2016: Arsenal v Chelsea Women's FA Cup Final

Once I was red, now I'm blue. Once I was blue, then red, then blue, now

I'm red. I lifted the cup with them. And us. I won two titles and the

double. In one season with them. We won the lot. We are the most

successful club in the land. We are the holders. Double winners.

History. Champions. Red. Blue. North London. West London. Arsenal.

Chelsea. The two best teams in the capital meet at the National Stadium

for the very first time. Holders Chelsea after their victory against

Notts County last year, the first ever at Wembley, against Arsenal,

the most successful club in the history of the competition, looking

to regain the trippy their last won two years ago. 30,000 were here for

last year -- with a trophy. We are expecting more this afternoon. The

last two names on the trophy go head-to-head, Arsenal Ladies,

historic giant of women's football, trying to wrestle the cup back from

last season's double winners, Chelsea Ladies. It promises to be

quite a final. And with me to enjoy it, two players who know exactly

what it's like to lift the famous old trophy, Rachel Brown, who was

goalkeeper when Everton won in 2010, the only time Arsenal have lost an

FA Cup final. They have won it an incredible 13 times thanks partly to

Rachel Yankey, winning nine times with Arsenal and twice with Fulham,

11 winners medals. Currently on loan at Notts County. That is a

ridiculous number of medals. What is it like to get your hands on that,

particularly in front of the Arsenal players? Being just want it made it

extra special. It is the pinnacle of your career to play in the FA Cup

final, especially in front of wonderful crowd at Wembley. For me

to get my hands on the trophy after trying a number of times was a

highlight of my career. 11th winners medals is ridiculous! Are they

around the house in different bedrooms? I have a cabinet. It is

just special to play in this occasion. I did not get to do it

here, this is fantastic, and both teams will have a fantastic day and

whoever wins will remember it. I hope you have a security guard on

that Cabinet! But it could go to extra time and penalties this

afternoon but whatever happens, one of these teams will make the short

journey home with the cup. Sue Smith has been assessing the strengths of

each team. It has been a time of great change

at Chelsea, after years building they are now double winners and one

thing to pinpoint is ever-changing front four. They play another ten in

the hole with a rotating three in front.

The Korean, Ji come is the number ten, one of the best in that

position. Eni Aluko template up top, Gemma Davison on the right and Karen

Carney on the left. Fran Kirby can be found in any one of those front

three roles. Their selection is fluid and versatile, like their

style. Causing problems for the opposition

has never been a problem for Chelsea but perhaps their shortcomings have

been when they have played a more physical team and got bullied a

little bit, but not any more. Millie Bright provide steel in the middle,

an immense athlete. I played with her at Doncaster and she has

developed so much since then, her all-round game has improved and I

think she is a future England international. Along with Drew

Spence and Katie Chapman, they are the enforcers and allow the front

four to go forward and play. One thing that shines through is how

much the players really enjoy playing for their manager. One

headache for Emma Hayes is that teams can get at them and we have

seen Liverpool scoring three goals, albeit in a 6-3 defeat today.

Throughout my playing career come Arsenal have always dominated. 14

league titles, 13 FA cups. Not so much recently. But they do have a

wealth of experience in their squad. In their defence they have Casey

Stoney and Alex Scott, over 200 England caps between them. It is a

similar story in midfield with Fara Williams and Jordan Nobbs, both with

loads of international experience, and the luxury of a world-class

player like Kelly Smith as a coach and occasionally off the bench. The

manager has also added a wealth of international experience, goalkeeper

van Veenendahl, centre forward van de Donk and Henning at centre-half.

The problem he has is trying to fit all of those quality players into a

starting 11th and there has been a lot of chopping and changing this

season and a lack of consistency -- 11. This is why it is so difficult

to predict. Both teams know each other so well. Chelsea started the

season better but it is a cup final and anything can happen. STUDIO: It

can indeed and that is what makes it so exciting. This is the team that

the Arsenal boss Pedro Losa has selected. He has gone for Casey

Stoney, Fara Williams and Kelly Smith, all starting. Do you think

that is specifically because it is a huge stage and you need that

experience? Definitely, you need those big players who are used to

playing in this environment, the atmosphere, and they have to control

their emotions. Those are the players you want in your team and

through the spine as well, big players like Kelly Smith who can

come out and win a game and show what they are about. Any surprising

omissions? Jemma Rose has been dropped having played most of the

season so far and she is not even on the bench. Henning comes in. That

was a surprise although Jemma Rose as not quite been in form but it's

great to see the likes of Kelly Smith back in there, and England

legend. And an Arsenal legend. She has won the cup before and will be

pulling the strings to Dave for them. Let's have a look at the

Chelsea team. They have an embarrassment of

riches. Look at the bench, Eni Aluko, Claire Rafferty. She has gone

for Spence and Chapman in midfield, a huge amount of strength. A

platform for the attacking players. Definitely. It is such a front four,

with such power, to leave out Eni Aluko, she could get into any team.

But I think Gemma Davison will worry defenders and that is possibly why,

if it was Eni Aluko and Gemma Davison, that is why Gemma Davison

gets the nod. The key players for you? Katie Chapman and Drew Spence

have been like a brick wall in midfield and they can almost

nullified what Arsenal will bring. They are holding midfielders but

have an attacking element so they will be a real force that Arsenal

will have to get through. They are a strong part of it but it is the

attacking force of Chelsea in that front four that Arsenal will be more

worried about than anything. As we alluded to come Arsenal at the

experience and one of the greats of the game to call upon. Kelly Smith

has been talking to us. Starting in yet another cup final but here at

Wembley and against local rivals Chelsea, it does not get much

bigger? This one is a bit special, at Wembley, and doing it for the

club I supported as a kid and the only team I played for in England.

It is a massive occasion for myself and my family and the club. You have

played here before, what is your advice to the girls in the changing

rooms who have not been in this situation? It's just another game,

yes, it's in Wembley but we have played this game are hundreds of

times. There is expectation with the stadium and fans but it is still a

game of football. Our preparation has been fantastic, really on it and

focused and ready to pick up the trophy. Do the nerves ever go away?

I still have them now, but it's good nurse, a bit of the belly rumbling.

-- good nerves. But when you get out and soak up the sun and you can see

where your family are sitting and you can enjoy the occasion. Best of

luck. If the great Kelly Smith is nervous it is OK for the younger

ones to have some nerves. You played with her for so many years with

England and Arsenal, what is she like on and off the pitch? Off the

pitch she is quite shy and humble but on the pitch she is a De Menezes

if Kelly sees red, she has that aggression -- she is a demon! I

think she can switch and turn a game which is what I wasn't surprised to

see she was starting. She came on in the Birmingham game and changed the

FA Cup and kept them in it, and in the Notts County game she was their

best player and I think she has to play. When Kelly Smith plays welcome

it lists the team and get the rest playing well. And it will lift the

fans. Chelsea's longest serving player is Claire Rafferty who is now

in her 10th season at the club and she has come back after suffering

three cruciate knee ligament injuries. She told me she is now

keen to make up for lost time. This is not a bad setup. A beautiful

training facility, your own women's training pitch currently being mown.

The sun is shining. A far cry from when you started? Yeah, we used to

be over at the back, eight o'clock at night every Tuesday and Thursday

and now we are in everyday, such a different environment. Things have

changed since John Terry was helping you out, though he is still very

supportive. He is still the chairman, the president I think. He

did bail us out at one stage about five or six years ago when we were

struggling with kit and stuff and that went hand-in-hand with us being

near the bottom of the league. What kind of match can we expect? I think

it will be close and hopefully we can break them down, get Ji on the

ball, our magician. We will see, I don't want to... Karen Carney, you

played against her in the 2012 FA Cup final, dare I mention the

penalties and everything. Everybody forgets about that one. We were

nowhere near as good as we are now then. We came really close, I think

I missed a penalty. I wasn't going to mention it! But to win it last

year, and then the league, having been at the club for so long, I felt

a bit rewarded for my patients and just released a look back in my

career and say that at least I won the FA Cup and the league and a

bronze medal at the World Cup! It has been an agreeable time for you.

Even more so bearing in mind you have had three ACL injuries. Not

many have come back to play better than ever on that. I think I hold

the record for the most amount of ACLs. The silver lining was that I

did them at a young age so I could bounce back. What drove me on was

the fact that I had not won anything yet or achieved anything. And you

have a working life outside of football. I work part-time for

Deutsche Bank. I am probably in want of twice a week and work from home

in the afternoons, and currently an analyst. Talk this through a day in

your working life last year compared to this year. Last season I used to

get the trading at about 930, I used to run off the pitch and be in the

office for about 130. It was pretty full on. And this season it is

totally different. The increase in professionalism, something has to

give. They are so supportive with where I'm at. What would you like to

achieve after you have finished your career? I don't know, obviously

continue in the same line in investment banking and to try to

work my way up the ladder up with that. Not everybody will make it to

the highest level so you need something to fall back on. It's

going all right at the moment. It's going well!

Claire Rafferty is a busy lady, but she is having a bit of a rest today,

on the bench. What are your thoughts? I'm not sure about that

because for me, she is one of the first names on the team sheet for

Chelsea, and for England as well. Bringing in the Portuguese

international Ana Borges, who not necessarily a out-and-out defender,

it is a bit of a strange one. I don't think Claire Rafferty has done

anything to let down Chelsea. I have my suspicions that there might be a

little bit of an injury with Claire Rafferty. We shall see. Chelsea have

listed the league and cup double. Emma Hayes is one of several former

Arsenal employees now at Chelsea. Earlier, she spoke to Jo. You must

have such great memories from last year, so how hungry are you and the

team to keep the trophy? Last year, it feels like yesterday. That is how

Familia Wembley has become for us. We will always compete for trophies,

the hardest decision I have to make is naming the team, disappointing

people on the big occasion. But Chelsea will expect to content for

trophies across the season. Is it fair to say that you are favourites

today? Anybody involved in cup competitions knows there is no such

thing. It is a one-off game, it is a London derby, and Arsenal have

quality throughout the squad. No favourites. The team which gets

strategy right usually wins. The crowd will be an advantage for you

today? I think we know how to manage the occasion, which is an advantage,

I think. It is everybody's dream to play on this pitch. Be on that I

think there will be nothing to separate the teams. I hope it is a

good affair for the neutrals and the fans because we will have a record

crowd today, which really big for women's football. Fran Kirby was

ineligible last year, having signed from Reading that season. How much

of an influence would you expect her to have? I think a massive influence

in this game. Probably because we did not start the best, and she has

been on the bench, she has not started as much as we would expect.

But she has come into her own in the latter stages. She is a tricky

player, seekh kebabs the ball under such good close control, and she

works so hard. She is so passionate, and on an occasion like this, if you

are the Arsenal back four, you have got to be worried. They will have

seen her playing for England, they see her every week - a tricky,

clever player? Yes, dubbed the mini Messi by Mark Sampson. She lives up

to that, in a lot of respects. She will be thrilled to be starting in

this massive occasion. She has only recently come into the framework on

the international level, having moved from Reading. She will be

exciting for today but also looking ahead over the next ten years,

hopefully. Arsenal have struggled to find a consistent starting XI this

season, but Danielle Carter has been ever present in the league. She made

her England debut in September and she also made it into the England

team of the year. No wonder, then, that we told Sue Smith to yet

Carter. How excited are you about the FA Cup

Final? Definitely, it's going be a great occasion. Two London teams at

Wembley. It's going to be an historical event. Have you been to

Wembley before? To watch but not to play. Talk about, I know you have

been to FA Cup finals before... The most recent one, 2014, we won, it

was great. Everybody was enjoying it. That is what we have got to

replicate. But I have also been on the losing side, against Everton.

What do you think of Chelsea, your opponents? Obviously, we are massive

rivals. A lot of them are ex-Arsenal players, which is quite annoying.

But we just want to win. I remember hearing you say about Katie Chapman

being one of your favourite players to play alongside - is she still one

of your mates? I still respect her a lot, but when she's not on my team,

she is just another sport. I still respect her, but on the pitch, it

doesn't matter any more. So, 2016, will it be your breakthrough season

for England? I would like to think so. Obviously, I have got one cap

now and I just want to get more and more. I want to be in contention to

play for England, fingers crossed, if I keep performing the way I have

been. Obviously, in your single cap, you got a hat-trick. I could not

have asked for anything but, obviously! As a player, I am still

young, with a lot of things to work on. Hopefully I will get another

call up soon. And obviously, at Wembley, with loads of people coming

to watch? I personally have a lot of family. My family is massive. I

think it totals up to about 70 adults and 30-odd children! Flags

and banners?! I hope not! But hopefully it will be a good game for

them to see. I think she was actually serious. I think she has

got a hundred members of her family! It would not surprise me! I do not

even know 100 people! You know her really well from your time at

Arsenal - what sort of person is the on and off the pitch? Of the pitch,

she is very down-to-earth, just a nice kid. And she wants to learn,

which is one of the nice things. Everybody wants to help her. On the

pitch, she has got power, she has got pace. I think she needs to be

more clinical and I think. But in front of a, she wants to get more

goals. She wants to get in good goal-scoring positions. -- in front

of goal. You cannot teach that grit and determination. That is why,

something like this, cup finals, she played well on previous occasions,

against you guys are! She puts on a show. And today she needs to go out

and really show who Danielle Carter is, and what she can do. She was

outstanding couple of years ago, in the MK Dons final, sorry, Rachel,

against Everton! They have got an injury today to Fahey, so how do you

think Carter will get on? Yes, Millie Bright playing out of

position, I think Danielle Carter's eyes will have lit up when they saw

that Millie Bright was playing out of position. The same for the front

three of Arsenal as a whole, I think. It will give them an extra

boost, if they needed it. That kind of matchup would really favour

Danielle Carter, with respect to the others. We think there will be about

35,000 or so people at Wembley Stadium today. It is weird seeing

Arsenal in a cup final and potentially being the underdogs. So

many times after the last couple of decades, we have expected you lot,

Rachel Yankey, to walk over the opposition. Are they underdogs

today? I think they are, yes, on form. Arsenal have not quite

clicked. I think there is nothing better than a cup final to change

things around. The Arsenal players, maybe this is the little bit of

pressure which... And it is pressure, every cup final, people

have expected us to win. That pressure is now on Chelsea, so let's

see how they handle it. Absolutely fabulous. The teams are about to

walk out at, which are stadium. Before they do, here are a couple of

good luck messages from familiar faces. Good luck, Arsenal Ladies,

hope you can finish the job of and hopefully come back with the cup.

Welcome to our coverage. We are all set for the 2016 SSE Women's Fa Cup

Final. To talk us through it, Sue Smith, twice a cup finalist with

Leeds, and Jonathan Pearce. Thank you very much. Wembley in the

sunshine, always a special. It has been billed as the biggest women's

cup final ever. It started with the preliminary round in September,

Redcar winning. And it culminates here today, a record crowd. Here

they come. Blue and red, Arsenal, the greatest side in the history of

the competition. Their 15th final, they have lost just one. Chelsea,

the holders. Beat Arsenal in the league just 23 days ago. Sue,

Arsenal will have to be much improved from that day? They will,

but they have changed their team, and for me, for the better. They

have got a lot of experience in the line-up. That makes such a

difference. But Chelsea were great on that day, and a very good,

quality team, going forward. The presentation party are down there

ready to meet the players. The FA chair of the women's committee, and

the vice-chair, and the director of marketing for the sponsors of this

competition, SSE. And there we are seeing a legend in the women's game,

Kelly Smith. An FA Cup winner on four occasions. She has scored six

goals in finals of the FA Cup. And a proud occasion as well. Alex Scott

leading the party down the Arsenal team. What a great day for Alex as

well. It really is a great day for Alex. Again, another experienced

player, who has played in finals, and she will be looking after the

players on and off the pitch. It is important for those younger players

who have not experienced anything like this, they need a hand around

the shoulder, to tell them, it is just a game of football. Yet it is a

big occasion, but relax and go out and do your thing. A smile from the

Arsenal captain. Pedro Martinez Losa, who did well at Rayo

Vallecano, winning the Spanish cup as manager there. He has had a great

record against Chelsea since coming to Arsenal, I can tell you. We saw a

brief clumps of the referee there. As the Chelsea captain, Katie

Chapman, walks the officials down her line of players. Ji So Yun, who

scored the winner last year. She scored a belter against Manchester

City in the semifinal to take that game into extra time. She could be

absolutely kid today. I think Ji will be key, the whole front four

will be key. Fran Kirby as well. But Ji, she likes to get on the ball and

make things happen and find those front three. Arsenal will really

need to watch her for the entire 90 minutes, because she can do

something magic. Chelsea looking to be the fifth club to win

back-to-back trophies. They are wearing the new Chelsea kit today.

We will hear the anthem... So important a day, for so many

reasons, for so many people. The referee, Sarah Garratt, says it is a

dream come true for her. Has not quite sunk in properly that surely

taking charge of the FA Cup Final. There should be no nerves amongst

some senior players out there. Katie Chapman, seven times a winner of the

FA Cup. Arsenal, jittery at the back in the league defeat against the

Blues last month. And they've made changes. The legendary Kelly Smith,

who had a real impact as a sub in that game, starts. 25 FA Cup winning

medals in that line-up. The German Henning makes her debut in this

competition. Casey Stoney, who won it with Chelsea. Only five survive

from the 2014 cup final. Chelsea have two changes from the win at

Borehamwood recently. Portuguese international Borges is preferred to

Claire Rafferty for tactical reasons. Fran Kirby leading the line

after that great semifinal win over Manchester City. Eight of that team

started last season's final. Both teams are full internationals

and qualities, which are set up for a good final. The two Graco captains

know each other well, part of the England team in the World Cup

finals. -- the two captains. I wonder if this is the key player,

she made a real difference when she came on in the league game, they

suddenly had creativity having had none before. Legend is used to

easily but she definitely is one. The fact that she has quick players

either side of that will help because she will get on the ball and

find them, get into the box and she is clinical and has that calm finish

about her. I mention her experience, it is so important on occasions like

this. It looks as if Arsenal will be lining up to the right-hand side.

Such an experienced player in Fara Williams, the most experienced

England international ever. Ji, who scored here last season in the

final. She had been in splendid form with six goals already in seven

games for Chelsea this season. Sarah Garratt, the referee, checks with

her assistance. Clouds have puffed up above us but the players are in

shade. Arsenal in their famous red and white will kick off to get the

2016 SSE Women's FA Cup final underway.

Pressing on the edge of the area. They have to go at Chelsea from the

start, to get on the front foot because if they allow them to get

into a rhythm, it will be Chelsea's day. I think Arsenal know that and

you can see it from the attacking line-up. If Chelsea get the first

goal, they might be unstoppable. Kelly Smith is leading from the

front. Carter with the effort from the mistake. Great effort from Dan

Carter. To have the confidence so early, Millie Bright could not

control it and straight to she was there. It was not far away. A good

start from Arsenal. Dan Carter turned 23 next Wednesday. She has

scored three goals in this competition this season, a couple in

the semifinal against Sunderland and one against Notts County. Chasing

after it is Kelly Smith. She is 37 now, she also works on the coaching

side the state at Arsenal, back for her third spell. -- on the coaching

side these days. That is gathered by the Chelsea goalkeeper, the very

capable Swedish international, Hedvig Lindahl. There is a Dutch

international at the other end in Sari van Veenendaal. I think that is

something that has really improved in the women's game, the standard of

goalkeeping in the WSL. Chelsea have won all seven games this season,

scoring 26 goals. Emma Hayes has 13 bang in form. A very approachable

and likeable manager -- has her team in form. Chelsea come across as a

family unit. Coming down the left and forcing a corner off Hannah

Blundell who has had a very good season so far. A positive start for

Arsenal. Stoney is up from the back. Three times and FA Cup winner, once

with Arsenal, then Chelsea, and then back at Arsenal two seasons ago.

That was curled in by Williams who will take most of the set pieces.

Mitchell, she was sent off early in the competition. Down the right-hand

side, looking for Casey Stoney popping up in the right-wing

position. It was her birthday yesterday, she turned 34. She won't

be happy about you saying that! She was telling everybody she is 24!

This was the chance from Dan Carter. Arsenal have started brightly,

especially Carter, always looking to take on the full-back and that is

what they need to do. Scott missed did that. Eight of eight cup winner.

There is some history at that, with so many of these players swapping

sides over the years. Gemma Davison won the cup four times with Arsenal.

Bright, makeshift centre-back at the moment because far he is out, but

she has performed very well in there and played every minute of the

season so far -- Niamh Fahey. She slots in at centre-back very well,

strong and physical and good in the tackle. Paul Green, the Chelsea

assistant manager, new her from Doncaster, as did U. I do and she

has improved so much since then. Her all-round passing and her game,

being around good players at Chelsea on a daily basis. And next up for

Doncaster is Arsenal in the league. I'm taking notes! Kirby was offside.

That was a lovely ball through, Estcourt by the offside flag. Borges

getting forward from full-back -- just caught. That was a bad call,

she was onside. That is what Fran Kirby can do. She held the run well.

And she was onside. 15 goals in 18 games for Chelsea, carrying on the

scoring when she left off at Reading. Two years ago she was the

highest scoring player in English women's football,

second division with red ink. They have since been promoted. Lindahl

came out quickly, good vision from Jordan Nobbs in midfield.

She will like this pitch because she had such energy, getting from box to

box so readily. They call her the Energizer Bunny and that's exactly

what she's like. She will get a box to box. I can't remember her dad

doing that! I'm sure he will be watching. He was a player around the

north-east of England for many years with the likes of Hartlepool. One

game against Darlington I think it was, he lost six teeth in a

challenge and barely flinched! And talking of fitness, will you be

fit for Doncaster? You are coming back from injury. Fingers crossed.

I'm back training now. They have had a very young bench up that! You

will, what, the Rebel -- treble it? I think so! I have to remember not

to tell you anything! That is a throw into Arsenal to be taken by

Emma Mitchell who seems to have been around for ever but is only 23. She

won the Scottish Cup a couple of times with Glasgow City. Katie

Chapman, she will be all over the pitch today, covers so much ground.

Twice a scorer in cup finals. Against Doncaster in 2002, an

absolute belter for Fulham. And she scored against Sunderland in 2009

for Arsenal. Davison. Misplaces the and might

have a few confidence problems -- misplaces the pass. She has not

played since the league game between the two. It is difficult for Emma

Hayes because she had such a very good attacking front four and you

even look at the bench, Eni Aluko will be disappointed to be sitting

out, and I'm sure we will see her at some point. All good attacking

players. Good to say Niamh Fahey on the bench for Chelsea after her

fitness problems. That was cleared away by Flaherty. Another

international regular this season. Another former winner of the

competition, again, for Arsenal. Millie Bright looks to swing it

away. A good chase, Karen Carney and Alex Scott, England team-mates.

Henning, German international, this is her FA Cup debut. She has played

just a couple of games since joining from Paris Saint-Germain. I watched

the game against Birmingham where Stoney and Henning played as a

centre-half partnership and they played well together. She has huge

experience, winning the Champions League three times with Wolfsburg.

Strong challenge. That really was determination from Millie Bright on

Kelly Smith. She might be a legend, but you're not getting any freedom

on this pitch, that was the message. It just ran away from her. Millie

Bright assist seen the opportunity to get in a good, physical challenge

and that is exactly what she will do. She does not care if she is a

legend, this is a game of football and she is there to win the ball.

Half a chance here for Chelsea to create with Drew Spence.

Fara Williams again, just the sort of pitch for her to play on,

immaculate surface and she can pick out those long passes with made up

accuracy. Miscued by Millie Bright. And a corner on the right hand side.

Fara Williams I think we'll go across and take it. Karen Carney

trying to do some organisation. Oshoala will be a danger here.

It is going to be Kelly Smith taking it. Towards the far post. Very good

header away at the back by Gilly Flaherty. Free for Arsenal. 25 yards

out, maybe a bit more. That is a high foot. It is a free kick and

this is the range for Fara Williams or Kelly Smith. It could be Fara

Williams, part of the only team ever to beat Arsenal in an FA Cup final.

And runner up as well couple of times when she was at Charlton.

Playing against Chelsea, who she has supported since she was a young

girl, and played for. She pitched up and scored a hat-trick in her first

game. It will be Fara Williams. Driven. Too high.

She is a bit disappointed with herself, she normally gets those on

target to at least make the goalkeeper work but she has got

underneath the ball too much. Always rising. It is Chelsea who need to

settle down again. At the moment, in terms of possession, I think Arsenal

have the upper hand and certainly the way that Dan Carter started on

the left, they looked the more dangerous with 61% of possession

thus far. We only saw Henning went in the World Cup finals but we know

she is quick across the ground. She is such a good player, we said

legend, but in the draft for the women's game in America in 2009, she

was drafted second behind Marta, who is one of the all-time greats. That

is unbelievable and all credit to Kelly Smith for that because she is

such a valuable play, she can do things other players cannot and even

at 37 she is still one of the best players on the pitch. She didn't

play in the World Cup last summer. She was working for television. I

think you were drunk! LAUGHTER .

That very nearly bounced kindly for Arsenal. The shot from range there

from the Spanish international. I think Arsenal have really surprised

to Chelsea with their tactics, there are formation, probably their

personnel as well. They have started really high up the pitch. Every time

Chelsea get the ball, you can seemm one or two Arsenal players around

them. When they get the ball, they are attacking at such pace.

Three spells at the club, and has won 27 trophies in total. That

reality TV Survival Mission series recently, she is farrier Atletico

and fit, Alex Scott. She is in her 30s but she has kept herself so very

fit. -- she is very athletic and fit. I know you are a fan of Hannah

Blundell. She has been excellent this season, all the games I have

watched. Defensively solid, always seems to be in the right position,

even though she is only a young player. She is also good the other

way, going forward, creating those overlaps, full of energy. South

Coast girl, from Eastbourne. Played in the youth set up at Charlton.

England under 20 international. She has been in the senior squad once as

well. I think Fara Williams, she is just

sitting that little bit deeper, to play those passes but also, to stop

Ji from getting on the ball. If Farah can prevent that, it will stop

Chelsea from getting forward. That was a decent challenge by Emma

Mitchell. She will put this out of play. Did not see anything wrong

with the tackle myself. Sue? I could not see anything. We will get a

better look now. Looks like she catches her Achilles. No intent.

Probably saw one for Jemma. -- probably a painful one.

Danielle Carter goes for gold, and scores! The opening goal of the 2016

women's FA Cup Final, and Arsenal take the lead! It was a fantastic

goal! What a fantastic goal from Dan Carter. From the start, she has been

the sport to watch. Every time she gets the ball, she's looking to

drive at the defence and make something happen. This is the

benefit of having a right footer on the left wing. She is turning Hannah

Blundell inside and out and she just gets a yard of space. Straightaway,

she's looking, can I beat the defender? And can I go and put it in

the top corner?! And that's exactly what she did. Fantastic so low as

from Dan Carter, and that's exactly what Arsenal needed to do. She has a

very good scoring record against Chelsea. That's her sixth goal

against them in 17 meetings now. Scored in the cup against them last

year, and now has one in the final. To be honest, the only way we could

see Arsenal winning this on current form was to get off to this sort of

start - and they have done. They are so proud of their tradition in this

competition. 13 times winners, winning eight of the last 12 finals.

And they are ahead here. Here's Blondel, won back again by Mitchell.

Back to the goalkeeper. I don't think she stood a chance, goalkeeper

Lindahl, with that shot. Just 23 days ago, Arsenal look short

of confidence, they were shaky, brittle. And now... The way they

have started this game is excellent. Very high pressure, and the keys

players that we spoke about before the game are really making things

happen for them. Chelsea just need to get a grip on the game. The

defence, midfield and forward line for Chelsea are just so far apart.

Need to get closer together. Let me put this into some sort of context.

Chelsea have won their last nine domestic matches in all

competitions. Fran Kirby! It is still in play... Incomes the cross

from Blondel. This time the goalkeeper did come. The flag is

raised. The flag raised against Drew Spence, I think. But this is what

can happen. She is onside, I think that's a good call from the Lions

person. Fran Kirby is trying to get it through the goalkeeper's legs.

Could she maybe go across? I think there were players coming in. She

thinks there was a handball. Well, it bounced up and nearly hit Henning

on the arm. I don't know whether there was contact. Difficult to see

in the glare of the sun down there by the post. I think Fran Kirby,

because the goalkeeper came and went back, should have been more decisive

and maybe gone across goal, what do you think, Sue? I totally agree.

Sometimes when you have so much time, you probably change your mind.

You can see here, I don't think it hit her hand, I think she pulled it

away at the last minute. It is a bit risky putting your hand up in the

penalty area. Now, Williams to Nobbs. Giving herself some space on

that far side is Oshoala. Lovely ball into the penalty area...

Mirabeau brilliant challenge by Katie Chapman Chelsea. Arsenal come

again. Mirabeau lovely bit of play from

Arsenal. What a backheel there. Kelly Smith was just about to pull

the trigger, and what a tackle from Chapman. It was a nice move,

initially from Oshoala on the right-hand side, playing it through

to Losada and then that lovely backheel to Kelly Smith. Losada, the

former Barcelona sport. She won the cup in Spain with them on three

occasions. Oshoala came into the Spotlight at the World U20s for

Nigeria, scoring seven goals in five games, top scorer and best player in

that competition. She was a star at the 2014 African Chanting Chips as

well. Halfway through the first half, Arsenal leading. -- African

Championships. I think it is fair to say, Sue, the

women's game in England is getting bigger all the time. We have said it

before, and we will keep saying it. It is important that the women and

the clubs realise they are nowhere near where they want to be yet

dazzled as in making progress. Absolutely. If you look back ten

years ago, it has improved so much. The fact that we are here at

Wembley, with potentially 35,000 people watching, it is live on the

BBC, it is everything that you want as a female footballer. I look at

the benches of both teams - top quality internationals sitting on

the bench. People want to come over here and play in the Women's Super

League now Cheruiyot is such a good standard. And internationally we are

doing well as well. This is a far cry from the first ever women's FA

Cup Final, in 1971, Southampton won it, beating what is now Kilmarnock

ladies. It was at a sports centre in Crystal Palace. In recent years, the

women's game has come under the auspices of the Football

Association. Real efforts are being made, and crucially, more money has

been thrown at it. Which makes a big difference, which allows the girls

to train full-time. Professional players, makes the standard better.

What a goal this was a separate the sides. It is a fantastic goal,

really, really quick feet. She is right-footed, predominantly. Once

she gets into the area and sees the goal, top corner, and I agree with

you come I don't think the goalkeeper could do anything about

that. She made her debut at 16. Trying to win her 10th trophy as an

Arsenal sport. -- as an Arsenal player.

She is playing well at the moment, Henning, at the back for Arsenal.

Just looking at Arsenal, defensively, it looks like they have

got a 4-1-4-1, with Fara Williams sitting just in front of the

defence. But when they go forward, it is like they have got five

attacking, with both Losada and Jordan Nobbs helping out the front

three. And I think that's causing Chelsea are a lot of problems. I

don't think expected that. Kelly Smith playing for the foul. She

anticipated the challenge. She will be content that that

Arsenal free kick has largely been wasted. Having a decent final, is

Vicky Losada. There is manager Pedro Martinez Losa. Went out to America

to manage the Western New York Flash team over there. I think that is

where Pedro actually coached Vicky Losada. That's right. But it is

Chelsea causing the danger here now. Ji look opportunity for the

equaliser! It fell to the South Korean international. Good movement

from both players here. Gemma Davison wants to dribble at players.

Tries to just curl it with the outside of her boot. Just would not

get hold of it like she wanted to. But they show danger when they go

forward, with the quality they've got, Chelsea. Two times a cup winner

in Japanese football, Ji, who is known back in South Korea as the

Korean Messi. I think if you are of a certain height and you play just

behind the striker, you would be known in any country as the

something message and were you ever known as the scales Messi?! -- as

the something Messi. Were you ever known as the Scouse Messi?!

Quick throw, that's good vision from the Swedish international, who had a

good World Cup last summer. She is now England's record cap

holder. But for about seven years she was homeless. It just shows how

football has shaped her and helped her get out of that unfortunate

position she was in and now she does a lot for the charity which is

great. She is an ambassador for the homeless charity which is something,

she is a fantastic role model. Most capped England player and I am sure

there are more to come. Arsenal have played them all

controlled football. Davison could not get on the ball,

that is a concern, they haven't been able to get their playmakers on the

ball but this is Oshoala. Gilly Flaherty can get across. That is a

goal kick. Ever present in this season's cup run, Gilly Flaherty.

A very good crowd again. So important for the women's game that

the FA Cup final is staged at Wembley. They hope this will be the

biggest crowd of them all, beating last season's mark of 30,710. The

fact that we have a goal here maintains the history that there has

never been a 0-0 in a Women's FA Cup final. Good ball down the line.

Chapman. Looking for Hannah Blundell. The final ball has let her

down. Half an hour played, Arsenal

leading, Chelsea have had a couple of good chances, Kirby was one and

one -- one-on-one. Ji can change the game in a blink of an eye. Good

challenge. Jordan Nobbs. Looking for Oshoala. She has forced the throw

in, very strong, only 21. Last season at Liverpool she was trying

to find her feet in European football. She is strong now. Very

strong and quick. Very unpredictable. Sometimes it is her

final ball that lets her down. She had success with Nigeria at youth

level, she is now a member of the Order Of Niger. It is only now that

the women's game in England is being recognised.

Millie Bright. A chance for Drew Spence. Nothing came of it. A poor

clearance by Stoney. They were looking for the pace of Fran Kirby,

another mini Messi, called that by Mark Sampson. Yes, number ten,

similar size! I think the key to beating Chelsea is that you have to

try to win the midfield because they feed the front four and Arsenal are

winning it, preventing. The goalkeeper had to come out. She took

a chance. She is probably aware of the pace of

Oshoala, just got the wrong side. Had she touched it with her hand it

would have been curtains for her. Ji, dropping deep to see something

of the ball. Smith. Lovely turn. So often they have not been able to

clear their half, Chelsea. I think that is down to Arsenal's workrate.

The big occasion, big pitch. You wonder if Arsenal might pay for the

first half exertions. Played back by Stoney. Karen Carney just had a word

with the referee, I think she felt she was pulled back. Another England

star, Karen Carney. She had suffered from periods of depression and dark

period in her life. That is a lovely ball. Might get a shot in, switches

play. That is a lovely switch from Gemma

Davison. Blundell gets forward well as a full-back, I don't know if it

was a Croscombe shot, but in the end it wasn't anything -- Croscombe

shot. Chelsea are just lacking that bit of quality.

Carter. Towards Smith. Ana Borges got it away. And Katie Chapman doing

what she does so well, snapping and snarling. Carter.

Looking for Losada, who has got forward well. She has got further

forward, quicker, than she did in the league game between the teams

and Arsenal have moved the ball significantly quicker than three

weeks ago. A much improved Arsenal display

today. It really is, energy all over the pitch. I think he is picked the

right team and seems to have the right tactics. And it is working for

them. It doesn't help when you have so many good players to try to

manage. That has been his problem. Quality players on the bench, it is

a squad rotation and you have to buy into that and it is difficult for

players because you don't want to sit on the bench.

Here is a chance for Carney. Try to pull it back and Spence! Shot over

from Drew Spence. Better from Chelsea. They managed to

get it to Karen Carney who played it back to lose friends. -- Drew

Spence. She just couldn't keep shot down. She scored against Villa in

the quarterfinal. I just wonder if Chelsea have up problem with Gilly

Flaherty. She seems to be limping. Stoney. I think she's OK.

Carter. It came off her last, unlucky, it was a lovely, direct

run. I think Gilly Flaherty had a problem, she is down in the penalty

area. This does not look good. That would be a real loss to Chelsea if

she had to go off. That was unlucky for Dan Carter. She was trying to

get into the box, because if you do that, there is a chance of a penalty

all creating or scoring like she did earlier Ulster this is worrying.

Left ankle may be. Emma Hayes is talking to her

players, the experienced Katie Chapman. They do have name -- Niamh

Fahey on the bench. She has been out injured. She has only completed a

few training sessions this week. Whether she is match fit, I don't

know, but if there is a problem they have a fantastic replacement. It

would be a real shame to see Gilly Flaherty going off. A top player who

leads by example from the back. She seemed to be in trouble for four or

five minutes before then. Limping a little bit. Was this where she got

hurt? She was grimacing. There was not any

twisting so whether it was just contact...

I think she is going to come back on.

Here she comes. Made her full debut for England in October and has

stayed in the team since. She was at the Millwall Academy and Arsenal, I

think for 11 years, part of that fantastic team that won beam

quadruple. A lot of players have changed their allegiances. Will that

continue to happen as the game gets more professional and advanced? I

think so. You can see it happening already. I suppose it is just if you

feel you can develop your game better at a particular club, knew

would go there to make yourself a better player. The cross from

Oshoala comes off Flaherty and that is a corner to Arsenal. When the

players were together and getting a drink, I think it must be fairly

warm at its site but it is actually perishing where we are! -- at pitch

side. I might have to borrow your coat but it could be a tight fit!

There will be a little bit of stoppage time, this is a good run

from Borges. And who chased her back? 37 years of age, Kelly Smith.

Losada. Casey Stoney. Carter, the

goal-scorer. It will come back to her. She is sliding into pressurised

Millie Bright whose acclaimed drops to Fara Williams. Smith, lovely

turn, Oshoala! Sheet scuffed it. A big opportunity for Arsenal to go in

at 2-0 up. That would have been a long road back for Chelsea. Big John

is just before half-time, fantastic turn from Kelly Smith and she just

sees the run of Oshoala -- big chance. It is the end product

sometimes. That is a big chance for Arsenal will stop fantastic talent.

She was signed in the close season from Liverpool. She could not get

her feet right then. It remains 1-0. It was lovely play from Kelly Smith

who once played for Wembley Ladies. A chance for Carter.

She has been the liveliest forward in the game. She is high on

confidence, all the way through this half she has looked to get forward

and attack the Chelsea defence and she will shoot when she gets the

opportunity. A bit of a nudge on Kirby. From Casey Stoney, looking

for a fourth FA Cup success, a couple of spells at Chelsea, she was

player-manager for a while. She is a very good coach as well as a player.

I am sure she will continue her path in women's football.

A lot of the players do augment their wages, working as coaches at

various clubs. This is that chance again from

Oshoala, and she completely scuffs it. She probably even had time to

take the goalkeeper on and just slot it. Good control by Dan Carter.

Spence, Kane... That the vision she has. She is

enjoying her football today, Fara Williams. She is, she is getting a

bit of space in front of the back four. Play the ball into space and

her forward players will get it. The linesperson there, who comes

from a refereeing family. Yes, indeed, Michael Oliver! You were

testing my knowledge, then, won't you? Yes. Knowledge, ten out of ten.

Hesitancy, though, lets you down! Trying to find my piece of paper

with it on! He is here today as well. Fran Kirby looking to the

referee for some protection. Chelsea centre forward tracking back into

her own half, being brought down by an Arsenal centre half. That has

happened a fair few times in the men's game over the years. Thoughts

on the first half, Sue? Arsenal deservedly going into the break with

their lead. They have set up for this game perfectly. They have

pressed, they have attacked really well and deserve it leaders so far.

There is the goal-scorer, who bent her superb shot into the far corner.

Chelsea have had a couple of efforts. Fran Kirby chose the wrong

option and Ji shot over. But Arsenal are worthy leaders here in the 2016

SSE women's FA Cup Final. So, we are in familiar territory,

Arsenal leading an FA Cup Final. But perhaps in the context of this game,

with Chelsea being the favourites, having won every game this season,

was the fast start for Arsenal key for them? Definitely. It builds

confidence. Every time Arsenal have played in the league, they have been

a little bit shaky. People have questioned them. They needed to come

at Chelsea and really go for it early doors to get the confidence,

get the team feeling happy. And they have controlled the game. I think it

has been a good game. Both teams have done well. Do you think Chelsea

have been surprised by that start from Arsenal? Arsenal have been on

the front foot, not giving Chelsea any time on the ball, and I think

that has put Chelsea on the back foot. All Chelsea have been able to

do is often just pump it forwards, and there has been very few numbers

up front. We have seen Chelsea a lot this season - and they get numbers,

people like Ji and Fran Kirby, up, but they have not had the

opportunity to do that. And that is all credit to Arsenal. What a

quality goal it was from Dan Carter. Amazing, and that is what she can

do. She wants to run at you. Fantastic first touch. She is

right-footed, she wants to get it on her right foot and that is a

fantastic goal. I was going absolutely mental! Hannah Blundell

needs to get closer, Chelsea need to be telling her that, she needs to

show her on her left foot. I am surprised that they have let Dan

Carter come in on her right foot. That's worthy of winning any FA Cup

Final, I know it is early doors. I know, I hope it stays 1-0! That's

just quickly, sees it, and nothing that goalkeeper Lindahl could have

done. World-class goalkeeper, but that's all about the finish. You

working to point out that there was nothing the goalkeeper could have

done about that! Absolutely. She got on the line of the ball, and it was

just an absolute peach of a finish. Lindahl is about 6ft tall, one of

the tallest in the league, but that was a perfect finish. You were not

being wise after the event when you were talking about Blondel getting

closer to Carter. You were saying it right from the start. Yes, she

started the game, Dan Carter, everything she does is positive, she

wants to run at you. I just think that Hannah Blundell is too far away

and they are giving too much respect. If Dan Carter gets her

confidence, there she is, taking it on, winning a corner. So it was not

his prize when she cuts inside and schools that fantastic goal. But I

think Chelsea have to look to get closer, don't let Dan Carter run at

you. If she does, she can do things like that. There has got to be

communication across the back four as well. Hannah Blundell is dropping

off, so you cannot have the others in the back four dropping even

deeper. They have to get tight and not let Dan Carter turn. Or she has

got to drop off and almost double up. We did not see as much of the

Chelsea front four as we were expecting. But there was a chance

for Fran Kirby, and she was claiming handball afterwards, should it have

been? Not for me. It is so close and so quick, Henning does have her hand

up, but it's a good save. I don't know. But I'm going to be biased

anyway! That is what we have got you here for, Rachel, just to be biased!

It does. Her hand. In the context of it affecting the game? No, not at

all. -- it does. Chelsea did have a couple of chances. Some of their

star players perhaps not as much in the game as we expected, but the

chances were there for the likes of Ji? Yes, this was a good shot, but I

think that is why Gemma Davison has started. She can run at people.

She's got tricks, she's got power, she's got pace, and then she can set

people up like Ji So-Yun. She will be disappointed that she put that

one over the bar. She's better than that. Ji So-Yun is the little

magician for Chelsea. She can produce something out of nothing.

Arsenal need to watch that they do not get outnumbered, like they did

on that occasion, allowing Chelsea to get the shot away. And really, Ji

should have got that on target. But they need to be careful not to give

these world-class players time and space full stop that will be

something Pedro Martinez Losa will be looking at at half-time, in order

to stop Chelsea getting back into the game. There was another chance

for Arsenal, just before the break, they could have made it 2-0. Yes, it

was such good build-up play as well. Lovely ball by Kelly Smith, and she

just does not really connect with it, Oshoala. Arsenal were so

composed in the latter stages of this half. But shot, for a player of

her quality, on her right foot, she has what to do better than that. And

she will know that. She will be wanting to prove herself in the

second half. She should have scored. She should, she didn't. But I am

fascinated to know what Emma Hayes will be saying in the dressing room.

I think she will be saying, don't panic. In the last couple of years,

Chelsea have become then Tilly strong, the ability to cope with

pressure and to stick to game plans. They would have expected Arsenal to

come at them in the first 20 minutes. That will not be something

out of the blue. She will be saying, stick to the game plan, wear them

down, keep doing what we do well, which is passing the ball, using the

width, the likes of Karen Carney needs to get into the game a lot

more. But - stick to the game plan. So, it is 1-0 at half-time. We are

still in the early stages of the battle for the other major honour in

the women's game, which is the Women's Super League title. And at

the moment, it looks like a two horse race.

COMMENTATOR: They have had to be patient, but the goal has come for

the home side! Aluko! Lovely goal! Williamson is quick as well. What a

finish! Off the line, and Chelsea have what

surely is the decider, from Fran Kirby, again! And that settles it!

Three successive wins to start the season for Manchester City!

So, 100% starts in the league for Manchester City and Chelsea. City

have played one game more and have not conceded a single goal yet.

Chelsea have also won every game, and every cup game, Rachel. Two

horse race? I think so. I think Arsenal's performance today, in a

different context outside of the league, it is hoped to them in their

title aspirations as well. But as it stands, Manchester City and Chelsea,

it looks like those two. Both of them are playing fantastic football.

I think it could even go down to goal difference between the two of

them. You are out playing for Notts County on loan from Arsenal. Neither

of those asides in the title race at the moment, but you got your first

win a couple of weeks ago against Liverpool, and you played quite

apart in that game? Thank you! It was a good game and we were really

happy to get the win. In spells, we played really well and scored some

fantastic goals. Alan Wright's second goal was absolutely

brilliant. The team is doing really well, staff, players and fans have

been fantastic to me. How has it been with the stop start nature of

the campaign, bearing in mind there are so many international breaks and

everything to fit in around the summer league season? Yes, it is

difficult and forgot to get consistency. Especially with nine

teams, someone will always be missing out on any particular week.

Notts County played two games in one week, and then the FA Cup, and then

they were the ninth team. So this doubt on a bit of game time. But we

want to bounce back and hopefully win against Birmingham next week.

Back to the SSC Women's FA Cup final, it is Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea at

half-time and former Arsenal and England captain Faye White won nine

FA Cups. From Arsenal point view, that went pretty much perfectly for

Arsenal. You couldn't ask for much more. They started at a good tempo

and looked up for the occasion and Dan Carter with the brilliant goal,

has looked lively, willing to take players on. With Kelly Smith, she is

good at holding the ball up and finding space. They certainly at the

main part of the possession and it is encouraging. It was some goal

from Dan Carter, she is showing what she's all about. She was the way of

the year and she is showing why. -- Player of the Year. And laying on

the left allows her to cut in on the right foot but she looks up for the

occasion and is also getting back for her defensive responsibilities.

How should Arsenal approach the second half because you imagine

Chelsea will come out all guns blazing? They haven't really got

into the stride and Pedro will be making them aware of that. They

might not have wanted half-time to come. It is about keeping possession

and keep playing as well as they have done. But with Fran Kirby and

Gemma Davison and Karen Carney, they are frightening upfront. They will

have to be switched on and just keep the game going as it has. Thank you.

Faye White's Arsenal have the advantage here. Actor our commentary

team for the second half dizzy if Chelsea can make it two in a row at

Wembley -- back to. Once at the Jude coming on at

half-time, name Faugheen has been out for a while -- one substitute.

She has come on for Drew Spence which means Millie Bright moves into

midfield where she has been playing most of midfield. What do you make

of that? It needed to happen because Arsenal were overrunning the Chelsea

in the middle so you now have Bright and Chapman, two physical players.

Arsenal were putting Drew Spence under pressure and stopping her

playing so I think Millie Bright will come in and help Chelsea

regained the ball in midfield. Straight it is Flaherty. Up to the

edge of the area goes Losada and it is squirted away. Flaherty was under

pressure straightaway. Another free kick for Arsenal. That is a concern

bring it on your centre-half and if Jilly Flaherty -- Gilly Flaherty is

slightly injured... She is at the top of your picture. A free kick for

Arsenal. Fara Williams will take it. Kelly Smith standing offside at the

moment. That will go straight through and it is easy for somebody

who is played for her country over a hundred times, Hedvig Lindahl.

Chelsea need a quick response. Lovely turn by Losada who is having

a very good final. This is Oshoala. She goes through the gears and goes

for goal. Losada has been excellent. That was a lovely ball and Oshoala

will knock it past you with her pace. She could have played into

Kelly Smith but she went for goal. They showed their quality.

Brilliant, and expensive slip in the middle and it almost came through

and it will do now! Off the bar! Offside anyway, it didn't count. But

the fact that there was a slip inside the area let Smith nearly in

for a second for Arsenal. What a lovely bit of skill from Oshoala.

She decides to cross it this time. The slip allowed Kelly Smith... She

was offside. You wonder if she could have played it along the floor. It

would have been a free shot on target for Kelly. Another chance for

Arsenal. A couple at the start of the second half for Arsenal. The

lead is slender. This is Smith. The cross looking for Nobbs. She is

caught in the Continental cup final a couple of times last season -- she

scored. It is all Arsenal at the start of

the second half, as it was largely at the first. I think Losada will be

very close to winning player of the match.

The next goal in this game could have a massive effect. If Arsenal

get a second, you cannot see Chelsea coming back into it but if Chelsea

can equalise, with the options they have, you could see them going on to

win it. The fact that they have Eni Aluko on the bench as well. She will

come on with a point to prove. Stoney, such a good player over the

years. Still part of the England setup. Again, Arsenal looking to

send Oshoala away to take on Borges. It is obviously something they said

at half-time, to get it out wide right and run the defender. We saw

Ana Borges coming forward in the first half, the Chelsea left-back.

Defensively... Going forward she looks decent but defensively she

looks to be suspect against Oshoala. I'm surprised Claire Rafferty isn't

in there. This was brilliant skill from Oshoala. This is how

unpredictable she is, she can do something amazing and then obviously

missed, I wouldn't call it an easy chance, but she should have done

better with it. If she can be consistent, she can be top-class.

Here she is again. Smith. Carter waiting and she is onside. Back into

the middle and off the legs of the goalkeeper. She was looking for

Oshoala coming in. Lindahl got something on it. It was Borges

playing her onside. Tough to call. Was Carter going for gold? I think

so. -- for goal. That was a let off for Lindahl. She was a cup winner in

Sweden. Also a runner-up. Plenty of experience of the big occasions.

Ji has had a disappointing final by her standards so far. That is credit

to Arsenal, they have stopped her playing every time she has got the

ball. They have targeted the key players so welcome not allowing them

to get on the ball and bossing the midfield which is what they needed

to do. They have got the game plan spot on. That was a bit of a cynical

foul from Kelly Smith she knew what she was doing, as Chelsea get ready

to bring on Eni Aluko. Another foul. I wonder if Arsenal will regret

those two missed chances at the start of this half. Arsenal, high

press in the first half, have they run themselves into the ground? Will

Chelsea get stronger as the game goes on? That is aimed towards

Millie Bright, Chapman got in front of her. It will bounce for Jordan

Nobbs. Mitchell. Carter, Williams, she has had a good

game. Lovely turn by Nobbs. Aluko waiting on that far side. I

just wonder who will go off. It could be Karen Carney, Gemma

Davison, Fran Kirby, she can play all across the front three. I am

hedging my bets! It would not surprise me if Karen Carney goes

off. They could put Fran Kirby into a

wider position and Aluko through the middle or put Aluko out wide. They

can interchange so well. They are constantly moving and that is why

they are normally so difficult to defend against. I think they had to

commit more bodies forward than they have been doing, Chelsea. And they

need that quality when they are going forward. Bright. That is not a

good ball. What we do know is that Eni Aluko will come on, four goals

already this season in seven games. She had a super final last year and

she won the cup against Chelsea for Birmingham back in 2012. She scored

the winner in the 2005 cup final for Charlton against Everton. It is

Karen Carney coming off. She will be bitterly disappointed. Aluko is a

different sort of player. I don't think Carney has had any sort of

supply, she wanted to be able to dribble at players. We have seen Eni

Aluko coming on, especially for England, and she can change a game,

she has that pace and drive. And I said earlier, she will have a point

to prove, a real impact player. Here she is. She has that searing pace.

Kelly Smith brought back down well. They almost gave it back to her.

This is Losada. Into the feet of Oshoala. Good defending by Chapman.

Hasn't she covered some ground? She is really trying to lead by example.

They need a lift, a spark of brilliance or a good tackle like

that. Working hard for her team to get them back into this. Arsenal's

fourth corner of the game. Chelsea are yet to have one. It comes, easy

header away. And now Chelsea look to the pace of Eni Aluko. Head down and

carrying. It would have been a difficult ball, had she looked up,

Hannah Blundell had made a great run on the far side but a very difficult

ball to get across to her. She has not necessarily done a bad job for

her team. Kirby. Ji. Borges. Scott was there, she has had a good game.

Out wide to Oshoala almost but this is Ji.

Given away. Chelsea on the counter... Cleared by Henning.

Williams digs it out. This is a decent spell for Chelsea, even if

they are not really creating. That's given away very poorly by Ana

Borges. Blundell went to ground and timed it well. She needed to. We

have not seen too much of Blundell going forward, but she anticipated

that well. I think you said it earlier - Chelsea need to commit

more players forward. Front three needs to be closer together. It is

such a big pitch, there is not many female players who can do that long

diagonal ball out wide. Arsenal have kept three clean sheets in eight

matches this season. That is a worry for Chelsea, of course. Chelsea's

last domestic fleet, 1-0 at Birmingham in the WSL Up in

September of last year. That is last time Chelsea failed to score in a

domestic came. She has had a very good final, she has had a very good

season. I think she has been one of the only players who has remained a

constant in the Arsenal team. She was on an episode of Pointless on

the BBC, alongside Hope Powell and Graeme Le Saux. I think they went on

to win it. I wouldn't know, we were already in a taxi on the way home,

having gone out in the first round. My answer was so appalling, the

music could not even get going. Very similar position to the Arsenal

goal, but this one went wide. That's exactly what she was trying to do.

Good ball out by Ji, and she wants to get on her right foot. Exactly

the same as Dan Carter did in the first half. Just couldn't get quite

enough on it. On the hour at Wembley, Arsenal still leading 1-0.

Aluko has two goals against Arsenal in the past, including in the FA Cup

semifinal. Davison has had a quiet final so

far. But they are beginning to get on top here, Chelsea. Arsenal being

forced to defend deeper and deeper, looking to counter. Oshoala, surely

this time! Oh, the touch was very heavy! And another chance has come

and gone! Arsenal should have been two, three, even four up. Kelly

Smith, again, creating the opportunity. This was a good first

touch, bad second touch, just giving Lindahl the chance to come out and

make herself big. She actually did really well to save it with her leg

in the end, I think it was. That's three chances for Arsenal, maybe

four. Three big ones to her in the game. Still young, at 21. Goalkeeper

came, went back, another corner for Arsenal.

Katie Chapman does such a good job defending in her own penalty area.

She has had a remarkable career. Seven FA Cup 's. She made that

statement when she retired from England duty back in March 2011, in

a row over childcare costs. She won that will and she is back in. -- she

won that battle. I thought that was in. It was a lovely ball in. Henning

manages to in front of everybody but just cannot direct her head. Got to

defend better than that, Chelsea. Chelsea can in a Ford any sort of

ghastly mistake at this stage. -- can ill afford. Cannot ever remember

Josephine Henning scoring - for anyone. Smith was so

quick to cover the ground and force the corner. She looks really fit and

well and up for the occasion. She does, she looks very sharp. I know

she hasn't played a couple of the WSL games which she would have liked

to have played. I think he has been looking after her, making sure she

is fit and healthy, like you say. Headroom knows how important Kelly

Smith is to this Arsenal team. And I think she's been excellent so far.

The referee is running back to the halfway line. What is Sarah Garret

doing here? There is another flag being brought on.

Good cross in! Really good move by Arsenal again. Chelsea need to get

it away in a hurry. She has had an excellent game, the Spanish

international Losada. Chapman, for Chelsea. Henning needed

to get to that second ball quickly, because Kirby was coming in.

Williams dumped to the turf by Millie Bright. That was a definite

foul! Just getting a bit frustrated. This was the chance earlier. Losada,

Fara Williams, Kelly Smith, they have all been involved in everything

good that Arsenal have done. Losada has been excellent. Another run in

there by the 25-year-old, Spanish cup winner with Barcelona. It has

been a feature of Arsenal's campaign, as they look for her

again. She is offside there, but she has made great runs from deep

positions, knowing that Fara Williams and Jordan Nobbs if

necessary would drop back in and cover. They have to have a good

understanding, the midfield three. They need to cover each other. But

you just wonder, how long can Arsenal maintain this intense, high

pressing game? It's difficult to do that, no matter how fit you are.

England manager Mark Sampson is here looking on. It will be interesting

for him to see Fara Williams working well with Jordan Nobbs, because has

played Fara Williams in wider positions. England game coming up,

tickets still available. Important to get those two combining well for

England. Jordan Nobbs in there again. She could not play a full

role in the World Cup last summer because she was injured. They have

combined well today. They have, and I much prefer Fara Williams in a

central role. I don't think she can be as effective and wide. She cannot

get on the ball as much. We have seen today her quality when she does

get on the ball. She is pivotal in everything Arsenal do. In recent

meetings between the two sides, Chelsea have dominated. Have won the

last two. Arsenal have only won one of their last seven meetings. And

Chelsea nearly always score against Arsenal, scoring two or more in five

of the last seven, keeping three clean sheets in the last four. So

this is a turn-up. Arsenal have dominated possession, they have

created more chances, but that's the big question on a big occasion -

will a team get tired? Play the match and not the occasion, Sue,

that's what they say. And it's very true. And Arsenal have got a lot of

experienced players out there who have been and played the big

occasions. And you can tell. Blustery old day at Wembley. Chilly

in the shadows. Kelly Smith is in the Spotlight again, which is good

to see. Wonderful player over the years. One of the pillars of English

women's football. There have been of course many others, leading the way,

Pathfinders, over the years, who should be remembered, I think, as

women's football develops in England and in the UK at a fantastic rate.

Aluko, is this her chance? Very good covering challenge by Casey Stoney.

Chelsea 's first corner of the game, in the 70th minute. This is

excellent defending from Casey Stoney. She reads the game so well.

She has had a really good game. Ji could score! But doesn't! They

haven't had many opportunities. Time is dribbling away, they might not

get many more, and that was a big one! It was, and if there is a

player you want it to fall to in the box, it is one! . I have seen her

score so many good goals from that position. She just can't get over

it. -- it is Ji! I just think the Chelsea players

need to play closer together. Is there a problem here with the

goalkeeper? She hasn't really had a great deal to do. She is saying it

is her knee. I suppose one bonus is the fact that they have got Emma

Byrne, who reserve 'keeper and an excellent 'keeper. Who has won the

cup nine times, including 2014. Eight league titles. She is

approaching 400 league games. The fact that Emma Byrne isn't playing,

you know that van Veenendaal must be an excellent 'keeper. To have two

goalkeepers like that in your squad, you must be very lucky. Emma Byrne

has not played this season for Arsenal because of the form of van

Veenendaal. Pedro Martinez Losa is going to make two substitutions now.

Janssen has had a very good season so far and she will come on in

midfield. Dominique Janssen, the Dutch international. The other

substitute is van de Donk. She played on the left in the recent

league game between the teams. I think Arsenal need fresh legs

because there are signs that are tiring. And I think that is because

how much they have worked in this game. I have been really impressed

with Janssen this season. It is unfortunate she is competing for a

position with Fara Williams because she will sit. I don't know if she

will come on for Williams, but she played a similar role protecting the

back four. Van de Donk has skill on the ball and can make things happen.

Fresh legs is exactly what they need. I think she will come on for

Kelly Smith. Danielle van de Donk is the shorter of the two girls. This

is a sensible move, a fresh pair of legs. Another Dutch international,

she has scored nine times. What a final Kelly Smith had, crucial that

she could start. She has had an excellent final, and she was just

giving some information to van de Donk, to hold the ball up but also

to turn and have a go. That experience on and off the field has

been vital. A fresh pair of legs. No comment on Fara Williams's display

because she has had a terrific match, with American football style

quarterback Passos flung around the pitch. The fact that Arsenal have

that quality to come on. -- passes. You can work your socks off and you

know your replacement coming on is going to be of good quality and can

make things happen. Van de Donk has three goals this season, all against

Sunderland in the cup semifinal. She will chase. They signed her from

Gothenburg in Sweden, she had had a good spell at Eindhoven before that

where she scored every other game. She has not played since the league

match against Chelsea when she was disappointing. Carter tries to

switch it to Oshoala. Chelsea seem to be making a move as

well. Bethany England might be coming on. You know her very well. I

do. Quarter of an hour left at Wembley.

Davison running a long way and skips beyond Mitchell. Good defending

again by Stoney, covering behind the full-back and the cross comes to

nothing. Stoney has had an excellent game. They have had some good

individual performances. Defensively they have been absolutely solid. It

has allowed the front players to go forward and create things. You can

pick out so many Arsenal players who have had a good game and that has

been the difference as they have won their individual battles. Oshoala.

Challenged by Borges. Had she taken her chances, Arsenal

would have been home and hosed by now.

They will be in no hurry now to get things going. Good run by van de

Donk and a little chip! It almost beat the goalkeeper, from Losada.

Lindahl flung up our hand. Losada deserves a goal, she has changed

back again and got a vital touch as Davison tried to bring it away for

Chelsea. Losada has had a really good game, the Arsenal midfielder

has been absolutely key. Kirby has been starved of any genuine service.

This was the chance. I think she was trying to end it to the far post and

it almost went in. -- trying to dink it. Millie Bright has gone off and

best England has come on. -- Beth England. She was instrumental for us

at Doncaster last year but wanted to come to Chelsea to step up to that

level. She is a top quality player. Very good in the air and she has

scored a few goals for Chelsea. The shot is deflected, it comes to the

substitute, shot blocked by Alex Scott.

They are looking for England again. Janssen got it away and now Arsenal

can counter with Carter, chased by Blundell, she needs support, van de

Donk arriving in the middle, Danielle Carter, the shot blocked,

can she release Oshoala? That is wide.

That is what Dan Carter has done all afternoon. She had been on the front

foot, wanting to take players on and she has been positive in everything

she has done. Another standout player if we had to pick one.

I think all of her hundred family and friends will be impressed with

what they have seen. Alex Scott under a bit of pressure

from Eni Aluko. Good interception by Janssen, this

is Ji. Into the last ten minutes. Good covering down the left-hand

side for Arsenal. The highest attendance for a women's

cup final, 32,912, beating the record from last season, that is

tremendous stuff. Enjoying the sunshine. It is great to see, a real

family affair. And your size seven jacket didn't quite do the job for

me! Up towards Aluko. Nice backheel.

Borges. She was taken down rather cynically. Yellow card for Oshoala.

I don't think she can argue with that one. It was very clumsy. It was

a nice backheel from Aluko. And Borges, she can get forward,

defensively not at her best today but going forward...

Ji with the free kick. Eight minutes left for Chelsea. They have created

so little. If this comes back of the

goalkeeper, Aluko marked pounds. The goalkeeper punches under no great

pressure -- po. Good clearance from Carter. Her goal still separates the

teams. 14 goals in all competitions last

season for Doncaster. Scored against them in March in Chelsea's 4-1 win.

Emma Hayes. Double winners last season. His team might deny them the

opportunity in 2016. Up goes Borges. A foul on Chapman but she is so

strong and determined. There is a yellow card now for Beth England.

Only 21, she turns 22 in June. This is the foul, it was Katie Chapman

initially winning the ball. It was just a clumsy tackle. Sometimes when

you come on you are quite over aroused and you want to prove a

point and show what you can do. I think that was one of those,

technically she is an excellent player and if you can get her on the

ball she will show what quality she has. Wanted to test herself at a

higher level, that is why she moved to Chelsea. As we mentioned at the

top of the commentary, this is the new Chelsea kit. I gather we will

see them in this next season. Arsenal are now taking their time.

Very calm, Emma Hayes. Van de Donk. Gets the return. Won

back right Chapman but that will be a throw in to Chelsea.

Ji. Nothing on upfront at all, as to go back to Niamh Fahey. Look at the

pressure Arsenal are still exerting hike up the pitch on Chelsea. They

have worked tremendously hard today. It has not been a good start to the

season for Arsenal. But if they hold onto this lead it would be another

remarkable day for them in the Women's FA Cup. 14 victories, nine

in their last 13 finals, in the last 13 finals, I should say. They have

only ever lost one final themselves and have dominated this competition

since the early 90s. Oshoala, is to hold will stop van de Donk was

offside. She felt she was fouled -- has the hold.

Who would be your player of the match? It is a difficult one to pick

out because Arsenal have had so many quality performances. Casey Stoney

has been immense, by Williams, Kelly Smith. You have mentioned Losada a

few times. I have had to go with Dan Carter, for her individual solo

effort for the goal, I have to go with her, she has been quality on

the ball and that goal was special. Dan Carter, Player Of The Match, in

the SSE Women's FA Cup Final 2016. Time is short now for Chelsea.

Nothing on for Fahey. That looked like a frustrated ball, lacking in

invention and quality. That has been the problem I think with Chelsea.

They have needed a bit more quality going forward. It is a surprise,

because of the players they have got. Off goes Oshoala, and on comes

Leah Williamson, just 19, from Milton Keynes. She joined Arsenal as

a nine-year-old. Katie Chapman trying to get Oshoala off the pitch

quicker. She was young Player of the Year, was it last season, Leah

Williamson? Won the FA Youth Cup with Arsenal in 2013 against

Blackburn. She is an England under 23 player. Very much to add some

defensive security. Chapman plays down the line, looking for Kirby.

Cleared by the excellent Vicky Losada. Chapman gets it back. Driven

forward by Carter. Arsenal are working so hard back

there. Cross comes in from Borges. Through to the goalkeeper in the

end. And they simply have not worked Sari van Veenendaal anywhere hard

enough. Again, it is the quality. There is plenty of players in the

box. Got to try and pick one of them out. Arsenal have played very well,

Sue, Chelsea have underperformed. They really have, and they will

think that as well. I have seen them so many times this season, and they

have been excellent. Today they will be disappointed, on such a big

occasion. But credit to Arsenal. Eventually, that one goes wide. We

have four minutes of stoppage time announced. That was a half chance.

Gemma Davison took it upon herself. Fran Kirby, bit of a snapshot on the

volley, just could not get it on target. Is that the first attempt

she has had since she had the one-to-one in the first half? I

think it is. No-one has done more for Chelsea than Chapman in

midfield. You can see what this means to her. Three times she won

the cup for Arsenal. Was she taken down there? Well, Chelsea certainly

had a claim. Oh, and the 'keeper very nearly got herself into a

terrible bit of trouble there. What was she doing? She had two options,

she could have just passed the ball out to them. You get it out wide

there, don't you? Yes! Ji has not been able to escape her shackles

throughout the game. Arsenal's game plan, to pressurise her wherever

they can - and they have done. And that has been the sort of result.

Chapman has been excellent for Chelsea, really excellent. Ji... Is

it too little, too late, from the double winners? We're halfway

through stoppage time. Gemma Davison on the outside... Forces the corner.

At long last, Gemma Davison is running at her opponent. Chelsea in

a hurry - can they force extra time? Chapman up from behind. Ji...

Arsenal with everyone back. Aluko tries to thread it through. In the

end, van Veenendaal makes a comfortable save. Fahey was forward,

and it was a lovely ball to her by a Aluko. Great vision from Aluko. Just

too little, too late. You think, why did Chelsea not to do this a little

bit of sooner? Getting it out wide to Gemma Davison, who is creating

things. And we are in the last unit of stoppage time.

This has to go long - it doesn't. What a mix-up that is! Dan Carter,

holding possession. If Arsenal keep the ball, they will win the cup.

They know that. Jordan Nobbs gets it back into the corner flag area.

Chelsea nearly getting themselves into trouble again. This time it

does come out to Ji. No more intense as -- no more than ten seconds or so

left. This is the last attack of the game, surely. And Arsenal have won

it! The record holders of the FA Cup have won another trophy! Their 14th

FA Cup success! They had the only goal-scorer, in Dan Carter. They

have the 2016 FA Cup! It's strange to see say, because of their

illustrious history, that they were underdogs, but they were. And they

have shown exactly just what they can do. They have shown what they

can do if Pedro Martinez Losa picks the right team and gets his tactics

white, which he has done. And the players give absolutely everything,

hard work and the quality on the ball. That has been the difference.

Chelsea did not have that quality going forward - something I have not

said about Chelsea all season. Well, another success for the remarkable

Kelly Smith. She didn't score for a seventh time in a cup final. As

ever, looking calm, even though she was on the defeated side. Emma Hayes

walks away in a dignified manner. She does, and her players really

play for her. She is a very good man manager, and she will be readers

appointed, because she knows the players she has got, they didn't

perform. Whether the occasion got to them, whether Arsenal were just a

bit at on the day. They have a point to prove. Everybody was talking

about the top two teams in the league, Chelsea and city. Arsenal

wanted to show today that they were just as good as them. For Smith, it

is a fifth FA Cup triumph. Jo is down with Player Of The Match Dan

Carter. How does it feel? It is amazing, this is my fourth time

winning it, but to do it at Wembley, it is amazing. Arsenal came

sprinting out at the beginning of the match - was that the plan? I

think it had to be. The performances we have put in at the beginning of

the season have not been good enough. Hopefully we can kick on

from now. Where does that goal rank in your career? I think it is right

up there, to get the winner at Wembley! It is something I have

dreamt of! You're not just an FA Cup winner, you're also the SSE Player

Of The Match. Congratulations! Cheers! The fourth time she has won

the FA Cup. She is only 22. It seems a little bit unfair on all of the

other players! But of course, she is an Arsenal player, and it is what

they do. Rachel Yankey, you have won it yourself nine times with them.

How much of this do you think was down to psychology, with Arsenal for

once being the underdogs? Yes, psychology, tactics... As I said at

the beginning, it is a lot of pressure on Chelsea to go out there

and be the top team, be the ones that everyone thinks will go and win

it. And you have got to live up but expectation, which is not easy. I

have been in that situation many times, and you kind of have to let

it go whilst knowing that it is happening. Arsenal, being underdogs,

all you can do is play your best and win, so you're in a win-win

situation. They have gone out there and totally dominated the game. A

fully deserve it. A fantastic goal by Dan Carter, they got it spot on

today. Underdogs because of the league form, Rachel Brown, eye

Manchester City have been winning all of our games... We will come

back to that because we can now hear from the Arsenal winning manager,

Pedro Martinez Losa, with Jo. Arsenal, FA Cup winners, how does it

feel? Unbelievable. Wembley is red. I thank all of the players for their

effort. I hope all of the fans will be proud of us. What was the secret

behind the win today? The secret is the team, staying together in

difficult moments, and having confidence in yourself, in your

players. No questions at any moment, if them confidence to play on this

big pitch, play good football - and we won. That was some goal by Dan

Carter? Yes, I think we have more opportunities, especially in the

first half, we could have got a couple more. Chelsea in the second

half were very good, but I think we deserve the win. Congratulations.

Thank you very much. His first FA Cup Final victory. Rachel Brown, we

were talking before the game about, supposedly underdogs because of

their league form is all they have fierce competitors in the likes of

Casey Stoney, Ferrari Williams and Kelly Smith, who had won so much,

but still so desperate to win, was that key? I think it was. Players

who have won and lost the FA Cup, they know what it means. I remember

playing against Arsenal numerous times, and when it came to clutch

games, regardless of current form, Arsenal were always the favourites.

There wasn't some sort of psychology where they tended to dominate and

really show up for big games. The likes of Kelly Smith, Casey Stoney,

Alex Scott, always bringing that wealth of experience, along with

someone who is not there today on the pitch, Rachel Yankey! But that

depth of experience and that application to take the game to

Chelsea is what has won it today for Arsenal. And it was fully deserve.

OK, well, the teams are starting to make their way up to the Royal Box.

It is the first time they will be doing this at Wembley. Back to

Jonathan Pearce. JONATHAN PEARCE: Yes, it is a

different sort of walk for Arsenal. For Chelsea of course as well, who

walked up those steps to lift the trophy last season, this year, it

will be the runners-up medals. It is a long, convoluted walk in the new

stadium, going up the steps, disappearing for a while, coming

back into public view. Arsenal's name will be on that trophy. Katie

Chapman worked so hard, denied an eighth success in this competition.

Nobody worked harder than her. SUE SMITH: She was everywhere. She

was defending her box, trying to attack in the other box. There just

wasn't enough Katie Chapmans in the Chelsea team. They did not perform

how we know they can. Sarah Garratt, the referee, and her assistants they

did well? I thought they did very well. All female line-up, which is

nice to see. Up go Chelsea. The new stadium is of course spectacular,

but I wonder who it was who decided that it would take 3.5 days to get

up there?! After having played 90 minutes as well! Arsenal will be

lifting the cup for a record 14th time. Nine out of the last 13

finals. There is Katie Chapman and behind

her Hedvig Lindahl who had no chance for the goal. Millie Bright as well.

A hug from Vic acres, who she will know so well from the Arsenal days

-- Vic Akers. They won 33 major trophies under Vic Akers. Ji did not

really get into the final. All credit to Arsenal. They stopped them

playing, identifying the key players for Chelsea. Every time they got the

ball there were Arsenal players around them stopping them playing

and stopping them facing forward. You would normally play Alex
