After two victories in Europe, Edinburgh or home to focus on league

matters. Alan Solomon's men have the best defensive record in April 12

and Junaid Wellcome the Welsh side currently sitting ninth in the

league, coming up live it is Edinburgh against raccoons. A warm

welcome to BT Murrayfield. The campaign has gone off the boil

lately, they did well in Europe at April 12, not so great. Tonight they

need a win against Dragons and alongside me as Andy Nichol. A huge

game tonight but particularly for the home side. Very much so. They

started really well. Not as affected by the World Cup are some of the

other teams in April 12 but they have come back with two good wins in

the last few weeks and that will bring them confidence for the whole

match. Who will be key tonight? There is six months ago no one in

Scotland have heard of John Hardie. It was a controversial selection to

bring him to the World Cup squad but he was a revelation. He was

outstanding. I could make it easy was Scotland boss best player in the

world. It is not a like-for-like replacement but he is a brilliant

signing Fred and Brad on the back line the new wing, you don't know

much about him but Duncan Hobbs was telling me he's adaptable and

flexible. He has moved from right to left on economic play outside centre

and has lots of talent -- and can play outside. These guys might

deliver the tries for studies gored against Munster a couple of weeks

ago and Edinburgh are so strong defensively but have struggled to

score tries so far. Janet is an opportunity. They had to do this

last year, they got their defence sorted out and when they went to the

Champions Cup they were really effective in that way. Now they need

to build on that and develop their game and that has to be an attacking

sense. They have the players, Matt Scott and Christine in the midfield

have that ability. They have held view and Tom Brown and the talent.

They have Phil Burley that is the next stage in Edinburgh's

development. They must get the attacking game going. Lots of

pressure on climb to put on a big performance after not featuring much

in the World Cup? I think he has to relax and play his game. Possibly

trying too hard? There was lots of expectation brim to be starting nine

in the World Cup and it didn't work for him and medium-term Simi Mdaka

ladies trying too hard and at nine he cannot that. You've got to let

the game do it in a relaxed manner. I want him to express himself. This

match live on BBC Two Scotland at Edinburgh against Dragons, enjoy

this in the company of Arab country team, John Beatty and Hugh Dell

Decent performances so far and results but tonight in the Guineas

Pro12, both teams need to get back on track in terms of their

aspirations for a top six place. Dragons in blue, the first to take

the field, two is the one in the league, both against Italian teams.

Number one back in the front row. Jackson failed a fitness test last

week and is back. Jones is a replacement at number ten for Toby.

Keep a night on Ollie Griffiths, one of Wales' best up-and-coming young

players at number seven. -- keep an eye. Captain Reiner Landman, a key

figure in the middle as ever. Edinburgh enjoying the fray in their

customary red and black home stretch. Their only defeat this

season at Murrayfield was against Munster. That game ended in the most

dramatic fashion possible, with the attempted drop goal by Sam

Hidalgo-Clyne, five personnel changes to the Edinburgh starting

line-up tonight, two positional changes as they take the field.

Splendid, if called, bitterly cold evening year at Murrayfield. The

usual front row Fred and brain such good form. Powerful looking black

role -- back row. Greg Thompson moves to full-back with Chris Dean

at the centre. Mike Allen could make his debut after injury from the

bench. The caption is Mike Coleman at number six. Various McClair from

Italy is the referee. 44th match in this competition. The Dragons are in

blue are left, Edinburgh have the ball and will set the game in

motion. Massive match for both teams as Dickie and Andy Nichol mentioned.

Both teams have aspirations to a top six place with a top six place with

an eye to next season but they really have not translated their

European form in really have not translated their

European form in any shape or form, particularly Edinburgh after their

three defeats and they have it from the first engagement. The referee

has declared the advantage is over and the first opportunity for

Edinburgh to use the width of the fantastically appointed Murrayfield

Huge game for both teams? Good action start with Edinburgh into

their attacking shape, came down the left wing and -- left wing and lost

the ball on the turnover. Quite predictable, back attack, hit the

wing and another group of forward to the inner field and they turned it

over. It started with a bad kick-off that was too low and another

turnover. Cracking start to a game, two teams, and the Dragons are not

expecting to put up a fight, but I think they will. Dragons are

notoriously filly paid up members of the awkward squad, ridiculous on

their own patch. The wide expanses of Murrayfield might test their

resolve. Edinburgh, definitely, will be looking to play a more expansive

game if they can stretch the Dragons' defence. Here they come

again. On the left they've already had one of the ball. Tonks goes in.

A bit static. Coming left again, Tonks joins the

line. This time it is to Miss -- Toulis. First touch of the ball for

John Hardie. Out again to Burnley and this time Edinburgh turning back

in words, Welsh foot on the ball. Have some extra men on the outside,

Edinburgh, but don't go that way initially. Years ago this time,

plenty men but a loose pass. Well taken by the skipper. It will hang

onto it. Good skills, I like the way Phil Burley is making an extra

couple. How they are trying to fight for an extra one or two metres every

time they are in contact. Coming left again. This time the rush

offence from the Dragons, trying to go for the maul. It has been called.

It's the ground but the Dragons have it. Good defence for the Dragons

because Edinburgh were firing on all cylinders, Coleman down the right

wing, Burnley doing well, the pass was doing well and Burley got

caught. Because you are the players shouting for a maul. There is

Burley's back. That is turnover. Good defence. Clearly Edinburgh have

an intense tonight. In terms of what we will watch, ball in hand, going

through their rhythm, playing wide, attacking and trying to hit them and

get the ball wide to the wings, the more they keep doing it the more it

the Dragons will maybe start falling off tackles. Edinburgh have been

camped in the Dragons' half for the first four and a half minutes.

Plenty of possession. The Dragons' defence has been fairly solid.

Keep your space. There is the middle. You need to get close, OK?

Make sure you take the space. The usual formalities of trying to

organise the scrum. This Scottish front row did well in the World Cup.

Dealt with most teams pretty effectively. Apologies if you heard

any indiscreet language there. Some untoward vocabulary and the first

penalty ghost Edinburgh -- goes to Edinburgh. These common issue but no

issues underfoot. No, this turf is, as everyone knows, Stanning now.

Keep your eyes on Sean Knight, left the field. He is struggling because

Dickinson has got him. He went to his knees and went down on his

chest, penalty. Pretty much accepted the Edinburgh forward front three

are amongst the best in Europe as a unit if not individually performing

at the highest level. It is the first opportunity to help double

thought wise Matt Scott underneath the ball but he had to get back ten

metres because he knew where it was following and his mistake was if we

see it again Matt Scott did not start running towards his own try

line and it is a penalty. Watch the kick go up. Different piece of play.

It's a funny rule because if the kid goes up and you're underneath the

ball you have to go back. Lazy return. Lack of attention. He has

just cost Edinburgh the best of 20 or 30 metres and a good opportunity

for the Dragons. Here is our man of the moment, Lee Griffiths -- Lee

Griffiths. One to watch, expected to break into the Welsh national setup

that to me on first sight but what do you make of this? The ball goes

wide, a quick tackle. Nice off-load, comes in and goes for the chip. If I

was a neutral comments came off his hands first. I think he knew that

himself was not at his reaction. He fully expected to be pulled up. I'm

keeping an eye on soft hits. You have to hold your horses. That will

be a technical term! We have discussed the top -- besotted

before. If you're against a scrummaging pack and I think Ross

Ford is alleging the Dragons on the last scrum went in gently so if they

are gentle and you put normal weight through it looks like you are

pushing early. Let's watch this. Dickens, he gets his feet up under

his body like a power left. Watch dickens, look at that, left leg

forward. Get us in a very powerful position. Same thing. Second time

you are pushing early. That is exactly the point we were talking

about. They are deemed to be pushing early but you could almost say they

are just leaning and the wells are letting them come on. Watch this. He

can only see Nell, so he is saying Nell is pushing early, look at their

number one. They have a case in point for a soft hit. Watch that

again, their loosehead prop, Stankovich, the All Black, the

Kiwi, against him, Nell was high and did not put much weight through. As

a neutral, I think Ford has a point. First attempt at the post for

the wells. Successful Dorian Jones, three penalties against Ulster in

the last match will stop Jason Tovey is in 80% kicker when he is there.

We will rely heavily on Dorian Jones but they have Jason Tovey on the

bench. 3.8 and the Dragons are back in this game with virtually their

first attempt on the Edinburgh line. They looked sharp. Kicking a lot,

but that is loose and has given Edinburgh the chance. Dupre has chip

-- has dipped the shoulder. Hidalgo-Clyne was left again half a

gap, Hidalgo-Clyne again. Tom Bryan takes its down, Burley takes him on,

passes round the back, Dupre barging his way through again. Early Burling

all the way through. Five metres out, they have a penalty coming.

Hidalgo-Clyne knows that and took the option of the kick to nothing.

Some adventure from Burley and they knew where they were. Just that

fraction defeated them, that last fraction. Good stuff from Edinburgh.

Fantastic by Dupre. He is like some kind of wild rhinoceros because he

has put two players on their backsides just with that lean and

the bank, you almost go down into the player. That little pass around

the back from Burley, watch this. Like the man up. Bash! You cannot

teach that. You can either do it or you cannot. That is sit down and

shut up. Edinburgh have gone to the corner, so now we have a drive was

not the wells have tried to disrupt it but have missed the target. All

the way past. Still, Edinburgh have it with a chance to read attack the

line, they are three metres out. That is Nell's distance. Going

right. Dupre's again. Inches short. Edinburgh still have it and another

penalty coming. They have the advantage. They are almost too

close. This time they are in. That looks good to me. Guess who? Nell. I

say what is clever, they did two hits left as normally teams keep

going and they went, right. Any reason why you cannot award the

tri-? He was low and driving and knows he's caught it. He is walking

back and saying, why are you running the tape? He has the air of a

confident man striding back. And that is why. It is there. We can see

that that is good because there he goes. Down it comes. I have a

decision. You may award the try. Thank you. He is given the try as

good. Nell celebrates. The two South African born players in concept

because I think Dupre is really flying around to night, everything

he has done has been great, useful breaking, early is playing well and

Nell had the power. Give someone the ball and was strong and low enough

underneath the tackle, even if he was hit it kept going. A very good

try. Technique, textbook stuff from Nell, who is specialising in these

distances now. That is the view from the back of

the post. That is Hidalgo-Clyne, steers the ball beautifully, guides

it around to take it to ten points-3 Edinburgh lead with nearly 20

minutes gone in this first half. That was the key moment because the

ball was heading left and they took it out and gave it to the right as

the penalty because there are hands on the ball. Various blue hands,

that is a penalty and one pass out, Nell is low enough, you can see he

is thinking, picks the ball up, plop. Meanwhile, Edinburgh have

retrieved the ball on the restart. This time the Edinburgh defence has

run to quickly forward, but Dorian Jones has come back at them. Gone to

John Purdy who is making his long awaited comeback for the Dragons. --

John pride the. Let's go to the touchline and join Andy Nichol. It's

been a good starter Edinburgh, tidy. He needed the try he just got

from Nell because they had lots of territory and possession and had to

convert it. Now it is important, these next few minutes, because the

Dragons got ones in the 22 and we have three points, you must

consolidate this and gets down the other end of the park and trying to

build the score. Myers the tray I again warning the Edinburgh front

row. -- the referee again warning. Plenty of food for thought already

for the Dragons' management. Head coach, a conundrum or two to deal

with because Edinburgh are varying their play in such a way that you

cannot really combat it all of a sudden. Coming at them at all

angles. That is the signal from Hidalgo-Clyne to Burley. This might

go up in the air. This time the front row comes good and they get

that decision. They have established themselves, this front row, is

arguably one of the best in Europe and stop they are good. Nell has

been the dark horse of Scottish rugby because he was brought across

as a project signing. That was Stankovich. Nell was brought across

as someone who would eventually become eligible for Scotland. Lots

of misgivings about him. He is his own man, he is confident and tight

head props are probably the most important people on the team because

if you can get the scrum on the right-hand side, you can do all of

these attacks to be right. Normally because the scrum is loaded

naturally, look at that, he's been pulled back. Because the scrum is

naturally low on the left with the loosehead writer probably goes

clockwise. If Nell Scott -- stops it he is worth dollars. Page this time,

he has Matt Scott to call on. Again, going right. Flat-footed in the

retrieving of the ball. They have plenty men can exhibition stuff with

the passing as well. Advantage blue. The Dragons are teasing. Look at

that. Welcome to Edinburgh. My name is hardy. Dorian Jones just taking a

fraction too long with that, it goes to Burley, who has tongs inside,

Tonks looking to the right. Trying to tease the Welsh defence to come

forward, that they have kicked that way because Edinburgh are running at

pace. We now have a gap on their left hand side. Nell goes to ground.

Not quite swallowed -- swallow like, but he got it, which is the main

thing. The display coming in. Or bounce.

You can see the frustration, but all sorts of stuff coming through

Edinburgh tonight. Real zip, it is not always the scrum-half picking up

the ball from the back of rocks, twice it was Tom Brown. It is almost

like a kick pass, scrummage will have ascendancy, they are

with real spirit, and they have changed the game. They realised last

year they had become a bit predictable, Edinburgh. Now they are

much more fluid. Looks good. I will tell you one thing, Nel is covering

the ground tonight, he's all over the pitch. The timing of the shelf

communicating fairly clearly to the players. I don't think there is an

issue with that. Trying to get them to speed up the engagement.

REFEREE: Crouch... A massive shove there from Edinburgh. They certainly

had the momentum. Charlie Davies turns left, fancies a dance and off

he goes. He showed in his last game how lethal the country. This time

they have more men on the right-hand side, there is plenty of pace for

Edinburgh. Tom Brown easing away, back they come. Look at these

mobility of the Edinburgh forwards, Dupre 's takes it one-handed. -- Du

Preez. They are stretched, the Dragons here. They are offside too.

Nel again, driving up the middle. They are just about under the post.

Here they come again, this time it is Toolis. Edinburgh cranking it up

now, they always seem to have men over. Huge pass from Burleigh. Scott

this time, almost all the way, five metres out. Here it comes again, the

Dragons are all over the race, they have come past the line but

Edinburgh have turned back into the corner. Held up and driven forward,

only committing three men. Here they come again. That's the power pack.

Nel goes to ground. Hidalgo-Clyne fancies it, he has lost it though,

and they have a penalty. We must be getting close to the point where

Marius Mitrea begins to think about going to the pocket. Yes, two bits

of strength, one from Ross Ford who got hit and stayed on his feet.

Earlier on, Scott who went through two tackles on stayed up. And there

is a warning. That's a fairly direct warning from Marius Mitrea to the

Welsh captain, to Rynard Landman that there have been too many

infringements. Surprised they are taking the points, John? No, keep

taking the point. I tell you what I am surprised about, Edinburgh are

looking really good. Very organised. They are trying to get the ball

wide. It is 15 man rugby though. That's what I mean, they are playing

wing to wing. Scrummage is good, not seen too many line-outs but every

one of the backs is having a crack. Tom Brown, Matt Scott, Will Helu.

The man in the moon and way above us on the east stand side will be

enjoying it if he has any Edinburgh links because it is a glorious

setting here at Murrayfield. The conditions are ideal for both teams

really, there is no excuse. The pitch is firm, overhead and

underfoot. Marius Mitrea penalise link again, penalising the Welsh at

the breakdown. They are really under the cosh. This is brilliant

disruption, just watch Ross Ford. He doesn't give up, he thinks, I will

drive beyond the ball. Just make sure he kicks it, in comes

Dickinson, then Ross Ford goes back in again, but you cannot just flop

on a ball, you have got to stay on your feet. 29 minutes into the game,

we have a change in the Edinburgh team. Greig Tonks has left the

we have a change in the Edinburgh he goes, and the fellow second row

in behind him, he goes, and the fellow second row

takes over it is looking laboured actually.

This time a slack pass. They are all over them like a rational. Try

again. Just not letting the Dragons out in any shape or form this time.

Charlie Davies has no option but to put it up in the air. Here is

Kinghorn. He didn't get away with that. Changed his mind halfway in

the motion. Eventually deemed to have nudged it. He flies this ball

out, I don't think it was meant for him. I think it was meant for

Coman. He is rangy, seems to have most of the bits in the ammunition

box. This is a thigh injury. Perhaps the

pressure the Welsh front row is under, perhaps it is looking to

creak at times. There is a bit of heaving and blowing going on. I

don't know if we can make the picture wider but the amount of

people on sending instructions to people on the team is incredible.

You've got one man injured, and this might even be tactical to get

instructions on, but the whole stack of people with headphones on. Look

at them, seven sets of people, look at them! Look to the left. I think

that injury might be tactical. Let's have a quick word with Andy Nichol

on the touchline to see if he can get behind what's going on here. I

think this is a really important seven minutes for Edinburgh because

they have dominated this game. I think they need one more try and it

will be a very good 34 minutes. Edinburgh are looking further

ahead, haven't managed to get the magical try tally this season. There

is certainly a feeling in some quarters that this might be the

night they could do it. It's by no means a fantastically strong Dragons

side, notoriously difficult to break down. Hardy with a penalty. He made

the tackle. He has got to release the man before he plays the ball. A

frustrating night, a pretty isolated game. Thought he was in with a big

hit, big turnover. Wraps up the player. If that's the penalty, no,

that's not the penalty. The penalty was before that. Well, no surprise

that the Dragons are taking their time. They are trying to run the

clock I suppose, it's as simple as that. They want to get as much time

on the ball as they can, even if that means slowing the game down.

They have a chance here for the posts, which would bring them closer

to Edinburgh. Looks very good, that is a good kick. Andy made a good

point for Edinburgh, for all of their dominance, not having many

points. He goes to ground, has to leave the ball. He is accused of

doing that little bit back. Not the second one. Marginal because he

wasn't really wrapping up the man in the tackle. 13-6 Edinburgh are

leading. Suddenly there are some questions being posed of this

Edinburgh side. Kinghorn, still feeling his way into the team. He

has got bags of potential. Right in the middle of the field this time.

They are not rushing, are they? The return hasn't been spectacular in

terms of points on the board despite Hidalgo-Clyne's kicking efforts to

tally up to the 13 points they have got. It is no means a comfortable

lead. I keep saying, it is the possession that should have led to

more than this. Under enormous pressure, you could see at building.

The referee is going to have a word. Stankovich has been fingered, it is

him getting the finger pointed at him. Quite clearly, he is under the

pressure that has taken the scrum down. He's up against Nel. You

should be parallel to the ground, you just let yourself go at the

waist and down you go. This is a key last few minutes. Here he is up

against Nel. He was just heading down the whole time. There was only

one winner, as soon as Nel had him engaged he had him and he knew it.

So, Edinburgh have three minutes on this first have to try and convert

or extend their lead and convert some of this possession into more

points. The first part of it is not even completed because the throw is

not straight. It reminded me of the last lineout against Australia when

you just had to win the ball! Don't go there! You just had to win the

ball and it drifted away to the right, simple line-out. Let's see if

the Dragons do any better. Running about, pushing and shoving. They

will be quite content to maintain their possession. Two minutes left.

Kinghorn, kind of lost his way there. Didn't really commit

himself. Hidalgo-Clyne to Burleigh, who has looked very sharp. You just

feel that if the game goes on the way it is going that the Dragons'

legs will tire. The extended arm of Nel. Here they come again. Excellent

split run there. Here is Kinghorn, breaks inside. A chance for

Edinburgh. Great tackle. They come again, Kinghorn still there, still

running. Patience is the key at this point. Hidalgo-Clyne goes right. To

Matt Scott, here they go. Beautiful. Out of the back door,

Hidalgo-Clyne, it is Nel! Double moving I suspect is going to be the

issue. You can hardly see, he is ghosting his way to the line! He is

hungry for tries! WP Nel. He is down, up and over. The collective

Edinburgh view is that that is fine. Nothing wrong with this, he's

allowed to do that. He's basically still moving, he didn't stop, did

he? That's fine, you can do that. You can do that. I'm just checking

one more angle to see. The only issue is if he does an extra snake,

if he does an extra snake, there is one or two in here, but he picks it

up. REFEREE: I'm seeing the player propelling himself towards the try

line so that is movement. I would agree, he crawled on his elbow. This

is propulsion. Propulsion with his elbow. Crawled on his elbow. 30

seconds to go. Well, all round there are blank looks trying to work that

one out. Ten seconds, and we will have this line-out completed if

nothing else, and anything could happen. The referee is right of

course because if you are crawling... We were watching the

ball and they are watching the crawling. You can put the ball down

and move, but if you crawl... Your time, Marius, your time. The last

play the Welsh have, if they have any sense I suspect they will hoof

it. It is just delivered off the pitch. Nel is the most disappointed

man I suspect in Murrayfield at the moment because he was caught

crawling on his elbow and that denied Edinburgh a second try they

might have had. With the possession may have had, they should have had

more than the one try they got in the 18th minute. That has taken us

to half-time, and Edinburgh are head, leading by 13 points to the

Dragons' six. And you can be sure we will be

looking at that try that never was by WP Nel. Ahead at half-time, what

do you think about that 40 minutes from Edinburgh, Andy Nichol? It has

been very competent, but if they got that try it would have been a fairer

reflection because they have dominated territory and possession

and they have not been able to find that inspiration to get the second

try which I think they deserved. In many ways that is how they have been

playing a lot of this season, dominating games but not getting

lots of tries. The build-up was really good. If they could just make

that final pass, they could take it to the next level, which is there.

There was a lot of good stuff from Edinburgh in the first half, they

just haven't quite got the killer pass to open up the defence and

score the try. We spoke about John Hardie and how important he would be

for Edinburgh, what do you think of his performance? He does what he

does, which is to be really physical in defence, perpetual motion. He was

brought in four turnovers, I don't think he got one but he has been

very physical. The whole Edinburgh side, the back row, with Du Preez as

well, very physical. The set scrum is really solid and they are

bringing physicality to the game as well. So, only one try for Edinburgh

so far. Let's talk about the first one and the build-up to it. This is

where Edinburgh were really dominating. He goes down the

blindside, good retention. WP Nel is coming in to support it. There is a

penalty advantage already being given, they kept their composure,

then an injection of pace. Look at the body angle of WP Nel. There is

no way anybody is going to stop him from that distance at that height.

Massive power in the legs as well. He has been a revelation. We all

know that his scrummaging has been very good, that's one of the reasons

Edinburgh brought him in, but over the last 12 months we have seen this

loose play. Really bright player, he knew it was the right time and he

injected that pace. The fact that Edinburgh's front Row has become

such a dominant force, it is a great weapon against any team. Yes, but

they have got to use that to develop their game. With Ford, Dickinson and

Nel, they are dominating but they've only scored one try. Let's talk

about the try that wasn't given, and I'm guessing you don't agree with

the referee. No, we will come to the end of it. Look at the off-loading,

Chris Dean gets very close. WP Nel, good decision here, and for me he's

allowed to do that. If that happens to anybody else in the park and you

are tackled and you manipulate your body to bring the ball back to

recycle it, you are allowed to do that. That is a try that I'm

surprised has not been given. Can you understand why there is a

suggestion of double movement? That last angle there is the one that

shows a second movement, but you are allowed to move your body round to

get the ball. If Edinburgh got that, that would have been a fair

reflection on the first 40 minutes. Let's have a look at Phil Burleigh

and the impact he has had on the first half because he does break

things down sometimes, doesn't he? Yes, he controls things well. He

should take that, it is a tough one but he should still take it. He is

breaking up his game. Up to that point he had made some passes, then

it is a nice little dink. Look at him here, it is a great pass to Du

Preez but he gets himself back in the game and offers up some support

and goes and recycles it. That is great play. You are not there in the

pocket controlling things, you are going for a second effort. He has

had a good 40 minutes. Does he not play like a centre playing at ten?

Yes, possibly. Maybe that's why they have not been creating so many

tries. But if he keeps playing like that and the players around him can

respond to it, there's every chance they can get some tries from

somewhere. Frustration from Edinburgh's point of view, but there

was another decision you didn't agree on with the referee over the

knock-on. This is a charge down. That's not a knock-on. If that

happens again at the other end of the park and it goes over the try

line and he dives on the ball, that is a try so I don't see why this has

been seen as a knock-on. That is a charge down so that was a strange

decision. He goes up, his hands are up. It is still a charge down. It

hit his hands and hit his chest, but whatever! Edinburgh ahead at

half-time in this match, but Glasgow are also in action tonight. Quite a

few matches this evening, and look at that. My goodness, Glasgow got

absolutely spanked by Northampton last week, expected tonight to go

back to Scotstoun, a place they barely lose Tom and that is a

surprise. Treviso wouldn't be a really big game for Glasgow, but

after losing last week the way they did, that game tonight at Scotstoun

is massive. To be losing at half time is really disappointing. Look

at what Leicester have done to Treviso in the last few weeks,

Glasgow would be looking at this as a bonus point win so that is very

disappointing. We have often seen Glasgow port in first half

performances and being there or thereabouts, but then they are up

their performance in the second half so maybe there's not too much to

worry about. That's the sign of a champion side, and that's what

Glasgow are, they can soak up the pressure and eventually find a way.

This last 40 minutes over at Scotstoun is really important, they

must win it. They lost a few games with so many players out in the

World Cup, and they really need to get back on course tonight.

Edinburgh in action tonight, ahead at half-time, but this is the next

lot of fixtures for Edinburgh, and we will be live over in Belfast next

week for Ulster against Edinburgh. Then we have Glasgow Warriors as

well, the double-header, then between that we have London Irish

double-header as well, the away leg and the home leg, so five huge

matches coming up basically into the New Year. Yes, proper grown-up

fixtures. I think Edinburgh can look to do

well there. And you've got the 1782 back to back, all the history that

goes with that. Both sides know each other so well. Edinburgh won it last

year. Both sides will be looking forward to those results. And

Edinburgh got to the final of the Challenge Cup last year. So far they

have started very well indeed. They are in pool 5 sitting at the top on

8 points after a very good win against Grenoble and Agen. To win

two games against French opposition is very good. Agen, gren other, you

never know what the French will do in the Challenge Cup, how serious

they take it. But it is looking good. If Edinburgh can go back to

back with London Irish they've almost secured a quarterfinal. They

got so much from last year's trip to the final and they want more of it.

That's why they are really focused on that. It is great to see. And

that double-header on that. It is great to see. And

Irish becomes oh so important, on that. It is great to see. And

in Europe. If you come very difficult to play against, you can

win these close games. That's what they did last year. I just want to

see them develop their game, which I think they can do. They've got no

concern going down London Irish. London Irish have signed well over

the summer, but not really performed so well this year. I think Edinburgh

can really think let's go back to back, challenge ourselves and see if

we can beat them here and go back, challenge ourselves and see if

understand substituted with Kinghorn in full-back.

John Hardie didn't quite time it right, didn't get the angle. Slipped

off the shoulder in the tackle. The Welsh need to make an impact early

on, because they were under the cosh for most of the first half. Rarely

broke through the Edinburgh defence. And out it goes. To the first

throw-in and maybe John can guide us through the issue of standing on the

line. You've got be kidding me. I don't think you can stand on the

line. But back to Andy's point, I think if you are going to be harsh

on Edinburgh their second row and a pair of wings around from being a

very good side. I think the second rows, they can be pretty good,

Toolis but they are missing from big wingers. Well, that was clever...

We'll look at this again if we can. That was grand larceny by the Welsh,

because they've almost butchered it. That was very clever the way they

didn't challenge the line and then ran round the line and nicked it

basically. It simple but devastatingly effective. Over the

top again and that man Burleigh almost playing like an auxiliary

full-back there. Plenty of time. Takes his mark. A very confident

performance from the number 10 this evening.

It followed the line, went over the line and the Welsh have returned it

to play quickly. Again Dorian Jones sets it up. Du Preez is underneath

it. A challenge but it is fine. Hidalgo-Clyne, over the top, well

taken. Dragons to come back. Another flat kick Burleigh takes. He's going

to have another go. It is King King underneath it. Just about got it ing

to have another go. It is King King underneath it. Just about got it --

King he or horn underneath it. A drink Edinburgh need to wake up.

This is a game they should be winning. Nobody from the Blues can

going against them. Nobody commits. You can come right round and commit

and act of theft in a public place. It wasn't even theft. It was so

straightforward. Edinburgh could not have presented to them in a more

simple fashion. That was loose but gathered eventually and taken in by

Ed Jackson. Showing no sign of his fitness test failure last time out.

Steams be mobile enough. Impetus from the Dragons They are looking

better. Looks like a team that might have had a rocket at half-time. Or

they might have put something this their soup. Over it goes again. This

time it is Kinghorn who waits. Calls for the mark. Took a while for the

ref to register that mark. Edinburgh are looking a bit flat compared to

the vibrant first half performance. Alan Soloman sending messages. Some

communication there about something the Welsh are wanting to do which I

didn't quite follow. I think it was our grand larceny theme, if you can

stay with that. He needs to be told that that's going to happen. A good

break by Dorian Jones. He's on his own. Left a bit loose. Almost makes

it. Managed to knock it, an accidental knock-on. Scythed through

the Edinburgh defence. Edinburgh half asleep. That's a knock-on by

Edinburgh looking y. I think so far Dickinson isn't having everything

his own way. I think Nel is dominating Stankovich. But a couple

of tackles. You cannot let a 10 run up the pitch and get in behind him.

If they got the ball away quickly, half the team were offside. Could

have got a penalty. The Dragons are well spread out on the back line.

This is a key scrum. I don't think Edinburgh have been that dominant.

They can't even get themselves lined up!

The referee is extremely patient. He's issued at least one warning to

the Welsh that they need to sharpen up. And that seems to have been

effective. Edinburgh no longer being penalised for the early push. Here

is the secondary. That's better. Much more efficient. This time they

get good reward. They hadn't done that in the first half. First half

was easy-peasy. He is just saying, just you watch yourself. That's a

statement of, hang on, we want to prove ourselves. Well, he was

telling them in the first half and our friend Boris is off. Boris

Stankovich, 10 minutes. He's on his bike. Dragons down to 14 men. A key

point in this game. Still half an hour to go and Stankovich is in the

bin. There he is, number 1, Stankovich collapses. But I think

the pressure is on the far side too. Stankovich, watch his back. He's

doing his best, but Nel is straight and then he folds in. He can't do

anything else, as the other side of the scrum has gone backwards. He

would be scrummaging at fresh air. He isn't happy. Edinburgh got away

with that. Tom Brown has joined the centre of the attack here now. Take

the direct route, the Jonah Lomu line. If we can call it that. Du

Preez's basketball pass to Burleigh. Hidalgo-Clyne, if he can hold on to

it and regroup. Plenty of options now for Edinburgh. McKenzie has had

a quiet match. They are a bit thin on the ground. Burleigh this time.

They have plenty of space... A flat pass is good, says the referee.

Edinburgh being to rock 'n' roll. A dummy pass, through it goes. It is

loose. McKenzie is on it though. McKenzie going to ground. Hardie

taken in by Chris Dean this time. Here's Nel. Nel will be annoyed I

suspect. Wants to get that second try. Been denied by the referee and

the TMO. Another bunch of men on the left-hand side. Can't get it away

though. Strangled by the Welsh defence. They go left, have to go

left. Ross Ford tackled by two blue shirts. They've men over here.

Edinburgh have men over. Seven metres. A loose hand. And the ball

is knocked on. It is very difficult in these situations, always a close

call whether the ball is a knock-on or not. No, he was going for the

tackle. I don't think that was deliberate. Edinburgh are going

through the motions but they can't break them down just yet. But you do

get the feeling if they were to get one more score after this kind of

pressure, I'm not saying the Dragons would buckle but they would find it

difficult to get back in the game? I agree. If they could score against

this lot, I like what they are doing. They are being adventurous.

They go around the corner come into midfield, hit up and they go. Let's

get Andy Nicholls' view. They are showing more composure there. A

number of occasions they had them on the rack and there was space. They

needed the angle and needed to pass, but they are not and iffing. I've

been impressed with Blair Kinghorn, he is cutting good lines but they

are not getting that final pass. They need to show composure. The

Welsh have brought Phil Price on for Nick cross well. Confirmation there

of the change. And still That's the first scrum since

Stankovich. That's the explanation for the change. They need a prop on.

So it is Phil Price's job now to try and get a handle on WP Nel, but

Shaun Knight this time has been penalised. Edinburgh, they sense

they have the upper hand and have a man advantage They could get a

two-man advantage and a penalty try here... I think Andy is right. They

are playing so much rugby so quickly. Just use your tactical

advantage in a place you now have dominance. They brought on the

substitute. You are a man up. Let's drill them in the scrums.

And that's the penalty. If I was a betting man I would take another

scrum, John. What do you think? I think you're odds on. Thank you.

Just leave the money on the table. That's the easiest money, like

taking sweeties off a bairn. Down they go. They are really under the

cosh here, the Dragons. You have to wonder whether Marius Mitrea would

take the ultimate sanction if this goes down. I think if Edinburgh

hooked this, keep it at Du Preez's feet, keep Nel straight on the

right-hand side and get walking forward, they would find it hard to

deny them something. They are being shuffled out. Well, that's the

penalty again. There's the card. Another card. And that's the man who

has just come on. This is going to be uncontested. Can you make a

hooker be a prop? We are heading that way. Let's follow the action.

Yes, he's called the uncontested scrum. Phil Price has gone now.

Here's how it happened. He's just not caught him at all. He's all over

the place. He's loose. He's down. He was so far under Nel that he was no

longer scrummaging. All at sea. They are five metres out. Edinburgh have

gone to the corner this time. A two-man advantage. A line-out drive.

13 men against 15. The first part of it done. In they go. And here they

go. They've been held so far. Trying to drag them to the touchline.

Hidalgo-Clyne has lent his little bit of weight. Here they come again.

They are round the back. All over the place. Burleigh's gone in. Two

metres perhaps, one metre, even less... They have turned it over!

Referee, came right in the side. On the far side as we are watching it,

Edinburgh driving it. Landman, it is uncontested scrum. This is what

happened. Mitrea is calling for anybody on the bench who can place

loose-head for the Dragons. And now you negate all your front row

players. Well, the Ed at the end players are clearly not happy with

that. This is basically saying we only have on the bench a loose-head

or a tighthead. But neither of those problems can play the other side.

He's now asking them to bring a front row player on.

Let's go down to Andy. He will reveal all no doubt. This is a crazy

situation, Dan. They've clearly got the advantage. The referee pinged a

second player for the same offence. All the advantage Edinburgh should

have has been negated by that. This is where the law is an ass. How can

it go to uncontested scrums now? They need to deal with this. He's

running up the tunnel. Somebody else is coming on. Number 16. Rhys

Thomas. You are so dominant that not through injury but through stupidity

two of them are off the pitch. And they've got an injury in the in-goal

area, the Dragons, so Rhys Thomas has come on. They've managed to get

him back on his feet, but one of the Dragons players was being looked at

by the physiotherapist for some medical attention. That's an

uncontested scrum for you. We're back to where we started. It is all

very messy. Edinburgh really have to make the Dragons pay now. A two-man

advantage is bound to be at least a 10-point differential in the game.

If they don't get it, the frustration will pile on Edinburgh.

There's number 16, Rhys Thomas. He's been around the block hasn't he?

Edinburgh now are in this strange position of thinking we can't

dominate scrums, what do we do? So maybe a line-out drive, maybe smash

up the middle and get your shape going. Needs a straight throw. It

was a bit untidy. So another tidy. So another conundrum here for

Edinburgh - what do they do? They are going to try to punch the hole

up the middle, to try to create something where the Dragons are

thinnest at the moment. This time Edinburgh open it up. Kinghorn may

good all the way. He's five metres out. He spilled it and the Dragons

have it. That lack of composure is costing Edinburgh. They are behind

their own line but this time Du Preez will come and take. They have

acres of space here on the left-hand side if they can get the ball out

quickly enough. It's Hardie. Takes position back to front. Look how

thin the Dragons are out there. They've spun what's left of their

team now across the field. They look exceedingly thin. Edinburgh, a slack

pass, kept in play. Du Preez turns it nicely into Helu. Only four

Dragons players out hire and there's the gap. Let's see what they make of

this.ed inside. Needs another man to finish the job. In they come. They

have plenty of players here. It is Nel again. Goes to ground.

The long pass again. Forced to go to ground with it. The Dragons

defending manfully here. Out it goes. Burleigh, and this time it is

Toolis. There's a penalty coming. This time they have it, the extra

men. This time it's Hardie for the line I think. They are going to take

another ot look at this, as there are all sorts of potential issues.

Dickinson I think eventually made it.

I have a four-player incident in the middle of the 22. I think it was 10,

blue. A tip tackle. I want to check that as well. First the

blue. A tip tackle. I want to check the play. Alasdair Dickinson,

blue. A tip tackle. I want to check forward. Dickinson is nowhere near

touch. The flag is not in touch. There's a last minute role that he

makes. My only thought at the time before that was it is a slightly

forward pass, but before that was it is a slightly

somebody down the head, but I don't think that was intentional. It is

all kicking off. Alasdair Dickinson has scored a try for Edinburgh, that

is for sure, to take the score to 18-6. What we also have is a third

yellow card. Dorian Jones, number 10, for the Dragons, has left the

game. We all take a deep breath and start

again. Just to catch up, Hidalgo-Clyne

takes a long, hard look. That's a beautiful kick, a beautiful

conversion from the far touch line. Here are the Dragons, what's left of

them. Here is the tackle. He let go of him, did he drill him into the

ground? I don't know. You've got to bring them down safely. Marginal. It

is almost that Toolis tipped over. If you look at his leg, he

maintains, he's nearly on the ground all the time. Anyway, job done. 20-6

for Edinburgh. Here's the try again. Dickinson cartwheeling over the line

to take the point. Two tries for Edinburgh now. They have a 20 point

to 6 lead. Jason Tovey has come on at number 22. The regular number 10.

Number 1 Boris Stankovich is back on. That's him getting off the

ground there. Stankovich is back on and Tovey has come on, so by my

sound aarithmetic I think we are still two men down for the Dragons.

Certainly looks thin in defence now. They have to keep the ball and try

and retain position, but Edinburgh has turned it. It was towards the

Dragons line, so it was a knock-on. He is telling Mark Scott he ripped

it forward. So this one is now contested, John, but this is, how

the ball, as he put it, was ripped and taken forward. I'm no so sure.

That was ripped at and went backwards. Should have been play on.

We are back to contested scrums. Do you know, if Edinburgh don't score

four tries tonight, they will be annoyed with themselves because they

got it in them. They've dominated the scrums in the second half.

They've got a better chance. The Dragons piling forward now. They

need to get something on the board to salvage this predicament they

have. Edinburgh are trying to keep them off the ground, didn't quite

make it. Again, Edinburgh contest in every ball. They can't really afford

to spin it too much, because basically there is no one mayor.

Edinburgh are tucking themselves to a standstill here. This time

Kinghorn just didn't quite manage to keep his feet in play. Clever play

by Jason Tovey, he dragged his foot the touchline to make sure they got

a line-out. When they went to these uncontested scrums earlier on, I

found it really annoying because they are bringing on props who can

only play on one side of the pitch. Tovey, he's clever. One of the more

experienced players. This is a bit of a rumble now, 21 and 18. That's

number 21 just there, and going off is number three, Shaun Knight. When

Phil Price was sin-binned, Fairbrother couldn't come on

loosehead. Edinburgh have also replaced John

Hardie with Hamish Watson. Hamish Watson with the headband there, at

the back of the scrum. From all action Hardy to the dynamic

figure of Watson. That grinds to a halt, and suddenly the game has

become extremely scrappy. It has become scrappy but it lost momentum

in the middle of it. We had the sin-bins, Edinburgh were

pressurising, didn't score the tries they wanted to score, lost shape a

little bit, they are keeping Nel on because they realise he is

dominating the scrums. Fair play to the Dragons, they have defended

well, a bunch of pretty much unknown players but they are sticking with

it here at Murrayfield. The scrum taken apart a bit in the second half

but their backs have defended well. There is Phil Price coming back on,

so that is one of the sin-binned players coming back on, and it means

Stankovich can go back off again. He has been a bit of a yo-yo this

evening. He is a veteran, and I think Nel just polished his boots a

little bit. Nic Cudd has come on at 20 as well.

That goes down as banter. It's a little more than banter. All good

fun but the serious bit of this is that Edinburgh still haven't managed

to unshackle themselves. Edinburgh have dominated possession without

ever really nailing this team. Unless the legs begin to go in the

last quarter of the game, this time that may be a sign that it's

happening, certainly in the forwards. They have been under so

much pressure. That shows you what Nel can do. All good props can take

the pressure, take the pressure, then ease your way forward, and Nel

was under a bit of pressure to start with and then moved it forward. You

can talk about stand-offs all you like, but these guys are the blokes

that make the team tick. If you go backwards in scrums, you lose the

match normally. So Nel and Dickinson have been key to all that is good

about Edinburgh. Literally worked their weight in gold. How much is

gold per tonne? Because he will be about 110 kilograms. Somebody can

tweet this, how much he is worth in gold. Straying into unchartered

waters in more ways than one there. That is a difficult ball to take,

maybe slightly high. Du Preez having a look at the referee there, I think

he had visions of being called to account for that slightly loose

tackle. Slipped over the shoulders, which is always a difficult thing to

judge. Edinburgh really need to start converting points. I think

Edinburgh look best when they are controlled and they lose -- use

their power. When they go out well, they are flying into rucks, the ball

comes back quickly, they drive their balls. This is a good drive from

Edinburgh, tidy, controlled. The word control is what it is all

about, that patients. Loose, loose, my God, it is all over the place.

He's fed up with taking his cards out. If you are going to do it

anywhere, you should do it in front of the posts. In front of the post

you are committing a cynical foul to stop a drive. -- try. Kinghorn will

get as near to the post as he can. Does anyone know how much 110

kilograms of gold is worth? They are all over the place. They are trying

to wield them -- the maul. This time it is Watson who has got the ball on

the penalty is coming. They are just about there. Du Preez has been

robbed at the last minute, and this time it is another card. It was Nic

Cudd who was the offending player. He can basically just point the card

at any one of them and put them off. REFEREE: Two penalties for side

entries so it is another card. Your discipline must improve. It is

another one. He has been abundantly clear that discipline has just

disintegrated completely. Two of the Dragons come back on meanwhile, one

of them is the number ten. REFEREE: 14, blue. 14 blue is what Marius

Mitrea has called and we are going for another scrum. If there is any

justice, this will be a penalty try. Dorian Jones has come back on,

number ten, for the Welsh. It is anybody's guess, there are so many

coming off. Nail this scrum, keep the ball middle, Locke it over the

tried -- try line. Then get another one and make it a night to remember

because this lot are starting to annoy me, the Dragons. They are

holding them, but here they come this time.

Back it comes. In they go. McKenzie. Over the top again, over the top

they come. It is like they are queueing up, the Edinburgh players

now. Way over on the far side we have got four players screaming for

the ball. It's that man Nel again who goes for the line. This time

they are through. That had to come. It took a while, but it had to come.

Good, straightforward stuff. Just keep knocking on the door,

eventually somebody opens it for you. Nel to the right, and Ben

Brown. It was a good, long pass, Nel takes it. Pick it up, smash-up, keep

going, come from the right, that's a good try. That has to be as near a

bank. Nel is going off. No, it is Dickinson going off. Both. I can see

Dickinson, Ford and Nel. They've replaced the whole front row. You

can give some thought your man of the match selection and I will come

back to you for that shortly. Tom Brown's try has given Edinburgh

three tries, they have seven minutes or thereabouts after kick. Tried to

pull it round, it didn't work, however a comfortable lead now for

Edinburgh. This is how it was finished off. Phil Burleigh is now

leaving the field as well for Edinburgh, so Burleigh has done his

stint. Someone has tweeted me that 110 kilograms in gold is roughly

worth between 1,000,000 and ?2.5 million, depending on the quality of

the gold. We have a debut for Edinburgh with Mike Allen coming on,

in place of Burleigh. It is going to mean some sort of adjustment, and

there's a penalty here for the Dragons, and they take it at pace.

That looked forward to me, but Marius Mitrea, the man who counts.

In they go. The last thing Edinburgh want to do

is concede the score now because they need to get to the other end of

the field and clinch that bonus which has eluded them all season.

Here they go, there is a chance here for Edinburgh. It is Will Helu and

he is bundled into touch. He was the way down the left wing, he should

have kept this ball alive. I think he's taken an injury as well. The

referee is checking if he would have scored a try. He's asking if that

was a knock-on first, I think. When he stalled, he was clearly in touch.

I remember as a young boy Ian McGeechan coaching us, and he said

you never ever dive in touch. Any youngsters watching, get off the

touchline and keep the ball infield, in play. Kennedy is on for Edinburgh

at the back of the scrum. In the final few minutes, some fresh legs.

Edinburgh need their hands on the ball. Here he comes again, this time

it is Brown. A long pass into the middle. A bit of pace suddenly

injected by 22, Mike Allen. Watson fancies a rumble. There is a gap.

That gap opened beautifully for him, and he just felt his way through it.

Here they come. Edinburgh with the ball at this point, it is number 12,

Matt Scott, who completes the deal. Your man of the match, John? Great

try. The man of the match tonight, the try was great, the mascot was

good, there is the man of the match. If he's worth a million in

gold, I'm surprised, but he's a prop who could have scored two tries, he

scored one, but everything that helped Edinburgh in the first half

was with the tight head. That is another couple of points added

there, and the lead extends. That is just gassed. The boy spots the gap,

nicely picked up. I think Matt Scott has played one of his quiet, strong

games tonight. He's not done lots of glory stuff, but strength. Just

finished what was started beautifully. There is the end

result. 32-6. Our million-dollar man has been acclaimed by the crowd as

man of the match, Mr Nel. It has ended up being exactly the kind of

night they want. A bit of a rocky period but enough now to be happy.

Solomons will be happy, no big injuries, the scrum did well, lots

of good stuff. I think, looking at some of the boys who have come on,

if you look at Hamish Watson he has come on, Mike Allen has some gas to

him, and Kennedy made one of the brakes of the night. We haven't seen

Mike Allen really. brakes of the night. We haven't seen

of this little lot. The bonus point to Edinburgh, and they are under

pressure. He was being pulled down. to Edinburgh, and they are under

line, they have rumbled over the line. This will be very interesting,

comparing it to what Nel did. This looked as though he rolled it

forward a bit. Jim Yuille, the TMO, is being asked if they can award try

for this. He is crawling as well but the ball hadn't touched the ground.

I will give him that, that's a good try. You may award the try. REFEREE:

I may award the try, thank you. There we go, that's brought the

house down! It's not exactly greeted with universal acclaim! Fair enough.

They deserved it. Edinburgh didn't defend the maul. You cannot argue

with it. A chance to complete the scoring or

complete the action because after this kick has been completed, we

have game over. For the record, there are two more points to the

Dragons, which takes the final tally in a quite extraordinary match in

some respects but quite satisfying result at the end of the evening for

Glasgow also winning, as we said earlier. And the man of the match

awarded to William Nel by the birthday boy, Beattie. You can tell

by their faces they are not wholly enamoured by what happened, these

Edinburgh players. Good display, scrum dominant in the end, work rate

very good, defence very good. Ultimately had to much possession to

let the Dragons into it but just that last try knocks the sheen off

it because they were motoring, Edinburgh, weren't they? And they

were pretty dominant but ultimately they could have scored five or six.

It is a win. It is a great win but they are proud professionals and

they will know they could have done better. We are almost at the point

where we can join the man of the match, who is having a leisurely

stroll. The million pound man is going to the corner, and here is the

final score as we have it. 32-13. That was a bonus point win but it

was hard work, wasn't it? We worked hard and at the end we had the bonus

point won. You got one, we thought it was two, I guess you did as well.

boys tonight, wasn't it? Yes, they had to dig deep. Ultimately they got

the four tries, so they got the five points. That was the least they

could have got for it tonight. What was it, four yellow cards? At one

point playing against 12 players and they didn't have that composure but

they got there in the end. They have done the job. It wasn't pretty, it

wasn't the most exciting rugby, but they got the five points on offer

and that's what they needed to do. Yes, but there's times it was so

frustrating to watch because there were chances to score the tries and

they just didn't do it. That's probably where Edinburgh are at the

moment. They are not going to set the game alight but they are getting

the job done at the moment. You want to build on this platform. They have

now done that. They have got a scrum here tonight, they dominated, forced

a number of turnovers. There was space eventually that Matt Scott and

Tom Brown were able to exploit so they started from a good platform.

They won the game and did it with great credit and got the five points

offered. Briefly Glasgow managed to get a victory tonight as well. They

won 13-6. They got the victory, clearly they didn't play that well,

it was a bit ugly but they won. Job done again. We will be back
