Hello and welcome to Ski Sunday. We are in Schladming where the World

:00:55.:00:58.

Championships are about to reach their conclusion. The most I will

:00:58.:01:02.

us trious races in the world have convened for a summit meeting like

:01:02.:01:08.

no other. The leaders of speed have triumphed

:01:08.:01:17.

on the mountain. Terrific skiing from Svindal.

:01:17.:01:26.

it's the turn of the Kings of slalom to enter the fray.

:01:26.:01:31.

heroes of today will be brushing shoulders with giants. In a at this

:01:45.:01:51.

catching up with Britain's big name in skiing slope-style, James Woods.

extra, press your red button after the show. First, it's time for the

:02:05.:02:09.

big one, and the clue is in the title, it's giant slalom. Who

:02:09.:02:18.

better to talk to than Mr GS himself, Ted Ligety. I started

:02:18.:02:25.

skiing when I was two in Utah, that's where I grew up.

:02:25.:02:30.

Go, Teddy! I started racing when I was ten years old and started

:02:30.:02:36.

loving it from then on and made the mountain when I was 18. From boy to

:02:36.:02:40.

man, from man to world champion. Ted Ligety has matured into a

:02:40.:02:44.

dominant force. The American has been unstoppable this winter and he

:02:45.:02:52.

is the talk of the town. Ligety, the big favourite for the men's

:02:52.:02:57.

giant slalom. He can do damage when he gets it right. I had a chance,

:02:57.:03:01.

but I didn't think I was going to win it, no, that's definite lay

:03:01.:03:04.

surprise for me -- definitely a surprise for me. He is risking

:03:04.:03:08.

everything. I was hammering, trying as hard as I could to make as much

:03:08.:03:12.

speed. It was difficult in those kind of conditions. Ligety is

:03:12.:03:16.

getting closer. That's one of the cooler days of my career, that's

:03:16.:03:20.

for sure, especially because it's so unexpected. Good line for

:03:20.:03:26.

Ligety! And he's got it! He leads for the USA. Not content with a

:03:26.:03:30.

super-G world title he added the super-combined Crown to his

:03:30.:03:35.

collection this week. Can he add to his gold medal? That's brilliant

:03:35.:03:40.

from Ligety. He knows that was clean and he knows that was fast.

:03:40.:03:43.

Ligety has a third World Championship gold in his sights.

:03:43.:03:48.

He's known as Mr GS for good reason. Dominating the World Cup so far

:03:48.:03:56.

this winter, but there's one man standing in his way. Hirscher takes

:03:56.:03:59.

the win. Marcel and I are definitely neck-and-neck often

:04:00.:04:04.

times in GS. He's pushed me a lot in the last couple of years. He's

:04:04.:04:10.

been able to push me to a new level in GS because he's always skiing at

:04:10.:04:14.

such a high level, his consistency is strong that it pushes me to have

:04:14.:04:17.

to work harder. The biggest lesson is I have tried to learn thousand

:04:17.:04:22.

ski with no re-- how to ski with no regrets. I want to be happy with

:04:22.:04:32.

the way I approached the race. It's giant slalom time. I like the

:04:32.:04:37.

way he works it, Ted Ligety, can anyone beat him. Four wins out of

:04:37.:04:42.

five this season. Ligety is the stone cold favourite. There is one

:04:42.:04:47.

threat. It comes in the form of Marcel. I love comparing their

:04:47.:04:53.

different techniques. Ligety is rangy, very hippie and Hirscher

:04:53.:05:03.
:05:03.:05:04.

uses his knees more. Ligety's already won the super-G and we know

:05:04.:05:07.

Hirscher is the favourite in the slalom. Is this the middle ground?

:05:07.:05:15.

It is and last season Hirscher took Ligety's world title. You have to

:05:15.:05:19.

say that Ligety's again I think favourite for this. Ligety has been

:05:19.:05:23.

winning by some huge margins. Massive, massive leads on the first

:05:23.:05:27.

run. Over two seconds ahead. That's like being ten nil up in the

:05:27.:05:32.

Champions League at half-time. time to get this race under way.

:05:32.:05:36.

Giant slalom is contested over two runs. The fastest skier from the

:05:36.:05:40.

first leg will ski last in the second leg. Matt Chilton has the

:05:40.:05:50.
:05:50.:05:52.

the early hours. Ticket touts have been doing a roaring trade. Still

:05:52.:05:58.

no individual golds for Austria. Can Marcel Hirscher rescue the host

:05:58.:06:08.
:06:08.:06:09.

nation today? Svindal on his way. World champion

:06:09.:06:16.

in 2007. The championships were held in Sweden. He picked up two

:06:16.:06:20.

medals this year. He is the world champion in downhill. Took the

:06:20.:06:25.

bronze in the super-G. In recent seasons his giant slalom form

:06:25.:06:30.

hasn't been quite as good as it was three or four years ago.

:06:30.:06:36.

He has the advantage of going first. A clean track for the multitalented

:06:36.:06:41.

Norwegian. Nice turns so far. The course has

:06:41.:06:46.

been set by one of the Austrian coaches. You can bet your bottom

:06:46.:06:54.

dollar that it's been set to favour Marcel Hirscher. Svindal, a good

:06:54.:07:00.

run here. No mistakes so far. He's got good speed. Through the

:07:00.:07:03.

undergate. Now heads down to the steep final pitch. Got them a

:07:03.:07:10.

little bit wide. Lots of noise to welcome Svindal,

:07:10.:07:15.

hugely popular. Very likeable man. Here he comes.

:07:15.:07:25.
:07:25.:07:31.

Finishes the first run with a time of 1.14.44. Pretty good run.

:07:31.:07:36.

Alexis Pinturault from France. The French have had a good

:07:36.:07:39.

championships. A gold in the women's downhill. He is making a

:07:39.:07:45.

meal of this course. He's had big battles this season in giant slalom

:07:45.:07:55.
:07:55.:07:59.

with Marcel Hirscher. Pinturault is just behind but only by a fraction,

:07:59.:08:04.

off the pace of Svindal at time number one.

:08:04.:08:09.

Best chance of a gold probably comes in the final event of the

:08:09.:08:14.

World Championships, the men's slalom.

:08:14.:08:21.

500ths behind. Good work so far from Pinturault. Half-Norwegian and

:08:21.:08:28.

half-French. Still in touch.

:08:29.:08:32.

Turns are looking slightly laboured now.

:08:32.:08:36.

Top 30 will go in reverse order in the second run. He needs to be up

:08:36.:08:46.
:08:46.:08:54.

near the leaders to give himself a reigning world champion. He has

:08:54.:08:58.

already won two gold medals here in Schladming. In the modern era no

:08:58.:09:03.

man has won more gold gold medals in a single world World

:09:03.:09:08.

Championships, could Ted become the first man since 1968 to win three

:09:08.:09:12.

golds? Ted Ligety for the United States of

:09:12.:09:19.

America. On his way. The ski dimensions have

:09:19.:09:25.

changed this season. Ligety was really vocal in his opposition to

:09:25.:09:30.

any change. It only applied to the giant slalom skis. Ironically, he

:09:30.:09:36.

is the man who's adapted best to the new ski shape. He's dominated

:09:36.:09:43.

this discipline this season. Look at the time difference! After

:09:43.:09:50.

25 seconds, he's 0.68 in front. Ligety cruising here. What a

:09:50.:09:56.

championships he is having. He won the gold in the super-G and took a

:09:56.:10:04.

second title in the super-combined. He is in the process of destroying

:10:04.:10:09.

Svindal's first run time. More than a second in front.

:10:09.:10:15.

Ligety gets them sideways with a little steering pivot and power

:10:15.:10:23.

drift. Incredible skills to pull that off. Another drift.

:10:23.:10:32.

Ligety so far in a different league. Look at the time difference. 1.30

:10:32.:10:42.
:10:42.:10:44.

faster. Fritz Dopfer is next to race. He's

:10:44.:10:48.

never won a World Cup giant slalom but he's come close this season.

:10:49.:10:52.

Should he win today perhaps the Austrian crowd will claim him as

:10:52.:10:58.

their own. Fritz Dopfer of Germany. Standing tall, sliding the skis

:10:58.:11:05.

back and forwards. Now he goes. Out into the course, a very long

:11:05.:11:10.

demanding first run the Austrian coach has set. Let's see if Dopfer

:11:10.:11:16.

can do damage to leg Ligety's time? -- to Ligety's time. It's unlikely

:11:16.:11:20.

because it was fantastic from the American. He has been the 4th best

:11:20.:11:23.

giant slalom skier in the World Cup this season. He was runner-up to

:11:24.:11:33.
:11:34.:11:38.

Ligety at the last World Cup race into provisional second place.

:11:38.:11:46.

Absorbing the little changes in the terrain. It's flat-like all the way.

:11:46.:11:52.

No sunshine to give him a guiding light here. Still good enough

:11:52.:11:56.

potentially for second place behind Ted Ligety. He can't afford any

:11:56.:12:00.

mistakes coming on to this steep final pitch and he is a bit late in

:12:00.:12:05.

the line. Jamming the skis sideways. Nowhere near as good in terms of

:12:05.:12:15.
:12:15.:12:22.

anticipation of the next turn as Ligety was. 1.58 slower than Ligety.

:12:22.:12:29.

Marcel Hirscher is next. Just last week he was Alpine Personality of

:12:29.:12:32.

The Year. He helped Austria win team competition and is hot

:12:32.:12:36.

favourite for the slalom. He's played second fiddle to Ligety in

:12:36.:12:42.

GS this season. But should Ted slip up, you can bet he will be there to

:12:42.:12:48.

take advantage. Marcel Hirscher of Austria in the

:12:48.:12:53.

start gate and on his way. The course has been set with Hirscher

:12:53.:12:57.

in mind by his coach and these are fine turns at the top. Looking for

:12:57.:13:04.

the tuck wherever possible. Carving a good line. The only man apart

:13:04.:13:09.

from Ted Ligety to have won a World Cup giant slalom this season. He

:13:09.:13:18.

took the GS on 9th December. He is a little off the pace, though, as

:13:18.:13:23.

Hirscher gets low. Tries to carve in an aerodynamic position. Good

:13:23.:13:29.

speed. Jams the skis sideways. He might

:13:29.:13:39.
:13:39.:13:39.

have lost another 10th. Hirscher is now now 1.3 off the pace. Turns

:13:39.:13:42.

slightly laboured in the middle part of the course.

:13:42.:13:47.

It's going to require a second run charge for him to get in amongst

:13:47.:13:52.

the medals. He is way off the racing line.

:13:52.:13:56.

Fatigue starting to play its part now. Six turns to go.

:13:56.:14:02.

Ligety's lead is safe. It's a question of how close Hirscher can

:14:02.:14:12.
:14:12.:14:20.

Close enough for third. 1.31 seconds off the lead of Ligety.

:14:20.:14:27.

Manfred Moelgg of Italy. Third in the World Cup standings this season.

:14:27.:14:34.

He's been consistent and he could feature in the medals. He needs to

:14:34.:14:44.
:14:44.:14:47.

get this first run right. It's all about Ted Ligety. Moelgg, this is

:14:47.:14:56.

OK from the Italians. Good anticipation of the change in

:14:56.:15:01.

terrain from Moelgg. He got in trouble there! A bit of freestyle

:15:01.:15:08.

making a turn on the inside ski. Great athletism to recover but the

:15:08.:15:18.
:15:18.:15:20.

time damage has been done. More than a second adrift. He now trails

:15:20.:15:28.

by 1.27. Last few turns on the steep. Has he got the strength to

:15:28.:15:38.
:15:38.:15:52.

keep them carving? Here we go. races in this discipline generally.

:15:52.:15:59.

A comes into the world championships in position No. 8 so

:15:59.:16:03.

far this season. Had a nasty incident in training in South

:16:03.:16:12.

America last summer, when he got hit by a giant slalom gate and it

:16:12.:16:22.
:16:22.:16:28.

punctured his stomach. Some nice pace and he needs to be in a second

:16:28.:16:33.

here. Just over a second down. Looks good for a place in the top

:16:33.:16:39.

three at the end of the first room for the Italian. Italy still

:16:39.:16:49.
:16:49.:17:07.

looking for their first gold medal Simoncelli, gives himself a good

:17:07.:17:11.

chance in the next run. A on the first front turn Liberty

:17:11.:17:16.

gave a masterclass, showing how well he has adapted to the new

:17:17.:17:22.

regulation skis. The radius of these skis is much longer so they

:17:22.:17:27.

don't carve as tight a turn. He had to do some interesting moves on the

:17:27.:17:31.

final finish a steep to stay on course, pivoting his skis and

:17:31.:17:35.

hammering hard on the edges. It wasn't perhaps the quickest but it

:17:35.:17:45.
:17:45.:18:06.

kept him online. The giant slalom the second run with the top 30

:18:06.:18:14.

going in reverse order, which means turn -- Ted Ligety will be the last

:18:15.:18:24.
:18:25.:18:38.

man on the mountain. This is the bronze medallist from the garnish

:18:39.:18:48.
:18:49.:18:50.

World Championships two years ago in giant slalom. Can you hold his

:18:50.:18:59.

nerve now? He has to focus on the course and not on the red and white

:18:59.:19:06.

which awaits him round the next corner. He is nearly a full second

:19:06.:19:15.

in front. Solid Jaylene slalom skiing. On to the final pitch.

:19:15.:19:20.

Working hard. It is a nice rhythmical finish and he has still

:19:20.:19:30.
:19:30.:19:42.

got a big green light in his favour, a full second in front. A good run

:19:42.:19:52.
:19:52.:20:09.

from Schoerghofer. A nice top section from Pinturault, finishing

:20:09.:20:16.

the turn right on the gate. Nothing wrong so far and he has added to

:20:16.:20:26.

his advantage. Just over half the second in front. So this is a good

:20:26.:20:35.

in the middle section. Then he got a bit late, a big plume of snow off

:20:35.:20:39.

the edge of his skis and his lead has been reduced to just over a

:20:39.:20:44.

quarter of a second. The crowd like what they have seen. Things going

:20:44.:20:54.
:20:54.:21:00.

wrong for Pinturault, it looks like he has run out of steam. Only four

:21:00.:21:10.
:21:10.:21:11.

hundredth, which way will it go? He has got it, three tenths in front.

:21:12.:21:16.

He will have been a little disappointed with his first run but

:21:16.:21:19.

he certainly laid down a good second run here and the French have

:21:19.:21:23.

been having an amazing World Championships here in Schladming.

:21:23.:21:30.

That will be a difficult time to beat. Certainly the race is on for

:21:30.:21:40.
:21:40.:22:11.

silver and bronze. We are just nothing gained, nothing lost. This

:22:11.:22:21.
:22:21.:22:21.

is where Pinturault made his mistakes, in the middle part of the

:22:21.:22:31.
:22:31.:22:37.

course. Still in there, 17 hundredths might be starting to

:22:37.:22:47.
:22:47.:22:48.

wobble, looking vulnerable now, and it has gone red for the Italian.

:22:48.:22:58.
:22:58.:23:11.

Pinturault Fourth's lead appears to In fifth position after the first

:23:11.:23:19.

room. He looks tentative over his skis. I am not sure this is

:23:19.:23:29.
:23:29.:23:33.

aggressive enough to really push for a medal. He is already behind.

:23:33.:23:43.
:23:43.:23:49.

His advantage has been wiped out during the top 15 turns. It is not

:23:49.:23:56.

over for Dopfer but he can't afford any mistakes. This one will go down

:23:56.:24:06.

to the wire. He is looking at a bit stiff in his upper-body. I don't

:24:06.:24:16.
:24:16.:24:16.

think he can fight back from this sort of deficit. Tucking in for the

:24:16.:24:26.
:24:26.:24:27.

line, he has missed his chance. Pinturault, still in gold medal

:24:27.:24:37.
:24:37.:24:46.

position. Manfred Moelgg used a bit of knowledge and that was a lucky

:24:47.:24:53.

escape, he skidded sideways. How much damage has that dumb to his

:24:53.:25:03.
:25:03.:25:24.

time. -- Dom to his time? The flat section here, this is where the

:25:24.:25:30.

leader's run started to unravel. The crowd would love to see Manfred

:25:30.:25:34.

Moelgg get on to the podium and this is looking possible. They

:25:34.:25:44.
:25:44.:25:45.

can't split them. Dead level with Pinturault. Tucking in to take

:25:45.:25:53.

first position. He is in gold medal spot.

:25:53.:25:59.

Manfred Moelgg made a mistake on the top part of the course, and as

:25:59.:26:03.

Ligety was explaining to me before the race, if you make a mistake

:26:03.:26:09.

with these skis, because they are so stiff and long, it takes quite a

:26:09.:26:15.

few gates to get them back. Manfred Moelgg was able to pick up time

:26:15.:26:22.

near the finish but that earlier mistake could be costly.

:26:22.:26:32.
:26:32.:26:34.

Marcel Hirscher is ready to race to salvage some Austrian pride. He was

:26:34.:26:40.

third after the first run, outclassed by Ted Ligety, but he

:26:40.:26:50.
:26:50.:27:04.

through the top 20 turns and now leading by 0.79. It is approaching

:27:04.:27:09.

fever-pitch in the finish as the Austrians watch Marcel Hirscher

:27:09.:27:19.
:27:19.:27:22.

attack the bottom part of the course. He is on his way to a medal

:27:22.:27:28.

in the world championship giant slalom. House to stay on his feet.

:27:28.:27:38.
:27:38.:27:47.

He is anticipating every section of second, and they are going crazy in

:27:47.:27:57.
:27:57.:27:59.

Schladming. A huge cheer from the Austrian fans, they know they are

:28:00.:28:05.

at least guaranteed a medal here. Marcel Hirscher had a great run.

:28:05.:28:10.

I'm not sure if it will be enough to beat Ted Ligety at his best, but

:28:10.:28:20.
:28:20.:28:31.

enough to get Brahms or silver. -- bronze. Aksel Lund Svindal's

:28:31.:28:37.

advantage is just one 10th of the second. Good aggression at the top,

:28:37.:28:44.

he really means business here, hoping to add to the gold and

:28:44.:28:52.

bronze he has already pocketed at the World Championships. The

:28:52.:29:02.
:29:02.:29:05.

technical demands of the mid- part Lund Svindal. He is beginning to

:29:06.:29:15.
:29:16.:29:16.

look clumsy, and into the red now. Hence the sudden crescendo, as they

:29:16.:29:25.

can sense that Marcel Hirscher is just one step away from taking the

:29:26.:29:35.
:29:36.:29:38.

gold. He skis into third position, with just Ligety to come. At least

:29:38.:29:42.

the silver-medal form Marcel Hirscher now.

:29:42.:29:46.

Aksel Lund Svindal really lost it on the steep section. I think he

:29:46.:29:52.

would prefer the turns to be over a longer radius. He is very powerful

:29:52.:30:00.

but can't carve a tight line as some of the other skiers. He will

:30:00.:30:05.

have to wait and see, but lying in third place so far. With Ligety

:30:05.:30:14.

having such a big advantage to come, I think he will miss out on a medal.

:30:14.:30:19.

1.31 seconds is the enormous lead Ted liberty has coming into this

:30:19.:30:24.

second run as he goes for the hat- trick of gold medals. The last man

:30:24.:30:31.

to do that at a major championships did it in 1968 at the Olympic

:30:31.:30:41.
:30:41.:30:42.

Winter Games. Ligety continues to move up. Absolutely sensational

:30:42.:30:52.
:30:52.:30:59.

That's his first mistake. Might have cost him a 10th but it won't

:30:59.:31:06.

cost him the gold. 1.68 in front, despite the mistakes. Ligety looks

:31:06.:31:14.

good for gold medal number three. He will break Austrian hearts here.

:31:14.:31:21.

1.59. Fantastic from Ligety. He can afford a mistake.

:31:22.:31:27.

He will still win the World Championship giant slalom. Ligety's

:31:27.:31:36.

got it! What a run! What a magnificent performance.

:31:36.:31:40.

If I had to be a little bit picky I would say Ted backed off down the

:31:40.:31:44.

last ten gates. He knew that he had a massive lead. He skied the top

:31:44.:31:48.

part of the course really aggressively, attacking, actually

:31:48.:31:53.

picked up time on Hirscher and the last ten gates into the finish he

:31:53.:31:57.

didn't want any mistakes and came across the line to take the victory.

:31:57.:32:04.

Perfect giant slalom skiing. Ted Ligety has made history by

:32:04.:32:08.

becoming the first male skier in the modern era to win three gold

:32:08.:32:17.

medals. Hirscher came close but has to settle for silver. This week has

:32:17.:32:21.

been unbelievable. It's something that far, far exceeds my

:32:21.:32:25.

expectations, for sure. You know, it's far and away the best week of

:32:25.:32:29.

ski racing in my life, that's for sure. Huge amount of pressure

:32:29.:32:34.

wearing that current champion bib. Did that have any effect on you?

:32:34.:32:38.

Definitely felt the pressure, for sure. You know, being the defending

:32:38.:32:41.

world champion and also having won two gold medals already was

:32:41.:32:46.

definitely a lot of pressure. So, you know, I was able to follow

:32:46.:32:52.

through. The celebrations will go on at long into the night. The

:32:52.:32:55.

World Championships are nearly at an end and the partying will begin

:32:55.:33:05.
:33:05.:33:13.

very soon. Seems like it all of the championships when the

:33:13.:33:17.

superstar of women's skiing suffered a terrible leg injury in

:33:17.:33:22.

the controversial super-G event. my word Vonn is down and she hit

:33:22.:33:26.

the deck hard! She has since had surgery in the States and says

:33:26.:33:31.

she's hopeful of making it back in time for the Olympics next year.

:33:32.:33:41.
:33:42.:33:47.

Overall World Cup leader Marsi. Reiss scores into gold medal

:33:47.:33:50.

position for Germany. Then it was time for the big one, the race that

:33:50.:33:56.

would light up the championships, the men's downhill. Although the

:33:56.:34:00.

crowd will have to wait a little while longer for a home grown

:34:00.:34:04.

winner the race itself did not disappoint.

:34:04.:34:14.
:34:14.:34:18.

In challenging conditions it was nor Norwegian skiing's poster boy.

:34:18.:34:26.

In the women's race there was no shortage of drama. She's got it,

:34:26.:34:36.
:34:36.:34:37.

what a brilliant run. That became the double gold for France. Martsi

:34:37.:34:47.
:34:47.:34:55.

picked up silver. In the slalom. There's no doubting the star of

:34:55.:35:00.

2013, not since the 1960s has anyone won three world titles.

:35:00.:35:05.

Ligety makes a bit of history. Ligety is the super-G, super-

:35:05.:35:09.

combined and GS world champion. And now a member of a very exclusive

:35:09.:35:14.

club. With nine golds already decided

:35:14.:35:18.

only one remains, and if the drama lives up to the rest of the battles

:35:18.:35:22.

we witnessed on this this hill, it's going to be one to remember.

:35:22.:35:26.

Don't forget you can see that final World Championship slalom on Ski

:35:26.:35:30.

Sunday Extra. Before that, Amy Williams travelled to Switzerland

:35:30.:35:34.

to meet freestyle skier James Woods. He is currently ranked number one

:35:34.:35:39.

in the world in ski slope-style, an event that will make its Olympic

:35:39.:35:42.

debut at Sochi next year. Could he be on the verge of winning

:35:42.:35:52.
:35:52.:35:56.

Britain's first ever gold medal on not even hit the features the way

:35:56.:36:00.

they're built to be hit, innovation and creativity. That's what the

:36:00.:36:04.

sport is. It's a free sport. You can't teach

:36:04.:36:09.

someone exactly how this is done. It's like use your own natural,

:36:09.:36:19.
:36:19.:36:24.

bigger you go, the better. Execution of the tricks, whatever

:36:24.:36:28.

you are going to do, do it really well. Technical difficulty. Style.

:36:28.:36:38.
:36:38.:36:39.

Innovation. When something new happens, it's just wow! I think you

:36:39.:36:43.

have got the most amount of energy and buzz coming from you now that I

:36:43.:36:48.

can feel that you just love your sport. Yeah, for sure. It's amazing.

:36:48.:36:52.

I hope that everyone finds that thing they're passionate about. For

:36:52.:36:55.

me it's just having fun and I seem to have the most fun when I am

:36:55.:37:05.
:37:05.:37:05.

skiing. Watch this! Every time you go up

:37:06.:37:09.

and try something new, that satisfaction is just... It's inside

:37:09.:37:14.

and if you get a medal at the end, then bonus. Yeah. You got the last

:37:14.:37:18.

two World Cup medals? Yeah, there's been three World Cups, just

:37:18.:37:25.

travelling from the last one. I got the first two gold medals. The

:37:25.:37:30.

third one - I got top ten. And two gold golds. I qualified for the

:37:30.:37:33.

Olympics now. I don't want to just be a British person that qualifies

:37:33.:37:38.

for the winter Olympics and gets there and gives it a bash. Because

:37:38.:37:43.

I - you know, it's all about taking part, that is the Olympic dream but

:37:43.:37:47.

at the end of the day you want to go and give it your thing for

:37:47.:37:52.

yourself and for your country and stuff. My goal is to not qualify

:37:52.:37:56.

for the Olympics, but absolutely smash it.

:37:56.:37:59.

It's hard when people say are you going to get a medal? Everyone

:37:59.:38:03.

knows as an athlete it's the question you don't want to say in

:38:03.:38:13.
:38:13.:38:21.

your heart of course you are going ski resort, thought we would show

:38:21.:38:25.

you a little bit of what I get up to day-to-day. Now we are

:38:25.:38:31.

completely crammed. Do you find you are having to to skopb stapbt --

:38:31.:38:37.

having to battle constantly for space? I am lucky, this slope is a

:38:37.:38:41.

holiday, it's amazing. But on a day-to-day, as much as the holiday-

:38:41.:38:46.

makers are bringing it all in and it's great and keep skiing,

:38:46.:38:50.

sometimes it's like oh, man, I just want to get up there and go again

:38:50.:39:00.
:39:00.:39:05.

What's going to happen? What are you going to show us? A couple

:39:06.:39:10.

first and move on to kickers. get ready and I will come and

:39:10.:39:20.
:39:20.:39:28.

into it before you go off and do your completely crazy stuff? Well,

:39:28.:39:33.

I started on a dry slope started skiing and giving it a go. I joined

:39:33.:39:37.

a ski club because it was the easiest, I learned skiing and

:39:37.:39:39.

snowboarding together. It took a little bit to hit some rails but

:39:39.:39:43.

once I did, you know, like it's just the whole thing. You can do

:39:43.:39:46.

whatever you want. There's no regimes. As long as you keep it wb

:39:46.:39:50.

your -- within your ability and keep it safe, like know what tkoubg

:39:50.:39:56.

and know your level -- like know what you can do and know your level,

:39:56.:40:06.
:40:06.:40:17.

be the Winter Olympics season, how do you think you are going to cope

:40:17.:40:21.

with that pressure? Have you a little stra taoepblg kwreub plan?

:40:21.:40:25.

- strategic plan? There is sa lot of pressure. There's always TV

:40:25.:40:27.

cameras, a lot of great interest which is incredible, you know,

:40:28.:40:30.

because people are interested in what we are doing and we couldn't

:40:31.:40:34.

ask for more. But for the Olympics it's the pinnacle in sport. It is

:40:34.:40:37.

going to be a lot of pressure but I have always said it when people

:40:37.:40:41.

have asked me this question, there's no pressure that anyone

:40:41.:40:46.

else, even everyone in the world, my whole country can put on me,

:40:46.:40:49.

that is greater than the pressure I put on myself. I am sure that you

:40:49.:40:54.

understand that. I look at it that way and think, you know, nothing's

:40:54.:40:58.

changed since I was a tot and on the dry slope competing. Yeah,

:40:58.:41:01.

nothing actually has changed. I am just going out and skiing the best

:41:01.:41:11.
:41:11.:41:18.

he just said how small the jumps are, he's got so much more height

:41:18.:41:23.

than I would have imagined. I thought that was wicked, awesome. I

:41:23.:41:30.

am picking up the lingo - wicked! I want to know some lingo. I use

:41:30.:41:36.

stoked a lot, you know, fired up, budsing -- buzzing. Just make

:41:36.:41:46.
:41:46.:41:47.

things up, that's what I do. Put age on the end of anything, Stoke-

:41:47.:41:57.
:41:57.:41:58.

age! The bravery to do that is incredible. That was our attempt to

:41:58.:42:05.

high-five each other but we missed. It worked, take two! Got it!

:42:05.:42:11.

P. Thank you for letting me spend the day with you, it's been awe

:42:11.:42:14.

some. I have been carrying around something that I am convinced if

:42:14.:42:16.

everything goes to plan in a year's time you could be getting something

:42:16.:42:25.

similar. That's pretty cool. Actually, you know, you hold on to

:42:25.:42:30.

it. You don't want to touch? No, no, I will get my own one. I appreciate

:42:30.:42:40.
:42:40.:42:53.

it. Go and get yours. Thank you. Sochi. It's looking like our alpine

:42:53.:42:59.

hopes will rest with Dave Riding and Chemmy Alcott. You believe our

:42:59.:43:02.

success success will come from slope-style. We have seen an

:43:02.:43:05.

increase in funding the last couple of years that's helped nurture a

:43:05.:43:08.

new generation of skiers and snowboarders. At the forefront for

:43:09.:43:12.

me is James Woods. Two World Cup wins this season and pound for

:43:12.:43:15.

pound one of the best freestyle skiers in the world. Off the

:43:15.:43:21.

mountain we have two others that are the best, Shelley Rudman and

:43:21.:43:26.

Christie in short track. It's exciting times. That's it from Skeu

:43:26.:43:34.

Sunday from the World Championships but more next week when Ski Sunday
