Hello, good evening, welcome to highlights of the 2014 World Snooker

:00:31.:00:37.

Championship, another terrific's day play at the Crucible. All the big

:00:38.:00:41.

names are still here, Neil Robertson, Mark Selby and the

:00:42.:00:44.

defending Champion, Ronnie O'Sullivan looking to lift snooker's

:00:45.:00:50.

most prestigious prize. We have reached the quarter-finals. This is

:00:51.:00:52.

they line up. -- how they line up. We start tonight with Ronnie

:00:53.:01:21.

O'Sullivan v Shaun Murphy. The 2005 World Champion Murphy got off to a

:01:22.:01:26.

fantastic start taking the first two frames. Ronnie roared back taking

:01:27.:01:30.

the third. Beautiful shot. I think he can see

:01:31.:01:44.

enough of the cue ball to make this black easy.

:01:45.:01:51.

So this is a decent chance, at the start of this frame.

:01:52.:02:10.

I suppose you could argue a loose safety shot from Ronnie O'Sullivan.

:02:11.:02:24.

Yes. When Ronnie played safe he should have found the baulk cushion

:02:25.:02:35.

but maybe had it in his mind that he was aggrieved that Shaun didn't

:02:36.:02:38.

leave him anything. It's amazing how it affects your shot. It shouldn't.

:02:39.:02:43.

Ronnie would be down thinking - why am I playing safe here, I should

:02:44.:02:48.

have an easy red to pot. You can't, as I say, take your eye off the ball

:02:49.:02:51.

for a second. A chance to do some damage to the

:02:52.:03:14.

pack, with that loose red, as an insurance policy.

:03:15.:03:21.

Wonderful cueing. Yeah, couldn't have played it better. He didn't

:03:22.:03:27.

play it with as much pace as he could have done. He was concerned

:03:28.:03:34.

the cue ball might get buried in the cluster and not beyond this red.

:03:35.:03:37.

Could play the same shot again. Repeat performance.

:03:38.:03:59.

Seemed to get a bit of a funny contact there. It went in. He

:04:00.:04:03.

finished up nicely on the red. He is ideally placed now to make a

:04:04.:04:10.

frame-winning break. Playing for the pink, perhaps in the

:04:11.:04:15.

middle pocket. We'd have to think that he's going

:04:16.:04:24.

to get over the line here. I know it's early in the break,

:04:25.:04:31.

but... Well, amaze! At this level, if you

:04:32.:05:20.

miss blacks off the spot it can cost you the frame in the blink of an eye

:05:21.:05:28.

-- amacing. Every encouragement for Ronnie O'Sullivan now.

:05:29.:05:33.

But this was Shaun Murphy's Achilles heel quite a few times in his last

:05:34.:05:50.

match against Marco Fu. He got away with it with Marco. I say, get away

:05:51.:05:55.

with it, he won the match and he played well.

:05:56.:05:57.

He can't afford to be making those errors against Ronnie O'Sullivan.

:05:58.:06:27.

Considering that Shaun Murphy was on the brink of 3-0 up in this match,

:06:28.:06:39.

but for a brilliant snooker by Ronnie O'Sullivan, the tables have

:06:40.:06:40.

completely turned. It's now Ronnie O'Sullivan with a

:06:41.:06:47.

chance to force the initiative. Not guaranteed with that red on the

:06:48.:07:02.

top cushion, and black not on-the-spot. He's looking much more

:07:03.:07:15.

supposed. And getting a bit of fluency going.

:07:16.:07:20.

He won't need the black, of course, if he can get these remaining reds,

:07:21.:07:37.

with colours and a few of the other colours. But, as Steve suggested,

:07:38.:07:45.

the hurdle, it's quite a big one, is that red that is close to the top

:07:46.:07:50.

cushion. Because, with the black not being on its spot, he will have to

:07:51.:07:57.

play it with a little bit of pace. We know that playing them with pace,

:07:58.:08:01.

they are very missable. Won't leave it until last. He will try to play

:08:02.:08:04.

it as the second last red. I thought he would do, unless he

:08:05.:08:20.

got... He underscrewed that shot. He will now have to make it the last

:08:21.:08:21.

red. I'm with you, Steve, I think he

:08:22.:08:32.

underscrewed that. Sometimes you get that extension, you don't get the

:08:33.:08:36.

same feel of the cue. So this is the key shot. Needs an angle. He'd like

:08:37.:08:41.

to get very close to this red, but the pink is stopping him getting as

:08:42.:08:44.

close as he would like. It's all about this red. 15 ahead

:08:45.:08:50.

now. The more pace you play it, the more

:08:51.:09:08.

chance of missing it. Well, he could have played a shot...

:09:09.:09:14.

APPLAUSE With less pace, for the pink in the

:09:15.:09:18.

middle pocket. He wanted to guarantee good position.

:09:19.:09:29.

Shaun just trying to work out if he can win this frame.

:09:30.:09:36.

Without needing the black, and he can. He is not ideal on the blue.

:09:37.:09:44.

Ran a fraction too far. Has he an angle? That would help him. I think

:09:45.:09:54.

he has? . He has lost the white Bala bit. 10-points behind. Up to and

:09:55.:09:59.

including the pink. For the frame. You could say, one against the head.

:10:00.:10:11.

I thought mistake when he missed the black off the spot was going to cost

:10:12.:10:16.

him. He has come too far with this. He has to use the rest, because the

:10:17.:10:20.

black is in the way for his waist coat.

:10:21.:10:27.

Great pot. APPLAUSE

:10:28.:10:34.

He has twisted and turned this frame.

:10:35.:10:43.

He has not been totally in control of the cue ball during this break.

:10:44.:10:47.

He is showing great character. Well, he was up quickly, as though

:10:48.:11:03.

he got a heavy and thick contact. I think he thought, for a moment, that

:11:04.:11:09.

he missed the blue. Funnily enough, if you look at that again, super

:11:10.:11:13.

slow, the cue ball was bouncing before it got to the blue. So it

:11:14.:11:19.

only needs the pink, but he wanted something easier than this.

:11:20.:11:22.

You see the cue ball? Pink for the frame.

:11:23.:11:30.

That has cost him. That chance, will he get another? Of course, Ronnie,

:11:31.:11:42.

needs pink and the difficult black. APPLAUSE

:11:43.:12:06.

Well one of the best straight Potters in the game. There is a lot

:12:07.:12:07.

of pressure on this one. Missed it. He doesn't want to bring

:12:08.:12:18.

the black into play, and he has done. Where is this black going? Is

:12:19.:12:22.

it going to be over the middle? It is! So that missed pink, unlucky to

:12:23.:12:32.

bring the black into play. Now, surely, Ronnie has only got to pot

:12:33.:12:39.

the pink, then the black and frame and his mercy.

:12:40.:12:47.

Well, as you say, Steve, twists and turns. I didn't see this one. Shaun

:12:48.:12:54.

can consider himself a little bit unfortunate. He didn't get the best

:12:55.:12:58.

contact on the blue. This black, for the frame.

:12:59.:13:01.

Another one for Ronnie. He has stole really. Shaun Murphy, what a chance

:13:02.:13:11.

he missed there. Ronnie from being 2-0 behind is now 4-2 in front. Is

:13:12.:13:17.

The Rocket took off by grabbing frame seven with a break of 94. Then

:13:18.:13:24.

he knocked in a 136 in the final frame of the session to take a 6-2

:13:25.:13:30.

lead overnight. They resume at 10.00am in the morning.

:13:31.:13:35.

There was a real heavyweight clash on the other table, Judd Trump

:13:36.:13:41.

taking on Neil Robertson, the world number one looking to make a century

:13:42.:13:46.

of centuries this season. Judd took a 3-1 lead. That changed to 5-2. We

:13:47.:13:48.

pick it up in frame eight. COMMENTATOR: Caught that one a

:13:49.:14:00.

little thin. Now this is a Neil Robertson

:14:01.:14:20.

special. He is normally very good for these shots, coming back for a

:14:21.:14:29.

blue or a baulk colour. Wow! I like to see the speed that red went into

:14:30.:14:35.

the pocket. Amazing. Now he's coughing again, look, I don't think

:14:36.:14:39.

he is right. Tremendous shot that was. Got to ask the obvious question

:14:40.:14:44.

- would he have potted that redded if he'd lost the previous frame?

:14:45.:14:51.

Certainly wouldn't have been as can dividend as he was getting down

:14:52.:14:53.

having pinched the previous frame. 33 break to pinch the frame at the

:14:54.:15:04.

previous visit has given him his is of dense back. As John mentioned, he

:15:05.:15:11.

will do cartwheels if he wins this game and gets out of this session

:15:12.:15:18.

5-3. This has been a session for Judd Trump all day long the way the

:15:19.:15:22.

match has gone. He is still behind though. If you win two sessions you

:15:23.:15:30.

go 5-3, 10-6 going into the last session. A big lead. That is when

:15:31.:15:33.

you have to earn your money, Terry, as a coach. When your player thinks

:15:34.:15:47.

he should be further in front. He would have took 5-3 at the start.

:15:48.:15:52.

There a few things happening out there. Neil Robertson doesn't also

:15:53.:15:54.

expect them. He brought the reds into play. The

:15:55.:16:11.

cue ball is far enough off the cushion to put some sort of stun and

:16:12.:16:15.

deviate the cue ball for the next red.

:16:16.:16:33.

We don't really know if Neil Robertson is not feeling well here,

:16:34.:16:43.

but the truth of it, as the Championship is you play every day.

:16:44.:16:47.

You haven't really got any chance to recover. He has had two shots then,

:16:48.:16:54.

and didn't really get the contact he wanted, the spin.

:16:55.:16:57.

The previous one, the red to blue, he expected to be top side of the

:16:58.:17:04.

blue. That one he hit purposefully a little bit harder to make sure he

:17:05.:17:07.

got round the two cushions, to get onto these reds. If he gets nicely

:17:08.:17:12.

on the black now you'd expect him to score heavily.

:17:13.:17:18.

We have time to show you the red. It's an angle, there is no problem.

:17:19.:17:25.

You do expect to get this nine out of ten. You see there, he has left

:17:26.:17:29.

it short. This is a little bit short as well. May have to play a little

:17:30.:17:31.

cannon to slow the cue ball down. If he's not hampered, he should

:17:32.:17:41.

still be OK. There is a red available into the middle to get

:17:42.:17:42.

onto the black or the pink. Judd Trump sees the shot very early,

:17:43.:17:58.

doesn't he. He is down there and very quick. He must be a difficult

:17:59.:18:07.

opponent to play against. Very destructive, can pot them from

:18:08.:18:12.

anywhere. He went through a spell this season when we have seen

:18:13.:18:21.

flashes of his brilliance. There has been no consistency this season. We

:18:22.:18:25.

know what a fabulous talent he is, to do it at the biggest stage, that

:18:26.:18:30.

is what it's all about. That is what everybody strives for to do it here

:18:31.:18:34.

at Sheffield. Maybe he is saving saving his best for the next week

:18:35.:18:36.

that is remaining. Not too bad, but just taken the cue

:18:37.:19:29.

ball slightly out of position. Just about hold for these reds, dead

:19:30.:19:49.

weight with the black. Another contribution of above 50.

:19:50.:20:01.

A glance at the score board, tells him he is 42 in front. Two more reds

:20:02.:20:10.

and colours to be absolutely certain. He doesn't really want to

:20:11.:20:14.

play for the one behind the black. There he would rather play for the

:20:15.:20:19.

one on the cushion. The one down the cushion is easier than the one along

:20:20.:20:21.

the back cushion. The one he will play is the one

:20:22.:20:30.

along the back cushion. One more red after this one. He will go 6-2

:20:31.:20:40.

overnight. If that was any harder that would not have gone in. That

:20:41.:20:47.

was high. Just look at this red. It went right in-off the far jaw.

:20:48.:20:58.

Didn't risk going into them. I thought he would. He played it to to

:20:59.:21:06.

the inch. This is inch-perfect as JD would say.

:21:07.:21:32.

That's the important red. Pot the black as well. The end of session.

:21:33.:21:44.

Still went for the big split on the last three reds though. He likes to

:21:45.:21:50.

entertain, Judd Trump. Just checked the score. 65 in front with just 51

:21:51.:21:53.

left. Neil Robertson obviously resigned to

:21:54.:22:18.

the fact now he will be 6-2 behind. He has it to do now, hasn't he? He

:22:19.:22:22.

was one of the favourites for this tournament. Have to win the next

:22:23.:22:24.

session to get back into the match. But this is really nice to see Judd

:22:25.:22:30.

Trump playing like we know he can. Yes, he has certainly been the most

:22:31.:22:40.

impressive out of the two today. I'm sure we were all thinking at the

:22:41.:23:01.

start of this match it would be a cracker, go all the way, it may

:23:02.:23:05.

still do. Nobody expected a 6-2 result for either player.

:23:06.:23:18.

APPLAUSE They all like 100 here, a few

:23:19.:23:24.

exhibition shots here now. Those in the front row better watch

:23:25.:23:28.

out! Not quite! It's been a wonderful

:23:29.:24:03.

potting and break building examiner countries here for -- examiner

:24:04.:24:07.

countries here for Judd Trump. Now to the man who lost to Ronnie

:24:08.:24:12.

O'Sullivan in last year's final, Hawk High he is taking on Dominic

:24:13.:24:16.

Dale. Hawk High led 6-2 at the end of the first session. Stretch that

:24:17.:24:23.

to 9-4 this season. We pick it up in frame 14. Dale to play -- Hawkin.

:24:24.:24:39.

COMMENTATOR: He hit it well. A nudge on the green. It makes this green

:24:40.:24:48.

cuttable. Nice anning toll play for the red, just above the black. --

:24:49.:25:07.

angle to play for the red, just above the black. A cut to the left

:25:08.:25:11.

corner. That is not the red he was playing for.

:25:12.:25:24.

As you said, that is the red he'd love to be on, the one just above

:25:25.:25:29.

the black. He has the perfect angle to play on

:25:30.:25:31.

it. Just needs to slow down a bit. That

:25:32.:25:43.

looks perfect. He stunned that in. He has left

:25:44.:26:32.

himself straight, that is very careless. Well, he shouldn't have

:26:33.:26:38.

left himself this straight. That is so careless. He wanted that cue ball

:26:39.:26:43.

to run another half inch, so he had the anning toll stun up for the red

:26:44.:26:45.

into the opposite corner. -- angle to. The problem is with

:26:46.:27:10.

this, you try to pinch a bit to force the cue ball, the black is

:27:11.:27:12.

missable, believe it or not. Just managed to get something out of

:27:13.:27:17.

it. Not recovered the situation fully

:27:18.:27:25.

yet though. Well, he stunned into those reds. I

:27:26.:27:45.

thought he'd have screwed into them and then the cue ball would come off

:27:46.:27:50.

them. Getting the bounce and power, you don't know where the cue ball

:27:51.:27:55.

will finish. A little trickle up behind the black. That is all that

:27:56.:27:56.

is left to him. Delicate this. That is the problem with Dominic not

:27:57.:29:01.

snookering on the reds. Not getting up tight enough on the black. You

:29:02.:29:03.

have to hit the right red. It's OK. Dominic doing the referee's

:29:04.:29:26.

job there. It's not touching. They are all having a look!

:29:27.:29:34.

And if it had been touching, of course, the referee gets to do the

:29:35.:29:42.

final. I'm sure he's looking forward to that. So, not touching.

:29:43.:30:28.

Well, he's thinking long and hard here, Dominic. Is there an

:30:29.:30:38.

alternative to the safety? Don't think so. There is no pot on. I

:30:39.:30:47.

think the only safety is to try to get this cue ball back to this top

:30:48.:30:50.

cushion. That's what he was bothered about. A

:30:51.:31:20.

red going into a portable position, and he's left one to the left middle

:31:21.:31:24.

and the reds are spread far and wide. The only problem with this

:31:25.:31:30.

shot for Barry is he's not certain whether cue ball's going to go. And

:31:31.:31:36.

if he misses the kiss on the yellow importing it he should be on

:31:37.:31:43.

something. -- on potting. He's found the perfect line. What a chance this

:31:44.:31:55.

is! Dominic's slightly unlucky to leave the red. That was always a

:31:56.:32:00.

danger but the real unlucky part was it left Barry with a natural angle.

:32:01.:32:04.

He didn't have to do anything with the cue ball there. As you say, what

:32:05.:32:07.

a chance. I suppose the only positive thing to

:32:08.:32:29.

come from missing an easy black in the last frame is it sharpened his

:32:30.:32:33.

concentration up for this visit. Determined not to let that happen

:32:34.:32:34.

again. This blue will put him two points in

:32:35.:33:33.

front. So if he can get these five

:33:34.:33:47.

remaining reds with colours, he would be past the winning line. But

:33:48.:33:49.

a bit of work to do. Didn't get into the cue ball as much

:33:50.:34:19.

as he would have liked. Still should get this red. But it's missable.

:34:20.:35:00.

Quick glance at the school board will tell him he's 16 points in

:35:01.:35:08.

front, so, as I said, he needs these three remaining reds with colours to

:35:09.:35:10.

clinch the frame. -- scoreboard. Decided to come up for the blue and

:35:11.:36:03.

he's played it nicely. He can't just drop behind this red because it

:36:04.:36:07.

doesn't go to the middle because the pink's in the way. Possibility of

:36:08.:36:18.

putting it in the left corner. So just got to judge the pace of this

:36:19.:36:20.

shot correctly. And it doesn't come much better than

:36:21.:36:43.

that. Terrific shot. In fact, with a 27 point lead now, just this red

:36:44.:36:48.

will get Tim to the snooker is required to stage. -- will get him.

:36:49.:36:52.

Right in the heart of the pocket. Taken full advantage. Dominic will

:36:53.:37:12.

consider himself a little unlucky that he left that red and the

:37:13.:37:18.

perfect angle to put it and get him out of baulk. Certainly been an air

:37:19.:37:27.

of inevitability about this visit. Having said that, it was in the last

:37:28.:37:31.

frame when he missed the black off the spot. But not missing this time

:37:32.:37:36.

around. Well played, Barry Hawkins! So,

:37:37.:38:25.

stops Dominic's comeback in its tracks, and he will be pleased to

:38:26.:38:31.

get that one under his belt. Now leads by six again. 10-4. And they

:38:32.:38:37.

shared the last two friends of the session, so world number four Barry

:38:38.:38:47.

Hawkins, last year's semifinalist, needs just two more friends.

:38:48.:38:50.

Looks like Dominic Dale is going out. -- frames. The last match was

:38:51.:39:03.

Mark Selby versus Alan McManus. Mark Selby took an 8-4 lead after it was

:39:04.:39:06.

4-3. Selby is in the balls. DENNIS TAYLOR: What a shot he has

:39:07.:40:16.

pulled off there. You can't get a ball better than this. The cannon on

:40:17.:40:20.

the green was a bonus but he deserved it after that shot. Super

:40:21.:40:25.

shot, wasn't it? Queued it absolutely beautifully. -- cued it.

:40:26.:40:36.

In a couple of shots' time he had lost to remove that read to the

:40:37.:40:39.

right of the black. -- that red. Got into the cue ball a bit too much

:40:40.:41:01.

there. He's still OK. Would have loved to have been a bit straighter

:41:02.:41:04.

on the blue. Can still play a little cannon if he

:41:05.:41:11.

wants from the blue. An excellent shot as well. Brilliant

:41:12.:41:35.

shot. So much reaction after the cue ball, Dennis. Yeah, we've seen a

:41:36.:41:45.

couple of shots there whether cueing was extremely good. Here's another

:41:46.:41:52.

one. The pause and then he delivers the cue and it is effortless. Just

:41:53.:41:57.

that word you mentioned there - careless. Not easy to get onto it.

:41:58.:42:01.

He's having to clear reds away before getting onto that. He's going

:42:02.:42:10.

to head -- have to head up for the blue again. And then in two or three

:42:11.:42:21.

shots time, he may have that read available to him, but as long as he

:42:22.:42:27.

keeps potting reds and blues, he's in fine shape. -- that red

:42:28.:42:30.

available. He didn't want to cannon that red

:42:31.:42:40.

that time. That's a slight error. He's still got a red available to

:42:41.:42:44.

him in the left corner but not as intended there. Wanted to slip past

:42:45.:42:48.

that one. I wonder where he's going here.

:42:49.:43:03.

Tight in behind the pink. Now, there is an escape route for

:43:04.:43:23.

Alan McManus here. He's got the angle to try to land on a red and he

:43:24.:43:28.

has got an escape route. A couple of escape routes. But there is one he

:43:29.:43:34.

might try. He's looking at the left side of the table but there's an

:43:35.:43:37.

escape route down the right-hand side. Coming into the side he is

:43:38.:43:43.

looking at there, if he catches the red, he might not leave a pot on. So

:43:44.:43:53.

he's going to hit how many cushions? Four.

:43:54.:44:02.

He is misjudged it and he's going to stick the red up. Yeah, tried to

:44:03.:44:12.

come down the other side of those reds. Not straightforward here for

:44:13.:44:20.

Mark. He does have a pot on but might be running into the red just

:44:21.:44:26.

below the one he's potting. I think you can get on the blue, you know.

:44:27.:44:36.

If he gets some top spin on it. Just click off the side of that red and

:44:37.:44:40.

possibly run around for the blue. -- flick off.

:44:41.:45:19.

Well, not too bad. Actually a straight blue into the yellow pocket

:45:20.:45:26.

to screw back He may have a little angle.

:45:27.:45:48.

Absolutely perfect. Maybe you could have done with just another

:45:49.:45:53.

fraction. He will come off the caution and flick it away. --

:45:54.:46:03.

caution. He did not want to risk it, did he? I do not blame him. He

:46:04.:46:10.

can win the frame with just reds and blues. APPLAUSE. 12.

:46:11.:46:33.

This natural finish tomorrow morning -- this match will finish tomorrow

:46:34.:47:00.

morning. McManus knows only too well this

:47:01.:47:20.

frame has slipped away and his comeback has been stopped. 25.

:47:21.:47:44.

This has been five reds, blues. It has been a very well controlled

:47:45.:47:57.

break. That is why he did not take the risk earlier. That was good

:47:58.:48:04.

thinking. But of course he is way past the point where McManus would

:48:05.:48:11.

even contemplate coming back to the table. Alan Cissokho manner stays in

:48:12.:48:23.

the seat. He has had enough in this frame -- Alan McManus. Mark Selby

:48:24.:48:33.

went on to win the next three frames. That is all from us for this

:48:34.:48:43.

evening. We are back in the morning at 10am. Shaun Murphy taking on the

:48:44.:48:53.

defending champion, Ronnie O'Sullivan. Good night.

:48:54.:49:24.

Ted, I... I'm not interested in coming to see Lady Gaga, sir.
