Then I might take more time off. The word genius gets thrown around a lot

but I worked very hard at the game. I had great role models like Stephen

Hendry and Steve Davis. I set my boundaries high. I just play in a

way that looks like it comes easy but it does not come easy. When

people say you are the most talented, you think, they do not

know what they are talking about. Personally, I think, the media

greatest player to have played the game is Stephen Hendry. I think I

have done well to win four world titles. I could have won more but I

have not. I am happy with four. I am not prepared to be the king of my

sport. I have been there and done that. Unless I am prepared to give

it 100%, then I am right, maybe I have except that it is the end of my

career and I am just hanging around like Steve Davis does. He turned up

for tournaments and if he plays well, great. It filled a gap in his

life. That is how it will be for me. The way the game has opened up it

allows me to do that. I will not play in enough events to compete

probably but that is not my ambition any more. I was ready last year. I

played a lot of snooker and I had a point to prove. I had some lean

years for personal problems. To win here was the absolute icing on the

cake. I proved to myself and the doubters out there to never doubt

me. The more you go into the competition, the tougher it gets.

How I get on against a player who has been playing regularly will be

the true test. It will probably show up more when I play somebody like

Ali Carter who is a very good player. He is one of the top eight

players. That will be a real test. You would not be human if you did

not have adrenaline running through your body but it is how you are

managing it. I have learned to manage it better that you still feel

pressure. You have to. I am here to compete. I have always been a

competitor and I like to win but I have to be realistic about my

chances. I have one a match which was great and I am in the second

round. Where it goes from here, you do not know.

Always fascinating to hear his thoughts. That was recorded last

night. He is still focused at becoming the oldest world champion

since Ray Wealden. And the world number one Mark Selby is up against

Barry Hawkins, the reigning Australian Open champion in a very,

very tight match. Selby has been putting other players on the spot

for the last 18 months. He has won the Masters and the UK title. It is

time we put Mr Selby on the spot for Sometimes I think it can be. Other

times, in the last few years, I have made 50 centuries this year and 50

the year before. I can mix it both ways. Barry seems to think that

snooker needs a change and the only way you can make it fair is to put

everyone in the first round. I disagree with that. Every time I get

asked to do something to promote the game, I am the first one to put my

hand up. I am not sure it is a part-time job.

It is very, very difficult. If you're not winning matches, you are

not earning cash. It is definitely a job.

I never ever moan about travelling. I enjoy what we do. We are fortunate

to see the countries we go to and during something we love doing and

getting paid for it. I do not know why my head sways. I

can feel myself doing it. It has not affected me over the years and I

still win matches. It is not too much to worry about.

I would like to win the World Championship. I get out there every

year trying to win it. If I do, I do, if I don't, I don't. I am not

too nice. I do not believe that for I used to live on a council estate

and a few of my friends used to go making my first century and missing

my first century as well. I miss cute, I think. I was trying to deep

screw in for the yellow but I miscued. I definitely remember that.

So many memories over the years. Once you get to a certain level, you

have to keep getting better and better. Winning is more enjoyable.

The buzz of being introduced into a full arena is really nice but it

does not get any easier. When you are winning big matches, that is

when the buzz kicks in. I have played in front of packed houses.

That is a great buzz. You do not get the same buzz when you play as a

junior. Then you are playing because you love it. I like playing the

matches, winning and playing in front of a packed house.
