And it will be time for these
two teams to settle it | 0:00:06 | 0:00:09
between the white lines. | 0:00:09 | 0:00:11
He's going to fire
towards the end zone. | 0:00:11 | 0:00:13
Montana throw. | 0:00:13 | 0:00:15
Touchdown. | 0:00:15 | 0:00:17
Rodgers looking downfield. | 0:00:17 | 0:00:21
The one-man wrecking crew. | 0:00:21 | 0:00:24
Unbelievable. | 0:00:24 | 0:00:25
Let's go! | 0:00:25 | 0:00:27
How did he do that? | 0:00:27 | 0:00:28
In the end zone. | 0:00:28 | 0:00:29
Caught! | 0:00:29 | 0:00:32
Unstoppable. | 0:00:32 | 0:00:35
Welcome to the NFL Show. | 0:00:35 | 0:00:36
We are pretty much halfway
through the regular season | 0:00:36 | 0:00:39
which means that it's time
for our half-term report. | 0:00:39 | 0:00:41
And later in the show we're
going to be, no doubt harshly, | 0:00:41 | 0:00:44
judging your beloved team's chances
of success. | 0:00:44 | 0:00:47
Also we will be showing
you highlights between the AFC East | 0:00:47 | 0:00:49
rivals the Buffalo Bills
and the New York Jets. | 0:00:49 | 0:00:51
And we're going to talk
one-handed catches. | 0:00:51 | 0:00:54
Are there more now
because of the gloves? | 0:00:54 | 0:00:56
Or are the modern players just
better than the old ones? | 0:00:56 | 0:00:59
And of course we'll bring
you all the best action from Week 8. | 0:00:59 | 0:01:04
This is probably a horrible time
to mention I've got to pee. | 0:01:04 | 0:01:08
You never know about a player
really, truly, until you get | 0:01:08 | 0:01:10
them in your building. | 0:01:10 | 0:01:12
And you can work with guys. | 0:01:12 | 0:01:13
This kid is unbelievable. | 0:01:13 | 0:01:15
The way he prepares,
the way he practices. | 0:01:15 | 0:01:17
As long as we don't
screw him up, right?! | 0:01:17 | 0:01:20
We're going backwards,
dammit, let's go. | 0:01:20 | 0:01:24
Before I lose my freaking mind,
we better figure this BLEEP out! | 0:01:24 | 0:01:26
Let's go! | 0:01:26 | 0:01:31
How many tackles have you got? | 0:01:31 | 0:01:38
Last weekend there was one game that
stood out above all others. | 0:01:38 | 0:01:41
It was the Houston Texans
at the Seattle Seahawks. | 0:01:41 | 0:01:44
Both teams started the game
within clear sight of the top | 0:01:44 | 0:01:47
of their divisions and so both teams
had plenty to gain by a win. | 0:01:47 | 0:01:54
And this was certainly a "let's play
this game to win" rather | 0:01:54 | 0:01:57
than a "let's play it not
to lose", wasn't it? | 0:01:57 | 0:01:59
It was entertaining
from start to finish. | 0:01:59 | 0:02:01
Yes, it was. | 0:02:01 | 0:02:02
I couldn't wait to watch this game. | 0:02:02 | 0:02:04
Because I wanted to see how
Deshaun Watson was going to respond | 0:02:04 | 0:02:06
against the Legion of Boom,
Seattle's defence. | 0:02:06 | 0:02:08
And boy did he put up
some numbers, man. | 0:02:08 | 0:02:10
And I'll stand up for that guy. | 0:02:10 | 0:02:12
He got off to that great start,
finding Will Fuller for 59 yards. | 0:02:12 | 0:02:16
Which is some way to
start against Seattle. | 0:02:16 | 0:02:19
There were mistakes as well
from Deshaun Watson, | 0:02:19 | 0:02:21
but when you're looking at a rookie
quarterback in his first | 0:02:21 | 0:02:25
year, taking on Seattle,
you will expect mistakes, | 0:02:25 | 0:02:28
I suppose? | 0:02:28 | 0:02:30
Especially against the
Legion of Boom, right? | 0:02:30 | 0:02:33
This is arguably the best
secondary in football. | 0:02:33 | 0:02:35
But what was so fantastic
about his performance, | 0:02:35 | 0:02:38
and you see this right here,
I mean he got lucky | 0:02:38 | 0:02:40
with the one before. | 0:02:40 | 0:02:42
Not lucky, but it was a good throw. | 0:02:42 | 0:02:45
Right here this is what
a good safety does. | 0:02:45 | 0:02:47
Reading his eyes. | 0:02:47 | 0:02:48
We talk about that all the time. | 0:02:48 | 0:02:50
And we talked about that
on the Tuesday night show and we did | 0:02:50 | 0:02:53
some quite in-depth analysis
on this game. | 0:02:53 | 0:02:54
Still our pictures have
Tony Romo's arrows all over it! | 0:02:54 | 0:02:57
As they did on Tuesday night. | 0:02:57 | 0:02:58
But that's absolutely fine. | 0:02:58 | 0:02:59
It's the way he bounced
back, you know. | 0:02:59 | 0:03:01
As a rookie, you make a mistake,
you say is he going to go under | 0:03:01 | 0:03:05
the tank or is he going
to perform well? | 0:03:05 | 0:03:07
And he did that, man,
it was a highlight film! | 0:03:07 | 0:03:09
He did that in Seattle, now, Mark,
I've literally seen people, | 0:03:09 | 0:03:12
quarterbacks, go down
there and disappear. | 0:03:12 | 0:03:14
Nowhere to be found. | 0:03:14 | 0:03:15
But he showed up over
and over and over again. | 0:03:15 | 0:03:17
Battled back through some
adverse situations. | 0:03:17 | 0:03:19
And yet he was up against
a superstar quarterback | 0:03:19 | 0:03:21
who showed his superstar
qualities numerous times. | 0:03:21 | 0:03:24
As we will see over the course
of these highlights. | 0:03:24 | 0:03:27
I mean, just the bigger
picture of this game is, | 0:03:27 | 0:03:32
you show it to somebody who as we're
showing you now, isn't massively | 0:03:32 | 0:03:39
into American football maybe
or hasn't discovered the sport. | 0:03:39 | 0:03:41
This is the game that
would get them into it. | 0:03:41 | 0:03:44
Absolutely. | 0:03:44 | 0:03:45
Because the main thing you always
want to see is the deep ball, right? | 0:03:45 | 0:03:48
The touchdown. | 0:03:48 | 0:03:49
The ball flying in the air. | 0:03:49 | 0:03:50
And that's what you saw. | 0:03:50 | 0:03:52
Both these guys can do that. | 0:03:52 | 0:03:53
They are a rare breed. | 0:03:53 | 0:03:54
As you said by the time
we are into the second | 0:03:54 | 0:03:57
quarter it is 14 up. | 0:03:57 | 0:03:58
And it's not just the deep ball,
but it is both quarterbacks, | 0:03:58 | 0:04:01
how they get themselves
out of trouble. | 0:04:01 | 0:04:03
Dissecting the defences,
doing everything, running, | 0:04:03 | 0:04:04
scrambling, getting out of trouble. | 0:04:04 | 0:04:05
I mean, they showed
a plethora of weapons, man. | 0:04:05 | 0:04:07
So many different things that these
two quarterbacks were able to do. | 0:04:07 | 0:04:10
And here's another deep ball
from Russell Wilson. | 0:04:10 | 0:04:12
53 yard strike to Tanner McEvoy. | 0:04:12 | 0:04:16
Do you think, I mean,
have you been in games similar | 0:04:16 | 0:04:18
to this where in some ways,
both quarterbacks are | 0:04:18 | 0:04:21
spurring each other on? | 0:04:21 | 0:04:23
Yeah and you know, as a defensive
back, the worst thing you can feel | 0:04:23 | 0:04:26
is like this guy is just
going to throw it right every time. | 0:04:26 | 0:04:29
And it seemed like both those
guys had their rhythm | 0:04:29 | 0:04:32
and they were competing
against each other. | 0:04:32 | 0:04:33
Even though they were
both on offence. | 0:04:33 | 0:04:36
The crazy thing about this is these
teams believe in their quarterbacks. | 0:04:36 | 0:04:39
And you can see it. | 0:04:39 | 0:04:40
They feel like no matter
what the situation is, | 0:04:40 | 0:04:42
their quarterback is going to get
them out of that position and get | 0:04:42 | 0:04:45
them into the right play. | 0:04:45 | 0:04:46
And they did it time
after time again. | 0:04:46 | 0:04:48
At 21-all going into half-time,
from a defensive point of view, | 0:04:48 | 0:04:51
we talk about the Seattle legendary
descents, why wasn't it | 0:04:51 | 0:04:57
legendary in this game? | 0:04:57 | 0:05:03
-- defence. | 0:05:03 | 0:05:05
Why did it allow the
Texans so many points? | 0:05:05 | 0:05:07
Mark, there's a song that goes... | 0:05:07 | 0:05:08
# Mamma said there'd
be days like this! | 0:05:08 | 0:05:10
And some days it just
happens like that. | 0:05:10 | 0:05:12
I think they went in thinking this
is a young rookie quarterback, | 0:05:12 | 0:05:15
we are the Legion of Boom,
we are Seattle, we are going | 0:05:15 | 0:05:18
to shut this guy down. | 0:05:18 | 0:05:19
But obviously this
man had other plans. | 0:05:19 | 0:05:21
Seattle literally had
no answer for him. | 0:05:21 | 0:05:22
Even though they did
get some interceptions, | 0:05:22 | 0:05:24
but they had no answer for him
the whole day. | 0:05:24 | 0:05:27
Let's watch Deshaun Watson
again evading the rush. | 0:05:27 | 0:05:28
Exactly what we were talking about. | 0:05:28 | 0:05:30
Just watching quarterbacks
get out of trouble. | 0:05:30 | 0:05:32
And then finding Miller
for that two yard touchdown. | 0:05:32 | 0:05:34
And then that took them to 31-27. | 0:05:34 | 0:05:35
Just from the Texans'
defensive point of view, | 0:05:35 | 0:05:38
as great as Russell Wilson
and the Seattle offence was, | 0:05:38 | 0:05:41
does it just highlight
that the injuries that they have | 0:05:41 | 0:05:43
had, the injury problems they've
had, is going to weaken them? | 0:05:43 | 0:05:48
No question about that. | 0:05:48 | 0:05:49
But what you have to understand
is the Houston Texans, | 0:05:49 | 0:05:52
they couldn't have imagined
that the defence would give | 0:05:52 | 0:05:54
up this many points. | 0:05:54 | 0:05:56
And they would still
have an opportunity to win | 0:05:56 | 0:05:58
this football game. | 0:05:58 | 0:05:59
Yeah but now their secondary
is getting exposed, right, | 0:05:59 | 0:06:01
with the loss of JJ Watt. | 0:06:01 | 0:06:03
They're used to having
more pressure. | 0:06:03 | 0:06:04
These guys have got to cover longer. | 0:06:04 | 0:06:06
Even though Jadeveon
Clowney was bawling. | 0:06:06 | 0:06:07
He was. | 0:06:07 | 0:06:08
He still doesn't have the same
amount of pressure | 0:06:08 | 0:06:10
that they used to have. | 0:06:10 | 0:06:12
So we have said that
going into this, Houston | 0:06:12 | 0:06:14
were still in touch
with their divisional leader. | 0:06:14 | 0:06:16
And now as you can see Seattle 34-31
up and yet a couple of plays | 0:06:16 | 0:06:19
later, Watson finds DeAndre Hopkins,
who then goes 72 yards. | 0:06:19 | 0:06:24
And that then takes
Houston 38-34 up. | 0:06:24 | 0:06:27
Oh, man. | 0:06:27 | 0:06:30
I mean, just as you watch
all these highlights, | 0:06:30 | 0:06:33
it is whatever you can do,
I can either do as well | 0:06:33 | 0:06:36
or I can do better. | 0:06:36 | 0:06:37
Russell Wilson too, man,
I mean everybody kind of forgets | 0:06:37 | 0:06:39
how great this guy is. | 0:06:39 | 0:06:41
Why? | 0:06:41 | 0:06:42 | |
You know what, because he's
a middle-of-the-road guy | 0:06:42 | 0:06:44
as far as his age, right. | 0:06:44 | 0:06:46
You've got the older guys that
you always talk about. | 0:06:46 | 0:06:49
Tom Brady, Aaron
Rodgers, Drew Brees. | 0:06:49 | 0:06:51
You forget about this guy. | 0:06:51 | 0:06:53
You forget that he has arguably got
one of the best deep | 0:06:53 | 0:06:56
balls in the league. | 0:06:56 | 0:06:57
You know, the way it drops in. | 0:06:57 | 0:06:59
And he is a playmaker and always
running for his life and making | 0:06:59 | 0:07:02
plays and it works out. | 0:07:02 | 0:07:04
So he found Jimmy Graham,
that put them 41-38 up. | 0:07:04 | 0:07:08
20 seconds on the clock,
I think we saw there. | 0:07:08 | 0:07:12
And having done all that
and praised him to the hilt, | 0:07:12 | 0:07:14
we now have to report that
during the week Deshaun Watson | 0:07:14 | 0:07:18
damaged his ACL and is now
out for the season. | 0:07:18 | 0:07:22
So this is devastating, isn't it,
for Watson, for Texans, | 0:07:22 | 0:07:24
and actually for fans of the sport? | 0:07:24 | 0:07:29
Absolutely, no way they're
going to be able to recover | 0:07:29 | 0:07:31
from something like this. | 0:07:31 | 0:07:33
Obviously they lost JJ
Watt who was the heart | 0:07:33 | 0:07:35
and soul of their team. | 0:07:35 | 0:07:36
They lost Whitney Mercilus,
also an outstanding football player. | 0:07:36 | 0:07:39
And now to lose this
quarterback who had become | 0:07:39 | 0:07:43
the face of the franchise,
a young superstar, there was talk | 0:07:43 | 0:07:45
about this guy possibly
being MVP of the league. | 0:07:45 | 0:07:48
And to lose this guy for the season,
absolutely devastating | 0:07:48 | 0:07:51
for the Houston Texans. | 0:07:51 | 0:07:52
I don't see a way
to recover from this. | 0:07:52 | 0:07:55
He definitely was going to get the
rookie offensive MVP of the year. | 0:07:55 | 0:08:01
You just feel bad for the guy. | 0:08:01 | 0:08:03
Hopefully he bounces back. | 0:08:03 | 0:08:04
I feel bad for the Texans. | 0:08:04 | 0:08:06
Too many injuries, way too many. | 0:08:06 | 0:08:07
Now they found a quarterback! | 0:08:07 | 0:08:09
OK, thank you very much. | 0:08:09 | 0:08:10
Here's what else
happened in week eight. | 0:08:10 | 0:08:13
The question trick or treat? | 0:08:13 | 0:08:15
All treat tonight. | 0:08:15 | 0:08:18
Remember when you were a kid
back playing popcorn, | 0:08:18 | 0:08:20
when you didn't care anything
about money, you didn't care | 0:08:20 | 0:08:22
anything about politics. | 0:08:22 | 0:08:23
You went out there and you played
every day for the love of the game. | 0:08:23 | 0:08:27
For the love of just wandering
around with your friends. | 0:08:27 | 0:08:29
So today go back to
that popcorner in you! | 0:08:29 | 0:08:31
The Pittsburgh Steelers
at the Detroit Lions. | 0:08:31 | 0:08:33
Keeping up with
the Joneses, a Smith. | 0:08:33 | 0:08:35
Juju Smith Schuster. | 0:08:35 | 0:08:39
97 yards! | 0:08:39 | 0:08:43
The Steelers strong
at the top of the AFC North. | 0:08:43 | 0:08:48
The Minnesota Vikings
at the Cleveland Browns | 0:08:48 | 0:08:51
in that old slice of Ohio
known as Twickenham. | 0:08:51 | 0:08:54
And the Browns have the lead
for the first time in | 0:08:54 | 0:08:57
the first half this season. | 0:08:57 | 0:08:59
They built a lead and
then saw it disappear. | 0:08:59 | 0:09:02
The Vikings six and two in
the driving seat of the NFC North. | 0:09:02 | 0:09:07
Touchdown, Vikings! | 0:09:07 | 0:09:17
The Oakland Raiders
at the Buffalo Bills. | 0:09:17 | 0:09:19
One of those days for Derek Carr. | 0:09:19 | 0:09:21
Intercepted! | 0:09:21 | 0:09:24
And the Bills keeping it high-class
and keen in the AFC East. | 0:09:24 | 0:09:29
He is in the clear! | 0:09:29 | 0:09:30
He is going to score! | 0:09:30 | 0:09:33
The rain fell in Washington
as the Dallas Cowboys | 0:09:33 | 0:09:35
came to the capital. | 0:09:35 | 0:09:37
Ezequiel Elliott
with better control. | 0:09:37 | 0:09:40
The Cowboys four and three
above the Redskins, three and four. | 0:09:40 | 0:09:44
Intercepted! | 0:09:44 | 0:09:46
Touchdown, Maraschino Cherries! | 0:09:46 | 0:09:49
It was a rotten way to lose a game. | 0:09:49 | 0:09:52
The Chicago Bears at
the New Orleans Saints. | 0:09:52 | 0:09:54
And he is going to score! | 0:09:54 | 0:09:56
What a great weapon
that rookie has got. | 0:09:56 | 0:09:58
The Saints top of the NFC South. | 0:09:58 | 0:10:02
The Denver Broncos at
the Kansas City Chiefs. | 0:10:02 | 0:10:06
In a week of the fumbled football,
this was a purer piece of bourbon. | 0:10:06 | 0:10:10
Marcus Peters. | 0:10:10 | 0:10:11
The ball is ripped up! | 0:10:11 | 0:10:12
Touchdown! | 0:10:12 | 0:10:13
Kansas City! | 0:10:13 | 0:10:17
The Chiefs rediscovering winning
ways to stay ahead of the Broncos | 0:10:17 | 0:10:19
at the top of the AFC West. | 0:10:19 | 0:10:25
The Atlanta Falcons
at the New York Jets. | 0:10:25 | 0:10:28
Might Josh McCown and
Robbie Anderson steal | 0:10:28 | 0:10:30
the show from the Jets? | 0:10:30 | 0:10:32
He's got it. | 0:10:32 | 0:10:33
Perfect pass from Josh McCown. | 0:10:33 | 0:10:36
Matt Ryan, as they say,
was having trouble on the snap. | 0:10:36 | 0:10:38
Another fumbled snap. | 0:10:38 | 0:10:40
Fourth of the day for the Falcons. | 0:10:40 | 0:10:44
Until he found, as he
does, Julio Jones. | 0:10:44 | 0:10:47
Looking for Julio Jones,
who has got it. | 0:10:47 | 0:10:49
The Falcons four and three,
hanging on in the NFC South. | 0:10:49 | 0:10:57
So here are all the results
from week eight. | 0:10:57 | 0:10:59
A couple to pick out
that you didn't see. | 0:10:59 | 0:11:02
Philadelphia Eagles continue
to march on with the 33-10 | 0:11:02 | 0:11:04
win over the 49ers. | 0:11:04 | 0:11:07
And the New England Patriots
getting some momentum | 0:11:07 | 0:11:09
after their early-season blip. | 0:11:09 | 0:11:11
They beat the Chargers 21-13. | 0:11:11 | 0:11:15
So we will focus on
the AFC first of all. | 0:11:15 | 0:11:17
As you can see plenty of teams
with winning records in the east. | 0:11:17 | 0:11:20
But the Patriots top it six and two. | 0:11:20 | 0:11:22
The Steelers also are six and two. | 0:11:22 | 0:11:24
As are the Chiefs in the West. | 0:11:24 | 0:11:26
The South much tighter
with the Titans, Jaguars and Texans | 0:11:26 | 0:11:29
all still hoping to get top spot. | 0:11:29 | 0:11:33
And therefore we are at that stage
where if the season was to end | 0:11:33 | 0:11:36
today, the division leaders
who all go into the play-offs | 0:11:36 | 0:11:39
automatically would be the Steelers,
the Chiefs, the Patriots | 0:11:39 | 0:11:42
and the Titans. | 0:11:42 | 0:11:44
And then the two sides with the best
records who are not the division | 0:11:44 | 0:11:47
leaders become the wild cards. | 0:11:47 | 0:11:48
And at the moment they are
the Bills and the Jaguars. | 0:11:48 | 0:11:51
And if you want to see
where all the other teams | 0:11:51 | 0:11:53
are who are in the hunt,
the Dolphins, the Ravens, | 0:11:53 | 0:11:56
the Texans and the Bengals
complete the top ten. | 0:11:56 | 0:11:58
So that is what it would be then
if the season ended now. | 0:11:58 | 0:12:02
But we're going to ask you to look
into the future and try and predict | 0:12:02 | 0:12:05
what will happen at the end
of the season. | 0:12:05 | 0:12:08
So the four divisional
winners first of all. | 0:12:08 | 0:12:12
I suppose the south
is the hardest to call? | 0:12:12 | 0:12:15
Yeah, that's going
to be a tough one. | 0:12:15 | 0:12:17
And I'm going to jump off the deep
end and say Houston Texans | 0:12:17 | 0:12:20
are going to win that. | 0:12:20 | 0:12:22
As a former Houston Texan! | 0:12:22 | 0:12:23
And I like what is happening now. | 0:12:23 | 0:12:25
OK, so you say the Texans
will win that division. | 0:12:25 | 0:12:28
Who do you think will
win that division? | 0:12:28 | 0:12:29
I will have to go with Jacksonville. | 0:12:29 | 0:12:31
Yeah, I like the way they're playing
defensively and defence | 0:12:31 | 0:12:34
is always going to... | 0:12:34 | 0:12:35
And towards the end
of the season defence | 0:12:35 | 0:12:37
is what is going to carry your team. | 0:12:37 | 0:12:38
So I'm going to go with
the Jacksonville Jaguars. | 0:12:38 | 0:12:41
Now when you look at the other three
divisions, is it easy to pick | 0:12:41 | 0:12:44
the divisional winners? | 0:12:44 | 0:12:45
Yeah, it's pretty easy right now. | 0:12:45 | 0:12:46
Everyone that's on the top
is dominating right now. | 0:12:46 | 0:12:49
They are dominating,
they're playing well in all facets. | 0:12:49 | 0:12:51
So Patriots, Steelers, Chiefs? | 0:12:51 | 0:12:52
Yes. | 0:12:52 | 0:12:53 | |
OK. | 0:12:53 | 0:12:54 | |
So that leaves us with
the two wild cards. | 0:12:54 | 0:12:56
The two other teams who will have
the best records to get | 0:12:56 | 0:12:59
through with the divisional winners. | 0:12:59 | 0:13:00
Osi? | 0:13:00 | 0:13:01 | |
Tennessee Titans. | 0:13:01 | 0:13:02
OK. | 0:13:02 | 0:13:03 | |
Tennessee and who as your wild card? | 0:13:03 | 0:13:05
Tennessee and the Baltimore Ravens. | 0:13:05 | 0:13:06
OK. | 0:13:06 | 0:13:07 | |
Why! | 0:13:07 | 0:13:10 | |
Laugh now, cry later! | 0:13:10 | 0:13:12
Sometimes I feel like crying
now and laughing later! | 0:13:12 | 0:13:18
I'm going Buffalo and then
I'll go Jacksonville. | 0:13:18 | 0:13:20
Right, because you've got Houston
as the divisional winners? | 0:13:20 | 0:13:22
OK. | 0:13:22 | 0:13:23 | |
So you think as well
that Jacksonville will | 0:13:23 | 0:13:25
be able to get to... | 0:13:25 | 0:13:26
What would be a wild card,
nine and seven, ten and six? | 0:13:26 | 0:13:29
In the AFC ten and six. | 0:13:29 | 0:13:31
OK. | 0:13:31 | 0:13:33 | |
So that's what you think as far
as the AFC is concerned. | 0:13:33 | 0:13:36
Now let's switch to the NFC. | 0:13:36 | 0:13:38
And as I said with the
results, Philadelphia | 0:13:38 | 0:13:40
flying in the East. | 0:13:40 | 0:13:41
They are seven and one. | 0:13:41 | 0:13:42
Minnesota have a bit
of a lead in the North. | 0:13:42 | 0:13:44
It is tight in the NFC South
but the New Orleans Saints got five | 0:13:44 | 0:13:48
on the trot and the Seahawks
and the Rams are tied in the West. | 0:13:48 | 0:13:51
So again if the season was to end
today, your divisional winners | 0:13:51 | 0:13:54
in the NFC would be the Eagles,
the Vikings, the Seahawks | 0:13:54 | 0:13:57
and the Saints. | 0:13:57 | 0:13:58
And the two wild card teams
with the best records elsewhere | 0:13:58 | 0:14:00
would be the Rams and the Panthers. | 0:14:00 | 0:14:03
And here are the other teams that
would be in the hunt. | 0:14:03 | 0:14:07
Falcons, Packers, Cowboys and Lions. | 0:14:07 | 0:14:08
Completing the top ten. | 0:14:08 | 0:14:11
I mean there are a couple
of divisions that have | 0:14:11 | 0:14:13
a little bit more debate. | 0:14:13 | 0:14:14
But again your eyes are drawn
to the south as the one | 0:14:14 | 0:14:17
that looks wide open? | 0:14:17 | 0:14:19
And we knew that was
going to be competitive | 0:14:19 | 0:14:21
at the beginning of the season. | 0:14:21 | 0:14:23
I didn't know New Orleans
was going to be playing this well! | 0:14:23 | 0:14:25
Obviously they are dominating,
I think they're going | 0:14:25 | 0:14:27
to pull that out. | 0:14:27 | 0:14:28
OK, so the Saints for you? | 0:14:28 | 0:14:30
Saints for me. | 0:14:30 | 0:14:31
I'll take the Saints also. | 0:14:31 | 0:14:32
OK and I'm assuming that
you would both go reluctantly maybe | 0:14:32 | 0:14:35
for the Eagles in the East? | 0:14:35 | 0:14:38
Yeah, they're running
away with it, man. | 0:14:38 | 0:14:40
Arguably one of the best teams
in the NFL right now. | 0:14:40 | 0:14:43
They're flying! | 0:14:43 | 0:14:44
Very good! | 0:14:44 | 0:14:45
The North? | 0:14:45 | 0:14:47
Minnesota of course. | 0:14:47 | 0:14:49
Jay Bell's best
friends in Minnesota! | 0:14:49 | 0:14:51
That defence? | 0:14:51 | 0:14:52
Probably the best in
the league right now. | 0:14:52 | 0:14:54
Got to go with defence. | 0:14:54 | 0:14:55
And the West? | 0:14:55 | 0:14:57
Seattle Seahawks. | 0:14:57 | 0:14:59
They are the veteran team. | 0:14:59 | 0:15:00
I know Los Angeles Rams
are playing really well. | 0:15:00 | 0:15:02
But the Seahawks are the veteran
team and I think later in the season | 0:15:02 | 0:15:06
the defence is going to... | 0:15:06 | 0:15:07
Experience will tell? | 0:15:07 | 0:15:08
All of that. | 0:15:08 | 0:15:09
Everything is going
to come into play. | 0:15:09 | 0:15:11
OK, so we are at the same point
where we need the wild cards. | 0:15:11 | 0:15:14
Who would like to throw
one up first of all? | 0:15:14 | 0:15:15
I'm going to go with the Atlanta
Falcons as my wild card team. | 0:15:15 | 0:15:18
Oh, you're losing your mind! | 0:15:18 | 0:15:19
Slowly but surely! | 0:15:19 | 0:15:21
Rams. | 0:15:21 | 0:15:23 | |
I'm going to throw
another one out for you. | 0:15:23 | 0:15:25
Carolina. | 0:15:25 | 0:15:26
So why would you go Carolina
and him go Atlanta? | 0:15:26 | 0:15:28
Because he doesn't know football! | 0:15:28 | 0:15:29
All right, that's why! | 0:15:29 | 0:15:31
I only played 12 years! | 0:15:31 | 0:15:32
You know what I mean? | 0:15:32 | 0:15:33
I don't know! | 0:15:33 | 0:15:34
And won...? | 0:15:34 | 0:15:35
And won two Super Bowls. | 0:15:35 | 0:15:37
I don't know anything
about football! | 0:15:37 | 0:15:39
And set records. | 0:15:39 | 0:15:41
But I don't know
anything about football! | 0:15:41 | 0:15:43
Jason knows football, not me! | 0:15:43 | 0:15:44
Anyway! | 0:15:44 | 0:15:48
Right, Carolina. | 0:15:48 | 0:15:49
Why? | 0:15:49 | 0:15:51 | |
Because I like, I mean, listen. | 0:15:51 | 0:15:52
I think they're going
to play steady defence. | 0:15:52 | 0:15:54
And I think Cam's going to get hot,
I think he's going to get hot. | 0:15:54 | 0:15:58
I pick Atlanta because Atlanta has
the better quarterback. | 0:15:58 | 0:16:03
And late on in the guy with the hot
quarterback or the guy with a more | 0:16:03 | 0:16:07
experienced quarterback is the one
who's going to win | 0:16:07 | 0:16:10
the game is for you. | 0:16:10 | 0:16:11
Can Newton is entirely
too inconsistent. | 0:16:11 | 0:16:12
Hasn't played that well outside
of a couple of games this year. | 0:16:12 | 0:16:15
Atlanta for me. | 0:16:15 | 0:16:16
Would you throw
the Rams in, as well? | 0:16:16 | 0:16:18
Definitely. | 0:16:18 | 0:16:19
Both Rams. | 0:16:19 | 0:16:20
You go Panthers, you go Falcons. | 0:16:20 | 0:16:21
OK. | 0:16:21 | 0:16:22 | |
I'm sure you will want to debate
with them or criticise them. | 0:16:22 | 0:16:25
More to the point, rather
than debating, you can find them | 0:16:25 | 0:16:28
both on social media. | 0:16:28 | 0:16:29
You can also use hashtag BBC NFL. | 0:16:29 | 0:16:31
You can tell them
exactly what you think. | 0:16:31 | 0:16:33
Let's go from one debate to another. | 0:16:33 | 0:16:34
One-handed catches. | 0:16:34 | 0:16:35
Is it because of
talent or the tools? | 0:16:35 | 0:16:40
Great catch and into the end zone! | 0:16:40 | 0:16:42
Hauls it in. | 0:16:42 | 0:16:44
On the board again. | 0:16:44 | 0:16:47
Incredible! | 0:16:47 | 0:16:49
I've never seen that. | 0:16:49 | 0:16:54
I've never seen a guy catch it
on his nameplate on the back | 0:16:54 | 0:16:57
and then keep his feet... | 0:16:57 | 0:16:58
Oh, my goodness. | 0:16:58 | 0:17:06
Touchdown at the far
corner of the end zone. | 0:17:09 | 0:17:11
He is amazing. | 0:17:11 | 0:17:15
# I'm a rock star. | 0:17:15 | 0:17:17
Stretching out.
He's got it. | 0:17:17 | 0:17:27
I need a pair of gloves. | 0:17:27 | 0:17:29
So to put the glove theory
to the test, we have | 0:17:29 | 0:17:32
all been given gloves. | 0:17:32 | 0:17:33
You have a pair of Rams ones
that took ten minutes | 0:17:33 | 0:17:36
to get your hands into,
because you're hands are so big. | 0:17:36 | 0:17:39
Jason has Minnesota Vikings ones,
because his friend plays | 0:17:39 | 0:17:41
for Minnesota Vikings. | 0:17:41 | 0:17:45
Is that Harrison Smith's signature? | 0:17:45 | 0:17:46
It is on the inside. | 0:17:46 | 0:17:48
For no reason whatsoever,
I have Cardinals ones. | 0:17:48 | 0:17:51
You think these make a difference. | 0:17:51 | 0:17:54
It might be difficult to get
across on television | 0:17:54 | 0:17:56
but when you put them together,
they are very sticky. | 0:17:56 | 0:18:04
Exactly, man, and I think
that is why you see these | 0:18:04 | 0:18:07
great one-handed catches. | 0:18:07 | 0:18:08
I was in the league 12 years,
I've been watching football | 0:18:08 | 0:18:11
20-something years and only recently
have you started to see these | 0:18:11 | 0:18:13
one-handed amazing catches. | 0:18:13 | 0:18:14
OK. | 0:18:14 | 0:18:15 | |
I think it's because of the gloves. | 0:18:15 | 0:18:17
Get up and throw the
ball to each other. | 0:18:17 | 0:18:19
Hang on. | 0:18:19 | 0:18:20
A word of warning. | 0:18:20 | 0:18:22
In rehearsal you threw
it at his head. | 0:18:22 | 0:18:25
Right. | 0:18:25 | 0:18:28
I'm sorry. | 0:18:28 | 0:18:29
With anger. | 0:18:29 | 0:18:30
I'm sorry. | 0:18:30 | 0:18:32
How did you see who was catching
the ball when you had your head | 0:18:32 | 0:18:36
in the dirt for 12 years? | 0:18:36 | 0:18:37
No, on tape. | 0:18:37 | 0:18:38
I watched a lot of film. | 0:18:38 | 0:18:40
Throw the ball to each other. | 0:18:40 | 0:18:41
You know what I mean? | 0:18:41 | 0:18:42
Boom. | 0:18:42 | 0:18:43 | |
One-handed. | 0:18:43 | 0:18:44
Anybody can do it. | 0:18:44 | 0:18:46
Anybody. | 0:18:46 | 0:18:47
It must be more
than just the gloves. | 0:18:47 | 0:18:48
Do you think there is a confidence
that happens with people | 0:18:48 | 0:18:51
when they have these on,
in that they will try catches that | 0:18:51 | 0:18:54
maybe they wouldn't try? | 0:18:54 | 0:18:56
I'm a defensive lineman. | 0:18:56 | 0:18:58
Look how easy I'm
making that look, man. | 0:18:58 | 0:19:00
I think everybody, because they have
these gloves on, they stick them on. | 0:19:00 | 0:19:03
They think they can do
whatever it is they want. | 0:19:03 | 0:19:06
What about the guys
who don't wear gloves? | 0:19:06 | 0:19:08
Those guys are the special guys. | 0:19:08 | 0:19:09
The Jerry Rices. | 0:19:09 | 0:19:10
The real receivers
who do not wear gloves. | 0:19:10 | 0:19:12
Why doesn't everybody
wear gloves now then | 0:19:12 | 0:19:14
if they make such a difference? | 0:19:14 | 0:19:15
I think some receivers
like the natural feel. | 0:19:15 | 0:19:17
They like the feel of the ball
to hit their hand like that. | 0:19:17 | 0:19:21
They don't like to have these gloves
on because they think it might make | 0:19:21 | 0:19:24
them drop the ball. | 0:19:24 | 0:19:25
And also, when it rains,
these get really slick. | 0:19:25 | 0:19:27
When it's raining you definitely
don't want to have these on. | 0:19:27 | 0:19:30
Do you think they are good
for the game in the sense | 0:19:30 | 0:19:33
that we see a lot of
spectacular catches that get | 0:19:33 | 0:19:35
us up off our seats? | 0:19:35 | 0:19:37
I think so. | 0:19:37 | 0:19:40
Especially, I mean, look,
I might have been good | 0:19:40 | 0:19:42
if I have these gloves,
let's be honest. | 0:19:42 | 0:19:45
People want to be entertained. | 0:19:45 | 0:19:47
What I like is you can't talk
and catch at the same time. | 0:19:47 | 0:19:50
If I drop this ball, it's over! | 0:19:50 | 0:19:52
I'm not messing around here. | 0:19:52 | 0:19:53
Theoretically, they should
help anybody catch? | 0:19:53 | 0:19:55
Anybody, man. | 0:19:55 | 0:19:56
Let's see what you've got. | 0:19:56 | 0:19:58
Even Mark Chapman can do it! | 0:19:58 | 0:19:59
Eat your heart out. | 0:19:59 | 0:20:04
Sit down. | 0:20:04 | 0:20:06
You put extra spin on that. | 0:20:06 | 0:20:07
That was naughty. | 0:20:07 | 0:20:16
To the highlights of Thursday's game
between AFC East rivals | 0:20:16 | 0:20:18
the Buffalo Bills and the New York
Jets. | 0:20:18 | 0:20:20 | |
Both teams played beyond what we
would have expected this season. | 0:20:20 | 0:20:23
With the Bills in particular looking
to keep the Patriots honest. | 0:20:23 | 0:20:25
Every time I try it,
you still do it. | 0:20:25 | 0:20:28
Patriots are top of the division. | 0:20:28 | 0:20:29
You guys rehearsed this. | 0:20:29 | 0:20:32
No, we didn't. | 0:20:32 | 0:20:42
COMMENTATOR: So, from the pocket. | 0:20:42 | 0:20:43
Now flushed out. | 0:20:43 | 0:20:45
McCown can take off. | 0:20:45 | 0:20:47
He has got the touch! | 0:20:47 | 0:20:49
38 years old, looking like he's 25. | 0:20:49 | 0:20:54
Jets have already rushed for more
yards in this first quarter | 0:20:54 | 0:20:57
than they did week one at Buffalo. | 0:20:57 | 0:21:01
Time for Taylor. | 0:21:01 | 0:21:03
Touchdown. | 0:21:03 | 0:21:04
Buffalo. | 0:21:04 | 0:21:06
Jones has his first NFL touchdown. | 0:21:06 | 0:21:09
We just mentioned it. | 0:21:20 | 0:21:21
Here we go. | 0:21:21 | 0:21:22
Anderson. | 0:21:22 | 0:21:24
Did he hold on? | 0:21:24 | 0:21:25
Yes, touchdown Jets. | 0:21:25 | 0:21:31
The power, and breaking out of it. | 0:21:35 | 0:21:36
What a run by Powell. | 0:21:36 | 0:21:38
They had him twice. | 0:21:38 | 0:21:44
My goodness, the effort
of the night by Powell. | 0:21:44 | 0:21:47
51-yard run by Powell. | 0:21:47 | 0:21:52
Leans across. | 0:21:57 | 0:21:58
And it is a touchdown. | 0:21:58 | 0:22:00
That's game-changing right there. | 0:22:00 | 0:22:07
Taylor. | 0:22:07 | 0:22:08
Falls out of his hands
and it's scooped up by | 0:22:08 | 0:22:11
Davis, down to the five. | 0:22:11 | 0:22:17
What a big-time play coming
from behind by Jenkins | 0:22:17 | 0:22:20
to create the fumble. | 0:22:20 | 0:22:22
They had three giveaways
on the season coming in, | 0:22:22 | 0:22:24
tonight they've given it
away three times. | 0:22:24 | 0:22:27
Able to stand up and take it home. | 0:22:27 | 0:22:30
To the end zone. | 0:22:37 | 0:22:44
For the touchdown. | 0:22:44 | 0:22:45
Deonte Thompson. | 0:22:45 | 0:22:49
The kick and right into
the hands and the drop | 0:22:49 | 0:22:51
and recovered by the Bills. | 0:22:51 | 0:22:54
How did he not hold onto that? | 0:22:54 | 0:22:56
Watch this. | 0:22:56 | 0:22:57
He's like, don't hit me! | 0:22:57 | 0:23:00
Drops it. | 0:23:00 | 0:23:02
Thomas makes the recovery. | 0:23:02 | 0:23:05
He might motion down this
receiver right here. | 0:23:05 | 0:23:11
And he is able to pick
up the 1st down. | 0:23:12 | 0:23:14
Take us to the two-minute warning. | 0:23:14 | 0:23:16
Bills can't stop it again. | 0:23:16 | 0:23:19
It should all but finish it off. | 0:23:19 | 0:23:21
Everybody was clicking on all sides
and playing at a high level. | 0:23:21 | 0:23:24
It was a great win. | 0:23:24 | 0:23:34
The most important
because it's the next one, | 0:23:34 | 0:23:36
but when you are coming off
a three-game skid, especially | 0:23:36 | 0:23:39
the manner in which those games
were lost, to close this one out, | 0:23:39 | 0:23:42
albeit a little shaky,
but to close it out is a great | 0:23:42 | 0:23:44
feeling and a big one for us. | 0:23:44 | 0:23:46
So a good win for the Jets
and here are the rest | 0:23:46 | 0:23:49
of the week nine fixtures. | 0:23:49 | 0:23:52
Several to pick out. | 0:23:52 | 0:23:53
First of all, let's look
at Atlanta at Carolina, | 0:23:58 | 0:24:00
which given the argument you had
earlier in the show, | 0:24:00 | 0:24:02
it could continue. | 0:24:02 | 0:24:03
A big game for both teams. | 0:24:06 | 0:24:08
Huge game, divisional match up. | 0:24:08 | 0:24:09
Both teams have to win. | 0:24:09 | 0:24:16
Carolina, I love that
home-field advantage. | 0:24:16 | 0:24:18
I think they're going
to make this happen. | 0:24:18 | 0:24:20
So you're going Carolina? | 0:24:20 | 0:24:20
Got to. | 0:24:20 | 0:24:22
And I'm guessing you won't. | 0:24:22 | 0:24:23
You know what this is, Mark? | 0:24:23 | 0:24:25
The dirty bird. | 0:24:25 | 0:24:26
The dance. | 0:24:26 | 0:24:27
You know that? | 0:24:27 | 0:24:28
Yes, because you told me it before. | 0:24:28 | 0:24:30
Just wondering. | 0:24:30 | 0:24:31
Do it again. | 0:24:31 | 0:24:33
It's the dirty bird. | 0:24:33 | 0:24:35
Just like that. | 0:24:35 | 0:24:36
Old-school dance. | 0:24:36 | 0:24:37
There it is! | 0:24:37 | 0:24:39
Do not try to out-dance me! | 0:24:39 | 0:24:44
New Orleans, Tampa Bay next. | 0:24:44 | 0:24:47
Both teams have been a surprise
for different reasons. | 0:24:47 | 0:24:54
Nobody expected the Bucs to be
as bad as they are and nobody | 0:24:54 | 0:24:58
expected the Saints to be
five and two. | 0:24:58 | 0:25:00
You know Drew Brees
is going to light it up. | 0:25:00 | 0:25:02
Their defense has been a problem. | 0:25:02 | 0:25:03
That is where they
have figured it out. | 0:25:03 | 0:25:05
They are playing well on defense. | 0:25:05 | 0:25:10
They figure things out at the back
and they are communicating better. | 0:25:10 | 0:25:13
Their defense is playing well. | 0:25:13 | 0:25:14
This is a trap game
for New Orleans Saints. | 0:25:14 | 0:25:17
Tampa Bay is a desperate
football team. | 0:25:17 | 0:25:18
The wounded lion. | 0:25:18 | 0:25:19
A team that has to win this game. | 0:25:19 | 0:25:21
I think Tampa Bay Buccaneers
are going to win this game. | 0:25:21 | 0:25:24
Because it's a must
win for the Bucs. | 0:25:24 | 0:25:26
The Saints have leeway. | 0:25:26 | 0:25:27
Exactly. | 0:25:27 | 0:25:28
The Buccaneers have
to win this game. | 0:25:28 | 0:25:30
This is a team with
tremendous pride. | 0:25:30 | 0:25:31
I think they will come out
on top of this game. | 0:25:31 | 0:25:34
Another divisional game to look
at in the north and bearing in mind | 0:25:34 | 0:25:37
when we did the predictions,
you had Minnesota flying in this | 0:25:37 | 0:25:40
division and these two teams gone. | 0:25:40 | 0:25:41
Both have not... | 0:25:41 | 0:25:43
Green Bay are four and three,
so it seems daft to say they have | 0:25:43 | 0:25:46
not quite fired but the Rodgers
thing has | 0:25:46 | 0:25:48
taken the wind out of their sails. | 0:25:48 | 0:25:50
I mean that was their catalyst. | 0:25:50 | 0:25:51
He is their guy. | 0:25:51 | 0:25:52
Losing him changed everything. | 0:25:52 | 0:25:53
I think there are
problems at Detroit. | 0:25:53 | 0:25:55
Why?
Where? | 0:25:55 | 0:25:56
I think in the locker room
something is going on. | 0:25:56 | 0:25:58
Jim Caldwell made a comment
about the discipline. | 0:25:58 | 0:26:01
You don't see coaches
saying things like that, | 0:26:01 | 0:26:03
like they're losing control
of their players. | 0:26:03 | 0:26:05
Something is happening over there. | 0:26:05 | 0:26:06
But you could not put
your finger on what? | 0:26:06 | 0:26:14
Something is not right. | 0:26:14 | 0:26:15
I think the quarterback
is very inconsistent. | 0:26:15 | 0:26:16
Matthew Stafford, who has
all the talent in the world. | 0:26:16 | 0:26:19
And all the money in the world. | 0:26:19 | 0:26:20
Just has not been able to put it
together this season | 0:26:20 | 0:26:23
like he was doing towards the end
of last year. | 0:26:23 | 0:26:25
The Green Bay Packers
obviously struggling | 0:26:25 | 0:26:27
without their quarterback Aaron
Rodgers. | 0:26:27 | 0:26:28
I think this is a game
the Detroit Lions must win | 0:26:28 | 0:26:31
and they will win this game. | 0:26:31 | 0:26:32
What Stafford was doing last season
was he was rescuing them | 0:26:32 | 0:26:37
in the fourth quarter comebacks
and you can only do that so long | 0:26:37 | 0:26:41
before time catches up. | 0:26:41 | 0:26:43
Unless you're Aaron Rodgers. | 0:26:43 | 0:26:44
Yes. | 0:26:44 | 0:26:47 | |
What he is not doing well
is he is not doing well | 0:26:47 | 0:26:50
inside the 20, inside the red zone. | 0:26:50 | 0:26:51
It seems between the 20-yard
lines he is doing well. | 0:26:51 | 0:26:54
He's not scoring points. | 0:26:54 | 0:26:55
You have gone for? | 0:26:55 | 0:26:56
I've gone Detroit, this game. | 0:26:56 | 0:26:57
And you have gone? | 0:26:57 | 0:26:58
Have to go Green Bay. | 0:26:58 | 0:26:59
Because he went Detroit? | 0:26:59 | 0:27:00
Right, let's end with the highs
and lows from this week. | 0:27:00 | 0:27:03
Look out at the gloves
in all of this. | 0:27:03 | 0:27:05
Did not necessarily
help Travis Benjamin, | 0:27:05 | 0:27:07
who dropped that punt. | 0:27:07 | 0:27:08
And then went backwards. | 0:27:08 | 0:27:09
And got tackled by the
Patriots for a safety. | 0:27:09 | 0:27:13
Robbie Anderson had
that spectacular catch. | 0:27:13 | 0:27:17
Played well this year. | 0:27:17 | 0:27:18
He can run. | 0:27:18 | 0:27:19
And catch. | 0:27:19 | 0:27:20
Look at that for a hit. | 0:27:20 | 0:27:23
That's what we call coming downhill. | 0:27:23 | 0:27:28
He did not even stop
stride at all, man. | 0:27:28 | 0:27:30
Diggs on Antonio. | 0:27:30 | 0:27:32
Will Fuller beating
Richard Sherman for this | 0:27:32 | 0:27:37
touchdown in the Texans-Seahawks | 0:27:37 | 0:27:42
game. | 0:27:42 | 0:27:42 | |
He got two interceptions. | 0:27:42 | 0:27:44
He got two picks. | 0:27:44 | 0:27:53
He got beat a lot. | 0:27:53 | 0:27:55
Whilst they argue we will show
the highs and lows. | 0:27:55 | 0:27:57
George Kittle's one-handed snagged
against the Eagles and Sanu's diving | 0:27:57 | 0:27:59
game-winning catch for the Falcons
against the Jets. | 0:27:59 | 0:28:01
A pumped-up celebration, as well. | 0:28:01 | 0:28:05
He used to wear gold cleats. | 0:28:05 | 0:28:06
I did. | 0:28:06 | 0:28:07 | |
He looked fresh, I give you that. | 0:28:07 | 0:28:09
And here are some other
good celebrations. | 0:28:09 | 0:28:11
I like that. | 0:28:11 | 0:28:12
That was at Twickenham. | 0:28:12 | 0:28:13
The bench-press celebration. | 0:28:13 | 0:28:14
They work on them, don't they? | 0:28:14 | 0:28:18
Those guys are making it fun. | 0:28:18 | 0:28:20
And they are winning. | 0:28:20 | 0:28:26
NFL This Week, we have more in-depth
analysis of all the games - | 0:28:26 | 0:28:29
Tuesday 11:15pm on BBC Two. | 0:28:29 | 0:28:32
From myself, Jason and
Osi, it's good night. | 0:28:32 | 0:28:42
Before you know it, the halfway
point of the regular season. | 0:28:43 | 0:28:47
Eight games to go. | 0:28:47 | 0:28:48
Eight stepping stones. | 0:28:48 | 0:28:49
Eight milestones. | 0:28:49 | 0:28:54
12 playoff places to fill. | 0:28:54 | 0:28:56
The long haul to the New Year. | 0:28:56 | 0:28:59
It could be over in a flash. | 0:28:59 | 0:29:01 |
