The Scottish Curling Women's Championship is celebrating its 40th | :00:39. | :00:44.
anniversary. It all began back in 1977, when Margaret Paterson and her | :00:45. | :00:49.
team-mates picked up this trophy for the very first time. Who will join | :00:50. | :00:53.
the role of honour this year? Welcome to the 2017 addition at | :00:54. | :01:00.
Dewars Centre in Perth. The name of Eve Muirhead appears on | :01:01. | :01:05.
the trophy more than anyone else. Since 2009 she has dominated this | :01:06. | :01:09.
competition, winning it six times in the last eight years. Could anyone | :01:10. | :01:14.
stop her charge towards the Magnificent Seven Scottish titles? | :01:15. | :01:21.
This year's competition kicked off a week ago. Seven teams entered and | :01:22. | :01:24.
after they had all played each other, the table looked like this. | :01:25. | :01:36.
Hannah Fleming needed a tie-break to decide who would progress to the | :01:37. | :01:41.
knockout stages. They won that tie-break much to go through to the | :01:42. | :01:46.
semifinal as the third qualifier. There, they faced Team Smith, who | :01:47. | :01:53.
had earlier lost six against Team at Muirhead, which meant Eve Muirhead | :01:54. | :02:00.
advance straight to the final. The match turned in the six end when | :02:01. | :02:06.
Team Fleming, already five riven three ahead, stole three, to give | :02:07. | :02:11.
them an unassailable lead. They went on to ease to a comfortable 9-6 | :02:12. | :02:15.
victory. So Hannah Fleming through to her | :02:16. | :02:19.
fifth Scottish final and a repeat of the 20 15th competition, when she | :02:20. | :02:23.
lost out narrowly to Eve Muirhead. -- 2015. | :02:24. | :02:29.
A new addition to Muirhead's rink from the league -- from the team who | :02:30. | :02:35.
won last year. Lauren Gray. This was the same team that had won bronze in | :02:36. | :02:39.
the European Championships in Glasgow last November. We do have a | :02:40. | :02:45.
massive target on our back and everyone wants to beat us out here, | :02:46. | :02:50.
and it makes it tough. When we got that Olympic bronze medal we work to | :02:51. | :02:53.
super, super hard for that and we have the European Championships this | :02:54. | :02:58.
year, so that is good as well. We have a fantastic coach and staff | :02:59. | :03:03.
behind us. We brought in Glen as our tactical coach and we have a | :03:04. | :03:07.
fantastic team of coaches, so if we can put all our hard work together | :03:08. | :03:10.
and take it forward to this last game. | :03:11. | :03:17.
Fleming's team had two new faces after the team that lost two years | :03:18. | :03:23.
ago. Alison Spence has been on Hannah Fleming's team for seven | :03:24. | :03:29.
years. Evers was going to be a tough | :03:30. | :03:33.
opponent to play in any game but it's a final so it's whoever plays | :03:34. | :03:37.
well in the game and it doesn't mean if you had a good week you can | :03:38. | :03:41.
continue. If we put in a good performance we know we can push it | :03:42. | :03:46.
to the line. -- Eve Muirhead was always going to be. | :03:47. | :03:53.
Whoever wins earns the right to represent Scotland in the women's | :03:54. | :03:56.
Championships in Beijing in less than a month. This could also have a | :03:57. | :04:02.
big bearing on the selection for team GB. | :04:03. | :04:05.
Before we get to the action, a quick reminder of the format. | :04:06. | :04:09.
There are ten ends and points are accumulated over the course of the | :04:10. | :04:13.
match for the stone is closest to the T at each end. If there are no | :04:14. | :04:21.
stones in the house, the end is blanked and no points are awarded. | :04:22. | :04:29.
That is exactly what happened in end four, as Muirhead cleared the house | :04:30. | :04:33.
with her last stone to ensure she kept the hammer going into the next | :04:34. | :04:35.
end. We joined the match in the fifth end | :04:36. | :04:46.
with the scores level, one piece. Your commentators are Bob Kelly and | :04:47. | :04:47.
Jackie Lockhart. Yeah, Lauren Gray with her first | :04:48. | :05:00.
stone now, number five. Muirhead with the last one. Not much scoring | :05:01. | :05:16.
so far. Just the two scoring ends. That's not helping get things going. | :05:17. | :05:23.
A completely different strategy as well. We saw Hannah Fleming with the | :05:24. | :05:27.
end going down here and she asked her team to draw one to the corner, | :05:28. | :05:35.
so she was being really aggressive. Yes. | :05:36. | :05:43.
OK, good line now. A chance now for Fleming to get one round. No | :05:44. | :05:55.
Yellowstone is in play so she glides in front. A nice shape. All Muirhead | :05:56. | :06:03.
can do is try to play a freeze up to that one. That's a great start for | :06:04. | :06:11.
Team Fleming there. They really are playing very well at this moment. So | :06:12. | :06:21.
Lauren will have to follow with an intern draw and come up onto the | :06:22. | :06:28.
base of that layer. They are going to have to work this really hard. | :06:29. | :06:35.
Not sure it's got the weight. A high line as well, Jackie. It is amazing | :06:36. | :06:40.
the curling it does at the last minute. Look at that movement. Just | :06:41. | :06:47.
slightly short on weight. She was heavy with her first one, of course, | :06:48. | :06:52.
and maybe just pulled it back a little too much. | :06:53. | :07:03.
So now I think we're looking for an intern draw here. Probably a guard. | :07:04. | :07:15.
Doesn't want it to be too heavy. Half check... If she could get it on | :07:16. | :07:24.
the inside it would be nice. And we can see them taking that huge curl | :07:25. | :07:33.
their at the end. She needs it to stop there. Muirhead quite entitled | :07:34. | :07:44.
to remove these from play now. That last stone, not too happy with that | :07:45. | :07:51.
stuff. I think just peeling that read in the middle there? -- that | :07:52. | :07:56.
red. Yeah, just pick that one out of | :07:57. | :08:10.
there. Releases the yellow again, so it could be used to drive back onto | :08:11. | :08:21.
the Redstone. -- red stone. Hannah Fleming is almost giving the ice out | :08:22. | :08:27.
to the edge of the circles. A good five feet, five and a half feet now. | :08:28. | :08:34.
A lot of swing. Not sure she got quite out to the stick on that one, | :08:35. | :08:40.
though. Asking Jennifer to transfer a bit harder to hold it straighter. | :08:41. | :08:46.
If it's going to over curl, it's better to leave it high. As they | :08:47. | :08:52.
have done. APPLAUSE | :08:53. | :08:59.
Works a bit as a guard but I would have thought Muirhead will leave | :09:00. | :09:02.
that situation there with the short one played and working with the | :09:03. | :09:09.
reds. Just to see if she can make the double here. Then effectively | :09:10. | :09:13.
the yellow has a bit of cover on it. Working down the centre line so | :09:14. | :09:20.
Fleming probably OK with that. See if Adams can make this double. Not | :09:21. | :09:34.
quite. It's OK. She's put a little corner guard on there as well. | :09:35. | :09:42.
Possibly looking at plan B. I don't think Muirhead will be too worried | :09:43. | :09:45.
about the way this end's building up. She has got a yellow with some | :09:46. | :09:59.
cover on it and Fleming just guarding a single stone on there at | :10:00. | :10:08.
the moment. A guard attempt from Dodds. Yeah, always a tricky one. Do | :10:09. | :10:16.
you keep your guard is high or try to bring them close to the house? | :10:17. | :10:19.
Because if you try to bring them to close and they come in, it gives | :10:20. | :10:24.
Muirhead to hit another one out of the wings. And all these other | :10:25. | :10:29.
shots. And if you leave them to hide, as you said, you can have the | :10:30. | :10:35.
swing on the ice. -- if you leave them too high. She can see a little | :10:36. | :10:45.
piece of the red, Sloan. Just a quiet weight. We'll probably see | :10:46. | :10:53.
more than a right-handed player on the sheet and we do know if you play | :10:54. | :10:58.
the right weight here it will take a lovely curl. She could steal the | :10:59. | :11:11.
house for two. A lovely shot. Almost a similar shot we saw her play two | :11:12. | :11:17.
ends ago, where she made the mistake would be guard, but no mistake | :11:18. | :11:23.
there. That makes the hit and roll from Fleming much more difficult, a | :11:24. | :11:29.
bigger distance for her to hit this one now and rolling behind those | :11:30. | :11:34.
centre red stones. A very, very nice shot. So, Jennifer Dodds' second. | :11:35. | :11:45.
This is looking a little high at the moment. She really needed to stay | :11:46. | :11:54.
high and connect to the house. Really committed with all this stuff | :11:55. | :12:04.
in the front coming in. Probably not the place she wants to go, but as | :12:05. | :12:09.
you say, because the two red guards are our there, she has to get to the | :12:10. | :12:12.
fore foot before Hannah Fleming does. -- out there. She might draw | :12:13. | :12:26.
it outside the centre line. She has played this end to get centre guards | :12:27. | :12:30.
and she would have to come in behind. Certainly not taking that | :12:31. | :12:38.
chance. Doesn't want it to deep of course. Top of the T line. Pretty | :12:39. | :12:53.
good. Well played, well called and well swept by the team there. If | :12:54. | :12:59.
anything is maybe a foot further than you want. If Fleming freezes | :13:00. | :13:04.
that one it doesn't leave an awful lot of room for Muirhead. A good | :13:05. | :13:15.
situation at the moment. Right in the middle of the red, in the middle | :13:16. | :13:21.
of the 12 foot Circle. So we are talking five feet of curl there. So | :13:22. | :13:26.
ideally Hannah Fleming would really like to be sitting right on top of | :13:27. | :13:32.
the yellow stone Hannah has just played. But whatever she does, she | :13:33. | :13:36.
doesn't want to overthrow it, that's for sure. Try to play a bit of a tap | :13:37. | :13:44.
on it? I would be suggesting, this looks like it would be overthrowing, | :13:45. | :13:49.
even anywhere hide, if it is sat on the 12 foot or 8-foot, that would | :13:50. | :13:54.
still be making it very difficult ease. -- anywhere high. -- very | :13:55. | :14:04.
difficult for Eve Muirhead. She has a great opportunity here. She will | :14:05. | :14:09.
see all of that red and get a little role in behind. -- roll in behind. | :14:10. | :14:20.
Yes, if she could get it to roll over to the left and line up to the | :14:21. | :14:26.
yellows. So, great chance now for Muirhead. Three stones to come. What | :14:27. | :14:38.
can she do with this one? She should make the take out without any | :14:39. | :14:46.
problem. Not a lot of weight on this one. She under thrown it. Try to be | :14:47. | :15:00.
a bit cute there, maybe. Paid the penalty. Wow, a big chance going | :15:01. | :15:06.
begging there. I think that was just down to weight. Didn't give it | :15:07. | :15:11.
enough weight. The first thing that -- first was to make the takeout. A | :15:12. | :15:17.
big sigh of relief from Fleming. A big let off for her. She was staring | :15:18. | :15:23.
at losing two, maybe three at that end. She could really put the | :15:24. | :15:29.
pressure on Muirhead and even take the steel, try to come writing onto | :15:30. | :15:35.
that yellow stone in the bottom. Just move it a couple of inches and | :15:36. | :15:40.
get the shot, it would then be very hard for Muirhead to move. But takes | :15:41. | :15:46.
a lot of precision to do that. Yes, she has to be careful that she | :15:47. | :15:49.
doesn't overthrow this again because she wants to come across and be on | :15:50. | :15:54.
top of the yellow stone not on top of the red. | :15:55. | :16:00.
So can she take advantage of that uncharacteristic miss from Muirhead? | :16:01. | :16:13.
Not doing it, you know. This would still be an opportunity... Wow, just | :16:14. | :16:21.
a little heavy, wasn't it? Yes. Not what she wanted at all. Still with | :16:22. | :16:28.
the opportunity to get three reds here. There was a huge swing, as we | :16:29. | :16:37.
talked about. Just that yard heavy. Just doesn't take the curl, and | :16:38. | :16:45.
that's what happened there. You just have to get off nose on the | :16:46. | :16:51.
left-hand side of that shot there. To catch the back red, roll a little | :16:52. | :16:59.
and take a three here. It's certainly on, isn't it? You've got | :17:00. | :17:03.
to watch not to jam ready to read, though. -- red-to-red. She was going | :17:04. | :17:20.
to take the intern there but is going for the outturn. A little on | :17:21. | :17:32.
the centre line side. A huge chance now. Only had two shots and scored | :17:33. | :17:38.
in the match so far. Two single-point spot the chance for a | :17:39. | :17:44.
multiple score now for Muirhead. If she can get the accuracy. Chance to | :17:45. | :17:51.
make amends here. Trying to hold it. Get the back one. It does, you know. | :17:52. | :17:59.
Two, three. Great shot from Muirhead. A couple of loose ones | :18:00. | :18:06.
from Hannah Fleming and a loose one back from Muirhead herself, but | :18:07. | :18:11.
makes the last one and nails the big three. That was a great shot. I | :18:12. | :18:20.
thought she hadn't laid enough weight on that. What a great way to | :18:21. | :18:28.
go into the fifth end break. A three for Muirhead. This is the school | :18:29. | :18:36.
after five ends. The crowd here loving the quality of | :18:37. | :18:41.
this match, but let's take a break from the action and get to know the | :18:42. | :18:43.
two skips better. My name is Eve Muirhead. I'm the | :18:44. | :18:56.
skip so I stand in the target and call the shots in the end. I've | :18:57. | :19:02.
played against Hannah lots and lots of times. It goes back to juniors. | :19:03. | :19:07.
We are really good friends as well. Both teams are very close and when | :19:08. | :19:12.
it comes to playing, both teams want to beat each other as each other. | :19:13. | :19:16.
Over the years we've come up against her. Each year we are getting closer | :19:17. | :19:21.
to beating her. She's a tough opponent! Hopefully this year will | :19:22. | :19:26.
be one of those years. So far this week everything's been going great. | :19:27. | :19:31.
100% record up to the final and we hope we can keep it that way. The | :19:32. | :19:35.
ice conditions have been fantastic, girls are playing really well, | :19:36. | :19:45.
coaches behind us. We have a new team this season. Two girls have | :19:46. | :19:49.
joined me and Alice so it's been a brilliant season so far. We've | :19:50. | :19:52.
managed to jump up the world rankings into the top 32, which was | :19:53. | :19:57.
our goal this season. Hopefully this week we can end the season on a | :19:58. | :20:03.
high. I can't believe it's been three years since Sochi! I've had | :20:04. | :20:07.
things on Facebook pinging up saying it's three years since we won that | :20:08. | :20:11.
bronze medal. Time flies and since then I've been thinking about | :20:12. | :20:14.
getting better and better and going back there. Back to the final now. | :20:15. | :20:24.
When we left it, Muirhead was leading for micro-1. Fleming needs | :20:25. | :20:31.
this shot but could only manage a single to give the last stone back | :20:32. | :20:36.
to Muirhead. We pick it up again in the seventh end. | :20:37. | :20:42.
So, Lauren Gray out to second. It is over the front one, I think. Now, if | :20:43. | :20:58.
that red hit the barrier, which I'm sure it's going to, Freegard zone | :20:59. | :21:03.
will be in operation when it has to go back and be replaced. We've seen | :21:04. | :21:16.
a few of the girls being caught out with this outturn throw. Heading | :21:17. | :21:24.
down this way of the ice. Yes, a few mistakes there. And they've all been | :21:25. | :21:32.
pretty much over curling. So, good start, then, for Fleming in this | :21:33. | :21:38.
end. Can she build on it? Alice Spence. Good space between the two | :21:39. | :21:50.
reds, so we need Alice to clear a nice stone. A bit heavy at the | :21:51. | :21:55.
minute. The girls are not sweeping yet. An important shot, this one. If | :21:56. | :22:06.
she got one right round onto the burden, it would be double guarded. | :22:07. | :22:12.
That's not what the doctor ordered. A slack shot, really. Can't make too | :22:13. | :22:18.
many excuses for that at this stage of the game. Frustrating for the | :22:19. | :22:28.
skip, too. Anywhere short... Yes. She will know that herself. She will | :22:29. | :22:37.
indeed. This gives the opportunity for Team Muirhead to start peeling. | :22:38. | :22:43.
And Hannah has to get on that long guard again. Hannah is gambling with | :22:44. | :22:48.
a Muirhead line shot here but she can't keep doing that. At some stage | :22:49. | :22:53.
she has to come into the rings, get rid of that Muirhead stone. Can't | :22:54. | :22:59.
afford to leave it lying there. So a rough opportunity to build an end | :23:00. | :23:11.
here has probably gone. But you can still see the peels. The girls are | :23:12. | :23:15.
very good at them. Removing the short stones. Near the centre line | :23:16. | :23:22.
but quite close together. They might try to get rid of both of these. | :23:23. | :23:29.
They were trying hard to sweep that onto the centre line and keep them | :23:30. | :23:33.
parallel with one another. That makes the doubles harder to take. I | :23:34. | :23:40.
think she was just taking one, actually. The one with Adams. I | :23:41. | :23:48.
think she's just going for the single peel. Probably decided she | :23:49. | :23:54.
doesn't have to do anything too difficult at the minute. There's no | :23:55. | :24:00.
point trying to play the big shot when you don't really need it and if | :24:01. | :24:04.
you do make a mistake it will count against you, so... Not sure where | :24:05. | :24:09.
that could have gone wrong other than getting a bit thin and driving | :24:10. | :24:16.
onto the yellow perhaps. That's why we are sitting up here. Exactly! | :24:17. | :24:32.
Another guard called. Cover on the shot in-house and also trying to get | :24:33. | :24:40.
something on the centre line. That's over curled a bit. Shot in the house | :24:41. | :24:49.
is visible. Should see a good two thirds of it. You can see... Yes. | :24:50. | :24:59.
Has to be careful as well. Doesn't want to overthrow this and catch it | :25:00. | :25:08.
and drive it onto the other side. The safe side is the inside and the | :25:09. | :25:13.
new peel it anyway. So does want to be on the wide side. In fact, I | :25:14. | :25:21.
think they will take the guard. Not taking any chances. Now looking for | :25:22. | :25:27.
the double peel. Lots of opportunities of different chances | :25:28. | :25:31.
here. Going for it this time, anyway. Has been asked to take the | :25:32. | :25:46.
double peel if she can. Just missed that. | :25:47. | :26:07.
Well, Jennifer Dodds has a chance to put on a better one. Last one was a | :26:08. | :26:15.
bit off-line. Still enough to force Muirhead to wait appeal but she | :26:16. | :26:20.
would like this one a bit of a better guard. Looks higher but they | :26:21. | :26:31.
will have to sweep it to get it to the centre and as they are sweeping | :26:32. | :26:36.
is getting closer and closer... Now what will Muirhead do? She can | :26:37. | :26:44.
certainly hit the red in the rings and she could live two shots after | :26:45. | :26:47.
this, which would mean leaving the short one in the centre, though. Try | :26:48. | :26:50.
the double curl. OK, she's going to try to get rid of | :26:51. | :27:14.
both these reds. Three quarters, left-hand side, drive it onto the | :27:15. | :27:20.
right-hand side of back one. A bit of extra weight on this. Maximum | :27:21. | :27:27.
action on the stones when they meet. A single peel, is it? Yeah. She | :27:28. | :27:43.
managed to hold it. Well, now Fleming... Just another look. She's | :27:44. | :27:54.
just deciding what she wants to do and what ice she's going to take. | :27:55. | :28:00.
Can't afford to throw another guard now. Gives Muirhead too good a | :28:01. | :28:04.
chance of making the two, which she can't afford. Will be hoping, of | :28:05. | :28:13.
course, they get a chance on the last one to come around the short | :28:14. | :28:19.
red stone in the centre line. May not get that chance, but if anything | :28:20. | :28:23.
else, she wants to force Muirhead to take one. | :28:24. | :28:34.
Keeping them separated prevents Eve from having the opportunity of a | :28:35. | :28:43.
double. They are going to have to work this one. Looks like it is | :28:44. | :28:51.
curling a lot. They held that well. Pretty good, actually. Got it right | :28:52. | :29:00.
in behind. One lucky. Good shot from Fleming. Now a decision, does Eve | :29:01. | :29:09.
try to go for the shot, fully in the house, or try to run back on the | :29:10. | :29:18.
centre one? You go to the one in. You can lie assured that way and | :29:19. | :29:24.
Fleming has got to remove it. -- you can lie short. | :29:25. | :29:40.
They are playing a down weight, not a full strike. Should have the | :29:41. | :29:50.
chance for the sweepers to control the stone going down the ice. Seems | :29:51. | :30:04.
to curl. That's the live for short, which it is not going to do. That is | :30:05. | :30:10.
a mistake. Here is the chance I mentioned that Hannah Fleming was | :30:11. | :30:16.
relishing, the chance to get a draw right round the top of the button. | :30:17. | :30:21.
Potential stealing situation here for Fleming, if she can now this | :30:22. | :30:29.
one. I'll and we do know that when you come across the line, you take a | :30:30. | :30:33.
huge pool, so she has got to make sure she gets right out to the brush | :30:34. | :30:39.
and gives it every opportunity to come past the guard and let the | :30:40. | :30:45.
girls sweep it in behind. A mistake from Muirhead, though, if she can | :30:46. | :30:51.
lie short at all, Fleming will try to lie two, not presenting any great | :30:52. | :30:55.
problem to Muirhead, but maybe now the chance to turn the screws a | :30:56. | :31:00.
little bit. These are the shots that Hannah is really going to have two | :31:01. | :31:06.
nail, to put the pressure on to Muirhead. A little bit slack, but | :31:07. | :31:13.
she has turned it round in these last few ends. Looking good. The | :31:14. | :31:29.
line looks great. Wants it to stop. Just a little bit heavy, Jackie. | :31:30. | :31:40.
Really unfortunate, there. Huge pool coming across. If it had just | :31:41. | :31:46.
stopped there, but a couple of feet it ran on and then you just see it | :31:47. | :31:55.
peeking out the other side. Muirhead can now play a straight draw to it, | :31:56. | :32:00.
still not easy but easier than having to play a little tap to get | :32:01. | :32:04.
shot. The danger on what she goes for, we can see her here, taking the | :32:05. | :32:09.
choice, she's going to play the run back. I thought she would play the | :32:10. | :32:15.
draw. If she didn't make the draw properly and caught the top guard | :32:16. | :32:18.
she would be pushing it in for second shot. Would be sure to be in | :32:19. | :32:25.
the rings if she could make it? Could make the first one slightly on | :32:26. | :32:30.
the left and the one of the right-hand side of the back, she | :32:31. | :32:33.
would get a little role that way. I thought she would take on the draw. | :32:34. | :32:36.
It's not that hard. She's going after this. Can only think it is a | :32:37. | :32:48.
short draw, if she can nail it. She's going after it. Has she done | :32:49. | :32:54.
it? She has just jammed at the back one. There is the steal. She had a | :32:55. | :33:00.
go at it. A bold call. The draw looked like the shot, to me, but | :33:01. | :33:07.
many just didn't read that contact, there. It is a big steal of one for | :33:08. | :33:17.
Fleming. Seven ends in and it is Muirhead four, Fleming, three. We'll | :33:18. | :33:23.
be back for the climax of the Scottish women's curling | :33:24. | :33:25.
Championships in a few minutes. If you walk into any rink anywhere on | :33:26. | :33:29.
the ward, one of the major factors to deal with any work in this sport | :33:30. | :33:39.
is the surface of the ice. The ice is a really big factor and we are | :33:40. | :33:45.
lucky emperor to have good conditions brought the team is | :33:46. | :33:49.
playing the Scottish Championships. The ice man, he's up propping up | :33:50. | :33:55.
really early at half past five every morning, this week. Lots of people | :33:56. | :34:01.
think it is just a sheet of playing nice with four stones going up and | :34:02. | :34:05.
down but there's a lot of signs behind it. Playing nice is different | :34:06. | :34:14.
from skating and ice. It is harder. They have pebbles in the eyes, and | :34:15. | :34:19.
they walk up and down with a watering can and create small bumps | :34:20. | :34:25.
on the ice. That affects how much the Stones travel on the ice. I'm | :34:26. | :34:29.
how much they curl. Curling ice needs to be different to skating | :34:30. | :34:34.
ice. It means to be perfectly level. If the stone was travelling on | :34:35. | :34:40.
skating ice it would only travel a couple of metres and it without so | :34:41. | :34:43.
much friction it would not be able to go that far. It melts the top of | :34:44. | :34:48.
the table, the sweeping, so that can keep the stone travelling slightly | :34:49. | :34:54.
straighter. It is called the roaring game because of the noise that the | :34:55. | :34:58.
stone makes when it is travelling on the ice. Let's return now to the | :34:59. | :35:08.
closing stages of the final. Team Muirhead leads 4-3 in the eighth | :35:09. | :35:21.
end. 63%, not that good at the minute, but she desperately needs an | :35:22. | :35:25.
nice draw, here. To sit right on top of the yellow. She will have to bump | :35:26. | :35:34.
it. She will need to make sure that she is using it as protection. | :35:35. | :35:42.
Pretty good shot. Three guards on, so it is clean-up time for Muirhead, | :35:43. | :35:47.
straight out front, as she is. Vicki Adams to make the peel. If you are | :35:48. | :35:59.
put -- playing 77% at the moment, 80% on drawers. She is very strong | :36:00. | :36:08.
in that apartment, Vicki. Great second player, the strength of the | :36:09. | :36:12.
second players to clean up. You want someone lots of power and accuracy | :36:13. | :36:17.
to get rid of those annoying stones out front. She is a bit of an expert | :36:18. | :36:21.
on most. These players come into their own and the last few ends when | :36:22. | :36:29.
they are asked to play the shots. -- these shots. They just want to see | :36:30. | :36:38.
Team Fleming piling in the Reds, here. She has got to get stones and | :36:39. | :36:44.
play to get something set up for another stone. -- in play. Just the | :36:45. | :36:57.
guard again. And just a simple peel again. This could be dangerous. | :36:58. | :37:07.
Could leave a short one. This will just be a simple peel shot. She will | :37:08. | :37:11.
try to drive this back into the already play. It was a single peel | :37:12. | :37:22.
but nearly got something else. That was a nice try. Four stones in | :37:23. | :37:46.
play all round about the four foot, covering the one foot. Again, asking | :37:47. | :37:53.
for another centre guard, Anna Sloan. Wonder how were long this can | :37:54. | :38:01.
go on for? The stones in the house lying pretty well for Fleming. She's | :38:02. | :38:06.
got to be careful and switch her attention from the straight peels. | :38:07. | :38:14.
This is coming a bit deeper. And the chance, now, to rumble things | :38:15. | :38:20.
around. Certainly is. That has come up to close, so it makes the job | :38:21. | :38:23.
easier trying to get that read on the left and the yellowing behind | :38:24. | :38:29.
them enter the Reds. Anna Sloan getting her weight behind this one. | :38:30. | :38:44.
Nice shot. That will clean things up a lot, made things a lot better from | :38:45. | :38:52.
a Muirhead point of view. Just slightly overthrown the guard from | :38:53. | :38:55.
Jennifer Dodds made this a lot more simple. Muirhead with two in the | :38:56. | :39:02.
rings. Anna is playing very well here. She missed the first part of | :39:03. | :39:07.
the season after having a fall in the summertime last year and having | :39:08. | :39:12.
to get a cruciate ligament operation in her niece. It's really nice to | :39:13. | :39:17.
see her settle back in and playing the shots that we know she can play. | :39:18. | :39:29.
Absolutely. Fleming would love to throw a guard here but she can't | :39:30. | :39:35.
afford to throw with your head with two stones in the house. She mustn't | :39:36. | :39:41.
risk losing two here. Jennifer Dodds, playing 79% at the moment. | :39:42. | :39:47.
Trying to play the run back, here. Two reds in the house, and she does. | :39:48. | :39:53.
All was going to be quite close together. Looks good from Muirhead's | :39:54. | :39:57.
point of view. 69% for Anna Sloan. Drawers, 71. Get | :39:58. | :40:35.
a good double, here, if she can. And she has just about got it. How far | :40:36. | :40:39.
is that going to go? It is still a short position. That was a break for | :40:40. | :40:53.
Fleming. That was unfortunate. She could have left a simple double for | :40:54. | :41:02.
Fleming to take away, but this is a great opportunity to check the | :41:03. | :41:08.
yellow out there on the left, and you need the peels to come second. | :41:09. | :41:19.
Yes, she needs the inside role. She must lie two after this. Needs to | :41:20. | :41:27.
get the inside of this yellow to get a little role in towards the centre. | :41:28. | :41:36.
Is it going to swing enough? Didn't quite do it. She had to get inside | :41:37. | :41:46.
that yellow at the top centre. She played a nice weight to allow it but | :41:47. | :41:50.
she overthrew it and didn't give it a chance to come in, so the momentum | :41:51. | :42:01.
swings back to Team Muirhead. If Eve can remove this and lie two she can | :42:02. | :42:05.
certainly put the pressure on. She can try to force the nine and go | :42:06. | :42:10.
down the ten with the hammer. A score of two would be big and would | :42:11. | :42:14.
negate that steel that she gave up in the last end. Playing a down | :42:15. | :42:25.
weight here. Just looking for the nose. | :42:26. | :42:37.
Well, it rolled. If it rolled another few centimetres it wasn't | :42:38. | :42:43.
going to be in second shot position, but they just managed to hold it. So | :42:44. | :42:51.
Muirhead does lie two. Well called by Anna. Eve was wanting them to | :42:52. | :42:58.
clean that stone but she could see that it was drawing all the time. | :42:59. | :43:02.
That does look like it is two yellows for Team Muirhead. That's | :43:03. | :43:09.
going to be a freeze for Fleming, the one that Muirhead just played. | :43:10. | :43:14.
Looking at the double, that is a tough double to take. Does she think | :43:15. | :43:22.
it was a double and being able to hold the shooter off the back of the | :43:23. | :43:27.
other red, trying to lie two? It is a tough double. You would | :43:28. | :43:32.
definitely, I think, lose one of your reds. Draws at 56, that is why | :43:33. | :43:42.
she doesn't fancy the draw. I think it should be a draw, but maybe just | :43:43. | :43:49.
not the confidence to do it. She could completely kill this end if | :43:50. | :43:54.
she played a lovely draw and sat on the T-line. Quite a big angle to | :43:55. | :44:00.
make here from one yellow onto the other. Not easy. Very difficult to | :44:01. | :44:06.
judge. Quite a long way away from that one, really. I didn't like the | :44:07. | :44:13.
call. And there is the result. An open hit from Muirhead. Well, big, | :44:14. | :44:21.
big shot now from Muirhead. The score, 4-3. That's the read that's | :44:22. | :44:27.
got to go, if she can replace that one and score two she will be three | :44:28. | :44:33.
shots up with just two ends remaining, so this is big. | :44:34. | :44:48.
So, hit for two. It is always nice to hear, "Clean" and "Easy", | :44:49. | :45:06.
absolutely no mistakes there. Classy shot. And a nice score of two from | :45:07. | :45:12.
either. She stamps her authority on this game again. Eight ends in and | :45:13. | :45:19.
it is Muirhead six, Fleming three. Muirhead continued to pile on the | :45:20. | :45:24.
pressure in the ninth end, and as we rejoin play, she is taking on a high | :45:25. | :45:26.
tariff double takeout. Well, I don't think I called that | :45:27. | :45:45.
one. She makes in, fantastic shot. It's relentless, really. What a | :45:46. | :45:51.
great end played by Team Muirhead. They've not put a foot wrong. She | :45:52. | :45:59.
has left her corner, and I think you would have to go and use it again. | :46:00. | :46:07.
Yes. The problem is now, she uses the corner, she is leaving your | :46:08. | :46:12.
headline short, and inevitably she can't get short by lying in the | :46:13. | :46:16.
corner, but inevitably, she can call a time-out. -- she is leaving your | :46:17. | :46:22.
head lying short. Nancy Smith just appearing. | :46:23. | :46:41.
Gathering her thoughts. She will have been thinking about it on the | :46:42. | :46:45.
way down, seeing what she will recommend to the team. | :46:46. | :47:00.
There are several different strategies you can play here. What | :47:01. | :47:07.
you want to try and do is make it most difficult for the opposition to | :47:08. | :47:14.
play. There's not many of these shots that Eve Muirhead can't play. | :47:15. | :47:20.
So, what have the team decided? Again, this is another big call for | :47:21. | :47:26.
Hannah Fleming, and not a lot of margin for error. The other thing | :47:27. | :47:32.
she could have done is play for the blank N. But that would mean only | :47:33. | :47:37.
one end remaining and she would have to make three just forced the extra. | :47:38. | :47:41.
I think she's right to have a go at this. She's moving the line here she | :47:42. | :47:47.
should try to stop it and come on the top of it. Try to work the | :47:48. | :47:53.
bounce. Actually, that's not a bad shot. It should still be a simple | :47:54. | :48:01.
shot for leave to remove both of these. The line was good, it was | :48:02. | :48:06.
just a weight issue. Just under through it a little bit. So no | :48:07. | :48:16.
opportunity for Muirhead to lie two. She will be trying the nose hit or | :48:17. | :48:20.
half of that read, to try to make sure the red disappears. And all | :48:21. | :48:28.
that Fleming will be able to do is come away with a score of one, or a | :48:29. | :48:35.
blank. So, some straightforward stuff from Muirhead, here, and once | :48:36. | :48:39.
again, and our Fleming just not able to produce the Serb -- the perfect | :48:40. | :48:51.
shot. Everything goes, in fact. Does Hannah Fleming think she's more | :48:52. | :48:56.
chance of stealing and two or scoring a three? | :48:57. | :49:08.
I think she's probably going to take her one, here. Early in the first | :49:09. | :49:16.
couple of ends you saw Hannah Fleming with opportunities where she | :49:17. | :49:21.
was lying a lot and Eve had to finish it off, but asking her to | :49:22. | :49:26.
take a three against Team Muirhead at this stage in the game, it's a | :49:27. | :49:33.
big ask. Neither is going to be easy in the last end, to take the three | :49:34. | :49:40.
or steal a two. Jee think she's going to take one and reduce the | :49:41. | :49:45.
deficit to two, but give up the last stone in doing so? -- do you think. | :49:46. | :49:54.
She's playing the draw. The slight advantage of that is that at least | :49:55. | :49:58.
you get to throw first at the next end and you can pull the corner | :49:59. | :50:03.
guard stones down the centre line and have a few stones in play before | :50:04. | :50:09.
the stealing stars. So, nicely done. Takes a single point. Couldn't do | :50:10. | :50:13.
any more than that. Would have liked to have done so, but had to be held | :50:14. | :50:21.
to a single. That meant Fleming went into the last end, trailing 4-6. | :50:22. | :50:32.
So difficult for Fleming to build up anything threatening here, when the | :50:33. | :50:45.
centre line is clear. And those two tick shots from Lauren Gray making | :50:46. | :50:49.
sure that that was the case. Unfortunately she's not trying to | :50:50. | :50:53.
steal just one, she's trying to steal two. It doesn't just make it | :50:54. | :51:02.
twice as difficult. But she has got some stones in play and at some | :51:03. | :51:05.
stage she will have to use those. She would rather be drawing round | :51:06. | :51:11.
stones on the centre line, but in the absence of those, she'll have to | :51:12. | :51:15.
make use of something that is there, and that is the corner guards, try | :51:16. | :51:20.
to make a couple with the last one, try to play Pershore. This is | :51:21. | :51:28.
Jennifer Dodds' first stone. Three to come for Fleming after that one. | :51:29. | :51:32.
Both teams playing the shots that they have do. But each time the | :51:33. | :51:40.
opposition counteracts what is required by the opposition. For | :51:41. | :51:50.
every shot that Team Fleming play, Team Muirhead are just removing. | :51:51. | :51:57.
Playing 100% at the moment in this last end. Yes, faultless play. And | :51:58. | :52:05.
now we will see Fleming have to do something a little bit different. | :52:06. | :52:09.
Three stones to come, she's got to count two of them so she has to get | :52:10. | :52:18.
these into the rings. Still a change of tactics here. She is going to | :52:19. | :52:26.
come down into the house. We know that there is a lovely draw on, | :52:27. | :52:30.
around this corner. Comes off the centre line, over the hauf line. | :52:31. | :52:42.
Nicely played from Jennifer Dodds. That looks well in behind, I think. | :52:43. | :52:51.
Perhaps just a little bit of it showing. Not a lot, but Anna Sloan | :52:52. | :53:03.
board try to pick this one out, the one in the rings, but failing that | :53:04. | :53:06.
making sure that she gets the guards and opens it up. And she has picked | :53:07. | :53:11.
it out. Great stuff, Jackie, you have to say. These girls have got | :53:12. | :53:18.
confidence now in this last end, here. I think they can see the | :53:19. | :53:21.
finishing line. Slightly tighter ice now for Hannah | :53:22. | :53:37.
Fleming. Same shot, though. Let's see if she can make a better job of | :53:38. | :53:38.
it. Fleming steadied herself. First two | :53:39. | :53:52.
this end. She must get this. If this catches the guard, is going | :53:53. | :54:17.
to be all over. She had to get that one in hand means to steal two. I | :54:18. | :54:21.
think it is going to be game over. It is indeed. Hands are being | :54:22. | :54:28.
offered. And this appointment for Hannah Fleming once more. Another | :54:29. | :54:36.
bridesmaid situation. And Eve Muirhead and her team march on. | :54:37. | :54:40.
Another Scottish Championship title. They will go on to represent | :54:41. | :54:46.
Scotland in the women's World Championships in Beijing next month. | :54:47. | :54:50.
And you have to say, richly deserve. A couple of mistakes early on, but a | :54:51. | :54:53.
pretty professional performance altogether. Congratulations, | :54:54. | :55:00.
Scottish champions. That feels pretty good, right? That's my first | :55:01. | :55:06.
Scottish Championship and it was a great team performance and I am | :55:07. | :55:10.
delighted. It certainly was a great team performance. Vicky, you have | :55:11. | :55:13.
been here a few times and greater pick up the title again. Yes, it's | :55:14. | :55:18.
great to pick up another title. It feels the same as every other one, | :55:19. | :55:23.
such a delight, it doesn't get any easier, of course, but it feels | :55:24. | :55:28.
great. And Anna, you were out of the cruciate ligament injury. But good | :55:29. | :55:32.
to be back at the Scottish and doing incredibly well. The feeling never | :55:33. | :55:37.
gets old, the nerves never get less. I am really glad to be back here. It | :55:38. | :55:41.
was looking a bit worrying at times. Especially for me, but I am so glad | :55:42. | :55:46.
to be back and this team performance was really good. It is amazing, Eve, | :55:47. | :55:52.
he beat everyone on the way to the final but you had to get over the | :55:53. | :55:57.
final hurdle, as well. And that was tough, but it was the fifth end that | :55:58. | :56:00.
gave you the advantage and then you took it and won it once again. Yes, | :56:01. | :56:06.
Hannah always provides tough opposition and you have two beta | :56:07. | :56:10.
three Campsa get to the European Championships, so it never gets | :56:11. | :56:12.
easy. You've got to play really well to win those games. We managed to | :56:13. | :56:17.
get a three on the fifth end and that gave us a little bit of a jump, | :56:18. | :56:21.
we managed to play well and solid from then on. The Beijing now. It is | :56:22. | :56:26.
bizarre. It has come around so quickly. We just take each | :56:27. | :56:33.
competition one at a time and the Scottish, for us, was a high | :56:34. | :56:37.
priority event. With the Olympics, hopefully, next year. For us, this | :56:38. | :56:42.
was a big tournament to win. That victory has put us one step on the | :56:43. | :56:45.
plane. Fantastic performance from all of you. For the seventh time, | :56:46. | :56:51.
Team Muirhead, Scottish champions, well done! | :56:52. | :56:57.
APPLAUSE That fifth end getting a three was | :56:58. | :57:00.
the turning point of the game. We were still pleased with the | :57:01. | :57:04.
performance. We were pushing them closer every year. So, hopefully, | :57:05. | :57:09.
once I we will get. The fact that they are professionals and on the | :57:10. | :57:13.
ice every day, and you guys have got the kind of juggle things a little | :57:14. | :57:16.
bit, that must make it tougher for you. Definitely. It is harder for us | :57:17. | :57:22.
to fit in time around work commitments. But hats off to Eve and | :57:23. | :57:27.
her team. They consistently perform. And they just showed in that final | :57:28. | :57:31.
that they are just that step above. CHEERING | :57:32. | :57:36.
Another successful defence of the title for Eve Muirhead's rink. Their | :57:37. | :57:41.
Canadian coach Glenn Howard helping them celebrate another triumph, | :57:42. | :57:44.
which makes it an incredible seven wins out of the last nine | :57:45. | :57:50.
Championships. Before we go, just time to bring you news from the | :57:51. | :57:54.
junior championships that have been taking place in South Korea. It was | :57:55. | :58:00.
a silver medal for Sophie Jackson's Scotland team, together with lead | :58:01. | :58:08.
Sophie Sinclair they demolished Canada in the semifinal but they | :58:09. | :58:12.
could not maintain the form and eventually went down 7-10 to Sweden | :58:13. | :58:16.
in the final. Join us at the same time tomorrow for highlights of the | :58:17. | :58:25.
Scottish men's final between two-time champion David Murdoch. Yes | :58:26. | :58:30.
that was a magnificent 74 team knew I had. And once again they will go | :58:31. | :58:33.
off and represent the nation in Beijing in a few weeks' time. From | :58:34. | :58:44.
all of us here at the Dewar's Centre in Perth, goodbye. | :58:45. | :59:25.
