Welcome to Ulster Rugby live, round 12 of the Pro12 and Ulster on their

way to Treviso in Italy. Stephen Ferris joins us today. Tommy Bowe is

here as well. We thought we would make the most of having you with us

since you have plenty of time on your hands will -- what with being

injured. All right lads? The Aussie crew. It passes the boredom of

rehab, I know all Ulster fans like to have an update on your progress,

how is the injury coming on and when will you be back? It is coming on

well. It is a slow process. I would love to be back out there playing,

it is horrible having to watch matches, but that is the injury.

That is the sport we play and you have to deal with it. So far it has

been coming on well. I am getting there and hopefully I will be back

for some rugby later in the season. How important is this next run of

games for Ulster considering the disappointing from exit Europe? It

is massively disappointing for every fan. They have to focus on the

league. Three home games after Treviso away, it is massively

important we get some points on the board. No more, what about next

year, next year could be our year, it is all about top four and the

boys will be trying their best today. They need to make sure of

European qualification. Three matches already this weekend,

Leinster were beaten by the Dragons 23-13 last week. Munster won their

match. Scholars have been beaten as well. That leaves the table looking

like this. Ulster are sixth in the table and in much need of a win

today. If we are to get a win, it will put us in a great position on

the table. We will be hoping to go there, Treviso have had a terrible

run of form, we would be looking to get a bonus point ideally. You look

at our last game, you need to go out looking for the win and hopefully

the tries will roll in. It will be a difficult game. We have reached the

halfway point, Stephen give us your assessment of how Ulster have

performed. I think they have been fairly consistent. The DM we slip

up. Look at the points difference, we are scoring a lot of points and

then we slip up in a game we expect to win, but he said earlier, it is

the next four or five games when the International 's are way, it is a

critical time in the season. The team, they have all the class

players, plenty of young guys coming through and hopefully we will rack

up some points and get the bonus point that everyone wants. One that

young player returning is Stuart Olding, 23 years old, he has had a

terrible time, how pleased are Ulster to see him back playing? I

think everyone, supporters, players, the pure guy, he is such a talent, I

know Joe Schmidt, the Irish management see him as a future

starlet of both teams and to have the start he has had, to injuries,

an elbow injury, a couple of concussions... You would not wish

that start on anyone. Hopefully he shine today. I give. Let us see how

Ulster get it on against attributes of team which has lost 25 games in a

row. Time to join our commentators. Good evening from a rather chilly,

misty and for the Treviso. There are Ulster fans here. There are the

officials. This is a game that Ulster cannot afford to lose,

particularly with Munster winning and Connacht as well. It is not a

bad Treviso side and when you look down their list, there are a lot of

familiar faces and a lot of experience.

They have enjoyed themselves in this brief sojourn here injury so, the

Ulster fans. -- in Treviso. Ulster made three changes, Callum Black is

back and Clive Ross makes his first start of the season. Four changes

behind the scrum including Louis Ludik and Ian Humphreys. I welcome

back for Stuart Olding playing his first game since last March. -- a

welcome. The referee doing his 40th Pro12 game is Ian Davies from Wales

stop Ulster through Ian Humphreys to get this game underway. The last two

games have produced bonus points for Ulster. They struggled in the last

two visits here. The victory is all that matters here for Ulster and

straightaway, Lucchese puts it down and find Louis Ludik. A good start

by Ulster. Marshall. Humphreys. Gilroy in from the left wing, a

little bit of space, but well covered by Hayward. -- Jayden

Hayward. He gave that plenty of height, is anyone chasing? Rory

Scholes is. Good work by Rory Scholes, he needs a few more men in

the wake there. Treviso are on the back foot.

Alberto de Marchi obliges. That is into a bit of space. There is a lot

of space. Plenty of time for Humphreys. The ball is still in

play. Treviso are trying to conjure up, Jayden Hayward again. Well

covered by Gilroy. He kicks. That is a missed queue. A chance for them to

create something, Humphreys sees a huge gap and Stuart Olding is

chasing and we get the first set piece of the afternoon and it is

good afternoon and good evening to Tony McWhirter. Good evening. Plenty

of kicking. A nice little tank from Ian Humphreys. And nice bit of

pressure. Lucchese, one of the few local

players. Santamaria there. Sam Christie gets that away. Lucchese

incorrectly. Good tackling by Ulster. Good work by Alan O'Connor.

Referee play an advantage for the knock forward. Roger Wilson, fast

approaching 200 games for Ulster. 190 97. Ian Humphreys, Stuart

Olding. That is a good strong wrong for the -- youngster playing his

first game in ten months. Ulster have conceded 20 metres, Ricky

Lutton has to keep it. Gilroy. Trying to work that magic with his

feet but he is well marshalled. Here is Paul Marshall. Alan O'Connor

again. Ian Humphreys. Away nicely, he decides to kick. That has been

knocked back word and the referee is happy enough with that from Tommaso

Iannone. That should give Ulster the line-out. Ulster applying all the

early pressure. Darren Cave deciding on the throw, but deciding not to. A

nice early start from Ulster in terms of shape. Alan O'Connor, a

couple of big hits and carries. He has shown some really nice form.

This is where the game will be won or lost. Treviso will fancy

themselves and it is important for Ulster that Rob Herring starts well.

Clive Ross at the back. Stuart Olding. Marshall in peat and there

by age Treviso player who was not getting back onside quickly enough.

Ian Humphreys, Darren Cave with a good little run. Marshall thought

about the cake, nicely popped on. Louis Ludik and the referee decided

that the pass was forward and Ulster concede the first scrum of the

afternoon. There are will maybe be a little bit of suspicion of offside

from Treviso but Ian Humphreys will want a quicker ball than that from

his forwards. It is difficult when the ball is slow to get penetration

from your backline. You see your half-backs trying to creep across

the pitch and outside runners having to run straight. Ian Humphreys saw a

little bit of man and ball coming at the same time. I spoke to Ian Davies

before the game and asked him where he was staying. He said Dennis, and

I said Lucky you -- Venice. The man with the hair there is Bigi.

-- Filo Paulo. There is the Treviso skipper, Alberto Sgarbi. He has a

lot of experience. Santamaria seems to be fine.

It is little bit wobbly. Ian Davies is patient. He blows his whistle. He

will want them to settle a little bit. It is a hefty Treviso front

row. Simone Ragusi there. Alberto de Marchi is in the loosehead side for

Treviso. He had a season with the sale Sharks.

Six minutes gone, no score but all the play has been in the Treviso

half. Down they go again. It collapses on the far side. Something

has gone awry. The answer is no. Well covered by Paul Marshall. The

crowd complaining about something. Marshall does not find his touch,

but Sam Christie, he was outside the 22. Not a bad cake by Craig Gilroy.

Hayward underneath it. Christie did well. That has gone loose. Good work

at the breakdown by the Ulster breakaway back row. I think the

clear instruction from the Ulster management is to play as much

territory and possession and the kicking has been accurate. Craig

Gilroy, a fantastic follow-up. Van der Merwe is putting pressure on the

scrum-half. Nice midfield attacking position from Ulster. Back split on

both sides. Plenty of options for Paul Marshall at scrum-half. Ricky

Lutton on the Ulster tight head side stop he is playing his 41st Ulster

game. That seems to be a problem there. A problem with the Treviso

hooker. Santamaria seems to be having trouble still, with his right

bicep. Good work on the breakdown by Ulster. It was the type forwards who

went on as well and is Roger Wilson, the number eight. Just to bring you

up to date yesterday, in Newport, Leinster played the Dragons. Munster

turned over Zebre. The Scarlets word but in by Connacht. -- where beaten.

Ulster have started in six position which just gets them into Europe.

The first scrum for Ulster, seven minutes gone, no score. Solid enough

from Ulster. Now they get a bit of a squeeze on. Roger Wilson has to take

it forward, Ulster need to get that ball up quicker. Ian Humphreys

decides to keep it low until it into the corner. What happened to the

scrum? Night strike from Rob Herring but the ball was left in the second

row for too long. -- nice strike. Roger Wilson had to dig it out.

Something Ulster have not done well at the base of the scrum, that is

clear and more decisive play from Roger Wilson. I do not think we will

see too much more of Santamaria. He seems to have hurt his right arm.

There are hoping that Santamaria will be fed. -- will be OK.

If he is fit to go, the referee will say continue. Treviso have cut the

numbers that line-out time which gives Ulster the time to line-out

forwards and potentially get a man in the air and try and steal this.

They will be looking for Palmer to Steelers. He did and did it nicely.

Good defence by Ulster will stop good positive defence. Tulisa has

set it up, Lucchese. -- Treviso. Nice touchline kick from Lucchese.

It is BS around Robert Barbieri. He had some unproductive --

unproductive seasons at Leicester Tigers -- it is based around. The

missed here tonight is making the ball pretty dampers, Rob Herring has

to dry off any excess moisture. Good take from van der Merwe. Rory

Scholes in off going. Marshall, Rob Herring, Marshall again. Louis

Ludik, Gilroy outside him. They are into the 22, they need the quicker

ball. Nicely done by Marshall. Sean Reidy steps it up. He has run into

the back row, swallowed up. Treviso have got themselves offside and

despite the tackle I Andrea De Marchi, Ulster

have the penalty. There was a case for Louis Ludik to give the ball to

Craig Gilroy. He decided to hang on iPad and with Gilroy with space

outside. Ulster is showing lots of control, taking time over the ball,

Marshall and Humphreys have started well. Ian Humphreys has scored tries

in two successive games. To give Ulster the first point. That was a

golfer's chip therefrom Ian Humphreys and the crowd are pretty

happy, well the Ulster contingent. Good straightforward strike by Ian

Humphreys. Very good opening ten minutes. All the play has been in

the Treviso half. A lot of picking, but they are looking to get

themselves into the game quickly and effectively. We start from Jayden

Hayward, the 28-year-old New Zealander. Played in his home

country. Also played for Western Force in Australia. He gave that a

wallop. Paul Marshall. He kicked that nicely. Hayward thought about

the quick throw. One part of his game over the past two or three

years has improved massively, we will see him box kicking more. A

fine connection, a fine clearance. He does not look 100%, years not

happy,. It is his bicep or right wrist, years complaining to the

medical staff. Treviso have shortened the line-out. Paolo takes

it well. Lucchese. A bit of a teaser. Well taken by Rory Scholes.

Ulster have plenty of men back. Alan O'Connor. Well tackled by Treviso.

Marshall. Sensibly he kept that infield. Lucchese, wonderful tackle

by Louis Ludik. Openside flanker. The referee has got the hand-out, a

little chip into space, Paul Marshall gathers, get it away to

Gilroy and they will be back for the penalty. Silly and unnecessary

penalty, Treviso clearly won the ball at the back. Clive Ross should

have known better. If the decision had been made to go for the posts,

they have decided not to go for the posts, so Alberto Sgarbi has decided

to go as close to the Ulster line as possible. They would like a few more

metres. We watched him kicking about an hour ago, there was the incident,

the good tackle by Louis load it. Clive Ross seems to be OK there --

Louis Ludik. He could not resist having a little nibble. Hard to

resist a little nibble. It was taken on by 39. Good pressure from Treviso

having conceded the first points -- Lazzaroni. Sam Christie has a little

dummy. Lucchese" plea like a good scrum-half. Hayward, Tom Palmer the

Englishman. Hayward comes back and sides. He runs into another white

jersey, Sean Reidy. Great drive by the Treviso pack. What a fine piece

of defending by Rob Herring's team. A little pick-up and drive it to

suck in a few loose forwards. Marshall and Humphreys. They got

right underneath that. Well gathered in. Treviso have won it again.

Hayward has to stretch. Alberto Sgarbi, the skipper. It is out to

Bacchin. Hayward again. Stopped by Ricky Lutton, the Ulster tight head

prop. Christie gets a bit of web on it. Passes are not too good. The

whole impetus has been checked. Lucchese again looking for a runner,

get set to Filo Paulo. Great tackle once again by Louis Ludik. Tom

Palmer. Nabs by van der Merwe. Clever stuff. Good driving run by

Alberto. Simone Ragusi. It has gone forward and the good Ulster defence

has proved successful. The Ulster defence of coach will be happy with

the shape they are producing. There are staying together, staying

connected. Darren Cave is doing a lot of the organiser -- or

devotional work. Throwing the defender out of the way. Good shape

from the Ulster defence, they are not biting, they are staying

connected, there is organisation, Darren Cave especially. They are

communicating well and that is what good defence is all about. It has

been coming for some time, the starting poker, Santamaria has had

to leave the field that of anxiety about van der Merwe. It's sore

shoulder. -- a sore shoulder. Van der Merwe has signed on for

another year. That has been welcomed by everyone in the Ulster rugby. Not

just his team-mates. That is where he got himself heard. I huge hit

from Tom Palmer. Seemed to come down awkwardly on his shoulder -- he got

himself hit -- a huge hit. He has played a lot of rugby. The

referee seems to be asking the TMO four a little look at something

which has perhaps caught his eye. I am not quite sure what all that was

about. Was there a hand in there? Did someone do something naughty?

They are concentrating on what was going on with van der Merwe and we

might have missed it. Apologies. Did not see too much complaining from

either side. I do not know if it was one of the assistants. He has gone

upstairs. Ian Davis is waiting, I think he has

asked for another view of the incident. The clock has stopped.

Ulster are 3-0 up. They very rarely lose here. Any idea what that is

for? No idea, there was no reaction from

a player either side. Was it the Italian touch judge who spoke to the

referee? It has taken a long time and it is a game that has not

started in many ways. A couple of injuries to the Treviso hooker who

has now on offer. One hold up after another. The referee is coming back

over. No incident with reporting. So we have just waited a long time and

the players have got a bit colder. Roger Wilson has a bit of strapping

and the referee has decided it was a knock-on by the Treviso flanker

Marco Lazzaroni. It is an Ulster scrum. Watch out for Craig Gilroy.

Taking an interesting position. The white half, and their openside. Good

attacking option for Ulster with the Treviso fallback back, they have a

one-man or two man advantage. Interesting to see whether Humphreys

continues the advantage. Against the Treviso front row. Ulster gave run a

bit. Due to some pressure and the penalty goes against Treviso said

they do not have to worry about bringing Craig Gilroy into the

equation and Humphreys will expect to make a decent bit of ground.

Inside the first quarter and it has never really come to life. That is

Ricky Lutton, quite legal and down on one knee. Still in play. Now it

is out of play. A good kick by Treviso. He should have found the

touch. Whenever you win the penalty that, it has to go into touch.

Trying to get more distance for 11th but it kicked on the right-hand side

of the pitch. -- for a left footed kicker. Fine margins winning games

and Ulster should have been further up the field by 50 metres, but still

death row. The replacement hooker Luca Bigi comes on against four

Treviso. Well taken by Conor, the line-up for Ulster working well.

Shaun Reidy has had a couple of games. This Henry's shoulder getting

better but a game or two away from returning. -- Chris Henry. Marshall.

Nicely collected. He took it from Tommaso Iannone. Marshall. A lot of

kicking in this game. Louis Ludik seemed blocked a bit but the referee

was happy the man coming back was not doing anything intentional. Sam

Christie, a big boot on him for a little player. Humphreys, this was

fine touch. Christie keeps it infield. Jayden Hayward keeps it in

glance. Craig Gilroy back in position. Down the line again. He

leaves it for Jayden Hayward. But Mrs by Gilroy. Back inside, Tommaso

Iannone, the pass was forward. The crowd here not happy about that. You

do not often see Craig Elroy wrong-footed like that. We have been

talking about how good the Ulster defensive structure has been but

this surface is sticky underfoot. He got his feet in the wrong position

and Treviso breaking nicely. The referee said play was quite clearly

falls. Ulster have rested on their laurels a bit after the early

penalty I Humphreys. For the last nine or ten minutes, it has been all

Treviso. Ulster lucky to get away with that. At the past been on

target, it was under the post. Difficult for both sides, stop and

start. No team building up a go forward ball or getting tempo into

the game. Nicely put in. It is being worked by Herring. Wilson has to get

it away. They are holding it too long. Marshall on the narrow side,

interesting. He has schools now, a kick to chase. One bounce and into

touch. Rory Scholes. Marshall had to weigh up the options and he may have

taken the right one. It was good defence by Jayden Hayward. Marshall

defence and goes inside. Good communication, he puts himself into

position. He positioned himself between Marshall and Rory Scholes

which would have made the past difficult, Marshall happy to put it

on the foot. The Italians very quick and the right decision from

Marshall. Taken in by Treviso from the throne. By the replacement, Luca

Bigi. -- the throne. Well covered by Rory Scholes. Men outside him,

Ludik. Knocked out of his hand, referee waiting for advantage. A

despairing Treviso hand went out there. Ulster have to be careful not

to get offside. Referee still playing advantage with that knocked

forward. Back in, he gets it away. Not the greatest pass in the world

and it has to go back for the defence. Giving Treviso the scrum.

You mentioned about the moisture and running into contact. It is

important you have the ball in two hands and we'd see Ludik with it

under one arm and technically, that is poor. Well spotted pass by

Treviso to knock it out but keep the ball into hands might realistically.

-- in two hands, realistically. Potential in the Ulster pack. Rory

Best, Chris Henry, Robbie Dyer. De Marchi on the near side four

Treviso. Can Ulster put a squeeze on the opposition here? It looks like

it was down the middle. Treviso moving forward. Davies having a look

and he is penalising Ulster. He has done. The front row creaking a bit.

That is usually the way it goes, you see a team getting a nudge on and

that usually decides any advantage, it is the team going forward usually

eating it from the referee. The ball in the tunnel for a while. Treviso

getting a nudge on and that was enough to make the referee's mind.

The tight-head prop set of Treviso came up, Ferrari, they must have

thought Black was doing that illegally, I thought there was

nothing wrong with that. Treviso in a decent position again. It was all

Ulster in the first 15 minutes and the last ten minutes or so, it has

been all Treviso. This is Luca Bigi. His first season

at the club, playing his seventh league game. He did well. Treviso go

for a second shop and a squeeze on this narrow side. Well taken by

Herring, Ulster's captain. Not offside. Coming back on the Treviso

side. It goes in as a scrum-half. And again, a big tackle from van der

Merwe. An experienced Samoan international. The tackling is

Franco van der Merwe, holding the man up. Nudged forward and great

defence again. It is good defence. Treviso not asking many questions

defensively. Getting a chance to men lying -- blind man up and get them

away. Franco van der Merwe very much a game. The ball comes loose and not

much adventure from Treviso. The line-out has been good. Palmer in

the second row has started well and the change of hooker has not made a

lot of difference. The line-out is sound. They do not have a chance for

a very effective rolling maul away. Six Nations have been played. Franco

van der Merwe and O'Connor have played regularly in the last games

for Ulster, getting down together. A lot of pressure in the Ulster front

row from their opposite numbers. Ulster giving away about ?4 of man

at that is not important, it is the technique. This needs to go in. Good

strike again I Herring. Wilson. Marshall. Humphreys. That is not a

bad kick by Humphreys. Covered back by Jayden Hayward. Humphreys again.

He says he is going to kick that up in the air and somebody has to chase

it and that somebody is Rory Scholes. Well taken. I think that is

an advantage that has been gained from that. Just going to check if

there was an offside or a man in the air who interfered. I do not think

he was interfered with. This is Jayden Hayward. Did he come down? He

did, he had one foot on the ground, I think it is hard to see, Tony. I

do not think that was any intent. Rory Scholes was prepared to let the

man land before he played him. Weaving one foot in the air. I think

it looked worse than it was. The referee has brought back inside

the Ulster half of the field towards the screen at the changing room and

this might tell us better. He was up in the air? Rory Scholes did not lay

a glove on him until one of his feet was on the ground. Another

protesters from another Treviso player. I can see nothing wrong with

that, I wonder how Ian Davies will see that. It was the lack in the air

Jayden Hayward anti-planted it almost over the shoulder of Rory

Scholes. -- the leg. Rory Scholes lost his forward momentum and he

almost ground to a standstill. He was stopped and he did not make

contact until the foot touched the ground, that is my interpretation.

In Davies might see it differently. He is having a word with the Treviso

skipper. Alberto Sgarbi. Did he run into one of his own players, Jayden

Hayward, gaining an accidental offside? That is what I thought was

the case. No penalty given. A scrum has been given and Ian Davies has

split the difference. He has given the scrum to Treviso. 26 minutes

have gone. Still 3-0 and Ulster will be happy if it stays like that. The

first half has been going on for what seems like ages! Three very

long discussions, with a couple of injuries and only three points. The

last two games at the Kingspan Stadium, Ulster have rattled up

bonus point wins. Any winner will be hard to by here. The ball is just

sitting there. Giving it a bit of a nudge. And the referee, is he going

to penalised Ulster again? No. Marshall. And stuff by the Italian

side into the half of Ulster. Picked up nicely by Barbieri again and

passed forward. Frustrating times. The Italian side had been slightly

more inventive. You have to be very capital with Barbieri. It took the

Ulster back row out and left Marshall to deal with them on his

own, not the biggest man in the world. Ulster broke well and good

tackle by Olding. The Treviso player rolls over and accidentally drags it

forward. The correct decision but not liked by the home crowd. Some of

these Treviso players will put it together and I think Ulster have to

be very careful. It Treviso get out in front, it is going to be hard for

Ulster. Assume the position, as they say. Just have a look at the foot

position here. We talk about the Ulster front row and how long in the

lakes he gets. This is his outside leg. You can see how far underneath

he gets. Really good, nice and square at the hips, chases his feet

up underneath. Subsequently given a real platform for Roger Wilson.

Darren Cave. Not a good pass but Marshall did well and lost it.

Sloppy stuff by Ulster. A very good set piece. And they did not handle

the ball very well. As a front row forward getting up and seeing that

going into touch, some cross looks across at their fellow backs.

And instruction to his hooker. Ulster nearly got up there. Sam

Christie, nice flat ball, good defence once again from Ulster and

from Stuart Olding, has that appetite back. A hint of an overlap.

Gilroy did the right thing moving out wide. Alberto de Marchi. Ulster

conceded a penalty, O'Connor LT on the ground. -- guilty. They are

giving a penalty for not releasing the man in the tackle. The penalty

count worryingly high for Ulster. In these last 15 minutes, Treviso have

played all the rugby. Once you accrue a number of penalties in

quick succession, the referee has a fidget for the yellow card in his

pocket. Ulster just need to be careful. Connor did all the

grappling. Whether he released in time, we did not see. That is the

best kick from Jayden Hayward so far and he gets a pat from the skipper,

Sgarbi. They have in this close before but have not scored and

Treviso will hope to put that right. Before half-time. A try for

half-time which just be what they wanted. Luca Bigi, well taken down,

Lucchese. Sam Christie is well tackled. Getting a bit misty here.

De Marchi taking it on again. Not much room on the side but a good

budgeting run by the other de Marchi, but to one macro. If they

move this, they could be in and they have and Ulster get across well.

Still therefore Treviso, looking for the first try of this game. Risky

nearly got through. Good covering tackle by Clive Ross and it might

even have been Ricky Lutton. Referee has a hand for penalty. Drop at

goal. That has not happened and but a penalty for not releasing the

tackle. It might have been Black. They do not get the try. Very

surprised if they do not go for the three points. It is nothing more

than Treviso deserve. They attack the line here and that is how you

pick out weakness. Run between men, not at men, looking for space in

between, to get their hands through to get the turnover and to off-load

away. Ulster have to be careful at the breakdown. They leave too many

and the tackle does not get away quick enough and the referee is

getting onto that. He is going to take this. Jayden Hayward stepping

up, I thought it would be Sam Christie for a minute. It is Jayden

Hayward. That was the drop goal attempt which went wide and which

the referee would have allowed if it went over. Treviso knew they had

this penalty to sway this game. Over half an hour played. Christie gets

right underneath it. A decent kick and it means with 7.5 minutes until

the interval at the Stadio Monigo, it 3-3. In their reflection from my

point of view. Treviso holding their way into this. Barbieri becoming

more prominent. We have seen how well the set piece has been going

and the line at a specially, good platform for their backs. -- the

line-out. Humphreys. That is not good at all. So he failed to find

his touch not that long ago and has put the ball straight into touch,

giving Treviso the advantage. Not what you expect from the

outside-half. He will be hugely disappointed with that. So back to

Treviso, can they do something else before the interval? Treviso. Ulster

disappointed with that. When you give away three points, it is

important not to give the opposition advantage. Treviso well-placed on

both sides. Potentially an overlap on the left so important for Paul

Marshall to defend. Not much competing at the back of the Treviso

scrum and he will try and mark the Treviso outside-half. It has gone a

bit wobbly. They are not going for the penalty, they are going for the

ball. Sgarbi the skipper. It is not forward. Referee playing advantage,

Ulster. Dangerous game played by Ulster. Gilroy on his own and the

referee was the whistle and they have to come back. Not sure what

Ulster were doing, a bit frantic, they need to settle down and get to

half-time on level terms and have a good chat at the interval and come

out all guns blazing. Once that turnover came, you can get two quick

passes away in the space but Ulster were passing to a man not in

position. The surface is not easy for getting away from people. It is

quite sticky and not a fast-track. The ball moves faster than the man

and the pass get there quicker than the man trying to run. Getting

themselves into a bit of bother, Ulster. If they get the right

platform, they could do things this evening. The platform has not been

that good. The line-out is fine, the scrum is creaky and Ulster have not

had ball in hand and nobody is taking on the opposition.

How did Ulster lose that? What was going on between Wilson and

Marshall? Two experienced men. A chance now for the home side to do

something before the interval. 4.5 minutes remaining, still in

possession. The tackle is made by Sean Reidy. Bad scrum by Ulster.

Taken low and accurately by Herring. It was Alan O'Connor. Sam Christie.

Herring has made that tackle and the referee penalises Treviso for going

over the top. No point in Ulster thinking about anything quick, they

have to find their touch. The defending but the set piece is

worrying. The down in communication between Wilson and Marshall and that

should never happen. -- breakdown. The defensive structure has been

strong and we see again Herring leading by example. Set piece work

is exemplary. He does a lot of work around the pitch. Back to the match

last week against Oyonnax, in terms of metres games, he was in the top

four. He is a very clever rugby player. He kept his eye on the sum

-- on the Treviso outside-half Sam Christie and he nailed him.

Herring brings everybody up to the mark. 3.5 minutes until half-time.

It is even. Great take by van der Merwe. That was an absolute

shambles. You might well think that was not forward by Treviso. Ulster

lost their concentration. We have seen six unforced errors, three

penalties. The tide has turned in many ways. After a comfortable. In

the first ten minutes by Ulster, the errors have allowed Treviso to get

back into this game. Van der Merwe catching it well but I do not know

what happened when he brought it down. It came off the shoulder of

Ricky Lutton. A Treviso hand knocked it forward and Ulster have the

scrummage. We were watching the game between the break and Munster and

lamenting it and we have seen nothing better here! Average. The

lack of tempo, there has been to the game and no flow. Plenty of effort

from both sides but I would not say a lot of class, and there is a lack

of accuracy. They have lost only once in 14 or 15 games against

Treviso. It is now Cardiff Blues ten, Edinburgh three.

Three minutes until the interval here at the Stadio Monigo. 3-3.

Marshall starting his 10th game of the season. Now they get it away.

Darren Cave, where is that going? A nice dummy by Olding, a bit of

acceleration. Starting his first game for ten months. Marshall again,

Humphreys. Van der Merwe taking man and ball, of side in the middle of

the park against Treviso, the second time they have done that from his

opposition. The crowd not happy with Ian Davis and Ian Davies will not

care. Looking as if they will concede more points. Ulster.

Definitely because of a Treviso mistake. They have a chance to go

into what they call into the shed three points. I want and have no

complaints. Replacement hooker Luca Bigi is a clear five yards offside.

It was not a Treviso line. Humphreys who started off and 11th

minute penalty, with just over a minute to go until half-time, has a

chance to restore the lead for Ulster and he does just that. He

gives it a nice alt. Treviso three, Ulster six. Ulster looking to get a

clear strategy and do the simple things well at this stage. A minute

to go, they want to go into the half-time break in the lead. And to

catch this ball and to clear their lines. Jayden Hayward. The referee

looked over his shoulder, he spotted a Treviso player of side. Gathered

in by Ludik and he does not make any mistake. That is what you want from

somebody like Louis Ludik, no-nonsense, played into touch. It

is a Treviso line-out with half a minute to go. The Treviso/been

nicely done, good pick-up, but defending by Darren Cave yet again.

somebody. This is Marshall. I do not think he meant to put it there.

Still therefore Treviso. Sgarbi. It may well go into touch and it does

and that is half-time and Ian Davidson blows his whistle. Not the

greatest first half of rugby we have ever seen, two penalties for Ulster

and one for Treviso. 3-6. It certainly has not been a thriller

but on a positive front, Ulster go in front at half-time, Stephen. That

is the only positive from the first half! Not much rugby was played at

the conditions were tough. Both teams struggling to hold onto the

ball, a lot of mistakes and mod cons, hopefully it picks up. But

ahead on the scoreboard and probably taking four bugs. We talked about

bonus points before. Coming away from Treviso with four would be

good. When Ulster travel to Italy, do you in advance think you will be

involved in a game like that, a slugfest? I have been over there on

many occasions like Stephen. Sometimes you get an early score and

things open up and you get a bit of confidence. The Italian teams and

especially Treviso, I have a difficult matches and a couple of

mistakes like what is happening now, the accuracy is not quite what we

want and they get their tails up and get on a roll and you can see

confidence growing. What a terrible run they have been one. They feel

like they are in this game today. Discipline will come into play here.

It will come down to penalties and especially in defence, they have

been good, pretty solid. A missed tackle there but they are working

hard for each other and they have not let them across the line, good

discipline and Ardoyne, a few penalties, that has cost them. --

Treviso. Treviso have lost 25 games. It is

difficult. You can see by one or two missed tackles that is where the

confidence comes. They train every week dreaming that this will be the

week and at home, against Ulster they will be thinking it will be a

tough game but you can see, a few missed tackles gets the confidence

going and it will be a tough second half but I am confident that Les

Kiss will have a tough talk to Ulster. What kind of coach is Les

Kiss when the performance has been like that underscore is so tight? He

is not one to go off the rails. I am sure at times he feels like he would

like to. He looks at the statistics and what is working and what is not

and they need to go back to basics, we need to win our set piece, get

through the phase and run Treviso around the pitch. If we could hold

onto the ball we will find gaps and it is about doing the basics and

working from there. What has been working? Tommy talks about the

basics, they have been throwing the ball around and they have been used

to that, the weather has been good and they probably need to stick it

up the jumper or, get Treviso to get their discipline to come into play.

They have been solid, they need a bigger second-half to get over this

side. Obviously at the breakdown here, Ulster have turned over a

couple of balls and spent a lot of time defending. Treviso probably

have the better first half even though they are down on the

scoreboard. Ulster are working hard. Sean Reidy is targeting the ball

well. It is making Treviso make mistakes and it is good to see. As

someone who likes to get the ball in their hand and does not like not

getting possession, how frustrating is the? I would imagine the backs

are going mad. We have missed a few tackles, but I feel for Stuart

Olding. It is his first game back, I am sure he is delighted to be out

there and playing, but when you are out for ten months, you want to get

the ball in your hand and reassure yourself. I would love to see him

get the ball, he is up against the Treviso captain. He was an

experienced international and it will be difficult. Louis Ludik, Rory

Scholes, they are the sort of people we want to see get the ball into

their hands. Why do you think Ulster have been so inaccurate? When one

air starts, another one click send -- mistake. The game kicked off and

all we were watching was then kick the ball to each other. They were

trying to go wide with wraparound play, Darren Cave trying to get

Marshall. It summed up the first half pretty well. Another turnover,

a bit of miscommunication. The Italians feed off that and they will

be getting confidence and we need to cut those out and how do you do

that? You go back to basics and that is what the coach will be talking

about. Paul Marshall has been in the thick of the action. He feeds off

the pack going forward, finding space, that is the sort of area is

that Marshall loves playing them. With Ruan Pienaar are at it is an

opportunity for Paul to step up and show what he can do. It has been

good and bad for Marshall. We will see how the second-half goals. What

do you think? I was looking at the scrum. Last week was a really fast

game for him. Speaking to a couple of the lads and Paul himself said he

was exhausted afterwards. A really good run and I am sure he

was exhausted afterwards. A really Ruan Pienaar being out and he is

playing well, he needs the pack to give him the ball. I do. It is time

Ulster need to do to try and close this game out? The pack needs to get

on top of Treviso and give Paul and Ian the ball they need to get the

backline moving forward. I want to see Stuart Olding getting N. It all

starts with the pack up front. Famous last words, it can only get

better. Hopefully we can grind out a hard win. We cannot underestimate

how important it is for Ulster to try and get a victory. Absolutely.

You mentioned at the start, if Ulster were to win, if we were to

get five points, we leapfrogged up the table. These are the sort of

games and that if we come put together back-to-back results, we

will see other teams follow. Treviso is a difficult place to go, but I

hope we can come out with a victory. Some good young players may get a

run out. There are a couple of young players, like Lorcan Dow and Jacob

Stockdale. They would be great for them to get an opportunity. They

will not want to empty the bench early but for these young fellows,

there is a lot of talent, these are the games when guys are way with

international duty that they have to be bled in. Hopefully they will get

a chance. I suppose the next 40 minutes can define how Ulster are

going to perform. You're right. We looked at the table, Ulster are

sixth, if they get a good win, they can move up to fourth. If they lose,

the gap gets bigger between them and the top four. We have a few home

games and everyone expects us to win them, but game is vital to get

Ulster on the front foot and keep them going up the table. Who do you

think Ulster will look to most here to show leadership? And think Rob

Herring is leading from the front. He is doing as much as he can, but

the guys need to get their hands on the ball. We have seen Roger Wilson

running at guys and we need front football. They all need to step up

their hand and say the first half was not good enough, we need to

China get the win. You confident about the win? Yes. It will not be

easy. It looks like the weather is not great. Hopefully we can come

Rory Scholes. Nice position, good kick to touch but I think Stephen

Ferris got it right, Ulster have to man up individually and take

ownership of this performance. These sort of games, this game bobs along,

no one really grabbing it by the scruff of the neck and dragging it

along. Certainly the Ulster pack have to try and generate some good

fast football. 29-macro has, on four Treviso

-- Filippetto. Rob Herring makes a strong thumb. Christie tries to move

it wide. A rejuvenated Treviso. Here is half a chance. Ulster have to get

the men across and it Treviso have their tails up. The ball has gone

into touch. What started the second half by the men in green and white

and not by Ulster. Treviso are moving the ball well. Good width in

their attack. Ulster have conceded and they need to use the touchline

as their friend. Comes that comes the risk of a missed tackle. Robert

Barbieri and Alan O'Connor, he does not miss any of those. Well taken by

O'Connor who has been great. Ulster trying to catch Treviso offside.

Marshall. Good chase by Rory Scholes. Forward by Treviso. The

referee plane advantage to Ulster. They could not secure the ball and

Ulster are going to get put into the scrum. He has kicked well all at

genome. Clever play by Rory Scholes, using the back of the referee to get

himself in front of Paul Marshall. The referee does not see him but

then again, he then has the thought of mind to play the man in the air.

He lets him land. Cardiff Blues are beating Edinburgh

10-3. Here at Tulisa with four minutes gone, a couple of penalties

from Humphreys -- Treviso. And Ulster scrum. Marshall reaches for

it. Try game forward. You worry about that communication coming is

Humphreys put Rory Scholes then, good support play from Ulster. Sean

Reidy, Marshall, Humphreys. Bad pass. That was not a good pass by

Humphreys. The referee waved in advantage for Treviso and no

advantage for Treviso. Work is all the slick handling we expect?

Beautiful switch play. We talked about this, it was Rory Scholes. A

fine tackle by Lazzaroni. The basic execution of simple parsers. Put the

ball in front of the man and give him the chance to try and catch it

-- passes. To be as though have made two changes in their front row. --

Treviso. Filippetto is on. This man is only 20 years old.

They have the slight edge and they are trying to squeeze out a penalty.

They managed to do it. That is another penalty that the Ulster

scrum has conceded. Treviso putting up the pressure. Ulster tried to

stab up and as he did that, it was Rob Herring who popped up his head

stop Hayward give it a click. What a kick by Jayden Hayward. Ulster are

ten metres away from their own line and the opposition have got the

throw. Is it going to be the old fashioned throw catch and drive, we

will have to wait and see. That is what the intent will be. Plenty of

target men here, particularly Tom Palmer. Palmer at the back, a good

throw. Nice and accurate. Dated a risk. Ulster Dinky men, Treviso have

the ball, good stuff by the replacement hooker is there an

Ulster man in the way will stop another penalty. If Treviso score

here, Ulster could be in difficulties. Treviso plane with

intent and purpose and the combination of Ulster pressing too

hard, good line-out defence from Ulster. Initially, it was Bigi who

broke off on his own. Suddenly Treviso had a quick ball that they

tried to get wide. The boys in the studio were saying that Ulster

needed to stir well and they have not. They have given away

possession. Put down a couple of bad passes. Jayden Hayward has the

chance to draw the home side level. It means such a lot to the club, if

they could win their first game. It has been a long time.

He took its time but it was certainly worth it. Coming up to

nine minutes gone and it is 6-6. Ulster are playing too much rugby

inside their own 40 metre line. If you do not execute the simple pass,

you're only shooting yourself in the foot. He puts that very long. That

is in my strike by the fullback. Simple exit strategy. It is simple

but very effective. It is something we saw initially, they spent the

first ten minutes putting a lot of ball in the air. On this occasion,

it is Treviso who are trying to get strangled grip on this game. Rob

Herring. Taken by O'Connor and it is good work by Ulster. A lot of bodies

have gone to ground, difficult for Ulster to make progress. Paul

Marshall and asking them to go forward. That is a good drive by the

Ulster forward pack which will put a smile on the face of Alan Clark and

the penalty has been earned. Marshall takes it. Filo Paulo gets

it away. Sean Reidy. Too many people outside him. That gap line has been

filled. Marshall, Humphreys. Into a bit of space and it was all too easy

to defend. It was covered well by Treviso. The Marshall on this

occasion. The advantage of another ten metres. Nice line-out by Ulster

in terms of sucking the defenders then. It is a difficult skill to do

well because potentially all the opposition want to do is drag it

down. You need to get the ball to the back. At the same stage, make

sure you're not obstructing the opposition. Rob Herring has decided

he is going to go for that little bit more. Treviso have a man down, I

do not think he is injured, it is Tom Palmer. Albert Jones. -- Alberto

De Marchi. It was Lazzaroni who worked his way through and give away

the penalty. No real excuse from Ulster. They had plenty of time, Rob

Herring spoke to the forwards and they know what they have to do. You

would imagine they will go for catch and drive. Look out for Craig Gilroy

behind Ian Humphreys. Ulster have looked at this pattern before. It

worked with Rory Scholes. The throw was good, the catch was good, Ulster

looking for the drive forward. The referee has given another penalty.

Ulster is still churning forward, the advantage with the visitors.

Ulster still making headway. Ulster knew the penalty was there. It was

going to be Humphreys, into touch once again. Ulster need to respond

now. Rob Herring giving his forward clear instruction and I am sure he

will go for the same option. He will try to win the ball, set a platform

and tried to squeeze this left or right. It is important from the

perspective of Treviso they do not give away a succession of penalties.

The referee has spoken to Alberto Sgarbi about deliberate penalties

and he is saying any more, I am going for the pocket. Franco Van Der

Merwe. Rob Herring threw the ball to him. Treviso have dropped it again.

Another penalty and Ulster are still moving forward and they may be

looking for the penalty try. The referee has the hand-out for the

penalty. Ulster are only two or three metres away. The referee says

they have the try. All that pressure has paid off and Alan O'Connor, I

think, will be credited with the touchdown. What a good piece of

forward play and all that pressure paid off and Ulster have responded

to the Treviso penalty in the best possible fashion. Great control,

nice throw, simple straight catch. They have the fortitude to stay

together will stop nicely controlled and Paul Marshall directing things

well. Potentially Sean Reidy, that is another try for Sean Reidy.

Ulster back in the lead. This time by five points. Ian Humphreys to

make it seven. 13 minutes gone in the second half. That is a good

strike by Ian Humphreys, just held it up nicely. Well struck by the

Ulsterman. Lovely strike by Ian Humphreys. Again, conditions are

difficult and that will do his confidence a world of good. Two

simple catch and drive efforts worked well but so effective.

Hayward. Down to Craig Gilroy. Just gets outside his 22. Clive Ross

rocked back on his heels but the ball is to the possession of Ulster.

Humphreys directly behind. Taken quickly by Jayden Hayward. Here is

Barbieri. Could not make much of an impression with Leicester Tigers.

Missed tackle by Ulster. Bacchin came away, Treviso are stretching

meals to defence. Clive Ross came across, good covering by Stuart

Olding. His head in the right place. Lucchese. Some Christie. Hayward

into the line -- Sam Christie. Good covering by Callum Black. Filo

Paulo. Taken down around the ankles by Alan O'Connor. Little chip kick

by Christie, perhaps a little bit far and Louis Ludovic said put this

down. Back come Treviso. We are starting to see Roger Wilson come

into his own defensively. Louis Ludik will be happy to see that ball

go over the goal line. There was just enough on it, if it came back

the wrong way, they would have found all sorts of problems.

Forward. Taken by Louis Ludik. Referee waiting for advantage from

Ulster. Marshall gets it away. Humphreys. Dangerous stuff, well

taken. A chance for Ulster. Roger Wilson, good by the number eight.

Support play from Franco van der Merwe. Ulster now inside the Treviso

half. Marshall, Humphreys. Black, nicely done. Scholes, sidestep,

acceleration by Olding. Away goes Olding. Great play by Olding, back

in the side for the first time in ten months. Picked up by Scholes.

Ludik out wide. Must like -- much more like the Ulster of old.

Marshall has a go himself, squeezed underneath a couple of tackles.

Still there for the visitors, Ludik at scrum-half. Cave takes it

forward. Harder and harder now to see in the mist. The shirts moving

towards the Green posts. Marshall gets it away. Humphreys gets away

from one man. Back inside, well taken I Clive Ross. For his first

Ulster try. Marshall into the Open side. If anybody deserves a first

goal, it is Alan O'Connor. Set up nicely for Ludik who gets cluttered.

Still there for Ulster. The referee has a hand-out for a penalty. Taken

on a game by Ross. And by Marshall. Straight through. Darren Cave. The

second try for Ulster. At the end of the third quarter, Ulster now

getting more than a nose in front. That is classic Darren Cave, taking

the line. Stepping off the right foot, coming short. The

communications spot on between him and Marshall. Again, controlled by

Ulster. Sucking up pressure, keeping possession, going through the

phases. That is what they talked about at half-time, building their

way into the game. Clive Ross a game has come into the game with Wilson

in terms of ball carrying. Clever from Cave, the Gypsy King space

between the two defenders and finding a weak shoulder. -- picking

the space. He is always going quickly and the target is very

small. This is Humphreys. Ten points. Ulster now up to 20 points.

It is 6-20 inside the third quarter. Would you like to think that Ulster

could potentially not take their foot of the gas but look at that

four tries? The last ten minutes superb. The coaching team have got

over their message, taken on board by the players. They have taken

collective nose, they have taken pride in measured. And the

performance level is on a different level. This is Black. Andrew Warwick

coming on, the Ulster player. Treviso making a number of changes.

Number 20 is the South African Steyn. The Samoan Simone Ragusi. And

Cherif Traore. So one change by Ulster and three by Treviso. Also

looking to come on is Luke Marshall. Maybe they have decided Olding has

done his bit. This is the price scorer Darren Cave and he has a go

again. Get into the low body position and across the game line.

Marshall looking for somebody in the near side. Craig Gilroy not a lot of

room to operate. Roger Wilson. Humphreys. Cave gives it a bump.

Well gathered in. That is the replacement who takes it forward,

Steyn. Lucchese. Treviso by no means out of this game. Extra man, good

tackle by Cave on the replacement hooker Luca Bigi. Lucchese. Well

driven forward by the other de Marchi. Sam Christie. An overlap,

Ulster have to be careful. Olding threw himself into that tackle, back

on the Treviso side. This is to replacement prop, Cherif Traore.

Lucchese again, Wicca for Treviso. Sgarbi the skipper trying to

galvanise his side. -- quicker. Christie has the past. Good cover by

Ulster and they get the scrum. And good cover by that man, Roger

Wilson, again. He knocks it free. And Humphreys, then Luke Marshall. I

expect we will see him moving into the outside-half position. This

could be very interesting. Olding is coming back for his first game after

a long time and he is now in a pivotal edition. Looking to see

where Ludik goes. Taking a position inside Marshall so we expect him to

run into the outside-half position which he has played before. He can

play anywhere across the back line. Starting to see some glimpses of the

old Olding already, great to see him back. That little acceleration has

eventually led to the try. Darren Cave was very definite. He is going

into the outside-half position. Luke Marshall and Darren Cave together.

Less than 20 minutes to go. Ulster leading by 20-6, two tries already.

And the scrum is much better. Roger Wilson controlling. Marshall, a chip

kick to set up. Is there any room? There seems not to be and Darren

Cave has done a good job, Scholes also. Treviso winning it. Lucchese

looking for a run-off. Palmer. A slow ball, Treviso. Van der Merwe

back onside, Lucchese with a clever kick. Scholes, well taken. Has he

turned it round to make it available? He has. Well done,

Scholes. Olding, K. Marshall. Cave has a go, well tackled and he does

release. Alan O'Connor. Taken by Traore. Ludik in the outside-half

position. Throwing everything into it and having no luck in terms of

line breaking. Andrew Warwick. Treviso not in a rush to get out of

Marshall in there as well. It is knocked forward. I think by Ulster.

And it will be a Treviso scrummage. Another replacement of being made by

Ulster. Alan O'Connor coming off and Peter Browne is coming on.

Replacement everywhere. A good share -- a good shift by him. Set pieces

have stood up well. These guys have not let the side down. The triple

Oxford blue, Ricky Lutton. He and Alan O'Connor have done well and

they deserved that funding. Like wise, Ricky Lutton. Peter Browne is

coming on. He scored a try against Treviso in Belfast in the early

stages of October. Not much for the meagre support here in Treviso to

cheer about this evening. At times, they thought they might produce

something and they still might, still a fair bit to go. Ulster 20-6

to the good. Last time they were here, they were 24-0 up and they won

at 24-22. It is difficult at the Stadio Monigo. They won the last

four but had to fight for each of them. Steady. That is a bit better.

Looking at the scrum of Ulster, Treviso slow to get it away. The

interception. It is going to lead to the try and it is going to be

Scholes yet again with a 30 try for Ulster and that should put the tin

hat on it! The scrum under pressure, is slow ball coming back. Scholes

reading it magnificently. Eatable defence. A lot of credit again to

Darren Cave and the pressure he put on the Treviso midfield centre

Sgarbi. Scholes lead it beautifully. He has a sense like Darren Cave

anti-scores tries for fun. The more he plays for Ulster, the more

comfortable he looks. He was an excellent schoolboy and is now an

excellent professional player. He says, thank you very much indeed.

Darren Cave picked that beautifully. Real pace. All the defender could

see in his face was Darren Cave, never mind the ball. Better to hold

onto that and take the hit rather than flicking one away. Scholes

again reading it superbly in midfield. You see Darren Cave

pushing hard. He leads the spot. Scholes parallel and happy to step

in and take that and nobody is going to catch him from that position.

Having another look at that. Has somebody complained? Treviso behind

their posts waiting for Stuart Olding to take the conversion.

Everybody thought that was a perfectly good try. Not sure what

that was. This is where it started. Treviso trying to get a squeeze and

Ulster shunting them back. This is Lucchese. I do not know what the

problem was. Interference? I cannot see anything wrong. This was the

past. Darren Cave was not offside, he went quickly and made a good hit

and nothing wrong with the contact. The referee has decided there is

nothing wrong with the try and nothing wrong with the conversion by

Olding. The first point by him or Ulster in such a long time. Ulster

leading by a decent margin, 27-6. I suspect the referee thought that

Darren Cave may have been offside because of the way he went up. He

sprinted ten, 15 metres to make the turnover. Lucchese looked offside

but quite clearly, it was not offside. Palmer has gone off the

field and the French born Italian international Jean-Francois

Montauriol has come on. And big congratulations to the Ulster

replacement Lorcan Dow, the weekend of his 21st birthday, he had a party

plans. His France in his house and he hopes to join them later when the

flight gets back to Belfast. So we hope he is not playing while they

wreck the house! So what a good start for the young man.

Congratulations to the university student. Lucchese did well to get

back. Enrico Bacchin goes to scrum-half. Jayden Hayward gets it

away. Steyn, good covering tackle by Luke Marshall. Good tackle once

again by Ulster. It goes loose. The referee says, let's go back to the

initial lock forward. It is a scrum for Ulster and the first set to

peaceful Lorcan Dow as a senior. Outstanding schoolboy and

professional. He has been playing for Queen's University but this is a

big step up. I think he is lead it. He has played his age-group

international rugby. They think highly of him. He has been in the

Ulster Academy with Kieran Campbell for the last couple of years and

certainly at under 20 rugby, he has been outstanding for Ireland and one

would hope he has a great future ahead of him. He is going in the

number eight position. Still called of ten, Edinburgh three. -- Cardiff

ten. Good control by Lorcan Dow.

Marshall. Straight run, the past disrupted, it has gone back word,

another good game by Paul Marshall and here he goes again. Good support

play by the second row replacement, Browne. Now back on the Ulster side

and referee happy to play on and gives a penalty against Treviso for

not releasing in the tackle. Ulster need to steady themselves down.

Olding is equally at home with his left or right foot. This time his

left foot. It bit scruffy but he does find his touch. That was

knocked forward but the flag is up so a Ulster line-up. 40 minutes

remaining, Ulster 21 points ahead at a bonus point would be special. It

could make all the difference to the table at the end of the second day

of this rugby weekend. Ulster clearly need a bonus point. Not the

most elegant kick from Olding, but effective. The goalkeeping on the

left wing. Trying to keep the ball in play, from Tommaso Iannone. James

Ambrosini coming on for Ulster -- Treviso at scrum-half. Lucchese

going off. Ulster winning the line-out. Treviso stormed through,

putting them under a little pressure. Marshall looking for

somebody to take it forward. Gets it in the shape of his skipper lady

macro who always goes forward. Roger Wilson. -- Herring. Good stretch to

Olding and a good pass. Another good pass by Herring. Scholes has given

it a kick. Treviso sit and watch it roll into touch to get the line-out.

Only about 15 metres from their own line. 30 minutes amending. Ulster

happy to play the territory game at this stage. They potentially want to

keep the ball in hand and go through those phases. On this occasion,

Scholes happy to get the ball in. Unfortunately, line-up for Treviso.

A bit of a clump at the front, can Ulster disrupt? That is not great,

scooped him by Treviso. It is getting harder and harder to see

this game. The floodlights are not wonderful and it is getting misty by

the second. Roger Wilson. Treviso have no option but to kick. This is

Gilroy. He puts his foot on the gas. Good stuff by Craig Gilroy. Giving

Ulster great edition. Marshall. Good carried by the younger man, Lorcan

Dow. Marshall again. Olding. Ulster need the ball and they have got it.

Marshall takes it to his right. Andrew Warwick takes it forward.

Marshall again. Ross drives forward and he makes good round, the

replacement tighthead. Darren Cave. Is Dow going to score on his debut?

No, the referee judged the past to be forward. A bit impetuous from

Dow. A bit quick. Would you blame him? Not at all. It is a good line

but he overshoots its likely and the more obvious pass from Darren Cave

was behind which Ulster behind. It break from Gilroy, a pirouette of

the left foot down the touchline. You cannot stress enough to people

at home, the surface of the pitch is very sticky and hard to get pictures

to get acceleration. The Treviso defence could come across and cut

him down. On a bust and hard track, Craig Gilroy could use his twinkling

toes to open up a try scoring opportunity -- basta. The great

players of all time for Ulster giving him a bit of a doubt.

Discriminating today about the players Ulster do not have and the

15 they might have put out with Jared Payne and Andrew Trimble. They

could have started at half-backs with Ruan Pienaar. Rory Best.

Henderson and Chris Henry. Luke Marshall has come on what we are

missing 15. Some missing but in terms of the second half, the first

half is better forgotten, to be honest. Darren Cave gnosis position

at centre, an abundance of riches. You cannot afford to have a bad game

-- an abundance of positions at centre. He has been exemplary in his

central role, after that injury he picked up before Christmas, missing

five or six weeks. Impressed again with Roger Wilson, he shows his

experience, he has led well and been defensively sound. He has taken on

Barbieri completely. We should see before the end of the game and new

face to this level of rugby, Jacob Stockdale, the Ulster replacement.

In the meantime, every placement in the Treviso back division. Andrea

Pratichetti. And going off, it it is Enrico Bacchin. The referee bringing

them together again. The game has died a bit but Ulster can entertain

serious hopes of a bonus point. They have ten minutes but they have to

get as ashen and at the moment, the possession is with the men in Green,

Treviso. An unfortunate run -- possession. And the losses look set

to continue. Treviso will empathise. But they will not be at all sorry.

Replacement scrum-half, James Ambrosini. That is a good scrum by

Ulster. Another chance. Olding had a go himself. Marshall. Set it up to

Peter Browne, looking for a second try against this side. Ulster

getting ever closer. They move in fields to give options on both

sides. Good drive forward by Herring the skipper. Marshall trying to get

organised. Ulster go again. Ross looking for his Ulster try. Good

defending by Treviso but Ulster winning the ball. Surely the bonus

point is there for the taking? Marshall has a go. The referee

watching, not across the line yet. A great chance for Ulster. Olding and

I think he has got it down. The referee has given the try. Bonus

point try. And what a return! What a return to play from Stuart Olding.

Clever play. We talked about the simple basics done well. Secure

possession, squeeze the ball back. Olding sees the gap and he goes for

it and he has the strength and the patience to let momentum take over

and that is a bonus point try for Ulster. At half-time, we did not see

that coming, at the second half has been a different performance. And

one that Less Kiss will be very happy about. Olding got to score

himself. A great return to representative rugby. And now

attempting a conversion as Ulster bring on a couple more replacements.

David Shanahan should come on soon. Olding. He scoffed at that, we will

forgive him a first missed kick. Four tries for Ulster and five

points. Eight minutes remaining. A thoroughly good day at the office.

The first half infinitely forgettable, second-half memorable.

Superb and that performance has given the chance to guys like Dow

and Jacob Stockdale to get game time and I cannot stress how much this is

an experience for them in terms of the ballot. And those plays in the

Academy, to make that step up. That is young Jacob Stockdale. He has

gathered well. A couple of years ago, he was the player of the at his

high score. Winning his first Irish cap. A clever kick. That is giving

Treviso possession. They bring a lot of of colour and passion to their

support all round Europe. And elsewhere. David Shanahan desperate

to get on for the last five minutes. Paul Marshall is going to come off.

And the under 20 international David Shanahan takes to the field.

Marshall leaves the field. Another very good field. He was very good

last week and again this week. He has had better play to work with and

it has been his service at number nine that has opened up try scoring

opportunities for Ulster. Aggro to will throw everything at this. --

Treviso. Not a bad kick but Scholes does not that, it goes into touch

for a Ulster line-out. 6.5 minutes remaining. Leinster losing last

night to the Dragons. Convert turning over the Scarlets and

getting a bonus point win. It is Cardiff Blues ten, and Edinburgh

three. That is well taken by big Peter Browne. A couple of handy men.

That is the replacement David Shanahan saying, give me the ball

any time. They held onto it a bit too long and a bit of pressure with

the kick. It is knocked down. Treviso driving forward. Cherif

Traore knocked back by a tackle by Browne. Great defending by the

second row replacement. Did he change his mind about the past? Well

taken by Ulster, Treviso still looking for what would be the

archetypal consolation try. Here they go again. And he was assuming

there would be a player out there but you do not assume anything at

this level. Nobody on this occasion for Treviso. And structured defence

by Ulster. Ludik and Scholes defending the blindside. Scholes

makes the tackle but nobody at home on the left wing. What a tackle by

Scholes on the man about three times the size. Ludik covering anyway.

Ulster win the line-out five metres from their own line and that is a

good enthusiast did Ulster forward drive. That takes away confidence

and strength. Desperate to get the ball, David Shanahan. They do not

seem to want to give it to him, he is shut out completely, not doing

him any favours. That is a lack of communication. Now he kicks it. Not

a bad kick, he does not find his truck show. A chance for Treviso to

counterattack and my word they are counterattacking! -- find his touch.

Ulster determined not to have the line across. Four more minutes.

Referee saying the penalty. Jacob Stockdale is six foot four and he

gathers well under a little bit of pressure from Tommaso Iannone at the

penalty has gone against Ulster. Wait to see players like Dow and

Jacob Stockdale play for this Ulster side. It will give them a huge

boost. I always thought he was a special talent. And he is a big

specimen. I think more importantly it is essential. Irish drug in the

way it is has to be organic and create its own players. -- Irish

rugby. In the modern-day game, money does not grow on trees. With the

policy on overseas players they can sign, you must produce from within.

Another couple of announcements in the not too distant future. One

involving a very high-profile Southern hemisphere back row

forward. And since on a postcard, please. Treviso looking for the

score. They have taken it in. On the second attempt. Jean-Francois

Montauriol has his hand out. Is he giving another penalty? They have

got the try. Right at the end of the game, they do manage to squeeze

over. And it is the replacement back row forward, Steyn, across the

Ulster line. A bit of respectability. Ulster disappointed

with that but that does not matter in the great scheme of things and

they have once -- long since scored the bonus point. Beautifully

manufactured by Treviso. The driving maul has been a source of comfort.

Swinging gets down the blindside and he had the control and the foresight

to see the space opening up and happy to get it over the line.

Humphreys pain a bit of attention to the try scorer. -- paying a bit of

attention. This is Jayden Hayward. He has gone underneath that to come

in. A very good kick from Hayward, he struck that beautifully. So a try

right at the end for Treviso. It has come too late to make a difference

to the outcome of the game or make any difference to the fact that

Ulster will go home with the maximum points. They need a win like this,

Dragons to come next week who have already turned over Leinster.

Restart from Stuart Olding, not forward. Rattery plain advantage.

Franco Van Der Merwe moving it on. Luke Marshall, Stuart Olding, nice

pass will stop that is a good pass from the young man. Luke Marshall

back inside to Jacob Stockdale. Spilled forward, the referee has

played ultimate advantage. What are Treviso going to do? Either going to

be adventurous? I think so. Andrew gets across and to make the tackle.

Another tackle this time by Lorcan Dow. Stockdale is back in position,

read it nicely. Hayward again. No way through. Good work eventually by

Ulster and Bronson Ross the replacement tight head. We are now

in what we call over time, the 80 minutes have been played and the

game is in the bag. Can Ulster do something? They will not care as

long as they do not concede anything more. Filo Paulo against his old

team. He spent most of his time in recent years with the Cardiff Blues.

Ambrosini. Wonderful tackle by Rory Scholes. Shanahan steps back and

let's it develop. That should be game over and Ulster have after a

mediocre opening 40 minutes have put in a decent shift in the second half

of this game and they have won this with five points. Five points is

essential and also, given it is 6 Nations time, no injuries and Les

Kiss and his team will be delighted about that. Job done for Ulster. It

is 32-13 to Ulster. Stephen Ferris and Tommy Bowe are with us. An

excellent victory. Brilliant. A few more smiles on the faces in the

studio. Good second-half performance. Very professional. The

boys can be proud of that and will go home happy. How important is

patience, just to be patient and the win will come? That showed in the

first try. The forwards got into it, we got a rumble on to score a

driving maul to show what we were talking about. Back to basics. Put

Treviso on the back foot. Excellent start to the second half. You could

see that the rest of the players said off it. You said that the

Ulster forwards needed to get a stranglehold on the game, that is

exactly what they did. They kept it tight, are really good setup, the

boys are working extremely hard at the front, they are all working

together in unison and Paul is tracking the boys well and they are

taking 30 or 40 metres until they get another penalty and as Tommy

says, it sets the tone early on. It probably would have been a penalty

try if they had not got over because there were so many penalties being

conceded but really strong work and set the tone for the rest of the

second half. Winning can be all about confidence and when you're in

a game and it has been frustrating, how much confidence do something

like that give you? It is confidence, momentum, momentum is a

huge thing in rugby and you can see in the first half how Treviso were

forcing Ulster into mistakes. The momentum was with Treviso and they

were feeling confident, second-half, to get a driving maul to set up the

try and another to score a try, it changes everything and the players

speed off that. Treviso start to string a little bit and I think that

the defence, even in the Ulster try, you could see Ulster getting off the

line, there was a bit more impetus and excitement and that is the sort

of thing, momentum, confidence breeds. As soon as Treviso go down,

they have lost the last 25 games, they see the doubt is there and

Ulster just got on top of them. Ulster took a vantage with two

excellent tries in quick succession. They did, they started to throw the

ball better, patience, guys getting around the corner, working hard,

Paul is dropping guys off there. Of course, Darren comes out of the

rack, works hard, one more phase, straight through the gap and Darren

Cave is good at that. It is something we work out so much and in

this zone of the pitch, when you come down to the opposition 22, you

need points, sometimes it is slow and it looks like you're going

nowhere but it takes someone by Clive Ross to get over the line, to

get them on the back foot. Then Darren Cave, super line, then him

and Paul Marshall work well. Super line by Darren Cave and he was

instrumental in the next one with the rushed defence. Rory Scholes

picked the ball up and he is on fire, he is scoring a lot of tries,

Darren came up in defence, working as a unit, the backline working

well, in for another try. The young man impressed.

What about Stuart Olding? A dream comeback. We were talking about him

maybe putting one of the other lads away, it is wanted to get onto the

scoresheet, an opportunity there to give it to Craig Gilroy and he

probably would have been walking in. There are two men outside him and he

got over the line, got the ball down and another five points. For me, I

love watching him when he is playing in the centre. He did a great job

and he will be delighted with his own performance. It is a huge

confidence builder, coming back from an injury, it is a horrible injury.

You have the seeds of doubt in your mind and those times when you're on

the physio bed, to come out of your first game, he scored last week for

the 18, you could see he was hungry and wanted to get his hands on the

ball and he will be delighted. It gives Les Kiss options. He is a very

versatile player. This is what he is all about, that little chain, left

foot step, he does have pace, he was working hard with strength

conditioning staff, he has to turn a pace really good. No stupid 50-50

is, get the boys going forward again and that is what I love watching

when Stuart Olding is on the pitch. Final thoughts, confidence booster

going into busy period. They will be very happy to come away with the

win, with five points definitely, there have been a few occasions, the

last couple of away games where we have not pulled out a performance in

the first half, it is something we look at. We went away to Italy, it

is a difficult place to go, got maximum points and we are slowly

climbing up the table. Time to turn our attentions to the 6 Nations

Championship which kicks off next weekend. These are Aaron and's

fixtures. First up, a home game against Wales with those tricky away

games followed by Italy and Scotland at home. How confident are you about

the chances for Ireland of making it three in a row? Everyone probably

wrote them off last year, when Paul O'Connell, sorry Brian O'Driscoll

retired, but you are right Ireland off at your peril. I'm expecting a

bit of a backlash for England, disappointment, but Joe always seems

to get a good squad on the pitch and they work hard for him. They are

always there or thereabouts. It must be frustrating for you not been part

of it all? Of course. Watching Ulster today, watching the 6 Nations

the next couple of months, it is horrible and as a player I'm a

terrible spectator. I want to be up there, I want to play and injury, it

is a difficult part of the sport. When I get myself back out there

which I hopefully will be part of some rugby towards the end of the

season, I will be busting to try and get back into the Ulster team. There

is a summer tour to look forward to. Hopefully we will be third time 6

Nations champions going into that. How do you think I felt about last

year? Stephen did you see a debutant straight into the starting line-up?

I could. If I was picking the back row, I would deathly have him in

there. He has been probably the best back-row forward in Europe. He has

single-handedly won Munster games and he is a real test of the

breakdown. His ball carrying ability, I love watching him with

ball in hand. So abrasive and strong. That is what Ireland are

missing. How big a deal is set to make do debut in a 6 Nations

gameplaying for your country? I think 6 Nations is the pinnacle of

the sport, it is probably in my opinion, the best rugby competition

in the world the matches are so tight, the games are nailbiter is.

It would be a huge challenge friend to go in there. I think the quality

he has shown, he does have the quality, he is an excellent leader,

an excellent player, I think if he was one man to go into the Irish

team for his first cap, he would relish the opportunity. If Ireland

are to win the 6 Nations Championship, name me one player you

think needs to have a big Championship? Sean O'Brien. I

suppose he will be looking at his own game and thinking he has been

quiet over the last year or 18 months. He had his own injury

problems. If he plays well, Aaron and usually play well and you talk

about ball-carriers, I love watching him. Ball transfer, people do not

see this, it is all the silky skills he has. I'm looking forward to see

him play against Wales. He reminds us of someone. He is an amazing

ball-carrier. Ireland needed to win by a large amount against Scotland.

It was going to be tough, but he led from the front and Ireland won the

traffic. Thank you very much. Cardiff ten, Edinburgh three is a

full-time score. Ulster will move up into a play-off position, they have

taken themselves up to fourth in the table after that bonus point victory
