Good afternoon. It is that time of year already. It has come round so | :00:35. | :00:40.
quickly. The World Snooker Championship. You join us as we are | :00:41. | :00:45.
getting ready for our second live session of the day. We have been on | :00:46. | :00:50.
a since Tony M with Ronnie O'Sullivan's opening session. He is | :00:51. | :01:02.
against the world number 122. We are focusing on two Englishman, an | :01:03. | :01:09.
Irishman and a Scotsman. How is it down in the corridor? It is very | :01:10. | :01:15.
tense. The players are already to go. They have had their 15 or 20 | :01:16. | :01:20.
minutes and it is time to go out. Good afternoon, ladies and | :01:21. | :01:38.
gentlemen. What a tremendous atmosphere we have at the Crucible, | :01:39. | :01:42.
the opening day of the Championship continues in earnest. Four of the | :01:43. | :01:50.
very best in the business. Slicker's Bonaly to the season -- | :01:51. | :02:02.
finale. Back into the top 20 after a good season, he enjoyed a fine run | :02:03. | :02:10.
to the quarters two years ago, Ryan Day. | :02:11. | :02:30.
His opponent, a player who has twice graced the semis at the Crucible, | :02:31. | :02:38.
winner of five ranking titles, the pride of Glasgow, when he is good | :02:39. | :02:52.
years on fire, Stephen Maguire. -- he is on fire. On table number one, | :02:53. | :03:07.
a player making his first appearance here for three years, former regular | :03:08. | :03:14.
in the world top 16, now on his way back up the world rankings, beating | :03:15. | :03:19.
Mark King to be here, he is the shot gun from Stoke, Jamie Cope. His | :03:20. | :03:41.
opponent, a class act, he won his first ranking event title in three | :03:42. | :03:44.
years last month, beating Mark Selby. He has changed his diet and | :03:45. | :03:51.
lifestyle and is reinvigorated as a result. He is the magician, Shaun | :03:52. | :04:20.
Murphy. Both tables available live, red button and online options. We | :04:21. | :04:25.
are going to stick with Jamie Cope and Shaun Murphy. Jamie Cope showing | :04:26. | :04:37.
real character to keep going. We have Stephen Hendry and Dennis | :04:38. | :04:46.
Taylor in the commentary box. Good afternoon to everyone watching. | :04:47. | :04:54.
It is great to CJ Mickel back at the Crucible. -- see Jamie Cope. He lost | :04:55. | :05:05.
his way a little bit. Fabulous talent. A tremendous potter when he | :05:06. | :05:21.
gets going. Shaun Murphy has turned his game | :05:22. | :05:39.
around. That was a bad misjudgement. It looks as if this | :05:40. | :05:50.
red might pot into the left corner. It is a bit close. You have to be | :05:51. | :05:57.
careful you do not push this. It was awkward, and he has left it | :05:58. | :06:15.
up for Shaun Murphy. That seemed to kick that. It looked as if he was | :06:16. | :06:31.
going to pot it. This table is playing beautifully, it is very | :06:32. | :06:39.
fast. It always takes awhile to get used to the speed the table. -- | :06:40. | :06:50.
speed off the table. Pretty good safety shot. Just a | :06:51. | :07:14.
little bit sticky notes. A little bit awkward at the moment | :07:15. | :07:37.
with the black in the bunch, but that will soon change as they play | :07:38. | :07:47.
safety shots. The black is now in play, and the pink. We might see a | :07:48. | :07:59.
Shaun Murphy special. He likes to take this type of shot on. | :08:00. | :08:12.
He can strike them much better than that. Very close. He may be able to | :08:13. | :08:29.
follow through for the pink. You mentioned about his | :08:30. | :08:50.
break-building , he has lost count of the number of maximums he has | :08:51. | :08:56.
made in practice and he has made the magical 155 in practice. He had a | :08:57. | :09:09.
free ball and ineffective puts an extra red and black on the table. | :09:10. | :09:49.
That has spoilt him taking the red to the left corner. The simple red. | :09:50. | :10:02.
He might be able to drop it in and finish on the black. He is going to | :10:03. | :10:11.
try to cut this one back into the right corner. That was a very thin | :10:12. | :10:26.
shot. He has left that red that he attempted. Just a bit too thick. Not | :10:27. | :10:36.
much margin for getting onto the black, but the pink Magor -- pink | :10:37. | :10:48.
perhaps. That is unlucky. Very unlucky. He can get the green and I | :10:49. | :10:59.
think he can bridge to the side of the pink. He might be able to pot | :11:00. | :11:04.
the green and get up past the blue. He looks to be cueing extremely | :11:05. | :11:30.
well. He is very relaxed. It does not matter how experienced you are. | :11:31. | :11:34.
The first frame you are always a little bit tight. He looks really | :11:35. | :11:38.
composed at the minute. It is 2005 when Shaun Murphy won his | :11:39. | :11:54.
World Championship year. It certainly does not seem that long | :11:55. | :12:05.
ago. Against Matthew Stevens, it was an unbelievable victory, Matthew was | :12:06. | :12:07.
odds-on favourite to win. The cushions look as if they are | :12:08. | :12:29.
reacting very quickly so far. Almost twice as fast coming off as when it | :12:30. | :12:32.
goes on, that makes it quite tricky. That was a terrific long pot. The | :12:33. | :13:08.
pink is going to be tight. What a chance for Jamie Cope. He has the | :13:09. | :13:20.
reds open. The black is not on its sport, but that is not causing a | :13:21. | :13:22.
problem. -- spot. Not the best. I think he is still | :13:23. | :14:05.
OK. That is not where he wanted the cue ball. It means he will have to | :14:06. | :14:12.
head up for the blue or the black again. Trying to hold it for the | :14:13. | :14:24.
blue. He is perfect, he is the right angle, although it did get contact. | :14:25. | :15:00.
This is exactly the opportunity that you are praying for in the first | :15:01. | :15:14.
frame. Just keep your concentration. Not a lot to do with the cue ball. | :15:15. | :16:25.
We will show you the shot that created this chance. He did not have | :16:26. | :16:33.
played that any better. He will settle down if he can clinch | :16:34. | :16:55.
the frame on this visit. Even someone like him who has been a | :16:56. | :17:01.
winner several times, the first couple of frames you are always a | :17:02. | :17:02.
little bit nervous. Not the start Shaun Murphy was | :17:03. | :17:33.
looking for. It is the best of 19, so a long way to go. | :17:34. | :17:51.
He certainly wobbled that one. The frame is well and truly over. | :17:52. | :19:08.
Can he convert this red along the cushion and give himself the chance | :19:09. | :19:29.
of a century? The chance is there. What a great way to start the World | :19:30. | :19:38.
Championship. That is a shame. We are not going to get a century | :19:39. | :19:42.
break, but he will not be too disappointed. He takes the opening | :19:43. | :19:44.
frame. He will be feeling good. He has had a rotten time over the | :19:45. | :19:59.
past four years. He was suffering from a really debilitating | :20:00. | :20:07.
situation. He could not release the cue, he had a nervous disposition, | :20:08. | :20:14.
he was having a torrid time. I said to him, by the looks of it you need | :20:15. | :20:18.
somebody more qualified than me, somebody with medical help. It was | :20:19. | :20:27.
serious. He was close to packing in. He was physically shaking over the | :20:28. | :20:34.
shot. He could not release the cue. A really difficult thing to come | :20:35. | :20:40.
back from. Having no knowledge of that, it is hard to talk about it, | :20:41. | :20:47.
other than that when it happens to players they do not recover. That is | :20:48. | :20:55.
the end of it. That is from people I remember playing snooker and in | :20:56. | :20:59.
other sports. To come here and qualify and turn up against a top | :21:00. | :21:03.
class player and win in style the first frame is proof of the progress | :21:04. | :21:09.
he has made. It is tough for anybody to come out and get off to a good | :21:10. | :21:15.
start. We jobs about ten not getting off to a good start, Jamie Cope has | :21:16. | :21:23.
done seemingly be impossible. I think both players will have been | :21:24. | :21:34.
reasonably happy with this draw. Shaun Murphy likes people to play | :21:35. | :21:35.
attacking snooker. That happened to Patsy Fagan, who | :21:36. | :21:54.
did not recover from it. It was when he was using the rest it started | :21:55. | :22:01.
with. He could not let old of the cue. He had to give up in the end. | :22:02. | :22:29.
It looks as if he is playing a safety, in fact he was trying to pot | :22:30. | :22:34.
it. It is amazing what you can see from | :22:35. | :22:54.
the commentary box. I have never seen anyone address the ball that | :22:55. | :23:01.
much of line. You would think that cannot be an effective way to | :23:02. | :23:06.
consistently play well but he is very naturally talented, so he gets | :23:07. | :23:07.
away with it. If they play a few more shots like | :23:08. | :23:37.
this, it might start the frame again. Touching ball would have | :23:38. | :24:01.
helped. It will never catch on. Can I give you a couple of shots each? | :24:02. | :24:08.
That is the right thing to do because it is a little bit of a | :24:09. | :24:20.
stalemate. He can get that on the table this time. He has purposely | :24:21. | :24:31.
left that escape route. He has played a bit of a careless shot. | :24:32. | :24:57.
He has a tough shot to avoid the red closest to the corner. That is | :24:58. | :25:07.
pretty good. I am just wondering if there is one | :25:08. | :25:40.
red he can pot into the left corner and miss the black. I think he is | :25:41. | :25:46.
having a look to see if he has the angle to do that. He is looking at | :25:47. | :25:52.
the poor thing angle and will be more concerned about the cue ball. | :25:53. | :25:55.
He will have to be a bit careful. Cueing up with so much right hand | :25:56. | :26:10.
side, and when he delivers, he brings it back on line. I suppose | :26:11. | :26:18.
you could compare that to a golf swing. | :26:19. | :26:28.
It is all about getting those balls into the hole. | :26:29. | :26:46.
That is the secret. It does not matter how you do it. | :26:47. | :27:05.
Looking to see which one of these reds has an angle. Not a bad | :27:06. | :27:13.
opportunity. The first day, brand-new cloth, so | :27:14. | :27:38.
they tend to go more than in a few days. | :27:39. | :27:52.
This is a great chance. He has them sitting nicely. The red next to the | :27:53. | :28:08.
black is a little bit of a distraction, but the black will | :28:09. | :28:20.
still pot. He could not quite reached that. He is over six feet | :28:21. | :28:28.
tall. Having to boot the extension on to give him a little more | :28:29. | :28:30.
leveraged. He is doing well, but everything is | :28:31. | :29:49.
finishing a little awkward. That was the one I thought he would | :29:50. | :30:26.
get but these pockets are quite tight. If you cut it near jaw, they | :30:27. | :30:31.
will not go in. Look at the shape of the reds, like | :30:32. | :30:56.
a little question mark. That is the question. What is the | :30:57. | :31:12.
answer? The shot was on, but he chose to | :31:13. | :32:02.
play a more conservative shot. When you have not won your first frame, | :32:03. | :32:05.
you tend to take the more conservative approach. They are just | :32:06. | :32:15.
in between friends on the other table. They were telling the | :32:16. | :32:18.
occupants to be quiet. That is how close they are. -- they are between | :32:19. | :32:25.
frames on the other table. It is like two different theatres, the | :32:26. | :32:30.
Crucible, when you get to semifinal stage. There is one table that is | :32:31. | :32:38.
absolutely amazing. People are so close to the action. | :32:39. | :33:48.
Nice angle on the blue to do what he wants. | :33:49. | :34:24.
He just needs a cannon on the red to the left. That would be OK. | :34:25. | :34:36.
I would not have played the cannon onto that one. Might be OK, though. | :34:37. | :34:42.
Almost put himself out of position. Good recovery. He had a couple of | :34:43. | :35:01.
choices here. Maybe he just misjudged that and planned to hit | :35:02. | :35:03.
the one to the right. Now, you would expect it to be frame | :35:04. | :35:22.
over. Very important for Shaun to clinch | :35:23. | :35:42.
the frame with this visit. He is not wasting any time, playing | :35:43. | :36:37.
at a nice pace, which usually means the player is high on confidence. | :36:38. | :36:54.
Shaun has made 38 centuries this season. | :36:55. | :37:09.
Always great to watch. Such a good cue action. | :37:10. | :38:21.
Can Shaun make the century? There is an indication of the cue power he | :38:22. | :39:15.
And perfectly on the black as well. What a match. Jamie Cope, 75 in the | :39:16. | :39:39.
opening frame. Shaun Murphy, a century. It is looking good. | :39:40. | :40:13.
Well, day one is unfolding nice hair, and social media plays a big | :40:14. | :40:19.
part in that. You can contact us via the usual outlets. Memorise them | :40:20. | :40:28.
before they are gone. There are a huge high-profile tweeters here. | :40:29. | :40:42.
Mark King lost to Jamie Cope, who is in action, so he knows how well | :40:43. | :40:48.
Jamie Cope is playing. I don't think retirement is due yet, Mark King. | :40:49. | :41:09.
It is a fantastic arena, and we are joined by two players who have had | :41:10. | :41:14.
marvellous moments here, as even Hendry and Dennis Taylor, who were | :41:15. | :41:17.
talking us through the action. Dennis Taylor, the 1985 world | :41:18. | :41:22.
champion. Talk us through those last moments of that fantastic match, | :41:23. | :41:24.
Dennis. Thank you, Steve. I am lost for | :41:25. | :41:35.
words. Don't be shy, Dennis. You know you want to. Well, it all | :41:36. | :41:42.
started... Bit of an awkward frame already, with the red up to the left | :41:43. | :41:46.
of the blue. Shaun could have played that with a | :41:47. | :43:01.
touch of stunt to make it more difficult. | :43:02. | :43:11.
I have got no more to say about these shots, Dennis. | :43:12. | :43:42.
A bit more pace would have been better. | :43:43. | :44:18.
A good pot, but it was a free shot for him. | :44:19. | :44:24.
Ooh. He may have got away with it. He took his eye off the black bear. | :44:25. | :44:37.
-- there. He will be disappointed, missing | :44:38. | :44:45.
that lack. -- black. I don't think he thought he had hit | :44:46. | :45:28.
it hard enough. Shows how fast the table is. | :45:29. | :45:59.
He is trying to get into the bunch here. | :46:00. | :46:20.
There is a possible pot up into the right corner. But there is no value | :46:21. | :46:26.
in it. Shaun was trying to go somewhere | :46:27. | :46:56.
along that line. This third frame has gone a bit | :46:57. | :49:19.
awkward, with the pink and black up the other end of the table. | :49:20. | 3:22:01
Jamie would normally take this read on the left corner. He is a very | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
attacking player. If the black was on its spot, he | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
would try and have a go at it. But it is awkward, with the colours of | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the other end of the table. Jamie was shaking his head when he | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
played that. Has that run far enough to prevent | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Shaun taking this red to the left of the blue? Does the red pot into the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
corner? Well, that has opened the bunch up. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
This is going to finish awkward. Sometimes, that is as good as a | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
snooker. That was a great shot. The contact | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
on the red was really well played. It is not a straightforward return | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
here. If he takes the one nearest the blue, it would be a very thin | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
contact. Sometimes in this sort of situation, you use another red as a | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
stopper and screw it straight back into the ball-carrier. -- bolt area. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Well, what a result he has had there. He has left himself on the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
black. He did not take advantage of his bit | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
of good fortune. Strange shot. He was a long way short of where he | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
wanted the cue ball. As he hit it a bit too hard? Maybe | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Shaun can get to the edge of this red. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
It is pretty annoying when that happens, you know you should have | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
had the play and you come back to the table and he has you exactly | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
where you should have had him. It is incredible how often that happens. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
The simplest of shots, you do not pay enough attention and you lose | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the advantage completely. If he is straight on this red to the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
left-centre, he can go onto the black. The one nearest the black he | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
can get up for the blue. Well played. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
That is a shocker. That is the first really bad shot he has played so | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
far. It should have been no problem getting on the red to the right | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
corner. About five minutes ago, all the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
reds were sitting in a perfect position. They are starting to get | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
tied up. Two quick frames. This one has been | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
rather awkward. It has been going just over 22.5 minutes. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
This type of frame does not suit either player. They both like to get | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
on with it. This could take a while to get a winner in this third frame. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
The long frames are the ones you want to win. From a psychological | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
point of view. It helps to win an awkward long frame. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
If this red is straight he can take it into the left middle and get | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
himself on the black. Even if it is not straight, he still might be able | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
to have a go at it. That was a chance. It has flicked | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the other reds. The white is close. It is OK. He can | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
drop the blue M. He has had a couple of chances already. He played a poor | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
black into the right corner pocket and did not get on a red. It is not | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
an easy chance by any means. Could have done with being a little | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
bit further to the right with the cue ball. He will not play it with | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
too much pace. He might play the cannon on the two | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
reds. He looked to have the angle to play | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the shot you suggested. He definitely did not try that. You | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
would think if he missed the cannon he would have a chance of the others | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
to the left of centre. It was worth the risk. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
He cannot just come off a cushion and land onto those two reds. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
That was not careful. He could not see a shot. Sometimes you come to | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the table and there is no shot available to you. I am not sure what | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
he intended there. Surely not. He has finished tied on | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the red. He cannot see the black. Amazing. You could try that shot | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
another ten times and you would not finish in that position. A little | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
nudge on the red. A little bit short. Very unlucky. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Is there a path through for the red? Plenty of room. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
What was that shot? That has confused him. I think that has | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
confused everybody. I think he was trying for topspin and just hit it | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
too fool. It has come off two cushions and it has gone straighter | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
than planned. With these scrappy games, sometimes | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
you take your eye off the ball. When you have a long tactical battle, you | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
do lose your rhythm. You need a good chance. To get things back to | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
normal. We know they are both cueing very well. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Already over 30 minutes. There's not a lot the can do. -- players can do. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
He is not going to be on a colour, but he can play the snooker. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Another fraction and he would have been nicely on the green. He is | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
looking at the green. He took the positive shot. That was | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
very attacking. It was the right shot. Unfortunately for Jamie, he | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
missed it. He has presented Shaun with the opportunity. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
It is all about getting a good angle on the black in a couple of shots. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
That looked pretty close to being a plant. I do not think he will play | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
for that, but it might be close. The pockets are allowing the balls | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
to go in with a little bit of wriggle. He might play for the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
plant. Could have finished better. Played it well enough. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
It will still cut in, but he does not like it. He is looking to the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
one to the middle again. A little bit unlucky with that cannon. He | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
could have finished nicely. It just ran or word for him. -- awkward. He | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
played it perfectly. He got the gap between the reds. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
That made be worth Jamie having a go at this red. Why not? The white is | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
going to be whizzing up and down the table. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
It all depends how he drops on this paper. He might be on it in such a | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
wiki can move that last red. If not he can take the pink and leave a | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
double on the red. I think the fact he was using the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
rest made that shot a lot more difficult. If it was the other side | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
of the table he would definitely have played the cannon. They are | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
going in a little bit easier than perhaps they well in a couple of | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
days. The cloth is brand-new. That is a great shot. You mentioned | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
about Shaun Murphy being the best, this shot that Jamie has pulled off | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
was right up there. This is key that he gets up onto the green. He has to | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
stun NASA little bit which makes it a bit more difficult. -- stun this a | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
little bit. He may have to use the rest. I do | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
not know if he can reach this. He played one terrific shot with the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
rest. He is looking to see if he can reach it with the extension. He | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
needs the green to leave Shaun needing snookers. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
He made sure of the green. The brown will make absolutely sure, but this | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
is far from easy. Good cueing. It was important to get | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the brown in. It was a scrappy frame, a lot of | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
tactical play, the balls went very awkward, but in the end Jamie Cope | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
will be delighted. That gets Jamie Cope into the lead. They could not | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
do much about that, the balls were very awkward and scrappy. They | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
battled through for nearly 40 minutes, just over 40 minutes, and | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
in the end those are great frames to win from a psychological point of | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
view. It knocks you out of your rhythm. Both players won the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
previous two frames in one visit. Both players played some careless | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
shots in that frame, but the safety play was excellent. This was the one | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
for me. That was a gem, down the cushion, they do not get any better | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
than that. I think he has his cloth. He might want to get one of | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the people to their it for him -- damp it. I used to use the bottle of | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
water provided to do that. The only problem is, you get a puddle on your | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
seat. It is good stuff. One more frame before the mid-session | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
interval. Wouldn't it be something of Jamie Cope could take a 3-1 lead? | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Lots of noise from the other side of the arena. People will be going out | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
for a coffee. The noise never used to put me off, | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
but what did put me off was the brush on the table on the other | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
side, you can hear the swipes. It is one of these things that makes | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the Crucible so special. That long shot was pretty special. Strikes | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
these as well as anybody in the game. -- he strikes. A couple of | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
reds he can play on here. He could come off two cushions and | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
go into the bunch if he felt like it. He did not want to catch the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
loose red. That red took all the pace off the cue ball. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Very unfortunate to finish in that position. Now we are left with a | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
very awkward situation. There is a safety zone down the left side of | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the table. A little bit of a stalemate again. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
This could be one of the situations where the referee might give the two | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
boys a couple of shots each. Touching ball always helps. It is | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
awkward to play the safety with the red being in baulk. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Jamie has beat Shaun on a couple of occasions, 5-0 at one point and 6-3 | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
at another. He would like to take that one again. Of the head tells | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
you what he thinks of that. -- this shake. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
When he pots this red, it frees the red for the right-hand corner. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Cannot go into the bunch just yet because of the position of those two | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
reds. There is always a few options | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
available to the player. He does not Billy wants to catch | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
that pool ball, about three quarters would do it. That is not bad. The | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
white has run up the table. One more good pot needed and I think a great | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
chance to take this fourth frame. He timed that beautifully. Getting | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the cue ball to sit in behind the black. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
It is one of the nicest shots in the game, the stun shot, it is so | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
difficult to play. You cannot really teach someone. It is all about | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
feel. I think he has got one to the right | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
middle. With the ball sitting like this, it | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
looks odds-on to be two each. I think Jamie Cope will be feeling | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
pretty good. If Shaun does make another century, | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
that will be two century breaks, and he will be all square with Shaun | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Murphy. Jamie is having a quick look at the score, but he has conceded, | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
and we go to the mid-session interval with a very high standard | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
of care here. We are all square. HAZEL IRVINE: it has been very | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
watchable. We had a 40 minute frame in the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
third, but overall, you were bang on. It has the makings of a very | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
close match. Yes. The two players like to get on with it. Boast both | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
of them like to score heavily. Because of health concerns over the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
last years, we have not seen much of Jamie Cope, | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
last years, we have not seen much of emerged, we saw him when he was | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
last years, we have not seen much of or 22 at the Grand Prix final in | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Aberdeen. And this guy really is a magnificent potter when he gets in | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the groove. Yes, he was fearlessly going about his work. It was a bit | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
sad to see him losing the edge and losing his confidence and getting | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
down on himself. Great to see him back at the Crucible. All of a | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
sudden, he is not going to turn over Shaun Murphy at the moment, but he | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
is causing problems for him. We know about Jamie's potting ability and we | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
know about Shaun's hallmarks with the rest. But there was a shot you | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
saw earlier when Jamie used the rest. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
We are going to show you that. If you go over that of the table, I | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
will explain. So, a bit of analysis for you. Jamie Cope with the rest. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
There was the situation he ended up in. As a snooker player, you live | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
and die by the percentages. You are thinking, is it worth taking on? | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Yes. In potting it, can he win the frame? That is the first risk. Also, | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
if you missed the shot, will it go safe. And what percentage chance is | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
it 's let's run this and see what he did. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
That was a beautiful shot. It was a really high tariff of a shot. So | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
much so, that we are going to ask you to do this. Me? I am in a | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
vulnerable situation at the moment. Why? We are going to give you five | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
goes at this shot down the cushion. I will give it my best. If you do | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
two out of this, you are doing very well indeed. I will try one. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Unlucky. I was pleased with that as a shot. This is how difficult these | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
tables are, down the cushion. Draw again. This is a bit damp. I think | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
they have been watering the plants! The same place all the time. I am | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
not happy. Try number four. Brilliant job. A readjustment is the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
way forward. One out of five, a 20% chance. Steve | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Davis, you should try and get on the professional tour. You are not bad. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
I will think about it. Thank you very much for the demonstration. It | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
went exceedingly well . It rather exceeded our expectations. We are | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
going to concentrate on the match on the other side of the arena this | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
afternoon. It features Stephen Maguire, who has been burning to get | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
back to the Crucible after losing in the opening round to the guy who | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
charmed us own -- charmed us all, Dechawat Poomjaeng. He had all kinds | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
of clown antics that we loved. But it was not so funny for Maguire, and | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
of clown antics that we loved. But he has come back with a bit of | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
of clown antics that we loved. But problem. He has had back problems | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
over the last three months. He has not won a significant | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
over the last three months. He has last three major events. So | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
over the last three months. He has see how he gets on now against Ryan | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Day, three-time quarterfinalist. Before we do, a quick look at | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Maguire's career timeline. I was born in Glasgow on the 13th of | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
March, 19 81. In 1999, I won the amateur championship. Males are | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
turned professional in 1999. I won my first ranking title in Malta in | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
2004. And I won the UK championship in the same year. In 2013, I won my | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
fifth ranking title at the Welsh open. I have made two competitive | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
147 maximum breaks. I have reached two World Championship semifinals. I | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
am marriage to Sharon and I have three children, Finn, faith and | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Farah. Ryan Day looks to have the most | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
perfect cue action. But when he comes under pressure, he is prone to | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
miss queueing. If you look at the matches he has | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
miss queueing. If you look at the years, when he comes really | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
miss queueing. If you look at the pressure, he gets a bit tight at the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
miss queueing. If you look at the back and jams up the ball. We have | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
seen him miscue and jump over the black. With his cue action, he has | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
got to be a bit looser black. With his cue action, he has | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
pressure is on. I sometimes get black. With his cue action, he has | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
feeling that he is not completely in control of the cue power he has got. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
He wants to screw back a couple of inches, and he will screw it back | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
six inches. He has such a great technique. He can play every shot | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
there is on the table. I just wonder sometimes, there is that | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
inconsistency of striking that makes him run out of position. To think | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
that he has been in three finals and still has not won a rank new event, | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
there is something lacking there. He has got all the ability in the world | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
and he has time on his side. Is he consistent enough? Not really. He | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
has matches where he goes into his shell and does not go on the attack. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
But at his best, his break building is up there with the best. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Sometimes, he does not feel as though he gives it 100 ascent. I | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
have seen him play matches where you though he gives it 100 ascent. I | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
would fancy him beating anyone in the world. And yet in other matches, | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
would fancy him beating anyone in he is liable to lose to anyone. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Until he puts that right and focuses his mind, he will always be in and | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
out of the top echelon of the game. So, it is worth against Scotland. We | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
are going to join them in the first frame of a possible 19. Terry | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Griffith and Willie Thorne are in the hot service. -- hot seats. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Ryan Day breaking off. They will both be nervous. Stephen Maguire has | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
been struggling over the last few tournaments with a very bad back. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Allegedly, it is feeling better now. This is looking to be an open game, | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Terry. They are both attacking players. Stephen Maguire has just | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
found out that the table is running very quickly. Yes, they both like to | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
go for their shots. They opened the reds out pretty early. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
He has always been an aggressive break builder. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
They go for the throat and try and win the frame in one visit. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Michaela Tabb is a very good referee. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Neck and back problems come with this profession, I'm afraid. But | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
he's telling me now he is fully fit again. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
What a shot. Shot of the tournament so far, Terry. And we are very early | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
in the tournament, of course. That was another very aggressive | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
shot. Surely the pink is not available in | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the middle. He is holding his hand up to say it is. That is amazing. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
You could see his facial expression change when he thought he had lost | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
vision, and then he smiled and apologised to his opponent for being | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
on the pink in the middle. Stephen Maguire spent most of his | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
early playing career to sing with Stephen Hendry -- practising with | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Stephen Hendry. He learned from the top man. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Stephen Hendry was looking for one opportunity all the time, of course. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
This is good stuff from Stephen Maguire, just the start he was | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
looking for. Taking your practice form onto the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
match table. The Black will put the frame beyond | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
any reasonable doubt. Then he can concentrate on making another | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Crucible century. Another great break from Stephen | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Maguire. HAZEL IRVINE: in the second frame, | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
it was Ryan Day, a former top ten player, who matched him and indeed | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
bettered him. He made it one - one. Maguire took the next go to one up. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
And we are heading into the last frame for before the interval. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Can he popped that green? Looks like it. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
Not the best positional shot, because he needs the other red. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
How good is he at that? He hit that so good, I can't argue. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
I don't know how he managed to get that angle to come inside the red. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
But this is a tricky one. He tried to play it as a shock to | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
nothing. -- shot to nothing. He did not want that kiss on the | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
green. You would expect Ryan to make that | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
shot eight or nine times out of ten in normal circumstances. | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
We have had some high-quality break building. Time for the mid-session | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
interval. It is two frames each. HAZEL IRVINE: and the Welshman took | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
the next after the interval as well for a 3-2 lead. We will have to look | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
lively here, because we are heading for another channel change. We are | 3:22:02 | 3:22:01
