Nine rounds of matches left in this

season's Premier League,

and while we're pretty sure who's

winning it, there's still much

to play for in the run-in.

Frank Lampard and Jermaine Jenas

We begin with one of English

football's great fixtures -

Manchester United versus Liverpool.

Liverpool advanced

to the quarterfinals

of the Champions League this week,

while on Monday, United produced

a thrilling comeback to take

the points at Crystal Palace.

Manchester United have won every

Premier League game this season

in which they have scored first.

They are irrepressible

at the moment.

This was a really dangerous ball.

James Milner, who is a current

is unlikely to be popular in front

of the Stretford End.

And a great chance

for Virgil van Dijk.

He did all the hard work

to get there, and then it

came off the shoulder,

not his head.

That really should be going

in the back of the net for Van Dijk.

It is a let off for

Manchester United.

Lukaku out muscles

Lovren, finds Mata.

Rashford, and it is 2-0!

Cool as you like, Marcus Rashford.

He has two in 24 minutes.

How about this for

a return to the side?

Lukaku involved, and Mata.

It came off van Dijk.

Rashford still had a lot to do.

But the thought of missing never

seemed to cross his mind.

That is twice now Lukaku

has outmuscled Lovren,

and Liverpool have paid both times.

tried to run into it.

One of the stranger statistics

from this game so far

is that Liverpool now lead

and a big appeal.

The Liverpool fans probably didn't

have the best view of it,

there were a few Liverpool players

appealing vocally as well

against Antonio Valencia.

I don't think the arm

is moving to the ball,

nor do I think it is in

an unnatural position.

Liverpool are showing

some signs of life.

It is an own goal from Eric Bailly.

Liverpool are back in this game.

Bailly at his near post gives

Liverpool a lifeline.

Good pace for Mane to get on and get

away from McTominay.

Not a popular decision.

Well, dissent amongst

the ranks at Old Trafford.

Three huge back-to-back

victories for Jose Mourinho.

They came from behind

to beat Chelsea.

They came from behind

to beat Crystal Palace.

And they have hung

on to beat Liverpool.

Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool.

Liverpool come with everything.

The press is never tired

to say how good they are.

But the reality is that I don't

remember a dangerous

situation to our goal.

But it was controlled

by them having the ball,

controlled by us not

having the ball.

It is one of those type of games -

at times, you have to defend.

To concede two goals like that,

almost identical, it is frustrating.

It makes it such a difficult

afternoon for ourselves.

The goals we conceded

were both long balls,

Lukaku in the second ball situation,

so Romelu Lukaku is one of the best

strikers in the world,

especially in these aerial duels.

We need to pick up the ball

then, and we were not.

I think everybody thought it was

a penalty with Fellaini and Sadio.

Roberto and Sadio,

completely free in the box.

The human brain is a complex thing,

and a defeat leaves a bit of damage,

and the victory and happiness makes

miracles in your condition,

even in your fatigue,

so it was the best thing that

could happen to us, the best thing.

Mr Paul Pogba!

The best thing was to win

this match, and in these

moments, we are second,

and we want to try to do

everthing to stay there.

Paul Pogba intervened,

he wasn't part of the plans today,

he had to pull out.

But United look as though

they have a different kind of feel.

The withdrawal of Paul

Pogba yesterday fell

into Jose Mourinho's lap.

We were talking about,

could he get his best

in his best positions

in the starting XI?

And he managed to do that today

and get a better balance throughout

the team as a whole.

People knew their jobs,

particularly without the ball,

and that is what he wants.

He released Sanchez further

up the pitch, and this

is where you want him,

nearer to Lukaku, and when you get

the ball, Mata on the right,

Matic and McTominay in midfield,

and it carried on

throughout the game.

This is a job that Pogba struggles

to do, particularly in big games

where you need someone to defend

for you, shield the back four.

Another thing they did

was be aggressive.

Step forward and win

the ball and move forward.

The critical matchup of the game

was Lukaku and Lovren.

This was an early warning sign,

I can beat you in the air

without a problem.

So Lovren knows he has a problem.

He needs to bring Emre Can up

to help him, don't let

Lukaku have free rein.

He loses it and gets manhandled,

and now Rashford knows

he is already on his way.

Alexander-Arnold really

struggling to get back here,

he should have covered that run

earlier, and then it is all

about Marcus Rashford,

that was brilliant.

The balance to cut back

inside and stick it in the far

corner, that is why I think

he will be in Russia this summer.

Same again here, nobody

to protect him in front.

And again, we're seeing

a Manchester United player gamble,

you know he has a chance to win it.

Mata makes a great run in the box,

he doesn't get it, but he attracts

every Liverpool defender inside.

And that is what happens when you're

organised in your game,

and Manchester United in the first

half were very impressive.

He seems to do it in the big games

against big opposition.

It is good to see him

playing, I think Gareth

Southgate will be pleased?

He hasn't played since Boxing Day,

it is not easy to keep

yourself on the edge,

and he showed he was on the edge.

Players like him are a premium,

they are quick and can score

goals, and that worked

for Manchester United today.

I don't think you could leave

him out of your squad,

you need to have him there.

Liverpool were playing well today,

you felt that they were

a little too narrow?

They had so much possession.

They almost dominated

this second-half.

I thought they were so wasteful

with it, on the basis they were too

narrow at times and didn't test

United's back four.

Playing to United's

strengths all the time.

This is blocked by Matic, but when

they are working these passes,

they are trying to find that

ball that opens them up,

if you just have a look,

you could throw a blanket

over all of them.

I'm asking for width.

Robertson is there.

That is not width.

That is width.

Get on the by-line and cause Mata

a problem and get balls

into the box and get in behind.

When they had the width,

look at the spaces that appear.

Lallana at the bottom.

An option.

They decide to go

through the middle.

Another gap they have opened up

by having that width.

The challenge from Fellaini

is clumsy, I have to say.

But there were too many

occasions where they decided,

we will go through the middle.

This time it's Wijnaldum

who came on in place

of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Not wide enough.

In his defence, he's a midfielder.

He likes to play in

the middle of the park.

United set up, they can't

get the cross in.

They work it out to James Milner.

Again, a midfield player.

Wants to cut on to that right foot.

It was too easy for

United to deal with.

I personally think that Jurgen Klopp

got his substitutions wrong.

You mentioned one penalty shot

you felt Liverpool might have had.

A couple in the game.

The Liverpool fans

feel hard done by.

feed told me that.

Have they got a point?

They do.

With the first one, particularly.

It can go either way, this one.

The thing that kind of makes me

think they should have got this

one is the distance.

I personally think 12

yards is enough space.

I know there is pace

on the ball for you to get

your arm out of the way.

It is struck cleanly.

If this doesn't hit Valencia's arm,

it was going straight

to the path of Mane.

This is a penalty.

Jurgen Klopp said it after the game.

Great one-two, Fellaini

knows he's in trouble.

Leg across him.

It's a trip.

A foul.

Would be a foul

anywhere on the pitch.

It's a penalty.

Unlucky on that one.

Jurgen Klopp never one to shy away

from showing his emotions.

Newcastle and Southampton are two

teams with relegation worries.

Both were just above the bottom

three ahead of a huge

game at St James' Park.

Watching was Alistair Mann.

is Newcastle's top-scorer with five

goals, only one of which has been

here at St James' Park.

No Premier League team has

scored fewer home goals,

only West Brom have earned

fewer home points.

Jonjo Shelvey is included

among three changes.

He had been a doubt.

With three weeks to Newcastle's next

game, he is selected.

Since McCarthy took over,

he has not lost any of the six away

games in which he has been involved.

With six of their last nine league

fixtures on their travels,

away points will be

crucial to Southampton.

It was about 10 degrees colder

In the end, Hoedt and McCarthy

were on the same wavelength.

A couple of times maybe they have

chosen the wrong option,

as the rain becomes steadier

The contrast in emotions

could not be greater.

Newcastle, well, it is

a joyous day for them.

Southampton, it's becoming a day

of misery, soul searching

and plenty of questions.

It was so easy.

Shelvey just easing

towards the edge of the area.

Ritchie, unmarked, in space,

with time, and he's shouting for it.

When he gets it, he just gently

puts it into the corner

of McCarthy's goal.

Southampton, they are in a mess.

Newcastle, climbing away

from the bottom three.

Southampton getting

ever closer to it.

Six of their last nine

games are away from home,

two of their three home games

are against Manchester

City and Chelsea.

That's why there is pessimism among

the Southampton supporters.

This was a decent effort

on an afternoon when they haven't

Well, they respond in their numbers,

sell-outs week on week.

This is only the fifth

home win of the season.

They have enjoyed

every minute of it.

We knew it was an important game

against a team that was close

to us in the table.

We needed to do well.

The way that the team

was approaching the game,

the intensity, the team

spirit, the workrate,

how we play,

how we move the ball

on the counter attack.

A lot of positives,

that is the way you want to get

three points and stay up.

The first goal, in the first

minute, it was a massive

impact on my players.

From this moment, I have said,

OK, we couldn't react.

Overall, the spirit

of the team was really poor.

Without spirit, without character,

this is the big pity today.

It's difficult to stand here, five

minutes after the end of the game,

and not put emotions in it and not

feel very angry and use bad words

and blaming things and then yourself

and everything, but...

I don't know.

You still think with eight games

to go that you are the man who can

keep Southampton in the Premier

League?

I am the Southampton

manager right now.

You are confident

you can keep them up?

For sure.

If not, I have to move along.

But football got the thing,

sometimes when one side are winners,

the other side loser.

But loser can be one week

and the other week, you can change

everything on one victory.

This is part of our life

and part of our football.

Great day for Newcastle,

as well as we've seen

them play this season.

They were brilliant.

They had a plan.

Aggressive and bullied

Southampton at times.

I felt Southampton didn't

know how to handle them.

They really didn't.

The intent and aggression

It was a reoccurring theme

of how the game went.

Some of their passes they put

together were so smooth

and forward passes, like that,

into spaces where Ritchie is taking

himself off the line.

Causing Southampton all kinds

of problems all afternoon.

I honesty felt it was more

to do with just kind

of putting your foot in.

Letting Southampton know

you were there today.

Making sure they got the job done.

That is exactly what they did.

Look at the space that

Ritchie finds himself in.

How much time do you want?

This is a team that has struggled

to put games to bed of late.

They killed that one off this

afternoon and made sure

they got the three points.

Southampton, by contrast,

were abysmal, weren't they?

Worrying times.

Abysmal, shocking.

Borderline disgraceful at times,

I really do think so.

They didn't really seem to have

any plan, in contrast

to what Newcastle had.

A lot is passing for

the sake of passing.

He needs to make that

run into the channel.

Make things happen.

Players take the easy

option too often for me.

Coming short again, drifting around.

Everything is done at half tempo.

When this ball comes in,

it was like, we are taking that.

No real support when that ball goes

in to sustain the attack even.

Lemina can turn there, possibly.

Start playing the ball forward.

No, we will go side to side.

Eventually, it comes to nothing.

I could have pulled out

at least three or four clips

of incidents like that.

This one really frustrated me.

Lemina is on the ball.

Asking for the ball.

Can your team-mates help you out?

We are under pressure.

Tadic, come into that hole.

Stephens, drop deeper.

Give me an option to

get out of trouble.

No, we will stand and watch

our mate in trouble.

That's exactly what they do.

Dwight Gayle should

have stuck that away.

I mentioned the runs

they are asking for.

Redmond is asking him to make a run.

He came short, can you make

a run to the channel?

He doesn't.

Look at the frustration.

Somebody make a run

and make something happen.

I fear for them right now.

We will see the remaining fixtures.

they have are away from home.

It will be a tough run for them.

Tough and momentum is

completely against them.

When a manager talks about spirit,

you are in big trouble.

That is not a players'

responsibility, it's

everyone's responsibility,

but they are playing

possession football,

with no goals either end.

If they play without any intensity,

and that slow game that Jermaine

explained, they are in big trouble.

about coming and then backtracked,

and then for the second time today,

uses his legs to good effect.

opportunities in the first half

to strike first and failed,

It is the last thing that

West Ham United's players need now,

silly supporters to get

involved in the situation.

This is ridiculous.

This is where you need

security to do their jobs

rather than the players.

Well, it was always

a tense atmosphere here.

Just turned a bit toxic

there for a few moments.

Let's see how West Ham United's

players can respond.

They need to stay focused.

Burnley certainly mean business now.

They sense the opportunity

to go for the kill.

Chris Wood and Barnes

wait in the middle.

Here is Barnes again,

and now it is Lennon.

And it is in from Wood!

It is a long way back for West Ham

now, and I can't help but conclude

that the interloper, and we had more

than one who came on,

might have just interfered

with the concentration

of the West Ham United players.

It certainly didn't help the cause.

And in front of me here, and I'm

just sat behind the directors' box,

there are a handful of vociferous

supporters making their way

towards the directors' box,

and to say they look angry

is an understatement.

This is turning ugly.

Those supporters less than 20 yards

away from the West Ham United

owners, and we have got another

West Ham fan who has come

onto the pitch and grabbed

hold of the corner flag

and is making his way

to the centre spot.

I have never seen such scenes

at a Premier League venue.

It is getting noisier and angrier

with each passing minute.

West Ham look in a very sorry state,

on and particularly off the pitch.

Cork trying to meander his way

through, and it is picked up.

Hart saves, but the parry

brings Burnley a third.

Chris Wood with his

second of the day.

Firmly struck by Gudmundsson,

but this one should be

safely fielded by Hart.

Finally, David Sullivan has been

encouraged to leave his seat.

That's why supporters that feel

this club has been ill served

by the ownership,

but is this really the way

to protest about it?

One man who will not be moved,

Sir Trevor Brooking.

This will deeply sadden him.

The day that began with

West Ham United supporters

paying their tribute

to the great Bobby Moore

ends in disgusting scenes.

Were you shaken

at all by what you saw?

No, because we play

for the supporters and we want

the supporters behind us,

but the players played well today.

Long periods in the game,

we played well,

especially in the first half.

It takes 90 minutes to win a game,

and we didn't do well enough

for a couple of minutes

in the second half, we turned off

and gave ourselves not a good chance

of winning the game.

First half, we were nowhere near

them and they were the better side,

our diligence to do the basic stuff,

kept us more or less in it, a couple

of moments where we were under

pressure and we never really

offered a threat.

Then in the second half,

we changed slightly,

spoke to the players at half-time

and there was a good reaction

and I thought that was

a good performance.

And there we have a pitch invasion,

and you tackled him.

Did you say anything

to him at that stage?

First and foremost,

I'm a human being.

I know I'm out on the pitch,

and we are under obviously cameras

and scrutiny all the time,

but if someone's approaching me,

I'm going to protect

myself, for sure.

And so are a lot of other players.

It is a big surface area

We know a lot of it isn't

aimed at the players,

it is other reasons.

But we have got to be

men enough to be able

I understand Mark Noble's position,

he is Mr West Ham, he doesn't do it

for the fun of it, he cares.

But this isn't right.

This was very aggressive today.

I understand some of the fans'

feelings in general,

they have moved stadium

and they feel they have lost

an identity, and part of that deal

was that we would fight for Europe

and invest and the club have had

of £29 million spend,

and it is not enough,

so they have gone backwards.

But the way to ask

the question is not like that.

An element of the fans,

they are restless,

not happy with the board,

you can see why this is coming

together, it is very toxic.

Today was the worst,

I have been to a few games this

season where it has also happened,

at Brighton, where they got

beaten heavily, there

were fights breaking out.

I do feel for the players,

they are underperforming,

but playing under that

type of pressure, on top

of being in a relegation

battle, it doesn't help.

The one bright note was that some

of the Burnley players moved off

the bench to allow some young

West Ham fans a bit of safety

in the ground, which was a lovely

touch from Burnley

on a very good day for them.

Switch back to the football

for a moment, but in terms

of West Ham, it was a bad day off

the pitch and on it.

I think West Ham were pretty

good in the first half.

Their performance was OK,

but they have got a fundamental

problem, and Arnautovic

is probably their best player,

playing as a striker on his own,

and it is difficult for him.

He needs a partner,

needs people around him,

this was far too far.

He is deep here, and if he is

deep, who is up there?

Who can get behind

the Burnley back four?

There is nobody.

One time in the second half, he gets

away down the right-hand side,

and look at the distances.

50 yards from the man who is going

to end up supporting him.

You need to get up

as a team, individually.

He stays on the ball

and is waiting for his support,

it doesn't come in time

and he gets smothered out.

He is on his own.

Chris Wood coming on changed

the game for Burnley.

Burnley deserve credit.

They do.

He made it two upfront for Burnley.

Talk about a lack of support,

there is proper support

from Ashley Barnes, proper

top drawer finish.

Suddenly they have more bodies

but when you are striking

in the right area,

things fall to you.

I think we played a good game.

For a lot of the match,

we dominated the game.

It is a pity when you create a lot

of chances, you must be

a bit more clinical.

There was a major difference for me

between the two halves,

the second half was the Palace team

I know and love, the first half

wasn't a Palace team that

I would want to know at all.

And I think they did very well

to pull themselves together

in the second half and give that

type of performance.

He must have guessed

Palace came back strongly,

but left themselves too much to do.

It is not a great time

for Chelsea at the moment,

and they came to be organised,

so they sat back and gave Chelsea

an incredible amount of respect.

It is one thing being organised,

and there are two banks of four,

that is how you want to organise

as a 4-4-2.

They had a few in the first half

today, just left open,

and eventually he will hurt you.

Two strikers upfront,

give us a rest, keep a hold

of the ball, sloppy upfront,

the body language is right,

and are two strikers

are very close together,

so the ball gets played in the air.

Sorloth does at least compete,

Benteke doesn't even bother.

They were quite slow on the ball,

Chelsea were brighter than them,

and then they recover

at a decent pace.

They have got enough numbers

in the box to deal with this,

but again, no-one engages or gets

attached to anybody,

they let Chelsea play,

and then the most worrying thing,
