far away. Wales have

got one or two passes together. A

good bit of quality and great to see

him getting bodies in the box. It is

not an easy opportunity. But you

would like him to have a go and hit

the target.

Is that a penalty there?

Could be. That is the first time we

have seen it. We were quite a way

away. But I would be wanting it.

Definite pen come on!

James?

Yes, I

didn't see it originally, but

looking back on it it is a penalty.

Your thoughts on the way Griezmann

and Mbappe have caused mayhem?

They

have, I think we have done ourselves

our own trouble. We keep trying to

play out and they're waiting for us

to play and pressing and doing what

they're doing. I would like to see

us move up the pitch and maybe play

over the press more and play

football in their half.

in tier two, but we have decided not

to apply for the top two and

effectively relegating ourselves.

That is an amazing decision,

considering women's football is

going from strength to strength.

Yes, we are disappointed as players

and staff, but it is things out of

our control. All we can do is finish

the season on a high and what comes

at the end is a different matter and

players will make their own way into

different paths and clubs.

It has been a tough half. You have

to stand back and admire what the

French side is doing. It is a

special, special side of course.

Sometimes we have been pushed back,

that back three has become a back

five. But we are still in the game.

There is only one goal between us

and we have seen Taylor cross the

ball and Gunter get a chance to

equalise. We are still in the game.

The goal, there was the quality of

finish, but Hennessey has to save

that?

Tinge big disappoint -- I

think the big disappointment, Wales

were comfortable in their shape, all

the players were behind the ball and

that movement from Griezmann showing

why he is one of best in the world

and Wayne will be disappointed. It

is an opportunity. It is almost a

snapshot. He gets the shot off

early. But still in the game.

Hopefully we can create more

chances.

Second half, are you

expecting Chris Maninder Coleman to

make a lot of changes?

I don't know.

I think the decision to play an

experienced side is correct. When

you see what the French team are

capable of, it is too soon for the

young players. But why not give them

an opportunity to be on the same

pitch as these top players.
