the last three places were taken in the quarter-finals. We will see how

the last five teams made it through and made it one step closer to hand

Saturday's action, news of the quarter-final tour and goals from

the one and only SPL game played this weekend, as well. Joining Pat

Nevin is Jackie McNamara, whose managerial reign at Dundee United

got off to a sensational start. Let's start at Easter Road, and it

all-SPL meeting of heads and Aberdeen. Commentary from Paul

final when they met Aberdeen at Hampden. Some believe that 2013

might yet prove lucky for the men from lead. Four changes to the Hibs

side that lost to Ross County. Danny handling and Scott Robinson

his own. Aberdeen lost 2 st Johnstone in midweek. Three changes

quest to restore the Scottish Cup to Leith Bees even the Chicago Cubs

not winning the World Series for 104 years, the longest drought in

right side. He decided to go for it, immediately. The ball came back to

half. At half-time, Hibs 0, Aberdeen 0. They cannot be faulted

for effort in the first half, but in midweek. They have not lost

back-to-back matches all season. Hughes. -- passback. Gavin Rae,

getting into a little bit of and Jamie Langfield at last called

into action to turn the ball away. Corner kick. Jamie Langfield, out

to have a word with the referee. It was Jamie Langfield being

distracted in the previous effort, there was a laser pen being Shaun

in his direction. -- shone. Almost an own goal. It was Clark Robertson

who put it towards his own net. Aberdeen survivor scare. -- survive

a scare. Robinson, almost putting play. Almost a moment of madness

for Aberdeen. Johnny Hayes, heading it off the line. The police have

been made aware. They have been made aware of the section, but it

is like trying to find a laser pen in a haystack. Gary Deegan opens up

with the shot, he hits it superbly well, and he scores for the first

time for her Ghanaian. And Hibs are ahead at Easter Road -- for

Hibernian. Gary Deegan has had his ups and downs. He scores of an

absolute screener. Aberdeen Sat off him, and he gave that a terrific

hit. Jamie Langfield could do nothing about it. It ended up in

the back of the net. It is game on at Easter Road. Great strike from

Gary Deegan. He had a broken jaw, everyone in the season. -- earlier

breaks off to Ryan McGivern, and going to be denied by the offside

late on the Isle McGinn. The ball was a way, so James McPake, yellow-

dispossess at times. Leigh Griffiths, acrobatic, on target, to

close to Jamie Langfield. -- too close. That is going to be a free

Aberdeen have it again. Russell Anderson! Ben Williams called into

the match for almost the first time with a touch over the top. Russell

Anderson has 19 goals in his Aberdeen career, looking for number

20, and forcing a good save from Ben Williams. It came for Anderson,

and Scott Vernon, his first touch headed away by the goalkeeper, got

rid of it. And the goalkeeper got his hands up, and Scott Vernon,

almost with an immediate impact. The ball played in, the goalkeeper

decided to backtrack, a good decision. Scott Vernon's header was

a good one. Do you comes Johnny Hayes. Scott Vernon is there, too.

He takes that touch, he might have and a chance for Niall McGinn.

Almost three chances for Aberdeen. Peter Pawlett has made the

difference. Drifting past Alan Maybury, getting the shot away, he

could not get there, and Aberdeen come close again, but Ben Williams

him, penalty!" the referee is pointing at the spot. He cuts

inside, but he was bumped away from the ball and the referee said,

penalty. Ben Williams save one against Aberdeen last weekend. He

has a job to do again. Scott Vernon has scored a penalty against Hibs

before, he steps up, and doesn't scored! Ben Williams is the he will

are out of the William Hill Scottish Cup, defeated by a goal

from Gary Deegan after 49 minutes. He is the hero this afternoon. Ben

Williams the Hero for heads in terms of keeping Scott Vernon's

penalty at bay. It was a day for Gary Deegan, and were Hibs, to go

through to the quarter-final of the brought the game to life with that

strike at the start of the second. Yes, we settled down, at half-time

the gaffer had a few goals with us. And what a goal it was. -- a few

words with us. You said a penalty last week and you have done another

one this week. During the week they said, what is the secret? It is a

bit of hard work and a bit of research, and guessing the right

way. It was probably fairly cagey. The last two weeks in a row, we

have missed a penalty against Hibs. If we have scored last week we

would have been above them in the leak, and if we have scored the day

we would still be in the cup. So two penalty misses in two weeks and

a lot of chances missed towards the end of that game, we did nowhere

near enough to still be in the cup. It is a tricky tie purpose. We

would like to be at home. We would have to play very well. We need to

focus on that, and get back to winning ways before that in the

league. They have got some tough You look at Hibernian sometimes and

you think they got very lucky this year. I know their fans don't think

about it, they think just get on and enjoy it if you get through.

The you had a brief spell with them, Jackie. It was pretty painful for

the fans today, wasn't it? Yes, they're a great the way crowd. I

thought they were a bit unfortunate not to still be in the draw. They

deserved at least a draw today with the chances they created. It looked

a bit like the late head tennis ball at any point? And you can't

believe this is happening. In fact this summed up the first half.

There was no football played at all. Dreadful from both sides, but

Aberdeen tried to get it down a couple of times. It was slightly

better than the second half. don't think scoring goals is Gary

Deegan's specialist subject, so if you do score them, make them

special, and this was special. if the keeper had been a couple of

yards back, I don't know if he would have got it. I doubt it. It

was a great strike. I think it was the classic - the game needed a

goal and this was a belter. It was interesting the manager said I have

known Gary it's an awful long time and I have never seen him do that

there. It was painful for Aberdeen because very few shots on target

today. They got the one when it counted. This was painful for

Aberdeen because they would have had another penalty but for an

offside Duchy flag. A bad tackle, the trailing leg. How the assistant

can't see that was onside. I think he was playing the right back and

the left-back, but I think there was a bad chance. You can see it

was quite a nasty one. A at that point in time they were completely

taking over the game at Aberdeen and you thought it was a matter of

time. Ben Williams had a string of good saves, although Aberdeen will

look back and think they should have done better with some of these.

Yes, a lot of them were quite close to his body, one as you would

expect him to save. This one comes through a few bodies. The you're

staying is it is not always saving it, it is getting into the perfect

position. Yes, good reactions. work on that, you constantly see

them doing that and you wonder what they are doing but he will be

delighted with that. Rightly so, he was man of the match. This is a

penalty that was given - any doubt about the award? A didn't think it

was a penalty from this angle. referee is in the perfect position.

Did you say the referee was perfect? In the perfect position!

It is not the worst penalty, is it? No, it is not right in the corner,

but the keeper goes down. There is enough pace to go in. Hong his back

foot again, he gets a bit lucky it has to be said, but when it is

going for you it is going for you. If a touch of deja-vu for Aberdeen.

Yes, you feel for Craig Brown, he was devastated. The conceit it is

really affecting him, especially the chances they are creating as

well. Where don't think that is a coincidence with Ben Williams

because he has been beaten by it only one in six this season.

goalkeeper's growing confidence and they physically look bigger when

they are saving them. When they get a name for saving penalty kicks, it

must affect the players. another save from Ben Williams,

this one was in stoppage time. He was trying to steal this down

rather than up. You can see the space on the far side to slot it,

but he went for power. They don't often ill kit, the goalkeepers, but

rightly so - he was the man of the match. Hibbs into the quarter-

finals. Having started the season so well, they have fallen away.

Griffiths has no support at all. 30 yards between him and the rest of

the team most of the time. That is fine, but to get into the top six

you need attack. Today's meeting between Dundee and

Morton was intriguing. Here is how that one went with Jonathan

Sutherland. After struggling with the SPL, some welcome respite for

Dundee courtesy of the Scottish Cup. Colin Nish with the Knockdown and

Jim McAlister was on it in a flash, firing home to put Dundee 1-0 in

front. Just two minutes after that, the First Division leaders were

level. Scott target with the ball into the box and Michael Tidser

with the goal. Just one place separating these sides in terms of

league placings, nothing separating them at half-time. Come the second

half, a chasm would appear. The header from Louis Toshney putting

Dundee into a 2-1 lead. And from here, Dundee were on cruise control.

The ball would find its way to Nicky Riley, his cross and the ball

bouncing off the head of Colin Nish and into the net to make it 3-1.

Not the most elegant goal Colin Nish will ever score, but effective

none the less. Three minutes after that, it was 4-1, falling to John

Douglas has been a busy man this season, and more often than not an

impressive figure between the sticks. More of decent saves today.

With eight minutes to go, Declan Gallagher gave the home fans cause

to cheer once more. Young defender with his first goal of the season.

As for Morton, the case of regrouping and refocusing on the

not insignificant task of taking top spot in the First Division. The

men from Greenock kept going to the end, searching for another goal.

Right at the death, it could have been 6-1. Great tenacious play from

Nicky Riley on the right wing, leading to some knockabout fun in

the penalty area. These attempts were blocked on the line, but now

no doubts over the result. For we have had a hard time of late but I

am delighted. We have had a convincing result and

we are pleased to get goals from five different scorers. Dundee

scored two goals in the second half, and it is disappointing, what a way

to lose and I feel sorry for the fans who have come to watch.

must take that performance into the next game against Ross County,

which will be difficult. If we keep playing like that, we think we have

got enough to build on. That is a scoreline that probably surprised

most people. Dundee have been struggling. If yes, Morton have

done very well this year. They have been strong on set-pieces this year,

not conceding many goals and I am surprised by that result. A Dundee

have scored eight goals all season, and now five in one day. Maybe they

defended badly, but also there was a bit of power involved. Colin Nish

often gets a bit of stick, in actual fact he was fantastic but

Jim McAlister was the one who got it going. Even though they were

pegged back, this one had a massive effect on the game. But first goal

is a good one from McAlister. Nish got a goal himself later, and

you feel this result could have dumped Dundee some good in the

league. This might get them going. Yes, they will get some confidence

from that. I don't know if Colin Nish knew about that. A these

pictures show he knew nothing about it. The ball came off the top of

his head and I think the defender should have done better here. I

think he deserved it, that's the point. He deserved that. I think he

was a real handful for Morton today. That is the reason the scoreline

was so convincing. A Morton have bigger fish to fry. Our live match

at lunchtime today brought back memories of of the day Raith Rovers

qualified for Europe. More than 18 years on, they took a trip to

Kirkcaldy hoping after there defeat last weekend to avoid another

Sunday slip up. You'll hear from Steven Thomson alongside Liam

Macleod. 27th November, 1994, still

celebrated around these parts. The jewel in the ground. The League Cup

triumph over Celtic at Ibrox came during a gloating period in history

of the club from a late equaliser and a penalty shoot-out saves.

Things have not been the same in Kirkcaldy since though, with top

flight football lost to the town since 1997. Hooper, still a Celtic

player, and that will be very of Neil Lennon. He was on the bench

for hearts when they won against Rangers at Celtic Park. 11 signed

these two have met since 1994 Cup final. It is the first time they

have met here since 1997, when Raith Rovers were relegated from

the top flight, not to have been Mulgrew. A great ball for Celtic.

Up you have seen them giving it, definitely. There was definitely

Charlie Mulgrew and a wonderful save. He holds the ball well

because the Celtic players were Celtic. There is another shouts for

handball and again Stephen McLean looks the other way. That was a

good chance for Celtic. I don't think you can call that a penalty.

It bounces off his knee, and up, and hits his hand. They have us a

good, the ball into the box from Kris Commons. -- a good deep ball

into the box. In from Charlie Mulgrew. What happened there?

don't even think the goalkeeper sees it. I wonder if it hits the

back post. Was it the post or was it his hand? It came off the line,

anyway. Celtic have another corner penalty area. Victor Wanyama did

not get enough power in it. Adam Matthews tries the shot, and Victor

Wanyama goes for the cheeky back- heel, but he did not get any pace

on it. That is a great ball in, so unlucky, what a ball from Walker.

Fabulous box, right into the area, between the central defenders and

the goalkeeper. Graham was only just inches away from putting Raith

from David Smith. Good effort from Matthews. He catches this very

sweetly, coming in from the right- back position and drives it, but it

was rising all the time and unfortunately for him, it was just

inside the box. They that is a third shout for a penalty in this

match, and a third that has been turned down. I am not sure how much

of the ball Simon Mensing guess. -- gets. Fabulous Paul in from

Matthews. Good movement from Tony Watt. It seems to hit the back of

his head, and trickles agonisingly dragging leg brings him down. That

was or word for Lucasz Zaluska air. Good effort that bounced right in

front of the goalkeeper. Graham does well to get it up and over the

Kris Commons. He has been tracked this time, and this time it is a

penalty. I don't think there can be any complaints. The same player,

Simon Mensing, I don't know why he has got to put his foot in, year.

They have got No. Has back and play as we can defend at all. Kris

Commons is not going anywhere dangerous, and he sticks that it in.

Kris Commons himself is going to take the penalty kick. Penalties

have been a problem for Celtic. They missed one last week in the

League Cup semi-final against St Mirren. Kris Commons, who scored

the winner from the spot against Spartak Moscow has the chance to

put the SPL champions lead. It is a big moment in the match. 1-0.

Fabulous penalty kick. Right into the bottom corner, it has got power

and it has got pace, it is within one fit of the post and the

goalkeeper had no chance. Just what Celtic wanted and needed. The ball

- footwork. How did he miss that? That was wonderful play by Gary

Hooper, sidestepping two players. The goalkeeper parries it out into

a dangerous area, and Scott Brown should score year. -- here. Grant

Murray wanting just a little bit was a chance. It comes across the

18-yard box, untouched. How often have you seen shorts like that

squirm under a defender's leg? -- shots like that. A second goal

would surely finish this game off, James Forrest knows that, and that

was a wonderful finish from James Forrest. Celtic look like they are

going through to the quarter-finals. The first touch from James Forrest

is absolutely super. Very difficult ball to deal with. He listed over

the defender's head. The keeper is possibly slow to get off his line.

It was a nice finish. Brilliant, foothold back in this tie. Lucasz

Zaluska did well to hold on. It was a good save an end. He catches its

weekly on the volley. Celtic not clearing their lines. -- catches it

icing on the cake. How about that for a finish from Charlie Mulgrew?

Raith Rovers 0, Celtic 3. We know that Charlie Mulgrew has got that

in his locker. He produces it, week in, week out, then set plays. The

ball is rolling. It is a superb curling shot into the top corner.

The goalkeeper N'Guessan hand to it but not enough to stop it going in.

-- gets a hand to it. The pitch was soft and cutting up so we had to be

patient playing it through the midfield. The players are

disappointed and I am disappointed. What disappointed to lose any game

of football and deja Mike is no different. What we put in a lot of

effort and we can take a lot of belief from that. We wanted to

frustrate Celtic. We felt we did that, even after going a goal down,

we were still going at them, but the quality shone through in the

end. I thought we had that extra bit of quality. They work

particularly hard and the first half and kept us at the, but we

were knocking at the door. Lucasz Zaluska did not have a great deal

of shorts to stop, but with a pitch in that condition it is not easy.

What was your view of the penalty shouts in the first half, with

those hand balls from Raith Rovers players? The initial one seemed

like a hand ball but speaking to them, it did not seem deliberate.

It was a quick area. We have had some curious handles given against

us. It is so the referee calls it on the day, I suppose. A players'

minds now on the Champions League tie coming up? On a personal level,

you have to play for the starting 11, week in and week out, you

cannot expect to play in next week's game, whether it is midweek

and then the Champions League. I play to keep myself in the starting

11 or try to get into it, and there are no guaranteed places at this

unlikely they were going to lose this week in the Scottish Cup?

hold out, if they might get lucky, for a second, this was great

defending and unique to Old sunblock in those occasions. But

this is what sums it up. Everybody back for the corner kick, putting

as many bodies in as possible, you see it, 11 players between the

striker and the ball. And that is the game plan. All of the first

half and part of the second half, it worked an absolute treat, but

you are taking a chance against a quality of Celtic, and you cannot

afford to be rash with the tackle in the box. I thought that was what

let them down. Celtic had four penalty appeals, one of them given.

Let us go through them. The first two were hand balls. How did she

feel about this, Jackie? I thought this could have been. He has put

his hand towards it. I thought that could have been a penalty. The next

one, I do not think that it was a penalty. It has bounced up. He has

not seen it as it has bounced up. It is not a penalty. This one, I

thought it was a penalty. It was clumsy, like the one that was given.

He puts his foot in. It was more clumsy than anything. Simon Mensing

has got to learn from that, hasn't he? He has got his back to goal. He

is not going anywhere. He does not need to challenge. He will be

disappointed looking back at that. He makes sure he gets inside the

box, and temps him. He deserved to get his penalty. It is actually not

a good penalty, it is a brilliant penalty. In fact, it is perfect. We

have frozen it to show you where it hurts, that is the side netting. It

has power, and it hits the side netting. I do not think there is a

goalkeeper in the world who could say that. That is the perfect

penalty. Celtic have Miss James Forrest, and he made a major impact

when he came on today. Yes, he has ability. He starts to move in his

own half, he keeps it going. This is a fantastic first touch. He just

slipped it under the keeper. There is a manager making good decisions,

keeping him on the bench, then having the buzz bomb who can come

on at the end with lots of energy. Fantastic boss touch, and great

finish. -- first touch. Was it harsh on Raith Rovers to be beaten

3-0, in the end? Probably, purely because they work that hard. It is

harsh on them because they worked so hard. In another way, it is not

harsh on them, Celtic and a very good side. Neil Lennon said to them

that they had to have the right weekend kicked off at Allardyce,

Saturday's early gain, Dundee United versus Rangers. What had

been billed as a grudge match would be one-sided and the tone set by

one of the fastest goals in Scottish Cup history. He scores in

the opening seconds! It is a dream start for Jackie McNamara and John

Russell. Before the half was out, it was 2-0.

The United captain doing what he does best. A second from Russell

settled the tie. Naismith and Ian black both seeing red. St Mirren

have a new cult hero, and he arrived last weekend with a goal

against Celtic. This weekend the striker on loan scored both goals.

He held it well, and finished beautifully. You get the feeling

there is more to come from him. Paul Heffernan replaced Sheridan,

Rugby Park was already resembling a war-zone. Two other players have

been lost to injury. This goal from Heffernan make the difference and

one out. He sends it back in, and it is a second goal from Heffernan,

the second goal for Kilmarnock. If top marks went to Stevie may...

The on-loan striker crashing this one in as Hamilton recorded a 2-0

victory. The accused will face Falkirk in the sixth round of the

Cup ensuring a sixth Division side The quarter-final draw looks like

this in the William Hill Scottish Cup. There will be a First Division

side in the semi-finals because it is Hamilton and Falkirk in the

first one. St Mirren against Celtic in a Cup competition for the first

time since last Sunday. How are you feeling about the Derby? It is a

great tide for both clubs. I had a feeling we would be picked with

Dundee. I think it is a good one, the fans were look forward to it.

What jumps out at you? It is the Dundee derby. Particularly because

it is that the dens. You were there courtesy of a 3-0 win against

Rangers yesterday. How was your first working match day? It was

good to get the first on foremost. You have got to start well in the

new job and it was a tremendous start. It was a great occasion, and

it was a good start. Did you feel as you were walking down the track,

did you feel the nerves you feel as a player playing your first game

for the club? To be honest it is worse. You get nerves before the

game, but as a manager you want to kick every ball. It is the next

best thing to playing. Nothing beats playing, but for me the

manager side of it, you want to stand on the side and be a part of

it. Was the last thing you told them give near goal inside 15

seconds? No, I told them to enjoy it! They handled it well, the

discipline side. They cost them a lot of problems. This gives you a

dream start. It does. They took the ball back from the centre, I

wondered why they were going back instead of forward. John struck

this one well, and the front caused them a lot of problems. Poor

Houston left the job because he reckoned he would not get enough

money to rebuild the team and meet his own ambitions. What makes you

think different? First and foremost you can see the players we are

working with, their talent. Ride through the team, from the

goalkeeper right through, there is a great squad. To work with them it

is a big attraction for me and hopefully they will go on and do

well. Do you plan to give youth more of a chance in the first team?

Of course. When you look at Hearts, other teams, they have young

players and there are different reasons for that but if they are

good enough they will play. It is important they go to good chance to

play and express themselves. Peter has done a fantastic job and

hopefully I can carry on his good work. Are you excited about the

prospect? A very much so. Leaving Partick Thistle was not an easy

decision for me. I enjoyed my time, it was going well, but this excites

me going forward. We have four SPL sixth, but they will feel the top

six is well beyond them. It was of a huge deflection. It was Rory

and Stephenson's boot that took it might feel he should do better but

save to prevent County regaining the lead. Nice football from County,

and the striker bringing the best That is a lovely header and puts

them in front. A great ball out from Fraser moorland and look at

this for a header. The keeper couldn't reach it. Andy Webster...

A good save. Either side of the keeper and that might have nestled

McDonald, but put into the back of the net, and surely in the dying

moments he secures Ross County to That is a useful point for both

teams when you look at the Clydesdale Bank Premier League

table. It takes Hearts above Kilmarnock. Ross County move

another point away from the bottom. That has been a fantastic showing

on their first season in the SPL. Yes, it is fantastic. Every team

can see some positives in that table. Even second to bottom, they

can see the possibility of getting into the top six. You can see how

well they are playing, there is a chance of that. I saw your eyes

lighting up with Dundee United, they have a great chance of getting

into the top six as well if they put a good run together. Ross

County, the first year up and they have done very well. It is there

for quite a lot of teams, Jackie. Yes, a lot to play for. Hearts have

some good players, a big striker from Liverpool. He looks a handful.

The can see his strength in holding on in the finish. Hopefully we will

be one of the teams in the top six. They are liking the looks of the

young guys starting. As I said, they are getting a chance to play

and they are thriving, doing well under pressure. That is good for

the game. We are heading into international week. It is Scotland

international week. It is Scotland against Estonia on Wednesday night,

Gordon Strachan's first match as Are you happy with the appointment?

I think a lot of people will feel very much so. He has not getting

different players, but I just think a little bit more attack from

Gordon and the fans will like that. Could he be the man to take

Scotland to some finals? Be it has been a long wait, but he has the

backing of the nation and hopefully will start off with a positive win.

What was your favourite moment of the Scottish Cup weekend? Gary

Deegan. He doesn't score many goals. Lashing it into the top corner like

this and winning the game with it. This was a superb goal, and

although you would argue Hibernian deserve to win the game, maybe they

would argue that goal deserved to win. That was a cracker. It was a

scream or from Gary Deegan. Jackie, your favourite moment? Watching the

game last night. The highlights were coming out, you can see my son

here in the box. That is shameful, you blanked him here. I didn't know

where he was. There he is. Waving, and you are ignoring him. Your dad

was in there as well and you ignored him as well. It was good to

have them up there, being a part of it. Be your boy was a ball boy so

how will you sweeten him up? He was a bit tearful when I said we were

leaving and he was losing his job as the ball boy. If leaving Partick

Thistle, was that a smooth exercise or was it difficult? It was

difficult. The position they are in, you want to finish the job and

ideally it would be at the end of the season. Hopefully they will win
