Golf tourism is a multi-million- pound industry these days.

:00:37.:00:41.

Countless destinations worldwide offer varying attractions. But

:00:41.:00:47.

there is no place quite like this. Quite correctly, entirely

:00:47.:00:51.

appropriately, it is called The Home of Golf. And Scotland lives up

:00:51.:01:01.
:01:01.:01:06.

to its billing. There is no better port of call and St Andrews. That

instantly recognisable golfing Fairmont and Andrews for the

:01:28.:01:30.

fabulous views, down to the old grey toun.

:01:30.:01:40.

There is the Torrance and the Kittocks Course. As its name

:01:40.:01:45.

suggests -- suggests, the Torrance Course is designed by Sam Torrance.

:01:45.:01:53.

It is a par 72. Unlike all exposed tests of the game, close to the sea,

:01:53.:01:59.

scoring is impossible to predict. If the wind blows, scores will thaw.

:01:59.:02:05.

Last year, only one player, Barry Lane, broke a par as some's

An Australian who has gone on to be the only more to pull champion so

far this season and lie second on the money-list, having recorded no

:03:06.:03:09.

less than eight top 10 finishes. I have played consistently all year,

:03:09.:03:14.

and the body is feeling OK, so it is all good. I think the most of us,

:03:14.:03:17.

the better you feel, the more chance you get to play the game you

:03:17.:03:22.

want to play. I have driven the ball much better this year and I

:03:22.:03:26.

have been playing more often, and I have putted a lot better, so those

:03:26.:03:31.

are the most important part of the game, driving and putting. Wild

:03:31.:03:35.

horses couldn't have kept Glen Ralph from retracing his steps here,

Apology for the loss of subtitles for 45 seconds

:04:11.:04:57.

I have always disagreed with greens way you have struggled and then you

:04:57.:05:02.

have to two putt. What you get here is a beautiful surface. It is a

:05:02.:05:12.
:05:12.:05:15.

good test. Sure to play a key role in deciding the champion at the

:05:15.:05:20.

venue the senior professionals always thoroughly enjoy it. It just

:05:20.:05:25.

smells of golf at St Andrews. It is a great place to come and play golf.

:05:25.:05:28.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of doing so couldn't disagree with

:05:28.:05:32.

those sentiments. Although that irreverent jokester Mark James

:05:32.:05:38.

couldn't resist having a dig at the design work of his old pal Sam. But

:05:38.:05:42.

he made at the Ryder Cup on five occasions. I have heard the critics

is a lot better. Just kidding! -- the key to X. He has done a good

:05:47.:05:54.

job. You always want to go back and tweak courses and I am sure Sam

:05:54.:05:57.

would want to do that. But from my perspective, it is a really good

:05:57.:06:05.

test and he has done a good job. The layout is really good and

:06:05.:06:08.

everybody can criticise something, there are a couple of pictures in

:06:08.:06:11.

front of the greens and you can't quite get the low shots end --

:06:11.:06:17.

pitches. I think it plays really well with the windy conditions but

:06:17.:06:21.

you can play it in a calm as well. I think it is a great course and I

:06:21.:06:25.

really enjoy playing good. This is really enjoy playing good. This is

:06:25.:06:28.

the 14th event on the 2011 European senior Tour schedule. Tom Watson

:06:28.:06:31.

heads the money-list but he went by the number of the required

:06:31.:06:36.

tournaments to stay there, so in tournaments to stay there, so in

:06:36.:06:39.

effect, Peter Fowler heads the list for the John Jacobs trophy. With so

:06:39.:06:43.

much at risk, playing conditions they to be spot-on. In fact, the

:06:43.:06:46.

course is pristine Dexter the efforts of the green keeping staff.

:06:46.:06:54.

John Hawkesworth met the boss. These greens really are superb and

:06:54.:06:57.

alongside me is Neil Ballingall, the course superintendent at

:06:57.:07:00.

Fairmont St Andrews, responsible for getting this golf course into a

:07:00.:07:05.

fantastic condition. It hasn't all been plain sailing running up to

:07:05.:07:10.

the tournament? No, this year has been particularly bad, with the

:07:10.:07:16.

amount of rainfall we have had. In August alone, we normally get 47 mm.

:07:16.:07:22.

Up to the 12th August, we have had 144. Tell us the speed of the

:07:22.:07:28.

greens this week. Running up to the Championship, we are trying to get

:07:28.:07:34.

them as close to 10 as we can. That is 10 feet. You would expect a

:07:34.:07:42.

normal part to run out do that. have the golf course sh -- the golf

course plays its part, is the rough that thick off for the double?

:07:47.:07:51.

is particularly formidable. It is stronger than it ever is. It is

:07:51.:07:56.

pretty tough to get their top if you are in the middle of it.

:07:56.:08:00.

ins and outs that go on to get a tournament going, it is not just a

:08:00.:08:04.

case of cutting the grass, but you have got a magnificent course and

:08:04.:08:08.

let's hope it stays at OK for the rest of the week.

:08:08.:08:12.

It has taken me nine hours to get here on this think but it is a

:08:12.:08:15.

wonderful piece of machinery. You have to be a little bit careful,

:08:15.:08:20.

because all I am doing is basically rolling the green. I hope you lads

:08:20.:08:23.

appreciate the work that has gone into these greens this week. They

:08:23.:08:30.

are absolutely mint. I will just go across one spot and make it nice

:08:30.:08:36.

and quick. Play well. John Hawkesworth, at 12 on the mad

:08:36.:08:42.

metre as always. After a lot of rain in the area in August, we have

:08:42.:08:45.

been blessed with sunny skies, and been blessed with sunny skies, and

:08:45.:08:48.

that was reflected in the day one scoring. Amongst those taking

:08:48.:08:52.

advantage, Ian Woosnam, who launched his challenge with a two-

:08:52.:08:57.

under-par 70. These days, Gary Koch spends the majority of his time

:08:57.:09:01.

talking about golf as a TV commentator in America, rather than

:09:01.:09:06.

actually competing. But there was no hint of frost during his opening

:09:06.:09:12.

round 69. And John Hawkesworth, a player born right here in St

:09:12.:09:17.

Andrews, matched that score. That is Gordon Manson, now an Austrian

:09:17.:09:24.

citizen. He secured his place by the qualifying score in Portugal

:09:24.:09:31.

last November. He would regard this as his best round so far, playing

:09:31.:09:36.

very nicely indeed. A Manson was and the other mistake-free player.

:09:36.:09:40.

One of the most interesting stories was authored by every green

:09:40.:09:44.

Californian Jerry Bruner. -- evergreen. Been 64 years of age

:09:44.:09:49.

didn't stop him knocking five birdies in a 67 which gave him the

:09:49.:09:54.

lead for much of the day. Eventually, Bruner's Mark would be

:09:54.:09:58.

perfect -- equalled by the defending champion. Barry lain was

:09:58.:10:01.

trying to become the first player in the 19 year history of the event

:10:01.:10:06.

to retain the title -- Barry Lane. He did enough to suggest that the

:10:06.:10:09.

bookmakers, who installed him as favoured, were clued-up. 12 months

:10:09.:10:16.

ago, he won by four and was the only player to finish under-par. He

:10:16.:10:22.

loves the course. And he badly wants to keep the trophy.

:10:22.:10:30.

But both Barry Lane and Bruno were trumped by an Australian, -- Bruner,

:10:30.:10:35.

and that was Peter Fowler. He found the 18th green in a two with a

:10:35.:10:40.

powerful three-wood into the heart of the green. That would set up the

:10:40.:10:46.

eagle chance. That would be to get round in 65, quite extraordinary.

:10:46.:10:54.

Was he up to the task? We mentioned his putting and driving a, he has

:10:54.:10:58.

done both. The lowest by two that we have seen in three years. Quite

:10:58.:11:08.
:11:08.:11:11.

Gary Wolstenholme also broke 70, but the star of the show had to be

:11:11.:11:16.

Fowler. 28 people managed to break par on

:11:16.:11:19.

this golf course and although conditions were very nice, that was

:11:19.:11:24.

pretty special scoring. Peter Fowler managed to get round in 65,

:11:24.:11:30.

a wonderful 7-under par and Barry Lane shot 67, along with the 64-

:11:30.:11:34.

year-old Jerry Bruner. Quite exceptional. Could that standard of

:11:34.:11:38.

scoring be carried on into Saturday for the second round?

:11:38.:11:43.

The answer to John's question is not quite. With a stiff breeze the

:11:43.:11:46.

birdies did not flow quite so freely, but there was plenty of

:11:46.:11:52.

quality golf. Ian Woosnam, seeking his second title of the season

:11:53.:11:57.

after a win in Germany a few months ago, will go into the closing round

:11:57.:12:03.

with a realistic hope at 4-under. One of his second round of playing

:12:03.:12:06.

partners was Cole Mason, one of the most successful on the European

:12:06.:12:11.

senior Tour. With three birdies in the last seven holes, very much in

:12:11.:12:19.

the reckoning at 5-under par. Whenever Glen Smyth spies a links

:12:19.:12:24.

course, he links he -- he licks his lips. He was tied six Thea and this

:12:24.:12:32.

time he is sharing 4th with Mason. -- 6 last year. Ernie one player

:12:32.:12:37.

has shot in the sixties in Bath days and one of them is Gary Koch.

:12:37.:12:42.

He won six times on the PGA Tour, including the Bay Hill Classic. --

:12:42.:12:46.

only one player. He is really enjoying his time here.

:12:46.:12:53.

This has been a golden summer of success for Peter Fowler, with a

:12:53.:12:57.

victory in Switzerland. Currently 8-under, he is serious the

:12:57.:13:01.

targeting another title. In fact, Fowler lead by two playing the 18th

:13:01.:13:06.

but ended the day with a call in a bogey six. That, coupled with a

:13:06.:13:11.

birdie by Barry Lane, means we have a tie at the top. Parry added a

:13:11.:13:16.

round of 69 to his Friday 67 and his grip on the trophy remains

:13:16.:13:26.
:13:26.:13:32.

The I played a very well, hit a lot of good and solid shot. Then the

:13:32.:13:36.

back nine got a little bit loose on a couple but was able to hit some

:13:36.:13:41.

par putt. So it was a good day overall and to go over bogey-free

:13:41.:13:46.

it, I am very happy. I was one behind lash dear, I am one better

:13:46.:13:52.

this year. -- last year. It was a tough day. I was hoping to get the

:13:52.:13:56.

rhythm and get through again. Saturday dawned, the wind really

:13:56.:14:00.

showed its teeth and played havoc with the scoring, as you would

:14:00.:14:05.

imagine. 28 people weren't under- par that day. Even the leaders

:14:05.:14:10.

struggled early on and the lead changed hands all day. Four people

:14:10.:14:14.

managed to break 70 and one of them was Gary Koch, he doesn't play

:14:14.:14:18.

full-time, but coming up the last, the final three baulk, Peter Fowler

:14:18.:14:23.

had a two-shot lead. Sadly for him, he would make six. Barry Lane made

:14:23.:14:33.
:14:33.:14:34.

a birdie and they are all tied. golf - St Andrews. Today, the

:14:34.:14:39.

attention was fairly focused up the hole, three miles from the Old

:14:39.:14:42.

course, where there is a bright, pleasant but breezy day for the

:14:42.:14:47.

final round of the Scottish Senior Open. Won the last day of any

:14:47.:14:50.

tournament at the range is always a little quieter. Less banter, more

:14:50.:14:54.

intense than usual, but that there was a friendly chat on the first

:14:54.:14:58.

tee before the start recalled the leaders to drive off.

:14:58.:15:04.

Barry Lane and Gary Koch comparing notes. While on the fourth green,

:15:04.:15:14.
:15:14.:15:17.

Carl Mason struck an immediate blow. sweeping the ball in from 30 feet

:15:18.:15:24.

for a birdie that sees him claim to six under. Back on the tee, Lane,

:15:24.:15:30.

Fowler and Koch will be hoping for something similar.

:15:30.:15:34.

A dog leg right to left, a drive to the top of the hill, just over the

:15:34.:15:39.

top. That is a very nice tee shot there from Gary Koch. That is

:15:39.:15:45.

exactly what you want to be. Settle the early nerves. Now, Fowler

:15:45.:15:55.
:15:55.:16:02.

scrum -- certainly from this three ball. He has put some length on.

:16:02.:16:11.

There is a school of the stock -- school of thought that suggests he

:16:11.:16:21.
:16:21.:16:26.

hits the ball as far now as he does trousers. He has hit it short of

:16:26.:16:36.
:16:36.:16:37.

this green, a good 5060 yards short. -- 50-60 yards short.

:16:37.:16:47.
:16:47.:16:55.

man, Ross Drummond. Delightful rhythm, one hurried through the

:16:55.:16:59.

ball. He is one of the European Senior Tour's nearly men when it

:16:59.:17:05.

comes to capturing titles. And there would nearly applied to his

:17:05.:17:09.

second shot, attacking birdie on number four.

:17:09.:17:16.

He has come close a few times, back on the first with Gary Koch. In a

:17:16.:17:23.

friendly position. Anything left of the pin is a water

:17:23.:17:30.

hazard. What a shot to open up with. I don't think it is unfair to call

:17:30.:17:36.

him a part-time work in competitive terms, but he is. -- a part-time

:17:36.:17:42.

worker in competitive terms. It is amazing how competitive he

:17:42.:17:52.
:17:52.:18:07.

has been this week. was going to wear those tartan

:18:08.:18:17.
:18:18.:18:23.

trousers yesterday. He has kept to better. I seem to remember he had a

:18:23.:18:33.
:18:33.:18:43.

a gimme. A strange quip Ross Drummond has there. -- a strange

:18:43.:18:50.

grip. All of them are waiting to break

:18:50.:18:56.

through for that first win. This takes Drummond to three under,

:18:56.:19:03.

and that takes Fowler immediately to nine under. He was tied with

:19:03.:19:08.

Lane overnight with Koch a shot behind. Is that the only birdie we

:19:08.:19:16.

are going to see? I doubt it. Lane the closest. Koch to get to 8 under,

:19:16.:19:21.

back into the breeze, slightly uphill.

:19:21.:19:26.

Is this a sign of things to come this afternoon?

:19:26.:19:30.

He is a class act. We have mentioned his six wins on the PGA

:19:30.:19:40.
:19:40.:19:46.

What a final - but what a start from the final three ball. Three

:19:46.:19:56.
:19:56.:20:01.

to all birdie the first. Now I gap has developed to Des Smith and Carl

:20:01.:20:07.

Mason. Up ahead, one of those two enjoyed a pleasing start - Bob

:20:07.:20:12.

Cameron claimed the fourth. He is now four under, possibly on course

:20:12.:20:16.

for his fourth top-ten result of the season.

:20:16.:20:22.

Mark James must two fairlys on the opening round, but he improved, as

:20:22.:20:25.

you would expect, to three under par.

:20:25.:20:29.

But the man behind the most concerted early news is Ross

:20:29.:20:34.

Drummond, from Prestwick on Scotland's west coast. With a hat-

:20:34.:20:37.

trick of birdies from the fourth onwards, this was the middle one.

:20:37.:20:47.
:20:47.:20:47.

Ross, runner-up in 2007, has zoomed into the top six.

:20:47.:20:53.

Ian Woosnam, up on the fifth, first par 3 on the front now. 178 yards

:20:53.:21:03.
:21:03.:21:06.

down hill, the pin located 32 on 10 the slope and a wonderful shot from

:21:06.:21:13.

Woosie, just favourable reaction from the breeze.

:21:13.:21:21.

What a three ball this is. Woosie, Des Smith and Carl Mason. Decades

:21:21.:21:31.
:21:31.:21:39.

of experience. Des Smith won at Woburn last year,

:21:39.:21:44.

and at Van Lanschot in Holland. Look at this.

:21:44.:21:54.
:21:54.:22:08.

shots into this testing par three describe the pin position want the

:22:08.:22:14.

third hole today, especially when you are coming from rough like this.

:22:14.:22:20.

They have moved the tee up over 406 yards, unfortunately he has got a

:22:20.:22:27.

clean light. He has to play left of the pin, because when it is tucked

:22:27.:22:33.

away there is not a lot of room. The bunker that beats in at the

:22:34.:22:43.
:22:44.:22:44.

front, very little room to pitch it. One thing that you rarely see on

:22:44.:22:50.

the links, but -- a water hazard, but the lake on the side comes into

:22:50.:22:54.

play. It used to be a par five, this hole,

:22:54.:23:00.

made a par four this week. On the wrong side really, coming out of

:23:00.:23:04.

the semi rough, but he has controlled it well.

:23:04.:23:09.

A couple of groups before these. We saw John Harrison's title hopes

:23:09.:23:15.

explode when he made a seven. He found the hazard.

:23:15.:23:20.

Coming up the fair way, good follow-through, some spin, and that

:23:21.:23:27.

is brilliant. Gary Koch with a great chance, they have not been

:23:27.:23:32.

that many birdies here this week. Let me quickly tell you, Peter

:23:32.:23:38.

Fowler's course record, 65, has been equalled today from Dennis

:23:38.:23:42.

O'Sullivan from Ireland. Fantastic effort, Dennis, well done.

:23:42.:23:46.

Mason has got another one at the fifth, and that takes him to six

:23:46.:23:51.

under par. That weapon he is holding in his right hand has been

:23:51.:24:01.
:24:01.:24:05.

incredible since he became a senior good to see a birdie barrage today.

:24:05.:24:15.
:24:15.:24:17.

The breeze is up again. Woosie, right half, ball on... Dear me. I

:24:17.:24:25.

bet that hat. He had won similar on the third. -- I bet that hurt. He

:24:25.:24:29.

very nearly lifted in the jaws, but I think the breeze it might have

:24:29.:24:39.
:24:39.:24:43.

Woosnam, he wears his heart on his sleeve. He is not impassive.

:24:43.:24:48.

Des Smith, surely he is going to hold this after a wonderful tee

:24:48.:24:58.
:24:58.:25:00.

shot. He does indeed. Two bigger of the three make birdies. His is in

:25:00.:25:09.

charge. Fowler on the third. A car alarm

:25:09.:25:13.

goes off in the distance, it would do well to break this man's

:25:13.:25:18.

concentration. He is into his own, and, as they say, rolling his rock

:25:18.:25:26.

nicely. We talked about the greens being 10,

:25:26.:25:30.

they are quicker than that now. We have had beautiful weather here. I

:25:30.:25:34.

think the players are delighted with how the conditions have been,

:25:34.:25:43.

because they have been consistent. Get him. Good try from Lane. They

:25:43.:25:49.

were expecting perhaps rain, but it has not come and it has been a

:25:49.:25:53.

wonderful place to play golf. Surely going to be a par four

:25:53.:26:00.

Fowler, which means if Gary Koch can pop in a birdie, we will have

:26:00.:26:08.

three leaders. My word! It fell in against the

:26:08.:26:16.

wind, but it is in and Koch in -- joins fellow and Lane at nine under.

:26:16.:26:23.

The benefits of gravity, 9, 9, 9, the trio at the top. It remains

:26:23.:26:29.

early days, but Fowler, Lane and especially Koch must be satisfied

:26:29.:26:35.

with their starts. Ian Woosnam birdied the par-five

:26:35.:26:40.

Six for the second time in as many days. He is back where he started

:26:40.:26:47.

the day at four under. From one format European Ryder Cup

front nine. He reached the turn on 32 and made another birdie on the

:26:57.:27:02.

tenth to infiltrate the top 10. Look at this. That is Carl Mason.

:27:02.:27:10.

He is coming out of the bunker here on eight... From bunker to hole.

:27:10.:27:13.

That eases the pain of a double bogey setback on the short par

:27:46.:27:51.

St Andrew's is known for forcing players to hit putts from miles out,

:27:51.:27:57.

but on the fifth Barry Lane judged this monster it to perfection. That

:27:57.:28:01.

carried the defending champion -- and the defending champion to 10

:28:09.:28:13.

has been excellent this week, and another example of the American's

:28:13.:28:21.

patch came on the seventh. Simple, accurate and 10 under.

:28:21.:28:26.

A double bogey five on the 11th stopped Ross Drummond in his tracks.

:28:26.:28:33.

Smith and Fowler shared the third, but a top it is Lane and Koch. They

:28:33.:28:38.

are a bit -- about to tackle the simplest -- shortest, but not the

:28:38.:28:48.
:28:48.:28:55.

simplest hole on the course, at the Even though it is only a short hole,

:28:56.:29:00.

you have got to be pinpoint accurate, because the ball will

fall off front right. Can Lane for? -- follow?

:29:09.:29:14.

Very smart in his tartan trousers. It has not played easily all day,

:29:14.:29:24.

this hole. Good, crisp, attack of the ball and he is up to the task.

:29:24.:29:34.
:29:34.:29:40.

Koch will get a partial read from always sensible, laying up. His

:29:40.:29:45.

wedge doing the business. Not quite as much grab as he may have

:29:45.:29:51.

anticipated. He came in quite low there, did not

:29:51.:29:58.

get the put asunder first bounce. Releasing the club beautifully, and

:29:58.:30:03.

he has got a little more spin on it. Great contact.

:30:03.:30:07.

Maybe the boys behind will have a go at this green. They beheaded

has seen a Barry Lane regain top position. This is Paul Curry, who

:31:56.:32:02.

shot a 60 ended 1992 Scottish Open. His 71 today wasn't record-breaking

:32:02.:32:06.

but we couldn't resist showing his approach to the 18th. What the

:32:06.:32:12.

leaders would give for that. After birdieing the 8th, Woosnam at

:33:16.:33:24.

With Gary Koch birdie -- bogeying the 13th, Barry Lane is now way

clear. This is the shot back towards the North Sea. A little

:34:00.:34:07.

And he continues to show it, what an approach. Yes, what a time to

by birdieing the closing two holes. He is guaranteed to be the best

15th. With Barry Lane only managing par, Gary Koch needed to hole his

:37:10.:37:20.
:37:20.:37:27.

dramatic finish could well be on the cards. Des Smyth and Peter

Fowler are tied for third. Gary Koch his second, just a single shot

behind Barry Lane -- he's second. That is how it stayed when they are

both part number 16. Yes, and just two holes left of this fantastic

:37:42.:37:50.

tournament. Gary Koch with the honour. The 8-iron, 184 yards.

on the first two days. No mistake And he draws it in from right to

:38:26.:38:33.

left. So they are hard to separate at the moment. A slender lead that

:38:34.:38:42.

Barry Lane has. It might be about to evaporate. 527 yards, the 18th

:38:42.:38:46.

is the joint lengthiest hole on the course, but it is within range of

:38:46.:38:56.
:38:56.:38:56.

Des Smyth in two. It is a hole with the second shot... Stay up, that

:38:56.:39:00.

will leave a entertaining putt. You can pitch it 45 yards short over

:39:00.:39:05.

the back of the bunkers and it will fall short, or you can fire it up a

:39:05.:39:09.

little bit further, but whichever way you choose to play it, it is a

:39:09.:39:18.

definite birdie chance. Even an eagle chance. Down there, honest,

:39:18.:39:22.

was Ian Woosnam. You will see him in a moment. There he is. The

:39:22.:39:26.

format Masters champion has a birdie putt to finish at 6-under. -

:39:26.:39:31.

- former. And he has won the Scottish Open on the regular Tour

:39:31.:39:36.

three times. Now, Carl Mason, it would be when number 25, but it is

:39:36.:39:46.
:39:46.:39:50.

a very fine performance -- it won't absolutely brilliant. It has left

:39:50.:40:00.
:40:00.:40:06.

along in their thousands to enjoy this. The weather has been great

:40:06.:40:16.
:40:16.:40:17.

all week, as we know. Now Woosie, a fraction left to right.

:40:23.:40:33.
:40:33.:40:47.

finish off as well -- for Ian nevertheless. Another solid

:40:47.:40:57.
:40:57.:41:07.

performance from Carl Mason. Two for Des Smith. We talked about his

:41:07.:41:13.

win in Holland. He shot 62 in the final round in Bad Ragaz. And

:41:13.:41:21.

number of top-ten finishes here, and currently in third place.

:41:21.:41:30.

us is crucial - downhill, it must swing the little from left to right.

:41:30.:41:40.
:41:40.:41:44.

My word, what an effort. On 12 under, and Koch has a putt to join

:41:44.:41:54.
:41:54.:41:58.

right-to-left. But I do not believe it. Half an ounce more and that

:41:58.:42:04.

would have held its line. I bet Barry Lane cannot believe it. Six-

:42:04.:42:13.

time winner on the PGA Tour on a medic -- in America, trailed by 18.

:42:13.:42:17.

By Leonard when collapse on the 18th, the title appears to rest

:42:17.:42:27.
:42:27.:42:32.

between Lane and Woosie fulls -- hand side is the shortest route to

:42:32.:42:38.

the green, this looks of the left. He needs ally in the rough, and it

:42:38.:42:45.

looks like he has a pearler. He is concerned, he knows he has missed

:42:45.:42:55.
:42:55.:43:01.

the fairway and it is in the lap of luxury of a cushion coming up the

:43:01.:43:10.

18th. This here - that is a big drive - at different scenario.

:43:10.:43:14.

This tournament has had pretty much everything.

:43:14.:43:20.

Good weather, good scoring, and now a thrilling conclusion. That is

:43:20.:43:24.

what they are playing for, the Scottish Senior Open trophy, and a

:43:24.:43:34.
:43:34.:43:42.

first prize of just over 42,000 through this final round, but he

:43:42.:43:49.

has not stayed at the police -- stayed the pace. He is finishing in

:43:49.:43:57.

style. If he holds that, it takes him to 11 under, Lane could bogey...

:43:57.:44:07.
:44:07.:44:07.

You never know. The man from Florida leans in close.

:44:07.:44:17.
:44:17.:44:30.

Good contact. Steady now, don't go Anything on the greens here and he

:44:30.:44:40.
:44:40.:44:54.

already on the green. He knew he had to at least find the green. It

:44:54.:45:00.

is not over, but it is looking very much like Lane to retain.

:45:00.:45:06.

Whatever transpires now, the winner is going to blitz the records going

:45:06.:45:10.

-- the record score for the tournament. 21 players finishing

:45:10.:45:17.

under par. I would bust ball to his caddy, Ian Watson, a local, who has

:45:17.:45:26.

done a sterling job. -- a word must go to his caddy.

:45:26.:45:33.

A get to 13 under par, amazing. The pace looks pretty good, but the

:45:34.:45:40.

line isn't. Barry will be slightly rosy -- relieved to see he has not

:45:40.:45:50.
:45:50.:46:10.

helped that. Two putts will do. exclamation point.

:46:10.:46:17.

He turns on the style. His wife, at the back of the green, smiles at

:46:17.:46:27.
:46:27.:46:38.

Fowler. He is going to tie at 10 under. You are not easily impressed,

:46:38.:46:42.

but will be impressed by this - it is going to be his seventh drop

:46:42.:46:47.

fives -- top-five finish of the campaign.

:46:47.:46:53.

It's is no surprise to me, and I am impressed. I am -- I am impressed

:46:53.:46:58.

with this man as well, a complete gentleman, he has, over, but he has

:46:58.:47:07.

come up short. -- he has come over. A smashing battle, played in a very

:47:07.:47:14.

good spirit. As you say, John, Koch gave it everything and then some,

:47:14.:47:17.

and produced a remarkable performance given his shortage of

:47:17.:47:22.

competitive golf this year. As was the case 12 months ago, Lane

:47:22.:47:29.

prevailed. Last year he was four under par, this year he is 10 shots

:47:29.:47:39.
:47:39.:47:43.

lower down and the Scottish Senior I'm played very nicely yesterday

:47:43.:47:50.

and today. Whether it is the course, I do not know whether it suits my

:47:50.:47:54.

eye, maybe it is Scotland, I have my tartans on. By asked if I could

:47:54.:47:59.

wear this, they said it was all right. I love this golf course.

:47:59.:48:02.

right. I love this golf course. A what are the fine natural

Oldcorn. That is a bonus for Barry Lane, but keeping the trophy was

:48:18.:48:21.

always the main objective and the reason he returned to St Andrew's

:48:21.:48:30.

rather than played in the States this week. He returned in style
