Today it plays host to the rugby league Challenge Cup final between

Hull FC and Wigan Warriors. It will be fast, furious, physical and

:00:24.:00:25.

hopefully phenomenal. final between Hull FC and Wigan

:00:26.:00:27.

Warriors. It is going to be final between Hull FC and Wigan

:00:28.:00:27.

Warriors. It is going to fast, furious, physical and hopefully

:00:28.:00:28.

phenomenal. Now, ladies and gentlemen, you all

:00:29.:01:05.

know this so you join me in the chorus, and if you don't know the

:01:06.:01:11.

words, whistle it. In Lancashire, babies don't toddle, they sidestep.

:01:12.:01:18.

Sam Tomkins. It is brilliant. And as they grow, they become great

:01:19.:01:23.

entertainers. Josh Lynham, across the line, he has done it!

:01:24.:01:28.

Tremendously well worked try. A town full of energy, passion and verve.

:01:29.:01:34.

In the middle of the field and he scores, he does! What a try! It must

:01:35.:01:42.

be one of the all-time great tries at Wembley. This is northern soul.

:01:43.:01:47.

This is Wigan. Then there's the white phone box,

:01:48.:02:05.

Philip Larkin and the housemartins. What a beautiful move. He's over!

:02:06.:02:16.

Well, my word, what a move. Loyalties run deep in Hull. This is

:02:17.:02:21.

the cultured city. We always thought culture was Robbie and fish and

:02:22.:02:24.

chips and now we are seeing it is more, it is art, it is history. --

:02:25.:02:26.

was rugby and fish and chips. Two places 100 miles apart. But

:02:27.:02:45.

united in their love for rugby league. In these streets, the

:02:46.:02:53.

greatest game is more than simple entertainment. Burgess with a kick

:02:54.:02:58.

back down the medal, McIlorum, what a wonderful try! It's a way of life.

:02:59.:03:05.

And absolutely miraculous pass away! It is the current holders. No more

:03:06.:03:09.

can they say they never won admiringly because they have won at

:03:10.:03:15.

Wembley. Against the record holders. Wigan's incredible Challenge Cup run

:03:16.:03:21.

continues. Growing up, it always felt like the Challenge Cup final

:03:22.:03:25.

was played on a sunny afternoon and it is a sunny day in north-west

:03:26.:03:30.

London. The fans of Hull and Wigan and the beauty of the Challenge Cup

:03:31.:03:33.

final you get fans of all clubs coming to this great day out. But

:03:34.:03:39.

for the two sets of men, it is most important. Hull, the Challenge Cup

:03:40.:03:44.

owners, willing it -- winning it at Wembley last year. Danny Houghton,

:03:45.:03:48.

so influential 12 months ago. Will he do it again or will Sean

:03:49.:03:52.

O'Loughlin and the Wigan team, Sam Tomkins, of course, get their hands

:03:53.:03:57.

back on the Challenge Cup. Shaun Wane's side, of course, the cup

:03:58.:04:01.

kings, the team who have won it more than any other rugby league side. We

:04:02.:04:08.

are a lie that Wembley Stadium, as you can see, it is not too busy

:04:09.:04:11.

inside the stadium, fans making full use of the sunshine and the bar

:04:12.:04:18.

inside the stadium. And why wouldn't you? If you want to

:04:19.:04:22.

get involved, you can throughout the afternoon, we would love to leave

:04:23.:04:25.

your views on the game which everyone seems to think is too tight

:04:26.:04:31.

to call. You can drop us a tweet through the day, and we will hear

:04:32.:04:35.

plenty of opinions from these three men as well. Whatever you may have

:04:36.:04:39.

thought over the course of the season, we don't pick them randomly,

:04:40.:04:43.

we picked them for their expertise, all three of them... No, we do!

:04:44.:04:47.

Jamie Peacock, Jon Wilkin and Brian Noble have all got history with the

:04:48.:04:53.

Challenge Cup. Brian has still got that suit, actually. They have all

:04:54.:04:59.

had their hands on it as winners and Jamie, it is a special day. It is an

:05:00.:05:04.

incredible day as a player and a coach and when you look forward to,

:05:05.:05:07.

one you dream about playing as a young boy. You want to come down to

:05:08.:05:11.

Wembley, play in the game, hopefully not look like Jon there. It is an

:05:12.:05:17.

amazing day, to get the opportunity as a young rugby league found to do

:05:18.:05:20.

that, to the trophy is what this game is built about, and the history

:05:21.:05:26.

and the tradition is ingrained in the sport, to lift the cup as a

:05:27.:05:30.

coach or player is a dream. It is a fabulous occasion and you try to

:05:31.:05:33.

savour every moment, players and coaches find that difficult until it

:05:34.:05:36.

is all done, one way or the other but the fans can afford to enjoy

:05:37.:05:40.

that but so many emotions built around it. Starting with you, I said

:05:41.:05:44.

it's too close to call and later we will find out who you are tipping

:05:45.:05:49.

but you can put a fine sheet of paper between the teams, can't you?

:05:50.:05:54.

You can and if you look at Hull's Challenge Cup form, you would

:05:55.:05:57.

slightly go to them with some of the games they have got over the line,

:05:58.:06:00.

beating Castleford and leads along the way. Wigan have had a resurgence

:06:01.:06:04.

recently in the league. They have got their best team back on deck.

:06:05.:06:08.

Genuinely it is really close. I think both teams are really

:06:09.:06:11.

confident in relation to what they can pick up today. Jamie? Wigan

:06:12.:06:17.

slightly edged it for me. Both of these sites are the best teams in

:06:18.:06:20.

the country at the moment. They might not be the most consistent but

:06:21.:06:23.

they can raise their game to a level other clubs cannot at the moment. I

:06:24.:06:27.

think Wigan have got just enough in their armoury to edge it, they've

:06:28.:06:30.

got their best players back, they are in form and some of the best

:06:31.:06:34.

players can break again. The best two teams in the country? Yeah.

:06:35.:06:39.

Castleford fans, get in touch on Twitter to make your point Jamie

:06:40.:06:46.

Peacock! Let's look at the teams, starting with Hull, Jon Wilkin, take

:06:47.:06:50.

us through. Full of power, this Hull side, at the back of the field we

:06:51.:06:55.

have Jamie Shaul, Mahe Fonua, and Talanoa. In the centres, Carlos

:06:56.:07:01.

Tuimavave the and Josh Griffin, two big, powerful centres, aggressive.

:07:02.:07:04.

In the half-backs, Albert Kelly and Marc Sneyd, who will be in charge of

:07:05.:07:11.

directing Hull around. When I mentioned some of the fans

:07:12.:07:14.

have gone to the bar to get ready for this game, maybe the graphics

:07:15.:07:19.

team have gone to the bar as well but it looks like they have got

:07:20.:07:22.

their finger on the button, ready to go! Shall we try again? Can you

:07:23.:07:27.

remember what you said first time? No, we will make it up. The Hull

:07:28.:07:35.

back three are very powerful. Jamie Shaul, dynamic, bring it all

:07:36.:07:39.

together. The centres are regressive, Josh Griffin and Carlos

:07:40.:07:42.

Tuimavave, watch for them attacking Sam Tomkins and George Williams. In

:07:43.:07:45.

the heart, Albert Kelly will make some thing happened and Marc Sneyd

:07:46.:07:49.

will look to kick Wigan to death. In the front row, the big men, Scott

:07:50.:07:53.

Taylor, Danny Houghton's workrate is exceptional, and Liam Watts. In the

:07:54.:07:57.

back row, huge amount of experience and this is one of the strength for

:07:58.:08:01.

me, Seeker Manu, Gareth Ellis and Minichiello, all world-class back

:08:02.:08:06.

rows. Big fellows on the bench, Jake Connor, who will come on as a

:08:07.:08:09.

half-back and kick the ball, and Josh Bowden will carry the ball

:08:10.:08:13.

strongly. And finally, Danny Washbrook and Chris Green finish

:08:14.:08:18.

this Hull side. I think what you will hear over the course of the

:08:19.:08:21.

next 50 minutes before kick-off is the talk about the physicality of

:08:22.:08:24.

the Hull team and the difference in the kicking game between the two

:08:25.:08:28.

teams and we will explore that and expand on it before kick-off. Now,

:08:29.:08:33.

fingers crossed, Brian will take you through the Wigan team. It is a

:08:34.:08:40.

return to form for the sensational Sam Tomkins, who is physical --

:08:41.:08:43.

pivotal to Wigan's aspiration, alongside Tom Davies and Joe

:08:44.:08:48.

Burgess. Joe Grima pack, Anthony Gelling, partnering Oliver Gildart.

:08:49.:08:52.

In the half-backs, no less a challenge for them as for their Hull

:08:53.:08:57.

counterparts, Thomas Leuluai why's organisational skills and George

:08:58.:09:01.

Williams' running game. And a big front row, Lewis Oliva, the

:09:02.:09:04.

massively experience Michael McIlorum, and Tony Clubb. And the

:09:05.:09:09.

back three with Sean O'Loughlin as the captain, surely pivotal day

:09:10.:09:13.

alongside John Bateman and Liam Farrell. On the bench, mightily

:09:14.:09:19.

important, the vastly experienced Willie Isa and local product Ryan

:09:20.:09:24.

Sutton. Sam Powell will best Michael McIlorum at some stage, so look out

:09:25.:09:31.

for the explosion of Taulima Tautai. Brian, one of the great things about

:09:32.:09:35.

a Challenge Cup final, about any final actually, is the reaction of

:09:36.:09:38.

the players when they first come out onto the pitch and see Wembley and

:09:39.:09:42.

gauge the atmosphere. When they did that a bit earlier, Damian Johnson

:09:43.:09:45.

and Tanya were there to pick up their reactions.

:09:46.:09:51.

Familiar territory view, 450 appearances and counting but days

:09:52.:09:56.

like this, you can't get enough of? You can't and it is what makes these

:09:57.:10:00.

career highlights, days like today, even coming in and arriving here

:10:01.:10:05.

today it sinks in, how special it is, how lucky we are to be involved.

:10:06.:10:08.

Really good to be back, it seems like two minutes ago but it is four

:10:09.:10:12.

years since we have been here and it seems a long time now. We are here

:10:13.:10:15.

to do a job and hopefully we can come away with a victory. It will be

:10:16.:10:18.

a tough game, especially against Hull, who were doing really well.

:10:19.:10:23.

Pretty scary, sitting here, looking at how big it is, it is more nervous

:10:24.:10:33.

when there is no one in here, quite, the team were running and I felt a

:10:34.:10:36.

bit more nervous than I would be if it was full so looking forward to it

:10:37.:10:39.

being fat. It is my first experience at Wembley, a massive honour for me

:10:40.:10:42.

to play you and I can't wait. We've got a role to play today, we are on

:10:43.:10:45.

a mission. 80 minutes determines whether we come away with a win or

:10:46.:10:49.

not. Obviously, your dad won a medal with Wigan here. What has he told

:10:50.:10:53.

you about the experience? He just said to enjoy it, you don't get the

:10:54.:10:56.

chance to come to Wembley often so embrace it and take it in and it's a

:10:57.:11:00.

game of rugby so enjoy it. I bet he will be as nervous as you watching?

:11:01.:11:05.

Yes, I think it is worse out there but I want to get the win for my

:11:06.:11:10.

family today and make them proud. Wigan have always had the experience

:11:11.:11:13.

of finals and we've had a tough run and knocked out some top teams on

:11:14.:11:16.

the way here. We've both owned the right to be here and I believe we

:11:17.:11:19.

both have big-game players in our team so it will be to the death

:11:20.:11:24.

today. I've got a lot of family coming, 20 odd will be here which is

:11:25.:11:29.

nice. It makes it extra special. Especially being where it is, it is

:11:30.:11:33.

such an iconic place, Wembley. Not too far from home which is nice. Not

:11:34.:11:40.

far to travel. It is a really strong defence against another strong

:11:41.:11:43.

defence and if it takes 80 minutes, we are prepared to do it but today

:11:44.:11:46.

is about getting our hands back on the trophy and we will do all it

:11:47.:11:50.

takes to win it. Let's take a look at some of the statistics involving

:11:51.:11:55.

both teams. Hull a bit older and they are also heavier as well,

:11:56.:11:58.

particularly when you look at the backs. They are a stone per man

:11:59.:12:06.

heavier than Wigan. And because their Challenge Cup win came last

:12:07.:12:09.

year, they've got more Challenge Cup winners in the squad than Wigan

:12:10.:12:16.

have. How imported, Jamie, will the difference in weight be? I think it

:12:17.:12:19.

is important if Hull keep hold of the ball.

:12:20.:12:24.

Big is beautiful when you can keep hold of the ball, you can get on the

:12:25.:12:30.

front foot and play the power game and Hull beat Castleford and leads

:12:31.:12:32.

by playing the power game, getting the back free on the front foot,

:12:33.:12:35.

carrying the ball hard and the forwards running hard and if they

:12:36.:12:38.

can do that and have a large percentage of possession, they could

:12:39.:12:42.

be unstoppable almost. But Wigan are athletic and can capitalise on that

:12:43.:12:48.

as well. Without doubt, it is Hull's Power versus Wigan's fitness and

:12:49.:12:52.

technical ability but for me, Hull's outside backs are fantastic, Mahe

:12:53.:12:56.

Fonua and Talanoa, look out for them carrying the ball a dummy half,

:12:57.:13:00.

making easy yards on the first few players and off the back of that,

:13:01.:13:04.

Tuimavave and Griffin, two big like to carry the ball and they are very

:13:05.:13:08.

direct. Hull's physicality and sizes their strength but it would be a

:13:09.:13:12.

weakness today. In these conditions. It is really warm and if they don't

:13:13.:13:19.

respect possession and come up with errors, it will play to Wigan's and

:13:20.:13:22.

because they are more dynamic and fit. For a coach, how much would you

:13:23.:13:25.

pay attention to the number of Challenge Cup winners in either

:13:26.:13:28.

squad? Is it a bit of an abnormal -- an anomaly because Hull only won

:13:29.:13:33.

last year? I think the experience aspect is overrated, what we are

:13:34.:13:36.

trying to say to the view is if it is about performance on the date and

:13:37.:13:39.

the two guys here have picked up on a couple of crucial things. In and

:13:40.:13:43.

around the ruck, where the big boys are, winning the ground, vitally

:13:44.:13:47.

important for me alone. The kicking game could be the difference. If

:13:48.:13:51.

Hull can get a good start and have got the energy going, it is going to

:13:52.:13:55.

be hard for Wigan and the difference in kicking, I don't think Wigan have

:13:56.:13:58.

quite replaced Matty Smith in relation to kicking the ball on. Do

:13:59.:14:02.

you genuinely think big-game experience is something that the

:14:03.:14:06.

media are obsessed with more than you guys involved? I think it is

:14:07.:14:12.

important but the statistic is, Wigan have to play in World Club

:14:13.:14:14.

Challenge is and they understand the routine of the game, and the only

:14:15.:14:17.

thing that will sap the energy is a few of the boys have not played at

:14:18.:14:21.

Wembley and it is energy sapping in the tunnel and out on the pitch and

:14:22.:14:25.

they won't understand that but I think the big-game capacity and the

:14:26.:14:28.

ability to win those games, Wigan have got that. Wigan's resurgence

:14:29.:14:32.

has come about by getting their key players back in position and we will

:14:33.:14:43.

speak about Sam Tomkins a lot, George Williams, O'Loughlin, Michael

:14:44.:14:45.

McIlorum, those players in key positions. I was alluding to the

:14:46.:14:47.

fact that experience was not important but you have to perform

:14:48.:14:49.

when you have that experience, relate it to everyone else and

:14:50.:14:52.

getting it on the field. It is pointless just looking at people who

:14:53.:14:54.

are experienced, you've got to rock up and perform, come out on the big

:14:55.:14:57.

stage and be calm and that experience Jamie is talking about

:14:58.:14:59.

gives you that familiarity to be a bit more relaxed and comfortable in

:15:00.:15:03.

your role. You don't worry about the occasion because you understand it,

:15:04.:15:06.

the big game, you just worry about your own performance. You have far

:15:07.:15:10.

more effort thinking about your performance than the occasion. We

:15:11.:15:13.

have plenty to come between now and kick-off. From Leigh to London, we

:15:14.:15:22.

look back on the road to Wembley. Lee Radford is the Hull coach who is

:15:23.:15:26.

full of character and Brian Noble went to meet him and his wife at

:15:27.:15:30.

home. Wigan are looking for their 20th cup win but how are they

:15:31.:15:34.

preparing? They gave us special access at their big breakfast. What

:15:35.:15:40.

is the greatest final? Lots to choose from but 1985 was not bad. If

:15:41.:15:44.

somehow you have not seen those highlights, you are in for a treat.

:15:45.:15:50.

Who will come out on top today? Our pundits will look at this fabulous

:15:51.:15:57.

final's potential game breakers. Plenty to come then, this is the

:15:58.:16:02.

71st match of this season's Ladbrokes Challenge Cup so the road

:16:03.:16:08.

to Wembley has been an entertaining one and BBC sport has been there

:16:09.:16:14.

ever since -- every step of the way. In any given year, the road to

:16:15.:16:17.

Wembley is paved with skill, spectacle and surprise.

:16:18.:16:23.

2017 has been no different. Following standout wins by Wigan,

:16:24.:16:28.

and Siddle in the early rounds, rugby league when Trans Atlantic in

:16:29.:16:33.

Round 3 as the Toronto Wolfpack are rugby league's Globetrotters, made

:16:34.:16:37.

their professional debut against Siddle. In torrential conditions,

:16:38.:16:40.

Adam Sidlow cross to seal the win for the Wolfpack. Rugby league had

:16:41.:16:45.

taken a giant leap into the muddy unknown. March and more history was

:16:46.:16:50.

made by Haydock as they began the lowest ranked side to reach this

:16:51.:16:55.

stage, but they were not a match for Goldust. And then the Challenge Cup

:16:56.:17:02.

travelled to the edge of the Lake District where Whitehaven were

:17:03.:17:08.

beaten soundly by Halifax. Round 6 saw the competition take

:17:09.:17:13.

flight as Castleford book on -- but on a masterclass against a

:17:14.:17:21.

struggling St Helens. Minikin! Wow! Castleford! That tells you their

:17:22.:17:27.

story! 31-4 up at half-time before a brilliant Greg Eden hat-trick in the

:17:28.:17:28.

second half. Castleford, mesmeric. Next, Warrington hosted Wigan and

:17:29.:17:42.

this one went down to the wire. Sam Tomkins' drop goal looked to have

:17:43.:17:46.

won it but a late Kurt Gidley try made it a 1-point game. There is the

:17:47.:17:51.

class. Cue the drama, Stefan Ratchford with a chance to win it.

:17:52.:17:56.

Has he got in? No, it's gone wide. And then on the hooter. Last play of

:17:57.:18:03.

the game, he has put it over! That was the point that could have kept

:18:04.:18:12.

their season alive! Wigan advance. The final four kicked off with

:18:13.:18:16.

holders Hull, who had eliminated Castleford in the quarterfinals,

:18:17.:18:20.

against Leeds Rhinos. Leeds took the early initiative. Ryan Hall! He's

:18:21.:18:25.

dancing with delight. But Hull powered back to lead at the break.

:18:26.:18:32.

And absolutely miraculous pass the way so Chris Green scores! And then

:18:33.:18:37.

a try from the men in black and white, Scott Taylor with the final

:18:38.:18:45.

word. Hull return to Wembley. In their second semifinal, Salford took

:18:46.:18:49.

an Wigan, and the Warriors raced into a 12-0 lead before Salford

:18:50.:18:54.

bravely fought back. Dobson's little kick to the in-goal area. I think

:18:55.:18:59.

they got there! But semifinal glory runs through the blood for the men

:19:00.:19:04.

in Jerry and white. Gildart crowns the win. Wigan through to their 31st

:19:05.:19:06.

Challenge Cup final. Jon Wilkin, when you look at how

:19:07.:19:16.

both teams have got here, who's impressed you more? Hull because

:19:17.:19:21.

they have been big-game's entertainers this season, beating

:19:22.:19:25.

Castleford and Leeds, who are Super League's. Do? I thought the most

:19:26.:19:29.

impressive performance of all was Hull against Castleford. I thought

:19:30.:19:32.

that was an exceptional execution of a really simple game plan.

:19:33.:19:37.

Absolutely demolishing Castleford, who were informed. For me, out of

:19:38.:19:41.

all those performances, Hull with the stand-up performance and

:19:42.:19:44.

although their form in Super League has been a bit indifferent of late,

:19:45.:19:47.

in the cup they have been exceptional and they will attack

:19:48.:19:51.

this game full of confidence. Wigan, on the other hand, their Super

:19:52.:19:53.

League form was scratchy but they've used the cup to get themselves going

:19:54.:19:56.

and they are in the Challenge Cup final now, coming into great form.

:19:57.:20:01.

Ryan, give them credit because their Super League form was scratchy so

:20:02.:20:05.

they have had to battle. It was a battle at Warrington to get

:20:06.:20:06.

themselves to the semifinal. An absolute battle and getting the

:20:07.:20:16.

troops back as well, Tomkins is back on top of his game and the spine is

:20:17.:20:20.

there. Both teams will create opportunities today and taking those

:20:21.:20:23.

opportunities will be absolutely vital. We might see some special

:20:24.:20:27.

defensive plays in relation to both teams that might get them over the

:20:28.:20:31.

line. We are going to find out a bit more about how both teams are

:20:32.:20:35.

preparing for this afternoon's match, now, going into the dressing

:20:36.:20:39.

rooms of both teams with our two time Challenge Cup winner Robbie

:20:40.:20:41.

Hunter Paul. Once again, the BBC Sport's inside

:20:42.:20:48.

information and access to behind-the-scenes, that probably in

:20:49.:20:52.

most other sports you don't get. There's a lot of space in the

:20:53.:20:55.

changing room, toilets down there, dressing areas for the support

:20:56.:20:59.

staff. Have a look, they even have hairdryers but I'm not sure why they

:21:00.:21:04.

will need those for rugby players. Looking at the background, players

:21:05.:21:06.

getting massages and also getting stripped in the background, a

:21:07.:21:10.

separate room for that. Come into the main changing room itself, music

:21:11.:21:13.

playing in the background, very relaxed at this point. In the next

:21:14.:21:18.

15-20 minutes, it will stop to tighten up as we get closer to kick

:21:19.:21:22.

off and it will become more serious. Have a quick look at the

:21:23.:21:26.

preparation, water, coconut water or lined up, some of it even peach

:21:27.:21:30.

flavoured, carbohydrates and water and a whole host of different

:21:31.:21:35.

supplements to get all the players ready for what they've got to do.

:21:36.:21:38.

Come through into this room, a bit of an exercise space where the

:21:39.:21:43.

players are using rollers, stretching, making sure they are

:21:44.:21:47.

doing their own self massage and then just throwing the ball a little

:21:48.:21:51.

bit, throwing the ball around. This is how the players prepare for these

:21:52.:21:54.

massive, massive games. Rob Lee's microphone obviously not

:21:55.:22:20.

working in the Wigan dressing room as well as it was in the Hull

:22:21.:22:25.

dressing room. -- Robbie's. When you are getting ready to come out for

:22:26.:22:28.

one of these games, did you prefer to mill around, did you stretch, did

:22:29.:22:32.

you want to throw the ball around? How did you prepare? Reds I was

:22:33.:22:36.

quite relaxed towards the back end of the grid, and experience of

:22:37.:22:39.

several finals and just enjoying it and probably with about 30 minutes

:22:40.:22:43.

to go I would start to switch on, headphones would go on, I would

:22:44.:22:46.

realise I was about to go out there and try to hurt some people and get

:22:47.:22:56.

the kill switch flicked on. Go out there and play my game and with

:22:57.:22:59.

about 20 minutes to go, I would start speaking to people in and

:23:00.:23:02.

around, we know the game plan, we know what we're doing, have a word

:23:03.:23:04.

with the younger players, telling them to enjoy the occasion and play

:23:05.:23:07.

the game and make the most of it. And experience guys have a big part

:23:08.:23:10.

to play in dressing rooms before those games and some of those

:23:11.:23:12.

experienced players will be going around, offering little bits of

:23:13.:23:14.

wisdom, executing a game plan, talking about some really basic

:23:15.:23:17.

things to get them into the game. At the same time, you have to know who

:23:18.:23:22.

is receptive to that and maybe who wants to be left alone? The modern

:23:23.:23:26.

dressing room is slightly different to the ones I've played in the past.

:23:27.:23:31.

Headphones on, the lads are the phone, it is different. I think it

:23:32.:23:35.

is to be a different environment. The changing room is a challenge

:23:36.:23:38.

these days, let me tell you but some people are receptive to feedback and

:23:39.:23:42.

chat and others will stand and growl in the mid--- in a mirror, some will

:23:43.:23:47.

tie their shoelaces are certain way. I'm wondering how different we are,

:23:48.:23:51.

did they have hairdryers in your day? Ghribi or Parliamentary group

:23:52.:23:57.

on Rugby league should ask for hairdryers in changing rooms. -- the

:23:58.:24:01.

all Parliamentary group on rugby league. I would put my money on you

:24:02.:24:04.

being the one that was standing in front of the mirror, not necessarily

:24:05.:24:08.

growling, though. Fingers crossed that Robbie Hunter Paul's microphone

:24:09.:24:11.

has been plugged in and now we can go into the Wigan dressing room.

:24:12.:24:17.

Now I'm in the Wigan dressing room and as you can see, they have made

:24:18.:24:24.

it a home away from home. More than two of the club's legend on the

:24:25.:24:27.

field on the walls of the changing room. Very much like the last

:24:28.:24:32.

changing room, set up pretty much almost exactly the same. Strapping

:24:33.:24:37.

on the one side, hairdryers again on the other, with the toilet and

:24:38.:24:39.

everything and then into the changing room. Very different to the

:24:40.:24:44.

other one because obviously, the music was playing and it was a lot

:24:45.:24:49.

more relaxed. These guys are a lot more focused, there is mood lighting

:24:50.:24:53.

and you can see the guys are the programme, potentially about

:24:54.:24:56.

themselves or trying to take their mind off what they are going to do

:24:57.:25:01.

in the following 90 minutes. Very serious, very different set up to

:25:02.:25:04.

the room and what they are doing here, this is the room where they

:25:05.:25:09.

get their mind on the job, to focus on the 90 minutes they've got ahead.

:25:10.:25:13.

Outside the room, probably a bit more relaxed, inside Beazer is like

:25:14.:25:16.

a hallowed turf so we will leave them to crack on with the job.

:25:17.:25:23.

-- inside the room. LAUGHTER I love the come it is series,

:25:24.:25:27.

everyone's being focused and then Anthony Gelling ASBOs into the

:25:28.:25:32.

camera! Blogging Robbie Hunter ball out of the water. He has a bit but I

:25:33.:25:36.

find the difference in the changing rooms really interesting. Looks

:25:37.:25:42.

pretty serious, nothing happens by chance and I imagine that is

:25:43.:25:45.

something Wigan have researched and maybe they believe it helps

:25:46.:25:47.

performance along the way. The thing I love about rugby league is it is

:25:48.:25:50.

full of characters and Anthony Gelling is a quiet character, one of

:25:51.:25:54.

the things I love about being in a dressing room with people like that.

:25:55.:25:58.

Wigan have beaten Hull three times in the Challenge Cup final. One of

:25:59.:26:04.

them was 32 years ago, 1985, arguably the best final there has

:26:05.:26:17.

ever been been shown numerous times but it is always worth another view

:26:18.:26:19.

and after we have seen the highlights, we will get the views of

:26:20.:26:22.

our commentary team to find out their memories of the day. Let's go

:26:23.:26:25.

back to the future of 1985. Run the tape!

:26:26.:26:31.

This is rugby league at its very best! James! Brilliant sidestep,

:26:32.:26:41.

what a majestic piece of rugby league. Superb drive from Kenny! He

:26:42.:26:55.

has got the speed,! Tremendously well worked try! He can make

:26:56.:27:01.

himself, if he does. Edwards! He has got a way. No problem! And

:27:02.:27:23.

he's in, yes, Leuluai. To Divorty, is Ian, yes, he is! Is this going to

:27:24.:27:30.

be a grandstand finish or not. A tremendous drive. And there's the

:27:31.:27:39.

hooter! What a game! An incredible match, 28-24, Wigan.

:27:40.:27:47.

We are at the statue outside Wembley Stadium, the five Wembley Legends of

:27:48.:27:53.

rugby league, that final, 1985, 32 years ago, is still etched on so

:27:54.:27:57.

many people's memories, including John Kear, who watched the game that

:27:58.:28:00.

day. It had such an impact, that final, on the game as a whole. It

:28:01.:28:05.

took the game to another level, fantastic skill level, ten tries out

:28:06.:28:09.

there, fantastic rugby league players, Ferguson on one side, Peter

:28:10.:28:13.

Siddle on the other commie could go through the hole but they'll play to

:28:14.:28:15.

their potential that day and it was one of the feature final. Djuricin

:28:16.:28:20.

and babies, watching that final commutes to play rugby union in

:28:21.:28:23.

those days, was that one of the reasons you came to rugby league. --

:28:24.:28:29.

and Jonathan Davies. It was a great occasion for every sports fan. It

:28:30.:28:32.

was a great day for rugby league, a great occasion and they are great

:28:33.:28:37.

games. Whether they are the drive best of 85, I remember Haydn 's

:28:38.:28:41.

knocking Alex Murphy getting sent off in 71, I was nine years old. It

:28:42.:28:45.

is one of those things, every rugby club watched the Challenge Cup final

:28:46.:28:50.

and it was one of the rain -- main reasons I wanted to play. When you

:28:51.:28:53.

mixed with the rugby league boys, you could see the desire of going to

:28:54.:28:57.

be was huge. A family connection today because James Leuluai scored

:28:58.:29:02.

the last great try in that game and his son Thomas plays today for

:29:03.:29:07.

Wigan. Tommy is a different type of player to James, Tommy is more of an

:29:08.:29:12.

organiser. If Wigan are going to win, he will be important but you

:29:13.:29:15.

look at his battle against Marc Sneyd and that will be vital, who

:29:16.:29:18.

gets the best of the kicking game, who organises the team the better.

:29:19.:29:23.

The contrast in styles, this could be a classic, the heavy Hull team,

:29:24.:29:27.

controlling the ball, difficult to beat but then it is a warm day and

:29:28.:29:32.

the speed of Tomkins, and the Wigan outside backs, they could be

:29:33.:29:37.

influential. No one can predict a clear winner. There is no clear

:29:38.:29:41.

favourite so hopefully it will be a classic. Going back to 1985, we saw

:29:42.:29:45.

one of the best wingers of his generation, John Ferguson, and in

:29:46.:29:49.

Kenyan sterling, two of the best players all time. -- Kenny and

:29:50.:29:54.

Stirling. Without a doubt, it is probably one of the best wins I have

:29:55.:29:58.

seen, I had a good sidestep in my day, that is how good he was and

:29:59.:30:01.

with Stirling and Kenny, they were of the game and their game was

:30:02.:30:09.

fantastic. We had the iconic commentary from that particular day

:30:10.:30:13.

so another classic delay? Definitely. We're keeping our

:30:14.:30:17.

fingers crossed. Mark, the atmosphere outside is building

:30:18.:30:20.

nicely. They are wondering where you are but we're having a great time

:30:21.:30:22.

and looking forward to what will hopefully be a classic.

:30:23.:30:26.

No, they are not! The atmosphere is building inside Wembley as well. We

:30:27.:30:30.

are half an hour away from kick-off, Hull against Wigan in the 2017

:30:31.:30:35.

Challenge Cup final. Both sides out and warming up at the moment. Of

:30:36.:30:40.

course, tradition courses through the veins of the Challenge Cup so

:30:41.:30:44.

before kick-off, we always have the traditional hymn of abide with me.

:30:45.:30:48.

There are some of the performers, there. Tanya is pitch side with a

:30:49.:30:53.

woman who will be leading it all. This year it will be sung by 23 Rod

:30:54.:30:59.

Kathleen Greene. Tell us and you have ended up being Abide With Me.

:31:00.:31:05.

There was a competition and I made it to the finals and here I am. How

:31:06.:31:15.

did you find out you have one? The Rugby Football League e-mailed me,

:31:16.:31:18.

congratulating me and posted it to my friends on Facebook. It was

:31:19.:31:23.

amazing. And here you are, but the family is not here, how will they

:31:24.:31:28.

hear you singing? I'm going to have do film it and put it on Facebook in

:31:29.:31:31.

a live stream because they are back home in Hong Kong. It is a heck of a

:31:32.:31:37.

platform for you at 23. Hoping a bit more work will come from it? Fingers

:31:38.:31:39.

crossed! Croenen I'm quite nervous but I

:31:40.:31:52.

think it will go great. It is a supportive crowd. I don't think I

:31:53.:31:56.

will have any problems. I've heard you and I'm sure you will be

:31:57.:32:01.

fantastic, enjoy it. Thank you. We wish her the best of luck with

:32:02.:32:06.

that. We are going to focus on the holders of big Challenge Cup, Hull

:32:07.:32:09.

FC, and the man who is the focus of our focus is Lee Radford. Shut up,

:32:10.:32:16.

you three! Lee Radford, their head coach. We sent a very special guest

:32:17.:32:18.

around to his. Brian. How are we doing? I

:32:19.:32:33.

understand you need a bit of advice for the big game coming up. You must

:32:34.:32:40.

have the wrong house, sorry. Radders?

:32:41.:32:45.

What's the best thing about him? LAUGHTER

:32:46.:32:53.

How long have you got? The best thing is his dress sense.

:32:54.:32:59.

LAUGHTER You went and got married in season,

:33:00.:33:05.

the golden rule. I was forced into it. I didn't have a choice, it was

:33:06.:33:11.

now or never. We have been engaged for 20 years and I had the

:33:12.:33:16.

ultimatum. Did you actually give him the ultimatum? No, the honest truth

:33:17.:33:20.

is he took me away on a really romantic weekend, he even got down

:33:21.:33:24.

on won joint and did it all properly. The one reason, even

:33:25.:33:26.

though the happy occasion it was, you are still the only man in the

:33:27.:33:31.

north of England to make a profit at your own wedding. I did bump up the

:33:32.:33:35.

beer prices are little on the day but I'm led to believe that happens

:33:36.:33:39.

at all weddings. There were one or two disgruntled customers, I'm led

:33:40.:33:44.

to believe. Did you ever think you would be a coach? Something I

:33:45.:33:51.

enjoyed early in my career, I'd like to think my experiences as a player

:33:52.:33:58.

have best prepared me, I think, for hopefully a long and successful

:33:59.:34:03.

coaching career. Is it different the week of the big-game? He goes a bit

:34:04.:34:07.

more serious, I think. He just seems really mature that week at home. It

:34:08.:34:09.

is true, though. COMMENTATOR: Listen to the noise of

:34:10.:34:15.

the Black and Whites! I have to ask misses Radford this

:34:16.:34:25.

question, not 18 months prior to that it was banners all over the

:34:26.:34:30.

place, Radders out, how did you cope with that? I just left him to deal

:34:31.:34:37.

with Halladay he could. He's the kind of guy, everything thrown at

:34:38.:34:42.

him, it is fuel on the fire. For the children I felt sorry for them, the

:34:43.:34:46.

eldest was starting big school and he would come off the bus absolutely

:34:47.:34:50.

heartbroken because they were chanting Radford out and your dad is

:34:51.:34:54.

going to get sacked. It does go full circle and he's got over those hard

:34:55.:34:59.

times and now he can go to school and say look what my dad has done

:35:00.:35:05.

kind of thing. What would it mean to knock it off a second time? As a

:35:06.:35:09.

group and aside, we would go down in history and that is something you

:35:10.:35:13.

only get so many opportunities to do within your career. I hope it's a

:35:14.:35:17.

spectacle. If we turn up we are as good as anyone in the competition. I

:35:18.:35:21.

am fully aware of that, the players are fully aware of that, we just

:35:22.:35:25.

have to make sure that in any form of knockout rugby it's about who

:35:26.:35:28.

turns up on the day and who takes their opportunities. He is really

:35:29.:35:34.

boring. LAUGHTER

:35:35.:35:37.

If you win you might get a glass of wine and a bit of a conversation? We

:35:38.:35:43.

might even get to it pot of tea, might even make a personal

:35:44.:35:47.

appearance. And as well as welcoming us into his

:35:48.:35:51.

house, Lee Radford is also going to wear our player microphone today so

:35:52.:35:57.

we can hear his thoughts over the course of the 80 minutes. I thought

:35:58.:36:03.

in that interview, Brian, one been testing things was how his wife and

:36:04.:36:06.

his children had reacted to when he was under pressure with Radford out,

:36:07.:36:11.

he can deal it and use it to fire him and the players up -- one of the

:36:12.:36:17.

interesting things. When you are a fan, football, rugby league,

:36:18.:36:19.

whatever, it is about community and you love having one of us as your

:36:20.:36:23.

manager and your players and yet there is a price to pay for that if

:36:24.:36:26.

you are so ingrained in the community as Lee Radford is.

:36:27.:36:32.

Absolutely, he is a Hull boy through and through and the extra scrutiny

:36:33.:36:35.

that goes with that, going for a pint of milk at the local shop, the

:36:36.:36:38.

shopkeeper asks what you were doing at the weekend, his parents and

:36:39.:36:42.

family will go to the game every week, the scrutiny, not only from

:36:43.:36:46.

the board of directors and fans, everywhere he goes he will not get a

:36:47.:36:50.

rest from the opinions. It is a high profile job in Super League and he

:36:51.:36:54.

has done any credible job. When I played with him at Bradford ten

:36:55.:36:58.

years ago he was coaching at an amateur level already and it is

:36:59.:37:01.

fantastic how he has turned the club around, brought them their first

:37:02.:37:04.

silverware at Wembley, the reason why I think most fans were having a

:37:05.:37:09.

go at his kids is because there would not dare to say anything to

:37:10.:37:13.

lead himself. He has broad shoulders but in a position of responsibility

:37:14.:37:16.

scrutiny and pressure comes but Lee Radford has shown he can deal with

:37:17.:37:20.

that. Any coach or a person in a position where that many people are

:37:21.:37:24.

looking at you, you must accept criticism and praise in the same

:37:25.:37:28.

breath because that's sport, it's about criticism and praise in equal

:37:29.:37:32.

measure and he, more than anyone, understands that. And you understand

:37:33.:37:36.

it when you are in the sport but it's unfair on your family but that

:37:37.:37:40.

comes with the territory? Absolutely, we had a fantastic

:37:41.:37:43.

reflection from Paula, they have their coping mechanisms, she doesn't

:37:44.:37:47.

go to a lot of games, she leaves it to leak because if you let it affect

:37:48.:37:51.

you too much it will affect your coaching performance and he is very

:37:52.:37:56.

strong, as Jamie said -- leave it to Lee every player and coach has to

:37:57.:38:00.

cope with being in the spotlight. I think it is different, it is all

:38:01.:38:07.

right justifying the coach's family receiving abuse when the side is not

:38:08.:38:10.

going well but I don't think that should be part of the territory, if

:38:11.:38:14.

the fan has a problem it should be the coach they deal with, not with

:38:15.:38:18.

the family, the wife and children. That's life, isn't it? But that

:38:19.:38:22.

doesn't make it right. It is not right or wrong but it happens and we

:38:23.:38:25.

have all probably been victims of it and seen it and it's not right. But

:38:26.:38:29.

Lee Radford has a fantastic tool set and able to deal with it. Let's find

:38:30.:38:35.

out how Hull will play this afternoon, Robbie as their game

:38:36.:38:37.

plan. One of the big advantages for the

:38:38.:38:40.

Hull FC team must be the size of their pack, they have a few stone on

:38:41.:38:43.

the opposition but the real advantage has to be with the outside

:38:44.:38:50.

backs, Carlos Tuimavave, Talanoa, Fonua, Griffin, they are the size of

:38:51.:38:55.

front row players and explosive like them, they break of the opposition's

:38:56.:38:59.

defensive line and keep them on the back foot and it is relentless, five

:39:00.:39:03.

tackles against forwards. These are the big boys of the game and the

:39:04.:39:07.

guys that keep you under a world of pressure. When they do their job

:39:08.:39:12.

properly you end up having the half-backs being able to deliver

:39:13.:39:17.

their ability and their structure in time and space on the field, and

:39:18.:39:21.

none other than this guy, Marc Sneyd, to do just that. I will see

:39:22.:39:25.

if I can grab him as he is practising kicks. Hours preparation

:39:26.:39:30.

gone this week? It has been awesome, fairly light, I suppose, but we need

:39:31.:39:34.

as much energy as we can commit is boiling hot down here again. We seem

:39:35.:39:39.

to be prepared pretty well. Does kicking become even more important

:39:40.:39:42.

when the conditions are like so? Probably. We prefer position on the

:39:43.:39:47.

pitch and hopefully keeping possession as best we can as well.

:39:48.:39:53.

Yes, it probably does. The very best of luck.

:39:54.:39:56.

STUDIO: We are going to stay Prichard and bring in Tanya Arnold

:39:57.:39:59.

who has breaking news as regards the teams. Young Tom Davis on the wing

:40:00.:40:05.

is out, he has had a recurrence of the ankle injury that kept him out

:40:06.:40:08.

of the last couple of weeks. Marshall comes in for Wigan. He's

:40:09.:40:11.

been scoring tries for fun this year and made the wing position this

:40:12.:40:19.

season his own many times. Marshall in four Tom Davis. You've got a feel

:40:20.:40:23.

for Tom Davis, haven't you? Absolutely. Marshall is a pretty

:40:24.:40:29.

decent replacement, he can score a try, he has scored some sensational

:40:30.:40:34.

efforts this season but you clearly feel for Tom Davis. Marshall is a

:40:35.:40:37.

strong ball-carrier, so it is like for like, great to have that depth

:40:38.:40:43.

in the squad. We have focused on Hull, let's focus on Wigan who are

:40:44.:40:46.

trying to dethrone the cup holders, they invited George Riley to their

:40:47.:40:49.

hotel yesterday for a big team breakfast.

:40:50.:40:54.

Wembley week is a week like no other really for a rugby league player.

:40:55.:40:59.

You get to stay in places like this for a start which is nice and Wigan

:41:00.:41:03.

have been kind enough to invite me along for breakfast. When we talk

:41:04.:41:07.

about the Wembley week, staying in places like this. It is a bit flash.

:41:08.:41:15.

It is, look at these flip-flops, I will take them home, along with a

:41:16.:41:20.

few other things! As captain, as the experienced man, do you have to tell

:41:21.:41:23.

the players how they need to save it because this type of thing doesn't

:41:24.:41:27.

come around all the time? I was involved in finals for a long time

:41:28.:41:30.

and then there was a big gap between playing in any and winning any. For

:41:31.:41:35.

a lot of the boys this will be the first one but it helps a big chunk

:41:36.:41:39.

have had the experience and that will go a long way to calming the

:41:40.:41:43.

nerves. How much of a buzz do you still get from occasions like this,

:41:44.:41:47.

Sam? Massive buzz, there is no bigger stage than playing at

:41:48.:41:51.

Wembley. Whether it is the first final, or for people who have been

:41:52.:41:57.

in a massive number of them you never lose the buzz of playing on a

:41:58.:42:03.

big stage. 2011, my first Challenge Cup, looking back I didn't enjoy the

:42:04.:42:06.

week I was back nervous, it gets easier the more you do it and I've

:42:07.:42:10.

been able to enjoy it from the minute we played Salford last Friday

:42:11.:42:12.

I've been looking forward to getting down here. It is different and you

:42:13.:42:17.

can do as much as you can to help the young lads and tell them to

:42:18.:42:20.

relax and get excited about it but everyone has their own way of

:42:21.:42:24.

dealing with it. The players all room together and hopefully I will

:42:25.:42:27.

find a couple in here now, I'm a little concerned about what we are

:42:28.:42:30.

going to walk into. I will see if they are in. Dare we?

:42:31.:42:41.

CHUCKLES This is awkward. You have made

:42:42.:42:44.

yourself at home. Settling in together. I am feeding him grapes,

:42:45.:42:51.

like we usually do. Are all of the beds this close together? Not

:42:52.:42:56.

usually. We are using the excuse of somebody will fall in the gap. How

:42:57.:43:01.

much of an inspiration has Tony Clubb been? He had a kidney removed

:43:02.:43:06.

and here he is on the eve of a cup final. The boys felt for him when he

:43:07.:43:09.

went through that tough time with the kidney. At one point we were

:43:10.:43:13.

fingers crossed he would come through it and he has done. I had

:43:14.:43:17.

surgery on my spine, in between that I lost my dad, and two days later I

:43:18.:43:23.

got told I was having my kidney taken at. It has been a tough year.

:43:24.:43:26.

How on earth have you been able to take that in your stride? My wife

:43:27.:43:31.

was fantastic and so were my kids, and just being here with these men,

:43:32.:43:35.

they have really looked after me. Shaun Wane was fantastic.

:43:36.:43:39.

Surrounding myself with good people. Take us into the tunnel, you are

:43:40.:43:43.

waiting, a few minutes to go, can you enjoy it? I think you can, so

:43:44.:43:47.

many teams are trying to do what we're doing and we have an

:43:48.:43:49.

opportunity and if you don't enjoy it you are missing out on something.

:43:50.:43:55.

This has stoked the hunger for the boys and it disappeared to try and

:43:56.:44:00.

get our hands on. One of the beauties of the Challenge

:44:01.:44:04.

Cup final is that you get people watching, fingers crossed, who have

:44:05.:44:07.

not watched rugby league before and they might be looking for a team to

:44:08.:44:11.

support today. They might be going for Hull on the basis of our great

:44:12.:44:15.

Lee Radford and his wife were at home but having seen that they might

:44:16.:44:19.

take Wigan simply for the human interest story of Tony Clubb. You

:44:20.:44:23.

can't underestimate how difficult a time Tony Clubb has been through. I

:44:24.:44:28.

played through losing my dad from cancer but not through having a

:44:29.:44:32.

kidney operation and an operation on my spine. It is going to be a very

:44:33.:44:39.

tough time for him today. If he can come through and play well he

:44:40.:44:43.

deserves a medal as much as anybody on the field. Jamie, thank you. We

:44:44.:44:47.

are going back picture to get the Wigan game plan from Robbie. The key

:44:48.:44:51.

to this Wigan's side success in the recent past has got to be in the way

:44:52.:44:54.

they have been able to control the speed of the play-the-ball and the

:44:55.:44:57.

ruck which comes down to the big boys. Nuuausala. O'Loughlin. The big

:44:58.:45:05.

Strong boys in the middle of the park dictate how quickly the

:45:06.:45:09.

opposition can play-the-ball. They will need to do that against a

:45:10.:45:14.

massive Hull FC side. If they do it right and slow the play-the-ball

:45:15.:45:17.

down when they want to and they are able to release the ball to the key

:45:18.:45:20.

playmakers like George and Lulu like they will be able to release this

:45:21.:45:25.

guy, Sam Tomkins. I will have a quick word with Sam. You are one of

:45:26.:45:29.

the more experienced players in the side, lots of debutants in the

:45:30.:45:37.

Challenge Cup final. Any words of influence? Yes, we spoke about it

:45:38.:45:40.

all week, everybody at the club knows the importance, although we

:45:41.:45:42.

have lots of young lads, they have experienced Grand Finals, for a few

:45:43.:45:45.

of them. A few lads have not been honest age this big that they are

:45:46.:45:47.

prepared well. The very best of luck. Jon Wilkin, every player

:45:48.:45:53.

evolves over the cause of his career and Sam Tomkins will be no

:45:54.:45:56.

different. But has he balled over the course of this season as well? I

:45:57.:46:01.

think so. For those who don't know Sam had a horrific lower limb injury

:46:02.:46:05.

at the start of the year and when we look back at the start of Sam's

:46:06.:46:10.

career and the iconic drive from the 2011 Challenge Cup final, Sam's

:46:11.:46:16.

elusive running style, his balance, and his running typified him as a

:46:17.:46:20.

player and made him such a dangerous player. He created opportunities

:46:21.:46:24.

with his running game. He has had to adapt how he plays. That being said,

:46:25.:46:27.

recently we have seen the elusive running style back, great footwork

:46:28.:46:34.

here against Hull to slip over in what was a wet cup final. Sam's

:46:35.:46:39.

threat as he can score points, creates chances, and in terms of the

:46:40.:46:42.

direction of the team, takes pressure off George Williams who

:46:43.:46:47.

bears a heavy load. He is a very smart kid, Sam. He will put his head

:46:48.:46:52.

in where it hurts, you can see where he broke the line. He brings

:46:53.:46:56.

composure to this Wigan side, and experience, and having spoken to him

:46:57.:47:00.

during the week, he feels his injury is patting, he is training with the

:47:01.:47:05.

team all the time and he is leg is 100% and he can concentrate on his

:47:06.:47:09.

plate. He's been Wigan's standout player and he comes in full of form

:47:10.:47:13.

with the key parts of the Wigan team starting to click and it's no

:47:14.:47:16.

coincidence Sam Tomkins is coming back to his best and Wigan have won

:47:17.:47:21.

games recently. I will add one name to the mix, Sean O'Loughlin, John

:47:22.:47:26.

has already alluded to the fact that Tuimavave and Griffin, the centres

:47:27.:47:30.

for Hull will try and close the play down for Wigan but O'Loughlin has a

:47:31.:47:33.

pass over the top that might expose that strategy. We are going to hear

:47:34.:47:37.

from both coaches who have been talking to Tanya.

:47:38.:47:43.

A chance to retain the trophy and make history, how big a motivation

:47:44.:47:46.

is that? The motivating factor is winning the Challenge Cup in itself,

:47:47.:47:51.

that is huge for us as a group. That is what we strive towards all

:47:52.:47:54.

season, it is what we set out to achieve at the beginning of the

:47:55.:47:58.

season, so if we can do that it would be farm in all. Some people

:47:59.:48:01.

are saying Wigan are favourites. I don't know, it is irrelevant to me,

:48:02.:48:07.

it is who turns up and who takes opportunities on the day. There is

:48:08.:48:09.

not a great deal between the sides in terms of quality. Our preparation

:48:10.:48:14.

has gone really well. I don't know how it has gone for Wigan but what I

:48:15.:48:19.

can tell you is we will come to the party. Is Marc Sneyd P today?

:48:20.:48:24.

Obviously for us hugely, his kicking game is influential and Kelly, he is

:48:25.:48:29.

renowned for drifting out of the game for 20 minutes and coming up

:48:30.:48:34.

with three sucker punches, he has that X factor and hopefully we will

:48:35.:48:38.

see that today. People cannot split the two of you. What will be the key

:48:39.:48:42.

for you to get over the line? Have to make sure we do our

:48:43.:48:48.

one-on-one is an win them, they are bigger than us, we have to be fit

:48:49.:48:51.

and strong and our technique has to be fact that in contact and if we do

:48:52.:48:55.

that we have a good chance today. Sam Tomkins is getting back to his

:48:56.:48:59.

best. How has his role in the team changed since coming back? To be

:49:00.:49:04.

honest, he is more mature, he will always have that competitive spirit

:49:05.:49:07.

but he is a winner, he wants to win, he is very much like myself. We just

:49:08.:49:13.

want to win, we're not really bothered about the performers, we

:49:14.:49:16.

just want to win the game, and the older Sam gets the more mature he

:49:17.:49:20.

gets and we are seeing the best of him now, the last few weeks he's

:49:21.:49:25.

been outstanding. Good luck today. STUDIO: Final moments in the Wigan

:49:26.:49:31.

dressing room, the mood lighting is still there on each locker as they

:49:32.:49:35.

go through their final preparations and similarly in the Hull dressing

:49:36.:49:41.

room as well. We can see what they are doing. The final handshakes

:49:42.:49:46.

amongst the various team members. Let's talk about Hull's kicking game

:49:47.:49:49.

and Marc Sneyd in particular and what you expect from him today and

:49:50.:49:54.

what he is going to have to do. Firstly with Marc Sneyd he must

:49:55.:49:58.

expect Wigan to attack him. He is a smart kid and puts himself in

:49:59.:50:01.

positions where it will be difficult for Wigan to put him under pressure.

:50:02.:50:06.

In big moments in big games he has come up with smart kicks, 40-20 in

:50:07.:50:11.

the Challenge Cup final, big kicks that can change the course of the

:50:12.:50:14.

game. Wigan will try and blame on the deck and hit him almost late,

:50:15.:50:19.

put him under pressure but he is smart and it is hard to get him. I

:50:20.:50:23.

think it is key for Wigan's start that they negate Marc Sneyd,

:50:24.:50:28.

McIlorum, the number nine for Wigan, we will see him haring after him so

:50:29.:50:32.

he cannot get kicks like this away and Hull cannot score tries. Lee

:50:33.:50:38.

Radford Dr Butt opportunities, Marc Sneyd's game creates opportunities

:50:39.:50:41.

they must take. Sneed had too much time against Leeds and he picked out

:50:42.:50:45.

kicks, put Tom Briscoe under pressure, but he is a fantastic

:50:46.:50:50.

asset for the Hull side. He is a cute cookie and knows how not to get

:50:51.:50:53.

run down and he gives himself an extra two or three metres, that's

:50:54.:50:57.

the key to success, they will have to be some serious pressure from the

:50:58.:51:00.

likes of McIlorum and Leuluai from the line. It is non-negotiable for

:51:01.:51:05.

Wigan because Warrington in the first half of the final last year

:51:06.:51:10.

put pressure on him and in the second half he got on with it and

:51:11.:51:15.

kicked away and scored tries all day.

:51:16.:51:18.

We are moments away from the start of the 2017 Challenge Cup final.

:51:19.:51:20.

More great memories, please. And he scores! The excitement!

:51:21.:51:41.

Prescott is over! He is trying to make space. He goes on the outside.

:51:42.:51:50.

That is one sensational try. Superb! Joel Tomkins back to the

:51:51.:52:12.

middle, sidesteps between two, it is one of the great Wembley tries.

:52:13.:52:29.

Well, the scene is set. This is what Hull FC and Wigan are playing for,

:52:30.:52:40.

that is the rugby league Challenge Cup. It is being carried by Adam

:52:41.:52:48.

Clinton from the RAF, who also has alongside him a Sergeant from the

:52:49.:52:52.

army and a Lieutenant from the Royal Navy. The first final was in 1897

:52:53.:53:04.

and we are nearly ready to go in 2017. Now for the traditional

:53:05.:53:12.

Challenge Cup final hymn, Abide With Me, sung by Kathleen Greene.

:53:13.:54:02.

They are having problems at the moment with the PA at Wembley

:54:03.:54:10.

Stadium. Kathleen Greene, who won this competition to sing Abide With

:54:11.:54:20.

Me is waiting with all her helpers. Both sets of fans are trying to help

:54:21.:54:24.

her out by keeping the atmosphere going as she waits nervously pulse

:54:25.:54:28.

of the Wigan fans at one end and the Hull fans below us here at Wembley

:54:29.:54:32.

Stadium are chanting as well. The teams will be waiting in the tunnel,

:54:33.:54:36.

and it doesn't really help anyone, Jon Wilkin. Not at all, it will not

:54:37.:54:42.

affect these players one little bit, it's a huge moment for these guys,

:54:43.:54:45.

and they have an opportunity to be part of the history of the game, to

:54:46.:54:50.

be part of the fabric of our game, to be pictured and photographed and

:54:51.:54:53.

the video made from today's game will be used in years to come and

:54:54.:54:56.

this is their opportunity and right now they are not bothered about

:54:57.:55:00.

whether the PA system is working or not, they want to get out there.

:55:01.:55:02.

Look at that steely focus. # The darkness deepens

:55:03.:55:06.

Lord, with me abide # When other helpers fail

:55:07.:55:13.

and comforts flee # Help of the helpless

:55:14.:55:24.

O abide with me # Hold thou Thy cross

:55:25.:55:41.

Before my closing eyes # Shine through the gloom

:55:42.:55:50.

And point me to the skies # Heaven's morning breaks

:55:51.:56:00.

and Earth's vain shadows flee # In life, in death

:56:01.:56:14.

O Lord, abide with me. # She is 23 years old. She won a

:56:15.:56:41.

competition to sing Abide With Me in front of 70,000 people at Wembley

:56:42.:56:46.

Stadium and she then had to deal with that utter shambles beforehand

:56:47.:56:51.

and she deserves absolute credit from everyone in here and everybody

:56:52.:56:56.

watching, because she has been let down by a system and operators who

:56:57.:57:03.

should ought to know better. She deserves an awful lot of credit.

:57:04.:57:08.

Well done, Kathleen Greene, for that and well done everybody in the

:57:09.:57:11.

stadium for helping her through it too with no backing track. The

:57:12.:57:16.

players have been waiting patiently. They are ready to go. This is it,

:57:17.:57:21.

the 2017 Challenge Cup final. We hope for a cracker, let's John

:57:22.:57:23.

Howell, dated Dave Woods. It's a big noise, big moments,

:57:24.:58:01.

these, so much history, so much tradition, so much at stake in the

:58:02.:58:08.

Wembley Sunshine. If 34 players that they perform as well as Kathleen

:58:09.:58:11.

Greene has just performed, we are going to have a classic. Wembley

enthusiastically as he walked out with the Wigan owner Ian Lenagan,

:58:55.:58:59.

Jack Johnson who is fighting muscular dystrophy, the son of the

punch line in about a nine-year-old being better than the real thing.

That would show some disrespect, wouldn't it? Lee Radford. Some words

he stayed faithful with his coach Lee Radford, and boy, is that faith

being repaid in such great measure. Mark Minichiello, who, along with

Gareth Ellis, could yet be the oldest ever Lance Todd Trophy

winner. That special prize has been awarded every year since 1946. What

part might Albert Kelly play in his first final four Hull FC, but his

:01:56.:01:58.

Sneyd. A lot of talk about 1985 in the

:01:59.:02:15.

build-up. Are we going to see another classic here today? Well,

:02:16.:02:20.

that was 32 years ago. There's a couple of stars, Lee crooks, Garry

:02:21.:02:24.

Schofield, who was controversially left on the bench and came on late

:02:25.:02:29.

and Shaun Edwards, who was 18 years old back in 1985, scored a try, his

:02:30.:02:36.

second Wembley final that year, of course, having played as a

:02:37.:02:39.

17-year-old the year before when Wigan played Widnes. Ladies and

:02:40.:02:46.

gentlemen, head of kick-off, we ask you please do stand for the national

:02:47.:02:48.

anthem, led by Kathleen green! # God save our gracious Queen

:03:52.:03:56.

handed out the shirts to the Wigan players in the build-up to this

game. It looks good, doesn't it? This is

:03:59.:04:12.

the way they line up today, the two Giants four Hull underlings, Mahe

runs, Josh Griffin playing in his first cup final today, and

:04:20.:04:22.

Tuimavave, one of many who was involved last year, Albert Kelly and

:04:23.:04:26.

Marc Sneyd, what an pairing they might be for the Black and Whites

:04:27.:04:30.

today. Up front, the big fella, Scott Taylor and Liam Watts, Danny

:04:31.:04:34.

Houghton, who will be remembered for all time for tackle 52, the

:04:35.:04:39.

match-winning tackle late in lusty's final, said Amana, Gareth Ellis and

:04:40.:04:42.

Mark Minichiello, Ellis playing in his last Challenge Cup final,

:04:43.:04:45.

retires at the end of the, Jake Connor and Josh Bowden on the bench,

:04:46.:04:49.

Jake Connor will come on and add some briskness in the middle, Danny

:04:50.:04:54.

Washbrook and Chris Green, a couple of the other forwards who will be

:04:55.:04:58.

coming on for Hull at some stage. Wigan lining up like this, Sam

:04:59.:05:01.

Tomkins at full-back, what a story we might have, should Liam Marshall

:05:02.:05:06.

prove to be a matchwinner today, given his late inclusion, 30 minutes

:05:07.:05:10.

before kick-off Tommy was named. Anthony Gelling the Joker, and

:05:11.:05:15.

Oliver Gildart in the centres, the half-backs for Wigan, again

:05:16.:05:17.

instrumental, as they whiz, Williams and Leuluai, Thomas Leuluai stepping

:05:18.:05:22.

in his dad's footsteps, after James Bay 32 years ago, Nuuausala and Tony

:05:23.:05:27.

Clubb upfront, Michael McIlorum in the middle, and the back three, Liam

:05:28.:05:32.

Farrell, John Bateman and Sean O'Loughlin, again, who has Jurisic,

:05:33.:05:36.

familial pedigree when it comes to the Challenge Cup. Willie Isa and

:05:37.:05:40.

Ryan Sutton, two of those on the bench, as are Taulima Tautai and Sam

:05:41.:05:48.

Powell. Wembley is growing impatient. They want to get on with

:05:49.:05:52.

it. Phil Bentham is the referee today. Chris Kendall and Jack Smith

:05:53.:05:56.

the touch judges. James Child is in the truck as the video referee,

:05:57.:06:05.

should he be required. We are ready. We are ready. WHISTLE

:06:06.:06:11.

Joe Burgess puts Boerrigter ball, hardly a breath of air inside this

:06:12.:06:16.

great stadium. Very little between these two great sides. The forward

:06:17.:06:22.

battle is going to be massive. The dazzle of the back is going to be

:06:23.:06:27.

imported. How is this going to go? That's here from the commentary team

:06:28.:06:31.

for the first time, Jonathan Davies and John Kear. Today is the day when

:06:32.:06:36.

fairy tales become reality and Wigan straightaway putting a marker of

:06:37.:06:42.

intense down. This big, physical Hull pack, receiving three or four

:06:43.:06:46.

men in a tackle each time. I think it will be about completing their

:06:47.:06:51.

sets and maybe getting repeat sets of six but as it is, very warm. Not

:06:52.:06:57.

a breath of wind down there so it will be important when they have got

:06:58.:07:03.

the ball. I think Wigan will be reasonably content with the way this

:07:04.:07:06.

set has gone so far because they have restricted Hull's go forward,

:07:07.:07:11.

Marc Sneyd's first kick of the day and Joe Burgess will get his first

:07:12.:07:15.

touch of the ball in the arms and Wigan start their set, notably, five

:07:16.:07:20.

metres away from the halfway line. They will be delighted with that

:07:21.:07:25.

first defensive set, Wigan. They restricted the yardage, put pressure

:07:26.:07:27.

on the kicker, which allowed them to field the kick on the full, so the

:07:28.:07:31.

first bit of the arm wrestle goes slightly to the Cherry and Whites.

:07:32.:07:37.

Liam Marshall takes it in, a reminder, Tom Davies,

:07:38.:07:39.

heartbreakingly for him, was ruled out half an hour before kick-off

:07:40.:07:44.

because of an ankle injury, so Liam Marshall, who wears number 35, comes

:07:45.:07:53.

in. O'Loughlin taking it in. This is the sixth, so Williams puts it high.

:07:54.:07:57.

Mahe Fonua is back in his own in-goal area and that is significant

:07:58.:08:01.

because catching it there gives Hull a tap on the 20 metre mark and seven

:08:02.:08:06.

tackle from here. They won't be happy with that kick, a bit too far,

:08:07.:08:12.

it is an easy tap and go for Hull. They invested all the energy and

:08:13.:08:15.

restricted the go forward and they have really let them off the hook,

:08:16.:08:19.

receiving that kick in the in-goal area, the first tackle is a zero

:08:20.:08:24.

tackle, and in the six committed and this is the result. A great run out

:08:25.:08:29.

of dummy half by Jamie Shaul and a quick play the ball as got Josh

:08:30.:08:33.

Griffin travelling forward. Hull, moving within striking range, with

:08:34.:08:39.

tackles in the bag as well. Wigan, looking to restrict. Danny Houghton.

:08:40.:08:50.

Shifting it to Albert Kelly with his little, dancing steps and half and

:08:51.:08:54.

off-load but he can't get it away. Here's Danny Houghton, the last

:08:55.:08:58.

tackle in the set. The kit is from Marc Sneyd into the in-goal area, he

:08:59.:09:03.

has overcooked it. Very safe take by Anthony Gelling and it is Wigan's

:09:04.:09:08.

turn to get the tap back on the 20 and the extra tackle and here is

:09:09.:09:11.

Liam Marshall, looking to get on the outside and dodging back again. It

:09:12.:09:15.

shows how important is the kicking at the end of the set because it

:09:16.:09:19.

gave Hull the platform and the back three of Jamie Shaul, Mahe Fonua and

:09:20.:09:24.

Talanoa, brilliant running the ball, giving a platform for the forwards

:09:25.:09:27.

and there was 100 metres that they gained, there. Do you put that down

:09:28.:09:34.

to drooling, the extra couple of yards on the kicks? Root two poor

:09:35.:09:38.

finishes to the sets from both teams and that will be one area of the

:09:39.:09:43.

game the coaches will want to fix pretty imminently. On days like

:09:44.:09:46.

this, the extra tackle means so much. Nuuausala trying to get to his

:09:47.:09:54.

knees to play the ball as quickly as possible. Back to Thomas Leuluai who

:09:55.:09:59.

puts a kick over the top. Interesting bounce! Back on the

:10:00.:10:03.

inside and Bateman, John Bateman is over for the game's opening try,

:10:04.:10:08.

with less than four minutes played. That was a kick that had some intent

:10:09.:10:13.

to it and had the skill attached, too. Very clever, they kicked early

:10:14.:10:18.

in the tackle count, back on the fourth tackle, the back three had

:10:19.:10:21.

not got back, the ball had bounced and as we all know, you should not

:10:22.:10:32.

allow the ball to bounce. The bounce favoured Wigan and Bateman scores. I

:10:33.:10:34.

am with you, that was an absolutely superb kick from Thomas Leuluai but

:10:35.:10:37.

the kit is only as good as the chase and the wing man is up there, get

:10:38.:10:41.

behind, Talanoa, look at the chase, the bounce was favourable to them

:10:42.:10:44.

but they took full advantage, Anthony Gelling I believe who

:10:45.:10:48.

fielded the kick. You can see the ball bounces, it sets up as Gelling

:10:49.:10:54.

receives it and Bateman is chasing enthusiastically to cross the try

:10:55.:10:57.

line. What a tremendous kick from Leuluai and that is why you should

:10:58.:11:02.

not allow a rugby league ball to bounce if possible. What was their

:11:03.:11:08.

intention, to put backspin on it, from Leuluai? I don't think so, it

:11:09.:11:11.

was an early kick because he saw the back three had not gone back, the

:11:12.:11:14.

winners had not dropped back and there was space and once the ball

:11:15.:11:17.

hits the ground, it is anybody's is where it will go and this time, it

:11:18.:11:23.

favoured Wigan. Williams not taking much time with the kick for goal.

:11:24.:11:28.

Wigan already up and running, leading 6-0. If ever there was a

:11:29.:11:35.

demonstration of the importance of the kicking game, this is it, two

:11:36.:11:40.

poor kicks by both sides, one each, allowed seven tackles and that was

:11:41.:11:47.

perfect, it turns Talanoa, it made sure there was a chance to get there

:11:48.:11:51.

and the chase reaped its own reward. What a great try. Wigan fans of a

:11:52.:11:56.

certain vintage will remember a guy called Markkanen. I remember him. He

:11:57.:12:01.

was involved in 1984 when Wigan went to Wembley and he had the ability to

:12:02.:12:04.

put backspin on the ball like we saw from Leuluai, there. I wonder

:12:05.:12:08.

whether Leuluai has been working on it was too Luck anyway, Gildart. I'm

:12:09.:12:17.

pretty certain... Lee Radford, sitting back in his chair. He has

:12:18.:12:23.

got a microphone on today so hopefully we will be hearing the

:12:24.:12:26.

kind of behind the scenes in motion from the coach at half-time at full

:12:27.:12:33.

time as well. Catch it! Catch it! They are covering the sidelines this

:12:34.:12:39.

time, the Hull back two, Tomkins cleverly dissecting them and putting

:12:40.:12:43.

the ball to the posts, pulling it up short, great kick from Tomkins. Mahe

:12:44.:12:48.

Fonua. What a big hit but he responded in kind and Michael

:12:49.:12:52.

McIlorum ended up flat on his back. I tell you what, it won't bother

:12:53.:12:56.

Michael McIlorum one iota because if he gets down, he get up again. A bit

:12:57.:13:04.

of a push, he was off-balance. Mahe Fonua is leaving at the end of this

:13:05.:13:09.

year, to join the west Tigers, cutting his stay in Hull short for

:13:10.:13:13.

family reasons. He seems to be heartbroken at having to leave. This

:13:14.:13:17.

Wigan side have done some work in the tackle area this week.

:13:18.:13:21.

Committing numbers and really working technically very well to

:13:22.:13:27.

slow the Hull play the ball down. The last, and back it comes for Marc

:13:28.:13:32.

Sneyd. A spin on that which makes it a little difficult for Tomkins, but

:13:33.:13:35.

safely pouched and forward comes Burgess. That will not trouble

:13:36.:13:41.

Tomkins. He kicked from far out on the wing and he will be happy with

:13:42.:13:44.

that. He will need an option because as the boys said in the studio, they

:13:45.:13:50.

will close down Snape so they will need a kicking option. Wigan have

:13:51.:13:55.

got Tomkins and Leuluai. Better kicking option for them. -- will

:13:56.:13:57.

close down Marc Sneyd. Gelling. So, the last play again on

:13:58.:14:16.

the set. Williams will put the kick high. Mahe Fonua underneath it and

:14:17.:14:20.

Burgess just being shepherded away cleverly by Josh Griffin, just to

:14:21.:14:24.

make his team-mate's job a bit easier and as a result, Jamie Shaul

:14:25.:14:31.

can try to bring it out. The Hull fans behind the end that Hull are

:14:32.:14:32.

defending in the first half. Danny Houghton. A little bit of a

:14:33.:14:47.

struggle for Seeker Manu. But good contact from Williams, there. Really

:14:48.:14:50.

bent his back and hit with the shoulder. Liam Watts, driving it in.

:14:51.:14:59.

Nine away from the halfway line. Still a couple of tackles in the

:15:00.:15:02.

set, Hull, making heavy weather of it at the moment. Marc Sneyd

:15:03.:15:06.

threatening to kick but it goes to Jamie Shaul and now to Tuimavave,

:15:07.:15:11.

who is a classy player. The last play again, Hull still 40 away. Marc

:15:12.:15:16.

Sneyd has time to run into the pocket and then just pumping the

:15:17.:15:19.

kick downfield and the chase is on from Kelly but Tomkins have it

:15:20.:15:24.

covered. -- has it covered. Picks up off the bounce and looks to see what

:15:25.:15:27.

is available but a good chase from the rest of the Hull defenders. Well

:15:28.:15:32.

dealt with by Wigan but Hull had a bit of success, shifting the ball to

:15:33.:15:36.

the edge and it bought Marc Sneyd the time to put in the kick but

:15:37.:15:43.

pretty well defused by Sam Tomkins. Gildart, spinning forward, skidding

:15:44.:15:46.

in, Tomkins quickly into dummy half. Farrell to his left hand side and he

:15:47.:15:49.

cuts in as well. Wigan finds the halfway line. Nuuausala. The big

:15:50.:15:56.

difference is the speed of the play-the-ball. Wigan are trying be

:15:57.:16:00.

quick play the ball, getting very good feed position for an easier

:16:01.:16:05.

kick for the half-backs. Another end over end kick from Leuluai but it is

:16:06.:16:08.

not going to be allowed to bounce because Jamie Shaul is in position

:16:09.:16:12.

but another great chase by Wigan. Look where they are. Hull starting

:16:13.:16:17.

deep inside their own half, they want one of the big men, one of

:16:18.:16:21.

their wingers, to try to give them a lift. It is a great tactic from

:16:22.:16:31.

Shaun Wane and the Cherry and Whites, the Wigan Warriors because

:16:32.:16:33.

they are turning this big Hull forward background, making them go

:16:34.:16:35.

the whole way back before they can get the ball forward. 40-2010 from

:16:36.:16:38.

Danny Houghton, well covered by Burgess. Takes it head height, clean

:16:39.:16:42.

as a whistle, runs back and look where Wigan are starting again, ten

:16:43.:16:45.

metres from the halfway line, they are winning the battle. They are and

:16:46.:16:49.

their line speed is very good, Wigan. That was frustration, taking

:16:50.:16:53.

very early in the tackle count, easily taken by the Wigan winger.

:16:54.:16:57.

But Wigan are investing lots of energy in restricting the go

:16:58.:17:00.

forward, a couple of the forwards were slow, back there, Tony Clubb

:17:01.:17:07.

and Connor but it is a good idea to restrict the go forward. And it's

:17:08.:17:11.

very warm down there so it will be draining of the afternoon goes on.

:17:12.:17:15.

Farrell did not play that properly. Was not on his feet. Easy penalty

:17:16.:17:21.

for the referee to get. Big lift for Hull. First penalty and good field

:17:22.:17:26.

position. What makes it even worse is that Liam Farrell is in

:17:27.:17:29.

possession of the ball. It is just sloppy. They have been really

:17:30.:17:34.

clinical and played attention -- paid attention to the detail of

:17:35.:17:38.

Wigan but that was sloppy and it has given Hull FC their first penalty

:17:39.:17:43.

about midfield. What can they make of it? Two balls on the field at the

:17:44.:17:46.

moment. Mahe Fonua taking one-off. Taylor. Just inside that Wigan half.

:17:47.:18:05.

Danny Houghton comes out and now Kelly has it. A little dummy shown

:18:06.:18:10.

but ankles taken away by Williams. Danny Houghton, across the field.

:18:11.:18:15.

Scott Taylor, being urged forward by the Hull bands. I think they wanted

:18:16.:18:18.

a bit more directness from the big fellows. -- Hull fans. A little step

:18:19.:18:28.

by Marc Sneyd and any acceleration but Bateman is all over him. Good

:18:29.:18:32.

start to the game for Bateman, attack and defence. Minichiello

:18:33.:18:35.

going left. Brought back towards the middle. Liam Watts get is an free,

:18:36.:18:44.

Liam Watts steps on the inside! Tries to power over, very close.

:18:45.:18:51.

Very good. Held up just short. Kelly steps back inside, still gets it

:18:52.:18:55.

away. Marc Sneyd with a kick to the corner. The big leap, a huge leap by

:18:56.:19:05.

Talanoa! He claims the try, celebrates the try, and Hull with

:19:06.:19:09.

their first attacking opportunity are right back in the game. They did

:19:10.:19:14.

not close down Marc Sneyd and that was a precise kick, on the button.

:19:15.:19:19.

With this guy running towards it, he has got such a height advantage over

:19:20.:19:25.

his winger, Marshall. Just watch it, out of the back door and a perfect

:19:26.:19:29.

kick. Just watch, he gets the jump, he gets above Marshall, brilliant,

:19:30.:19:36.

brilliant try by Talanoa. Exceptional dry, that one. Beautiful

:19:37.:19:40.

kick from Marc Sneyd, he knows Talanoa is taller than Marshall,

:19:41.:19:43.

landing it on Marshall's head and that is a great shot of Talanoa

:19:44.:19:48.

claiming the ball. But all that, Jonathan, came off the back of the

:19:49.:19:52.

penalty from Liam Farrell when Wigan were in possession. A stupid play

:19:53.:19:56.

the ball by Farrell and that is the result. You will see a lot of that

:19:57.:20:01.

because he was so good in the air, Talanoa. He has got such a height

:20:02.:20:08.

advantage. Over his opposite number. And it was a bit of an unstructured

:20:09.:20:12.

kick, with the off-load from Kelly before Marc Sneyd put in the kick.

:20:13.:20:18.

Said they are taking their time with the kick, here. -- so they are.

:20:19.:20:29.

Marc Sneyd was talking to us during the week, talking about the pressure

:20:30.:20:34.

on the cake, and he said he loves it, he loves being the kicker,

:20:35.:20:39.

whether it is for goals or kicking out of hand, he just loves the

:20:40.:20:43.

responsibility and now he's got the responsibility of giving his side

:20:44.:20:50.

parity again. Terrific take by Talanoa, wasn't it? It is a strange

:20:51.:21:05.

kicking style, isn't it? Backwards. They will be chanting his name if he

:21:06.:21:09.

is successful with this and he is successful with this and it is all

:21:10.:21:16.

square at 6-6. Crucial time for Wigan, the next ten minutes, they

:21:17.:21:19.

need to do what they started at the beginning of the game, control the

:21:20.:21:22.

speed of the ruck. Hull have the wind in their sales and they will

:21:23.:21:28.

turn up the tempo. I think both teams have really started very well,

:21:29.:21:33.

you know. When we speak about how hot the day is, Hull have completed

:21:34.:21:38.

six sets out of six, and Wigan five out of six so they are paying

:21:39.:21:41.

attention to the detail, looking after the ball to conserve energy.

:21:42.:21:45.

But it also shows how important it is to maintain your discipline. That

:21:46.:21:49.

penalty was the first real-time Hull had a good ball set and they came

:21:50.:21:53.

away with the points. We have seen that in the early run to the

:21:54.:21:57.

Challenge Cup, the field position for the penalty, has resulted in

:21:58.:22:02.

many tries. Liam Watts, looking to bring it out but the defence is just

:22:03.:22:05.

as determined to keep him right there. Bateman, industrious again.

:22:06.:22:12.

Don't forget the red button forum follows us win the match has

:22:13.:22:19.

finished and you can get in touch on Twitter, UCB hashtag BBC R L. There

:22:20.:22:24.

is the spinning of the ball, and the Rugby World Cup begins on October

:22:25.:22:29.

27. But Hull have lost possession and a great chance for Wigan now.

:22:30.:22:36.

That is one the John Bateman. Yeah. Taylor is carrying the ball and

:22:37.:22:40.

Bateman gets right under it, it's with the shoulder and that is a

:22:41.:22:44.

forced error, rather than a sloppy one. That is a forced error and an

:22:45.:22:48.

important shot from Bateman on Taylor. Tremendous tackle technique.

:22:49.:22:54.

Hull need to be on their mettle, here. The referee has counted the

:22:55.:22:59.

men in the back and decided there are too many standing in the back

:23:00.:23:05.

line. Ellis taking his position in the big six. Williams. Tomkins.

:23:06.:23:12.

Waiting at dummy half, five tackles to come, they will drive it in, Tony

:23:13.:23:17.

Clubb, back in April having a kidney removed and here he is, playing in

:23:18.:23:21.

the Challenge Cup final in August. Nuuausala, spinning away. Put down.

:23:22.:23:26.

They wanted quickly and they get it quickly. Williamson on the left,

:23:27.:23:30.

Farrell has moved on his inside. Brushes away the first attempt of

:23:31.:23:35.

Liam Watts. Three more waiting. Michael McIlorum to Williams.

:23:36.:23:42.

Nuuausala. O'Loughlin. Leuluai. He dummies toward yelling, coming at

:23:43.:23:48.

pace, still going but repelled eventually. Just one yard away,

:23:49.:23:52.

Tomkins on the last play. Leuluai spinning it to Williams, right

:23:53.:23:57.

footed, dabbing it over, out goes the reaching arms of Mahe Fonua.

:23:58.:24:01.

That is a wonderful take by the big fellow on the wing and a good,

:24:02.:24:05.

clearing run is developing here, as Ellis pounding it forward, 25 yards

:24:06.:24:11.

out, and they get a penalty. Double bonus for Hull. Brilliant take

:24:12.:24:15.

again, what a take, competition between the winners, Mahe Fonua and

:24:16.:24:21.

Burgess goes up, brilliant take. I thought Wigan should have run the

:24:22.:24:24.

ball because Mahe Fonua should have held his nerve. He did not come into

:24:25.:24:29.

line -- up in the likeable when they shifted it, two buzzes, he held his

:24:30.:24:32.

nerve and stay deep and they should have gone through the hands and

:24:33.:24:36.

tried to Ribery 's -- to release Burgess against in with space and

:24:37.:24:39.

effort and to get a penalty on the back of that is a real bonus ball.

:24:40.:24:43.

Mahe Fonua grew up in the Aussie rules territory where taking that

:24:44.:24:46.

kind of catch came as a kind of second nature. An accidental rugby

:24:47.:24:52.

league player, if you like but what a rugby league player he has been in

:24:53.:24:57.

the last few years. Taylor. Five away from the halfway line. Danny

:24:58.:25:03.

Houghton. Inside two Ellis. Marc Sneyd with a dummy and any short,

:25:04.:25:09.

flat pass. Minichiello is a marked man.

:25:10.:25:17.

Kelly, we have seen glimpses from him so far and what about this

:25:18.:25:21.

fella, Seca Manu, who gets the ball away as well. Liam Watts maybe

:25:22.:25:26.

steals an extra yard as a result. Hull get a bit of meant, now. Kelly

:25:27.:25:30.

with the kick behind the winner, Burgess has to be sharp and has to

:25:31.:25:34.

go safety first to concede a drop out underneath the sticks. He had to

:25:35.:25:38.

do that, no doubt about that, Joe Burgess, it was the right option.

:25:39.:25:43.

They need to get oxygen in the lungs because they are tired but that was

:25:44.:25:47.

a good, clever kick from Kelly, bringing Burgess up, slipping behind

:25:48.:25:51.

him, they had to palm it dead and a repeat set from Hull, building the

:25:52.:25:55.

pressure at the minute. They are finding holes now I'm getting over

:25:56.:25:59.

the advantage line. That is when this guy steps in, he will see a

:26:00.:26:02.

quick ball on the front foot and that is where they are dangerous.

:26:03.:26:06.

I'm going to make a prediction, Dave, we seen a lot of these

:26:07.:26:10.

backline players shifting but I think a half-back, and inside ball

:26:11.:26:14.

will get one of these middle channel teams because both of the big packs

:26:15.:26:18.

are feeling the heat, and we are coming to 80 minutes, now. I think

:26:19.:26:22.

that is a definite method of getting points, playing through them. The

:26:23.:26:28.

cup final is simmering nicely on a hot August afternoon. Building and

:26:29.:26:32.

building, already two tries. But you sense plenty more to come. Danny

:26:33.:26:40.

Houghton to Gareth Ellis. What a professional he has been down the

:26:41.:26:44.

years. His debut in 1999, for Wakefield. His last year, this year.

:26:45.:26:54.

Kelly to Manu. Jamie Shaul marching up to dummy half. Kelly is away

:26:55.:26:58.

again, looking for the run, which is provided by Ellis. Wigan's defence

:26:59.:27:02.

being called into question but they are answering in the correct manner

:27:03.:27:07.

so far. It is left to Minichiello. He is nearly there. He nearly got a

:27:08.:27:13.

piggyback over the line, but just held short on the fifth tackle. Marc

:27:14.:27:17.

Sneyd puts the kick up again, reach by Griffin, the ball goes backwards

:27:18.:27:22.

and is collected by Mahe Fonua, who will claim a second Hull try! The

:27:23.:27:28.

referee is not sure. He's not sure. We are going to go to the video

:27:29.:27:34.

referee for the first time this afternoon.

:27:35.:27:40.

REFEREE: The live decision is a try. The first thing to check if the

:27:41.:27:50.

onside. They are all on site so we can lay through. The next thing we

:27:51.:27:54.

need to check is the catch, decide who it comes off.

:27:55.:28:03.

OK. Let's have a look it comes off a Wigan hand. Contact in the air is

:28:04.:28:11.

fine. Playing on from this. Now we are going to have a look at the

:28:12.:28:15.

pick-up which is clean. We're now going to go through to the

:28:16.:28:16.

grounding. Yeah, that is a try. Back-to-back Wembley tries for Mahe

:28:17.:28:45.

Fonua. Try scorer in 2016, try scorer in 2017 and Hull hit the

:28:46.:28:55.

lead. Tremendous work, once again, that man, Marc Sneyd, coming up with

:28:56.:29:01.

an absolute peach of a kick. The countdown on the Wigan line and he

:29:02.:29:05.

selects the kick, the contest just short of the goal-line, both sides

:29:06.:29:08.

go for it, it ricochets out to Mahe Fonua and there is the try,

:29:09.:29:12.

outstanding last tackle play from Marc Sneyd. Brilliant kick once

:29:13.:29:19.

again. Look at the arm going up. Griffin goes up. If the kick is

:29:20.:29:23.

accurate, it is so difficult as a defender, because you are planted on

:29:24.:29:29.

the other try line, you can't really get a run and jump on it so the

:29:30.:29:33.

advantage is with the onrushing attackers. These boys, we mentioned

:29:34.:29:40.

before the game, they are big lads. Shaun Wane mentioned that Hull were

:29:41.:29:43.

the bigger side and they are using it to their advantage but mainly

:29:44.:29:49.

through this guide's kicking game. And again it came off the back of

:29:50.:29:53.

field position, they got the field position for the first drive-through

:29:54.:29:56.

penalty and that was from a repeat set by Albert Kelly, field position

:29:57.:30:00.

is some imported is this game as is your last tackle kick players, three

:30:01.:30:06.

tries from kicks already. -- take place. His goal earlier was his

:30:07.:30:12.

300th for Hull, and in terms of career goals, 497 so far, and now

:30:13.:30:18.

498 so he could be reaching a big career milestone here today

:30:19.:30:22.

potentially. But Hull now lead 12-6. Trailing after four minutes, leading

:30:23.:30:28.

after 20. In all honesty, they deserve the lead. But the play still

:30:29.:30:34.

had to be executed to perfection. That is a genuine contest, Gildart

:30:35.:30:38.

has to go for it, the Hull centre is going for it and it comes free to

:30:39.:30:42.

Mahe Fonua for the try but again it's about field position and

:30:43.:30:46.

pressure and at the moment, Hull are inserting the pressure on the Wigan

:30:47.:30:52.

line. -- exerting pressure. They will get possession back again from

:30:53.:30:56.

the kick-off as well, taken safely by Jamie Shaul. Liam Watts. Well,

:30:57.:31:07.

the possession, Dave, has gone in Hull's direction, 66%, twice as much

:31:08.:31:11.

bull as Wigan Warriors at the moment, which is reflected in the

:31:12.:31:15.

scoreboard. That possession, allied with the field position which they

:31:16.:31:19.

have been getting, there, it is inevitable that points will be

:31:20.:31:20.

posted. The only two in this Hull line-up

:31:21.:31:35.

that did not experience Wembley 12 months ago. Scott Taylor. He played,

:31:36.:31:43.

of course, for Wigan back in the 2013 final. Winner's medal from that

:31:44.:31:50.

and win a's medal from last year as well. This is a searching high kick,

:31:51.:31:56.

Tomkins watches it come down out of a half cloudy sky and hands it back

:31:57.:32:02.

inside for Marshall to take it in. He has a penalty. Too much from the

:32:03.:32:07.

defenders, you may have heard the referee saying. That is the first

:32:08.:32:10.

Wigan penalty. At the minute penalties are few and far between.

:32:11.:32:17.

Wigan getting their second penalty, 2-1 to Wigan at the minute but they

:32:18.:32:21.

do need some ball and field position. Powell on from the

:32:22.:32:32.

interchange bench in that crucial dummy half position. Interchanges

:32:33.:32:42.

aplenty for Wigan to add some freshness to the situation they are

:32:43.:32:51.

in here. Here is Bateman. Powell. Williams, O'Loughlin, Tomkins, whose

:32:52.:32:57.

take is knocked down and the referee says play on. No, he doesn't. He'd

:32:58.:33:02.

dummied all of us, he was going to blow his whistle, then he decided he

:33:03.:33:05.

might not and then he did after all. Sam Tomkins on the edge. On this

:33:06.:33:13.

occasion Griffin gets it right by the extra man was there. If Griffin

:33:14.:33:16.

goes in he must make the tackle on Tomkins. Tomkins released it, he

:33:17.:33:24.

plays it and he goes on to Tomkins' body. It will be Wigan's head and

:33:25.:33:32.

feet, great opportunity for Wigan, repeat set in the Hull half of the

:33:33.:33:37.

field, the must make it pay. The Hull fans are billing because he

:33:38.:33:42.

didn't play at the ball. I'm telling you he did. It is Wigan head and

:33:43.:33:50.

feet. Here is Anthony Gelling, live wire in the early stages. Powell

:33:51.:34:00.

shaped up a dummy half a. Tautai. Wigan looking for your response. It

:34:01.:34:05.

is with Leuluai. Williams with the dummy and step, George Williams is a

:34:06.:34:08.

magical player but they just about got hold of him. They are going

:34:09.:34:18.

against the grain. Back to Leuluai. Tautai. Tomkins, quick camps.

:34:19.:34:22.

Gelling gets it but flicks it forward and the referee says he will

:34:23.:34:29.

give scrum head and feet to Hull. Credit to the Hull defence, they

:34:30.:34:32.

know what will happen, it's difficult to stop him, Youghal

:34:33.:34:36.

Williams and Tomkins coming in to create the overlap and the centres

:34:37.:34:41.

came in and spotted it and put pressure on Tomkins. They foiled two

:34:42.:34:46.

tax. Very good defence. It was Tuimavave who came in and it put the

:34:47.:34:56.

receivers of Wigan under pressure. Gelling played it and took a chance

:34:57.:35:01.

but not it forward. That's the danger, he is such a clever player

:35:02.:35:06.

he will come in and create the extra man on the outside. Wigan must work

:35:07.:35:12.

it out and play a little bit deeper. They can play deeper but stomach or

:35:13.:35:21.

they can put a kick in. Just for the momentum it is worth having. Hull

:35:22.:35:27.

are taking hold of the game, you can feel the confidence growing in this

:35:28.:35:32.

team. They look the best team at the minute by a fairway. Wigan beat

:35:33.:35:44.

Cronulla back in February to claim the world prize, Hull having beaten

:35:45.:35:50.

Warrington in a cup final last year. To hold the trophy they are playing

:35:51.:35:56.

for today. How to an out of dummy half. Sneyd. Inside it goes,

:35:57.:36:01.

Tuimavave. It's going to be put down. Three tackles still to go.

:36:02.:36:08.

Ellis straightens things up, honest endeavour again from him. Danny

:36:09.:36:13.

Houghton. Time to look up, consider his options. It goes to Taylor,

:36:14.:36:19.

Kelly, no luck pass from him into the hands of Josh Griffin. Griffin

:36:20.:36:24.

took it in and Wigan's defence looked the right way and they made

:36:25.:36:28.

the tackle, Kelly with the kick, there is some space but it's taken

:36:29.:36:34.

by Gelling. He has kept it in the field of play just about. He did

:36:35.:36:37.

well to stay in the field of play. Once again it was a good kick but

:36:38.:36:43.

the good kicks come on the back of quick play. No, no, no, no. They put

:36:44.:36:49.

in a great kick, got them under pressure meters from their own line

:36:50.:36:52.

and they go offside. It was a blatant one as well. Yes, it was.

:36:53.:37:05.

Way offside. The kick didn't have the height or position of Marc

:37:06.:37:09.

Sneyd's kick. Didn't need to go in on that tackle. Here is Gelling,

:37:10.:37:18.

wired, Powell. Williams looking for it. The paths is to yield out.

:37:19.:37:31.

Showing some pace. Griffin makes the tackle, Williams again. Wigan

:37:32.:37:33.

spreading it from one side or the other, Bateman cuts back in against

:37:34.:37:38.

the grain of the Hull defence. Leuluai. Tautai. O'Loughlin. Now

:37:39.:37:47.

Williams' pass goes to ground and it's kicked on and the referee says

:37:48.:37:52.

zero tackle, he's given Wigan an advantage, which they have got now

:37:53.:37:57.

with Burgess and it's the free play so Burgess can take a risk like that

:37:58.:38:02.

and he is almost in. Tackle count starts here. They might not need the

:38:03.:38:08.

full six. Were it not for the fact that Hull's defence was right on top

:38:09.:38:12.

of things. They've got to come left, tap and go, a lot of the Hull

:38:13.:38:16.

defenders have been drawn towards the ball on the far side. That was

:38:17.:38:25.

clever. As you rightly say... I'm sure they were happy to give away

:38:26.:38:29.

the penalty, let us regroup and get our defensive line set and then

:38:30.:38:35.

repel for this set of six. They were so short on the right-hand side

:38:36.:38:41.

defensively. The professional foul. They are taking their time, they

:38:42.:38:45.

have all of the tricks in the book to slow it down. Six tackles for

:38:46.:38:49.

Wigan. They have taken a kick to touch so they will go back on the

:38:50.:38:58.

ten. Six tackles for Hull to defend. For Wigan to chance their arm.

:38:59.:39:05.

Powell in a dummy half, Leuluai to his left but he's going short and

:39:06.:39:13.

flat instead for Ryan Sutton. Powell again. Wigan, taking shape, Williams

:39:14.:39:20.

cuts back inside. Steps away from the lunging effort of Ellis, keeps

:39:21.:39:24.

it alive when another tackle comes in. Gildart is on this left-hand

:39:25.:39:29.

side but can't find a path through. Good defence from Hull working

:39:30.:39:36.

really hard from the inside. O'Loughlin. Again, using the ball,

:39:37.:39:42.

Leuluai dummies and dummies. Tracked all the way. O'Loughlin. Bateman

:39:43.:39:49.

now. Little pockets of space opening up. Another set of six, Hull got a

:39:50.:39:58.

touch, here comes Sutton, put down. Six more tackles for Wigan to have a

:39:59.:40:02.

go. Exhausting passage of play for the Hull defence. Tomkins sees the

:40:03.:40:09.

gap. He has lost the ball in the in-goal area and Hull survive with

:40:10.:40:16.

some heroic defending. A desperate lunge by Tomkins has not paid off.

:40:17.:40:21.

They are all getting a bit excited as a result. They will be. Sam

:40:22.:40:27.

Tomkins will be frustrated because that was tackle one they lost the

:40:28.:40:31.

ball on and the Hull FC players let him know that as well. A bit of

:40:32.:40:39.

sledging, I'm sure. Desperate lunge by Tomkins. He thought that he could

:40:40.:40:44.

reach there. Just watch, they stood off him. He was too far away and

:40:45.:40:53.

just lost it. Great work from Tuimavave and Sneyd as well. I'm

:40:54.:40:59.

sure there was a bit of verbals when he lost the ball and that's when the

:41:00.:41:10.

incident occurred. There was a little use of the head by Marc

:41:11.:41:18.

Sneyd. Nothing in that. It will be interesting to see what the

:41:19.:41:25.

conclusion is. Get off my mate! There is some discussion going on.

:41:26.:41:31.

This is the original one. But then it is what happens next. Did

:41:32.:41:38.

Tuimavave have a little pop that Tomkins? I think they both did. It

:41:39.:41:42.

is clear that Sneyd said something and had a pop at him and then to

:41:43.:41:45.

did. Just watch Tuimavave's right-hand. There is nothing in

:41:46.:41:55.

that. Just watch should need. His face. Tuimavave has a little look

:41:56.:41:59.

back. The conclusion from that is there is not much in it. It will be

:42:00.:42:05.

an interesting decision. Just watch. I don't think there is much in it.

:42:06.:42:16.

REFEREE: Come and speak to me as well. Described as handbags by Phil

:42:17.:42:22.

Bentham, which I think sums it up. Let's see who takes this. Will they

:42:23.:42:27.

bring in one of the big fellows to take the first carry? I would

:42:28.:42:32.

suggest that is a possibility. Fonua could come along and take this.

:42:33.:42:39.

There is the challenge, if he carries the ball, send three or four

:42:40.:42:47.

defenders at him. That has livened things up a little. It is a cup

:42:48.:42:53.

final. The big fellows are not complaining because they got an

:42:54.:42:56.

extra breather while those little terriers were having a go. Here we

:42:57.:43:02.

go. The game is back on and Hull have a lot of work to do to get away

:43:03.:43:07.

from that end of the field. Wigan have come away with no points. Three

:43:08.:43:13.

sets to defend on their own try line. Sika Manu will take it on. The

:43:14.:43:22.

World Cup this live across all platforms on the BBC, October 27,

:43:23.:43:26.

England against Australia and then off we go, the rest of the

:43:27.:43:29.

tournament. The man alongside me, John Kear, involved, his Welsh side

:43:30.:43:40.

involved. Port Moresby. . Another touch by Gelling but it's the first

:43:41.:43:44.

one that counts. There is an element of fatigue. Around half an hour in

:43:45.:43:50.

this heat, one or two areas, it is creeping in and we will see who

:43:51.:43:56.

takes advantage. Minichiello off-loading into Duma Valley and

:43:57.:43:59.

Leuluai it was just lining up for one of his famous tough tackles

:44:00.:44:07.

there. But the ball was spilt. Just as well for Tuimavave's rips that he

:44:08.:44:14.

didn't catch the ball. -- ribs. Nine minutes of the half remaining. Here

:44:15.:44:24.

is Gelling. Powell is the man at dummy half. Tautai coming on with an

:44:25.:44:31.

adventurous surge. Making metres after contact. Putting Hull further

:44:32.:44:39.

on the back foot. Powell again. Leuluai. Tomkins spotted by the

:44:40.:44:44.

winger but bounced him off. They have to come up with a solution to

:44:45.:44:48.

the defensive work because they get in front of the ball and close the

:44:49.:44:55.

back man down. The centre or the winger, putting pressure on Tomkins.

:44:56.:45:01.

Plays him behind the back of Leuluai. Sutton, the big fellow,

:45:02.:45:05.

picks it up, the prop forward, runs it back, kick of their heels as he

:45:06.:45:12.

takes it in. He is the last player. Powell. O'Loughlin. It comes to

:45:13.:45:18.

Leuluai. Leuluai to Williams. Williams again, they are going to go

:45:19.:45:21.

for the try line and Gildart has found the try line. Well done. Well

:45:22.:45:29.

done, Wigan Warriors. Week spoke about Fonua, he held his ground

:45:30.:45:32.

waiting for the kick and he did similarly so there. But what George

:45:33.:45:38.

Williams did, he carried the ball at the line and caused that indecision

:45:39.:45:43.

and opened up that space for yield at to go through. Well done, Wigan

:45:44.:45:47.

Warriors. Well done, George Williams. We said they would have to

:45:48.:45:50.

come up with a solution and they did. Just watch, goes again, Tomkins

:45:51.:45:56.

at the back but instead of hitting Tomkins the hit Gildart, so they

:45:57.:46:00.

changed their tactic and it worked for them. Marvellous play, wasn't

:46:01.:46:05.

it? Brilliant player. Really good, Williams took the line on admit

:46:06.:46:11.

Griffin half turning in this space, Fonua held his width waiting for the

:46:12.:46:16.

kick and that's the area where Gildart goes. You can see Fonua

:46:17.:46:21.

worried about the wide stuff. Bang come through he goes and over he

:46:22.:46:27.

goes. Great try. Very clever play, changing a little bit of what they

:46:28.:46:30.

have done previously because the Hull defence have been very good.

:46:31.:46:35.

Just one little tweak of the attack and Gildart scorers. Very good they

:46:36.:46:40.

were running on the last play rather than doing the orthodox kick.

:46:41.:46:45.

Although kicking has been successful. Every try has been

:46:46.:46:51.

scored on the last tackle. George Williams, tough as they come.

:46:52.:46:58.

Challenge Cup final kick from the touchline. He will be disappointed

:46:59.:47:05.

with the end result. But 12-10. The final score last year against

:47:06.:47:11.

Warrington. Yes, it was. Look at the skill, great shift, O'Loughlin plays

:47:12.:47:15.

that well, lovely back man play, that injection from pace causes the

:47:16.:47:20.

doubt between Kellyanne Griffin which opens up the space where Fonua

:47:21.:47:25.

is held wide and threw went Gildart, real quality play from Wigan

:47:26.:47:29.

Warriors. The acceleration just got him on the outside, didn't it?

:47:30.:47:33.

Winding himself up and holding himself that the Black and Whites'

:47:34.:47:41.

line. Powell at dummy half. There is a spring in their step now for the

:47:42.:47:46.

Cherry and Whites. That is a good run. Gelling has got involved in a

:47:47.:47:52.

locked down the middle, hasn't he? The three quarters will be tasked

:47:53.:47:56.

with that, to go in and help the forwards, take the pressure off the

:47:57.:48:02.

big guys like Tautai. Tautai has done really well since coming on, he

:48:03.:48:10.

has carried them well. Wigan 30 away. Little kick over the top from

:48:11.:48:14.

Williams. The leap and safe pair of hands provided by Fonua but almost

:48:15.:48:21.

pushed towards the touchline. It was a good set. It was clever how they

:48:22.:48:25.

allowed him to catch the ball and clamped him and took him to the

:48:26.:48:30.

sidelines so he is out of play for this set of six. Here is Kelly,

:48:31.:48:36.

towards the winger, Talanoa attacks on the heavy duty of to take it

:48:37.:48:42.

forward. Andy Farrell played in many cup finals. I wonder if Owen will

:48:43.:48:47.

ever play in a Challenge Cup final. Picked up and taken forward by Danny

:48:48.:48:56.

Washbrook. Danny Houghton. It is going to be an attempted 40-20, is

:48:57.:49:03.

it? The winners have it covered. They have, both wingers and the

:49:04.:49:06.

full-back, well played by the Wigan back three. -- the wingers have it

:49:07.:49:12.

covered. Sean O'Loughlin took his time to get back in position. I

:49:13.:49:18.

think he caught one on the chin. Feeling the heat. He will have to

:49:19.:49:19.

get on with it, regardless of. Oh! Danny Washbrook there with an

:49:20.:49:36.

elbow in his face. I don't think it was intentional. OK, Dave.

:49:37.:49:46.

They have still got tackles in the bank, Wigan, they are advancing

:49:47.:49:47.

menacingly again. Here is O'Loughlin. It has switched to the

:49:48.:49:54.

Cherry and Whites now, hasn't it? Yes, it has. The last play, what can

:49:55.:49:59.

they do this time? Gelling skipping in the air, Hull's defends out

:50:00.:50:05.

smartly. All of the venom is taken out of that by Hull's responds

:50:06.:50:09.

getting forward and they get possession back 15 from their own

:50:10.:50:13.

line. I thought Gelling, having run the ball previously, as soon as

:50:14.:50:18.

Talanoa came up, that was when to put boot to ball and slide it in

:50:19.:50:24.

behind. He didn't look to off-load, just surrendered to the tackle, it's

:50:25.:50:34.

quite unusual. I tell you what, Dave, it's a good game. Danny

:50:35.:50:38.

Houghton is looking for a penalty and he gets the penalty. Clever

:50:39.:50:42.

dummy half, he knew the man was offside. I don't like that. It is a

:50:43.:50:48.

Challenge Cup final. I don't like that. Who could have got the pass

:50:49.:50:53.

away but you can't blame him for doing it. O'Loughlin was trying to

:50:54.:50:58.

get out of the way. He has plenty of time to pass that. But take the

:50:59.:51:07.

penalty, three minutes to go, now in an attacking position. As they start

:51:08.:51:15.

their set Shaun Wane feeling the heat metaphorically and physically

:51:16.:51:18.

because the sun is beating down on the touchline, which he will be

:51:19.:51:25.

occupying in a few seconds time. The sun is in Marshall's eyes, the

:51:26.:51:39.

winger's guys. -- eyes. Minichiello. Collecting at dummy half. Sneyd

:51:40.:51:46.

turns it away for Liam Watts. Onto his knees quickly, plays it quickly,

:51:47.:51:50.

Wigan not as set as they might have wanted to become a Kelly with the

:51:51.:51:55.

inside ball, Shaul has the opening but it closes as quick, the big

:51:56.:52:00.

Cherry and White door slams in his face but they have tackles to play

:52:01.:52:03.

with and what the position they are in, Sneyd puts the kick in, Marshall

:52:04.:52:07.

covers it, swallowed up with possession. Sneyd, cross kick once

:52:08.:52:15.

again. Last play, Sneyd puts it high, Burgess has come a long way to

:52:16.:52:21.

try and get in there. The flick pass away is taken by Powell. Began, such

:52:22.:52:26.

an advantage for the attacking side. He just gets above everyone, Albert

:52:27.:52:31.

Kelly. Penalty. 90 seconds remaining in the half. That was a great

:52:32.:52:36.

passage of play, high-quality, both attacking and defensively. Really

:52:37.:52:41.

good stuff what Hull are throwing at Wigan and what Wigan are serving up

:52:42.:52:45.

defensively and then the riposte coming. Look at the numbers Wigan

:52:46.:52:48.

have around the ball but still Kelly came up with it and then it was the

:52:49.:52:53.

last tackle and Powell comes up with the ball. Had it gone to one of his

:52:54.:52:58.

team-mates we would have been claiming that pass was a Wembley

:52:59.:53:02.

miracle but it was quickly forgotten because it went to a Wigan man. Good

:53:03.:53:08.

tackle, that tackle had to be made. Yeah. Here is Powell in a tangle.

:53:09.:53:15.

The referee wants to see this a little cleaner than it was so we go

:53:16.:53:22.

back to where we were. Explained the difference between that and that

:53:23.:53:25.

pass into somebody. Penalty. Powell. Williams. Stepping one way

:53:26.:53:39.

and then the other, Tomkins injecting himself. Gildart, big

:53:40.:53:46.

shoulder comes in from Mahe Fonua. Asking questions of Hull. The

:53:47.:53:51.

wingers sobering Doomur Dullung so well. Hull short of numbers, Farrell

:53:52.:53:56.

could not pick it up but here comes Mahe Fonua, having a look on the

:53:57.:54:01.

inside. Gildart makes the tackle but Hull are on the way, the hooter

:54:02.:54:06.

sounds. They can still play on. Leuluai gets himself in the way but

:54:07.:54:09.

then drops on the ball and the referee will blow the whistle to

:54:10.:54:17.

officially end the first half. Terrific stuff. Mahe Fonua's try,

:54:18.:54:22.

the second of Hull's brace, helping them to a 12-6 lead at that stage

:54:23.:54:27.

but Oliver Gildart with his score getting Wigan back in it, 12-10 is

:54:28.:54:33.

the scoreline. Let's go down to the touchline and I think Tanya is

:54:34.:54:35.

speaking to one of the Wigan players. What did you make of the

:54:36.:54:40.

first half? Very tough. Both sides trying to get

:54:41.:54:47.

used to the pace of the game and we settled in at the end, set Forsett

:54:48.:54:51.

but it has been a tough start to the game and the energy levels dropped a

:54:52.:54:54.

little at the end but both sides pleased with how they have done,

:54:55.:54:58.

made some improvements. What is the key to the second half for you guys?

:54:59.:55:07.

Don't give any penalties away. Gareth Ellis is on the Hull

:55:08.:55:11.

touchline. It is a physical battle but is it turning into a tactical

:55:12.:55:16.

one also? Disappointingly we are not getting to the end of our sets, and

:55:17.:55:20.

most of the game is played on our try line so we need to address that

:55:21.:55:24.

and play-the-ball at the other end of the field. Thank you, Gareth.

:55:25.:55:29.

STUDIO: A fascinating and really good game of rugby league, those are

:55:30.:55:35.

the stats from the first 40 minutes. Obviously you know that score. At

:55:36.:55:40.

one stage they put the graphic up in the first half when Hull had 67%

:55:41.:55:45.

possession to Wigan's 33, and look how it balanced up in the first

:55:46.:55:48.

half, Wigan have had more possession and more territory and most other

:55:49.:55:53.

things, very equal, tackle completion 91 and 93%.

:55:54.:55:58.

It is intriguing, isn't it? Strategy is unfolding, it is physical, there

:55:59.:56:05.

is some good all movement, is in great kicking, we have seen Wigan

:56:06.:56:09.

trying to work out Hull because they've been spooked in terms of a

:56:10.:56:12.

lot of players and got into the game and when we have seen Hull control

:56:13.:56:15.

the ball they look physically dominant and great on the kick

:56:16.:56:19.

reception. Both coaches have lots to reinforce and lots to put right. We

:56:20.:56:24.

have seen two very good sides, putting pressure on and dominating

:56:25.:56:28.

for a while. Wigan dominated in the first ten minutes for that period

:56:29.:56:34.

and then through the runs of Ellis and Watts and Taylor Hull worked

:56:35.:56:37.

their way back into the game and at the back end we have seen Wigan

:56:38.:56:40.

applying pressure. Good sides withstand the pressure which we've

:56:41.:56:45.

seen from both of them. Hull defensively managing to keep Tomkins

:56:46.:56:51.

out, a great tackle from Sneyd. Hull started the game powerfully, looked

:56:52.:56:54.

threatening with the ball but that being said Wigan with their fitness

:56:55.:56:57.

and dynamic nature of their team saw them come to prominence at the back

:56:58.:57:01.

end of the half. It was ball control, Hull could not control the

:57:02.:57:05.

ball at times in the first half and came up with mistakes inviting Wigan

:57:06.:57:08.

back into the game. Pre-match we spoke about the kicking game and we

:57:09.:57:13.

said that Hull probably had the better kicking game is

:57:14.:57:17.

understandably the first try came from a Wigan kick. It was a great

:57:18.:57:21.

execution by Thomas Leuluai for the first try. Heat advantage of Hull's

:57:22.:57:27.

strength, big outside backs, their weakness would then be them being

:57:28.:57:31.

able to turn quickly and get into position. Kicking behind Talanoa was

:57:32.:57:36.

a smart play they were slightly out of position. The kick finds grass

:57:37.:57:40.

but Anthony Gelling kept moving and Tuimavave gave up on the trace and

:57:41.:57:45.

that is a try. Sometimes these big games are defined by little

:57:46.:57:49.

competitions like that, Gelling kept moving. What a star. We said it was

:57:50.:57:55.

lucky bounce but luck meets hard work. There were more Cherry and

:57:56.:57:59.

White shirts than Black and White shirts and that's why they came up

:58:00.:58:02.

with the ball. You said it was a lucky bounce because an commentary

:58:03.:58:06.

they were talking about with a Leuluai put back spin on it. It is a

:58:07.:58:11.

lucky bounce all day. I tried to give him too much credit. Wigan kept

:58:12.:58:15.

moving and what defines Wigan being a good side as they work hard in

:58:16.:58:18.

those little battles, Gelling could have given up on it and nobody would

:58:19.:58:23.

have noticed. Tuimavave and Shaul got that wrong, played forward and

:58:24.:58:26.

they didn't expect the kick on the plate and that caught them short. It

:58:27.:58:33.

was a googly, wasn't it? Take us through the opening Hull try. I

:58:34.:58:36.

think you will spotted a similarity to a try in the semifinals. Yes,

:58:37.:58:41.

Shaun Wane before the game spoke about how we can meet De might beat

:58:42.:58:48.

Hull, not miss tackles, there is one missed tackle. It ends up in a try

:58:49.:58:51.

and it is chaos in the Wigan defence. He also talked about

:58:52.:58:56.

ineffective tackles, this is an ineffective tackle, Albert Kelly

:58:57.:59:00.

gets the ball away and this try is similar to the semifinal, pinpoint

:59:01.:59:04.

kick, we thought this plate was understandable. It is only

:59:05.:59:07.

understandable because of the missed tackles beforehand and Shaun Wane

:59:08.:59:09.

and Wigan will be disappointed with this because it's from missing

:59:10.:59:15.

tackles. It doesn't allow you to get set defensively. That flowed would

:59:16.:59:18.

have caused all manner of chaos to the Wigan defence of line -- that

:59:19.:59:24.

off-load. The kick was exceptional, puts them on the money. We sought

:59:25.:59:30.

Tuimavave scoring from the same skill in the semifinal, Hugh Lanham

:59:31.:59:34.

is the kick one metre from the opposition try line, consistently.

:59:35.:59:39.

It is an exceptional skill to have. -- he lands the kick. You hold your

:59:40.:59:43.

hands up to the kick as the opposition and so sometimes you

:59:44.:59:46.

cannot defend it and we are beaten by a sensational bit of skill. But

:59:47.:59:50.

as Jamie highlighted this is where it went wrong, in the missed tackle.

:59:51.:59:55.

That is the thing as a coach you can put right and as a player you can

:59:56.:59:58.

put right because they have said, with Sneyd who is the cute kicker

:59:59.:00:05.

you think he is, if you give him the time, they have offensive jumpers

:00:06.:00:09.

above them. The way to stop the Vista but the kicker under pressure

:00:10.:00:12.

and to do that you must do the things JP alluded to. Having got

:00:13.:00:16.

themselves level, and there is the Hull dressing room as they refresh

:00:17.:00:20.

themselves before the second half, having got themselves level they

:00:21.:00:24.

took the lead. Yes and Hull challenge to Wigan with ball

:00:25.:00:27.

movement and off the back of that, another Sneyd kick, Fonua came up

:00:28.:00:32.

with the try. What impressed me in the build-up to the try was the

:00:33.:00:36.

amount of ball movement Hull used, they challenged within defensively

:00:37.:00:39.

which is not something you associate with Hull but Kelly and Sneyd have

:00:40.:00:43.

been active on the ball. This kick again was on the money and that's

:00:44.:00:48.

just the competition, Hull had numbers in the frame, Fonua scored

:00:49.:00:52.

the try, not a fan of the put-down but it was a try nonetheless. In the

:00:53.:00:55.

sense that if you played against him that would wind you up. There was an

:00:56.:00:59.

opportunity to kick the ball out, no need. John was right, Hull caused

:01:00.:01:04.

chaos in the Wigan defence and being a powerful side and moving the ball

:01:05.:01:08.

around makes it difficult to defend. As a smaller guy you want to get set

:01:09.:01:11.

and trying to put your shoulder through summary but you can't do

:01:12.:01:15.

that when a side is moving the ball around all the time. Almagro played

:01:16.:01:18.

well in the middle period of the first half. They would have crushed

:01:19.:01:25.

a lot of teams but Wigan hung in. -- Hull played well. One of the

:01:26.:01:29.

trademarks of wooden is they control what they can, make sure they are as

:01:30.:01:31.

fit as everyone else in the competition and compete as hard as

:01:32.:01:34.

anyone else in the competition and that is what got them back into the

:01:35.:01:38.

game. Shaun Wane is really getting into them at the moment. Admittedly,

:01:39.:01:43.

we are only judging that on the body language and pointing at them rather

:01:44.:01:46.

than hearing what he is saying. He is reinforcing the got to go at the

:01:47.:01:50.

line, there are passes coming through but there will also be some

:01:51.:01:53.

clear coaching messages about going at the line rather than playing at

:01:54.:01:58.

the line, which is what he should talk about. Gildart has looked

:01:59.:02:01.

strong and fast with the ball and they are beating people one-on-one

:02:02.:02:05.

themselves, Wigan but Hull contributed to their own downfall in

:02:06.:02:08.

the first half, not downfall but the reason Wigan but then I got back

:02:09.:02:14.

into the game. That invited Wigan into their half.

:02:15.:02:19.

We talked about the contrasting dressing room spray much but it's

:02:20.:02:24.

contrasting at half-time. Lee Radford has dentist chair around to

:02:25.:02:28.

act more natural! Lee Radford is relaxed and his message will be

:02:29.:02:32.

about execution and retaining possession. Shaun Wane, on the other

:02:33.:02:36.

hand, for me, his forceful hand actions, what he is telling his

:02:37.:02:39.

teams to be direct and the Gildart try was exactly what Wigan needed.

:02:40.:02:44.

It was a punch into an inside job, being direct and that got Wigan the

:02:45.:02:48.

try. The Wigan attack, the shifts with many players was not as

:02:49.:02:51.

effective in the first half because they kept on going out the back

:02:52.:02:55.

trying to hit Sam Tomkins but we were speaking about them hitting

:02:56.:02:58.

lead runners, hitting the ball and the man in front, Gildart, hitting

:02:59.:03:03.

into the line, and a perfect drive. Hull defended Renny well, worked

:03:04.:03:06.

hard from the inside and forced people to the sideline but when you

:03:07.:03:09.

do that, you are susceptible to getting beat on the inside shoulder

:03:10.:03:11.

which is where Mahe Fonua gets beaten. I expect Bateman to be hit

:03:12.:03:18.

on the right Andy Farrell on the left, short balls all the time,

:03:19.:03:22.

trying to get in and through the Hull defensive line. That is where

:03:23.:03:26.

the secret is, Hull want you to play early so they can move across and

:03:27.:03:29.

solve the problem but when it is that the line, you don't get the

:03:30.:03:33.

time to react. That play was that the line which was the telling

:03:34.:03:36.

point. Thomas Leuluai went into the teeth of the Hull defence and made

:03:37.:03:44.

it hard, Griffin with a Paul Reid at the end but it made it hard to

:03:45.:03:47.

defend. If Wigan do go more direct at the line, can Hull change how

:03:48.:03:51.

quickly they get out? Of course. But it is easy to say. Hull can cure

:03:52.:03:55.

that by having more energy in defence and move quicker and not

:03:56.:03:59.

give the ball away. The solution for Hull all year has been Talanoa and

:04:00.:04:03.

Mahe Fonua coming in and smashing some answer when you are being

:04:04.:04:06.

passive, look out for Talanoa and Mahe Fonua deciding to be aggressive

:04:07.:04:10.

and shut it down. They've done it a couple of times nearly come up with

:04:11.:04:14.

a ball and forced Erazo -- errors from Wigan so that is what they will

:04:15.:04:18.

have to content with. Lee Radford's team talk has finished and they are

:04:19.:04:21.

towelling off and getting more refreshment. At the start of the

:04:22.:04:25.

game, I mentioned the player microphone we have had the last

:04:26.:04:33.

couple of seasons, a player wears it for us and we pick up all kinds of

:04:34.:04:36.

really interesting noises and insight from the field of play

:04:37.:04:38.

during the Challenge Cup campaign. Today, the Hull head coach himself

:04:39.:04:41.

has won it for us and this is how the first half went through his eyes

:04:42.:04:45.

and his mouth. What an atmosphere, isn't it? How are you, pal? All

:04:46.:04:55.

right? I appreciate your work. Appreciate that. Bring this home,

:04:56.:05:02.

now. Dangerous, dangerous. Dangerous, Mark! Really dangerous.

:05:03.:05:09.

Go on, then, big fellow. Come on. Yes! There she is! Good job. Oh, no,

:05:10.:05:25.

no. Yes. Get in! Yes! Good deed, good scramble. That is the one, that

:05:26.:05:36.

is the spot, that is the spot. He's very calm, isn't he? Admittedly,

:05:37.:05:41.

that is what we've been able to broadcast but he is very calm. But I

:05:42.:05:46.

think a coach has to be calm and consistent. You have seen out in a

:05:47.:05:49.

dressing room tour, he has been calm but some of that may be to do with

:05:50.:05:55.

wearing a microphone as well! We mentioned earlier, so much tradition

:05:56.:05:58.

around the Challenge Cup final and every year, there is a school 's

:05:59.:06:03.

final, a year seven schools final and when that took place earlier,

:06:04.:06:04.

Dave Woods was across it. COMMENTATOR: The final, as ever, is

:06:05.:06:24.

named after Steven Mullaney who played in the 1986 final and scored

:06:25.:06:30.

a driver Wakefield schools against St Helens. There he is but

:06:31.:06:33.

tragically, he was killed in a traffic incident the following year

:06:34.:06:37.

so that is why it is the Steven Mullaney final. The Castleford

:06:38.:06:41.

captain, no booth, opened the scoring with a stunning solo effort,

:06:42.:06:45.

really great footwork. He converted that as well. Love these moments,

:06:46.:06:54.

watch next week's Blue Peter to catch some of the magic. Saint

:06:55.:06:59.

Peters struck back, and cosily setting up Harris Brown. The

:07:00.:07:03.

Yorkshire side went in at half-time leading 6-4. Great carried, held up

:07:04.:07:11.

just short but quickly in at dummy half and that is a good snooping try

:07:12.:07:23.

out of dummy half. What a moment, to score a try at Wembley! The second

:07:24.:07:30.

half was all about Tyler Smudup, this is the first of his two tries.

:07:31.:07:36.

A popular fellow with that one and he scored again, went over the

:07:37.:07:40.

whitewash again shortly afterwards. That extended Castleford's lead with

:07:41.:07:48.

Booth scoring the extras. And that proved to be enough. Attacking kick

:07:49.:07:56.

right at the end of the game but the referee blew the whistle and plenty

:07:57.:08:01.

of cup celebrations and John Kear, what a great moment fall of the

:08:02.:08:06.

youngsters involved. Great moment for everybody who entered the field

:08:07.:08:11.

of play, there. Some real standard rugby league from one is so young

:08:12.:08:14.

and great to see the camaraderie that has already developed in a team

:08:15.:08:19.

sport. That is one of the things about playing in a team, you make

:08:20.:08:24.

and share memories and you get respect. Well done to Castleford.

:08:25.:08:36.

Well said, John Kear, absolute class on both teams. At the moment on the

:08:37.:08:42.

pitch during half-time, there is a Blue Peter challenge going on as

:08:43.:08:46.

they have tried to teach some of the blue Peter presenters the skills of

:08:47.:08:49.

the game so they are involved in that at the moment. If you want to

:08:50.:08:56.

watch... What has Kevin Sinfield got on his head? A camera. He's part of

:08:57.:09:00.

the challenge and if you want to see more of it, you can on Blue Peter

:09:01.:09:10.

this Thursday, 5:30pm, an CBBC. We have seen some stars of the future

:09:11.:09:14.

in the schools game but let's hears from some stars of the past, a

:09:15.:09:17.

couple of legends of the game, Wigan legend does well with Tanya.

:09:18.:09:22.

Mystic magic himself, Ellery Hanley, and I think you are still the

:09:23.:09:25.

youngest man to win the Challenge Cup. You are the guest of honour,

:09:26.:09:30.

what has it been like for you? -- Andy Farrell, I think you are. It's

:09:31.:09:36.

been tremendous. I look at my career and I have a look at the point where

:09:37.:09:39.

I started in terms of being a foot soldier to being a captain of a club

:09:40.:09:42.

and then being a captain of the country and then a coach, and then

:09:43.:09:47.

to give the trophy to the winners of the Challenge Cup final is just

:09:48.:09:51.

enormous. It has been such a privilege for me. Are you watching

:09:52.:09:55.

this, thinking you could put your boots on and do a job? Absolutely

:09:56.:10:00.

not! I've got all my faculties in place. I'm looking at it from both

:10:01.:10:04.

angles, from the players, they go into the changing room and they know

:10:05.:10:07.

what they have to do, the Wigan players know what they have to do to

:10:08.:10:10.

win this football game and so do the Hull players and from a coach's

:10:11.:10:14.

point of view as well. Andy, a quick word, how do you see it going?

:10:15.:10:19.

Obviously, two good sides playing extremely well together. I think two

:10:20.:10:23.

side who are coached very well as well. I wonder what the tactics will

:10:24.:10:28.

be like in the dressing room because I don't know who's going to win. Two

:10:29.:10:33.

very good side who looked very dangerous with threats all over the

:10:34.:10:36.

field so I am looking forward to the seven. I will let you go otherwise

:10:37.:10:39.

you will get swept up and end up out there yourselves!

:10:40.:10:42.

Just before we get the second half under way, let's here from the Wigan

:10:43.:10:46.

head coach. You were animated as ever in the dressing room, full of

:10:47.:10:50.

passion. What do you have to do to get over the line? Root finish the

:10:51.:10:55.

set is a bit better but I thought some of the attack was fantastic. We

:10:56.:11:00.

handled it a few times in the second quarter but the end of the sets need

:11:01.:11:04.

to be better. We troubled them when we did that. Fairly happy with the

:11:05.:11:08.

half. I think we will improve in a second. Thanks. As you can see, both

:11:09.:11:13.

sets of players are ready together the second 40 minutes. Let's rejoin

:11:14.:11:17.

the commentators, John Kear, Jonathan Davies and Dave Woods.

:11:18.:11:23.

COMMENTATOR: 40 minutes to settle it, extra time if needed for the

:11:24.:11:29.

very first time this year, the Challenge Cup has the potential of a

:11:30.:11:33.

golden point at the end of it, no replay this year. 1982 and 1954, the

:11:34.:11:37.

two replay years in the Wembley error. But it will be settled today,

:11:38.:11:44.

one way or the other. How do you see it going, John, from here on in?

:11:45.:11:49.

Again, like Andy Farrell, it is really anybody's game. I'm certain

:11:50.:11:53.

they will be fixing up certain aspects of the play but it was a

:11:54.:11:57.

tremendously high standard, the first half, in really difficult,

:11:58.:12:01.

warm conditions. Again, I feel that possession and field position are

:12:02.:12:07.

the key to the game. Moving up the dummy half, kicking away from the 40

:12:08.:12:11.

metre mark and it has bounced on the line and I think it hit the line

:12:12.:12:16.

which is technically out so it was an inch away from being a perfect

:12:17.:12:20.

kick but the extra inch has made it a pretty poor one from a Wigan

:12:21.:12:24.

perspective and a great lift for Hull. That is the difference, just

:12:25.:12:31.

watch... Yeah, six inches too far. That gives Hull a very good

:12:32.:12:36.

attacking early position in the second half. Trying to get a bit of

:12:37.:12:40.

field position, Tomkins, but credit to Jamie Shaul, I thought he policed

:12:41.:12:44.

that really well, if it had been in the field of play, he could have got

:12:45.:12:48.

it but it wasn't, so the first blow to Hull. What a position here, 40

:12:49.:12:54.

metres away from the Wigan line. An arm wrestle going on, Danny

:12:55.:13:11.

Houghton in our dummy half again. Chris Green steps and surges and

:13:12.:13:18.

takes his team a little closer. He did well there because great legs be

:13:19.:13:22.

drawn Wigan but he used his footwork to poke his nose through the

:13:23.:13:25.

defensive line. Tuimavave on the left-hand side, crunching, Bateman,

:13:26.:13:31.

from behind, Leuluai having already gathered in his legs. Marc Sneyd.

:13:32.:13:36.

Josh Bowden. Liam Watts. Hull keeping it alive but Liam Watts is

:13:37.:13:42.

going to be put down. Still a couple of tackles to go. Danny Houghton.

:13:43.:13:50.

Kelly again. Bowden once more, straightening things up. And the

:13:51.:13:56.

last play to come. Wigan, Wehrlein. Here comes Kelly. Marc Sneyd, a

:13:57.:14:04.

measured kick again, plenty back in cherry and white, not the least of

:14:05.:14:10.

them Anthony Gelling, and off the ball... Marshall, I believe. Liam

:14:11.:14:15.

Marshall has given away the penalty. They have switched Kelly Chad

:14:16.:14:18.

Marshall, gelding has gone wide, the taller man, to play on the wing for

:14:19.:14:21.

the last play but I'm certain Marshall ran across the line of

:14:22.:14:26.

Talanoa and he did and it's a penalty. There was no need to that,

:14:27.:14:30.

yes, you can start there but you can't make it that obvious. -- to do

:14:31.:14:36.

that. Yelling, they've swapped them over, gelding is the bigger man and

:14:37.:14:41.

he took it so contrary, didn't he? -- Jelling is the bigger man. This

:14:42.:14:46.

is building into a big moment of the game. A big moment for Hull because

:14:47.:14:53.

they got the first set deep in the opposition half, and they have

:14:54.:14:55.

played the full set out of another full Tampa -- camped on the Wigan

:14:56.:15:04.

line. Talanoa, having had treatment, has hobbled back into position, does

:15:05.:15:08.

not look comfortable but Hull with a set of six do have a go. Josh

:15:09.:15:18.

Bowden, solidly forward. Eventually plays it. Danny Houghton, it comes

:15:19.:15:22.

out. Marc Sneyd with a short pass. Liam Watts. Just short. Keeping the

:15:23.:15:31.

ball safe before playing it back again. Green. The Wigan defence

:15:32.:15:41.

rushing out quickly. Still three or four tackles to go, Danny Houghton

:15:42.:15:44.

again, Liam Watts involved again, Washbrook cannot keep it alive.

:15:45.:15:48.

Wigan hanging on a little, here. It is with Howden. Bowden. Danny

:15:49.:15:56.

Houghton, Marc Sneyd, into the in-goal area with the kick, Marshall

:15:57.:16:00.

takes it up but again has to concede the drop out underneath the sticks

:16:01.:16:02.

and they crank up the pressure, do the Black and Whites. Very good kick

:16:03.:16:08.

once again, the ball will come back to them now in attack again. Great

:16:09.:16:13.

skill that Marc Sneyd demonstrates because it is the weight on the

:16:14.:16:17.

kick, he is having to pick between onrushing defenders. This is their

:16:18.:16:22.

third set consecutively now, the Black and Whites. And they are in

:16:23.:16:26.

good field position. Great opportunity for them. Wigan will

:16:27.:16:31.

take every second they can to delay the restart, here. Put some oxygen

:16:32.:16:38.

back in the tank before they tackle another wave of Hull attack.

:16:39.:16:41.

Collected by Mahe Fonua. Josh Bowden. Ploughing it forward.

:16:42.:16:58.

Every time he's come on in the Challenge Cup campaign, he's made a

:16:59.:17:02.

good impression, Josh Bowden. He was terrific in the quarterfinals in the

:17:03.:17:06.

game against Castleford, short ball away and bouncing away, Kelly,

:17:07.:17:09.

almost true, Tomkins hanging on. Danny Houghton appealing to the

:17:10.:17:13.

referee. Now he spends it away. Marc Sneyd with a couple of dummies and a

:17:14.:17:17.

step! They were ready. They were ready. So, Minichiello stand and

:17:18.:17:27.

wait at dummy half. Liam Watts, not much to work with. Marc Sneyd is up

:17:28.:17:33.

for the last tackle, directing it. The same tactic. Here it comes, the

:17:34.:17:38.

last play, Marc Sneyd steepling it hide. Where is it coming down? It

:17:39.:17:42.

has gone through several pairs of hands. It's all over the place.

:17:43.:17:50.

Gildart picks it up. My word. Knock-on. How difficult is that to

:17:51.:17:54.

defend against? You know every time exactly what happening. The only

:17:55.:18:00.

talent you have got, is it going long or short? That one was short

:18:01.:18:04.

and it caused absolute chaos. But credit to Wigan, they got player

:18:05.:18:08.

numbers around the ball to defuse the situation. Wigan have got to try

:18:09.:18:12.

to keep their discipline and try to keep Hull out of the 20 metre area

:18:13.:18:17.

because they are so dangerous. They will be very happy, Wigan, because

:18:18.:18:20.

they defended three good ball so they will take that as a plus. As

:18:21.:18:26.

Williams takes it towards the halfway line, Wigan have not crossed

:18:27.:18:31.

the white line so far. All of the game played inside the Wigan half

:18:32.:18:36.

until Liam Farrell. A great team effort by both sides, we mention

:18:37.:18:43.

Jamie Shaul, Kelly, Tomkins, Williams, but there has not been a

:18:44.:18:45.

standout yet apart from Marc Sneyd's kicking. Jamie Shaul. That is a good

:18:46.:18:53.

chase. A very good chase, holding him up to control the run so the

:18:54.:19:00.

defensive line is set. The sun is still shining, one corner of Wembley

:19:01.:19:03.

bathed. Liam Watts, looking down the

:19:04.:19:20.

blindside. That is smart because there are some easy yards to be had

:19:21.:19:25.

down there. Now they search left again. Tuimavave. Kick pressure now

:19:26.:19:33.

and it is a great place to do it, from the sideline. Wigan looking for

:19:34.:19:37.

their 20th Challenge Cup final win here today, record extending but

:19:38.:19:43.

what about this gig? Oh, yes! Oh, yes! What a fantastic kick that is

:19:44.:19:49.

from Marc Sneyd. I tell you what, Wigan switched off, there. They had

:19:50.:19:53.

an opportunity and it looks like nothing kick but it has ended up

:19:54.:19:59.

brilliant. Just watch. The kick pressure is there. That guy can

:20:00.:20:04.

shell peas with his left foot, he's absolutely sensational. Brilliant

:20:05.:20:09.

kick. So their tap restart has given Hull position, here. A new rule in

:20:10.:20:14.

the 40-20 this year, the attacking team gets the tap so on they go,

:20:15.:20:18.

Danny Houghton, going to Kelly, who looks on the inside. A poor pass to

:20:19.:20:25.

Kelly, he had no option rather than take it up himself. Danny Houghton,

:20:26.:20:29.

back to Liam Watts, Marc Sneyd, who has got numbers on the outside.

:20:30.:20:34.

Minichiello is there. So are the Wigan defence, in numbers.

:20:35.:20:40.

Now it is with Kelly. Griffin came at real pace and power but he was

:20:41.:20:48.

the only option. Kelly chose to try to go himself.

:20:49.:20:54.

Washbrook, getting closer and closer. Liam Watts is coming. Pick

:20:55.:21:03.

him up. The lasted into the hands of Kelly. They are going to run it and

:21:04.:21:07.

he has got the path the way to Mahe Fonua! And the ball is left behind

:21:08.:21:11.

on the floor, and he thinks he has scored. What a finish this will be

:21:12.:21:19.

if it is given. The referee wants to look at it again. We'll want to look

:21:20.:21:23.

at this again. It is a great path as well. -- we all want. By the

:21:24.:21:29.

reaction of the players, he's scored. REFEREE: We have the live

:21:30.:21:35.

decision of a dry and we are looking at the grounding. He is in

:21:36.:21:42.

possession. Remains in possession and in the field. Still in

:21:43.:21:48.

possession. Feet in the air. Retains possession. That is a try.

:21:49.:21:57.

They know what is coming next. Mahe Fonua is leaving at the end of the

:21:58.:22:06.

year and he is giving those Hull fans aid to reflect leaving present,

:22:07.:22:12.

to already today. Fantastic finish, wasn't it? But it was very, very

:22:13.:22:16.

clever play indeed, we were expecting Marc Sneyd's kick but they

:22:17.:22:20.

went to the short side and Kelly, four Kelly, four against four which

:22:21.:22:23.

created the space for Mahe Fonua to grasp at the sideline. That is the

:22:24.:22:30.

start, the 40-20 from Marc Sneyd was the start of the pressure that

:22:31.:22:33.

seemed inevitable to end up with a try. He is where they come, four

:22:34.:22:39.

against four, the off-load is there and over it goes. Great try, great

:22:40.:22:43.

decision to run the ball rather than kick it on the last play. We were

:22:44.:22:48.

all expecting a kick and so the Wigan players were, but they ran it,

:22:49.:22:52.

Kelly producing the X factor and he produces the finish. Magnificent. It

:22:53.:22:58.

is a brilliant pass, a brilliant pass, the 40-20 and then the

:22:59.:23:01.

brilliant pass by Kelly but what a finish, man on man, against your

:23:02.:23:04.

opposite number, Mahe Fonua comes out on top. Well, the momentum has

:23:05.:23:13.

really gone to the Black and Whites in the early part of the half. It

:23:14.:23:18.

has been all Hull in the second half. It has. They have come out

:23:19.:23:24.

firing, repeat sets, the kicking game has been good and they've taken

:23:25.:23:26.

the opportunity, brilliant start to the second half for Hull. Two out of

:23:27.:23:34.

two so far, ten out of ten in terms of his kicking performance all

:23:35.:23:38.

round, Marc Sneyd. I tell you what, this is a big kick.

:23:39.:23:45.

If he gets this over, his side have a two scored lead. Right off the

:23:46.:23:55.

touchline. He loves the kicking pressure, curling it in. Curling it

:23:56.:24:00.

in. That is why he loves the kicking pressure, because he is so, so good

:24:01.:24:07.

at it and 18-10, Hull FC now lead. What a left foot that fellow has

:24:08.:24:12.

got. Absolutely fantastic kicking in general play but Jonathan, what a

:24:13.:24:16.

great goalkicker as well. Yeah, I think he's controlling the game, the

:24:17.:24:20.

standout player so far. The kicks will be tried and for the 40-20, and

:24:21.:24:24.

crucially, the convergence, you know, could make the difference --

:24:25.:24:32.

conversions, you know, could make the difference. Tomkins with the

:24:33.:24:37.

restart, 18-10, Hull lead, 30 minutes of the cup final remaining.

:24:38.:24:52.

Liam Watts drives it in. The Hull fans in great voice, the old

:24:53.:25:08.

faithful, Lee crooks' kicking game in 1985, it still hurts that he

:25:09.:25:13.

missed so many conversions. He will be happy you brought that up. But

:25:14.:25:18.

the Hull gig of 2017 is banning them over. Great set by Hull, simple,

:25:19.:25:23.

effective, which the halfway, kick and look where Wigan have got to

:25:24.:25:27.

start. Some tired bodies wearing cherry and white at the minute, this

:25:28.:25:31.

dominance of possession and field position by Hull has put the

:25:32.:25:39.

pressure on Wigan after the first 11 minutes of the second half. They

:25:40.:25:41.

have certainly controlled these 11 minutes of the second half. They

:25:42.:25:44.

played a bit wider than I expected in the first half. The first 11

:25:45.:25:46.

minutes, they have gone back to basics. Bateman does well and gets a

:25:47.:25:55.

good pass away to Williams, and Williams... Well, Mahe Fonua came in

:25:56.:25:59.

to make a crunching effort on Gildart. The ball slips away from

:26:00.:26:04.

the Wigan man. They are claiming a Hull Dodge. Jon Wilkin said at

:26:05.:26:09.

half-time, you know what is going to happen, the wingers, the big,

:26:10.:26:12.

physical wingers are going to come in and hit you. He's outnumbered. He

:26:13.:26:16.

makes the call. He does not get the ball. But he foils Wigan once again,

:26:17.:26:23.

the two wingers defensively are very good. As the guys in the studio

:26:24.:26:27.

suggested, you need to hit the short ball, the lead runners come or go

:26:28.:26:30.

against the grain, stepping in, hitting inside passes. You can't

:26:31.:26:35.

keep doing that because you got no time or space to receive the ball.

:26:36.:26:39.

But if you know they are coming in, you have got to hold your depth. You

:26:40.:26:44.

have one eye on the winger, one on the ball. You've just got to manage

:26:45.:26:48.

the situation and make that beneficial to you so that you can

:26:49.:26:53.

get the pass away. But they have not counted it yet. The only way they

:26:54.:26:58.

have counted it is a show and go by Gildart but not using the long ball.

:26:59.:27:02.

They have to work it out, Wigan, because that is the only ploy they

:27:03.:27:08.

have. All of the noises coming from the Hull end at the moment. They

:27:09.:27:12.

can't get into the Hull half, can they, Wigan. No. They really can't.

:27:13.:27:22.

Danny Houghton waiting patiently at dummy half. Back to Marc Sneyd, in

:27:23.:27:31.

the angle, Tuimavave. That is where you go at Wigan now where they are

:27:32.:27:34.

tied because that middle unit have done a heck of a lot of tackling.

:27:35.:27:38.

Danny Houghton is bringing a way to Josh Bowden, pushing on a couple of

:27:39.:27:44.

defenders. A little impact, a little cameo from Josh Bowden, getting as a

:27:45.:27:53.

yard or two. -- and XDR. When Marc Sneyd steps up, Kelly goes on the

:27:54.:27:56.

fourth tackle. Last play, Marc Sneyd is waiting, a good kick, Marshall

:27:57.:28:01.

came out, the ball is knocked on, the referee, so I'll will get the

:28:02.:28:10.

head and feet. Was it Mahe Fonua or Burgess? It is Burgess. Well, a

:28:11.:28:14.

different kick once again, flatter. It really made it a one-on-one

:28:15.:28:21.

contest. Burgess has been ruled as knocking the ball forward. Let's see

:28:22.:28:26.

what happens. Every kick is a contest. I don't think that is a

:28:27.:28:31.

knock-on. It has gone backwards. Well, the guy in the middle does,

:28:32.:28:36.

and that is all that matters. Only one guy makes the call but I

:28:37.:28:40.

thought... Wigan are under the cosh needed a referee's or then as well.

:28:41.:28:45.

If Hull score in this set, I think they've got it, I really do and they

:28:46.:28:48.

are likely to because the Wigan Warriors are very tired, with all

:28:49.:28:52.

the defence they have done in the first 12 minutes, nearly 30 minutes

:28:53.:28:59.

of the half. Look at the growing excitement and anticipation from the

:29:00.:29:04.

black and white supporters. They consented, Dave, absolutely. Another

:29:05.:29:08.

key moment in the cup final. Hull with five tackles to go from here.

:29:09.:29:12.

Leading as they do 18-10. This is Chris Green. Danny Houghton

:29:13.:29:26.

it is. Options right and left. It is rolled and actually lost and that is

:29:27.:29:31.

an opportunity thrown away by Hull. Sloppy, very sloppy play. It is most

:29:32.:29:36.

unlike them. They got the head and feed because there was a Wigan hand

:29:37.:29:42.

in there, he has decided. John Bateman is not happy. Tony Clubb, it

:29:43.:29:47.

plays on his arm. That is not a knock-on by Wigan. Now Wigan have

:29:48.:29:51.

had two unlucky calls, I feel. That is not a knock-on. He should look.

:29:52.:29:57.

Tony Clubb has played the arm, not the ball. Exactly, and if they score

:29:58.:30:01.

from this, that could be controversial. Here is Tuimavave,

:30:02.:30:12.

Hull on the verge now, on the edge. Tuimavave put-down, Danny Houghton

:30:13.:30:16.

out of half. Now Marc Sneyd, offering it back for Josh Bowden,

:30:17.:30:21.

who is put down face first. He gets up and place. Danny Houghton is

:30:22.:30:25.

bringing out, into the hands of Liam Watts who will take on the line

:30:26.:30:28.

himself! Oh, it was close. That close. Oh, and the play-the-ball, a

:30:29.:30:37.

bit snappy. I'm not sure Danny Houghton was ready for that. Somehow

:30:38.:30:42.

they have still got the ball. Showing a great desire, Wigan, to

:30:43.:30:46.

defend but it must be taking it out of them but well done. Well done to

:30:47.:30:51.

them. I'm glad they are -- that nothing came of that decision

:30:52.:30:55.

because it was the wrong decision by the referee. But what has happened

:30:56.:30:59.

is it has taken lots of energy out of them. They look out on their

:31:00.:31:03.

feet, Wigan Warriors. I can understand why, in this heat and

:31:04.:31:06.

with that amount of pressure that they've had to absorb. Watch this,

:31:07.:31:10.

Gildart, Ben Marshall, they are all going to take it in, give the

:31:11.:31:15.

forwards a rest, try to get as far afield as they can and put in a

:31:16.:31:21.

good. There you go. Anthony Gelling, on the three quarters line, getting

:31:22.:31:25.

involved in heavy labour and now Sean O'Loughlin, looking to lift his

:31:26.:31:28.

side as captain. No support runners whatsoever. Not much in the tank at

:31:29.:31:31.

the moment. Leuluai, Hayat hopeful, Talanoa

:31:32.:31:46.

underneath it is safe as well. -- high and hopeful. I don't know if

:31:47.:31:50.

they should have rolled bat out of play to get some oxygen back into

:31:51.:31:53.

their lungs because they must be out on their feet. Minichiello.

:31:54.:32:01.

Tuimavave trying to push his man out of the way and pick it up again.

:32:02.:32:13.

Three plays to go in this set, Hull looking for distance down the field.

:32:14.:32:20.

Looking to win it back on the back foot again here. It's the last

:32:21.:32:26.

tackle, they have all three wingers and full-back back. Marshall wasn't

:32:27.:32:30.

sure whether to stick or twist. In the end he just slipped. Good for

:32:31.:32:37.

him. He has lost it, the ball has come out and Hull will get the ball

:32:38.:32:42.

back, the referee says, we will take the first knock-on. Hull get head

:32:43.:32:50.

and feet. The momentum is all with Hull. The decisions... He loses his

:32:51.:32:57.

footing first of all, he gets up, he's just got to take this in and

:32:58.:33:01.

take the tackle. He just panics a little. My word, there is some stick

:33:02.:33:11.

in that shot. I think it was Tuimavave who got his shoulder into

:33:12.:33:18.

Young Lea Marshall there. There is an element of confidence there. They

:33:19.:33:25.

feel the cup is coming home. On the evidence of this first 17 minutes of

:33:26.:33:30.

the second half you've got to say it's going up to Yorkshire. The boys

:33:31.:33:36.

spoke about experience in the studio. This is where the

:33:37.:33:42.

experience... Hull have lost possession, Danny Washbrook. This is

:33:43.:33:45.

it, when you've got someone and you need to put them away, they've made

:33:46.:33:50.

crucial errors now, unforced errors, Hull command Lee Radford will be

:33:51.:33:53.

thinking, I hope this doesn't come back to haunt us because you've got

:33:54.:34:01.

the experience. They've been let off the hook and now is an opportunity

:34:02.:34:05.

to get their breath back. That could be a pivotal moment, you are dead

:34:06.:34:14.

right. They were clinging on to the cliff. Here is Gildart. Motoring

:34:15.:34:18.

well just inside the Hull half, five tackles to go, 25 metres to cover.

:34:19.:34:30.

Burgess moves out of the way, McIlorum. McIlorum. O'Loughlin.

:34:31.:34:46.

Leuluai. Bateman. Wigan up and running. McIlorum stepping away from

:34:47.:34:50.

the debris of that tackle. Williams with the step. They have done a good

:34:51.:34:58.

job on George Williams. They have reached the sixth tackle, the last

:34:59.:35:04.

player, Leuluai's kick looks long. Poor decision, that should have been

:35:05.:35:10.

on the ground and a repeat set to recharge the battery. When you

:35:11.:35:12.

compare how Hull FC are finishing their sets to help Wigan are

:35:13.:35:17.

finishing their is therein lies the tale of the game. Here is Watts.

:35:18.:35:32.

Sean O'Loughlin going back out there has been really important to them,

:35:33.:35:38.

he has reenergised them in the middle channel. 12 months ago they

:35:39.:35:47.

were slaying the history, this year is all about building a legacy.

:35:48.:35:53.

Danny Houghton. Minichiello just pushing his way

:35:54.:35:56.

through the line but they are hanging on and Danny Houghton moves

:35:57.:36:00.

quickly into dummy half again. Here is Sneyd. Gareth Ellis. There we

:36:01.:36:08.

are. Sneyd off-loads. Stepping away from the oncoming Tony Clubb, gets

:36:09.:36:15.

the kick away, Marshall goes up and claims that. Really well. That is a

:36:16.:36:21.

confidence lift a. Well done, Marshall because he slipped and fell

:36:22.:36:26.

and lost the ball, that is not a comfortable position to be in and

:36:27.:36:27.

he's done really well. Leuluai. Bateman. Williams available

:36:28.:36:51.

inside on the pass and it was not expected by George Williams. The

:36:52.:36:58.

knock-on has lifted Hull hearts again. They get head and feet in an

:36:59.:37:06.

attacking position. The fatigue is a factor now, the lack of

:37:07.:37:10.

concentration, dropped passes. I'm sure if John Bateman wasn't quite as

:37:11.:37:14.

tired as he is, because he was on his haunches in the previous set, we

:37:15.:37:19.

would have seen him rip in with a carry rather than looking for the

:37:20.:37:24.

pass. This is Hull's to win now, it really is. They've got Wigan really,

:37:25.:37:31.

really under pressure. The feature of the 85 final when these two setup

:37:32.:37:40.

the classic is the comeback by Hull. Can Wigan produce a come back here?

:37:41.:37:43.

Doesn't look like it at the moment, does it? Until the next try is

:37:44.:37:51.

scored, which way it goes you can't say. Kelly. Here comes Shaul, the

:37:52.:37:55.

full-back, looking on the outside. It is going to be a Wembley

:37:56.:38:02.

hat-trick. If it is given. The referee is going to the big screen.

:38:03.:38:10.

What a huge moment this would be. He says no try on the field so Let's

:38:11.:38:17.

hear again from James Child. REFEREE: The line decision is no

:38:18.:38:24.

try, checking for an obstruction. We need to go back to the

:38:25.:38:27.

play-the-ball, let's look through the passing movement, looking for

:38:28.:38:33.

the option runner and the effect on the defence. Is the defence

:38:34.:38:37.

materially disadvantaged? We'd play it on now, that is OK. Play on

:38:38.:38:42.

through, looking at the next runner as he comes through. Keep Gelling. I

:38:43.:38:48.

think it is on this passage of play now. Here we are, contact by Griffin

:38:49.:38:53.

on the outside shoulder which impacts on Gildart, so that will be

:38:54.:39:00.

no try. I just need to confirm the position on the field. I think it is

:39:01.:39:05.

the 20 metre line, 20 metres from the try line. No try.

:39:06.:39:15.

COMMENTATOR: The Hull fans, here the referee, they are celebrating a try,

:39:16.:39:19.

Fonua thinks he has got the try. Putting the hold on the Hull

:39:20.:39:24.

celebrations, it is obstruction. It was obvious from the first play, he

:39:25.:39:30.

ran at Gildart's outside shoulder. I give credit to Oliver Gildart, he

:39:31.:39:34.

could have hit the deck and made it blatant but he actually tried to

:39:35.:39:39.

work his way to get at the runner. If he doesn't get blocked he gets to

:39:40.:39:43.

Shaul and Burgess sticks on Fonua and they don't score. The right

:39:44.:39:52.

decision. Now they need to settle and get a repeat set. They need

:39:53.:39:57.

repeat sets and to spend sometime in the Hull half. Because, Hull have

:39:58.:40:02.

been totally dominant in the second half. The only saving grace is they

:40:03.:40:05.

have not scored yet and then the try. There is an age left in this

:40:06.:40:11.

cup tie. Look at that territory in the second half. You would think

:40:12.:40:16.

they have scored enough points from the possession and dominance they

:40:17.:40:21.

have had. Total dominance. One try. Just one try in the second half.

:40:22.:40:28.

Leuluai back to O'Loughlin. Penalty for Wigan. That's what they wanted.

:40:29.:40:35.

Penalty for Wigan. They can really have a go at Howell now. The fatigue

:40:36.:40:43.

will set in four Hull as well. Bateman. They need to work off the

:40:44.:40:48.

ball. To offer options and push to take defenders off the ball. At

:40:49.:40:54.

dummy half it's a big effort, over the line! Tony Clubb claiming it one

:40:55.:41:00.

way or another. He might go to the video referee. And then he touched

:41:01.:41:09.

it down. REFEREE: We have no try, could you check on the play of the

:41:10.:41:12.

ball. We are checking on how the ball came

:41:13.:41:17.

out. Live call, no try, checking how the ball comes out. Is the ball lost

:41:18.:41:28.

or is it stolen? Clubb attempted to go over. Can't see the ball, there

:41:29.:41:37.

it is, there is the ball, I don't have a clear view of how that comes

:41:38.:41:44.

out on that shot. Tuimavave is on the ball. OK, do we have another

:41:45.:41:50.

angle? So there is two players in the

:41:51.:42:08.

tackle. We see the ball as he attempts to turnover, Clubb attempts

:42:09.:42:12.

to turn over and the ball comes out. I need to see whether it is pulled

:42:13.:42:17.

out or whether he loses it. So, he attempts to roll over. He is in

:42:18.:42:24.

possession. In possession. The ball comes out.

:42:25.:42:34.

OK, so Tuimavave is here, he is on the ball. Is there a clear pull on

:42:35.:42:53.

the ball? In my view he is on the ball but I don't think he pulls the

:42:54.:42:58.

ball. Have we got another angle on that? OK. So, as Clubb turns over

:42:59.:43:10.

and Tuimavave is on the ball to me there is no clear pulling action and

:43:11.:43:14.

to me it's as much Clubb turning it in attempting to score. It will be a

:43:15.:43:21.

knock-on and 20 metre restart. COMMENTATOR: Well, you heard the

:43:22.:43:33.

explanation. Tony Clubb denied. They can't believe it. He can't believe

:43:34.:43:40.

it. You can hear the explanation there but you can disagree with it.

:43:41.:43:44.

It is a big call. It is the wrong call in my mind, no doubt. I think

:43:45.:43:49.

it was a steel as well. You would have given a try? Yes. I would. I

:43:50.:43:57.

thought Tuimavave pulled the ball out. It is always difficult with try

:43:58.:44:02.

scoring, what is the defender going to do? But on that occasion I think

:44:03.:44:06.

he stole it. Hull survive with their 8-point lead. They have a penalty

:44:07.:44:11.

year as well. That's frustration from Clubb will stop just a little

:44:12.:44:24.

high. What a story that would have been, Tony Clubb, thought his career

:44:25.:44:29.

was over in April and very nearly eight Wembley try scorer, Challenge

:44:30.:44:32.

Cup final try scorer, but denied that moment of glory. How often do

:44:33.:44:39.

we see this, you don't get a try, you are under pressure, the odds of

:44:40.:44:44.

scoring on this set of six. I think that penalty was born out of

:44:45.:44:50.

frustration. At the moment, no try or not, it has proved this cup final

:44:51.:44:56.

is still alive. Hull not able to rest on their laurels. Minichiello.

:44:57.:45:00.

O'Loughlin comes flying out. Minichiello rides the tackle. Here

:45:01.:45:11.

is Kelly. Danny Houghton to Green. Chris Green pounding it forward.

:45:12.:45:20.

Eight metres away. Hampton to Kelly. Kelly to Shaul who cannot find a way

:45:21.:45:26.

through because of those Wigan defenders. Here comes that last play

:45:27.:45:32.

again. -- Houghton. The big fellows are after it and it is Gelling who

:45:33.:45:36.

has lost it but he is impeded in midair. It is a penalty for Wigan.

:45:37.:45:46.

Yes, I think he pushed Marshall. It was a simple block and then you can

:45:47.:45:51.

see here, Tuimavave, there was a push on Marshall and that interferes

:45:52.:45:54.

with Gelling catching the ball as well. The danger signals, once on

:45:55.:46:05.

the last tackle. Gelling. The first man to carry it forward. For all of

:46:06.:46:18.

the dominance in the second half, Hull have had, distillate final in

:46:19.:46:24.

the balance. Farrell with a lovely pass out to Burgess who puts his

:46:25.:46:27.

head down and knew he would be tackled and tried to get the ball

:46:28.:46:34.

away. Great angles by the full-back. He backed his pace, showed him the

:46:35.:46:39.

outside, picked the spot on the touchline and nailed him. That was a

:46:40.:46:44.

great tackle from Jamie Shaul. He is confident in his space. Joe Burgess

:46:45.:46:50.

knows he will be caught, tries to get the ball inside but he has

:46:51.:46:55.

wrapped up that ball carrying on, magnificent covering tackle from

:46:56.:46:59.

Jamie Shaul. I still think there is a moment of magic in this, when you

:47:00.:47:05.

look at the players, Williams, Tomkins, Shaul, Kelly. It has been a

:47:06.:47:12.

great game. You've got to applaud the Wigan Warriors, simply their

:47:13.:47:14.

courage and their determination and their desire to stay in this game.

:47:15.:47:18.

Yeah. So, Hull with some heavy labour to

:47:19.:47:38.

get away. I wonder what the nerves are black watching on from both

:47:39.:47:45.

sides. I don't think it's too bad yet. Depending on which way the next

:47:46.:47:52.

try goes. Quick hands and good hands as well. Pulled down and dragged in.

:47:53.:48:03.

Sneyd not looking for anything clever on that occasion. He just

:48:04.:48:08.

wanted to finish there and put Wigan on the back foot and he has achieved

:48:09.:48:12.

that starting with head and feet, 15 metres from their own line. While

:48:13.:48:20.

there is two sculls in it they can afford to do that, they will get

:48:21.:48:25.

oxygen back into their lungs, they have a set in hand. It is a smart

:48:26.:48:30.

move. -- scores Mac in it. Preparing for another burst of Old

:48:31.:48:50.

Faithful, From The Supporters. This has been a good final, a really good

:48:51.:48:55.

final. Like you say, you get a sense that there is a twist to come. There

:48:56.:49:02.

is something yet to happen in the 12 and a bit of minutes that remain.

:49:03.:49:09.

Certainly not settled just yet. Williams. It is in a Hull hand. I

:49:10.:49:21.

don't think the referee picked that up. Here is Farrell.

:49:22.:49:28.

Marshall. There was an air of desperation about that play from

:49:29.:49:31.

Wigan. The referee has not seen that, he's continued the tackle

:49:32.:49:35.

count, this is tackle five, the last tackle. Tomkins is the man on the

:49:36.:49:44.

inside. They are going through hands again. Williams. Gildart, Shaul,

:49:45.:49:50.

collect is off the bounce, how good is the return from Jamie Shaul?

:49:51.:49:53.

There is an air of desperation in Wigan. There is plenty of time on

:49:54.:49:59.

the clock. I think both teams have been really high-quality. I think

:50:00.:50:04.

they have. The difference has been the end of the set. Sneyd's has been

:50:05.:50:13.

first-class. Wigan's has been a bit scratchy. Out of dummy half. Taylor

:50:14.:50:22.

galloping on. Houghton. Again the noises coming from the Hull fans,

:50:23.:50:27.

the Wigan fans sitting and watching, hoping. Little their side can do

:50:28.:50:33.

here other than tackle. Here is Green. The tackle number five put

:50:34.:50:37.

down 35 metres out, looking for the touchline. A similar script again,

:50:38.:50:42.

put it out of play as far away from their own line as possible and Hull

:50:43.:50:47.

know they can just defend this set of six. He's doing what all good

:50:48.:50:50.

half-backs should do, managing the game in his team's favour and it is

:50:51.:50:55.

really good, clever play from the number seven for Hull FC Marc Sneyd.

:50:56.:51:00.

They desperately need a line break now, Wigan. They have not had one in

:51:01.:51:04.

the second half. They have played everything from their own 20 metres

:51:05.:51:10.

area because of the dominance of Hull. They need something special to

:51:11.:51:16.

happen. George Williams, Tomkins. I am with you, Jonathan, the vast

:51:17.:51:20.

majority of Wigan's set starts have been within their own 20 metres.

:51:21.:51:25.

Very few sets have started at midfield or deep in Hull's half.

:51:26.:51:30.

Trying to move quickly downfield here. Just short of the 40 metre

:51:31.:51:38.

mark. Bateman will take it in now as well. Shoving LS out of the way,

:51:39.:51:47.

McIlorum. Leuluai. Williams. Tomkins chiming in with a little step but

:51:48.:51:51.

look at the numbers in Black and White that surround the Wigan

:51:52.:52:00.

full-back. O'Loughlin. Williams. Leuluai's kick. Marshall is on the

:52:01.:52:06.

chase. It is a poor kick. Marshall told Leuluai to put it through, he

:52:07.:52:12.

was on the hoof but the kick was overcooked. The weighting was just

:52:13.:52:18.

wrong. He needed to pull up in the field of play. Even in the in-goal

:52:19.:52:25.

area it would have been a repeat set. He just didn't want to put it

:52:26.:52:31.

over the touchline. With the draining nature of this final, Wigan

:52:32.:52:36.

wanted the referee to stop the clock. There was a real effort

:52:37.:52:39.

required, you could see in the body language of the Wigan players

:52:40.:52:42.

dragging their bodies there before he stopped the clock. Moments of

:52:43.:52:46.

contemplation from those in Cherry and White. You tend to find that

:52:47.:52:54.

when the weather is like this, the team that has the most ball wins the

:52:55.:53:00.

game and that's been Hull FC by a fair amount. Tuimavave put down.

:53:01.:53:13.

Connor for Hull. Playing in his first cup final today, Jake Connor.

:53:14.:53:25.

Danny Houghton. Here is Taylor. Watts stepping. He has the

:53:26.:53:28.

wherewithal to roll the ball away again. Taylor and Watts are

:53:29.:53:37.

outstanding forwards. They not only carry the ball well but they ask

:53:38.:53:43.

other questions as well with their off-loads and pre-line play. Awkward

:53:44.:53:49.

for Marshall. Does he let it roll? It has not gone out of play. That

:53:50.:53:53.

was an inch perfect kick from Sneyd and it made the job of Marshall even

:53:54.:53:58.

more difficult. A very good kick. Is he working his way to a second Lance

:53:59.:54:10.

Todd Trophy here? For me, yes. Only one man has done it before, Paul

:54:11.:54:20.

Wellens. Penalty for Wigan. Now then. Field position. They need the

:54:21.:54:26.

tempo picking up here, a good long kick, which it isn't really. They

:54:27.:54:30.

needed to get more yards on that one and now they need the tempo picking

:54:31.:54:41.

up. So, a set of six for Wigan from which they need to score. Hull, you

:54:42.:54:46.

fancy, will consider surviving this set as inching them, perhaps,

:54:47.:54:52.

unstoppably close to lifting the Challenge Cup for a second

:54:53.:55:01.

successive year. 20 yards away. O'Loughlin. Leuluai. Hull's defence

:55:02.:55:05.

came out quickly. Leuluai try to punch in the hole that was left.

:55:06.:55:13.

Here is O'Loughlin. Powell. Again the defence is out really quickly.

:55:14.:55:18.

Yeah, the defence of Hull FC has been exceptional.

:55:19.:55:26.

O'Loughlin going for the big paths to Farrell and now they have some

:55:27.:55:29.

numbers with a wonderful ball away and Joe Burgess has just ignited

:55:30.:55:36.

this cup final again. A try in the corner. There is not that long left

:55:37.:55:43.

but there might be long enough left. We knew they had a lot of character.

:55:44.:55:49.

They have piled in in the second half at that penalty gave them field

:55:50.:55:53.

position and it was a beautiful pass by Farrell that but Burgess over.

:55:54.:55:58.

That was a great shift, from one side of the field to the other. Was

:55:59.:56:07.

his foot on the line? That might be one where Wigan got away with it.

:56:08.:56:13.

There is the field position, ask the question of the right side, but what

:56:14.:56:17.

a lovely pass from Sean O'Loughlin and a great pass once again across

:56:18.:56:21.

the face of defenders to Burgess. They shifted in there. They could

:56:22.:56:25.

have pushed, lovely long pass. I think they panicked, they could have

:56:26.:56:32.

pushed, the first defensive mistake Fonua has done. That was a brilliant

:56:33.:56:42.

pass to unlock the defence. That wasn't the half-backs, that was the

:56:43.:56:52.

loose forwards. Williams' kick. He has put it wide. 18-14.

:56:53.:56:56.

I'm not sure if you can feel the atmosphere through the TV screen but

:56:57.:57:03.

it's amazing down here, both sets of fans going crazy. Everyone has

:57:04.:57:07.

everything to play for, keep your eyes glued to your TV sets.

:57:08.:57:13.

There is not much of a breath to be had inside Wembley Stadium at the

:57:14.:57:16.

moment because of the heat and closeness but it is a case of hold

:57:17.:57:20.

your breath now for the five and a half minutes that remain. Wigan have

:57:21.:57:27.

fought back but Hull still have fingertips wrapped around that

:57:28.:57:34.

trophy. Discipline for Hull. Discipline is the key now. Gildart

:57:35.:57:40.

picks up and has a go. He keeps the ball alive in an untidy fashion and

:57:41.:57:44.

here is Marshall on the right-hand side. He didn't fancy the outside

:57:45.:57:49.

root. Safety first for the young winger. They might as well take the

:57:50.:57:52.

odds now because it doesn't matter how many you lose by. They are

:57:53.:57:58.

keeping it up. O'Loughlin over the top, batted on, here is Burgess

:57:59.:58:02.

again, Burgess with the kick. Why has he kicked? The chase is on, easy

:58:03.:58:07.

pick-up for Danny Houghton and Hull will be very happy with that. On the

:58:08.:58:12.

second tackle he had no need to kick, they were all coming across.

:58:13.:58:15.

He just had to take the tackle and come back this way. I think that has

:58:16.:58:20.

cost Wigan any chance of the Challenge Cup. It really has. There

:58:21.:58:29.

was Burgess there on the wing. As you rightly say, the Hull defence

:58:30.:58:36.

was shot, they were scrambling, they just needed to play. It was a

:58:37.:58:41.

brilliant pass. It was and a lovely play by Gildart, so why on play two.

:58:42.:58:49.

He just had to come in away from the touchline attack the inside arm of

:58:50.:58:58.

Kelly and take the tackle. There were so many black-and-white players

:58:59.:59:03.

back there. It is a brilliant scramble defence. Brilliant scramble

:59:04.:59:07.

defence by Hull. But he had to hold the ball and come back this way and

:59:08.:59:09.

go away from the traffic. Gareth Ellis concerned with the back

:59:10.:59:33.

of his neck here. There may well be the possibility that that was

:59:34.:59:36.

dangerous contact. That's not intentional. That is Liam Farrell.

:59:37.:59:52.

Jamie Jones-Buchanan talked how about how difficult it is not to go

:59:53.:59:59.

down. He stayed on his feet, he didn't drop to his knees, I think

:00:00.:00:04.

that is just play on. I hope he is OK. Player's health is important.

:00:05.:00:18.

The last Challenge Cup final, as we have said, for Gareth Ellis. He will

:00:19.:00:23.

want to see it to the finish. Yes, he will, and he's made a good

:00:24.:00:27.

contribution as well. There is four minutes and 33 seconds left. There

:00:28.:00:34.

is still a cup final to be won and lost. Is there another twist in the

:00:35.:00:40.

tail? He is OK. The clock was stopped throughout that so four and

:00:41.:00:47.

a half minutes to play. It's been simmering nicely throughout the

:00:48.:00:51.

afternoon. Is it coming to a boil now? It has been a great game.

:00:52.:00:58.

Unless you are actually here, the heat is unbelievable and for them on

:00:59.:01:03.

both teams, putting the effort in has been fantastic and it's been a

:01:04.:01:06.

really good rugby league Challenge Cup final. Big kick here, go for the

:01:07.:01:14.

40-20. McIlorum came racing out. Sneyd still got some distance on the

:01:15.:01:17.

ball but not the direction he might have wanted. It is taken by Marshall

:01:18.:01:21.

who runs it back. Marshall almost slipping away. Five tackles to go in

:01:22.:01:28.

the set. Gelling springing into life.

:01:29.:01:34.

They might have two sets, this one and one more, maybe. Farrell. They

:01:35.:01:42.

have just got to play, you know, off-load, move the ball about.

:01:43.:01:47.

Bateman, damaging limbs and lungs with his effort as he takes it to

:01:48.:01:52.

within 40 of the Hull line. Hull's defenders desperate to hang on.

:01:53.:01:55.

O'Loughlin in the middle of the field, where he loves to be.

:01:56.:02:01.

McIlorum out to the right hand side. Anthony Gelling has it again, stops,

:02:02.:02:05.

starters, starts again, almost fool them but not in the end, Talanoa

:02:06.:02:10.

makes the tackle. This is a big play. On the sixth, Leuluai goes

:02:11.:02:16.

left to O'Loughlin, now it is a run by Williams. Almost! Wigan, inches

:02:17.:02:22.

from the line. That is how close it is. Now, then, a big set for Hull.

:02:23.:02:28.

Hold possession and just watch the Wigan defenders come here. They've

:02:29.:02:31.

got them in their corner and they will be flying into the Hull

:02:32.:02:35.

ball-carriers now. Great place to turn the ball over. What a tackle.

:02:36.:02:40.

We had that great individual moment with Danny Houghton, tackle 52 and

:02:41.:02:45.

all of that but that is more of a team effort. Watch this line speed

:02:46.:02:53.

now. Wigan tried to force a mistake. Hull want to keep it safe. Beside

:02:54.:03:01.

himself, Lee Radford. Hull looking to blast it away. Wigan will get the

:03:02.:03:08.

ball back. But when, where and how is the big question. Minichiello.

:03:09.:03:15.

Trying to make the yard. He's left a man on the floor as well. Do they

:03:16.:03:21.

have dispute for ten metres? Tuimavave gets further. Hull have

:03:22.:03:26.

done well here. Covered some distance. Done so well, the 40 metre

:03:27.:03:31.

line-out. From the position they were in, right in the corner.

:03:32.:03:36.

Brilliant. A big kick to come in and of Kelly who hammers it downfield.

:03:37.:03:41.

As he found touch? He has and Wigan will -- to form a scrum and get the

:03:42.:03:46.

referee to stop the clock and they know that this will be their last

:03:47.:03:52.

chance -- Wigan will dash back to form. The clock has stopped, a

:03:53.:03:55.

minute and 45 which is more than enough for a full set of six but

:03:56.:03:59.

they have they got it left in them to go 90 metres? And Marc Sneyd is

:04:00.:04:05.

the Lance Todd Trophy winner today, we can confirm that. For the first

:04:06.:04:12.

time since Paul Wellens did it in 2006 and 2007, he is a back-to-back

:04:13.:04:17.

Lance Todd Trophy winner. He's deserved it, he really has, and

:04:18.:04:20.

because he has controlled the game, the end of the sets have been

:04:21.:04:24.

superb, he's caused all sorts of problems with his kicking, been

:04:25.:04:28.

absolutely fantastic, Marc Sneyd, but the game is not over yet. Not

:04:29.:04:33.

over yet. The last role of the dice. This is a deciding set of six, you

:04:34.:04:40.

feel. Wigan with six tackles, make that five, and still, 90 metres to

:04:41.:04:46.

cover. That is what Kelly's kick gave them the problem, if you're

:04:47.:04:50.

going to school, you've got to go 90 metres, against a tough, aggressive,

:04:51.:04:56.

energised defence. They might be out on their feet, Hull, but they will

:04:57.:05:00.

lift here in defence but Williams and Gildart, Gildart coming in.

:05:01.:05:06.

Decent play. The defence has been good from Hull today. O'Loughlin,

:05:07.:05:11.

spinning it along the line, Powell, to Leuluai, to don good, quick hands

:05:12.:05:15.

away, here comes Marshall but a very narrow corridor in which to run and

:05:16.:05:19.

the Hull defenders make it narrower still as come across. Two plays to

:05:20.:05:26.

go. Leuluai, Tomkins. They searched on the left, they search on the

:05:27.:05:33.

left. Oh! That is forward! It is a forward pass! The Wigan fans are

:05:34.:05:36.

celebrating. Burgess Dodi had every right to celebrate but the ball was

:05:37.:05:42.

flicked forward and that is a decision which surely confirms the

:05:43.:05:49.

cup is Hull's. -- Burgess thought he had. What a fantastic game we have

:05:50.:05:53.

bad and when you think how close the teams have been, it is illustrated

:05:54.:05:58.

here, a great pass, palmed forward, just, let's not make any bones about

:05:59.:06:04.

it, it was forward, the officials on the field got it exactly right but

:06:05.:06:09.

what a final we have had. Again, defence, look at it, he makes a

:06:10.:06:14.

decision. He causes Williams, he can't take and give the ball again,

:06:15.:06:18.

the Hull defence have come up trumps and a great finish by Wigan, they

:06:19.:06:21.

threw everything at them but they have just fallen short. What a game.

:06:22.:06:28.

25 seconds to go. But Hull in possession. Lee Radford... This will

:06:29.:06:36.

not be going far, this ball. And we play the ball will be slow, I would

:06:37.:06:42.

suggest, Jonathan. One, maybe two. Here we go. Two sets of forwards

:06:43.:06:48.

packed together for the last time today. Hull in possession. They hope

:06:49.:06:54.

to bring this game to its conclusion. Danny Houghton. Wigan

:06:55.:07:01.

are trying to dislodge the ball. Thomas Leuluai throws himself at it

:07:02.:07:04.

but it is still Hull who have it. Seven seconds to go. Slowly by

:07:05.:07:13.

Taylor. A step on the inside by Talanoa. The hooter has sounded by

:07:14.:07:19.

Talanoa is three! The daily Talanoa can finish with a hat-trick but

:07:20.:07:25.

unselfishly he goes to Taylor, who will take the tackle underneath the

:07:26.:07:32.

sticks. Gareth Ellis leads with delight. Hull have won the cup final

:07:33.:07:37.

for the second year in a row. Who do, well and truly gone. I think it

:07:38.:07:42.

was a brilliant game of rugby league and I think Hull have deserved that

:07:43.:07:47.

result on the second half performance, they dominated

:07:48.:07:50.

possession and territory and unfortunately, they could not get

:07:51.:07:53.

another try from all of the pressure but what a great comeback by Wigan

:07:54.:07:59.

as well and the last forward pass was the difference. Fantastic final

:08:00.:08:03.

for rugby league. It has been a fantastic final, it is a game of

:08:04.:08:07.

inches and those inches, with that forward pass, absolutely fantastic,

:08:08.:08:11.

two teams who have given absolutely every thing, high-quality, high

:08:12.:08:14.

everything. Let's go to the touchline where we are with the

:08:15.:08:16.

winning coach. Lee Radford, many congratulations,

:08:17.:08:26.

twice either grow. Sounds good, music to the ears, fantastic effort

:08:27.:08:29.

and I said at half-time, the boys don't give in, it was going to go to

:08:30.:08:32.

the 80th minute and that is instilled in them from the coach

:08:33.:08:35.

downwards and they did not disappoint. We had to fight for

:08:36.:08:38.

everything today. We went into a shell a bit in the last ten minutes,

:08:39.:08:43.

on the edge of my seat slightly but a special effort, special group,

:08:44.:08:46.

special supporters, special club. What was the last couple of minutes

:08:47.:08:51.

like? They thought they had an equalising try. Some phenomenal

:08:52.:08:56.

efforts, the tackle 52 standout but there's been a couple of those

:08:57.:09:00.

today. That is what working for one another gets you, results. What an

:09:01.:09:06.

achievement from Marc Sneyd, Lance Todd Trophy winner for the second

:09:07.:09:10.

year running. Probably the most criticised half-back the club has

:09:11.:09:14.

ever had and win two Lance Todd Trophy is a phenomenal effort from a

:09:15.:09:17.

phenomenal player. You can't defend against some of his kicking. You

:09:18.:09:22.

can't, as much as you try, he's got it on a string and a good kicking

:09:23.:09:27.

coach, I've done a bit myself! No, he's a phenomenal player.

:09:28.:09:32.

Congratulations, well done. A big hug from the coach will Marc Sneyd,

:09:33.:09:36.

the Lance Todd Trophy winner. Put into words your feelings right now.

:09:37.:09:40.

It is hard again. Unbelievable again. -- unbelievable effort. It's

:09:41.:09:47.

great. Your heart must have been enormous towards the end of the game

:09:48.:09:50.

when it looked like they'd equalised late on. It did but... Yeah, I don't

:09:51.:09:57.

know. I don't think anyone will take it away from us. Unbelievable. Tell

:09:58.:10:01.

me about your kicking game because you were once going to be a

:10:02.:10:07.

footballer, weren't you? It was an option, I suppose but obviously, I'm

:10:08.:10:10.

over the moon for days like this in rugby. It's a dream. You had to do

:10:11.:10:14.

it the hard way, this was even tougher than last year in many ways.

:10:15.:10:19.

For the last two years, we have won it two years on the bounce and had

:10:20.:10:24.

the toughest runs possible. Like I said, no one can take it away from

:10:25.:10:27.

us. We have earned everything we have got. Here is your champagne.

:10:28.:10:29.

Enjoy! Scott, what does that feel like?

:10:30.:10:41.

Unbelievable. I generally don't... I mean, last year I did not have much

:10:42.:10:45.

left in the tank. But the boys, that was tough, the toughest game I've

:10:46.:10:51.

played in my life, to the death, to the last minute, so we made it hard

:10:52.:10:55.

for ourselves but to go back to back, and all of my family are here,

:10:56.:11:02.

20-30, to see the team do that, unbelievable. I know how special it

:11:03.:11:05.

was the last year but back-to-back Challenge Cups, what is it like?

:11:06.:11:10.

Unbelievable, the great teams do that, lots of teams win one but to

:11:11.:11:13.

go back to back you have do have a special group and we've put

:11:14.:11:16.

ourselves in history now and there's still more trophies to play for this

:11:17.:11:20.

year so we're buzzing. You are going for the double? Why not? Gareth

:11:21.:11:30.

Ellis, the Hull captain is with us. What a way to end your time in the

:11:31.:11:33.

Challenge Cup. Unbelievable and nothing more than the team and the

:11:34.:11:36.

club deserves. I thought we worked really hard today, Wigan made it

:11:37.:11:38.

tough but I thought we were the better team and we dug it when we

:11:39.:11:41.

needed to and I'm glad when the whistle went at the end and we were

:11:42.:11:45.

on the right side of the result. You seem to turn the screw especially in

:11:46.:11:48.

the second half against teams in the Challenge Cup. How does it work? I

:11:49.:11:52.

don't know, I thought we were outstanding, we seem to save our

:11:53.:11:55.

best performances for the Challenge Cup, we've done it again this year

:11:56.:11:58.

with the tough teams in the run-up and it has served as well because

:11:59.:12:02.

the effort and togetherness was unbelievable today. With all the

:12:03.:12:05.

success you have had in the game, how does this compare? It's right up

:12:06.:12:10.

there, amazing to retire in a couple of weeks and the dream was to finish

:12:11.:12:15.

up there and I've got the opportunity to do that today and the

:12:16.:12:18.

season goes on as well, my fairy tale continues. They made it ten you

:12:19.:12:23.

towards the end, Wigan. They did and that is Wigan, they stay in the

:12:24.:12:27.

game, they never let the scoreboard get away from them and they would

:12:28.:12:29.

give themselves a chance with the great players they have got on the

:12:30.:12:32.

field and they made us work hard for it today. A word about Marc Sneyd,

:12:33.:12:37.

winning the Lance Todd Trophy for the second year running, not many

:12:38.:12:41.

people have done that, what an achievement. Outstanding, he

:12:42.:12:44.

controlled the game really well, his kicking game was superb, his kicking

:12:45.:12:47.

for gold is unbelievable, he's a great asset for us and we're lucky

:12:48.:12:52.

to have him, a matchwinner. Well done, Gareth, congratulations.

:12:53.:12:56.

Sean, did you think your site had done it in the last few seconds? I

:12:57.:13:02.

thought we had a chance but I'm not sure we deserved it. The

:13:03.:13:05.

distribution in the second half was not good enough. Clicking on the

:13:06.:13:09.

full, penalties on last place, we gave ourselves a lot to do. We did

:13:10.:13:12.

not put them under enough pressure in the second half. Quite rightly,

:13:13.:13:18.

they are the winners. Was it just the final decision-making, do you

:13:19.:13:23.

think, from your team today? Yes, we make a line break, we kick it out,

:13:24.:13:26.

we needed to build pressure and we did not do it enough in the second

:13:27.:13:29.

half to win a game of this magnitude. You need to be smart with

:13:30.:13:33.

your last played and get to the end of your sets and we did not do that

:13:34.:13:36.

in the second half. What did you think of the Tony Clubb try? Should

:13:37.:13:41.

it have been given? I did not understand that. He said they

:13:42.:13:46.

dropped it and I thought it was a poor goal but I don't want it to

:13:47.:13:49.

take away from what Hull did, they deserve to win the game so I'm not

:13:50.:13:52.

saying we should have won the game because we were not good at the day.

:13:53.:13:56.

You have to pick the guys up quickly because you cannot afford to lose a

:13:57.:13:59.

game if you're going to make the top four. We don't need motivation for

:14:00.:14:03.

the St Helens game, it is a big game for us but I've got a strong group

:14:04.:14:11.

and they will does themselves down. They will be gutted with what

:14:12.:14:13.

they've dished up today. I'm proud of them but we will turn up on

:14:14.:14:18.

Friday. Thank you for your time. COMMENTATOR: Anthony Gelling GDB

slow walk up the steps in a little cluster, 12 ahead of him. Thomas

:14:23.:14:28.

Leuluai dragging himself up there. This is the walk that nobody wants

:14:29.:14:31.

to do at the end of an exhausting Challenge Cup final. For every

:14:32.:14:33.

winner, there has to be a loser. Thomas Leuluai, whose dad lost here

:14:34.:14:44.

in 1985, playing for Hull, and now he is experiencing that against that

:14:45.:14:48.

opposition, but for the other side. Liam Marshall bringing up the rear.

:14:49.:15:11.

What a day he's had. A roller-coaster of emotions. Did not

:15:12.:15:13.

know he was going to be playing this morning and was called in half an

:15:14.:15:19.

hour before the kick-off. Selfies, the modern phenomenon. Marc Sneyd is

:15:20.:15:27.

here again. So, commiserations as they go along the line and collect

:15:28.:15:30.

their loser's medals. Joe Burgess, going through there as

:15:31.:15:50.

well. What a fairy tale he almost had today. But almost does not mend

:15:51.:16:01.

broken heart, does it? Tony Clubb, what an amazing year. Sean

:16:02.:16:04.

O'Loughlin, slowly making his way up there, the Wigan skipper. And the

:16:05.:16:08.

Lance Todd Trophy winner, they've been giving this award away since

:16:09.:16:16.

1946. Not many have won it twice. And even fewer have won it in

:16:17.:16:21.

back-to-back finals, just the two, Paul Wellens in 2006 and 2007 and

:16:22.:16:27.

now Marc Sneyd in 2016 and 2017. If you want to hear the story of the

:16:28.:16:31.

incredible Lance Todd, by the way, have a listen to the BBC Rugby

:16:32.:16:34.

league podcast from last week because it is an incredible tale. It

:16:35.:16:40.

is a great individual honour. For someone who is a great individual

:16:41.:16:45.

player. He stamped his authority, his kicking game onto two Challenge

:16:46.:17:00.

Cup finals now. Ellery Hanley won that particular trophy back in 1989.

:17:01.:17:07.

Adam Pearson, the owner. Well, he will have to go down and then come

:17:08.:17:12.

all the way back up again. There's a little raw, a little one from the

:17:13.:17:18.

Hull fans. "Yeah, That's great but we want to see the big, decorative

:17:19.:17:21.

thing. That is what we really came for". What a day he had as well,

:17:22.:17:29.

didn't he? Mahe Fonua, two drives. Gareth Ellis -- two tries. Gareth

:17:30.:17:40.

Ellis, what a way to partially end your career, for Gareth Ellis and he

:17:41.:17:45.

still hopes there is a Grand Final to come at the end of it as well.

:17:46.:17:49.

But in terms of the Challenge Cup, this great domestic knockout Trophy,

:17:50.:17:53.

the oldest knockout trophy in the world, he will finish that

:17:54.:17:55.

particular chapter of his career on a high.

:17:56.:18:00.

Well, last year, they were making history. This year, they are making

:18:01.:18:13.

it a habit! Gareth Ellis lift the trophy, to spark a second year of

:18:14.:18:20.

celebration for Hull SC. They used to say they could not win at

:18:21.:18:25.

Wembley. -- Hull FC. And now they can't stop winning at Wembley. Danny

:18:26.:18:29.

Houghton collect and celebrate as well. You're coming home! Mark

:18:30.:18:35.

Minichiello just behind as well. A big grin from him. Scott Taylor as

:18:36.:18:49.

well, the third time he's been up there as a winner, once with Wigan,

:18:50.:18:52.

and now twice with his hometown club of Hull. "One Of our own", the whole

:18:53.:18:58.

fans love to chance when he is in his pomp. -- Hull fans. Liam Watts

alongside him. Bitter memories of the 2013 final buried now. And for

:19:08.:19:16.

the very first time, it goes along the line.

:19:17.:19:22.

Lee crooks and Garry Schofield, legends in that 85 final, plenty to

:19:23.:19:34.

smile about today. Josh Bowden has had an impact in this competition,

:19:35.:19:37.

one way or another. Josh Griffin, who was playing in the

:19:38.:19:52.

million pound game last year, two miraculous performances do Salford

:19:53.:19:56.

survive and here he is at the back end of this season, in a Challenge

:19:57.:20:03.

Cup final. Jake Connor, a winner 's medal for the first time, he wanted

:20:04.:20:08.

but Albert Kelly also a first timer on the pedestal, not willing to give

:20:09.:20:09.

it away at first. And on an exhausting day, he has

:20:10.:20:23.

managed to climb the victory steps twice, Marc Sneyd, the lark -- Lance

:20:24.:20:32.

Todd Trophy, and now the Challenge Cup is going back to Hull, winners

:20:33.:20:42.

today by 18-14. STUDIO:, the Hull fans down below is

:20:43.:20:47.

celebrating long and hard and they will be here for a while as the

:20:48.:20:50.

players bring the Challenge Cup trophy down to paraded in front of

:20:51.:20:55.

them. Brian Noble, winning back-to-back Challenge Cup is a

:20:56.:20:59.

remarkable achievement. Really well and they had to fight hard in the

:21:00.:21:02.

last 20 minutes of the second-half but overall, they thoroughly

:21:03.:21:05.

deserved it. They stuck in there and when they got to the right part of

:21:06.:21:08.

the field, they came up with enough plays and that was about the

:21:09.:21:11.

execution Lee Radford talked about, the fact Wigan came back into it is

:21:12.:21:14.

not a surprise to anyone because they are that type of outfit. Credit

:21:15.:21:19.

to both sides, hole slightly edged it, they had a game who works in

:21:20.:21:23.

them, they ran hard and move the ball around and kicked well at the

:21:24.:21:26.

end, which allows them to build pressure in finals. Finals are about

:21:27.:21:30.

building pressure, taking 18, 24 tackles and scoring a try, a

:21:31.:21:33.

wonderful these of brilliance to score the try but Wigan could have

:21:34.:21:37.

moved the ball about a bit more. It was about yardage and Shaun Wane was

:21:38.:21:40.

right, they were not smart with the ball but credit to their resilience

:21:41.:21:43.

and their desire to stay in the game. Hull have big men who run hard

:21:44.:21:50.

and tie you out and I thought the Wigan attack looked tired because of

:21:51.:21:54.

the hammer they were getting through Hull. Guys like Mahe Fonua carry the

:21:55.:21:59.

ball so strongly and then off the back of him, Talanoa, the front row

:22:00.:22:03.

was flooding through, Liam Watts had an exceptional game for Hull. That

:22:04.:22:09.

wears you out, and Wigan did an amazing job to hang in. Ultimately

:22:10.:22:13.

the difference between the games was the Lance Todd Trophy winner, he

:22:14.:22:17.

kicked brilliantly well, found an unbelievable 40-20 at the right arm

:22:18.:22:20.

when he was run down, kicked well for tries and kicked well for goals.

:22:21.:22:25.

More importantly, Wigan could not match that, they kicked the ball on

:22:26.:22:28.

the full with Leuluai and Williams and could not create pressure. Quite

:22:29.:22:33.

contrast. But then you need the platform to get like that. Marc

:22:34.:22:38.

Sneyd is a fantastic kicker of the ball but he's got a great platform

:22:39.:22:42.

to pick from, some huge men who play the ball quickly and get him down

:22:43.:22:45.

the field. Marc Sneyd's kicking game was exceptional and ultimately the

:22:46.:22:49.

difference between the team. What a performance from him. Outstanding,

:22:50.:22:55.

deserved it two years running and he's found a blueprint of how to

:22:56.:22:58.

play big games, he knows what he brings to the game, he's not got a

:22:59.:23:02.

running game and he's not a great defender but he's the best tactical

:23:03.:23:05.

kicker of the ball in the competition and the country and that

:23:06.:23:08.

is the reason Hull are celebrating like this. You will know how Gareth

:23:09.:23:14.

Ellis is feeling. You know it is your last Challenge Cup final

:23:15.:23:16.

because you are going to retire at the end of the season. Is there a

:23:17.:23:23.

sense of relief? Not for him. He's a champion. He's been outstanding on

:23:24.:23:27.

this side of the globe and die Amanda, constantly challenging

:23:28.:23:31.

himself throughout his career. -- and down under. It's a cliche but

:23:32.:23:35.

he's a champion on and off the field absolutely and I'm so pleased for

:23:36.:23:39.

Gareth. It's been a big week for him and I thought he was immense in the

:23:40.:23:43.

game, taking the ball forward. Hull's change in fortunes can be

:23:44.:23:48.

single-handedly, I believe, based on the recruitment of Gareth Ellis. His

:23:49.:23:52.

recruitment changed their culture completely. That is how important he

:23:53.:23:58.

is. Off the back of that, a series of great recruitment decisions by

:23:59.:24:01.

Adam Pearson and that love has turned them around. Let's take a

:24:02.:24:06.

look at the Hull try in the second half from vanilla. So many times

:24:07.:24:09.

when we do Challenge Cup games and you three come in here, we marvel at

:24:10.:24:17.

how wingers finish nowadays. Great show and go from Kelly, to get the

:24:18.:24:20.

ball back into hands and threw it backwards is a huge skill. And then

:24:21.:24:23.

Mahe Fonua has been doing that all year. To win a final between two

:24:24.:24:28.

sides, you need these of individual brilliance, we spoke about it before

:24:29.:24:31.

the game and he's done that all year and for the last two years for Hull.

:24:32.:24:36.

He will be sadly missed when he goes to Australia. Huge loss. We can get

:24:37.:24:40.

his reaction because he's waiting to talk to Damien.

:24:41.:24:46.

He was to celebrate with his team-mates but what an occasion, day

:24:47.:24:52.

and result. Really pleased with today's result. Last year we got the

:24:53.:24:55.

monkey off the back with never winning at Wembley and a Hull team

:24:56.:24:59.

has never won back-to-back year and I'm pleased to be a part of it. Tell

:25:00.:25:04.

us about the spectacular finish for the second. It was all Albert Kelly,

:25:05.:25:07.

to be honest, they drew the defenders in and I just had to put

:25:08.:25:10.

the ball down. Happy to get over the line. You could have had a

:25:11.:25:15.

hat-trick? I thought I did but we got robbed, it was taken of me but

:25:16.:25:18.

please do get over the white line twice. On a day like this, do you

:25:19.:25:24.

regret the decision to go back home even though you have do? To be

:25:25.:25:27.

honest, I do, these are the moments you want to be a part of but

:25:28.:25:30.

hopefully when I go back I will have success with Westside is but I'm

:25:31.:25:33.

enjoying it with Hull at the moment. Go and enjoy it. Thanks. -- and West

:25:34.:25:42.

Tigers. STUDIO: Here he comes in the huddle, we don't want to deprive him

:25:43.:25:50.

of that. Shaun Wane was brilliantly honest afterwards, did not make any

:25:51.:25:54.

excuses, did not blame any decisions, some decisions which I

:25:55.:25:57.

know we found quite puzzling, I know lots of the viewers have said the

:25:58.:26:03.

referees need to sort it out, could not spot the moon on a clear night,

:26:04.:26:08.

and the Tony Clubb try was clear, Rachel says it was an atrocious

:26:09.:26:11.

decision by the video referee on Twitter. You all thought it was a

:26:12.:26:16.

try. We did. I had to look at it closely but he clearly gets the ball

:26:17.:26:19.

straight and it should -- the ball stripped and it should be play on.

:26:20.:26:24.

It would have been brave from the video referee to overturn the

:26:25.:26:26.

referee's decision but it could have been pivotal for Wigan. I don't mind

:26:27.:26:31.

mistakes from referees in the heat of the game because there's a lot

:26:32.:26:35.

going on and that is frenetic but he's got time to look at it over and

:26:36.:26:41.

over again and it is a try. A big tackle from Tuimavave, nonetheless,

:26:42.:26:44.

stopped it from being a try through the tackle, stole the ball but a big

:26:45.:26:48.

tackle. For me, he had that long to look

:26:49.:26:48.

at that, I don't understand how you get it wrong, in a game like this,

:26:49.:26:55.

how the official gets it wrong. It was 18-10 when that was disallowed.

:26:56.:27:00.

Remember, Lee Radford was on the player microphone throughout the

:27:01.:27:02.

course of the game. This was Lee Radford's view of the disallowed

:27:03.:27:03.

try. It is a try. He stole that. He said it was a try, he ripped it

:27:04.:27:20.

out of his hands, the opposition coach! It was but let's not let it

:27:21.:27:25.

take away from an exceptional Hull performance. That is what Shaun Wane

:27:26.:27:30.

said, credit to him. Yes, a controversial moment but Hull were

:27:31.:27:33.

the better side, really clinical and in the big moments of the game, came

:27:34.:27:37.

up with the big plays which is why they have the trophy. Lee Radford

:27:38.:27:41.

said before the game, could they turn up to the party and they

:27:42.:27:44.

certainly did and they absolutely deserve it. They built on the

:27:45.:27:48.

performance in the final last year against Warrington, beat Castleford,

:27:49.:27:51.

the league leaders and the Leeds Rhinos, who are second in the leak

:27:52.:27:54.

and then beat Wigan, fantastic stuff. That's it, password, Leeds,

:27:55.:27:59.

Wigan beaten in the run to winning this. And they thoroughly deserved

:28:00.:28:03.

it today, Wigan had another opportunity and they did not execute

:28:04.:28:06.

for a forward pass so they can look at their execution and kicking game

:28:07.:28:14.

and they won't think so at the moment but they will come out

:28:15.:28:17.

stronger from this experience. But Hull definitely deserved it. You can

:28:18.:28:19.

join us on the red button and there's plenty more reaction in the

:28:20.:28:22.

next half an hour. The World Cup is coming later this year but for now,

:28:23.:28:25.

it is all about Hull, double Challenge Cup winners. Goodbye.
