Edinburgh Rugby v Cardiff Blues Pro12 Rugby

The Scotland - Wales Rugby rivalry is renewed this weekend, a certain

Six Nations match just a couple of miles along the road at Murrayfield

tomorrow and tonight, it is Guinness Pro12 action, Edinburgh against

Cardiff and it is live on the BBC. Hello to you from Myreside, as

Edinburgh look to bounce back from that heavy defeat at Leinster last

Friday night. Let's get the pre-match thoughts of the former

Scotland captain Andy Nicol. Big changes happening for Edinburgh.

Very much so, here we are, the first time the BBC Scotland cameras have

been to Myreside, a huge success so far and Richard Cockerill as head

coach next year. This could be a great appointment, look at his track

record. He was a great player with Leicester primarily, and look at the

coaching career. Three times Premiership champions, twice

runners-up, three times in the semifinals, Heineken Cup finalists

here. He is a proven winner and he could have gone anywhere and to get

in here at Edinburgh is a great appointment. Is his style of rugby

the right fit for Edinburgh or is it about winning rugby matches,

whatever the style? He played with an edge and he coaches with an edge,

I think this is what the Edinburgh side needs. It is a young side

developing nicely and I think they need a hard edge Richard Cockerill

can bring. I think Duncan Hodge and Stevie Scott still in the backroom

staff, it is good developing the young Scottish coaches, but overall,

it is a good team. More from Andy during the half-time interval but we

are getting to the action shortly and in the commentary box, we can

hear from former Scotland centre Alan Tait, who is alongside Hugh

MacLennan. Thank you. Storm Doris has long since gone to be replaced

by a Welsh invasion, which is the capital swathe in red this weekend.

It will be quite a weekend and it is down to Edinburgh to get this

weekend after a good start. Cardiff the visitors, their debut at

Myreside. Bonus point win against Treviso last weekend, eight tries,

eight points off the top six, plenty to play ball for them. Missing a

swathe of internationals. Peikrishvili comes into the front

row. Bennett retained at number seven. Tom James is in, six tries on

the wing. Shingler and Halaholo in the midfield. The skipper, Lloyd

Williams at number nine. Not exactly a familiar gear setup for Cardiff,

playing in the Hoops. They will be from left to right. Just waiting for

Edinburgh to come out, a settled side again from the acting coach

junk on Hajj. Alex Cuthbert, who has rejoined the Cardiff squad from the

Welsh International openside -- acting coach Duncan Hodge. No war

button, he is injured, Jenkins is not here either but still a strong,

strong Cardiff side. -- no Sam Warburton. They face Edinburgh and

after their disappointing defeat against Leinster last weekend, when

they played well in the first half but came up against an adventurous

Irish side in the second half. And acting coach Duncan Hodge has made

some changes as a result of the events in Dublin last week. He has

three changes in personnel. The forwards are retained as a unit,

with a dynamic back three and they will have to be that. Hidalgo-Clyne

starting in at number nine, Jason Tovey in the Duncan Weir. A shift at

fullback. Rory Scholes in as well. The captain is Neil Cochrane, the

hooker. The benches the big talking point, perhaps, Grant Gilchrist

still has no place at Murrayfield but is on the bench for Edinburgh.

Matthew Rees probably the biggest name on a Cardiff bench to come

later on. A key player at number nine will have to dictate the plate

in difficult conditions. The referee tonight is David Wilkinson of the

IRA few, refereeing his 49th match in the competition. -- of the IRFU.

Cardiff will kick off. And the rain has eased off, just looking into the

lights. It has been pretty horrendous for the last hour or so,

all credit to the Myreside ground staff for getting the pitch into

shape after the storms of the last 48 hours or so.

The first attacking option to Cardiff, but Edinburgh... The crowd

still streaming into Myreside, just looking round both ends of the

stadium and across at the stand. Edinburgh trying to gain some

territory. Jason Tovey bulk-macro there was a gap there. Hidalgo-Clyne

will be glad to see the back of the rain, it was driving into... It

would have been driving into his face just an hour ago. Released now,

pink. The call is pink, Alan Tait. Not a familiar set of colours for

Cardiff. No, it isn't. Interesting start, Edinburgh trying to play out

of their own half and I think with conditions as they are, it might be

better putting the pressure back on Cardiff. At the turnover, Nick

Williams, he is a handful and if he gets his hands on the ball, he is

hard to shift. That kind Cardiff back row is a formidable unit, but

if Nick Williams gets football going forward, the Edinburgh has to be up

to it. He will set the example for Cardiff and now we know that the

strategy for Edinburgh, I was expecting him to charge it straight

back but he shifted it onto the fullback Matthew Morgan and said you

can have it, so maybe that is a sign of things to come. And if you look

back at last week, eight tries from the Cardiff side, albeit against

Treviso, Edinburgh with a second-half collapse. On paper, it's

not that much of a contest, with Cardiff still having a lot to play

for. Cardiff have said they want to stay with the top of the table but

if you analyse their stats, these two teams are better with ball in

hand than the defensive efforts than they should be at the top of the

table and that is what they have to sort out tonight, both teams, the

defensive duties. That is a good scrum from Edinburgh. First victory

to Edinburgh and David Wilkinson agrees. This was a decent nudge.

Richard Cockerill will be happy with that, that is certainly what he has

come for. That said peace will get well worked over with Cockrell in

charge. -- set piece. To think a shadow extends over Myreside

tonight? A lot of them will know he is watching, he is a workaholic and

he analyses games Angus Groom is definitely his baby and he will do

wanted to be strong and it is something Edinburgh will work on in

the coming months. You have seen him up close, is that what he's going to

bring? Almost definitely. Set piece, he says himself, his scrum, the

line-out, the maul, that is what the Leicester side was always built on

and he has always preached it and I don't think he will go away from it.

Not so tidy this time, they have to shuffle it back to Hidalgo-Clyne.

Across the field and the back three has fallen back, they are expecting

this to come at them, I think. First aerial shot from Hidalgo-Clyne. That

is well taken, that is a Welsh ball. Edinburgh had to be careful there

not to go over. Lloyd Williams... Slack midfield.

Cardiff getting their hands on the ball for the first time, really, in

open play now. Edinburgh trying to contain them in midfield. Not

exactly over committing their men to the challenge.

It is well taken. Edinburgh, plenty of men waiting here.

Some lazy Welshman hanging around. Loose ball... The referee says that

went backwards and the Welsh have it. Again, Edinburgh losing their

shape, committing men on the far side in front of the stand. Again,

Williams comes away with it. Stretching the Edinburgh defence.

Tovey read that one. And he has given that plenty of leather and he

has made ground to halfway. So both sides, unsurprising, really, just

teasing each other out. Both putting it through their hands, getting into

the game. Turnover ball and the to pass rule by Cardiff, looking for

the edge -- two pass rule. They are feeling each other out in this

middle zone here. Hopefully the game will open up a bit more as we go on.

Macauley Cook just being advised to tidy up the way he is hanging around

the edge of the rucks by referee Wilkinson. Great low tackle by

Cochrane. He has knocked himself out by the looks of it but he put his

body on the line. Cochrane in some distress there, getting up. He

doesn't look exactly with us at the moment. He has lined up on the

defence on the left-hand side but on the far left, Cardiff are punching

holes again. Advantage coming. And they are playing on, they have a

Bregant but the referee David Wilkinson will take them back. Back

to midfield -- may have a brake on. Just looking at Neil Cochrane, still

not quite fit. This is how the penalty game. It is an interesting

one. They are coming from the side a little bit as well, so they are

lucky to get that call and he is going to goal, which is obviously a

sign that they are here for the win. I am surprised that the medical

staff haven't taken a closer look at Neil Cochrane, he has obviously

indicated himself that he feels comfortable but he took a hefty

knock. No surprise that Cardiff would take a pot shot at this, seven

minutes in, it is a pretty straightforward chance.

And plenty of taking power in the Cardiff game between Gareth and scum

and Steve Shingler, both funnily enough running at 76% success rate

-- caravans Anscombe. Schindler with the first shot at the

post. Not so sure he hit that perfectly, but it is first blood to

Cardiff. A good little. Lunch Obviously storm Doris is over -- a

good little launch. Jason Tovey will get us going again

and we have half an eye on the women's Six Nations match,

half-time, the score is Scotland seven, Wales 14. They started just

before us, well into half-time and we will keep you posted. Some of the

other results in the Guinness Pro12 as this game goes forward. Poor

attempt by Du Preez to take that, possibly losing it in the light and

the driving rain now teaming down again. Lloyd Williams $:/STARTFEED

the advantage is over. Again, the Welsh contesting the ball on the

floor quick support, halal goat Clive. Quick step from Chris Dean.

It was Glenn Bryce that took it in. Switches in the Edinburgh backline

from last week to accommodate various other changes. Of those

Jamie Ritchie, fending them off. Hidalgo-Clyne, Tovey changed his

mind. He looks fine now. Good contest again. Kinghorn joins the

line. Slightly higher tackle from George air, -- George Earle,

slipping over the top. A good side to side but somebody needs to

straighten up and get someone going forward, they are going a bit side

to side and it puts the defence on top. It is all very predictable and

easy to read. Edinburgh has spare men here. Hoyland taken down. That

is a pool ball and Cosgrove is lucky to get that. Back in the Edinburgh

side. Looking for space upon the left touchline. Conditions difficult

and becoming more difficult, I would suggest, as the game goes on.

Evidence that the players are beginning to slide.

Cardiff trying to move it from dissent that -- from defence.

Hoyland with that little kick, the advantage is with Edinburgh. Plenty

of air. They have extra men here. I suspect the referee is going to take

them back for the penalty. He is going back to the penalty. Andy

Nicol. This is the first time we have been at Myreside, it is the

third time that Edinburgh have played here. The high tackle here,

you can see it is just around the shoulder, but this is the third time

here, the first two games were against Saracens in the Challenge

Cup and then Munster, it wasn't a great quality of rugby. Great

atmosphere and it is great that Edinburgh have moved to Myreside

that what these to improve is the quality to get the crowd right

behind them. We have seen a couple of moments but they need to cut out

the mistakes. It is very quiet here and they need to give them something

to cheer about. Tovey's kick has put them on the 22, the crowd responding

instantly. I suspect on a night like this, the kick wasn't really on for

the posts, so Edinburgh are perfectly entitled to take the

running option. They have stretched all the players across the field.

Perfect attacking position. The first part is done. Good show from

Cardiff. Hidalgo-Clyne doing some tidying up and getting whacked for

his trouble. Driving through the middle. Cochrane nursing the ball

gently. Welsh bodies all over the place. An advantage coming to

Edinburgh. Kinghorn in midfield is screaming for the ball to be issued.

Slow, though. Edinburgh needed quicker ball and they have a penalty

coming. Second penalty and the referee will have words. I'm going

to check here. Tim? Tim, are you there, please? The referee is going

to take a look at the particular incident. The penalty is given but

he has gone to the T M O. I just saw a swinging arm and I want to check.

It was pretty untidy, but Edinburgh didn't take the right option. There

is a tactic here, it is all over the place but they got two penalties and

they are in greater territory. Absolutely. Young Sam at the back

throwing their big forwards about, which is good to see. Obviously, the

referee has seen something, a bit of handbags, but nothing, really.

Well, it is all a bit untidy. I think the no arm tackling, I have

always been against this, rolling in with your shoulder, Canon bawling at

peoples knees, it is worse than the high tackles. They should be getting

the boys in the bin if they do that. It is a lousy tackle and it is

dangerous. I think you said yourself, there was nothing really

in that and to take this kind of age to decide that, but I think he is

going to have words. Let's listen in. There is a problem with your

team discipline, three offences all in the one phase of play. Number

four clearly pushing a player of the ball, number three is coming in

after the ball and the tackle by the second row. It has to stop now. Just

before we went on air, we saw an incident on the touchline where a

Welsh player bumped into the referee and he gave him one hell of a

lecture. I think it is payback time. It was Tom James, the winger, who

ran into him. He has certainly got one back on them. And he has put

Edinburgh, indirectly, into a fantastic position. I think teams

are looking 90% of the time to score from this position and it is so hard

to stop if you get it right from the start. It is about coming down the

ground and getting set in a good position. Cochrane fires it in.

Again, there are Welsh bodies... Another penalty for Edinburgh.

Advantage to black. Hidalgo-Clyne has a play to nothing. Tovey with a

chip over the top, race for the line and that will be called away. What

is the referee going to do? Here he goes. Yellow card. He did tell them.

It is George Earle. Now, that is a huge call, 15 minutes in. It is hard

enough this game with 15 men, never mind 14 and I think Edinburgh will

probably go to the corner. It is not George Earle. It is Peikrishvili,

the prop. I thought he had brandished the card at George Earle,

but it is the prop who is going. There he is there, quite clear. You

would back Edinburgh to score now, they should take this advantage now

and really punish them. In it comes. D ja vu, here we go again. Cochrane,

D j vu, here we go again. Cochrane, the busiest man on the field so far.

Hidalgo-Clyne looks for Ward. Cochrane's legs pumping. They can't

afford to bring them down, they are heading for the line. And over!

Score, Edinburgh. And the crowd have come to their feet at last. Textbook

stuff, really. It was the thing to do. Five points is five points, as

they say. There have been times when they have done that with a short

routes, it will certainly lift the front guys but it is important now

with the kick off, get back down there and punish this team while

they are down to 14 players. Take as much as you can out of the next ten

minutes. It was a good score, it was convincing, it was tight and it was

direct and it was Neil Cochrane, the skipper, who led from the front.

He's had a torrid ten minutes or so but he's come out on top with a try,

that's a good reward for all the possession they've had. He will be

pleased with that and the chance for Hidalgo-Clyne to add two more. I

reckon he is into the wind. The rain has eased off, just for a fraction.

Hidalgo-Clyne chips it up, long and straight because that is two more

points and Hidalgo-Clyne running back to halfway, Edinburgh lead 7-3

and it's a good score. Definitely, you can see their body positions,

they are all tied, driving their legs at the same time as a unit and

they are unstoppable, really. When you get into that position now,

teams do expect to go away with the five points. And coaches would

expect Edinburgh to now put another score on Cardiff, given the one-man

advantage. We always say this after a score, hopefully they'll get the

exit and put pressure on Cardiff again, play the game in their half.

Hidalgo-Clyne scrag. A successful retake, something of a novelty in

the game these days. It seems to be difficult for teams to manage the

receipt of the ball having scored. But Edinburgh have successfully

negotiated the first part and Hidalgo-Clyne tidies up by swinging

the ball almost over our heads in the Myreside lights. He will not be

happy with that clearance. You want to find distance. But it is a huge

night for somebody like Hidalgo-Clyne, who really has to

dominate the conditions as much as Dominic Cardiff. A year ago, he was

on fire and he was a kid, but now they are looking at him, he has got

to come through and be a leader and I thought he was outstanding, but he

has been knocked down by the late back to Scotland, Ali Price is in

front of him so he has to find form and challenge or that nine jersey.

Advantage four on the side. Cardiff have the penalty, it is all very

untidy. That was Bradbury who has almost been relieved of his duties,

but it is Fraser McKenzie who is penalised. Straightaway, they are

going to the posts again, but again, Alan, it must be infuriating for

coaches, straight after a score, they have conceded a soft penalty. I

said as soon as they scored, the most important part is the next

phase, get back down the field and they have mucked about and given a

penalty away and if he gets the three points, they have wasted five

minutes and they should have been putting pressure on Cardiff. As you

say it is a coach's nightmare, after they have scored points, to give

them away again. Both Shingler and Anscombe can kick the level off the

ball, and on a decent night, this would be an opportunity. Some muck

on the boots. He struck that one better and he has

just turned it in, there was a split-second where it looked as if

it was going to drift beyond the right-hand post. That is a three

points. Exactly and that should be a bit of a lesson to Edinburgh, you

can't afford to give away penalties. He struck that sweetly. You don't

want to give him any more chances like that, so discipline is key for

Edinburgh in their half, don't give them any chances to slot three

points. 20 minutes in. Cardiff looking for some ground

again. Kinghorn waits. Into Tovey. Exposed here, he looked up and there

was just an acre space and he has lost the ball on the and Cardiff

have it. Cuthbert dancing in and out.

Edinburgh defensively at ease. They have a player injured in midfield,

so they are a man down and it is Kinghorn. Good tackle by Jamie

Ritchie. Cardiff go left again, stretching Edinburgh both sides of

the field. They overplayed, Cardiff. They had the chance but they used

Matthew Morgan slipping in, but it wasn't needed. That looked forward

but the referee has given it the OK. Still the Edinburgh player in

midfield is being attended to. So they are still a man down and now

they have the chance to stretch it, Cardiff. Again, good tackling in

midfield. David Wilkinson this time penalises Cardiff for going over the

ball. A poor piece of judgment thereby Cardiff. Meanwhile, Kinghorn

is in midfield. This was a chance, clearly the Cardiff, they just took

the wrong decision. I thought they overplayed it. That was the phase

before. Then the penalty there. I think they are doing a good job.

Nick Williams, one high, one low and they wrapped him up and he wasn't

able to get the ball back and they got a man on the ball quickly. They

are doing a job on Williams, it is a great play for the opposition when

you target their main ball-carrier and put two men on him, it upsets

the rhythm of the Cardiff team. Fraser McKenzie is carrying a very

stiff leg. It doesn't look They have left him on the field.

They are not contesting it. A challenge. Penalised on the second

attempt. Let's rejoin Andy Nicol on the touchline. Edinburgh going for

the corner and the line-out. Cardiff going for the post. He doesn't need

the ball. The Edinburgh forward as to protect it more. He is a great

player on the front foot. The Disney is a better ball and a better

platform. I did say earlier that I thought the range might be defeating

Tovey, but Hidalgo-Clyne honestly fancies his chances. McKenzie looks

to be the one in most difficulty, although I don't think Kinghorn is

100%. Are you surprised he is having a pop from here? It doesn't look to

be too bad. The corner flags on blowing. It is well within his

range. Again, they have played a lot of rugby in this area. The wind

caught it eventually. It caught it at the tail end and drifted it past

the left-hand side. That would not have been far-away, but he certainly

knows he has the range and distance from there. A yellow card has been

completed, so Cardiff is back to full strength with Peikrishvili. He

has the distance, but slightly to the left. Tovey has a look around.

The wind definitely took that one back.

Pink shirts aligned all over the place. Tovey has had to go all the

way back. That is going to run out. I don't think he kept that in. The

line judge has given it as being OK. A poor kick to get it away. The

finish was not what they wanted. A great kick from Morgan. They aren't

back in on 22. The wind has risen again. Cardiff have made a hash of

that. Clearly the wind is against Edinburgh at this stage. It is

having an impact on all be clearing kicks. We can see it on the touch

judge's like. As you can see, it goes limp. I think the hooker-macro

has had a telling off. -- Hawker has had a telling off. If it happens

again, it will be a free kick. Talk to your team.

Edinburgh were on him. They almost got there before the ball. They've

managed to close Williams down, but Cardiff are taking the short route

now. They have stretched both sides. They have attacking options on both

sides. Once again David Wilkinson the referee penalising Cardiff.

Hidalgo-Clyne had half a thought and he sees it again. They have to stay

up and create the area. They have to stay positive and then not. -- clear

the area. That is another warning. If you want to test someone's

patients, this is right out of the textbook on how to do it. Edinburgh

with another injury. Let's see what Andy Nichol makes of it. He has done

them twice in succession for feeling off and that is silly. If you have

done it once, you know the referee is looking and you don't do it

again. Cardiff is being silly. Williams takes it round the side.

Watch the Cardiff players. They go straight over it and seal it off.

That's two penalties back to back. Fraser McKenzie is leaving the

field, just that the top of your screen there. That is a bit of a

blow for Edinburgh. He has played well recently. He has stood up in

defence. They were missing, Edinburgh. The replacement is number

20, Lewis, Michael. He has the yellow helmet. Here he comes, right

on cue. Less than half an hour Fraser McKenzie lasted, but he was

clearly carrying an injury for the last five minutes or so. Maybe an

ankle or an injury to the left leg. He is definitely not scared of the

hard yards. Cardiff stepped them back.

Up like tackling. Again, there is a lazy Welshman and another card. The

second yellow card. This time it is Hoeata. It is the discipline. They

have not read this referee well at all. It is just stupid penalties. To

be fair, Edinburgh is going nowhere, so I don't understand why he is in

aye. -- he is in the. The referee is not happy. He has already threatened

Cardiff with penalising them. Now Edinburgh have it. Neil Cochrane to

hit his man. A fantastic attacking position. McCallum loses the ball.

They have to be careful here. Tidy by Glenn Bryce eventually. The

attacking position has gone. Carmichael has seen a lot of the

ball. He is not shy when it comes to hard work. Out of the touchline.

Down pretty near where Andy Nichol is. They have brought Lewis

Carmichael on instead of Grant Gilchrist. It's not long ago that he

was captain before he picked up an injury. Some interesting decisions

bringing on the youngster instead of Grant Gilchrist. I did say it was

possibly one of the biggest talking points in the Edinburgh setup. In

that corner the wind seems to be a bit more disruptive. I think we will

see from the throw. I will stick with the middle of the front. I know

it is boring, but get the ball and cleared the front. That was the same

as Andy. I looked at the team sheet and I thought that Gill Price was

there. Maybe they are doing like for like. -- Gilchrist. Maybe the

line-out is struggling. Lots of chitchat and grunting before we get

down to business. It is an interesting blindside defence from

Edinburgh. If Williams sees that, he might have a go. He has had a look.

Cardiff have it. Edinburgh doing their best to wrap

them up. That is going through and again

another injury on the tackle. I think it is Tovey again. Morrie

McCallum has gone down. A stiff tackle in the middle there. --

Morrie McCallum. A loose ball from Cardiff. The ball

has been given to Edinburgh, but they will have to stop the play. It

looked like two missed tackles. Tovey is the one lying nearest to

the 22 and McCallum is deeper into the 22. Some concern here for both

players. Tovey went down and then he got back in the line. It did not

look too pretty. That was a big statement from Edinburgh. Both teams

are poor in defence on the statistics. Edinburgh just had to

hold out. With two men down, they forced a mistake. If you can stop

Cardiff from scoring tries, you are in with a chance. What do you make

of that, Andy? He missed the tackle and it was a real stinker. I was

watching closely. The last thing you want when you have a sting like that

is someone owls running at you. It seems like a head knock. -- someone

else running at you. Cardiff actually had a one-man advantage

because Edinburgh were two men down. Number 22 is coming on. He is that

the right of centre of the screen. McCullum is on his feet. So it looks

as if Scholes has gone to fall back. It is a big game for Blair. He is

thrown in on a big night where the pack will probably have a say in how

things go. It is all very untidy. Kevin Bryce has come on in place of

McCullum. McCullum and Tovey could well be back though. All this

destruction is helping nobody. It is just not enabling Edinburgh to get

any sense of rhythm and Cardiff again are down a man with five

minutes to go. They have had to reshuffle

everything to get the position is right. They have a free quick now as

well. The score is 12-14 to Wales in the women's game. Edinburgh will

have that as an advantage in the second half. Don't know whether or

not they will use it, but at the moment it is problematic. On the far

side we can see the touch judge's flag. Let's see what kind of job

Cardiff make of the throw. They have got some momentum now. Williams

waits. More possession for Cardiff. A couple of dummies there on being

tackle. Ritchie has taken a knock-on the far side. -- knock-on the far

side. The crowd appeal very quickly and Wilkinson was on it.

I think Anscombe plays that way. He plays very flat. You could cross

that is unlucky, maybe a timing issue. He does take the ball flat

and he is a threat himself. Edinburgh will have to be on the

ball, especially in the second half when he is against the wind because

he will take them on. They will have to watch him in the second half.

Three minutes to go in the first half. You would think that Edinburgh

would adopt a cautious approach with the advantage they have going into

the interval. Maybe this is not the place to be attacking from. They do

have a one-man advantage. Mohamed Bouhlel Blair has a massive boot on

him. -- Blair has a massive boot on him. The score does not reflect the

amount of possession they have had. Let us see what the boot makes of

it. He has given it an almighty thump. Not bad, considering the

conditions. He has got a big boot on him. The Edinburgh crowd would like

something else to warm them up before half-time. Cochrane to

deliver. Not so sure that was slid straight. Hidalgo-Clyne is giving it

some air. It has bounced up and Kinghorn has it. Through two Allen.

He overran it and Kinghorn comes in. -- through to Allen. It was a great

kick. Shoved it through with his boot. It went horribly wrong for

Cardiff, but he was on it. It was just the bounce of the ball and

Allen could not collect it. Another good attacking position for

Edinburgh as the clock runs. It will go to read I suspect. -- red. David

Wilkinson has brought the proceedings to a close. Edinburgh

will be happy they have taken the lead. It has been short and sharp.

And one score in the last 40 minutes. Cochrane delivered the

throw in the first place. Edinburgh put them under the cosh and it was

Cochrane who emerged with the ball, having taken the first goal. The

only score of the first half. Edinburgh lead 7-6.

That was an exciting moment, but they haven't been to many of them. A

horrible night and it has been a pretty game. It has not been

inspiring. There has been a lot of effort, but they have been a lot of

mistakes. Edinburgh will be disappointed. They are 7-6 up. They

will be pleased they are leading, but they probably think they should

be a bit more in France. They haven't really cashed in at all.

They looked as if they would when they scored the first try. It came

on the back of the yellow card. Yes, the forwards did well. I thought

that was a team penalty, if you like, but it looks as if

Peikrishvili was right in it. They have got the shape there, just

waiting for it to move forward. They do get momentum and take it forward.

There was nothing to stop them. They showed a bit of patience and

composure and got crossed the line. Back that the time would be a good

platform for Edinburgh to take a good stranglehold on the game.

Unfortunately they gave away a penalty and that allowed Cardiff to

come back in it. They didn't really rammed the advantage home and that

happened late in the half as well. The dump its well, but they have an

pushy advantage home. Cardiff will be disappointed with the lack of

discipline. This is the sealing off, a technical term, if you like.

Wilkinson has spoken in the scrum-half. This is Hoeata. He was

caught on the wrong side. Clearly the referee lost patience with them.

You cannot afford to get on the wrong side of the referee. This is

where I think they have not been disciplined enough. They have not

listened or see the signs that the referee is strict. We spoke

pre-match about Richard Cochrane. What will he be thinking? He will

probably be salivating. Alan Tate said in commentary that he lost a

set piece. He really drilled Leicester well in that regard. That

will be something that he will do here at Edinburgh. Half-time here at

Murray side. Edinburgh with a slight advantage. We look back at a classic

match. The All Blacks were on tour. It was a special match.

The first ever match between Edinburgh and the All Blacks. Right

away a kick to the narrow side by Euan Kennedy. A good strike by

Munro. Watson is going to take it away, but it went to Eddie Dunham.

An easy try. Wilson and for the left-hand post, but the wind didn't

move it much at all. Getting down very low. Alan Lawson breaks away.

On the right foot he sliced that one. Richard Wilson court thereby

called -- Richard Wilson has been caught. It went forward. Donaldson.

A lovely switch there. Well tackled by the opposite number. Another

great tackle. The referee's whistle goes at the end of the first half

and who would believe that Edinburgh would have helped the All Blacks to

4-0 with a second -- with an interesting second half in prospect?

Looking for support from Brewster. He drives on. Lawson once more. It

is going to be a try-macro. -- it is going to be a try.

This is the fullback. There is real danger here. That is a lovely try by

New Zealand. That really was a beauty. A good kick. In comes Bruce

Hay. Kennedy switches inside. Evan gets forward. Support from

Armstrong. Irving trying to find Bruce Hay. That just went to ground

from Johnson. Another lovely Edinburgh move as they put the

pressure on towards the end here. Richard Wilson gave it a good hefty

thump. That is another one. The New Zealand league is stretched 15-4.

That was a classic game, here at Myreside. Thanks to Will McLaren for

that. Will we get a sulking game going? -- zonking. Stuart Hawke has

brought the Six Nations to life. This was the first try. The ball

seems to just be attracted to him in the first couple of games. That was

easy. I think he has been on fire. A great pass from Hugh Jones. The

backline is exciting. Scotland know how to score tries. It's not just

back play. There is some innovative thinking. They came right back in.

What was great for me was they took the onslaught that islands came back

with, but they came back with a very well thought out try. Brilliant to

see. They got well up in that first half. The thing that made this such

a good victory is that Ireland really came back at Scotland in the

second half. They had to show a lot of guts and character to withstand

it. Ireland are a great side. They beat the All Blacks in the autumn.

They really have to dig deep at this point. Greg Laidlaw did a great bit

of captaincy. Paddy Jackson gets the strike. This took them into the

lead. You just thought, that is it. People bought the last ten minutes

when Ireland took the lead, there was so much momentum. It's very hard

to stop the momentum, but they did with an earlier penalty and the

captain just knelt that final penalty. What a great site to see.

-- just nailed that final penalty. It was a brutal game. It was so

physical. They are so big. They showed courage and character.

There were so much pressure that France had for pretty much the whole

80 minutes. They only conceded one drive. This is many phases, that was

the only try that Scotland conceded in that whole game, when they were

under the cosh, under so much pressure. They got a second try

here, off the bench, making huge territory to get that try. They lost

by six points and all the players were disappointed. The coaching

staff were disappointed and so they know they didn't play that well and

that is what I think will see in this performance tomorrow, the first

up against Ireland was excellent but they haven't replied that together

against France, so I expect Scotland to play better tomorrow. We saw that

big smile on Greg Laidlaw's face against Ireland, it was different

against France and he is out for the rest of the campaign. How much will

that affect them? It is not just losing the scrum-half, it is the

kicker, the captain. This is a lot of British Lions matchups here.

Moriarty was outstanding against England two weeks ago, Hardy has

come in. Watson himself was outstanding. And I like Finn Russell

and Dan Biggar, the centres. Stuart Hogg, Leigh Halfpenny, those are the

two Lions falls back is -- full-backs. Halfpenny is the

goalkicker, a couple of great matchups and I think it will be a

cracker. Scotland and Wales at Murrayfield tomorrow afternoon, but

the main event at the moment is the Pro12 here at Myreside between

Edinburgh and Cardiff. 7- sex for Edinburgh halfway through as we

rejoined Alan Tait and Hugh Dan MacLennan.

Thank you. Edinburgh, one point to the good. Two yellow cards Mercado,

they can't repeat that. A stiff, stiff breeze in Edinburgh's favour,

you would expect them to take advantage. -- for Cardiff. They have

an advantage there and that is what I said about Blair Kinghorn stepping

up in the Number Ten jersey, he has got to steer this ship around with

Sam as well and hopefully Edinburgh can keep the pressure on, force

mistakes out of Cardiff in their half and capitalise, hopefully.

Jason Tovey is restored to the Edinburgh line-up, he has the ball.

Playing in their customary black and red, from left to right. Cardiff in

pink, the official designation of their hooped shirts. I didn't see

him come back on. He has made a recovery. As I said before, I think

it was a missed tackle injury more than anything else. So there were

three substitutions used by Edinburgh in the first 40 minutes.

And they have gone back to a more regular line up. Tovey back in the

action straightaway. And this stiff breeze, you can see a huge Edinburgh

flag below me blasting in the wind and you would expect Edinburgh to

make full use of the conditions now. Slightly quicker ball, which is

better. Along the ground and down. Just a little bit of variety in the

Edinburgh tactics now. Kevin Bryce is on, number 18. Glenn Bryce is in

midfield and one of the changes was to move Bryce from fullback to

accommodate Blair Kinghorn, who had a nifty little spell at Number Ten

just before half-time, a cameo appearance, looked to be enjoying

himself. That is over the top, it is high again and there is an advantage

already. For half of the first half, Cardiff playing a man down,

basically. Edinburgh with a win against them may be negated the

advantage. Bringing it back to the line-out. The line-outs are going to

be difficult because of conditions. I think the coaches have spotted

that, they have seen the wind is getting up and that corner,

Edinburgh struggled out of it so they have said to Cardiff, we will

see if you can get out of it as well. It is going to be difficult. I

think most of the game will be played in this heart. Allen, he is

somebody you might recognise. Steadman, my old hooker. He is still

enjoying life, he enjoys it at Cardiff. I am pretty sure he is not

too happy with that defensive record this season, but he is a good laugh.

I don't think he is enjoying it too much tonight. He coached Scotland

after I left him, he knows what the Scotland boys are all about. Good

attacking position for Edinburgh. They have Hoyland ready. Just to

Hidalgo-Clyne's right, but he is going to go left, high above his

head. And just the second movement, David Wilkinson seeing that the

tackle was completed, he had to release the ball. This will be

interesting, because it is a long way to the touchline to kick it from

there, so he may have to tap this. Let's have a close look at the

tackle, the referee seeing that is completed and he wasn't entitled.

Just a split second. I'm not too sure he was held. They have made 15

metres out of that kick, from the middle of the field, it is the worst

possible place. It is a long kick from here so field position for

Edinburgh, this is where they want to be. The ball has gone to Cardiff.

Kristian Dacey has it. He went very high, despite the wind.

Still Edinburgh keeping them down where they want them. It dropped a

couple of players back to prevent the aerial. Let's see how it hangs

in the air. Munster are beating Scarlet Sportscene- six. -- Scarlets

14-6. And Leinster are leading 14-3. Tovey seems to have regained his

composure. He has made a good recovery, from the way he went off.

Stabbing it through with a left footer there, just pushing them

back, forcing Cardiff into the line-out and seeing if they can win

it cleanly. Magnus Bradbury is the latest cut down on one knee. Hasn't

exactly imposed himself on the game tonight. In the last five minutes, I

thought he had tried to get into the game, probably told at half-time to

up his workrate and put in the hard yards and it is pretty tough in

there and the young lad looks to have taken a dead leg or something,

the usual injury when you are taken in those areas. He takes the full

collision there. Bone shuddering tackle.

Just easing himself back in, but I think he is going off temporarily,

we would imagine. Possibly a dead leg, it just seems to be. It is one

of those injuries you get a lot of when you carry it in those areas.

And here is the man we have been talking about. Grant Gilchrist is

the replacement. Gilchrist at 19 is on, with the red

skullcap. A good night to make an impression, I would suggest. Lloyd

Williams, extra mental Cardiff here on the left. Hoyland goes to ground,

just about missed that tackle. Williams again. Nick Williams. Kept

in close check by Edinburgh tonight. Drew Brees rips the ball away. That

is good pressure from Edinburgh -- Anton Du Preez.

And let's hear it for the women, the Scottish Six Nations within's team

has won their first match in seven years, they have defeated Wales

15-14. Could that be an omen for the rest of the weekend. -- the rest of

the weekend? Congratulations on their victory, hard, hard yards, I'm

sure. Great news, I coached some of the girls when I was in the academy

system and Shane, their coach, will be over the Moon. He is a great guy

and I am sure he has been waiting for that resolve and well done to

the girls. Let's hope they get through all the roundabouts at

Cumbernauld and get to Murrayfield tomorrow, I'm sure they will be

warmly, warmly received. The referee wants quicker action. Don't we all?

It is all just a bit fragmented and broken no pattern to the second

half. The Edinburgh backs are really deep. They are obviously going to

pick a side to attack but by the time they get the ball back to them,

the Cardiff defence will be well over the gain line, so they have to

watch, being as deep as they are. They have Tovey and they have

Kinghorn and they have a line of three directly behind the scrum.

Damien Hoyland them below us, Chris Dean, very thin on the left-hand

side, which suggests they are coming this way. Which means they will go

the other way, probably. Hidalgo-Clyne... Takes a look to the

left. He is tempted the Cardiff defence to go the other way. They

come right. Tovey on the pasta Kinghorn. And it is a great break

for Edinburgh. Forced into touch but he is over! Rory Scholes has sliced

Cardiff on this touchline and that all came from the deliberate tactic

of tempting Cardiff to go to the far side and then turning them,

switching them quickly and there was sheer blistering pace that took

Scholes to the line. What do I know about backplate? I think Tovey took

the try -- made the dry, took it with flat hands. Matthew Morgan

won't be happy with that. It is a fullback's tackle, one-on-one. It

was pretty straight, head on, he should have taken him. That is pool.

-- Paul. He is an exciting kid with ball in hand but if you don't get

your defensive duties right, he won't go to the highest level. A

basic error but all credit to Scholes for putting the afterburners

on, seeing the opportunity. One-on-one, he backed himself and

Edinburgh have capitalised with their second try of the evening and

a chance here for Hidalgo-Clyne, off his left boot, so he could use the

wind in theory. You could see he was trying to. Difficult wind in the

conditions. -- difficult kick. So Edinburgh have extended their lead,

49 minutes end, 12-6 and this is how they did it. Scholes all on his own.

Just had enough gas, but as Alan Tait said, a poor tackle. And the

substitution he the Cardiff. -- here for Cardiff. Cardiff making an

instant change. The ball hanging, dropping in front of the Edinburgh

defence. Kristian Dacey, Matthew Rees has come on as hooker in his

place. The old hands to steady the ship. There is only one way to town.

Three-man cackle. Penalty. You have to say Edinburgh's work on the

ground has been good tonight. That is perfect, as we have said, pick

out the talisman and chop him down and make it as difficult as

possible. They have targeted Williams and as I said from the

start of the game, when he passed to the fullback, is he up for it

tonight? Tovey has sent them to the corner, so Blair Kinghorn ambled

over there. I think he fancied a part but this is not the time to be

taking kicks, they want to put Cardiff to the sword. It could be a

very, very long night for Cardiff now, with the wind in their faces.

Edinburgh, two tries to the good. They are lucky again. Chris Dean has

been positive in midfield all the time. He has price on his shoulder.

Hidalgo-Clyne had a look but again, a dropped pass. Do you think the

wind might have taken away from -- it a wave from him? It was messy

from the start, they dropped at the line-out and continue to shovel the

ball. They should have tied it that up from the start. -- tidied that

up. Sam was talking about getting that quick ball and a year ago, I

think he would have been through that gap and under the posts, that

is the form he has got to find again, keep working hard and

hopefully get back there. Shuffling continues, Gilchrist didn't get

long, because Magnus Bradbury has come back on. The concrete dust has

arrived. The wind has arrived as well. It is Howlin. Maybe you will

pick up the window the microphones speech side. -- pitch side.

Cardiff thought they had enough and so, they will try again. They will

have to watch Anscombe, he will take it flat. Edinburgh think they have

it, but they don't. Here it comes. We chip over the top, the winged

hangs it again. Did well to get that. -- the wind hangs it again.

That is an interesting ploy, didn't see that coming at all. Not in this

wind. There is the evidence, that was at one point coming towards us.

Captain but there was a foot in touch, that was absolutely clear --

kept in. A huge call. It might have been inches, but if you are on the

line, you are on the line. No use looking at the touch judge, he was

in touch. You have got to know where they are.

Matthew Rees. Again, using the high ball in this wind, not sticking

short. Mistake here, chance for Edinburgh, they have plenty of men.

Chris Dean holds it up, Jamie Ritchie is there. Out it goes.

Cochrane. Tovey with the dance. Edinburgh feel the tide turning.

They have the conditions in their favour. It might not be stormed

Doris, but it's not far off it. -- stormed Doris. The referee calls the

space, they go left. Plenty of men for Edinburgh on the far side.

Cardiff stretched now. Bradbury, the concrete dustbin is below us on the

right wing of all places. They go left. Tovey takes the dummy.

Hoyland. Has a go himself. Five metres, less.

Completely on the blind-side, out of nowhere, Edinburgh have the try,

their third score, and they are cruising. The game, it all came to

buy that Mr play by the Cardiff backs and they capitalise,

Edinburgh. A magnificent switch. Completely the other way. It just

looked like it was going right. Brilliant. Sam is too quick,

thinking too much. Thinking far too quickly per them guys. I make it

that Scholes has got one in each corner in seven minutes. They

couldn't be further apart. This is one difficult kick. I bet Sam

Hidalgo-Clyne wishes he was kicking with the right foot from that side.

Might just be one of those things, with the old is stacked against him,

he might just, with the conditions, pop this over. I think they are a

positive side though, Edinburgh team should be pulling together and

saying don't let this lot score another point. That would be a real

bonus, don't let them score at all, don't let amount of their own half,

and build on that the rest of season. That is the message I would

be giving, give Cardiff nothing. I suspect somewhere watching on the

telly, Richard Cockerill is smiling. What you think, Andy Nicol? A few

minutes ago I was thinking, 12-6, see out the game, play smart but

that try transforms that. They could really finish this off on a high and

get a bonus point and get out of Dodge. It has all been positive so

far and they have taken advantage of everything that's on offer so far.

Some brilliant switches in play there by Hidalgo-Clyne to put

Scholes in for a second score. And as Andy Nicol said, they are now one

more try away from a bonus. The mentality has to be that now.

Exactly, go for the bonus point but don't give Cardiff anything, keep

them out. Sam should be exiting a lot better than that, forcing

Cardiff into the play, rather than giving them a line-out five metres

outside the 22. Tough gig for Cardiff now. They have lost that as

well. Du Preez, I thought he was going to put boot of ball but

changed his mind. Jamie Ritchie, this time. That is better, that has

found space and it is a beautiful kick from Hidalgo-Clyne. No messing

about, getting good position through a kick, open both sides of the field

of. That is great play. A wonderful steel by Ben Toolis and almost

getting in each other's way but eventually, Hidalgo-Clyne. We said

earlier, we need somebody to grab this game and say, this is what we

are going to do and this is how we are going to do it. I'm really

pleased for Sam, because a year ago he was this kid who had just arrived

and he was fresh and we were expecting big things from him and

now, looking at this team, he is one of the leaders. I think he has got a

big say in the way Edinburgh finished the season and for the

future. He is a leader and making decisions like that will take this

team in the right direction. Some half-time scores from elsewhere.

Dragons three, Leinster 14, no great surprise. Munster 21, Scarlets six.

Maybe that gap is a surprise, the scale of that lead. Munster going

well, they look to me to be the team to beat. They have been fantastic,

especially in Europe as well. When they went to Northampton, Leicester

and absolutely smashed them, it was great to see.

So Edinburgh with 20 minutes to go, this could be a big test for them.

The odds are that they should progress to get the bonus with the

next score, but this will test their mettle. Some indecision about who is

taking about. Kinghorn eventually decides and takes off after head.

Landslips and conceives an easy tackle, because this is what Cardiff

can do. It is a slack pass. You mentioned earlier about Morgan, he

is a real box of tricks, but he has got weaknesses. He hasn't got that

judgment yet. I saw him when he played against Newcastle for the

Ospreys when he was a kid and he was outstanding with the ball in hand,

but they have do click on in their career. The missed tackle was slack

and that is slack as well. As I say, when they get through the years,

they have the mature and those things are big parts of the game and

that was a big play the Cardiff and now they have lost the ball. Here is

the long legged Kinghorn. Cochrane is at the heart of

everything and again, they are using the wind. Here is Morgan again. Off

he goes, he has got gas to burn. He has to be put down at the first

tackle, which Edinburgh haven't been that successful at and it was

Hidalgo-Clyne who got to him eventually. They know they have to

score next, Cardiff, to not being totally embarrassed by the outcome.

Bradbury is not right, he is dragging his left leg and he missed

that tackle all ends up. Better off the pitch now, you don't want to get

beat on the inside as easy as that. He wasn't squaring off in defence.

He is carrying a leg, quite clearly. Well, he is carrying two but one

more than the other. Here come Cardiff on the break and this could

be a big, big blow over Edinburgh unless they get in gear to get him.

But they haven't, because they have conceded a very straight forward

score and all of a sudden, that sense of weakness in the Edinburgh

setup is there for everyone to see. That is the call I was saying about,

their defensive stats this year haven't been good enough and that is

where they have to get a lot better. They missed a tackle on the edge and

went through the middle, off-loading game, no physicality from Edinburgh.

That is the area they need to keep working out and need to dig deep and

as a team, they need to pull each other together and say, they have

just come through the middle of us, we are not physical enough, not

winning the collisions. If you are in Cardiff shoes, 17-11, likely

17-13, a completely different game. Definitely and this is what they

want, an open game. They scored eight tries last week, they want

this type of game and that is why it is important for Edinburgh to go

through it, drill the exits, drill the kick and chase. But was too easy

for Cardiff to score the try. And they want their place in the top

six. Game on. And we are inside the last 20 minutes. Again, defensive

frailties which have cost Edinburgh all season there for everyone to

see. Now Williams is starting to run. He has maybe woken up.

Edinburgh now have to impose themselves on this game, but Cardiff

have similar thoughts. And all of a sudden, they have switched their

tactics to playing much closer to each other.

Tovey sees a gap but put it straight down the throat of Cardiff, who

kicked a Kinghorn, who sees the gap again and has hooved it all the way,

again, directly to a Cardiff player. Edinburgh are kicking position away,

basically. I think Cardiff one that kicking duel. -- won. A bit of

ping-pong. David Wilkinson again stepping in to warn one of the

Cardiff players, George Earle, some nonsense of the ball. -- off the

ball. This is a perfectly winnable game for Cardiff now at 17-13.

Edinburgh taking their time. Cochrane again going long. Jamie

Ritchie, slack pass. I'm not sure it was a hospital pass, but it was a

difficult pass. Hidalgo-Clyne quicker this time. To Ben Toolis.

Again using the wind, Tovey sends it long and hard. But again, well read

by Matthew Morgan. Du Preez to Tovey who stabs it up and again it has

been read. It is too obvious and predictable and again, the tackling

is all over the place for Edinburgh. They are allowing ten, 15 metres for

Cardiff. Anscombe delivers quickly, appealing to the referee. I don't

think David Wilkinson likes that. Kicked away. Again, you suspect if

Cardiff had some better judgment in some of their-macro attacking

players, it would be better. There was far too much room there.

They have got to tighten up out there. They have got to start

speaking and talking a bit more, trying to take away the momentum

Cardiff are finding on the edges. What do you make of the ping-pong,

Andy? It is ping-pong. We need some mature team. It's a young Edinburgh

side. Good straight ball. The referee holding Cardiff back. They

have got the nudge on as well. Giraldo Klein takes the easy option.

Not deep enough to put them under pressure. Edinburgh have got

Kinghorn back. He doesn't quite get to it. Don't let it bounce. Straight

to Matthew Morgan. Kinghorn taken off the ball, much to the

displeasure of the locals. Now there is a chance. That is a kick to

anywhere. It has just lost its shape completely, the whole game, hasn't

it? You are seeing two teams that are getting edgy. They are just

kicking the leather to good field position. That last kick there from

Bryce was pretty poor. The message is to calm down and keep hold of the

ball. It is frenetic stuff, it is shapeless, it is aimless at times.

Just when Edinburgh had the game in their hand at 17-6 all of a sudden

it has turned into a dog fight. Keep an eye on the number eight at the

back. Nick Williams driving them forward. A penalty. They twisted and

terms, Edinburgh. I don't think they were ever then to get that ball.

Williams would have kicked it wide and took it tight. He will go up the

corner. Just to keep my head out, I see the rain is back with a

vengeance. And scum drills it. Didn't give it too much hyped so the

wind would catch it. The rain is teaming down now. It is a horrible

night. The roof doesn't even come half way to covering it. Cardiff

have it. They have the initiative. Edinburgh get a nudge on. They are

having to peel off the Edinburgh back line. They can't bring it down.

Williams is ducking in, headfirst. Again, they recycle it. Lloyd

Williams waits, but there's no chance of getting their hands on it.

And scum turning inside. Halaholo in the middle. Edinburgh are scrambling

out, but Cardiff are returning possession. They have a penalty

coming. Look at that sleet driving in Cardiff's face. There are times

when it is easier to break into it rather than with it. You kind of

play under the weather. They have been clever, the way they have

adjusted. They have played type. They have to battle hard here,

Edinburgh. They've got to dig in hard and get the guards and pillars

set in place and make sure nothing comes down. Danger signals form

Edinburgh. Tom James is lurking, trying to stretch the Edinburgh

defence. They are only maybe five metres out. There is only one thing

Cardiff will do here. Here it comes. They need a quick ball. They have

it. Lloyd Williams, out it comes. Another slick tackle. It is a great

tackle by Hidalgo-Clyne on Cuthbert. Loads of men here for Cardiff. There

are pink shirts everywhere. Edinburgh in dire trouble here. Du

Preez trying to much the defence. Extra men spun up all across the

field. Here they come. And scum makes the whole mess of that. Again,

it is recycled. -- Anscombe. Spinning it out. Here it comes,

one-on-one. Great defence from Edinburgh. Lloyd Williams. It's

being held up. Edinburgh had a sniff at it. Again, the forwards take it

in. They are queueing up in midfield to have a blast. Williams goes in.

They have got a lot of men, but the tackles are poor. Penalty coming to

Cardiff. Chip over the top to nothing. It is a free ball. They

have scored anyway. Edinburgh possibly going to sleep there. The

crowd are not happy with it. They were perfectly entitled to take the

kick to nothing. Over the top it went. The Edinburgh defence was

flat-footed. All of a sudden it is a completely different match. This is

where Edinburgh have got to turn that corner. When they are defending

the line-outs, I know it is difficult, but they had to get

something out of it. They were making too many of the hard yards.

That chip there, I don't know who was meant to be sweeping the, --

sweeping there, but no one was there. An easy score. I'm sure

Hidalgo-Clyne had to fill in. He should have been sweeping. He

spotted him and chipped it over. It's not a thin whistle moment, but

it is not far off it. That makes it three. Extraordinary. That has left

the game wide open. Cardiff lead by one point, but should be leading by

much more. Let's have a look at that game. A simple kick you could not

have expected. These are the moments, and here is another one.

The number seven for Cardiff, Bennetts, he scored the try and he

was just a real grafter. So my man of the match is Bennett. He scored

last week against tra visor -- Treviso. Wooded it all go wrong,

Alan Tait? It's difficult. They got the lead, they have the points, the

conditions were in their favour. That's where Edinburgh are at the

moment. I think they lack that edge. They lacked the killer instinct.

Even at the end there, is the leadership and the players need to

understand that they need to get someone with pace on the end of

something to break down the line because we were just going back and

forward. There was no one with pace really wanting to get on the ball.

There was one incident where Du Preez got the ball and he stood

still. That is where they are as a team. Duncan will be at them. They

will be working hard to try and get that knowledge into them before

Cockrell comes. He will bring that edge and he wants to win. He will be

pulling his hair rout with a game like that because he wants to win

every game. That is a good result for Cardiff, given they had two

yellow cards and all the rest of it. They wore been absolutely over the

moon. They have the worst defence apart from the Italian teams in the

league. They have got through the game got the points. We are just

waiting for the man of the match. The full-time score does not tell

half the story. It is 17-18 in favour of Cardiff, but find

something positive for me in Edinburgh's performance. The Seppi

started off well. The scrum was strong. They have got young players

because of the injuries and other duties. There are positives, it's

just that killer instinct, just to win. There will be coming in on

Monday morning, analysing that game and they will be devastated that

they threw it away. It is a top place on Monday morning coming in

for the review. They will all feel it on Monday. Let's go down to Rob

thoughts of Andy Nichol at the end of an amazing match. Fair play to

Cardiff Blues. They came back into it. I didn't think they had it in

them. This is where Edinburgh are at the moment. That game, at home with

the wind behind them, 17-6 up, those are the games they have to win. I

give credit to Cardiff Blues were coming back. I just think Edinburgh

blew it. They have so many chances. This was Neil Cochrane scoring the

first try after Cardiff incurred a yellow card. They took advantage at

this moment, certainly. They were 7-6 up at half-time. They have the

advantage of the referee. Two yellow cards in the first half. This was

some good composure here to get the first try. Early in the first of it

was good. They are holding it, they are not letting Cardiff get round.

The back goes in and they get it off the line. Now they get the momentum,

they took it over and there was no stopping them. The first half, and I

think they rammed home the advantage. 17-6 up at home, you have

to close it off. The second Edinburgh try was down in this

corner. A lovely bit of finishing from Scholes. A great pass from

Kinghorn. Poor defence from Morgan, but a great finish, right in front

of us. What I loved about Blair Kinghorn, he read it perfectly onto

the place and Scholes came through. A great school. Try in this near

corner and a trifle Scholes in the far corner as well clever play from

Hidalgo-Clyne as well. This was the end of smart player from Hoyland. He

really attacked the fringes. Hidalgo-Clyne, you can see he looks

down the blindside. Smart play. Scholes has given him the call only

got it in the corner. How do you describe what happened next were

Edinburgh? They should be looking to control the game from that point on.

With the wind behind you, you just need smart play. This was a good

try, they worked it well. This is great off-loading. Bennett, the man

of the match. He really grafted. This got Cardiff back in the game.

It gave them the believed they had a chance, but still Edinburgh were in

the lead and they had to close that game out and they just did not do

it. This is where this team has too developed. It is young, it is a

young team, but they have to learn how to close the games out. Williams

decided it for Cardiff and another switch off you would save from

Edinburgh? Yes, many phases. Some good defence from Edinburgh here.

There is a penalty advantage. Roy Williams takes a chance at a rugby

ball can bounce anywhere and it bounced straight for Lloyd Williams.

He didn't think he would get it back, but that was it. It was a

1-point victory. Kinghorn have the penalty, which was the right call.

They just did not have enough to win the game back. A horrible night

weather-wise here. And a horrible outcome by Edinburgh, beaten by that

single point. That is what it means to the Prodl table. Only the Dragons

below them and the two Italian sides. Glasgow Warriors are out of

the top four, but you will expect them to come back when they get

their international players back. Tomorrow it is Murrayfield. What

about the Six Nations? In Scotland beat Wells? They could. There is a

lot of excitement in the Scotland team. I think they are going to

score tries, which makes them dangerous. Scotland was that defence

was good against France two weeks ago. If they get to that level and

they score tries, they can win. It will be tied. Is John Barclay a good

leader for you? Yes, I'm impressed. When he came in in 2004 he was great
