defended well but we were sloppy

I think

they are. Because their own problems

today. They're trying to play

football from the back. It is

well-intentioned and we see lots of

it in the Premier League but when

you do that you can leave yourself

open. This is against Chelsea in

December. The goalkeeper and the

centre backs need to be comfortable.

They are not so you go from a secure

position of a goal kick to losing

the ball. You have to react quickly

to close the gaps and they do not do

that, and Bakayoko scores. West Ham

I have

waited a long time to win a Premier

League game here. A lot of the

things we put in place, we have been

unfortunate not to win before today.

We kept doing the right things, and

today we got our rewards.

I thought

we got into the final third as many

times as they did. Of course, they

were productive with the two

opportunities they had from set

plays. What we have got to do is be

better at both ends.

I thought we

deserved it today from the first

minute. Two goals from set pieces,

which is something we have been do

that over the last couple of years.

We probably have not been so good

lately. We have worked hard on that

thread a week and it has paid off.

There was an allegation, something

said to Bong by Jay Rodriguez. It

has been reported to the referee.

can win you games. They are still

quite high. An important win for

Alan Pardew, to break the dog

psychologically. It was almost going

back to Tony Pulis tactics to date.

You cannot lose your strengths, and

they still have those strengths.

They are trying to play better

football. One victory in nine.

Bottom the table. They will have to

get the details right for the rest

of the season to have a chance.

good move for him. He has got

something, I draw, to be fair, they

were the better side in the first

half, we were better in the second

Remarkable run your having, only

losing one game in 12, delighted?

Very pleased. Especially today, it

was going to be a massive test for

us against Burnley, who have a very

clear and decisive way of playing.

We are playing which asks a lot of

questions, particularly on the back

four and midfielders and with the

injuries we had and having to play

players without a lot of experience

we feared the worst but we braved

the test and came out on the right

side and a massive three points.

Only the top four have done better

than you over the last ten games in

terms of winning points. How have

you managed to turn things around so

significantly?

It is always the

players, all you can do as a manager

is lead a horse to the water. If you

work in the right way and you maybe

preach the right things, if you are

lucky the players will get on board

and they will work very hard to

become a better team.

Palace, looking ahead, do you look

forward or behind you?

We always

look behind us, unfortunately! That

will continue for a time to come. It

is important that we stayed very

modest at the start of the season,

especially after seven games, we

were given no hope of getting out of

relegation. Now we have given

ourselves hope but there is still a

lot of work to do and a lot of games

to play and there will be plenty of

suffering in the last 15 or 20

minutes for every Premier League

match like today.

Interestingly, Bakary Sako is their

top scorer this season. This was the

first time he played 90 minutes but

he made a difference.

He did. The

problem they have had, as much as

they have thrust

needed more movement from the front

band and he gave that. I thought

this was a penalty, at first we

deliberated but when you see it

again, he actually gets contact with

the goal and he wants to get in on

his favourite left foot, back off

and he gets the girl that he

deserves to live. He did really

dangerous, whipping crosses

everywhere. If this went in, it

would have been fantastic. He does

not miss by far when we see this. He

just gets that header all wrong! I

would like to have seen Benteke on

that one. But showing great

strength. Very mobile for Palace

today. He worked his socks off,

great cross. Benteke cannot get on

it. Around the side here. Another

good cross. Maybe Benteke on form,

backing off, he would have attacked

this body gets underneath and he

misses. Earlier for Palace, they

have a front man who can come on to

give them thrust up front.

Burnley

have been very tough to beat this

season, they have the fourth best

defensive record in the top flag.

There was a rare lapse today? There

have been lapses of late,

performance has dropped recently and

able be very disappointed with that

goal today. Boeing Sean Dyche and

healthy defence, Tarkowski gets

involved, that is not the problem,

the ball gets played out wide and

Phil Barnes wants to get outside his

box but he has no help from behind

so he is scared and he backs off. He

does not communicate. Bring him

inside, his right foot, Sakho shuts

out onto his stronger left foot and

he scored a good goal. Very

disappointing for Burnley to concede

like that.

What is your feeling of emotion at

the end of that?

Yes, for us it is

one more match with big emotion in

the final and a disco for us that we

played the second half and did not

really play in the first. We played

the second half with the right

mentality and commitment, together.

We worked for it.

Unhappy about the

equaliser? I never in the Premier

League see this type of mistake

before, for this reason we are

surprised. The level of the referees

are good. But to leave this

injustice is really hard.

There has

been a lot of talk of BAR. Are you

certain that would have ruled that

out?

I think we have to try and

analyse after if it is possible to

help the sport to make better

decisions. Even for the referee. But

how do you use this technology?

When

you are on the losing side they will

feel like it is a loss but when you

take it from yourselves, you are

buzzing. Yes. If the technology

comes and we probably would not get

that, today we got that, like the

draw and we are on the right side.

I'm not sure if the linesman on the

far side could see that. There is

lots of talk about the technology

system and maybe that could support

our case, something we cannot change

right now. We have to be pleased

with the point away from home but

disappointed that we could not take

all three.

We will come to that shortly. It was

a great comeback from Watford

despite the controversy surrounding

the goal. A great comeback that

Graham Taylor been proud of. He

passed away a year ago yesterday. A

nice tribute to him by the Watford

fans today. This was the sort of

game that drives you towards

football cliches, the quintessential

game of two halves.

awareness from Dusan Tadic. He has

great awareness that Ward-Prowse is

with him. In the second half, more

urgency. Janmaat, can I win it by?

Yes. He gets it back and kids a good

shot, Andre Gray. A relatively

simple finish. As Marco Silva said,

the change that can be made by

mentality, more urgency in the game,

that is how Watford played in the

second half.

It got them back in the

game. There was an element of good

fortune. No victory for Southampton

in ten games and no luck either. It

was clearly handball. VAR would have

been perfect for this.

You feel for

the manager. They desperately need a

win and they played well to get a

victory. I cannot understand where

the assistant referee is on the

side. Nothing is blocking him. It is

a blatant handball. VAR would clear

that up in an instant. That is what

we needed four. They have not had a

victory in ten games. It was a good

performance. From a bad decision,

they do not get it.

is it for you in that respect right

now?

We are trying to have some

targets, and hopefully we can do

something before the end.

crucial for you to keep this team in

the Premier League that you have

those players coming in?

It is

important for us. We always need

quality, help. If you have that, you

will have more chances to win these

kind of game.

gone against them. We talked about

VAR in the last game, the handball

goal. This was a handball that stop

the goal.

late. It is not accidental. He moves

his elbow towards the ball. It is

another league but we in January and

he needs to pick up. Alonso is on

don't know. I think you might be

struggling, he was not the only one.

If you look at Chelsea, they did not

get tight midfield and made a very

comfortable for Leicester to come to

Stamford Bridge. All three midfield
