Hello. Super League will be ending this week at the home of the Premier

:00:29.:00:35.

League champions. But tonight, we'll start the week with the latest twist

:00:36.:00:38.

and turns in the race for Rugby League's greatest prize. It's been

:00:39.:00:41.

heavy going in some wretched weather. Here's what's coming up.

:00:42.:00:49.

Catch us if you can. Leeds are looking to stay ahead of the pack.

:00:50.:00:54.

The Rhinos are at Castleford. The Dragons drop in on Warrington.

:00:55.:01:01.

Was it a fifth win in a row for the French?

:01:02.:01:06.

And down on the beach. We are out for a stroll with Super League's

:01:07.:01:07.

record`breaking Saint Paul Wellens. Josh Hodgson and Jon Wilkin have

:01:08.:01:18.

arrived from opposite ends of the M62. They've met in the middle to

:01:19.:01:22.

give us some forward thinking on Round 12. We're a dozen rounds into

:01:23.:01:28.

the Super League season. And the opening fixture of the week was

:01:29.:01:30.

third`placed Castleford against table`topping Leeds. Your

:01:31.:01:31.

commentator is Dave Woods. It is a fantastic atmosphere inside

:01:32.:01:39.

the stadium tonight and another test of Leeds' recent impressive form.

:01:40.:01:45.

Castleford fans no doubt would have starred this fixture before the

:01:46.:01:51.

season began. But given the form they are in, they will be absolutely

:01:52.:01:57.

relishing it. Castleford look for the first points of the night here.

:01:58.:02:02.

Inside these opening ten minutes, Milner with a pass. And he's picked

:02:03.:02:08.

out Kirk Dixon on that right`hand side. Castleford have the opener.

:02:09.:02:15.

Smart play from Milner. And a gap found by Dixon.

:02:16.:02:23.

As they begin to look left, Mariano is crashed to the floor. Going to

:02:24.:02:31.

get a penalty here. A little bit too much messing about from Mitch

:02:32.:02:34.

Achurch. And it is in a very kickable position. He was simply all

:02:35.:02:43.

over him. This rather idiosyncratic kicking style that Marc Sneyd has.

:02:44.:02:47.

Just as effective as ever. Castleford lead by 8`0.

:02:48.:02:54.

Clarkson, at dummy half. A real surge by Ablett. Some team`mates

:02:55.:03:03.

hanging on. The struggle continues. Ablett is eventually put down.

:03:04.:03:09.

Clarkson again. Leeds, with Hardaker in the line here. And Watkins with a

:03:10.:03:19.

wonderful pass. Ben Jones`Bishop grabs his opportunity again.

:03:20.:03:23.

Discussion here and they will have to look at it one more time before

:03:24.:03:32.

Ben Jones`Bishop gets this. Was there an obstruction in the

:03:33.:03:37.

build`up? No problem seen as yet. Terrific hands for Watkins again.

:03:38.:03:45.

The decision is... Try. So Ben Jones`Bishop with a rare

:03:46.:03:46.

outing. A try to his name again. Hardaker offering it back on the

:03:47.:04:01.

inside to Joel Moon. Moon is asking a few questions here. Leeds trying

:04:02.:04:07.

to ramp it up. Sinfield. Stepped too much by Sutcliffe. That saw him lose

:04:08.:04:16.

his feet, and Sinfield again. Kallum Watkins! Athletically over again.

:04:17.:04:23.

Castleford 's defence unable to control his sheer progress. `` sheer

:04:24.:04:31.

prowess. But they are looking at the video ref again here. Was Michael

:04:32.:04:42.

Shenton obstructed there? No doubts once it got to Watkins' hands that

:04:43.:04:48.

that was a try all over. Kallum Watkins, either creating tries or

:04:49.:04:50.

scoring them. He is in exceptional form this season! Millington back on

:04:51.:05:01.

the inside for Craig Huby. Four substitutions that Castleford have

:05:02.:05:05.

made here to try to stem the tide that has been going against them.

:05:06.:05:09.

And looking to set up position. And Sneyd is in! Marc Sneyd, just before

:05:10.:05:18.

the break. Boy, did they need that? And if he kicks the goal, they will

:05:19.:05:23.

have the lead. No wonder there is a bit of a celebration on. Castleford

:05:24.:05:26.

will poke their noses ahead when the half`time hooter sounds.

:05:27.:05:34.

Sinfield, Rolling into dummy half again. It is basic good, solid,

:05:35.:05:41.

professional stuff from Leeds at the moment. The high kick the question.

:05:42.:05:47.

Taken by Hardaker. Taken with the top from Watkins and a second try

:05:48.:05:51.

from Ben Jones`Bishop! Leeds have the lead again. McGuire 's kick.

:05:52.:06:01.

Asking the questions. Shenton not able to get there. It was Hardaker

:06:02.:06:05.

who got the hand to it and caught him himself. And over the top for

:06:06.:06:08.

Watkins to create the space for Ben Jones`Bishop to finish.

:06:09.:06:18.

A couple of tackles gone. Four to come. And they are deep enough

:06:19.:06:27.

inside the Castleford half here. Peacock laying it back again. On to

:06:28.:06:37.

Watkins, and has Kallum Watkins got there? I think he has. The referee

:06:38.:06:42.

is asking both touch judges. And then gives the try. What an example

:06:43.:06:48.

of his sheer strength and determination, Kallum Watkins. It

:06:49.:06:55.

looked for all the world that he had been held up. McGuire and Sutcliffe

:06:56.:07:00.

involved. Opening up that Castleford defence. Watkins, short and a reach

:07:01.:07:08.

and reach and just get there! `` gets there. Leeds in control.

:07:09.:07:13.

Despite the scoreline, Brian McDermott said afterwards that was

:07:14.:07:18.

the toughest game that Leeds have had this season. What did you make

:07:19.:07:21.

of it? It is a tough place to go. Castleford played the pitch well. It

:07:22.:07:26.

tends to be a shorter pitch than most grounds in the Super League.

:07:27.:07:29.

Castleford are flying this year. They seem to be a tight`knit bunch.

:07:30.:07:34.

They have bought into the coach's new system and the way they are

:07:35.:07:37.

playing. They seem to be working hard for each other. They have

:07:38.:07:40.

surprised a few teams at the start of the season. I am not shocked at

:07:41.:07:44.

all by that being the toughest game for Leeds. Saints still the only

:07:45.:07:49.

team to have beaten Leeds. They are on quite a run? Yeah, doing really

:07:50.:07:53.

well. If you look at standout performance in that game. Kallum

:07:54.:07:58.

Watkins was outstanding. I think he has an international standard. The

:07:59.:08:02.

best this country has produced for some years. Really dangerous with

:08:03.:08:07.

the ball. And from the game, Castleford are a difficult team to

:08:08.:08:10.

play at home for the reasons Josh mentioned. That small field. A lot

:08:11.:08:14.

of front rowers who can move the ball. Like to pass the ball and

:08:15.:08:16.

challenge you defensively. Certainly, I think they challenged

:08:17.:08:21.

Leeds. But they ran out of steam. You never know whether that short

:08:22.:08:24.

turnaround building up to the game was a factor. But a great quality

:08:25.:08:28.

game. I thought it was very entertaining to watch. Both sides

:08:29.:08:34.

great defensively. Two tries apiece for Watkins and Ben Jones`Bishop.

:08:35.:08:40.

Then he announced he is leaving Leeds this season. Are you

:08:41.:08:43.

surprised? Personally, no, not really surprised. He is a quality

:08:44.:08:47.

player. And somebody of his calibre, I would expect him to be playing

:08:48.:08:51.

every week. And if he is not, it is probably time to go elsewhere. I

:08:52.:08:55.

think that is a good decision by him on a personal level. Leeds' outside

:08:56.:08:58.

backs have been flying all year. Probably the best outside backs in

:08:59.:09:01.

the league. And some really good form. And great wingers waiting to

:09:02.:09:07.

play outside. Watkins and Moon, two fantastic centres. But for players,

:09:08.:09:15.

and when you are in a salary capped sport, some players need to move on

:09:16.:09:19.

to play games. And Ben Jones`Bishop is one of those. He needs to be

:09:20.:09:22.

playing games. I am sure he will have aspirations to get back in the

:09:23.:09:26.

England setup if he plays a lot of Super League. You guess they will be

:09:27.:09:30.

queuing up to sign him as well. A very talented man and can play

:09:31.:09:33.

fullback as well. And an athletic guy like that, who is quite astute

:09:34.:09:37.

with position, is a commodity. A lot of clubs will be in the market for

:09:38.:09:40.

him. One thing that Daryl Powell talked about afterwards, we talked

:09:41.:09:43.

about it last week, was obstruction. Are we all getting a bit caught up

:09:44.:09:46.

in the whole obstruction thing? I think you are spot on. As players,

:09:47.:09:51.

there is a genuine obstruction, impeded as a defender. And then, the

:09:52.:09:55.

other obstructions which really a defendant is not impeded. It is just

:09:56.:09:59.

the style of attacking play that all teams play. So one thing is the

:10:00.:10:03.

players are very smart. We have cottoned onto it. I think you find

:10:04.:10:10.

players are appealing when a try is scored. Are you seeing that now?

:10:11.:10:15.

Yes, and as Jon says, if you can see if a player has been knocked all the

:10:16.:10:19.

way and that has forced him not being able to make the tackle. If

:10:20.:10:23.

the player in the game has checked that defender and got off to the man

:10:24.:10:27.

at the back, that is the one we talk about being obstructed. If he has

:10:28.:10:30.

done that and missed the tackle, I do not see that as obstruction. And

:10:31.:10:33.

you might have to trawl through hours of footage. And a lot of tries

:10:34.:10:37.

that would not be allowed. We score some great tries through that shape,

:10:38.:10:41.

though I think leave it as it is. It is a bit of common sense as well.

:10:42.:10:45.

It's been fortress Widnes for the Vikings this season. They were

:10:46.:10:49.

defending a 100% home record on Friday night, when the Wakefield

:10:50.:10:52.

Trinity Wildcats were in town. It's ten years since Widnes enjoyed

:10:53.:10:55.

a home victory over Wakefield. And the Vikings were behind after just

:10:56.:10:58.

eight minutes on this one. Commentary from James Deighton of

:10:59.:11:02.

BBC Radio Leeds. Widnes, five metres out on last

:11:03.:11:07.

tackle. Losing the ball, Wakefield seize on it. Sammut has a foot race,

:11:08.:11:15.

60 metres to go. It looks like he is falling down all the time. Will he

:11:16.:11:19.

give it to Riley or go all the way? Gives it to Riley and Riley

:11:20.:11:22.

finishing it off for Wakefield. Right in front of the Wakefield

:11:23.:11:23.

fans. ?? YELLOW Wow! Five metres out, Wakefield. Tackles

:11:24.:11:38.

in the bank here for the Wildcats as Richard Moore runs across the line.

:11:39.:11:41.

What a try from Richard Moore! He just went through the Widnes

:11:42.:11:45.

tacklers. All the way to the try`line! The Vikings are just

:11:46.:11:54.

inside the Wakefield 20. Hulme dives on the left side. Widnes just with

:11:55.:12:01.

the numbers, Hulme found the space. Inside the ten, Widnes going down

:12:02.:12:08.

the right side. Flynn scored the try on the far corner.

:12:09.:12:17.

On the Wakefield try`line, and through there. Has he got it down?

:12:18.:12:22.

Ben Thaler says he has. Getting the pass away to Anderson.

:12:23.:12:34.

His second involvement in this. Taken inside the ten. Have they got

:12:35.:12:37.

numbers to the right`hand side, Wakefield? Siejka went himself. Did

:12:38.:12:44.

he get it over? Ben Thaler takes a look. Gives the try! Harry Siejka

:12:45.:12:51.

drives Wakefield back! Anderson back on for the Wildcats. Ten metres out,

:12:52.:12:57.

do they go in early for the drop goal? He scores! And wins it for the

:12:58.:13:08.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats! What a finish!

:13:09.:13:27.

I think that is a massive boost for them. Two weeks ago, they were four

:13:28.:13:34.

points in front of Bradford and hoping that Bradford's appeal for

:13:35.:13:38.

their points back did not go through. The last few weeks, the

:13:39.:13:42.

wins will be a massive psychological boost. That try, you could see

:13:43.:13:46.

Widnes expecting the drop goal. Yes, they fly up the line as you would

:13:47.:13:50.

hope they would do. They put pressure on the guys. He's an

:13:51.:13:53.

instinctive player, passing side to side. A great try, a fantastic

:13:54.:13:57.

celebration. That shows you how much it means. A great win. It says a lot

:13:58.:14:03.

about the spirit in the team because a couple of years ago, Richard Agar

:14:04.:14:07.

had to bring a team together from scratch and they got that gypsy

:14:08.:14:12.

spirit in them, as they call it. Yes, they have got some spirit

:14:13.:14:16.

there. They need to start winning games consistently at home. When

:14:17.:14:19.

they do that, Wakefield tend to well. This season, we have two sides

:14:20.:14:26.

that are going down and it is becoming very real all of a sudden.

:14:27.:14:29.

We start talking about the points difference and Bradford being eight

:14:30.:14:33.

points adrift now. The pressure really starts to build. Yes, and as

:14:34.:14:37.

you said, this season flies by and Wakefield have an eight`point

:14:38.:14:40.

advantage, it will relax a bit more and start to concentrate on playing

:14:41.:14:45.

well as opposed to thinking where they are in the league table. For

:14:46.:14:49.

Widnes, the homework has been so key, how how much will it hurt to

:14:50.:14:52.

have lost that 100% record? I think the form they have been in they

:14:53.:14:56.

would be expecting to beat Wakefield. But they are a great team

:14:57.:14:59.

as we found out last week. They came to us and managed to pinch it in the

:15:00.:15:06.

dying minutes. Wakefield left Bradford eight points away from

:15:07.:15:17.

safety at the foot of the table. The Bulls were at home on Sunday. There

:15:18.:15:23.

was a great start for you and the team. Yes, a long, free`flowing try

:15:24.:15:26.

from myself, a trademark two metre fall over the line. They all count.

:15:27.:15:31.

I think we were very pleased with how it had gone. We wanted to put a

:15:32.:15:37.

good performance in, score some points, play some football. And that

:15:38.:15:41.

is what we did. Off the back of that, we have had a real focus on

:15:42.:15:45.

improving our defence and to Neil Bradford was very pleasing. We

:15:46.:15:52.

scored some great tries. Johnny Lomax, whenever we play well, Johnny

:15:53.:15:55.

Lomax, James Robbie, they are always pivotal. Usually I come in here and

:15:56.:16:08.

I've dropped the ball, so it is nice to come in here and have scored a

:16:09.:16:12.

couple of tries. For Bradford, they started all right, but had they got

:16:13.:16:17.

an early try, they might have given you a better fight? Yes, I think

:16:18.:16:22.

Bradford struggled throughout this game, I don't think they played well

:16:23.:16:25.

and we did play well. It's difficult for Bradford at the moment, they

:16:26.:16:29.

have had such a difficult period. The last few years have been very

:16:30.:16:33.

difficult. I think the players deserve a lot of credit. But they

:16:34.:16:39.

need to start getting some results and improving their performances.

:16:40.:16:42.

From our perspective, I thought we did very well. When we play well,

:16:43.:16:47.

Jimmy Rodham plays well. Can you say much about St Helens form? You can

:16:48.:16:52.

only play the teams in front of you. We have played London and Bradford

:16:53.:16:56.

down at the foot of the table. We have done that, we have scored some

:16:57.:17:01.

points. For and against. Not only that, we have defended pretty well

:17:02.:17:08.

during both of those games. The big games are so different. We certainly

:17:09.:17:17.

look to build on that. We have a big game this week against Warrington.

:17:18.:17:20.

For Bradford, hopes were high because they had the back`to`back

:17:21.:17:24.

wins. How do you pick yourselves up after that? You have to dust

:17:25.:17:28.

yourselves down after a game like that. It was a pretty big scoreline.

:17:29.:17:34.

You have to put it down to a bad day at the office and try and go again.

:17:35.:17:38.

You can't get too caught up with things. Full credit to St Helens. It

:17:39.:17:42.

is a sign of a good team to be that far up. It is a great trait to have

:17:43.:17:46.

in the team. Paul Wellens was back on the field

:17:47.:17:51.

for St Helens. It was match number 417 of his Super League life, a

:17:52.:17:54.

record number of appearances matched only by Kevin Sinfield. We caught up

:17:55.:18:13.

Does reaching a landmark matter to you? It doesn't matter in terms of,

:18:14.:18:25.

it's not something I focus on. But when you get there and you reach

:18:26.:18:27.

those milestones, it's something I am proud of. What makes it special

:18:28.:18:34.

is the company you are in. Keith Senior, Kevin Sinfield, Jamie

:18:35.:18:37.

Peacock, certainly in good company there. All players I get on with

:18:38.:18:51.

really well. I have a huge amount of respect for them. Nathan Brown has

:18:52.:18:55.

made a point that you have reached this landmark in a good team. You

:18:56.:18:56.

have to keep that performance regularly high. From my perspective,

:18:57.:18:59.

that has helped me. Playing for my hometown team, I still really enjoy

:19:00.:19:04.

what I am doing. To be able to play so many games, you have to enjoy it,

:19:05.:19:08.

to get up every weekend go to training and perform your best at

:19:09.:19:12.

the weekend. I have been fortunate to stay with my own town club. On

:19:13.:19:16.

the way, you need luck with injuries, which I have had a fair

:19:17.:19:22.

bit of luck with injuries. I think those two things coupled together

:19:23.:19:25.

enable you to reach these landmarks. Does it get tougher as you get

:19:26.:19:30.

older? From the mental side of things, I think it has got easier. I

:19:31.:19:42.

know what's expected of me, I don't stress about things as much as I did

:19:43.:19:47.

this when I was younger. I think I'm more comfortable in the environment.

:19:48.:19:50.

I know what is expected of me. Older players say that you only actually

:19:51.:19:53.

understanding rugby league just when you are about to retire, are you

:19:54.:19:58.

finding that? You are understanding things more on the field than you

:19:59.:20:01.

would have done 5`10 years ago? Certainly. Experience is learning.

:20:02.:20:06.

Year`on`year, you build your knowledge base. I am in my 17th

:20:07.:20:11.

season now so I have been quite well`educated and played with some

:20:12.:20:17.

great coaches along the way. Even more so in the last 12`18 months.

:20:18.:20:27.

The change of position I have had, I have experienced a good number of

:20:28.:20:30.

roles which has given me a good understanding and perspective of the

:20:31.:20:35.

job and demands of other players. What a finish. Absolutely

:20:36.:20:44.

sensational. Wellens with a run here. The old man has still got it.

:20:45.:20:56.

You were part of a generation that came through, how do you rate this

:20:57.:20:59.

current crop of young players? I am like everyone else, really excited.

:21:00.:21:02.

The potential these guys have is huge. What else is great about them

:21:03.:21:05.

is they are really good kids, very grounded, they work hard for each

:21:06.:21:08.

other. These young players certainly have the potential to go a long way

:21:09.:21:13.

in the game. Hopefully, I will be able to stand by and watch them do

:21:14.:21:21.

that. And look back in 10`15 years, they will be in a similar position

:21:22.:21:25.

to me having played a long time for the club. How long can you carry on,

:21:26.:21:29.

before you finally say that's it? I don't know. What I've done the last

:21:30.:21:35.

few years is take it one year at a time. I've got a great relationship

:21:36.:21:40.

with the chairman of the club. We sit down for contract negotiations

:21:41.:21:43.

which never take more than 5`10 minutes over a cup of tea. I will

:21:44.:21:46.

have a similar conversation with him again midway through the season but

:21:47.:21:50.

a lot will depend on how the body is, whether there are any injuries

:21:51.:21:54.

and a few different things. Also sit down with the family and discuss

:21:55.:21:58.

things. I am in no real kind of rush to make a decision. It's a great

:21:59.:22:03.

club and I don't feel under any pressure to make a decision.

:22:04.:22:08.

John, you played with him for many years, what has made such a special

:22:09.:22:15.

player? I think the biggest skill that Paul has as a person is his

:22:16.:22:19.

ability to read people and relate to people. One key thing he mentioned

:22:20.:22:28.

is the reason you become a great leader is empathy. He understands

:22:29.:22:31.

the demands of the positions within the team now. He has certainly got a

:22:32.:22:37.

broader understanding due to playing several different roles. But Paul

:22:38.:22:42.

was a really friendly face at a time when I moved to St Helens. He

:22:43.:22:49.

commandeered me at that point to essentially be his brew slave for

:22:50.:22:56.

the next 11 years. I've made him around 3,500 cups of tea. You did

:22:57.:23:01.

think he had nicked your jacket? We have had an ongoing thing in clothes

:23:02.:23:05.

theft. He's got my jeans, I've got jackets, all sorts going on. He has

:23:06.:23:09.

only got one belt and he wears my belt still to this day. That is

:23:10.:23:15.

something we didn't know about him. As somebody who plays against him,

:23:16.:23:18.

what had been his particular traits? You have to have a massive respect

:23:19.:23:21.

for somebody who has played that many games at such a high standard

:23:22.:23:24.

and never having dropped. His game has never dropped. He has played

:23:25.:23:31.

tough and done a great job wherever he has played on the park. For

:23:32.:23:35.

somebody to play 400`odd games and still to be going strong, it is a

:23:36.:23:39.

massive thing. Would you like to see him go around again next season?

:23:40.:23:43.

Yes, just to get some brews back in my favour. Will you get your belt

:23:44.:23:47.

back? No, that's gone, written that off, three month rule. One thing

:23:48.:23:53.

about Paul is he is a fantastic leader. He has been a great player

:23:54.:23:58.

because he really cares about his trade, his profession. In any walk

:23:59.:24:04.

of life, the people who genuinely care what they do seem to achieve

:24:05.:24:07.

great results and that is what Paul has done.

:24:08.:24:10.

There is another big derby looming for Hull Kingston Rovers. They were

:24:11.:24:21.

getting ready for magic weekend in Salford on Saturday night, but awful

:24:22.:24:23.

conditions. How difficult did it make the game? It made the game very

:24:24.:24:27.

scrappy, it was a scrappy start, a lot of dropped balls. But conditions

:24:28.:24:30.

were the same for both sides. We didn't start well. And our start was

:24:31.:24:45.

going to be massive against Salford. They were looking for a result. It

:24:46.:24:49.

was a big week and it was always going to be a middle game. The

:24:50.:24:51.

conditions affect the game massively. Yes, especially a team

:24:52.:24:54.

like ourselves and like Salford even more so when you have such quick

:24:55.:24:57.

outside backs and skilful halfbacks. When it's a wet day, it's not the

:24:58.:25:01.

type of day for the slick passes and the fancy plays. It is old school

:25:02.:25:05.

rugby. And that is exactly what it was.

:25:06.:25:12.

We have got a replay of this. Your coach felt Meli was out. Yes, Craig

:25:13.:25:17.

thought it was out. I think the game is crying out for a video ref at

:25:18.:25:20.

every game. A few different camera angles. The game needs to find the

:25:21.:25:26.

resources for that. If that was out, what did he say afterwards? He said

:25:27.:25:29.

he got this one, and another one that did not get given. I'm biased,

:25:30.:25:35.

but I saw it go down. As John said, if you have more cameras there,

:25:36.:25:38.

there is a better chance of getting a definitive answer whether it is or

:25:39.:25:42.

is not a try. Rather than the ref going to a 50`50 decision. By the

:25:43.:25:50.

end, did you feel it was a game that got away, or a fair result? I think

:25:51.:25:54.

both teams will feel it is a game that got away from them. The game

:25:55.:25:58.

tended to toss and turn from both sides. Both teams taking momentum.

:25:59.:26:04.

There was a stage where we were defending on our own line. How do

:26:05.:26:09.

you feel now about 12 games into the season? The start was what made this

:26:10.:26:13.

season such a hard start for us. I think we picked up one point in the

:26:14.:26:17.

first five games. We picked up a couple of good wins after that, but

:26:18.:26:20.

consistency is what is needed. We have had a lot of injuries, people

:26:21.:26:24.

coming in and out of the teams, but that is the same for everyone. I

:26:25.:26:30.

think consistency now, building towards the big games at the back

:26:31.:26:34.

end of the year is crucial. A lot of teams are searching for that

:26:35.:26:39.

consistency. Looking to build some form going into the big games. Form

:26:40.:26:44.

at the start of year is great, gets you the headlines, gets you talked

:26:45.:26:48.

about, but I know as well as anybody that what counts is your form at the

:26:49.:26:52.

end of the season and that is what all these sides are hoping to

:26:53.:26:56.

achieve in the coming months. Michael Dobson, such a key player

:26:57.:26:59.

for you for so long. Was there a feeling of getting a different way

:27:00.:27:03.

of playing with him gone? No, I think the same structure has got to

:27:04.:27:07.

stay in place. That is a sign of a good team, you know what you do and

:27:08.:27:11.

do it well, not change too much. If you look at the top teams, they pick

:27:12.:27:15.

a few players and stick to them and run them really well. And that is

:27:16.:27:19.

what we had to do and what we have stuck with. There will be a bit of

:27:20.:27:23.

disruption there, but Salford have a basically had a brand`new squad. And

:27:24.:27:31.

that is going to take a lot of time. It will not come together quickly.

:27:32.:27:45.

What other targets for you? It is week in, week out, and consistency

:27:46.:27:51.

will be massive. Wigan have one on the last five visits to the KC

:27:52.:27:56.

Stadium and relating to make it six in a row, and some strength in

:27:57.:28:06.

depth. I did not think there is another team in Super League showing

:28:07.:28:08.

greater consistency than Wigan. If you pressed the peat `` pressed

:28:09.:28:21.

repeat every week, and their attention to detail and ability to

:28:22.:28:30.

execute players is second to none. The way that the shape of Wigan is

:28:31.:28:35.

set up, it means that the fullback, almost the last player will be

:28:36.:28:39.

heavily involved. And scoring a lot of points. Dan Sarginson doing well.

:28:40.:28:46.

Rather disappointing for Hull FC to concede that many points, and maybe

:28:47.:28:51.

the manner in which the dead. Really a disappointing night. As Michael in

:28:52.:28:58.

which the dead. They need something to start their season. With seven

:28:59.:29:03.

players out, it was really impressive. It is, and when we speak

:29:04.:29:11.

about teams being a well oiled machine, that is what Wigan are. The

:29:12.:29:17.

players know where they need to be, and that is the sign of a good

:29:18.:29:22.

player, sticking to what you do. They had seven players who usually

:29:23.:29:26.

would be playing the first team I stop and the kids that came in that

:29:27.:29:32.

a good job and managed to get that at a tough place to go. It is a

:29:33.:29:36.

tough place to go. That is what makes it more exciting. Talk us

:29:37.:29:39.

through this next try. This is a classic Wigan try. Classic Wigan

:29:40.:29:45.

shape. Matty Smith, out back to Blake Green. Then the full black,

:29:46.:29:49.

which is usually Bowie, and Tompkins previously. A long ball to the

:29:50.:29:52.

winger, try in the corner. That was Josh Charnley when he scored a lot

:29:53.:29:56.

of tries. That was the reason, the shape set up to create numbers and

:29:57.:29:59.

space on the outside. And they have players who can take advantage of

:30:00.:30:02.

that. Gelling always seems to do well there. But he struggles to get

:30:03.:30:06.

a start. Week to week, that shows you their strength. But for Lee

:30:07.:30:09.

Radford, tries like this would be disappointing. Yeah, I think Lee

:30:10.:30:16.

will be really disappointed. Especially with the last two tries

:30:17.:30:19.

we had seen. I think there were three from dummy half and one from

:30:20.:30:23.

outside the 20 metre line. He will be disappointed with that. Do you

:30:24.:30:26.

look at their last two games? He said they were in a horrible rut,

:30:27.:30:28.

like a wounded animal. Or do you look at and think, no, the

:30:29.:30:34.

Hull Derby, it's just a completely different game? It is. It is a

:30:35.:30:37.

completely different ball game. We're not going to think much about

:30:38.:30:41.

how we'll been playing in last two weeks. I am sure they would like

:30:42.:30:45.

nothing more than to get a derby victory and hit a run of form in the

:30:46.:30:49.

next few games. We will not be looking at the past two weeks at

:30:50.:30:52.

all. When you are losing, you overanalyse things. And when you are

:30:53.:30:55.

winning, you tend to not analyse as much. You all want to be somewhere

:30:56.:30:59.

in the middle. That is where Leeds are trying to get to. Perfect timing

:31:00.:31:03.

to have the derby game coming up. We shall see if it is. It is perfect

:31:04.:31:05.

timing. There was only points difference

:31:06.:31:10.

separating Warrington and Catalan in the table before their meeting on

:31:11.:31:12.

Friday. The Dragons have been climbing up the ladder and were

:31:13.:31:15.

looking for a fifth straight victory. Dave Woods was watching.

:31:16.:31:18.

By both sides' high standards, it has been a disappointing season so

:31:19.:31:22.

far. Catalan showing some signs of improvement of late but still only

:31:23.:31:26.

one away win for them in the Super League. Warrington's nadir possibly

:31:27.:31:29.

coming last week when they were beaten at bottom club Bradford. They

:31:30.:31:37.

need consistency. Warrington looking to make the

:31:38.:31:44.

inroads if they can. Turn and off`load from England. Ratchford has

:31:45.:31:49.

the pace to go through. Chip over the top has them scampering. Ormesby

:31:50.:31:56.

collecting and still going. Michael Monaghan quickly there at dummy

:31:57.:32:03.

half. And there are so much space for Joel Monaghan. His 100th

:32:04.:32:09.

appearance for Warrington. And his 100th try in the primrose and blue.

:32:10.:32:13.

And when it came, it was a simple finish.

:32:14.:32:19.

The Catalan defence happy to watch and see. A big drive. Hill taking

:32:20.:32:38.

them close. He wanted to off`load, but had to keep hold. The ball has

:32:39.:32:45.

gone to ground. England claims it. The referee wants a second opinion.

:32:46.:32:49.

How did this get into the hands of Anthony England? The pass from

:32:50.:32:52.

Monaghan simply hit a Catalan player. This should be a try. It is

:32:53.:33:00.

a second try of the night for the Warrington Wolves. And the second in

:33:01.:33:01.

five minutes. A little flick away to keep this

:33:02.:33:20.

movement alive. Russell has the gold. And Joel Monaghan getting his

:33:21.:33:31.

second of the night. Try 101. And it was to reflect Warrington moved. ``

:33:32.:33:39.

it was a terrific Warrington moved. All started with the dynamism of

:33:40.:33:44.

Matthew Russell. With the off`load and the PAs and the invention to get

:33:45.:33:51.

on the outside of Duport. And fabulous support and moustache from

:33:52.:33:56.

Ormesby. And Joel Monaghan with a fantastic finish. They give high

:33:57.:34:04.

looking to scripted away from dummy half. `` Micky Higham. And a step,

:34:05.:34:21.

reach and try, the fourth of the first half from Warrington. Lovely

:34:22.:34:29.

playing from Stefan Ratchford, and Warrington looking good at

:34:30.:34:29.

half`time. A charge down here and back in the

:34:30.:34:41.

hands of Warrington. And Chris Bridge scampers away. They have been

:34:42.:34:50.

playing barely two minutes of their second`half and Warrington already

:34:51.:34:53.

back in the ascendancy. Catalan hoping to muster some fight back.

:34:54.:35:00.

This is not the way to go back. The kick from William Barthau easily

:35:01.:35:05.

charge down. And the chance for Bridge. The coaching staff looking

:35:06.:35:13.

on and a lot to worry about. And a terrific break, and it is making

:35:14.:35:19.

higher am going and only the sticks `` and it is Micky Higham and the

:35:20.:35:30.

biggest of grins, Warrington rampaging directory. Two tries in

:35:31.:35:34.

the second half and by many more to come? The latest from Micky Higham.

:35:35.:35:47.

Joel Monaghan has lost that, and the referee says it was stolen, so it

:35:48.:35:58.

will be a penalty. James Laithwaite pushes, or bug, did he get it down?

:35:59.:36:04.

Yes, James Laithwaite's first Warrington drive. He will be

:36:05.:36:08.

celebrating long and hard. Warrington with yet another. ``

:36:09.:36:16.

first Warrington try. A moment to remember for the young James

:36:17.:36:21.

Laithwaite, the night of his first try. Catalan doing well to get

:36:22.:36:30.

themselves there. Vincent Duport carrying it in both hands, and reach

:36:31.:36:36.

for the corner. It has been a long`time cunning of any kind of

:36:37.:36:40.

Catalan response. But they have done it in an eye`catching manner, the

:36:41.:36:47.

long price from Leon Pryce, Ormesby, and instantly brought `` and Vincent

:36:48.:36:51.

Duport scores. It has gone to ground, the referee

:36:52.:37:06.

says player on. Morgan Escare with a chip over the top, and a dive. He

:37:07.:37:12.

might just have a try here. A lot of questions to be answered. Knock on

:37:13.:37:24.

and grounding. It looks as though that went backwards, and what about

:37:25.:37:29.

the dive from Morgan Escare? No problems about that. So as

:37:30.:37:39.

sensational finish for the Catalan Dragons but it has only been at the

:37:40.:37:43.

very late stages of the game they have come alive. Warrington clear

:37:44.:37:45.

winners. The conundrum that is Warrington,

:37:46.:37:54.

red hot there, but quite bored at other games. Yes, some of that could

:37:55.:38:00.

be down to some experience lost last year. That could be an indicating

:38:01.:38:10.

factor of why the form has not been good as in recent years. Matty

:38:11.:38:15.

Russell is a new phase, and he has added a spark where Schumacher he

:38:16.:38:24.

has, he has. A couple of things to look at. And this book worked from

:38:25.:38:31.

Chris Hill, off`loading the ball. `` footwork.

:38:32.:38:36.

As they can get him into a position when he can flip the ball inside,

:38:37.:38:42.

and that is Warrington at their best. And quite a record for Joel

:38:43.:38:54.

Monaghan. Yes, he is a try man. He is a threat to catch the ball. He

:38:55.:39:02.

would be on every team's tick list. But for Catalan, it was a

:39:03.:39:04.

frustrating night. A game punctuated by errors. When

:39:05.:39:13.

you lose the ball and consistently turnover possession, you need to do

:39:14.:39:19.

too much defending. It can sap your energy. And when you get the ball,

:39:20.:39:26.

it has taken out so much, you do not have so much on the attack. Matty

:39:27.:39:31.

Russell is deceptively strong. A lot of people expect him to step, but he

:39:32.:39:37.

is a great player, and he creates great tries. It is not really a

:39:38.:39:43.

conundrum with Catalan, they are not great on the road. Yes, going over

:39:44.:39:53.

there creates challenges. Catalan need to improve their form away from

:39:54.:39:54.

home. Finally tonight let's check on Joe

:39:55.:40:02.

Grima's first match in charge of London. They were up against in`form

:40:03.:40:04.

Huddersfield, and signs of improvement in the capital? They

:40:05.:40:08.

went to half`time in the lead. He looked to start strong. You do

:40:09.:40:14.

wonder if they are playing week in, week out, when the win will come.

:40:15.:40:25.

And who will it be against? Yes. Playing back roses one of the

:40:26.:40:29.

dangerous bikes. It is very hard to handle. `` one of the dangerous

:40:30.:40:37.

strikes. The players getting going, some positive signs for London.

:40:38.:40:42.

Huddersfield would be disappointed, if they are honest, about how they

:40:43.:40:46.

played in this game, but London please. Paul Anderson was more

:40:47.:40:53.

positive than other games. He was pleased with their second`half,

:40:54.:40:56.

coming down and getting on with the job. Maybe getting carried away with

:40:57.:41:05.

the opposition. And maybe getting a short going into half`time behind.

:41:06.:41:11.

Maybe a few short words said in the dressing room from Paul Anderson and

:41:12.:41:15.

coming out a different team in the second half, looking to score a

:41:16.:41:20.

few, and they looked to be a different team in the second half.

:41:21.:41:23.

London looking better and better each week and if they can sort the

:41:24.:41:29.

fence, they will grab a win sooner or later. `` sought the de fence.

:41:30.:41:36.

The key thing is Danny Brough getting to top form. Huddersfield a

:41:37.:41:44.

good very direct. That seem to be the case in the second half against

:41:45.:41:46.

London. So four wins in a row for the

:41:47.:41:53.

Giants. Let's see the effect of that. And the rest of the results,

:41:54.:41:56.

on the First Utility Super League table. Wakefield have an 8`point gap

:41:57.:42:08.

between themselves and relegation places. We are off to Manchester for

:42:09.:42:14.

the Magic weekend. Top of the bill is Leeds against Wigan. And that is

:42:15.:42:20.

a Hull Derby. Coverage throughout the weekend on BBC Radio 5 Live

:42:21.:42:28.

Sports Extra. And The Super League Show has highlights of all seven

:42:29.:42:30.

games. All of two Manchester. Magic

:42:31.:42:47.

something you look forward to? It is, always a great occasion. A

:42:48.:42:53.

couple of great games for us, some tough decisions. Breaking into a

:42:54.:42:59.

tough sweat? Tell a macro some big decisions and I am sure there will

:43:00.:43:05.

be a great atmosphere this year. Do you think magic is growing on

:43:06.:43:12.

needs changing? It certainly has developed. The fans who go really

:43:13.:43:18.

enjoy it, seem to have a great time. When we are sweating out there. Next

:43:19.:43:25.

year is a real challenge. With the new structure coming in, it will be

:43:26.:43:29.

interesting to see where the Easter programme and magic is. There is a

:43:30.:43:34.

lot going on next year. We will have to see where magic is. As a player,

:43:35.:43:40.

I have grown to enjoy playing in big aims at a big stadium in

:43:41.:43:44.

Manchester, and a huge potential source for fans. Is it ought to have

:43:45.:43:51.

the Hull Derby in a neutral venue? You tend to be focused on what

:43:52.:43:56.

you're doing than fans screaming. But it is a great occasion. A lot of

:43:57.:44:03.

the fans get to see certain games they would not see. Some fans would

:44:04.:44:07.

not see a Hull Derby. A great occasion. We look forward to it.

:44:08.:44:13.

Good luck to the peer review. It is the first one I will go to. I am

:44:14.:44:18.

looking forward to it. `` good luck to both of you. That's it for this

:44:19.:44:22.

week, my thanks to Jon and Josh for joining us tonight. We will see you

:44:23.:44:26.

next week, when we will be in Manchester. Goodbye.
