Hello and welcome to Leigh for the second Challenge Cup semifinal of | :00:38. | :00:51.
the weekend. Last night hell Hull made it to Wembley, Warrington | :00:52. | :00:55.
Wakefield will join them. -- last night Hull made it. Warrington crown | :00:56. | :01:01.
are wonderful year with a wonderful win. Over 102,000 spectators in | :01:02. | :01:09.
Bradford. The Warrington scrum-half got the try that guaranteed victory. | :01:10. | :01:17.
Look at Wakefield playing superb textbook rugby. The record score of | :01:18. | :01:25.
38-5. That's it, congratulations to Wakefield Trinity. A victory | :01:26. | :01:31.
well-deserved. No stopping Wakefield. Ian Brooke goes over for | :01:32. | :01:35.
yet another try. Their third cup win in four years. 1974 rugby league | :01:36. | :01:47.
Challenge Cup final. Necklace running in for a second try! | :01:48. | :01:54.
Warrington haven't won a Wembley cup final in 35 years. Ooh, it's a | :01:55. | :02:00.
fabulous try by Chris Hicks. The celebrations! Atkins! He will slide | :02:01. | :02:15.
over! Three times winners in the last four years! | :02:16. | :02:23.
Well, Warrington are the favourites. This is their fifth consecutive | :02:24. | :02:30.
semifinal. But they've lost the last three including last year Sio shock | :02:31. | :02:36.
defeat to Hull KR. -- last year's shock defeat. A maiden super eight | :02:37. | :02:47.
this year for Chris Chester who took help KR -- Hull KR to Wembley last | :02:48. | :02:53.
year, can he do it again? Plenty of experience alongside me. A man who | :02:54. | :02:56.
won this trophy last season with Leeds, Jamie Peacock. Current | :02:57. | :03:01.
witness macro head coach Denis Betts, and Brian Noble. Ryan and | :03:02. | :03:06.
Jamie were alongside me last night in Doncaster where we witnessed a | :03:07. | :03:07.
really intense semifinal. COMMENTATOR: Plenty of history is | :03:08. | :03:23.
shared by these two but it is all about the here and now. Let's go, | :03:24. | :03:31.
boys. Ten metres out. Here comes Williams again, up to the line, and | :03:32. | :03:37.
reaches! Has he got that down? I think you might have. He's having a | :03:38. | :03:49.
look, he gives a try! Don't lose the aggression, be smart, boys. Ellis | :03:50. | :03:53.
cuts in on the angle, over the top of Tompkins! No try. Wigan right | :03:54. | :04:09.
underneath the Hull sticks. A gale of abuse coming from the Hull fans | :04:10. | :04:13.
as Williams throws a lovely pass. It's a forward pass. At the end of | :04:14. | :04:20.
an enthralling first half George Williams BME try scorer, and what a | :04:21. | :04:26.
try. Whatever happens we are straight back into this. Runs away | :04:27. | :04:33.
from Crosby, gets the pass inside for Ellis. Great off-load, Prichard | :04:34. | :04:40.
with a risky pass that comes off. Look at this, look at that! Michaels | :04:41. | :04:46.
into the corner! They gamble, they twist. | :04:47. | :04:58.
Snead puts the kick to the corner. He's got it, scored by Talanoa! Last | :04:59. | :05:17.
stages. Powell out of dummy half. Smith carries it in. Williams, they | :05:18. | :05:24.
are there, and they've got the try through Isa! Hull's defence finally | :05:25. | :05:35.
breached! Black and white all over. It's been wholehearted from both | :05:36. | :05:42.
sides but it's Hull FC who are going to Wembley. STUDIO: We thank Gareth | :05:43. | :05:49.
Ellis for wearing the microphone last night. He tweeted this morning | :05:50. | :05:55.
he thought we had edit it it well, presumably to take this wearing out | :05:56. | :06:00.
of it. Which you could understand, swearing, because it was so intense. | :06:01. | :06:06.
When he said it was too tense for him, I was with him. Would you have | :06:07. | :06:12.
liked to play in it? Definitely. The intensity was several levels higher | :06:13. | :06:15.
than we have seen all year, fantastic to watch, an absorbing | :06:16. | :06:20.
encounter. How hard is it for a coach, a game of that intensity, you | :06:21. | :06:24.
are not seeing free-flowing rugby league but you are seeing brutal, | :06:25. | :06:29.
really good defensive rugby league. Great game from my perspective | :06:30. | :06:33.
watching it. Fantastic play, they knew what they needed to do. For a | :06:34. | :06:37.
semifinal to be so hard-fought, nothing was easy, nobody got | :06:38. | :06:43.
anything given to them last night, every inch was counted for, every | :06:44. | :06:47.
tackle was painful. Blood and everything in that game. Not a | :06:48. | :06:52.
massively skilful game with lots of things on show but for a purist | :06:53. | :06:56.
fantastic game of rugby league with two sides, one happy today, the | :06:57. | :07:02.
other feeling sorry for themselves. And it doesn't half give Hull belief | :07:03. | :07:05.
for the rest of the season given that they are top of the Super | :07:06. | :07:08.
League as well, and looking at a Challenge Cup Grand Final double. | :07:09. | :07:13.
Their form has been good and their big players rock up at the best | :07:14. | :07:17.
time. Gareth Ellis is pivotal to their performance, he steadied the | :07:18. | :07:20.
ship. If he hadn't played I'm not sure they would have got over the | :07:21. | :07:25.
line, it was that close. With the game breakers in their team it's | :07:26. | :07:27.
bound to give them confidence moving through the rest of the season. They | :07:28. | :07:32.
need to get their feedback down on Earth and get going forward in Super | :07:33. | :07:36.
League. It's interesting with the tries. I thought Hull, in a 15 | :07:37. | :07:41.
minute period, they absorbed everything Wigan gave, and that's | :07:42. | :07:45.
where they won it, having great resolve. And now would you expect | :07:46. | :07:50.
them, I have not looked at the arts, but would you expect them to be | :07:51. | :07:54.
favourites for the Challenge Cup, bearing in mind that last night they | :07:55. | :07:57.
were third favourites for the trophy? If I was a bookie I wouldn't | :07:58. | :08:02.
be stood here talking to you, would I? I'm not really sure about the | :08:03. | :08:07.
odds. They have just made the Challenge Cup final. Top of Super | :08:08. | :08:12.
League after 20 rounds. Do they deserve to be favourites? Of course | :08:13. | :08:15.
they do. They are the best at this point in the season. But we will | :08:16. | :08:21.
see, the other form team, Warrington, that could change the | :08:22. | :08:25.
significantly on the day. Let's show you just what Warrington's form | :08:26. | :08:30.
means as regards the Super League table. At the stage of the season | :08:31. | :08:34.
where we are about to go into super eights. Warrington go into that in | :08:35. | :08:40.
second place. Wakefield are in the super eights as well, having | :08:41. | :08:44.
finished eighth. Now, they were languishing near the bottom of the | :08:45. | :08:48.
table when head coach Chris Chester took over in March following his | :08:49. | :08:52.
departure from Hull KR. And of course that was a Hull KR side that | :08:53. | :08:57.
he led to last season's Challenge Cup final but that's a memory he | :08:58. | :08:58.
wants to forget. Leads are running riot! Never before | :08:59. | :09:11.
has a Challenge Cup final witnessed quite as emphatic victory and stand. | :09:12. | :09:18.
A 50 point winning margin! There is a beaten man. The final, to this | :09:19. | :09:24.
day, I have still not watched, I cannot bring myself to watch it. | :09:25. | :09:29.
Tough day and it hurt like hell on Saturday at five o'clock and it | :09:30. | :09:33.
still hurts now. That's made me want to go back again this year with this | :09:34. | :09:39.
group of players. As I talk to you 80 minutes away from being back at | :09:40. | :09:43.
Wembley, as a coach are you able to draw on that experience, albeit a | :09:44. | :09:48.
horrible experience? There's certain things I've done different. On the | :09:49. | :09:54.
day I don't think the preparation was as good as what it could have | :09:55. | :09:58.
been. We are 80 minutes away from Wembley and if that is not | :09:59. | :10:01.
motivation enough, they should not be playing this game. The turnaround | :10:02. | :10:06.
has been remarkable from where Wakefield were, almost out of Super | :10:07. | :10:12.
League. How on earth has that happened? I knew when I took on the | :10:13. | :10:16.
job that we had a good group of players, just a matter of getting | :10:17. | :10:19.
these guys to believe in themselves a little bit more. No fear of | :10:20. | :10:26.
failing out on the field, it's just getting them to express themselves a | :10:27. | :10:29.
bit more and play with some confidence and some passion. They | :10:30. | :10:34.
have certainly done that in the last 12 to 14 weeks. So, this semifinal, | :10:35. | :10:39.
do you have players to hurt Warrington? We are confident. The | :10:40. | :10:45.
pressure is off. Super League status secure for another 12 months so we | :10:46. | :10:49.
can go and enjoy ourselves. We have been written off already in the | :10:50. | :10:54.
press but my guys have been written off every game this year and we've | :10:55. | :10:58.
proved a few people wrong. Hopefully we can prove a few people run on | :10:59. | :11:02.
Saturday. Leading Wakefield to Wembley, would that be a bigger | :11:03. | :11:06.
achievement than what you did at Hull KR? It would certainly be my | :11:07. | :11:10.
proudest achievement, being a Wakefield lad as well. I understand | :11:11. | :11:15.
what the club has been through over the last ten to 15 years. So to walk | :11:16. | :11:21.
Wakefield, my hometown club, out at Wembley, would be a great | :11:22. | :11:25.
achievement, for my friends and family, and the great supporters | :11:26. | :11:29.
that have followed this club through thick and thin. STUDIO: He talks | :11:30. | :11:33.
about having to give what he found a good group of players greater | :11:34. | :11:36.
belief, is it as simple as that, how he turned it round? I am sure there | :11:37. | :11:42.
are things he has done in practice, his own ideas. Certainly galvanising | :11:43. | :11:45.
the team and getting them to believe in themselves is a huge challenge in | :11:46. | :11:49.
this day and age but however he has done that he has done it. No doubt | :11:50. | :11:53.
they are a different team to the team he took over. He has certainly | :11:54. | :11:58.
encapsulated that with them. He talks about removing the fear of | :11:59. | :12:02.
failure, does that mean players being scared to try something they | :12:03. | :12:06.
otherwise might, if they were in a higher placed side? Most coaches | :12:07. | :12:11.
were about being fearless with your approach to how you practice and | :12:12. | :12:14.
what you want to get out of the game. The anxiety around again at | :12:15. | :12:18.
the bottom, the pressures put on them from their coach motherboard | :12:19. | :12:25.
and fans, can play a big part. If he has stripped away that, which it | :12:26. | :12:29.
looks like he has, this is a good group of players. They have | :12:30. | :12:32.
recruited well in the off-season and brought a good group of players | :12:33. | :12:36.
together. Chris has galvanised it and let them go out and play. They | :12:37. | :12:39.
have shocked people by winning games they should not have won this year. | :12:40. | :12:44.
Dennis has been relishing the next question I am going to ask. Why do | :12:45. | :12:53.
you get rid of him at Hull KR? He has a relaxed style of coaching. | :12:54. | :12:59.
What he came up with year was not where it needed to be for Hull KR. | :13:00. | :13:02.
I'm pleased it has worked out for him at Wakefield. The relaxed group | :13:03. | :13:09.
of coaching suits that group. That's why you are seeing the players play | :13:10. | :13:13.
to their potential. You always want to see a guy back in work. It's got | :13:14. | :13:17.
to be the right man for the right club at the right time. Suddenly and | :13:18. | :13:21.
he is the right man at the right time for Wakefield. Let's look at | :13:22. | :13:26.
one of their players who is crucial and you would say has found himself | :13:27. | :13:29.
at Wakefield, Jacob Miller. That's a good expression. He came over as an | :13:30. | :13:34.
Australian schoolboy superstar and went to Hull FC with a lot of | :13:35. | :13:38.
pressure and expectation and no facility to fail in anyway, shape or | :13:39. | :13:43.
form. He has grown here. He goes in and out of the line. Great elusive | :13:44. | :13:49.
running style. If he finds a willing runner he will find him near the | :13:50. | :13:54.
line. He looks far more comfortable. He's more accomplished. He's more | :13:55. | :13:58.
comfortable kicking the ball and I think Liam Finn has helped him. He | :13:59. | :14:02.
has taken a bit of the responsibility away to organise the | :14:03. | :14:07.
team. But he will look to pass. His biggest asset and facet of his play | :14:08. | :14:11.
is he will take the line on, play for himself, find a chip kick. He | :14:12. | :14:15.
can pass. His kicking game is superb. He will find the windows. | :14:16. | :14:23.
Instinctive player. Follows the ball a lot, very busy. He enjoys the | :14:24. | :14:27.
relaxed style Chris Chester has given him. He is flourishing in that | :14:28. | :14:34.
role and that ethos of coaching. Well, let's talk to a man who is | :14:35. | :14:38.
part of our commentary team today who is working for Wakefield next | :14:39. | :14:43.
season, John Keogh will be the head of rugby. He is in the gantry. What | :14:44. | :14:50.
will you look to do their next season to add to what they have done | :14:51. | :14:55.
this year with Chris Chester? Yeah, well, it's simply a case of just | :14:56. | :15:00.
adding value to whatever Chris has done. Whether on the training field, | :15:01. | :15:03.
practice field, in the structures and systems off the field with the | :15:04. | :15:07.
recruitment, team meetings or whatever. It will very much be a | :15:08. | :15:13.
partnership and we will look to get the best out of this group of | :15:14. | :15:16.
players but he's done a pretty good job already. So I don't know what | :15:17. | :15:24.
he'll leave me! I was going to ask whether they actually needed you! | :15:25. | :15:28.
But your relationship with Chris Chester is crucial, yes? It is. I | :15:29. | :15:34.
have known Chris since he was a 16-year-old at an elite training | :15:35. | :15:37.
camp when I was cutting my teeth in coaching. And I coached him at Hull | :15:38. | :15:41.
FC when we had the great victory in 2005. Me and Crisco back a very long | :15:42. | :15:47.
way. We are relaxed in each other's company. I believe he's an excellent | :15:48. | :15:51.
coach and I think he trusts my abilities so I think it will be a | :15:52. | :15:55.
great fit. But you can't think about that just yet, because you have | :15:56. | :16:02.
Batley in the middle late. We have enjoyed every minute and we will | :16:03. | :16:04.
enjoy every minute of the remaining season. Mark Noble will take us | :16:05. | :16:12.
through the team. Max Jowitt gets the nod at full-back. Ben Jones | :16:13. | :16:17.
Bishop and the speedster flying to Toronto next season, Craig Hall. | :16:18. | :16:25.
Local boys Reece Lyne and Joe Arundel complete the three quarters. | :16:26. | :16:29.
And here is where the game will be won and lost for Wakefield. | :16:30. | :16:33.
Australian Jacob Miller on fire at the moment with the vastly | :16:34. | :16:36.
experienced Liam Finn organising everything for the team. No stranger | :16:37. | :16:42.
to Challenge Cup, Nick Scruton partners firebrand in the middle, | :16:43. | :16:47.
Scott Moore, ex-Saint Helens and David defeated starts, a recruit | :16:48. | :16:55.
from the Sharks. -- David Fifita. Jason Walton, the local product | :16:56. | :17:03.
alongside Michael Sio. Another academy star, Jordan Crowther | :17:04. | :17:05.
partner in the recent signing Andy Yates. Arona and Danny Kirmond, | :17:06. | :17:15.
captain of this proud club, complete the bench. Jamie is a bit worried | :17:16. | :17:22.
Jonny Wilkinson's trousers are so tight they might split if he joins | :17:23. | :17:28.
in with the warm up. I'm getting a little bit of stick behind me from | :17:29. | :17:31.
the Wakefield fans but that's expected. Brian Smith left this | :17:32. | :17:35.
organisation in March, Chris Chester took over and everything became | :17:36. | :17:39.
relaxed. Sometimes the key to getting the best out of your players | :17:40. | :17:43.
is the environment you create. Some players who have really relish that | :17:44. | :17:47.
is Liam Finn, half-back, he is a fantastic player. Dominates the ball | :17:48. | :17:53.
for this Wakefield side. We've also got Jacob Miller, he has been an | :17:54. | :17:57.
instinctive rugby player all his life and been fantastic for | :17:58. | :18:01.
Wakefield. Thanks mate, it's been a good season. The boys are enjoying | :18:02. | :18:04.
what we are doing and enjoying each other's company. Smiles on faces, a | :18:05. | :18:09.
big day for Wakefield? It is massive for the city and the whole club. We | :18:10. | :18:13.
know it's a massive occasion but we've got our hands full today. All | :18:14. | :18:20.
the best, play well. A gentle jog and the seems just about held | :18:21. | :18:24.
together. That move onto Warrington, a side full of big names. | :18:25. | :18:40.
They are the big names in this Warrington squad. However no Kevin | :18:41. | :19:23.
Penny today, he is missing. Brian will take you through the players | :19:24. | :19:29.
playing. They will play and be brilliant, Stefan Ratchford at | :19:30. | :19:32.
full-back. Third highest break in Super League. Matty Russell on one | :19:33. | :19:37.
wing and Rhys Evans, the Welsh international, normally in the | :19:38. | :19:41.
centre, moves out to the right-wing. In the centre is the young academy | :19:42. | :19:45.
star Toby King partner in the fastly experienced veterinary napkins. And | :19:46. | :19:51.
here's the runner. Kurt Gidley been brilliant since signing from | :19:52. | :19:53.
Newcastle Knights alongside the mercurial Chris Sandow who will make | :19:54. | :20:00.
it up from anywhere. A giant front row, England internationals Chris | :20:01. | :20:04.
Hill and Daryl Clark, and Australia and Fiji international Ashton Sims. | :20:05. | :20:10.
And what a fabulous speedy back row we have a Warrington, Ben Currie, | :20:11. | :20:14.
Joe Westerman and Jack Hughes. Coming from the bench, brother of | :20:15. | :20:18.
Toby King, George King, alongside the veteran six time Challenge Cup | :20:19. | :20:24.
winner, Ryan Bailey. Ben Westwood and Brad Dwyer Compleat the bench. | :20:25. | :20:31.
Robbie Hunter is with them as their warm up comes to an end. | :20:32. | :20:35.
Just catching the guys as they walk back in, some of the best players in | :20:36. | :20:40.
the competition. I'm going to grab Ashton Sims. Good luck today, do you | :20:41. | :20:46.
think the game will be won or lost in the forwards? I reckon it will | :20:47. | :20:51.
be. 20 of emotion, just like last night's game. Both teams are ready | :20:52. | :20:56.
to go, let's do it. How exciting is it for the forward pack to get the | :20:57. | :21:00.
opportunity to get to the final? We want to start on the front foot | :21:01. | :21:03.
against a really good Wakefield team. We are ready to go, it's been | :21:04. | :21:07.
a great week, and we are going to put that out on the paddock now. We | :21:08. | :21:12.
had a discussion last night that for Warrington today in many ways they | :21:13. | :21:17.
cannot win. Did you understand that when we were having that discussion | :21:18. | :21:21.
last night? I think so. I understand what you are saying about hot | :21:22. | :21:24.
favourites, all the superstars in that team. In one respect I would | :21:25. | :21:32.
like to be Chris Chester saying, nobody has given us a chance, let's | :21:33. | :21:36.
rock the world. I think they will be very ready. He can say that, Chris | :21:37. | :21:40.
Chester, it's probably exactly what he said to his Hull KR side a year | :21:41. | :21:47.
ago. He's been saying it all season. Let's be fearless, let's go out and | :21:48. | :21:52.
play, what have we got to lose? Everybody thinks we will get knocked | :21:53. | :21:55.
out, let's go out there fearless and go and play. But you can see a glint | :21:56. | :22:02.
in their eyes. I spoke to Tony Smith before the game and they are ready. | :22:03. | :22:06.
I think it's going to be a hard task for Wakefield. I agree, when you | :22:07. | :22:12.
lose semifinal as overwhelming favourite it stays with you to the | :22:13. | :22:15.
following year, and they have the chance to put that right. Does it | :22:16. | :22:19.
stay with you in a positive sense? The herd of last year, you don't | :22:20. | :22:24.
want to let it happen again, rather than the negative, blimey, we've | :22:25. | :22:28.
been here before with yellow that's the way they will approach it, to | :22:29. | :22:30.
give them Warrington have had bits in | :22:31. | :22:39.
intensity throughout the year. If Wakefield play well they can score a | :22:40. | :22:43.
few points. There is an old saying you've got to lose one to win one. | :22:44. | :22:47.
Warrington have lost three, they know what it looks like to be in a | :22:48. | :22:51.
Wembley final, they know what it tastes like. Kurt Gidley is a | :22:52. | :22:55.
fantastic player. He's not played a lot of big games. He has only played | :22:56. | :23:01.
in one play-off game for straight. This is a massive chance for him to | :23:02. | :23:08.
push on into a final. Let's look at the relationship between Gidley and | :23:09. | :23:12.
Sandow. The best half-backs partnership in the competition. | :23:13. | :23:14.
Sandow will run all the time. Any time you seems a forward isolated he | :23:15. | :23:19.
will take off. He is absolutely electrifying. It is the forward in | :23:20. | :23:26.
space that is the problem, isolated. If you see Sandow score today, you | :23:27. | :23:30.
will see space around the player. His kicking game is absolutely | :23:31. | :23:35.
outstanding. Now, Kurt Gidley is different altogether. He is the glue | :23:36. | :23:40.
between the side. He takes them round the pitch. He'll decide what | :23:41. | :23:45.
style and tempo of the game will be. He's the perfect foil to Sandow and | :23:46. | :23:50.
an outstanding player as well. I agree, the partnership they have | :23:51. | :23:55.
together, his kicking game is meticulous and compliments Sandow. | :23:56. | :23:59.
He is an individual target kick. But they will find them and also find a | :24:00. | :24:09.
pass. He's very strong, Gidley. Great tactician, understands the | :24:10. | :24:12.
game and understands what needs to be done. Somebody to guide them | :24:13. | :24:19.
round the field. When they brought in Kurt Gidley they found somebody. | :24:20. | :24:24.
He barks at the players, pushes them where he wants them. Doesn't do a | :24:25. | :24:28.
lot of flash stuff but puts the team where they are supposed to be. It | :24:29. | :24:32.
was fascinating when we had him on the player microphone against | :24:33. | :24:36.
Widnes. It gave as a completely different perspective. It shows our | :24:37. | :24:42.
viewers particularly how important those types of players are, and | :24:43. | :24:47.
their communication. He would be the guy saying, you need to be over | :24:48. | :24:52.
there, Chapman you don't need to be on the pitch, Dennis needs to run on | :24:53. | :24:59.
this side of me. You were like that. The thought of having to play rugby | :25:00. | :25:02.
with any of you three just scares me. The Warrington head coach now. | :25:03. | :25:09.
Fighting, fit, fresh and ready to go. Not personally, but your teen? | :25:10. | :25:14.
They are, they are in good shape after a good week. Good build-up so | :25:15. | :25:20.
far, we have enjoyed our week. We did not pick up any injuries in the | :25:21. | :25:24.
past week so that's always good. We are pretty much unchanged. When it's | :25:25. | :25:30.
Wembley or bust, as it is in semifinals, what are those occasions | :25:31. | :25:35.
like on the day? It's exciting. It's handling that pressure. Everybody | :25:36. | :25:38.
knows the ramifications of a good and bad performance. We want to put | :25:39. | :25:43.
out our best performance but it is pressure, you know. It's how you | :25:44. | :25:46.
handle that pressure and how that converts into what you do out on the | :25:47. | :25:50.
park. But it's still a game of rugby league. And it's the team who | :25:51. | :25:55.
handles that pressure and those situations the best that gets | :25:56. | :25:58.
through on these sorts of occasions. We are looking forward to it and | :25:59. | :26:03.
excited about it. Queen you are massive odds on favourite according | :26:04. | :26:04.
to the you are massive odds-on favourite, | :26:05. | :26:14.
is that the burden? We will just go home, then! Sport in general is down | :26:15. | :26:17.
to the best team on the day. It doesn't matter who is fancied, there | :26:18. | :26:21.
have always been underdogs who come up and have wings and all that | :26:22. | :26:25.
business. We are not concerned about what the bookmakers or punters are | :26:26. | :26:29.
doing. We will do our best for each other and for our supporters. We are | :26:30. | :26:33.
going to have great support out there today. We will make it feel | :26:34. | :26:38.
like a home game. Doesn't really matter what people predict or not, | :26:39. | :26:42.
it's a game of rugby league and you've got to go out parent to the | :26:43. | :26:46.
business. Thank you, good luck. They've obviously had their final | :26:47. | :26:52.
chat, Jamie Peacock. We'll Tony Smith have mentioned previously | :26:53. | :26:55.
final heard? That might have been built up during the week but now it | :26:56. | :26:59.
is about focusing on here and now, and how to deal with Wakefield | :27:00. | :27:06.
threats. They are used to play under expectations and pressure, they are | :27:07. | :27:10.
one of the top sides in rugby league. I don't think he will have | :27:11. | :27:14.
mentioned it today. The focus might have been at the start of the week, | :27:15. | :27:19.
the players might have mentioned it. But I think the focus will be | :27:20. | :27:23.
putting their best show of the season out at this time. How do | :27:24. | :27:28.
Wakefield start this game? What is crucial in the first 15 to 20 | :27:29. | :27:34.
minutes? They have to start well. What you need is error-free rugby | :27:35. | :27:39.
for a period of time. Pushed the ball into the right positions, don't | :27:40. | :27:45.
miss tackles. The game will unfold. If your front row dropped the ball, | :27:46. | :27:48.
if you're half does not put the right kick in, you are under | :27:49. | :27:54.
pressure. Then you are having to play catch up. I am excited about | :27:55. | :28:00.
today. Full stadium, semifinal, you are about to do what you are great | :28:01. | :28:03.
at doing, playing rugby. Can't think of a better thing to do for | :28:04. | :28:08.
Wakefield or a Warrington player. Are you missing this? Just a little | :28:09. | :28:12.
bit. You mean you would rather be out there playing rugby than stood | :28:13. | :28:18.
there talking to myself and Dennis? How do you see it before we go to | :28:19. | :28:22.
the commentary team? Warrington will be too strong. Wakefield will have | :28:23. | :28:28.
two Compleat at a high rate and kick well to have any chance. Warrington | :28:29. | :28:35.
and the way they play, pressure and pressure. If they keep all the ball, | :28:36. | :28:39.
you have to score points because Warrington will score points today. | :28:40. | :28:43.
The teams are out. Hull waiting in the final at Wembley. This is the | :28:44. | :28:47.
second semifinal in the Challenge Cup. To the commentary team. | :28:48. | :28:58.
COMMENTATOR: Familiar moment of high tension for Warrington. Fifth | :28:59. | :29:01.
consecutive Challenge Cup semifinal. But the last three have all ended in | :29:02. | :29:06.
heartbreak. Wakefield have been making a habit of smashing through | :29:07. | :29:10.
blast ceilings this season. On course for the highest. Could they | :29:11. | :29:19.
be on their way to Wembley for the first time in 37 years? Well, they | :29:20. | :29:25.
looked reasonably relaxed, don't they? In the line-up. One piece of | :29:26. | :29:34.
team news that will not be a free assurance to their fans is the fact | :29:35. | :29:39.
that their captain, Danny Kirmond, is only on the bench. But they look | :29:40. | :29:47.
confident. There does not seem to be an element of nervousness. What | :29:48. | :29:51.
about Chris Chester? Hoping to join an exclusive list of coaches to take | :29:52. | :29:54.
two different teams to a Wembley final. Warrington today have Stefan | :29:55. | :30:04.
Ratchford in. He was taken off as a precaution with a head injury | :30:05. | :30:07.
against Huddersfield last week but returns. Gidley, a high-class | :30:08. | :30:13.
runner, who steers this side around. Chris Sandow, with mercurial magic, | :30:14. | :30:18.
given half a chance. Tom Johnstone, the eye-catching winner, missing. | :30:19. | :30:25.
Matty Ashurst tempted to play with a broken jaw but he doesn't. Danny | :30:26. | :30:29.
Kirmond only on the bench today, which suggests he is carrying an | :30:30. | :30:31.
injury. Gareth Heuer is our referee today. | :30:32. | :30:53.
This game has a lot to live up to after last night's semifinal where | :30:54. | :30:59.
we saw blood and thunder for 80 units. Ashton Sims has started with | :31:00. | :31:03.
a lot of thunder. Let us get the early thoughts from John and John. | :31:04. | :31:12.
They will be happy with that, Warrington Wolves. They need to look | :31:13. | :31:20.
after the ball in this early part and a good kick. Sandow is one of | :31:21. | :31:32.
the exciting players. I think it is 40-20. I think it was. | :31:33. | :31:45.
Chris Sandow is renowned for that. What a great start for Warrington in | :31:46. | :31:54.
this Challenge Cup semifinal. Fantastic. Wakefield haven't touched | :31:55. | :32:03.
the ball yet. Another set of six to defend here. Intense scrutiny. Yes, | :32:04. | :32:14.
15 metres away from your own line. A full set of six to defend. Welcome | :32:15. | :32:19.
to semifinal rugby league. This could be an exciting game. Wakefield | :32:20. | :32:27.
are suggesting they have the fight and pedigree. This is a big couple | :32:28. | :32:36.
of tackles. Less than ten away. Across the Commons. He'd leave. -- | :32:37. | :32:49.
Gidley. Sandow with a little step back on the right foot. Eventually | :32:50. | :32:55.
they make the tackle complete. They have survived for, what about the | :32:56. | :33:07.
next two? Westerman still driving. At dummy half. A roar of relief. | :33:08. | :33:21.
There are questions over the defence for Wakefield. They have missed more | :33:22. | :33:26.
tackles than anyone in this super league season, but a great start | :33:27. | :33:34.
with the defending line. It's interesting to see. There is David | :33:35. | :33:52.
Fifita. Liam Finn has Wembley experience. He played for Castleford | :33:53. | :34:04.
in 2015 in the final. His halfback partner played in the 2013 final. | :34:05. | :34:14.
Ratchford has lost the ball. The referee says it is not on. Finger in | :34:15. | :34:23.
the air. A bonus for Wakefield. It is Warrington's turn to answer the | :34:24. | :34:33.
questions regarding resolve. Ratchford has a responsibility to | :34:34. | :34:35.
look after the ball in the collision. When you look at this | :34:36. | :34:44.
game, before I came here today, I thought the only way Wakefield could | :34:45. | :34:48.
win is to take advantage of Warrington's Everest. That is a | :34:49. | :34:59.
simple handling error. An opportunity for Wakefield to attack | :35:00. | :35:03.
after a positive start. A good platform from which to build. Scott | :35:04. | :35:06.
Moore goes light. He has the man isolated. The opening | :35:07. | :35:28.
try! Craig Hall scores. The referee gives it an Wakefield have the dream | :35:29. | :35:39.
start to this semifinal. What a fantastic try. Wakefield's first | :35:40. | :35:48.
opportunity and they took for opportunity in releasing Craig Hall | :35:49. | :35:51.
for that try down the left-hand side. This is the error from | :35:52. | :36:00.
Ratchford. Great work from more macro. What a peach of a pass from | :36:01. | :36:03.
Jacob Miller. -- more a magnificent start for the | :36:04. | :36:28.
Wakefield Trinity side. Liam Finn with a chance to add the | :36:29. | :36:48.
two. He is an outstanding player in the championship, year after year. | :36:49. | :36:55.
Given his chance when he was signed for Castleford. His last three or | :36:56. | :36:59.
four years in the super league, he really has taken that opportunity. A | :37:00. | :37:09.
good kick from the touchline. A terrific kick from the touchline. | :37:10. | :37:17.
Wakefield lead 6-0. If you want your nerve settling, that is the way to | :37:18. | :37:22.
do it. Tremendous defence online and as soon as you get the opportunity, | :37:23. | :37:30.
marvellous attacking. There may be a question over the past from the | :37:31. | :37:37.
Wakefield fans, but not from the man who it is most important too. There | :37:38. | :37:44.
has been an element of disbelief regarding Wakefield's season. | :37:45. | :37:46.
Everyone expected them to finish rock bottom. They have climbed the | :37:47. | :37:56.
table with some real eye-catching games. | :37:57. | :38:09.
36-28th at Bellevue, which underlined the pedigree. There have | :38:10. | :38:15.
been some seeds of doubt in the Warrington side with three defeats | :38:16. | :38:21.
on the bounce. When you have such expectation on you, it is crippling. | :38:22. | :38:26.
I think Scott Moore has been outstanding. Really smart with a | :38:27. | :38:30.
dummy half and Wakefield have been positive with the ball. Putting | :38:31. | :38:40.
Warrington into bad spots. They are not where they want to be six | :38:41. | :38:47.
minutes into the semifinal. A penalty for Warrington which should | :38:48. | :38:50.
see them starting the set close to the halfway line. Defensively | :38:51. | :38:56.
Wakefield have been spot on until then. That has just given Warrington | :38:57. | :39:05.
easy yards up the pitch, so they have a good attacking sets. Ryan | :39:06. | :39:12.
Atkins, who was once a Wakefield player, of course. Taken on by Chris | :39:13. | :39:29.
Hill. Closer and closer to the line. Ratchford was hunting just on the | :39:30. | :39:34.
outside, but they get another penalty. Too much going on in the | :39:35. | :39:39.
tackle. This is where differences are tested. A little bit of pressure | :39:40. | :39:45.
doesn't do anything, but sustained pressure kills at this level. Here | :39:46. | :39:54.
is Clarke. Gidley has gone wide to the right. | :39:55. | :40:10.
The ball is not down, the referee says play on. Reece Lyne. The | :40:11. | :40:20.
referee will call him back for a knock-on. Reece Lyne was getting all | :40:21. | :40:32.
excited, so we'll wait, but it meant nothing. Two Noppon 's. -- knock-on | :40:33. | :40:46.
is. That could have been a free play. Good instinctive response from | :40:47. | :40:53.
Reece Lyne. Warrington get the ball again. The people at home, if you | :40:54. | :41:00.
watch the difference between Gidley and Sandow, Sandow plays of the back | :41:01. | :41:06.
of Gidley's organisational skills. Second row position. Ratchford. | :41:07. | :41:34.
Westerman and Hill. Hill is close, but not enough. Westerman again. He | :41:35. | :41:44.
eventually comes out. Westerman to Ratchford. Where is this going? It | :41:45. | :41:52.
is a tap back on the 20 metre mark. Waste filled -- Wakefield are just | :41:53. | :42:00.
growing and growing. They looked comfortable and assured and | :42:01. | :42:04.
confident. It was a poor kick from Sandow in my opinion. He needs to | :42:05. | :42:11.
give the chaser is a chance to attack the ball. A good start for | :42:12. | :42:17.
Wakefield. As a coach, you would be happy with this? You can see the | :42:18. | :42:21.
belief growing. It is growing and growing and growing. Sio struggles | :42:22. | :42:31.
to his feet. Somehow got the ball away to Reece Lyne. Miller will be | :42:32. | :42:44.
hoping he is onside. He has knocked it on. Miller just let up. The | :42:45. | :42:51.
referee says backwards. He says backwards. Whether it is backwards | :42:52. | :42:55.
or not, it is a nasty ball to collect. The flight of the ball was | :42:56. | :43:01.
affected and Jacob Miller went across his eye line. They will be | :43:02. | :43:06.
fortunate to get away with that. Jacob Miller may have given us the | :43:07. | :43:13.
insight into what tactics should be used. Twice Warrington have gone | :43:14. | :43:24.
down. Conditions are good for catches, not a lot of wind. Maybe | :43:25. | :43:28.
going into the air will be the technique to use today. Sandow puts | :43:29. | :43:38.
it higher. Not scared to go inside. Jow it has played at Wembley before | :43:39. | :43:45.
in a score final. Yes seven. There is an opportunity to test them | :43:46. | :43:55.
again. Craig Hall is on his way to Toronto next year. | :43:56. | :44:06.
Wakefield deep inside their own half if they can. There is a man that | :44:07. | :44:15.
carries a lot of weight. Wakefield are not renowned for coming out of | :44:16. | :44:22.
yardage. As a result, Ratchford is in positions he probably would not | :44:23. | :44:35.
want to be in. The head coach and first-team coach together. They have | :44:36. | :44:38.
a chance of winning a treble this year. Trying to off-load, but can't. | :44:39. | :44:53.
Clark washes in at dummy half. It looks like Reece Lyne was | :44:54. | :45:05.
off-balance. It is OK. Here comes the last. Wakefield again are close | :45:06. | :45:09.
to their own line as Warrington looked to apply the pressure again. | :45:10. | :45:15.
Evans gets there, just carries it forward. And Wakefield survive | :45:16. | :45:24.
again. Yes, they do, but that was a contested ball in the air. Although | :45:25. | :45:32.
Evans did not claim it, once it is in the air, it is 15-50. -- 50-50. | :45:33. | :45:42.
If it is on the ground, it favours the defensive players. You can have | :45:43. | :45:48.
a poor sets, but you can put a good kick in with a great chaser and | :45:49. | :45:56.
finish nicely and get a great result. Quite a bit of yardage here. | :45:57. | :46:05.
Hall has kept it alive well enough. They have restricted the Wakefield | :46:06. | :46:14.
side, this set of six. It was needed. They need to be aggressive | :46:15. | :46:20.
with the yardage and they have done that. We have got a doctor on the | :46:21. | :46:26.
field at the moment, so the referee is going to hold things up just a | :46:27. | :46:33.
minute whilst Toby King gets seen to. There is one of the greats. 6268 | :46:34. | :46:46.
points in his career. He played the 20 years and played 30 matches every | :46:47. | :47:00.
year and scored ten points. Some 3-point tries as well. Here comes | :47:01. | :47:06.
Evans, the Welshman. Running it back. Ratchford and now Ashton sins. | :47:07. | :47:28.
-- Ashton Sims. They can turn this around in the flickering of an eye. | :47:29. | :47:40.
A couple of tackles to go. Hughes is trying to force his way over. He is | :47:41. | :47:45.
over the line, but I think he is going to be held up. The referee is | :47:46. | :47:51.
asking a question here, I think. He thinks it is a try. We had to find | :47:52. | :47:56.
out from the video referee, so let us hear for the first time today | :47:57. | :48:08.
from Phil Bentham. Yes, that is great, thank you. | :48:09. | :48:16.
It looks like the ball is down there. | :48:17. | :48:28.
Yes, let us just keep looking at that. Just take it back one frame. | :48:29. | :48:38.
We can see the ball. It is on the ground. Confirmed the referee's | :48:39. | :48:47.
decision of a try. So Jack Hughes has not been involved in any | :48:48. | :48:52.
Warrington's recent heartbreaks. New to the side this year and he gets | :48:53. | :48:58.
his side's first try. Fantastic principles of played by Gidley. He | :48:59. | :49:06.
knew he was going to play on to get at Miller. Not renowned for his | :49:07. | :49:11.
defensive strength. You put a big man like Jack Hughes on Miller, it | :49:12. | :49:19.
will be a one on one situation. Near the line you are looking to put in a | :49:20. | :49:25.
try score. That is the kind of instinctive play that has been | :49:26. | :49:33.
brought to this side. Game smarts, gain intelligence. Kurt Gidley has | :49:34. | :49:39.
brought that back. We are all square. Exploits appease -- six | :49:40. | :49:55.
points apiece. For me there is enough Wakefield defenders there to | :49:56. | :50:00.
make a better attempt than that. The other thing as well, that was a | :50:01. | :50:06.
reward for Warrington's best defensive set against Wakefield's | :50:07. | :50:09.
yardage. They got the ball back in the right part of the field. You are | :50:10. | :50:16.
right about the defensive line. You would be dying to go and help | :50:17. | :50:20.
Miller. What news from the touchline? Just an injury update on | :50:21. | :50:30.
Toby King. There was a smash to the jaw. They look to see if it was | :50:31. | :50:36.
broken or dislocated, but it is fine. He is a big boy, he is still | :50:37. | :50:40.
out there and he will carry on. Robbie, you have something to tell | :50:41. | :50:48.
us? Debbie Fifita was brought off after 30 minutes. -- David Fifita. | :50:49. | :51:04.
Stable play in yardage. You are in trouble against Warrington when | :51:05. | :51:09.
Daryl Clark is busy. Running out a dummy half and that is what he was | :51:10. | :51:15.
brought here to do. Really found his feet this season, Daryl Clark, after | :51:16. | :51:21.
a year of settling in. Sat down now with a little scamper and a run. | :51:22. | :51:36.
Atkins waits at Tommy Haas, Sims. -- at dummy half. Was just getting up | :51:37. | :51:48.
and had his feet pulled. The momentum has shifted towards | :51:49. | :52:00.
Warrington. Kurt Gidley, made a non-field decision. He wants to get | :52:01. | :52:09.
to Wembley. The good carry from Jack Hughes. Scott Moore was clinging on | :52:10. | :52:18.
for life. If you let Jack Hughes plays quickly, it is more than | :52:19. | :52:26.
likely going to end in a try. Just turned 34, Kurt Gidley and rugby | :52:27. | :52:31.
league is full of family ties. He has a family story in the Challenge | :52:32. | :52:37.
Cup. His brother played for Saint Helens in the 2007 and 2008 | :52:38. | :52:42.
Challenge Cup. A team-mate of yours? Yes. We had a couple of beers with | :52:43. | :52:53.
Kurt Gidley. He relishes playing in the game. 90 minutes played and over | :52:54. | :53:06.
it goes. 8-6. Warrington now lead Wakefield. They really have come | :53:07. | :53:11.
back into the game, the Warrington Wolves. The first ten minutes were | :53:12. | :53:22.
Warrington's -- Wakefield's, but the last 20 minutes belonged to | :53:23. | :53:31.
Warrington. They have just got the better side of things in the last | :53:32. | :53:40.
ten minutes. They need to get back at that chasing Wakefield pack here | :53:41. | :53:45.
comes Matty Rosol. -- Matty Rosol. Here comes Currie, one of the bright | :53:46. | :54:17.
young things in rugby. So much expected from him. They chase by | :54:18. | :54:29.
Sandow. Ben Jones-Bishop. I think there is a bit of energy drain. They | :54:30. | :54:38.
are having to go wide in their own red zone. There is a big hole | :54:39. | :54:51.
running through this Wakefield side. When you look at the likes of Reece | :54:52. | :55:02.
Lyne, Miller, Arundel. Finn will kick the ball away, but Ratchford is | :55:03. | :55:07.
well placed. That is the problem when you click on the last tackle. | :55:08. | :55:22.
Very difficult. A skip and a jump by Russell. Evans will lead again. The | :55:23. | :55:39.
outside back is doing the job. Here comes Atkins, twice a Wembley winner | :55:40. | :55:44.
with Warrington. Sandow puts the kick in. It's covered by | :55:45. | :55:57.
jow it -- Jowitt. Looking off-camera, they need to get some | :55:58. | :56:14.
oxygen in the lungs. That it was. A second effort from Russell and lousy | :56:15. | :56:24.
stoppage in play. They need to draw breath and regroup an attempt to get | :56:25. | :56:30.
back into the game. It was the wrong decision from Sandow to kick the | :56:31. | :56:33.
ball earlier, but fantastic pull-back from Jowitt. The real | :56:34. | :56:45.
pressure reliever, wasn't it. There is Miller. Well met by Toby King. | :56:46. | :56:54.
Wakefield struggling to find distance. The ball has come loose. | :56:55. | :57:05.
It is dropped, said the referee makes a decision. He looked straight | :57:06. | :57:16.
across at the touch judge. You can see from the replay, both of them | :57:17. | :57:24.
worked in cohesion and came up with the right decision. We can hear from | :57:25. | :57:41.
George Riley again. Danny Kirmond doesn't look fit and I will be | :57:42. | :57:44.
surprised if he plays more than 15 minutes today. If he was fit, he | :57:45. | :57:50.
would have started because he is such an important facet to that | :57:51. | :57:53.
Wakefield side, who are under pressure at the moment. 8-6 they | :57:54. | :58:00.
lead, but a suggestion of more to come just at the moment. Atkins. | :58:01. | :58:11.
More tackles to go. Here is Clark. Westerman away. Inside ball from | :58:12. | :58:18.
Gidley to Sandow. Well read by Wakefield. Crop goes away and Daryl | :58:19. | :58:33.
Clark and a dummy half. Passed the Wakefield defenders and Warrington | :58:34. | :58:36.
are building something now. They are building things on the lack of | :58:37. | :58:42.
speed. They have gone very direct. They have thrown out the shift | :58:43. | :58:48.
shapes. It certainly is playing off at this moment in time. Warrington | :58:49. | :58:53.
topped the tables on a couple of things. One is Tommy Haas. Obviously | :58:54. | :59:00.
the drop ball which is a big error by Wakefield. Off the back of that | :59:01. | :59:07.
clock runs out of dummy half to score. Once again, the line was not | :59:08. | :59:25.
set. Jowitt was received in -- was going back. Daryl Clark has grown | :59:26. | :59:36.
into himself. In the first year you were not seeing lots of dummy | :59:37. | :59:39.
running from him which ironic because he was brought in to do | :59:40. | :59:47.
that. Also to make breaks and score for his team. So here is Gidley a | :59:48. | :00:00.
game. Picture of concentration. Two successes so far. This will make it | :00:01. | :00:07.
three out of three. Up go the flags in unison to confirm that Warrington | :00:08. | :00:09.
now leads by 14-6. They are full value for it. Clark | :00:10. | :00:23.
taking full advantage. He's picked the big man with space around him, | :00:24. | :00:31.
he has done equally well, got his nose to the defensive line and | :00:32. | :00:36.
through he goes. Warning signs are here, aren't they? Warning signs are | :00:37. | :00:41.
here for Wakefield. They need something here. Here is Hill. They | :00:42. | :00:48.
need a Warrington error or something. It can be anything. In a | :00:49. | :00:53.
game like this you are looking for one of your players to do something | :00:54. | :00:57.
special. You need the ball, possession, territory and all these | :00:58. | :01:00.
words that define a good performance. Apart from that start | :01:01. | :01:08.
they really haven't. 65-35 possession, 71-29 territory, | :01:09. | :01:14.
powerful stats. Couple that with dummy half runs, 12 from Warrington. | :01:15. | :01:19.
There's another from Clark, threatening to get Ratchford on his | :01:20. | :01:24.
way. Last play in the set. Gidley puts it behind the line, job to do | :01:25. | :01:31.
for Hall. Dropped behind the sticks, Warrington are turning the screw | :01:32. | :01:37.
tighter and tighter. The Wakefield fans are up on their feet behind the | :01:38. | :01:41.
sticks, they know their side need a semifinal lift. They've all got up | :01:42. | :01:47.
there, man, woman and child. To shout out the name of their heroes. | :01:48. | :01:52.
Because they know this is another massive set of six coming up here. | :01:53. | :01:57.
It's a great atmosphere, it really is. Packed stadium, full of noise, | :01:58. | :02:04.
colour, vibrancy. Some great stuff out on the field. Especially from | :02:05. | :02:05.
the Warrington Wolves. Here is Curry. Atkins stepping | :02:06. | :02:28.
inside. Clark. Wants to get on with it, here. Gidley along to Hill | :02:29. | :02:35.
again. Sandow puts it back, Hughes over the top, Evans walks in him at | :02:36. | :02:41.
right corner. Warrington have their third successive tri- without | :02:42. | :02:47.
response. Without meaningful response from Wakefield. They are | :02:48. | :02:52.
taking this cup tie by the scruff of the neck. Left edge, the left edge | :02:53. | :03:00.
in defence. Having a tough defence. Three tries conceded. Warrington | :03:01. | :03:05.
setting up on this side of the field to go back at them all day. Chris | :03:06. | :03:09.
Hill wanted the ball out the back early to Sandow, Jack Hughes. For a | :03:10. | :03:14.
back row to throw that ball is a fantastic piece of skill. Both | :03:15. | :03:20.
Warrington back rowers can do this. But great play, great ball. And a | :03:21. | :03:26.
great finish. Really was an outstanding try. Warrington have | :03:27. | :03:31.
been direct to earn the right to shift wide. That's exactly what they | :03:32. | :03:36.
did. More numbers than Wakefield, executed perfectly to get them on | :03:37. | :03:39.
the outside. Rhys Evans going over in the corner. He's a great story, | :03:40. | :03:45.
him and his brother Ben Evans caught the rugby league tie when they were | :03:46. | :03:48.
playing a curtain raiser to the 2005 cup final in Cardiff with a school | :03:49. | :03:55.
site. Warrington side them up, they moved north, and boy, has that been | :03:56. | :04:01.
a great move? Rhys Evans could be going back to play against Hull in a | :04:02. | :04:09.
Challenge Cup final. By the way, if anyone has picked up any colourful | :04:10. | :04:13.
language pitch side that our very sensitive microphones picked up, we | :04:14. | :04:17.
do apologise. It's not coming from up here. At least we don't think so. | :04:18. | :04:22.
There's the kick that just goes wide. So, 18-6. The interesting | :04:23. | :04:28.
thing, Warrington have gone through Wakefield. Jack Hughes scored a try. | :04:29. | :04:32.
I've gone through again with Daryl Clark. Wakefield as a result have | :04:33. | :04:37.
tightened up, been more aggressive. And then Warrington throw the long | :04:38. | :04:42.
ball, go around them. They are toying with the Wakefield defence of | :04:43. | :04:47.
lying on the left-hand side. They are going to have a tough day, you | :04:48. | :04:53.
can tell. For the last 18 minutes it has been near-perfect semifinal | :04:54. | :04:55.
rugby league from the Warrington Wolves side. What do you do as a | :04:56. | :05:00.
coach here to get your team out of this rut? Your team has got to | :05:01. | :05:04.
defend this set of six, the big one, and actually get the ball in hand | :05:05. | :05:07.
and just come up with a positive end after that. By the way, look at the | :05:08. | :05:13.
tackles. Wakefield have made 63 to Warrington's 35. That's burning | :05:14. | :05:18.
energy, that's all Wakefield are doing. Body language is not great. | :05:19. | :05:24.
Making too many tackles. You put the territory stats in amongst it and it | :05:25. | :05:27.
is not a pretty picture being painted. Here is Currie. Six-pack or | :05:28. | :05:34.
coming up here. Sandow will look for the touchline or at least put it in | :05:35. | :05:38.
the corner and make it difficult. Sandow leading the chase. Anyway he | :05:39. | :05:45.
has made the tackle. Wakefield have to do all this hard labour from | :05:46. | :05:51.
inside their own ten metres again. Sandow once the ball in play. It is | :05:52. | :05:56.
Warrington with all the energy, Wakefield struggling to get back | :05:57. | :05:59.
behind the ball. They need the ball in play, Warrington Wolves. The most | :06:00. | :06:05.
worrisome sign for Wakefield at this point of time is the amount of | :06:06. | :06:09.
yardage Warrington is getting on the field. After the Clark try, 90 | :06:10. | :06:14.
metres. Here is a chance! Suddenly the break is on! But it's going to | :06:15. | :06:19.
be stopped. Walton gets the ball away. This is a tackle Wakefield | :06:20. | :06:26.
needed. Miller is up at dummy half. Oh, no! It is kicked, Ratchford | :06:27. | :06:35.
saves it. That's just naivete from the young player. All they need to | :06:36. | :06:41.
do, just play at the space. All it needed to do was go through the | :06:42. | :06:46.
hands, there were gaps are plenty. Plenty of holes in the Warrington | :06:47. | :06:50.
defensive unstructured. The wrong kick from Jowitt, the young | :06:51. | :06:54.
full-back. What a great piece of play to put Walton through the gap. | :06:55. | :07:00.
The key to unlocking Warrington, some of that instinctive play around | :07:01. | :07:06.
dummy half. Sandow just threatening the kick. And now Evans on the | :07:07. | :07:21.
right-hand side. Awkward bounce. Ben Jones Bishop. Well marshalled. So we | :07:22. | :07:32.
are going to see an interchange made by Wakefield, and that significant | :07:33. | :07:35.
because Danny Kirmond is coming on for the very first time, ten minutes | :07:36. | :07:40.
before the break. Nine minutes, then a breather. Then a bit more, maybe. | :07:41. | :07:51.
Play on. Came off the ankle. So Danny Kirmond's first effort is | :07:52. | :07:55.
clutching to take that forward pass from Scott Moore. And it's just | :07:56. | :08:00.
given possession back to Warrington. I think there is an element of | :08:01. | :08:04.
fatigue in Nantes. He's been out there from minute one. It was a | :08:05. | :08:08.
tired decision, retired pass. The ball kick from Jowitt. That's a | :08:09. | :08:15.
momentum killer. Chris Chester saw it, he felt momentum was with him. | :08:16. | :08:20.
That's disappointing for a coach. Wakefield threw Scott Moore have got | :08:21. | :08:24.
something in the middle of the field to challenge Warrington. The issue | :08:25. | :08:27.
is getting possession, getting the ball in the right parts of the field | :08:28. | :08:30.
to put the Warrington defence of line under pressure. Tony Smith will | :08:31. | :08:35.
be really happy with this last 20 minutes. Definitely. The best way of | :08:36. | :08:40.
defusing Scott Moore would be to keep hammering this middle channel. | :08:41. | :08:44.
Keep Scott Moore defending, working in defence, it will take the edge | :08:45. | :08:49.
off his attacking play. Tire him out. Here's King. He's a cracking | :08:50. | :08:59.
player, is Jack Hughes. He was at Wigan, wasn't he? Westwood. Veteran | :09:00. | :09:10.
of three Challenge Cup finals with Warrington. Long-time Warrington, | :09:11. | :09:16.
started his career at Wakefield. That was a long time ago, wasn't it? | :09:17. | :09:20.
This is good pressure again here from Warrington. Clark, Gidley, | :09:21. | :09:26.
Westerman has a look and puts it back to Ryan Bailey. Big dummy by | :09:27. | :09:36.
Westerman, and the kick pins of shins. Still the six tackle. Hughes | :09:37. | :09:46.
tries the kick. Going to be picked up by Wakefield and they get a | :09:47. | :09:50.
penalty as well, so a chance to clear their lines. They are losing | :09:51. | :09:59.
the energy battle in the middle of the park. Game management, kick the | :10:00. | :10:04.
ball out, slow it right down and dictate the play. At the moment | :10:05. | :10:08.
Warrington are marching them up the field ensuring out too much energy. | :10:09. | :10:15.
George? Fascinating to see Danny Kirmond come on. We said it might | :10:16. | :10:20.
not be more than 15 minutes. It is one of those free interchanges. | :10:21. | :10:24.
Jordan Crowther took a head shot. Ryan Atkins saw it straightaway and | :10:25. | :10:27.
beckoned to the referee to say it was a head injury. He has gone down | :10:28. | :10:36.
the tunnel to be assessed. Here is Finn. Lots coming up in this game | :10:37. | :10:42.
yet but afterwards you can join us on the website, not the red button, | :10:43. | :10:49.
the Rugby league forum. Get in touch in the usual manner. | :10:50. | :11:01.
Wakefield still have a big say in this contest. And another injury. | :11:02. | :11:12.
Delicate kick down the short side. He felt as though he was hit late. | :11:13. | :11:17.
He stayed down. He's trying to suggest to the referee that there | :11:18. | :11:20.
was a lake and a legal contract on him. I don't believe there was. I | :11:21. | :11:24.
think it was pure competition to put him under pressure, Jack Hughes. | :11:25. | :11:31.
Shoulder. Yeah, I mean, when you slow them down they look bad. As a | :11:32. | :11:36.
player on the field you would think there was not much in that. But it | :11:37. | :11:42.
is a shoulder. Without doubt. I think the match officials... As a | :11:43. | :11:51.
player involved in that, you protest innocence, you cannot understand | :11:52. | :11:57.
what the fuss was about. Now it is illegal to do that, use the shoulder | :11:58. | :11:58.
in such a manner. It is a penalty. They have sucked the energy out of | :11:59. | :12:25.
the game, stop start. If they scored just before half-time, after the | :12:26. | :12:31.
battering they have taken from minutes tend to minute 34 they will | :12:32. | :12:36.
be pretty happy with that. Let's see what they come up with in this big | :12:37. | :12:42.
set. Finn involved again and Miller goes for the long pass. Taken its | :12:43. | :12:49.
time to get there. They are waiting. So Wakefield can start again. | :12:50. | :12:54.
Looking for a way through. That's not the way to do it. Fifita lining | :12:55. | :13:01.
himself up but it goes down the short side. Ooh, it's a difficult | :13:02. | :13:11.
one because Warrington are advancing quickly, the referee says play on. | :13:12. | :13:18.
Jones Bishop can't get it in, but did Ratchford deflect that away? No | :13:19. | :13:21.
he didn't. The touch judge was right there. The | :13:22. | :13:33.
great energy in the defensive effort. The winger jammed in, | :13:34. | :13:41.
tidying anything up. Think it was the correct decision. You see the | :13:42. | :13:49.
early tackle metres, there. They are astonishing statistics to look at | :13:50. | :13:53.
those. Just shows you the effectiveness of Warrington running | :13:54. | :13:56.
out. Stefan Ratchford into Demi half. Daryl Clark. All really | :13:57. | :14:05.
effective. It has troubled Wakefield although. Inside Wakefield territory | :14:06. | :14:12.
again. Westerman and now Ryan Bailey, Challenge Cup winner with | :14:13. | :14:18.
Leeds back in 2014. Six times a Grand Final winner with Leeds. And | :14:19. | :14:23.
the kick is efficient. And it means that Wakefield have got all the hard | :14:24. | :14:27.
work to do again here. Scrum head and feet, they will get the ball, | :14:28. | :14:33.
but 90 yards downfield. An indication that Warrington are | :14:34. | :14:38.
really happy with their work. Put the ball into the corner on the | :14:39. | :14:43.
sidelines. They can get a set defensive line to restrict the | :14:44. | :14:48.
Wakefield yardage. I'm certain Warrington will be happy at 18-6 as | :14:49. | :14:53.
well. That's the message Tony Smith is sending on. Great game plan, put | :14:54. | :15:03.
the ball into corners. Structured stuff like this, set starts, is not | :15:04. | :15:07.
where Wakefield will break Warrington Town. Scott Moore. Here | :15:08. | :15:20.
is Finn. Kirmond. Dragging his body. Into this semifinal. And hoping to | :15:21. | :15:25.
drag it as far as he can through this sunny final. Well, that's | :15:26. | :15:32.
untidy. Pats on the back from Warrington because they know they | :15:33. | :15:35.
got the ball back and they know that again they are going to start a set | :15:36. | :15:42.
in a very attacking position. This is the reward for line speed, isn't | :15:43. | :15:50.
it? Engaging the markers to make the markers interested before playing | :15:51. | :15:52.
the first receiver. Westwood played it very well. Fifita wanted the ball | :15:53. | :16:01.
early. He told Scott Moore that after he had passed the ball. He has | :16:02. | :16:05.
had a good game, obviously fatigued now. Fantastic player. Fifita, big, | :16:06. | :16:15.
powerful game. This will test their defensive palace now. That's where | :16:16. | :16:21.
Wakefield have been scrutinised so far. Westerman, and Fifita clatters | :16:22. | :16:33.
him. Cameo battle going on. Gidley is there again, over the line, has | :16:34. | :16:37.
he touched it down? The referee isn't sure. What's he going to give | :16:38. | :16:44.
on the field. He says try on the field. Don't know if Fifita agrees, | :16:45. | :16:51.
but what about the video referee more importantly? Phil Bentham | :16:52. | :17:03.
again. Grounding check again, please. Just make sure when Gidley | :17:04. | :17:13.
gets over the line here that he puts the ball down on the ground. | :17:14. | :17:19.
Initially it looks as if it's still up. Does he get the ball down? He's | :17:20. | :17:26.
still moving, that's OK. He's had every opportunity to get the ball | :17:27. | :17:30.
down and his hand is on the top which provides downward pressure. | :17:31. | :17:41.
Can we go back to that shot, please? Just there. That is Gidley's hand on | :17:42. | :17:50.
the line. Confirm the referee's decision. We saw one last night for | :17:51. | :17:57.
Gareth Ellis that was millimetres short. Think that was just about | :17:58. | :18:07.
millimetres OK. Try has been given. You've got to admire Kurt Gidley's | :18:08. | :18:12.
attacking Powys, here. The way in which he has toyed with the | :18:13. | :18:15.
Wakefield left edge defence. Focused on Jacob Miller. They beat them | :18:16. | :18:19.
every which way they could on that side. They beat them through power, | :18:20. | :18:23.
through hitting, through hitting a strong running line, beat them | :18:24. | :18:26.
through dummy half running, beat them through playing through the | :18:27. | :18:30.
back row early. Finally Gidley spotted an opportunity, dropped his | :18:31. | :18:34.
shoulder, and forced his way over the line. It's a really fantastic | :18:35. | :18:39.
mixed bag of attack. Kurt Gidley is the most experienced player on the | :18:40. | :18:40.
field with the ball. His kicking has been pretty good so | :18:41. | :19:00.
far, just the one miss. And this one to give Warrington a terrific | :19:01. | :19:05.
advantage at half-time. Possibly one foot in a Wembley final already. | :19:06. | :19:11.
24-6. How big is Wakefield's response? And they go back to the | :19:12. | :19:17.
well at half-time and find some inspiration to claw their way back | :19:18. | :19:20.
into this semifinal? Let's hear from the man of the moment, Kurt Gidley, | :19:21. | :19:26.
with George. Do you feel firmly in control at this cup tie? Managed to | :19:27. | :19:30.
get off to a great start with them scoring first. We responded well to | :19:31. | :19:34.
that, and our completion rate is up there. Defensively the first try was | :19:35. | :19:41.
pretty good. All your points came down the right channel, was that | :19:42. | :19:44.
preplanned? No, no, no. Our job is to get our eyes up and count the | :19:45. | :19:49.
numbers. Just doing a great job of yardage. Thank you. Scott Moore is | :19:50. | :19:53.
here as well. Britain start but you've barely had the ball since. | :19:54. | :19:56.
Exactly, we are getting smashed through the middle. The rock is too | :19:57. | :20:03.
quick. Do you feel like the game has gone? No, not at all, we just need | :20:04. | :20:08.
to fix the middle up and tighten up. The game is drifting a bit. I'll let | :20:09. | :20:17.
you get in there, thanks. STUDIO: As George said, Wakefield have barely | :20:18. | :20:20.
had the ball since that opening try. The statistics back it up. 66% for | :20:21. | :20:26.
Warrington, they've dominated the territory as well. Wakefield have | :20:27. | :20:34.
had to make nearly 30 more tackles than side who are leading. Jamie | :20:35. | :20:43.
Peacock, Denis Betts, Brian Noble with me, would you describe that as | :20:44. | :20:47.
ruthless? Definitely. They have stuck to their game plan. They have | :20:48. | :20:52.
gone for the middle, hit them hard, move them around and come back at | :20:53. | :20:55.
them again. They lost the battle from dummy half runs. Just getting | :20:56. | :21:00.
them rolling forward. Punching a big hole in them. Capitalising on field | :21:01. | :21:06.
position. Come up with some fantastic kicking game from Sandow. | :21:07. | :21:12.
Started the game really well. He's put them in the corners and made it | :21:13. | :21:16.
hard for Wakefield to play the game. Whereas last time we had all the | :21:17. | :21:20.
blood and thunder and a real intensity, it's felt very calm and | :21:21. | :21:24.
controlled from one of these two sides. After the first five or ten | :21:25. | :21:28.
minutes? I think it's a physical mismatch. Dennis alluded to it with | :21:29. | :21:32.
the things going wrong for Warrington. Right across the park, | :21:33. | :21:38.
it enables you to play and control the game in that manner you talked | :21:39. | :21:43.
about. So Sandow is very rarely under pressure, Gidley is very | :21:44. | :21:46.
rarely under pressure when he gets the ball. Gives the facility for | :21:47. | :21:52.
Clark and Russell to ply their trade around the middle and pick off the | :21:53. | :21:56.
remnants of big blocks with Fifita in around the middle. Basically they | :21:57. | :22:00.
are dominant and that allows them to be tactically dominant. And yet they | :22:01. | :22:04.
did not get off to a very good start and one of their errors let | :22:05. | :22:08.
Wakefield in. Yeah, I think the first five minutes was all Wakefield | :22:09. | :22:13.
but apart from that they have not been in the game. Early error from | :22:14. | :22:17.
Warrington, Ratchford is adjudged to have spilled the ball. Then we see a | :22:18. | :22:22.
wonderful play from Wakefield, Scott Moore, great dummy half play, gets | :22:23. | :22:26.
out and draws in Chris Hill. And that cascades so that every | :22:27. | :22:31.
Warrington player has to come in, and leaves Jacob Miller, who has to | :22:32. | :22:35.
execute a wonderful piece of skill at the end to score a try. Fantastic | :22:36. | :22:40.
try from Warrington, all created by the dummy half run from Scott Moore. | :22:41. | :22:47.
Wonderful pass at the end. Inexperience on the right engine, | :22:48. | :22:52.
Tony King is a young player. It's been stripped, he's got to get off | :22:53. | :22:56.
the line and shut it down quicker. That it was a fantastic pass. Scott | :22:57. | :23:03.
Moore invites people to buy it. Couple of good passes. Tony King | :23:04. | :23:07.
could be another step up and shut that down. From a fan's perspective | :23:08. | :23:13.
at that stage, you think, oh, no, here we go. Doesn't matter what team | :23:14. | :23:19.
you support, as a fan, you think, oh no, here we go again. Are you not a | :23:20. | :23:26.
Wakefield supporter? Don't try and dogged me in on who I support. When | :23:27. | :23:32.
you are in the game and a professional you don't have that | :23:33. | :23:36.
thought, do you? They scored early, got a great start. But from thereon | :23:37. | :23:41.
in they could not that effort. You have to be smart when you are | :23:42. | :23:45.
outgunned. And they are outgunned. Not to discredit Wakefield, it is a | :23:46. | :23:50.
tactical fact today. They need to find ways to get forward. Trying to | :23:51. | :23:55.
get out of their own half they were beaten up, basically. Couldn't get | :23:56. | :24:01.
into it. Warrington became more and more confident in what they were | :24:02. | :24:05.
doing and it was only a matter of time, 15 or 20 minutes in, when you | :24:06. | :24:10.
thought Warrington were in it. There is a way back for Wakefield, so the | :24:11. | :24:14.
hope is absolutely there but they do need to get to the other part of the | :24:15. | :24:19.
field. With Scott Moore, Miller and Finn, they are liable to create | :24:20. | :24:23.
opportunities. The challenge is finding a way, dummy half running, | :24:24. | :24:27.
being smart, to get to the other end of the field. Let's go through the | :24:28. | :24:30.
Warrington try starting with the Jack Hughes one. We see a poor kick | :24:31. | :24:36.
first from Wakefield. In the semifinals you have to kick well. | :24:37. | :24:42.
Rate pressure from Ryan Atkins, giving Warrington field position. | :24:43. | :24:44.
And off the back of that you'll see Kurt Gidley, he's smart. He talks to | :24:45. | :24:50.
Jack Hughes. Puts the big man on the smaller man, Miller. You would like | :24:51. | :24:55.
to see him stop the ball. There are three Wakefield players, there. They | :24:56. | :24:58.
need to stop the ball, it is a semifinal. Need a bit more | :24:59. | :25:04.
desperation and they will be disappointed. He's got four bodies. | :25:05. | :25:10.
Jamie spoke last night about getting coloured jerseys in the frame to | :25:11. | :25:13.
make an effort. We saw Hull with four black jersey that every | :25:14. | :25:17.
breakdown. Miller half stops Hughes. He's a big boy who take some | :25:18. | :25:20.
stopping and he deserves help from those around him. You will be | :25:21. | :25:27.
disappointed. That many white shirts around Hughes, it is a disappointing | :25:28. | :25:31.
try to concede. To be fair, Miller did a decent enough job. He's a big | :25:32. | :25:40.
man. He slowed him down. But he has got to have people coming in and | :25:41. | :25:45.
helping him out. We talked about Gidley and Sandow moving Warrington | :25:46. | :25:48.
on the field but Clark has really come into this game. I think Daryl | :25:49. | :25:52.
Clark has been exceptional. He owes a favour to all his foreword by how | :25:53. | :25:58.
hard they have been running. The only way you get markers down is by | :25:59. | :26:03.
your forwards running hard. You can see that because they've made twice | :26:04. | :26:07.
as many metres as Wakefield, over 700. He absolutely loves it. Best | :26:08. | :26:14.
dummy half in the com petition. Both their wingers, their centres, their | :26:15. | :26:18.
full-back and Clark play on the back of the fact they are big men. Hill, | :26:19. | :26:26.
Sims, Westwood. Clark is one of the best exponents of that space. They | :26:27. | :26:30.
put them under pressure. Has a look, he's a smart player. Understands | :26:31. | :26:35.
it's a big man isolated in space, nips through and gets around him, | :26:36. | :26:40.
uses his lack of agility. Uses his pace. He panics, doesn't he? Clark | :26:41. | :26:47.
has seen so much space. Great picture from our technical people | :26:48. | :26:51.
about what he has seen. He has seen the first hole I thought, I better | :26:52. | :26:56.
fill that. Clark has run round and is coming in this way, an easier | :26:57. | :27:00.
task for him. The credit in the whole piece has to go to the | :27:01. | :27:03.
tactics. Scruton has been involved in four of the six tackles leading | :27:04. | :27:09.
up to that point. So has Fifita and Moore. When you've made a couple of | :27:10. | :27:14.
tackles, those spaces are out of reach, they seem like six or seven | :27:15. | :27:19.
metres, has a big man. Going through the last two Warrington tries which | :27:20. | :27:22.
might have put them out of reach. I'll ask you whether they are out of | :27:23. | :27:26.
reach later but as far as the tries are concerned. It is all down with | :27:27. | :27:30.
the forwards going to the line. And a wonderful ball. Another wonderful | :27:31. | :27:36.
ball. This is from a back row. He's had a great chain, Jack Hughes. | :27:37. | :27:42.
Provides the try again. Gidley taking the line on, too strong for | :27:43. | :27:46.
the Wakefield defenders. On the back of building that pressure. Making | :27:47. | :27:51.
more and more tackles. Gidley said to George at half-time that they | :27:52. | :27:55.
haven't targeted pre-match about targeting the left-hand side. Does | :27:56. | :28:01.
it look like they have? That's just the way the game has gone. I think | :28:02. | :28:07.
they've been after Scruton, definitely been after Fifita. They | :28:08. | :28:12.
are picking him out. He's pointing them up saying, come on. But I think | :28:13. | :28:18.
it's a bit of bravado from him. They've got a quick play the ball | :28:19. | :28:21.
enabling them to get on the front foot. When it goes to Gidley he's | :28:22. | :28:25.
got some space, he can throw the party wants. The back row can get | :28:26. | :28:29.
time on the ball and pick the line he once. For the moment, thank you | :28:30. | :28:34.
very much. It's looking at the moment like a Hull Warrington | :28:35. | :28:39.
Challenge Cup final, it will be at the end of August. Throughout this | :28:40. | :28:42.
year the songs of praise team have been working with the clubs who play | :28:43. | :28:48.
here, rugby league come up and down the country, to form a choir of fans | :28:49. | :28:53.
who are going to sing abide with me, that legendary anthem, before the | :28:54. | :28:58.
Challenge Cup final. Everybody has been nominated and chosen. The full | :28:59. | :29:05.
list is on the website. Phyllis Norman was nominated by York city. | :29:06. | :29:11.
It's a him about giving strength through trials in your life, through | :29:12. | :29:16.
troubles in your life, and just to keep you going. And if you watch the | :29:17. | :29:22.
words, you listen to them, the emotion takes over, to be honest. | :29:23. | :29:28.
It's not just another game, its final. It's about performing well, | :29:29. | :29:33.
soaking up everything, the fans, the atmosphere, and the fact you are at | :29:34. | :29:37.
Wembley Stadium, which is iconic stadium in the history of sport. So, | :29:38. | :29:43.
no pressure! And I will be nervous and I will do my best to try to | :29:44. | :29:46.
contain that. But just believe in what I'm doing. | :29:47. | :29:55.
So Phyllis will be part of the choir who will sing abide with me before | :29:56. | :30:05.
our cup final coverage on the 27th of August. | :30:06. | :30:16.
Wear with a couple of legends. Lee, you have been in the dressing room | :30:17. | :30:26.
and saw your players come out. What is the minutes? Hopefully were not | :30:27. | :30:34.
going to change too much. Wakefield will come back at us and we need to | :30:35. | :30:42.
weather the storm and kick on. A bit more painful as a Wakefield boy to | :30:43. | :30:47.
watch that? Warrington has been too fast and too strong for us. When we | :30:48. | :30:52.
are nearly back in the game, we break through, we have had two men | :30:53. | :31:00.
overlap and then they'd dummy. You need to take your chances to get | :31:01. | :31:08.
points on the board. Great seeing you here. We'd better let you get | :31:09. | :31:13.
back to work. Thank you very much. What do | :31:14. | :31:19.
Wakefield do then? They have to run out and kick well and be ruthless. | :31:20. | :31:24.
Warrington have been outstanding. It is as good as I have seen them play. | :31:25. | :31:32.
They can turn it around. There is no messing about. Warrington are | :31:33. | :31:36.
already out there are still a couple of minutes to go for half-time. Get | :31:37. | :31:42.
them out, get them warmed up and get them ready to go. Wakefield need to | :31:43. | :31:49.
stand up to the plate. I will agree with Jamie that when they are in the | :31:50. | :31:54.
right parts of the field, they are a clever team and they score points. | :31:55. | :32:00.
We have seen that this year. It is about the attacking prowess. What | :32:01. | :32:04.
they are struggling with is not bending the backs enough against a | :32:05. | :32:12.
physical and strong Warrington side. When you talked about Sandow's kick | :32:13. | :32:16.
in the first half, if he does it again in the second half, there | :32:17. | :32:21.
won't be able to get out. They are out early now. They know their jobs. | :32:22. | :32:29.
It is a job well done, let's do it again. I think we will see the same | :32:30. | :32:35.
for Warrington again. They will have to throw caution to the wind. They | :32:36. | :32:47.
are going to have to try and play and it will be uncomfortable and | :32:48. | :32:51.
will open the way for Warrington to score more points. We are moments | :32:52. | :32:56.
away from the second half after a first 40 where Warrington looked in | :32:57. | :33:02.
control. This game has a lot to live up to after last night's semifinal. | :33:03. | :33:09.
The opening try and Wakefield have the dream start! Jack Hughes gets | :33:10. | :33:19.
his side's first try. Clark sashaying a little too easily. | :33:20. | :33:24.
Warrington taking this cup tie by the scruff of the neck. | :33:25. | :33:32.
Wakefield are back out. They have it all to do in the second half if they | :33:33. | :33:37.
are going to meet Hull in the Challenge Cup final at the end of | :33:38. | :33:43.
August. Back to John Wilkie and John Kier and Dave Woods. | :33:44. | :33:52.
John, you will be head of rugby at Wakefield Trinity next year. What | :33:53. | :33:59.
will this inject to future hopes? They have to get up there and get | :34:00. | :34:05.
possession and make with use of the position. They had to toughen up in | :34:06. | :34:09.
the middle channel and attempt very good contact and the collision to | :34:10. | :34:17.
slow this Warrington onslaught down. The writing is on the wall though, | :34:18. | :34:21.
isn't it, from a realistic point of view? Yes. As a cynical nor the man, | :34:22. | :34:29.
yes. I can't see a way back for Wakefield, but stranger things have | :34:30. | :34:32.
happened. They need to do some of the things that Jamie Peacock | :34:33. | :34:37.
alluded to. In sport, there is nothing to lose, which is a | :34:38. | :34:41.
dangerous thing, but Warrington have been exceptional in that first half | :34:42. | :34:45.
and I'm sure there will be energised coming into the start of the second | :34:46. | :34:49.
half. We can look negatively at Wakefield, but you have to look | :34:50. | :34:54.
positively at Warrington's division to this semifinal. They have been | :34:55. | :35:00.
absolutely outstanding. Not for nothing are Warrington in line for a | :35:01. | :35:06.
potential trouble, the same with Hull. They are fantastic. They are. | :35:07. | :35:09.
They have scored more than anyone else. They are the huge attacking | :35:10. | :35:15.
threat when they have the ball. Off the back of that, they are not too | :35:16. | :35:22.
shabby defensively. Twisted under contact and has picked up an injury | :35:23. | :35:27.
there. Warrington is the big deal -- real deal. That is the last thing | :35:28. | :35:34.
that Warrington needed. Here comes Currie down the middle. So five | :35:35. | :35:41.
tackles to have a real go at this Wakefield line right at the start of | :35:42. | :35:45.
the second half. Use bouncing forward again, proving a real | :35:46. | :35:49.
handful again. Clark moves into dummy half. Gidley. Westwood on his | :35:50. | :35:58.
inside and now Westerman plays in and Currie wider still. The referee | :35:59. | :36:10.
wants a second look. No try on the field. They did look to be an | :36:11. | :36:16.
element of the ball coming through. Checking now with Phil Bentham the | :36:17. | :36:25.
video referee. Check again please. Warrington players in possession. | :36:26. | :36:31.
Tackle comes in. Reaches out to try and score and he drops the ball. | :36:32. | :36:35.
Confirm the decision of the referee which is no try. A 20 metre restart. | :36:36. | :36:45.
Drop ball, no try. That is some relief for Wakefield because if they | :36:46. | :36:48.
had considered that, it would have been game over. It's desperation, in | :36:49. | :36:54.
all honesty. They have numbers and they prevented the try. Sometimes | :36:55. | :37:03.
you have to find a way to dislodge the ball and they managed to do | :37:04. | :37:13.
that. We overcomplicate things. Just getting involved in helping your | :37:14. | :37:21.
team-mates is the most important thing. Tony Smith says they are | :37:22. | :37:34.
bound to come back. For Wakefield, Chris Chester says we have to | :37:35. | :37:40.
believe in ourselves. There is time, but we need our fair share of | :37:41. | :37:43.
possession. It deserted us after that great start. He said he feels | :37:44. | :37:51.
the lads can make a great comeback. Another one. Wakefield fans are | :37:52. | :37:58.
celebrating in hope rather than expectation. A poor kick. He had | :37:59. | :38:02.
time and opportunity to put that bought two or three metres out from | :38:03. | :38:11.
the Warrington line. Gives Matty Russell and the Warrington players a | :38:12. | :38:21.
chance. A poor kick from Finn. Here comes Evans. Churchillian. And he | :38:22. | :38:33.
involved in the planning for Gallipoli as well? It doesn't always | :38:34. | :38:42.
go right, does it? Dummy half. Runs into his opposite number Moore. So | :38:43. | :38:52.
hard to stop. Westerman and now Bailey. Reinventing his career, Ryan | :38:53. | :38:58.
Bailey, after a couple of years out in the wilderness. He goes left and | :38:59. | :39:03.
Currie is running hard. Clark has a good look at what is ahead of him | :39:04. | :39:11.
and decides to take it on himself. 35 away. Sandow launching it hard | :39:12. | :39:23.
and Ben Jones-Bishop. Complete concentration. A simple catch. | :39:24. | :39:29.
Again, as a turnover, if he have the ball ten metres from your own line | :39:30. | :39:33.
and the first tackle is three or four metres from the line, you would | :39:34. | :39:39.
be pretty happy with that. They make up metres easily, they have big | :39:40. | :39:42.
powerful guy to play with a bit of dissension. Once they run, they run | :39:43. | :39:53.
and break through the middle. Warrington are punishing Wakefield | :39:54. | :39:56.
to look flat and two are devoid of shame. They will me something | :39:57. | :40:07.
special to unlock this. Run from dummy half to the six tackle. It is | :40:08. | :40:14.
when you are trying hard as an individual but unfortunately this is | :40:15. | :40:18.
a team game and the effort has to be a combined effort. King shaking | :40:19. | :40:31.
himself through. Great ball carrier, Matty Russell. Quick on his feet, | :40:32. | :40:37.
strong in the hips. He's one of the that gets this team moving forward | :40:38. | :40:50.
and he's really in form for this Clay his side. There comes | :40:51. | :41:00.
Westerman. Sandow goes left and Atkins steps back in. Sandow, over | :41:01. | :41:18.
he goes! There he goes. Sandow gets a try and score. Warrington are | :41:19. | :41:30.
easing the way now. It is not the right side attack, it is the left | :41:31. | :41:36.
side attack. There is also shift to play and off-loaded from Atkins. A | :41:37. | :41:46.
bit of willow the wisp work from Sandow. Lovely shift, very efficient | :41:47. | :41:55.
in all that they do. Send in the tackle, one-handed off-load and then | :41:56. | :41:59.
magical footwork to cross down the left-hand side. Tremendous try. A | :42:00. | :42:03.
great piece of play. Uses his strength. Great off-load here. | :42:04. | :42:12.
Sandow does all the lying you can do with your body. Eyes, legs, feet, | :42:13. | :42:18.
everything was pointing one way, but the ball went back the other. John | :42:19. | :42:30.
Kay has done some lying with his body as well, but not necessarily on | :42:31. | :42:35.
a rugby field. When Chris Sandow is in the field, the opposition has | :42:36. | :42:46.
more chance of catching roadrunner than they have of catching him. | :42:47. | :42:51.
Looking to take Warrington to 30 points. A bit wide. Warrington are | :42:52. | :42:58.
leading and firmly in the driving seat. Wakefield have to do something | :42:59. | :43:04.
remarkable to stop them. It is a test the Wakefield. Ryan Atkins is a | :43:05. | :43:12.
strong, strong athlete. That is a marvellous piece of skill there to | :43:13. | :43:17.
off-load. A great try. Sandow is one of those players renowned for his | :43:18. | :43:25.
flair. He has had a really solid game. Kicked the ball into touch | :43:26. | :43:28.
when he needs to and he's come up with a try. Solid performances from | :43:29. | :43:34.
both the Warrington halfbacks. They have been tremendous. Wakefield need | :43:35. | :43:46.
to start putting in a good 20, 30 minutes of rugby really in. By the | :43:47. | :43:54.
way, Brad Dwyer is on. Atkins with a great ball away. There comes | :43:55. | :43:59.
Russell. Ratchford is going to score. Warrington are running away | :44:00. | :44:09.
with it! In honour of the great commentator 50 years ago, they think | :44:10. | :44:16.
it's all over, it is now. Warrington 32-6 and there is still a six to | :44:17. | :44:23.
come. The thing with this Warrington team is they sense opportunities. | :44:24. | :44:27.
They have that many dangerous runners of the ball, that as a team, | :44:28. | :44:31.
they can support breaks like this. There is no one better at that than | :44:32. | :44:37.
Ratchford. Came through with some shapes in the middle of the field. | :44:38. | :44:43.
He runs from dummy half, one-handed off-load. Ratchford started it and | :44:44. | :44:51.
finishes it in the corner. Once again, John, there is a man down by | :44:52. | :44:56.
the side of the ruck. The line is not set and they are taking place | :44:57. | :45:12.
and -- space. They need players who can create speed and take advantage | :45:13. | :45:17.
of it. Warrington have both sides covered. They have players who get | :45:18. | :45:21.
them going on the front foot. On the back you have Ratchford, Sandow, | :45:22. | :45:28.
Daryl Clark, instinctive players. It is a dangerous combination. Giggly | :45:29. | :45:41.
looking to add a few more thrills to the thrills so far. -- Gidley. It's | :45:42. | :45:59.
over. 34-6. These guys are already starting to sing Wembley, Wembley. I | :46:00. | :46:02.
think they know where they are going. One of the most ill-advised | :46:03. | :46:07.
attempt at singing I think we have herbs! What Wakefield now because | :46:08. | :46:16.
there is a danger of this, it has been an excellent season for them, | :46:17. | :46:20.
real excitement building up to this semifinal, but there is a real | :46:21. | :46:24.
danger they are walking out with red faces as they are not careful? It | :46:25. | :46:34.
is, obviously. They have to build for the upcoming super eights. They | :46:35. | :46:37.
need some confidence building in the last quarter of the game. The get | :46:38. | :46:42.
the scoreboard, look at the process of rugby league. In the absence of | :46:43. | :46:47.
this having the intensity of lost my's semifinal, I think you can just | :46:48. | :46:52.
sit back and relax and enjoy the way that Warrington are playing rugby | :46:53. | :46:59.
league. If there is a fightback, we will come to it later. That is only | :47:00. | :47:06.
one way to stop him sometimes and that was done illegally. Sandow has | :47:07. | :47:15.
really tested the Wakefield defence. It looked dangerous. It looked | :47:16. | :47:23.
dangerous of the Wakefield defence. When an attacking player is that | :47:24. | :47:30.
good on his feet and comes down so hard, players like Fifita cannot | :47:31. | :47:37.
deal with that agility. I am impressed with Sandow's reaction to | :47:38. | :47:42.
this. He has not milked it. Straight back on his feet. He has signalled | :47:43. | :47:46.
that he is OK which is good on the guy. The game is going well, he is | :47:47. | :47:51.
playing well and he wants to get on with things. I think he was | :47:52. | :47:57.
sin-binned in his first game, wasn't he, David Fifita? Here we go, ten | :47:58. | :48:04.
minutes. Just the yellow card. It might have been worse. We've got it | :48:05. | :48:16.
sorted. We don't need you coming in. When you come in everyone else comes | :48:17. | :48:26.
in. High tackle. Ten minutes on the sidelines with David Fifita. I think | :48:27. | :48:34.
it is becoming a losing cause now for Chris Chester. And he is up and | :48:35. | :48:39.
running again. Still half an hour to go. Bailey is | :48:40. | :49:00.
furious. Danny Westwood chewing up the yards down the middle. A bit of | :49:01. | :49:10.
aggression invigorates the defence. Hughes again trying to shake them | :49:11. | :49:14.
off. Wakefield are hanging on for pride at the moment. Dwyer. Gidley. | :49:15. | :49:29.
Into the heart of it. Wakefield's defence is decent at the moment, but | :49:30. | :49:32.
Warrington keep asking these questions. Attack back on the 20th. | :49:33. | :49:46.
There is George on the sideline. David Fifita is absolutely fuming. | :49:47. | :49:54.
Anyone who would listen, the water dies, the physio. He has the look of | :49:55. | :50:00.
a man who has just had his wallet nicked. A big hit by Atkins. He | :50:01. | :50:05.
follows it up with another stern effort. A bit of intensity in the | :50:06. | :50:13.
last two sets of defence, I'll tell you. Into the right-hand side, | :50:14. | :50:23.
trying to get things going. Miller wants to take it quickly, the | :50:24. | :50:31.
penalty, but the referee Webb allow it. Great play by Wakefield. It felt | :50:32. | :50:42.
like that was the way for them to get into the game. A high tackle | :50:43. | :50:51.
from Westerman on Yates. Difficult to execute against a side like | :50:52. | :51:01.
Warrington. Warrington are backing onto their own line to defend as | :51:02. | :51:09.
Yeats brings it forward again. Moore Besler line, but he's going to be | :51:10. | :51:13.
held up. So many Warrington bodies there. -- Moore goes for the line. | :51:14. | :51:42.
Here is thin. -- Liam Finn. Scooping it out on the sixth tackle. | :51:43. | :51:49.
Intercepted. Matty Russell is away. They are all chasing him. Russell | :51:50. | :51:54.
changing direction. He has put there as well. He is reeled in by Ben | :51:55. | :52:01.
Jones-Bishop. Did a terrific job, but it is not finished yet because | :52:02. | :52:06.
Currie is on the back of Sandow's 's. In the blink of an eye, | :52:07. | :52:13.
Warrington have covered 90 metres and scored yet another. Wow, they | :52:14. | :52:19.
are enjoying it, those in Primrose and blue. The sun is shining on them | :52:20. | :52:26.
at the moment. How many ways can you find of scoring a try? They have | :52:27. | :52:41.
found another one. Russell is up there taking space, picks a pocket | :52:42. | :52:48.
there and then Ben Jones-Bishop who is just working, working, working. | :52:49. | :52:53.
Chases him down. Too many Warrington players. That is a big effort from | :52:54. | :53:02.
the second row. Ends on the receiving end. That is why he has | :53:03. | :53:14.
defied career -- 55 career tries. Recognises he is behind Sandow, | :53:15. | :53:24.
takes the opportunity. There are a lot of things going for Ben Currie. | :53:25. | :53:30.
He's not a promising youngster any more, he is delivering. A great try. | :53:31. | :53:41.
A distinctive and instinctive bit of wing play. Chris Chester's Wakefield | :53:42. | :53:53.
will not do the same this year. Gidley puts it over. 40-6. We have | :53:54. | :53:59.
seen some semifinal blow outs down the years. It is a long way to go | :54:00. | :54:06.
before it matches any of those. Wigan against London and Wigan | :54:07. | :54:11.
against Bradford was a famous one in the 1990s. I don't think it is going | :54:12. | :54:22.
to go to those proportions. A solid exuberant performance. There have | :54:23. | :54:27.
been some good tries from Warrington. Probably one of the few | :54:28. | :54:36.
mistakes they have made there. If it comes from the kick-off, it is head | :54:37. | :54:41.
and see to four Wakefield. Trying to help the guys on the front line, but | :54:42. | :54:47.
exposed his post and it was picked up by Wakefield. | :54:48. | :54:58.
As players, what can they do to stop it? They are looking for someone to | :54:59. | :55:06.
inspire change. You can't see where it is going to come from right now. | :55:07. | :55:10.
The number of fans who were at Doncaster last night and the | :55:11. | :55:26.
Warrington fans here who aren't clapping and -- who are clapping and | :55:27. | :55:30.
singing, it's going to be a big crowd at Wembley. It will be the | :55:31. | :55:34.
first Wembley meeting between Warrington and Hull. We have to get | :55:35. | :55:46.
composure. The penalty because you are not listening to what I am | :55:47. | :55:50.
saying. Get out of it. Come on. Same applies to you. I think Chris is a | :55:51. | :56:02.
part-time plumber. Liam Finn gave up a job as an electrician to become a | :56:03. | :56:10.
professional. They would be handy to have around the house if they got | :56:11. | :56:21.
on. Ratchet comes up with it again. Warrington starts 15 yards out, but | :56:22. | :56:24.
who knows where it will finish. Look at that. 70% in the first, 71% in | :56:25. | :56:37.
the second. They do paint the picture of what is happening in the | :56:38. | :56:42.
game. You cannot get away from it. Speed of game, territory and | :56:43. | :56:50.
possession. Warrington are renowned to this and it has killed this | :56:51. | :56:54.
Wakefield side. They started on their own line, but might finishing | :56:55. | :56:58.
glory on the other line. They are going for glory. Toby King will roll | :56:59. | :57:06.
into score yet another Warrington try. Wow! How can stop them? How can | :57:07. | :57:20.
you stop them when they are in this move? I think the clear answer today | :57:21. | :57:23.
is Wakefield are not going to stop them. If you never see another Rugby | :57:24. | :57:32.
League Tri-Nations! We've seen some unique ones today. -- rugby league | :57:33. | :57:52.
try. Dwyer with a lovely kick. Arundel will be disappointed, | :57:53. | :57:55.
allowing Warrington to cross for the four points. Wakefield are done | :57:56. | :58:06.
here. I'm talking in terms of the attitude, willingness to compete. | :58:07. | :58:12.
That is a broken group of players. When Warrington have wanted to be | :58:13. | :58:15.
intense and stepped up to a different level, that Wakefield | :58:16. | :58:20.
group of players have not been able to compete at that high intensity we | :58:21. | :58:26.
saw yesterday. Mentally and physically, they look a broken | :58:27. | :58:31.
group. It will be a task to rebuild them for next week's game in the | :58:32. | :58:38.
super eights. And they got next week? Can you remember? I think it | :58:39. | :58:55.
is Wigan. It will be the two beaten semifinalists at the start of the | :58:56. | :59:04.
super eight next week. When breaking new ground. Gidley has gone off. | :59:05. | :59:15.
They will wrap him in hot war, bring him into the dressing shed and you | :59:16. | :59:19.
will never see him again. They don't want to risk any injury. 22 minutes | :59:20. | :59:26.
to go. It's a nice situation to be in when you take your key play maker | :59:27. | :59:40.
of the field to rest him up. Clay 70-0, Wigan against London. Brian | :59:41. | :59:50.
Noble was involved somehow in that game. There is Ratchford. | :59:51. | :00:00.
There is a man left on the ground virtually every play the ball and | :00:01. | :00:14.
they are already a man down, Wakefield, so it is becoming | :00:15. | :00:19.
impossible to defend. Ratchford's kick into the in-goal area, just | :00:20. | :00:27.
played out. It means that it has gone dead. 20 minutes still to go | :00:28. | :00:35.
here, but the Rugby league for coming up after we finish our | :00:36. | :00:41.
coverage live on BBC One. You can get in touch on the website. They | :00:42. | :00:48.
remind the forum is on the website. On the 27th of August, all the | :00:49. | :00:54.
razzle-dazzle. The abide with me beforehand with supporters from all | :00:55. | :00:58.
that front clubs taking part. And then, we can say with some | :00:59. | :01:01.
assurance, Hull against Warrington, the main event. Miller's pass sums | :01:02. | :01:09.
up Wakefield's afternoon. Full of good intent but not well executed. | :01:10. | :01:17.
Frustrated. He's had a great year, come on and developed as a young | :01:18. | :01:22.
half-backs, mature. 20 minutes to go in the game, you cannot blame him | :01:23. | :01:27.
for trying. Tries to draw the long ones to Craig Hall, it was never on. | :01:28. | :01:33.
The touch judge nearly caught it. You can understand the frustration | :01:34. | :01:35.
from the Wakefield team now. The game has gone. You are talking about | :01:36. | :01:43.
Wembley, abide with me, all those emotions. There is no better place | :01:44. | :01:50.
for the players who get to do it. It's just an amazing thing to be | :01:51. | :01:56.
part of the history of this game. It certainly is, and looking at these | :01:57. | :02:00.
two teams, it will be interesting to see how Wakefield respond. Losing | :02:01. | :02:05.
the semifinal is heartbreaking. Losing in this manner could really | :02:06. | :02:11.
take it out of you mentally. They have not been in great form, | :02:12. | :02:16.
Wakefield. We came into this game hopeful they would perform but the | :02:17. | :02:19.
reality is they have lost three out of four. Credit to Warrington for | :02:20. | :02:29.
how they have dismantled this team. Sims, Ratchford. Just enjoying | :02:30. | :02:37.
themselves now, looking for individual and further team glory, | :02:38. | :02:43.
here. In the 18 minutes that still remain. Hughes picks up. As a player | :02:44. | :02:56.
you very rarely get to play in front of a crowd like this, on a stage | :02:57. | :02:59.
like this, for 80 minutes, knowing full well you have got the job done. | :03:00. | :03:10.
A knock-on. It is a privileged position, to be relaxed with 20 | :03:11. | :03:17.
minutes to go. Jamie Peacock and myself had a chat before the game | :03:18. | :03:20.
and were saying, that feeling when you know it's done is bliss. One of | :03:21. | :03:28.
the teams today has certainly got that. Did you have that feeling in | :03:29. | :03:33.
98, John, Sheffield, towards the end? There was a spell when you | :03:34. | :03:39.
realised? In the final, yes. Not in the semifinals. Salford wasn't it, | :03:40. | :03:45.
at Headingley? It was, eight points down with about eight minutes left. | :03:46. | :03:52.
Not that I remember! You live through it in your nightmares. Here | :03:53. | :04:02.
comes Ashton Sims. Brad Dwyer dummy half-back again to Westerman. Chris | :04:03. | :04:07.
Hill trying to push his way over but he can't. Half a century looms for | :04:08. | :04:16.
Warrington. And Benny westward! As he has done so many times in his 383 | :04:17. | :04:24.
Warrington appearances, finds a way to get away to score a try! His | :04:25. | :04:34.
124th Warrington try. It's the icing on the cake of the semifinal. And | :04:35. | :04:42.
Warrington are up to a half-century. Soft try to concede, there. | :04:43. | :04:45.
Westwood, big, strong ball-carrier, he's been doing this kind of | :04:46. | :04:49.
playfully years. Too good for Scott Moore and his team-mates. Dwyer came | :04:50. | :04:56.
in at dummy half, strong line. Jowitt tried his best, Yates tried | :04:57. | :05:01.
to join in. To bring up the 50 points, probably no softer way to do | :05:02. | :05:06.
it. Jowitt tried to stop him, Yates couldn't do much about it. Ben | :05:07. | :05:11.
Westwood gets the ball down with his arm at. There are question marks on | :05:12. | :05:19.
the grounding, it is suspect. But he has two thumbs up and waving because | :05:20. | :05:24.
he knows the try has been given. Ironic as well that then brought 50 | :05:25. | :05:32.
up against a team where his career started all those years ago. 1999I | :05:33. | :05:36.
think he made his debut for Wakefield. He's been out Warrington | :05:37. | :05:43.
for a lifetime, hasn't he, it seems. Ratchford. Taking over the kicking | :05:44. | :05:53.
in the absence of Gidley. And it's 52-6. Warrington are now leading | :05:54. | :06:06.
this cup tie 52-6. Slightly kitsch of Wakefield fans when that try was | :06:07. | :06:14.
scored, one or two going away. To put things in perspective, you have | :06:15. | :06:18.
to run the 12 months ago, and they are in a much better position than | :06:19. | :06:27.
they were then. This has been an immensely disappointing afternoon | :06:28. | :06:30.
for them but they have to learn from it and move on, and that applies to | :06:31. | :06:34.
Max Jowitt. A very young man with great potential. He's got to learn | :06:35. | :06:39.
from this and make sure he doesn't experience this type of feeling | :06:40. | :06:46.
again. You are taking it all in at that age, understanding what worked | :06:47. | :06:51.
and what didn't. Wakefield fans have been fantastic, turning up in | :06:52. | :06:54.
numbers and supporting this Wakefield side who have not | :06:55. | :07:00.
realistically been in the game. Just been pointed out to mean nine tries, | :07:01. | :07:05.
nine different scorers here today. There is another very efficient kit | :07:06. | :07:09.
which means Wakefield are on the back foot again. Dwyer, the young | :07:10. | :07:14.
men who looked to be on the outer Warrington a couple of years ago, | :07:15. | :07:18.
sent down to London on loan, and came back as an emergency when | :07:19. | :07:23.
Mickey Hyams left this club. Absolute Revelation. They've got the | :07:24. | :07:30.
ideal couple of hookers for how Warrington play the game. Daryl | :07:31. | :07:35.
Clark lining up at dummy half. When you Dwyer comes on it is as if the | :07:36. | :07:41.
game has speeded up, almost goes in fast forward. The key for Hull in | :07:42. | :07:45.
the final will be slowing down Warrington. Stopping them rolling | :07:46. | :07:48.
forward, the moment they get on the field. Once you stop at, Clark and | :07:49. | :07:55.
Coe, Russell and coalesce effective. Having said that it's been an | :07:56. | :07:59.
accomplished attacking performance. They've look good in all areas. Mine | :08:00. | :08:06.
try scorers spread across the park. Great performance from them and I'm | :08:07. | :08:10.
sure Tony Smith will be overwhelmed and pleased by the way they've | :08:11. | :08:16.
attack. Miller with a little kick through, not a bad one. Looking | :08:17. | :08:21.
inside, support is there. Miller couldn't get there but it will be | :08:22. | :08:25.
Max Jowitt the full-back who rolls over and plonk sits down. And the | :08:26. | :08:29.
Wakefield fans greet that moment as if they'd just won the semifinal! | :08:30. | :08:37.
Well they might be denied that celebration, looking at offside and | :08:38. | :08:40.
the grounding. Let's hear from Phil Bentham in the video rest rooms | :08:41. | :08:50.
again. Need to check if it is onside. Paws on the foot. That's | :08:51. | :08:55.
fine, he's behind, play on. The next check is the grounding. That's it. | :08:56. | :09:13.
The momentum continues. Pure momentum and that's a try. We just | :09:14. | :09:19.
need to see that in normal speed, please, to demonstrate the fact he | :09:20. | :09:30.
has rolled through the tackle. That's it. No problem, that's a try. | :09:31. | :09:44.
It's not often you score a try this late in the semifinal of a Challenge | :09:45. | :09:50.
Cup and it's barely worth celebrating. But these Wakefield | :09:51. | :09:57.
fans are giving it plenty of noise despite the scoreline reading 52-10. | :09:58. | :10:02.
He's got something about him, has Max Jowitt. I like all the things he | :10:03. | :10:07.
does on a rugby field. For a young guy there is certainly something to | :10:08. | :10:16.
work with. Yes. They have a big miss on the wing. But some nice ingenuity | :10:17. | :10:23.
from Jacob Miller, well finished. Nice for Max Jowitt, a young man, so | :10:24. | :10:27.
young, to scoring a semifinal. If the feelings he's experienced prior | :10:28. | :10:31.
to that that he needs to take away from this event today, and make sure | :10:32. | :10:35.
it makes him stronger for the rest of his career. | :10:36. | :10:46.
Liam Finn. Irish international record points scorer, and that's his | :10:47. | :11:03.
second success of the day. 52-12. This is the Intuit 's knee. -- this | :11:04. | :11:10.
is the ingenuity. Dabs the ball behind. Picks it up, not the best | :11:11. | :11:15.
pass. A fair bit of determination from the youngster to get that ball | :11:16. | :11:22.
over the whitewash and ground it. Good strength, great finish. | :11:23. | :11:33.
Still 11 minutes left. Only 40 points to make up! Seven tries, that | :11:34. | :11:42.
should do it. No takers on that? No takers. Finn. | :11:43. | :11:56.
Not finding any purchase, there. Warrington looking to keep their | :11:57. | :12:02.
foot on the throttle here if they can. He's back. Fifita. After a | :12:03. | :12:22.
spell in the sin-bin. Miller. So, here comes the last tackle in the | :12:23. | :12:29.
set. Finn looking for something creative, it's not bad. Jones Bishop | :12:30. | :12:36.
will carry on the kicking duties. Still kicking, but Currie drops on | :12:37. | :12:44.
it. They will start from here. Evans. His brother, Ben Evans, | :12:45. | :12:53.
currently out injured with an injury he picked up in March. But there are | :12:54. | :12:59.
two brothers in this squad of course, Toby King and George King. | :13:00. | :13:05.
Looking to have the ball family representation in the final. Dwyer. | :13:06. | :13:22.
Building it downfield. Ten minutes to go. Miller again. | :13:23. | :13:39.
Toby Tony Smith will be looking for a tidy finish from his team now. | :13:40. | :13:47.
Defensively they have been as impressive as they have with the | :13:48. | :13:53.
ball. Certainly something after a poor start, I thought they were soft | :13:54. | :13:58.
at the beginning of the game. 120 tries in Super League this year, | :13:59. | :14:02.
more than anybody else, Warrington. Only conceded 425 points. No side | :14:03. | :14:09.
has conceded fewer. They are romping their way to Wembley. A time | :14:10. | :14:16.
winners. They had a big strong hold on this famous old trophy just four, | :14:17. | :14:23.
five, six years ago. 2009, 2010, 2012 they were winners. Are they | :14:24. | :14:27.
going to do it again? Will Hull become the stuff of legend for their | :14:28. | :14:33.
club? That's all to come. Wakefield are still looking for something | :14:34. | :14:40.
here. And Dwyer is unexpectedly able to pick it up. You sense there are | :14:41. | :14:47.
two teams here who will be quite happy for the Hutu to go, really. | :14:48. | :14:52.
Wakefield know it is impossible. Warrington know the job is done. | :14:53. | :15:03.
Somebody came up with a theory that in a game like this there should be | :15:04. | :15:06.
a joke available, if both teams agree, the hooter sounds. Both sides | :15:07. | :15:16.
have to agree. Wakefield fans are slowly disappearing. Ratchford has | :15:17. | :15:26.
knocked on. What can you do in this situation as a Wakefield team? Got | :15:27. | :15:30.
to pull it back to the basics of the game, resting yourselves, if the | :15:31. | :15:33.
effort there, commitment to each other? If that's present you've got | :15:34. | :15:39.
something to work on, haven't you? If those things aren't there, it is | :15:40. | :15:42.
a difficult dressing room to walk into. Certainly is. Look at the | :15:43. | :15:51.
crowd there, though. These are Wakefield fans, by the way. | :15:52. | :15:54.
Absolutely first class. Brilliant support. Wakefield Trinity Wildcats | :15:55. | :16:00.
as they've been known for a few years. They've been talking about | :16:01. | :16:05.
dropping the Wildcats just a little bit, going back to tradition, | :16:06. | :16:09.
playing on the fact they have the likes of Neil Fox as part of their | :16:10. | :16:15.
history. There is a real, real good rugby league pedigree. Michael | :16:16. | :16:19.
Carter just in front of Neil Fox. Here comes an attempted try. Hall is | :16:20. | :16:25.
going to chase his kick, going for the line, reaches over, has he got | :16:26. | :16:33.
there? He's not sure. Well, he deserves that for the skill with his | :16:34. | :16:40.
grip, doesn't he? Is he going to give this? He's asking the question. | :16:41. | :16:49.
No try. They are looking at double movement. Over two Phil Bentham. | :16:50. | :16:57.
We will check the kick first, I'm pretty sure he collected his own | :16:58. | :17:01.
kick. Yes, there is a kick, yeah. Pretty sure he collected his own | :17:02. | :17:27.
kick but we'll just check it. Yeah, there's no problem with that, | :17:28. | :17:30.
everyone is behind him, anyway. That's fine. OK, we need to see a | :17:31. | :17:44.
bit closer to the line, please. So he slides, ball carrying arm is | :17:45. | :17:48.
down. He is therefore tackled at that point. And he reaches out and | :17:49. | :17:59.
puts the ball down. So if we show it in full speed, to confirm that | :18:00. | :18:02.
decision. He comes to stop and reaches out and | :18:03. | :18:23.
his ball carrying arm hit the floor. No try. Penalty. Wakefield fans | :18:24. | :18:34.
thought they had consolation. And now they know they haven't. Double | :18:35. | :18:40.
movement. So not only is it not try, it a penalty for Warrington. Craig | :18:41. | :18:44.
Hall thought he had the consolation of starting it all and finishing it | :18:45. | :18:48.
all today but he didn't quite finish it. Great chase back from Jack | :18:49. | :18:53.
Hughes. He's played 80 minutes in the back row on this right-hand side | :18:54. | :18:56.
with Warrington. Craig Hall had all but scored that, chipped back | :18:57. | :19:00.
inside. The young back rower chased back, made a tackle and forced Hall | :19:01. | :19:07.
into a double movement. The job today was to get to Wembley, it is | :19:08. | :19:11.
achieved, but there is still pride in personal performance to chase | :19:12. | :19:17.
back and tackle. I thought he had scored a try. Here is paid. When you | :19:18. | :19:26.
slow things down it is difficult. Devil 's own job on the video replay | :19:27. | :19:31.
to make sense of it. I'm all in favour of watching them back at game | :19:32. | :19:39.
speed. The decision on the field is such a major influence of whether it | :19:40. | :19:44.
is given or not, isn't it? So why not just give it? Why not just give | :19:45. | :19:49.
the referee the ability to give the try? Knocked on. | :19:50. | :20:02.
He's had a cracking game, Jack Hughes. I know there's error, there. | :20:03. | :20:12.
Not only has he done the tough stuff well, his defence has been really | :20:13. | :20:17.
tidy. Controls his rocks. In attack some real good qualities. Scored a | :20:18. | :20:25.
try, created one. Him and Ben Currie together, sensational. Is that his | :20:26. | :20:34.
fishing, definitely back row? We've seen him pretty effective in the | :20:35. | :20:38.
centre as well. I think that his position. Without doubt, yes stop. | :20:39. | :20:48.
Here is Lyne. Ben Jones Bishop with a flash down the right-hand side, | :20:49. | :21:00.
dragged out of play. Great to see great positivity from Warrington, | :21:01. | :21:03.
even at this stage of the game, the game is won. Still out there and | :21:04. | :21:17.
celebrating. Man of the match, U2 had the job, who have you come up | :21:18. | :21:23.
with? Both half-backs outstanding, Gidley and Sandow. Brett with | :21:24. | :21:28.
Ratchford and Evans from dummy half. Clark has been fantastic. But we | :21:29. | :21:32.
agreed that Jack Hughes down this right-hand side has played every | :21:33. | :21:37.
minute of this game. He was instrumental in crucial plays. And | :21:38. | :21:43.
he is the man of the match for this semifinal. Three and a half minutes | :21:44. | :21:59.
to go. Definitely in the second half for a long, long time now. Clark is | :22:00. | :22:08.
back on the field. Picks up from the feet of Dwyer and off he goes and | :22:09. | :22:11.
writes the roughshod tackle. Here goes daily. So, the final tackle in | :22:12. | :22:21.
the set. Ratchford putting the kick in, gets a deflection and kicks it | :22:22. | :22:27.
on again. It's a sliding theorists. The Manchester United reserve team | :22:28. | :22:31.
playing here on Tuesday night. A bit of football work from both sides, | :22:32. | :22:39.
there! Just shows, though, a ricochet, but still that hunger and | :22:40. | :22:46.
fire in the belly. All of a sudden he gets excited. And there is the | :22:47. | :22:52.
Rio Ferdinand to put it into the stands! The Warrington team are | :22:53. | :22:57.
expecting things to happen. They are on the front foot. Therefore when | :22:58. | :23:02.
things are happening, they are reacting first. Just talking about | :23:03. | :23:06.
Stefan Ratchford, he's one of those guys who's really come on | :23:07. | :23:14.
positionally. Certainly with Gidley and Sandow taking off some of the | :23:15. | :23:19.
pressure and kicking the ball, the likes of Ratchford and Clark have | :23:20. | :23:24.
come into their own. I believe Gidley and Sandow do a lot of the | :23:25. | :23:28.
things may be Ratchford and Clark don't want to do. Ooh! Well, that | :23:29. | :23:35.
was an embarrassment for the Wakefield defence, really. But take | :23:36. | :23:41.
nothing away from Toby King. You can only beat what's in front of you. It | :23:42. | :23:45.
just so happened that what was in front of him melted away. | :23:46. | :23:59.
When you look at a player, you look at what assets he will add to your | :24:00. | :24:06.
team. King playing at the back, got a running game, showed the ball | :24:07. | :24:15.
twice. Melted was a pretty good description. No glory in the way | :24:16. | :24:19.
Wakefield defended this. Fingertips rather than shoulders. Feet are | :24:20. | :24:26.
nowhere near the point of contact. King taking advantage. You look at | :24:27. | :24:35.
the assets and what it might bring. Brings a lot of versatility. A | :24:36. | :24:47.
fantastic try. Stefan Ratchford. Season that | :24:48. | :25:11.
started late for him. After surgery on his knee in the close season. | :25:12. | :25:16.
While before he got up and running this year. Up and running now in no | :25:17. | :25:21.
uncertain terms. His 150th Warrington goal, a little | :25:22. | :25:41.
man monkey has reached today. 56-12. -- a | :25:42. | :25:51.
dispirited team at the minute trudging up to the halfway line. | :25:52. | :26:01.
Warrington fans in raptures at the outstanding performance their team | :26:02. | :26:04.
has put in. Got to admire the Wakefield fans as well. The vast | :26:05. | :26:07.
majority still here and supporting their team. You support your team | :26:08. | :26:11.
through the good times and through the not so good times. Generally | :26:12. | :26:22.
this season it has been good times. Ryan Bailey takes it out of play. In | :26:23. | :26:27.
fact he just takes it through to the final hooter. It has been a | :26:28. | :26:31.
hat-trick of heartbreak for Warrington. Three successive cup | :26:32. | :26:37.
semifinal defeats. But now the primrose and blue is back on Wembley | :26:38. | :26:45.
way. Hull against Warrington on August 27 promises to be a very | :26:46. | :26:49.
special occasion and we have seen a very special performance today here | :26:50. | :26:55.
by Warrington, winning at a canter. Last night by Hull in that | :26:56. | :27:01.
wholehearted atmosphere and Doncaster, where they beat Wigan. | :27:02. | :27:06.
And it all leads to Wembley in just over a month's time. And we cannot | :27:07. | :27:12.
wait. Don't forget the forum is coming up. Have a look on the BBC | :27:13. | :27:18.
website for that. You can listen and join in through social media. Let's | :27:19. | :27:24.
hear from the winning coach, Tony Smith. Many congratulations, how | :27:25. | :27:30.
good a feeling is that? It's good. It's been awhile for our club to get | :27:31. | :27:35.
to one of the big finals. So it's a nice feeling. The game was pretty | :27:36. | :27:41.
one-sided today, I thought. Whilst Wakefield did not give in and throw | :27:42. | :27:46.
the towel in, my team did a pretty good job right from the outset, I | :27:47. | :27:52.
thought. Wakefield scored that early try. You had a quick chat with your | :27:53. | :27:56.
opposite number Chris Chester, what did you say to him? Just one of | :27:57. | :28:01.
those days, it was our day. I think everybody here and everybody | :28:02. | :28:03.
watching at home, I think the momentum of the game was pretty much | :28:04. | :28:10.
one way. But they should be proud of their efforts to get this far. Just | :28:11. | :28:15.
wished him the best for the super eights now. They've done a great | :28:16. | :28:19.
job, Wakefield, from the start they had at the start of the season. So | :28:20. | :28:23.
well done to all. But it's about my boys today. Playing out the game | :28:24. | :28:28.
plan, they played it very well. Not flashy but we did some outstanding | :28:29. | :28:33.
things today as well. Great support, great noise, go and enjoy it. Let's | :28:34. | :28:37.
bring in the man of the match, Jack Hughes. Conference relations. You | :28:38. | :28:42.
fell behind early and then you absolutely walloped them. We did, | :28:43. | :28:47.
yeah. What an outstanding effort. I can't explain the feeling. We did go | :28:48. | :28:52.
behind early but we did not panic, we knew we should just get back to | :28:53. | :28:55.
what we do best and the results would come. At what point did you | :28:56. | :28:59.
feel you had got them? I'd say about 20 minutes in. We had a fast ruck | :29:00. | :29:08.
going, they had a turnover on their own line, I got the feeling then. | :29:09. | :29:12.
Some champagne for you, many congratulations. Thanks a lot. | :29:13. | :29:19.
STUDIO: Denis Betts, Jamie Peacock, Brian Noble watching alongside me. | :29:20. | :29:25.
You could see in Tony Smith's face and in their performance the | :29:26. | :29:28.
determination to get to Wembley and put the three semifinals behind | :29:29. | :29:34.
them. Since Tony has been there, getting to finals and winning big | :29:35. | :29:38.
games has been his remit. Got to a couple of finals and fell short. | :29:39. | :29:43.
Today is another big step. They have recruited really well in the | :29:44. | :29:46.
off-season. First big challenge was to get to Challenge Cup final, have | :29:47. | :29:51.
taken that on. Tony summed it up, it was their day-to-day. I had a tweet | :29:52. | :29:58.
from, who was it from? Gareth Freeman. I can't work out whether | :29:59. | :30:01.
Wakefield have been poor or Warrington have been great. | :30:02. | :30:07.
Warrington were great, outstanding. As good a semifinal performance as | :30:08. | :30:11.
you will see. Against a weaker opposition they were ruthless and | :30:12. | :30:13.
clinical and had more intent in everything they did physically | :30:14. | :30:16.
within the game, allowing them to play with flair in the back half of | :30:17. | :30:18.
the second half. And as we see Warrington and the | :30:19. | :30:28.
fans celebrate, we need to have a word about Wakefield and the fans. | :30:29. | :30:32.
They supported them and did not stop singing during the second half. They | :30:33. | :30:36.
were brilliant right the way through. They are still here. The | :30:37. | :30:41.
