Final Rugby League Autumn Internationals

Welcome to the Salford City Stadium for the final of the Autumn

International Series. It is England versus France. Kick-off is 20

minutes away and England will be entering this mamp with great --

match with great confidence after beating Tonight's opposition 44-6

last week. Good evening. Kick-off is at 1.15pm. The -- 5.15pm. The

tournament has been success for England. Next year's World Cup will

be held on these shores. The last time a British representative side

played in Salford was in 1971 when they lost to New Zealand, but just

a year later, the British team won the World Cup. You won't believe

this, it is exactly 40 years to the day that the Lions ruled the world

world. Sullivan, can he go?

I don't think anybody will catch him. Everybody say, "Go, go, go."

need this man firing on all cylinders, sam became the highest

next year's big one. The French haven't fired. They beat Wales

three weeks ago, but were toothless against England eight days ago.

They lost 44-6 and they have to do better this evening.

And if they are to do better, they will have to do it the hard way.

Self suffered several injuries ahead of tonight's game. As far as

England are concerned, Steve McNamara will want improvement from

these players with the World Cup less than 12 months away.

With me this evening here at Salford City Stadium is Brian Noble

and Ian Millward. I imagine one of the things that will be brought up,

what has been the purpose of this tournament? Has got stick in some

quarters, but you have been in the thick of it? It has been extremely

vital. We have needed quality opposition to get ourselves ready

for the World Cup next year. That's our priority. We had a poor game a

couple of weeks ago against England, but the less lessons we learned

were so important. For England, they will have learned lessons

about individuals because they have had four or five players in this

group that haven't been with them before. You learn lessons all the

time. Every time you have a camp, you learn new lessons and the

lessons they have learned will be vital for the World Cup next year.

Speaking of lessons, Steve McNamara will want some of his players to

learn lessons from the previous games. He has been critical of the

errors they made? He has. They have spent a lot of time, I spoke to to

Rangi Chase this week. Because they have been in a healthy position and

been positive with their attack, they haven't been clinical and

later next year, when they have the World Cup, Australia and New

Zealand will only pose so many opportunities. This tournament is

important to get your structure, but your combinations right and

today our defence is good. We have only conceded three tries, be more

clinical and get the combinations right and let's nail them.

Kick-off is delayed, 5.15pm the kick-off here at Salford. Let's get

a overview of how England will approach the game this evening from

Robbie. Brian Noble said for England to

improve this week, they will need to put the horse before the cart.

The players that are kicking the players over there and your outside

backs, your horses are these big boys in the middle of the pack,

your forwards. What their job will be to do is play the balls. Brian

was suggesting they will need to set a strong foundation so they

earn the right to move the ball ball out. That will be the task of

this guy. These are the players that are going to set the platform

and get the team moving forward. They will get the defence on the

back foot. That will be fantastic for players like like Kevin

Sinfield and Chase. It starts with the big boys first.

Eight days on, that moustache is receding! It is dreadful! It is

appalling! Let's not concentrate on that. Let's concentrate on the

England forwards and how powerful they are.

Yes, they are powerful and they have got extremely good players.

That's something that France are going to have to deal with and the

problem for France, if they don't start the game well, there is likes

of Morley and Hock coming off the bench. If England get on the front

foor and as Ian said, if the kicking game isn't great from the

French side, they will cause them problems.

Looking at the bigger picture Ian, it is not the players that come off

the bench for England, it is the players that aren't in the squad

for whatever reason that maybe and that strength and depth which we

talked about last week with the backs, but with the forwards is

something that could concern the southern Southern Hemisphere

countries. This is the last game of 2012 for

every player in the UK. We have got got Sam and Graham and we have got

Jack Reid from the Brisbane Broncos who is out. Today is really

important to follow instructions but be precise what you do because

this is the last chance for the coach to review you.

Ian and Brian Noble have picked their starting 13s for the first

game at the Millennium Stadium against Australia. I don't know who

is in Brian's, but Ian's might raise the odd eyebrow. Let's hear

from the two coaches this evening. They are talking to Tanya Arnold.

Steve, a comfortable win for you last week, but you weren't happy

with elements of the attack? Is that what the focus is on?

players were aware of it after the game. We got a win. It was a good

win against the French team, but we want to make sure we win this game.

We want to do that with more discipline.

You brought Chase Chase in. Why is that? He was unavailable for the

first game and Richard took his chance. I want to have a look at

Rangi and he deserves this opportunity. What are you looking

for in terms of improvement from your side today? Better kicking

game at the end of the set. We had problems with the kicking game last

last weekend. We had three injuries and it was difficult for the boys

so I would like to give our best side today and play at 17 and I

think we can expect a better result today. So we look for that. All the

boys know what the job they have to The problem of last week is that we

had good possession with the ball but we spent too much energy in

defence because we had three injuries. It was more difficult. We

did not have the option to make some breaks and to score tries.

Today, I hope it will be better for us. We can create some

opportunities to score tries and I think with a full bench, we can do

it. If they can create some opportunities, there is no doubt

who England will look to create their opportunities. That is Rangi

Chase. He is probably the most skilful and talented player in

Super League in the UK. He is probably the Ronaldo of rugby

league will stocks of the skills he can do at the things I have seen

him do in training are mind-blowing. He has to learn his composure and

his ability to build a game and take advantage of the big blokes

around him. He has all the aces in his pocket but he has to use them

at the right time. Take his time with the game. He has the full 80

minutes to show his repertoire, Iestyn Harris. Yes, it might be a

little frustrating for him. He had not had an opportunity to play. But

when he settles in, he has the full complement of such skills. He will

be dangerous tonight. I just wondered as well, his lack of rugby,

how much that will affect him. will affect him. That is why he

asked to be patient abuse the people around him, the big forwards.

-- and use the people around him. He has not played a lot and he

needs to keep that in mind. experience will be vital for the

French, Fakir. He is very influential for the French team.

Fakir has not played for six weeks. He will be struggling in the first

15 minutes. It is important French -- the French get the kicking game

right and allow him to flowing to the game. He is a damaging player

at the edges. He likes to run at the smaller players. He plays for

Catalans Dragons. He is quality. He will be important for them. When I

said they will need his experience because of their depletion has,

they have got players playing a level below Super League in the

French championship. It will be a difficulty for France and for Wales.

Key positions are so important. If you do not have the right

experience in the key positions, it is always difficult. France have

not got that. They will be looking for that energy and enthusiasm to

keep them in the game as long as possible. The teams are in the

tunnel, as you can see. Let's join the commentary team for this final

opportunist -- optimist. The French optimists are hoping that their

side can provide a stiff challenge at the very least here tonight.

Maybe put a bit of a dent in England's confidence, if they can.

It is a decent noise in this stadium. It is the Salford City

Stadium. Elima is the captain again tonight for the French. England

100-1 on to win tonight. Those kind of odds in a two-horse race up

pretty phenomenal. I think the French might give them a bit more

of a test than the bookmakers are suggesting. They will have some

damaged pride to restore as well. And be very special field of the

evening as well. This of course being Remembrance Sunday. We will

be standing shortly to will remember those who made the

ultimate sacrifice. And be very special guest here tonight to

deliver the match ball for this evening's game. We are going to be

welcoming Martin Dillons MBE you onto the pitch. He served with the

second Battalion, an infantry battalion in the British Army. He

reached the rank of sergeant he was deployed to remote compounds in

Afghanistan. During his second deployment, he was seriously

wounded by enemy fire and has since then undergone significant surgery

to his legs. It is for his exceptional professionalism and

inspirational leadership that he was awarded the MBE. It is a cliche

to say this but on a sporting occasion, when we talk about how

important and vital things are on the sporting field, his story

appearance. A wonderful warm reception from all those around the

stadium as well. They will be drawing inspiration from his

appearance here tonight. He delivers the match ball. There is

the referee this evening. From New Zealand. And the England players as

well. We will have a minute's silence, as you would expect on

Remembrance Sunday. A small part of us will also be remembering one of

the Rugby League -- rugby league greats, the last serving member of

the 1946 Great Britain Lions tour who sadly passed away a couple of

days ago at the age of 93. He was a terrific character. I was talking

to Ray French, he said he was a terrific player as well. He would

tonight. Let's remind ourselves of the way they are lining up tonight.

A few changes to both sides. The England backs, Josh Charnley comes

in for Tom Briscoe. Richie Myler is left out. In the forwards, Sean

O'Loughlin coming back into the pack at loose forward after injury.

Gareth Hock wraps a little surprisingly drops to the bench to

make way. -- perhaps. The French have been forced into several

the bench, no real surprises for England. Bousquet is drafted in for

the French because of the injury problems they have. The referee

side is expected to win and by an awfully big margin, can the French

cause then comes -- some concerns? Will England sparkle in this last

match of this England rugby league season? I think if you're an

England fan, you will want them to executed a little better than last

week. But we have to do this with the front row first, get the team

forward into a good position. For the French initially, they have got

to kick a lot better than they did last week. Bousquet had to revert

to fullback last week because of the injury to Cyril Stacul. Kevin

Sinfield was up -- was in position to get it away but a good defence

from the French has made sure that he cannot. England are at sixes and

sevens. They are forcing it through the hands. That is called simply

enough on the French will start from a better position than they

chance on putting pressure on Sinfield. When the ball went to

Tomkins. They closed the play down and ended up with great field

position because of the poor kick from Hall.

Bentley took a risk on the pass. Bentley himself. Here comes a final

tackle with the French in possession. Back it comes. It is

that worry you have with the French with the quality of their finishes.

It was rushed due to the pressure from McIlorum. It will be really

interesting as the game develops whether they can mount any pressure.

It is driven in. Can Sinfield, having to take a second opinion

before he gets the kick away. Not a bad outcome.

They are taking space off Kevin Sinfield. They have recognised his

kicking game is pivotal to him playing well. The key to that, can

they still do that? They will take their time here.

England are looking for their 15th consecutive victory against the

French. Historically everyone is on England's side as well as

everything that's gone on in this tournament as well. We have to go

back to Headingley in 198 srks the last time -- 1981, the last time

France beat England. Did you play in that game? I was

injured. I remember going to the game and watching it.

Too much to -- there wasn't too much to shake your tambourine about

that night, was there? There is Bentley. That's the kind of

toughness down the middle he offers in England and Wigan shirts. The

French having to try and kick away. The England defence was all to see.

The French only made ten meters in that last set of six.

They are sulg at the moment -- they are struggling at the minute. There

is a good run with Hill. Here he is this season playing for

England having been involved in Grand Finals and all kinds of

things. Steve McNamara, the England coach looking on as eng England try

to make the most of this position. Two tackles to go.

It is Chase who has run around into a little bit of a cul-de-sac. A

final tackle again. Sinfield with the kick. High and spiralling. Who

is underneath that one? It is Mathias Pala. You can see the

vigour from the dish dish defenders. Really, really physical with their

opposite numbers. Here comes Bentley again. There was

a high arm there from Mossop. Given a penalty.

It was a penalty. He knows it and let's the pressure off the French

team. He clipped him on the chin and for good luck, he head butts

Chris Hill as well. There is a chance for them to push

themselves back inside this English half. There was an arm swung in. It

is another penalty, back-to-back penalties and very often in the

modern game we see sides prosper when they find themselves in that

kind of a set-up. So what can the French do from here?

Field position handed to them. Five more tackles to go from here.

Bentley at dummy-half. Back to the middle they bring it again. It is

Jamal Fakir. A powerful explosive unit in the middle.

He brings a lot to the French French team. It is how long he can

last and not finish - his fitness levels will be tested.

It is spilled and spoilt by Mathias Pala. England get away with it.

That was all about execution and the quality of the England defence

on the fringe and on the edge. They put Mossop under pressure.

40 years since the last international in Salford. A week

before that Steve McNamara was born. There is a little bit of history

for you as well. I am not sure he will remember

that! Here is Hill. Quite a few players

missing from this England squad this autumn, of course, he is one

of them. England have done reasonably well in this tournament

and there are key players who have not played this autumn.

There are seven or eight, aren't there? If you include the

Australian con tin general and a few -- contingent and a few people

had operations. You have got to mention the form players and we

don't know who they are at the moment. The World Cup is next year

and who knows who is going to play themselves in. I don't think anyone

would have expected Chris Hill would be pulling on an England

shirt on 12 months ago. There will be somebody who bursts into view

out of the Super League sea. McIlorum, Sinfield helps it on.

Here comes Hill. Mossop is having a bit of treatment. He is cleared to

carry on. You see him jogging into sight. It is O'Loughlin. A descent

position. McIlorum picks it up. Rangi Chase gets it away. Simple

pass and Ryan Hall scores his 150th career try and he has done it in an

England shirt. It is the first try execution that Steve McNamara wants.

McIlorum does his part. Up to Rangi Chase. Chase plays his part here.

Knows Thompson will be on the button and Ryan Hall finishes

really, really well. McIlorum And there is a chase to Tomkins. A good

finish. We have seen him finish in

spectacular fashion over the years. He seems to turn the impossible

into the the possible. If that was one of his simpler touch downs of

those 150 and Kevin Sinfield looking to add the two here if he

can. He has already landed 17 goals in

this this tournament so far and there is number 18. There is a 6-0

lead in the opening few minutes at O'Loughlin. He ramped up into the

line and got on the front foot and ensured that McIlorum could jump

out of dumb of dummy half. The question now of the French

spirit here. They need a response and as quickly

as possible. McIlorum stands and waits. Here

comes Hill. There is a little pocket. There is the French coach,

the gentleman in the glasses there. He is hoping he will be the French

coach at the World Cup next year, but the French Federation have yet

to decide. There is a reshuffle going on amongst the French

Federation at the moment. Once they have sorted themselves out, they

will make the decision as to whether he will carry on. Here is

the final tackle of this set. Sinfield gets the kick away. He is

going to land in no-man's land. Yeah, he was all over the place and

a few of the French players were looking at each other. In the end,

it was a descent catch, wasn't it? It came down with a spiral and a

swerve, but he held on. This is driven in by Jamal Fakir. It is It

is picked up by Ellis and England given prime position inside their

owe ponen's half with -- opponent's half with six tackles from here.

This is Mossop. This is tackle one. McIlorum, and McIlorum is going to

go himself. It looks as if it went high there. The referee is happy to

let it play on. Here comes Tomkins and Sinfield. Well, he has run into

his own man, but he managed to find a route back. France hanging on.

McIlorum again. Here is O'Loughlin, they have the numbers. It has gone

behind. It is picked up by Hall and Hall is picked up. Stim Still a

couple of tackles left. So this is the last. Jones-Buchanan skipping

it away. Sinfield with a kick towards this right-hand side. It

was almost gathered in by Kallum Watkins. BP. He left for the skies.

A big off load. A passage of play. He is the man

who put down 25 meters out. Here is a Sinfield kick and what a

leap from Watkins. It is like he had glue on his hands.

He had one of those sticky notes on his hand!

Spun away. Here is Raguin. These are the mistakes that the French

side can ill afford. If they want to compete in the game for long

periods, they have to take steam out of the England team. They have

to work over a few people like McIlorum that is pivotal and

Sinfield that is pivotal. Sean O'Loughlin is carrying the ball.

Two or three times we have seen him really taking it forward with a

good deal of menace. This is Hill. There is a couple left to play.

Sinfield up to the line and spin it is back to Chase. Griffiths trying

to hold on and does, but this is the last. England looking for

momentum, it is not as quick as they wanted. Tomkins knew he was in

trouble and flicks it out. The French have held on and good

defending from the French in that case because they have gone a good

job on England closing them down. There was execution problem. You

can't really criticise. How good can they bring it out?

That was Kevin Kevin Larroyer. The England team are not missing.

It is a physical game here tonight, isn't it?

Here is Bentley. They make sure sure their man is

met, Bentley. He might have been inside when he let go of that. Ryan

Hall just about keeps hold and Tomkins testing that resolve. He

was matched stride by stride by Larroyer but only after that that

Buchanan. He was in full flight. He may not have been the best player

to have picked out. The referee has decided that Bosc has stripped the

ball. Did Jamie Jones-Buchanan have control of that? It will be

interesting to see. Let's have a attack from again. Michael McIlorum

hands on to Chris Hill. They are within a Smith of that French try

line. Rangi Chase again. Delaying and delaying. It bounces off his

own man and fans have a chance to bring it clear. -- France. That is

them another 10 metres. That is the challenge for the French. They will

not play their way around this English team. That is the mistake

offers that individual brilliance and very often the opponents do not

know what he's doing and sometimes he does not know what he's going to

danger of lifting his legs up but decided against it in the end. It

is a big effort, both in attack and defence. The English line holds out,

but for how much longer? Terrific pressure from the French. Bosc with

the little kick. It is being chased hard. Cannot take any chances. Josh

Charnley puts it out. It is a drop out. Great chase from the outside

backs. It is six more place. Josh French spirits are lifted. But can

they take advantage from the position they put themselves in?

First it is Griffi. Here comes Bousquet. Bentley stands and

weights. Left it goes again. The referee has got the decision to

make. I think the touch judge lifted his flag. This is the play

again. Nice play from Bosc. Did he get rid of the ball before he had

the sideline? I think he did. England have the head and feet. --

feed. We are trying to keep warm on the sidelines. It has been a good

start to the game. Getting that early try, France always come out

in the first 20 minutes and are always pretty strong. England

looking to finish the have well. Disappointed not to be involved.

Yes, definitely. I thought I had a good chance of playing. But like I

say, I have been fortunate to play a couple of games. But sadly I have

missed out on the final. You may make the World Cup squad. Fingers

crossed. Why has the referee not allowed advantage? He looked as

though he was looking for an advantage. I think he took a call

And Sam Tomkins went all the way to the try-line. A second of the night

for England. The French defence was left chasing shadows. They just had

a little bit of field position. They at least Sam Tomkins. --

unleashed. You just cannot give him any space. He stepped off his right,

stuck through the middle, and unfortunately, he had no chance. He

beat Larroyer, he had no chance. that Sam Tomkins was joining, the

joining Jack campaign. It really has been a fantastic success this

year. Jack Johnson is suffering from a muscular dystrophy and the

Wigan club in to declare but rugby league as a whole we has clubbed

together to raise an awful lot of second success of the night. His

second attempt of the night. It has just curled in. England lead, 12-0.

It has been a Test but it is looking good. It is your position.

We talked about execution. They have got this man in the side, he

will take any opportunity. He is such a talented player. It is all

about threats and he offers a threat. Rangi Chase offers a threat.

Support -- superb organisation Andy Gray kicking game. They may have

stumbled on a combination. That is what Steve McNamara may be thinking

Morley, Chris Hill, the Warrington front-row players. Michael McIlorum

again. It is now with Kevin Sinfield. That kick downfield

should be easy for Soubeyras. He plays for Pia. He is looking to get

it alive year. -- here. He has given the scrum down. These are the

new international rules. It is exactly for situations like this.

The player gets the ball again and place on. Under the international

rules, it is a scrum down and head and feet. I think Elima was asking

about that. It is different rules. It is a little bit unfair. It has

that element of order about it. The rules are changed over here and

half-back to Kevin Sinfield, to Gareth Ellis. Solidly in with the

Good ball over the top. Ryan Hall was always favourite to score from

that kind of position. He is over the line. Try 151 of his career.

The second of the night, the third in total for England. It was an

easy score in the end. Sean O'Loughlin, they are not many

players in the game with that kind of vision to throw the ball over

the top and execute the play. He has suggested it may have been a

knock-on from the Frenchman. He may have got that right, the official.

This is the score. Kevin Sinfield, out to Rangi Chase, looking for Sam

Tomkins. The defender is dump -- coming to try and stop that on the

release the good pass over the top four Sean O'Loughlin. Ryan Hall

goes in the corner. They are so concerned about Sam Tomkins, they

have to pay attention. The English scars of a few of the battles he

has been involved in this year. Maybe hiding some of the scars

under that bandage. That is a tough one from the touchline and he has

got it. He is on form tonight. Three out of three for Kevin

Sinfield. They are delighted with the way it is going for England so

far. This is one of the reasons why. It is a great finish. Sean

O'Loughlin because of his skill with the ball and his ability to

pass and his vision, he can open up Burrow is another who has arrived

from the bench. Sinfield under pressure again. He

has not had any comfort with his kicking game tonight. But he has

got it away and a good England chase will turn that into a descent

kick. It was a scruffy kick, but with a

great result. For England to start defensive, you have to say they

appreciate how hard these people hit each other. It is like a truck,

it really is a tough game. A great game. You can see England's

territorial advantage there, 64% to France's 36%. Possession 60% to 40%

and they dominate the scoreline most crucially.

I think what will please Steve McNamara the most, they have been

in the opposition area 20 times. It is one of the improvement areas he

wanted for the game. Jimmy Lowe is alongside him. Assistant coach at

Leeds. He was one of your players Burrow. Chase is there just hopping

away and O'Loughlin puts one over the top. It is looking good for

England. A full Back doing just enough, but

only two tackles so a lot of scope for England. A lot of menace down

the middle again. Here is burrow and Sinfield inside

for for for Jamie Jamie Jones- Buchanan. Burrow delays the pass.

We couldn't decipher the French. Good approach play from England.

They didn't find the discipline of mind to find the white shirt.

Adrian Morley leading the tackle bounce might turn it into something

else. Into the hands of Bousquet. They have got a result out a non-

result. The ball went straight up into the air. England thought, "We

will let this bounce." Always the danger.

Bosc follows his own kick, the original kick. This is a result for

the French. Well, Kevin Larroyer carrying on so the penalty went out

of play so the penalty goes England's way.

Is it Pala? It is a push and shove game so it

is a penalty. Jamie Jones-Buchanan and Morley

banging it forward again. Burrow Buchanan who has to push it forward.

Morley has lost it. He has got it again. I don't know how he managed

that. There is a Frenchman left injured on the floor as well! Here

comes Hopkins. Two spectacular passes. The first

to keep the ball in play and the second to keep it alive. The

handling from England is magnificent.

Oh, it comes off the finner tips of owe -- fingertips of O'Loughlin.

The French are trying something similar here.

Sean O'Loughlin got a biff on his cheek for his troubles.

Hopkins getting involved. Look at this. First of all, keeping it in

play. There is no choice, he is going for

the side headlines. Chase says, "I will keep you off." And there was

Hock and O'Loughlin and it was great, wasn't it?

A high tackle against the French. Well, it is a really simple thing

to say. That's not high, is it, it is just

a flop? The only way the French have got

field position is with England's ill discipline with the ball or ill

What do you want to see from both sides in the second half? With the

French, just be a little bit more aggressive. Take the England line

on a little bit more. With the England team, probably stay with

what they have got. Go into the French line and look to move the

ball wide. He has trimmed the tash since last

his defender which opens up the space for Sam Tomkins to score. He

does not meet that need much of a gap though. Great play from Sam

Tomkins. As coaches, you while going to criticise the defence but

sometimes you have to give credit to the individual brilliance.

that can play as well. The England defence has got great movement

going forward. They are pinning them at the play-the-ball. It is

fantastic. But Bosc has a fantastic kicking game. Sam Tomkins should be

on the back of the defensive line filling that all. That is where

they have to change the tempo of the attack. Sam Tomkins his way

back on the inside. There is space behind there. Sometimes it is not

always about a pass. It is about using the kick at using the in-goal

He has got the vision to make it and Hall has the vision to catch it

becoming passive and what I mean by that, I think there is a few people

It has been pretty good so far. We have made a few errors. But we have

a lot of focus on these games. People may be thinking there is not

as much going into that -- this. But we have had a good time in

South Africa and things are going really well. They had a pre-

tournament training camp in South Africa. Gareth Hock or Sam Tomkins

of the game when it is getting a little scrappy for England. It is

another cameo performance from Gareth Hock. He was offside at the

play-the-ball. He was still frustrated and then he gave the

penalty away. That is the risky while going to take if you play him
