Autumn International: England v New Zealand - Highlights Rugby Union

Hello and welcome to Twickenham. It is two out of two for England so

far, two good wins but two mixed performances, next up for Stuart

Lancaster's team the fufest test so far, the All Blacks are back in

town. They are looking for venge, but will

England hit the right notes like they did last year?

-- revenge. what an atmosphere. How well this

year end, how well this tour finished for the All Blacks.

New Zealand certainly feeling the pressure now.

Manu Tuilagi is away. Ashton for the line, he dives again. It is Manu

Tuilagi, the match is over, it is a record victory for England.

We are so looking forward to this one, Lewis Moody is with me, welcome

to you. All week the All Blacks have been talking about revenge. Clearly

they are still hurt about what happened here 12 months ago. They

are. You know, there is something about New Zealand, they despise

losing, it is not in their nature to lose, the memory of the defeat here,

a year ago, still really hurts them. It is Dan Carter's 100th game, so

important for his team, Read spoke about it during the week, they want

to have a performance for him. I think Dan wants to avenge the defeat

they had last year, a record defeat. Terrific player in Dan Carter, this

week his coach called him one of the special, special one, in world rugby

He must be good. The special, special one. He is world class,

there is no doubt about it. He is the one people look at and want to

be like. How does he keep it going, the distribution, the passing. We

were here last year for that win, the thing about England, they came

out of the trps, they hit the break down, they put pressure on New

Zealand and scored some sparkling try, same game plan today? I think

they would be happy with the same game plan, looking at their defence

last week, it was interesting to see how they stood back a lot of the

break downs and let Argentina play, they can't let New Zealand do that.

That was a mind game from Stuart Lancaster, they will have to go, be

aggressive, get through the gain line, they will want to see Owen

Farrell playing flat. Getting Billy Twelvetrees into the game. Those off

loads we saw the French do so well at the weekend. And get a victory

against what is the best team in the world. For England to do it, a huge

ask, but they can do it. Here we go, England take on the rugby

championship, the All Black, let us join our commentary team.

Dylan Hartley gets the honour of England out. Born in New Zealand,

but a sworn enemy today. Since the All Blacks defeat last year, they

have won 12 out of 12 in 2013, they have said all week it is not about

revenge, pull the other one. England make the one change with Dan

Cole replacing day Viv -- David Wilson. Hartley wins his 50th cap.

Our referee is is Craig Joubertment it is the first time he has taken

part at a test at Twickenham. First time he has refereed a test

between England and New Zealand. The captains are ready. The teams are

ready, and Dan Carter on the advent of his 100th cap for the All Blacks

gets us under way. Deep into England territory, taken by Billy Vunipola.

Dixon went for the box kick and it drops inside the New Zealand half.

The All Blacks first attacking opportunity, last year, trailed 15-0

at one point early in the second half, but all the backs got an early

run. Immediately the All Blacks manufacture an overlap and England's

outside back, they hesitated, the outside man has to come in and hit

someone or be wider, perfect opportunity for New Zealand right at

the start of this game. Perfect weather for attacking

running rugby as well. We have clear blue skies above. We have had some

sparkling sunshine. And England's defence is under early pressure.

They have beaten Australia, they have beaten Argentina, they won

their last six games at Twickenham. But the All Blacks are here, and

they feel it is payback time. Ball goes loose.

Here is the early chance, and here is the early score, as well. Julian

Savea touches down for the All Black, with less than two minutes on

the clock. They are here for a measure of revenge, and they are off

to a flyer. The referee Craig Joubert just wants

to have a little look at things before confirming the early score.

There will only be one thing to decide.

Let us have a look. Good pick up there. No, I think he

is all right. For England, that is a terrible

start, because they did very well in the line-out, it wasn't able to be

caught. Well, they are a lethal side in finishing.

No danger of the touch. Craig Joubert signals the try and Julian

Savea back in the All Black side, having missed the Test against

France last week. He gets his 17th international try.

Scored two in the defeat here at Twickenham last year.

Measured approach and no mistake. And New Zealand race into an early

7-0 lead. Let us see how England can respond.

Goes without saying, line-outs need to be good for England today. That

was. Twelvetrees. England get the penalty. Dan Carter, the man picked

out for not rolling away, an early chance for Owen Farrell to get

England on the board. Owen Farrell, a couple of weeks ago

had an off day with the boot. Can't afford to have that today. Owen

Farrell surely knows, as everyone does in this stadium, that he really

can't afford to miss a kick this afternoon.

Early success for him. He gets England on the board, New Zealand

lead by 7-3. Dylan Hartley in the middle of that

front row for England. 50th cap for him, born in New Zealand of course.

Now about to pack down against the land of his birth.

Scrum is on the move and the ball comes bobbing out.

Dixon on top of it for England. New Zealand over it. They may have to

turn this over. Richie McCaw pops up in the cuerge area, he has it. Tries

to make a couple of yards forward, being told to let go of the ball.

Just a bit scruffy. Interception and Foden is away, but the whistle had

gone and the penaltity is going to be New Zealand. Ben Foden has run

the length of Twickenham here, he still think he has scored the try.

He is celebrating but we will come all the way back in to the England

22 and New Zealand will have a chance to increase their lead.

New Zealand have the England scrum on the move. It was a right wheel

shunt. England have to be more adept at

that. Wasn't a shunt early, so it wasn't

illegal. No doubt about the decision from

Richie McCaw. Hands over to his trusted Lieutenant Dan Carter.

He has scored 173 points so far. Absolutely no mistake from rugby

royalty, Dan Carter on his 100th cap, moving New Zealand seven points

ahead and they lead by ten points to three.

New Zealand go quickly. England penalised at the scrum. New Zealand

sense an opportunity here. Desperate to at tone for the defeat last year.

Ben Smith is one of their star performers in the Rugby Championship

this summer. Aaron Smith, out to Kieran Read. He has seen lots of

action early on. A very good ball carrier for New

Zealand. Breaking through the middle is Owen Franks. Tackle still has to

be made. Here is Kieran Read, line in his sights and Kieran Read is

over for New Zealand's second try of the game. Every time they get

attacking possession, they look as if they are going to score. There

you saw one in the middle, the break for Franks and Kieran Read operating

on the right this time. It is no coincidence he appears on the end of

these ball, they work for that. There is Franks the tight head going

thundering through the middle. He was looking for support, decided to

run over Mike round. Brown made the tackle. And New Zealand were able to

go quickly again. It is Kieran Read's 15th international try, the

world record for a number 8 acres last week he scored and now has the

record himself. He has a bit of a war wound to show for it as well.

The ball came back quickly. The all Black took it right up to the

defender before he released it. Dan Carter, perfect so far.

That one just drift back in beautifully. Just like Dan Carter's

routes, everything New Zealand touch so far this afternoon is turning to

gold. They lead by 17-3 and England are right up against it. Already

they have conceded two tries. They need to get a try of their own to

get into the lead. You need to check afterwards stop --

afterwards... Try, no try. Checking the ball. I think that is the

momentum. I think he has gone over. You will not see it from that

direction, maybe. It is underneath the body which is underneath

Courtney Lawes. The first one was the best one. You can see it goes

down. There is a ball and it has in driven over the line. The problem

for the television match official is he cannot see the ball. He can see

the man who has got the ball go over. I think it is a try but I am

not convinced he will give it. There is no picture I can see with the

ball over the line. So inconclusive. No try. The Twickenham crowd is

doing. -- booing. The television officials thought that it was a try

but no conclusive evidence. And now it is down and over the

line! We are going to have to see if this one from launch recounts. --

from Launchbury. Again the referee once to go to the television

official. New Zealand have gone right round. It came of Smith,

Does drop short touch that? He might have grazed it with his fingers. --

does Chris Rock short touch that? REFEREE: He does not actually pick

the ball up. Unless you can give me contrary information I will not

award a try. A try for England! Joe Launchbury's second of his

international is. And Craig Joubert got that spot on. England are back

in the game. A brave decision and the right decision by Craig

Robertshaw to keep going. If England got the benefit of the doubt on that

one, they did not get the one before. -- Craig Robertshaw.

Now just a converted try between the two teams. Dan Carter leads the

field for New Zealand. It has been an injury prone year.

This is Piatau, the winner, who has never lost a test match as an All

Black. Robshaw is the man that is picked

out. Aaron Cruden as a replacement for Dan Carter.

Cruden curled it inside the post. A successful kick from him having just

entered the fray. New Zealand now lead. -- New Zealand now lead 20-10.

Dickson had to be quick. He got there in time.

There are bodies flying around all over the place. The penalty goes

England's way. That is the fifth one.

Craig Joubert said to Richie McCaw, the next one is going in the

sin-bin. Let's see if he is as good as his word. He is! Kieran Read

departs the field. England are up against 14 men for the next ten

minutes, and a penalty in front of the post.

I do not often say this but when it is correct, the officials have got

nearly everything spot on. Requisite number of warnings. Clear

morning. And he carried the thing out.

He stroked the ball through to put England within seven points a game.

New Zealand leading by 20-13, but they are a man down.

Farrell right in front of the post and straight as a die. Another three

points for Owen Farrell. New Zealand now leading by just four points.

20-16. England were the winners last year

by 48-21. Marler has two go into the scrum

half position. He was told by Craig Joubert to get out of it and he did

it just in time. Vunipolar again makes ground. He

rolls over a couple of bodies. Billy Vunipolar is having a titanic game

carrying the ball but early in that move, had England not step aside...

What a great half of rugby. Brilliant stuff in the first half at

Twickenham. New Zealand lead England by 20-16.

COMMENTATOR: Can England do it again? Can they repeat the victory

of last year and can they wreck the All Blacks' dreams of an unbeaten

season? The last time they managed that was in 1997. The last time they

managed the perfect season, all wins, was 1989.

Vunipolar has been a thorn in the New Zealand side this afternoon so

far. England come again. A good, bright

half starting. As soon as I say that, England lose the ball and New

Zealand gain it back and England will be put in a scrum. They have to

be careful with 30 because the all is moving around. I imagine the All

Blacks will whose this ball as far as they can. -- hoof. First scrum of

the second half. Keven Reid returned to action after his ten minutes in

the sin-bin. -- Kieran Read. So Kieran Read back on for the All

Blacks, they have made another early change in the second half, Owen

Franks has come off, to be replaced by Faumuina.

The only option now, put the ball in the air or have a scrum. Craig

Joubert being consistent consistently, although the scrum

settles it is still going forward there. England were rightly pulled

up for it in the first half. New Zealand in the second.

excellent game so far. This time New Zealand get the shove on England.

Vunipola picks up at the back of the scrum. Goes to ground.

Dixon gets ready to fire one out, to Lawes.

Lawes is brought to ground quickly. England get the numbers there.

Farrell with an inside ball. Tomkins trying to wriggle himself a bit of

space. Farrell inside. Twelvetrees spots a gap.

Vunipola, the ball has gone loose. Craig Joubert is happy.

Again, a break from Twelvetrees. He keeps going.

Back in, New Zealand are on top of him quickly, Twelvetrees... Hanging

on, but the referee Joubert is happy. England are happy to go

through the middle at the moment, with Dan Cole tumbling into a good

position. Ashton on the charge for England.

There is a lot of space wide there, they have taken it short.

Thousands of fans in the white shirts round Twickenham. New Zealand

back in numbers behind the ball. Captain Robshaw doing his bit.

Farrell again, this time to flat pass in. England just held up on the

New Zealand 22. Ashton. Not sure anyone else read

that. It is an easy chance for Dagg. I can't think of anything else to do

there, wrong option, right from the start.

Mike Brown to collect. Assess his options. Decides to go

with the kick. Chase is all-important. Good kick, good chase

but great take by Dagg. We haven't seen a lot of Dagg, which

is a good sign for England. Vunipola couldn't pick up and New Zealand

just about get away with that one. Hartley felt that, because he is

crawling away from the action, in some pain. Full on physical

collision, New Zealand chucking it about now from left to right. Kieran

Read, Foden thought about the tackle into touch. Brown has a lot of

ground to make up. He just gets there, and picks himself to his

feet. Great work from Mike Brown. That is brilliant work in defence.

A' hill good autumn International Series Mike Brown. This time last

year he was playing on the wing, his natural position. A very very solid

performance -- performance. This doesn't go anywhere. Farrell

chases his own kick up with real intent. So the penalty goes New

Zealand's way. Dylan Hartley is on his feet again, he is not looking

good. Looked like a punch drunk boxer

there, they are weighing up their option, in the end decide to go for

goal. He doesn't seek safety, he takes it

infield, that is brave any way. The England fans decide to go with Swing

Low to put him off. It worked. Twelvetrees on the ball and suddenly

spots a load of turf to run into it. Twelvetrees lays it back. England

decide to counter attack. With Farrell. And Tomkins. And Tomkins is

still going. McCaw. He couldn't quite grab him. Did enough to halt

the momentum. Now Farrell decides to kick.

I don't understand why Farrell chose do that. England had the momentum

for three or four carries, they could have carried on. When New

Zealand look back at the missed penalty here from Cruden, it struck

the outside of the post which remeans their lead remains four

points. -- which means.

Good take by Foden. Playing on the wing but full back by trade. Back to

Twelvetrees. This is where New Zealand can be so

dangerous. Savea, he is charging away, down the left hand side and

throws itia away though and Chris Ashton is going to return it, and

chase it and was he blocked? The-re-Craig Joubert thinks he was.

-- throws it away. Certainly wasn't going to get on the

end of the kick. Now the chance for England to move

within a point of a clearly rattled New Zealand. Ashton does a

Hollywood, but... Fairly blatant run across. He changed his life, that is

why it was. No need for the dive. Hanson knows. Owen Farrell, 100%

success record so far. Pretty much every one.

This is a big moment in the game. England need this.

Farrell Hazard done it again. No problem at all.

And brings England to within a point of the World Champions. What about

it at the moment? Difficult to call? It is difficult. If you had asked

whether this would be the case before the game started, many people

myself included didn't think that, but... He has had a huge game so

far, Ben Morgan is a good ball carrier, dynamic and they need him

now to carry on the success over the gain line. England have 29 breaks

against 11. Not a stat you necessarily expect to

see. It is a measure of the England

performance so far. Billy Vunipola given a standing ovation, Ben Morgan

into the fray and the replacements so important and the impact they

have have on the game. Craig Joubert happy that Chris Robshaw is on side.

England looking threatening again with the ball in hand.

? Tomkins is growing into his role at

outside centre. Parling, on the gain line there and England need to go

quickly again. England keep the pressure on. Signed

ball to Ashe torntion just about clung on.

They did OK but the ball should have gone wider. -- Ashton. Dixon was

caught in possession. England somehow managed to work that back to

their side. Robshaw, thought about trying to get

it away. Decided against it. The All Blacks comes flying over the top.

Richie McCaw was screamed at by Craig Joubert, he can shake his head

as much as he likes. England have another penalty in front of the post

to take the lead against New Zealand.

McCaw was on his knees there. Watch here. He is not the tackler, as soon

as his knee goes down, which is there. This then for the lead for

England. For the first time in the game.

And again his aim is true, his strike is pure. And England lead New

Zealand by two points, 22 points to 20. Heading into the last 20 minutes

of the game. New Zealand 12 wins out of 12 so far this year. One more

game against Ireland to come next week, they desperately want that

unbeaten season, but they have a real fight on their hands here this

afternoon. Pressure on Tom Youngs with the

throw. Outside the England 22. Real test now for slan's young side

and they -- Stuart Lancaster's young side and they haven't passed that

particular part of it, putting themselves under more pressure now.

Messam was the man to steal it. Chance for Twelvetrees to get rid.

He has charged down. The ball could... You could see that coming,

he took an age there. Tom Youngs and the jumpers have to get this right.

They have lost two in a row now. When Hartley was on, the majority

were made, there is an overthrow, have to get this right.

Twelvetrees's heart must have been in his mouth there. The ball could

have spun back to the try line. This time England get it right.

They have lost the ball. New Zealand now have a is really --

really good attacking opportunity, they are going to spin it wide. Good

take by Dagg, on the Smith. Smith, just held up, can New Zealand get it

back and over? England desperately try and get white shirts in the way.

New Zealand have managed to recycle. Out to Kieran Read. Read with a try

in this game already. Here comes Julian Savea, two tries last year,

has he got another one here, rolling over the touchline, yes, he has, New

Zealand get the try. And they are back in front. And that

is why they are the number one team in the world. They have been under

the cosh for a long period in this game, but give them an opportunity

like that, it didn't come the first time but it did the second. Savea

back in the side and he has two tries to his name. That was great

work by Ma'a Nonu, but that came from an England throw, which wasn't

gathered properly, that was three line-outs in a row. Not acceptable.

Watch the contribution of Ma'a Nonu stretching good awareness, support

run running. Mike Brown almost saved England again You couldn't do much

from that. England were the authors of their own downfall in that

passage, because they didn't catch the restart properly. They didn't

catch the restart. Then they failed on the three successive line-outs

which kept them under pressure. And all their good work has been undone

in the set. Aaron Cruden with the chance to

stretch the lead to Fife point, which he does. So New Zealand move

27-22 ahead. Last year England won 38-21. It is certainly entertaining

when these two teams get together. The All Blacks got their noses in

front. They want to be ruthless about it. Flood.

Trying to get it away for Chris Ashton. Ben Smith, such a brilliant

performer for New Zealand this summer, managing to mop things up.

Again, something different. Brown took that well. He is going to take

on Savea, gets away from him. Did enough to hold him up, which meant

reinforcements could come in. Piatau knocked to the floor. There

is a lot of room down there. Robshaw needs to call on his men for

a huge effort in the last ten minutes of this game. Because it is

possible to snatch it but they will not do it unless they can raise the

tempo yet again. Brown beats the first man, wriggles his way into a

position where England can safely get the ball back. Another good

game. It goes wrong in the line-out. You are not going to win games if

you lose a series of line-outs. The last four have gone wrong. The ball

launch high again into the sky and that is a fantastic take by Charles

Piatau. England desperately trying to bring

it back but they have conceded the penalty. That could prove extremely

costly. A chance for New Zealand to stretch that lead to eight points.

He did call Toby Flood before he penalised him. But that was the

consequence of a lost line-out. All of that was from a lost line-out.

Charles Piatau that with the wonderful take. 22 years old. Very

impressive last week against France, scoring the first try. He set Kieran

Read up for the second. He finds the target, straight

through the middle. England have a lot to do now in the last ten

minutes of the game. Steve Hansen looks a happier man

now. It is going to be an England

line-out, which has not formed fantastically in the latter stages

of this game. Right on their own goal-line.

Young's in. Find the target this time. Taken by Tom Wood at the

front. The penalty goes their way. Robshaw is in to have his say.

This will be a crucial throw that England have to win to try to keep

themselves that platform. Looking back to the early stages of the

game. England with Flood caught on the 22 there. A really crucial it

from New Zealand. -- a crucial hit. There you have a microcosm of the

whole game in that passage of play. The forwards are getting over the

gain-line, doing well, and when it comes back it goes back to not being

coherent. Jeff Harling breaks one tackle, gets

over the gain-line. Last rendition of Swing, low.

It looks like New Zealand are going to get their revenge for last

year's defeat. New Zealand will get the put-in that

they wanted... But they do not need to put it in. It is all over. They

get their revenge. Kingdom had a sneak look at the victory at one

point in the second-half. Having trailed at 17-3, with some excellent

rugby, they got themselves 22-20 in front. They could not it. New

Zealand makes it 13 wins out of 13 this year and head to island next

week to try to maintain that unbeaten record. They have beaten

England by 30-22. Is there a feeling in the dressing

room that you have let New Zealand off the hook today? Definitely. We

set high standards for ourselves and in that game we did not reach those

high standards. Especially the first ten or 15 minutes. We let them come

at us. We did not get points on the board. We did well to get at into

the game going into half-time and we were confident we could keep going.

But once again in the second half we let them off the hook. That moment

of brilliance from Nonu Nonu, -- Manor Nonu, it is what we expected

from New Zealand? Those precious moments, you have to do it. It is

just second nature. We definitely thought we were in a good face when

we got those points on the board. But once again, we let them off the

hook. On the fence was not good enough at that point of the game.

You cannot switch off for a second inning international test match,

especially against the number one team in the world. But we will learn

our lessons just like we did against the Welsh. We will move onto the

Nations. COMMENTATOR: We will be hearing from England head coach

Stuart Lancaster in a moment. But reflect on the match. 22-20, England

are in front and suddenly Nonu comes up with a flash of brilliance and it

is all over. And we always knew these New Zealand side were capable

of absolute affection. Really good running minds. We spoke before about

Owen Farrell lying on the gain-line, getting his centres into the game.

He did that and we had so much momentum. Just one mistake and then

we are seven points down. Brilliant from the All Blacks but also England

have been outstanding today. We knew this game would show us where

England was at. Dan Carter's the day and from Julie. Do you think that

the belief seemed to seep out of New Zealand at that point? I had those

good early drives for that part of the game and then England's momentum

was building and building, but New Zealand are that quality side and

they have that strength. I was surprised to see the change in New

Zealand, actually, as the first half went on, and the second half.

England came out on fire. We will be hearing from Stuart Lancaster in a

moment. That is it from England in this autumn series but 20 more rugby

to come on the BBC. -- plenty more rugby to come on the

that epic final a decade on. So plenty more to come and

England's women have also been in action this November.

COMMENTATOR: The hosts took an early lead over France will stop touching

down twice before try number three. The player made her first appearance

in a white shirt after 20 months and also played a part in the first try

after half-time. Wilson grabbed her second and sealed a sweet 20-40 win.

Their form further flourished against Canada on Wednesday. A try

and then this effort from Lydia Thompson, sent over the line by a

well executed kick by McLean. A strong and consistently powerful

forward display for a try double. And then a convincing 32 - three

victory. We have been joined by the England

coach, Stuart Lancaster. Hard lines but in the development of your team,

this is top-notch test match rugby. A lesson for them. I'm not sure I

would use keyword lesson. It is another step for us. Some

reflection. They offer restricted in the dressing room having lost the

game. The All Blacks have had an unbeaten season and wanted revenge

for last year. We wished them close. To not win at the end is

disappointing. How did you feel going forward. There was a lot of

chatter about England's attacking. How were you being pressed by the

going forward? That was a crucial part of the game. Having gone 17-3

down, to come back in that way and forwards carried well. We got a

quick ball. Lee Dickson was excellent. But the two Billys you

picked out, I think they were the best of the series. The change in

school reflect the dominance we had. When you look back at 2013 it has

been a remarkable one. To compete in the Six Nations ultimately, a

fantastic draw in Argentina and one defeat in the autumn internationals.

What you take out of 2013? A huge amount of positives. It is a still a

young team developing. Overall, it is about building a team that can go

on and win the World Cup in 2015. The losses still hurt, and we will

look to build on those going into the Six Nations. Any individuals

that have stood out for you? In 2003 it was about competition for places.

I would love to see that the guys you gave an opportunity have stepped

up and taken it. How much do you now know about your squad? We lost two

players in this ridiculous game. Competition hooker is very strong

now, Dylan Hartley. Whether pushing hard. The second row combination

excited me the most. Those two. And then to number 8s going toe to toe

and Robshaw and Wood great also. Nine, ten... The list goes on,

really, of quality players we have got. Once it is positive. It is not

a short-term thing. And I know you have talked about the country,

playing for the shirt will stop it appears the Twickenham crowd is

really getting behind you. That must be something that is pleasing you

because they were magnificent today. It is one of those games that you

just look at and you got involved and it is a privilege to be here.

Two topside going toe to toe. There is a lot more respect between these

two teams now and the crowd played a huge part today. We go back out

there in June. We have a three match test series in New Zealand. But

today was brilliant and the Twickenham crowd were unbelievable.

But you must be confident going into the Six Nations next season? We have

Scotland away as well. We have things to build on. We will not have

a rest in France, that is for sure. Two wins out of three for England in

the autumn internationals. And as Stuart says, it all starts in Paris
