Welcome to Budapest to day five of the world swimming Championships, | :00:35. | :00:41.
Team GB already have three gold medals in the bag and this evening | :00:42. | :00:44.
there are more opportunities to get on the podium. Only maximum effort | :00:45. | :00:52.
will do, Max Litchfield goes in the 200 metre individual medley. Duncan | :00:53. | :00:55.
Scott in the 100 meter freestyle final. Georgia Davies is in the hunt | :00:56. | :01:00.
for a medal in the 50 meter backstroke. And Ross Murdoch is | :01:01. | :01:05.
flying the flag for British breaststroke, can he be the boss? | :01:06. | :01:13.
First up we are going to see Max Litchfield in the 200 metre | :01:14. | :01:19.
individual medley, it is fair to say he was looking on form as he made | :01:20. | :01:24.
his way through the feats, smashing the British record and Commonwealth | :01:25. | :01:27.
record and this is him in the semifinal last night. | :01:28. | :01:31.
COMMENTATOR: Max Litchfield might be second or third, he is third come on | :01:32. | :01:46.
max Lichfield has to finish in the top three or four. Come on Max | :01:47. | :02:01.
Litchfield. He is going well, Hagino is leading. Max Litchfield second, | :02:02. | :02:11.
an excellent time just outside the Commonwealth record. Brilliant. | :02:12. | :02:16.
Another fantastic effort today you must be pleased? Yes, coming there | :02:17. | :02:29.
and doing the same time was fantastic. How pleased are you for | :02:30. | :02:33.
Max Litchfield because he almost seemed surprised with his times? So | :02:34. | :02:39.
nice to see people, he was one of those really hard for places at the | :02:40. | :02:44.
Olympic Games and he has rarely stepped up to the plate. Knocking a | :02:45. | :02:48.
second and a half of his personal best coming up to this event. It's | :02:49. | :02:55.
difficult going PB, PB, PB through the streets, semifinals and final, I | :02:56. | :02:58.
would love to see him break the British record tonight. The 400 | :02:59. | :03:03.
metres individual medley will be his best event later but this is looking | :03:04. | :03:09.
good, stroke is looking great, he will come back towards the end, | :03:10. | :03:14.
first or second is gone but he could get third. He is in a scrap for a | :03:15. | :03:18.
medal, good luck to him, let's see how he gets on in the 200 metre | :03:19. | :03:20.
individual medley. The new Commonwealth record holder | :03:21. | :03:31.
Max Litchfield but he is surrounded by the big boys. The Japanese are | :03:32. | :03:34.
very quick as well. A real changing of the guard here | :03:35. | :03:49.
because America represented by this man, the first time we have not been | :03:50. | :03:55.
calling the two big boys. That's right, Michael Phelps winning three | :03:56. | :03:59.
times and after him we saw Ryan Lochte winning four times in a row, | :04:00. | :04:05.
not since 2001 has anyone since those big superstars won the event. | :04:06. | :04:15.
Do not count out the German, they have hardly turned up here, it's | :04:16. | :04:24.
been quite extraordinary. Heintz is number one in the world, Germany | :04:25. | :04:28.
have had a terrible meet, they really need him to try and pick up | :04:29. | :04:34.
the middle. Max Litchfield has had to Maxi Pereira swims so far -- has | :04:35. | :04:44.
had two smashing swims so far. World Championship final, men's 200 | :04:45. | :04:59.
metre medley, Max Litchfield in free. -- three. The pink suit of Max | :05:00. | :05:14.
Litchfield of Great Britain, Hagino and five, Kalisz goes well, normally | :05:15. | :05:29.
Hagino goes well. Setting the early pace, Hagino, going really well. Out | :05:30. | :05:35.
under world-record pace and that was said by Ryan Lochte. Hagino was the | :05:36. | :05:47.
first to turn second was Wang. The pink suit in three of Max Litchfield | :05:48. | :05:52.
starts coming through, looking pretty good, this is the halfway | :05:53. | :05:57.
turn. Max Litchfield is going to turn second, would be great if he | :05:58. | :06:02.
could keep this going. It is great to see, he's had a strong turn. This | :06:03. | :06:07.
is where he's got to work to the stroke, some of these guys including | :06:08. | :06:13.
Kalisz and Hagino are really strong freestylers as is Max Litchfield but | :06:14. | :06:16.
I do not want to see him losing too much ground. The breaststroke of Max | :06:17. | :06:22.
Litchfield perhaps not as strong as the rest of the field. Kalisz has | :06:23. | :06:32.
overtaken Hagino, this is going to be a fantastic scrap. Kalisz first, | :06:33. | :06:41.
Hagino second, Seto third. Needs to focus on Seto, Kalisz good win his | :06:42. | :06:47.
first individual honour but Hagino closing in. Looks like Kalisz hazard | :06:48. | :06:56.
at the moment, Hagino, Max Litchfield is charging, it's going | :06:57. | :07:00.
to be very tight for bronze, gold goes to the USA, Kalisz, silver goes | :07:01. | :07:08.
to Hagino of Japan and the bronze I can tell you has gone to the Olympic | :07:09. | :07:16.
bronze medallist of China Wang. Great Britain is Max Litchfield in | :07:17. | :07:19.
fourth, just outside the medals. Good swim however. What a lot of | :07:20. | :07:27.
pressure on his shoulders, Kalisz, seven times previously the Americans | :07:28. | :07:32.
have run this event, Michael Phelps calls him his little brother, they | :07:33. | :07:38.
have trained together in Baltimore. He had to be focused. Really well | :07:39. | :07:51.
off the blocks. They are so good, they always have been, the | :07:52. | :07:56.
Americans, around the walls. If you can get ahead on the scales all the | :07:57. | :07:59.
way through the event of the swimming takes care of itself. | :08:00. | :08:05.
Look at that. Gold! Very good indeed. Confirmation of the results. | :08:06. | :08:30.
So close for Max Litchfield, really thought he was going to sneak a | :08:31. | :08:36.
medal, how frustrating is that? We were screaming our heads off, it was | :08:37. | :08:41.
so close but even if he swam the British record he would still have | :08:42. | :08:45.
finished fourth so I think he will be fine with that, his main event is | :08:46. | :08:50.
still to come, he is better at the 400 medley and hopefully he will put | :08:51. | :08:55.
in a great performance. It is three good solid swims. Coming here he | :08:56. | :08:58.
would have just been trying to make the final, he had a good shot, it | :08:59. | :09:06.
was Wang spoiling the party, tiny bit unfortunate but three great | :09:07. | :09:11.
swims, very happy. The last 205I was a bit confused because you were both | :09:12. | :09:18.
screaming -- the last 25 I was a bit confused. He has a really good | :09:19. | :09:25.
freestyle leg, butterfly and breaststroke are probably his | :09:26. | :09:32.
weakest. I think they are things he will take away and work with now, | :09:33. | :09:35.
they keep talking about the fact they are on this plan to Tokyo and | :09:36. | :09:40.
what a great start, fourth last year at the Olympics, I think he is | :09:41. | :09:45.
definitely one to watch for Tokyo. A lot of improvements he can make, we | :09:46. | :09:50.
watch swimming all day and you could see a relaxed swimmer and a relaxed | :09:51. | :09:55.
technique, his technique is a bit stiff, I think he can work on his | :09:56. | :10:00.
flexibility. The timing on seemed completely out which is good as that | :10:01. | :10:05.
is something he can work on. He's playing catch up. Let's hear from | :10:06. | :10:16.
him. He's which Arron Davies. -- he's which Arron Davies. | :10:17. | :10:20.
Horrible position that one. That's where we came last year and it's | :10:21. | :10:27.
there again, coming into this event, coming forth I would not have | :10:28. | :10:32.
thought that coming in here. Three times, cannot really complain. Just | :10:33. | :10:37.
look like you ran out of water which is promising for the 400. Yes, we | :10:38. | :10:45.
always battled to be strong. Happy with that time. Slower than I have | :10:46. | :10:51.
been the last couple days but cannot be disappointed with that. Which of | :10:52. | :10:55.
the 3-D fancy catching up with later? All of them! Brilliant | :10:56. | :11:00.
answer. Thank you. Commiserations to Max Litchfield, | :11:01. | :11:11.
next up the women's 100 metre freestyle semifinal featuring Freya | :11:12. | :11:18.
Anderson, she is only 16 so this is all about experience, one lady with | :11:19. | :11:21.
a lot of experience is Bronte Campbell. What sort of form they | :11:22. | :11:27.
think you are in bearing in mind the injuries and downtime after Rio? | :11:28. | :11:34.
It's hard to pick, I don't really know, I normally have a pretty good | :11:35. | :11:39.
idea of what I am capable of but I couldn't give a prediction, which is | :11:40. | :11:46.
exciting when it is a blank slate you just go and see which you can | :11:47. | :11:50.
do. There probably should be pressure but I don't feel any | :11:51. | :11:54.
pressure, it's more just trying to see exactly what I can give. Time | :11:55. | :12:01.
for the women's 100 metre freestyle semifinals. | :12:02. | :12:07.
COMMENTATOR: What a semifinal this is, Olympic gold medals in three, | :12:08. | :12:22.
four, five and six. Won the 50 and the 100 in London. Next to her, the | :12:23. | :12:30.
Olympic champion from Rio, watch them go very fast indeed, I say out | :12:31. | :12:35.
next, it's actually the Olympic champion on the 100 metre freestyle | :12:36. | :12:42.
from Rio, 16 then, 17 now, Bronte Campbell in six. In lane one Freya | :12:43. | :12:47.
Anderson of Great Britain. Here is the Olympic champion from the 50 | :12:48. | :12:51.
freestyle in Rio, this is going to be so quick. Blume sent a Danish | :12:52. | :13:01.
record this morning, she was really fast and as you would expect from | :13:02. | :13:06.
the Olympic 50 metres freestyle champion. The Canadian Oleksiak just | :13:07. | :13:13.
has not been at the races this year, I don't think training has gone | :13:14. | :13:17.
well. So many people to talk about, Bronte Campbell is faster this year | :13:18. | :13:19.
and she was last year. The fastest woman in water in the | :13:20. | :13:41.
world last year, Blume. Right at the top, Anderson, the 16-year-old | :13:42. | :13:46.
British swimmer. Fourth fastest British swimmer now in the 100 free. | :13:47. | :13:58.
The first semifinal, the big guns in three, four, five and six. Keep a | :13:59. | :14:03.
lookout for Freya Anderson 16-year-old at the top for Great | :14:04. | :14:07.
Britain. It would be great to see her do it here, Freya I know she is | :14:08. | :14:13.
focusing more on the worlds, the world Juniors but how would it be | :14:14. | :14:18.
for her to have a good swim here? Look at the pace from Blume, she has | :14:19. | :14:25.
that easy speed but she's not having it all her own way here. Looking | :14:26. | :14:33.
very good, still going well is the Olympic champion from London 2012 in | :14:34. | :14:39.
lane three, maybe just coming through now, Bronte Campbell of | :14:40. | :14:43.
Australia. It's going to be very tight, it is very tight. Not quite | :14:44. | :14:49.
as fast as I thought it might be I have to say. Bronte Campbell second. | :14:50. | :15:00.
Oleksiak third, Kromowidjojo fourth. Great news for Freya Anderson, she | :15:01. | :15:06.
finished sixth but hard first time ever under 54 seconds which is | :15:07. | :15:11.
outstanding. That bodes well for the world juniors later this month. | :15:12. | :15:18.
Absolutely loaded semifinal that was. Some big guns and she was up | :15:19. | :15:27.
against. Not sure what Blume did on the turn but she lost a couple of | :15:28. | :15:33.
metres, it was a dogfight coming down the back 25. Bronte Campbell | :15:34. | :15:40.
did not quite spot a finish. And that's only the first semifinal! We | :15:41. | :15:45.
have another to go and it's going to be very competitive tomorrow night. | :15:46. | :15:50.
It certainly is because in that one we have the new world-record holder | :15:51. | :15:52.
and the new Olympic champion. Very good indeed by Freya Anderson. | :15:53. | :16:10.
And there is the second semifinal and the new world record holder, | :16:11. | :16:14.
Sarah Sjostrom, those in four. Olympic champion is in lane five, | :16:15. | :16:23.
Simone Manuel. Sharron Davies caught up with Sarah Sjostrom earlier this | :16:24. | :16:30.
week. Sarah Sjostrom, the defending | :16:31. | :16:33.
champion and world record-holder, she is absolutely on fire. This lady | :16:34. | :16:38.
has been winning medals at world level since was 15. Gold again and | :16:39. | :16:42.
Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden gets the gold. The first few days were really | :16:43. | :16:49.
good and I am really happy with the world record and the gold medal. | :16:50. | :16:53.
Have you been working much more on your freestyle Daniel butterfly? | :16:54. | :16:58.
Yes, I decided to work on my technique to become a better | :16:59. | :17:03.
sprinter. It worked out pretty well. You have been around at this level | :17:04. | :17:08.
for a long time because you started so young. Eight years ago I first | :17:09. | :17:13.
got a gold medal in the World Championships and yesterday was my | :17:14. | :17:17.
fourth gold medal in the 100 fly. I am happy about that. What takes you | :17:18. | :17:24.
so inspired? I love being an athlete and it is more fun now than when I | :17:25. | :17:30.
was 15. I am enjoying being a swimmer more than ever. And I am | :17:31. | :17:35.
doing really well, but it is also the life outside competing and all | :17:36. | :17:41.
these things that I really enjoy. After athletes do track and field | :17:42. | :17:49.
they go up in distance and here you go down. We have to train more, we | :17:50. | :17:56.
have to train for two hours, but we still only swim for 25 seconds, so | :17:57. | :18:00.
it is a lot of training for the amount of racing we do. More medals | :18:01. | :18:06.
this week? We will see. I have been very close to a world record in the | :18:07. | :18:13.
50 metres. If I do a fast start and if I am still fresh at the end of | :18:14. | :18:17.
the week, I am sure I can be close to the world record. There she is. | :18:18. | :18:33.
51 put 71 -- 51.70 one. She is the new world-record holder and she has | :18:34. | :18:38.
already won gold in the 100 fly. Who is to say she will not break this | :18:39. | :18:46.
world record again? Right next to her is the Olympic champion. | :18:47. | :18:53.
The second semifinal of the women's 100 metres freestyle. All eyes will | :18:54. | :18:59.
be on Sarah Sjostrom. Steve, what are you expecting? She pulled out of | :19:00. | :19:06.
the 200 metres freestyle where she is the Olympic silver medallist to | :19:07. | :19:10.
concentrate on these sprint events and it is paying off. She is at the | :19:11. | :19:15.
head of the race already. She did not have the best start. I think she | :19:16. | :19:21.
might be taking it quite easy. She is half a second down on the speed | :19:22. | :19:26.
she did two days ago. It must be nice to go like that, but it looks | :19:27. | :19:31.
like she is working pretty hard, the yellow hat in the centre. To the | :19:32. | :19:35.
left of her is Simone Manuel, wonderful to see her get gold at the | :19:36. | :19:40.
Olympic games. But it looks like Sarah Sjostrom. It is just outside | :19:41. | :19:46.
the world record. A much quicker second semifinal. Sarah Sjostrom | :19:47. | :19:52.
wins it. The Olympic champion is second. Mallory Comerford is the new | :19:53. | :20:02.
American record-holder. She is third. Emma Mckeon had a good race. | :20:03. | :20:14.
That seconds semifinal was fast. Until this year America had not had | :20:15. | :20:19.
anyone who had broken 53 seconds, but they are clearly doing it now. A | :20:20. | :20:25.
great start from Manuel, the Olympic champion. I think Sarah Sjostrom was | :20:26. | :20:38.
taking it a little bit easier, Andy. Why waste the energy when you can | :20:39. | :20:41.
still swim within yourself and still qualify. I ask myself that every | :20:42. | :20:47.
time I see Katinka Hosszu swim, but she just for it. Comfortable, easy, | :20:48. | :20:55.
Sarah Sjostrom wins the second semifinal. It looked pedestrian. | :20:56. | :21:08.
Let's have a look at the qualifiers. Emma Mckeon is in aid. Look at the | :21:09. | :21:19.
cut-off. Freya Anderson is talking to Sharron Davies. A fantastic sub | :21:20. | :21:25.
54, you must be pleased with that time. Yes, I am. I had been wanting | :21:26. | :21:34.
to dip under for a while and it is good to go under. It must give you | :21:35. | :21:38.
confidence going into the world Juniors later in the year. Yes, | :21:39. | :21:44.
definitely. It is the first time we have made. Nowadays everybody is | :21:45. | :21:51.
very told. I think being taller would help, that a lot of things | :21:52. | :21:58.
like my size help, but I have got things to work on. Great to see you | :21:59. | :22:03.
here and great that you have got things to work on because it means | :22:04. | :22:11.
faster times. Thank you. A fantastic swimmer from Freya Anderson, another | :22:12. | :22:14.
PB for her, but no place in the final unfortunately. Let's hear from | :22:15. | :22:21.
Duncan 's got ahead of his final. This is a great opportunity and a | :22:22. | :22:26.
great chance. Most years after the Olympics are slightly slower some | :22:27. | :22:31.
would say and you can back that up as well. But with the times I have | :22:32. | :22:36.
been doing this year I do not think Budapest will be that much slower to | :22:37. | :22:41.
be honest. It is another great chance to race internationally and I | :22:42. | :22:44.
have only raised internationally once at the Olympics. For me it is | :22:45. | :22:53.
still relatively new. I have the 200 freestyle as well and the 100 free | :22:54. | :22:56.
and I am looking forward to them. There are chances in both events. | :22:57. | :23:01.
Yes, I am looking forward to going out and racing. I'm don't want to be | :23:02. | :23:07.
the best in the world, I want to win a medal in the championships. To be | :23:08. | :23:17.
the best in the world in March, nobody really knows who you are or | :23:18. | :23:21.
nobody cares. It is all about winning medals at Championships and | :23:22. | :23:25.
doing fast Times at major championships and doing what you | :23:26. | :23:33.
want to do at major championships. And Duncan Scott is in lane seven. | :23:34. | :23:40.
Probably a good lane for him outside the action expected in the centre. | :23:41. | :23:51.
Steve, look at the size of his legs! He has been doing some leg presses. | :23:52. | :24:01.
Absolutely massive. But the Frenchman is better known for his | :24:02. | :24:04.
butterfly and he has turned his hand to the freestyle. He is not going to | :24:05. | :24:19.
have it all his own way. Caleb Dressell is fast at the start. He | :24:20. | :24:25.
cleared up this year posting ridiculous times that people do not | :24:26. | :24:31.
think possible. There is another guy, Nathan Adrian, Olympic | :24:32. | :24:34.
champion, he will fancy this as well. Duncan Scott will be one lane | :24:35. | :24:48.
from the bottom of the screen. The start of Caleb Dressell have been | :24:49. | :24:49.
just phenomenal. The final of the men's 100 metres | :24:50. | :25:07.
freestyle. Look at the start from Caleb Dressell. You said he would be | :25:08. | :25:12.
good, Steve, but I did not think it would be that good. That should not | :25:13. | :25:17.
be physically possible. These are the fastest sprinters in the world. | :25:18. | :25:23.
Down from him McEvoy has done the second fastest time in the world | :25:24. | :25:28.
ever. He is the model of efficiency, the Australian looking good. Duncan | :25:29. | :25:32.
Scott is doing well. He is a quarter of a second faster than he was to | :25:33. | :25:38.
break the British record. In the centre it is Caleb Dressell and | :25:39. | :25:43.
Metella is coming back. Now Caleb Dressell goes to the straight arm | :25:44. | :25:47.
stroke and he is pulling away. Look at that. That is an outstanding | :25:48. | :25:53.
swim. Oh, my goodness me, I did not think he would go that quick. It is | :25:54. | :26:03.
a new American record. He has won by about seven tenths of a second. It | :26:04. | :26:08.
is gold and silver to the USA. Gold medal to Caleb Dressell and silver | :26:09. | :26:14.
to Nathan Adrian. Metella gets the bronze for France. Duncan Scott was | :26:15. | :26:22.
fifth. It was so close. I am finding it hard to get my head around how | :26:23. | :26:28.
good his skills are. There is no weight Caleb Dressell is the fastest | :26:29. | :26:32.
swimmer, but he destroyed them on the start and at the turn as well. | :26:33. | :26:40.
He is away so well of those blocks. It is his underwater work that gets | :26:41. | :26:46.
him out ahead. There is no doubt he is a fast swimmer, Andy, but he | :26:47. | :26:51.
makes about half a yard coming off that turn. His butterfly leg kick is | :26:52. | :26:57.
so strong underwater in that streamlined position that it just | :26:58. | :27:00.
propels him forward. It meant so much to him as well. World champion. | :27:01. | :27:12.
Bash! And Nathan Adrian and it is gold and silver to the USA. Metella | :27:13. | :27:19.
gets the bronze. Seven tenths of a second for victory, that is massive. | :27:20. | :27:35.
That is amazing. Hard lines for Duncan Scott. Full | :27:36. | :27:40.
credit for his attitude. Coming into this he said he was not complacent. | :27:41. | :27:47.
Where was that one? The start. Use Caleb Dressell before the race and | :27:48. | :27:51.
he did jump up and he is a bit like Zebedee. In all the races he | :27:52. | :27:55.
destroys people. The only person I have seen get near him is Ben Brown. | :27:56. | :28:02.
Duncan Scott is with Sharron now. You mentioned earlier that this is | :28:03. | :28:05.
only your second senior international. You have been in | :28:06. | :28:10.
great spirits. I know you are disappointed because it is not as | :28:11. | :28:13.
fast as you can go, but very consistent. Yes, definitely. I was | :28:14. | :28:22.
not producing the best time I can do in a final, but that is the way it | :28:23. | :28:27.
is. I do not know what the splits were. It is another good opportunity | :28:28. | :28:33.
and experience and I hope I can go on in the future. We have got the | :28:34. | :28:40.
200 and men's relay and we are excited about that. That is | :28:41. | :28:44.
tomorrow, a new day and James showed more reform in that 100 fly and that | :28:45. | :28:49.
is nice to see. We have got some of the boys who have not swum yet and | :28:50. | :28:53.
they will be fresh and they will be good and I am looking forward to it. | :28:54. | :29:00.
Understandably disappointed. You look at his times and he posted the | :29:01. | :29:08.
fastest 100 in the world. But it is hard to remember he is very new on | :29:09. | :29:13.
this big international scene. And he is only 20 years of age. But we said | :29:14. | :29:18.
before the race that he is very slight. I feel like I need to give | :29:19. | :29:24.
him a burger or something. We have seen it happen with Adam Peaty and | :29:25. | :29:28.
then proud where all of a sudden they become these beasts and their | :29:29. | :29:33.
physique changes and I feel like that will happen with Duncan. He | :29:34. | :29:39.
will always be slight. Sprinting middle-distance is a different build | :29:40. | :29:44.
and a different make up. And you look at Caleb Dressell and Metella | :29:45. | :29:48.
and they are big men and it was almost like a boy against big men. | :29:49. | :29:52.
That is not to say you cannot compete. He has made huge | :29:53. | :29:56.
improvements. He has acknowledged the fact that he is slight and | :29:57. | :30:02.
McEvoy is slight. Do you need to be bulky? You need more strength. I am | :30:03. | :30:06.
not saying you need to be bulky. With bulk it creates more resistance | :30:07. | :30:13.
and it is a lot more streamlined. That comes with age as well. He is | :30:14. | :30:19.
only 20 and his power and weight ratio is amazing already otherwise | :30:20. | :30:23.
he would not be in that field. He will naturally get stronger as he | :30:24. | :30:28.
gets older anyway. You cannot question the strength of Adam Peaty. | :30:29. | :30:33.
He has done the double double and Mark Foster and Stephen Parry have | :30:34. | :30:35.
been looking back at his achievements. | :30:36. | :30:43.
World champion, two very special words. Two words every champion | :30:44. | :30:53.
wants to hear after learning. A lifetime of training. Very few make | :30:54. | :30:59.
it. But every now and then someone very special comes along. Someone | :31:00. | :31:03.
who pushes harder and breaks new ground. At 20 Adam Peaty became a | :31:04. | :31:11.
world champion. Adam Peaty has got it on the very last stroke. For most | :31:12. | :31:17.
that is the dream. Adam Peaty is not like the most. He took it in his | :31:18. | :31:25.
stride as if he knew he was always destined for the mantle. And one was | :31:26. | :31:31.
not enough. Adam Peaty has his second gold medal. Double world | :31:32. | :31:40.
champion at 20 years old. Hungry for more he occupied himself with the | :31:41. | :31:44.
pursuit of more medals. Olympic gold for Great Britain. Fast forward to | :31:45. | :31:54.
Budapest, a city rich in history. Adam Peaty has destroyed the rest of | :31:55. | :32:01.
the world. World title number three, the best in the world by some | :32:02. | :32:06.
distance. Distance and time. Not just the best in the world now but | :32:07. | :32:14.
the best in the world ever. There goes project 25! That is phenomenal! | :32:15. | :32:21.
After dominance. Like a lion hunting its prey. Adam Peaty is relentless. | :32:22. | :32:31.
Onto the next one. And history beckons. This is quite amazing, | :32:32. | :32:36.
brilliant breaststroke swimming. He's done the double double. World | :32:37. | :32:45.
champion, two very special words. The double bubble and outstanding | :32:46. | :32:46.
achievement. Clearly impressed but here is the | :32:47. | :32:57.
head of the fan club. To be here at this time means the world to me. | :32:58. | :33:04.
It's very touching. I could not go and see him in Rio but this has made | :33:05. | :33:11.
up for everything. I am so, so pleased I have come. 20 years since | :33:12. | :33:17.
I have flown but it was worth it. That is of course Adam Peaty is Nan | :33:18. | :33:29.
and she went to everybody's hearts last year after becoming a Twitter | :33:30. | :33:35.
celebrity. The American national anthem playing out to celebrate the | :33:36. | :33:41.
winner of the men's 200 metre individual medal. No medal for | :33:42. | :33:45.
Britain's Max Litchfield then but he will be in the pull later on. Now an | :33:46. | :33:51.
opportunity for one of our girls to get on the podium, we'll be talking | :33:52. | :34:01.
about Georgia Davies in second but a word on Nana, you love her don't | :34:02. | :34:06.
you? Absolutely, and this is what makes athletes normal, Adam Peaty is | :34:07. | :34:10.
just a boy from Uttoxeter that loves to swim. He used to be frightened of | :34:11. | :34:15.
the water but with his family and coach he has become a legend of the | :34:16. | :34:22.
sport. I love his Nan because last year at Rio she was filming with his | :34:23. | :34:27.
iPad and I said to not worry, we will send you the footage. They are | :34:28. | :34:34.
so proud of him, he is such a family boy and so humble. We saw Nana on | :34:35. | :34:40.
the plane, she was so excited. I think that is why we are so proud of | :34:41. | :34:47.
our British boys in the British team, you could see the same about | :34:48. | :34:53.
Ben Proud, you can see what a nice young man. You see the human side of | :34:54. | :34:57.
it, we've mentioned it a lot, but the family play a huge part. It's | :34:58. | :35:02.
nice for them to come and watch because they are part of the journey | :35:03. | :35:06.
and it is these special memories, you go and do stuff and you are in | :35:07. | :35:11.
another place. Right here right now we are team Georgia Davies, ready to | :35:12. | :35:15.
go in the women's 50 metres backstroke final. Let's hear from | :35:16. | :35:25.
her. Rio had ups and downs for me, as a team literally the most | :35:26. | :35:29.
fantastic team to be part of, to come away with the PB at an Olympic | :35:30. | :35:34.
Games which I am told only a small percentage of people do, I was | :35:35. | :35:39.
really pleased. It showed me my training has been paying off. I have | :35:40. | :35:45.
kind of clicked how I want to swim my race and pacing and things like | :35:46. | :35:49.
that have come together which is exciting. Doing lifetime best times | :35:50. | :35:55.
and I am really loving what I do, travel the world with cool people. | :35:56. | :36:03.
It certainly seems like she is enjoying herself in Budapest, this | :36:04. | :36:04.
is her semifinal from last night. COMMENTATOR: Georgia Davies of Great | :36:05. | :36:21.
Britain. One length backstroke. Only six tenths of seconds split in this | :36:22. | :36:25.
entire field after the heat this morning, Georgia Davies started | :36:26. | :36:30.
quite slowly, relatively, really came through in the second half, | :36:31. | :36:35.
looks good, needs to have a good last ten here, Georgia Davies and | :36:36. | :36:39.
the Black Hat, going well, needs a good touch and she has got one. She | :36:40. | :36:46.
has won. That is very, very good indeed, just outside the | :36:47. | :36:49.
Commonwealth record. Another British record for her. It was nice to be | :36:50. | :36:55.
able to come back a few days after a little bit of disappointment and | :36:56. | :37:00.
turn things around. It's a personal best time which I have not done | :37:01. | :37:05.
since Glasgow. I have kind of wanted a best time for a while now and I am | :37:06. | :37:09.
pleased to get it here. You mentioned after the 100 you still | :37:10. | :37:16.
love the 50, it's a lot of fast arms going and you took the scalp of a | :37:17. | :37:20.
number of girls known for their fast 50s. Yeah, the depth here is | :37:21. | :37:26.
incredible, I knew especially being in the first semifinal you cannot | :37:27. | :37:30.
leave anything behind because especially after the 100 when the | :37:31. | :37:35.
second semifinal was so fast and I missed out, I just wanted to go as | :37:36. | :37:39.
fast as I could tonight and hopefully get myself a place in the | :37:40. | :37:47.
final. We'll be keeping our fingers good luck. | :37:48. | :37:51.
In her individual event she is faster than ever but particularly | :37:52. | :37:57.
over this distance does it present an opportunity to get among the | :37:58. | :38:07.
medals? I think absolutely, I think she has a good shout of getting | :38:08. | :38:12.
third,, when it comes to them, if she can get her stuff right she has | :38:13. | :38:19.
a chance of getting third. You always see the 50 is a lottery. It | :38:20. | :38:25.
is a splash and dash, either tactics involved? Just go as fast as you | :38:26. | :38:32.
can. Anything can happen so best of luck. Best of luck indeed, Georgia | :38:33. | :38:36.
Davies in the women's 50 metres backstroke. | :38:37. | :38:43.
She goes in lane six, the fastest two in four and five, hard to see | :38:44. | :38:54.
past Medeiros and Fu and I think the bronze will be between baker and | :38:55. | :39:03.
Davies. I agree, I think gold and silver have gone but Georgia Davies | :39:04. | :39:07.
could back up the Commonwealth Games gold medal of three years ago with a | :39:08. | :39:14.
major honours year. A couple one hundredths of a second separating | :39:15. | :39:24.
the times. One other item, cut the 27 barrier here, could the world be | :39:25. | :39:26.
under threat? Georgia Davies three from the bottom | :39:27. | :39:41.
in the black hat of Great Britain. In the heats and semifinals she | :39:42. | :39:46.
started well, build it through, in the centre it is the powerhouses in | :39:47. | :39:51.
four and five, Medeiros and Fu, Medeiros with a very good start for | :39:52. | :39:56.
Brazil, it's extraordinarily good from Medeiros, she is going well but | :39:57. | :40:01.
really close in five, Fu coming through, Georgia Davies needs to do | :40:02. | :40:06.
a bit of work to get a medal, it is tight, looks like it might be | :40:07. | :40:12.
Medeiros, one 100th of a second, Brazil gets gold, the first of the | :40:13. | :40:17.
championships by one 100th of a second, Fu of China the second and | :40:18. | :40:25.
in lane one Herasimenia get bronze, did not see that coming at all. | :40:26. | :40:30.
Georgia Davies a little of her best, finishes eighth. I think Georgia | :40:31. | :40:37.
Davies will be gutted with that, going in as she was, fourth, coming | :40:38. | :40:41.
out eighth, a couple of tenths of a second down on where she was last | :40:42. | :40:46.
night. Medeiros breaking the dominance China have hard over this | :40:47. | :40:51.
event, they have won three of the last four, what a meet the | :40:52. | :40:54.
Brazilians are having over 50 metres. Look at that finish, for all | :40:55. | :41:00.
your life looks like Fu but Medeiros must've just put enough pressure on | :41:01. | :41:05.
the pad earlier. She has got some guns, I would not mind those! It did | :41:06. | :41:15.
look like the Chinese woman's arm went first but the stretch of the | :41:16. | :41:17.
Brazilian, Medeiros gets gold. Commiserations to Georgia Davies, | :41:18. | :41:30.
understandably she will be disappointed, coming into this in | :41:31. | :41:33.
the individual events she has been going really well, could the relay | :41:34. | :41:38.
last night have had an effect? She put the blame on herself last night | :41:39. | :41:42.
for the next medley that if she had gone have a second quicker but if | :41:43. | :41:45.
they had all gone quicker they could have done it. You done live it | :41:46. | :41:51.
affected her confidence. It's not 1 million miles of what she did last | :41:52. | :41:55.
night but over 50 metres it's huge. Let's hear from her now. | :41:56. | :42:00.
It's about making every single element work in the 50 and to me it | :42:01. | :42:05.
looked like the start wasn't quite right. Definitely that is true, | :42:06. | :42:11.
everything has to be spot on because there is no room for error, the race | :42:12. | :42:16.
is over in a blink. I will have to watch it back because I cannot see, | :42:17. | :42:22.
when I'm doing the race all I know is it felt good but obviously the | :42:23. | :42:28.
time did not reflect that. Eighth in the world, not the worst result ever | :42:29. | :42:37.
but I know I am capable of more. The Commonwealth 's next year, great | :42:38. | :42:41.
track record and this was almost an Olympic event, how disappointed I | :42:42. | :42:45.
view it did not make the programme? Very disappointed, I love the 50 and | :42:46. | :42:50.
I definitely think for spectators as well they are interesting to watch | :42:51. | :42:54.
because it's always so close, you never know who's going to win. If | :42:55. | :42:59.
you get one little thing wrong it can be anybody's race. So I think | :43:00. | :43:04.
it's a shame they have not been put in but maybe next time. | :43:05. | :43:09.
The really is no margin for error in the 50, commiserations Georgia | :43:10. | :43:16.
Davies, let's turn our attention to the men's 200 metres breast stroke, | :43:17. | :43:23.
can Ross be the boss? What is it about breaststroke at the moment? I | :43:24. | :43:28.
have no idea, I picked a good time to start coming in at it. There is | :43:29. | :43:33.
so much depth now, it's getting so tough. We are seeing people make | :43:34. | :43:37.
teams and then miss out on the last couple of years. Just because there | :43:38. | :43:42.
are so many people, if you're having a bad day somebody immediately fills | :43:43. | :43:46.
the gap. There is no room for error in breaststroke in Britain any more. | :43:47. | :43:52.
You have to be on your best. How important is this year to you? There | :43:53. | :43:58.
to say last year was a bit of a roller-coaster. Last year was a | :43:59. | :44:01.
weird one, did not have a great trials and then an amazing European | :44:02. | :44:05.
Championships and then not a great Olympic games so it was a | :44:06. | :44:10.
roller-coaster. It left me in quite a bad place after Rio and it took a | :44:11. | :44:13.
long time to recover mentally from that. I am happy I made the World | :44:14. | :44:18.
Championships, it was important to make the first senior team so I it's | :44:19. | :44:22.
good I started the cycle the way I wanted. | :44:23. | :44:26.
COMMENTATOR: On his day Ross Murdoch is absolutely brilliant, the fastest | :44:27. | :44:34.
qualifier in this one, look out for the Olympic champion in two, and | :44:35. | :44:40.
lane seven. The Russian in lane one Koseki is | :44:41. | :45:12.
ranked number two in the world. On the Balandin, Kazakhstan have never | :45:13. | :45:21.
won a medal at the Olympics. Pulls out a win at the Olympics, amazing. | :45:22. | :45:26.
This is a really great event this year in the men's two and metres | :45:27. | :45:32.
breaststroke, they are all bunching around the 2.0 eight, mark putting | :45:33. | :45:36.
pressure on the world-record that has already gone this year. Only 18 | :45:37. | :45:45.
years of age, and he's a big unit as well, Qin, very tall which is | :45:46. | :45:49.
unusual for a breast stroke swimmer. I like the look of Ross Murdoch and | :45:50. | :45:55.
I like his comb over, got himself ready to look good! He disappeared | :45:56. | :45:59.
for a couple of years after he shook Michael Jamieson in Glasgow in 2014, | :46:00. | :46:06.
but then could not make the team in 2015 or 2016 in the event and for me | :46:07. | :46:11.
it was a big shock. There are years. He looked great this morning. | :46:12. | :46:18.
It is a very different stroke, the 100 of Adam Peaty and this stroke. | :46:19. | :46:29.
An ex-Olympic champion said Adam Peaty had invented a new stroke. It | :46:30. | :46:34.
does not look like breaststroke, it looks like submerged butterfly | :46:35. | :46:38.
recovery. You will see them really stretching out on this 200 metres | :46:39. | :46:42.
breaststroke. I thought they would be away by now, but Ross Murdoch is | :46:43. | :46:48.
taking his time. He must be applying some fake tan! Ross Murdoch from | :46:49. | :46:56.
Scotland. The first semifinal of this men's 200 metres breaststroke. | :46:57. | :47:04.
The Commonwealth champion is the fastest seed for this semifinal. The | :47:05. | :47:09.
Olympic champion will be one length at the top of your picture up in | :47:10. | :47:20.
lane two. That is Koseki. It was Qin of China. Lots of controversy about | :47:21. | :47:27.
these underwater strokes on the breaststroke. They are allowed one | :47:28. | :47:31.
butterfly kick underwater. There was a little bit of an undulation | :47:32. | :47:35.
motion, but this seems to be all sorts of problems with it at the | :47:36. | :47:40.
moment. I think they are all doing too many butterfly kicks underwater. | :47:41. | :47:46.
You can see it in the sprint events. Koseki looks great. He is under | :47:47. | :47:53.
world record pace by four tenths of a second. Ross Murdoch is nicely | :47:54. | :47:58.
position. This morning he really worked his way into it. If the | :47:59. | :48:02.
Japanese get it right, they could very well go one, two. They could in | :48:03. | :48:08.
the final because in the second heat is the world record holder. But this | :48:09. | :48:17.
is the first semifinal. Koseki of Japan looking very good. One lane up | :48:18. | :48:22.
from him is Matthew Wilson of Australia, the 18-year-old. Ross | :48:23. | :48:26.
Murdoch is a third of a second behind at the halfway turn. That is | :48:27. | :48:31.
quite a lot faster than the heat this morning. He really did build it | :48:32. | :48:37.
from here. Andy, he is looking good from here. Look at the power he has | :48:38. | :48:43.
got in his legs. That transported him forward. He will want to start | :48:44. | :48:48.
to get home over the second 50. I have never seen him looking this | :48:49. | :48:53.
good sense of the Commonwealth Games in 2014. Come on, Ross, let's nail | :48:54. | :48:59.
this turn. He is only two tenths of a second off world record pace. He | :49:00. | :49:07.
is 1.2 seconds and his record pace. He has only got one job to do here, | :49:08. | :49:13.
to make it through to the final. The rest of the field might be starting | :49:14. | :49:19.
to catch him up a bit. Koseki looks like he is going well. Ross Murdoch | :49:20. | :49:22.
is holding onto this stroke very well. It is his own Commonwealth | :49:23. | :49:29.
record. He eased up a little bit down the last 50. Just four tenths | :49:30. | :49:36.
of a second outside of his Commonwealth record, but job done. | :49:37. | :49:41.
You would take that all day, every day. He has laid down a statement of | :49:42. | :49:47.
intent and he knows how to raise. Stick him in the mix tomorrow night | :49:48. | :49:51.
in one of those centre lanes and he will know what to do. That is a | :49:52. | :49:56.
funny celebration. I have never seen that before! Ross Murdoch really | :49:57. | :50:03.
made the move over the third 50. He looked very strong. The guy he was | :50:04. | :50:11.
up against in lane seven, Koseki, he was not messing about. He has done | :50:12. | :50:14.
the second fastest time in the world this year. But Ross looks good. Ross | :50:15. | :50:25.
looks very good indeed. The champion Balandin only came in in sixth. That | :50:26. | :50:29.
it is all about time, so in theory he could make the final. But it is | :50:30. | :50:36.
not going to happen. Ross Murdoch was brilliant. They are the | :50:37. | :50:43.
semifinalists for the second semifinal. It includes Koch, the | :50:44. | :51:02.
defending world champion. We have some big guns in the outside lanes | :51:03. | :51:07.
in this breast wrote. Ross Murdoch is talking to Sharron Davies. | :51:08. | :51:14.
That looked fantastic. You must be very happy with that. Yes, | :51:15. | :51:19.
fantastic. I love racing in this event, it is so much fun, so many | :51:20. | :51:24.
different ways to do it. It is always nice to get a touch and heat. | :51:25. | :51:36.
It is fun. It was 60.15. Was it? We were excited at one stage because | :51:37. | :51:41.
you were close to the world record pace. Really? I was discounting my | :51:42. | :51:47.
case. I saw somebody on the side out in front and I let them do their | :51:48. | :51:52.
thing and I stuck to my guns and it paid off. Good luck for tomorrow. | :51:53. | :52:06.
Thank you very much. And here is the big man, Kevin Cordes. Watanabe is | :52:07. | :52:14.
the world-record holder. He was only sixth in the Olympic Games, but came | :52:15. | :52:19.
back in January this year and broke the world record. If he does that | :52:20. | :52:25.
again, he will win. This is the Olympic bronze medallist from | :52:26. | :52:32.
Russia. In this 200 breaststroke they have got big guys all over the | :52:33. | :52:38.
place. The defending world champion is in lane one. I did give a little | :52:39. | :52:49.
fist pump when I found the Olympic champion was out. It just gives our | :52:50. | :52:55.
guy by chance. But Watanabe is an interesting character. He seems to | :52:56. | :53:00.
do it when the pressure is not on. I cannot imagine he slept very well in | :53:01. | :53:04.
the Olympics because he did a time in the semifinals that would have | :53:05. | :53:10.
won the games. You can do that. Take your jewellery off, it is just going | :53:11. | :53:18.
to slow you down! You shave your body and you leave your necklace on. | :53:19. | :53:22.
It must be worth a tenth of a second. | :53:23. | :53:29.
Second semifinal of the men's 200 metres breaststroke. In the centre | :53:30. | :53:37.
is the Olympic bronze medallist from Russia. Watanabe is right in the | :53:38. | :53:45.
centre. They are beautiful long breaststroke strokes, such a | :53:46. | :53:48.
different technique to the one Adam Peaty has perfected. I cannot get | :53:49. | :53:54.
him out of my head, I cannot imagine what he would go if he turned his | :53:55. | :53:59.
hand to the 200 metres. I know it has been muted. Cordes has got his | :54:00. | :54:06.
act together this year. Just under world record pace. He has not been | :54:07. | :54:10.
the most consistent, but he dominated at the American trials. He | :54:11. | :54:17.
won the 50, the 100 and the 200. He is in great form. Look at that | :54:18. | :54:20.
stroke, look at the pause. Chupkov will have to press on now. | :54:21. | :54:44.
This is where they wind it up. This is where we saw Ross Murdoch go. But | :54:45. | :54:52.
the Japanese does not seem to be in the same form that he was in | :54:53. | :54:56.
January, in lane five. Cordes will be brimming with confidence. It is a | :54:57. | :55:05.
strange event. The big guys, some of them do really well and some of them | :55:06. | :55:10.
have an absolute stinker. The world champion is at the top with a white | :55:11. | :55:15.
hat and he is from Germany. The demise of the Germans in the | :55:16. | :55:19.
swimming pool has been phenomenal. Now coming through is Watanabe. | :55:20. | :55:23.
Maybe this is the first time we have seen this stroke. First class, he is | :55:24. | :55:30.
picking up the stroke, but Chupkov once some of the action. He has come | :55:31. | :55:37.
down very quickly in the last 25. That is only half a second outside | :55:38. | :55:42.
the world record. Chupkov left it really late. He is already getting | :55:43. | :55:50.
out. I wonder whether he is going to have a crack at the world-record | :55:51. | :55:56.
tomorrow night in the final. Well, the necklace did not seem to work | :55:57. | :56:01.
against him! It was brilliant. European record and a competition | :56:02. | :56:04.
record and to me he did not even seem to turn it on until he had 50 | :56:05. | :56:11.
to go. He was not hang about. He just wanted to get out of the water. | :56:12. | :56:17.
He did not even put his hands together for the entry. You want to | :56:18. | :56:22.
be streamlined in that position. He is just such a beautiful stroke. I | :56:23. | :56:33.
love them extending it out and maximising the stroke. Again not to | :56:34. | :56:37.
streamlined off the wall. That will be a right old ding-dong tomorrow | :56:38. | :56:41.
night. Ross Murdoch seems well-positioned, though. He went | :56:42. | :56:54.
20.70 seven. But nothing to worry about. So a new championship record | :56:55. | :56:59.
for Anton Chupkov of Russia. World-record holder was second. | :57:00. | :57:10.
Ross Murdoch of Great Britain will be going in as third fastest and he | :57:11. | :57:16.
will be right next to Chupkov. That will be interesting. | :57:17. | :57:24.
So, Ross Murdoch in that 200 metres breaststroke final tomorrow night. | :57:25. | :57:29.
How excited are you about that? Ross looked absolutely fantastic. It is | :57:30. | :57:36.
really nice to see him back in the event that he loves. When he was | :57:37. | :57:41.
speaking to Sharron I think he said the word fun about four times. I | :57:42. | :57:47.
have never said that. It is amazing to see him back where he belongs and | :57:48. | :57:51.
in the environment that he loves and I can't wait to see him tomorrow | :57:52. | :57:58.
night. And the thing is it hit the nail on the head, the enjoyment | :57:59. | :58:03.
factor. He has had a roller-coaster and it left him right down at the | :58:04. | :58:07.
end of the year. 2014 in Glasgow he ruined Michael Jamieson's race | :58:08. | :58:16.
because Michael Jamieson went in as the poster boy. Then all of a sudden | :58:17. | :58:21.
the focus was on him. But he did not have that great a year. But now he | :58:22. | :58:29.
is enjoying swimming again. There are so many different ways to swim | :58:30. | :58:34.
the race. You look at the other guys, Cordes is really long and | :58:35. | :58:37.
Watanabe and Chupkov are smaller swimmers. There are so many | :58:38. | :58:42.
different ways and when it comes to the final there will be a lot of cat | :58:43. | :58:46.
and mouse and a lot of playing around. We look forward to that | :58:47. | :58:51.
final tomorrow night. Tonight we have still got Molly Renshaw to | :58:52. | :58:57.
come, but let's talk about some fine British specimens. We had a bit of a | :58:58. | :59:04.
fun race, a media race, coming into tonight's competition. We had Nick | :59:05. | :59:12.
Ho, Rebecca Adlington, Steve Parry and Karen Pickering. Let's join the | :59:13. | :59:18.
race in the third leg. Becky Adlington, this double Olympic | :59:19. | :59:24.
champion. This is good stuff, very impressive stuff. I did not expect | :59:25. | :59:29.
this. They were out carbon loading last night and they did a super job | :59:30. | :59:34.
with the Pizzini. Is that what we call it? Rebecca Adlington was the | :59:35. | :59:39.
first to put her hand up for this race and when it was mentioned she | :59:40. | :59:51.
was in. Will Perry be the weak link? Perry might be the weak link. But he | :59:52. | :59:58.
is having a go. This could be victory for the BBC. Steve Perry is | :59:59. | :00:04.
in three and he is catching the Americans in four. It is gold! He is | :00:05. | :00:11.
exhausted. Not a bad effort at all. The Americans went and the Japanese | :00:12. | :00:19.
get second. Japan win, NBC second and the BBC are very credible third. | :00:20. | :00:24.
I feel like a proud mother of a dysfunctional family. Mark Foster | :00:25. | :00:29.
would have been in this, but he did not enter. | :00:30. | :00:36.
Gin and tonic worked well. It is the key, in the drinks bottle. We were a | :00:37. | :00:44.
bit worried you might have done a false start, it was difficult to get | :00:45. | :00:50.
the weight back on to the blocks once you started leaning. What you | :00:51. | :00:55.
don't understand is I was probably the only one taking it | :00:56. | :00:58.
professionally, these other three did not turn up for the training | :00:59. | :01:02.
camp and I am upset, I know we are one team but these three were | :01:03. | :01:05.
terrible, they should have taken more seriously. It's all about | :01:06. | :01:10.
marginal gains and they are a disgrace. I feel for you but I am | :01:11. | :01:14.
proud of your team. I don't know what he's talking | :01:15. | :01:22.
about, he could not even find his way to the pool. The American | :01:23. | :01:30.
national anthem ringing out again. I love the idea that he had been on a | :01:31. | :01:33.
training camp, he clearly did not stick to his diet! Saucer of milk. | :01:34. | :01:46.
We have two pick you up on a little something the judges may have | :01:47. | :01:50.
noticed, if we can go back and have a little look at the changeover, you | :01:51. | :01:56.
may notice you are very keen to get off the blocks, are you concerned it | :01:57. | :02:08.
was a DQ? That's good. You have to be competitive. Did you enjoy the | :02:09. | :02:20.
experience, you seem to take it quite seriously? I thought mark was | :02:21. | :02:30.
quite rude about my relaxed muscle, I was totally focused on the event | :02:31. | :02:35.
and what a joy it was. I was just disappointed we could not bring back | :02:36. | :02:40.
the win, Andrew has been talking about a bad back all week but I have | :02:41. | :02:43.
not seen it, you looked in fine fettle. It suddenly got really bad, | :02:44. | :02:49.
maybe a mass hours later. I thought you were great, when you got the | :02:50. | :02:53.
weight just over the edge and suddenly, the momentum all the way | :02:54. | :03:00.
down. That was just the laws of physics, I could not bring the | :03:01. | :03:04.
weight back once it started to go. Those are the ones talking about the | :03:05. | :03:10.
weight, not me. Adam Peaty has been talking about equilibrium all week, | :03:11. | :03:13.
maybe Steve needs to get the balance a bit better? We have been pulling | :03:14. | :03:19.
his leg Alde, congratulations Becky, you took part. I thought we were | :03:20. | :03:33.
going to get into the final. Let's talk about one of the stars of the | :03:34. | :03:39.
weekend, Katinka Hosszu, after her victory on Sunday she caught up with | :03:40. | :03:45.
Sharron, this is what she had to say. How does it feel having this | :03:46. | :03:51.
crowd, they are so noisy? It's incredible, I walked out and it is | :03:52. | :03:55.
unbelievable. Hungarian swimming in a good place a lot of that is down | :03:56. | :03:59.
to you, and you are no trailblazing for international swimmers to make | :04:00. | :04:03.
it more professional, it is close to your heart? Definitely, swimming has | :04:04. | :04:11.
huge potential. We have seen me can have 22,000 fans in the stadium and | :04:12. | :04:16.
they go crazy so I think if we put more effort we can definitely go | :04:17. | :04:21.
further. Very brave, well done. Thank you so much. For viewers who | :04:22. | :04:27.
are not dedicated swimming fans can you explain what they are on about | :04:28. | :04:34.
not to put it to simply it is a swimmers union? Yes, swimming is not | :04:35. | :04:39.
that professional, you do not get in it to make money. She feels very | :04:40. | :04:46.
strongly that everyone has their own view but she's trying to get it made | :04:47. | :04:51.
professional. I cannot hear a thing any more, sorry. I think this crowd | :04:52. | :04:57.
agreed. That is Katinka Hosszu coming out, that is what the crowd | :04:58. | :05:02.
are cheering for and that is the atmosphere she alluded to, it's a | :05:03. | :05:05.
crowd pleaser, people understand it and it's easy to follow. This place | :05:06. | :05:11.
has been packed out every night. CHEERING | :05:12. | :05:16.
They have a great history in this sport and the love they are | :05:17. | :05:20.
swimming. Last night she had the 200 final before this race, half an | :05:21. | :05:29.
hour. CHEERING Back-to-back is pretty hard and I am | :05:30. | :05:35.
not going to write her off because I think it's this event and she known | :05:36. | :05:39.
as the iron Lady and she is the toughest swimmer I have seen. Hah | :05:40. | :05:47.
and her husband have celebrity status, they keep saying to not ask | :05:48. | :05:50.
me anything because I cannot hear you. Let's hand over to our | :05:51. | :05:55.
commentators, sorry we were being cheeky! | :05:56. | :06:00.
The final is wide open for me, Katinka Hosszu goes in lane seven, | :06:01. | :06:08.
all May the 6th fastest qualifier. No one has looked fantastic so far | :06:09. | :06:31.
at this Championships. Another German who is the fastest in the | :06:32. | :06:36.
world this year but based on the form of the team I cannot see her | :06:37. | :06:42.
pulling it out. This may be her only chance of gold. I am not sure that | :06:43. | :06:47.
pressure works in her favour. The rest of her compatriots have not | :06:48. | :06:52.
done it, can she turn it around? She has qualified the fastest. The | :06:53. | :06:57.
Chinese, 24 years of age, fifth in the Olympics last year. Would you | :06:58. | :07:02.
bet against the iron Lady, Katinka Hosszu? The crowd is behind her, | :07:03. | :07:09.
it's not favoured event but she does have medals in it at the European | :07:10. | :07:16.
Championships 2010, 2014 and of course she won in 2012 so maybe she | :07:17. | :07:18.
can do it. The final of the women's 200 metres | :07:19. | :07:29.
butterfly is very hard to call, nobody has shown anything special so | :07:30. | :07:33.
far, some brilliant swimming at this World Championships and so far maybe | :07:34. | :07:38.
this is one of the weakest. The first final without an American. | :07:39. | :07:39.
Interesting. Silence for the start. The cheering | :07:40. | :07:53.
when the gun went off was extraordinary, two Hungarian women, | :07:54. | :08:01.
lane one and Katinka Hosszu in lane seven, Katinka Hosszu has gone off | :08:02. | :08:07.
reasonably quickly. She had a great start, great work from her. They are | :08:08. | :08:16.
all in a line here. The 21-year-old Korean has started well, we'll help | :08:17. | :08:25.
each other's year. Really good underwater work from lane four. A | :08:26. | :08:32.
master tactician, the Olympic champion in lane three, she knows | :08:33. | :08:41.
how to pace the race. Looking decent but I have to say Katinka Hosszu | :08:42. | :08:44.
closest to us as well one line from the bottom in lane seven looking | :08:45. | :08:49.
very good indeed and I think she might turn first, she has done. The | :08:50. | :08:56.
crowd has gone nuts. The Olympic champion turned second just about. | :08:57. | :09:03.
The pink city Olympic champion. The fastest in the world this year, | :09:04. | :09:10.
Hentke of Germany. Still going well, Katinka Hosszu. The first woman to | :09:11. | :09:18.
ever win a gold medal for Spain is showing her class here but Katinka | :09:19. | :09:23.
Hosszu will not quit, she is so tough. Surely she does not have | :09:24. | :09:25.
enough to real in the Olympic champion now? . What a turn that was | :09:26. | :09:40.
from Katinka Hosszu, but Belmonte has done a brilliant 1500 metres, | :09:41. | :09:47.
the German coming back, Hentke, coming back, Hentke, can she get the | :09:48. | :09:54.
touch? Belmonte and three, Hentke and four, the gold goes to the | :09:55. | :10:06.
Olympic champion Belmonte. A wonderful bronze, I have to say | :10:07. | :10:11.
that's a brilliant bronze for Katinka Hosszu, qualifying sixth, | :10:12. | :10:14.
she's got a massive smile on her face, the world champion, Belmonte | :10:15. | :10:22.
gold at the World Championships to go with the Gold she got in Rio last | :10:23. | :10:27.
year and a huge celebration from Katinka Hosszu for the bronze. That | :10:28. | :10:38.
young lady is going to swim about seven the half thousand metres this | :10:39. | :10:41.
week with all the races she is doing but brilliant, silver medal in the | :10:42. | :10:47.
1500 with a gold medal on the 200 metres butterfly. Tactically it was | :10:48. | :10:53.
brilliant, she knew exactly when to go. She was getting run down on the | :10:54. | :11:02.
last 25 metres. Hentke. Neither of them had good finishes to be honest | :11:03. | :11:06.
but one of them chose to glide, the other chose to take another stroke | :11:07. | :11:12.
and jammed it. She was surprised she won. What did she think when she was | :11:13. | :11:21.
gliding in? Come to me, Wall, that is what she was thinking! Perhaps | :11:22. | :11:23.
not as plate is that! Let's give Belmonte respect she | :11:24. | :11:46.
deserves before we get into a interview where the crowd will | :11:47. | :11:52.
erupt. Belmonte very dominant. She is Olympic champion, second in the | :11:53. | :11:58.
1500, so much back end, you knew when she came off the back while it | :11:59. | :12:03.
got close but because she does 1500 she has so much in Juventus. I think | :12:04. | :12:13.
you'd think the whole zoo, she -- Katinka Hosszu, I did not think she | :12:14. | :12:16.
would win but it was a phenomenal race. This place is going crazy. | :12:17. | :12:25.
It's nice to see the swimmer getting respect. The last 25 metres Belmonte | :12:26. | :12:38.
in three, it came down to these last few strokes, it was going to be | :12:39. | :12:45.
about to hit the wall right, Belmonte gliding in and Hentke | :12:46. | :12:50.
taking an extra jab, the race was won before that last bit but we've | :12:51. | :12:53.
seen races in the past one and lost by those tight finishes. Definitely. | :12:54. | :12:58.
CHEERING It is every time I talk, they do not | :12:59. | :13:04.
want me talking tonight! But I think Belmonte used the crowd, you could | :13:05. | :13:07.
see her getting faster and faster and building it up, I think you | :13:08. | :13:16.
could tell the crowd helped her. It's one of the nastiest races and I | :13:17. | :13:21.
mean that in this sense, you're talking about, if you get the pacing | :13:22. | :13:28.
wrong it really, really hurts. Have you ever done in a 200 metre flight? | :13:29. | :13:35.
I did one when I was 15. I think we are building up to a challenge. The | :13:36. | :13:42.
Hungarians love Katinka Hosszu and we love Brendan Foster and ahead of | :13:43. | :13:46.
the world gliding Championships next week there is a documentary | :13:47. | :13:50.
celebrating his career before he hangs up his microphone. Here's what | :13:51. | :13:55.
you can expect. It's a simple story, local lad. When I think about him I | :13:56. | :14:03.
just have two smile. Brendan Foster is a great athlete. What he achieved | :14:04. | :14:09.
on the track was incredible. Gold medal for Great Britain, | :14:10. | :14:13.
devastating. We have always had great competitors but few have gone | :14:14. | :14:18.
on to put as much back as he has. He's a Geordie and he's great. | :14:19. | :14:21.
Everybody loved him. The world athletics starts a week | :14:22. | :14:33.
tomorrow in London and it features this guy. London, are you ready? Mo | :14:34. | :14:45.
Farah wins the gold! It's going to be Dafne Schippers! Laura Muir | :14:46. | :14:52.
smashes the British record! Usain Bolt! I'm ready! | :14:53. | :15:00.
Next up in Budapest we have got the women's 200 metre breaststroke | :15:01. | :15:09.
semifinals, two Brits, Joslin Ulyett and Molly Renshaw, let's hear from | :15:10. | :15:11.
Molly. It is good to have new faces on the | :15:12. | :15:29.
team after rear. How difficult is it with all the new talent now? It has | :15:30. | :15:34.
kept me on my toes. It keeps me training hard and I cannot get | :15:35. | :15:39.
comfortable with what I am doing because there are always people | :15:40. | :15:44.
coming through. What is the target for Budapest? I would love to get | :15:45. | :15:55.
into 2.22, VB and a 2.21, and get on the podium. Molly Renshaw was | :15:56. | :16:02.
fastest coming into this qualifying heat. How impressed with you are you | :16:03. | :16:13.
with her so far? She came third at the trials and it shows how much | :16:14. | :16:18.
breaststroke in the UK for females is moving on. Chloe was fourth last | :16:19. | :16:22.
year and she could not make the team this year because it was that close. | :16:23. | :16:27.
But Molly is going from strength to strength and she will be trying to | :16:28. | :16:31.
claw back her British record. One of the things we saw this morning is we | :16:32. | :16:36.
have seen some really good heat. When it gets into the semifinals | :16:37. | :16:40.
there are 16 people and to make the final of the eight, with the times | :16:41. | :16:44.
this morning, she has got a lot more left and so have the others. | :16:45. | :16:50.
Pedersen and King have all been down at 2.19, so she has to move things | :16:51. | :16:56.
up. She is in a great lane and is in good form. We have got some really | :16:57. | :17:02.
good 200 metre breaststroke swimmers and she could get under 2.22 and set | :17:03. | :17:08.
herself up for the semifinal. You have been talking about the depth | :17:09. | :17:11.
that we have and that is where Jocelyn Ulyett comes into it. She | :17:12. | :17:17.
put on a fantastic performance and that is how she got into the team | :17:18. | :17:21.
and has been speaking to Nick. How important are these World | :17:22. | :17:24.
Championships and what do you want to get out of them? They are | :17:25. | :17:31.
important to me because it is my first time representing GB and my | :17:32. | :17:35.
first international meat. I want to enjoy it and have fun and go in with | :17:36. | :17:40.
the same mentality and learn as much as I can and observe and absorb | :17:41. | :17:44.
everything in the environment. There's talk about Jocelyn all yet. | :17:45. | :17:49.
She is one of the younger members of the team coming through hot on the | :17:50. | :17:55.
heels of Molly Renshaw. She is 21 years of aid which is not massively | :17:56. | :18:01.
that young. We talk about Adam being young and he is only 22. Females are | :18:02. | :18:07.
different. Lilly King is 20 and she picked up the gold medal. But what | :18:08. | :18:14.
Nick has done with her is incredible. He is a bit like Mel | :18:15. | :18:20.
Marshall, a young coach, but a young coach of passionate about the sport. | :18:21. | :18:24.
We have heard she has been injured for the past couple of months. We do | :18:25. | :18:29.
not know how, but she has had a few niggles. She was four seconds off | :18:30. | :18:36.
her personal best time in the heats. But it is just the heats. That is a | :18:37. | :18:43.
big drop from the trials. You go to a major meat and let's face it we | :18:44. | :18:48.
all go and we want to do our best time, but it does not always happen. | :18:49. | :18:55.
Not everyone is Adam Peaty, who gets a world record every time he jumps | :18:56. | :18:59.
into the pool. She just has to do what she can do, she is injured. She | :19:00. | :19:06.
has got a bright future. When we talk about the ages and we talk | :19:07. | :19:09.
about the 200 fly with content causing and Del Monte, she will be | :19:10. | :19:20.
24 in Tokyo and 2.22 is a very competitive time. There is plenty of | :19:21. | :19:26.
quality in terms of the rest of the world. Here is a reminder of what | :19:27. | :19:31.
happened earlier in the week. Let's join the race in the last 50. | :19:32. | :19:41.
Lilly King is setting the pace. Not on the world record pace at this | :19:42. | :19:48.
stage. Yulia Efimova has a tremendously fast finish. The | :19:49. | :19:56.
Olympic champion from Rio, Lilly King, is going very fast and she is | :19:57. | :20:03.
powering down this second 50. Coming back really quickly is Yulia Efimova | :20:04. | :20:07.
from Russia, but it looks like Lilly Kane. She is the Olympic champion | :20:08. | :20:12.
and now she is the world champion. That is a new world record for Lilly | :20:13. | :20:19.
King of the USA. What a wonderful swim. A fantastic start. A very good | :20:20. | :20:26.
first 50. She has just realised she has got the world record and the | :20:27. | :20:30.
gold medal. Yulia Efimova just cannot believe it. And out of a | :20:31. | :20:37.
quality in terms of worldwide women's breaststroke, but talk about | :20:38. | :20:42.
the characters. Lilly King, Yulia Efimova, we will be seeing them | :20:43. | :20:49.
tonight. It is a controversial event and Lilly King has been one of the | :20:50. | :20:53.
more outspoken people. She did not even shake Yuli's hand. It is | :20:54. | :21:05.
understandable. Lilly King wants to be the cleanest and the best in the | :21:06. | :21:09.
sport and she wants to get on the podium. This morning she wanted to | :21:10. | :21:14.
make a statement. When someone does something wrong, everyone says it is | :21:15. | :21:23.
not right, but she has done her time and she is now clean so to speak and | :21:24. | :21:28.
she has just got to swim. Let's turn our attention to the women's 200 | :21:29. | :21:32.
metres breaststroke semifinal and in the first one we have got Joslyn all | :21:33. | :21:37.
yet and in the second semifinal we have got Molly Renshaw. | :21:38. | :21:47.
Joslyn all yet will be in lane one. She has been injured and it will be | :21:48. | :21:55.
tough to repeat her record. Lilly King of the USA, the new world | :21:56. | :21:59.
record holder on the 100 metres breaststroke. Gold and silver for | :22:00. | :22:04.
the American University Championships. It was King and | :22:05. | :22:11.
Smith. Jessica Vall swam well in the heat this morning. She looked very | :22:12. | :22:16.
smooth. Yes, the Spaniard looked very smooth and she will be going | :22:17. | :22:26.
next to Lilly King. She was so passionate, Lilly Kane, when she | :22:27. | :22:30.
beat Yulia Efimova and one the gold medal. She has vastly improved under | :22:31. | :22:35.
200 metres breaststroke. She did not even make the final last in Rio. But | :22:36. | :22:41.
if she could get a medal tomorrow night, that would be impressive. It | :22:42. | :22:46.
is a good chance to get some experience for Joslyn all yet. | :22:47. | :22:54.
Looking forward to seeing how she can do, maybe building on the | :22:55. | :22:58.
experience and confidence she will get from being in this World | :22:59. | :23:04.
Championship semifinal. That will be for the Commonwealth Games and for | :23:05. | :23:11.
2020. The first semifinal of the women's 200 metres breaststroke. The | :23:12. | :23:17.
world record-holder in the 100, Lilly King in the centre. The black | :23:18. | :23:28.
hat and the Black suit of Lilly King in lane four. Just a bully it is at | :23:29. | :23:33.
the top for Great Britain. It is a very good start from King. A | :23:34. | :23:36.
completely different tempo from the men's event. They are all about | :23:37. | :23:43.
distance per stroke. Although Lilly King is very efficient, her turnover | :23:44. | :23:48.
is very higher. The efficiency and the higher turnover results in the | :23:49. | :23:53.
gap that is opening up at the moment. She is going down well. She | :23:54. | :23:58.
will have oodles of confidence after the win in the 100. Is that because | :23:59. | :24:06.
she did not have any before? It comes out of every pore. She is only | :24:07. | :24:10.
20 years of age but very serious. On the right-hand side of the screen, | :24:11. | :24:17.
Joslyn all yet will benefit from having the Olympic bronze medallist | :24:18. | :24:21.
next to her. When you are in that position you cannot see anything | :24:22. | :24:25.
beyond that lane next to you and I hope that is a benefit for her. | :24:26. | :24:32.
Joslyn all yet is ahead at the moment of Lilly King. She is! | :24:33. | :24:39.
Jinglin Shi was the first to turn. Joslyn all yet was second. Lilly | :24:40. | :24:46.
King, having built her up an awful lot, she does not look great and | :24:47. | :24:50.
Kierra Smith of Canada is starting to come through. She will be | :24:51. | :24:56.
thinking to herself, I am not doing very well. Hopefully she has an | :24:57. | :25:02.
understanding that she is doing well. Joslyn all yet does not look | :25:03. | :25:12.
injured to me. She is just a second behind the Olympic bronze medallist. | :25:13. | :25:16.
If she can keep this pace together, she will be through to the final. | :25:17. | :25:22.
Kierra Smith from Canada is starting to turn it on. Come on, Joslyn all | :25:23. | :25:27.
yet. This is brilliant from her. She is starting to catch up from Jinglin | :25:28. | :25:33.
Shi in China. We were talking about her having an injury. But the rest | :25:34. | :25:38.
of the field are now starting to charge. Joslyn all yet is getting a | :25:39. | :25:45.
bit tired. If she can finish fourth it could be useful because King does | :25:46. | :25:57.
not look good. Jinglin Shi wins it. Lilly King did not look great in | :25:58. | :26:03.
fourth. Oh, my goodness me, Lilly King of the USA beat Joslyn all yet | :26:04. | :26:11.
by one 100th of a second. It is very good. Very good indeed. King was | :26:12. | :26:20.
awful. She may not make the final. That might be a huge one 100th of a | :26:21. | :26:27.
second. I think that would definitely knock out the Brit. But | :26:28. | :26:33.
she did ever so well. Let's wait for the second semifinal because it is a | :26:34. | :26:45.
decent one. It will be very close. This is all about getting in there. | :26:46. | :26:53.
She just jammed it a little bit. King finishes on a full stroke which | :26:54. | :26:59.
is helpful. The result of the first semifinal of the women's 200 metres | :27:00. | :27:06.
breaststroke. Joslyn all yet could still make the final. A decent swim | :27:07. | :27:13.
from Joslyn all yet. How confident are you that will get her into the | :27:14. | :27:18.
final? I do not think she will get in, but you never know. It might be | :27:19. | :27:23.
that 100th of a second that might make the difference. The second | :27:24. | :27:28.
semifinal featuring Molly Renshaw will be on the Red Button. If you | :27:29. | :27:33.
want to see her race, you need to push your Red Button now. That is | :27:34. | :27:41.
where the coverage continues. If you want to see the world swimming | :27:42. | :27:48.
Championships tomorrow you can. You can also see Luke Greenbank on the | :27:49. | :27:53.
Red Button. You can also download the podcast. Thank you very much for | :27:54. | :27:57.
your company this afternoon. We will see you over on the Red Button where | :27:58. | :28:01.
there are | :28:02. | :28:02. |
