World Cup Qualifier: England v Bosnia Women's Football: Internationals

Hello from the very chilly Banks's

Stadium in Walsall for this match

between England and Bosnia. Mark

Sampson was still in charge when the

Lionesses began their qualifying

campaign that impressive six

tailwind win over Russia. A lot has

happened since then. -- 6-0 win.

Gets the girl! England are ahead.

Nikita Parris runs straight to the

manager, Mark Sampson. This is the

togetherness of the group and he is

visibly moved.

Mark Sampson has been

sacked as manager of the England

women's football team. A great

opportunity for me and I am very

appreciative.

I had my meeting with

Martin Glenn and he effectively

suggested that if I wrote a

statement, a favourable statement

saying that the FA are not

institutionally racist, they would

think about releasing money. I felt

that was bordering on blackmail.

We

have to offer a full and reserve or

apology to Eniola Aluko.

I have had

no communication from my team-mates,

by the Chelsea girls. I should not

be sitting here saying that to you.

-- apart from the Chelsea girls.

So

much has happened since September,

you heard Eni Aluko saying she was

upset and has deterred from her

team-mates, a lot has gone on and

off the pitch, will any of that have

affected the preparation inside the

camp?

I think so, in the past but

the players are focused on the game

tonight, they have to put this to

bed, this is a massive game and they

have to pick up three points and the

main focus is the football and

nothing else.

Mo Marley is in

charge, obviously through the under

19 team she has a knowledge of the

players and the system, is she the

right one to lead them through these

qualifiers?

Definitely, she has been

with everyone, all of these young

girls in the team, I played under Mo

and she is a manager that you want

to play for, she gives you the

confidence and belief and most of my

football education was under Mo, she

is a passionate about coaching and

she will be looking forward to

tonight, it is a big game.

We are

expecting a sell-out crowd and we

can hear from Mo Marley.

Personally,

this is a proud moment? The first

time you have been in charge of the

team for a competitive match.

It is

brilliant. I have come through the

pathway with regard to female

coaches, transitioning from a

player, being able to do different

levels and all age groups and the

pinnacle is being with the

first-team and a World Cup Qualifier

and hopefully I can play a key role

getting the job done.

in World Cup qualification action,

you can watch that clash against

Kazakhstan on the Red Button and

online and Bosnia Herzegovina,

England met them in the build-up for

the qualification for Euro 2017 and

that was tough, they did not score a

hat of goals but tonight perhaps

different tactics?

Good evening. Go

with Mo. Even though the upheaval of

the summer still has its hook into

the setup, Eni Aluko claiming that

she has been ignored by her

team-mates. Fascinating to hear the

other England players and I believe

there will be other relations

tomorrow. There will be no winners

from this controversy and England

need to beat this Bosnia Herzegovina

side who were very difficult to beat

in the European qualifiers, digging

in very deep. Mahrez says questions

concerning her future are also

immaterial, now is the time to focus

on winning this one. -- Mali. And

winning on Tuesday against

Kazakhstan. This will be an awkward

night for England and they might

need to be very patient lovely,

enthusiastic crowd. They don't care

what has happened in the past, they

want to win.

And the focus has to be

on the game and getting those three

points, which is what the players

want, that is what they were

thinking. As we get ready for the

national anthems.

Steph Houghton jiggles around and

gets prepared to lead her team of

Lionesses. This Bosnia and

Herzegovina side, Mo Marley is

likely to give the whole squad a

chance. The first cap for Carter.

Create a little bit of space in

behind with the likes of Jodie

Taylor. Also in tonight, Greenwood,

Christiansen, Kirby and Parris, who

scored early against... Seven of the

Bosnian team played against England

in their defeat in 40-15. One change

from the opening World Cup

Qualifier, another defender comes in

for the forward, Kadric. Look at

that line-up. Five of the team play

for the FSK side that have won 15

domestic titles in a row and that is

coached by the national manager.

Samira Huren, who was also a

midfielder for Bosnia and

Herzegovina. We were in the rain at

Ashton Gate that night and they made

it very difficult.

They will be the

same tonight, they will sit back and

make it very difficult for England,

they are very well organised and

physical and England at times did

get frustrated and that is something

they have to make sure they don't

get frustrated, they keep to the

tactics that I am sure Mo Marley

will have given them, and they have

key players.

They can unlock a very

stubborn defence. Unbeaten in 65

qualifying matches in European

championships but in the World

Championships, defeat against France

in the 2003 play-off, they kept 24

consecutive clean sheets in

qualifiers until Belgium scored

against them in the last Euro

qualifiers. The referee from Poland.

And Toni Duggan. And what form she

is in at the moment for Barcelona.

She is high on confidence and

enjoying her football and she needed

a change, a fresh start and

Barcelona have given her that and

that play on the ball is what she

wanted to do.

The dangerous player

for Bosnia and Herzegovina. She

scored the second goal, she took

that well. Driving it against

Kazakhstan. England will kick us off

and underwear, they have brought

Duggan on late in Bosnia in the away

game with about four minutes left.

She changed things dramatically

within 60 seconds, England and in

the game through Karen Carney. This

is an experienced England bench

today. An experienced squad. Karen

Carney is there but Jo Potter and

Scott and Taylor. And off we go. All

in white and kicking from left to

right in the first half. They look

for Parris. She breezes beyond her

marker. Looking for Kirby. Norms in

a deeper position. She will hold the

midfield and Kristiansen and Kirby

will make the runs from deeper

positions to link up with Dan

Carter. That is the plan for

England. What do you make of this

formation and the line-up?

When I

saw those three central midfielders

I wondered who was going to hold

because you have three players who

like to drive and attack but Jordan

Nobbs is good in this position, she

has that vision.

Lovely ball over

the top, Kirby is behind, squares

it. They should get it away.

That

was great timing.

Seslija is operating on the

left-hand side. And the wing bank

against Kazakhstan is screening.

Ultra-defensive. Beggan placer

football in Sweden. And she has

fouled Kirby and this is a free kick

won by an England player looking to

score her 100th senior goal in 101

senior games for club and country.

Fran Kirby felt that push in her

back and she went down. And this is

where England can capitalise.

This

team is ranked over 60 places below

England in the world. But they are

resolute at the back. Kristiansen

did brilliantly with Man City. That

was a good claim by Hadzic, she was

terrific at Ashton Gate. She had a

terrific game.

She is very good and

commanding, she will collect things

like that. You have to make sure you

keep that away from the goalkeeper.

England have gone with 27 qualifiers

in all conditions since losing

against France. In the play-off. To

the -- 2002.

Houghton sitting very close to pinch

on in the European finals. She was

working in the Netherlands that

summer. Here is Christiansen. Bronze

plays in France at the moment for

Lyon. Scored a couple of goals for

Parris Saint-Germain. 100 caps for

her country, Houghton. Just grabbed

a way out of play. The reason she

has gone into night, Stokes will

play on Tuesday, is because of the

qualities she can get from the

left-hand side.

Fantastic left foot

and she has been playing really well

for Liverpool this season.

Mo Marley

called me last night and I thought

it was a wind-up, I thought it was

you! You sound identical. I had a

laugh about it and she said, no, Sue

comes from the posh end of the

street!

That is so true!

Disappointing to see Kulis in a deep

position for Bosnia and Herzegovina,

playing on the left-hand side of

defence.

She was one of their best

players, tricky on the ball and

could make things happen but you can

see this is exactly what they were

set up to do.

England give Jordan

Nobbs space in the centre of

midfield and she could have a go at

the goal. She scored a terrific to

four Mo Marley's Young England side

in the underlying teens. Against

Sweden, all those years ago. Coming

short for the ball, Toni Duggan. On

sparkling form for Barcelona. She is

their top scorer in Champions League

football this season. Here is

Parris. Lovely return and Nikita

Parris is in behind. I don't think

that was a penalty.

But I think it

was very good player and great

movement from Nikita Parris, this is

what you have to do against a team

that will be stubborn and put

players behind the ball, move the

ball quickly. Great ball from

Christiansen and that was a good

challenge.

goals in that time. -- played her

last six games.

Away by the centre forward, Nikolic.

In Germany, she is the best-known of

players.

Away it goes again and they all get

behind the ball. That is a lovely

ball and Parris could not bring that

down. Long from the halfway line.

Nikita Parris.

This is a great

crossfield ball from Steph Houghton.

Nikita Parris looks dangerous, she

was caught in two minds. Shelley had

their first time or try to control

it? She could not quite do either.

-- should I hit it the first time.

Kirby. She was fouled, taken down.

Such a physical side, as soon as

England get the ball, but was

definitely a foul. Fran Kirby has a

change of pace to draw that foul.

Experienced as well. Only 20, plays

in Hungary but was ever present in

the European Championship qualifier.

Here is Greenwood. She might even

have a go at the goal here, she

scored a couple the season for

Liverpool. She has gone for the far

post. She hit the roof of the net!

Alex Greenwood, high on confidence

from her club football, she has

scored a couple of those. A little

bit too late, aiming for the far

corner.

They did learn about Kadric,

at Ashton Gate, she will punch the

ball.

They were following in very

quickly. At times was questionable.

Nikolic with delay. Parris. Taking

on Kulis on the outside. I was

disappointed that I did not stand

for the national anthem, we have to

explain that the commentary position

is right amongst the crowd. You

would need a crane to lift me out of

my seat! Not a pleasant thought if

you are eating your tea! I am

squeezed into a seat that is tied

even for you! And you are three foot

two. And a half!

She played left side centre-back

with three against Kazakhstan,

Lihovic. She is up there in attack

and this time the run... She has

also changed her hairstyle. She was

the one that had your type of hair.

Can you remember? She had a blonde

hint to her hair and I think she has

changed it for this game.

There are one or two tickets left

for the Kazakhstan game at

Colchester on Tuesday, Nikita Parris

will not believe the decision went

that way anyway. Here is

Christiansen. Plans today to play a

crucial, pivotal game in the group

against Wales at home at St Mary's

on the 26th of April. Down at

Southampton.

Mo Marley definitely going with you.

She knew Jordan Nobbs all the way

from the under 15 level. Great ball

from the Arsenal player, looking for

Duggan. Nobbs revels in this role.

Greenwood. Takes the cross in.

Jordan Nobbs likes to get on the

ball, she is always an option in

that role, especially the way that

Bosnia Herzegovina are playing, she

has a time and space to pick the

pass.

She was captain of the under

15 is for England when she was 13

and captain of the Under 17 is when

she was 14, Jordan Nobbs. It is not

just the experience of coaching

these players at that level, they

also work together at Loughborough

and Mo Marley was the coach at

Loughborough. That is where she

knows a lot of these players. Lucy

Bronze skipping beyond the

challenge. Christiansen. Will she

win the race? No.

She has won eight titles in a row.

They are the dominant side in

Bosnian football. Already well

cleared. This season, nine points

clear. They played 11, 31 points, 70

goals, nothing conceded. There is a

player in this team with an even

better club record. I will come onto

her in a minute. She played football

in the eastern part of Europe in

women's games, at league level, way

behind the likes of England and

France and Germany and Sweden.

Bronze on the overlap. Maybe that is

why they are playing her, she has

the turn of pace to watch those runs

from Lucy Bronze?

I think so, as he

Bronze likes to play more like

forward at times and arrived back

and she sometimes England's best

attacking player.

Into the six yard area. In it comes.

Millie Bright has release editor

position in the side, 16 starts in

18 games. -- really cemented her

position.

That is really the

centre-back pairing. She has done so

well to work her way into that team

and you always say that it is

difficult to stay there but with

performances, she has been

outstanding.

That is good run from

Kirby. Just nipping at over the top.

Lovely play from Toni Duggan. Just

gliding past players. Just as she

was about to pull the trigger, that

was a fantastic interception.

I

think she is better in that

position, deeper, running at

defenders. Here is Greenwood. Right

with the header.

What about Fran

Kirby? Another player similar to

Jordan Nobbs, she wants to get onto

the ball and make things happen,

such quick feet and a great turn of

pace and her decision-making, that

sets apart from other players. She

tends to make the right decision at

the right times.

Greenwood. Steph

Houghton. Given the captaincy by

Mark Sampson. Carter, Duggan coming

to the right side. There was too

much pace on the return. What do you

make of those remarks by Eni Aluko

during the week that the England

players have not given her enough

support.

Are you surprised? I think

it is very difficult for the

players, the timing of the

announcement or the interview that

Eni Aluko did before and other

international fixture, you want to

be talking about football and the

players want to focus on the game

and this is something else for them

to talk about.

It is sad that Eni

Aluko feels that way. Terribly sad

situation all round. I know a lot of

you travel to watch England's

Lionesses. And I know how

disappointed a lot of you are. Mo

Marley, she says the door is open

for Eni Aluko to come back but it

would be enormously difficult for

her to walk back into the dressing

room.

Some of the players have

possibly said that.

Starfighter.

Houghton under pressure. The run

from Kulis into the box and that

might be a rare save but that was

saved decently by Siobhan

Chamberlain.

You have to be careful

not to overplay it because they have

pace when they go forward and they

will take shots from distance and

they will be looking for that

counterattack. Chamberlain is very

focused, she will make sure she

continues to do that throughout the

game because it is difficult as a

keeper when you have only had one

touch in 20 minutes.

Trying to work

out this Bosnia Herzegovina line-up

because it is not the one they

expected. The formation, I should

say. Personnel but not the

formation. She created the first

goal against Kazakhstan with that

lovely run across.

Greenwood. Towards Parris.

Yet to concede any goal. The number

three plays in Croatia. They have a

domestic league, they have played

eight, winning eight, but no away

goals. Duggan. Carter allowed to

turn. That is the plan, turn and

bring in other players. Kirby felt

she was fouled in the box by the

most experienced defender that

Bosnia have.

You can see that slight

touch on Fran Kirby. Been offered a

penalty?

I don't think so. Played

both games against England in the

qualifiers, Sabic. They might be a

fitness issue a rancher. Finding it

tough to break through. Carter has

come short to the ball. She has got

the touch and that is in! And the

captain gets it!

Steph Houghton, 18

minutes gone! Brilliant from Dan

Carter, who made that, she got the

ball and she was trying to beat her

player, to wrong-foot the player but

Steph Houghton is so dangerous at

set pieces. Dan Carter, short

corner, have a go. You ever get the

penalty or you create an opportunity

like that.

He said she punches, the

goalkeeper, she will not catch. She

punches here, under pressure but

Steph Houghton was there to follow

up. In the last game they did not

have players in that situation.

Early on tonight, that is exactly

what Mo Marley wanted from Dan

Carter, get it played, turn, run and

create chances for the others. At

the other end, Millie Bright is

through! That was good goalkeeping.

Nikolic stays down. They may get the

court -- the ball out of play comic.

She is in pain.

That is a good ball

forward. That is a great ball

forward, the first touch. Bright

misjudges that but Siobhan

Chamberlain is so quick off the

line, she can see that Millie Bright

is beaten. And she comes out

quickly. You can see that it is just

maybe how she lands?

She scored six

in their last European qualifying

campaign in six games.

She's a

She's a decent club player in

Germany. They're eighth in the table

this season.

I think she does a good

job up there as well, but it's at a

difficult one as well when you're

that lone striker, yet she holds the

ball well, quite athletic, she'll

look to get in beyond, like she did

there. She will cause problems given

the chance.

Really making them a

durable side. Coach of the national

side. She's played for a team and

her country. She is chair at her

club as well, she's a very

influential character in Bosnian

football. They know, England, they

can cause danger. Spahic.

Lovely bit of skill here. She's

trying to find just a little bit of

space. Some nutmeg is. They just

can't get past... That's what Bosnia

do very well, they double up. If you

pass one player, there's another

player coming in.

Now being picked

up on the edge of the box. In it

comes. She's made the run in there.

good player over the years for

could Duggan. A challenge on her.

of the post, I think. England close

England have got so many

threats now in the air. It's from a

fled Bosnia in the war years. Went

to the USA. Cheap played for

Worcester Academy, at a great club

called Holycross now. Played in both

those games against England. You can

Duggan. Parris trying to work out

why Lucy Bronze is out there. Lucy

Bronze had a big smile on her face.

They are enjoying themselves out

there, England. Can Parris keep it

in? She can. Flashes, the cross.

Terrific recovery save! At times she

punches like a crazed middleweight,

but I tell you what, her reactions

are terrific.

They really are,

initially it is a mistake by the

goalkeeper. You have no idea what

she's trying to do but the fact you

can get up so quickly and just

recover... Because I thought that

was a goal from Fran Kirby. A good

reaction save. If you'd got anywhere

either side that would have been a

goal.

Played well, Kirby, taking up

good position. Spahic. The keeper

has blocked it again! She's having

another one of those nights.

Charmed life at Ashton Gate. Fortune

favours the brave that night. Again,

she's turning up the resistance to

England. Keeping them at bay. That

pass from Parris to strong from Lucy

Bronze.

I spoke to a few midweek

about this game. That was the first

thing they said, the keeper is

really good, isn't she? Looks like

she's having another of those games.

Yes, at times she punches when she

should catch them and vice versa.

Some of her saves absolutely superb.

Is she in real trouble here, I

wonder. The recovery saved her,

that's clear. 29 years of age now.

Played most of the European

qualifiers. Played both games

against England. Well, not sure what

their plan B would be to chase a 1-0

deficit. They are a much improved

side to when we saw them before and

watching the tapes of the game in

Bosnia-Herzegovina. Karen Carney's

goal won that day.

I'm impressed how

well-organised they are. I think

they look a lot fitter, whether it's

something they focused on, the

ability to be able to keep their

shape.

Only won seven out of 41

World Cup qualifiers. Having never

qualified for the finals of any

major tournament. The last game was

just over 20 years ago, 20 years ago

in September they played away at

Slovakia, an inauspicious opening,

they were down 11-0. Rainbow laces.

The England players. Making a

statement there as well, I think.

It's good to see. Half an hour

played. Very nearly.

Bronze. Is there a better right

forward in the world?

I don't think

there are many, JP, and I think

she's getting better and better.

In

Colchester on Tuesday for the

Kazakhstan game. Wales in

Bosnia-Herzegovina on Tuesday. Don't

forget Wales against England at

Saint Mary 's... I imagine tickets

are on sale for that now. Quite

composed. Comfortable when they get

the ball. Much more so than they

were a couple of years ago. That was

the tall figure of one of the SF K

players, Krso. A little bit of

experience away. Aged 17 she went to

Potsdam, a very strong club in the

German game. Historically.

Houghton looking for Carter. Now

Nobbs. Carter coming short. Duggan

made the run in behind into the gap

vacated by Carter. Bronze.

Christiansen. Surely that should

have been a free kick. The referee

says, go on, England have it. In a

deeper position. Nobbs, Bronze, they

need to move the ball quickly

against such a packed defence.

It's made its way through to Parris.

Back again to Lucy Bronze. Back to

Kirby, having an excellent night,

cropping up all over the place. Out

again to Parris, who slipped. I'd

like to see it again but I don't

think... My first reaction if it

wasn't a penalty.

I think she slips

just as attacker had come in. What

England are doing well,

interchanging positions. One player

will go in, another will come

forward. The front three are moving.

They've got to do that to create

some sort of space. Fran Kirby

finding pockets of space in between.

This is a saw little one. Collision.

This is a penalty.

I don't think so.

Definitely not for me.

I'm going

to pick a random number thou, the

number 38, and I'll multiply it by

two. Get that result. Multiply it by

three. And then divide by six. It

comes back to 38. The or you're not

supposed to ask a lady her age!

Where is the lady? You don't look a

day over 29.

You can throw

the compliment back, you know? Mo

Marley, you know her well, even

before she came to this position,

with work together over the years,

you've always said, she is special,

Mo Marley.

I played in the same team

as Mo at England, she looked after

me. I roomed with her for a good

number of years. So I know her from

that but I also know her through

when she was manager at Everton,

playing at Everton. It's the type of

person she is, players want to play

for her. Fantastic coach. Just a

real, honest character. They are the

type of managers you want to play

for.

That you in a room, there can't

have been much quiet is to be

honest.

You would have subtitles

probably. Now, I would love her to

get the job. I think the girls said

that before the programme. Similar

sort of thing. I've not heard

anybody say a bad word about Mo

Marley.

Played for Everton, managed

Everton. Is she an Evertonian?

She

is, yes.

They are going through a torrid

time, aren't they, at the moment?

Greenwood... A call from the

captain.

First in just over a year, I think.

Here she is... Nearly won back. In

towards Christiansen, a good ball

forward. Composure from Carter at

the end. Scott, the ball stuck under

her feet.

She was trying to curl the

ball with the outside of her foot.

Good play from Christiansen, that's

what I like about her, she finds

those little bits of space and her

first touch is always forward.

Always positive.

Not quite a

capacity crowd here today because

they have to take certain seats out

for various reasons. Extra

broadcasters etc etc. They reckon

there will be just shy of 10,000

here. I believe it is a sell-out.

Can't see too many empty seats

around. Here is the captain once

again. Toni Duggan in great space on

the left hand side. Out to her...

Duggan. Put it down supremely well.

It is cleared away. She's such a

more mature player, more rounded

player. Simply from the benefit of

being in Barcelona for three or four

months.

She's absolutely loving her

time there.

Brimful of confidence

isn't she? Really bursting with it.

Nobbs looks for Bronze in behind,

makes some good runs. Carter holds

it up. Here is Christiansen, good

challenge on her. Houghton coming

forward to join in. Bronze. Nobbs.

Parris onside. It's the far post.

Carter was coming in, slithering in.

But contact. It goes wide. That was

the chance to give England a second

before half-time.

What a ball from

Jordan Nobbs. Parris is onside. The

play on the far side keeping her on.

She does well, get the ball just

across goal exactly where you want

it. Carter is just... Don't know if

she gets a touch on the ball. If the

defender gets a touch. What a great

vision from Jordan Nobbs. Slightly

ahead of her.

of the Year 2017, Jordan Nobbs. She

referred to her dad, Keith, we've

mentioned many times before. In

towards Duggan. A brilliant effort.

Brilliant effort. So close to

second.

Great effort from Toni

Duggan. Just hit the side netting.

That's what she can do. One touch,

one turn. Hit it as she's moving.

When she's playing on the left-hand

side she'll cut in on her favoured

right foot. What Toni Duggan has

done well is she's kept the web,

it's so important for England. Both

sides keep the width, try to create

space in the middle for others.

She's one of the players who's come

through the ranks with Mo Marley. In

the under 20 World Cup 2008 she

played. Good combination again.

Greenwood and Duggan on the

left-hand side for England. It's

been a much more open game than the

think she did. I think the

A decent player at international

level, she was quite an adventure as

midfield player, playing 24 games

for her country. She is building a

team, as I said before, that is

fairly difficult to beat these days.

I think she knows that if she set

her team up to come out and attacked

England, we would have a field day,

so she has to do this. It's sensible

on her behalf.

well, so tenacious.

She plays what

Potsdam second team, but a couple of

hat-trick for them. Not a first-team

player this season, has been in the

should roughly end the first half.

Your overall thoughts?

I think

England will be relatively happy

they got that goal, they got the

opening. I know last time in the

European qualification campaign they

were panicking that they are you

know, time was going on and they

couldn't get that elusive goal.

They've got Matt now so they can

relax. I think just second half,

quick movement, get the ball out

wide.

A little bit scrappy with Duggan and

Greenwood over there. That was one

back strongly by Christiansen. Nobbs

had an excellent first half. That

was a poor challenge. Kirby.

Acrobatics by the goalkeeper again.

A thrilling first half.

Hodzic. Fran

Kirby has been the key for England,

once she gets the ball you think

something is going to happen. Great

dribbling skills and she always

looks for that shot if she can take

the opportunity quickly.

England

have their tenth corner of the

first-half. Greenwood will take it.

They have been totally dominant but

the scoreline does not reflect that.

Bronze arriving. It is another

corner and we play on.

The referee

has been good. She has, England have

gone for the in swinging corner on

this side.

Lucy Bronze was so

dangerous at the World Cup with set

pieces and has scarcely featured

since then. She is strong and

powerful and nearly underneath that

again. Parris is offside and that

surely will be it. The

whistle-blowers, England lead, from

Steph Houghton after the keeper

punched out. But they have gone

close and they are well in command.

They need a couple more goals, at

half-time they have to settle for

just one.

A very similar experience for

England to about 12 years ago at

Ashton Gate, they finished 1-0 and

Bosnia were frustrated, today there

is no shortage of endeavour from Mo

Marley's team. Perhaps unlocking

Bosnia earlier in the game, but

perhaps feeling more confident that

more goals will come?

The pressure

is off and they have the goal but

England are facing a very well

organised side and we always knew

that. It was going to be hard to

break down but the pressure is off

some or in the second half, get the

ball wide, speed is important, keep

the ball moving and space will open

up.

Alex said she felt the tactics

were wrong that day and it was about

taking the game to Bosnia and

opening the game up a little bit and

letting Bosnia move out of their own

half and you can see how difficult

that is. When they have no intention

of doing anything other than parking

the boss.

Five and six at the back,

Fran Kirby is being man marked by

Spahic. Fran Kirby had a fantastic

first-half, she is effective. Nikita

Parris on the right-hand side has

been excellent, she just needs more

of an end product coming into the

edge of the box.

And Dan Carter has

worked really well and it was her

build-up play that was instrumental

in the captain getting that goal in

the first half on 19 minutes.

This

is what Dan Carter does so well, so

relaxed in tight spaces, skipping

past players and getting the ball

into the box and Steph Houghton

always popping up in the right

places.

You felt they will be more

relaxed, they have not had to wait

long and then the best and only

chance Bosnia have had in the whole

match came almost within 60 seconds.

It happens in games like this, you

switch off or make a mistake and

Emily ball but Bosnia have will be

from an England mistake. Millie

Bright goes to ground, she is the

last defender and should stay on her

feet. It is always the way, when you

have so much of the ball as an

England player or in general, you

switch off sometimes because it is

too easy.

A wake-up call. It is

about keeping the standard is high

in games like this. Yes, England are

third in the world, better on paper

but keep the standard is high and

keep the ball moving and move the

ball from side to side and wait for

the spaces to open up and penetrate.

Uninteresting amount of interchange

going on with players moving. This

is a feature of the side and

certainly in the wings, Toni Duggan

moving around quite a bit.

She grew

into that half. She did and if you

stay in one position you are easily

marked so if you interchange the

positions the player might come with

you or they might stay and you can

turn and struggle and a few times

Dan Carter has turned deep but she

has not been given the ball. But

Toni Duggan has been effective but

on the right-hand side, Parris has

been on form.

She has had some good

chances and she hit the post, we can

see that, and long-range answers as

well, she looks like she wants to

come back from Barcelona and prove

she is on this goal-scoring run for

her club that she wants to continue

with the national side.

So full of

confidence. She has always had the

potential and it is good we can see

her in the England shirt proving

that and she has these long-range

chances because she is confident in

her ability, to take players on and

pass the ball and make things

happen.

The Bosnian goalkeeper, we

should mention, they are very tight,

well drilled defensive unit. They

have behind them goalkeeper who is

fearless and plays one foot bigger

than her size!

She has been

phenomenal. Making says left, right

and centre and she is only quite a

small woman. In the right place. Her

position is good, very well hunched.

This should be a goal. The keeper

stands up.

Very well placed.

Fran

Kirby takes one touch too many.

All

credit to the keeper. Look at how

many chances she is having and it is

over the bar. She has spent that

well. Maybe she should have caught

that.

She plays safe. Five foot

seven but she is so diminutive in

stature, but she has an incredible

leap.

And your bravery, everything

England are throwing out, she is

coming up trumps and keeping them in

the game.

In Cardiff, the other

game, Wales and Kazakhstan, it is

currently goalless and England face

Kazakhstan on Tuesday and you can

see that live on BBC Two. One week

after the FA sacked Mark Sampson,

the FA announced to restructure at

the top of the women's football

period. Sue Smith has been finding

out about the impact this could have

on players and clubs.

Two months ago

I was previewing the new women's

Winter league and within days the FA

outlined another, different new

structure. From next season, clubs

who want to play at the top level of

the best in women's football will

have to meet this criteria. A

minimum of 16 contact hours per week

for players, and financial

investment by each club, financial

fair play regulations and an academy

is compulsory.

We are giving the

same number of tears within the

pyramid but we are changing the

criteria and the minimum standards.

Currently WSL 1 and two, to make it

clearer about the environment the

players are working and training in.

The new master plan has been broadly

welcomed by the top two clubs in

England.

It gives me an opportunity

to play the best players who are

playing every single day, they are

fitter and more physical and

understanding becomes better. It

develops my understanding of the

game and my physical shape and make

tactical ability, because I am

full-time.

I came from Doncaster

part-time to Chelsea full-time and

to be on leaps and bounds. On and

off the pitch, learning as a

professional and becoming a top

athlete and it has put me in this

position, with the senior team, I

have been to the Euros and very

successful with the club.

This might

be seen as a step forward for

women's elite teams, supported by

the vast financial backing of

Premier League clubs, for others

this is a more challenging move.

Yeovil Town within their first year

in WSL 1 and have submitted an

application to be members of the top

tier. Even with the support of a

crowdfunding campaign it could be

one stretch too far to afford this.

We believe we have earned our place

on merit and suddenly to have the

possibility of being told next year

you may not play at the top tier,

depending on how your licence

application goes, that is pretty

tough. I understand long-term what

is trying to be done, it is the

speed of it for not only Yeovil Town

but other smaller clubs that I find

particularly disheartening. We had

to make that application on a rather

more innovative basis because we

don't have the resources of the

other big clubs who have the parent

clubs behind them. The Manchester

Citys and Chelseas will increase

budgets every year as they sign

better players and we are seeing the

agents in the women's game and that

inevitably drives the matters up so

there will always be that gap.

The

biggest wake-up call of all was one

tier one side Notts County's on hold

the club on the FA Cup finalists

just two days before the Spring

Series was about to start.

Outgoings

in excess of 650000 and an income

stream including the FA funding of

only 150 so we had a -£500,000, it

was not financially viable or

affordable so it would have been

financial suicide to continue.

I was

a player at Doncaster Rovers a few

years ago when were controversially

demoted from WSL 1 before we even

kicked a ball. The team that

replaced us, Man City, have taken

the sport onto the next level. But

for teams like Doncaster, the gap

seems to be getting bigger and

bigger.

In five years it'll be even

bigger, there will be the European

Super League with Man City, Chelsea,

Wolfsburg, Lyon, PSG and that big

void that and WSL 1.

By making the

whole of the top tier full-time

professional, we will maintain and

improve the competitive balance we

have got. We believe this is the

right move and it is all part of the

wider game plan for growth and the

strategy for women's football,

international success, doubling the

fan base and club participation.

Many Premier League clubs including

Brighton & Hove Albion have

signalled their intention to be part

of the new setup next season. The FA

say they will announce the

successful bidders some time next

month.

A very quick turnaround, especially

for the smaller teams, you can see

the ambition, for the FA this is all

about getting that championship on a

global level, European or the World

Cup and the pathway there has to be

with professional football every

week for the top players but a team

like Yeovil cannot possibly meet

that criteria?

I feel for everyone

involved at Yeovil, you understand

what they are going through, they

have done so much, lots of the staff

are volunteers, that community

feeling so what has come too quickly

for them to put something in place

to go forward for that licence. But

when you flip that, you want to move

women's football forward in the

country and the FA feels the time is

right. Going forward, there have

been too many changes with the

summer league going back to the

Winter league and this and the fans

are confused so going forward over

the next couple of years we need to

have balance and structure for

everyone in the country to know what

is happening.

And it will stay like

that for some time. If it means that

the lead shrinks considerably

because of those financial

challenges that are going to be

there and the criteria to meet for

the clubs and it ends up being

almost teams that can afford it will

be attached to the big men's clubs,

is that a problem for you? Or if it

leads to national success and

trophies, is that the Right thing?

The big hitters like Arsenal and

Chelsea, they will be the forefront

of that, Liverpool and...

Trying to

think... They are the main teams you

would suggest in terms of finances

that are very supported.

You would

like to think other teams will

follow that pathway but for me, this

change is for England to perform and

win the World Cup. As Steph Houghton

said, when she plays against fully

professional players, it raises her

game and the technique of all of the

players.

Alan Hardy talked about a

European Super League potentially

one day and you can see that maybe

is the way the sport will go. For

now, we are enjoying the English

presence in the Women's Champions

League. The quarterfinal draw was

made today. Chelsea at Montpelier

and Man City at home. If you look at

Petrov, for the semifinal, not an

unattractive line-up. Potentially an

all English final.

We would like

that to happen! We have played in

the Champions League final and it is

special but to have two English

teams against each other, we can

only keep our fingers crossed.

The

second half, Mo Marley does not have

some of the newer faces like Gabby

George on the bench. Very familiar

faces to the fans. Lots of

experience. Will she bring them on?

I am not sure. They are very

comfortable right now. There are

probably should be more than one

goal and I think these players have

enough experience within them to

score more goals. They might

solidify that. But I think England

have this in the bag. They just need

a couple more goals to keep the

crowd alive.

Their fitness might

show. That will open spaces and we

might see more opportunities.

Let's

go back to our ever entertaining

commentary combination, Sue Smith

and Jonathan Pearce. You had some

time and a cup of tea to work out

some lines for Jonathan on that

grief he has been getting the about

the hair?

I am trying!

I will give

She played 13 minutes against

Kazakhstan the other day. The first

qualifying game. In the World Cup.

She plays for the boomerang club.

Second and have no chance of winning

the league. No one else ever does

with Bosnia-Herzegovina. Kicking

themselves in a good position and

England could at least have doubled

the score line if not troubled it.

They will want to settle themselves

and give the crowd boost but it is

about being clinical in the final

third. At times they could have been

better with the ball. After 45

minutes you are checking me out

dancing on your birthday! That was a

decent ball! The first chance in the

second half and it is 2-0! Nikita

Parris, lovely cross, lovely header

and what a start for the second

period.

That is exactly what England

will have wanted. Make sure that if

you get the opportunity, when Alex

Greenwood gets the ball... It was

actually Toni Duggan. Nikita Parris

made that run at the far post. What

a header that was. Make it difficult

for the goalkeeper. Toni Duggan,

swinging the ball in. You can see

that run from the shoulder, but was

poor defending. The goalkeeper, who

we praised, she was in the right

position. 42 seconds into the second

half and England doubled their lead,

a second goal of the campaign for

Nikita Parris. And that is her sixth

goal for England. When she scores,

there is unbridled joy ridden across

her face. Every goal-scorer

celebrates in their individual way.

But it is just pure happiness when

she scores! Pure happiness! Great to

see.

She absolutely loves playing

football, you can see that I would

ever level, five-a-side or for her

club and country.

I believe we need to give

Bosnia-Herzegovina some credit.

Because you may not believe me,

people watching tonight, they are so

much more adventurous than they were

in the first two games against

England in the European qualifying

campaign. Bright. Chased down by

that substitute. She has scarcely

gone into a forward roll.

Nikolic is

ambling around. She has clearly come

on to support Nikolic. She will try

to gamble and get forward. Such a

big gap in the midfield. The forward

One criticism I would have about the

first-half, when Toni Duggan came to

far across, she was bottling things

up and against that massive defence

you need the win that she had with

the second goal.

As long as you have

Alex Greenwood making that with...

On the far side. It is not much of a

problem, but she will naturally

drift infield being right footed.

Nobbs. Bronze is available,

Christiansen infield. This is

sensible stuff from England. The

edge of the penalty area. Perhaps

over adventurous.

She will be disappointed with the

fact she left that at the near post.

Very interesting report about the

future make-up of the game. What are

your thoughts? It seems very tough

on the likes of Yeovil and teams

that size.

That is a problem, Yeovil

and Doncaster Belles, my old team,

the gap is getting bigger and

bigger. Those teams that are

struggling to keep up and the fact

that it is changing all the time,

the fans are getting frustrated. I

can see why the FA are doing this

but I just think it needs to be

settled at some point.

She went down in stages. That was a

great tackle from Nikita Parris. She

wins the ball well. There was

nothing in that at all.

She has gone for the near post.

Completely -- complete miskick. That

mistake has given a chance to cross

the halfway line. That was a lovely

It took a while for England to work

this team right. Especially Begovic,

Kazakhstan. And the number 14 has

been playing in a variety of places

bypassed, the best player is playing

And they are team that are

developing and as players, they are

developing and trying to get the

tactics and the know-how of how to

play certain positions because there

are times when they seem to be

chasing around. There doesn't seem

to be structure in their game.

is Kirby. Carter has been brought

down right on the edge of the

penalty area, but was a very

cumbersome challenge. Is that a

penalty?

Just outside. She fell into

the area but that was just outside.

Again, they cannot cope with the

quick feet of Dan Carter and Nikita

Parris, Fran Kirby.

They are causing

all sorts of problems. We know the

goalkeeper is a good instinctive

shot stopper. She can move very

quickly and anything near her, but

when she has to make a decision, she

has been found wanting. As soon as

she has lined up this ball, slightly

to the right. The she not need that

while a little bit further left to

cover that? She will come off the

far post. She needs to come across a

little bit more. She is still

building the wall. She goes the

other way and scores! Well done!

to be completely in the wrong

position, she was too busy

organising the wall. Steph Houghton

could see were the space was an

executed that so well.

I hate to be

nasty but I don't think the

goalkeeper had a clue what she was

doing, she did not cover the far

post well enough with the wall and

then she stepped back across so she

left the other side on garden. 3-0,

And we expected to come on strongly

in the second half because of their

extra fitness. -- we expected

She gives England the alternative

and that is what Mo Marley is again

four, bringing others around the

squad to test their abilities and

see but they can do for her.

And

that is an opportunity for Dan

Carter and Alex Greenwood, players

may be on the periphery, give them a

chance. She performed well for her

club and when she plays for England

she clearly performs well.
