Hello. A very good evening to you. Welcome back to the Crucible Theatre

:00:34.:00:39.

in Sheffield. All four quarter-finals of the 2017 Betfred

:00:40.:00:42.

world snooker hundredship are well under way and tonight, it's act two

:00:43.:00:48.

of the major unfolding drama between Ding Junhui and Ronnie O'Sullivan.

:00:49.:00:55.

Ronnie O'Sullivan who gets this enthralling encounter under way. I

:00:56.:00:59.

think it was so important for Ding Junhui to get off to a good start

:01:00.:01:04.

against Ronnie O'Sullivan. And he's certainly doing that. Seven

:01:05.:01:15.

centuries now for Ding Junhui. Leads Ronnie O'Sullivan. Well, what a

:01:16.:01:19.

response. He's bounced right back and won three in a row. We are all

:01:20.:01:30.

square at 3-3. Terrific stuff. Ronnie will be more pleased than

:01:31.:01:35.

Ding, they come out of the session 4-4. The five-time world champion

:01:36.:01:41.

recovering from 3-0 down to share the morning's eight frames. Reigning

:01:42.:01:48.

champion Mark Selby has a 6-2 lead over Hong Kong's Marco Fu. John

:01:49.:01:55.

Higgins leads Kyren Wilson 5-3 and another Englishman leads Scotland's

:01:56.:02:00.

Stephen Maguire 5-3. You can really feel the tension this evening in the

:02:01.:02:04.

Crucible. Steve Davis, good evening to you. Ding Junhui got off to a

:02:05.:02:09.

great start and he'll be kicking himself to allow Ronnie back in?

:02:10.:02:12.

Possibly but the job has been done in establishing himself in the match

:02:13.:02:16.

and it's 4-4 with all to play for. Looking at the previous matches,

:02:17.:02:21.

both have things that count. Ronnie was very impressive against Sean

:02:22.:02:26.

Murphy and I think Ding Junhui to actually turn around that match

:02:27.:02:31.

against Liang Wenbo showed great character so it's all to play for.

:02:32.:02:36.

Ronnie's got the upper hand against Ding Junhui and how much of an

:02:37.:02:39.

impact will the past record have, given the fact that Ronnie has

:02:40.:02:44.

absolutely thumped Ding Junhui in major showpiece events? It obviously

:02:45.:02:48.

plays in his mooned but if Ding Junhui were to win this match

:02:49.:02:51.

perhaps it would be the catalyst to him going on to win the World

:02:52.:02:54.

Championship. You could argue this is the biggest match of his career

:02:55.:02:58.

in pursuit of that. It's hard to explain to viewers at home or

:02:59.:03:01.

wherever they are watching, what it's like in the Crucible when

:03:02.:03:05.

Ronnie O'Sullivan walks out here. The fans love it, they get right

:03:06.:03:09.

behind him. How difficult will it be for Ding Junhui to tackle that?

:03:10.:03:16.

Possibly it's a problem but I think Ding Junhui has warmed to the

:03:17.:03:19.

Crucible crowd and I think the people of Sheffield have warmed to

:03:20.:03:23.

him so I think he's got more support and is more comfortable in his own

:03:24.:03:26.

skin here and it won't be all one-way traffic in that department.

:03:27.:03:30.

We are all excited here. In the commentary box, it's Denis Taylor

:03:31.:03:34.

and Ken Docherty. Ken, how excited are you tonight? Very excited. Denis

:03:35.:03:39.

and I are in the commentary box, you can feel the atmosphere and the

:03:40.:03:44.

tension and anticipation from the crowd and Denis, you commentated on

:03:45.:03:48.

the frames today, how fantastic? I was with Stephen Hendry, it was

:03:49.:03:55.

fantastic, Ding got off to an absolute flyer, got the 128 as well.

:03:56.:04:00.

The seventh frame was a huge frame. Ronnie came back to 3-3 and he was

:04:01.:04:05.

42 in front or 43 in front. Ding could only tie. Somehow he tied the

:04:06.:04:09.

frame and won a respoted black and I suppose Ronnie will be delighted to

:04:10.:04:14.

be 4-4 but Ronnie could have won the five frames after going 3-0 down?

:04:15.:04:18.

After being 3-0 down, I was watching it myself this morning, I was

:04:19.:04:22.

fearing for Ronnie because Ding looked in crop pleat control? --

:04:23.:04:27.

complete control. He missed a sitter of a red, if he hadn't have missed

:04:28.:04:31.

that, I think he would have led 4-0 and it could have been a whole

:04:32.:04:35.

different scoreline. What about tonight for Ding? At the start it's

:04:36.:04:38.

got to be very important? He's got to get off to a good start. The fact

:04:39.:04:44.

that it's 4-4, this is going to be a fabulous session of snooker, it

:04:45.:04:47.

really is. Listen, the crowd are really up for it and even us

:04:48.:04:50.

commentators are really up for it as well, we can't wait.

:04:51.:04:54.

Thank you very much indeed. Just when you look at the tension on

:04:55.:04:59.

those faces, I wonder what is going through these players' minds knowing

:05:00.:05:03.

that this is, as you said, for Ding Junhui, a massive session? It is,

:05:04.:05:07.

and from my perspective, I know what it's like to be out there, you just

:05:08.:05:10.

can't wait to get going. The longer we are talking, the longer they are

:05:11.:05:15.

going to be waiting! John Higgins has been here before,

:05:16.:05:19.

he know Haas it's all about. We are very excited here at the Crucible.

:05:20.:05:23.

Let's say a very good evening to Rob Walker.

:05:24.:05:26.

Thanks Jason, good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to the climax

:05:27.:05:30.

of day 11 at the Betfred World Snooker Championship with the

:05:31.:05:34.

resumption of the two brilliantly poised quarter-finals, we are in for

:05:35.:05:38.

an atmospheric end to Tuesday night here at the Sport's spiritual home,

:05:39.:05:41.

the Crucible. APPLAUSE.

:05:42.:06:07.

Please welcome a young player in his second successive Crucible

:06:08.:06:13.

quarter-final, finalist in India, he won the Shanghai in 2015, he's now

:06:14.:06:17.

firmly established amongst the game's elite and he'll be seriously

:06:18.:06:24.

fired up for tonight, because he is the Warrior, Kyren Wilson!

:06:25.:06:33.

And his opponent, winner of 28 ranking titles in all, without doubt

:06:34.:06:50.

one of the finest sportsmen Scotland's ever produced. Contesting

:06:51.:06:55.

this, his 12th Crucible quarter-final, after an excellent

:06:56.:06:58.

win over Mark Allen in round two, four times a champion of the world,

:06:59.:07:04.

the wizard of Wishaw, he's John Higgins!

:07:05.:07:10.

MUSIC On table one, please welcome a

:07:11.:07:23.

player who first made the quarters here 22 years ago, two decades later

:07:24.:07:27.

he's still going strong. He showed all his experience to come back from

:07:28.:07:33.

3-0 down to level the scores. Reigning Masters champion,

:07:34.:07:35.

five-times the champion of the world, blink and you will miss him,

:07:36.:07:44.

he's the Rocket, Ronnie O'Sullivan! MUSIC

:07:45.:07:56.

And finally his opponent, a player who started brilliantly this

:07:57.:08:03.

morning, two breaks over 70, a 128 and that respoted black. Runner-up

:08:04.:08:07.

last year, reigning Shanghai Masters champion and winner of 20 12 big

:08:08.:08:11.

ones in all, a national hero back home in China, so enter the Dragon,

:08:12.:08:13.

Ding Junhui! Willie Thorne and Stephen Hendry

:08:14.:08:39.

will talk you through John Higgins vKyren Wilson on the red button live

:08:40.:08:46.

here on BBC Two though Denis Taylor and Ken Doherty for Ding Junhui and

:08:47.:08:52.

Ronnie O'Sullivan. Good evening, everyone. Fascinating

:08:53.:09:04.

second session this is going to be. All that was happening in the first

:09:05.:09:07.

session Ken, one mistake and the other player was winning enough to

:09:08.:09:12.

take the frame. Yes. Very high quality session. 71, Ronnie came

:09:13.:09:23.

back with 63, 65, 69, 59 and 44, the breaks. Tough quality. What an

:09:24.:09:26.

atmosphere as well. Hand shake and smiles all around.

:09:27.:09:46.

Great respect for each other these two players.

:09:47.:09:53.

And of course Ronnie in China is almost as well-known as Ding Junhui.

:09:54.:10:05.

I mean this is a national treasure. Safe to say there'll be a few people

:10:06.:10:07.

watching it over there, I'm sure. It's quite interesting that we share

:10:08.:10:30.

what Steve said. Ding doesn't have a great record against Ronnie

:10:31.:10:35.

O'Sullivan. But what an opportunity should he win this match, you know,

:10:36.:10:39.

maybe it might be the catalyst, as Steve said. Maybe he could claim his

:10:40.:10:50.

first World Championship. He's going to have it all to do. Ronnie

:10:51.:10:58.

O'Sullivan looking in great form as indeed Ding Junhui is. It's amazing

:10:59.:11:05.

they've only played each other once in the Crucible, back in 2007 and

:11:06.:11:09.

Ronnie won that 10-2. They haven't played each other in a major

:11:10.:11:12.

competition for nearly three seasons and Ding is improving all the time

:11:13.:11:17.

so I don't think the head-to-head Ding will be worrying about that,

:11:18.:11:24.

because he's been improving and it's all about what's happening today.

:11:25.:11:36.

Opener from Ronnie O'Sullivan. Always tricky those shots, he's held

:11:37.:11:41.

it for the black into the same pocket.

:11:42.:11:53.

Straightaway, this is a terrific chance for Ronnie O'Sullivan.

:11:54.:12:08.

That wobbled its way into the pocket. Just the pace. Any harder,

:12:09.:12:19.

that was staying over the pocket. Beautiful little cannon on that red

:12:20.:12:23.

to release the other one into the same pocket.

:12:24.:12:48.

Nice angle on the black. Maybe the two reds that are close together, to

:12:49.:13:15.

the right of the main bunch. Four reds, four blacks. He'd have to

:13:16.:13:33.

swing this right around the angle. Couldn't hold for the black there.

:13:34.:13:39.

If he finishes nicely on the yellow, or the blue, he's looking at both, I

:13:40.:13:44.

mean the blue is perfect to go into the bunch. While this could really

:13:45.:13:50.

open things up, he's almost downplaying that shot, but change of

:13:51.:13:53.

plan, there is one red loose to the right of the bunch. That's what he's

:13:54.:14:02.

played for. This is the last potable red.

:14:03.:14:08.

So this is the key shot and he plays this shot so well. A lot of players

:14:09.:14:15.

will stun into the pack and the white sticks there, just watch how

:14:16.:14:21.

he plays it. Well... Oh, where's the black. Almost fluked it. Took his

:14:22.:14:27.

eye off the pot there. Unlike Ronnie. Very rarely to see him miss

:14:28.:14:32.

one off the black like that, or off the spot, rather. Concentrating so

:14:33.:14:41.

much on the power into the pack I think. Ding would love to get the

:14:42.:14:49.

black back on its spot here. That's exactly what he's played for. Hasn't

:14:50.:14:51.

played it hard enough. He's having a look at the black. He

:14:52.:14:58.

wanted it before it went down the table closer to the brown with the

:14:59.:15:02.

cue ball so if he can pot the black and take the red that's near the

:15:03.:15:04.

blue spot. Not quite sure whether the red

:15:05.:16:10.

closest to the pink spot will pot into the corner pocket. Ding just

:16:11.:16:19.

came round to have a look. He's taken this loose red. That red will

:16:20.:16:24.

certainly pot into the left centre. If he can get a nice angle after

:16:25.:16:31.

potting this black, he can't get on that red into the left centre.

:16:32.:16:52.

Now, that is a surprise. He's normally so good, Denis, on those

:16:53.:17:01.

reds into the middle pockets. I think it's because it's the first

:17:02.:17:05.

frame in the second session. Ronnie never missed one black off the spot

:17:06.:17:07.

in the first session. There wasn't too much tactical play

:17:08.:17:27.

in the opening session because it was all one-visit snooker.

:17:28.:18:22.

James Beatty on the left there and John heartson. James used to play at

:18:23.:18:34.

Sheffield and Blackburn. Gary Monk is here this evening as well, the

:18:35.:18:37.

Leeds manager. Both players just look a little edgy

:18:38.:19:43.

in this opening frame of the session. That could prove costly.

:19:44.:19:49.

Ronnie's been knocking in quite a few long ones. Well ahead of Ding in

:19:50.:19:57.

that department. It's such a key factor in the modern

:19:58.:20:11.

game who gets in with the long pots, Ken. Yes, it is. You can see lots of

:20:12.:20:17.

players, particularly in the practise round, constantly

:20:18.:20:20.

practising that type of shot that Ronnie just missed. Potting then

:20:21.:20:25.

coming off the cushion and around the angles back up for the blue or

:20:26.:20:27.

baulk colour. It's the shot that you always look

:20:28.:20:38.

for isn't it to get you in. Ronnie was quite some way away from this.

:20:39.:20:47.

Never even went near the jaws of the pocket and he'll be very

:20:48.:20:51.

disappointed with that. Such a good long Potter.

:20:52.:21:06.

He's trying to work out, as well as these other two reds, up near the

:21:07.:21:13.

blue, working out the best position to try to win the frame from this

:21:14.:21:17.

chance. Taken the opportunity to move the

:21:18.:21:44.

red that Ken mentioned, that's one red back into play. He's still got

:21:45.:21:51.

the one to the right and the one he just moved. So he's already thinking

:21:52.:21:59.

about ways of getting to that. APPLAUSE.

:22:00.:22:11.

If he could get a nice angle on the red, he could play exactly the same

:22:12.:22:18.

shot. Gone too far because the yellow didn't go into the centre of

:22:19.:22:26.

the pocket. Right side of the pocket. Because of that, he wanted

:22:27.:22:29.

to leave a nice angle on the red so he could knock the other red off the

:22:30.:22:33.

side cushion but he can't do that now. Already just got a perfect

:22:34.:22:45.

angle on the pink to pot this and come up off the cushion and bring

:22:46.:22:49.

the red. Doesn't want to hit it too hard.

:22:50.:22:56.

In's the shot that's available to Ding here -- that's the shot that's

:22:57.:23:06.

available to Ding here. Brilliant shot.

:23:07.:23:08.

APPLAUSE. Lots of noise coming from the other

:23:09.:23:22.

table, but that last shot, Well she you it again, he judged that to

:23:23.:23:28.

perfection. Couldn't have placed it any better. That was a wonderful

:23:29.:23:32.

positional shot. Once again, he potted the yellow off

:23:33.:23:57.

the right jaw, that's why he's come across a little bit too far.

:23:58.:24:08.

Should be straightforward but it would have been nice not to have to

:24:09.:24:12.

use the rest and the extension. The whole of the first session, it

:24:13.:24:33.

was one chance and the frame was over. It's been a wonderful break.

:24:34.:24:44.

He's taken these really well. It will be a bits of a blow for Ronnie

:24:45.:24:49.

O'Sullivan. Looked like he had a good chance at the start of the

:24:50.:24:57.

frame, then of course that long red. It doesn't matter about this black.

:24:58.:25:06.

And he started the way he started the opening session with a break of

:25:07.:25:12.

63, Ding Junhui back into the lead at 5-4.

:25:13.:25:17.

Looked like Ronnie O'Sullivan came steaming out of the blocks, Steve?

:25:18.:25:23.

Hit a brick wall, missed a couple of shots and missed what he'll be

:25:24.:25:29.

considering is quite a disappointing, quite a distance away

:25:30.:25:32.

from this. Sometimes when Ronnie's long game has not been in place,

:25:33.:25:36.

he's not been happiest around the table. Ding Junhui played a great

:25:37.:25:41.

shot there, he repeated it later on, that escape to get the red off the

:25:42.:25:46.

cushion, wonderful shot, wonderfully weighted shot as well, he didn't

:25:47.:25:50.

blast it. He knew if he connected properly, he'd push it over the

:25:51.:25:54.

pocket. That's a good start for Ding Junhui. Is Ding looking comfortable?

:25:55.:25:58.

I think perhaps that scare in the last round's calmed him down.

:25:59.:26:03.

Especially for a big match against Ronnie O'Sullivan. As we said at the

:26:04.:26:10.

top of the show, he's given Ding a few pummellings over the years.

:26:11.:26:15.

Perhaps there are a few mental scars on the heal and perhaps this is the

:26:16.:26:21.

time to do it. Ronnie looks nervous. You don't know what the players do

:26:22.:26:25.

on their time off in matches. That is the biggest problem to some

:26:26.:26:29.

degree, how you fill your time and, can you keep focussed, but also

:26:30.:26:32.

relaxed in-between matches. Every player does it a different way,

:26:33.:26:36.

perhaps that's the one part of the World Championship that Ronnie's not

:26:37.:26:40.

got right. 5-4, back to Denis and Ken.

:26:41.:26:46.

I mentioned Gary Monk earlier. He's doing a fabulous job at Leeds, he

:26:47.:27:04.

did a fabulous job at Swansea. Smashing fella. First time at the

:27:05.:27:11.

Crucible. He'll be enjoying it. And John Hartsson, t the first time he's

:27:12.:27:13.

been here too. Again not as close to the pocket as

:27:14.:27:28.

he would have liked. As well as a possible plant in the bottom right

:27:29.:27:32.

hand corner, the red's come over to left middle.

:27:33.:28:01.

Love to get on the red just above the black to the left.

:28:02.:28:11.

I don't think he can get on that red from this position. He may elect to

:28:12.:28:19.

try to take a couple of reds that are just right of the pink. That's

:28:20.:28:24.

why he's coming this side of the table.

:28:25.:29:17.

He's already looking at the shot that Ken mentioned there.

:29:18.:29:24.

And he can take that red and leave the black and then maybe get that

:29:25.:29:32.

red to the right of the black out of the way also.

:29:33.:29:42.

APPLAUSE. I think if he screws it back, that

:29:43.:29:47.

red's OK, if not, he can follow through and nudge the red.

:29:48.:30:09.

is a 21. It is almost a carbon copy of the first session, Ken. Will be

:30:10.:30:29.

interesting to see what he can do here, he has a wonderful angle to go

:30:30.:30:32.

into the pack but a couple of loose red are open and available. Decide

:30:33.:30:40.

to go into the pack of reds, now, how does this look? By that facial

:30:41.:30:50.

expression, not very good. He hit well enough a three quarters pink

:30:51.:30:53.

ball and he deserved to be on something there. Very unfortunate.

:30:54.:31:06.

They have had 144 pots each, incredible. Tier they had been going

:31:07.:31:10.

at a very good paster, average frame time of 15.5 minutes. The average

:31:11.:31:23.

shots time is 19 seconds for Ronnie O'Sullivan and 21 seconds for a Ding

:31:24.:31:26.

Junhui, certainly not messing around.

:31:27.:31:49.

The red he played has gone near the left corner pocket. Just looking at

:31:50.:31:58.

the angle he will have to get this because there is no easy path back

:31:59.:32:02.

down the table so it is a must pots, isn't it? That does add pressure. It

:32:03.:32:09.

is not like you are playing a shot to nothing, he will be going into

:32:10.:32:13.

the two reds. He would feel above the black and even into the pack if

:32:14.:32:20.

he misses those. A bit of pressure on this one. Izzie on the pink? Just

:32:21.:32:31.

about. He went full-blooded for the pot, he

:32:32.:32:58.

knew he would cannon the reds and he thought he had every chance of

:32:59.:33:01.

getting a couple and he deserved to finish the pink there.

:33:02.:33:49.

What has he done here? That was a strange shot. He got up off the shot

:33:50.:33:58.

and back down again. I don't think he is hard, I think he is out of

:33:59.:34:04.

position again. He is trying to get onto the red just below the pink

:34:05.:34:08.

that parts into this bottom corner pocket. What he should have done,

:34:09.:34:12.

what you would normally do, is just play a little cannon on that red

:34:13.:34:17.

directly above the black. He sort of quick on it a little bit. He should

:34:18.:34:21.

have played the more positive shot and it has cost his position and a

:34:22.:34:24.

great chance to win the frame. Well, it is another great length of

:34:25.:34:52.

cue ball from Ronnie O'Sullivan 's safety shot but once again he has

:34:53.:34:57.

been a little bit unfortunate here, Ronnie, he has knocked this red

:34:58.:35:01.

close to this right-hand corner pocket. A similar shot to the

:35:02.:35:07.

previous long red on the opposite side. Again, pressure on this one.

:35:08.:35:21.

He is just so good. That is so good. He is unlucky he is not on matte

:35:22.:35:29.

black, but what a shot. I mean, the cueing is just superb. He put

:35:30.:35:33.

everything into the pot and this time no colour.

:35:34.:35:59.

I mentioned this morning about Ronnie having a new tip put on the

:36:00.:36:04.

cue after the Shaun Murphy match. Les. Came over from Southport. He

:36:05.:36:21.

has a club over there and he used to be professional and Ronnie has him

:36:22.:36:27.

working on the tips. He decided he wasn't happy with the tip that was

:36:28.:36:31.

on solos came over on Sunday and put a new tip on for him. -- Les came

:36:32.:36:40.

over on Sunday and put a new tip on for him. List the long pot this

:36:41.:36:49.

time. Is he going to stick it up? I think he is.

:36:50.:37:12.

A loose red right up the pack. A couple of threads above the black

:37:13.:37:20.

spot as well our pot of also plenty of options here for Ronnie. That was

:37:21.:37:24.

nicely played. Every frame he has one so far, I

:37:25.:37:49.

mentioned earlier, he has won with one visit. Can he do the same here?

:37:50.:38:03.

A lovely little cannon on the reds. This would look like his most

:38:04.:38:10.

difficult pot along this top cushion. He has to give this red a

:38:11.:38:18.

little bit of respect. He played it well.

:38:19.:38:32.

Look at that statistic there, tournament total points. 2951 for

:38:33.:38:43.

Ding and 2954 for Ronnie O'Sullivan. They are so close.

:38:44.:38:55.

Quite clever, Ronnie taking the pink here. It will go up onto the brown

:38:56.:39:03.

spot but that will of course release the red that is close to the pink

:39:04.:39:08.

and in a portable position so Allred 's close to the open. Leo had his

:39:09.:39:16.

ball marker but Ronnie... You can't ask beforehand if the spot is

:39:17.:39:19.

available or not, you just have to use your judgment.

:39:20.:39:44.

This is lovely to watch. Two of the game 's great boat builders and

:39:45.:39:50.

probably the greatest at the table at the moment. Ding had a couple of

:39:51.:40:05.

chances in this frame already. It is like two boxers, isn't it, going

:40:06.:40:09.

round for round, this is a good response from Ronnie if he can win

:40:10.:40:16.

this game in this visit. He never looks like getting a chance after a

:40:17.:40:20.

couple of good long pots from Ding Junhui earlier on in the frame. But

:40:21.:40:28.

he has responded to a bit of pressure.

:40:29.:40:41.

It is, he doesn't want to get too close to that brown. Is it rocked

:40:42.:40:48.

back? Izzy on the green? It looks like years but he had to stop in his

:40:49.:40:54.

tracks for a minute. Just about. That was close!

:40:55.:41:10.

It is just magnificent, isn't it? So good to watch. I commentated on all

:41:11.:41:18.

of the opening session with Stephen Hendry, and it was a delight to

:41:19.:41:31.

commentate on. What I match we have in store here. A fantastic frame

:41:32.:41:35.

from Ronnie O'Sullivan and it clinches the frame. Ding had a

:41:36.:41:40.

couple of chances that he should have combated but he didn't. Ronnie

:41:41.:41:47.

O'Sullivan obliged and it is 5-5. Ken is right, you don't give those

:41:48.:41:50.

opportunities to Ronnie O'Sullivan. If you want to get in touch with us

:41:51.:41:54.

on social media we would love your comments and your questions for

:41:55.:41:58.

Steve Davis this evening. Any questions about your game or about

:41:59.:42:02.

this match or who is going to win the title as well? As Ken says,

:42:03.:42:09.

don't give those chances to Ronnie. No, he doesn't usually need that

:42:10.:42:12.

many. Perhaps no clues as to yet who is going to unlock this match. Both

:42:13.:42:17.

players making a couple of errors, once in amongst the balls. The key

:42:18.:42:21.

to modern-day snooker is how many times you can actually make a

:42:22.:42:25.

frame-winning visit to the table from the off, and don't let shop

:42:26.:42:29.

owner back at the table. It doesn't mean to say it will always be like

:42:30.:42:30.

that but the more times you can do that, the better.

:42:31.:42:45.

That was very different to the morning session because we actually

:42:46.:42:47.

had that with Ding Junhui getting to the table and finishing the frame

:42:48.:42:50.

and one visit and there is not much then that Ronnie O'Sullivan can do.

:42:51.:42:53.

If you start to become that relentlessly become a problem and a

:42:54.:42:55.

headache to your opponent but I do not know how this will pan out. It

:42:56.:42:58.

is not that they are both wary of each other at all, it is just that

:42:59.:43:02.

as yet we have not got a player that has totally taken off in this

:43:03.:43:05.

session. It is very early as well, and eight frame session so perhaps

:43:06.:43:09.

all you could hope to do is win it 5-3. A few nights ago I was here

:43:10.:43:27.

with Ken clear that the Neil Robertson Marco Fu match would go

:43:28.:43:31.

the distance. It was tit for tat and I suppose in a way, given what was

:43:32.:43:34.

at stake, we could be on for the same sort of match. It seems that

:43:35.:43:37.

way, doesn't it? Unless one of them has an aberration and drops off the

:43:38.:43:40.

face of form so to speak we could be in for a grandstand finish and said

:43:41.:43:43.

the last session, second session finish. Then becomes a little bit of

:43:44.:43:46.

a lottery on who has the biggest heart. We nobody O'Sullivan doesn't

:43:47.:43:48.

falter under pressure. He is a great front runner and a great under

:43:49.:43:51.

pressure but also Ding Junhui is coming to the fore in that respect

:43:52.:43:57.

as well. Ken, we were talking about what a session it was with the Neil

:43:58.:44:03.

Robertson and Marco Fu. Yes, we have had so many good matches in this

:44:04.:44:07.

championship and this is shaping up to be another classic. Another good

:44:08.:44:12.

long putt from Ding Junhui. It is a interesting point that Steve was

:44:13.:44:16.

saying in the studio there. Ronnie O'Sullivan is well-known for being

:44:17.:44:22.

able to clear up and cope with the pressure but Ding Junhui, if the

:44:23.:44:25.

chance comes to Ding, I don't think he will bottle it. No, he is faced

:44:26.:44:31.

with a medium length blue. He had a fabulous win against his

:44:32.:44:48.

fellow countrymen on a deciding frame. I mean, this would be great

:44:49.:44:57.

if it went all the way, but you just deal with these two players that one

:44:58.:45:00.

of them is just going to grab hold of it and have a run of two or three

:45:01.:45:08.

frames. At the moment there is nothing to pick between them.

:45:09.:45:30.

I am just talking about breaks. The century break spat Ding Junhui has

:45:31.:45:39.

made, 347 and he only turned professional in 2003. He is the

:45:40.:45:50.

leading century maker in this years BetFred world with seven. He has

:45:51.:46:00.

made 49 centuries at the Crucible. Incredible. One of the best scorers

:46:01.:46:04.

that we have ever seen in the game. He has made a maximum six times as

:46:05.:46:26.

well in competition. It is just his cue ball control that is so good. He

:46:27.:46:34.

makes every shot so easy when he is in the right form. It is so

:46:35.:46:40.

important when you break-building, just control of that cue ball. It

:46:41.:46:50.

just takes hours and hours and hours of practice. Which a lot of the

:46:51.:47:00.

Chinese players do. At the Academy in Sheffield they are so

:47:01.:47:01.

disciplined. I know the contract has been signed

:47:02.:47:15.

to keep the World Championship at the Crucible for another ten years.

:47:16.:47:19.

In ten years' time you might be seeing a lot of Chinese players

:47:20.:47:26.

competing at the Crucible. Now, he has been unlucky again. Unless, I

:47:27.:47:33.

was just going to say unless he could get past the pink to hit the

:47:34.:47:38.

red and not the red in that is over the pocket, it is end of break. If

:47:39.:47:44.

he can see the one past the pink to flick it onto the one over the

:47:45.:47:48.

pocket, but I don't think he can do this. This is a thin cut back end

:47:49.:47:52.

that he is looking at into the left corner. Had it dropped on a red

:47:53.:47:58.

nicely it would have been end of frame. He could not hit it much

:47:59.:48:11.

better. Oh, it is right in the centre of the pocket.

:48:12.:48:21.

Well, held for the blue. The pink will pot. He is coming around to

:48:22.:48:33.

have a look. The pink will definitely put into the left centre

:48:34.:48:39.

if he can just drop this red in. Hold for the pink.

:48:40.:48:47.

The problem is when the pink respot it is not going to be available into

:48:48.:48:58.

any pocket. He can only concentrate on the blue all the baulk colours

:48:59.:49:05.

after this. But he won't be too concerned because he only needs, he

:49:06.:49:12.

is 57 a head, he only needs a couple more rounds with high value colours,

:49:13.:49:20.

a couple of blues will do. He has overhit that one back a long way.

:49:21.:49:25.

Now, that has given him a bit of a problem now. He should have been

:49:26.:49:30.

nicely on the blue. He is 58 in front though so he is a good few

:49:31.:49:36.

points away from securing this. It is the 11th frame, a friend that

:49:37.:49:39.

could take him back into the lead again. This should have been a lot

:49:40.:49:41.

easier. He has overcut it. Oh, it just crept

:49:42.:49:56.

in. Then he has probably just overdone that slightly. Yes, just

:49:57.:50:08.

the pace, I think. Any hard and the blue was going to stay out. Now he

:50:09.:50:13.

has to negotiate the cue ball between red and black while potting

:50:14.:50:15.

this red into the right corner pocket. Back out for the blue again.

:50:16.:50:23.

This could go wrong. He has got to stay away from the red that is

:50:24.:50:35.

closest to the left corner pocket. There is a possible get round to the

:50:36.:50:42.

blue but don't forget the pot on the red. He can avoid the reds here, I

:50:43.:50:47.

think. No, he has played for the... Well... It was very, very precise to

:50:48.:50:56.

finish on the pink and it is not a gimme, this, by any means. He is 64

:50:57.:51:08.

in front, still a possible 67 on. No, he has missed it. Ding Junhui,

:51:09.:51:18.

64. The black is tied up slightly but there is enough points there.

:51:19.:51:21.

Ronnie doesn't necessarily have to take all blacks. He has three points

:51:22.:51:29.

to play with there. But he has took the chance to bring the black into

:51:30.:51:32.

play. He was always going to have the pink, that was such a clever

:51:33.:51:36.

little shot that all of a sudden, what a steal this could be. A

:51:37.:51:42.

wonderful shot, that was, very, very clever. He had to just get one

:51:43.:51:46.

quarter of the black to knock it just off the condition and is now

:51:47.:51:50.

just one good positional shot here from Ronnie O'Sullivan and he has

:51:51.:51:55.

got a great chance. This looks very good. If it misses the black, and it

:51:56.:52:00.

has done, this is perfect. What a shot he has played there. He had to

:52:01.:52:08.

play with lots of right side. This could be, as Ronnie looks at

:52:09.:52:24.

the scoreboard, one of the many turning points of this match. Ding

:52:25.:52:40.

Junhui has made a break of 64, meanwhile Ronnie just contemplates a

:52:41.:52:43.

tricky red, he just let this go and this is a little bit more difficult,

:52:44.:52:55.

the cutback. He played a very bell. -- very well. And he can just about

:52:56.:53:01.

afford the pink it. This will put him 42 points behind with a possible

:53:02.:53:08.

43 still left on the table. Oh, has he hit it... He has hit it lovely.

:53:09.:53:13.

He needs two reds and two blacks and all the colours to win by a single

:53:14.:53:17.

point. What a clearance this could prove to be.

:53:18.:53:44.

What has he done there? Goodness me. Well, Ding Company for Ronnie has

:53:45.:53:54.

just played there. That was a little lapse in

:53:55.:54:10.

concentration because out straightforward pot. In fact he

:54:11.:54:14.

concedes the frame and what a body blow that could have been for Ding

:54:15.:54:18.

Junhui. He should have cleared up. Look at the expression, that is what

:54:19.:54:23.

he thinks about it. Ding is back the lead. It 6-5.

:54:24.:54:29.

Amazing. We were looking at that unthinking, goodness me. You are so

:54:30.:54:32.

used to Ronnie O'Sullivan clearing up in situations like that and to

:54:33.:54:36.

make a basic error of putting the cue ball in a place where it is

:54:37.:54:39.

impossible to miss the final black is a little bit worrying from 's

:54:40.:54:45.

perspective. That is quite a lack of judgment in kiss of the shot,

:54:46.:54:49.

obviously playing with the rest before that for the red, but he

:54:50.:54:53.

won't be happy that all of a sudden some of the things that on occasions

:54:54.:54:57.

come naturally to him, all of a sudden they are falling to pieces.

:54:58.:55:01.

Dennis called it a lapse in concentration but is it more than

:55:02.:55:07.

that? It is a judgment of pace. You can say you put too much into

:55:08.:55:11.

potting the ball and do not put enough on the black, these shots are

:55:12.:55:15.

quite obvious for players but it is quite a misjudgement of pace. Our

:55:16.:55:20.

cameras caught Ronnie mouthing, that's horrible and it certainly

:55:21.:55:24.

was! We will go to the red button very shortly but we stay with you

:55:25.:55:28.

for the next couple of minutes and keep your red button ready. We will

:55:29.:55:29.

be there very shortly. A chance to redeem things if he can

:55:30.:55:50.

knock this in. No. Just take a little while to put that out of his

:55:51.:55:55.

mind, that last frame. All he had to do was just drop the red in and it

:55:56.:56:00.

has got to be just a little lapse in concentration, he hit it too hard. I

:56:01.:56:07.

am not quite sure why he didn't try and touch the pace by coming off the

:56:08.:56:11.

cushion because you can afford to it it a little bit harder. Meanwhile a

:56:12.:56:13.

good long red from Ding Junhui. A good pot. He held it nicely before

:56:14.:56:23.

the baulk line. Ding is one of the players who keeps

:56:24.:56:37.

his head absolutely still on the shot. A lot of players have a little

:56:38.:56:47.

bit of movement, also a lot of players keep their head still and it

:56:48.:56:50.

is a key factor, it is not all about that, it is all about delivering the

:56:51.:56:55.

cue, but it does help if you keep your head still, even on a power

:56:56.:56:56.

shot. He needs to make something happen

:56:57.:57:54.

now. The pink and black are tied up and it will not be easy to score

:57:55.:57:56.

from this position. Ding Junhui, 17. We are leaving you

:57:57.:58:36.

hear on BBC Two but we are switching to the red button and you will not

:58:37.:58:41.

make is a shot for this match with Ding Junhui against Ronnie

:58:42.:58:44.

O'Sullivan. Meanwhile on the sport website and applicant flick between

:58:45.:58:48.

the two tables with John Higgins against Kyren Wilson and we're back

:58:49.:58:54.

with highlights of today's play of the BetFred World Championship 20s

:58:55.:59:02.

17 at 11:15pm on BBC Two and 11:45pm in Northern

:59:03.:59:04.

As your wife, I don't like who you've become.

:59:05.:59:14.

Do you believe in your dreams? No, sire.
