Hello, welcome to a new series of Ski Sunday. We are back in the

:00:56.:00:59.

mountains to printed the best winter sport action from across the

:00:59.:01:05.

planet. We are in the hands of Andrea, one of the biggest storms

:01:05.:01:09.

in the last decade, which means an incredible amount of snow and a

:01:09.:01:19.
:01:19.:01:20.

fantastic Ski Sunday 2012. For the next two months, we will give you

:01:20.:01:24.

the best of the skiing at racing, with the biggest names in the sport.

:01:25.:01:29.

Nothing is stopping you from going faster. From the longest to the

:01:29.:01:34.

most terrifying, we will have all of the downhill drama. We will be

:01:34.:01:38.

catching up with the best of British, the men and women

:01:38.:01:46.

threatening to take the Olympics in 2014 by storm. What a season we

:01:46.:01:52.

have ahead, we start in Switzerland with the men's giant slalom. It is

:01:52.:02:02.
:02:02.:02:13.

Later, an exclusive look at life on the women's tour. Plus, I catch up

:02:13.:02:23.

with Jenny Jones, the golden girl of British snowboarding. Here, it

:02:23.:02:28.

is giant slalom. What can we expect? This is one of the toughest

:02:28.:02:33.

courses on the World Cup circuit, it changes to rain at the top, and

:02:33.:02:39.

it drops onto a steep finish, into the arena. With all of the noise

:02:39.:02:44.

and excitement, and a lot of pressure on the racist as they dive

:02:44.:02:50.

over. -- pressure on the racers. The race organisers have spent two

:02:50.:02:57.

nights clearing the snow, and it is back down to the bullet-proof ice.

:02:57.:03:03.

Put your money where your mouth is. I think Ted Ligeti has got a point

:03:03.:03:09.

to prove, he has been the best for the pest -- for the past two years,

:03:09.:03:16.

but he has never won on this course. It is not a risky call, in the form

:03:16.:03:23.

he is in. He is under pressure, there are two youngsters coming

:03:23.:03:27.

through, the young Frenchman, he started the season with a second

:03:27.:03:32.

place, and then there is Marcel Hirscher, he is exciting to watch,

:03:32.:03:38.

and he is on a winning streak, full of confidence. But never roll-out

:03:38.:03:46.

Aksel Lund Svindal. We will put it to the test. Here are the few facts

:03:46.:03:51.

about our Adelboden that you almost certainly did not know. Some of

:03:51.:03:59.

these facts might be stretching the truth just a little bit!

:03:59.:04:04.

We love for a fact, and this is the turn of Adelboden. This was the

:04:04.:04:12.

destination for the first ever skiing package holiday. It was an

:04:12.:04:15.

entrepreneur who bought but report the first band of British skiers

:04:15.:04:22.

here, and he founded the travel agents Lunn Poly. Unfortunately,

:04:22.:04:31.

the fledgling tourist industry took a hit when reports of an aggressive

:04:31.:04:38.

animal reached the outside world! It is a funny story! It has twice

:04:38.:04:43.

won the gold medal off would stacking! It is something that the

:04:43.:04:48.

locals take immense pride in! have never heard of that! I cannot

:04:48.:04:55.

confirm that! Adelboden is home to the oldest chalet built by the

:04:55.:04:59.

World Association of Girl Guides and scouts. They have been coming

:04:59.:05:06.

here to enjoy the resort since the 30s. The focus this week is on the

:05:06.:05:13.

World Cup. Do you know what you're the first race was held? -- what

:05:13.:05:19.

year? 56 years ago? That is the wrong answer. The race has been

:05:20.:05:29.
:05:30.:05:30.

running for 57 years. The first race was held a 1955. -- held in

:05:30.:05:34.

1955. This race is a classic, and year after year, all of the big

:05:34.:05:41.

names are here. They like to do things a little different here. On

:05:41.:05:48.

the Friday night before the race, the top seeds enter via his

:05:48.:05:55.

appliance over the ground. This is a tiny crowd in comparison to the

:05:55.:05:59.

25,000 spectators who will be here tomorrow, guaranteeing an intense

:05:59.:06:06.

atmosphere. Luckily for the organisers, the sky

:06:06.:06:12.

cleared last night, and at 4 am, they had taken the new snow off the

:06:12.:06:18.

piste. Half a metre has fallen in the last couple of days. They then

:06:18.:06:22.

plugged the water injection Parkin and injected water at a depth of a

:06:22.:06:27.

fort underneath the piste. That froze hard, and it made for a

:06:27.:06:37.
:06:37.:06:38.

challenging first run. Despite his coach's enthusiasm, this was the

:06:38.:06:46.

first casualty. The German did not fare much better. Not the most

:06:46.:06:53.

dignified way to cross the finish line! Last year's runner, Cyprien

:06:53.:07:00.

Richard, putting a strong time. Nobody could top this year's top

:07:00.:07:05.

two. Ted Ligeti looked well placed to start the second run with the

:07:05.:07:11.

lead, but Marcel Hirscher pipped him, despite a lost ball. 0.7

:07:11.:07:19.

seconds celebrating them. France's young hotshot look set for a top-

:07:19.:07:24.

three placing, only for a big mistake to leave him frustrated in

:07:24.:07:34.
:07:34.:07:35.

17th place. Italy's interests were kept alive with a masterclass of

:07:35.:07:42.

skier and, third place. The Austrian made it big move, putting

:07:42.:07:47.

himself in contention, in sixth place. The tricky course proved too

:07:47.:07:57.
:07:57.:07:58.

much for some of the big names. Bode Miller never really got going.

:07:58.:08:03.

This year hit the ice in spectacular fashion. The Frenchman

:08:03.:08:11.

failed to escape -- failed to stay on two skis. Most of the focus was

:08:11.:08:15.

on the second run, which would cram the winner of the Ardel Boden giant

:08:15.:08:21.

slalom. -- crowned the winner. The course is set for the second run,

:08:21.:08:25.

it is a different pattern of gates, but it is equally as tough. It

:08:25.:08:31.

looks like the snow is coming in. They will not be able to see all of

:08:31.:08:35.

the bumps. It will be very challenging. I get the feeling that

:08:35.:08:40.

the skier who makes the least mistakes will win. The atmosphere

:08:40.:08:46.

is building. Marcel Hirscher leads, but he only has 0.7 seconds on 10

:08:46.:08:56.
:08:56.:09:17.

joint winner here 12 months ago. He shared the win with Cyprien Richard.

:09:17.:09:21.

This is good work, he is covering it up nicely. He has picked up a

:09:21.:09:27.

lot of speed, but it is too much speed. He could not make the right

:09:27.:09:37.
:09:37.:09:44.

footed term, and he skids out into block. He shot to fourth place in

:09:44.:09:50.

the standings. He has form, winning the World Junior Championships in

:09:50.:10:00.
:10:00.:10:15.

team made up. -- over his team-mate. Full attack at the top. Half-French,

:10:15.:10:20.

half Norwegian. He got airborne there. He managed to control the

:10:20.:10:30.
:10:30.:10:33.

landing. He is looking for the tuck position. He has a huge lead it. --

:10:33.:10:40.

huge lead. A little late over the last couple of turns, but he will

:10:40.:10:50.
:10:50.:11:00.

good first run, but he made a big mistake. The second run was as

:11:00.:11:05.

close to the fences as you can get. He has thrown down the gauntlet to

:11:05.:11:15.
:11:15.:11:24.

the top. It goes relatively flat afterwards for a little while. He

:11:24.:11:32.

was third here 12 months ago. A couple of emergency manoeuvres. He

:11:32.:11:39.

has paid the price for the mistakes. He trails by just over a quarter of

:11:39.:11:48.

a second. No sunshine to show the way, it is flap like all the way. -

:11:48.:11:54.

- it is flat light. You just have to anticipate the best you can, and

:11:54.:12:04.
:12:04.:12:05.

take a gamble. He is coming towards the conclusion. He is all over the

:12:05.:12:09.

place. Age huge jump. He went through the middle of the gate

:12:09.:12:19.
:12:19.:12:32.

He has got the breaks on. He has run out of gas. He might just sneak

:12:32.:12:42.
:12:42.:12:44.

into second. The house. -- he has. He is exhausted.

:12:44.:12:49.

Ivica Kostelic comes from a family of skiers, and he had a spectacular

:12:49.:12:55.

season last year, his titles built upon a series of blistering winds

:12:55.:12:58.

in January, and he will do everything he can to stop this year

:12:58.:13:07.

in similar fashion. -- to start this year.

:13:07.:13:17.
:13:17.:13:18.

He had a good first run. Despite all of his achievements, he has

:13:18.:13:23.

never won a World Cup giant slalom race. Slalom has always been his

:13:23.:13:28.

speciality. Last year, he won the overall title. But this is the

:13:28.:13:35.

discipline that eludes him. He should be when ink. -- he should be

:13:35.:13:45.
:13:45.:14:01.

coming into the pitch. A nice early turn. Is it too conservative? He is

:14:01.:14:11.

only third. He holds his head. As he came on to the finish, he

:14:11.:14:15.

wiped his goggles, because it is almost rain in, it is almost

:14:15.:14:21.

snowing. He had an eye on the overall World Cup, he was not

:14:21.:14:31.
:14:31.:14:44.

really pushing it. He was just had a few injury problems at the

:14:44.:14:49.

start of the season, but he is back to full fitness now. He is keen to

:14:49.:14:56.

start the year on his success followed. -- on a successful note.

:14:56.:15:06.
:15:06.:15:13.

Tay lost a bit of time. But he is couple of tents, has to harness

:15:13.:15:18.

that speed now as he approaches the final quarter and this face down

:15:18.:15:23.

towards the finish, which catches so many of them out - a little

:15:23.:15:29.

check sideways, might have lost a little bit of his speed. Next split,

:15:29.:15:35.

2.26.14 for the Frenchman. Baumann is just ahead - only 15/100. Can't

:15:36.:15:40.

afford any mistakes on the final steep pitch. Loads of Austrians

:15:41.:15:50.
:15:51.:15:53.

here watching on, and Baumann is skiing it cleanly. He gets it, not

:15:53.:15:59.

by much, but enough, 8 1/100 of a second in front. What I

:15:59.:16:04.

particularly like about him is he's so smooth on his edges. He doesn't

:16:04.:16:08.

get that whip of some of the lighter, more aggressive skiers,

:16:08.:16:10.

but particularly there these conditions when the course is bad,

:16:10.:16:15.

he's so smooth and so loose and took the lead off Pinturault -

:16:15.:16:25.
:16:25.:16:33.

way here. He's tasted plenty of success here - three times he has

:16:33.:16:39.

been the champion of this classic giant slalom. He thrives in these

:16:39.:16:45.

conditions. Look at him pushing at the start, terrific speed from

:16:45.:16:49.

Bennie Raich, who missed most of last season with a terrible injury.

:16:49.:16:54.

He's really going - now half a second up, Baumann, Pinturault,

:16:54.:17:02.

Fanara, the one-two-three. Raich is hungry for more success. He's

:17:02.:17:09.

getting quicker - .64 up, a master class so far from Bennie Raich. Now,

:17:10.:17:13.

then, he knows this hill better than just about anybody as he

:17:13.:17:17.

ploughs through the middle of that gate. Didn't affect his

:17:17.:17:20.

concentration, wonderful mental strength to ignore what just went

:17:20.:17:29.

on. And he focuses on the final steep section, and what focus from

:17:29.:17:37.

Raich, 1.33 seconds ahead. He's miles away from everybody else -

:17:37.:17:42.

lovely turns, wonderful carved turns from Ben Raich. He'll cruise

:17:42.:17:46.

into first position - 1.2 seconds better than Baumann - we have a new

:17:46.:17:49.

leader. APPLAUSE

:17:49.:17:53.

Benjamin Raich is officially now back. He's on the comeback from

:17:53.:17:57.

injury, but that run was truly superb. He's a big race skier, and

:17:57.:18:02.

he responds well to a crowd like this.

:18:02.:18:08.

Cyprien Richard surprised everyone last year with a surprising second

:18:08.:18:12.

run at Adelboden that catapulted him into first place. It was his

:18:12.:18:16.

first and ever win, though he did record a credible second at the

:18:16.:18:24.

World Championships in Garnish. Cyprien Richard from France, fifth

:18:24.:18:32.

after the first run, just after 2/10, from Ben Raich. He's still

:18:32.:18:36.

pushing where he can with the ski pulls against some of the early

:18:36.:18:39.

turns. The upper body is a little bit wild, but look at his speed

:18:39.:18:43.

across the snow. He really wants this one today. He's a little late

:18:43.:18:48.

there, and some of his speed was wiped out, and as a result, his

:18:48.:18:55.

lead is down to just 3 1/100 of a second. An early mistake from

:18:55.:19:04.

Cyprien Richard. Can he claw some of that back? It's a wild,

:19:04.:19:07.

unorthodox technique that he employs, and the early mistakes

:19:07.:19:12.

have caught up with him - almost half a second slower than Benjamin

:19:12.:19:19.

Raich, who, you may remember, was supremely quick on the bottom

:19:19.:19:22.

second. He may not finish. That's it. It's gone. He had to put the

:19:22.:19:27.

hand brake on and make sure of the last turn, and as a result, his

:19:27.:19:33.

chance has slipped away. There will be no defence of the giant slalom

:19:33.:19:38.

he won alongside Aksel Lund Svindal and Slindal a year ago. He'll be

:19:38.:19:48.
:19:48.:19:48.

happy to finish after a catalogue of errors. Benjamin Raich's lead is

:19:48.:19:53.

secure. He's nearly a full second off the pace. That mistake, hooking

:19:53.:19:58.

his hand inside the gate, getting spun around, shoulders twisted out,

:19:58.:20:02.

has cost him the chance to win this race again. It's looking pretty

:20:02.:20:11.

strong for Raich though. Another Frenchman, Steve Missillier

:20:11.:20:14.

is next, a sensational first run from him, but what a way to start

:20:14.:20:22.

his second leg with a dreadful error - five gates in. He began

:20:22.:20:28.

with 4/10 advantage, he'll be well behind Bennie Raich at the next

:20:28.:20:33.

intermediate here after that dreadful error at the top. 6/10

:20:33.:20:39.

down. He has no chance now but to put his foot to the floor and try

:20:39.:20:45.

to close down some of the time he's lost, but it's a thankless task in

:20:45.:20:48.

deteriorating conditions. The visibility for him is just about as

:20:48.:20:58.

bad as it has been all afternoon. A second-and-a-half down now. There

:20:58.:21:03.

is an air of silence in the Finnish error as they watch him come down.

:21:03.:21:07.

Everybody saw the mistake he made at the top of the hill on the big

:21:07.:21:11.

screen. He'll get some sympathetic applause as he comes over the rise

:21:11.:21:16.

into the steep pitch, but it's a blown opportunity for Steve

:21:16.:21:24.

Messillier from France. Making sure of the finish now,

:21:24.:21:32.

Raich is happy. Raich remains in first position, and he's way down

:21:32.:21:39.

the list in sixth. This is where he blew his chance,

:21:39.:21:47.

got his skis sideways and had to come in like a beginning.

:21:47.:21:52.

Max Blardone is Italy's specialist racer. He won back in 2005 on his

:21:52.:21:58.

way to six GCS titles in his career. He started on home snow, but in

:21:58.:22:05.

recent years, he hasn't done too well outside of Italy.

:22:05.:22:11.

Max Blardone is in the start with an advantage over Bennie Raich of

:22:11.:22:16.

three-quarters of a second. Will that be enough? The winner of the

:22:16.:22:20.

most recent giant slalom on the Tuesday, round four, held just

:22:20.:22:24.

before the new year, his first win for awhile - he doesn't get that

:22:24.:22:29.

much of an opportunity to race because he only takes part in giant

:22:29.:22:34.

slalom competitions, and there are only about eight or nine each year,

:22:34.:22:39.

so outings for Max Blardone are few and far between. He's lost a couple

:22:39.:22:44.

of 10ths, then loses a load of speed. That was a huge mistake.

:22:44.:22:48.

That might just be the end of his challenge here in Switzerland, and

:22:48.:22:55.

the red light is on. He's 3/10 down. He, at times, can be very effective

:22:55.:22:58.

when it's particularly steep. Unfortunately for him, the steepest

:22:58.:23:02.

section of this course comes right at the end when he'll be on the

:23:02.:23:07.

edge of his stamina. It's beginning to show. Can he pull something out

:23:07.:23:13.

of the bag and try and recover the lost ground? .37 - it's going the

:23:13.:23:19.

wrong way for him. He's drifting further beyond the reach of Bennie

:23:19.:23:24.

Raich. Now, then, on to the steep, nice turns - he's gone a little bit

:23:24.:23:29.

left in the tank, and Blardone is leaving it all on the hill. Oh,

:23:29.:23:37.

what a fight-back, 2/100 of a second behind Bennie Raich. He's

:23:37.:23:39.

shattered. Max Blardone is absolutely superb

:23:39.:23:44.

on the steep sections of a giant slalom, and he proved it there,

:23:44.:23:48.

coming on to the finish pitch. The line that he took through that

:23:48.:23:51.

double gate turn was just absolutely perfect, and then he

:23:51.:23:57.

carried that speed all the way down the pitch and only just behind

:23:57.:23:59.

Benjamin Raich. If he hadn't made that mistake on the middle flat

:23:59.:24:03.

part of the course, he'd have taken the lead.

:24:03.:24:06.

Ted Ligety, the giant slalom specialist and world champion,

:24:06.:24:11.

should be the man to beat in Adelboden, having dominated GS in

:24:11.:24:15.

recent years, but this hill is his nemesis. He's never won here,

:24:15.:24:21.

blowing a big lead last year. His team will be hoping he can shred it

:24:21.:24:28.

up this time around. Ted Ligety - 1.04 seconds is his

:24:28.:24:31.

advantage over Benjamin Raich. Will that be enough to see him through

:24:31.:24:36.

to the lead in Adelboden? The snow that's falling is more like rain

:24:36.:24:42.

now, fine rain at the bottom of the course. Conditions aren't great,

:24:42.:24:47.

but Ligety is really flying at the top. A mistake just before that red.

:24:47.:24:55.

Some of his time has gone, but enough - .93 up. The leader in the

:24:55.:24:59.

World Cup giant slalom standings for this season with two wins - the

:24:59.:25:06.

opener in October and then on home snow in Colorado in Beaver creek.

:25:06.:25:10.

Those are the races in which he's triumphed so far, but this is

:25:10.:25:15.

beginning to move away from him - half a second down, and Ted Ligety

:25:15.:25:20.

has lost his rhythm. The racing line is way over to the right. He's

:25:20.:25:28.

off the ideal course, and I think Raich is safe - next split, 2.24.86

:25:28.:25:36.

for Raich, and Ted Ligety is now behind, 2 1,100 of a second down.

:25:36.:25:41.

The steep section - can he told it together? Ted Ligety with a lot of

:25:41.:25:50.

support. Goes or for the line, goes for the lead - just outside - 6

:25:50.:25:53.

/100 outside. It's only good for third, which means the worst place

:25:53.:25:57.

Raich can finish is second. Ted Ligety, one mistake on that

:25:57.:26:03.

gate with the roller in it on the flatter part of the course comes

:26:03.:26:08.

across the line only 6/100 behind, but in third place, a massive grown

:26:08.:26:13.

from Ted Ligety, but he was pushing really hard, but just that one

:26:13.:26:16.

mistake cost him. Marcel Hirscher is the great young

:26:16.:26:21.

hope of the Austrian ski team and the man to watch the season. He's

:26:21.:26:26.

currently second in the GS standings and the overall leader.

:26:26.:26:30.

After ending his season last year with a broken ankle, he recovered

:26:30.:26:35.

in startling form with a GS and two slalom wins under his belt this

:26:36.:26:39.

season. The last man on the mountain is

:26:39.:26:45.

Marcel Hirscher, with more than a second advantage over Benjamin

:26:45.:26:51.

Raich. A couple of years ago he had posters of Benjamin Raich all over

:26:51.:26:59.

his wall. Now he's racing to beat him in Adelboden. He's just off the

:26:59.:27:04.

back of a slalom midweek in Zagreb that put him on the top of the

:27:04.:27:08.

overall standings - a good start, three-quarters of a second up on

:27:08.:27:12.

Raich, who leads Max Blardone, with Ted Ligety currently in third

:27:12.:27:19.

position. He's giving it everything - nice turn, .34 up. His advantage

:27:19.:27:26.

has been reduced again. Now, then, can he hold it together? Will it be

:27:26.:27:32.

the Austrian veteran, or will it be the youngster? Lovely turn through

:27:32.:27:36.

the middle of that panel - spectacular - then a mistake, and

:27:36.:27:41.

he had to recover. Some emergency manoeuvres being deployed by Marcel

:27:41.:27:48.

Hirscher to keep his challenge alive here in Adelboden. At the

:27:49.:27:53.

last intermediate, he was just 15/100 in front. Will that be

:27:53.:27:59.

enough? Raich can barely watch as he comes home to take the win in

:27:59.:28:04.

Adelboden by 8/100 of a second. He doesn't know yet. He hasn't seen it

:28:04.:28:11.

yet. He is asking the question. Is it me? Yes, it is! He's the winner

:28:11.:28:20.

here on the. They're calling him the new Benjamin Raich. The two of

:28:20.:28:29.

them can only be separated by 8/100 today.

:28:29.:28:34.

Marcel Hirscher said he came on to the slope with a really big skid.

:28:34.:28:38.

It looked like his legs were starting to give way, but he just

:28:38.:28:42.

had enough strength to hang on and carry that speed across the line.

:28:42.:28:46.

It's Austria, one and two. What a great race in Adelboden, and

:28:46.:28:56.
:28:56.:29:13.

the victory goes to Marcel Hirscher would be Obi-Wan Kenobi. What is it

:29:13.:29:17.

like to be the master with someone so young and promising coming

:29:17.:29:22.

through? He's younger, but he's very strong, and he's much older in

:29:22.:29:26.

his mind than in his age. Yeah, I think he's really strong and the

:29:26.:29:30.

man of the future. I learned a lot from Bennie. He was always my

:29:31.:29:37.

biggest idol, so it's - it was pretty strange at the beginning

:29:37.:29:43.

when I came into the World Cup team sitting next to the big gladiator.

:29:43.:29:47.

You always look up to him, so sitting next to him is pretty

:29:47.:29:51.

strange, but it's a good, good thing, and I'm pretty proud to beat

:29:51.:29:57.

him today. He's a good guy. Sunday is on at the later time of

:29:57.:30:07.
:30:07.:30:13.

Pritam's Shelley Bradman took bronze in the women's skeleton at

:30:13.:30:21.

the European Championships in Germany. Amy Williams finished 20th.

:30:21.:30:29.

Congratulations to Marcel Hirscher, a tight race, 0.1 seconds

:30:29.:30:34.

separating first and third. For the women, it is just as tight. Chemmy

:30:34.:30:38.

Alcott is not racing, she is still recovering from a horrendous

:30:38.:30:42.

accident sustained last year in training. She has been back on tour,

:30:42.:30:45.

catching up with the friends who have supported her through the

:30:46.:30:51.

toughest year of her life. 12 months on from my worst career

:30:51.:30:56.

crash ever, I am back in the mountains, and I am Super excited

:30:56.:31:01.

to be here amongst my friends are. But I am here to beat somebody who

:31:01.:31:10.

is really special to me, and was there through my journey. We have

:31:10.:31:15.

been on this journey together for over a decade. It is a lot over a

:31:15.:31:21.

decade! We first met in New Zealand, we were at the Golden girls. We

:31:21.:31:26.

were quite jealous of each other. thought, this British girl is the

:31:26.:31:31.

best, I need to beat her! I thought, this American kid, she is really

:31:31.:31:39.

hot, I want to beat her! Unbeknown to us, we were kissing the same boy.

:31:39.:31:48.

We have good taste! That is why we get along so well! We are really

:31:48.:31:52.

similar people, you have excelled in the World Cup, more than me, but

:31:52.:32:02.
:32:02.:32:12.

I am still going to break through! Yes! I am here because I am getting

:32:12.:32:18.

my boot fitted four-minute lead, and I want to talk about my crash.

:32:18.:32:22.

When I crashed, you came to the hospital pretty much every day. I

:32:22.:32:28.

crashed on a hill you were racing on, so how did you change your mind

:32:28.:32:33.

set, no link that there was a term that I had fallen on? I am

:32:33.:32:36.

concerned for the well-being of my friend, but in general, it is

:32:36.:32:42.

mostly thinking about myself and being safe. The race goes on. You

:32:42.:32:51.

have to be able to calm -- compartmentalised. You are such an

:32:51.:33:01.
:33:01.:33:03.

over-rich Shiva! -- over achiever! I had a tough childhood. I focused

:33:03.:33:09.

my energy on skiing. That is what I brought with me through the years.

:33:09.:33:17.

And also, this fearless attitude, I just wanted to go fast, to beat my

:33:17.:33:26.

older sister, I wanted to be fearless. When you won the Olympics,

:33:26.:33:33.

the weather was horrendous. You Skeet like it was perfect

:33:33.:33:41.

conditions. He did not stir the day before. -- it did not know the day

:33:41.:33:46.

before. Is that your best ever victory? The Olympics is the

:33:46.:33:50.

pinnacle, it was exciting also in Vancouver, to be on the podium.

:33:50.:34:00.
:34:00.:34:03.

Twice. That was a lot of fun. went into the Olympics with not

:34:03.:34:07.

much confidence and evidence that you were going to be on the podium,

:34:07.:34:13.

but you turned it around. I had to be like, I know it is possible, and

:34:13.:34:17.

I have the training, so now it is about doing that and forgetting

:34:17.:34:23.

about everybody else. That is a big part of skiing, being clearly

:34:23.:34:27.

confident in yourself. It is not just self-confidence, believing in

:34:28.:34:33.

your own will, it is shutting out the negativity. Not letting

:34:33.:34:41.

anything affect how you feel. Being on the podium is amazing, but there

:34:41.:34:45.

is definitely a difference between being on the podium and winning. To

:34:45.:34:51.

win a race, everything has to be perfect. You have to think, I am

:34:51.:34:57.

going to win this race. You have to want to win. How will you win this

:34:57.:35:04.

year? It is tough, Linsey is skiing so fast. Winning a race is so

:35:04.:35:09.

different from being on a podium. She has won so many times, it

:35:09.:35:14.

becomes routine. When it becomes a habit, it is that much easier. She

:35:14.:35:20.

has a mental advantage by knowing what it takes to win. Look at this!

:35:20.:35:24.

You have officially made it, you have a dressing down with your name

:35:24.:35:30.

on it! It is weird, you can be such good friends with somebody to race

:35:30.:35:34.

against. It is like a family, we travelled the world, that is what

:35:34.:35:41.

keeps me doing the sport. It is tough to be away from home, but I

:35:41.:35:51.
:35:51.:35:56.

love travelling. It is fun to have It is two years until the winter

:35:56.:36:00.

Olympics, and we wish Chemmy Alcott all the best, and we hope she can

:36:00.:36:05.

recover in time. There will be a new event, and us British are good

:36:05.:36:15.
:36:15.:36:16.

at it. Could we be about to win our first ever gold medal on the snow?

:36:16.:36:20.

I look at her as they could influence and as a great stone

:36:20.:36:24.

border. She was one of the goals from the get go, hitting the big

:36:24.:36:32.

jumps. I like that. To stand out for as long -- he has is amazing.

:36:33.:36:40.

She has made me better at snowboarding. I grew up in Bristol.

:36:40.:36:46.

An average family. I did other sports, gymnastics, athletics,

:36:46.:36:52.

swimming, and I liked them, but this, the adrenalin rush, the speed,

:36:52.:36:58.

it was always so exciting. I said, how can I do this more? What

:36:58.:37:04.

decision did you come to? I thought, I have finished my A-levels, I

:37:04.:37:08.

applied for university, and I told my parents I would like to take a

:37:08.:37:14.

year out and be a chalet maid! I have worked in a small chalet, but

:37:14.:37:17.

after 20 guests, cooked breakfast every day, changed the beds, clean

:37:17.:37:23.

the toilets, and every day I went to the mountains and enjoyed

:37:23.:37:27.

snowboarding. I met professionals, they watched me, they said, you

:37:27.:37:31.

should come to the British championships, and I said, I do not

:37:31.:37:41.

know how to get there. I went along, and that was it. That was one of my

:37:41.:37:46.

first pick contexts -- contests. For the next two years, it was

:37:46.:37:56.
:37:56.:37:59.

going smoothly, and I got invited to the next Games. -- X Games. I

:37:59.:38:04.

started to practise, and that is when things went wrong. I was

:38:04.:38:10.

training at, and I've had a huge crash, and I hurt my knee. I never

:38:10.:38:20.
:38:20.:38:20.

got to compete. At that point, I was about to break into America,

:38:20.:38:29.

and it was cut short. Did you think it was over? No. The invitation

:38:29.:38:32.

list is doggedly the most prestigious in snowboarding. You

:38:32.:38:39.

made at 21, how long did it take to get back on the list? It was not

:38:39.:38:44.

for another four or five years. I thought, I will go back to that. I

:38:44.:38:49.

will get an invite, I will go. I did not care about what would

:38:49.:38:56.

happen, I just wanted to go again. It was funny, because I eventually

:38:56.:39:03.

got the invite. I was thinking, I will go next year. What happened

:39:03.:39:10.

with the first one? That was the best competitive moment of my life!

:39:10.:39:14.

I was in second place, I had one more run cannot afford, I have got

:39:14.:39:24.

nothing to lose. I looked up, I could see the gold,... I was such a

:39:24.:39:33.

loser, I started crying! Afford, no, I am the person who cries! You have

:39:33.:39:37.

sustained that level throughout. was happy to come back again and do

:39:37.:39:45.

well again. In Europe, that was amazing, because it was the resort

:39:45.:39:51.

that I had been a chalet maid at, 10 years ago! There were a few

:39:51.:39:57.

people around that time you. To get the gold medal, I am British, I am

:39:57.:40:02.

here, I might not have been through the conventional channels, but I am

:40:02.:40:12.
:40:12.:40:12.

just as capable as the European girls. How did you feel when you

:40:12.:40:17.

found out this was going to be in the Olympics? I tried not to think

:40:17.:40:24.

about it until I got the official confirmation. I got the phone call,

:40:24.:40:29.

and I was excited! It is positive for snowboarding that it is in

:40:29.:40:34.

there. I cannot expect too much at this stage, because I am doing well

:40:34.:40:38.

right now, but I do not know where I will be then. I did love to

:40:38.:40:44.

represent my country, but if I am not at that level, it is OK. As

:40:44.:40:49.

long as I have tried. We would love to see Jenny Jones on

:40:49.:40:55.

the podium, but in your heart of hearts, can she do it? I am an

:40:55.:41:00.

optimist, and I will say yes. She is our most consistently successful

:41:00.:41:05.

winter sport athlete. If it does not workout, she is training kit

:41:05.:41:09.

with another really strong that talent, so if she does not make it,

:41:09.:41:16.

I think her colleague well. For the men, we have Jamie Nichols. A lot

:41:16.:41:20.

of people are calling him the best all-round competition snowboarder

:41:20.:41:26.

in the world. That is issued call, very exciting. Anybody else

:41:26.:41:34.

commensurate? Billy Morgan, he exploded onto the international

:41:34.:41:43.

scene in December. This is why. It is pretty scary! There are four

:41:43.:41:50.

or five other people doing triples. It is pretty cool to join them. It

:41:50.:41:55.

was claimed on a couple of websites that I was the first one to do it.

:41:55.:42:00.

I do not know if somebody has done it before. I looked on YouTube

:42:00.:42:06.

defined videos, but there are no snowboarders who have done it. I

:42:06.:42:13.

thought about it a couple of times, but I think about a lot of tricks.

:42:13.:42:17.

A lot of the time, you never think you will do them, because you never

:42:17.:42:21.

get the opportunity. I do trampolining, so why have done

:42:21.:42:27.

triple backlit -- I have done trouble back flips. I thought it

:42:27.:42:34.

was realistic. I had a good bunch of days, riding. I did some double

:42:34.:42:41.

radios. The jump was pick, I was going well. A Ford, today is the

:42:41.:42:51.
:42:51.:43:00.

day. I just did it. -- I thought, I suppose I got more hits on that

:43:01.:43:06.

video in the last day than any other video I have put up. It is

:43:06.:43:11.

obviously being looked at, which is amazing. Getting this done and

:43:11.:43:17.

training properly will help me push towards the Winter Olympics. I did

:43:17.:43:21.

not think it was relisted until the last couple of weeks. I have been

:43:22.:43:28.

going well recently. That is it for this week. If you

:43:28.:43:32.

pressed the red button at the end of the show, you can watch

:43:32.:43:36.

highlights of the men's slalom from Adelboden. Also, you can keep in

:43:36.:43:45.

touch via the website, and follow us on Twitter. Next week, the
