Hello, I'm Olly Foster, these are your Olympic Sportsday | :00:00. | :00:34.
Brothers in arms - the Brownlees are first | :00:35. | :00:37.
It's less a sail and more of a cruise to gold for Mills | :00:38. | :00:48.
and Clark as team GB stay second in the medal table. | :00:49. | :00:51.
Paddling their way onto the podium again - | :00:52. | :00:53.
it's a kayaking silver for Heath and Schofield. | :00:54. | :00:56.
There's a double act in the badminton, Ellis | :00:57. | :00:59.
and Langridge bringing home the first british badminton | :01:00. | :01:01.
Not a single British medal to talk about yesterday, | :01:02. | :01:11.
but that was exactly the same on Day 12 four years ago and sure enough, | :01:12. | :01:15.
on day 13 in Rio, we have had Team GB athletes back on the podium. | :01:16. | :01:20.
The Brownlee brothers took triathlon gold and bronze in London, | :01:21. | :01:22.
No-one could come between them this afternoon as Alastair retained his | :01:23. | :01:25.
Let's cross to Copacabana where the triathletes started | :01:26. | :01:35.
and finished and speak to our correspondent Andy Swiss. | :01:36. | :01:42.
They were simply untouchable. Welcome to cope beach where we have | :01:43. | :01:54.
seen something very special indeed. Not since 1960 have two brothers | :01:55. | :02:00.
taken gold and silver in the same Olympic event. Britain has new | :02:01. | :02:07.
history boys, the Brownlee brothers. As Nic Parry reports. With their | :02:08. | :02:10.
main rival missing through injury, this was going to be a battle | :02:11. | :02:15.
between the Brownlee brothers for gold. Alasdair the reigning champion | :02:16. | :02:19.
and Jonathan the silver medallist from London. Diving into the sea | :02:20. | :02:22.
from the beach presented difficulty with the swell compared to the deal | :02:23. | :02:26.
waters of the Serpentine four years ago. Slovakia's Richard Wagner, they | :02:27. | :02:34.
are training partner, proved to be the strongest swimmer but triathlon | :02:35. | :02:39.
is rarely lost on the first leg. Johnny was six and Alistair ninth. | :02:40. | :02:44.
Once on their bikes, there was no stopping them as they surged to the | :02:45. | :02:50.
front, controlling the leading group of ten triathletes. The hills of | :02:51. | :02:54.
Yorkshire proved the perfect preparation for the hilly leg | :02:55. | :02:58.
through Rio. The only thing to stop them would be bad luck but | :02:59. | :03:00.
fortunately they were not involved in the crash. Compatriot Gordon | :03:01. | :03:07.
Benson was, ending his race. Alistair was second and Jonathan | :03:08. | :03:16.
fourth but they seem much -- they soon went clear. They would get gold | :03:17. | :03:19.
and silver but the question was which would get which? The | :03:20. | :03:24.
opposition behind, it was the conditions presenting the greatest | :03:25. | :03:28.
challenge. It proved too much for Jonathan and Alistair showed no | :03:29. | :03:31.
brotherly love, leaving him behind with four kilometres to run. It | :03:32. | :03:36.
became part of the Olympics 16 years ago and for the first time, the | :03:37. | :03:41.
reigning champion retained his medal. He had more than enough time | :03:42. | :03:45.
to savour it. It was hard. It was a hot day today | :03:46. | :03:51.
so we knew we had to control it. When Alistair pushed I knew if I | :03:52. | :03:56.
went that hard I might risk a medal but to get gold and silver, I'm | :03:57. | :04:01.
incredibly proud. I would like to think I'm a tough Yorkshireman but I | :04:02. | :04:05.
was emotional at the end. Compare the emotions to London? It | :04:06. | :04:09.
is very different. England and there was a lot of expectation and it was | :04:10. | :04:13.
almost given to me before it started. There was a lot of relief | :04:14. | :04:18.
there and I definitely felt that was the main emotion. Today, it has been | :04:19. | :04:27.
a tough few years and just... This year has been so hard. Training has | :04:28. | :04:31.
been so hard and I finished so many sessions trying to keep up with | :04:32. | :04:35.
Jonathan and I've raced three or four times a week, hardly able to | :04:36. | :04:39.
sleep at night because my legs hurt so much, dragging myself out of bed | :04:40. | :04:45.
and doing it all again. Does he always complain? | :04:46. | :04:49.
He does. I love it. I love being absolutely destroyed every night | :04:50. | :04:52.
that it is supposed to be hard, isn't it? Winning stuff? The emotion | :04:53. | :04:57.
this time as I would donate. I have worked so hard for it -- it has | :04:58. | :05:05.
outdone it. I am really, really satisfied. | :05:06. | :05:11.
I think you will happy. -- I think he was happy. | :05:12. | :05:11.
It's pretty rare siblings getting gold and silver at the Olympics, | :05:12. | :05:15.
but you just feel with ther Brownlees that without each | :05:16. | :05:18.
other they probably wouldn't excel as they do. | :05:19. | :05:20.
They've driven each other on to the top of their sport. | :05:21. | :05:25.
That's right, yes. And Alistair seems to have, when it comes to the | :05:26. | :05:35.
main occasion, the extra edge. Is it something psychological or peeking | :05:36. | :05:38.
at the right time? Think back to London 2012 when Alistair won gold | :05:39. | :05:44.
and Jonathan Bronze. Since then, Alistair has had allsorts of injury | :05:45. | :05:49.
problems. Exactly a year ago there was the triathlon test event here | :05:50. | :05:52.
and he finished way down in the field, a shadow of his former self. | :05:53. | :05:56.
It felt like there was no way he would defend his title. Ankle | :05:57. | :06:00.
surgery after that seems to have revived him and he was good coming | :06:01. | :06:05.
into the final. He won the last two big events and he said he thought he | :06:06. | :06:09.
was in the form of his life. In that sense perhaps not a surprise he won | :06:10. | :06:14.
today. Alistair Brownlee does seem to have this lack of peaking at just | :06:15. | :06:19.
the right moment for these finals. Thanks. We will see if you can go on | :06:20. | :06:25.
for another four years. Alistair Brownlee and brother Jonathan taking | :06:26. | :06:29.
gold and silver in the triathlon. What an achievement for Team GB. | :06:30. | :06:30.
Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark should have picked up their gold yesterday | :06:31. | :06:35.
but the medal race for the 470 sailing was postponed. | :06:36. | :06:37.
Much better winds on the bay today though. | :06:38. | :06:40.
The British pair have had a brilliant regatta over the past | :06:41. | :06:43.
week and were so many points ahead of their rivals that they only had | :06:44. | :06:46.
to finish the medal race without getting disqualified | :06:47. | :06:48.
New Zealand pipped them to silver in London but they got their revenge | :06:49. | :06:56.
It is absolutely awesome! We had a massive lead that we still had to | :06:57. | :07:15.
race today and we were still nervous because something could happen | :07:16. | :07:19.
randomly and it wouldn't be ours. We did it. It wasn't a pretty race but | :07:20. | :07:23.
we did it and it's awesome. Two days ago you were nearly there | :07:24. | :07:27.
and reluctant to celebrate until this moment start to share this | :07:28. | :07:31.
together after so long trying, what is it like? | :07:32. | :07:35.
I can't speak. Amazing. We had such an amazing journey. Six years | :07:36. | :07:38.
sailing together and I've loved every second. Saskia Clark is the | :07:39. | :07:44.
best ever. And we are getting the national | :07:45. | :07:46.
anthem! The national anthem! Which is the | :07:47. | :07:47.
best thing ever! I can't wait! Great Britain's first medal | :07:48. | :07:50.
of the day came down on the Lagoa Liam Heath and Jon Schofield came | :07:51. | :07:53.
second in the 200m double kayak. They said they had some unfinished | :07:54. | :07:56.
business after getting a bronze They couldn't catch Spain but just | :07:57. | :07:59.
pipped the Lithuanian pair The races take just | :08:00. | :08:06.
a shade over 30 seconds. About a third of a second | :08:07. | :08:13.
separated the medallists. Heath, who also turned 32 yesterday, | :08:14. | :08:17.
will have to delay any partying he might have planned | :08:18. | :08:20.
because he is due to compete It is so satisfying. This guy is on | :08:21. | :08:40.
fire. He has been killing me in training day in, day out. I didn't | :08:41. | :08:44.
want to let him down because I know he is the best guy out there. To get | :08:45. | :08:48.
that was amazing. I am basically sat in front of the | :08:49. | :08:53.
vote, and he is telling me everything to do. In the drills and | :08:54. | :08:57.
formats. I don't have to think. I just have to go as hard as I can | :08:58. | :09:02.
when the circuit drops. -- when the bucket drops. | :09:03. | :09:04.
So we have had plenty of medals so far today, | :09:05. | :09:07.
let's head to the Olympic Park and speak to our Sports News | :09:08. | :09:10.
We've had the final morning athletics session, | :09:11. | :09:13.
with some relay heats among other things. | :09:14. | :09:14.
Great Britain don't always get the baton | :09:15. | :09:16.
round cleanly, disqualified from their last four global | :09:17. | :09:18.
Lots of bad blood after the last major race butthey scraped through. | :09:19. | :09:27.
Happy to say no disqualification today. Not great in terms of form. | :09:28. | :09:34.
They are through to Saturday's final, just. Fourth in the heat | :09:35. | :09:39.
today. They qualify as the fastest losers. They will be disappointed | :09:40. | :09:45.
with that. Adam Gemili even saying before the games he thought they | :09:46. | :09:48.
were in with a decent chance of a gold. 38.06 today. Not an platform | :09:49. | :09:56.
and suggestions or has not been well in the camp, as you hinted earlier | :09:57. | :10:00.
on. Not so according to Richard Kilty. | :10:01. | :10:05.
I have one thing to say to the guys. We have an amazing squad other. | :10:06. | :10:13.
Danny Talbott, OJ the team is huge and we are not a team any more. We | :10:14. | :10:18.
are a family and we are going to fight like a family in this final. | :10:19. | :10:22.
We know no matter who comes in goes out, you've got to have faith in | :10:23. | :10:26.
them and we are going to deliver our best performers. | :10:27. | :10:30.
We will be back. Let's see if they can get the bat on | :10:31. | :10:33.
around and go faster in the final. Much smoother for the British | :10:34. | :10:37.
women's. It was indeed. Second in the heat | :10:38. | :10:42.
today, looking very good as well. Wesley Henry, donate and Asha | :10:43. | :10:51.
Phillips, second behind the Jamaican this morning. 41.93. They broke the | :10:52. | :10:56.
British record last month as well. Failed to qualify for London. A | :10:57. | :11:00.
massive improvement for them. They are looking pretty good indeed. | :11:01. | :11:03.
These were the reactions or the comments after the race. Came in | :11:04. | :11:12.
today after a hard run last night and we are thankful to Henry for | :11:13. | :11:18.
that and the other girls. We were consistent, running 41 again and we | :11:19. | :11:21.
are happy with that and it will give us the confidence going into the | :11:22. | :11:24.
final. A bit of drama in one of the other | :11:25. | :11:26.
women's sprint heats. Drama in one of the other womens | :11:27. | :11:30.
sprint relay heats with the USA The Olympic champions as well. It | :11:31. | :11:40.
was looking pretty doubtful they would actually progress. They | :11:41. | :11:43.
dropped the bat on. It looks like some sort of bungled handover | :11:44. | :11:51.
involving Allyson Felix. She dropped the bat on but they have since | :11:52. | :11:56.
successfully appealed against their disqualification. She said she was | :11:57. | :12:01.
impeded by a Brazilian runner and the Olympic champions will get a | :12:02. | :12:04.
chance to go in another heat this evening. It looks as though the | :12:05. | :12:08.
Olympic champions will make it through to the final if they do | :12:09. | :12:12.
indeed come through the heat, as they are expected to, later this | :12:13. | :12:13.
they are expected to, later this evening. | :12:14. | :12:15.
Just away from the competition, Chris, we seem to have a daily | :12:16. | :12:18.
incidents of athletes becoming victims of crime in Rio | :12:19. | :12:20.
and an unnamed member of Team GB is the latest. | :12:21. | :12:23.
And the mystery of the American incident deepens. | :12:24. | :12:25.
Did they or didn't they get robbed at gunpoint? | :12:26. | :12:37.
reports about what exactly happened early on Tuesday morning. All Team | :12:38. | :12:45.
GB will say is that one of their athletes was involved in an incident | :12:46. | :12:49.
involving theft alert that individual is safe and well. | :12:50. | :12:53.
Suggestions of being held at gunpoint, suggestions of knives | :12:54. | :13:03.
being involved but none of that difference by Rio 2016, the IOC for | :13:04. | :13:10.
Team GB. All they will see if there was an incident and the individual | :13:11. | :13:13.
involved is safe and well. It is obviously a very dangerous city. And | :13:14. | :13:24.
the American swimmers? What is the latest with that one? Robbed at | :13:25. | :13:29.
gunpoint? Stranger and stranger. Ryan Lochte | :13:30. | :13:35.
and three of his US swimming team makes, reports first of all they | :13:36. | :13:39.
were held at gunpoint in a taxi by criminals posing as police officers. | :13:40. | :13:45.
The local police here in Rio said there was no evidence of a crime and | :13:46. | :13:49.
then they wanted to seize the passports of the athletes. Ryan | :13:50. | :13:53.
Lochte was already back in the US. Two of his team-mates had their | :13:54. | :13:58.
passports seized at the airport. We were told to get off the flight late | :13:59. | :14:03.
last night and helping the police with enquiries. Today police said | :14:04. | :14:08.
they believe the perhaps made it up and there was perhaps an altercation | :14:09. | :14:14.
at a petrol station. A video has emerged on social media supposedly | :14:15. | :14:19.
involving Ryan Lochte and suggestions perhaps there was damage | :14:20. | :14:24.
done to a door at a petrol station. Some kind of altercation. As I said | :14:25. | :14:29.
and you said as well, it gets stranger by the day. Police don't | :14:30. | :14:32.
believe there was any incident at all and Ryan Lochte is back in the | :14:33. | :14:40.
US, the Olympic gold medallist. Thanks for now. Back with Chris a | :14:41. | :14:43.
little bit later in the programme to look ahead to what we should be | :14:44. | :14:44.
staying up for tonight. One other news-line out of Rio, | :14:45. | :14:47.
we've had the first positive drugs test for a medallist at the Games | :14:48. | :14:50.
weightlifter Izzat Artykhov from Kyrgistan has been stripped | :14:51. | :14:52.
of his bronze medal. He tested positive for strychnine. | :14:53. | :14:54.
A stimulant. A very toxic substance in the | :14:55. | :15:13.
amounts. In small amounts it is considered a stimulant. It used to | :15:14. | :15:16.
be the drug of choice for cheating cyclists. Still to come... | :15:17. | :15:21.
More British medals but it hasn't been the best | :15:22. | :15:23.
Liam Phillips was hoping to make it third time lucky at the Games | :15:24. | :15:27.
but he didn't get very far in the BMX compettiton. | :15:28. | :15:43.
Looking to go a lot further in the women's | :15:44. | :15:49.
Guaranteed a medal but is another British athlete defending | :15:50. | :15:52.
That historic gold in London as she became the first women's | :15:53. | :15:59.
She's been up against a familar rival in the flyweight | :16:00. | :16:02.
the Chinese woman that she beat in the London final. | :16:03. | :16:05.
And she beat her again with a unanimous points | :16:06. | :16:08.
decision to reach the gold medal fight on Saturday. | :16:09. | :16:16.
I'm excited. I can't wait. This is what I've been training for for the | :16:17. | :16:21.
last four years. I'm ready to go. You fought somebody | :16:22. | :16:26.
you know very well and you beat in London. How much was that in your | :16:27. | :16:31.
mind today? I wasn't thinking about it too much. Four years is a lots of | :16:32. | :16:36.
time for somebody to change technique and strengths and | :16:37. | :16:38.
weaknesses so I had to take it for what it was and go in their and | :16:39. | :16:41.
stick to the tactics. Hijab was fantastic today. It when | :16:42. | :16:46.
you the fight? I was using the jab, I've got long | :16:47. | :16:51.
arms, and it paid off. It has been confirmed Nicola Adams | :16:52. | :16:56.
is giving to fight the French boxer in Rio. | :16:57. | :16:57.
Staying with the boxing, a handful of judges were stood | :16:58. | :17:01.
down yesterday and won't officiate at these Games again, after some | :17:02. | :17:03.
very controversial marking, especially in the men's heavyweight | :17:04. | :17:05.
final and also the defeat of the Irish World | :17:06. | :17:07.
Josh Buatsi won bronze for Team GB in the light-heavyweight divsision | :17:08. | :17:12.
but says that poor judging hasn't been a major issue. | :17:13. | :17:23.
From my point of view, my fights have been OK. There was just one | :17:24. | :17:30.
last fight I think the referee could have been stricter but again, we all | :17:31. | :17:34.
have different opinions and he has got his opinions on why he allowed | :17:35. | :17:38.
whatever happened happen. If you look at it, there has been about... | :17:39. | :17:44.
If there has been 200 fights and may be too bad decisions, it is a bit | :17:45. | :17:49.
harsh to be so critical and critique those two fights out of 200, it's | :17:50. | :17:54.
not bad. Again, what athlete would want that to happen to them? From | :17:55. | :17:58.
the team's point of view, the judging and refereeing has been | :17:59. | :18:01.
good. What now for you? Go home and | :18:02. | :18:07.
literally switch off on boxing, let my body heal and recover. I haven't | :18:08. | :18:11.
thought about what I'm doing next but the support from everyone has | :18:12. | :18:16.
been brilliant. The lottery, support from athletes like myself, the whole | :18:17. | :18:20.
team and we are all grateful for that because it has enabled us to | :18:21. | :18:24.
travel the world, getting the experience we need to perform at | :18:25. | :18:26.
Great Britain's Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge have won Team | :18:27. | :18:29.
GB's medal number 52 in Rio with a bronze | :18:30. | :18:31.
The world number 22's beat the world number five's China's Bi-ao Chai | :18:32. | :18:35.
and Wei Hong 21-18 in a tight first game. | :18:36. | :18:39.
But their opponents fought back in an even tighter second. | :18:40. | :18:41.
It was neck and neck all the way before the Chinese took it 21-19. | :18:42. | :18:47.
But in the third and final game the Brits were just too good, | :18:48. | :18:50.
building up a big lead and they won the bronze with the first | :18:51. | :18:53.
That's the country's first Olympic badminton medal in 12 years. | :18:54. | :19:06.
got to go back to the mixed doubles in Athens for the last British | :19:07. | :19:14.
triumph in the badminton at an Olympic Games. I can't describe my | :19:15. | :19:19.
feelings. I am completely lost for words. | :19:20. | :19:22.
Give us some words, Chris. It is mental. M... You know, literally I | :19:23. | :19:32.
can't say anything because it is the most incredible feeling. Me and | :19:33. | :19:36.
markers have worked so, so hard and to achieve this is... I literally | :19:37. | :19:41.
can't say anything, Surrey. I am just so, so, so happy. -- sorry. | :19:42. | :19:46.
Let's have a look at how some of the Team GB athletes have | :19:47. | :19:50.
Jade Jones was the youngest British gold medallist four years ago | :19:51. | :19:54.
and she has started her defence in taekwondo's | :19:55. | :19:56.
The 23-year-old from Wales easily beat Morocco's Naima Bakkal | :19:57. | :19:59.
in her first bout - that put her into the quarter-finals | :20:00. | :20:01.
against Belgium's Raheleh Asemani later this evening. | :20:02. | :20:03.
Jones has fought her twice before and won both times. | :20:04. | :20:13.
It was a modest start to the women's Modern Pentathlon for Team GB. | :20:14. | :20:18.
In the first event, the fencing, Kate French won 17 out of her 35 | :20:19. | :20:21.
bouts which puts her in 19th place in the standings. | :20:22. | :20:25.
While Samantha Murray, who won a silver medal last time, | :20:26. | :20:28.
She's currently in 31st place out of 36 competitors with the swimming, | :20:29. | :20:32.
riding, running and shooting still to come. | :20:33. | :20:36.
It's the second round of the women's golf tournament. | :20:37. | :20:38.
Team GB are looking for the double after Justin Rose's success | :20:39. | :20:41.
Charlie Hull is one off the lead on 7 under. | :20:42. | :20:44.
Catriona Matthew the other British golfer in the field | :20:45. | :20:46.
Tonia Couch is through to the final of the 10 metre platform. | :20:47. | :20:55.
She needed to finish in the top 12 in her semi-final and came 10th. | :20:56. | :20:58.
He score was a long way off the medal contenders. | :20:59. | :21:01.
But it was a painful day for Britain's hope in the BMX. | :21:02. | :21:09.
He was involved in a nasty-looking crash early in his quarter-final. | :21:10. | :21:13.
It ended his medal hopes - Phillips was the world | :21:14. | :21:15.
He was able thankfully to walk away afterwards though. | :21:16. | :21:25.
The other British writer, Kyle Evans, also failed to make it | :21:26. | :21:30.
through. -- British rider. Members of Britain's all-conquering | :21:31. | :21:34.
track cycling team touched down at Manchester Airport this afternoon | :21:35. | :21:37.
after topping the cycling They included Jason Kenny, | :21:38. | :21:39.
fresh from equalling Sir Chris Hoy's record of six gold medals | :21:40. | :21:43.
by a British Olympian. Kenny was joined by Joanna Rowell | :21:44. | :21:45.
Shand, Ed Clancy and Steven Burke | :21:46. | :21:48.
on their flight home. Britain won 11 medals | :21:49. | :21:50.
on the track in Rio - Every member of the team won a medal | :21:51. | :21:53.
off one colour or another. Let's just get back | :21:54. | :22:09.
to the Olympic Park and speak So we have the diving | :22:10. | :22:11.
coming up soon Chris, Usain Bolt? | :22:12. | :22:28.
Absolutely. I was going to talk about Eilidh Doyle. The world's top | :22:29. | :22:36.
when Usain Bolt takes to the track and it. This evening for the 200 | :22:37. | :22:40.
metre final. He has already won gold in the 100 metres and has hinted, | :22:41. | :22:47.
the Jamaican, that he may well break the world record this evening. His | :22:48. | :22:53.
own world record of 19.19. All eyes on Usain Bolt this evening and one | :22:54. | :22:59.
to stay up for. Eilidh Doyle is giving in the 400 meter hurdles. She | :23:00. | :23:07.
says she is currently in the form of her life and is as good as anyone in | :23:08. | :23:12.
the field. She has won a couple of diamond league events this year so | :23:13. | :23:18.
watch out for a decent shout, Eilidh Doyle in the early hours of this | :23:19. | :23:26.
morning your time in the 400 meter hurdles. | :23:27. | :23:29.
Looking forward to that. More British chances later. | :23:30. | :23:30.
Let's cross live to the sailing becasue there is an outside chance | :23:31. | :23:34.
Dylan Fletcher and Alan Sign are fourth in the 49er | :23:35. | :23:37.
If they are to get on the podium they have to put four boats between | :23:38. | :23:48.
themsleves and Australia and also finish six ahead of the Germans. | :23:49. | :23:54.
but then... That happened. The capsized and they won't get back | :23:55. | :24:03.
from that so they have lost a medal chance. The medal table is still | :24:04. | :24:07.
looking very, very healthy indeed. Still hanging on to second place | :24:08. | :24:15.
behind the United States. I am sure China are going to make a few gold | :24:16. | :24:19.
medals here and there but Great Britain have 55 medals in all, 21 of | :24:20. | :24:25.
them gold. They have smashed their target for Rio and it is the best | :24:26. | :24:28.
overseas games. That is it from Olympics -- | :24:29. | :24:35.
There'll be more sport here on BBC News throughout the evening | :24:36. | :24:40.
It is looking pretty good in Rio over the next couple of days. Sadly | :24:41. | :24:57.
it is quite the opposite on our shores. It has been lovely for | :24:58. | :25:00.
several days but overnight | :25:01. | :25:01. |
