Hello and welcome to Budapest. It is going to be a brilliant night of

:00:33.:00:38.

racing this evening. Some of the biggest stars in world swimming will

:00:39.:00:42.

be in action. Alongside the brilliant Brits! Here's what's

:00:43.:00:49.

coming up. Will Ben be proud tonight? Our world

:00:50.:00:58.

champion is in action. Molly Renshaw leads the Bristol charge.

:00:59.:01:04.

And Lochte on a global stage and can the British boys hang on to their

:01:05.:01:13.

title in the men's four by 200 relay? Some big races and

:01:14.:01:17.

opportunities for British swimmers to get on the podium. Big

:01:18.:01:22.

characters, where to begin? I am looking forward to Ross Murdoch

:01:23.:01:27.

in the 200m breaststroke. A great race. Ben Proud in the semifinal.

:01:28.:01:33.

Who will be the fastest man on the planet.

:01:34.:01:38.

And obviously the 4x200m. That will be amazing.

:01:39.:01:41.

The British boys are looking to defend their title. It will be a

:01:42.:01:46.

tough one. On paper one team could win it but does it matter in an

:01:47.:01:51.

environment like this on a stage like this? No, it changes on a night

:01:52.:01:57.

like tonight. Rankings mean nothing. It is who can step up to the

:01:58.:02:03.

occasion, who can handle the nerves? It will be a great race.

:02:04.:02:09.

The women's 100m freestyle final, some of the biggest names are in the

:02:10.:02:15.

line up. It is a hit. You have everything, the Olympic

:02:16.:02:20.

champion in lane one. Two Olympic champions when there was a tie at

:02:21.:02:27.

the Paralympic Games. The Canadian over in lane seven. The world

:02:28.:02:39.

champions in there, and Shoshum. I have to lean in to hear what you

:02:40.:02:44.

are saying, that is because once again the Hungarian crowd are going

:02:45.:02:48.

crazy. They are loud, proud and rightly so.

:02:49.:02:53.

Now, let's go over for the women's 100m freestyle final.

:02:54.:03:07.

Welcome to the greatest field. The women's 100m freestylers ever

:03:08.:03:10.

assembled. Each one is or has been an Olympic world champion.

:03:11.:03:15.

They have been introduced into the crowd.

:03:16.:03:20.

In lane seven, Ehud Olmert. Tied for gold. That was Bronte Campbell, the

:03:21.:03:26.

defending world champion. Here, Pernille Blume of Denmark.

:03:27.:03:37.

And gold in the 50m freestyle. And Steve joins me, and there is Sarah

:03:38.:03:43.

Sjostrom. Sandwiched by two huge Americans.

:03:44.:03:49.

And there was one of them, Mallory Comerford.

:03:50.:03:53.

Mallory Comerford is the US record-holder at the moment.

:03:54.:03:57.

She is 19 years of age. There is Simone Manuel. She tied at the

:03:58.:04:02.

Paralympic Games. She will not want to let that title go - being the

:04:03.:04:06.

best in the world. But I think it will happen. Just look at this lady.

:04:07.:04:11.

She broke the world record earlier this year.

:04:12.:04:19.

Andy, she went under 52 seconds. Breaking it in the 100m women's

:04:20.:04:28.

freestyle. If she is going sub-52, I think that the gold is her's. The

:04:29.:04:33.

last time an American won this World Championship was 19 years ago, it

:04:34.:04:37.

was Jenny Thompson. The last time man and a woman,

:04:38.:04:41.

American, won gold, Caeleb Dressel, of course has won the men's already,

:04:42.:04:47.

it was 28 years ago. So, the greatest field of women.

:04:48.:04:53.

100m freestylers ever assembled, the final of the World Championships

:04:54.:04:58.

here in 2017 in Budapest. The fastest qualifier, the new world

:04:59.:05:02.

record-holder, Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden. The rest of them are

:05:03.:05:07.

absolutely sensational sprint freestylers.

:05:08.:05:16.

Sarah Sjostrom in the centre for Sweden. A good start from Ranomi

:05:17.:05:21.

Kromowidjojo. The Olympic champion from four years

:05:22.:05:26.

ago in London 2012. There, look as Sarah Sjostrom. Making mince meet of

:05:27.:05:31.

the reigning Olympic champion. I feel she has benefitted this year.

:05:32.:05:36.

She benefitted from dropping the 200 freestyle from the programme. She is

:05:37.:05:40.

under world record pace at this stage. The time she did earlier in

:05:41.:05:45.

the week. Can the field hang with her? She is powerful. Working really

:05:46.:05:51.

hard in the 25 metres. There is Simone Manuel coming back well. She

:05:52.:05:55.

was the first black woman to win gold in the swimming pool. She is

:05:56.:05:59.

looking good here. Simone Manuel is coming here. This is tight. I think

:06:00.:06:03.

that Simone Manuel could get it. Simone Manuel is the first black

:06:04.:06:09.

woman ever win! The first championship title in the 100m

:06:10.:06:13.

freestyle in any event in the World Championships! Can you believe that!

:06:14.:06:18.

Gold in Rio last year. Now the world champion! I cannot believe that

:06:19.:06:23.

happened. She swam it absolutely perfectly. 4100ths, is the gap

:06:24.:06:31.

between the gold and the silver, between Simone Manuel and Sarah

:06:32.:06:37.

Sjostrom. That is a massive shock. Well, no-one in the building in more

:06:38.:06:43.

shock than Sarah Sjostrom. It was looking so good up to 60

:06:44.:06:48.

metres. She had a great start. When she came in here, she was faster

:06:49.:06:53.

than on the relay. She has had two days off. How can sheing tired? But

:06:54.:06:57.

look there, no extension on the stroke. And a great finish, a great

:06:58.:07:04.

finish from the Olympic champion. Andy, she really wanted it, didn't

:07:05.:07:08.

she? I don't think that the concentration was there.

:07:09.:07:13.

That is Pernille Blume, she has the bronze medal. What a surprising

:07:14.:07:18.

finish that was. She doesn't look that excited.

:07:19.:07:22.

Simone Manuel, you are the Olympic champion! She is too tired to have a

:07:23.:07:30.

smile. Come on, now! What a shock. Simone Manuel, the Gold Medal.

:07:31.:07:38.

Sarah Sjostrom, the silver medal. Pernille Blume, the bronze.

:07:39.:07:42.

Well, guy, did you see that one coming? I'm shocked. Speechless.

:07:43.:07:51.

Sjostrom is faster on paper. As we discussed, the paper is irrelevant.

:07:52.:07:56.

How can you swim slower four days later? I know what did happen over

:07:57.:08:02.

the first 25 metres. She didn't breathe. Why? The bottom line is

:08:03.:08:07.

when you get into the race it is all about the oxygen. You don't,

:08:08.:08:12.

don't... You can see it in the middle of the pool. You can't see

:08:13.:08:18.

from the angle but she has her head down and breathes on the red marker

:08:19.:08:24.

here. You go into oxygen debt. You build up lactate. That is something

:08:25.:08:27.

you don't do. She is under her world record. Out

:08:28.:08:32.

really well but you look down the second length, she is controlling

:08:33.:08:36.

the race here. And Simone Manuel did her race. She sat off the lane rope

:08:37.:08:41.

and swam off her. Is that a mistake or a new tactic?

:08:42.:08:48.

She came second, of course it was! I don't know what she did breaking the

:08:49.:08:54.

world record. I can't fault what she did but she was half a second slower

:08:55.:09:00.

in the second lap. Looking in the water, she is going backwards. That

:09:01.:09:04.

is an elephant on the back, you are gone and fighting to get to the wall

:09:05.:09:08.

because the lactate is setting and there is nothing you can do.

:09:09.:09:14.

Well, next up is the men's 200m backstroke final. Ryan Murphy is

:09:15.:09:21.

going in this one but Xu Jiayu qualified fastest.

:09:22.:09:30.

Let's see what happened. So, the final of the men's 200

:09:31.:09:35.

backstroke. Again, we've had so many fascinating races. This is yet

:09:36.:09:43.

another. Up until this World Championships, Xu won gold on the

:09:44.:09:49.

100. And he is fastest seed on this 200m backstroke. Surely he cannot do

:09:50.:09:54.

the double? It means so much to him. Xu missed out in the Paralympic

:09:55.:09:59.

Games. He didn't get a medal. He was sixth, that must have stung. But the

:10:00.:10:05.

main protagonists are back in. Ryan Murphy, the Olympic on the 100 and

:10:06.:10:14.

the 200, he was really upset. So, Xu, Ryan Murphy and Evgeny

:10:15.:10:17.

Rylov, who is very, very quick indeed.

:10:18.:10:22.

Murphy was upset after the 100. He was spitting down there in the

:10:23.:10:26.

mix-on afterwards. He doesn't want to lose both of the titles he won in

:10:27.:10:32.

the Paralympic Games last year. When he was leading off the American

:10:33.:10:36.

mixed medley relay, he did a time that would have won a gold on the

:10:37.:10:41.

individual? I don't know how that happens. You have to have a big

:10:42.:10:48.

match temptment to make it happen. Here is the local favourite. Peter

:10:49.:10:56.

Bernek of Hungary, the European champion off the 200 backstroke five

:10:57.:11:00.

years ago. And this guy, oh, Ryosuke Irie, the

:11:01.:11:04.

World Championship Silver Medallist in 2009 and 2011. He came to London

:11:05.:11:10.

in 2012, and got a silver. Mr Silver he is. Can he get a gold. And Jacob

:11:11.:11:19.

Pebley from the USA. Fifth in Rio. He swims with a great team and his

:11:20.:11:26.

team-mate, Ryan Murphy is in five. I love Kliment Kolesnikov. He is 17

:11:27.:11:32.

years of age. He trains with Evgeny Rylov.

:11:33.:11:37.

Both of them are training with James Gibson, a great British swimmer with

:11:38.:11:42.

working with a lot of the Russian guys.

:11:43.:11:46.

So, two club mates, Jacob Pebley and Ryan Murphy from the usa. Here is

:11:47.:11:52.

Ryan Murphy. He looks nonchalant. He has the head phones on. Here he is

:11:53.:11:59.

giving a little bit now. He just looks a little pedestrian to me.

:12:00.:12:03.

Just a little too coal. I would love to stick a rock up... And wake him

:12:04.:12:07.

up a little bit. This guy is a rocket. Fantastic,

:12:08.:12:15.

last night we saw Xu go off like a rocket. Underworld record pace at

:12:16.:12:22.

the halfway mark, I wonder if he was testing the pace for the first 100?

:12:23.:12:28.

It felt to me the case. There was an insane record here.

:12:29.:12:33.

1.51. But he was challenging the marker. He has a beautiful stroke.

:12:34.:12:39.

But this man here, Murphy, the Olympic champion if he gets the

:12:40.:12:42.

pacing wrong, he will be there to take the gold.

:12:43.:12:48.

There is callish any could've with a another necklace. I don't understand

:12:49.:12:54.

that, you shave your body, get rid of the hairs and then leave a speed

:12:55.:12:58.

bump around your neck. I'm dying to know how much this is

:12:59.:13:04.

slowing him down. If you shave your body, why oh, why are you leaving

:13:05.:13:08.

your jewellery on? It's a total mystery! So, a final of the men's

:13:09.:13:15.

200m backstroke at the World Championships. Can Xu do the double?

:13:16.:13:25.

The 100 an the 200. Oh! Xu did a little bit of bouncing,

:13:26.:13:31.

trying to anticipate the starter a little bit. By far the best start

:13:32.:13:38.

has come up in lane three from Evgeny Rylov of Russia. He is

:13:39.:13:41.

breathing down the first 25. Beautiful strokes. Evgeny Rylov in

:13:42.:13:46.

three, Xu in four. A little ragged is Ryan Murphy.

:13:47.:13:50.

There is a reason that Evgeny Rylov is the fastest in the world. He is

:13:51.:13:55.

capable of 1.53. He is not messing here. Look at that. A tenth of the

:13:56.:14:01.

second off the world record place. This will be a world-class race. The

:14:02.:14:11.

Russians are struggling. But Evgeny Rylov has to be careful. Xu and

:14:12.:14:16.

Murphy will be ready to pounce. And Xu he did a Evgeny Rylov in the

:14:17.:14:21.

semifinal. Evgeny Rylov is miles ahead. This is going to hurt. 54.5.

:14:22.:14:29.

The world record was 54.9. So he is under that. The rest of the field

:14:30.:14:36.

will start to charge. Ryan Murphy on the 200 has had better tactics.

:14:37.:14:40.

There are two races. I didn't expect this. Look at Evgeny Rylov. You hope

:14:41.:14:47.

he has not gone out too fast. Xu and Murphy are class acts down the last

:14:48.:14:51.

50. Surely Evgeny Rylov cannot hold on? He is trying though.

:14:52.:14:57.

Look at the gap between Evgeny Rylov and Xu. The leader is in the yellow

:14:58.:15:01.

hat. A lot of clear water between the two. Evgeny Rylov is holding off

:15:02.:15:07.

with 25 metres to go. Evgeny Rylov, the 20-year-old from Russia. The owe

:15:08.:15:13.

Olympic Games winner. But the black cap is coming back fast of Ryan

:15:14.:15:19.

Murphy. Have the wheels fallen off for Evgeny Rylov? 1.53.6 is the Gold

:15:20.:15:25.

Medal. It has gone to Russia, it has gone to Evgeny Rylov. And I can tell

:15:26.:15:30.

you the Russian comment Aitors in front of me are going berserk! The

:15:31.:15:35.

silver medal has gone to Jacob Pebley. Well, that is an interesting

:15:36.:15:40.

one. No, excuse me, to Ryan Murphy. He

:15:41.:15:44.

got the silver, Jacob Pebley the bronze. So it is Russia, gold, USA

:15:45.:15:58.

silver, USA bronze. Evgeny Rylov, often fortune favours

:15:59.:16:03.

the brave on the 200 events. And how brave was he over that first 50. Not

:16:04.:16:08.

messing about at all. I didn't think he could hold on. When you go, you

:16:09.:16:13.

go. But that 20-year-old, he deserves the plaudits. He came in as

:16:14.:16:17.

the number one in the world and he delivered.

:16:18.:16:20.

He's delivered a time faster than Ryan Murphy won the Olympics in last

:16:21.:16:28.

year that. Must have hurt so bad. Just watch the rest of the world

:16:29.:16:33.

come back at you. Ouch. He glided in as well. He really was exhausted.

:16:34.:16:38.

Well done, Sir. You've got to salute that. Massive guts. Pebley is

:16:39.:16:50.

happier than Rylov. He loved it. He won a bronze ahead of fourth

:16:51.:16:56.

position. There is the new world champion. The world champion is

:16:57.:17:00.

Yvgeny Rylov of Russia. That was a demonstration in

:17:01.:17:21.

dominance, wasn't it? I think most races we talk about it being so

:17:22.:17:24.

close, that was something else. What a swim. Let's turn to the same event

:17:25.:17:33.

but for the women. Emily Seabaum didn't have the Olympics she wanted.

:17:34.:17:38.

She's been talking to Sharon about her journey to Budapest.

:17:39.:17:42.

COMMENTATOR: She's come sixth, what a shocking Olympics she's had.

:17:43.:17:45.

Really disappointing, I'd like to know what's going on. Last year was

:17:46.:17:52.

really tough especially on myself physically and mentally. To come

:17:53.:17:55.

back into this and do so well, I'm really happy. I got diagnosed with

:17:56.:18:03.

end meet rose I in -- endometriosis in June last year. I couldn't do

:18:04.:18:07.

much about it until after Rio. I needed surgery. You've been

:18:08.:18:12.

competing at this level for such a long time...

:18:13.:18:15.

COMMENTATOR: That is brilliant, a 14-year-old taking on a world record

:18:16.:18:18.

holder. It's difficult not to have down years. I know and now being 25,

:18:19.:18:24.

being on the Australian swim team for 11 consecutive years has been

:18:25.:18:26.

really tough, but I love the challenge. I love swimming. This is

:18:27.:18:31.

why I do it. A lot of Australians that didn't get the results last

:18:32.:18:36.

year decided to take a chunk of time off. You took a bit of time off.

:18:37.:18:40.

Right decision? I don't know. I wanted to swim this year. I got all

:18:41.:18:44.

my surgery done December and January so I could be back in the water and

:18:45.:18:51.

make this meet and seeing where I'm at is pretty good. I did the world

:18:52.:18:56.

short course in December. After that, me and Mitch had a break and

:18:57.:19:01.

went to New York. I came home and got my surgery just after Christmas.

:19:02.:19:05.

It's been a long road of recovery and making sure that my health is

:19:06.:19:17.

100%. I think I'm doing pretty well. Being the soft hearted mummies we

:19:18.:19:22.

are - I meant Becky there not you - we have talked about how these guys

:19:23.:19:25.

are only human. How do you come back to such a high level when you've

:19:26.:19:29.

dealt with something so debilitating as surgery? The thing is especially

:19:30.:19:33.

in swimming you love your sport. You don't do it for fame or money or

:19:34.:19:37.

anything else. Obviously it's clear that Emily loves her sport. She said

:19:38.:19:41.

she wanted to get back in the water. I think all of us, to get up at 5am

:19:42.:19:45.

every morning, you've got to love what you do. I think it's really

:19:46.:19:48.

clear she does. It's great to see her back on form. She talks about

:19:49.:19:54.

being 25, Hosni is 28, she's not past her prime yet. Will she be

:19:55.:19:58.

looking for redemption because of Rio? Yeah, clearly we know that she

:19:59.:20:02.

can do it. She knows she can do it. The thing is you find we've all had

:20:03.:20:07.

it. When things are going well. Things are going swimmingly, I know!

:20:08.:20:13.

You took a long time to laugh back at me. Floated on the surface, but

:20:14.:20:16.

when things happen and we've all had an injury, you learn more about

:20:17.:20:20.

yourself in the bad times than the good times. It's always one of these

:20:21.:20:24.

things I say about in sport and life there's no such thing as failing. I

:20:25.:20:27.

always think about failing, you learn something about yourself. Then

:20:28.:20:30.

you come back stronger, hopefully. As you say, 25 years of age, she has

:20:31.:20:35.

a lot of time. That is why you are a motivational Speaker. Emily goes in

:20:36.:20:47.

the second semifinal. Get your ear plugs ready. Over to you.

:20:48.:21:01.

She won gold on that 200 medley, what a brilliant swim that was. A

:21:02.:21:08.

bronze on the 200 fly. The crowd actually one of the loudest noises

:21:09.:21:12.

is when the Hungarian men's team got a bronze on the four by 100 free.

:21:13.:21:17.

Extraordinary. Four of the finest from Rio in the first semifinal of

:21:18.:21:21.

the women's 200m backstroke. Just got a glimpse of 15-year-old

:21:22.:21:44.

Smith. I wonder if she's intimidated swimming next to Hosszu. She's going

:21:45.:21:50.

in five. She's 15 years of age. Next to her, not wanting to be outdon is

:21:51.:21:56.

the Aussie. -- outdone. They start young these days. Must have been

:21:57.:22:01.

training since they were eight. It is quite extraordinary. Born in

:22:02.:22:09.

2002. She's in the world championships semifinal. Off to the

:22:10.:22:13.

world juniors in a couple of weeks. This is the world seniors. Hosszu if

:22:14.:22:19.

four. -- in four. I have to say the heats this morning

:22:20.:22:24.

were not particularly fast. There's a lot of opportunity here for some

:22:25.:22:28.

people who may otherwise not get in the final to have a crack and beat

:22:29.:22:34.

some people maybe they shouldn't do. Hosszu, the world short course

:22:35.:22:37.

champion on the 200m backstroke. Decent start, in the centre in four

:22:38.:22:43.

for Hungary. Liking the look of Smith. One down from Hosszu, in

:22:44.:22:47.

between the yellow lane rope. 15 years of age, taking it to Hosszu,

:22:48.:22:55.

the Iron Lady. I'm not sure about Hosszu this week. She's won that

:22:56.:23:01.

Gold Medal on the 200m individual medley but she hasn't looked her

:23:02.:23:06.

usual dominant self. She was a second off her own world record, she

:23:07.:23:10.

set that at the Olympics to win the gold there. A second off her best

:23:11.:23:14.

there. She fought well on that 200 butterfly to win the bronze. I

:23:15.:23:18.

thought that was very good. Her best event may be still to come, this one

:23:19.:23:25.

and the 400 medley. First over is Caldwell, the bronze-medallist from

:23:26.:23:29.

the Olympic Games. Still going well is the 15-year-old Smith in five for

:23:30.:23:34.

the USA. Nothing better than unearthing new talent. The Americans

:23:35.:23:39.

have got one here in the 15-year-old Reagan Smith. She will go well at

:23:40.:23:44.

the world juniors. Hosszu is more of a power swimmer than a technician.

:23:45.:23:47.

She's having to work really hard here. Let's look at the wall and see

:23:48.:23:54.

where they go in and come out. Got to get that good leg kick in the

:23:55.:24:00.

water. Hosszu lost ground there. The Hungarian crowd won't like this.

:24:01.:24:05.

They're willing her on. She's in the centre of those three leaders at the

:24:06.:24:09.

top of there. Caldwell in the white hat leading. Coming back reasonably

:24:10.:24:17.

well down here in lane seven is Ustinova. She was fourth at the

:24:18.:24:34.

Olympic Games. Ustinova gets it, Smith second, McKeon third. Hosszu

:24:35.:24:41.

only fourth. She should be OK. It's all about timing from these

:24:42.:24:46.

semifinals. Oh, dear, look at that. Well there's the 15-year-old. She's

:24:47.:24:51.

going to make the world Championship senior final, aged 15. Well done.

:24:52.:24:59.

Big PB for her and a world junior record. No wonder she's crying. I

:25:00.:25:03.

thought she was too young for world juniors at 15. She's got a couple of

:25:04.:25:07.

years to have a crack at that. Didn't she take it on? Really good

:25:08.:25:11.

to see as well. Look at this under water. You can tell how tired the

:25:12.:25:15.

swimmers are. Hosszu would generally go further than that. But she's a

:25:16.:25:20.

little bit tired. And Ustinova snuck this. She was in lane seven. She was

:25:21.:25:25.

fourth last year at the Olympic Games. She's not bothered about

:25:26.:25:30.

looking at the screen, just looking at the roof. Ustinova was exhausted.

:25:31.:25:34.

But she won it. # #s Caldwell was fifth. Here's an

:25:35.:25:52.

interesting one then, Kathleen Baker goes in four for the USA.

:25:53.:26:06.

I wonder if we can see big names out of the final, every chance of it

:26:07.:26:17.

happening. Germany, Steve, how many Germans have you seen so far?

:26:18.:26:21.

They've been like an endangered species this week. One medal they've

:26:22.:26:32.

had. Talk about the fall from global dominance. They used to be

:26:33.:26:35.

brilliant. They swam generally awfully badly, one silver I think. I

:26:36.:26:43.

think you're going to have one of the Olympic medallists missing out,

:26:44.:26:47.

maybe two, Hosszu and Caldwell from the previous heat. There's no

:26:48.:26:52.

slouches in the second semifinal. What a blow that would be. There

:26:53.:26:55.

would be a riot in here if Hosszu doesn't make it through. Here's the

:26:56.:27:07.

new world record holder. What can Seebohm do? She keeps coming second,

:27:08.:27:13.

third, fourth and fifth. She is the defending world champion. That's one

:27:14.:27:20.

of few titles that she's won. Kathleen Baker, world ranked number

:27:21.:27:21.

one this year. In good form Kathleen Baker, got a

:27:22.:27:41.

Silver Medal on the 100 back. This morning she did lead, she looked

:27:42.:27:45.

strong this morning, only half a second off her best time. The

:27:46.:27:49.

Americans do generally go quicker through the rounds. Excellent

:27:50.:27:55.

racers. A shame I think, Lizzie Simmonds isn't here. She's such a

:27:56.:27:59.

great 200 backstroker. She's going well at the nationals. Yeah, she

:28:00.:28:04.

certainly is. I think she swam 59. 5 yesterday. That would have got her

:28:05.:28:07.

in the final here. Wonderful to see her back. With

:28:08.:28:13.

those kind of times, may well see her in the final. Who knows what she

:28:14.:28:18.

can do from there. Second semifinal of the women's 200m backstroke.

:28:19.:28:23.

Seebohm in five, Baker in four, Masse in three.

:28:24.:28:31.

So maybe expect Masse to go off a little bit faster, the new world

:28:32.:28:40.

record holder on the 100 backstroke. A decent start, that purple suit,

:28:41.:28:44.

the black head of Kathleen Baker, the fastest in the world this year,

:28:45.:28:48.

for the USA. Just look at them all there, all three of them in a line.

:28:49.:28:52.

No surprise there, they are the top three in the world this year. Baker

:28:53.:28:58.

turns first. She's got great underwater work. She's won the NCAA,

:28:59.:29:04.

she won three titles this year. You can't win that in America unless you

:29:05.:29:09.

are strong off the walls. Those university championships producing

:29:10.:29:10.

stunning stuff. Just off the world record pace at

:29:11.:29:25.

the moment. That was set by Missy Franklin. She came back so fast,

:29:26.:29:32.

amazing. So she's 0. 19 outside that split tomorrow. Masse going with her

:29:33.:29:37.

in second. Seebohm in third. This is only a semi. They have one job to

:29:38.:29:41.

do, make the final. They're pushing hard here. They're doing well these

:29:42.:29:45.

front three. Masse will want to make a statement here. She got gold on

:29:46.:29:49.

the 100 backstroke. You know, I think Hosszu and Caldwell, the

:29:50.:29:53.

Olympic medallists from the previous semifinal, they could be safe here,

:29:54.:29:56.

because the rest of the field is way adrift. What a great race

:29:57.:30:00.

developing. They're having a right old scrap at the front, head of the

:30:01.:30:04.

race here. Masse, the Canadian. Look at Baker, she says no. Seebohm wants

:30:05.:30:09.

some of the action. Seebohm swimming this very well. Let's hope she can

:30:10.:30:14.

do a similar swim tomorrow night in the final. These three will

:30:15.:30:16.

certainly make it through. Maybe working harder than they possibly

:30:17.:30:22.

need. To -- need to. It's good to Yu-Ling Hsieh working. -- good to

:30:23.:30:27.

see Seebohm working. This is going to be pretty good. It's a fast time.

:30:28.:30:34.

Wow! So, Emily Seebohm sets a new world fastest time this year to win

:30:35.:30:41.

the sec semifinal. . There you go, that's a little

:30:42.:30:49.

better, Emily! Second was the new world record-holder on the 100m

:30:50.:30:54.

backstroke, Kylie Masse. Kathleen Baker was third.

:30:55.:30:58.

And that was a much better swim. A much better semi-. I was expecting

:30:59.:31:09.

more of that, I have to say. Really great start from the guys

:31:10.:31:14.

there. I have just realised that Seebohm, the swim was so good, it

:31:15.:31:19.

matched her Commonwealth record time, 20. .581.

:31:20.:31:24.

Really good from Seebohm. She did well to get the surgeries out of the

:31:25.:31:28.

way. Look at that still head position. A brilliant technical

:31:29.:31:32.

stroke there. But she has the experience as well. I would not have

:31:33.:31:37.

thought she could have beaten these two brilliant backstrokers. We could

:31:38.:31:42.

well have seen the medallists for tomorrow night.

:31:43.:31:46.

That will be fascinating. I was expecting to see Hosszu on the

:31:47.:31:52.

podium. But Seebohm wins it, Masse is second, Baker is third.

:31:53.:31:59.

It is going to be tight for the qualifiers for the final. Seebohm is

:32:00.:32:04.

fastest. One, two, three from the second semi. And Regan Smith, a new

:32:05.:32:11.

world junior record. 15 years of age. A very emotional Regan Smith

:32:12.:32:21.

has caught up with Sharon Davies. Fantastic swim. A world junior

:32:22.:32:28.

record. You took it to them today! Oh, my God. This is so good. I'm

:32:29.:32:33.

having a great time here. Amazing. A fantastic year. Such big

:32:34.:32:39.

improvements? I didn't perform the way that I wanted to last summer. I

:32:40.:32:44.

tried to be motivated from that and work as hard as I could this year.

:32:45.:32:50.

I'm thrilled. It is lovely going in at 15, everybody is scared of you,

:32:51.:32:55.

you have nothing to lose! I'm trying not to put too much pressure on

:32:56.:32:59.

myself. Just to have a lot of fun with it. That's what it is all

:33:00.:33:02.

about. It is very exciting. Fantastic. Good

:33:03.:33:07.

to speak with you. 15-year-old Regan Smith talking with

:33:08.:33:12.

Sharon. Yes been talking about the effect that the atmosphere has on

:33:13.:33:16.

the younger athletes. You can see that everybody can react

:33:17.:33:18.

differently. It is a bit of a pressure cooker.

:33:19.:33:25.

She has such great examples on the stage. Katie Ledecky at 15 and a

:33:26.:33:30.

history of younger guys stepping up to perform. I don't think she fears

:33:31.:33:36.

anyone as she is in an amazing opportunity. And that will be a

:33:37.:33:42.

battle it was great to see Emily Seebohm back on form and going in

:33:43.:33:48.

for tomorrow night's final. Emily Seebohm is with us now. Let's

:33:49.:33:54.

hear from her. So nice to see you swimming, Emily, it has been a

:33:55.:33:59.

really challenging time? Yes, it has. I have spoken to you about the

:34:00.:34:06.

past, so it was nice to get out there and swim freely.

:34:07.:34:10.

And it must give you quite a lot of confidence? We were watching to see

:34:11.:34:14.

how it went. I thought it was a quick heat. But then our heat had to

:34:15.:34:18.

step it up. It couldn't get faster than that. It

:34:19.:34:21.

was close to your Commonwealth record? Yeah. We'll see tomorrow

:34:22.:34:26.

night. I'm excited to see what I can do. Have a rest in the morning and

:34:27.:34:31.

hopefully swim fast. Let's see. Good luck.

:34:32.:34:36.

Now he is world champion in the 50 fly. We will see in action this

:34:37.:34:45.

evening in the 50 free. Mark Foster has been talking about the

:34:46.:34:51.

brilliance of our boy, Ben. In Budapest, all of the talk has been

:34:52.:34:57.

about Adam Petey. What he has done has been pen foamal. He has done the

:34:58.:35:03.

double. But cast your mind back. Minutes after Petey stepped out on

:35:04.:35:08.

to the pool, another Britain was stepping out tonne the blocks. This

:35:09.:35:13.

was Ben Proud's third championships, he was leaving nothing in the tank.

:35:14.:35:19.

Blink and you may have missed it. Has he got the finish? I think he

:35:20.:35:23.

has. He has won the World Championship.

:35:24.:35:31.

Taking gold by a 0.04 of a second was amazing. In a stacked field that

:35:32.:35:40.

included Olympic 100m butterfly champion, this was a message, a

:35:41.:35:46.

signal of intent. Ben's surprise was obvious. This had been the dream

:35:47.:35:50.

since he was a little boy. And I remember that dream. Was he inspired

:35:51.:35:55.

by his team-mate? His friend? Almost certainly. Ben's been a talent for a

:35:56.:36:05.

long time. But how many hundredths of a second is belief worth? He will

:36:06.:36:10.

take that? Was it the perfect 50 fly? Almost. Now for the 50

:36:11.:36:15.

freestyle. Can he repeat the trick? Can he become the fastest man on the

:36:16.:36:20.

planet? Ben says that the 50 butterfly is the one he dreamed of

:36:21.:36:25.

but the 50 free is the one he trained for. He's the fastest in the

:36:26.:36:31.

world this year. The at the Rio owe Olympics he missed gold by 0.2 of a

:36:32.:36:37.

second. But he's a world champion now. So I ask you again, how much is

:36:38.:36:39.

belief worth? Well, you join us as the American

:36:40.:36:51.

National Anthem is playing out for Simone Manuel who won the 100m

:36:52.:36:58.

freestyle. Nice for her to be up on the podium by herself. Last year she

:36:59.:37:03.

shared it in a joint gold. But this time at the World Championships she

:37:04.:37:06.

is up there by herself in a thrilling race that saw her nudge

:37:07.:37:12.

Sarah Sjostrom into second place. Right, Mark Foster, let's talk about

:37:13.:37:18.

Ben Proud it was your event. You have watched his career closely. You

:37:19.:37:24.

know him. He is a raw talent. I feel we have spoken about Ben's potential

:37:25.:37:28.

for a long time. Do you feel this is him announcing himself properly on

:37:29.:37:33.

the world stage? Very much so. Three years ago he did the double on

:37:34.:37:39.

the 50 free and the 50 fly and set world-class beating times. But in

:37:40.:37:43.

the Olympic Games he came fourth and came close to winning a medal and

:37:44.:37:48.

seeing him here on the 50 fly. It is a race that I swam a lot. A lot can

:37:49.:37:54.

go wrong if you try to hard it is the person that stays relaxed and

:37:55.:37:59.

sticks to the race plan, I talk about the perfect race, Monday night

:38:00.:38:03.

he did his perfect race. But I still think he can go faster. He got

:38:04.:38:07.

everything right. If he does it again on the 50 free, who knows what

:38:08.:38:11.

might happen. I could ask you what you make of his

:38:12.:38:17.

year but earlier, Ben posted the fastest time in the world over the

:38:18.:38:23.

50 free. Here he is in April. 21.54 is the qualification time and

:38:24.:38:27.

not the first time we have seen it this week Where the qualification

:38:28.:38:33.

standard has been the British record but the swimmer in that race is

:38:34.:38:37.

swimming against his personal best. Look at him go. Straightaway.

:38:38.:38:42.

Powering through the water. Giving us goose bumps. Ben Proud is coming

:38:43.:38:46.

through the final ten. He is moving from everybody.

:38:47.:38:52.

The time will be 21.32! Over two tenths of a second quicker than his

:38:53.:38:58.

own British record! A proud mum and family up on the screen. Cheering

:38:59.:39:05.

away! I love the way that his brother and mum clocked the camera

:39:06.:39:09.

at the end there. Sure they should celebrate. It is a family affair.

:39:10.:39:13.

But let's talk about Ben's performance. If you post a time like

:39:14.:39:18.

that with the World Championships on the horizon, how does it affect your

:39:19.:39:22.

head and physical prepare? You start believing. He has had a big shift

:39:23.:39:27.

this year. He has had a new coach. It can go one or two ways. He is in

:39:28.:39:35.

Turkey training with James Gibson, who coached Florian Manadu in 2012

:39:36.:39:41.

and got an owe Olympic gold and silver. So. He is doing similar

:39:42.:39:47.

training but changing it slightly. The human body, it gets used to what

:39:48.:39:52.

you give it. So a little change is a good thing. It has pushed him on. He

:39:53.:40:01.

has improved over his 50 metres. Every year if I improved 100th of a

:40:02.:40:07.

second, I would be pleased. So it is that, coupled with belief. And I

:40:08.:40:12.

think he is standing there thinking he fancies himself in the race! He

:40:13.:40:18.

is surrounded in terms of team-mates by his friends.

:40:19.:40:25.

Obviously Ben did the 50m heat. What do you think he can do? Ben is a

:40:26.:40:30.

quiet person. But when he is in the water, before the race, he can come

:40:31.:40:34.

into his own. You don't know what to expect of Ben. Before the final 50

:40:35.:40:41.

flies, you think he could go 22.9, whatever he went but he has a way of

:40:42.:40:45.

going through the water and beating everybody. So, I'm confident he can

:40:46.:40:49.

pull something out. But we'll see what we get. Are you hoping Ben gets

:40:50.:40:55.

the golds so you can get two golds together? 100%. Oh, you think he

:40:56.:41:04.

will? Yeah, he is a 21 free guy! Becky, when you are an owe Olympic

:41:05.:41:10.

champion on a team, do you feel a responsibility to share the

:41:11.:41:15.

confidence and lift everybody a bit like Adam will with Ben? When I

:41:16.:41:21.

spoke to Adam earlier, he says he feels that but let's everyone do

:41:22.:41:27.

their thing. Ben is quiet but statement, he is concentrating on

:41:28.:41:30.

his event. He is very much looking forward to tonight. I thought he

:41:31.:41:34.

looked tired this morning. So hopefully he can get a good swim in

:41:35.:41:39.

tonight. With big names and muscles in this

:41:40.:41:49.

one. The first semi-finals. Caeleb Dressel is the fastest qualifier for

:41:50.:41:54.

the first semifinal. But the fastest man in the world is in three.

:41:55.:42:00.

Dressel in four, Proud in three. Nathan Adrian is in two.

:42:01.:42:05.

And here is Great Britain's Ben Proud. The Commonwealth champion.

:42:06.:42:09.

The fastest man in the water this year. A Gold Medal on the 50

:42:10.:42:24.

butterfly. Outstanding. I can't see anyone getting past this

:42:25.:42:29.

guy, Caeleb Dressel, what a revelation he has been this week.

:42:30.:42:32.

The starts, Andy. When I see them, I can't get my head

:42:33.:42:36.

around how he is generating that force? It is not just the leap off

:42:37.:42:44.

the blocks, you may see it in a second, he has a massive vertical

:42:45.:42:48.

leap. But he maintains the momentum through the water. The perfect

:42:49.:42:55.

timing of the first kick. Fantastic underwater work with his legs. He is

:42:56.:43:01.

a about 0.8th of a metre deep. He then explodes to the surface. A

:43:02.:43:06.

fantastic start. He will be in the centre. And Nathan Adrian is not

:43:07.:43:11.

slow. There he goes again. He really leaps high.

:43:12.:43:19.

He is looking for a super start here. I wonder if he will go all out

:43:20.:43:26.

here or hold a little bit back? Ben Proud is three from the top in lane

:43:27.:43:36.

three. Dressel is in four. The first semifinal of the men's 50m

:43:37.:43:41.

freestyle. This could be the order of the semifinal. Caeleb Dressel, he

:43:42.:43:45.

has taken a half a metre from the rest of the field. Ben Proud is

:43:46.:43:53.

going well in lane three. He has a job to do. It looks like it will be

:43:54.:44:01.

Dressel. He gets it. 21.29. The new fastest man in the water in the

:44:02.:44:11.

world is Caeleb Dressel of the USA. Second was Morisov. And then third

:44:12.:44:16.

for Ben Proud. That is good for Ben Proud. Proud

:44:17.:44:23.

has done the job. Nathan Adrian was fourth.

:44:24.:44:28.

Caeleb Dressel in on the start. He is getting his hands in 30

:44:29.:44:34.

centimetres further forward. That is the first step with that big a lead

:44:35.:44:39.

it is hard for the other guys to catch up. Caeleb Dressel came off it

:44:40.:44:44.

over the last three to four metres. Look at this, into the wall. Job

:44:45.:44:47.

done. Pretty comfortable in the end.

:44:48.:44:55.

16100ths. The margin of the victory. Good for Ben Proud there. He was

:44:56.:45:04.

21.9 this morning. 21.6 tonight. So the first semifinal tonight.

:45:05.:45:11.

Amazing, Caeleb Dressel. Morozov. And then Ben Proud for Great

:45:12.:45:15.

Britain. Nathan Adrian is in a sticky position in fourth. And the

:45:16.:45:20.

second semifinal. It is not good to pick names but they were quick in

:45:21.:45:25.

the heats. Fastest for Finland. And Brazil.

:45:26.:45:30.

Look at that lot. Andy, how good have the Brazilians

:45:31.:45:34.

been this week?! They've been fantastic. They've medaled in every

:45:35.:45:40.

single 50 this week. Whatever the secret is, they seem to have it.

:45:41.:45:48.

They also got a Gold Medal in the women's 50m backstroke.

:45:49.:45:56.

Silver on the 50m broke stroke. Silver on the 50m fly stroke. And

:45:57.:45:58.

now Sharon is with Ben Proud. Definitely going in the right

:45:59.:46:05.

direction, pleased with that one this evening? Yeah, I mean, 50 free

:46:06.:46:10.

is all about getting through the rounds. I think I've put myself in a

:46:11.:46:15.

good position. It's not anything like my best time. But considering I

:46:16.:46:20.

feel like I can go faster tomorrow, and 21. 6 is OK. It's very

:46:21.:46:28.

consistent. You've been 21. 3 this year, you know you can do this.

:46:29.:46:32.

After seeing my fly, I'm there. It's all about getting that swim out. I

:46:33.:46:38.

know it's possible. Getting things together, getting everything right.

:46:39.:46:43.

Putting the finishing right like I'm supposed to. I can get close to that

:46:44.:46:49.

time. Tomorrow's the final. Hopefully I make it through and it

:46:50.:46:54.

will be another good race. Pretty sure you'll make it through. Good

:46:55.:46:55.

luck tomorrow. Thank you. I'm reasonably confident for Ben

:46:56.:47:08.

Proud to make the final. The one I'm less so is Nathan Adrian, the big

:47:09.:47:11.

American. Wouldn't it be something if he didn't make the final. At 6'6"

:47:12.:47:16.

you don't want to see him upset! Fingers crossed he gets through.

:47:17.:47:22.

Lane two for Brazil, world record holder here.

:47:23.:47:32.

McEvoy of Australia. He goes in six. The world junior champion he was

:47:33.:47:40.

five years ago. He hasn't quite stepped up. He's so talented. The

:47:41.:47:52.

fastest men in the world in this 50m freestyle. The first semi was very

:47:53.:47:58.

quick. This is the second. In the centre, the Brazilian, got a Silver

:47:59.:48:03.

Medal in the men's four by 100 relay. The world record holder in

:48:04.:48:07.

two is going well. Could Brazil get one, two here? Fratus gets it.

:48:08.:48:21.

That's the same time Ben Proud got in third place in the first

:48:22.:48:29.

semifinal. The world record holder went down in fifth position. I

:48:30.:48:33.

think, you know, that Nathan Adrian is in a bit of trouble here. Because

:48:34.:48:38.

that was a very tight second semi. It really was. More conventional

:48:39.:48:42.

semi. No-one really heading the race there. Almost in a straight line.

:48:43.:48:47.

There's Fratus. Beautiful high elbows. He pulls away in the last

:48:48.:48:51.

ten metres. Gets his hand on the wall for the victory. Andy,

:48:52.:48:57.

honestly, could have gone anywhere. Where did it go, to lane four. Job

:48:58.:49:06.

done. Into the final. He'll be equal third fastest with Ben Proud.

:49:07.:49:21.

So the finalists for this men's 50 freestyle:

:49:22.:49:34.

McEvoy not in. Nathan Adrian not in. Dotto not in, wow. Some big chaps

:49:35.:49:47.

have missed out there. Ben Proud seemed confident in his chat with

:49:48.:49:51.

Sharon. He seemed more relaxed. You've talked about belief. Sounded

:49:52.:49:54.

like he had it. Can he go faster tomorrow night? Definitely. We saw

:49:55.:49:59.

that from the heats, the semi, the final of the 50 fly. His heat this

:50:00.:50:05.

morning 21. 9, 21. 6, I'm not saying he can drop another 0. 3, but he

:50:06.:50:09.

can. He's proved in the final he can drag that extra bit out of himself.

:50:10.:50:13.

When you get adrenaline, it goes one of two ways. Sometimes it's a bit of

:50:14.:50:17.

fear, other times a bit of excitement. If you use it in the

:50:18.:50:20.

right way anything's possible for him. Hearing him talk, he is taking

:50:21.:50:24.

confidence from the fly final earlier in the week. Let's relive

:50:25.:50:28.

what he did in the semifinal of the 50 free. If you were his coach, what

:50:29.:50:33.

would you say? Just do much of the same. The difficulty is there's not

:50:34.:50:37.

much you can change from now until tomorrow apart from rest and get as

:50:38.:50:41.

much sleep as possible. Just stick to your race plan. Dressel in the

:50:42.:50:44.

middle there, he just destroys everybody on the start. Everything

:50:45.:50:50.

he wins by and probably, actually when he gets to the wall, Ben, well

:50:51.:50:55.

all of them, are coming back towards him. The damage Dressel does is on

:50:56.:51:02.

the start. The boys mention today in commentary. Half a metre on

:51:03.:51:08.

everybody at the start. What everybody is doing at the moment is

:51:09.:51:13.

slow mo-ing his start so they can do the same thing. I think he has an

:51:14.:51:18.

unbelievable vertical jump and that's just something he's got. Can

:51:19.:51:23.

he smash that long standing world record? Who, Dressel? No. Not

:51:24.:51:29.

tonight. Obviously - tomorrow. Unless he's got a time machine. Ben

:51:30.:51:33.

Proud we'll see in the 50m freestyle final tomorrow night. This evening

:51:34.:51:39.

we're going to see Ross Murdoch, the European 200m breaststroke champion,

:51:40.:51:42.

Commonwealth 200m champion, can he do it on a truly global stage? He's

:51:43.:51:52.

been talking to Nick. What is it about breaststroke at the

:51:53.:51:55.

moment and Britain? I have no idea. I picked a good time to come in at

:51:56.:52:00.

it. There's so much depth as well, the breaststroke is getting so, so

:52:01.:52:03.

tough. We've seen people make teams and miss out in the last couple of

:52:04.:52:09.

years. Just because there is so many people, just, if you're having a bad

:52:10.:52:12.

day, someone immediately fills the gap. There's no room for error in

:52:13.:52:16.

breaststroke in Britain any more. You've got to be on your best on the

:52:17.:52:20.

day, every day. How important is this year to you? It would be fair

:52:21.:52:25.

so say last year was a roller coaster. Yeah, last year was a weird

:52:26.:52:29.

one. I didn't have a great trials and had an amazing European

:52:30.:52:32.

championships. Then didn't have a great Olympic Games. It was a bit of

:52:33.:52:37.

a roller coaster for me. Did leave me in quite a bad place post Rio and

:52:38.:52:41.

it took a long time to recover mentally from that. I'm happy that I

:52:42.:52:48.

made the world championships. It w important to me to -- it's important

:52:49.:52:54.

to me to make the team. Ross Murdoch we will see this evening at 6pm in

:52:55.:52:59.

the final of the 200m breaststroke. Stick around for that. He spoke

:53:00.:53:03.

about not having the run in to this that he would have wanted. Will that

:53:04.:53:07.

fire him up for tonight? When he spoke to Sharon after the semifinals

:53:08.:53:12.

yesterday he sounded so positive and just sounded like he was back loving

:53:13.:53:15.

the sport, having fun. He seemed in a really good place. Sorry, it got

:53:16.:53:20.

really loud. He's in a good place after the semifinals. He looked

:53:21.:53:25.

amazing. Let's look at it again. Plenty of reasons to be positive.

:53:26.:53:28.

What do you make of his tactics in that? He mentioned it himself,

:53:29.:53:32.

there's so many ways to swim the race. We've seen Efimova take the

:53:33.:53:36.

first 100m really slowly and negative split it on the back. What

:53:37.:53:41.

he does, you saw in the semifinal here, he dominated his semifinal. It

:53:42.:53:45.

will be interesting come the final when he goes you know what, I'm

:53:46.:53:48.

going to take this on. As we've seen tonight with Rylov on the backstroke

:53:49.:53:53.

or do I sit with the others and then try to blow them out down the last

:53:54.:53:56.

length? It could be a cat-and-mouse scenario. It's the best I've seen

:53:57.:54:00.

him look since 2014, the last three years, when he went number one in

:54:01.:54:04.

the world. The semifinal was really spread out. Lane four, lane seven.

:54:05.:54:09.

Tonight, he is right in that mix. I think it's going to be who can get

:54:10.:54:12.

their hand on the wall first. There'll be a lot of tactics. I

:54:13.:54:15.

think Ross looks in great shape. Ross has shown in the past, he can

:54:16.:54:19.

step up on a world stage. He can do it. We've seen him under big

:54:20.:54:25.

pressure being able to perform. It's one of these things for him, as

:54:26.:54:30.

well, we've seen him trying to cover the 100 and the 200, his event is

:54:31.:54:34.

the 200. If you look at his stroke now on the 200, it looks perfect. We

:54:35.:54:39.

could talk for an hour about team tactics and qualification and why he

:54:40.:54:42.

maybe hasn't had the opportunity to do the 200 breaststroke in the past,

:54:43.:54:46.

but that's irrelevant now. This is his opportunity. This is his chance

:54:47.:54:49.

to take it and make it his own. Yeah, and the thing is he practises

:54:50.:54:53.

back home because of the depth that we have in British swimming over the

:54:54.:54:57.

breaststroke, with the women included, so much depth, these guys

:54:58.:55:00.

are having to swim fast at trials, where some of our events, you're

:55:01.:55:04.

seeing they're not swimming as fast and then they struggle on the world

:55:05.:55:07.

stage. Because breaststroke is so good, they're used to the pressure.

:55:08.:55:11.

Otherwise you don't make a team. So many good British breaststrokers in

:55:12.:55:14.

the men's event but also a real depth in field when it comes to the

:55:15.:55:20.

women's event in the equivalent race for the women's 200m breaststroke we

:55:21.:55:29.

see Molly Renshaw. It's a younger squad now. It's good to have new

:55:30.:55:34.

people on the team. We knew it would be fresh faces after Rio. How tough

:55:35.:55:38.

is it to keep pushing yourself to the top of sport at the moment with

:55:39.:55:41.

so much talent there? I think it's kept me on my toes and this year, I

:55:42.:55:47.

was I guess it keeps me training hard because I know I can't get

:55:48.:55:51.

comfortable with what I'm doing. There's always people coming

:55:52.:55:53.

through. That gets me through the graft every day knowing that people

:55:54.:55:57.

are coming. What is the target for Budapest? I'd love to be dipping

:55:58.:56:04.

under 2. 22; hopefully that will get me on the podium. She clearly knows

:56:05.:56:09.

what she needs to do to get amongst the medals. Can she do it? She's

:56:10.:56:14.

more than capable of it. I don't know whether it will happen quite

:56:15.:56:19.

tonight. She's in lane one, which is a hard place to be. Efimova, who I

:56:20.:56:25.

think is comfortable to say that she probably will win it, she even

:56:26.:56:29.

splits it. She will go out slow and come back. Last night, I thought

:56:30.:56:33.

Molly started really well and looked really smooth the first 200 and then

:56:34.:56:37.

tightened in the last 200m. In this event you need to be good down the

:56:38.:56:41.

last 50. You know Efimova is coming if she's not already in the lead.

:56:42.:56:45.

It's good being in lane one, though. She won't get carried away with

:56:46.:56:49.

anything going on here. You don't know what Efimova is going to do. If

:56:50.:56:54.

you were swimming next to Efimova, it is so misleading. Look at what

:56:55.:56:59.

what haed last night. -- what happened last night. You think, oh,

:57:00.:57:06.

well - You'd think she was gone. She's in lane seven in the pink hat.

:57:07.:57:10.

Nowhere near the front of the pack. Look what happens. She even splits

:57:11.:57:18.

it. You've got to remember the first 200 metres has a dive. She sticks to

:57:19.:57:24.

her own tactics. Everyone has their own tactics. You've got to stick to

:57:25.:57:28.

your race plan. If Molly does that she's more than capable. She's been

:57:29.:57:37.

a it. 22 low. She is -- a 2. 22 low. She needs to stick to her plan,

:57:38.:57:41.

block everything out and concentrate on her lane and doing her own thing.

:57:42.:57:46.

I don't think Efimova will do that tonight in this final and ease back

:57:47.:57:49.

that much. She can't afford to give too much away come the final. She's

:57:50.:57:53.

got more in the tank. I think she will probably sit with the others

:57:54.:57:58.

and blow them away. She's in a comfortable position where she could

:57:59.:58:01.

probably do any race and win it. I don't think she'll leave it to

:58:02.:58:06.

chance. Molly, if she sticks with Smith, or those two have their own

:58:07.:58:10.

race, and forgets about anyone, she has clear water on her side. No-one

:58:11.:58:14.

else is putting her off so there's a shout. There's a shout of a medal.

:58:15.:58:20.

Efimova just from the world rankings this year is two seconds ahead of

:58:21.:58:24.

the rest of the field. Have you to forget her a bit. A bit like with

:58:25.:58:31.

Ledecky. If Molly does, that I think she's got great experience and she's

:58:32.:58:36.

capable. Good luck Molly. She goes now in the women's 200m breaststroke

:58:37.:58:46.

final. So Yuliya Efimova is the fastest

:58:47.:58:50.

qualifier, she was the world champion two world championships ago

:58:51.:58:57.

in 2013. I'm not sure we've seen the best of her yet. She nearly broke

:58:58.:59:02.

the world record earlier this year. Maybe she could do it here, would be

:59:03.:59:06.

fascinating to see how she goes. Next to her is Bethany Galat of the

:59:07.:59:12.

USA, her first major Championship. She set a lifetime best to get into

:59:13.:59:15.

this final. She's qualified second fastest. She's right next to Yuliya

:59:16.:59:22.

Efimova. Here is Efimova. Well, Steve, she drove us nuts in the

:59:23.:59:28.

semifinal. Yeah, as Becky alluded to, she outsplits the rest of the

:59:29.:59:32.

field by over a second and outsplits Lilly King by two seconds. Lilly

:59:33.:59:35.

King will be in eight. She's out of the way. She can swim her own race.

:59:36.:59:41.

Efimova right in the middle. All the way through these breaststroke

:59:42.:59:44.

events have been dubbed a show down between King and Efimova. Last

:59:45.:59:51.

night, King was not at the races. She looked terrible. She nearly

:59:52.:00:02.

missed the final. She only just made it.

:00:03.:00:19.

Molly Renshaw is in lane one for Great Britain.

:00:20.:00:23.

This is going to be really hard to follow. Lane eight Lilly King. Lane

:00:24.:00:29.

one Molly Renshaw, Great Britain. Efimova, right in the centre in

:00:30.:00:37.

four. Women's 200m breaststroke final. We saw Yuliya Efimova split

:00:38.:00:44.

1. 10 at the 1 #4u7b metres in the semifinal. -- 100 metres in the

:00:45.:00:49.

semifinal. She came back and wasn't actually that far off the world

:00:50.:00:52.

record at the end. Look at this, King is going for it again. Bottom

:00:53.:00:56.

of your screen there. She won the 100m. Set a world record. We know

:00:57.:01:00.

that she's got easy speed. Maybe she's convinced that the way to beat

:01:01.:01:04.

Efimova here is to go out hard and hold on. That can be a very, very

:01:05.:01:08.

painful way of doing. It look at that, she's under world record pace.

:01:09.:01:13.

Efimova in the middle there, going out faster than she did last night.

:01:14.:01:17.

She is and on the right side of that shot is Great Britain's Molly

:01:18.:01:23.

Renshaw. She's going well down this first 75 metres. She's picked it up

:01:24.:01:28.

pretty well. McKeon is going well in the yellow hat of Australia, two

:01:29.:01:32.

from the right. Look at this, Lilly King, well, she was the American

:01:33.:01:37.

collegiate champion. In that she got the gold. The silver went to lane

:01:38.:01:46.

two, Kierra Smith of can da. -- Canada. Efimova's looking dangerous

:01:47.:01:52.

here. She's two seconds quicker than in the semifinal. I've got my eyes

:01:53.:01:56.

on the top of the screen there. Molly Renshaw, she's the model of

:01:57.:02:00.

smooth and efficient breaststroke swimming. She's going to need her

:02:01.:02:04.

Sunday best here in order to get down in those medal positions. She's

:02:05.:02:09.

been 2. 22. Let's hope she can do it here.

:02:10.:02:10.

Psych Fwlb Yuliya Efimova is starting to

:02:11.:02:24.

wind this up. This is interesting. She comes back fast down the last

:02:25.:02:29.

50. Do you think this is on, Steve? She came back in 35 seconds

:02:30.:02:35.

yesterday. If she does it here, she will smash the world record. And

:02:36.:02:43.

also, Molly Renshaw on course for a minor record.

:02:44.:02:47.

Can she break this world record? It was set a long time ago in the

:02:48.:02:57.

Barcelona championships by Pedersen. The time is just outside. The gold

:02:58.:03:03.

is clear to eof of Russia, the silver to the rookie, Bethany Galat

:03:04.:03:08.

of the USA, and the bronze to Shi of China. Didn't expect that. Molly

:03:09.:03:15.

Renshaw finishing in a pretty decent position in the end, sixth.

:03:16.:03:19.

Well, Yuliya Efimova destroyed the field there. Unfortunately for her

:03:20.:03:23.

she missed out on the world record but she took the rest of the field

:03:24.:03:28.

apart, didn't she. She doesn't look that bothered. A little bit of a

:03:29.:03:33.

smile. I think she had the world record in mind.

:03:34.:03:40.

She has gone 19.8 in season, she has gone two seconds faster than in

:03:41.:03:43.

training. Interesting. But she can do these times all the

:03:44.:03:47.

way through the season. A beautiful stroke. Yuliya Efimova has her

:03:48.:03:53.

critics but there is no doubt she has a beautiful stroke. A great take

:03:54.:04:00.

off the wall there as well. She has the stamina to bring it through at

:04:01.:04:05.

the end. She always does it. She does, in which case, why does

:04:06.:04:11.

she not go quicker at the start?! Steve, tell her! She has to go

:04:12.:04:17.

faster down the first 100. 68 is not quick enough to break the world

:04:18.:04:26.

record. Yulia, come on. She got a bronze the last time.

:04:27.:04:36.

Shi, of China, sorry, got a bronze. So, Yuliya Efimova just outside of

:04:37.:04:41.

the world record. She takes the gold. Bethany Galat the silver medal

:04:42.:04:47.

and shy shy shy of China, the bronze medal.

:04:48.:04:53.

There she is. A controversial character, she failed a drug's test

:04:54.:04:58.

going into the owe Olympics. She was in, appealed, out, backwards and

:04:59.:05:01.

forwards for a long time. She was in the Olympics. She is here at the

:05:02.:05:05.

World Championships, taking that title. How will it go down with the

:05:06.:05:10.

other women in the field? To be fair, I saw her hugging her other

:05:11.:05:15.

competitors, which in the 100m didn't happen. Lilly King did not

:05:16.:05:22.

want to shake her hand. I saw the other athletes have congratulated

:05:23.:05:27.

her, so they have put it aside. Let's hear from Molly Renshaw. She

:05:28.:05:34.

is with Sharron now. Molly, you said it would take a high

:05:35.:05:40.

21. You were spot on. I knew that I had to get out there

:05:41.:05:46.

quickly and be strong and hold on. I am back to get down under 22. It is

:05:47.:05:51.

something that I wanted to achieve. It would have been great to get a PB

:05:52.:05:58.

A on the podium. But I'm still happy with that.

:05:59.:06:04.

You are more consistent these days? Being with the team, I have had the

:06:05.:06:08.

chance to learn a lot and get the experience. Now I'm enjoying racing

:06:09.:06:14.

in the finals. What can we expect from you?

:06:15.:06:19.

Hopefully at the Commonwealth Games I can get on the podium.

:06:20.:06:24.

You have great depth in the break stroke. It helps to motivate people

:06:25.:06:30.

at home? It definitely keeps you on your t oes. There are people coming

:06:31.:06:36.

through all the time. I can never slack off in training. It is hard

:06:37.:06:41.

enough to make the team, never mind getting to the final.

:06:42.:06:45.

It has been like that with the men's traditionally but now in the women's

:06:46.:06:51.

too? Yes, definitely. The women were behind but now so many contenders

:06:52.:06:56.

are in the top ten in the world. So it is very tough but it's

:06:57.:07:00.

challenging. Commiserations to Molly Renshaw.

:07:01.:07:06.

Next up is the men's 100m butterfly. In the 2 hundreds it was fiercely

:07:07.:07:20.

fought between Laszlo Cseh and Salman last last Chad Chad.

:07:21.:07:28.

-- Chad. If you know Laszlo Cseh, if it was

:07:29.:07:34.

not for Michael Phelps, this would be one of the greatest swimmers of

:07:35.:07:37.

all time. He would be top two.

:07:38.:07:42.

Michael, it is crazy that the last race it was the three of us on the

:07:43.:07:46.

podium together. It was a great way to end, I guess.

:07:47.:07:51.

And who would have thought it with these three guys. Three of the

:07:52.:07:59.

medalsists last year. Chad le Clos and of course, Michael

:08:00.:08:02.

Phelps. This is the slower of the two

:08:03.:08:06.

semi-finals. Gold and two silvers are in this.

:08:07.:08:15.

And killer, Dressel is in the second semifinal right next to James Guy of

:08:16.:08:18.

Great Britain. Who would have thought it? ? ! So Cseh in two.

:08:19.:08:41.

Clos is in three. Well, there is a little bit of

:08:42.:08:45.

snatching there in the middle of the lanes.

:08:46.:08:50.

The strokes don't like so smooth for Clos.

:08:51.:08:55.

Matteriness is going well. When will Chad le Clos and Laszlo

:08:56.:09:00.

Cseh start to make a move? Matteriness was up and swimming four

:09:01.:09:04.

or five strokes before everybody else. There has been chatter about

:09:05.:09:09.

breaking Michael Phelps' world record. Let's check it. It is 49.82.

:09:10.:09:20.

This will be interesting. 49.82. 50.08 from Schooling. A decent swim

:09:21.:09:27.

from him Schooling wins the first semifinal. Second was Laszlo Cseh

:09:28.:09:35.

and gracious me, Chad le Clos will not make the final.

:09:36.:09:46.

If you are Chad le Clos, you are on the wrong side of the numbers. Last

:09:47.:09:56.

last was storming down like a freight train.

:09:57.:10:01.

I can see Chad le Clos holding his head, thinking what has he done. I

:10:02.:10:07.

think he was trying to play tack, and he has mucked it up royalally to be

:10:08.:10:11.

polite. That is Schooling.

:10:12.:10:23.

And Bert le Clos, he is not happy. Schooling, if he gets that right

:10:24.:10:29.

technically, he will do well. But the owe Olympic champion does not

:10:30.:10:34.

look a patch. And poor Chad le Clos, too right, a shake of the head. So

:10:35.:10:42.

the first semifinal. A bit of a shock, Schooling wins, that is not a

:10:43.:10:45.

surprise but Chad le Clos, he will not make the final. I'm sure about

:10:46.:10:50.

that. Those guys are smiling. And no wonder.

:10:51.:10:57.

So the second semifinal. And look there, the new superstar, Caeleb

:10:58.:11:01.

Dressel in four. He almost broke the world record. I wonder if he can do

:11:02.:11:09.

it here. Right nation next to James Guy.

:11:10.:11:13.

I think this one I don't have the pressure on me. In that aspect it is

:11:14.:11:22.

getting in the PB s. Are you feeling like the James Guy of 2015? I do.

:11:23.:11:30.

Doing this two years ago, the same set, my times are faster than that.

:11:31.:11:33.

It is there. A storm is coming.

:11:34.:11:44.

Well, let's hope that the storm does come in this, the semifinal. He set

:11:45.:11:52.

a new British record, James Guy to qualify for the semifinal. He is in

:11:53.:12:02.

the men's 4x400m this evening. But this guy, Mehdy Metella, what a

:12:03.:12:05.

beast he is. So strong. He is better known for the 100 fly

:12:06.:12:11.

in the past. This guy is interesting, Kristov

:12:12.:12:20.

Milak. Well, the storm is coming. Let's hope so. James Guy in five.

:12:21.:12:27.

The new British record-holder. He is right next to an ab-Hewitt

:12:28.:12:32.

sensation, Caeleb Dressel. Well he starts as fast as the starting gun.

:12:33.:12:45.

50708 for his 100m butterfly. The world record set with the shiny

:12:46.:12:51.

suits that have now been banned. Well, a lot of people in swimming

:12:52.:12:56.

believe that Michael Phelps world record was unbreakable, the one that

:12:57.:13:02.

no-one would ever get. People criticised Dressel, thinking that

:13:03.:13:06.

the freestyle and the 100 butterfly double was not able to do. But he

:13:07.:13:10.

has left everyone eating their words.

:13:11.:13:14.

There is Dressel and his starts and his turns are something to be hold.

:13:15.:13:21.

I think there is a lot of video recorders on slow motion focussing

:13:22.:13:27.

is His vertical jump is phenomenal.

:13:28.:13:37.

James Guy, I think he broke an 8-year-old Michael Rock 100m

:13:38.:13:40.

butterfly record. So he is really up for it. And he has put his name in

:13:41.:13:45.

the conversation for a medal. But he has to do it here.

:13:46.:13:50.

He has to go sub-51. It would be great to see him doing that. All

:13:51.:13:55.

eyes in this pool will be on Caeleb Dressel in four. Can he go sub-50?

:13:56.:14:02.

Can he break Michael Phelps' world record? I can't believe I'm saying

:14:03.:14:05.

that. And Dressel is in the centre. There

:14:06.:14:12.

he is. He is almost a metre ahead. Xraurt.

:14:13.:14:17.

Let's use this fella next to you. Get on his shoulder, James and get

:14:18.:14:23.

in the final tomorrow night. This guy is known formidle distax but he

:14:24.:14:27.

loves the big events. He is taking on Dressel. Look at the time, a

:14:28.:14:35.

tenth of a second under Michael Phelps' world record.

:14:36.:14:39.

And faster than in the heats this morning. He was outside of world

:14:40.:14:43.

record. James Guy is having a go at it! Mehdy Metella of France is going

:14:44.:14:52.

well. So the world record is 49.82. Oh, just outside! 50.06 for Dressel.

:14:53.:15:01.

James Guy 50.67. He is second. A massive new British record. That is

:15:02.:15:09.

quite outstanding! Wow! Third was Milak of Hungary.

:15:10.:15:15.

50.6! Yes, Jimmy. Well done. He's done it. 5076. He is faster than the

:15:16.:15:22.

reigning Olympic champion. And he was not scared at all of Dressel. He

:15:23.:15:28.

took him on down the first 50. How pumped up will he be for the 4x200m

:15:29.:15:35.

later. He will be full of confidence for that 4x200m. Well off the blocks

:15:36.:15:39.

as well. Well, we are leaping and jumping

:15:40.:15:46.

around in the commentary box! How coal was Dressel? There is the turn.

:15:47.:15:52.

A quick turn around. The elbow comes around so fast. I'll play that again

:15:53.:15:57.

in slow motion. That was so beautiful to watch.

:15:58.:16:01.

I can't get my breath around James Guy. This is a fella that one the

:16:02.:16:09.

400 freestyle. He is showing such class, Dressel and Guy.

:16:10.:16:14.

So there is confirmation of the second semifinal. Dressel wins it.

:16:15.:16:21.

James Guy, a new British record. A new world junior for Milak.

:16:22.:16:30.

Records all over the place! Let's have a look at the qualifiers for

:16:31.:16:34.

the final. James Guy will be in the centre lane. Look at that. Dressel

:16:35.:16:40.

is fastest. Guy second fasters into the 100 fly final. Schooling is in

:16:41.:16:48.

there, Cseh is in there, and Metella. This is brilliant. Chad le

:16:49.:16:56.

Clos, 12th. Oh, dear. Sharroon is talking to Chad le Clos.

:16:57.:17:01.

Rib rattly slower? I have no words -- deliberately slower? I have no

:17:02.:17:11.

words. You can't take it for granted. I paid the price I guess.

:17:12.:17:13.

Absolutely. Thank you for stopping. COMMENTATOR: Absolutely brilliant at

:17:14.:17:27.

the moment. In about 15 minutes you will see

:17:28.:17:46.

that man, Ross Murdoch in the 200m breaststroke final. Let's talk about

:17:47.:17:53.

James Guy, how big was that swim? That was the ninth fastest ever time

:17:54.:17:59.

let alone a huge British record. I hope he's left something for the

:18:00.:18:07.

relay later on. We don't see James doing fly that often. He rocks up

:18:08.:18:14.

and does it. He would have won a medal in the world championships, in

:18:15.:18:19.

the Olympics, second. Becky says he breathes every stroke, it looks a

:18:20.:18:24.

bit strange. But the great Michael Phelps breathed every stroke. He has

:18:25.:18:28.

a good rhythm, good timing. You know he's not going to fade. We also know

:18:29.:18:34.

that James Guy is a young man who builds, he loves the confidence. He

:18:35.:18:38.

loves the showmanship. He's brilliant for the sport in terms of

:18:39.:18:41.

what he can do. That will give him a lot of confidence for the relay and

:18:42.:18:45.

whether they can defend that title later on. The men's four by 200

:18:46.:18:54.

later on. Now the women's 50m fly semifinals, featuring Sarah

:18:55.:18:56.

Sjostrom, who I'm sure, has a point to prove.

:18:57.:19:01.

We will see Sarah in the second semi-. This is the first one. Three,

:19:02.:19:14.

four and five are the fastest swimmers in the world. Osmond of

:19:15.:19:20.

Egypt, Schmidtke in Germany. The first semifinal of the women's

:19:21.:19:44.

50 fly, Worrell of the USA. Good start at the top De Ward of the

:19:45.:19:50.

Netherlands. In six is Henique of France. It will be on the touch

:19:51.:19:56.

here. Heads are down. Who is going to hit the finish well. It was in

:19:57.:20:00.

the centre, Worrell. She wound it up well. She was fourth or fifth

:20:01.:20:06.

position with about 15 metres to go. Worrell wins it. Second was Henique,

:20:07.:20:11.

third Oleksiak. It was like watching my washing in

:20:12.:20:26.

the washing machine there, all I could see was water. It was close at

:20:27.:20:29.

the end. Worrell got off the blocks well there. She got a bronze in the

:20:30.:20:35.

100 fly. Expected her to come through at the end. Beautiful stream

:20:36.:20:39.

lining under water. Look at that. You can't tell who's where and

:20:40.:20:46.

what's what. Unlucky the Henique from France. She got touched out

:20:47.:20:49.

there. You have got to get your hand into the wall. Apply a certain

:20:50.:20:52.

amount of pressure to make sure that it registers. Worrell wins the first

:20:53.:21:01.

semifinal of the women's 50 fly. Henique second, Oleksiak third.

:21:02.:21:04.

Close right down to seventh. Amazingly close.

:21:05.:21:11.

She will be spitting Sjostrom, she will be thinking how have I got half

:21:12.:21:37.

a second earlier in the week. That should have been her easiest Gold

:21:38.:21:41.

Medal. She will want to get in here and sort things out. What do you do?

:21:42.:21:46.

You just had a great opportunity to be world champion on an event you've

:21:47.:21:49.

never been world champion before. You go half a second off the time

:21:50.:21:53.

you did a couple of days ago and lose the touch. What do you do now a

:21:54.:21:58.

couple of races later? You've got to forget it ever happened. Think it

:21:59.:22:01.

was a nightmare and you're going to wake up. If she can't win this, I'll

:22:02.:22:07.

eat my shorts. She is the world record holder on a man's time of 24.

:22:08.:22:13.

4 seconds. I mean, she should be, by rights, a second ahead of anyone

:22:14.:22:16.

else in the field. I'm going to replay that in a second. Steve will

:22:17.:22:21.

eat his shorts if Sarah Sjostrom does not win this. Kromowidjojo won

:22:22.:22:35.

in London 2012. World Championship bronze medal on this the 50 fly.

:22:36.:22:40.

Ikee from Japan, the 17-year-old. Japan had an interesting meet here.

:22:41.:22:43.

Right next to her is Sarah Sjostrom. She won a gold on the 100 fly, let

:22:44.:22:48.

off in the wonderful world record 100 freestyle. I'm wondering if the

:22:49.:22:51.

sprint events are her events here. The 100 fly wasn't that great. 100

:22:52.:22:57.

free well, that wasn't that great. The 50, I wonder whether this is it.

:22:58.:23:02.

She was talking really well about that 50 freestyle. She's by far the

:23:03.:23:07.

fastest in the world on the 50 fly. The rest of the world better watch

:23:08.:23:11.

out. She will have her angry pants on now. She doesn't do silver. She

:23:12.:23:16.

could have finished this meet with four gold medals. I don't think any

:23:17.:23:19.

lady outside of America has ever done that.

:23:20.:23:26.

Second semifinal of the women's 50m butterfly. The word record holder

:23:27.:23:31.

Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden is in lane four. She swims a different stroke

:23:32.:23:38.

to the rest of the world when she's really rocking on this 50 fly.

:23:39.:23:40.

Kromowidjojo the best starter though. Three from the right there.

:23:41.:23:43.

That really was a very good start indeed. Sarah Sjostrom often takes a

:23:44.:23:49.

bit of time to get into it. Such a fast turnover though. The yellow hat

:23:50.:23:53.

of Sweden in the centre. She's so strong and powerful. Head down, not

:23:54.:23:56.

breathed yet. Still not breathed. Into the last five, no breather and

:23:57.:24:05.

she wins. Your shorts are safe, Steve. I thought I was going to have

:24:06.:24:09.

to take them off then! I was getting worried. So was I! This is so

:24:10.:24:16.

pedestrian for her though. I think probably had the stuffing knocked

:24:17.:24:20.

out of her. Kromowidjojo, what a blistering start she had. Sarah

:24:21.:24:25.

Sjostrom she really doesn't look herself there. She's had a bad day

:24:26.:24:29.

at the office this afternoon. She'll have to go home and get her head on

:24:30.:24:35.

to make sure she can secure this 50m butterfly title tomorrow night. Look

:24:36.:24:44.

at that, at the end, such power. When you have such a long reach that

:24:45.:24:49.

can help come the end of the race, especially if you're being

:24:50.:24:52.

efficient. As expected Sarah Sjostrom winning the second

:24:53.:24:57.

semifinal. She will be fastest in the final. So the qualifiers, well

:24:58.:25:04.

it was very close indeed. That's going to be a very fast

:25:05.:25:20.

final. Can you see past Sarah Sjostrom? Look at that. Barratt of

:25:21.:25:34.

Australia missing out. Sarah Sjostrom's standards are so high and

:25:35.:25:37.

her record is so impeccable, can you say that's a bad day at the office?

:25:38.:25:42.

Yeah, no, she just needs to make it through to the final. I think it's

:25:43.:25:48.

bad day at the office on the 100 free. She got things completely

:25:49.:25:52.

wrong. She dominated that and was nearly a second faster on that.

:25:53.:25:57.

Let's turn our attention to Ross Murdoch and the 200m breaststroke.

:25:58.:26:01.

How do you rate his chances coming into this. He's talked about a

:26:02.:26:04.

couple of difficult years. Is he back to his best? I think so. This

:26:05.:26:11.

meet in the semifinals is the first time he's posted 2. 07 since 2014.

:26:12.:26:15.

It has been three years, so it's good to see him down there. Ross is

:26:16.:26:19.

good of going through the heats, the yep mys and moving things on.

:26:20.:26:22.

Tonight will be about him swimming his own race, as we spoke about all

:26:23.:26:25.

week, staying relaxed and doing your own thing. If Ross does that, I

:26:26.:26:29.

think he's in a great shout for a medal. He looked relaxed, very happy

:26:30.:26:33.

after the semi last night. He did. I think the thing is it's all gone to

:26:34.:26:38.

plan for him. His stroke looks really good. He's in full control of

:26:39.:26:42.

his stroke. It's one of these things with this final, who is going to go

:26:43.:26:47.

first and show their hand. We've both said it, 200 is his event. Not

:26:48.:26:51.

the 100. Concentrate on this and it's going to be super exciting.

:26:52.:26:56.

Super excited for the boy from Stirling.

:26:57.:27:04.

What a final this is. Watanabe the world record holder is in five for

:27:05.:27:19.

Japan. There he is, Ross. The Commonwealth champion and record

:27:20.:27:23.

holder. That Commonwealth record he set when he won the Commonwealth

:27:24.:27:27.

Games in Glasgow and what a brilliant 200m breaststroke that

:27:28.:27:30.

was. It's going to be tight, though. Because this guy is fastest in

:27:31.:27:34.

history. Yeah Watanabe 20 years of age. I think he's a bit of a, well,

:27:35.:27:42.

not to put too fine of a point on it, he's a bit of a bottler. He

:27:43.:27:48.

didn't get a medal in the final. Chupkov, this guy got bronze.

:27:49.:27:54.

Balandin he bombed out yesterday and the guy who got silver last year at

:27:55.:27:57.

the Olympics didn't even make the US team. He's the only Olympic

:27:58.:28:00.

medallist in the field from last year. Arguably he will be the

:28:01.:28:05.

favourite. Out of all, that I think the answer is Murdoch's got a chance

:28:06.:28:11.

here. Certainly a chance of a medal. There's a lot of breaststroke got to

:28:12.:28:14.

be swum between now and those medals being given out. Watanabe in five

:28:15.:28:18.

has to start as the favourite. Broke the world record in January this

:28:19.:28:24.

year. Chupkov set a fast time to set a new European record in the

:28:25.:28:29.

semifinals. That's lanes five and four. Three is Murdoch. The

:28:30.:28:34.

silver-medallist from two years ago at the world championships in two,

:28:35.:28:39.

can he step up from silver to gold? I like Ross Murdoch's demeanor here.

:28:40.:28:43.

He's just being chilled, getting his kit off there. Finished listening to

:28:44.:28:47.

his music. He's not even stepping up. That will annoy the field. He

:28:48.:28:52.

did this yesterday as well. Great ambassador for Scottish swimming.

:28:53.:28:59.

Can he do it? Again, the necklace, I have to say, I question that. Shave

:29:00.:29:04.

down and then keep your necklace on, very strange.

:29:05.:29:09.

The final of the men's 200m breaststroke at the world

:29:10.:29:12.

championships. Chupkov of Russia, the fastest seed into this final.

:29:13.:29:17.

He's had a decent start. Not the greatest start for Great Britain's

:29:18.:29:22.

Ross Murdoch. There's time for him to work his way back into this. He's

:29:23.:29:30.

next to Kevin Cordes. He's just won a hatful of NCAA titles. He's a

:29:31.:29:36.

great racer. Taking the early pace on from Japan, he's third fastest in

:29:37.:29:41.

the world this year. He can handle this pace. He is taking this by the

:29:42.:29:45.

scruff of the neck. He's taking his countryman with him, next to him,

:29:46.:29:48.

the two Japanese here doing a great job down the first 75 metres. I

:29:49.:29:53.

think they may need to. Because Chupkov swam a very comfortable

:29:54.:29:56.

first 100, wound it into the third length and then really brought it

:29:57.:30:00.

home on the fourth. At the moment, the two Japanese pushing it, pushing

:30:01.:30:07.

the pace. Koseki in six. Watanabe in five. Koseki is the first to turn.

:30:08.:30:12.

He is quite a way ahead. A third of a second. Koseki first. Watanabe

:30:13.:30:18.

second. Third, well, it's pretty much of a muchness. Now Ross Murdoch

:30:19.:30:22.

has got to go. He's three from the top here. I'm liking the look of

:30:23.:30:26.

this. They're under world record pace. Will that tell later

:30:27.:30:31.

down-the-line? Will the Japanese guy be able to dole with it. We know --

:30:32.:30:36.

deal with it. We know Chupkov was the fastest last night. Murdoch is

:30:37.:30:39.

well positioned. He's stalking these top three now. Come on Ross Murdoch.

:30:40.:30:43.

You have to believe at this stage it's possible. Andy, he's worked his

:30:44.:30:47.

way in here to third medal place. Now he's got to drop the hammer.

:30:48.:30:51.

Come on, Ross. He's three from the right-hand side there. He's in a

:30:52.:30:56.

decent position. That pink leg of the suit of Chupkov, the new

:30:57.:31:00.

European record, one lane closer to us. This will be tight. Still

:31:01.:31:04.

hanging on are the two Japanese. In six and five, Koseki and Watanabe.

:31:05.:31:07.

The charge now from Chupkov in four of Russia. The charge really is

:31:08.:31:12.

going from Chupkov. In the last 25 he's really stolen it. It's gold to

:31:13.:31:21.

Russia. The silver Goce gone to Koseki. -- gone to Koseki. The

:31:22.:31:28.

bronze to Watanabe. Ross Murdoch just in fourth. Fourth, that hurts

:31:29.:31:36.

so much. Ross Murdoch just missed out there. Creeping to 2. 08

:31:37.:31:42.

territory in the final. He won't be made up with that. He went 2. 07

:31:43.:31:47.

last night. Chupkov there, unconventional swimming with his

:31:48.:31:49.

jewellery on. Maybe that FAed will take off because -- fad will take

:31:50.:31:54.

off because he was outstanding down the last length. Split 3 2 seconds
