Day 11 Snooker: World Championship Highlights

at least. I am just going to get on with it. Normally I am watching the

quarterfinals back in the house. I have to play the shots. Who knows? I

am in the quarterfinal of the world championship and hopefully I can

play better. To go on here qualify and win two matches is unbelievable.

Good evening. Welcome to highlights of Day 11 of the 2016 bet Fred World

Snooker Championship. One of those players will be lifting snooker's

biggest prize on Monday. Mark Williams has won it twice. He plays

China's Ding Junhui. Ding got off to a cracking start in the evening

session. We join it in frame 12. Williams to play. No score.

He has found the gap. Now, what has he left? He has looked at the cut.

He has got this along the top cushion. It is tricky but the pink

is available to the right middle, which may tempt him to go for it. If

he comes around, he has got a straight red to the far left corner,

which he has not even love that. -- looked at.

He has knocked that in like it was a pool table. I know. How many times

do we see that shot missed? He is just absolutely fluid. That is very

accurate. Creeping up to 91%. Mark Williams is

down to 80%. Ding Junhui has parted 80 balls in

this session. Mark Williams has potted two. His pot success is 25%

against 95%. I do not think he will be winning too many matches with

those statistics. He cannot get going. That is not down to Mark's

bad play. Let's be honest. He has been played off the table by

somebody in top form. Absolutely. There is nothing you can do when you

are setting your seat. Ding Junhui has played excellent safety. He

should have had two centuries. He has had one. He is just relentless

at the moment when he is getting among the balls. You cannot pot

balls when you are in your seat looking on. He just had to play that

dead weight to drop it in, so he could land on this red next to the

pink. He did well there. Not ideal with

this though. I do not think he has got much of an angle. He found a

nice path. If any thing, he just needed to travel and in Shaw two

further. He is playing it quick, so there must be a red available. Yes,

third one down. It looks like he is straight on it, which is as good as

perfect. He can stun this aim. -- in. Does not look like missing. Cue

ball exemplary, full of confidence. It is a wonderful game when you are

playing well, when you are in total control of everything you are doing.

The cue action, the balls, the way you hit them. Everything seems so

easy. To be fair it must be a wonderful feeling for Ding Junhui.

Snooker is required. He has gone through a rougher time. -- rough

time. We have all gone through rough times in the game. It is nice to see

him back to playing at his absolute best. He has taken a few rounds, to

be honest. He had a real fight against Martin Gould in the first

round when he trailed 8-6. He got his game together. Reeled off four

in a row. Screwed back onto the black. Martin Gould is a good

player. He won in Germany this year. When the draw came out, he was not

too enamoured with it. Nobody wanted Ding Junhui from the qualifiers. It

was a match that could have gone either way. In the next round he

played Judd Trump. Neither played their best. There was a lot of

mistakes. Because there was a lot at stake. Maybe winning those matches,

here in the Crucible, which has been a bogey venue, he has come out in

this match and after the early exchanges, this evening this is the

Ding of old. Superb standard he is setting. If you had told me that

Ronnie O'Sullivan, Trump, Murphy and Bingham would not be in the

quarterfinal, I would've thought you mad. I was only working out this

morning, of the last eight, only five of them were in the top 16.

Seeded here. There have been some big shocks. And I don't think there

is any doubt about it, with Ronnie going out last night, everybody will

think they have got a chance. That brings its own pressure. You cannot

get ahead of yourself. He was the favourite for a reason. You have to

forget about that. We have all done it, looked at the draw and thought,

that is handy. Yes, meanwhile a wry smile from Ding Junhui. He did not

screw back far enough for this pink. This pink will put him 66 points in

front with 67 remaining. He is looking for the pink and one more

red. Right in the heart of the pocket once again. If he can get his

hand on the table and find that gap between yellow and brown... It is

all happening. The things that happen when you play well. Look at

it, it is perfect for the hand. Just this red to get to the snookers

required stage. In it goes. 67 points the lead. 65 remaining. He

has started this evening with a four frame advantage. It looks now

certain to be an eight frame advantage. Just three frames away

from a place in the semifinal. It is looking pretty grim for the twice

world champion, Mark Williams. Just concentrated on the pot. He

knows if he pots that, no return for Mark Williams. Now he will be

concentrating on getting his second century. Well, so close. Mark

Williams sitting in his seat. There is an interval now, boys. Marcus

conceded. Have I got it wrong? I think there should be an interval

now. The referee is setting them up. Four frames and you have a break,

guys. OK? Williams has only potted two balls

in the first four frames of the evening session. He did win the next

only four are doing to come back and win the next two. -- he did win the

next one and only for Ding to come back and win the next two, leaving

him one frame away from the semifinal.

Two reds in the middle of the pink and black. Could be made into a

plant. The problem is the path back to the baulk macro area. -- baulk

macro. Just having a look at coming down.

He could play the old dump shop, and down, and dump the ball on the top.

That is what he has decided on playing. He has to be careful.

In the end he decided to go for the pot. And he got it. Decided he could

not guarantee the safety, so went all out for the pot and missed

chance for frame and match. He is getting a few funny contacts. That

was another one. Yes. Of course, after these quarterfinals, as we

watch this jump again, they go down to two-table. Normally they keep it

a secret which table they put in the middle. If they do not pick the

right one here, there is something wrong!

Put it this way, I would like to have a bet. Yes, we will sneak in on

Thursday night, Wednesday night, tomorrow night, and see who's table

they moved to the middle. This black will put him 11 points

behind. He is going to need these four remaining reds, and possibly

the green, evenly brown. Depending on the colours he takes.

A touch short of pace. That is the thing, or when the cue

ball is coming straight to the cushion it seems to bounce. When you

try to run around two-cushions it is very rare you get bounce. He could

have played that better. He should have gone into the cue ball little

bit more than that. The cue ball going up for the blue now, probably.

You would think one good positional shot here... Yes. This is the shot

which could decide whether we have a session tomorrow. He could not have

played it better. That is a shot he has played. He has hit that to

perfection. Yes, I feel for mark this evening, and this morning. I

did not know about the new tip on till I was informed this morning.

That is the reason he did not make the most of his opportunities. But

knowing Mark, he will not be disheartened. He is a laid-back kind

of guy. Getting to the quarterfinal of the world championship he has

shown everybody he can still play. He played really well in his first

couple of matches. A thousand balls potted, that was. He needs the

green, the yellow and the brown. He is laughing to himself. He has hit

that terrible. Well, apologies. What a jump on yellow that was. It is

maybe the way he struck the cue ball. It is unbelievable how many

bad contacts we seem to slip sea. -- to see. The green and brown for a

place in the semifinal. The green is there. He is on the brown to the

middle. This brown to go 25 points in front with 18 remaining. To win

with a session to spare. It is in! Ding Junhui, everybody said when he

was having to qualify, he was the man you wanted to avoid. He has won

his three qualifying matches. He has had a tremendous run. Beat Judd

Trump in the last round. And now beating the two time world champion,

Mark Williams, with a session to spare. We may have a new favourite

for the tournament. Ding Junhui gets a warm handshake from Mark Williams.

I feel for mark. That tip problem through the match. But Ding is in

good form and he is definitely a major contender. He is into the

semifinal. He wins by a wide margin. 13-3.

The first session was 2-2. He got some bad kicks. I was lucky to have

another chance. I just took every chance I could make breaks. This

time it is different. I think I have got more confidence. I play well.

And I have got a day off! What a story it would be if Ding Junhui

could lift the world title. He will play the winner of the quarterfinal

between Alan McManus and John Higgins.

John Higgins takes the opening frame. Very good pot.

Tremendous break from Alan McManus. He has played it well. Very good.

He is hitting the ball so good. Leading John Higgins by 3-1.

That is a lovely shot. John Higgins is back level again. This is good

stuff. He has won three on the trot. He leads 4-3.

That has turned out well. He has fluked that.

Wow! Another fluke. Things going John's way at the

moment. John Higgins will be delighted, 5-3 in front in this

session. And that match resumes in the

morning. We are calling that the all Scotland Derby. One of the matches

of the tournament so far involved Barry Hawkins and Ronnie O'Sullivan,

a repeat of the Crucible final in 2013. Hawkins winning it in dramatic

fashion. But did it have an affect on his quarterfinal match today

against Marco Fu? All eyes will be on Barry Hawkins to

see how he plays this afternoon after that unbelievable win against

Ronnie O'Sullivan. That was a beauty. He leads by 1-0.

Good pot, that. It is not good to watch when this is happening. This

is tough. Well played.

It is now, believe it or not, 5-0. Barry Hawkins has got to get a

couple of frame's from somewhere. And a big smile from Barry Hawkins.

At last he has got a frame on the board.

That is a bit more like it. That is a brilliant pot. What a shot

that was. Barry Hawkins in all sorts of trouble.

Marco Fu takes a 6-1 lead. It is a beauty. It really is. And what a

start for Marco Fu. I bet he can't believe it.

7-1. We look forward to the second session of that match, which begins

tomorrow. The winner of that quarterfinal will take on either

Mark Selby, the 2014 champion, burqa and Wilson, the qualifier who has

seen off Joe Perry and Mark Allen. We join it with the score at 8-5.

As Stephen just said, if he can get a 10-6 lead overnight, that is just

about as good as you can yet this evening.

-- get. Nice angle on the blue to the far

right corner. He can play for the loose red to the

same pocket. After that I would be looking for an angle on the black.

That was a poor shot. He will have to go for the blue now. He can play

with lots of top spin to follow through the bunch.

But that is too risky. Nice angle on the blue. If he is

going to go into the bunch, he must hit this blue full in the face.

That was perfectly hit. He has put the pink and black save. Very

unfortunate. That is the ideal way of playing that shot. Keep the cue

ball in the middle of the table. Very unlucky to put pink and black

out commission. He needs to get one of them back

onto the spot quickly. He is unlikely to win the frame by potting

blue. He would like to have that one back.

To land short of the blue from such a perfect angle is careless.

What a great strike. Incredible top spin.

Watch the cue ball accelerate. Again, short on the blue. Two reds

either side of the group of four. He can play them through yellow and

brown. But like I said, it is so hard to win a frame off just blue

and baulk colour. He risked playing to get the pink

out that time and the white is going in quite dead off the screw shot.

But he has got the pink in play, if he can pot the blue and get back

onto a red he can easily get back onto the pink.

This has been a very, very good break, considering the pink and

black were out of commission until just then. Just red and colour

needed. I would even go as far as to say

this is the first time in the whole match we have seen the Kyren Wilson

of the first two routs. Aggressive striking of the cue ball, Power

Snooker. Kyren Wilson's highest break of the

match so far, and just at the right time.

Kyren has already had three centuries in this tournament so far.

This is a chance for his fourth. Another fabulous break. It really

has been top drawer. Well, no century, but Kyren Wilson

worked very, very hard for that break. Some exceptional shots with

top spin. We will show you those shortly. It is 9-5. My apologies,

it's 8-6! STUDIO

Keep up, Willie! Selby won the next, and we join it in the final frame of

the session with the score at 6-6. Well, he would love to have an angle

on the blue to play the red near the black spot. If he can get on that

more or less straight, he can play the black to the right corner.

Yes, if you're ever going to go on to win this World Championship,

you're going to have a bad session. The thing is with a bad session, if

you make the best of it, that is what Mark Selby has done so far...

Kyren Wilson will be kicking himself to have not won this session at

least 6-2. Yes, I don't think there's another player in the game

that could play this badly and possibly come out of it for- four.

It's to his credit, Mark Selby. Obviously helped by his opponent,

who hasn't punished him. But to come out at 4-4 when at times he has

looked totally gone... Normally mark would be playing the

power stunt into the three reds, but he's not perfect. -- Mark. He's

looking at that case is on the middle read full ball, pushing that

red out of the way and hopefully remaining on the red nearest the

pocket. If he gets the double-kiss, he will be nowhere. He has got to

find that gap, hasn't he? If he's got the right angle, this

red is still pottable. If he were straight on this, it would be

impossible. But because he's got an angle, it can go.

This is such a massive frame for both these players. Mark Selby is

leading by 41, 48 after the black. Three more reds needed.

GROANS FROM CROWD REFEREE: Foul, 54 Mark Selby, four

Kyren Wilson. Well, it's amazing that he's gone

in- off, there. Kyren Wilson still in this frame, 50 points behind, but

with the four reds being saved, it would be a huge task for him to get

back into this frame. Well, a lot of excitable people went

crazy about that red, but he's now 49 behind with 51 on. He didn't want

it to go in! Well, he's missed the cannon but

he's still perfect on this red, as good as he could have wished for.

When it's going to cost you the frame, there's pressure on this...

Well, good shot. There was pressure on that.

It looks like he's got a decent angle on this lack to take this red

off the vision. I don't know if it's an -- a natural, but it's close. It

wasn't a natural, he had to stun it. So all of a sudden...

Will that proved to be a frame- winning fluke?

He can't really afford to play for a baulk colour, so he wants a high

value colour from this red. Not the best angle.

Essential to have got top side of the blue. He's going to be forced

into playing the pink now. Playing ball, he has to be careful to miss

the kiss on the black. The claim ball he should get nicely on this

red, as long as he puts the pink, that is. Again, normal situation

this is an easy shot, but the pressure on every pot for Kyren

Wilson now is immense. What a shot he's played there! One

of the shots of the night, this one. You see the action he got with the

cue ball off the cushion. Oh! What a time to get a kick like

that. Could you clean the white, please?

And the red as well? Yes. This was an horrendous kick. The White nearly

jumped over the top of the red. That is unlucky. I suppose he started the

break with a fluke, but it shouldn't end with something like that. Mark

Selby needs to pot the red to go 10-6 ahead overnight. It is starting

to become a feature of this championship, Willie. Bounces and

kicks. This is not straightforward by any stretch of the imagination.

Well, it's curled, it's curled! Bent. That was right in the middle

of the pocket. That was right in the middle of the pocket and just bent.

Just keep an eye on this red as he plays it.

Just look at that. Right in the middle of the pocket there and then

all of a sudden it starts to pull in. I still fought he'd got it.

REFEREE: Touching ball. Well, I'm lucky. Absolutely touching the blue.

Especially as he needs a colour. He's going to try and pot the

yellow, that's all he can do really. He still needs a snooker. That was

incredible. Probably favourite to go off the blue and try and get the

yellow in behind the black. What would you play here? 31 points

behind. The thing is, with a four point snooker, you can only tie.

Well, credit to Kyren Wilson. Potting -- credit to Kyren Wilson

for still potting the yellow. Just looking at where he wants to

leave the cue ball to get it tight in behind that brown, send the green

up the table. That was pretty good. He was putting the green towards the

right middle pocket. He's just going to hit the green before the middle

and stun the cue ball in behind the brown.

Not bad. But barring snookers, Mark Selby will take a 10-6 overnight

lead. STUDIO
