Semi-Final - Liang Wenbo v David Grace UK Snooker Championship

Hello again, here in York's Barbican Centre we are watching the first of

the semifinals of this year's United Kingdom championship. It's not the

line-up anyone would have predicted. Liang Wenbo trying to

become only the third Asian player to make it to the final tomorrow and

David Grace of Yorkshire, world number 81, the lowest ranked player

for 25 years to make it this far in the championship. Liang Wenbo is at

the table now but it is David Grace, the Yorkshire man, who leads the

match 4-2. This is the seventh frame. I will hand you over to Ken

Doherty and Dennis Taylor. If he missed that is exactly what

happened. I said earlier in the frame it was a

huge frame for Liang Wenbo. Heading in the right direction to close the

gap to just one frame. He still moving on the shot a little

bit, so still feeling the pressure out there. It was a bit of an

awkward frame where a lot of the reds got pushed up to the other end

of the table. With a 31-point advantage and still a couple more

the reds available, but that's it and then he's got to move something.

Those two near the yellow spot, the yellow blocking the path for those

into the right corner, the two on the right safe, the one on the left

side question safe, not an easy chance. If he could get the yellow

back on the spot it would open up those two reds on the yellow spot to

the corner pocket. He might be able to get onto those two reds now. He

didn't hit the cue ball hard enough. He might have to go up for

the red on the left of the pink spot.

Unfortunately for Liang Wenbo that has knocked the blue and pink safe

now. But at least he knows he's left the

two reds next to the yellow available now, he did remove the

yellow and get it back onto its spot. He needs a couple more good

pots. No, no. At least it's gone safe for

him this time. Look at the way the reds are.

Amazing. Two, two, two,. I've never seen them in that pattern before.

They say there are never two frames the same. Yes, it's quite unusual.

Just playing a bit of cat and mouse at the moment. Liang Wenbo, because

of his 38 point lead, wants to keep the reds safe. David has got to try

and bring the reds out into open play.

It's just a little bit awkward with the way the reds are at the moment.

In the opening frame we had a bout of safety on the blue, which was

exceptional. It went on for something like 14 minutes just on

the blue. That has brought one of the reds out into the open. Which

David needs. He's looking at that red that David

Porter the right of the pink and blue. It does pot into the left

corner pocket -- that David put to the right. But then they would be no

colour. Maybe he will just try and knock it safe again. But he might

have a go at it, and he did and it is a cracker. That is a bit

special. Terrific shot. Beautiful shot. I think he has a nice angle on

the brown, and he could get on the red below the yellow. The top one of

the two below the yellow pots into the green pocket and he could stun

by the yellow and take the red. Is coming around to take a look.

Putting his finger down. He pointed into the pack with his finger. A bit

unusual. But he took the red on because of the way the other reds

were situated. But it was still a belter of a pot.

43 ahead with 67 remaining. A couple of reds and a couple of browns. That

would be enough. It would leave David Grace needing a snooker. I

thought as he got down to play he could go in-off this. He nearly

did. He almost went in-off the other red.

It's an excellent pot. He will have a look at the score. He's 46 points

ahead. So, red and brown would only be 51 with 51 remaining. He may go

down for the black here, it may be worth going down for the black. He

wants to see if the pink or the blue goes into the bottom hand corner

pocket. He may have an angle just to drop into the middle of the table

and take the pink on. He just moved a little bit again on

the shot. He's doing that quite a lot in this match. There was a lot

of movement. Just watch his body here.

I thought for a second there he was going to have a terrific result, but

he's
