chill upon your neck. I am the conundrum. | :00:16. | :00:51.
COMMENTATOR: He is under threat. It was good, but Shaun White has missed | :00:52. | :01:13.
out on a medal. Taku Hiraoka is ready for Japan. Into the front | :01:14. | :01:20.
double 10... Oh! A huge double, absolutely perfect. And that was | :01:21. | :01:25.
massive! I am standing up! Oh, he has put it so clean. What a | :01:26. | :01:31.
run! CLAIRE BALDING: Tell you what, they | :01:32. | :01:46.
ought to rename it the full pike because they don't do things by | :01:47. | :01:49.
halves. Today we will see the women dropping to technical snowboarding. | :01:50. | :01:54.
Welcome to a highlights programme, one hour-long where we will show you | :01:55. | :01:58.
the best of the chat, reaction and chat as well. The serious side and a | :01:59. | :02:02.
bit of fun because that is what the Winter Olympics is all about. Coming | :02:03. | :02:04.
up... The queens of speed hit the | :02:05. | :02:18.
downhill... Could skater Shani Seals super | :02:19. | :02:40.
skater status? And it was double trouble in the luge. | :02:41. | :02:49.
And also on the show tonight, we will be catching up with our curlers | :02:50. | :02:55.
and bring you up to date with the social media, Ollie Williams will be | :02:56. | :02:59.
with us once again. It has been a hot day by the Black Sea today but I | :03:00. | :03:03.
am well aware of how dreadful the weather is at home and just to say | :03:04. | :03:06.
that we are thinking of you and we know that in some areas in | :03:07. | :03:10.
particular, it is absolutely horrendous. We will show you first | :03:11. | :03:13.
of all the women's halfpipe action. The USA, have not come away with a | :03:14. | :03:24.
medal and they had some strong contenders, with former Olympic | :03:25. | :03:31.
medallists, how did they get on? We will show you later on with a guide | :03:32. | :03:34.
to the terminology you will need to know for the halfpipe. | :03:35. | :03:41.
With its origins in skateboarding, the halfpipe is a chance for | :03:42. | :03:48.
competitors to put on a real show. From the start gate, riders drop | :03:49. | :03:52.
into the pipe using the curved transition of the wall to gain some | :03:53. | :03:58.
speed. Competitors leave the lip of the pipe to perform rotations and | :03:59. | :04:02.
flips in the air. If combine, they are known as corkscrew spins or | :04:03. | :04:08.
corks. The top riders will be attempting triple core spins. The | :04:09. | :04:11.
competition consists of three phases. Heaps, semifinals and a | :04:12. | :04:16.
final. Each rider has two runs per phase and only their best score | :04:17. | :04:21.
counts. American Shaun White is the king of the snowboard halfpipe | :04:22. | :04:25.
having won gold medals in 2006 and 2010. | :04:26. | :04:27.
COMMENTATOR: That is mind blowing! Silver medallist in 2010, dropping | :04:28. | :04:36.
in with plenty of speed. You really have got to have your | :04:37. | :05:12.
legs turned on in this halfpipe tonight. | :05:13. | :05:18.
Two 720s. A very big run from Hannah Teeter. | :05:19. | :05:29.
Three riders left to drop after Hannah. And judging by what we have | :05:30. | :05:37.
seen so far, we are looking at the beginning of the business end of | :05:38. | :05:44.
this halfpipe final. She didn't grab it properly there, at the back of | :05:45. | :05:51.
the binding. First place for Hannah Teter. It is the reigning Olympic | :05:52. | :05:59.
champion, Australia's Torah Bright having come back that injury. She | :06:00. | :06:04.
absolutely loves her snowboarding, she enjoys it so much. She decided | :06:05. | :06:09.
that she would test herself. And she has entered three disciplines. She | :06:10. | :06:17.
came seventh in slopestyle. She blew a kiss to the volunteers at the | :06:18. | :06:22.
top, that is how nice she is. This is going to get technical. We have | :06:23. | :06:27.
not seen that on the first time! She didn't bail out but she couldn't | :06:28. | :06:48.
control it there. Such a shame. These women are struggling with the | :06:49. | :06:51.
pipe now. We are on the same page that we were last night, the riders | :06:52. | :06:55.
who hadn't gone through the semifinals are now riding a | :06:56. | :06:58.
different pipe to the women they were riding in qualifying for the | :06:59. | :07:01.
obvious, they have had training but under pressure... Let's see that | :07:02. | :07:08.
twist, look at this. If she goes home without a medal, it doesn't | :07:09. | :07:12.
matter because you can take a still grab from base and update her | :07:13. | :07:15.
Facebook profile picture because that was amazing. Unfamiliar | :07:16. | :07:22.
territory for the Australian, down in eighth position. Now, Kelly | :07:23. | :07:28.
Clark, Gold medallist in 2002, bronze medallist in 2010. We'll see | :07:29. | :07:33.
her go absolutely massive on this first hit. She has gone for the | :07:34. | :07:39.
front side air first hit. The only girl with a big 1080 in her | :07:40. | :07:41.
repertoire. She landed that not cleanly but it | :07:42. | :07:53.
was so big. Oh, no! Kelly Clark has fallen down at exactly the same | :07:54. | :07:57.
point as Torah Bright. You wonder if there is a bit of aching in the pipe | :07:58. | :08:02.
wall there because it is not like these riders, they are so talented. | :08:03. | :08:09.
They are not going down easily. She is devastated, as he would be. Both | :08:10. | :08:14.
had great practices, they both rode really well in practice and maybe | :08:15. | :08:20.
there is something in the pipe, maybe it is churned up. You can see | :08:21. | :08:24.
how much the boards are chattering along this snow, it is not a smooth | :08:25. | :08:25.
run for the gills. -- for the girls. So Hannah Teter in first place, | :08:26. | :08:44.
Barrington in second. -- Farrington. | :08:45. | :09:00.
Kelly Clark is not used to being in 10th. And now it is Caitlin | :09:01. | :09:15.
Farrington -- Kaitlyn Farrington. She had a fantastic run and I were | :09:16. | :09:19.
speculating that it was a great technical run she laid down but she | :09:20. | :09:24.
did not have the amplitude. She proved me very wrong with the first | :09:25. | :09:28.
run. Where will she improve on it? She needs to do it again. Get the | :09:29. | :09:34.
grabs a bit cleaner. Get some good solid grabs and show the judges that | :09:35. | :09:39.
she is in control but you talk about people seizing the moment, all of a | :09:40. | :09:45.
sudden she is topping the leaderboard. | :09:46. | :10:01.
A difficult trick to pull in the middle of the pipe because you kill | :10:02. | :10:04.
so much speed. Not as much amplitude on the second | :10:05. | :10:18.
trick. She seemed to carry rather than put the board directly up the | :10:19. | :10:23.
pipe to shoot out the top of it, she has traversed and gone down the pipe | :10:24. | :10:27.
and gone with it. The final trick here. Neither of the top true tricks | :10:28. | :10:39.
yet. 91.75, unbelievable! Maybe it was the bigger air to start with? | :10:40. | :10:46.
Hannah Teter is currently sat in silver. She is an Olympic veteran | :10:47. | :10:57.
from tiering and Vancouver. -- from Turin. She knows what it means to | :10:58. | :11:02.
get a gold medal. Can she pull it out of the bag here? This is key. | :11:03. | :11:08.
She has done it the right way, put her score on the board that she is | :11:09. | :11:12.
going out to prove it, that is exactly what Kaitlyn Farrington has | :11:13. | :11:18.
done as well, put her score on the board and then improved it. But | :11:19. | :11:22.
Kaitlyn Farrington has now put the pressure on everybody else. | :11:23. | :11:35.
Oh, she's gone... So it will not be gold for Hannah Teter in 2014. Will | :11:36. | :11:47.
she be able to add another silver medal to her collection though? | :11:48. | :11:52.
Three riders left to drop who will determine that and her fate is out | :11:53. | :11:56.
of her hands now. A stale fish grab invented by Tony | :11:57. | :12:07.
Hawk, the grab on the heel hedge on the back, over rotates... It is like | :12:08. | :12:14.
her legs gave up and whether that is... These girls are serious | :12:15. | :12:18.
athletes, I don't think it was a case of weak legs there. We have | :12:19. | :12:26.
seen that flatter landings survived. She just got a love in the pipe so | :12:27. | :12:29.
26.75. Torah Bright is ready to drop, the | :12:30. | :12:40.
reigning Olympic champion. Disappointing run before, she has | :12:41. | :12:43.
been in this position before, she won with her second run before and | :12:44. | :12:51.
we are asking, can she do it again? Her brother, very vocal about the | :12:52. | :12:54.
condition of this halfpipe, a big slam in training two days ago. | :12:55. | :13:00.
Overcome that though, and she is so tough. You don't get to this level | :13:01. | :13:06.
of the game without taking some meaty slams. She has had more than | :13:07. | :13:11.
her fair share. And she has got a smile that can bring about world | :13:12. | :13:12.
peace. Absolutely massive, landed at the | :13:13. | :13:28.
top of the transition, it was perfect. | :13:29. | :13:32.
How did she hold of two that? -- hold onto that? | :13:33. | :13:44.
Backside radio... Yes! And she held onto it, that was a beautiful run. | :13:45. | :13:51.
That was brilliant from the Australian. That has got it all. | :13:52. | :13:59.
Absolutely stunning. It is big, clean and its technical. And really | :14:00. | :14:06.
stylish. We said in the semifinals, how Torah Bright, she rides like a | :14:07. | :14:12.
girl, she is feminine, she looks nice, that may be wrong to say but | :14:13. | :14:18.
look how happy she is. If you are talking jeopardy points, that is as | :14:19. | :14:22.
good as ten in my eyes. That is absolutely massive. We thought it | :14:23. | :14:29.
might go wrong, she was fighting for the last 180 degrees of rotation. At | :14:30. | :14:34.
act merely dislocated, how did she land that? And then the outside | :14:35. | :14:42.
rodeo alley oop. She lands that perfectly. 91.5! She is a quarter of | :14:43. | :14:51.
a point short of Kaitlyn Farrington! It is a cruel world. I | :14:52. | :14:57.
am not sure I agree with that. I don't, really. That was a much | :14:58. | :15:01.
cleaner run and Kaitlyn Farrington and just as technical. She | :15:02. | :15:06.
commiserate is with the competitor knocked out of the bronze medal | :15:07. | :15:09.
position. So Torah Bright is in silver, Hannah Teter in bronze, | :15:10. | :15:14.
Kaitlyn Farrington still with the golden medal position but this | :15:15. | :15:20.
woman, the most experienced female halfpipe competitor in the world. 18 | :15:21. | :15:26.
years old when she won her first gold in such laxity in 2002, -- in | :15:27. | :15:37.
Salt Lake City in 2002. In Vancouver, she took bronze. They are | :15:38. | :15:42.
looking at the big screen and had spotted themselves and sitting on | :15:43. | :15:47.
podium there, the last person in the world that you would want to come | :15:48. | :15:57.
down would be Kelly Clark! Here we go. This is it. | :15:58. | :16:12.
-- backside air. This goes to show how friendly the girls are. They | :16:13. | :16:45.
have been broken off. They have taken so many big hits in their | :16:46. | :16:51.
careers. They respect each other's riding. I don't think that would be | :16:52. | :16:59.
enough. We saw Torah Bright not far off that. She gets the grab here. | :17:00. | :17:11.
She doesn't get all the rich -- she doesn't get all the way round. She | :17:12. | :17:20.
lands a bit flat and then turns it round. She still recovers but still | :17:21. | :17:34.
makes the 720. There is no one else doing this. It is a huge trick. It | :17:35. | :17:50.
was as big as Torah Bright. Another bronze medal for Kelly Clark. Hannah | :17:51. | :17:55.
Teter is bumps of the podium. Kaitlyn Farrington will take gold at | :17:56. | :18:05.
her first ever Olympics. She takes gold and the top spot in a half pike | :18:06. | :18:20.
-- halfpipe competition. Hannah Teter is in fourth place. The | :18:21. | :18:27.
Japanese will be so pleased. How did it go for you? You through it all on | :18:28. | :18:33.
the line and it paid for you. I had the run that I wanted to do and I | :18:34. | :18:38.
came out of my first round. For my second, I knew I had to clean it up | :18:39. | :18:42.
a little bit. You didn't look nervous under pressure. I got the | :18:43. | :18:51.
nerves out during qualifiers. I was able to ride to the semifinals and | :18:52. | :18:57.
it was extra practice for me. I felt really confident going into the | :18:58. | :18:58.
final. Kaitlyn Farrington is only 23. She | :18:59. | :19:11.
was raised in Idaho and first went skiing at three years old. We are | :19:12. | :19:18.
going to go back live now to the extreme Park. Ed Leigh is there. | :19:19. | :19:25.
What a brilliant gold medal for her. I know you feel Torah Bright was | :19:26. | :19:32.
hard done by in terms of the judging. There was only a quarter of | :19:33. | :19:38.
a point separating them. Kaitlyn Farrington on the first two jumps | :19:39. | :19:44.
that she did, there were technical jumps but they were not back clean | :19:45. | :19:49.
and high. You compare that to Torah Bright and she carries so much speed | :19:50. | :19:54.
in the. These first two macro hits are huge. She said in an interview | :19:55. | :20:04.
that it wasn't as cleaner she can go. There was a couple of mistakes | :20:05. | :20:08.
there and she is going huge through this whole run. You compare that to | :20:09. | :20:17.
Kaitlyn Farrington and she did have some technical tricks but Kaitlyn | :20:18. | :20:20.
Farrington doesn't have the same amplitude. | :20:21. | :20:25.
Torah Bright has the whole package. Kaitlyn Farrington doesn't have the | :20:26. | :20:40.
same height. Controversial judging. On the men, Shaun White without a | :20:41. | :20:44.
medal. I know he was asked if he would be competing and it sound -- | :20:45. | :20:52.
competing in 2018 and it sounded like he might be. Are there new | :20:53. | :20:57.
stars on the block or is it a shame that Shaun White wasn't there in the | :20:58. | :20:59.
medals? Shaun White has got to the size now | :21:00. | :21:12.
where he is almost a brand. It was a victory where we have seen this new | :21:13. | :21:17.
talent emerging. It was a fantastic story overall and it is good | :21:18. | :21:21.
practice for Shaun White to start losing because he might have to get | :21:22. | :21:29.
used to it. It will be interesting to see how he uses it as motivation. | :21:30. | :21:34.
Here is what is still to come between now and 8pm. | :21:35. | :21:47.
We are curling with Britain's men and women. Doubling up in the luge. | :21:48. | :22:09.
And we follow a skating legend going for a trouble. -- treble. There is | :22:10. | :22:25.
lots to show you but on Sunday morning I headed up the mountain to | :22:26. | :22:30.
watch the men's downhill and it is extraordinary to see the spade that | :22:31. | :22:35.
they travel at. Today was the women's downhill and Amy Williams | :22:36. | :22:39.
got to see a bit of Alpine skiing history. There is so many parallels | :22:40. | :22:46.
between skeleton and downhill. Speed, adrenaline, danger. Mindsets, | :22:47. | :22:55.
focus, one way down with them optimal line. Mistakes cost time or | :22:56. | :23:04.
worse. So many parallels. Time to compare notes. There are definite | :23:05. | :23:19.
parallels. You need to have a fast-moving brain and a relaxed body | :23:20. | :23:24.
while you are doing that. Visualisation is the key so you have | :23:25. | :23:28.
the right mental mindset before you push out of the start gate. It is | :23:29. | :23:33.
picking the right line on the racetrack. We have a lot of training | :23:34. | :23:37.
runs to get in before the downhill. We have to make sure we know exactly | :23:38. | :23:43.
where we are going at each point and visualisation is so important. We do | :23:44. | :23:49.
it at the top and the bottom. Psychology, the fear that is in your | :23:50. | :23:55.
head. For us, that visualisation and working with the psychologist is | :23:56. | :24:01.
important. Working on conquering fear is a key to downhill. Everyone | :24:02. | :24:06.
feels fear. You will be crazy if you didn't but it is about how to ignore | :24:07. | :24:11.
that fear and park it somewhere in the back of your head and do your | :24:12. | :24:18.
race anyway. Before the start, each competitor is at the top. I know | :24:19. | :24:23.
what that feels like. It is your turn to perform and do everything | :24:24. | :24:27.
you have done in your training. For years and years, it comes down to | :24:28. | :24:32.
this single run. Getting that speed and allowing it to become your | :24:33. | :24:36.
friend, giving it your all must be an amazing feeling. | :24:37. | :24:46.
It could be a good number for her today. She sets the pace. 1:41.94 | :24:47. | :25:00.
seconds. First and only French racer in the competition today. Marie | :25:01. | :25:04.
Marchand-Arvier. Gosh, she is down. Remarkably, she is back on her skis. | :25:05. | :25:24.
The second Swiss racer to tackle the Olympic course. | :25:25. | :25:35.
She is certainly flying at the top here. Dominique Gisin. She is just | :25:36. | :25:46.
back. She will know exactly how the | :25:47. | :25:56.
courses running. A little bit late in the line. | :25:57. | :26:07.
Getting that hip inside the turn. She takes that well. Fastest in | :26:08. | :26:17.
training run number three. Into the final pitch. Lots of noise from the | :26:18. | :26:20.
Swiss fans as the cow bells ring. She has it. Daniela Merighetti, the | :26:21. | :26:38.
first of the Italians to go this morning. She is really putting her | :26:39. | :26:47.
foot down here. She drifted so wide of the racing line there and she | :26:48. | :26:51.
seems to be out of steam. She has gone into silver. | :26:52. | :27:07.
She sets in further line and goes for a full second down. Too many | :27:08. | :27:13.
errors today. She has had a cracking season. Can | :27:14. | :27:33.
she make it happen today when it matters most? | :27:34. | :27:42.
She doesn't want to be finishing fourth. It has been effortless. A | :27:43. | :28:01.
solitary jumper. Easy over her skis. Now she can set up and ride and | :28:02. | :28:05.
glide for the line. Lara Coote tucks in. She is second for Switzerland. | :28:06. | :28:21.
-- Lara Gut. It is the turn of the Olympic super combined champion, | :28:22. | :28:27.
Maria Hofl-Riesch from Germany. This is the one she really wants. She is | :28:28. | :28:39.
letting it slip away. It is ninth in the end. Tina Maze is next. She did | :28:40. | :28:59.
so well in the downhill part of the compound. She was third. She is | :29:00. | :29:04.
going to really want to make the podium today. It is great skiing | :29:05. | :29:11.
here. Very good skiing and she is throwing caution to the wind down | :29:12. | :29:15.
hair. She is going to make a great move here. Tina Maze looking to be | :29:16. | :29:26.
the first Slovenian to win a medal at the Winter Olympic Games. She | :29:27. | :29:33.
needs to be ahead at the next split and she is getting quicker and | :29:34. | :29:39.
quicker. I have goose bumps watching mess. It is so good to see her on | :29:40. | :29:43.
form. -- watching this. Tina Maze is hoping to break Swiss | :29:44. | :29:58.
hearts here at Rosa Khutor. She tucks in for the line and skis for | :29:59. | :30:03.
the gold medal... She is dead level with Gisin! Equal, one: 41.57. If it | :30:04. | :30:11.
stays like that, they will have to find an extra gold medal. | :30:12. | :30:20.
Ten two is fast and furious and has all the Austrian resources behind | :30:21. | :30:27.
her but she has ground to a halt, it is over for Fenninger. That's how | :30:28. | :30:34.
they look at the two leaders. This shows you the difference between | :30:35. | :30:39.
them. They are almost neck and neck here. Very similar style of skiing, | :30:40. | :30:48.
dropping to the inside, Maze back into the tack a bit earlier. A | :30:49. | :30:51.
similar line, it is almost picture perfect. | :30:52. | :30:57.
Chemmy Alcott is looking for a place in the top 15 which would be good. | :30:58. | :31:05.
This course can vision is -- because conditions are not great, it is a | :31:06. | :31:09.
bit slushy. The slushy snow will not help us be bit looks like she's | :31:10. | :31:16.
giving it all she can. She lost some time on the steep section but she | :31:17. | :31:21.
has not lost too much and there we go... 19th. Do you think she will be | :31:22. | :31:29.
happy with that? I think she is just happy to get to the Olympics. You | :31:30. | :31:34.
get a two-minute run to prove things. Every time I come back from | :31:35. | :31:38.
these like breaks, I try to prove it and a top 20 finish is amazing | :31:39. | :31:42.
justice after what I have been through. I did not disappoint myself | :31:43. | :31:48.
it was not pretty but it was fast. Bronze for Lara Gut and the gold | :31:49. | :31:51.
shared between Gisin and Maze. CLAIRE BALDING: That gave us | :31:52. | :32:06.
something that has been seen at the Winter Olympics before but never an | :32:07. | :32:10.
alpine skiing. We will reflect on this with Graham Bell. Normally one | :32:11. | :32:14.
would save where was it won and lost, but in this case it's where | :32:15. | :32:21.
was it won and won? It was incredible case and I don't think we | :32:22. | :32:24.
have had a gold medal time in the Olympic Games, World Championships | :32:25. | :32:31.
in the Super-G and I think Hermann Maier tied with his opponent. We | :32:32. | :32:38.
time to hundredths of a second so we have got an analysis here which will | :32:39. | :32:43.
show us the two runs and we have on the left-hand side of the screen, | :32:44. | :32:47.
Gisin in red and on the right-hand side, Maze. Ignore the split times | :32:48. | :32:54.
of Gisin because that was against the race I ahead of her. But look at | :32:55. | :33:03.
Maze on the right of the screen as she drops in, she makes a big | :33:04. | :33:08.
mistake on the turn from this point, you can just see the difference in | :33:09. | :33:14.
speed. Gisin is visibly faster down this bottom section carrying much | :33:15. | :33:19.
more speed and catching up all the time, just a fraction of a second | :33:20. | :33:22.
behind and almost level as they cross the line. If they cross the | :33:23. | :33:29.
line at 30 metres per second, then a hundred of a second is about 30 | :33:30. | :33:33.
centimetres, it is that distance and that is wide ski racers will reach | :33:34. | :33:36.
towards the line to break the beam for that extra fraction of a second | :33:37. | :33:40.
but they both did it and came across the line together. Great analysis, | :33:41. | :33:47.
thank you Graham. A brilliant women's downhill to enjoy and | :33:48. | :33:50.
congratulations to Chemmy Alcott for coming back from a third broken leg | :33:51. | :33:55.
within four years and finishing in the top 20. Ollie Williams is across | :33:56. | :34:01.
all things social media and I was looking up Tina Maze earlier on this | :34:02. | :34:05.
morning, she is a pop star as well as a skier. Yes, but first of all, | :34:06. | :34:11.
she's also a woman who has so much emotion, she posted a Facebook | :34:12. | :34:16.
update after winning, 50,000 likes and showing in the background a map | :34:17. | :34:20.
of the course with the Olympic rings drawn and the number one behind it | :34:21. | :34:24.
and speaking of number ones, she is a pop star in Slovenia as well. She | :34:25. | :34:31.
has a single entitled My Way Is My Decision which has had millions of | :34:32. | :34:35.
YouTube views. I cannot tell you where it charted but she is one of | :34:36. | :34:41.
the more unusual characters. I believe she is Slovenia's first | :34:42. | :34:47.
Winter Olympic gold medallist if not there first Olympic gold racing, we | :34:48. | :34:52.
have been told to explain what barrel racing is, it is like a | :34:53. | :34:57.
Gymkhana race but around barrels on a quarter horse. Just a reminder | :34:58. | :34:59.
that this starts tomorrow. COMMENTATOR: Amy Williams is the | :35:00. | :35:06.
queen of speed! Lizzy Yarnold and Shelley Rudman | :35:07. | :35:29.
have been getting faster and faster in training and they start their | :35:30. | :35:33.
challenge for a medal at 7:30am tomorrow morning. Also in terms of | :35:34. | :35:35.
morning action, James Woods in the freestyle skiing slopestyle and | :35:36. | :35:43.
Elise Christie in short track speed skating and more curling and GB's | :35:44. | :35:47.
winning started in high spirits today having set an Olympic record | :35:48. | :35:49.
against the USA yesterday. MUSIC: "U Can't Touch This" by MC | :35:50. | :36:04.
Hammer. I think we broke another big | :36:05. | :36:21.
record! Yes, seven points in one and set a new Olympic first yesterday | :36:22. | :36:26.
and a grand total of 12 equalled another Winter Games milestone. | :36:27. | :36:29.
Confidence was high then as they headed into their matchup versus | :36:30. | :36:31.
Canada this morning against Jennifer Jones, Canada's skip and Olympic | :36:32. | :36:37.
favourite. Straight to an four here, Canada leading 3-1 with a mistake by | :36:38. | :36:46.
Jones. A week delivery gives Eve Muirhead the chance to capitalise | :36:47. | :36:52.
and grab two points. And a shot delivered, mission accomplished. | :36:53. | :36:59.
John is trying to clear British stones aims for three points before | :37:00. | :37:03.
the interval. -- Jones trying to clear. Team GB respond in and six. | :37:04. | :37:11.
-- end six. That will make her feel better. The | :37:12. | :37:22.
gap was close but Jones was not rattled. 7-5, and it all came down | :37:23. | :37:29.
to the final skip's stones in end ten. | :37:30. | :37:33.
Trying to move both of the yellows with the final stone. | :37:34. | :37:40.
It is an all or nothing shot. What an end this would be to a great | :37:41. | :37:47.
match between the two of them. It has been close and Eve Muirhead | :37:48. | :37:50.
coming with the chance of a really big shot here... It has given the | :37:51. | :37:59.
much to Canada. We had a chance to get a triple takeout and it was not | :38:00. | :38:03.
an easy shot, I would not have gone for it if I did not think it was | :38:04. | :38:09.
there but these things happen. With the sun setting over the Black Sea, | :38:10. | :38:12.
the ice cube was getting ready for evening play as the men of Team GB | :38:13. | :38:18.
took to the ice. David Murdoch was still counting his blessings from | :38:19. | :38:21.
yesterday's when handed to them by Germany. -- yesterday's win. It | :38:22. | :38:28.
would be the Swiss team aiming to put holes in today's plans for Team | :38:29. | :38:35.
GB. In end three, Murdoch was in full control. Yet his attempt at | :38:36. | :38:40.
getting two points failed as one stone straight off course leaving | :38:41. | :38:46.
him with just a single. The Swiss came out swinging but shot after | :38:47. | :38:51.
shot, end after end ended in disappointment. It would be 2-1 by | :38:52. | :38:55.
the interval with Great Britain on top. David Murdoch added another | :38:56. | :39:01.
point when they would be flummoxed as further tactics on how to protect | :39:02. | :39:05.
their house were discussed. Legal here, legal here... If we play this | :39:06. | :39:08.
one, I don't know. Team GB were not going to back down | :39:09. | :39:19.
and managed to protect their lead, frustrating the Swiss. The struggle | :39:20. | :39:23.
would endure right until the final end and the last chance for spending | :39:24. | :39:26.
the show to place a stone in a tactical position. -- last chance | :39:27. | :39:34.
for Sven Michel to place a stone. COMMENTATOR: That is a pretty good | :39:35. | :39:35.
shot. His final act was to raise any of | :39:36. | :39:41.
Switzerland's hopes in this game. David Murdoch is looking to push | :39:42. | :39:49.
that Swiss stone out. He has done it, very well done, | :39:50. | :40:05.
David Murdoch. Another win so Great Britain take this four - two against | :40:06. | :40:08.
Switzerland meaning they have won three of the first four matches and | :40:09. | :40:11.
are sitting very nicely indeed in the round robin. I wanted to come up | :40:12. | :40:17.
with intensity and focus and you saw that in our game, we were clinical | :40:18. | :40:22.
and it was a lot more fire in the stomach today. We were going hard | :40:23. | :40:26.
for everything. And both the men and women will be back in action | :40:27. | :40:29.
tomorrow and you can see how they get on as they round robin matches | :40:30. | :40:33.
continue. But the beautiful thing about the Winter Olympics is that | :40:34. | :40:36.
once every four years, we get to indulge in sports we would not see | :40:37. | :40:40.
at any other time. The one that requires the closest personal | :40:41. | :40:46.
relationship is doubles luge. Let's see what happened with Colin Bryce | :40:47. | :40:47.
and Paul Dickenson. Tonight I come to the Sanki Sliding | :40:48. | :41:06.
Center to witness one of the quirkiest events of the Winter | :41:07. | :41:12.
Olympics, men's double luge. With strong Latvian, Austrian and German | :41:13. | :41:16.
entries, the big question is who will end up on top tonight? | :41:17. | :41:20.
A luge has got sharper blade than the other sports, Bobsleigh and | :41:21. | :41:26.
skeleton in particular are very rounded and flat and you tend to | :41:27. | :41:29.
skip or more, and luge is sharper and you can cut the ice quicker, you | :41:30. | :41:33.
got afford to make mistakes here. Luge is the fastest of all of them. | :41:34. | :41:38.
They will hit around 138 kilometres per hour. | :41:39. | :41:41.
Why the German domination? Georg Hackl is coaching Wendl and Arlt and | :41:42. | :41:53.
is brilliant at understanding the science of sliding down a hill | :41:54. | :42:00.
quickly. Who else will compete? The Linger Brothers of Austria, they won | :42:01. | :42:04.
the last two Olympics. They might be able to challenge Wendl and Arlt and | :42:05. | :42:14.
the other Germans, Egger and Banneker, and the Austrians as well. | :42:15. | :42:26.
When you watch double loop -- luge it is amazing with the speed but if | :42:27. | :42:29.
you snooze, you luge. The double epic champions, Andreas | :42:30. | :42:38.
and Wolfgang Linger. They have gone into the lead already and this will | :42:39. | :42:44.
put down a big lead. Wendl and Arlt, this is a big hope for Germany. | :42:45. | :42:50.
Quicker than the Lingers! That is a massively. | :42:51. | :42:59.
If anybody can beat Wendl and Arlt, it is these | :43:00. | :43:04.
that was horrible, a big slide there. We do not know much about | :43:05. | :43:18.
Peter Penz and his partner. That has thrown the cat amongst the pigeons. | :43:19. | :43:23.
That was the end of the first run and no surprise that Wendl and Arlt | :43:24. | :43:26.
are in the lead. It was a surprise with the second German sled who had | :43:27. | :43:33.
an absolute shocker but that had made the chase for medals absolutely | :43:34. | :43:38.
fascinating. Any of these crews could take gold now. In striking | :43:39. | :43:45.
position to take the lead now and maybe get the medals. That is | :43:46. | :43:55.
definitely fast as we have seen. The faces of the two men who have got to | :43:56. | :43:57.
produce the ride of their life. Here we go, the Linger brothers... | :43:58. | :44:17.
They are almost two tenths of a second up, losing a bit of the lead | :44:18. | :44:20.
but not too much. Getting it together at the end here. | :44:21. | :44:28.
It is a litre. We are two minutes away from finding out if they have | :44:29. | :44:42.
won three Olympics in a row. The Linger brothers going for the lead. | :44:43. | :44:46.
Surely the Germans aren't going to take that lying down. The destiny of | :44:47. | :44:54.
the luge pairings goes from here. Can they keep it together? It looks | :44:55. | :44:58.
like Germany are going to do it again. That is absolutely superb. | :44:59. | :45:14.
Germany win gold in the luge doubles adding to the two goals that they | :45:15. | :45:21.
weren't in the men's singles and the women's singles. Jimmy are the Sochi | :45:22. | :45:27.
sliding sensation. It was a golden day for Germany. | :45:28. | :45:44.
Eric Frenzel will have impressed. He took the northern tip -- the Nordic | :45:45. | :45:50.
combined gold today. He won the cross-country leg with ease. Now we | :45:51. | :45:55.
are going to move to speed skating because Great Britain is very good | :45:56. | :46:01.
at short track skating. The Dutch are the ones who dominate speed | :46:02. | :46:09.
skating. They are pretty good at every distance apart from the 1000 | :46:10. | :46:15.
metres and that is because Shani Davis has dominated that category | :46:16. | :46:18.
over the last couple of Olympics. How did he get on today? | :46:19. | :46:26.
The atmosphere is building here. History might be made tonight. Shani | :46:27. | :46:36.
Davis won gold in Turin and Vancouver and tonight he is looking | :46:37. | :46:40.
to win third consecutive medals in this event. Let us get the lowdown. | :46:41. | :46:52.
What character is he? A very focused athlete. He was asked to carry the | :46:53. | :47:00.
Olympic flag. He turned the committee down. He said he would | :47:01. | :47:06.
carry it in the closing ceremony. The eyes of the world are on Shani | :47:07. | :47:14.
Davis but these guys are rooting for Michelle Muda. -- Michel Mulder. | :47:15. | :47:23.
Stefan Groothuis took to the ice. He is so strong. | :47:24. | :47:38.
Lining up for the completion of the opening 200. Stefan Groothuis not | :47:39. | :47:51.
renowned for his top speed but the last 500 metres, he is very good. | :47:52. | :48:09.
Both are in touch of the leading time. It is all about the strength | :48:10. | :48:17.
and power now. All those hours they have trained beginning to reflect as | :48:18. | :48:23.
they come off the bend and line-up for the run-up to the line. | :48:24. | :48:31.
They are both ahead. Stefan Groothuis set another record. Then | :48:32. | :48:46.
it was the turn of Michel Mulder going for his second gold. It didn't | :48:47. | :48:50.
quite go to plan. Looking for the finish. | :48:51. | :49:01.
Great skating from the Canadian. Shani Davis attempting to be the | :49:02. | :49:11.
first Olympian to win three gold medals in three games. Could he do | :49:12. | :49:12.
it? Shani Davis, what can he do now? He is a man with a mission hair. He | :49:13. | :49:31.
wants to get that third gold medal. At the moment he is off the pace of | :49:32. | :50:02.
Stefan Groothuis. Shani Davis digging deep. I don't think he is | :50:03. | :50:08.
going to do it. He is not going to achieve that | :50:09. | :50:21.
third gold medal. He will be very disappointed with that. This is | :50:22. | :50:28.
incredible. We came here to talk about Shani Davis and Stefan | :50:29. | :50:34.
Groothuis is the Olympic champion. Can you put a finger on what | :50:35. | :50:40.
happened? The speed was OK but compared to those before me, it | :50:41. | :50:48.
wasn't fast enough. Bought -- what about expectation? I couldn't care | :50:49. | :50:52.
less about the titles or anything like that. I have the medals and | :50:53. | :50:55.
most important is the performance. I am delighted to say I have been | :50:56. | :51:14.
joined by Robin Cousins. 1980 Olympic champion and didn't you | :51:15. | :51:22.
watch a wonderful pairs final today. It was a thrilling final. The | :51:23. | :51:27.
Chinese took them over four years ago but the Russians have been | :51:28. | :51:31.
skating brilliantly for the past few days and they didn't let anybody | :51:32. | :51:36.
down tonight. Specifically with the Olympic champions as Russia take the | :51:37. | :51:48.
Olympic title. Here they are, Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim | :51:49. | :51:52.
Trankov. They were not faultless. There was a little bit of a | :51:53. | :51:56.
touchdown with the hand. It was solid enough and they were streets | :51:57. | :52:03.
ahead. I love the second Russian team, federal claim off and Ksenia | :52:04. | :52:07.
Stolbova. They were hoping to be pressure rising for the gold medal | :52:08. | :52:32.
but had to settle for bronze. Be poured German pair dropped down and | :52:33. | :52:34.
they had a shocker. They won the world Championships but | :52:35. | :52:44.
the Germans were hoping that this could be their season to really push | :52:45. | :52:49.
and regain that title. It wasn't to be. They knew they had to deliver | :52:50. | :52:54.
the hard tricks. They had to go for the throw triple axel but it wasn't | :52:55. | :53:00.
to be tonight. Tomorrow they will wake up and realise that they had | :53:01. | :53:05.
won a bronze medal but they did not lose the gold. Tomorrow, the men's | :53:06. | :53:15.
challenge against. There are eight of them fighting for medal podium | :53:16. | :53:17.
places. I am happy to sit and watch. You | :53:18. | :53:30.
have new knees now. It is lovely to hate your expertise. Let us have a | :53:31. | :53:38.
look at the medal table. -- it is lovely to have your expertise. | :53:39. | :54:06.
This is a photo of Lizzie your mould on her last track walk. Follow her | :54:07. | :54:16.
online. It is fascinating to learn about the different places that she | :54:17. | :54:20.
slides. If we were to look up above us, we would see the International | :54:21. | :54:25.
space Station because NASA is tweeting photographs of the Olympic | :54:26. | :54:29.
Park from space. You can see the orange circle in the bottom | :54:30. | :54:36.
right-hand corner there. That is us. Well they look down, the team GB | :54:37. | :54:42.
athletes are looking up. Here is a photo from David King looking up at | :54:43. | :54:49.
the sky. He can see a sole tyre of Scotland in the contrails of the | :54:50. | :54:53.
aircraft behind the Olympic Cauldron. The Sochi trolley carries | :54:54. | :55:08.
on to amuse us. This is a church that has made their own BBC trolley. | :55:09. | :55:14.
It is a beautiful wreck -- replica and we need it because our trolley | :55:15. | :55:21.
is packed to the rafters. It is getting very fall but it now has a | :55:22. | :55:26.
flag on it. Thank you so much. We will talk to you tomorrow. This is | :55:27. | :55:32.
the coverage for tomorrow. If you are up and early, you will be | :55:33. | :55:34.
rewarded. There is extended highlights on the | :55:35. | :55:51.
red button following us straightaway. Apologies, Chemmy | :55:52. | :56:01.
Alcott's for run was not shown. I don't think it is there on the host | :56:02. | :56:06.
coverage but is and snowboarding is there. Arsenal played Manchester | :56:07. | :56:15.
United and the standout fixture has been hit by the weather. | :56:16. | :56:35.
Snowboarders, renowned for looking cool at all times. This was great | :56:36. | :56:45.
but not as good as these. They were not as good as this. Showcasing | :56:46. | :56:55.
local -- showcasing culture backfires. And finally, we love the | :56:56. | :57:03.
celebrations from the women's downhill. Great stuff. | :57:04. | :57:10.
That is all we have got time for this evening. Extended highlights on | :57:11. | :57:18.
the red button. Join us first thing tomorrow morning for all of the | :57:19. | :57:20.
latest. Slopestyle is the way to go. You | :57:21. | :57:42.
have to express the best that you can do. Everyone gets along, | :57:43. | :57:47.
