Euro 2017 Qualifier: Wales v Norway Women's Football

Cori, It is a huge week for Welsh football. Chris Coleman's side about

to kick off at 2016 and Wales women hoping to keep their European dream

alive. They have never made it to the finals of a major tournament and

they must beat Norway to stand a chance of getting to Euro 2017. But

Norway are the former world champions, unbeaten in their

qualifiers and 4-0 winners over Wales earlier on in the campaign.

Yes, it is a crucial game for the hosts. It is Wales against Norway

and it is live here on Match of the Day Wales. A very good afternoon and

welcome to Newport. You wait ages for one big European game and then

they're every where. With me is Sheryl Foster. What an exciting

week, Wales against Slovakia and Wales against Norway. It is a

massive week for Welsh football. But this is a must win game. We know

that, because there was a crucial game last night. If we look at how

things stand in the qualification group, this is grouch 8. -- Group 8.

The eight champions go through and the six best runners up.

So Wales have to finish second in the group to stand any chance of

going through. A draw could be enough. But the gold difference

compared to Norway is so inferior that we know that nothing really but

a win would do. It has to be three points, specially after the result

the other night. The girls know they have got to get the points and

they're up for. Here is the woman who hopes to lead her side to

victory, the Wales manager, Jayne Ludlow. Crucial match tonight. How

is everyone feeling? The girls are looking forward to the game,

alongside the staff and we can't wait for it to start. How do you

assess the Norwegian challenge? It will be enough, they're ranked 11

and have been previous world and European champions and come with

very much huge amounts of experience at international level. For us it is

going to be a big challenge. But one we can rise to. The game out in

Norway, tough result for you? Yes, tough result, but early on in the

campaign. Now as a squad the environment's different. The squad's

a bit different and the team that performs tonight will be very

different to what we had on the night in Norway. Thank you. A very

focussed and determined Jayne Ludlow. There is a bit of hush

descending. The teams will be out soon. But Jayne Ludlow has one of

her big stars back, Jess Fishlock, returning from injury in the nick of

time? ? Yes it is important she is back. She is so experienced and that

is what she will bring. Also a big day for Natasha Harding with her

50th cap. Yes it is a proud moment for her and Herr family -- her

family and herself. You know Jane very well. How much pressure if that

is the right word, do you think she was under to deliver success? Jane

thrives under pressure. Although she might be feeling it, you won't tell.

As a player she was determined to achieve the best and she will do

that for the girls. I know the girls have been prepared well for this

game. Jane's not let anything go. So she is really focussed for the game.

They have said how inspired they are by what the men have done in getting

to their first tournament in nearly 60 years, the Wales women side have

never been to a major finals. What would it mean to women's football

here if they were to do it? It would mean everything. Not just for the

current players, but former players. I think this is our best opportunity

to get there. Talking of pressure, she would know her predecessor came

close to getting Wales to the World Cup last year. They almost got to

the play-offs. . I think this is the best time to do it. Jane will have

everything ready. It is a great chance for the girls to get through.

The players will be out of tunnel soon. Give us an idea of who you

regard to be the key players. We talked of Jess Fishlock. And also

Natasha Harding. Who else will they look to. It is Helen Ward. She has a

huge amount of experience and the goals to games ratio is incredible.

I am looking forward to seeing what she can do. I sense she will gate

warm round of applause. There she is behind her skipper. Leading the side

out. As they come out on o' the field, alongside Norway. Give us a

sense of how tough this game will be. Norway are former world

champions and beat Wales 4-0 earlier. Norway has always been a

physical and tough side. They will be full of confidence. They have had

some good results. So they're going to be up for it today. Their lining

up for the anthems. Kick off shortly. Natasha Harding on her big

day will get presented with a golden cap by David Griffiths, the

president of the football association of Wales. Proud moment

for her. Yes really proud. You have names as a -- aims as a player. How

key is she to this side? She is really key. She is an explosive

powerful forward. If we can get the ball to her, I have a feeling she

will do well for us. A warm round of applause as she gets that

presentation. How do you see this going? They must win here today. To

keep their hopes of getting to Europe alive. What is your gut

instinct. My heart is telling me they will win. My head is as well. I

think Jane will set them up well and I think they will sneak a 1-0 win.

It is a warm day as well. The girls may have liked it cooler. But they

have got to go for it. It is such an important game. A crucial day. And

time now ahead of game for the two national anthems.

find out with her match commentator, Simon Davies. COMMENTATOR: Thank

you, we hope this will kick start a special summer for international

football. As the men prepare for Euro 16 in France. Jayne Ludlow has

made four changes. Claire Skinner makes her first start between the

sticks and a first cap for Jemma Evans. Norway are former world,

European and Olympic champions. They have made two changes.

Wales are boosted by the return of Fishlock. She has recovered from a

fractured fibula to return to the starting line up this afternoon. It

is a lovely day here at what used to be called Spite Park. I'm delighted

to have Kath Morgan with me. It may be unlikely, but Wales will be

feeling that they can still make an impression in this group and who

knows maybe even force qualification. Definitely. It is a

huge game, they're playing at home and they must be confident.

Otherwise another dream is over. Norway have a wealth of experienced.

Captained by Maren Mjelde. . They are favourites, but Wales hopefully

will be able to stop them. The referee is from Slovakia. So no

mention of Saturday. We are under way for what is a huge game for

Jayne Ludlow's team. They lost to the Norwegians earlier in the

campaign 4-0. So they know full well the quality that Norway possess. And

an early bit of confidence for Claire Skinner. It was a surprise

call for her, given that injury to Jo Pryce. But it is a big game for

her. She has had a fantastic opportunity. Let's hope she can take

it with both hands and keep a clean cat. James just forcing the throw in

for Wales. It is to be taken by Harding. What a moment for her. A

chance for Fishlock. Well what, a chance that was.

Jess Fishlock, she likes to get into the area. She is always dangerous

and you can't mark her closely. Because her movement is so good.

Let's get a great corner here. We said at the start Sheryl was

saying to Iain, the importance of Jess Fishlock and what she brings to

the Wales team. Such a boost to see her. Oh gosh, we had a huge scare

when she fractured her leg, but like Joe Ledley she has made a great

recovery and we are grateful. This has been a decent start from Wales.

But Norway like to counterattack. They have the chance here.

Berge to Lund. Wales third in Group 8. Remember, you have to finish in

the top two places to stand any chance of qualification for the

Netherlands. Wales still have a chance of that. But realistically

they have to won here. They have two other games remaining.

Free kick Wales. It has been a decent start? Yes, Wales look very

bright. They know what is at stake and hopefully they can gain

confidence and keep the ball. That is the most important thing here,

because Norway are very direct. A few people on that bench thought

fish look had scored -- Fishlock had scored there.

There is a wealth of experience, quite a few of them on 90 caps.

The keeper Hjelmseth. We hope this is a special summer ahead of

Slovakia, which is live on BBC Wales of course and S4C.

Norway being very patient with their passing here. Wales sits back,

perhaps can't afford to do that. There is searing is heat here. Very

patient in their build up, aren't they? Yes, Norway very experienced

and they will not give the ball away. They will take their time and

keep possession. It is hard for Wales to keep their shape and just

try and counter when they can. Slick passing on a beautiful surface here

in Newport. Keep it tight, I am sure that was

the message from Jayne Ludlow. 20 months in the job. Very much a work

in progress, she tells me. Lots of young players in the squad and even

if Euro 2017 is beyond them, maybe they can reach tournaments in the

future. There is a loot of change with the squad and it takes time. So

we have to be patient. Ward's first touch let her down. But

again Fishlock in the thick of the action. A great burst of pace from

the Wales No 10. That is exactly what we know she can do. She can hit

us on the counter and break. Played a nice ball, but unfortunately

intercepted by the right back. Helen Ward prefers playing as a striker.

Harding on the right-wing. Has been playing as a left full-back. So lots

of experimentation from Jayne Ludlow at the moment.

I was in Norway earlier in the campaign and what struck me about

Norwegian football was just how the players were such household names.

Autograph hunters waiting for the players. It is a huge, it is a big

deal out there isn't it, women's football. That is something Wales

can learn from. Yes, they have been so successful. At the end of the day

it is fact that the federation supports them well. That is what you

have to do to breed success. A lovely ball there. Watched

carefully by Dykes. That is a good collection from

Claire Skinner in the Wales goal. Making her first start for Wales

this afternoon in place of the injured Jo Pryce. Rhiannon Roberts.

Harding will take this throw in. It is an even start so far. If you talk

about chances, Wales have had the best with that Fishlock effort.

Wales is problem is when they win the ball, they have to keep the ball

and build on little chances they get. Norway will be direct and are

very technically sound. We have to keep our shape and be patient

ourselves. Up to Berge and that was a great

tackle from Dykes. It had to be. Berge could have been in there. That

what is Wales have to be careful of. Lauren Dykes making the all

important challenge there. Given away cheaply. Berge's shot.

That could have gone anywhere. Skinner just about stops it from

going for a corner. It was a teasing shot from Berge. Could have gone

anywhere. Luckily it went into the arms of Claire Skinner. That is the

danger with Norway. They're so clever and they will counter quickly

and if Wales lose their shape, they have got a successful shot on goal.

It was a deflected effort and could have gone over Skinner's head. That

will give her confidence. Perhaps she didn't expect to start this

afternoon. Her first start. She won't forget this one in a hurry. It

is a fantastic experience for her. I'm sure she will be nervous, but

when you look back at your career, these are the moments you treasure.

51 caps you got is that right? That is right. I did my homework right.

The level of women's game is increasing all the time in Wales. A

good tackle. Defensively Wales have been up to the task so far. Yes a

fantastic tackle. But we have to keep the ball. We have got the

central midfield player dropping in the hole and causing problems, No

17. Wales certainly matching their

opponents and in this article early -- in this early stage it is very

difficult to say. They have dealt with the Norwegians at the moment at

the moment. Yes, they have settled down well and you know if we can get

a couple of chances, it will give us more confidence again.

James a pivotal figure and a favourite of Jayne Ludlow's. Has

been a regular starter for her. I wonder how much experiment Jayne

Ludlow can afford to do. 20 months in the job, it is a work in

progress, but results are important. Hugely important and the squad has

changed and things take time. But they are gelling. We need a

performance now to quantify that. Berge's header dealt with well from

Roberts. Roberts wasn't quite sure what was behind her there I don't

think. It was a useful flick on and no risks taken. If we defend

properly, make sure we know where the ball is, hopefully we can defend

this corner well and try and get up the field as quickly as we can.

The corn tore the near post and Skinner's missed it. James with the

clearance and a chance for Harding to break. The referee's blown her

whistle. It was a decent delivery. It is a great header to clear the

danger and James securing the ball away for a throw.

It is a free kick for Wales. To be taken by Roberts.

25 years of age. Ex-Blackburn. Currently at Doncaster. That was a

decent delivery. Wales have a corner. The Norwegians didn't know

how to defend that. Hopefully we can get a good corner here now. Taken by

James. A thunderous cross from Roberts. Ward like the goal scorer

she is, was lurking. The referee has seen something she

doesn't like. There is a lot of congestion there. Hopefully Wales

can disrupt the defenders. Corner flicked on. Came off a

player. Came off a Norwegian player. It is another corner. There is a lot

of bodies in the box and that causes problems. We need to miss the front

person on the post and we can get anything in there.

The danger is not always the Norwegians, it's back out with

James, decent position. It's another corner. Wales getting closer. It's

crucial to deliver a very good ball because obviously opportunities like

this must be taken. We need a good ball from James now. The Norwegian

are struggling to defend. Once again, no room for manoeuvring the

six yard area as James puts the corner in. Just couldn't get it to

another Wales player. Sophie Ingle got a glancing header but I don't

think she got the best contacts. But another chance. Wales more than

matching their opponents, world-class opposition, ranked 11th

in the world, Norway. Former world, European and Olympic champions. The

record speaks for themselves but this is a big as Cromwells but it's

a very positive start. -- this is a big ask for Wales. They are getting

closer. Jess Fishlock looking to create something, up towards

Kayleigh Green. Not got much support but she could win corner, came off

the flag. CHUCKLES Came off the official as well. A

Slovakian official. At least I think it did. CHUCKLES

We shouldn't laugh. But she took it in good spirits. Wales of course

play Slovakia on Saturday remember. Nice cross from Harding, Cross, shot

I think. Just went wide for the goalkick. She has played for some

big clubs in the women's game, Manchester City, now at Liverpool.

Loves playing for Wales. Yes, very passionate person. I taught her

years ago and it's lovely to the herd doing well. Wish you good

student? I can't comment. Looking to be a goal-scorer here, the Tasha

Harding, then a dodgy clearance. Wales putting pressure on here. Jess

Fishlock with the attempt from distance. It was ambitious. We

cannot fault the ambition. She certainly has the quality to score

from that sort of range. The goalkeeper made a huge mistake, poor

clearance, she picked it up and it was worth having a go. Ingrid

Hjelmseth under all sorts of pressure. It was a poor clearance.

The Welsh are holding the former world champions here, and

encouraging display so far. Roberts plays it back to Skinner, strong

clearance. This is good play from Wales. Good take-down from Kayleigh

Green. Lawrence, looking for Helen Ward. Back to the goalkeeper it

goes. Norway under pressure, didn't think I would say that 20 minutes

into the game. I agree, I think Wales have settled down and Norway

looked quite one ball in defensive situations. If we can capitalise on

that we should do well -- look quite vulnerable. Just over the head of

adult Heger Berg. She is the big target women. -- Ada Hegerberg.

Place for Olympique Lyonnais in France. -- plays. Wales have got to

be careful, excellent tackle from Sophie Ingle. Fish -- Jess Fishlock

completing the clearance. Defensively wales have been up to

the task so far. Sometimes you have to make a tackle

and she did just that. No doubt Ada Hegerberg will be a target again

here. Plenty of white shirts to aim for. Worrying times for Wales. The

cross, towards Skinner. She dropped it but recovered well. Ada Hegerberg

once again the danger women. Claire Skinner came to collect and on the

second attempt did her job. She made an excellent run, nobody picked her

up, here it is again. Great ball in. Almost got on the end of it. Just

got the feeling that Norway are starting to turn the screw, show the

quality. Jess Fishlock recovering. James. Natasha Harding. Okore throw.

That's a shame. Helen Ward was free. She got off balance a little bit.

The Tasha Harding is a very versatile player. She has been

playing as a left wingback at butter preferred position is more forward

as an orthodox winger. Is offside? The flag has gone up, might have

been tight. Every single region ball is looking for Ada Hegerberg but it

is offside. Roberts to take a free kick for Wales.

It's aimless. Harding was there. Let's go down to pitch side. What is

Jayne Ludlow going to be thinking? I think she will be happy with the

start, we've had the better chances and being 0-0 at this stage is

important, hopefully we can capitalise on some of the mistakes

that Norwegians are doing and get the goal. Sharp take a breath a

second ago. Yes, a little bit as the goalkeeper dropped the ball but I

think we have played the better so hopefully the girls can get a goal

just before half-time. Thank you. Hard to disagree with that, Wales

have more than held their own. All that is missing, as they see in

football, is a goal. Defensively we have shown good shape and are very

disciplined. It is now a case of tried to counterattack when we get

the ball. Crunching tackle from Jess Fishlock. Good recovering tackle

from Helen Ward. Norway starting to look a little bit more dangerous

year. Great tackle, she just loses her footing and back it goes to

Ingrid Hjelmseth. Made once again by Jess Fishlock. Tenacious tackling.

Almost put Kayleigh Green through on goal. I was going to say this was

the danger when Norway counterattack but it was a stray pass. But Jess

Fishlock... Harding chasing. Really putting

pressure on the goalkeeper, Ingrid Hjelmseth.

Helen Ward is free. She has the time. It's a goalkick. Helen Ward,

so deadly in the penalty area usually. Scored a hat-trick against

Kazakhstan in the last home qualifier. But it's all about Jess

Fishlock. Her vision is sublime. Unlucky for Helen, caught on her

left foot and lifted the ball up but Jess Fishlock is a quality player.

Is an important figure for her team Seattle Reign out in the United

States. Made a super recovery from her fractured fibula, I'm not a

doctor but an extraordinary comeback. It was a small fracture

and as long as she has healed we don't mind. Here is James. Harding.

Fishlock. Wales still have it, fish -- M1 Mack battling for it. He was

learned. -- Fishlock battling for it. Ada Hegerberg the target again

and again Wales are defensively up to it. The central defence

partnership of Sophie Ingle and we should mention Gemma Evans, I

youngster who has played a very accomplished debut here, winning her

first cap. Lund. Throw for Wales. Fishlock winning

that. will be pleased with what she has

seen so far,. As this game has progressed Wales

have kept up with Norway, in hot conditions. You hope they can keep

this level up. You just have to be patient, we prepared well. Wales are

prepared well, we know exactly what Norway will give us, they will be

very direct and technically very strong. We have had the best of the

first 28 minutes so it's all positive. Great gesture from Jayne

Ludlow to let Jess Fishlock lead out the team. Roberts will take the

throw. Not a bad crowd here either. I was expecting a few more but...

It's a free kick for Wales. It was a late whistle but this is a golden

opportunity. Yes, Kayleigh Green holding her body position, comes

into her back and it's a great position for Wales to take a free

kick. The centre-back making her debut

takes the free kick. I don't know a lot about her so it'll be

interesting watch her. Needs a nice ball over the wall and into the

danger area. The delivery needs to be good, Wales have had chances and

here is another. It's a decent delivery. Was it a cross or a shot?

Gemma Evans was mightily close. Great left foot, great delivery. I

think she went for the far post unfortunately, but a great effort,

well done. She had stars in her eyes I think. On her debut. But that is

one thing about Jayne Ludlow, likes to give young players a chance. Foul

by Fishlock. No card but a bit too keen to get the ball of Ada

Hegerberg. Young players certainly getting opportunities under Jayne

Ludlow. Yes, it's important to try to bring a new influx of players in.

That's a lovely turn, Wales and the counterattack. Helen Ward. Neat

little pass in towards Lawrence. James. Just overhit it. Norway did

very well to stop the counter, got into defensive positions very well

and stop the build-up for Wales which is a shame. It was a good

break from Helen Ward, James disappointed with herself. Overhit

it. What a weaker Welsh football. -- what a week for Welsh football. We

hope, and the signs are good so far, that this could be the start of a

special summer for Welsh international football. Ada

Hegerberg the target again. Cleared away only as far as Nora Berge.

I open wide. Kristine Minde. The referee says play on, player is

down, she has stopped play. It's not for a head injury. Jayne Ludlow not

very happy. Talking to the fourth official. The player down... It was

a clumsy tackle from Natasha Harding and I don't think she can have too

many complaints. Came through quite hard, behind the knee. The player in

a bit of distress but it will give Wales time to regroup, get it

together and the last ten minutes are crucial. The referee did not

blow for a foul but did stop play when the player was down so I think

it will be a drop ball. It's a glorious afternoon here in Newport.

Quick drink break for the players. Very hot out there. Not a bad crowd,

a lot of local schoolchildren here. I would have expected a few more if

I was honest but it's great they come down to support and the more

games we can have here in South Wales the better for the players to

aspire to be footballers themselves. Still receiving some treatment here.

Wales have played a number of games in different venues over the years,

the women's team that is. The Cardiff City Stadium. Good to take

the game around Wales. It was a drop ball. Sophie Ingle with the long

ball for Helen Ward but over her head. The pace of the game has

slowed a bit. Not far to go until half-time, plenty of Jayne Ludlow to

think about ahead of the second half. Helen Ward will take the

throw. All-time goal-scorer for Wales, Helen Ward. A skewed cross,

James attempted the flick on, it's a bit Messi. -- it's a bit of a mess.

For all the patient's Norway have not created an awful lot. The

striker is so dangerous, one chance and they will be comfortably leading

1-0 so they have to be careful to keep their discipline.

A lot of the attacking play from the Welsh point of view has come from

that left side. Is that foul? Yes. Cleared foul on Kayleigh Green and

another chance to get the ball into the area. Not sure if Evans will

take it again but certainly an opportunity. It looks as though it

is James who is setting up the ball. Let's hope we can get everyone in

position. James with the cross, header over

the bar. It wasn't a bad attempt from Roberts. I think she had more

room than perhaps she thought. James with the cross, and there was

Roberts. Great deep ball, unfortunately just put it over the

top, but she had to be there to miss it so well done being there.

Don't want to concede before half-time, have done so well to

stifle Norway. Wales could be caught cold here on

the break. Kristine Minde. Towards Ada Hegerberg. High and wide. She

had plenty of room outside the penalty area. But once again, once

Wales were caught in possession, Norway can be so dangerous on the

counterattack. They are very accurate and will shoot at any time

so Wales have to be careful. Short ball from Skinner, have to be

careful here. Hasty clearance in the end. Under pressure. Claire Skinner.

A little bit of inexperience there I think. Played it short to suffer the

single -- to Sophie Ingle. On balance, Claire Skinner hasn't put a

foot wrong yet. A first start to remember so far from the goalkeeper.

Wales have to be careful, was Ada Hegerberg fouled? The Norway bench.

That could have been a penalty. Skipping round the defence. I don't

think it was a penalty. Skinner came out. Ada Hegerberg is through again

here. Cleared away by Sophie Ingle. The striker causing all sorts of

problems now. First with the one-on-one with Skinner.

You said it, she is causing real problems, this striker. She is very

experienced. She can turn the game on a sixpence. Just jumped out of

the tackle. Sophie Ingle is the player to mark her, we have

experience there as well. Ada Hegerberg has been at Olympique

Lyonnais since 2014. Great tackle from James and the break is on for

Wales. Still with James, early cross, perhaps too early, but

Fishlock could get on the end of this. Optimistic drive from

Lawrence. The break was on. Wales just not taking their chances where

Norway have been caught cold. Just need to keep playing in those

situations. Here is Ada Hegerberg. She has had

her chances. Wales defensive play up to the task. Ada Hegerberg is

drifting the whole side of the pitch which is making it difficult. Very

clever player. Still no goals and that will be music to the ears of

Jayne Ludlow. The next five minutes are crucial, not to concede.

Spreading the play. Lund. Bombing forward now, Norway. I'd towards

Kristine Minde. -- act towards. -- out towards. She's a player Jayne

Ludlow has known for many years. All-time record goal-scorer for

Wales, worked with Jayne at Arsenal and Reading. Played for the England

under 23 side but switched allegiance to Wales. And I think

Jayne Ludlow is more than happy with that decision. She has never looked

back since that decision, she has been a great servant for Welsh

women's football. Proud to have her. Skinner with the kick. Centrally

placed it. Looking for the header back perhaps, needed. It needed to

be a good defensive header and it was. Skinner made the decision

early. Good communication. Route one staff, Harding chasing the loose

ball. Very direct from Wales but it gets the job done.

Her 50th cap, Harding. How she would love a goal.

Made a real mess of that, Wales can take advantage perhaps. Up towards

Ada Hegerberg. She's got round one defender, good decision-making from

Skinner. For a goalkeeper who perhaps didn't

expect to start this afternoon she's made some cracking decisions. Ada

Hegerberg was through. Definitely, she came it very quickly. Fishlock

with the ball up to Harding but the other goalkeeper collect it. But

it's all about the Welsh goalkeeper in the first half and what she has

done, Claire Skinner. It will give her lots of confidence going into

the second half. The long balls causing Wales are a few problems. Up

towards James, again, it's an interesting puzzle between Sophie

Ingle and Ada Hegerberg, two experienced internationals. Norway

have the height advantage, we are competing but not winning in the

centre. This is a good move from Norway.

Skinner came to collect. Loren Dykes with the clearance. Helen Ward is

trying to stave off the Norwegian attack. Good defensive work. Up feel

that goes towards Kayleigh Green. -- Copperfield. Fishlock has missed it.

Wales have got to be careful. Ada Hegerberg charging towards the goal

but cleared away by Evans. Not taking any risks there. Ada

Hegerberg has had a fair few chances in this game.

I think Jayne Ludlow can be very pleased can she? Yes, she's very

tense on the touchline and rightly so but Wales have done very, very

well to keep it 0-0 for the next minute hopefully they can group

together and come out in the second half and take the chances. As things

stand Jayne Ludlow's team unlikely to be going to the Netherlands if it

stays like this, they really do need to win. And in the two remaining

games as well. Wales can break in injury time,

Harding almost through, one minutes still to be played.

It's a poor clearance from Norway. Put into that area, Helen Ward was

waiting, the chance goes begging, I'd goal kick.

Harding, the ball seemed to hit her heel as it came through. Yes it

stopped her run. But we are causing them problems.

And that is that. Well no goals to speak of. But Wales can be pleased,

Hegerberg has been the main source of Norway's attacking. But Jess

Fishlock came close for Wales as well. In the very first minute in

fact. It was a snapshot which went over the bar. She has been an

important figure. For Wales, it is so far so go against one of the

leading nations in women's football. It was always going to be a crucial

day for Wales, knowing only a win would do. A special day for Natasha

Harding as she collects her 50th cap and Wales going for it in the first

half. Fishlock at the centre of things with some good chances, but

Norway big and strong, Hegerberg a big figure for the visitors. What a

debut this could have been for Gemma Evans. A cross or maybe a shot not

too far away. So it is goalless at half-time. Sheryl Foster with me.

Hoping Wales can do what you and so many of your former colleagues

didn't do and get to a major tournament. How do you feel they

have done in the first half? Like I said, for the first half I think set

out how Jane wants them to play. When they haven't got the ball they

have the players behind the ball and making it tough for Norway. When

they have got the ball, they're counter attacking and they're

looking sharp up front. We talked of Jess Fishlock coming back, she has

been at the centre of most of the good stuff Wales have done. Jess

will always be at the centre of good play. She has that knack of going

into the area just at the last moment. This is another good dart

from midfield. She undercut that pass a bit to hell hn. -- to hell

hn. She is a fiery character and wants to get that win. It is a kind

of Lazarus-like recovery from her injury. Norway have had their

chances as well. There was a couple of moments that I was on the side

gasping a bit. Norway's always going to get a couple of chances. Jane's

got to make sure at the back we keep it nice and tight. I think, I have

been impressed with Gemma Evans. For a debut she has done well. Very

strong. So a few concerns, but on the whole Wales must be pleased.

Gemma Evans and her colleagues have had to deal with Hegerberg, who has

created all sorts of havoc for Norway and problems for the Welsh

defence. At this level, you will always have teams who will have

chances. When they played them away, they won 4-0. But on the whole Wales

have dealt with things well. We always say what will the manager be

saying at half-time? There are moments where they perhaps need to

come up with something special. We know Wales need to win. So what will

Jane be saying? Mainly, we have had the chances. The point is when we

have the ball, we need to relax a bit. We have had a couple of chances

where it has been a snapshot. So just to take their time, I'm not

saying for defenders to come back n but take their time and be more

composed in front of goal. Kath Morgan has been in the commentary

box. She is with Rachael. It is still warm here, the girls will be

feeling it? It was a tough half. Wales will be pleased. Yes, Norway

are dangerous on the counterattack and have got tricky forwards. But we

have contained them, created chances and all in all, I think they will be

happy. Norway aren't looking like a side that beat them 4-0. Well

they're away from home. They know a draw and they're comfortable at the

top where they want to be. So Wales have it all to do. Therefore they

can kind of be a bit more comfortable. When the ball is with

Norway, they do Wales seem to be throwing everyone behind it and then

ewhen they're getting a break it is more tricky. We are so vulnerable

when the ball goes in behind us. We have a young keeper, who has done

well. The centre-back is very busy. But we have to defend well, because

we don't want to concede. But we need to get up the other end. What

will Jayne Ludlow be saying to the team? She will be giving them

confidence to continue to play. It is a long half against an

experienced team. If we can contain ourselves and try and sneak a goal,

confidence should be high. Thanks. Still 45 minutes to go, they have to

just sort of keep their composure and don't just try and throw

everything at Norway. They might leave themselves exposed if they do.

We all know that the first five minutes of the second half is always

important. We don't want to concede Arley on. -- early on. We need to

build on the confidence they're showing. We are hearing via the

wonders of social media that in France three of Chr Coleman's side

are watching the game and of course you won't fail to know of course

that there is a big game going on in Bordeaux on Saturday. As Wales play

their opening Euro 2016 game against Slovakia.

We need to get off to a good start and then see what happens. I just

want it to come. It is just waiting and getting prepared. But we are all

excited and so we should be. It is a major tournament, hopefully we will

do well and we are all looking forward to it. We have reached the

target of qualifying and now we realise how huge this occasion is.

It is important for us to enjoy it and not feel to pressurised. We

believe we are a good team and we should go far. We want to win every

game we play, we want to win the group and give ourselves the best

chance. No matter who we play, we feel confident we can win and we

will go out to try and do that. We have known each other for a number

of years. We have worked our socks off to get here and we want too

prove that we are more than capable of matching the bigger nations. You

have seen smaller nations progress far before so we will be trying to

follow those nations. It is no good just coming here once and that is it

for another 50-odd years. We want to repeat what we have already done. So

the World Cup will be the next target after this tournament.

These the key dates I am sure you know these by now.

We hope there will be more. We can show you these shots of the Wales

team arriving in France. Of course they played Sweden on Sunday. They

had that 3-0 defeat. They went straight to their base. There is

Gareth Bale shaking is hands on their arrival in Brittany. Sheryl,

the whole nation so excited about what lies in store. You wonder how

excited those players are feeling now. What are we? Just four days

away from that game. It's just, we have waited a long time. It's just,

it is so exciting for every Welsh person for this game. I can't wait

and I'm sure everyone else is as well. It was disappointing on Sunday

with that defeat in Sweden. Does that worry you? A bit. Only because

we have not played too well in the last couple of games. But they're

friendlies and hopefully they're going to put everything together and

make sure everything's ready for Saturday. Form hasn't been great.

But Chris Coleman said sometimes you have a bad pre-season to put it into

club parlance and get off to a great start in your season, or it can work

the other way. Have a crack pre-season and you get off to a

terrible start. I think what is important is that their pre-season

friendlies in a way and just let's rid of them and be focussed for the

first game. There will be a few nerves on Saturday. But the blood's

going to be boiling, the energy will be going. I think that will suit,

see them through the game. Blood will be boiling and it could well be

boiling in France. There are so many thousands of Welsh fans already

there, or they will be making their way out there over the week. Lots

travel in hope and expectation and some will be less optimistic. How do

you feel about Wales and how they might do? I'm optimistic. Out there,

anything can happen. They have got to take each game as it comes. The

most important one is Saturday. Let's see how we do there and then

get our minds focussed for the England game. As players, we all

know you have got to take each game as it comes. You know what it is

like in a group, do you target particular sides for victories?

People say the game with Slovakia is the game where Wales will pick up a

victory? Not particularly. You have got to go into every game wanting to

win. Innior first game getting three points would be brilliant. But I

don't think you plan ways of playing against certain teams. You have got

to go out for the points and get out of the group phase. They always say,

another cliche, play the game and not the occasion. That is impossible

against England in a major tournament? I understand that, but

they're professionals and I understand how important it is to

beat England, but also to get out of the group. To get to the first

Championships any way is important. But to get out of the group would be

incredible. I know also Kath Morgan who is in the commentary box, one of

your colleagues with Wales as well, Kath, you're going out there to

France, exciting times, you must be thrilled to be part of it. How do

you think Wales will do? I'm very excited. To go to Slovakia game. I

think we will be confident and I think we will win the first game and

that will breed momentum into the England and Russia game. Do you

share the optimism? Yes, why not? It has taken us so long to get there.

The nation will be behind everybody and we are going to do it! Thank you

Kath. And Sheryl, in terms of the game here, obviously Wales are

hoping they can follow the men and qualify for a major tournament

themselves. They have never done it. No, we have never done it, but I

think we have a great opportunities. The girls have played well and I

hope they can capitalise on the chances we have had. Do you think if

Wales were able to make it to their first major tournament it would,

would it transform the women's game here. More and more girls are take

up football. It is on the rise. But how big a transformation would it be

if Wales got to a major finals? I think it would be incredible. The

money that would be pumped into the game and also it just would make the

girls more recognised and more young players would then play. It would be

a great achievement and a huge boost for the country. I think Rachael has

been going around the stadium trying to find more people to talk to us.

Who do you have with us. I have Jo Pryce and it is her birthday. What

better present than if we could gate Wales win? I Yes we are looking

strong and competing well. Looking forward to our next goal. What is

Jayne Ludlow going to have said to the girls? Just keep doing what we

are doing and be patient. Any changes do you see? Not yet. Don't

need to change it. Are you happy? Yes. Slaes happy girl, Iain. Sheryl

is still opt mis-I can, the teams back out. Wales with 45 minutes left

to keep that European dream alive. Let's head back to our commentary

team of Kath Morgan and Simon Davies. COMMENTATOR: May I take the

opportunity to say hello to the Wales team in France, many of whom

are watching. I have seen a tweet the team watching. Wales to doing

well. It is fantastic the lads are supporting the girls. Let's hope the

next 45 will be as good as the first. The indications are that

Jayne Ludlow hasn't changed anything. Can't see any

substitutions. That is understandable. Claire Skinner in

goal has had a strong fist start and has a pat on the pack there from one

of the coaches and rightfully so. Yes, she has done herself justice.

She has come out to a very experienced team and commanded her

area and they have given her a lot of experience when we need to

defend. The scenario is not complicated. Only the need for

self-belief from Wales. Norway ranked 11 in the world. Former world

and European champions and former Olympic champions. We await the

whistle and Wales have got to go for it now haven't they? No changes from

the Wales carp v camp -- from the Wales camp. No changes for the

Norwegians either. They will be hoping to start the game as they did

in the fist half with that Jess Fishlock chance? If we settle down

and take every five minutes as they come. Try and get on the ball more

and get better service up to Green. Hjelmseth had a comfortable first

half. That is a ball for Green to chase.

It was watched all the way by Lund. Wales's turn to be more direct this

time. But here go Norway with Hegerberg, the danger woman. She has

run out of room. Again good defence from Wales.

Wales need to get more support further up the field when we get the

ball. We seem to be behind the ball a lot. That makes it more difficult

to get support into Green. Dykes almost with a costly mistake.

Hegerberg closing her down. I don't think she realised how close

Hegerberg was there. Quite lucky that she has won a throw.

Minde switching flanks for this half. A ball for Ward to chase. She

is not giving up on this one. But once again the creator was Jess

Fishlock. She has got such class and poise on the ball.

It is more of an open game. Minde just beyond her. But what about

Fishlock. Time and time again we say it. Great tack here by Jess. She

gets up, defending well and plays a fantastic ball forward.

Unfortunately just not far enough. She was captain, Jayne Ludlow

decided to go in a different direction in terms of the captaincy.

Still almost a captain in all but name in many ways. Doesn't wear the

arm band, but is such an important figure. She is very passionate about

playing for Wales and it is no coincidence she is worldwide known,

having played in Europe and Australia and the United States. Six

different countries she has played for. She hasn't played in Norway,

that is one of leading nations in women's football. I'm sure they

would love her to play there. It was a very, well it had to be a

good tackle. And Harding, that was a real heart in your mouth moment.

Fantastic tackle. Great timing. She won the ball, player went down. Any

other day some referees might give it the other way. But well done.

For the men watching in France, I'm sure they will be encouraged by this

and hopefully draw some inspiration. Ahead of a massive week for Welsh

football. We are all extremely excited for the game, so good luck

to the boys. When are you going out. I'm flying out Saturday morning. You

and thousands of other Welsh people I'm sure. And if you can, if you

5 o'clock kick off, Wales against Slovakia. The biggest game in Welsh

football for 58 years. I am sure you don't need reminding of that.

It is great to see a team off to a tournament. We waited so long and

hopefully it won't be too long before we see Wales women at a

competition. Even if it isn't Holland next year. We always dreamed

of getting to a major Championship and these girls will be no

different. They have won a corner. Can they make Norway pay? Again

Fishlock in the thick of the action, putting Lund under pressure and

Harding getting involved too. . That is all she needs to do, is get her

body in the right position and everybody feels threatened.

Not a bad delivery. But Roberts couldn't get there. And it is a

Norway throw. Chance goes begging. That is a shame. The delivery was

good, but she should have hung out a bit for the far post. Wales need to

win this game. Anything less, well a defeat ends all qualification hopes.

A draw makes it very unlikely. But a win could mean so much.

Fishlock goes it a alone. Whether that was the right choice or not,

I'm not sure. But Jess Fishlock with one thought in mind there. She had a

go there. Now we have to be careful about the counterattack. Into

Hegerberg. Wales are growing in confidence.

Pretty end to end. In many ways more open than it was in the first half.

Yes, I think Wales know they have to score and Norway are taking their

chances when they get them. Hegerberg is onside. She can't get

the shot in. And Wales you have to say

defensively have done their job again. I think the problem we have

is we have got to make sure there is no gaps now so the counter from

Norway can come quickly. Because one goal and it is all over. We need to

be careful. But Wales still should be high in confidence.

Norway are playing a risky game. They're getting forward and Wales

absorbing the pressure and looking to counterattack. Great defensive

shape by Wales. They kept moving in two banks of four across the field,

where there is no space for Norway to get in behind.

The aim was to find Lawrence there and Wales have conceded a throw.

Sloppy play there and Harding will be disappointed. It puts them under

pressure. Throw in Wales. Harding resists the

temptation to take it quickly. There was no support there. So it was a

good decision not to take it quick. Only one player was up in attack. So

wait for everybody to come and help. Beautiful afternoon here in Newport.

Ideal weather. Mykjaland in front and it rolls to

Claire Skinner who hasn't had much to do this half. She will kick from

her hands. 19 years of age. Given her first cap by Jayne Ludlow and

this being her first start. Hegerberg with a poor first touch.

That was lucky for Wales. Had it been a better touch they would have

been in trouble. She is still full of running. Very strong, very tall

and agile. These a threat behind the sceptre half and the left --

centre-half and the left full-back. Skinner again, 19-year-old

goalkeeper. With the sun in her eyes. It is an awkward kick. It goes

straight to a Norwegian player. Green to chase against Berge. What

can Green do. She is almost sliding in. A gasp from the crowd. That will

tell you how close it was. Great tenacity from Green. The Norwegian

players with no communication and she was unlucky. You can't give

Hegerberg room. Lofted into the area. Well,

Thorsnes, it was just behind her and from one end of the pitch to the

other, Wales go from almost scoring to almost conceding. A far post

cross, but fortunately it was just too high for her. An intriguing game

this second half. It is very open and that will breed goals. Hopefully

we can get some goals in the next 20 minutes.

Fighting hard to win the ball back but here come Norway again. Well

played by Fishlock, wins the ball back cleanly but they've given it

away again. Can't afford to do this, Wales. The block was there. They are

cheaply giving away possession and Jayne Ludlow won't be happy with

that. The right back, I think she's a bit tired and they are getting

into a two on one situation down the right-hand side so they have to

double up. Clearance from Sophie Ingle. Great ball control from

Fishlock. Tried to do a bit too much perhaps. All the way it goes to Nora

Berge. With an hour and a half played, Jayne Ludlow would have

taken this any day of the week. A very accomplished performance by

Wales, a couple of bad results, the Kazakhstan game give them a bit of

confidence and Norway are struggling to create any clear-cut chances.

Stensland. Good play from Sophie Ingle. Fantastic tackle, great

timing. Kayleigh Green fancies the sprint again. Then she goes, it is a

foul. Definite foul. She such a strong player. Looks as if it is a

yellow card as well. It's a yellow for Nora Berge.

She was caught napping, 48 caps, plays for Bayern Munich. This is a

chance for Wales. The first booking of the game but more importantly

free kick. Chance to get the ball into the penalty area. We need a

good delivery here, get some bodies in the box. Evans will take.

Kayleigh Green is in their, so to Helen Ward and Fishlock. Harding.

It's a throw. Looked as if that was a training ground set piece but it

didn't quite come off unfortunately. It will be a long throw from Harding

as she rubs the ball on her shirt. Get the grip. And it comes. Decent

one in towards Kayleigh Green. Wales again just cannot make Norway play.

Kayleigh Green certainly getting stuck in, enjoying making the runs

behind the defenders. Norway not having it all their own way at the

moment. Lund. The ball played toward Skinner, good

catch. Confident goalkeeping again from the debutante. In terms of her

first start. Great take, she's looked very accomplished.

Wales in trouble here, huge gaps in the penalty area. It wasn't too far

away. Kristine Minde saw the opportunity. Norway are going to

make a change. Almost took the lead. Once again Roberts got caught in the

right back position. They are having a lot of joy down the left-hand

side, that was dangerous. Two midfield substitutions. Emilie Haavi

coming on. Two changes. That shows, there has

been a big thing... Claire Skinner has been penalised, it caught

everyone by surprise, for time wasting. I have to say, that seems

harsh. Very harsh, we don't want to waste time because we want to win

the game. Norway making a couple of changes and that says a lot about

the performance of Wales. Harding trying to get behind the

Norway defence. Hegerberg. Wells of God to be

careful, low Drive, good save from Skinner. --

great build-up from Norway, select passing. -- slick passing.

Goalkeeper made a good save. Wales, with James charging forward. She has

options but could go it alone, Harding, it hits the bar! What a

chance that was! It was Kayleigh Green chipping the ball and hit the

crossbar. Great drive from James and a great pass, great strength,

unfortunately just clipping the crossbar. It needed the touch from

the goalkeeper but Kayleigh Green almost gave Wales bullied. My

goodness, Wales are really giving it a good go here -- almost gave Wales

the lead. This would be a great time to score. Norway are on the ropes.

It codes towards Kayleigh Green but she can't get her head on it. Wales

need to keep the ball down the side of the field now, keep the pressure

on Norway. They are looking a bit ropey. This was the chance, touch

from the keeper and hit the bar. The Welsh bench thought it was in. This

has been a great display so far you have to say, from Jayne Ludlow's

site. Fishlock wins it back. Kayleigh Green, in towards Fishlock,

James there as well. Norway are under the cosh. And Wales can sense

that Norway are under the cosh. Blatant tug of the short on Jess

Fishlock, she was very upset and rightly so.

Harding to take the throw. It's another long one.

Ingrid Moe Wold was booked for the tug of the short on Fishlock, the

referee saw it but played advantage. In towards Hegerberg, that's the

header and that's the goal! That is the danger Norway possess! The

header from Hegerberg and Wales, who have fought so hard I know 1-0 down.

Skinner has her head in her hands. But Hegerberg celebrates. Again

coming from the left-hand side, great ball in and at the far post,

the experience again. Vital goal for Norway. Such a shame. It's so cruel.

Just look at the expression from Jayne Ludlow. Even smiling. She

knows how well her team have done. But we said it didn't we? Hegerberg

was the danger. When you have experienced teams like this this is

what they do, play for 69 minutes and don't create much but when it

comes they take their opportunities. Don't think you can grumble too much

about the finish. Strikers header. We just hope Wales can bounce back

from this. Norway have the lead. If it stays like this that will be the

end of Wales qualification hopes. Character needed now, self belief

needed now from Wales to get back into this game, and maybe a change

or two from the bench as well. Norway now they have been in a game.

Still time for Wales to draw level. Maren Mjelde, the captain, towards

Hegerberg, the goal-scorer. Norway being very patient, just moving the

ball around. This could be a corner for Norway.

Evans had to make the header. Wales stayed off, didn't put any pressure

on the ball. They are tired and disappointed but we need to go

again, don't want to concede another goal. Wales about to make another

change but there is time for the corner before the change happens.

From the looks of it it will be Rachel Rowe coming on. Norway are

taking their time. Then it comes. Hegerberg again. Little flick on.

Hit her full on in the face. Those out for the goalkick. Time possibly

for Wales to make the change. Let's go back to Rachel. That's such a

blow isn't it because it felt like Wales had stepped things up? Yes,

tough to take. I think after the first ten minutes it was a bit

lacklustre. But then to have a chance hitting the crossbar, thought

it was in but we didn't deal with across very well, the cross in,

didn't deal with it and they got the goal. I

what do Wales need to do now? I am glad to see a change, get some fresh

legs on so they can push for the equaliser. Thank you. Rachel Rowe

coming on in place of Roberts. Not sure if that will mean a formation

change or whether it will be like for like. Seems to be a straight

swap. The sort of change needed at this time? It's a defensive change?

We need some creativity up there. Kayleigh Green, it's hard work up

there on your own as a striker, we need a bit more forward play I

think. Football can be such a cruel game. Kayleigh Green came so close.

But it was Hegerberg for this is better from Wales. A bit of

mis-control, not like our. We just need to try to contain them, keep

the ball when we got it and try to make some attacking runs if we can.

Wales have just over a quarter of an hour to rescue their hopes of Euro

2016. It was always a work in progress as a project for Jayne

Ludlow and her young side. We can forget how experienced Norway are

and how many times they have qualified for major championships.

This was always going to be a tough asked but the girls have done

themselves proud. Route one now from Wales. Just need

to get the ball close to the penalty area.

Many of these Norwegian players are professionals. They play for the

likes of Bayern Munich, Hegerberg, the goal-scorer, for Olympique

Lyonnais. A handful of Welsh players can say that. Jess Fishlock is one

of them. Great support here in Newport. It's

a great family evening out. The girls are played very well and it's

nice for everyone to kick off the Euros with a spectacle of this

calibre. Whatever happens against Slovakia on Saturday, we wanted a

party to kick started here but if they are not careful they could

concede again. I think that was a foul on Lawrence, the referee

ignored it which was a shame. Skin with the goalkick. Just a reminder,

that game, Wales against Slovakia live on BBC Two Wales. What a game

in store. Fishlock did not see the player

behind her. Tired legs now. Yes, we do little

bit tired, it's very hot out there and it's hard work chasing the ball.

Norway keeping possession, very comfortable on the ball, taking

their time and it is harder for us to win it back. James battling for

it. If Wales could just get the draw from this game it would do so much

for their confidence. Up towards Hegerberg, offside. About

a yard. Sophie Ingle, her hand went straight up in the air, she knew she

was offside. Well done. Norway are passing the ball with great ease,

and that will be a source of great frustration for Wales who may well

make another change. It looks as though they are. Looks as though

Chloe Chivers is coming on soon. Another youngster, 17 years of age.

That's something Jayne Ludlow prides herself on. Bringing these young

players into the fold. These are the games you never forget. So young,

playing in the senior women's team, she will cherish these moments I'm

sure. Looks as though it's Helen Ward that is coming off. Norway

quite happy to just sit and keep the ball, stay in their own half, not

too bothered about getting forward at the moment. This is a chance for

Wales through James, too many options. Norway just eat up the

possession. But it's still finely balanced. In terms of the scoreline.

Hegerberg has an eye for goal, might shoot, well that's a splendid goal.

You have to say. That was a call of international class, nothing Claire

Skinner could do about it. It moved in the air. Norway have a 2-0 lead

and the Welsh Euro dream is over. Great strike, great vision, finished

it well. But again, no pressure on the ball leading up to that shot

which is a great shame, but a quality finish. Here comes the

change, Chloe Chivers for Helen Ward. But Hegerberg has been the

difference in this game. A brace of goals, ahead and then splendid

effort. Again, you can't buy experience and she is extremely

experienced. She has represented her country very well tonight.

It would be a shame if more goals go in, Wales have fought so hard.

Sliding tackle. Skinner comes to collect. Important for clearer skin

are not to have hard head down. Yes, it can be the model lies in but we

held them for so long, you can't, you Norway unfortunately pulling

through in the end. Just to put this in some sort of context. It will

mean the end of the Welsh qualification hopes for the

Netherlands next year. Austria and Norway were always going to be the

top two teams, in terms of seeding in the grip. And that's proved to be

the case. It does take time to rebuild a squad. Some of these

players are extremely young, no international experience. Only at

junior level. They can take heart from the last 20 months and build

for the next two or three years. Useful run from Emilie Haavi. Long

distance shot. And have the quality of the strike from Hegerberg but she

fancied her chances. There will be another change for Wales. Kylie

Nolan coming on Fernando Alonso. -- for Nadi Laurents -- for Lawrence.

Regular for the under 17 side. Another part of the Jayne Ludlow

project for Wales. I am pleased for Lawrence, she's been in the system

for a couple of years and works really hard so it's nice for her to

get a good 80 minutes. Norway are going to make a change as well. It's

going to be coming. All right finishing strongly now. Norway

competing with Austria to finish top of the group. To be honest, second

place in this group will likely be enough to take you to the

Netherlands. But for Wales, two home games after this, and the chance to

finish strongly. Must be a tough job for Jayne

Ludlow. Because still a developing game, women's football, in Wales.

Certainly when you compare it to the time you played, there has been a

lot of developments since then. Huge development, I think, the Women's

Super League has enhanced the quality of the football, more

players can go semiprofessional or professional. At the end of the day

we need to galvanise the girls into continuing to be inspired to try and

play the game and get to the tournaments. That the aim. The aim

here this afternoon is to finish by not conceding any more goal.

Good passing side, Norway, always looking for the next team-mate.

Technically they are very strong, and physically as well. They are

vastly experienced. It is a throw. The full-back. Doesn't have much

support. The sun continues to shine here. Wales just can't get hold of

Norway. Then Hegerberg with so much space to score a second and kill off

Welsh hopes of qualifying for Euro 2017. Heartache in the end for

Wales. And confirmation that Wales' Euro hopes are over. This is the

table. Wales are stuck in third place with two games to play and

Norway themselves with one foot in the finals after their win. Its all

over for Wales. Well lugely disappoint -- hugely disappointing

for Wales. You know how they will be feeling now. Yes devastated for the

girls. We have been in this situation a few times. I spoke to

you before, we had a game in Switzerland that we lost and I

remember feeling heartbroken, that is what the girls will be feeling

now. I'm gutted for them. Was there anything that they could have done

better. They had so many promising opportunities and you felt it could

have been their day today. They had a couple of chances and good

chances. I was impressed with Kayleigh Green up front. I thought

we could have been tighter at the back and stopped that cross that

sort of was the hammer blow. What will Jayne Ludlow be saying to her

players? We see the Norway team celebrating and the Wales team still

out there. Jayne Ludlow chatting to them. What will she be saying so

them? Well I think Jane understands how it feels. Being a former player.

He will be explaining to them they can go again. It is going to be hard

for her as well. She is going to have to pick up her players for the

final games. We saw right throughout the first half, Norway having plenty

of opportunities. And this lady here who you're seeing, Hegerberg having

plenty of the ball and threatening to score and then second half that

is what she did. What did Wales do wrong? We were too deep. You can see

from the cross, there was no pressure. Which allowed her to get a

header and that was a great finish. A great header. With the second

goal, perhaps too much space. The Welsh defence are backing off? Yes

not getting touch tight. I can understand it is a hot day and the

girls were feeling a bit tired. We can't allow a player of that quality

to turn and not put any pressure on her. She has her head up. It was a

great firn. -- finish. We will see the opportunity that Wales had as

well with Green hitting the bar. Perhaps if that had gone in. It

might have been a different story. We jumped up. We thought that was

in. It was a good counterattack. Jones was outstanding. She burst

through the middle. I was impressed with Kayleigh Green. She made the

defenders' life tough and put them under pressure and didn't stop

running. I thought she deserved a goal. This is the moment where we

jumped up and hearts were in mouths. You thought Wales had got the break

through. I thought Angharad should have shot. But Kayleigh took it

early that probably made it more difficult for the keeper. But it was

a great touch on to the bar. I thought which were unfortunate not

We can't speak to the players now. But cruel, very cruel tonight? Yes

it was a fantastic performance. They held the Norwegians for so long, but

experience told. Norway know how to manage games. Wales can be proud. I

can sigh Jess Fishlock, I think she is coming over to us. A very

dejected Jess Fishlock. Do you want to come in here? That was a very

tough draw. Yes, I think especially after the first half, I think that

we were the better team and created a lot of chances and we were in it

for 60, 65 minutes and against a team like Norway, it says a lot

about us. But it is just, we need to keep in it for 90. That is the

unfortunate thing for us. So many positives to take from that game.

Obviously we are disappointed, but looking forward at looking at the

bigger picture, there is loads of positives. Thanks ever so much,

Jess. Positives that they will try to take out of the game. But it is

difficult Wen you have suffered that Kyne of defeat to feel positive.

Now, it will be tough and the girls will be feeling really disheartened.

But like Jess said, I think they can take the positives out of it. Norway

are a quality side and Wales matched them to be fair they had the better

chances at one stage of the game. And looking to the future, the focus

will turn to 2019 World Cup. What needs to happen. Does anything need

to change to get Wales closer? I think obviously Jane will look at

that, she will look at what is needed in terms of the squad and

what positions we need to strengthen. And I'm sure she will

make sure she does her utmost to make sure we have a good chance of

qualifying the. They need to keep their best players as part of the

squad. Do you see anyone deciding to call it a day. Or do you think the

key players will keep going. I think they will carry on. They're still

young in comparison to me I think. But they will want to try and push

on and try to qualify. So I don't see that happening. We hope they can

break that duck and get to a major Championship in the not too distant
