Has he got the Finnish? I think he has! He has won the world

:00:08.:00:44.

Championship! He has certainly made us proud of

:00:45.:01:01.

this week. Can he turn this evening into a joyful one? Fingers crossed.

:01:02.:01:06.

After six days of competition in Budapest, Britain sit second on the

:01:07.:01:11.

medal table with four gold medals. There are more opportunities for

:01:12.:01:15.

Brits to get on the medal table this evening. Here's what you have to

:01:16.:01:19.

look forward to. He has already proved he is a pretty fly guy. Can

:01:20.:01:27.

Big Ben do it again? He is our guy going for gold in the 100 fly. It is

:01:28.:01:35.

James Guy. And Katie Ledecky is looking for her 14th world title.

:01:36.:01:45.

First up, it is brilliant Ben Proud, aiming to be the fastest man on the

:01:46.:01:49.

planet through water. Fingers crossed, good love. It is the men's

:01:50.:01:51.

50 metres freestyle final. The start of the final of the men's

:01:52.:02:08.

50 metres freestyle. The new sensation, Caeleb Remel Dressel in

:02:09.:02:15.

four. Ben Proud in three. Proud was the world champion in the 50 metres

:02:16.:02:20.

butterfly. Can he be the fastest human being in water? Look at his

:02:21.:02:28.

fellow. 20 years of age. He has already won so far this week. 100

:02:29.:02:34.

metres freestyle and to relays. He has a chance to win more medals

:02:35.:02:43.

tonight. That is Ben Proud. The big favourite, Dressel, in four. The

:02:44.:02:53.

final of the men's 50 metres freestyle. A very good start yet

:02:54.:02:59.

again for Dressler of the US A. -- Dressel of the USA. He is not having

:03:00.:03:08.

it all his own way. Frater Zin in six is going very well. It looks

:03:09.:03:14.

like it may be Dressel. It is gold to the USA. Silver to the Brazilian

:03:15.:03:17.

and I can tell you the wonderful news is that Ben Proud of Great

:03:18.:03:21.

Britain has got a bronze medal. Wonderful news! 21.4 three. Just

:03:22.:03:29.

outside of his lifetime best. He has added bronze on this 50 metres

:03:30.:03:34.

freestyle to the gold he won in the 50 metres fly. Well done, Ben Proud.

:03:35.:03:42.

That is a great swim. It is his finish which got the medal. Well

:03:43.:03:49.

done Ben Proud. But Dressel starts so well. When he is in the water, he

:03:50.:03:55.

never relinquishes the advantage. It is absolutely brilliant to see.

:03:56.:04:07.

These starts are superb. Look at this. Brilliant underwater. It is

:04:08.:04:12.

the momentum he gets off the start. He bursts forward. Amazing. Yeah.

:04:13.:04:21.

His swimming doesn't let him down either! Unconventional stroke. Look

:04:22.:04:28.

at the advantage. The Brazilian in six did challenge. He was actually

:04:29.:04:33.

swimming faster than Dressel. Look what it means to him. He has got his

:04:34.:04:39.

hands full. He has to return in 30 minutes to do the 100 fly. He's

:04:40.:04:45.

going to this -- straight down to swim down. Dressel wins gold. A

:04:46.:04:52.

brilliant swim. A new American win. Ben Proud gets the bronze for Great

:04:53.:04:57.

Britain. He is now talking to Sharon. Many

:04:58.:05:02.

congratulations. The second medal of the week. It has been your week,

:05:03.:05:09.

hasn't it? Yeah. The 50 freestyle is the event to be battling in. I

:05:10.:05:20.

thought that was a fast race. Between me and fifth there was

:05:21.:05:27.

almost nothing. I was nice and calm going into the race. 21.1, that is

:05:28.:05:34.

most unbeatable. That is what I am looking to try and do. He is a

:05:35.:05:40.

special swimmer, Caleb. It was great. The only thing that needs a

:05:41.:05:49.

bit of work is the dive. You can pinpoint that and not give so much

:05:50.:05:54.

away at the start, maybe? Yes. I used to pride myself on my first 50

:05:55.:06:00.

metres. It is a confidence booster. I know I can push myself to go as

:06:01.:06:04.

fast as him. That will be something I go back to next year. I knew he

:06:05.:06:10.

was going to be away at the start. That is why I didn't let it upset

:06:11.:06:14.

me. I felt it was a bloody good race. It is the second fastest I

:06:15.:06:19.

have ever been. To do it in the final, and happy. We are as well.

:06:20.:06:25.

Many congratulations. Congratulations from us as well.

:06:26.:06:28.

Bronze medal in the 50 metres freestyle. I don't want to sound

:06:29.:06:34.

like a broken record, but what would you say if he was here? First of

:06:35.:06:39.

all, congratulations. It was fantastic. Start believing a little

:06:40.:06:43.

bit more. There has been a huge shift, winning the 50 metres fly and

:06:44.:06:49.

backing it up there. Dressel is in a league of his own. It is not too

:06:50.:06:54.

easy to work on you start but he has still got some things to work on. He

:06:55.:06:56.

has had a fantastic week. You Not good. Two weeks -- years ago the

:06:57.:07:04.

British boys pinched the 4x200 metres relay from the Americans.

:07:05.:07:08.

Last year at the Olympics the Americans took the top spot back.

:07:09.:07:12.

Last night in Budapest, the stage was set for an epic battle with the

:07:13.:07:17.

Russians going in fastest on paper. We join the race with the British

:07:18.:07:25.

boys in lane five. Team USA coming into this halfway

:07:26.:07:30.

mark of this freestyle relay and they have got a decent lead. USA in

:07:31.:07:36.

one, Russia two. A typed takeover from Great Britain. We came in

:07:37.:07:42.

fourth position. Getting closer to the Aussies in third. Great split by

:07:43.:07:46.

Nick Grainger. Duncan Scott wasn't messing around. He has only given at

:07:47.:07:52.

nine 100th of a second on the takeover. If you are going to give

:07:53.:07:57.

yourself a chance of defending the world title, you have to go for that

:07:58.:08:02.

takeover. It is a skill the Americans have always been good at.

:08:03.:08:07.

The Russians are really doing well. They are doing well. If we are going

:08:08.:08:11.

to get the gold medal, we have to go in pretty even with Russia. Russia

:08:12.:08:17.

in second in lane three. Way out in front at the moment is USA. USA

:08:18.:08:25.

first, second is Russia. Third is Great Britain. That is James Guy. He

:08:26.:08:33.

is looking good. Excuse me, it is not James Guy. It is Duncan Scott.

:08:34.:08:40.

He has got some work to do. We need him to be about it coming into the

:08:41.:08:44.

final leg. The USA at the top going very well. Russia second. Duncan

:08:45.:08:51.

Scott in third position. Come on, Duncan. Let's make sure James Guy is

:08:52.:08:57.

within a second. He is doing a fantastic job. Just look how he's

:08:58.:09:06.

coming back. I fancy James Guy to do the job if he can go in within one

:09:07.:09:10.

second of the Russians. This would be a fantastic battle. The final

:09:11.:09:17.

guide for Russia got the bronze. James Guy was fifth. This is very

:09:18.:09:24.

tight. The final leg of the relay. The USA go in first. Very tight

:09:25.:09:30.

indeed for Russia and Great Britain. The bronze medallist Russia and

:09:31.:09:35.

James Guy for Britain. That head-to-head will be fascinating.

:09:36.:09:37.

They are starting to catch the American already. I have had to

:09:38.:09:45.

check my computer. Duncan Scott went really fast. One of the best in the

:09:46.:09:51.

world. Look at the job James Guy is doing on the American. He has given

:09:52.:09:55.

us the lead. Surely the race can't be over already. James Guy looking

:09:56.:10:01.

good. He has gone out very fast. Has he gone too fast? He has taken about

:10:02.:10:07.

a metre and a half off the Russian. Great Britain are the world

:10:08.:10:11.

champions in this relay. This is very, very exciting. Has James Guy

:10:12.:10:18.

gone off too quick? The Russian will come back at him. James Guy looking

:10:19.:10:23.

good. He is not going to give this up, Shirley? This is where he needs

:10:24.:10:30.

to dig deep. This is where it starts to hurt. It is not about the

:10:31.:10:33.

physical ability at this point, it is about his heart. He has a big

:10:34.:10:39.

one. He can bring this home for Britain. But the Russians are going

:10:40.:10:47.

to be bearing down on him. James Guy is a 200 specialist. He was the

:10:48.:10:51.

world champion in the 200. He is a 400 specialist. He is going

:10:52.:10:54.

fantastically well. Great Britain looked like they may defend this

:10:55.:11:00.

title. It is a world title, Great Britain won it in Russia two years

:11:01.:11:06.

ago. They are the world champions again. What a brilliant swim.

:11:07.:11:11.

Stephen Milne lead them off. Nick Grainger was second, Duncan Scott

:11:12.:11:16.

was third and James Guy brought them home. World champions. Absolutely

:11:17.:11:22.

outstanding. That kid has just gone one minute and 43 seconds. It is

:11:23.:11:31.

faster than the individual. Jimmy guy doesn't lose when he is

:11:32.:11:34.

confident. Look what it means to him. Well done, Great Britain.

:11:35.:11:38.

Champions of the word for the second time in a row.

:11:39.:11:44.

Congratulations. What an absolutely fantastic swim. You defended that

:11:45.:11:49.

title. What a great swim by all of us. I... Tonight was just about

:11:50.:11:56.

getting back, having a good time with the boys. We are world

:11:57.:11:59.

champions. We have got the title back. You entered in 49.8 in the

:12:00.:12:09.

first 100. No Howay! That is all right, isn't it? I was shifting. I

:12:10.:12:17.

was telling towards the back and a little bit. I kept saying, hold the

:12:18.:12:24.

gap. We won. Amazing. Duncan, a 44 split for you. You have had a busy

:12:25.:12:30.

week. Definitely. Things have kept going. It is a new day with the four

:12:31.:12:36.

by two guys. It was fun because of the energy they bring to it. You

:12:37.:12:42.

didn't have to automatically go out fast. You had to bring it back to

:12:43.:12:46.

help us in the race and try not to let the adrenaline get the better of

:12:47.:12:51.

you. Everybody did their best. Everybody did well. That is why we

:12:52.:12:56.

are on top of the podium. There they are, taking the top spot.

:12:57.:13:04.

World champions. Stephen Milne, lit Nick Grainger, Duncan Scott and

:13:05.:13:09.

James Guy. A mention for: Jarvis, who swam in the heats to get the

:13:10.:13:13.

boys into the final. What a night. We were here, but watching that

:13:14.:13:18.

back, even I was getting nervous. I was thinking, James, what have you

:13:19.:13:23.

done? The first two legs we were coming from behind. We were getting

:13:24.:13:27.

very nervous. We were like, have they made the right decision? Credit

:13:28.:13:34.

to Duncan Scott. I know James Guy's split was seriously impressive but

:13:35.:13:38.

Duncan Scott's split was equally impressive. He has had such a busy

:13:39.:13:44.

week. Credit to the guys. They found their own race, tactically they swim

:13:45.:13:48.

it perfectly. Great night for Nick Grainger. He swam in the morning. He

:13:49.:13:54.

has told quite a lot about how it has been a motivation to get him on

:13:55.:13:58.

the podium? It is so important that we have a team of guys we can rest.

:13:59.:14:04.

James, he had a heat in the morning in the fly... He is resting for the

:14:05.:14:16.

evening. -- he needed resting. James Guy had fun in the pool last night.

:14:17.:14:20.

Let's hope he will be doing that wobbly walk again this evening. I

:14:21.:14:24.

will hand you over to the commentators, Andy, speed -- Steve

:14:25.:14:26.

and a very special guest. Dressel goes in lane four. What a

:14:27.:14:45.

final this is. Being introduced to the crowd is the second and the

:14:46.:14:55.

fastest Hungarian. Hungary in three. It comes James Guy. Lane five. A new

:14:56.:15:02.

British record. He is -- he set to qualify for this final.

:15:03.:15:08.

Outside of him is Joseph Schooling. The fastest swim in the world, they

:15:09.:15:20.

banned the rubber suits, so those times don't really count any more.

:15:21.:15:27.

Chad le Clos is sitting between me and Stephen Perry. He is the world

:15:28.:15:30.

record holder. Big honour to be here. I think it is going to be

:15:31.:15:34.

tight. I think he will go 49, for sure. I think it is going to be

:15:35.:15:47.

close. Not a lot between 49.22 and 50. What are you thinking? I am

:15:48.:15:52.

thinking that Chad le Clos should not be sitting next to me, he should

:15:53.:15:55.

be in the water, going for the medal. But I won't make you cry.

:15:56.:16:02.

That's my dad's job! The context, we thought Michael Phelps's world

:16:03.:16:06.

record was unbreakable at 49.8. It was a big surprise that Caeleb

:16:07.:16:15.

Dressel when so close in the heats. It could potentially work against

:16:16.:16:18.

him here. One thing is for sure, with James Guy and Schooling next to

:16:19.:16:25.

him, it will be one heck of a race. I'm very excited, I think it will be

:16:26.:16:30.

close. Schooling has been talking about breaking the world record. He

:16:31.:16:35.

is the world champion. James Guy is in lane five. Dressel must start as

:16:36.:16:44.

the favourite in lane four. The starts of Caeleb Dressel have been

:16:45.:16:47.

absolutely extraordinary. Let's watch this one in four. He needs a

:16:48.:16:54.

good start if he is going to break the world record. James Guy in five.

:16:55.:17:04.

Going to be a tight race. Caeleb is favourite. But James Guy, and Laszlo

:17:05.:17:18.

as well. 23.3, just outside that. Still underneath Michael Phelps's

:17:19.:17:21.

world record splits. What does he have to do down the second 50? Looks

:17:22.:17:27.

like he is right on pace. Jimmy guy in a good position. James Guy is

:17:28.:17:33.

actually challenging Dressel. In the blackout, closer to us. -- the Black

:17:34.:17:41.

hat. Dressel at the 100 metres butterfly. 49.80 six. Just outside

:17:42.:17:49.

the world record. The world record of Michael Phelps, 49.80 two. The

:17:50.:17:59.

silver has gone to Milak of Hungary. James Guy has got a bronze! He is

:18:00.:18:03.

tied with Joseph Schooling. Goodness me, hate -- a tie for bronze. Caeleb

:18:04.:18:18.

Dressel, what a fantastic swim. He was a fingernail away from breaking

:18:19.:18:22.

Michael Phelps's world record. He has done that only 30 minutes after

:18:23.:18:28.

winning the 50 metres freestyle. Caeleb Dressel, what a superstar

:18:29.:18:33.

this kid is, at 20. The bad news is, if you had done the time that you

:18:34.:18:36.

had done last year at the Olympics, you would be up there. But you have

:18:37.:18:40.

to be happy for James Guy. The first guy to win a medal at the worlds

:18:41.:18:45.

since this fellow, Andrew Jamieson. I'm very happy for him. I would have

:18:46.:18:53.

loved to have been in the final challenging. 49.8 is exceptional.

:18:54.:19:02.

What does he do? He's got a great technique. The start is

:19:03.:19:06.

unbelievable. His final ten metres is really phenomenal. When everybody

:19:07.:19:11.

seems to be catching him come he pulls away. It doesn't look like he

:19:12.:19:17.

is pulling away, but he does. Look at his finish, look at him colliding

:19:18.:19:21.

in. That would have been the world record, if he had finished on a full

:19:22.:19:28.

stroke? Yes, and James Guy getting the bronze with Joseph Schooling. A

:19:29.:19:35.

17-year-old getting 50.6, that is a standing ovation, unbelievable.

:19:36.:19:40.

There are the US coaches, looking at the world record. I can't believe

:19:41.:19:45.

I've just seen 49.86, the second fastest time in history. Caeleb

:19:46.:19:50.

Dressel wins gold in the 100 metres butterfly, to add to the gold he won

:19:51.:19:58.

at the freestyle. A silver to Milak of Hungary. James Guy get a

:19:59.:20:01.

wonderful bronze, tied with Joseph Schooling of Singapore.

:20:02.:20:08.

Two medals for Jimmy Guy in two days, adding to the gold in the

:20:09.:20:15.

relay. Jimmy Guy has a bronze medal from the championships in his

:20:16.:20:20.

cabinet. What a race? James is talking to Sharon now.

:20:21.:20:28.

James, congratulations. A fantastic swim. What were you thinking at the

:20:29.:20:34.

end of the race? You were almost talking to yourself. Was it to do

:20:35.:20:38.

with the finish? I was worried about your finish. I didn't get it quite

:20:39.:20:44.

right, the finish. Caeleb got really fast, I try to go with him. But my

:20:45.:20:48.

finish was terrible. That is something to work on. Feared in the

:20:49.:20:54.

100 fly, I said after the freestyle, third is great to finish on. What do

:20:55.:20:58.

you do when you go home from this meet, do you think you are going to

:20:59.:21:06.

mess about with the 200 butterfly? Long-term, I'm thinking more fly, it

:21:07.:21:09.

is their, the strength is there. I've got speed and that.

:21:10.:21:14.

Commonwealth Games, next year. And we have the medley relay coming up,

:21:15.:21:19.

we will see you again back in the water. Excited about that? Of

:21:20.:21:22.

course, it will be great between us, the Americans and Chinese. Well

:21:23.:21:25.

done. That was quite extraordinary. I'm

:21:26.:21:38.

sitting next to Chad le Clos. We have just seen the gold medal go to

:21:39.:21:42.

Caeleb Dressel of the USA. The style he did it in, from the start, he

:21:43.:21:49.

took off? I never thought it would come so quickly. Only a couple of

:21:50.:21:52.

years since breaking that. I would have loved to have been in the

:21:53.:21:56.

final. My own mistakes were there in the semifinals. That was

:21:57.:22:03.

exceptionally fast. 50 points, down to seventh place. I was eighth in

:22:04.:22:11.

the final this year. I'm excited now about James Guy against you. I think

:22:12.:22:16.

he has just gone right down to your PDA. Commonwealth Games next year, a

:22:17.:22:17.

big head to head? Jimbo is my mate. I said, just go

:22:18.:22:30.

for it. He has been telling me for about seven months, I am confident

:22:31.:22:38.

in the 200 fly. I said, stick to the 400. We have some history as well.

:22:39.:22:44.

This old goat was the last guy for Great Britain to get a medal at the

:22:45.:22:48.

World Championships. He's done a good job. He's not done too bad.

:22:49.:22:54.

Let's talk a second about Caeleb Dressel. No human being has ever

:22:55.:22:58.

come to a World Championships or Olympic Games and won three gold

:22:59.:23:05.

medals in one session. He just won the 50 three, can he do the fly? The

:23:06.:23:15.

mistake he made was the 50 fly. He has had an amazing week in the meet.

:23:16.:23:24.

I can't wait to meeting in 2020, alongside James. We are looking

:23:25.:23:31.

forward to Dressel against Chad le Clos in the 100, and certainly

:23:32.:23:33.

against James in the 100. We have talked a lot about James

:23:34.:23:43.

Guy's character, about how he loves racing. I think he's looked around

:23:44.:23:46.

and looked at who are the best characters, I want to get in their

:23:47.:23:48.

race. Why not? He can compete with them. I was

:23:49.:23:58.

surprised when he said he was going to drop the free. It was an

:23:59.:24:11.

incredible race, I'm glad he got onto the podium. Right idea, to drop

:24:12.:24:18.

the 400 free and concentrate on fly? He's got a lot of events, the world

:24:19.:24:24.

in the butterfly, and he has gone to the 200 fly, and he has three solid

:24:25.:24:31.

events. A medal for James Guy. But we already had one in the pool

:24:32.:24:37.

courtesy of Ben Proud. How proud are you? Immensely proud. The

:24:38.:24:40.

presentation taking place. He did an amazing job. 21.3 earlier in the

:24:41.:24:48.

year, he would not have got a silver or gold medal, it wouldn't have

:24:49.:24:53.

taken further. I know people say he has given away too much on the

:24:54.:24:57.

start, the rest of the world are behind Caeleb Dressel on the start.

:24:58.:25:02.

He is phenomenal. He is the new face of world swimming. Getting that

:25:03.:25:05.

close and getting so much more consistent is brilliant. You are

:25:06.:25:09.

telling Ben to believe, I'm going to tell you to believe, he can catch

:25:10.:25:15.

him? I'm not saying he can't, but it is the first time he's been on a

:25:16.:25:20.

podium at a World Championship, he won one and came third in one, great

:25:21.:25:25.

steps from where he was. I think he has started to believe in himself,

:25:26.:25:29.

he needs to stop thinking about these Godlike characters. He said to

:25:30.:25:34.

Sharon that 21.1 was almost unbeatable. He should not see it

:25:35.:25:37.

like that. Every single person in that pool is beatable, because he

:25:38.:25:41.

did it in the 50 metres butterfly. I think he does believe in himself,

:25:42.:25:44.

but he needs to forget about everybody else and say, you know

:25:45.:25:49.

what? I can do that! Certainly been a good week for Ben Proud at the

:25:50.:25:52.

office. One world title and a bronze medal. He will go and enjoy himself.

:25:53.:25:58.

I won't say go to the Budapest Ba'athists, he probably wants to be

:25:59.:26:00.

nowhere near a swimming pool. Somebody else chasing medals is

:26:01.:26:06.

Sarah Sjostrom. This happened earlier.

:26:07.:26:18.

Sarah Sjostrom is the massive favourite. But which one will turn

:26:19.:26:24.

up? The world record holder or the silver medallist?

:26:25.:26:33.

50 metres butterfly final. Sjostrom in fourth. So, the final of the 50

:26:34.:26:44.

metres butterfly. Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden in four. Also Kelsey of the

:26:45.:26:57.

USA. The Olympic champion from London. This is very good. The world

:26:58.:27:08.

record, 24.40 three. A little bit outside of that. Maybe a little bit

:27:09.:27:14.

choppy into the last 15 metres. Goodness me, she has avenge those

:27:15.:27:18.

demons that came in last night on a 100 metres freestyle, when she

:27:19.:27:21.

should have won the gold. Now it is gold on the 50 metres butterfly. A

:27:22.:27:30.

new Championship record for Sarah Sjostrom. The second fastest time in

:27:31.:27:31.

history. So, Egypt on the podium for the

:27:32.:27:42.

first time ever. Sarah Sjostrom took the world title

:27:43.:27:53.

and it was never in doubt. She won by almost a second. That is her

:27:54.:27:58.

third medal of the week. Any lingering doubts from last night

:27:59.:28:05.

certainly put to bed. Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands took silver.

:28:06.:28:11.

We're going to see Sjostrom again in a minute. That was last night, she

:28:12.:28:15.

has not turned around and gone back in. That was earlier! She is next in

:28:16.:28:29.

the 50 free semifinals. A lot of retirements, Fran decided not to do

:28:30.:28:32.

this, he'll have we got coming through? Most notably Freya? Yes,

:28:33.:28:40.

she is only young, she has World Championships coming up. She is a

:28:41.:28:45.

great prospect for the future. Fran leaves a real legacy. But we haven't

:28:46.:28:51.

really got a sprint programme in the UK, which we really need to develop.

:28:52.:28:55.

We have always had a good history with Mark, Fran, other people. Shame

:28:56.:29:01.

we haven't got a sprint face. That was your event, we saw Ben getting

:29:02.:29:05.

the medal. The last time we had a man on the podium for a sprint event

:29:06.:29:11.

was you, ten years ago. 14 years ago. Can't believe I just admitted

:29:12.:29:16.

that! The thing is, it is one of these situations whereby role models

:29:17.:29:20.

in your country, people you look up to and people that you chase,

:29:21.:29:25.

programmes, predominantly in the UK, historically, more middle-distance

:29:26.:29:31.

programmes. We haven't really got sprint programmes. A lot of the

:29:32.:29:33.

sprinters come out of America. When you look at American swimming, and

:29:34.:29:40.

Bill Furness mentioned it on the first night, if you look at how many

:29:41.:29:43.

people are swimming compared to the UK, we can't cover every event. I

:29:44.:29:46.

would like to see a sprint programme with somebody like James Gibson, we

:29:47.:29:51.

had him before, but where we send some sprinters. OK, you might not be

:29:52.:29:57.

the greatest middle-distance swimmer, but you could be a good

:29:58.:30:02.

sprinter. We talk about the legacy we have with breaststroke, could Ben

:30:03.:30:07.

Proud start a legacy in spreading? Yes, but he trains in Turkey! So

:30:08.:30:13.

yes, but... Because there isn't a programme in the UK. But we are not

:30:14.:30:18.

going to see him, we are still going to see him on television, kid

:30:19.:30:22.

saying, I want to be like Ben Proud? 100%. But there is a view gaps,

:30:23.:30:28.

there are events that have so much depth, people at home are thinking I

:30:29.:30:32.

could have been in that final, there are too many people. We are missing

:30:33.:30:37.

events, women's distance doesn't have many people, sprinted,

:30:38.:30:39.

traditionally we have had good people. Hopefully the gaps, over the

:30:40.:30:43.

next three years, coaches are looking at and pinpointing their

:30:44.:30:44.

athletes on the road to Tokyo. Could Fran Halsall big --, cry the

:30:45.:30:59.

retirement? Yes. Well, she has just gotten engaged. Think truthfully she

:31:00.:31:05.

should. Enjoy your year out. It is down to her. As she had enough?

:31:06.:31:12.

Possibly. While Fran Halsall tells us to shut up, here is another

:31:13.:31:21.

semifinal. The first of the semifinals of the

:31:22.:31:27.

women's 50 metres freestyle says Pernille Blume, the Olympic

:31:28.:31:28.

champion. Santa Manse of France goes in six.

:31:29.:31:45.

We haven't seen too many French swimmers yet at this world

:31:46.:31:47.

championship. They have had an absolutely shocking time. They need

:31:48.:31:55.

to turn it around. They honouring -- they have only got a day and a half

:31:56.:32:00.

left. Michelle Toro from Canada. Look at this lady. Simone manual.

:32:01.:32:06.

She never looks happy. She didn't even look happy when she won the 100

:32:07.:32:11.

metres freestyle yesterday. She has every reason to smile. And finally,

:32:12.:32:17.

Pernell Bloom, the Dane, the Olympic champion. -- Pernille Blume.

:32:18.:32:33.

She has won the Olympic title. She is in four. She swim very well in

:32:34.:32:41.

the 100. She got a bronze. That was a big surprise. That was the

:32:42.:32:47.

greatest assembled set of women in the 100 metres freestyle I have ever

:32:48.:32:53.

seen. Simone Manuel made history in Rio. She tied for a gold with the

:32:54.:33:07.

Canadian. She backed it up this year with world championship title at 100

:33:08.:33:09.

free. The first semifinal of the women's

:33:10.:33:21.

50 metres freestyle. A very good start for Simone Manuel of the USA.

:33:22.:33:27.

She swims at Stanford University. One of the team-mate of Katie

:33:28.:33:33.

Ledecky. What a team they have got. It is a semifinal. They just have to

:33:34.:33:37.

make sure they get a decent, solid swim. It is close. 71 hundredths

:33:38.:33:48.

split them. Pernille Blume wins it. We may enter up getting a French

:33:49.:33:54.

finalist. Don't sound so surprised! They are capable. You are just

:33:55.:34:01.

winding up our colleagues next door. I love it. Two world-class times.

:34:02.:34:11.

They really are fast women. They are around the Olympic winning mark from

:34:12.:34:16.

last year. Pernille Blume didn't have a good start. She was playing

:34:17.:34:21.

catch up all the way through. She was only winning over the last

:34:22.:34:28.

metre. Sarah Sjostrom has been the standout performer. Pernille Blume

:34:29.:34:35.

winning the first semifinal it -- at the time faster than she won the

:34:36.:34:44.

Olympic gold last year. There are the second semifinalists

:34:45.:34:50.

waiting. Sarah Sjostrom in four. Could you break the world record?

:34:51.:34:55.

Bronte Campbell is it that -- the defending champion. What a semifinal

:34:56.:35:06.

that is. Main Phil goes in eight per Canada. -- never short of

:35:07.:35:16.

confidence. Always a little bit worried town America -- American on

:35:17.:35:18.

the outside. Aliaksandra Herasimenia. She was

:35:19.:35:37.

making me cry Leicester at the Olympic games. She tapped out Fran

:35:38.:35:40.

Halsall by 21 hundredths of a second to beat her in Rio. This young lady,

:35:41.:35:48.

Osman of Egypt, got Egypt's first ever medal when she got a bronze in

:35:49.:35:54.

the 50 metres fly this evening. Amazing. Bronte Campbell, defending

:35:55.:36:01.

champion. Her sister is faster. Her sister is not here. I think she has

:36:02.:36:06.

picked the wrong Championships. She has had her world record taken from

:36:07.:36:12.

just missing out. Kromowidjojo did the double in 2012. She has been

:36:13.:36:16.

working away back since. She is speedy. The fourth fastest time in

:36:17.:36:20.

the world. Is this where it is at? Sarah Sjostrom. Six times on the 24

:36:21.:36:27.

seconds this year. Knocking on the door of the world record. Based on

:36:28.:36:31.

wobbly saw earlier this week, she could be under threat. -- on what we

:36:32.:36:38.

saw. Our fastest this year is 28.8 three. -- her fastest. This is the

:36:39.:36:46.

time they often do it in the semi. It is not the final. The world

:36:47.:36:57.

record held by a German. They have not been at the races in these

:36:58.:37:02.

championships, Germany. Sarah Sjostrom looks ready to me. I could

:37:03.:37:09.

-- I think we could see some fireworks. Second semifinal of the

:37:10.:37:19.

women's 53. Sarah Sjostrom has already won the 50 metres butterfly.

:37:20.:37:25.

She is going well. The world record is 20 sat -- 20 3.7 three. Older

:37:26.:37:31.

going well with her is Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands. 23.67! It is a

:37:32.:37:43.

new world record. A fantastic swim. She broke the world record in the

:37:44.:37:47.

100 metres freestyle earlier in this championship. Now she has taken the

:37:48.:37:52.

50. That is fantastic. 61 hundredths of a second. She has destroyed the

:37:53.:37:57.

world record. -- six one hundredths of a second. That is one of the

:37:58.:38:05.

long-standing assisted sued records from 2009. That is absolutely

:38:06.:38:10.

world-class. She was under way well off the blocks. She has more to

:38:11.:38:15.

drop. If she puts the race together tomorrow night, she will break it

:38:16.:38:22.

again. Look what it means. She has come back tonight and performed like

:38:23.:38:27.

an absolute trooper. Great streamlining underwater. Popped

:38:28.:38:32.

right up. It was that speed from 20 through to 40 metres that got her

:38:33.:38:36.

that world record. She is behind at this stage. The Dutch girl next to.

:38:37.:38:44.

With 15 to go, she keeps sparring. She was on the world record line.

:38:45.:38:50.

Great finish. She leaned into it as well. What a fantastic swim that was

:38:51.:38:56.

from Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden. She broke the world record earlier this

:38:57.:39:03.

evening. No, she didn't. She was 17 one hundredths ad sided. -- outside

:39:04.:39:12.

it. Brilliant stuff. Can you believe the time low? Well Mac! A new world

:39:13.:39:20.

record. Sarah Sjostrom wins the second semifinal of the women's 50

:39:21.:39:23.

metres freestyle. A new world record.

:39:24.:39:34.

The defending champion third. How many times this week am I going to

:39:35.:39:40.

say the swimming superstar from Sweden, Sarah Sjostrom?! She has

:39:41.:39:44.

done it again. She has just won the 50 fly and now she has done that.

:39:45.:39:51.

How impressed are you? Immensely. She rules the roost in butterfly.

:39:52.:39:58.

Leaps and bounds ahead of the world. She's moving butterfly forward.

:39:59.:40:02.

Freestyle has been tighter. Breaking the 100 freestyle record, winning

:40:03.:40:09.

that. She hasn't got the best start in the world. She swims away from

:40:10.:40:12.

people. She must be holding someone's water. She has something

:40:13.:40:17.

to prove as well. She wanted to reclaim her title. Let's have a look

:40:18.:40:23.

at that raise again. Sarah Sjostrom has just broken the world record.

:40:24.:40:27.

You said she must be holding water. She could go faster? Ultimately what

:40:28.:40:33.

you're tried to do in the pool is... She is behind, JoJo. --

:40:34.:40:41.

Kromowidjojo. She doesn't breathe. She keeps her head down. You can see

:40:42.:40:51.

the world record line. On 50 freestyle, it is the person that

:40:52.:40:55.

slows down the least that wins. One of the things I notice about her is

:40:56.:41:01.

when she does the walk-out, the camera is right in her face but she

:41:02.:41:04.

doesn't acknowledge it. What is going through her head at that

:41:05.:41:12.

point? It depends on the athlete. She wants to stay in her zone. Some

:41:13.:41:16.

people like listening to music, some people don't. It is up to you. Sarah

:41:17.:41:22.

is trying to refocus. Trying to put the gold medal behind her and get in

:41:23.:41:28.

the zone and focus for this event. Some people, and I think she is

:41:29.:41:33.

probably one of them, having won the event beforehand, it distracts from

:41:34.:41:36.

what is coming next. She doesn't have time to think about it. The 100

:41:37.:41:42.

freestyle the other night, if it was straight up, she was probably

:41:43.:41:45.

winding ourselves up for half an hour before and she just blew up.

:41:46.:41:50.

She does what he needs to do and what she does is pretty darn

:41:51.:41:54.

impressive. Next it is the breaststroke. Semifinal.

:41:55.:42:10.

A big semifinal, this. Efimova offer Russia. -- for Russia. The first

:42:11.:42:26.

semifinal. Yuliya Efimova in four. Sarah Vasey and six.

:42:27.:42:41.

She is going well. She is about in line with Ruta Meilutyte entry.

:42:42.:42:51.

Second was Katie Meili. Third, rue temerity to. A good swim by Sarah

:42:52.:43:03.

Vasey. It is squeaky bum time. The second semifinal is coming and they

:43:04.:43:11.

are not slow at all. Yuliya Efimova winning the first

:43:12.:43:18.

semifinal. 29.7 three. Sarah Vasey has done well in fourth.

:43:19.:43:27.

A good swim. We have to keep our fingers crossed. I'm happy with

:43:28.:43:31.

that. It is a touch of my best, which is frustrating. Hopefully it's

:43:32.:43:36.

fast enough to make the final. You are enjoying this experience. So

:43:37.:43:39.

fast every time you get in the water? Yeah, I love it here. The

:43:40.:43:46.

atmosphere is amazing. It is like nothing I've experienced before. I

:43:47.:43:51.

was itching to get back in. We will keep our fingers crossed and maybe

:43:52.:43:53.

we will see you tomorrow. Thank you.

:43:54.:44:00.

Lily King, the champion in the 100, goes in lane four. Jennie Johansson,

:44:01.:44:11.

the defending champion, in three. King in four. There she is for the

:44:12.:44:15.

USA. The defending champion in three. The second semifinal. The

:44:16.:44:25.

time that Sarah Vasey did in the previous semi was 30.4 six. It is OK

:44:26.:44:31.

to have four faster than that in this semi but please not five. King

:44:32.:44:36.

is looking very good. She really does attack it very strongly indeed.

:44:37.:44:42.

Coming back is Jennie Johansson some of the European champion, defending

:44:43.:44:46.

world champion. King, my goodness, street ahead.

:44:47.:45:02.

What a final it is going to be. Lilly King is going to go in

:45:03.:45:15.

fastest, Efimova second. Very quick indeed from Lilly King, fastest in

:45:16.:45:18.

the world this year. The defending world champion is second. Look at

:45:19.:45:25.

that, goodness me. Surely, the good news now is that Sarah Vaizey will

:45:26.:45:27.

go into that final sixth fastest. How happy will she be to get into

:45:28.:45:53.

the final? Massively. I don't fit we have had a GB girl there since 2007.

:45:54.:45:58.

Massive step in the right direction. She trains with Adam Peaty, she will

:45:59.:46:03.

be buzzing, hoping to just get the lane, get the experience and say

:46:04.:46:06.

what she can do tomorrow night. The more she gets in there, the more

:46:07.:46:10.

opportunity she gets, the more will come. I saw her in the warm up and

:46:11.:46:15.

she looked really good. She's quite a tall girl, nice, long stroke. If

:46:16.:46:21.

she can up the tempo, like Adam... It's really loud, by the way! His

:46:22.:46:25.

tempo is really fast I think that will come. The more she trains, the

:46:26.:46:30.

more she will deal with it. She's got a lot more to come. We have

:46:31.:46:35.

talked a lot about the boys feeding of the atmosphere. From the way

:46:36.:46:41.

Sarah was talking, it sounds like she feeds offered? The crowd have

:46:42.:46:49.

been amazing. They are all milking it, doing the whole thing, rightly

:46:50.:46:56.

so. For some, it can be intimidating. Maybe being around

:46:57.:47:00.

Adam, there is no time for nerves? Now we are going to talk about the

:47:01.:47:05.

men's 50 back semis. Another word on that final, we are going to show

:47:06.:47:08.

that tomorrow night, featuring Sarah Vasey. Efimova won the breaststroke

:47:09.:47:17.

title. Lilly King won the 100 breaststroke title. Who will take at

:47:18.:47:21.

this time? My money is on Lily. I'm going to go with Lily as well. It's

:47:22.:47:26.

quite interesting, Efimova swims that 50 like she's got speed, and

:47:27.:47:30.

when she swims the 100 it is like she hasn't got any speed. I don't

:47:31.:47:35.

know why she doesn't just go for it. If I was head Coach, I'd say, right,

:47:36.:47:43.

just go for it. Don't limp out. The men's 50-metre backstroke semifinals

:47:44.:47:45.

now. In lane four, Camille Lacourt. He

:47:46.:48:09.

won in 13 and 15. 11 was Liam Tancock Britain.

:48:10.:48:12.

Lacourt, won it in Kazan. Neither could get near Liam Tancock's world

:48:13.:48:26.

record. I remember him doing it in Rome, you

:48:27.:48:35.

couldn't even see him, his arms went run so fast. 24.0 is otherworldly.

:48:36.:48:42.

He is here doing a bit. I thought he was doing a bit for British

:48:43.:48:45.

swimming, part of the athletes commission. Great to see him down

:48:46.:48:49.

there. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Matt grievous. What a

:48:50.:49:01.

monster he is. 6-foot seven. -- Matt Grevers. I can see why Helen Skelton

:49:02.:49:07.

and her friends like this fellow, full-time model, part-time swimmer,

:49:08.:49:12.

Camille Lacourt. What a lovely way to go out at his final meet, to win

:49:13.:49:15.

the championships in 2017. He needs to do something 14 France.

:49:16.:49:25.

There is Grevers. He is absolutely enormous. Some of them are wearing

:49:26.:49:42.

nose clips. It's quite hard, when you are underwater, to stop the

:49:43.:49:43.

water going up your nose. You need to get your lips up to your

:49:44.:49:54.

nostrils, like you are sneezing, that stops it. If you can't do that

:49:55.:49:58.

and you are lazy, you can have the nose clip. The officials have to be

:49:59.:50:08.

on it making sure nobody breaches the 50-metre underwater marker. We

:50:09.:50:12.

saw the Australian do it, but they didn't go.

:50:13.:50:20.

Camille Lacourt, in the centre. He is allowed 50. He has used every

:50:21.:50:29.

centimetre of that 15. That was incredible. The white hat, in the

:50:30.:50:35.

centre, also going with him, Matt Grevers. It looks like it's going to

:50:36.:50:41.

be Lacourt. Let's look at the world record of Liam Tancock. It is fast,

:50:42.:50:48.

faster than the time where he won the World Championships in 2011.

:50:49.:50:53.

Still would have won two years ago. Very good semi. Brilliant swim from

:50:54.:51:00.

Camille Lacourt. It amazes me that he is able to get those huge, long

:51:01.:51:04.

levers around as fast as he does. You would expect a sprinter to maybe

:51:05.:51:10.

be smaller. But he is so efficient under the water. Very good

:51:11.:51:16.

technician. 24.3, the fastest time in the world by a long way. Very

:51:17.:51:22.

strong underwater. Get the long body away, very quick. Beautifully

:51:23.:51:28.

steelhead position. Head and shoulders above the rest here. Get

:51:29.:51:33.

that arm over. Finishing on a full stroke. Setting a real tough marker

:51:34.:51:37.

down for tomorrow night, Camille Lacourt. He doesn't want to elect

:51:38.:51:42.

this title go. He's won it twice already. 1.26 out of the world

:51:43.:51:48.

record, not impossible. He was very close to the 50 metres mark. Lacourt

:51:49.:51:56.

wins the backstroke, Grevers second, Pavel Sankovich third. The second

:51:57.:52:05.

semifinal is loaded. Gold medallists on the 100. Xu China in five. The

:52:06.:52:13.

fastest in the world in six, Justin Ress.

:52:14.:52:22.

they had a bit of a debt after the fantastic 400 metres freestyle.

:52:23.:52:38.

Really splendid, carried that team for years. They are having a

:52:39.:52:42.

revolution on the female side, lots of good young swimmers coming

:52:43.:52:46.

through. It's exciting next year for the Commonwealth Games. Fantastic

:52:47.:52:57.

reception every time a Hungarian comes out in this arena. On the

:52:58.:53:05.

banks of the beautiful river Danube. The fastest man in the world is in

:53:06.:53:10.

lane six. Only fourth fastest qualifier for this semifinal.

:53:11.:53:15.

Seventh after this morning's heats. A second Frenchman, and he is good,

:53:16.:53:22.

Jeremy Stravius won a silver medal, tied with Matt Grevers, in 2016.

:53:23.:53:29.

This guide, Xu, what a beautiful stroke he has. I wonder if this

:53:30.:53:33.

might be short for him, this 50? I always think, he did well on his

:53:34.:53:39.

200. He is the second fastest time in the world this year. He holds

:53:40.:53:44.

that time, 24.4 seconds. This fellow, from Japan, we haven't seen

:53:45.:53:51.

him for eight years. He got a medal eight years ago, disappeared, he

:53:52.:53:54.

came back and seems to be back to his best. He certainly is looking

:53:55.:54:02.

pretty good. He is the world short course champion. Sometimes difficult

:54:03.:54:07.

to take a long break and come back. Interesting to see, this is not an

:54:08.:54:14.

Olympic event yet. They have added a couple of races, but not the

:54:15.:54:22.

strokes. Freestyle is, but not the 50 back. Another nose clip going on.

:54:23.:54:27.

I think at this level, you shouldn't need nose clips, you should learn to

:54:28.:54:32.

hold your breath. It's a bit village! They are using them more

:54:33.:54:37.

and more, I think. Some swimming programmes use them all the time.

:54:38.:54:44.

Nose clip gate, we will figure it out later. Second semifinal, 50

:54:45.:54:53.

metres backstroke. Jeremy Stravius in three for France. Koga in four.

:54:54.:55:01.

The fastest in the world in six. Six had an OK start, but not that great.

:55:02.:55:06.

The Black cap on the left-hand side, very good start. In the centre is

:55:07.:55:11.

Koga of Japan, the world short course champion. He won the 100

:55:12.:55:15.

metres backstroke at the World Championships eight years ago.

:55:16.:55:21.

Starting to fade a little bit. 24.04 is the world record. 24.44, four

:55:22.:55:27.

tenths of a second outside of Liam Tancock's world record. I am not

:55:28.:55:31.

sure that will go at this meet either. Eight years safe. What a

:55:32.:55:38.

swim that was in Rome in 2009. Very impressive from Koga. He just

:55:39.:55:42.

continued to power all of the weight down that length.

:55:43.:55:48.

That is Xu from China, he got a great start. There is Koga, look at

:55:49.:55:52.

that entry through the water. Very still had. Beautiful. The

:55:53.:56:10.

winner of the second semifinal, Koga of Japan. Very good swim from him.

:56:11.:56:19.

Early this evening we saw the women's 200 metre backstroke final,

:56:20.:56:26.

featuring the home favourite, Katinka Hosszu. I think the partisan

:56:27.:56:33.

home crowd thought she was going to do it. They were going crazy. But

:56:34.:56:38.

she only managed to take silver. Emily Seebohm took the top spot,

:56:39.:56:42.

standing on top of the podium to take gold. Hosszu in silver,

:56:43.:56:46.

Kathleen Baker of the USA took bronze. It has been a good night for

:56:47.:56:52.

the British boys. Tomorrow is the final night of racing. What are you

:56:53.:56:56.

looking forward to? We got so much, the four by 100 medley. I'm really

:56:57.:57:03.

excited for the men's relay. Hannah Miley has been waiting since day one

:57:04.:57:07.

for the medley, and Max Linfield going again. Britain has added to

:57:08.:57:12.

the medal tally, then brown and James Guy have put themselves in a

:57:13.:57:20.

bronze medal. -- Ben Proud. They will be wobbly walking along, and

:57:21.:57:27.

who can blame them? More reaction on the red button to follow this. If

:57:28.:57:31.

you want to join us for more live swimming tomorrow, you can do so on

:57:32.:57:35.

BBC Two from 4:30pm. Coverage continues on the red button with the

:57:36.:57:41.

800-metre women's freestyle final, and, as always, if you want the

:57:42.:57:46.

podcast, you can head over to the 5 Live website and download it. Some

:57:47.:57:51.

very proud and excited Hungarians here this evening. I was just

:57:52.:57:55.

pre-empting that! We will have the race on the red

:57:56.:58:10.

button. Congratulations to Ben Proud and James Guy, who both finished

:58:11.:58:14.

with bronze medals. We will have more brilliant Brits in action

:58:15.:58:18.

tomorrow evening. Join us from 4:30pm on BBC Two if you can. Now it

:58:19.:58:23.

is time to find the road, press the red button and we can talk to Becky

:58:24.:58:26.

about her event. See you then. Goodbye.
