Evening. We've got drama by the bucket loads for you tonight from

the Capital One cup. And both sides involved in Europe enter the fray.

And Liverpool is on this evening. With me is Mark Bright and he's

here to reflect on the cup heroes and villains of the last 24 hours

Could Steve Clark's side make it a double against the side struggling

for form under Brendan Rodgers? Manchester United haven't exactly

been mooseing Rooney, since the arrival of Persie.

Leeds were one of the eight clubs from the lower divisions facing

Premiership opposition. We've action from their match against

Everton. And after ten upsets in the second

round, we have a few more on the way tonight.

Our first up tonight is the Hawthorne's where Steve Clark's

managing career has got off to a promising start.

For Liverpool, the get kicked off their worst start in over a century

under their new managers. So could they turn around their poor

that pass. An early free kick for West Brom.

The goalkeeper, Brad Jones seems to have lost it.

that's nowhere near as bad, nowhere near, not even in the same ball

park as the attack on Henderson. Oh, he just skimmed the carrots

barment Unlicky, Foster was just off the line, and Pec noticed it.

He's never scored for Liverpool. And wasn't far away there. All the

Foster in this mood? Well, Ben Foster is having one of those

nights. Pacheco's first thought here was to test the keeper and

again Ben Foster just didn't seem to get to grips with it. But it did

Great Liverpool goal, beautifully worked. Nuri Sahin with what might

be the winner. A great goal. Really good goal, the

substitute, Suso right at the heart of it.

With eight minutes to go, Liverpool are in front. Look at this from

Suso. Positive thinking, a little feint, good run by aSadie, and

Sahin has scored his first two Liverpool goals here tonight. Can

West Bromwich Albion save themselves now?

Danger here, Jones on the near post, a good save Fortune. A terrific

effort. From an unpromising angle.

Liverpool are probably a kick away from the fourth round.

They are through. Brendan Rodgers picked what might be the least

experienced Liverpool side ever to take the field in a senior game.

But it's finished 1-2 for Liverpool. Brendan, congratulations, if that's

the future of Liverpool football club then the future is pretty

bright, because your kids were exceptional. Yes, it was fantastic.

An outstanding performance. But I have to say I'm in the surprised,

all of our performances this year have been excellent. Eye the first

games of the season weren't so good and against arsenal we weren't so

good, but a lot of our games have been good and the tempo of our

games has been really picking up and tonight was fantastic and it's

great to see the kids play with confidence and that nice football

arrogance with the ball. We started positive and got a break. And then

we just seemed to sit off the game a little bit and allowed Liverpool

to pass the ball, which we were hoping not to allow them to do.

think the manner of their goal seemed to knock the wind out of our

control of the game. Mark interestingly, much has been

made of Brendan Rodgers' side and he needs his young terse to step up.

They didn't let him down. Eye he changed the team, which was brave.

They had eight players 24 years of age or under with the exception of

Carragher and Jones. I thought they were really good. Both goalkeepers

didn't cover themselves in glory tonight, but Sahin, that's the tap

in there and I just felt that they really played well. They moved the

ball around and Rodgers said they played with a bit of swagger and

the way he wanted the team to play. They're a team in the bottom three

and that's their first domestic victory and that's important.

that was after a shaky first half, when it was one of the more

experienced heads that let Liverpool down and the fans were

fearing the worst. Yes, the first cross of the game really, he went

in to collect and let it in. He's probably annoyed with himself there.

And this is another clanger here. I thought Ben Foster's handling all

night was disappointing. And the first domestic win for

Liverpool, it could be a turning point. It's not been the easiest of

starts for Boaz this season, but there are signs that the fans are

there are signs that the fans are warming to the new manage er.

For all the talk of an adjustment peered, Tottenham have not tasted

defeat since the opening of the season.

Tottenham always looked likely to side step this banana skin, but

their regular scorer gave them the lead. As expected, several

Tottenham players got a game at Brompton park. Townsend made the

most of his run out with a goal. After that, several members of the

new-look squad for Spurs sensed the opportunity to get off the mark for

the club. Ceing abbot said this could be a

game to tell the grandchildren abone -- only if he wants to give

them night marries. Spurs go into round four for the first time in

three seasons. With a side like that that come and

do everything right and show respect and make sure they're

professional and play the game properly, it's always going to be

difficult for our side and they did that tonight and you have to give

them immense credit for that. The Premier League's bottom two

could forget their troubles for one night.

A goal on the end of a free kick, but the celebrations were kept low

in respect for the old club. But this was a characteristically

flab buoyant celebration. But it was premature.

A new candidate for goal of the gape in a high-quality scoring

contest. That flick had Reading in front for

the first time with just nine minutes to go. Rangers could not

recover, the Russian causing chaos again in the closing seconds to

force a foul. A more conventional chance this

time, but it was squandered. The save kept the score down, but

Brian McDermott's men have finally taken a Premiership scalp this

season. Whatever the results, we have to be that kind of team. We

haven't got the finances that some of these massive teams have got,

but we have to find a way and that's what we're going to do.

Before this game, the club found a moment to remember John Bond who

passed away on Tuesday. The club's second-longest serving manager, he

took the club to the league final in 1975 and would have appreciated

the attacking football played here. The Canaries took the lead and Teti

scored a debut goal. But mark Bone was also making a

first appearance. Norwich emerged unscathed in a game

where victory should have been more comfortable but the goals are not

flowing for the Canaries at the moment, and Norwich could not

finish off their league one opponents.

Norwich slid through but need to find the scoring boots. If you look

at the quality that they've got, a lot of experience as well, able to

make changes as well. But, yeah, we should have perhaps had the game

wrapped up a little bit more comfortably than what we did, but

delighted to have gone through. With 1 changes, Arsenal took time

to click against league one strugglers, Coventry, until 39

minutes in, the �12 million man was finally off the mark. So the

evening served a useful purpose for the Gunners.

Brown was panicked by the Russian shortly after the break hand ing

Giraud another chance to hit back at the critics.

But Chamberlain's first Goal of the Season was one to saver.

But he wasn't the only one out to impress. Theo wool cot set out to

impress and finishes like this can only help his cause. By now it was

obviously that the Sky Blue's previous wins would remain the only

success of the season. It's perfectly possible to bounce

back from a hammering at the Emirates, as Southampton can TV,

but wool cot made the score line 6- 1. The club who have made it to the

quarter finals nine years in row made it by a distance. In the

second half our offensive potential made the difference, with wool cot

and Chamberlain. And there were four players, of course, who can

make a difference, and they did it. But overall I was pleased with the

Our thoughts go to John Bond's family tonight. He was certainlyly

one of the games colourful characters. As for Arsenal, 12

goals in the last two home games. They're certainly not missing a

certain Dutchman. And wool cot is reiterating that claim he's made

before that he is more comfortable up front. He wants to play

centrally. He scores the first one from the right side and then he

cuts inside. His goal record is very good. He scored 12 goals last

season and three this season. He's a one in three man, and if he can

continue that, winger will not want him centrally.

How much of an important win is this for Reading? They've had a

tough start. What you hope is to build from something to come back

and win 3-2 away from home against QPR, one place above them in the

Premier League, and they will take confidence from it that they can

win away from home, so let's win at home.

Against Carlisle, I don't think the opposition will win. They're

expected to win. It's 40 years since Newcastle last won at these

grounds. Newcastle took four points off

United in the league last season. Sir Alex made 11 changes bringing

back Rooney and Fletcher. There were nine changes to

Amiobi rising unchallenged in the area and it was a swing in the end

Anderson, a brilliant save by Elliot. And just like that,

Manchester United close to an opening goal. Anderson taking the

responsibility himself. And Elliot into attack here very quickly. Well

Well beck shunned the support inside and Elliot had his wits

Cleverly knows it. The fans can't believe it and I'm sure he can't

into the Newcastle technical area. I wonder if he's still thinking

about that miss a few moments ago. Away from Gosling, brilliant!

Anderson's first goal for nearly a year is one to remember.

The Brazilian breaks the deadlock in real style there.

There didn't seem to be too much when he picked up the ball, but a

shimmy away from Gosling and Rob Elliot had no chance this time.

Newcastle are mid-way through a series of seven games in 21 days so

we may see further changes in the team as the evening goes on.

And that should be it! And this time Tom Cleverley makes no mistake.

And after so many injuries last season he knows this could be a big

campaign for him. And that could be a big moment for him.

An excellent finish in the end. Rob Elliot unsighted. And Tom Cleverley

delivers his first goal for 18 goal he's had in the game, much of

his good work tonight has been done supporting the attack.

It is there! And how about that for an instant impact from Cisse, with

his first goal of 9 the season. And they haul Newcastle back into this

game. Great credit to Ferguson, a fantastic ball in and with that

sort of service, Cisse rarely misses. And that will be a massive

relief to him. A chance Hernandez. Off the wood

stadium tonight that the League Cup doesn't matter to them.

Cisse, oh, that's brilliant and so unlucky.

Williamson again. And well beck with the clearance.

But Pape Cisse inches away from what would have been a picture-book

equalliser. Well, you know, when the draw came

out you know it's going to be a hard game. Newcastle put on a

strong team but they're young players, and they handled it quite

well. Amiobi is a handleful up front and then they brought on

Cisse. And we put on some great football through the night. And

Wayne Rooney, a terrific performance. Tired, understandably,

but really pleased. Well, made a conscious decision not to sit back

and play deep against them and to step on them and make them be good,

and of course they are, so two or three times they cut through us.

But we created chances tonight and exposed their back four a little

bit and we should have had more than the one goal, I thought.

Plenty of positives. But in many ways, I suppose to take away,

especially for the two goalscorers they had to take something away

interest that game tonight for different reasons. Absolutely.

Anderson was brighted by injury last year, this is cracking. This

is what he's capable of doing. That is virtually unstoppable. He's back

to his best and looking leaner as well. Snim and Tom Cleverley

finishes this one off. And we heard that Rooney got a rollicing last

time by Ferguson so that looked like relief. And a great relief to

see Fletcher back in action? Yes, ten months out. It was good to see

him back and great news for Manchester United.

There will be a few drinks in the Tunnicliffe household tonight.

There is his dad there. And I think the drinks are on him.

He took out a 1,000 to one bet that his son would play for Manchester

one day. Brilliant Few would have predicted this

outcome against Aston Villa for Manchester City.

It all started well for the Premier League champions, Milner providing

a chance for scoring. That is the Italian's sixth goal in

four against them. And Barry steered Wyman's cross

into the net. And the home side's City's defence was less than

watertight and they conceded another goal.

Agbonlahore had the final say himself. City have now conceded 13

times in their seven games this season with Villa bouncing back

well. They're a young team, but have a lot of confidence which is

great. We have our ups and downs because we're young but they have a

lot of spirit. We are disappointed because it was the only trophy that

we didn't win, because in two years we won everything and we wanted to

try to win this cap. Are there any positives you can take from

tonight? For Chelsea a gentle canter into

the last 16. The side was much changed. And they

opened their scoring inside the first five minutes Inside the first

ten, 18-year-old Brazilian Pierthon took the ball. And still inside the

first 20 after a gorgeous ex change another goal.

So the last hour was rather surplus to retirements. Moses was sent

spinning, and protests notwithstanding, Romaeo was able to

take his first goal in Chelsea blue. Then Torres laid claim with a

splendid header to the next. And Moses also plundered his first

Chelsea goal to become the sixth different scorer on the night. And

there was still 20 minutes left to play.

Having lost their last two Premier League games, Swansea's boss told

his players that this was a chance to rediscover their winning feeling

and they were on course to do that, when Miju scored his fifth goal

since the summer. Le Josh Simpson's deflected effort

drew them level on the stroke of half time. But the league one side

deservedly led in the second time and Swansea are now heading for aen

an exit to a lower league. Gary Monk marked his first beerns

the season with an injury-time winner for the Swans.

We set out with a game plan and tried to make sure we were

difficult to break down. And the lads took the information on board

and I thought we equipped ourselves extremely well. Hitherto unbeaten

at up tonne park this season, West Ham were given cause for further

uplift with this second goal of the competition.

It was a moment that was far from indicative of how the evening would

develop. Bosceli has been fringe at best hins sis arrival two years ago,

but it was he who snaffled the first of four away goals.

Then Ramiz was given leave to foray forward and score his first Goal of

the Season. Perhaps it was that chip which

caused Allardice to say his team could not defend a fish supper.

And sure enough, even the keeper brought down a player for a foul.

The howling errors by individuals have cost us dear ly. Just before

half time we could have stopped the cross and we didn't and we should

have not let the centre forward just have a free run in. The second

ones are just a shot from 15 are 20 yards out. Not the greatest of

shots, which deludes or keeper. The third one we're trying to play an

offside when we shouldn't so so they get in there and finish it off.

From my point of view I'm really impressed by the attitude and

concentration that we showed and the effort as a team and that's

pleasing and opens up the competition for Saturday A good

night for Wigan. I'm still trying to work out how you defend a fish

supper. I know. Manchester City, turned over by Aston Villa and a

great performance by them, they needed a morale boost? Yes, and

going into that game, you'd have to say that City were firm favourites.

But well done to villa. Agbonlahore has a lot of ability and I'd like

to see him score more goals. It's a great victory for Aston Villa and

could boost them in the league because I think it will be a tough

season this year. Chelsea, they've played a strong

line-up. Yes. And that was a statement of intent. Yes, I was

surprised at the line-up. Pervert ham, prayed and Oscar came on. It

was full steam ahead and single goths, they blew Wolves away.

-- six goals. Neil Warnock is the latest manager

to try and turn the Yorkshire side into a force a gene at Leeds and

they couldn't have asked for a tougher time against ever tonne who

have hit the ground running this season.

The starting line-up didn't include a single Englishman for the first

get back into this tie. And Leeds fans praying that their team can

pressure is building from Everton. And Anichebe getting away from

Leeds. But it went the wrong side he has support. But not needed. A

free kick. Just outside the penalty area.

Austin gets away from Coleman. Diouf seems to have taken every set

piece for Leeds tonight. A goal, it's gone in off Austin.

"it's my goal" says the Jamaican international. It most certainly

was. Shot from the edge of the penalty area and it comes off

Austin. Leeds United edging closer to a League Cup upset.

And Everton are running out of time. Fellaini goes for goal. Cleared

away from Pearce. Marlsmarls with the throw. Fellaini

tries to tower his way through, Ashdown is there again.

Into the last ten minutes plus stoppage time and David Moyles's

team needing to score twice in the chance of a fightback.

There is still plenty of time to get a second goal but they

desperately needed this first one. A touch on from Anichebe and Distin

was there to meet the header from Pearce.

That comes off the central defender Pearce. Everton fans appealing that

it struck his arm. Let's have another look. The high chest.

Mirallas with the corner. And Ashdown right behind it.

That's a significant contribution the area and Anichebe goes down.

It's score or go out. Ashdown with the clean, clear catch and that is

it. Leeds United have knocked Everton out of the Capital One

League Cup. I suspect you've had some pretty

good cup nights, where does that rank? That's probably the top. This

is a strong Everton side. They desperately wanted to win the game

tonight, so to play like we did, not just get the result, but

deserve it and play like we did. Scored two and could have had a few

more, we were excellent. I don't think there was a weakness. Do you

regret making six changes? I do. But you could argue that maybe they

should have been starting in the last three or four premier games.

You'll always have a great atmosphere on cup nights like that.

But they didn't let Everton settle for a minute. No, not at all. It

was a great start and atmosphere. A huge following from Everton fans.

They're third in the Premier League and you'd think they'd play the

best team, but he went the other way and changed the team round. But

the team had seven injuries. Everton's performance looked sloppy.

Leeds set the tempo and got the early breakthrough. Yes, this

fantastic goal. White nips in. And look at bistin, four minutes into

the game. -- Distin. Everton got back at 81 minutes but

it was too little too late. This could be an exciting season for

Leeds with potentially new owners in the wings. This could come

together. Leeds are hoping to be taken up on a shoestring. It's been

done before Swindon Town are riding high and they pulled off the shock

of the second round after they dumped Stoke in a seven-goal

thriller on Tuesday night. Swindon are getting used to

upsetting higher division sides. This was the eighth occasion they'd

managed to do so since the Italian took over at the county ground. The

Robins went into a 19th minute lead. Former Swindon striker Austin came

into the tie having scored twice in Of thinks last two matches and gave

Burnley some hope with 16 minutes to play, but the Robins' first

appearance in the fourth round was sealed by this header.

I'm not crazy I'm not thinking of qualifying. Why not a big club away.

But our way is better. 50,000, a big chance for everybody. Our

forwards can come in 4,000, 5,000, it would be a fantastic moment for

everybody at Swindon and even, I repeat, there is one chance, not

any more in a hundred million, why not try to make this club football

history? Southampton's self-esteem was

hugely reinforced by the arrival of their first Premier League win of

the season at the weekend. And they moved a step further with

their brand new Slovenian player being particularly mischievous.

But 12 minutes from time, Mattock went rolling around and the ref ry

awarded an en tirely uncontentious penalty.

I think he's an excellent young player who's moved into the club

and handled it well and he's given opportunities and he takes them and

tonight he was excellent. Middlesbrough knew deep dale had

become a bit of a graveyard for championship clubs in this season's

competition with Crystal Palace seen off in ra previous round.

Everyone rolled in via the post but Haliday tried to claim the goal for

himself. And the Moroccan took full

advantage of scoring from the distance.

Jack Kinging finished off a nice move just before the break. But

despite making 11 changes from last week, the men enjoyed their second

trip to the north-west in the space of five days with small wood

sealing the victory. This was Sunderland's first ever

visit to Milton Keynes for an assignment, which, given the

earlier form, had the potential to be troublesome. And this lung led

to the skipper's fifth sending off in 7 9gipls. Happily, though, his

teammates responded admirably and Garner hit a beautiful free kick,

which took the stuffing out of the opposition. It's odd to think that

a year ago, James McLean was still short of his Sunderland debut.

These days he's a go to man and eight minutes from the end he

settled with for his manager. really disappointed in him, of

course, he's had a great start to the season for us. He is our

captain of the team. He keeps us going during the course of matches

and I think he's got to improve that side of it. We can't afford to

have him missing for three games. Merton boss admitted his side were

a bit lucky to be 2-0 up in the first half. And the visitors' hopes

of progressing beyond the third round for the first-ever time were

looking good when this header squeezed over the line. But

Bradford came into the game with four wins from four on their own

patch this season and a late double took the match into extra time.

Burton were pegged back by one on this occasion.

Wells touched in Hanson's overhead kick. Penalties were on the cards

until Derby let fly with five minutes of extra time remaining and

the bantams were taken the furthest they've ever been in a quarter of a

century. It lads deserve it and it's great, for the first time in

25 years we're in the next round. And everybody deserves it.

An amazing comeback from Bradford City and reason for optimism at

valley parade because they're doing well in the league as well. They

are, they're fourth. But with seven minutes to go, to score two goals,

and one was a cracker. And Derby has done 122 games. Well done to

him. You're hoping 25, the first time they've gone to the last 16.

And for Swindon Town you suspect there aren't many teams out there

what want to be drawn a gens di Canio's side. Well, they wanted a

big club and the bigger the better, but they played good football.

Southampton won against Sheffield Wednesday. And I liked their player,

he's good in the air and good on the deck and a nice turn of pace.

He has a lot of strikers to get through. Absolutely, but it's all

about scoring goals and taking the opportunity.

Now the draw has already been made and it's thrown up some incredible

ties. Look at the top. The North-east -y

pride at stake there. Look at Norwich against Tottenham.

Rodgers at Anfield. And Swansea and the pick of the bunch for me,

Chelsea and Manchester United. That will be mid- week. It's a big week

for Manchester United We have to leave it there. With league points

up for grabs at the weekend, a chance to see every goal across all
