Hello, welcome to highlights of the 2004 team ITU World Triathlon, | :00:41. | :00:48.
which, for the first time ever, comes from Chicago. Some of the best | :00:49. | :00:55.
athletes have descended here to tackle a course in and around the | :00:56. | :00:59.
shores of Lake Michigan. Let's have a read of what has happened in the | :01:00. | :01:03.
previous events in the season so far. The series began in all month, | :01:04. | :01:09.
were the world champion 20 IIMACRO2 top honours, with Jodie Stimpson | :01:10. | :01:23.
first in the women's. -- Javier Gomez Noya. In Japan, Javier Gomez | :01:24. | :01:33.
Noya made it a hat-trick of wins for the men, while in the women's Jordan | :01:34. | :01:46.
Saint got her first victory. It was a straightforward, as easy as it | :01:47. | :01:53.
comes for someone of the ability of Jorgensen. She is being warmly | :01:54. | :02:03.
welcomes to make it two wins in a row. She wins again in Hyde Park in | :02:04. | :02:13.
London. She takes first position. The men's race came down to a | :02:14. | :02:24.
thrilling finale. They have nothing more to offer! Javier Gomez Noya | :02:25. | :02:34.
takes the wind! Richard Mawrey is second. Joao Pereira is third for | :02:35. | :02:40.
Portugal. Alistair Brownlee give it everything, but finishes fourth. | :02:41. | :02:48.
Javier Gomez Noya leads the standings ahead of Jonathan | :02:49. | :02:56.
Brownlee. Alistair Brownlee is not attending this event, meaning he can | :02:57. | :02:57.
no longer reclaim his world title. The field will head off into Lake | :02:58. | :03:19.
Michigan for the first part of the race. There will be eight laps to | :03:20. | :03:25.
complete the 14 kilometres cycle section on a flat course in and | :03:26. | :03:29.
around the waterfront area. Plenty of hairpin bends. The run course | :03:30. | :03:37.
stays close to the lake as the athletes complete four laps of 2.5: | :03:38. | :03:42.
The tours on wide American highways, devoid of traffic today. | :03:43. | :03:47.
The centrepiece of the race will be the magnificent Buckingham Fountain. | :03:48. | :03:55.
Here is the start list: 51 people ready to dive into Lake | :03:56. | :04:28.
Michigan. It is underway! Into the cool, choppy waters of the great | :04:29. | :04:33.
Lake. Away they go. The water temperature has been an issue | :04:34. | :04:38.
throughout the build-up in the days leading up to this first-ever World | :04:39. | :04:42.
Triathlon series event to be held in Chicago. It will be a good | :04:43. | :04:47.
opportunity for the strong swimmers to show what they are made of. Munro | :04:48. | :04:58.
harbour is protected from the worst of the elements. It is very chilly. | :04:59. | :05:03.
We haven't seen any difficult swim so far this season. This could be a | :05:04. | :05:07.
real eye-opener, to see the strongest swimmers. We can see there | :05:08. | :05:13.
are big gaps beginning to come through as they make their way. The | :05:14. | :05:24.
aquarium in the background there. Lots of great sites of the city | :05:25. | :05:30.
nearby. Very much the hub of the city, dine on the waterfront. One or | :05:31. | :05:35.
two of the stronger swimmers beginning to make their move. We | :05:36. | :05:44.
should see Pamela Oliveira, she is one of the stronger swimmers. The | :05:45. | :05:46.
Japanese swimmers tend to be strong. Gwen Jorgensen will be | :05:47. | :05:54.
hoping not to get too far behind on this first stage. The American | :05:55. | :05:58.
always struggles in the water. It is her Achilles heel. It has been | :05:59. | :06:03.
improving. She will be hoping not to get too far adrift. Here is the | :06:04. | :06:12.
start again. Good crowds on the waterfront to watch them start. | :06:13. | :06:22.
There is a leader at the moment, forcing the pace. Clean water ahead. | :06:23. | :06:40.
The sun is out. Lap one of the swim. They have this semicircle to make | :06:41. | :06:45.
around the giant inflatable. This is where trouble can start. It is all | :06:46. | :06:51.
right for the first five or six who are OK in terms of the space they | :06:52. | :06:56.
have around them. Behind, already the trouble is starting. Swimmers | :06:57. | :07:04.
get ducked and pushed. It can be very tricky indeed. It is always | :07:05. | :07:12.
handy to be a strong swimmer to get away from the danger. A | :07:13. | :07:19.
demonstration of how difficult the swim is. It is not a huge wave going | :07:20. | :07:25.
up and down, but every time the swimmers need to look up, they will | :07:26. | :07:35.
need to try and get much more frequent sightings than normal. | :07:36. | :07:41.
Helen Jenkins is really coming back into form after a miserable 15 | :07:42. | :07:47.
months out. What a sight that is, with the Chicago skyline and all the | :07:48. | :07:52.
skyscrapers unfamiliar buildings forming the backdrop to this world | :07:53. | :08:03.
triathlon. They have one kilometre of the swim to go. They will come | :08:04. | :08:12.
back for the second lap. It is the full Olympic distance here, unlike | :08:13. | :08:19.
London where it was half distance, a sprint distance. A 40 kilometre bike | :08:20. | :08:28.
lap, then 10,000 metres of running. Isn't that a fabulous site in the | :08:29. | :08:35.
sunshine in Chicago? I am looking forward to seeing how Gwen Jorgensen | :08:36. | :08:41.
does here. It is crucial for her. So many times we have almost seemed the | :08:42. | :08:44.
naivete of her coming through. Her swimming has improved dramatically | :08:45. | :08:49.
this season. The other swimmers in these difficult conditions will be | :08:50. | :08:56.
looking to push it. They will want to try and get away, to open a gap | :08:57. | :09:02.
and really try to take everything away from Gwen Jorgensen's amazing | :09:03. | :09:11.
running strength. Emma Moffatt is not far away. She is a strong | :09:12. | :09:25.
swimmer. Helen Jenkins, wearing number two, is on the comeback after | :09:26. | :09:31.
a long lay-off with injury. She is showing encouraging signs in the | :09:32. | :09:36.
build-up to the Commonwealth Games. Helen Jenkins was saying in the | :09:37. | :09:39.
press conference that it is crystal that they worked hard to try to get | :09:40. | :09:44.
away from Gwen Jorgensen. Everybody is aware of how good she is running. | :09:45. | :09:53.
With the difficult conditions, this is an opportunity for the good | :09:54. | :09:58.
swimmers to make a break. Helen Jenkins was third in the opening | :09:59. | :10:05.
race, second in Cape Town. She is starting to reach form at the right | :10:06. | :10:12.
time in terms of the Commonwealth Games. Just saw macro coming | :10:13. | :10:18.
through. Gwen Jorgensen is doing all right, | :10:19. | :10:39.
just 13 seconds off the lead. The Americans are trying to make their | :10:40. | :10:43.
mark on this, the only event to be held on American soil and in | :10:44. | :10:51.
American waters. It has been held at San Diego for the last couple of | :10:52. | :10:59.
years. Back in the water again. That is an excellent first lap I Gwen | :11:00. | :11:05.
Jorgensen. To be just a few seconds down in these difficult conditions. | :11:06. | :11:10.
An indication of how much work she would have done on her swimming. She | :11:11. | :11:26.
is improving every race. The leader is starting to stretch them here. | :11:27. | :11:35.
You can see how far of the 51 starters are spread. I'm sure one or | :11:36. | :11:40.
two will be starting to feel the effects of the speed of the swim. | :11:41. | :11:50.
This will be quite difficult for the leader. I don't that you will be | :11:51. | :11:55.
looking to go for unknown break on the bike. She has to make a | :11:56. | :12:01.
decision, will she keep pushing through and then have the bravery to | :12:02. | :12:06.
go ahead on the bike, or why not back off a little? I wonder how | :12:07. | :12:17.
aware she is of the she has opened up? Lots of big names in that | :12:18. | :12:25.
following pack. Gwen Jorgensen was 13 seconds adrift at the end of the | :12:26. | :12:35.
first lap. They are into the last 130 metres of the swim. What a sight | :12:36. | :12:41.
that is! It is the most spectacular backdrop we have seen for a long | :12:42. | :12:49.
while. Coming into the transition. It is a very long transition area. | :12:50. | :12:57.
This might work to the advantage of Gwen Jorgensen. She has the | :12:58. | :13:04.
opportunity now to claw back a couple of seconds. The last | :13:05. | :13:12.
right-hand turn. You can see the exit point marked. Then, the job | :13:13. | :13:25.
towards the transition, then the whole episode of getting prepared | :13:26. | :13:38.
for the bike. We rarely see a gap that big in either the men or | :13:39. | :13:52.
women's events. Helen Jenkins is just going through our picture. She | :13:53. | :14:00.
is in fifth position. Then 16 macro, Pamela Oliveira, Yuko | :14:01. | :14:10.
Takahashi. There is Gwen Jorgensen. She has lost another 15 seconds so. | :14:11. | :14:33.
She will be reeled in. They crossed the road that separates the lake | :14:34. | :14:44.
from the transition area. They are pretty well spread, it is a good | :14:45. | :14:49.
wide transition area. Everything is bigger in the USA! We are unlikely | :14:50. | :15:04.
to have a group of 15 or 20 forming the pellet on at the front. -- | :15:05. | :15:27.
peleton. It is a very flat course. I just wonder if Nicky Samuels is | :15:28. | :15:34.
thinking about trying to join the leader. We could have a 2-person | :15:35. | :15:40.
time trial going through. Unlike the, because there are some great | :15:41. | :15:48.
cyclists in the following pack. There goes Emma Moffatt catching up | :15:49. | :16:06.
with Nicky Samuels. Jorgensen I think will be in the next group, | :16:07. | :16:11.
unless she has had an incredibly fast start. I cannot see her in | :16:12. | :16:18.
there. Carolina Routier, the leader out of the water, she has been | :16:19. | :16:20.
caught by Emma Moffatt, the Australian. Yuka Sato of Japan. | :16:21. | :16:48.
Takahashi, another one of the Japanese contingent. Kirsten | :16:49. | :16:52.
Sweetland from Canada making a huge effort at the front of the second | :16:53. | :17:00.
fact to break down. Seemed to have the other athletes struggling to | :17:01. | :17:03.
stay with her. Looking out for Jorgensen, I cannot see her in the | :17:04. | :17:08.
first park and I have not seen her in the second pack. She had a very | :17:09. | :17:15.
good swim under difficult conditions. Still on the first lap | :17:16. | :17:26.
on the bike. Coming past Buckingham Fountain, known as the front door of | :17:27. | :17:33.
Chicago. We will look at the runners and riders as they complete the | :17:34. | :17:40.
first lap of eight. Chance to see exactly how many involved. | :17:41. | :18:05.
We have 17 in the front group and then a gap of only seven seconds to | :18:06. | :18:12.
another group of half a dozen or so who will be hoping to get amongst | :18:13. | :18:20.
the leaders. Flora Duffy leading the chase group. A very strong cyclist, | :18:21. | :18:29.
Flora Duffy. She has been doing well on mountain bikes. Technically she | :18:30. | :18:33.
is very good and is very good on strength. But it is a big call to | :18:34. | :18:38.
catch up with this FirstGroup. They have got away from Jorgensen. | :18:39. | :18:48.
Looking at the time, and minute and a half down on what we have been | :18:49. | :18:57.
used to on the lead swimmers coming through. The Italian struggling to | :18:58. | :18:58.
stay in contact as they come round the sharp turns. Pamela Oliveira | :18:59. | :19:10.
Eire out the back. Helen Jenkins out of the seat and pushing hard. Gwen | :19:11. | :19:18.
Jorgensen is closing the gap. We know she has the speed when it comes | :19:19. | :19:25.
to the running, but she needs to be within a minute and a half or so to | :19:26. | :19:29.
have a serious opportunity of getting towards the front and bid to | :19:30. | :19:37.
win her third triathlon series in a row. She won the sprint race in Hyde | :19:38. | :19:41.
Park in London and will hope to be winning here on home soil. The | :19:42. | :19:52.
leaders are 32 seconds ahead of the chasers. Helen Jenkins at the front | :19:53. | :19:55.
of the first pack. She knows what she has to do. With Jorgensen, you | :19:56. | :20:03.
would then she would be proactive. We are on the fourth lap of the | :20:04. | :20:08.
bike. Jorgensen is happy to let other people do the work on the | :20:09. | :20:14.
bike, hoping to take her through. She needs to be proactive to become | :20:15. | :20:20.
the all-round triathlete. Just beginning to rain. It is going to be | :20:21. | :20:27.
difficult because it was sunny when they started. Cyclists will be | :20:28. | :20:33.
wearing sunglasses which will not be very comfortable if it does rain | :20:34. | :20:42.
heavily. 12 umbrellas around the course. If it turns into a | :20:43. | :20:47.
downpour, and there are some dark clouds looming across the lake, it | :20:48. | :20:52.
could get interesting. Halfway through the two wheel section. The | :20:53. | :20:58.
group coming through led by Kirsten Sweetland of Canada. Charlotte | :20:59. | :21:06.
McShane and Nicky Samuels, Kaitlin Donner. We have a group of 12 | :21:07. | :21:16.
leading them through. Half way down, four laps to go. The big group | :21:17. | :21:26.
coming down to 12 early on in the bike. An indication how fast Kirsten | :21:27. | :21:31.
Sweetland and Helen Jenkins are pushing this case. Flora Duffy | :21:32. | :21:40.
leading the second pack 40 seconds down. There is when Jorgensen and | :21:41. | :21:58.
she is safely in the middle of the second pack. Jorgensen easy to spot | :21:59. | :22:01.
with the golden number one on her upper arm, @ she leads the world | :22:02. | :22:04.
triathlon standings. Halfway through, this is number five of | :22:05. | :22:09.
eight races. At the Chicago they will head to hamburg and then and | :22:10. | :22:18.
the grand final takes place in Edmonton in Canada. Lap five on two | :22:19. | :22:24.
wheels on this flat course in downtown Chicago. They are going | :22:25. | :22:28.
inland away from the lake towards South Mitch Egan Avenue towards | :22:29. | :22:30.
grand part, taking in parts of South Columbus drive as well. PAC number | :22:31. | :22:37.
one and pack number two cross over, they will be looking at what the | :22:38. | :22:44.
time gap is. Gone from 30 .34 to 41 seconds. Judging by previous results | :22:45. | :22:54.
from Jorgensen's tremendous running they will need as much as a minute | :22:55. | :22:59.
and a half if they have a chance of staying ahead of her. Kaitlin Donner | :23:00. | :23:07.
of the USA. There is Emma Moffatt. She will be part of the Australian | :23:08. | :23:14.
contingent heading to Scotland for the Commonwealth Games. Wasn't in | :23:15. | :23:23.
the programme in Delhi, but was included in 2006 in Melbourne. | :23:24. | :23:27.
Another one of those hairpin turns which characterised this course in | :23:28. | :23:38.
Chicago. Charlotte on in, the Italian keeping clear of trouble. | :23:39. | :23:52.
That is the gap to the second group, 46 seconds. It is well within | :23:53. | :23:59.
Jorgensen's abilities to run that down and push for a place on the | :24:00. | :24:05.
podium and potentially victory. Just looking at the two Italian athletes. | :24:06. | :24:10.
I thought they were struggling to hold on but the way circum- have | :24:11. | :24:14.
dipped hated this race, they are seeing this as an advantage they are | :24:15. | :24:19.
being dragged along and said their legs and make a bit of a | :24:20. | :24:26.
breakthrough. Helen Jenkins getting her head down. Nice low, aerodynamic | :24:27. | :24:36.
shape from the British triathlete who will be representing Wales at | :24:37. | :24:39.
the forthcoming Commonwealth games in Glasgow. She was actually born in | :24:40. | :24:46.
Scotland, her father was in the RAF based in Scotland but she has lived | :24:47. | :24:52.
all her life in Wales. Emma Moffatt is pushing indeed. The contrast with | :24:53. | :25:05.
Emma Moffatt and Helen Jenkins. Jorgensen in there as well. We have | :25:06. | :25:08.
not seen Gwen Jorgensen go to the front of this chasing pack. Just 17 | :25:09. | :25:18.
kilometres to go. Lap number six, the chasing group and a bit of a | :25:19. | :25:21.
breakaway going on at the front. Looks like the Mexican Claudia Rivas | :25:22. | :25:29.
is having a go. She has when Jorgensen the company. Jorgensen | :25:30. | :25:36.
taking the ride, slipstreaming behind the Mexican. She will attempt | :25:37. | :25:43.
to close down the leaders. Jorgensen within striking distance. Eight laps | :25:44. | :25:56.
in total. Lots of work by Kirsten Sweetland from Canada. There was a | :25:57. | :26:02.
moment when one of the riders went the wrong side of the cones and came | :26:03. | :26:06.
within touching distance of the other group. An indication of how | :26:07. | :26:14.
tight these turns are. They are squeezing half a second on the | :26:15. | :26:23.
chasing pack. It is a six Lane Hwy after all. Bonin still positioned at | :26:24. | :26:39.
the back. Lots of work going on at the front. Emma Moffatt, always at | :26:40. | :26:45.
the front. They seem to be dominating. They have taken the race | :26:46. | :26:54.
ice storm. Determined to get away from Jorgensen. Kirsten Sweetland | :26:55. | :27:05.
coming back into form. She has been strong on the bike section. Looks | :27:06. | :27:09.
like Emma Moffatt is back at the front, forcing the pace. Endless | :27:10. | :27:17.
tight turns. They go around the roundabout eight times as well. Lots | :27:18. | :27:24.
to think about. Although there is no climbing apart from the odd speed | :27:25. | :27:32.
bump, plenty of turns to think about and chances to keep clear of your | :27:33. | :27:44.
opponents in this race. Helen Jenkins is within this group as | :27:45. | :28:01.
well. An hour and four minutes of the race. Getting towards the tail | :28:02. | :28:08.
end of the cycle section as they complete lap six towards the | :28:09. | :28:10.
Buckingham Fountain. They have a water show from the Fountain on the | :28:11. | :28:23.
hour, every hour. Sweetland is first through. Sato is 11th and Bonin is | :28:24. | :28:39.
12. The front 12 separated by just four seconds with two laps to go. | :28:40. | :28:44.
And exit through the transition. They can see the chasing pack coming | :28:45. | :28:51.
through behind them. 48 seconds was the last time we had. Would be | :28:52. | :28:57.
surprising if there was any closing down. Jones of the USA at the back | :28:58. | :29:04.
of the pack wearing the stars and stripes. Back with the leaders now. | :29:05. | :29:10.
Well on their way, the leading group. They are on the penultimate | :29:11. | :29:19.
lap of the course. Seven laps almost done with one to go. Everybody has | :29:20. | :29:29.
stayed clear of trouble. They have opened the South Lake Shore Drive to | :29:30. | :29:33.
traffic again after they have made the cross from the lake to the | :29:34. | :29:39.
transition area. Great position by Helen Jenkins. She moves to the | :29:40. | :29:46.
outside so just making the turn each time a little bit less severe so she | :29:47. | :29:52.
is not slowing down too much. Moving her legs a little bit faster. Some | :29:53. | :29:57.
of the leaders in the first pack, perhaps choosing a tiny bit too big | :29:58. | :30:07.
de Gea, with that determination to stay away from the second pack. | :30:08. | :30:12.
Helen Jenkins playing it cool, controlling, watching what is | :30:13. | :30:16.
happening and doing the work when it is required of her but also being | :30:17. | :30:24.
tactically aware on every turn. This leading pack probably do need more | :30:25. | :30:26.
if they want to stay away from Gwen Jorgensen. Gwen Jorgensen will not | :30:27. | :30:45.
be pushing too hard on the bike. It is her race. She has the running | :30:46. | :30:52.
capability. She can strike from a long way back. They will all be | :30:53. | :30:58.
aware that Gwen Jorgensen is not too far behind. There is the world | :30:59. | :31:05.
number one, as cool as you like. Minimum effort on the bike. Saving | :31:06. | :31:10.
her long legs for the 10,000 metre run. Meanwhile, the leaders are on | :31:11. | :31:20.
their way on the final lap. We have had a bit of everything with the | :31:21. | :31:24.
weather. The rain has eased off. Another pocket of loose sky has | :31:25. | :31:32.
developed overhead. Gwen Jorgensen is almost a throwback to another | :31:33. | :31:48.
great athlete... Gwen Jorgensen, she is becoming more tactically aware as | :31:49. | :31:54.
she learnt are treated. If she stays on the course she is on now, she | :31:55. | :32:02.
will be really quite outstanding. So, the leaders will be starting to | :32:03. | :32:10.
think about the transition. Two or three Japanese in the grip. It will | :32:11. | :32:18.
be interesting to see who tries to break away first. The Velcro straps | :32:19. | :32:32.
are already undone. Remember the accident with Jodie Stimpson, were | :32:33. | :32:38.
she collapsed on top of bike in the transition area? They will all be | :32:39. | :32:55.
aware they need take care. The Chicago yacht club is just on the | :32:56. | :33:00.
top left of the screen. The between the leaders and the chasers it over | :33:01. | :33:03.
a minute. That will not worry Gwen Jorgensen. It makes it more | :33:04. | :33:10.
interesting, doesn't it? Who else in the second pack has the ability to | :33:11. | :33:20.
come through? We have some great runners there, Emma Moffatt, | :33:21. | :33:25.
Charlotte McShane. Charlotte McShane is a previous world champion and she | :33:26. | :33:31.
is a great runner. But has she had to do too much on the bike? They go | :33:32. | :33:36.
past the Buckingham Fountain and start to prepare for the ends of | :33:37. | :33:43.
their last lap. The weather is playing ball, providing a fabulous | :33:44. | :33:50.
setting. This is where the crowds gathered. Emma Moffatt and Helen | :33:51. | :34:00.
Jenkins arrive on the blue carpet, ready to park their bikes, put on | :34:01. | :34:10.
their running shoes and head out to do the 10,000 metre run. Helen | :34:11. | :34:14.
Jenkins is away in about fifth position. The officials are there to | :34:15. | :34:18.
check that everything is done correctly. Not putting your helmets | :34:19. | :34:29.
in the right place can give you a 15 second stop penalty. The chasing | :34:30. | :34:36.
pack is by coming towards the Buckingham Fountain. They are led in | :34:37. | :34:52.
by Sara Vilic from Austria. Gwen Jorgensen will not be far off. At | :34:53. | :34:57.
that this might line, next theory is Sara Vilic and Lisa Perterer. Gwen | :34:58. | :35:18.
Jorgensen is in 18th position. Now she is in her comfort zone. A 10,000 | :35:19. | :35:25.
metre run for the American. Can she win this race in Chicago? That was a | :35:26. | :35:32.
top-class transition from Gwen Jorgensen. She looks very calm and | :35:33. | :35:33.
collect today. -- Gwen Jorgensen has a very long | :35:34. | :35:50.
stride. I think she'll be feeling very confident. | :35:51. | :36:00.
She will be closing down very quickly indeed. Gwen Jorgensen looks | :36:01. | :36:11.
like a proper runner, doesn't she? The others are struggling already. | :36:12. | :36:14.
Gwen Jorgensen is just hitting her stride. With every step she takes | :36:15. | :36:22.
she widens the gap. Upright, relaxed, powerful. She is eating up | :36:23. | :36:28.
the ground. Out towards the front of the race, Helen Jenkins upgrade | :36:29. | :36:32.
written is the leader. The difference between those two is 47 | :36:33. | :36:41.
seconds. Helen Jenkins is getting fitter and faster all the time. | :36:42. | :36:45.
Tempt to is making her move right from the start. Helen Jenkins has to | :36:46. | :36:55.
really go for it. She is working hard, she wants to stay awake. She | :36:56. | :37:06.
looks strong and powerful. They will be looking to get their times | :37:07. | :37:10.
checked at the end of this first lap. Helen Jenkins and Juri Ide are | :37:11. | :37:20.
in first and second positions. Kirsten Sweetland is in third. You | :37:21. | :37:33.
would imagine if Gwen Jorgensen stays healthy and fast, they will | :37:34. | :37:43.
soon be caught up. We will get the cheque shortly to see how much Gwen | :37:44. | :37:48.
Jorgensen has taken out of their lead. Helen Jenkins is through | :37:49. | :37:53.
first, Juri Ide in second, Kirsten Sweetland in third. Annamaria | :37:54. | :38:07.
Mazzetti is running on her own. Gwen Jorgensen will not be far away. | :38:08. | :38:16.
Helen Jenkins and Juri Ide have really gone for it. We should be | :38:17. | :38:25.
getting an indication of what sort of time difference there is now | :38:26. | :38:29.
before we see Gwen Jorgensen coming in. Gwen Jorgensen is within 50 | :38:30. | :38:36.
seconds of the lead with three laps to go. It is all about timing now | :38:37. | :38:41.
for Gwen Jorgensen. That is fascinating. If the closing down | :38:42. | :38:48.
stays the same in each lap, they will be coming together retain much | :38:49. | :38:54.
on the finishing line. It will be a big determined effort from Gwen | :38:55. | :38:59.
Jorgensen and Helen Jenkins, one to stay away, one to close down. Gwen | :39:00. | :39:05.
Jorgensen is ticking off the Americans. She has just overtaken 78 | :39:06. | :39:17.
a group. Charlotte McShane will be next to fall prey to Gwen Jorgensen. | :39:18. | :39:22.
One by one, Gwen Jorgensen takes them out. For Charlotte McShane to | :39:23. | :39:31.
have lost a minute to Gwen Jorgensen in a lap, that is amazing. Gwen | :39:32. | :39:38.
Jorgensen will be counting down, drawing in the lead pack one by one. | :39:39. | :39:50.
Gwen Jorgensen, she is catching up to Nicky Samuels. A little uphill | :39:51. | :40:01.
stretch. Gwen Jorgensen is just cruising. She takes out Nicky | :40:02. | :40:21.
Samuels. Gwen Jorgensen is looking so comfortable. Back with the | :40:22. | :40:31.
leaders. Helen Jenkins is still in front, with Juri Ide just behind | :40:32. | :40:37.
her. Kirsten Sweetland could not keep up with this speed. We had a | :40:38. | :40:44.
group of three, but Helen Jenkins and Juri Ide now formed the leading | :40:45. | :40:53.
pair. Gwen Jorgensen is right beside Emma Moffatt. Emma Moffatt is trying | :40:54. | :40:59.
to react. Gwen Jorgensen is more than a match for the acceleration | :41:00. | :41:05.
from 63 Mac. At the end of lap two, it is Helen Jenkins, Juri Ide. | :41:06. | :41:12.
Contrasting styles between the two of them. Contrasting physical | :41:13. | :41:20.
ships, as well. Helen Jenkins is trying to move away. Work will be | :41:21. | :41:23.
reaching them that tempt to is approaching fast. Helen Jenkins | :41:24. | :41:31.
might be able to see Gwen Jorgensen. Great indications for the | :41:32. | :41:37.
Commonwealth Games 459 macro. She is really coming into her major | :41:38. | :41:45.
championship form. Gwen Jorgensen is down to 33 seconds. That is so | :41:46. | :41:53.
significant. She will be able to see them with just five kilometres to | :41:54. | :41:58.
go. She will gradually close the gap. She will not be sprinting, she | :41:59. | :42:04.
would need to. Gwen Jorgensen is closing down very quickly, very | :42:05. | :42:10.
carefully. At the end of lap one she was 50 seconds behind, by the end of | :42:11. | :42:14.
lap to she was only 33 seconds behind. Helen Jenkins and Juri Ide | :42:15. | :42:24.
grab some water. You can see Kirsten Sweetland. | :42:25. | :42:35.
Gwen Jorgensen is in the background. We can just spot her tall, lean | :42:36. | :42:44.
shape as she attempts to close down this gap over the next five | :42:45. | :42:50.
kilometres. Again, good indications of how strong the running of Helen | :42:51. | :42:57.
Jenkins is. She did so much work, along with Juri Ide, at the front of | :42:58. | :43:06.
pack one on the bicycles. No signs at all that Helen is fading. With | :43:07. | :43:13.
the injuries she had, to be coming back, she will be feeling very | :43:14. | :43:17.
happy, knowing that she will get more race fit. The gap is down to 28 | :43:18. | :43:28.
seconds between her and Gwen Jorgensen now. Gwen Jorgensen is up | :43:29. | :43:41.
behind Kirsten Sweetland. Those water bottles are so small! Gwen | :43:42. | :43:48.
Jorgensen moves away from Kirsten Sweetland. She is back into her | :43:49. | :43:57.
groove and kicking clear. The leading pair are deep into the third | :43:58. | :44:04.
lap now. A bit of extra speed here from Helen Jenkins and Juri Ide is | :44:05. | :44:08.
trying to match. Temp to is stalking them. A gutsy performance by Juri | :44:09. | :44:15.
Ide, he is refusing to let Helen Jenkins away. You can see Gwen | :44:16. | :44:25.
Jorgensen closing. We will see what the time gap is only come to the end | :44:26. | :44:31.
of this third lap. Gwen Jorgensen is in command at the moment. Helen | :44:32. | :44:36.
Jenkins is running like a scared bunny at the moment! Juri Ide is | :44:37. | :44:42.
still staying there. What a great performance from her. She is a | :44:43. | :44:44.
tenacious. -- tenacious character. When they come round this hairpin, | :44:45. | :45:04.
they will be able to go eyeball to eyeball with Gwen Jorgensen. -- | :45:05. | :45:21.
eyeball to eyeball. The gap will be comfortably under 30 seconds as they | :45:22. | :45:25.
start the third lap. I think it will be between 15 and 20 seconds. Helen | :45:26. | :45:35.
Jenkins is running very strongly. She looks good and has regained her | :45:36. | :45:40.
running form. Juri Ide, what it remembers performance by her. | :45:41. | :45:58.
Jenkins. Ide has gone for two. How is this going to turn out? Jorgensen | :45:59. | :46:04.
heads left and picks up some more bottles. Water bottles all over the | :46:05. | :46:15.
road. Littering area ends, it says on the left because there is litter | :46:16. | :46:24.
on this road in Chicago. Out with the leaders, Helen Jenkins and Ide. | :46:25. | :46:34.
Gwen Jorgensen is getting quicker. She is closing the gap. It is now | :46:35. | :46:39.
within striking distance for Jorgensen. Jenkins will be desperate | :46:40. | :46:48.
to hold on to first position. On a little slingshot turn. Jenkins tries | :46:49. | :46:54.
to kick away from Ide but she has bigger things to worry about in the | :46:55. | :47:01.
shape of Jorgensen. And officially I make the time gap 18 seconds. Almost | :47:02. | :47:10.
on schedule. Doesn't she look powerful? Length of the stride, | :47:11. | :47:17.
looks very relaxed. No extra movement. With these two leaders as | :47:18. | :47:25.
well, Ide and Helen Jenkins refusing to give in. It is actually 16 | :47:26. | :47:32.
seconds. It will come down to the last kilometre. It is fascinating to | :47:33. | :47:40.
watch as Jorgensen gets closer. She can measure her run against what her | :47:41. | :47:47.
competitors are doing. She has her eyes firmly fixed on Ide and Jenkins | :47:48. | :47:53.
in front. She can see the effort going into their final stages. She | :47:54. | :47:57.
knows what she has got left in the tank. I don't think Jorgensen has | :47:58. | :48:03.
stooped push as hard as she possibly can. I think she can run within | :48:04. | :48:09.
herself and still win here in Chicago. She seems to be timing it | :48:10. | :48:16.
perfectly and that is the thing, isn't it? Watching her coming | :48:17. | :48:21.
through, coming past lap runners now. Helen Jenkins and Ide as well, | :48:22. | :48:33.
Jorgensen closing as we go into this final lap. At the end of the first | :48:34. | :48:41.
lap, Jorgensen's lead was 50 seconds. Now it will be somewhere | :48:42. | :48:51.
between 14, 15 seconds as Jenkins and Ide come past more lapped | :48:52. | :48:58.
runners as they hit transition. This is where the clock will stop and we | :48:59. | :49:02.
will get an official time progress on Gwen Jorgensen. It is only five | :49:03. | :49:08.
seconds! This race is hers for the winning. Jorgensen is going like the | :49:09. | :49:15.
wind through the Windy city. Extraordinary running. I don't think | :49:16. | :49:23.
Ide and Jenkins have slowed down but what an increase in pace from | :49:24. | :49:30.
Jorgensen. She has come closer and the race is hers to lose now. | :49:31. | :49:37.
Jorgensen will pick her moment, I guess. It will be a case of who will | :49:38. | :49:47.
respond. When Jorgensen joins Jenkins and Ide, will she go with | :49:48. | :49:50.
them, will she stay with them or a little while? Will she kick past | :49:51. | :49:56.
them and we'll either of them be able to match her rush to mark you | :49:57. | :50:02.
hope there will be a response, perhaps being out in the lead, you | :50:03. | :50:11.
hope they have kept something in reserve. But I think they may have | :50:12. | :50:17.
pushed it and pushed it hoping to stay away from Jurgensen in the | :50:18. | :50:23.
beginning. Jurgensen has placed this so far and has been the predator. | :50:24. | :50:29.
She has taken the race and is closing, closing. If there is a | :50:30. | :50:38.
response from Helen Jenkins and Ide, it would be tremendous. Let's see | :50:39. | :50:46.
what happens. Jorgensen joins the leaders and settles into their pace. | :50:47. | :50:54.
She is alongside Ide. She can just sit in there and wait for the time | :50:55. | :51:00.
to strike. Jorgensen is biding her time. She has closed the gap and run | :51:01. | :51:06.
her way up through the field to join the leaders at the front. Now it is | :51:07. | :51:14.
down to her when she makes the final bid for victory on home soil. Helen | :51:15. | :51:19.
Jenkins leads for Great Britain. Ide for Japan. Gwen Jorgensen is third | :51:20. | :51:29.
for the USA. Which way will it end? No slowing down from Helen Jenkins | :51:30. | :51:36.
and, she has not given in. She will note Jorgensen is there, hear her | :51:37. | :51:43.
breathing. There is the response from Helen Jenkins and, she has | :51:44. | :51:47.
upped the pace and trying to move away from Ide. Jorgensen's response | :51:48. | :51:56.
and it looks like Jorgensen will move up onto Helen's shoulder. Helen | :51:57. | :52:02.
Jenkins still leads. Another little surge from Helen Jenkins son. -- | :52:03. | :52:13.
Jenkins. It is a drink and a shower for Jenkins. The world number one on | :52:14. | :52:21.
the shoulder of Helen Jenkins, now. Ide is working hard to stay with | :52:22. | :52:29.
them. Now they have a long stretch ahead. Jorgensen is just waiting for | :52:30. | :52:40.
her moment. She is the best runner in the field. But you never know | :52:41. | :52:45.
with Helen Jenkins on the comeback from the injury, the long lay-off | :52:46. | :52:52.
post London 2012 where she spent so long in recovery. Dark days for | :52:53. | :52:58.
Helen Jenkins and what a fightback it has been. Jorgensen waits for her | :52:59. | :53:05.
time to strike and moves clear of Jenkins. A sudden kick from the | :53:06. | :53:13.
American, that was spectacular. Jenkins has no answer. Ide is left | :53:14. | :53:21.
trailing in third. Jorgensen leads, Jenkins in second, Ide in third. | :53:22. | :53:28.
Look how much Jorgensen has in reserve. Jorgensen has played it | :53:29. | :53:35.
brilliantly. She really did play it perfectly, huge acceleration and | :53:36. | :53:41.
within five or ten strides she was five metres ahead. Is there any | :53:42. | :53:46.
possibility of Helen Jenkins and Ide coming back? Jurgensen is turning | :53:47. | :53:55.
the leg speed that little bit more. She will be counting down and | :53:56. | :54:01.
probably I would think, feeling very confident that after that speed she | :54:02. | :54:08.
has this race in the bag. Another magnificent performance over 10,000 | :54:09. | :54:14.
metres from when Jorgensen. Assuming she has timed it right, this victory | :54:15. | :54:20.
is hers, in the bag to add to the windcheater in Japan. The victory | :54:21. | :54:24.
over the sprint distance she took in Hyde Park. Jenkins has been joined | :54:25. | :54:34.
by Ide. She has responded and fancies her chances of taking second | :54:35. | :54:42.
place. These two were the long-time leaders and they have a race within | :54:43. | :54:48.
a race now as they fight for second. Jurgensen has her sights on big tree | :54:49. | :54:55.
in Chicago. She is so consistent. You know she will be in the front | :54:56. | :54:59.
pack of the bike nine times out of ten. You always wonder if there is | :55:00. | :55:06.
that extra bit of pace. Helen Jenkins will have been working with | :55:07. | :55:13.
her husband seeing if there is any extra pace. Jenkins and Ide inject | :55:14. | :55:25.
dinky little bit of extra pace. Jenkins testing Ide. They have a ten | :55:26. | :55:31.
second deficit and they will not make up the time over Jurgensen. The | :55:32. | :55:38.
leader and the chasers will eyeball each other again. Jurgensen just | :55:39. | :55:45.
cruising through the gears now on the final stage of this triathlon. | :55:46. | :55:51.
Swam well, 1500 metres in the harbour. Joined up with a chase | :55:52. | :55:59.
group on two wheels. Lost a bit of time but kept it achievable. It was | :56:00. | :56:05.
never more than a minute, a minute and a half she was on two wheels and | :56:06. | :56:11.
when she dumped her by the end of the cycle, she knew she had a very | :56:12. | :56:16.
good chance. We knew as well because we have seen her do it time and time | :56:17. | :56:23.
again. Jenkins has moved away from Ide again. Ide responded the last | :56:24. | :56:28.
time Jenkins broke, can she do it again? Jorgensen is out on her own | :56:29. | :56:36.
as she bids to make it three in a row in the triathlon series in 2014. | :56:37. | :56:45.
Gwen Jorgensen has overcame a bit of weakness on the swim and tactically | :56:46. | :56:52.
on the bike. She would still say she is a learning triathletes, but when | :56:53. | :56:57.
you have this running strength coming towards the end, it gives a | :56:58. | :57:01.
little bit of capability to be able to make a slight backing off on the | :57:02. | :57:06.
other disciplines knowing she has the magnificent strength on the | :57:07. | :57:13.
final discipline of the run. Jorgensen can soak it up, she will | :57:14. | :57:18.
fit the final stretch as Jenkins widens the gap to Ide to guarantee | :57:19. | :57:26.
second position. The crowds are waiting for Gwen Jorgensen. There is | :57:27. | :57:30.
a crescendo of noise. Another win on home soil. She hits blood look | :57:31. | :57:37.
carpet and goes past where she parked her bike a little while ago. | :57:38. | :57:41.
Starts to smile and relax. Gwen Jorgensen will win the world | :57:42. | :57:53.
triathlon series event in Chicago. That is the smile of victory for | :57:54. | :57:59.
Gwen Jorgensen. She takes the world triathlon series in Chicago | :58:00. | :58:03.
comfortably. Jorgensen takes her third win of the new campaign, | :58:04. | :58:08.
having won in Yokohama and again in London. Helen Jenkins maintains her | :58:09. | :58:16.
excellent form since coming back from the long injury lay-off. She | :58:17. | :58:21.
takes her third podium of the world triathlons series in 2014. And a | :58:22. | :58:27.
smile that Ide as she crosses the line to take third for Japan. 27 | :58:28. | :58:34.
seconds off the pace of Gwen Jorgensen of the United States of | :58:35. | :58:40.
America. Confirmation of the result. It is a record rating six win for | :58:41. | :58:48.
Gwen Jorgensen. Helen Jenkins who led the field is so long in second | :58:49. | :58:56.
with Ide not far behind. Annamaria Mazzetti just missed out on podium. | :58:57. | :59:03.
Your parents talk about how special it is to win on a course that will | :59:04. | :59:08.
be next year's grand final championships? So many friends and | :59:09. | :59:14.
family, it is amazing. I didn't get the swim I wanted at the crowd | :59:15. | :59:21.
pushed me through the finish. I knew she was catching and because it is | :59:22. | :59:27.
so humid, I am not great in the humility, I was trying to keep | :59:28. | :59:33.
myself together and I could not afford to back down. I knew she was | :59:34. | :59:46.
coming. You would have known the gap distance, it was an opportunity to | :59:47. | :59:52.
try to make up as much time as possible? It is hard to get the | :59:53. | :59:57.
group working and the bike wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. | :59:58. | :00:05.
But I loved the swim. Jorgensen extends her lead in the competition | :00:06. | :00:06.
with Helen Jenkins her closest rival. Jodie Stimpson is third. | :00:07. | :00:10.
Sarah Groff dropping down to fourth position. Ide is fifth overall. | :00:11. | :00:15.
After that amazing effort, attention now turns to the men. | :00:16. | :00:33.
Well, Jonathan Brownlee will move down the list because he is not here | :00:34. | :00:49.
in Chicago. 27 macro is the only British man in the event. | :00:50. | :00:57.
So, the race about to begin. Here we go! They are into Lake Michigan. The | :00:58. | :01:11.
Chicago leg of the 2004 at teen ITU World Triathlon series begins in the | :01:12. | :01:20.
cool waters of the great Lake. Somebody got kicked in the face | :01:21. | :01:23.
there. It can be a scramble at the start. You can see the orange | :01:24. | :01:31.
inflatables at the top of the screen, they will turn there. Not as | :01:32. | :01:39.
choppy for the men as it was for the women. It is a lot more gentle | :01:40. | :01:47.
indeed. The times in the women's race were significant lease slower | :01:48. | :01:50.
than we have seen throughout the season. -- significantly. So, Javier | :01:51. | :02:07.
Gomez Noya starting with Mario Mola alongside. This is a great | :02:08. | :02:14.
opportunity for 27 macro for Great Britain. He could make a big | :02:15. | :02:21.
breakthrough. Lots of young Americans getting the | :02:22. | :02:44.
chance in this race. Guys like William Huffman, we don't see them | :02:45. | :02:52.
week in week out in the series. We need to look out for Richard | :02:53. | :03:02.
Mawrey, Joao Pereira. They should feature in the top ten in the | :03:03. | :03:08.
absence of some of the big names, particularly the Brownlee brothers. | :03:09. | :03:18.
You can see the tide conditions as they are turning three. -- turning | :03:19. | :03:35.
through. In the bunch, we can see some really nasty things happening. | :03:36. | :03:41.
Goggles removed, hats can get ripped. At times, they can come out | :03:42. | :03:50.
of the water battered and bleeding, such is the level of confrontation | :03:51. | :03:56.
that they can encounter. They are OK at the moment. | :03:57. | :04:15.
I think Javier Gomez Noya was in fifth or sixth position. The women's | :04:16. | :04:29.
race went through a lot slower because the conditions are much | :04:30. | :04:36.
better. 27 macro is wearing number seven today. He is a very consistent | :04:37. | :04:43.
racer. He finished third in the town event. I look forward to seeing how | :04:44. | :04:48.
he progresses today. We can start to see the timings now. | :04:49. | :05:14.
We saw Javier Gomez come out in ninth position. | :05:15. | :05:26.
27 macro is in 17th position for Great Britain. Adam Bowden will be | :05:27. | :05:55.
happy with his position in 17th. He is letting the other athletes do the | :05:56. | :06:03.
work at the moment. We are starting to see the fields stretch out. I | :06:04. | :06:12.
think about 25 people are starting to make a breakaway. | :06:13. | :06:27.
There is the world number one, Javier Gomez Noya. He won the first | :06:28. | :06:37.
race of the season, and again in Cape Town, and he made it three in a | :06:38. | :06:42.
row in Yokohama. He didn't do quite so well in height Park last time out | :06:43. | :06:46.
because the distance was shortened, he finished sixth. You don't want to | :06:47. | :06:53.
get caught on the inside with the big unit behind you, climbing all | :06:54. | :06:59.
over you and pushing you under. Most of these guys can look after | :07:00. | :07:06.
themselves, but if you get trapped with three or four people looking | :07:07. | :07:11.
for a close line around the inflatable, things can get nasty. | :07:12. | :07:22.
A lot of the year the lake here is iced up. Ice breakers ply the lake | :07:23. | :07:38.
trying to clear the shipping lanes. It is warm enough not to require wet | :07:39. | :07:43.
suits. That is a big advantage for the real swimmers out there. With | :07:44. | :07:51.
the Commonwealth Games this year, some of the athletes are perhaps | :07:52. | :08:00.
looking on that as a priority, rather than going through the whole | :08:01. | :08:05.
series. There is a requirement to do a huge number of races to qualify | :08:06. | :08:13.
for the world Championships overall. For the athletes for the | :08:14. | :08:16.
Commonwealth Games, another big race with silverware available. That has | :08:17. | :08:22.
been the focus for the Brownlee brothers. It is not often they get | :08:23. | :08:32.
to represent England. So, the first stage of the three sport triathlon | :08:33. | :08:36.
is approaching its conclusion with the magnificent Chicago skyline. | :08:37. | :08:47.
So, they will come out of the water, they will cross the road, | :08:48. | :08:59.
which is closed for traffic. The first man died immediately takes out | :09:00. | :09:03.
his swim happen goggles. A massive group of guys all within | :09:04. | :09:45.
30 seconds of each other. We have 34 men within 30 seconds of each other. | :09:46. | :09:51.
There is the chance we will have a huge pack of cyclists together. The | :09:52. | :10:04.
crowds are getting excited seeing an American leaving first. He has | :10:05. | :10:10.
Javier Gomez, the world number one, hot on his heels. It can be a little | :10:11. | :10:32.
bit chaotic at times in there. Mario Mola and Adam Bowden were very close | :10:33. | :10:43.
together in transition. With Mario Mola looking to get in front of the | :10:44. | :10:50.
lead pack, I think there will be a lot of action early on on the bikes. | :10:51. | :10:58.
This group of ten or so are trying to close down the leader. Canute | :10:59. | :11:10.
can't possibly win this race, but he is certainly keen to make a mark. He | :11:11. | :11:21.
will get to see the chasing pack as he makes the turn. Richard Murray | :11:22. | :11:32.
finished on the podium in the last race in London. He wants to do some | :11:33. | :11:39.
damage here in the absence of the Brownlee brothers. Over the full | :11:40. | :11:45.
distance, I think he fancies his chances here. | :11:46. | :12:00.
There is Javier Gomez, the world number one. | :12:01. | :12:25.
Alexander Bryukhankov there, one of the Russians, he is a big old unit. | :12:26. | :12:39.
The leader has been caught, and he joins the lead group. Richard Murray | :12:40. | :12:46.
is desperately trying to catch up that gap. The lead pack is beginning | :12:47. | :12:51.
to establish itself, beginning to work together. Canute is happy to be | :12:52. | :12:59.
back in the pack, it seems. Great ride by Mario Mola. He was 30 | :13:00. | :13:17.
seconds down. He came out of the water alongside Adam Bowden from | :13:18. | :13:24.
Great Britain. There is the man with the real pedigree in food recycling, | :13:25. | :13:33.
Tom Davison. Cameron Good from Canada is right behind him. The lead | :13:34. | :13:57.
group. Javier Gomez is still adjusting his footwear. | :13:58. | :14:06.
A group of 30 riders together on this huge six Lane Hwy through the | :14:07. | :14:15.
centre of Chicago. It is a lovely summer afternoon in Illinois. This | :14:16. | :14:22.
is the graphic that shows you the difference between the lead group | :14:23. | :14:31.
and Richard Murray, you was one of the favourites today but did not | :14:32. | :14:38.
have a good swimmer. This is the second group, led by Richard Murray. | :14:39. | :14:49.
He has some good cycling company. They can probably work faster than | :14:50. | :14:52.
the big group, certainly on the turns. It is a lot to ask for | :14:53. | :15:01.
Richard Murray to close down that gap. We know his running ability is | :15:02. | :15:07.
fantastic and he can do some damage over 10,000 metres. He was second in | :15:08. | :15:17.
London, third in Yokohama, fifth overall last year. | :15:18. | :15:35.
Adam Bowden. 17th in the London Hyde Park race last month. We have lost | :15:36. | :15:41.
Jones, the Canadian. Kyle Jones, number 18. Doesn't seem to have hurt | :15:42. | :15:50.
himself. We issue me it is a mechanical issue for Kyle Jones. | :15:51. | :15:56.
Back with the leaders. Tayama of Japan propping them up. Polyanskiy | :15:57. | :16:01.
won't be far away. Tom Davidson pushes hard. One or two following | :16:02. | :16:10.
avoiding the cones that separate the road. We saw a couple of the women | :16:11. | :16:15.
crossing over to the wrong side of the street yesterday. It adds an | :16:16. | :16:22.
element of surprise when he suddenly kicks away and those who want to go | :16:23. | :16:28.
with him are taken aback by the speed he injects into a race. He is | :16:29. | :16:35.
out of his seat. Seeing if anyone wants to go with him as he breaks | :16:36. | :16:42.
down the hill. Davison has pushed clear. One of the Australians has | :16:43. | :16:48.
tried to go with him. There he is, number 57, Tom Davison. Look how | :16:49. | :16:56.
comfortable he is on those turns. Wishing it right to the edge of the | :16:57. | :17:04.
tarmac. They will have to slow down behind him and he has a chance to | :17:05. | :17:08.
stretch this lead even further. Maybe he has had enough of helping | :17:09. | :17:14.
the others along. He glances behind to see who else is there. It is one | :17:15. | :17:21.
of the Australians, I cannot tell you who it is yet. It could be | :17:22. | :17:25.
Cameron Good. He was with the leaders. It looks for the first time | :17:26. | :17:37.
perhaps we do have a little break away at the front. Tom Davison and | :17:38. | :17:50.
Cameron Good. Tom Davison looks over and says, let's work this break. It | :17:51. | :18:06.
would be a huge breakaway that Good. No words exchanged yet. An | :18:07. | :18:12.
acknowledgement work needs to be done. They are away and so far, they | :18:13. | :18:20.
are working well. Can Good match Davison? Davison, we know has the | :18:21. | :18:30.
calibre on two wheels. Just avoids the cones. It is a part of the cause | :18:31. | :18:35.
that scares me slightly. One group going in one direction and another | :18:36. | :18:42.
group going in another direction. Hairpin bend coming. They go to the | :18:43. | :18:48.
extreme left of the road. Davison shows the way and makes a much | :18:49. | :18:53.
tighter turn. There is acid that can lead opening up for Cameron Good and | :18:54. | :19:02.
Tom Davison. Tom Davison comes from Christchurch in New Zealand. 24 | :19:03. | :19:07.
years of age. Had a couple of knee reconstructions in his career which | :19:08. | :19:14.
has a fact did his running ability. His cycling skills remain | :19:15. | :19:20.
unparalleled. The end of the penultimate lap. We will get a look | :19:21. | :19:29.
at the damage they have inflicted on the rest of them and whether it is | :19:30. | :19:35.
good enough. Potentially for Cameron Good, I am not sure about Tom | :19:36. | :19:41.
Davison's running ability. There are some great runners in the chasing | :19:42. | :19:47.
group. They are a long way off the pace at this stage. 19 seconds was | :19:48. | :19:53.
the gap at the end of the previous lap. Let's see how it stands | :19:54. | :20:06.
officially at the end of lap seven. It looks like being around 28, 29, | :20:07. | :20:13.
30 seconds, possibly. It is more than that, it is 34 seconds at the | :20:14. | :20:23.
end of lap seven. Can Tom Davison stretch this another 15 seconds on | :20:24. | :20:29.
the last lap? If he can it puts Cameron Good in a very strong | :20:30. | :20:36.
position. 52nd, 215 metres going out of transition. It is a long way to | :20:37. | :20:44.
close down. But as we sort with Gwen Jorgensen, an exceptional runner can | :20:45. | :20:55.
do that. Richard Murray is still 57 seconds off the pace of these two, | :20:56. | :21:00.
who are dictating this race. Starting to sense there could be an | :21:01. | :21:09.
upset. That is more than they have done to stretch the gap from Richard | :21:10. | :21:16.
Murray. Rather than impacting a lot of damage onto the chasing pack. | :21:17. | :21:23.
Richard Murray, not only unable to close the gap but losing at you | :21:24. | :21:30.
seconds each lap as they go through. -- a few seconds. Cameron Good of | :21:31. | :21:39.
Australia. Tom Davison of New Zealand. | :21:40. | :21:55.
An interesting time, one of his first ever visit to Europe, Tom | :21:56. | :22:06.
Davison, was bitten by a spider in Germany and spent eight days in | :22:07. | :22:11.
hospital! It was an interesting introduction to life on the road. He | :22:12. | :22:18.
is very much a bike specialist and has won some big races on two | :22:19. | :22:25.
wheels. His transition to triathlon hasn't always been smooth. Maybe | :22:26. | :22:27.
this is the day when he makes the baked -- breakthrough. That time gap | :22:28. | :22:37.
is eating out to around 40 seconds. Cameron Good is doing more work at | :22:38. | :22:45.
the front to get more of a time advantage going through. Just the | :22:46. | :22:52.
two of them, been together now for the last three lap. Gaining a few | :22:53. | :23:02.
seconds each lap. As the race progresses and the riders behind | :23:03. | :23:05.
them get more tired, but is more likely to grow that little bit more | :23:06. | :23:09.
quickly. I bet both of them are running short on liquid. It is an | :23:10. | :23:13.
empty bottle for Cameron Good. They will be looking forward to the | :23:14. | :23:18.
transition and a chance to pick up water on their way out from the | :23:19. | :23:25.
feeding stations. That is the Richard Murray group. It is closing | :23:26. | :23:27.
in on the chase group. They may be surprised to find the chase group is | :23:28. | :23:33.
without two of its racers who have broken away. They were 34 seconds | :23:34. | :23:42.
clear. Richard Murray has a lot to do here if he is to make an impact | :23:43. | :23:51.
in Chicago. Has Sven Riederer, an experienced triathlete that company. | :23:52. | :23:55.
We only have a couple of minutes of riding from the leaders and then I | :23:56. | :24:01.
think they will be something to watch coming into the running | :24:02. | :24:06.
discipline. What a huge gap. We have still got these two brave enough to | :24:07. | :24:15.
breakaway. Brave enough for Cameron Good to follow him and put in a sick | :24:16. | :24:18.
ethic and amounts of work as well to ensure they do stay away. Cameron | :24:19. | :24:36.
Good from Sydney and Tom Davison from Christchurch in New Zealand. | :24:37. | :24:40.
What an impact they have had. Will they run to gather at the start? | :24:41. | :24:46.
Will Davison have the pace to go with Good? How long can Davison stay | :24:47. | :24:54.
near the front on the 10,000 metre run? We have seen how strong Tom is | :24:55. | :25:03.
on the bike section but never to the situation where he is leading into | :25:04. | :25:10.
transition. It will be great watching. Can either of them stay | :25:11. | :25:23.
away? The time gap is squeezing out. Every pedal revolution, another half | :25:24. | :25:32.
a second added. Cameron Green -- Cameron Good in the green and gold | :25:33. | :25:42.
of Australia. The two Antipodean 's giving a really good account of | :25:43. | :25:45.
themselves and there is nobody to eyeball them heading in the opposite | :25:46. | :25:51.
direction, such is the lead they have opened up in this bike leg. | :25:52. | :25:59.
Good is thinking about transition and reaches down to remove the | :26:00. | :26:05.
straps from his shoes. Tom Davison looking at his feet and wants to get | :26:06. | :26:09.
this right. They need to be in and out quickly. So, Good takes his foot | :26:10. | :26:17.
out of tissue and rests it on top for the final stages of this race. | :26:18. | :26:24.
Heading towards transition. Last time they came in here they were 34 | :26:25. | :26:28.
seconds clear. They may have added another view as they approach the | :26:29. | :26:34.
end of their eighth and final lap after an hour and a quarter of | :26:35. | :26:39.
swimming and cycling. At the dismount line. No problems for | :26:40. | :26:48.
number 57, Tom Davison of New Zealand and number 16, Cameron Good | :26:49. | :26:53.
of Australia. Davison dumps his helmet and heads out of transition. | :26:54. | :26:57.
He will go past Cameron Good, who will not be far behind him. We will | :26:58. | :27:04.
look at the chasing group. It is a massive group. The two groups | :27:05. | :27:10.
converging. We have Adam Bowden near the front is coming into | :27:11. | :27:16.
transition. It was 34 seconds at the end of lap seven. Up the end of lap | :27:17. | :27:26.
eight, it is a few seconds ago. Up towards 40 seconds. | :27:27. | :27:27.
eight, it is a few seconds ago. Up 42 seconds in total between the | :27:28. | :27:32.
leaders and the chasers. Adam bowed, a third of the chasing group in. | :27:33. | :27:41.
Andrew Yorke is there, Pereira is there. Canute is there and Richard | :27:42. | :27:47.
Murray has finally managed to get up with the leaders and will attempt to | :27:48. | :27:54.
show his explosive running capabilities as they head out onto | :27:55. | :27:56.
the streets of Chicago or the final stage. Mario Mola is a threat. Let's | :27:57. | :28:04.
watch him go to work as he tries to force his way up through the field | :28:05. | :28:10.
here over this 10,000 metre run. Four laps to go. There's job to | :28:11. | :28:18.
close down these two. Cameron Good leads, Tom Davison pushed back to | :28:19. | :28:22.
second. How long can they stay out in front with the strongest runners | :28:23. | :28:30.
forcing their way in contention. Everybody getting water at the first | :28:31. | :28:34.
opportunity apart from Javier Gomez who is staying clear at this stage. | :28:35. | :28:40.
Just was offered a drink by an opponent. They are showering and | :28:41. | :28:46.
dousing themselves down in water, trying to keep cool. A little group | :28:47. | :28:53.
forming with Tony Dodds and Adam Boutin. Polyanskiy, one of the | :28:54. | :28:59.
Russians on the left. -- Adam Bowden. There is Gomez. Early | :29:00. | :29:09.
indications certainly show perhaps the pace of that big chase pack | :29:10. | :29:20.
wasn't that fast because the leg turnover is good, and look to be | :29:21. | :29:29.
closing already. Tom Davison is falling behind Cameron Good very | :29:30. | :29:37.
quickly and quite dramatically. Responsibility on Gomez and Richard | :29:38. | :29:39.
Murray allowing themselves to stay down on the chasing pack. Huge | :29:40. | :29:48.
responsibility on them to close it down. A look back at Cameron Good's | :29:49. | :29:59.
preparation or transition. Look at his speed in his running shoes | :30:00. | :30:01.
across the tarmac. It won't be long before he is caught. Decent runner | :30:02. | :30:03.
but he does not have the speed of Gomez and Moeller and the Russians | :30:04. | :30:14.
and Adam Bowden. -- Mario Mola. To win a race of this stature, you have | :30:15. | :30:29.
to be an exceptional athlete. In the women's race, you could see hide | :30:30. | :30:34.
Gwen Jorgensen has worked so hard on the other aspect apart from the | :30:35. | :30:44.
running of the triathlon. And the tax ex. That is a huge performance | :30:45. | :30:52.
by the Russian, Dmitry Polyanskiy. He is trying to break down this a | :30:53. | :30:58.
group of runners. It is good to see Adam Bowden there as well, looking | :30:59. | :31:07.
comfortable. We know that Alexander Bryukhankov is a good runner. He | :31:08. | :31:11.
finished in seventh position at the London Olympics. He is no match for | :31:12. | :31:24.
Mario Mola. This is our leader, Cameron Good. He is running well, | :31:25. | :31:31.
but his being caught. That is the distance between him and the chasing | :31:32. | :31:43.
group. Cameron Good can see them coming. He knows it is a lost cause. | :31:44. | :31:52.
There is Fernando Alarza. Three Spaniards and the Portuguese in that | :31:53. | :32:03.
group. Richard Murray is not far behind, trying to get with them. | :32:04. | :32:17.
This leading group of six includes Adam Bowden from Great Britain. | :32:18. | :32:28.
There is an opportunity for Adam Bowden to maybe even get on the | :32:29. | :32:31.
podium. That would be a significant victory for him. At the moment, | :32:32. | :32:45.
Richard Murray seems content to stay behind that group. The fit speed of | :32:46. | :33:02.
Cameron Good is down to something slightly quicker than a job. I think | :33:03. | :33:09.
he has had his moments of fee. This group is hunting him down. You have | :33:10. | :33:15.
to hand it to Cameron Good, he had the bravery to go for it. Maybe it | :33:16. | :33:29.
is a learning experience for him. Maybe if he focuses on his training | :33:30. | :33:34.
next time, he could come through. These are the real runners in the | :33:35. | :33:43.
field coming through. We said that Richard Murray would be up with that | :33:44. | :33:47.
group, but if anything it appears he is struggling to maintain contact | :33:48. | :33:57.
with that group. Brendan Sexton is just on the shoulder of the script. | :33:58. | :34:07.
One Australian will join the leaders well another Australian is being | :34:08. | :34:14.
caught. What a race by Cameron Good. He is the man who took it on. It was | :34:15. | :34:25.
a good move. It might yet bring him the best result of his season. | :34:26. | :34:36.
Brendan Sexton looks like the stronger of the two Australian | :34:37. | :34:40.
runners. We are approaching the end of the first lap. To his credit, | :34:41. | :34:54.
Cameron Good has held onto his lead. Dmitry Polyanskiy is there, he was | :34:55. | :35:00.
third in Cape Town, he is not far away. Cameron Good is getting | :35:01. | :35:13.
caught. All credit to him. He will have to give way to the three | :35:14. | :35:19.
Spaniards and Joao Pereira. Adam Bowden seems to be struggling. | :35:20. | :35:25.
Dmitry Polyanskiy and Brendan Sexton are trying to close the gap. Let's | :35:26. | :35:33.
not write off Richard Murray yet. He does tend to leave something for the | :35:34. | :35:40.
end of the race. It is 33 degrees here today. It does appear that | :35:41. | :35:47.
Richard Murray is making a huge effort just a bridge that gap and he | :35:48. | :35:51.
is not able to do it. We thought Alexander Bryukhankov might just be | :35:52. | :35:56.
waiting for it to come down to the last couple of kilometres, but he | :35:57. | :36:02.
hasn't done that. He has really lifted up the speed. Adam Bowden is | :36:03. | :36:12.
still within a great opportunity, to get on the podium. Alexander | :36:13. | :36:22.
Bryukhankov is still working very hard indeed. These two men, Mario | :36:23. | :36:34.
Mola and Javier Gomez Noya, between them they have won all of the races | :36:35. | :36:47.
so far. 23 IIMACRO1 in London. They are out in front. They have had a | :36:48. | :36:52.
couple of big sprint battles between them so far this season, including | :36:53. | :36:58.
the thrilling finish in Japan where Javier Gomez sneaked ahead in the | :36:59. | :37:05.
final few metres. They are joined at the front right Joao Pereira, he was | :37:06. | :37:12.
on the podium in London at the end of last month. Richard Murray was | :37:13. | :37:23.
second in London but falling back today. Big performance there by Joao | :37:24. | :37:36.
Pereira. It is still relatively early in this run. Does Richard | :37:37. | :37:41.
Murray have anything left in reserve? Mario Mola is going to the | :37:42. | :37:50.
front, starting to force the speed. He is looking to see if he can burn | :37:51. | :38:03.
off Javier Gomez and Mario Mola. A little glance behind by Javier | :38:04. | :38:07.
Gomez. Mario Mola is unable to get away. | :38:08. | :38:22.
Three men from the Iberian peninsular leading the way in | :38:23. | :38:28.
Chicago. They are clear of the field. Mario Mola takes his chance | :38:29. | :38:37.
to have a look over. Just checking out the forum. If I make another | :38:38. | :38:43.
move, do I have the speed to get away from them? Joao Pereira is | :38:44. | :38:58.
covering everything at the moment. These runners at the front and | :38:59. | :39:06.
beginning to stretch. That initial big leading pack is beginning to get | :39:07. | :39:12.
very stretched out. Just about half of the run distance to go. They are | :39:13. | :39:32.
setting a really fast speed. Joao Pereira moving alongside. | :39:33. | :39:46.
Mario Mola looks the more relaxed of the three at this stage. Even | :39:47. | :39:59.
without Jonathan Brownlee and Alistair Brownlee here, people are | :40:00. | :40:03.
saying there is a change of guard at the front. Javier Gomez and 23 have | :40:04. | :40:17.
realised what it needs to be at the very top of this game. They have | :40:18. | :40:22.
been consistently getting up to the front. It has been a huge | :40:23. | :40:28.
breakthrough for Mario Mola, winning just a couple of weeks back. Javier | :40:29. | :40:31.
Gomez looks behind. Javier Gomez Noya, born in | :40:32. | :41:03.
Switzerland. Still hungry for success. Still has his eyes on the | :41:04. | :41:10.
next Olympics. The two Spanish boys inject a bit of speed on the hairpin | :41:11. | :41:15.
turn. I think Joao Pereira has it covered. He is gritting his teeth. | :41:16. | :41:21.
His head is beginning to roll, but he covered the break. Good reactions | :41:22. | :41:26.
from Joao Pereira. He had to dig deep to get the strength to get back | :41:27. | :41:32.
on terms with the Spanish boys. That was a huge effort. PDF he let that | :41:33. | :41:39.
gap open, the likelihood of him unable to close it was very | :41:40. | :41:44.
unlikely. Adam Bowden is still in fourth place. | :41:45. | :41:52.
It looks like the two Spanish boys have got away from Joao Pereira. | :41:53. | :42:03.
What is the possibility of Adam Bowden closing down? Does he have | :42:04. | :42:08.
the opportunity to make the podium? He will be watching Joao Pereira in | :42:09. | :42:14.
front of him, I wear that he has been left behind by Javier Gomez | :42:15. | :42:30.
Noya and Mario Mola. So, they are completing half distance. Joao | :42:31. | :42:38.
Pereira is breathing heavily, blowing hard. The end of lap to. | :42:39. | :42:50.
What a race this has been in Chicago. Lots to enjoy. Javier Gomez | :42:51. | :43:03.
and Mario Mola, the two best triathletes this season so far. Adam | :43:04. | :43:11.
Bowden is in fourth position. 15 seconds between first and fourth. | :43:12. | :43:19.
Joao Pereira still has ten seconds on Adam Bowden in fourth. | :43:20. | :43:36.
It looks like Javier Gomez is making his move early on to try to stretch | :43:37. | :43:50.
away. Cameron Good is still up there. Mario Mola had to watch as | :43:51. | :44:00.
compatriot around that turn. Javier Gomez can just pull away. We are at | :44:01. | :44:18.
down to the last 3.3 kilometres on the roads in Jakarta Globe to | :44:19. | :44:24.
determine who will win around five of the ITU World Triathlon series. | :44:25. | :44:27.
the roads in Jakarta Globe to determine who will win around It | :44:28. | :44:28.
looks like the stranglehold by the Spanish boys will remain intact. He | :44:29. | :44:35.
has the sprint finish to make it count? Will it be Javier Gomez to | :44:36. | :44:41.
take his fourth win of the season, or will Mario Mola take a second? We | :44:42. | :44:46.
have got so used to seeing outstanding running in the women's | :44:47. | :44:52.
events and the men's events. This is taking it to another level. Javier | :44:53. | :44:58.
Gomez is pushing, pushing, pushing. I think we could see a sub 30 clock | :44:59. | :45:04.
for the ten kilometres. Every time Javier Gomez pushes, Mario Mola | :45:05. | :45:08.
covers. Javier Gomez has gone! He suddenly | :45:09. | :45:27.
went for it. A little burst of acceleration from Javier Gomez. | :45:28. | :45:33.
Mario Mola could not cover its. Not initially. Maybe he will find a way | :45:34. | :45:39.
to close the gap. Is that a terminal break from Javier Gomez? This might | :45:40. | :45:54.
be significant. A sudden burst from Javier Gomez. That might have just | :45:55. | :46:03.
brought him success. That comes from a man who is prepared to hurt. The | :46:04. | :46:08.
pit such a significant burst of pace, just as big -- a change of | :46:09. | :46:14.
speed, that is extraordinary. He opened a gap of five seconds in a | :46:15. | :46:20.
very short distance. He is really pumping those elbows. He has | :46:21. | :46:31.
maintained his early speed. At the moment, it looks as if Mario Mola | :46:32. | :46:39.
cannot get back to him. Does he have the capability to close the gap? | :46:40. | :46:43.
Javier Gomez has put down his marker. If Mario Mola gets back | :46:44. | :46:48.
level, with there be anything left for Javier Gomez? At the moment, | :46:49. | :46:54.
Javier Gomez really is the number one triathletes in the world for the | :46:55. | :47:07.
men. They are battling it out here for fourth position. Adam Bowden | :47:08. | :47:17.
from Great Britain. Fernando Alarza from Spain, Dmitry Polyanskiy from | :47:18. | :47:27.
Russia. One laps left. It is a familiar figure at the front. Javier | :47:28. | :47:36.
Gomez Noya from Spain is on his way potentially to his fourth World | :47:37. | :47:41.
Triathlon series win of the year. He was the Olympic silver medallist. | :47:42. | :47:51.
This is the trio trying to sort themselves out. Joao Pereira is | :47:52. | :47:58.
still in front of them. Officially he is still in third, but 25 seconds | :47:59. | :48:11.
behind Javier Gomez. The pack are catching up with Joao Pereira. | :48:12. | :48:18.
Brendan Sexton is six seconds behind the pack. | :48:19. | :48:31.
Once again, Javier Gomez avoids heading for the water station. Joao | :48:32. | :48:40.
Pereira seems to have picked it up again. He seems to be moving along | :48:41. | :48:48.
quite comfortably. He will take some water. One for a shower, one for a | :48:49. | :48:57.
drink. Javier Gomez continues to lap runner after runner on his way to | :48:58. | :49:04.
his fourth win of the year. The golden number one on his arm, that | :49:05. | :49:09.
is the man trying to fend off the challenge from behind from a | :49:10. | :49:17.
Russian, another Spaniard hands Adam Bowden from Great Britain. Brave | :49:18. | :49:24.
performance by Joao Pereira. He has lifted his speed. He just backed off | :49:25. | :49:31.
bits, he is really pushing it through. He has to work so hard to | :49:32. | :49:40.
maintain his third position. With three athletes working together | :49:41. | :49:47.
behind Javier Gomez close-down. Mario Mola has to watch as his | :49:48. | :49:53.
compatriot heads in the opposite direction. | :49:54. | :50:02.
If Joao Pereira keeps it together, he should have enough to get on the | :50:03. | :50:15.
podium. So, this is the man, unless something happens, should get the | :50:16. | :50:22.
first position. He is the best in the world, has beaten allcomers. The | :50:23. | :50:32.
Brownlee brothers had a go, bats he managed to beat them. The only time | :50:33. | :50:36.
he was beaten this year was Mario Mola, in the London race that was | :50:37. | :50:41.
shortened. This is his distance, the Olympic distance. | :50:42. | :50:58.
group. Takes his turn and does not get fazed if there is a breakaway. | :50:59. | :51:09.
Does not panic if Davison and Good move away. He has had the better | :51:10. | :51:15.
speed than Mario Mola and that is saying something because he is a | :51:16. | :51:24.
fantastic runner. Javier Gomez Noya of Spain. The strength of Gomez in a | :51:25. | :51:34.
race, he does not just give up. He looks at what he has done wrong, | :51:35. | :51:38.
looks at the strengths of the other athletes and responds to that. The | :51:39. | :51:42.
ability he has two put the huge pressure he showed a kilometre ago, | :51:43. | :51:49.
just by lifting 3.5 kilometres out, it is the tough way to do it. Total | :51:50. | :51:56.
commitment but that is the way to win. He is going away now. There is | :51:57. | :52:02.
a big opportunity for Pereira, having gone through the bad patch. | :52:03. | :52:10.
He looks over and sees Pereira is coming right back. Pereira cruises | :52:11. | :52:20.
past him. Jo?o Pereira who could not go with the initial burst when the | :52:21. | :52:27.
Spaniards went away, has taken advantage of a weakening Mario Mola. | :52:28. | :52:35.
Gomez shows no signs of any fragility at this stage. Within the | :52:36. | :52:41.
last 1000 metres, the victory is within his grasp now. Mario Mola in | :52:42. | :52:50.
third stop Pereira has gone into second position. We might have two | :52:51. | :52:56.
Spaniards on the podium again. Looks like Pereira will be between them, | :52:57. | :53:02.
the Portuguese on his way to second position. He has found something | :53:03. | :53:12.
from somewhere. Gomez takes a right-hand turn and that is where he | :53:13. | :53:19.
kicked away from Mario Mola. Now the gap is sit applicant. The gap is | :53:20. | :53:24.
significant but I am not sure he is moving any further away. -- | :53:25. | :53:31.
significant. Just going past Mario Mola must have given him so much | :53:32. | :53:36.
confidence knowing he can recover from a bad spell and still have that | :53:37. | :53:41.
ability. The doubts must have been there going through third place and | :53:42. | :53:47.
then doubting whether he would get on the podium. | :53:48. | :53:47.
there going through third place and then doubting whether he would Then | :53:48. | :53:50.
he comes back and goes past Mario Mola and maintains that pace. | :53:51. | :53:56.
Refuses to let Gomez go any further ahead of him. I might as well give | :53:57. | :54:03.
the World Championship title and the triathlon series to Gomez at this. | :54:04. | :54:11.
He is unstoppable at the top of the table with races in hamburg, | :54:12. | :54:18.
Stockholm and Edmonton to come. There is an unbelievable | :54:19. | :54:27.
performance. Winds in Auckland, Cape Town and Yokohama. He was forced off | :54:28. | :54:31.
the podium in the sprint in London but has returned to the preferred | :54:32. | :54:35.
Olympic distance here in Chicago and has put down a race of outstanding | :54:36. | :54:44.
quality. In the water, on two wheels and over 10,000 metres. There has | :54:45. | :54:50.
been no want to touch Javier Gomez of Spain. Now he can taste victory. | :54:51. | :54:59.
Crowd starting to welcome him home. Photographs and supports. Glancing | :55:00. | :55:07.
over his shoulder to see where the next best athlete, which is Jo?o | :55:08. | :55:10.
Pereira, is. Runs past the bikes parked up and he can smile and enjoy | :55:11. | :55:16.
the moment. The first World Series triathlon race to be held in Chicago | :55:17. | :55:22.
will go the way of Javier Gomez Noya of Spain. Raises his finger. Another | :55:23. | :55:28.
win for the Spaniard. Has done it in style in Chicago. Jo?o Pereira must | :55:29. | :55:35.
be applauded for that recovery and fight back. His race looked to be | :55:36. | :55:41.
lost but he fought back to take second position. Mario Mola is about | :55:42. | :55:50.
to finish. He was beaten first by Gomez and then Pereira. All three | :55:51. | :55:54.
are absolutely shattered in the heat of the afternoon in Chicago. Waiting | :55:55. | :56:00.
for the next man home. It might be one of the Russians. I think it | :56:01. | :56:06.
might be Dmitri Polyanskiy. He finishes in fourth position. 39 | :56:07. | :56:12.
seconds off the pace. Alarza of Spain is next. Fabian Picardo the | :56:13. | :56:21.
Italian is next across insects. Adam Bowden in the top ten again. | :56:22. | :56:27.
Excellent results, seventh position and the only British triathlete in | :56:28. | :56:34.
the race today. Yet another win for Javier Gomez Noya of Spain. One .47 | :56:35. | :56:46.
.21 of sheer quality. Confirmation of the final results. Another | :56:47. | :56:49.
sensational windfall have via Gomez Noya. The head of Jo?o Pereira and | :56:50. | :56:58.
Mario Mola with an excellent seventh position for Adam Bowden of Great | :56:59. | :57:07.
Britain. It is amazing. It was a tough race. Everybody was there | :57:08. | :57:12.
after the bike. I wasn't very fast because I was injured a few weeks | :57:13. | :57:14.
ago. I felt comfortable the first two laps. I gave my best and went as | :57:15. | :57:25.
part as I could in the third. I am training a lot and I feel very good | :57:26. | :57:32.
in Chicago. It is a very hard race and very humid. I am not a good | :57:33. | :57:40.
runner and at the finish I am feeling very good. Javier Gomez at | :57:41. | :57:47.
the top of the standings is rock standing. Jonathan Brownlee is in | :57:48. | :57:54.
third, ahead of Richard Murray Angelo Perera has moved up to fifth. | :57:55. | :57:59.
It is a return to Europe for round six of the competition next month as | :58:00. | :58:05.
hamburg hosts not only men's and women's sprint races, but the mixed | :58:06. | :58:09.
relay world Championships as well. Live coverage begins at 3pm on the | :58:10. | :58:14.
red button on Saturday July the 12th. And at 3:15pm the following | :58:15. | :58:21.
day for the mixed relay. Extended highlights of these events can be | :58:22. | :58:24.
seen on BBC Two on Monday the 4th of July one p.m.. That is it from a | :58:25. | :58:30.
memorable meeting in Chicago which saw a record-breaking went on home | :58:31. | :58:35.
soil for Gwen Jorgensen. We hope you have enjoyed it. Until next time, | :58:36. | :58:40.
good night. -- goodbye. | :58:41. | :58:46. |
