Then later we take a look at the newspaper headlines tomorrow.

:00:00.:00:00.

Hello and welcome to Olympic Sportsday -

:00:00.:00:36.

I'm Reshmin Chowdhury - these are your headlines tonight.

:00:37.:00:39.

Top of the leaderboard with two events to go -

:00:40.:00:43.

Laura Trott has history in her sights in the women's omnium.

:00:44.:00:49.

Nicola Adams is guaranteed at least a bronze, as she began the defence

:00:50.:00:52.

And all in a day's work - Usain Bolt breezes

:00:53.:00:56.

into the semi-finals of the men's 200 metres.

:00:57.:01:00.

Jack Burnell is left fuming at the referees,

:01:01.:01:06.

after finishing third, then fifth and then being disqualified

:01:07.:01:08.

Not the title defence he was hoping for -

:01:09.:01:15.

as Ilya Zakharov of Russia failed to qualify for the men's

:01:16.:01:18.

three metres springboard final after this...

:01:19.:01:24.

Day eleven of the Rio Olympics have already begun, with Great Britain

:01:25.:01:30.

There's already a guaranteed gold in the sailing today,

:01:31.:01:35.

we'll be live at Guarabara Bay shortly.

:01:36.:01:38.

Nicola Adams began the defence of her Boxing crown by getting

:01:39.:01:41.

And there was controversy galore in the boxing and the men's

:01:42.:01:44.

But we start with events in the Velodrome, where the golden

:01:45.:01:50.

couple of British cycling are looking to make history.

:01:51.:01:52.

Laura Trott has her sights on becoming Britain's most decorated

:01:53.:01:55.

female Olympian in the omnium, with a twelve point lead

:01:56.:01:58.

While her fiancee Jason Kenny could go on a par with Britain's

:01:59.:02:02.

most successful male of all time, as he bids to match Sir Chris Hoy's

:02:03.:02:06.

The velodrome has been the home of British gold, four medals have

:02:07.:02:19.

already been won and another three could come tonight. One of those

:02:20.:02:23.

could find its way around the neck of Jason Kelly. The quiet man of

:02:24.:02:27.

British Cycling has five gold medals safely stored away. The Karen offers

:02:28.:02:32.

a chance for six, he sailed into the second tonight but will be there

:02:33.:02:37.

without his team-mate Callum Skinner who finished last in his seat and

:02:38.:02:41.

then despite winning his repechage, found himself relegated for this

:02:42.:02:46.

move on his American rival. His games are over but for Laura Trott

:02:47.:02:50.

her eyes are set on history, victory in the Omnium and she will become

:02:51.:02:54.

the first British woman to have won four gold medals. And it is within

:02:55.:02:59.

reach. In the four events Silva Laura Trott has finished second,

:03:00.:03:04.

first, first and second. It is about as consistent as she could hope for.

:03:05.:03:07.

Second quickest in the Time trial kept her place on top of the

:03:08.:03:11.

leaderboard with the final two events to come this evening. Becky

:03:12.:03:14.

James and Katie Marchand will be hoping to go for gold as well, James

:03:15.:03:18.

had a colourful character from China in her wake of the world champion

:03:19.:03:24.

though was swept aside. Marchand to was in devastating fashion, both

:03:25.:03:28.

winning in straight rides as the UK once again looks forward to another

:03:29.:03:30.

night of success in the velodrome. Sir Chris Hoy made history

:03:31.:03:33.

at the London Olympics with his sixth Olympic gold medal,

:03:34.:03:35.

and he believes Jason Kenny is in great shape to match

:03:36.:03:37.

his impressive haul. Kenny begins the semi-finals

:03:38.:03:40.

of the Keirin later and Hoy revealed He looks relaxed, there is always a

:03:41.:03:55.

relief after the first round. Just one less ride on your legs before

:03:56.:04:00.

the final. He rode very well from the front and I told him to get to

:04:01.:04:04.

the front tonight and stay out of trouble. You tend to get stuck in

:04:05.:04:09.

the pack without the confidence to go from the front and he certainly

:04:10.:04:10.

has the form. In the Finn-class sailing,

:04:11.:04:13.

Britain's Giles Scott has an unassailable lead and is already

:04:14.:04:15.

guaranteed the Gold medal. He is taking to the water ahead

:04:16.:04:17.

of tonight's final, which is due We can cross over to our reporter

:04:18.:04:20.

Shirley Robertson, who is there Great hopes for Giles Scott

:04:21.:04:25.

on another busy day It is a hectic day and Giles Scott

:04:26.:04:41.

has just started. You can see them behind me, and as we say he has

:04:42.:04:48.

already won a gold medal, he was so far ahead in all of the heat is that

:04:49.:04:52.

almost this race is irrelevant. But he will not be thinking that, he

:04:53.:04:57.

will want to win it and it is to be a celebratory lap of honour. And he

:04:58.:05:02.

deserves it, he did not get selected for London and he could well have

:05:03.:05:06.

won a gold medal there. Ben Ainslie won gold. This has been a long time

:05:07.:05:13.

coming. It is going to be quite a race and quite emotional when he

:05:14.:05:17.

finishes and realises that the gold medal is his. It will be quite

:05:18.:05:23.

something else. Lots more going on here, Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark

:05:24.:05:26.

are racing in the double handed. It is their final race before the medal

:05:27.:05:32.

race and they're just getting to the part where they can guarantee

:05:33.:05:36.

themselves a medal. So great hopes there. And also couple of other

:05:37.:05:41.

medal races, the single-handed Nick Thompson and Alison Young for the

:05:42.:05:45.

women and they both came into this event with great hopes but have

:05:46.:05:48.

walked away empty-handed. So disappointment for Team GB there but

:05:49.:05:55.

a lot to celebrate. Good to talk to you.

:05:56.:05:56.

There's been plenty of action in the Olympic Stadium already,

:05:57.:05:59.

mixed results for the Brits, but the star of the track,

:06:00.:06:01.

Usain Bolt, was looking relaxed as ever.

:06:02.:06:03.

Let's go straight to our sports correspondent, Chris McLaughlin

:06:04.:06:05.

who's in the Olympic Park for us now.

:06:06.:06:13.

The British interest in the morning on the track?

:06:14.:06:21.

Absolutely, Liz McColgan, you may remember her, the distance runner

:06:22.:06:29.

who won silver previously, her daughter is through to the 5000

:06:30.:06:36.

metres final full stop not expected, she returned from a broken ankle is

:06:37.:06:41.

just in February. So a great run from her, fifth in her heat. And she

:06:42.:06:48.

is through to the final on Sunday. And also, Charlie Grice is due to

:06:49.:06:53.

the 1500 metres semis. You threw on appeal, it was not looking good for

:06:54.:06:58.

him but he was sitting in tenth place and was clipped and fell and

:06:59.:07:04.

he appealed and now finds himself in the semifinals. Also a good run

:07:05.:07:15.

today from the Scott, Chris O'Hare. They're both through. And Ailish

:07:16.:07:19.

McColgan through to the final of the 5000 metres.

:07:20.:07:23.

Men's 200m heats - mixed results for the British men

:07:24.:07:25.

but the star is looking good.

:07:26.:07:31.

But mixed results for the British? Usain Bolt said he does not like

:07:32.:07:40.

mornings and was glad to get that race out of the way! He jogged his

:07:41.:07:45.

way to qualifying as we expected that he would. Adam Gemili is

:07:46.:07:54.

through as well, second in his heat, 20 .20 for him. Justin Gatlin also

:07:55.:07:57.

through. This was Adam Gemili qualifying. 20.20 as I said. He is

:07:58.:08:08.

in esteemed company in the 200 metres, Justin Gatlin and Usain Bolt

:08:09.:08:12.

also breezing through today. But safely through four Adam Gemili.

:08:13.:08:15.

In the field events - success for Holly Bradshaw and also

:08:16.:08:18.

this morning there have been medals won?

:08:19.:08:24.

That is right, holly Bradshaw in the pole vault, the British

:08:25.:08:38.

record-holder. She had a disappointing 2012 in London. She

:08:39.:08:43.

was six in that event and is determined to make up for four years

:08:44.:08:47.

ago. And she is safely through and a decent chance of a medal for Holly

:08:48.:08:55.

Bradshaw in the pole vault. And already some medals today in the

:08:56.:08:59.

triple jump and discus. The American Christian Taylor, becoming the first

:09:00.:09:06.

American to successfully defend his triple jump crown since 1904. And

:09:07.:09:15.

his compatriot will play also won silver and in the discus, the German

:09:16.:09:22.

Christoph parting, 68.37, enough for a gold medal for him. His brother

:09:23.:09:27.

actually won the gold medal in the event in 2012. But it is Christoph

:09:28.:09:34.

this time winning the bragging rights at this time around.

:09:35.:09:39.

How has the trial of medal events in the morning

:09:40.:09:42.

Well it did not go down well with Usain Bolt, he did not like the

:09:43.:09:57.

mornings! But it seems to be going well, the organisers have admitted

:09:58.:10:01.

there are problems with attendance at some of these venues and problems

:10:02.:10:06.

with attendance at the Olympic Park certainly in the early stages of the

:10:07.:10:11.

tournament. But certainly looks as though attendances have been

:10:12.:10:16.

improving. As you would expect going into the finals and semifinals. But

:10:17.:10:19.

I would think the organisers are probably quite pleased with this

:10:20.:10:23.

trial of having these finals earlier on in the day. Plenty of action

:10:24.:10:30.

coming up later, Tina Ash Smith also involved? Absolutely but first Lord

:10:31.:10:39.

your goals this evening in the 1500 metres, the Scot broke the record of

:10:40.:10:46.

Kelly Holmes last month at the Anniversary Games. She has a very

:10:47.:10:58.

good chance of a medal, Laura your. -- Muir. And also Tina Ash Smith,

:10:59.:11:08.

the 20 old, through to the 200 metres semis tonight. Very tough

:11:09.:11:14.

opposition for her, up against the new 100 metre champion Elaine

:11:15.:11:18.

Thompson. And definition of the Netherlands. It will always be tough

:11:19.:11:32.

for her. -- Diana Schiffer of the Netherlands.

:11:33.:11:34.

Nicola Adams will definitely add at least a bronze medal

:11:35.:11:36.

The 33 year-old made a good start to her Olympic title defence

:11:37.:11:40.

After receiving a bye in the first round, she was up

:11:41.:11:46.

against Ukraine's Tetyana Kob in the quarter-finals.

:11:47.:11:47.

The defending champion looked relaxed throughout and dominated

:11:48.:11:49.

the score cards at the Rio Centro Pavilion.

:11:50.:11:52.

So no surprise the judges went with Adams.

:11:53.:11:54.

She's through to Thursday's semi-finals with a comprehensive

:11:55.:11:57.

decision and caught up with John Inverdale shortly after.

:11:58.:12:07.

You get a feel for the ring and what it is about and it was just nice to

:12:08.:12:15.

get that out of the way. And I have sealed the middle. The one certainty

:12:16.:12:20.

is you get better as the competition goes on. Definitely. I was not at my

:12:21.:12:24.

best there but I'm sure to improve as the days go on. It is now the

:12:25.:12:30.

second Tuesday, you have been here for a long time waiting while

:12:31.:12:35.

everyone else has been performing and winning medals, has that been

:12:36.:12:39.

frustrating? I have been so eager to get in the ring, I have been

:12:40.:12:44.

watching the lads go up boxing and are wanted to just get in the ring

:12:45.:12:49.

myself. It is nice to have the first one out of the way and sealed the

:12:50.:12:53.

middle. I would just like to thank everyone at home for their support.

:12:54.:12:56.

And a surprise defeat for Michael Conlon in his bantam

:12:57.:12:59.

He wasn't happy with the decision - criticising the judges

:13:00.:13:02.

I am unbelievably angry. I came here for an Olympic gold medal and feel I

:13:03.:13:17.

have been cheated of that. I wanted to be a two times Olympic medallist,

:13:18.:13:21.

Olympic champion, and today my dream has been shattered. I would advise

:13:22.:13:29.

anyone not to compete because they probably are one of the most corrupt

:13:30.:13:33.

companies in the world. People know they are corrupt company. The first

:13:34.:13:40.

round, did you get information that you had lost it on the scorecard?

:13:41.:13:45.

I've got information afterwards. In the first round, I was so

:13:46.:13:51.

comfortable, not even out of breath. I thought I had won it easily. I

:13:52.:13:59.

fought him and his own game in the next round and the last round I

:14:00.:14:05.

fought him too. But it is what it is, I have been robbed of my Olympic

:14:06.:14:13.

dream. The amateur International Boxing Association has since denied

:14:14.:14:17.

allegations made by Conlon in that interview.

:14:18.:14:19.

Great Britain's Jack Burnell has also blasted the referees,

:14:20.:14:21.

after being disqualified at the end of the men's open water swimming

:14:22.:14:24.

The 23 year-old was well in the mix for a medal during a frantic finale.

:14:25.:14:29.

He was initially in for a photo finish, after clocking the same time

:14:30.:14:33.

But after much confusion, Burnell was then demoted to fifth,

:14:34.:14:36.

before being disqualified altogether for a second caution

:14:37.:14:39.

Ferry Weertman of Holland finished in an hour 52 minutes and 59.8

:14:40.:14:46.

Speaking to Matthew Pinsent straight after the race,

:14:47.:14:50.

Burnell reacted furiously at the decision.

:14:51.:14:58.

It is supposed to be the grandest stage of all with everything

:14:59.:15:04.

perfect, all this great scenery and stuff. And the one thing that ruins

:15:05.:15:10.

it is referees. 600 and however many boats out there, not needed, and

:15:11.:15:15.

every single person on the boat no idea what they're doing. Giving out

:15:16.:15:20.

yellow cards for absolutely nothing and then disqualifying people about

:15:21.:15:24.

two metres from the end when people are grabbing hold of legs and

:15:25.:15:28.

everything. In the end apparently I was disqualified, about two metres

:15:29.:15:36.

from the finish, the first yellow card I got was coming down the

:15:37.:15:41.

straight back. I was second, behind the guy in front, there was no one

:15:42.:15:45.

either side of me and he pulled out a yellow card. I could not

:15:46.:15:48.

physically have touched anybody either side of me and I get a yellow

:15:49.:15:54.

card. You explain that to me. The yellow card is meant to be for

:15:55.:15:58.

unnecessary contact. There was no one around me. I shook my head at

:15:59.:16:03.

the guy, Mike, what do you want me to do! Is meant to be the pinnacle

:16:04.:16:07.

of our sport and you have referees out there who do not have a clue

:16:08.:16:11.

what they're doing. And you were aware of the second? Not a clue,

:16:12.:16:16.

apparently it was to three metres from the end, we were all coming in

:16:17.:16:21.

in line, all the best guys on the water, you're always going to be

:16:22.:16:25.

close. I felt a hand on the back of my leg which stopped me dead with

:16:26.:16:32.

two metres to go and I took couple more strokes and the guy was still

:16:33.:16:37.

on my foot. Words cannot describe, four years of brutal hard work to

:16:38.:16:40.

get to this and ruined by a couple of judges that just want to pull out

:16:41.:16:42.

a few cards. Britain's Marcus Ellis

:16:43.:16:46.

and Chris Langridge have lost their badminton

:16:47.:16:48.

men's doubles semi-final. They were beaten by the Chinese pair

:16:49.:16:50.

Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan by 2 games Ellis and Langridge play in

:16:51.:16:54.

the bronze medal match on Thursday. Four years ago they were gold

:16:55.:17:01.

medallists, but this time around Great Britain's show jumping team

:17:02.:17:03.

have failed to make the final. They finished 12th

:17:04.:17:07.

overall with 13 faults. John Whitaker struggled,

:17:08.:17:11.

with Ornellaia stuttering Team GB's Ben Maher

:17:34.:17:35.

medal in the 3m synchro with Chris Mears to become Britain's

:17:36.:17:43.

first ever Olympic diving champions. He also arrived in Rio

:17:44.:17:48.

with ambitions of an individual medal but very nearly failed to make

:17:49.:17:51.

:18:42.:19:20.

Paralympic Games are under pressure. It has been a difficult last two

:19:21.:19:25.

weeks since we found out that real had financial issues. We must now

:19:26.:19:31.

try to find additional funding to plug the hole that they have got --

:19:32.:19:41.

Rio. We want to start getting travel grants because some countries may

:19:42.:19:49.

not even be able to afford to get to Rio.. I think the mayor of Rio has

:19:50.:19:57.

given assurances that money will be made available. We met him yesterday

:19:58.:20:04.

and he is a huge advocate of the Paralympic Games and what they can

:20:05.:20:09.

do for his city. He is committed to 150 million in the Brazilian

:20:10.:20:13.

currency. But we cannot access that funding because currently there is

:20:14.:20:17.

an injunction prohibiting any further public funding going into

:20:18.:20:21.

the organising committee unless they make their accounts public. What we

:20:22.:20:25.

have urged the organising committee to do overnight is to make those

:20:26.:20:29.

accounts public so we can start to benefit from that funding. As soon

:20:30.:20:33.

as we get the money we can start to provide travel down -- grants to

:20:34.:20:38.

countries to get to the games. We've heard stories about 50 countries

:20:39.:20:43.

being affected. It could possibly be more? We are trying to limit it at

:20:44.:20:49.

the moment, we have probably ten who are really in jeopardy at the moment

:20:50.:20:53.

and we're working with them to try to make sure the grants get to them.

:20:54.:20:57.

It could be as many as one in three countries not able to get to the

:20:58.:21:00.

games. Those most likely affected will be the smaller nations with 12

:21:01.:21:06.

athletes, Africa, some countries in Asia and some in the Americas. We

:21:07.:21:12.

want all 165 countries to get to the games because that is what the

:21:13.:21:15.

athletes deserve. They had been training for four years for this

:21:16.:21:19.

event and it is only right that to win gold they beat the best

:21:20.:21:22.

Paralympic athletes from around the world. How does this impact on the

:21:23.:21:30.

IPC operation? Massively, we have been planning for this for seven

:21:31.:21:34.

years and effectively we have had to shred those plans and come up with

:21:35.:21:39.

new plans 22 days away from the games. We are having to be flexible,

:21:40.:21:43.

we do not want, one thing we always said is no matter what happens, we

:21:44.:21:49.

want to protect the experience for the athletes but unfortunately no

:21:50.:21:53.

extra funding, we may have to make cuts to the athlete experience. That

:21:54.:21:57.

could be things like reducing the frequency of buses, changing the

:21:58.:22:01.

food available in the athletes village, it is not ideal 22 days

:22:02.:22:04.

away from the Paralympic Games. Away from the Olympics for a moment

:22:05.:22:25.

- the former president of FIFA, Joao Havelange has died

:22:26.:22:28.

at the age of one hundred. The Brazilian led the organisation

:22:29.:22:31.

for almost a quarter of a century and is widely credited

:22:32.:22:34.

with transforming football But Havelange's era at the head

:22:35.:22:35.

of world football's governing body was marred by allegations

:22:36.:22:39.

of corruption in recent years. Our sports reporter

:22:40.:22:41.

David Ornstein has more. When the massively expanded the

:22:42.:22:52.

games giving many more countries the chance to shine on the world stage.

:22:53.:22:57.
