Hello there. 24 hours after Valentine's Day - and there was

:00:36.:00:40.

definitely no love lost in the Skybet Football League today and the

:00:41.:00:43.

blustery conditions made for a hugely testing afternoon for sides

:00:44.:00:46.

right across the country. And with me to reflect on the day's big

:00:47.:00:50.

winners and losers tonight, a special welcome to the Football

:00:51.:00:53.

League's Ginger Mourhino and the Big bad Wolf - otherwise known as the

:00:54.:00:56.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche and Reading striker Jason Roberts. Guys,

:00:57.:01:00.

great to see you. And here's what's coming up tonight. Having suffered

:01:01.:01:09.

their fourth defeat in six games at Watford, will fresh Chinese

:01:10.:01:14.

investment at Saint Andrews be a turning point for Birmingham? We

:01:15.:01:17.

will have the best of their game against Huddersfield. And it is

:01:18.:01:24.

another busy round of Madrid fixtures, so we have the latest from

:01:25.:01:27.

the promotion and relegation battles as the season goes up a gear. Six

:01:28.:01:35.

years on from guiding Hull City to the promised land of Premier League

:01:36.:01:38.

football, Phil Brown is once again chasing promotion with Southend

:01:39.:01:41.

United. I'm at Roots Hall for the visit of Exeter City. In all, we've

:01:42.:01:47.

got 62 goals on the way. Some, well worth staying up for. We start

:01:48.:02:01.

tonight at Deepdale, Preston, as the football family paid tribute to one

:02:02.:02:04.

of England's greatest sportsmen. Sir Tom Finney died yesterday at the age

:02:05.:02:09.

of 91. Arguably the most gifted player of his generation, Sir Tom

:02:10.:02:12.

was a one-club man, representing his home Town team on more than 400

:02:13.:02:16.

occasions in a career spanning 14 years. Add to the fact he also

:02:17.:02:19.

served his country in Montgomery's Eighth Army during the war, he

:02:20.:02:22.

returned to civilian life, winning 76 caps and scoring 30 goals for

:02:23.:02:30.

England. Twice voted Footballer of the Year at a time when he was

:02:31.:02:35.

earning ?14 a week. He turned down a hugely lucrative and potentially

:02:36.:02:37.

life-changing offer to play in Italy. Retiring at the age of 38,

:02:38.:02:42.

the man affectionately known as the "Preston Plumber" spent much of the

:02:43.:02:45.

rest of his life working tirelessly for his home-town club and for the

:02:46.:02:49.

good of football. He'll be sorely missed. Absolute legend. He was Mr

:02:50.:03:05.

Preston North end. He was order -- model father, a model person. What

:03:06.:03:12.

he did was immense. Not just within football but throughout the charity

:03:13.:03:16.

world as well. He is a big loss. The greatest player, and nice man, what

:03:17.:03:19.

more can you want? Few of the fans who came to pay

:03:20.:03:29.

respects to Tom Finney would have witnessed first-hand, but archive

:03:30.:03:34.

pictures and memories past down from older supporters, so everyone inside

:03:35.:03:38.

Edendale knew that they were honouring one of the all-time greats

:03:39.:03:41.

of the game, a gentleman and a wonderful family man.

:03:42.:03:45.

The brilliant winger war the white shirt with such the sinks 14 years,

:03:46.:03:56.

and his name was on every Preston shirt on what was an emotional

:03:57.:04:00.

afternoon. The slow start from Preston was understandable and

:04:01.:04:02.

Mathieu Baudry should have put Leyton Orient in front. Slowly,

:04:03.:04:06.

Preston started to hit their stride. Paul Gallagher latched onto a Scott

:04:07.:04:12.

Weisman cut back and was only just wide of the far post. Preston since

:04:13.:04:18.

the breakthrough but following a great knock-down from Kevin Lisbie

:04:19.:04:21.

just before the break, it was Mathieu Baudry who popped up inside

:04:22.:04:25.

the box Leyton Orient, and this time he did not miss. Just after the

:04:26.:04:31.

one-hour mark, Mathieu Baudry was penalised for a challenge on Craig

:04:32.:04:35.

Davies. Marking and mixed afternoon for the Frenchman. From the spot,

:04:36.:04:42.

Preston's top scorer, Joe Garner, calmly levelled the game, with his

:04:43.:04:45.

16th goal in his last 18 appearances. Back in November,

:04:46.:04:51.

Preston became the first side this season to beat Leyton Orient at

:04:52.:04:54.

Brisbane Road in the league, and almost completed the double, but

:04:55.:04:59.

Kevin Davies failed narrowly to provide the finishing touch, on the

:05:00.:05:03.

day when Preston paid tribute to a legend. He was a fantastic person

:05:04.:05:09.

for this football club, he had a fantastic career, and you can see

:05:10.:05:15.

from the comments nationwide and worldwide about him, that probably

:05:16.:05:19.

summed the man up. That stops a run of defeats for

:05:20.:05:28.

Orient, but that was an emotional day at the Dell with everyone paying

:05:29.:05:33.

tribute to Sir Tom Finney. We have not seen him play in the flesh, but

:05:34.:05:37.

it is clear that we have lost a very special football and a gentleman. It

:05:38.:05:42.

certainly seemed that way from the bits of history that have come up

:05:43.:05:48.

about his life. I knew him as a kid, my father always mention names

:05:49.:05:51.

like that, Sir Stanley Matthews, etc. To go from being a top player

:05:52.:05:58.

to being a plumber, that will not happen to many top players now. It

:05:59.:06:06.

was an emotional day, you could see from the fans what he meant. He was

:06:07.:06:11.

a figurehead for the community. To be a winger in the time that he

:06:12.:06:15.

played, I can match and he was kicked from pillar to post, and the

:06:16.:06:19.

never be booked sent off, that shows the stature of the man. The way that

:06:20.:06:23.

people speak about him, they speak of at him in the same sort of class

:06:24.:06:30.

as the likes of Ronaldo and Messi. He was the Messi of his time. You

:06:31.:06:38.

wonder if we will see his like again. Players move more freely now,

:06:39.:06:45.

it is rare that players stay at a club for that length of time and

:06:46.:06:49.

become, that get that legendary status, that 1-club name. It is a

:06:50.:06:54.

shame but it is a sign of times in football. Well, in The Championship,

:06:55.:07:03.

we start at the Goldsands as Sean's second-placed Burnley arrived on the

:07:04.:07:06.

south coast to face Bournemouth. For the Cherries manager Eddie Howe it

:07:07.:07:10.

was a chance to get one over his former club. While for the Clarets,

:07:11.:07:13.

they were looking to open up a six point gap on the chasing pack.

:07:14.:07:15.

former club. While for the Clarets, they were looking to open up In a

:07:16.:07:19.

week that have seen storms battering Ballmer mercilessly, as footballers

:07:20.:07:24.

were determined not to follow suit. The promotion chasers would be

:07:25.:07:28.

pushed hard by their hosts, who were quick to get to grips with the

:07:29.:07:30.

tricky conditions to stop Simon prances unleashing a shot that Tom

:07:31.:07:35.

Heaton smothered. Borno escape Turf Moor with a point fax to their

:07:36.:07:42.

record signing tequila rented. This was his only other goal for the club

:07:43.:07:46.

since joining from Malmo in August. That sparked the burly response. A

:07:47.:07:50.

double substitution just after 60 minutes that was a masterstroke.

:07:51.:07:55.

Keith Treacy converting the deflected cross from fellow

:07:56.:07:59.

substitute Ross Wallace. If Burnley thought that would be the turning

:08:00.:08:05.

point that, they were wrong. The home side redoubled their efforts.

:08:06.:08:10.

After Lewis Grabban brushed aside Jason Shackell, the keeper stood his

:08:11.:08:14.

ground at the near post before denying the home side again in

:08:15.:08:18.

spectacular fashion, shifting position to get his fingertips onto

:08:19.:08:23.

this header. At the end of a good week for Burnley, that had garnered

:08:24.:08:26.

six points, this was becoming a stiff test of their defensive

:08:27.:08:31.

resolve. They survived another boring attack with Yann Kermogant

:08:32.:08:36.

heading wide. On balance, the Clarets could not argue with a draw

:08:37.:08:40.

that made second place more secure, regardless of what QPR do on Sunday

:08:41.:08:44.

against Reading. The Cherries finished frustrated. In a game of

:08:45.:08:52.

poor quality because of the pitch, we got into the lead, and you hope

:08:53.:08:58.

that that would be enough, but apart from that goal, something I have

:08:59.:09:02.

said a few times this season, it is a disappointment, because in the

:09:03.:09:05.

main, we defended very well for the majority of the game.

:09:06.:09:10.

It was not the best quality game. More low lights than highlights.

:09:11.:09:19.

They did well to get the game on. Everyone knows how bad the weather

:09:20.:09:23.

has been down there. To try and get the moisture out of that pitch, and

:09:24.:09:28.

unfortunately, it played poorly, and it was hard work for both teams.

:09:29.:09:34.

Hard work for your players to get back from a goal behind. Yes, and we

:09:35.:09:40.

had played midweek. But we went into it in good spirits. As you can see,

:09:41.:09:46.

it was a soft goal from a set piece, from our point of view, and it was a

:09:47.:09:51.

soft goal from their point of view, getting a deflection. We were

:09:52.:09:55.

pleased, because we were not as good as we had been, recently. The

:09:56.:10:00.

comeback at this level shows real desire. Tell us about the success of

:10:01.:10:07.

Burnley this season, you were 16th favourites for promotion and have

:10:08.:10:11.

been in the top three since September 21, best start in over 100

:10:12.:10:15.

years. What is the secret? What has happened? Like any manager and group

:10:16.:10:24.

of players, you work very hard. We put it down pretty cleanly to the

:10:25.:10:28.

players, and to preseason, which added to the flavour and a mix of

:10:29.:10:34.

the group, and we agreed as a group that we can only go one game as a

:10:35.:10:38.

time. We have done that. We have a very good preseason. The performance

:10:39.:10:44.

levels preseason were very high, and we took that into this season. And

:10:45.:10:49.

then that builds confidence and belief. The home wrecker has been

:10:50.:10:52.

fantastic, we have been good on the road, good defensively. -- the home

:10:53.:11:00.

record. We have that belief and energy to the side. We have a good

:11:01.:11:07.

framework, all those good things. It is working. You see some

:11:08.:11:12.

similarities with the Reading side of a couple of seasons ago. Yes,

:11:13.:11:17.

consistency of selection through the spine of the team, the top two

:11:18.:11:21.

working hard on getting their fair share of goals, but working hard to

:11:22.:11:25.

the team, giving the team a good platform to build attacks. They

:11:26.:11:29.

obviously know what they are doing, defensively, linking it up, and

:11:30.:11:34.

working hard for the team. On the 1st of August when you lost Charlie

:11:35.:11:38.

Austin, I said on Twitter, that you had lost those goals from the last

:11:39.:11:44.

campaign, and the three remaining strikers had scored eight times in

:11:45.:11:46.

the league, and you did not get anybody else. You are one of the

:11:47.:11:53.

unbelievers. But 40 goals between Danny Ings and Sam Vokes, they have

:11:54.:11:58.

been phenomenal. Danny Ings is a good player. He was good last

:11:59.:12:03.

season, we used them across the front line. He has played wide on

:12:04.:12:11.

the left and wide on the right. He is part of Burnley, we wanted him

:12:12.:12:15.

there. He has been floating around clubs and going on loan, and he had

:12:16.:12:19.

not been the main star of the team, but he has been terrific. And Ashley

:12:20.:12:24.

Barnes has come in and made that challenge. It is a pretty small

:12:25.:12:30.

squad. Are you tired of hearing the pundits say, it is not going to

:12:31.:12:34.

last, only one injury away from collapsing. There is an aspect of

:12:35.:12:40.

truth to that, you do not want injuries, of course, you do not want

:12:41.:12:44.

to be affected by that, but if that challenge comes around, and there

:12:45.:12:48.

have been occasions when we have had people going down injured and we

:12:49.:12:52.

have managed to fill their slots, and we have only had 18 starters, to

:12:53.:12:56.

give you an idea how small the squaddies, but they are a very

:12:57.:13:02.

good, motivated group of players. We have got a good framework to the

:13:03.:13:06.

team defensively, and we have that strong mentality, that belief, as a

:13:07.:13:11.

group. And it has taken us a long way. We have the continues. -- we

:13:12.:13:16.

hope it continues. Next to St Andrew's, where

:13:17.:13:26.

Birmingham City have had a torrid time this season. Without a win

:13:27.:13:29.

there since September, Lee Clark's men were hoping to end their ten

:13:30.:13:32.

game run against his former side Huddersfield. For the visitors, they

:13:33.:13:36.

had the chance to put an end to their travel sickness after four

:13:37.:13:38.

consecutive away defeats. Laurence Herdman watched this one. Birmingham

:13:39.:13:41.

City sit nine points clear of the relegation zone. Solid progress with

:13:42.:13:43.

a young team, but the home jinx stretches ten matches without a

:13:44.:13:45.

league win. Mid-table Huddersfield live four points and four places

:13:46.:13:48.

above their hosts, but Huddersfield Town have lost the last four matches

:13:49.:13:53.

on the road. In a month there has been a turnover of 16 players at

:13:54.:13:57.

Birmingham, two changes today, with Lee Novak returning to partner

:13:58.:14:03.

Federico Macheda upfront, and 17-year-old Rhys Brown also stars.

:14:04.:14:09.

Huddersfield. Scorer James Vaughan failed a fitness test to face his

:14:10.:14:13.

hometown club, so Danny Ward gets the nod in attack. Former Birmingham

:14:14.:14:22.

City Academy striker Joe Lolley is on the bench after his move from

:14:23.:14:32.

Kidderminster. Clayton finds Smith. Knocking the ball around nicely,

:14:33.:14:44.

Mark Robins' side. Decent ball, turned over his own crossbar by

:14:45.:14:49.

Martin. The control initially met Dixon down but he found an excellent

:14:50.:14:52.

delivery into the Birmingham City penalty area. Danny Ward has gone

:14:53.:15:01.

across to take a corner kick for Huddersfield. They have pushed the

:15:02.:15:08.

big men forward. And the target is Joe Hart. It has just gone over the

:15:09.:15:12.

crossbar. Anthony Gerard, almost finding the back of the net.

:15:13.:15:19.

It came off perhaps the Birmingham City defend, PackWood. Just

:15:20.:15:31.

beginning to get ahead of steam, rob robin's side. From a distance. A

:15:32.:15:35.

shot on goal. That was a terrific effort from Danny Ward. It had

:15:36.:15:42.

Randolph scrambling away. Darren Ward must have been 25-yards out,

:15:43.:15:48.

unchallenged, collected the ball. Set his sights. A good effort. We

:15:49.:15:56.

have had some memorable results this season, in terms of wins. They are

:15:57.:16:02.

passing the ball well in these early stages. Adam Clayton is

:16:03.:16:06.

orchestrating most good things from midfield. Again, too much room for

:16:07.:16:11.

Ward, who will lift it into the Birmingham penalty area. The opening

:16:12.:16:16.

goal is scored by Oliver Norwood, the Birmingham City marking was

:16:17.:16:22.

poor. Fine finish by the Huddersfield midfielder. It was

:16:23.:16:29.

decent midfield play. Lifted forward by Ward. It was well taken by

:16:30.:16:36.

Norwood. It was driven past Randolph. Nothing Paul Robinson

:16:37.:16:41.

could do. Nothing that Reece Brown, the teenager, could do. Norwood got

:16:42.:16:44.

between both and finished in style. Here come Huddersfield once more.

:16:45.:16:57.

Dixon. Driven towards Ward. He got onto the end of it. Wells. He tried

:16:58.:17:04.

to back it in towards goal. Randolph juggled the ball. Finally, made the

:17:05.:17:13.

save. Another half chance for Huddersfield Town. Once more, there

:17:14.:17:20.

were big gaps at the heart of that Birmingham City defence.

:17:21.:17:27.

Caddis will try and fashion a cross. It was blocked by a combination of

:17:28.:17:48.

Clayton and Hogg. It's just wide by Adeyemi. It should have hit the

:17:49.:17:52.

target. Clever by the Scotland winger, Chris Burke. An accurate

:17:53.:17:59.

cross. That was a coat of paint wide. Here come Huddersfield on the

:18:00.:18:06.

edge of the penalty. There didn't seem to be too much on. Wells is

:18:07.:18:13.

already in scoring form since his arrival from Bradford City. He got

:18:14.:18:18.

away from Martin. He managed to force a save.

:18:19.:18:34.

It's a nice touch by Novak and Macheda. Plenty of room on the right

:18:35.:18:49.

side. Hughes finds Lee. It will come back to Hughes. Straight at the

:18:50.:18:53.

goalkeeper. The most enterprising passage of play from Birmingham in

:18:54.:18:59.

this second period. It was good build-up. Macheda started it. Lee

:19:00.:19:06.

joined in. When he found the past it worked its way back to Hughes, and

:19:07.:19:11.

his shot was straight at the Huddersfield keeper. Clayton. Width

:19:12.:19:19.

offered by Dixon, who has Caddis in front of him. And Clayton, Clayton

:19:20.:19:27.

running towards the penalty area. What a shot! Adam Clayton, beards

:19:28.:19:36.

are in vowing, and so are long-range shots like that. Adding to his

:19:37.:19:43.

winning goal last weekend. Clayton got away from Hughes. He just bent

:19:44.:19:49.

it. He deceived Randolph, the flight of ball in the air. What a strike

:19:50.:19:52.

from Adam Clayton. It's opening up here a little bit

:19:53.:20:08.

for Hammill. Onside is Wells to finish it. There was late flag.

:20:09.:20:14.

Wells wasn't aware he was offside much he drew an excellent save from

:20:15.:20:21.

Darren Randolph. Hammill unchallenged. Was Wells onside?

:20:22.:20:28.

Well, there are still 10 minutes to play. Disgruntled with the

:20:29.:20:33.

performance this afternoon, and the ongoing political shenanigans at the

:20:34.:20:37.

club, Birmingham fans have had their fill. Here's Macheda. It has got

:20:38.:20:47.

away #23r Southern. Is there a consolation late on for Birmingham?

:20:48.:20:53.

It was slow and laboured. Across from Caddis. There is a chance here.

:20:54.:20:57.

It's into the roof of the net. Birmingham City do have their

:20:58.:21:04.

consolation. Substitute Lee has at last drawn one or two late smiles,

:21:05.:21:09.

but none from manager Lee Clark. Too little, too late for the home side.

:21:10.:21:17.

Burke played it back to Caddis. A high looping cross. Zig gic does

:21:18.:21:25.

what he does best. High into the Huddersfield net from Lee. You've

:21:26.:21:34.

got to have courage and determination to come back from

:21:35.:21:41.

setbacks. Our fans quite rightly sank towards the end when we had our

:21:42.:21:46.

first attempt mid dwoel goal. You can't play in home games without

:21:47.:21:51.

putting them under pressure and not have attempts at goal. It's football

:21:52.:21:56.

suicide. That's what we're doing at the moment. That's not certainly

:21:57.:22:03.

performance... That's worthy of this club. I thought we passed it well. I

:22:04.:22:07.

thought we controlled the game from start to finish. I thought it was a

:22:08.:22:11.

scrappy game, you know, in stages in spells. Difficult conditions, but I

:22:12.:22:15.

thought we thoroughly deserved it. I thought we passed it well and nearly

:22:16.:22:20.

a perfect away performance. What is of concern to me is we have

:22:21.:22:24.

magnificent fans, it looks like my play hers are frightened to play in

:22:25.:22:28.

front of them. That's something we have to try and sort out quickly. A

:22:29.:22:33.

pretty honest assessment from Lee Clark. We will get back to that. For

:22:34.:22:38.

Huddersfield it's an toned their recent away form. Jason, two goals

:22:39.:22:43.

from midfield. That middle third you were impressed it I was very

:22:44.:22:47.

impressed. Ward was at the centre of everything good that Huddersfield

:22:48.:22:51.

did. Fantastic ball here. He isn't looking up. Noes where he is -- know

:22:52.:22:57.

where is he is. Fantastic touch. Excellent finish. He made the runs

:22:58.:23:02.

all game. He has seen him, knows where he wants to put the ball. The

:23:03.:23:06.

touch was fantastic because you have players closing him down. The finish

:23:07.:23:11.

was good as well. Norwood had an excellent game. In midfield they won

:23:12.:23:15.

the ball well. They won it high. Here, Clayton, show as little bit of

:23:16.:23:19.

quality, yes, from the keeper's perspective he will be disappointed

:23:20.:23:24.

with that. It moves a little bit. You would want your goalkeeper to

:23:25.:23:29.

get something on that. That was just the way they were performing in

:23:30.:23:33.

midfield. Stronger, won the challenges, pressed high up the

:23:34.:23:36.

pitch. It was the kind of performance you need away from home

:23:37.:23:41.

to win football matches at that level. One of the three sides you

:23:42.:23:44.

have lost to this season. How impressed are you with his men? They

:23:45.:23:51.

were very good. They have spent money this year. They have brought

:23:52.:23:59.

in Vaughan, Wells, amongst others. They had a push this year. I think

:24:00.:24:05.

consistency is their biggest challenge. O on their day, like a

:24:06.:24:10.

lot of Championship teams, on their day good side, hard to win games,

:24:11.:24:15.

they have been a bit inconsistent. What about the fear factor of

:24:16.:24:22.

playing at St Andrews, no win in 11. Was it too o honest? Maybe. There

:24:23.:24:28.

are issues, loan players going out of consistency selection that he

:24:29.:24:30.

found hard with the players coming in and out. To come out and talk

:24:31.:24:35.

about the challenges they face with their home form in the public

:24:36.:24:39.

domain, maybe that's something you would keep in the dressing room. The

:24:40.:24:42.

fact there is maybe a fear factor to come out and say it, does that

:24:43.:24:45.

magify the situation for young players and players who may be

:24:46.:24:50.

aren't use to this level of pressure? Each manager tries to get

:24:51.:24:54.

the best out of their team. Maybe he is trying to provoke a response from

:24:55.:24:59.

his players by speaking openly am he wears his heart on his sleeve, Lee.

:25:00.:25:04.

He means everything he says and he will want to share that with him. He

:25:05.:25:08.

used to play like that. We wish him well. Sure. Let's find out how the

:25:09.:25:15.

rest of the Championship unfolded then, starting at Portman Road where

:25:16.:25:19.

Mick McCarthy's Ipswich had the chance to go within touching

:25:20.:25:21.

distance of the play-off places as they entertained a Blackpool side in

:25:22.:25:23.

freefall. they entertained a Blackpool side

:25:24.:25:28.

For some Suffolk is unconquered frontier. Blackpool had never won

:25:29.:25:34.

here. They arrived at Ipswich with a a caretaker-manager and without a

:25:35.:25:38.

victory anywhere since November. Not that the they seem down on

:25:39.:25:44.

themselves. Haroun tested the keeper. The Belgian was involved in

:25:45.:25:51.

the somewhat chaotic build-up to one of the home side's better

:25:52.:25:54.

opportunities, gifting the ball away and watching with justifiably

:25:55.:25:59.

concern as Murphy let fly. The Irishman had scored a stoppage-time

:26:00.:26:03.

winner at Bloomfield Road in the autumn. Blackpool average less than

:26:04.:26:09.

a goal per game but set-pieces are a strength. McMahon's free-kick

:26:10.:26:14.

locating ma Kenzie. He located the ground and was the only visitor to

:26:15.:26:24.

claim an unlikely penalty. A third draw in five games for an interim

:26:25.:26:30.

manager in search of a permanent posting. A disappointed dressing

:26:31.:26:35.

room. We had a few chances to get that goal. I think if we get a goal

:26:36.:26:40.

and go in front we can go on and get a decent result. Had a flurry late

:26:41.:26:47.

on, but no, we didn't do enough to win. It I'll take the point. Nothing

:26:48.:26:51.

else I can do about it. It's a game we could have lost.

:26:52.:27:04.

Jonathan Bond must have feared the worst when he was beaten by Jonathan

:27:05.:27:09.

Woodgate. Offside said the officials. Watford survived and

:27:10.:27:15.

capitalised after the break. Fernandez Forestieri made it

:27:16.:27:20.

possible causing havoc when he ran at Gibson. Boro could have little

:27:21.:27:25.

complaint over the referee it decision. Step forward the stand in

:27:26.:27:31.

skipper for his 14th goal of the season. That was the good news. Now

:27:32.:27:39.

for the bad. Deeney had nine other team-mates when Diakite was shown a

:27:40.:27:46.

straight red card. Middlesbrough sensed their chance. If Graham had

:27:47.:27:53.

shown the abg are ra sill -- accuracy that made him feared four

:27:54.:27:59.

years ago. A player was sent off for a needless challenge on the

:28:00.:28:04.

goalkeeper. The referee produced a second re-yellow card for Ben

:28:05.:28:19.

Gibson. His departure left the gaps that players thrive on. The chances

:28:20.:28:28.

kept on coming. Watford moved ahead of Middlesbrough after three wins

:28:29.:28:32.

out of four. It's difficult for me to do the (inaudible) after all the

:28:33.:28:40.

things that that you said to the play happen, we didn't score any

:28:41.:28:46.

goals. We didn't do nothing that I told them in the meeting room. Game

:28:47.:28:51.

changed with the two sending offs. Opened up a lot. We had chances to

:28:52.:28:55.

make the game safer. Obviously, you know the longer we went without

:28:56.:28:59.

putting the second goal away the Middlesbrough were always dangerous

:29:00.:29:06.

as well. Military wall may have been perched just above the bottom three,

:29:07.:29:10.

Ian Holloway looked happy enough knowing a victory over Bolton would

:29:11.:29:14.

drive their opponents into the mire. That plan suffered a set back.

:29:15.:29:21.

Jutkiewicz is beginning to deliver. Two goals in four starts a

:29:22.:29:25.

respectable return. The home side felt hard done by after making much

:29:26.:29:30.

of the early running and could barely believe their eye as this

:29:31.:29:36.

effort was turned to safety. Bolton's backline was looking far

:29:37.:29:40.

from water tight. Easter was close to levelling the scores. Baptiste to

:29:41.:29:44.

the rescue this time. That goal was living a charmed life. Eagles'

:29:45.:29:53.

free-kick crashed against the post. Baptiste burst through the middle to

:29:54.:29:56.

realise the return pass had been delivered a fraction too late. The

:29:57.:30:00.

offside flag kept Millwall in the match. At the other end Bolton had

:30:01.:30:04.

Bogdan to thank for protecting the lead. A fine save to deny Woolford.

:30:05.:30:19.

Even if Bolton's style wasn't to his taste. Shittu was penalised for

:30:20.:30:24.

handball. Jutkiewicz had the chance to put the result beyond doubt.

:30:25.:30:32.

David Forde had other ideas. The keeper played a part in a move that

:30:33.:30:39.

rescued the match for Millwall. Steve Morison sprung the offside

:30:40.:30:46.

trap. Jackson couldn't beat Bogdan. Woolford put his name on the

:30:47.:30:50.

scoresheet. Both sides had to settle for a point a piece when they

:30:51.:30:54.

thought they might have had more. We had to earn that because our keeper

:30:55.:31:00.

made a brilliant save. Woolford smashed it in. I could only see one

:31:01.:31:03.

winner. We didn't get that. That would have been a huge impetuous to

:31:04.:31:09.

go above them. We missed the penalty it gave them the energy when they

:31:10.:31:13.

got the goal. Overall we hit the crossbar, missed a penalty,

:31:14.:31:16.

unfortunate not to take the three points.

:31:17.:31:22.

The BBC has a long-standing radio phone in for the people of South

:31:23.:31:28.

Yorkshire called praise or grumble, but all of their Championship teams

:31:29.:31:32.

in the bottom eight, maybe it should be renamed just crumble. Doncaster

:31:33.:31:37.

and Barnsley produced a feisty derby match. The visitors took the lead

:31:38.:31:45.

after hesitation by Sam Johnstone. And Martin Craney had an effort

:31:46.:31:49.

chalked off for a push. The experienced referee Andy D'Urso

:31:50.:31:56.

disappointed both teams, declining to give a penalty when Martin

:31:57.:32:00.

Woods, until a fortnight ago, I Rovers player, appeared to foul

:32:01.:32:06.

James husband. Some extensive discussions between public of and

:32:07.:32:09.

the fourth official. The equaliser came in first half stoppage time

:32:10.:32:13.

when Luke Steele had an aberration, allowing James Copping jetted pass

:32:14.:32:19.

into an unguarded net. He has been at Doncaster long enough to have

:32:20.:32:23.

laid at the old world view. Within ten minutes of the restart is called

:32:24.:32:27.

again, giving Barnsley that familiar sinking feeling. Danny Wilson is

:32:28.:32:31.

insisting on spirit in adversity and his charges displayed just that. The

:32:32.:32:39.

Tykes poured forward, with Jim O'Brien creating another opportunity

:32:40.:32:42.

for the German striker. Once again, Johnson was equal to it. In what was

:32:43.:32:47.

becoming a theme of close-run thing is, defender Peter Ramage was denied

:32:48.:32:53.

by the Doncaster crossbar. Ardsley have become used to luck stories,

:32:54.:32:58.

but assistant at -- persistence is a virtue and they got their reward.

:32:59.:33:04.

Even then, a rare away point was mismatched from their grasp, when

:33:05.:33:17.

Husband escaped. It was a tough game. We have no arguments with it.

:33:18.:33:20.

The referee did not see it. He had his back to play. I thought the ball

:33:21.:33:27.

was going elsewhere, and it happened in a split second, and by the time

:33:28.:33:30.

he turned round, the player was on the floor and it was a big shout for

:33:31.:33:34.

a penalty but you cannot give it if you do not see. It seemed like a

:33:35.:33:38.

blatant penalty and whether the referee saw it or not, obviously the

:33:39.:33:43.

fourth official has told him it was a penalty, whether he could hear the

:33:44.:33:44.

communication or not, I don't know. The other" the bottom of course,

:33:45.:33:56.

Millwall against Bolton. A game full of talking points. It is not a

:33:57.:34:02.

result either team would have liked. But some good quality and some good

:34:03.:34:05.

roles as well. This was a great header, a proper centre forward's

:34:06.:34:13.

run. Sean would have liked that. Across the keeper, and he did great

:34:14.:34:18.

with that one. They have got the penalty. I am sure that David is

:34:19.:34:31.

delighted, and then very soft, from big Jutkeiwicz. This is hardly

:34:32.:34:37.

free-flowing football, but sometimes you just get there. When you look at

:34:38.:34:44.

it, it is a fantastic finish, from this angle, to get it in from that

:34:45.:34:47.

angle takes a lot of skill, so that was an excellent goal. Ian Holloway

:34:48.:34:55.

said that Bolton were boring. He said you would be bored senseless

:34:56.:35:00.

watching that kind of performance from them. Was that really

:35:01.:35:04.

necessary? I do not think that is right. Millwall had a lot of the

:35:05.:35:09.

ball, but they were positive, they had a lot of shots on goal, but

:35:10.:35:14.

Bolton went there to get a result, and there are different ways to skin

:35:15.:35:18.

a cat, so if Bolton go there to perform a certain way, I am not sure

:35:19.:35:22.

that the opposition manager should the commenting on that, it is more

:35:23.:35:25.

important to focus on what your team are doing on the pitch. Let's get a

:35:26.:35:31.

fresh perspective on where things stand and -- 's stand in The

:35:32.:35:35.

Championship, starting at the bottom. Things are looking more

:35:36.:35:38.

difficult for Yeovil Town and Barnsley, but Charlton have got

:35:39.:35:42.

games in hand, and that the be crucial. It is tough for them down

:35:43.:35:47.

there at the moment. The bottom to have got it all to do. They have got

:35:48.:35:53.

games in hand but they would prefer points, at Charlton, if they are

:35:54.:35:58.

honest. The teams above them, who knows? To me, the big surprise our

:35:59.:36:04.

Bolton. I thought they were good in the first game of the season. Coming

:36:05.:36:10.

from a Burnley manager! I think they have got a good squad, good

:36:11.:36:14.

manager, good stuff, but they just can't quite get it going. Millwall,

:36:15.:36:21.

59 goals conceded. One win in 74 Ian Holloway, not quite the start he

:36:22.:36:26.

would have wanted, so they have to start turning some of those draws

:36:27.:36:31.

into victories. You were the only team from the top six to play today.

:36:32.:36:36.

We'll rest hold of the top spot? It is fair to say that they have gained

:36:37.:36:40.

experience over the last couple of years. The squad get-together from

:36:41.:36:44.

last year, and Nigel has got them going. They have put together an

:36:45.:36:48.

amazing group of games, to get that advantage. It is going to be very

:36:49.:36:53.

hard to call them back for anyone in the division. Who is going to be

:36:54.:36:57.

like Reading from two seasons ago, and putting on a late charge? When

:36:58.:37:04.

their players are performing, they can put a run, a string of

:37:05.:37:09.

performances together, so they are team that you would look at, Derby

:37:10.:37:17.

County, to maybe challenge. Brentford went into today's fishes

:37:18.:37:24.

two points ahead of rules. The opponents, Crewe found themselves

:37:25.:37:29.

flirting near the drop zone. It is not often that rings are run

:37:30.:37:41.

around Brentford, but a publicity hungry husky delayed kick-off at

:37:42.:37:45.

Brisbane Road. Not that it took long for Brentford to escape the lease.

:37:46.:37:51.

Alan Judge produced edge -- produced a goal that spoke of finesse as well

:37:52.:37:56.

as force. His arrival from Blackburn has strengthened an already

:37:57.:37:57.

impressive unit. The run has continued under Mark

:37:58.:38:09.

Warburton. Some possession football left Crewe mesmerise. Spectators to

:38:10.:38:14.

the spectacular, as Alan Judge let fly with a shot. The frustration of

:38:15.:38:19.

consecutive postponements was being taken out on Crewe. The visit is the

:38:20.:38:29.

bowl also make the month short list. The Crewe keeper Ben Gama, going

:38:30.:38:34.

through the motions with the dig. Some small consolation for Crewe

:38:35.:38:37.

when Clayton Donaldson stuck out a hand, whilst on defensive duty.

:38:38.:38:41.

Protestations of innocence were brushed aside, and the home

:38:42.:38:48.

supporters were given a reason to stay, with 20 minutes remaining on

:38:49.:38:51.

the clock. The greater likelihood during that spell was of another

:38:52.:38:56.

Brentford goal. George Savile, then Donaldson both gave Garrett some

:38:57.:39:03.

discomfort. The tumble filter register with the referee, but the

:39:04.:39:07.

Brentford boss saluted his performance. Three very good goals.

:39:08.:39:14.

Yes, the simple ones are mice to score, but we were very good in

:39:15.:39:20.

parts today. In general, some very good football being played. I think

:39:21.:39:24.

we deserved three points. Steve, they are good team. Yes, we knew

:39:25.:39:30.

that we would not be able to outplay them at home, we knew what to

:39:31.:39:33.

expect. They are up there for a reason, going 18 games without being

:39:34.:39:42.

beaten, for a reason. Next week's meeting between Brentford and walls

:39:43.:39:46.

will be. Spot. Wanderers stayed within swapping distance of the bees

:39:47.:39:50.

against Notts County. They went ahead early with Michael Jacobs

:39:51.:39:58.

converting. The magpies have stuck past -- three past Coventry last

:39:59.:40:03.

week but could not hike those -- could not hit those heights here.

:40:04.:40:08.

Callum McGregor could not quite take Notts County's best chance of the

:40:09.:40:13.

match. Missed chances were not restricted to the away side. Better

:40:14.:40:22.

to miss now rather than next week, perhaps. It did not matter here,

:40:23.:40:27.

with Wolves making sure of victory moments later, with Notts County

:40:28.:40:31.

standing off in defence, inviting Jacobs tissue, for his third goal in

:40:32.:40:37.

as many games. And rules with their fifth straight win. -- Wolves. I

:40:38.:40:48.

thought we played well in patches and defended well, and we need to do

:40:49.:40:51.

because Notts County threw everything at us in the end. I am

:40:52.:40:56.

disappointed with the level of performance. I am accustomed to a

:40:57.:41:01.

lot better than that. That is the overriding disappointment from my

:41:02.:41:06.

team today. After two weeks off because of bad weather, Rotherham

:41:07.:41:10.

were raring to go. And there was a free for all just before half-time.

:41:11.:41:20.

And Thomas scored despite protests for offside. His second goal in as

:41:21.:41:24.

many games. Rotherham were almost caught cold at later, but Francois

:41:25.:41:30.

Zoko making a brilliant stop. Stevenage had the better of the

:41:31.:41:36.

second half, and Francois Zoko made it to, unmarked from Jimmy Smith's

:41:37.:41:41.

corner. The bottom club thought they had done enough for a point, but

:41:42.:41:44.

reckoned without the Rotherham captain. The opening was not

:41:45.:41:49.

obvious, the relief certainly was. Steve Evans side have closed the gap

:41:50.:41:54.

on their rivals above, cementing fifth-place.

:41:55.:42:01.

It is not often that a match involving Peterborough or Walsall

:42:02.:42:06.

ends goalless, but testing conditions at London Road mitigated

:42:07.:42:10.

against entertaining football. The second-half drive from Danny Swanson

:42:11.:42:19.

proceeded this chance by Adam Chambers, with the Sheffield United

:42:20.:42:24.

loan player making light of the sticky surface, but failing to test

:42:25.:42:29.

the goalkeeper, as both teams found the heavy going the ground too much

:42:30.:42:33.

of a challenge. Credit to both teams for the football they try to play.

:42:34.:42:37.

Very bad conditions with the wind and rain. Both teams try to play a

:42:38.:42:43.

bit of football. Please do, with a clean sheet. Peterborough are free

:42:44.:42:49.

scoring here. It was an awful playing surface. We have now got

:42:50.:42:54.

three weeks without a game on it and we need to get something done to it,

:42:55.:42:57.

because it is going to cost us points. It is not the best pitch,

:42:58.:43:02.

but that is another point in the bag for the football league were other

:43:03.:43:09.

Ginger Mourinho, and Brentford, with three goals on Saturday, all of them

:43:10.:43:13.

pearlers. Alan Judge, fantastic ability. I was

:43:14.:43:26.

at Blackburn with him. You can see his quality. Might be harsh on the

:43:27.:43:32.

bulky, but that was a great strike. -- harsh on the goalkeeper.

:43:33.:43:37.

We spoke about there being a wind element to some of the goals, but

:43:38.:43:44.

from the point of view of Alan Judge, he's a player has got the

:43:45.:43:49.

ability to play at a higher level than where he is at the moment and

:43:50.:43:52.

if he continues to perform like that, he will be. Mark Warburton has

:43:53.:43:57.

walked in there, seamlessly. You know him well. Yes, he's a good guy,

:43:58.:44:04.

he was taking the under 16 is at Watford then became the academy

:44:05.:44:13.

manager. Whether it is as a football director, at Brentford, when the

:44:14.:44:16.

chance has come round, they have offered it to him and he has done a

:44:17.:44:22.

very good job, so far, for sure. We saw victory for Brentford, we saw

:44:23.:44:31.

winds also for Wolves, 2-0 against Notts County. Then five wins in a

:44:32.:44:42.

row, under Kenny Jackett. Considering, that the fence was

:44:43.:44:45.

leaking goals in the last couple of seasons. Yes, he has tightened up at

:44:46.:44:51.

the back. And look at the players, Jacobs, Hendry, players of real

:44:52.:45:01.

quality, but people know that about Wolves, but they have not been

:45:02.:45:05.

working as a team in previous seasons, which is why they are in

:45:06.:45:08.

this league, but looking at that defensive record, there is a real

:45:09.:45:12.

work ethic and spirit in that side at the moment. How hard is it to go

:45:13.:45:18.

into a club that has been surrounded by negativity for a couple of

:45:19.:45:22.

seasons and to try and turn that around? I know Kenny, he is a solid

:45:23.:45:28.

character, he knows what he wants from his players. He knows the

:45:29.:45:34.

market as well. Wolves will have to be careful. They have made some

:45:35.:45:40.

astute signings, not massive names, people who know the division and can

:45:41.:45:43.

get them out of it. That is his first task. I like Kenny a lot and I

:45:44.:45:48.

am pleased that he's doing a good job. As for the rest of League One,

:45:49.:45:55.

with just one point from their last six games, things were looking

:45:56.:45:58.

pretty dire for managerless Shrewsbury. Languishing four points

:45:59.:46:00.

from safety, the Shrews welcomed play-off chasing Port Vale to the

:46:01.:46:02.

Greenhouse Meadow. play-off chasing Port Vale to the

:46:03.:46:05.

The stats tell the story. 8 minutes were played before a shot on target.

:46:06.:46:10.

Woods with the first of only two in the entire match. Neither of them

:46:11.:46:17.

belonging to Vale. Williamson came closest to them. Shrewsbury got a

:46:18.:46:22.

first cleansheet in three months. We tried to get three points.

:46:23.:46:26.

Obviously, it's not worked out like that. Pleased with the cleansheet. I

:46:27.:46:30.

thought it was a better performance and grit about it. A bit of spirit

:46:31.:46:36.

about it. That was pleasing and a cleansheet, definitely. We could

:46:37.:46:39.

have done better with some of the crosses that went in the box, set

:46:40.:46:42.

plays, crosses in we should have been better with them. Pritchard had

:46:43.:46:50.

inspired Swindon to a brilliant come back at Port Vale last weekend.

:46:51.:46:55.

After his 30 yard drive was turned aside by Walker the match never

:46:56.:46:59.

caught fire. At least in terms of goals it didn't. Colchester's Watt

:47:00.:47:07.

over reacting to a challenge in the centre of the parkment the referee

:47:08.:47:11.

produced a red card for the former Arsenal youngster. No side in League

:47:12.:47:17.

One have scored more home goals than Swindon. Even against 10-men for the

:47:18.:47:22.

last 20 minutes they couldn't find a winner. Burn wasting the final

:47:23.:47:31.

chance in the dying moments. We dominated the game from start to

:47:32.:47:35.

firn. The conditions make the game a bit of a Lottery. We played good

:47:36.:47:40.

football in testing conditions. The only thing missing was a touch of

:47:41.:47:44.

quality in the final third. We deserved to win the game, no doubt.

:47:45.:47:52.

MK Dons need big win ifs they are to become play-off contenders. They

:47:53.:47:56.

didn't need for Oldham to take the lead before half-time. Lockwood got

:47:57.:48:03.

his first Latics goal. Whatever Robinson said to the home side at

:48:04.:48:08.

the break did the trick for Carruthers. He took matters into his

:48:09.:48:11.

own hands to equalise within minutes of the restart. One nearly became

:48:12.:48:21.

two soon after when Ben Reeves beat the goalkeeper, but not the frame of

:48:22.:48:25.

the goal. Oldham had been warned. The visitors found themselves

:48:26.:48:32.

reduced to 10 men when Kusunga was shown a second yellow card for

:48:33.:48:37.

tripping Gleeson. Worse was to follow. Oxley couldn't hold the shot

:48:38.:48:43.

from Carruthers. There was no denying Reeves for his tenth goal of

:48:44.:48:47.

the season to close the gap on the top six to seven points. Bristol

:48:48.:48:57.

City made the news in the week becoming the first English club to

:48:58.:49:00.

install a safe standing area. It's only for use at rugby at the moment.

:49:01.:49:09.

This spectacular opener from Baldock brought Aston gate to its feet. It

:49:10.:49:14.

Tranmere were back on level terms. Cassidy slammed in his first goal of

:49:15.:49:23.

the season. Rovers might have got the win if Lowe had converted from

:49:24.:49:27.

Cassidy's flick. In the event, neither side was able to climb away

:49:28.:49:31.

from the relegation zone. They couldn't even pull away from each

:49:32.:49:36.

other in this one. City thought they won it with 12 minutes to go when

:49:37.:49:41.

Williams netted his first ever senior goal. This time the advantage

:49:42.:49:49.

lasted only two minutes. Koumas, at the opposite end of his kaer radio,

:49:50.:49:53.

equalised for his first Tranmere goal in 12 years and first since

:49:54.:50:01.

rejoining Rovers last summer. It have been nice to go home with a

:50:02.:50:05.

win. I can't be disappointed in the magnificent performance they put in

:50:06.:50:08.

with their effort, determination. Not only that with fantastic

:50:09.:50:12.

football attempts. Looked shartered today. It took a lot out of them the

:50:13.:50:16.

other night, the emotions and everything. It's important on days

:50:17.:50:20.

like today that you don't get beat. The one thing we did do, we tried,

:50:21.:50:26.

we did try to win the game today. I'm not quite sure if that is what

:50:27.:50:35.

Bristol fans want to see. Revealing the players are tired. This is when

:50:36.:50:39.

things really start get interesting, you don't want to hear that, do you?

:50:40.:50:43.

No, with that amount of games, they are down there, trying to climb

:50:44.:50:48.

away. Maybe emotionally tired as well. It can be draining if you are

:50:49.:50:52.

top, middle or bottom. Particularly the bottom end there is more

:50:53.:50:56.

pressure and expectation. Especially the club the size of Bristol City,

:50:57.:51:00.

big resources and a big wage bill. He will want to get them up and

:51:01.:51:05.

running and get them out of there. They are climbing away. Not sure he

:51:06.:51:11.

will be -- should be offering that up to the public. Were pulled back

:51:12.:51:18.

twice in their game. League One is looking congested down there, isn't

:51:19.:51:23.

it? I suppose Stevenage, they have themselves, I reckon, they believe

:51:24.:51:28.

he will get out of. It Crawley's games in hands on their rivals? You

:51:29.:51:33.

would prefer to have the points than the games in hand. It's about how

:51:34.:51:37.

you start the games in hand. If you win the first two you think, we have

:51:38.:51:41.

more games in hand. If you lose, you think, we could be in trouble here.

:51:42.:51:44.

That is something you would look at from their perspective. Shrewsbury,

:51:45.:51:48.

with their recent run of form, they will be concerned. Crawley is the

:51:49.:51:52.

one that you really look at and you fear for them. Sheffield United are

:51:53.:51:57.

a big club. To be in that position is something that Nigel Clough will

:51:58.:52:02.

be desperate to turn things around? Major challenge for him. He has gone

:52:03.:52:05.

in there, they have got slightly better, but not took off as much as

:52:06.:52:12.

he hoped. Stle three games and Crewe. Tough one. They have good

:52:13.:52:18.

players. Trying to remote vat, reenergise it, Nigel is a good

:52:19.:52:22.

manager and got good staff, I'm sure he will get them back round and

:52:23.:52:27.

stronger going forward. They have to get it done now. Of the sides won on

:52:28.:52:34.

Saturday. As far as the top half are concerned. Leyton Orient, thankfully

:52:35.:52:40.

they have put an end to the consecutive defeats with that draw

:52:41.:52:44.

at Preston. Changing his goalkeeper, he had to use his squad, three

:52:45.:52:48.

goalkeepers in the last four. That doesn't help though, does it? No,

:52:49.:52:53.

absolutely not. I must say, they have done fantastically well -

:52:54.:52:57.

Similar to Burnley in some respects? Yeah. They haven't got the resources

:52:58.:53:02.

of everyone else. There is some quality there. They have goals,

:53:03.:53:08.

obviously. You would expect at some point they will have an awkward run.

:53:09.:53:12.

I think many have said, as you suggested, many have said that about

:53:13.:53:17.

us. To get to games 28, 29 before they had that run, it's a pretty

:53:18.:53:23.

good achievement. He will be hungry for more. He will make sure they

:53:24.:53:29.

push on. As for League Two, and having arrived at Southend in

:53:30.:53:31.

controversial circumstances days before the Johnstone's Paint Trophy

:53:32.:53:34.

Final, nine months on and Phil Brown's side are in the thick of the

:53:35.:53:38.

fight for the play-offs. Clem takes up the story with the visit of

:53:39.:53:40.

Exeter. The last time he was chasing pro it

:53:41.:53:52.

culminated in one of the most memorable moments in recent Football

:53:53.:54:00.

League history. That's a fantastic goal! It's the grand old man of

:54:01.:54:08.

football. Phil Brown's current job is not without its challenges. The

:54:09.:54:13.

issue of finally starting work on a new stadium has hung over Southend

:54:14.:54:20.

United for a decade-and-a-half. The financial consequences of relegation

:54:21.:54:23.

from the Championship in 2007 resulted in a transfer embargo that

:54:24.:54:28.

limited his squad to just 20 players for the early part of the season.

:54:29.:54:33.

During the current apocalyptic weather conditions where to train

:54:34.:54:36.

has been an issue, resulting this week in a four-day trip to Portugal.

:54:37.:54:45.

You have been topping up English football's most famous tan this

:54:46.:54:51.

week, have you? I don't know about that! We got to Portugal, thanks to

:54:52.:54:58.

the chairman, we were desperate for a bit of grass. Desperate to get on

:54:59.:55:02.

some training venue we could put work into the players. We haven't

:55:03.:55:06.

been on the training ground for maybe two or three weeks. When you

:55:07.:55:10.

tasted the high life, as you did a few years ago, how deep have you had

:55:11.:55:16.

to dig to retrench and go again and work at this level? I'm enjoying

:55:17.:55:20.

life from a personal perspective, grafting, getting back on the

:55:21.:55:23.

training ground every day and getting my hands dirty, as people

:55:24.:55:26.

call. It working with good people. And, getting a response from the

:55:27.:55:34.

players. The biggest word is "infectious" full of confidence.

:55:35.:55:38.

When he is around you it's hard not to rub off that confidence. I think

:55:39.:55:42.

it shows. The team spirit is amazing. The togetherness that we've

:55:43.:55:47.

got is absolutely a different class. He said to me he has calmed down

:55:48.:55:52.

over the last few years. I wouldn't have liked to have been involved

:55:53.:55:55.

with ham few years ago when he was at Hull. Hopefully we are at the

:55:56.:55:59.

forefront of a good finish to the season. If that takes us to the new

:56:00.:56:04.

stadium and a higher division. Thee are all the things we set out at the

:56:05.:56:08.

start of the season. If we achieve that and move forward and move on,

:56:09.:56:12.

who knows how far this thing can go. Do you know when the first salt will

:56:13.:56:19.

be cut? We are in the last phrase with the contractors we should be on

:56:20.:56:26.

site in spring. It it will be this year. What Brighton achieved is what

:56:27.:56:33.

we can do here. Post arrives going on within the bigger picture. That,

:56:34.:56:38.

for me, is the good feel. Now it means for nothing unless players

:56:39.:56:43.

walk across the white line for 90 minutes on a Saturday afternoon and

:56:44.:56:48.

perform to the best of their ability. That's the challenge today.

:56:49.:56:54.

Results have dropped off, goalkeeper Bentley didn't follow instructions.

:56:55.:57:07.

Kehane got his first goal of the season. Two minutes later Southend

:57:08.:57:18.

were level through Phillips. This clever pass almost presented Keohane

:57:19.:57:25.

with his second of the game. Phillips was in the thick of the

:57:26.:57:30.

action for a second header. So far, so good for the home side. 2-1 it

:57:31.:57:34.

stayed until the final eight minutes. Sercombe unleashed the shot

:57:35.:57:39.

of the day to stun the home side. Worthy of the winner surely? That

:57:40.:57:44.

was just around the corner. Keep an eye on Elliott Richards, who is on

:57:45.:57:49.

the ball now. He choose his moment, three minutes from time, he scored

:57:50.:57:53.

his first goal since joining on-loan from Bristol Rovers the week before

:57:54.:57:57.

last. Brown's men are winless in five games and seven points off the

:57:58.:57:58.

top three. Not a feeling ing you have

:57:59.:58:10.

experienced here for quite some time? No, it isn't. Licking your

:58:11.:58:14.

wounds is not my style. Have you to put it behind and address the next

:58:15.:58:18.

one coming along. This is a lesson at this stage of the season. If you

:58:19.:58:22.

take your foot off the gas. If you think it will be easy. If you don't

:58:23.:58:25.

think there will be pressure at the end of the year, you have something

:58:26.:58:28.

to think about. Today was a reminder that you are the business end of the

:58:29.:58:31.

division. You are coming to the business end of the season. We need

:58:32.:58:36.

businessmen. From yous sfrating Phil Brown there. A couple of cracking

:58:37.:58:39.

goals there, Jason? Outstanding goals. What will be frustrating from

:58:40.:58:45.

Phil Brown's point of view the goals came in the last eight minutes.

:58:46.:58:49.

Fantastic goal from Sercombe. This is what I like. The feet from

:58:50.:58:54.

Richards. You can't think you will get a is shot, he gets the goal.

:58:55.:58:59.

Great ability. To get those goals at such a late point of the game makes

:59:00.:59:05.

it even sweeter. Of course it's a fine way for Exeter to get their

:59:06.:59:10.

first win. Two managers who you know pretty well. I suppose they're

:59:11.:59:14.

trying to make their name from very different angles, aren't they? Yeah.

:59:15.:59:20.

I mean he has done well for a number of years of Exeter. He went off a

:59:21.:59:25.

did a bit of Bath when they coming up through the division. Got in the

:59:26.:59:31.

FA Cup, went to Exeter, did a good job over many seasons. Phil, the

:59:32.:59:36.

opposite way round. Been at the top, under Sam Allardyce, went on his

:59:37.:59:41.

own. You have to give him credit. He could have bided his time until a

:59:42.:59:47.

job came up in the Champion snip Football is in you. You get the

:59:48.:59:51.

chance, especially management, I'm young and learning, it's in you. You

:59:52.:59:55.

can feel it. He's definitely got that in him. He has shown it

:59:56.:59:59.

already. The chance was available he thought - forget about the levels. I

:00:00.:00:03.

want to do it. I want to be outside there, get his hands dirty, coaching

:00:04.:00:09.

on the grass. Great challenge. Different challenge, resources,

:00:10.:00:12.

training pitches, like he said, he is full of enthusiasm, that is for

:00:13.:00:17.

sure. You agree? We spoke about 20 players to choose from. Not having

:00:18.:00:21.

the opportunity to train correctly and get your ideas into the players.

:00:22.:00:24.

To do so well cementing that place in the play-offs. He has done a very

:00:25.:00:26.

good job there. Elsewhere in League Two, Sean's

:00:27.:00:35.

former club, Chesterfield, retained top spot thanks to a hard fought

:00:36.:00:38.

draw at second placed Scunthorpe last week. Today, the Spireites were

:00:39.:00:41.

at home to relegation-threatened Torquay.

:00:42.:00:48.

What any promotion chasing side wants most against lowly opponents

:00:49.:00:55.

as an early goal to set the tone. Jay O'Shea must oblige the

:00:56.:00:58.

Chesterfield but the leaders found themselves facing an uphill struggle

:00:59.:01:01.

Baxter and exceptional first senior goal that Sammy Goodman will never

:01:02.:01:08.

forget. His good work was undone and farcical circumstances, with the kit

:01:09.:01:17.

from Michael Poke drop kicking, and giving him for one for the games. It

:01:18.:01:21.

did not affect Goodwin's confidence. The peonage on loan from Brighton

:01:22.:01:25.

unlucky for Conor Wilkinson wasted the rebound. Chris Hargreaves men

:01:26.:01:32.

with roulette missed opportunity with Chesterfield more rigorous in

:01:33.:01:35.

the last ten minutes. Jay O'Shea, in particular. They have rediscovered

:01:36.:01:42.

the golden touch at just the right time, and their opponents remain in

:01:43.:01:45.

the relegation zone, available be heartened by the performance and Jay

:01:46.:01:49.

O'Shea was able to make the performance more convincing in

:01:50.:01:54.

stoppage time, which was tough on Torquay United after a battling

:01:55.:01:59.

display. It was a poor game, but we came away from home -- from home

:02:00.:02:04.

with a game plan, took a game plan, to castrate us and stifle us, but

:02:05.:02:10.

then they get a breakaway. It took us through a couple of

:02:11.:02:13.

substitutions, and a bit of a fortunate equaliser. I thought we

:02:14.:02:19.

played well, we can paint them, we had a game plan that work, we had a

:02:20.:02:24.

fantastic goal from a young lad who could have had two, and then you

:02:25.:02:31.

made a bad mistake. After just one defeat in their previous eight

:02:32.:02:34.

games, it was hardly surprising that Accrington started on the front foot

:02:35.:02:39.

against high-flying Scunthorpe, and the first goal in ten months for Lee

:02:40.:02:43.

Molineux put them in front. Seven minutes before the break they took

:02:44.:02:46.

advantage of some slack Scunthorpe defending to double the lead. Peter

:02:47.:02:51.

Murphy with his fourth in five appearances. Accrington Stanley have

:02:52.:02:56.

won only three games on their own park all season, and when Sam

:02:57.:03:00.

Broomhall drove the ball home for his sixth in the goal of the

:03:01.:03:03.

campaign, you send some unease among the home fans. It quickly became

:03:04.:03:07.

apparent that Scunthorpe were taking control. But with the game in

:03:08.:03:15.

stoppage time, Edward like a point each, until David Murton swooped, to

:03:16.:03:27.

keep Scunthorpe's automatic promotion challenge Bang on course.

:03:28.:03:33.

The lads are devastated and I devastated for them. They put

:03:34.:03:40.

tremendous effort into getting a result and they have come away with

:03:41.:03:47.

nothing. Mansfield could do with a spell at finishing school. The

:03:48.:03:58.

dynamic first 20 minutes, and all that was lacking was a goal-scoring

:03:59.:04:02.

touch. Perhaps they could learn from a master of the art, David Connolly,

:04:03.:04:09.

27 minutes in, the veteran produced the type of goal that he has been

:04:10.:04:13.

tucking away for two decades. Another recent Oxford signing put

:04:14.:04:19.

game beyond Mansfield, Mickey Rose with his second goal and a yellow

:04:20.:04:23.

shirt, sending United on their way to a second home win. The Oxford

:04:24.:04:28.

masterclass ended with a crafted team goal, after the run from James

:04:29.:04:36.

Constable, Smalley completed the goal-scoring lesson. It was a great

:04:37.:04:42.

result against a team that put you under a lot of pressure. I thought

:04:43.:04:48.

we were fortunate to go goal up. But it is a great result at the end of

:04:49.:04:54.

the day. It looks from the scoreline as if we took a battering. I think

:04:55.:05:01.

we have had 14 attempts on target. The game should have been out of

:05:02.:05:04.

sight within the first 20, 25 minutes, I thought. It took three

:05:05.:05:13.

pitch inspections to pass Scotland's fit for action and the ground staff

:05:14.:05:15.

might have wondered if it was worth the effort when more common in

:05:16.:05:23.

front. Scott Probyn outmuscled a green parish and made the rest look

:05:24.:05:27.

simple. The finish of a man in top form. It stayed all square until 70

:05:28.:05:37.

minutes from the end when the goal went in that keeps the pressure on

:05:38.:05:42.

the top three, Ian Henderson with the winner.

:05:43.:05:55.

If it was not for Jack, 's super clearance, he would have put his

:05:56.:06:02.

side in front. And it was the Daggers who struck first. The on

:06:03.:06:06.

loan ridding youngster with a superb 30 yard shot, stunning the home fans

:06:07.:06:15.

just before the break. Dagenham, after their 2-0 victory in November

:06:16.:06:19.

had a chance to complete the double over Burton. A second yellow for a

:06:20.:06:31.

trip made life much more difficult. And the equaliser went in with 20

:06:32.:06:33.

minutes still to play. Burton were calling the shots but after the ball

:06:34.:06:41.

was scrabbled relate on, the ten men held on for a point.

:06:42.:06:47.

Encouragement from Tuesday's victory at Torquay turn to familiar

:06:48.:06:53.

disappointment for the bottom club, with Gareth Evans moving away and

:06:54.:06:59.

Fleetwood never looked back. The home side should have confirmed

:07:00.:07:02.

their superiority comfortably in the first half. With Jamil Matthews

:07:03.:07:08.

making his first-team return from injury, he should look away now. Not

:07:09.:07:13.

that the stayed in touch until the final quarter when another flowing

:07:14.:07:17.

attack led to another Parkin cross from which Evans could not help but

:07:18.:07:23.

score the second of the game, and Fleetwood climbed to fifth place

:07:24.:07:24.

after their first win in five games. Bard weathermen Newport County were

:07:25.:07:34.

forced to postpone the last two fixtures, so there were raring to go

:07:35.:07:38.

after a fortnight of, but a bright start at Hartlepool went unrewarded,

:07:39.:07:41.

but a smart start at Hartlepool went unrewarded, but the smartphone from

:07:42.:07:46.

the James so I'm on target, taking them above their opponents in the

:07:47.:07:49.

chase for a play-off place. Some comedy defending sealed Newport's

:07:50.:07:56.

fate. The defender diverting the ball past his own keeper. The

:07:57.:08:01.

victory rounded off emphatically by Luke Williams, and Newport now have

:08:02.:08:11.

not won a game since Boxing Day. Plymouth have been unbeaten in five

:08:12.:08:16.

home games, but they played the bulk of this game with only ten men after

:08:17.:08:21.

the referee dismissed Neal Trotman for his challenge on Ryan Bowman.

:08:22.:08:27.

The red card inevitable. And Wes Fletcher's deadly goal of the

:08:28.:08:31.

campaign arrived from the spot after 11 minutes. York had failed to score

:08:32.:08:38.

in four of their previous five league games but in first-half

:08:39.:08:42.

stoppage time, John McCombe made it 2-0 with his first goal for the club

:08:43.:08:47.

and two more followed at the end of the game. Splendid set up play by

:08:48.:08:53.

Michael Coulson allowed John McCombe to tuck away his second, and the

:08:54.:08:56.

goal of the game followed from Josh Carson. The 20-year-old Northern

:08:57.:09:01.

Ireland international running from inside the centre circle before

:09:02.:09:04.

lifting the ball beautifully into the corner to secure the biggest win

:09:05.:09:17.

of the season for York. Neil R rated the dons could snatch this, as long

:09:18.:09:21.

as they did not offend too deep crosses. Guess what happened next?

:09:22.:09:28.

Ryan Taylor with this goal. Frustrating stuff for Wimbledon who

:09:29.:09:34.

felt worthy of a point, at least. The save from Alan Bennett ensured

:09:35.:09:37.

that they did not get one, and the first win at home for Pompey since

Christmas. That gives Portsmouth a bit of breathing space as far as

:09:46.:09:49.

relegation is concerned. Chesterfield, the surroundings have

:09:50.:09:52.

changed a bit since you were playing there. Yes, a good new stadium and

:09:53.:10:00.

they are doing very well. To come back from 1-0 down, it is a big

:10:01.:10:05.

result, because it is getting tight at the top end of the league, but

:10:06.:10:09.

they have been up there all season. They have a place in my history, so

:10:10.:10:14.

I wish them well. The manager is doing a decent job. Yes, they have

:10:15.:10:22.

been decent this season. And the new stadium is quite different to when I

:10:23.:10:27.

was there. Outstanding away performance from York against ten

:10:28.:10:34.

men of Plymouth. Yes, I have been impressed with their style of

:10:35.:10:38.

football, and it does not get much better than a 4-0 victory. It is

:10:39.:10:43.

great that he has taken up the challenge to go there. He's

:10:44.:10:46.

implementing his style and they are playing attractive football. 2014

:10:47.:10:51.

has been a good year for them so far. Yes, you know that you are

:10:52.:10:57.

performing well when you get five wins, and that has shot them up the

:10:58.:11:01.

league. It might be too much to look into the play-offs, but it has

:11:02.:11:03.

staved off any threat of relegation. How do you see this panning out? A

:11:04.:11:14.

bit of a gap from Southend to Burton. Is the race on for the last

:11:15.:11:22.

play-off place? It is the nature of all these divisions, 3-point makes

:11:23.:11:25.

all the difference, you can have a good week and things change. It is a

:11:26.:11:35.

big ask. But you are looking at that side of it, Southend upwards, they

:11:36.:11:37.

are going to be challenging. They have put down a marker, so they will

:11:38.:11:42.

be disappointed if anyone comes out of that. At the bottom, a side that

:11:43.:11:49.

you asked quite close to, Northampton. Yes, my little boy,

:11:50.:11:55.

Max, plays there. I played there, myself. I know the chairman, the

:11:56.:12:03.

club, he has put a lot of money in over the years, and I wish Chris

:12:04.:12:09.

well. I am still resident in Northampton so I want the club to be

:12:10.:12:13.

in the division, that is for sure. And Torquay, were duped made your

:12:14.:12:19.

league debut. Yes, that is a club that is close to my heart. A run of

:12:20.:12:26.

games would give them the chance to shoot up that league. Before we go,

:12:27.:12:32.

don't forget, Winter Olympics coverage continues at Sunday at my

:12:33.:12:38.

name on BBC Two. We will be back next Saturday after Match of the

:12:39.:12:40.

Day, to reflect on another easy day in the foot all-league, from five

:12:41.:12:46.

the midnight. Good to see you, Jason, and thank you, too, for your

:12:47.:12:51.

company. From all of us, good night.

:12:52.:12:53.
