embarrassment following negative headlines at the Rugby World Cup,

South Africa simply overpowered England. England have been taught a

lesson in Test rugby. It is Australia, South Africa and

New Zealand to come. First, Fiji. The last time the two countries met

remember that? I do. It is a great day here at Twickenham. Then we

went out against South Africa the following week. Great to see Fiji

back. They have a wonderful tradition in the seven-a-side game.

This will be a good test for England in what is going to be an

amazing autumn series. The very encouraging in the Six Nations, at

starts now. After the last World Cup, England have been a New

Zealand for a lot of reasons. England were not in a great place.

Stuart Lancaster has picked up the baton and got the team playing with

around. It is about good defence, counter-attacking well. When you

get the opportunities, you have to take them. There were bits and

pieces where we did well and things where we could do better.

strength and depth. But England will be critical of leaving a lot

of points out on the field. If I was to analyse their performance,

they got in the habit of running across the field and not taking as

many opportunities as they could. It was interesting talking to

Stuart Lancaster, asking him, is this what we are likely to see over

the next few weeks? Obviously, they will have to tighten up against

Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. England will have to be

more direct, drawing in their defences before they spread the

ball wide, taking advantage of the pace they have on the wings. They

have to take the game to the opposition. Defensively, those guys

will pose more questions. But the set piece went well today. England

looked very comfortable with the ball in hand. We are all very

pleased with the fact that they manage to get the scoreboard

ticking over. Flood showed all the ability he has. It is a wonderful

moment for Stuart Lancaster. On Monday, he will consider whether

Chris Ashton comes back into the side. He has lots of players out

there putting their hands up for the jersey. Yes, Alex Goode is now

giving a headache, with Ben Foden being out. Then we have Youngs, so

yes, plenty of selection issues for Stuart Lancaster. Looking ahead,

there are big games coming up against much tougher opposition.

Italy. This is the litmus test in world rugby, the next three matches

are like a mini World Cup against the three best sides in the world

at the moment, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. It

almost gets tougher and tougher. This was a good warm-up, but we

will find out a lot more about this England squad against Australia.

England's women will also meet New Zealand later this autumn. They

warmed up for a three-Test series with a win over France.

Ask anyone at Molesey road who would be the victor of this one-off

Test at, and a calm head would have said England. But the home side

found themselves in an unusual situation. The French player found
