And We All and welcome to the first slick action of the 2016 what

Supachai project. Our featured match is a first round all Scottish affair

between Alan McManus and Stephen Maguire. Mississippi first session,

best of 19 frames, Willie and can with the commentary.

The key for him is to get pink or black onto the spot very quickly. In

keep an eye on it, because his quite close to the red with his cue.

here. 20. He needs to be top side of it

just about. , sure Stephen Maguire put it at a quick look at the

score, 15 points ahead. Three rounds with three blacks. He will not need

it the red that is on the top cushion. It does not look that

difficult, but it can be tricky if you are not close enough to it. This

is what the player is to do they, they look at the score to see how

many rates -- rates -- they look at the score to see how

many reds. he was perfect to get onto that

red, he will get onto it in open play. When he is in full flow,

will be a bit disturbed by. 62. This is all you want, one chance every

frame. If you know you are fat that one chance you cannot think you have

been unlucky. He cannot expect to pot everything all of the time. He

will be disappointed with the callous shot. -- careless shot. 71.

When you're in the balls and you miss, it is not good for your

confidence. He will be disappointed to cut the

job, but he will be happy with the red. It is a safety shot. APPLAUSE.

the ball. But of course it goes without saying, you can catch it too

Allen has been a bit fortunate, but in his hand up to say sorry to

Stephen Maguire because he is coverage is read down the right-hand

side. May try to play this off the cushion. Maybe they plan to screw

This is an excellent safety shot from Alan. Picnic target -- a big

target behind those three colours of their, to get him back into the same

position. He will be preferring the black, he

has to be careful not to push it onto a red. But he did not get that

quite as he would like. The couple ways he could play this

short. He could possibly be way before the middle pocket, he could

play it that way but years of going the other way, trained to land the

red year black. He does not want to go around the back of it. APPLAUSE.

This is his shot. He has got a good line from the last shot, we expected

to hit it this time. He did not want to hit it that way, but still it

does not look bikie is left anything straightforward for Stephen Maguire.

But you can see his intention already, he wants to bring that back

however. The cue ball is just by the yellow, he is in slip shot here.

but look at the blacks that are in the way. Maybe it is time his

chances on the island, the three reds to the right of the bunch were

cut by the other. You will have two put it cushion first. Very hard to

play it like that. One. That was the good shot there,

he managed to force the angle of the red to get it out for the pink. When

He probably felt that to play it at that pace, he was almost sure to get

Let's see if we can notice anything. He's not playing behind the browned

Not quite sure won't Stephen Maguire has put Alan McManus back in here.

He has a straightforward safety shot. This could be a mistake. The

like to get what you deserve. Even if he played the pot, I mean,

Stephen Maguire has got more cue power than 80% of the players. The

corner and the pink available. 42. Needed an angle on the pink. He

has gone a fraction too far. He can run through the bottom red. Played

It looks a slight angle. A bit unlucky. But, still, he will not be

worried. Following the 77 in the first round with a 76. He now leads

Alan McManus by two frames. He needs to get a foothold early in this

match. He cannot afford to be worse than 3-1 behind. Has it left this in

the middle? I am not sure he can see it. I don't think he can.

APPLAUSE. Completely mishit that safety shot. You can see by his

facial expression, quite bemused. Positive for some 35 minutes. It is

essential to get 50 or above to feel more confident than he would be at

the moment. 22 his highest in the opening two frames.

Purposely played to hold for this red fright in the centre. Can get

back to the black, if he wishes and that pink in the right bottom

corner. He is judging where he once the cue

ball to go. He wants to be almost the red is just putting it down to

see the pink spot, it is a bit tight. 15. 16. It looks late in the

middle of the three reds are just below the cue ball, will... Into the

left-hand corner as well. A decent opportunity here for Alan McManus.

That is perfect. 23. He would like it a bit straighter on

this black, he has to come in-off the cushion and that makes it

difficult because it he read that is directly below the black will cause

a problem. If you cannot get the desired kiss there, this mag are

wrong. Hasn't gone wrong? I don't think he has, and think it is OK.

We did not detect a kick, did we. He was concentrating so much on getting

into the red. May have dropped a little bit, but not 100% sure. By

his body language, it looks as though he felt he got a kick. He has

been let off the hook. Stephen Maguire, one. What a relief for Alan

McManus. He will be delighted it got back to

the table so quickly, looks a certainty to get a frame on the

board. Nine. The frame is more than safe now,

this not have to worry to the much. He is quite on frame on the board

and now he can settle down. Did not want it on the red on the way down,

still a little bit left on the side.

Yes and played straight into it. I've got itchy played cushion first,

he could not go wrong. But the frame is more than safe now.

APPLAUSE. 46. It just shows you, one shot can make all of the difference.

If Stephen Maguire had gone on to make the frame with what was a

kick, he would have been set on a chair or the time thought about the

black. How fickle snooker players can be.

This looks a little bit too hard. APPLAUSE. Alan McManus, 60. APPLAUSE

. This gets back into the first session, but he still trails by two

frames to one. That was a nice frame before the mid-session interval.

This amazing how different to tables can play. On another table, every

break of the black was tied up and no red ever came off the middle. How

can two tables plates are different? I don't think Stephen will be

putting them back in, it is an easy target but he may have a go of

putting the red into the green pocket. APPLAUSE. Excellent pot.

A nice angle on the green though. APPLAUSE. He is not on this red,

keeping it stuck to the pack. It will be a touching ball, no doubt.

Touching ball. He needs to cover this red era, yes

made a all shot. He may have two paid again, I am surprised he put

this to read in. Lets keep an eye on the red, but did not set from that

angle but obviously it did. Allen will not want to put Maguire back in

here, but he will take the red on. He would be very unlucky not to come

out into open play. He will have no idea what is going to end up, but

his left it to Stephen and he will take it on.

Where will this feeble finish? -- key ball finish? This could be a

retrieve for Stephen. He may be able to get it into open play, it may

only cost one point. I am just wondering if he will play this shot

with top spin, maybe go for the black into the corner pocket.

He tried to force it in using all of the pocket, but not on the black.

APPLAUSE. Allen Manaus, one. Just a little bit of movement. A few people

He put all his eggs in one basket. He knew that if you missed that cut,

it could have cost him the frame. Now he could win it. Excellent pot.

You have no idea where the cue ball is going to end up but it finished

perfect. Every colour in open play. He would expect 60 and above. Six.

He will be getting the black back in the spot, here, because it will be

getting it back. I thought he would be playing the other one.

28 stop just see if the red below the cluster of four can be plotted.

It looks like it does. He was looking to buy a angle he would need

on the lack if that did not pot. If he's not satisfied, he can go into

the bunch, knowing the red the right-hand side of the pink will pot

in the middle. It is one of those he could almost risk in the right hand

of the full ball. Surely on something. 36. Yes, red goes into

the right centre. He did that little pack of four reds beautifully.

Slight heavy contact, there. Just straight and up the cue ball. Try to

get the marks off it. It just jumped slightly.

45. On reflection, the way the match has panned out, it could be a good

result here. Yes. It has not been too bad as standard. 40 and 60 from

Alan McManus. He has taken his time but still pretty good when they got

in. 95% pot success is pretty good for

Stephen Maguire. Only 84% for Alan McManus. Hence the scoreline. That

is the difference. You need to be a rounded the 90s in all departments.

Especially at a distance of 19 frames, it would be tough to get a

high success rate. Alan would be disappointed because he has created

chances or himself but he has not scored as well as Stephen Maguire.

It was always going to be a difficult game. Stephen Maguire

favourite at Alan McManus such a tough match player and he has had a

lot of success over the years, here at the Crucible. A little double.

Oh, yes. APPLAUSE. Very nice.

Yes, the three frames that Stephen has won as one in more visits. He

would be pleased with the opening four frames. 74.

(CROWD GROANS). That was a shame. He leads by three frames to one. The

fifth frame under way. Not too sure whether they went to the practice

room. Pretty relaxed the way he has played, Stephen Maguire. Taken the

three frames all in one visit and that is what pleases you bias. --

blue. But only a few inches and it will be nicely on this bread. The

black appears to be available. Did not have to play for the black this

time, he could play for that pink or blue. -- this red. Did not hit that

problem is the yellow. He could get the red in the right-hand side

corner. This is not very good. APPLAUSE. What a beautiful shot. Of

course, in putting this black, he will be freeing the area. He has

another chance to score heavily if he gets this.

APPLAUSE. The ball push towards the middle but it does not happen this

time. A bit surprised at the pace he played. I would have played it a bit

harder to get the cue ball past the rest. The red in the right centre.

Just looking at the safety shot now. He needs to try and cover the red

closes to the bottom right-hand corner, as we look... Somewhere up

near the pocket on the left-hand side. Not the greatest shot that he

has ever played. He could take this on, Alan

McManus. Try to get the cue ball over to this side of the table, for

the black. Another callous safety shot from

Stephen Maguire, he is a future mismatch. -- careless.

He could play this a couple ways. He could try a slow drag for the

black, that is what is done. He has done it well, nicely controlled.

Nine. It is a little bit strayed on the black.

Is choosing a more difficult read in the middle -- red. A good recovery.

APPLAUSE. Is not too sure if this is exactly

straight on the red, he would like to be straight. Otherwise he will

have two nudge, it should be a problem to get onto pink or black.

Looks like he will take the pink. He must make this chance count. 34

points in front, for more reds, for more colours.

43. 44. It is not want to be straight on this and blue, he may

have a slight angle. He may be able to just force it.

49. He played well. Here we see, he is a 54 at -- they had. I do not

think that Stephen Maguire will be going back to the table. This all

came from that very careless safety shot from Stephen Maguire. But he

has taken these well, the first red was not easy but since then it has

been top draw. If he puts this red, he may go on to

make his entry. -- eight century. A good shot. 78. He has made 202

centuries in his professional career, Alan McManus. He looks

disappointed, but still a nice break from a McManus and he cuts a deficit

to one. But still it is the Stephen Maguire who leads three frames to

two. Stephen Maguire breaks off in frame

six, nine. Play. Again that has come up past the blue, quite unusual.

.Net affair but during this session. Yeah definitely parts.

He has a good angle on both green and yellow, the brown is no good but

he can certainly get onto the green. He needs to get plenty of

side on this however. Well done. Unlucky. I remember when he used to

throw the chalk at things like that. He used to do that the? Used

to throw it in the era of catch-up. -- in the era -- that was a little

idiosyncrasy of alien -- Alan McManus. For all money it looked

like it would creep in behind the bow, but it has left a possible

part. Not quite sure what he was trying to

kiss into the red and bring the black into play, I think he was

trying to get around the black. There to we see can play this type

of shot, if you are brave new contract to play it off two cushions

and nestle in behind the green. But of course if you are a bit short,

you could live a free pool. -- ball. The other way is to keep it a

bit harder, just like about. -- like that. Pretty good. APPLAUSE.

Eight possible shot for Alan McManus, if you can pot of a small

and beer to the right corner pocket... He tried it but was

unlucky. Just did not get into the cue ball enough. He likes to take it

on though, doesn't it. Has to go for the pink. He can see the pocket. If

he misses it, he believed his opponent in. -- let his opponent

in. But you would expect him to go for this pink. I am very surprised

he is not taking this. Alan McManus, on.

Just a little look to the right of the pink. He is trying to play this

is that shot. Not hit that well enough. He has been a little

disappointed but both players have caught the colours on numerous

occasions. He is going to have to play a little

cannon because it is not direct. Little line put in their, off that

read onto the other one. Well, that is hard to believe. How did it stay

out! But more to the point, how has the cue ball stayed on the cushion

to leave Alan with no shot. It looked a certainty. He has a choice

of pots. The middle pocket, to the left of the black but neither are

easy. Not quite sure if this is quite straight, this red. It is

going to be tough enough. He will need a good cue in. Well, he is OK.

He cued it very well, off the cushion. It was a decent shot. Now,

anywhere with the cue ball around the pink spot. And then he will have

a choice of reds. Five. He will want to get that black

back on the spot, as soon as possible. An opportunity here.

Well, Alan McManus would be absolutely delighted to have got

back into this session now, trailing three -1. Every chance here to level

it 3-3.. He has been the more sharp of the

two players. Came through qualifying games and won them convincingly so

he is sure to be high on confidence. One more red needed and we will have

3-3. APPLAUSE.

(CROWD GROANS). You could almost see it happening. But the position of

the ball, he is still strong favourite. You have to hit it

absolutely perfect to get that shot. More difficult with the rest. He has

a difficult black to the corner. Good pot, under the circumstances.

50 behind and 51 remaining. He needs to reds, to blacks and all

the colours to win by one. To reds, of course. He played the cannon and

missed it. Didn't get enough on the left-hand side. It will still take

this read on. That is if he can take the black nicely. Looking at the

angle, he looks a little bit too straight on. He will cannon it into

the red. What worries me is that if he plays in that shot, the red he is

hitting into may come back to the bulk carrier. He may decide to take

the pot. But he is playing the cue back in. That bounced very quickly.

Never had one bounce this morning, I cannot believe how the two tables

can play this differently. Came around to see if the balls

crossed, where the red is. He is going to do well to get the red back

into the table. He will not be taken by one of the right-hand side

cushion, certainly. (CROWD GROANS). I think that's a

mistake. Don't forget, Stephen Maguire needs to reds and to

blacks, of course. -- two. Now, can he see this red? It looks

like he can. Worth the risk.

APPLAUSE. Alan McManus wins the frame and we

are back all level again. That is exactly how you want to

break that frame. No problem with the pot, the problem

is with the cue ball. APPLAUSE. One. He sees the black and put it back

onto its own spot. Alan McManus, on. How hard did he hit that? Is lost

his way at the moment, Stephen Maguire. He has played they couple

of safety shots, played that last shot to jihad. He has to get his

concentration back quickly. APPLAUSE . A good pot. What sort of an angle

to see have yet? It will bring some red into play. Not too that. That is

worked out OK. Eight. Nine. He needs this cue ball to go. It

does not look good. He was trying to get onto two reds then, needs to be

read into the left or right and corner. -- hand corner. He is

plotting this red, can he avoid kissing the pack here? APPLAUSE.

Plays about shot in nicely. APPLAUSE.

Plays that shot in nicely. If he can get the cue ball somewhere

in this circle, there will be a couple of reds that was coming down

the line that again I think that was a heavy contact, just from the sound

of one. -- sound alone. You could hear it leading the table.

He is still pulling out some decent pots. He needs to get onto the black

very quickly, coming back onto the table every time for a red is not

easy to build. Same position again. Just a bit short, but he is still

OK. This time he has a chance of getting onto the black.

25. Slotted that in nicely, and he has a nice angle on the black as

well. He does not have to go into the reds if it is not fancied this

time around. He just caught the red their, if he had caught at the

repeated straight on. The fact he is flicked the red would give him a

more tricky angle now. Just having a look at the gap now.

33. He did not want that kiss on the blue. Playing it a bit straight on

this blue. He's swinging around the Anglesey,

this looks pretty good. This is an excellent positional shot. APPLAUSE

. In the positional shot of the match. A lot of topspin on the

left-hand side. 39. Let's have a look at this again, watch and force

it in using spin on the first cushion. Acceleration of the cue

ball was perfect. Alan McManus was 31 down, but the interval, overtime

and now he's in ascendancy. You have to keep your concentration or the

time. Nothing pots in this pocket apart from the outside red, so still

not enough of a cushion. I do not think that will get that that is

what I was saying, you have to be careful. He was like at number 45

inches further in the middle of the table.

Just one more red is needed to take the lead for the first time in this

match. 60. A good performance from Alan McManus, in the first two

frames he looks a bit out of sorts but now he is finding his stride.

61. Both of them have now gone past 90% pot success red. He has not

missed anything, he is 64 in front. He is decided it was too risky to

play the cut, so the break comes to an end. But more importantly, Alan

McManus will take the lead for the first time in this match. APPLAUSE.

I think this a little safety battle will help. It will be hard work, but

at least he can change the pattern. He will try to leave the rest behind

the pink until last, such an easy shot but it depends on the angles he

gets on the Indian export. -- the next ball is.

He did not get into the cue ball enough there. But he will hold for

the black. APPLAUSE. Making it a bit tricky for him.

He does not want to get below the red, he wants to leave that for the

last. He will pot for the black. That looks just about perfect 60.

70. He has gone to the far, and the sick and the sitting get the white

opinion the black. He did not go further, guys. A

famous snooker. But he has played it pretty well. His 40 points behind.

He does not want to leave the free ball. But I not quite sure where he

is going here. He is known as angles. Foul. Until now. It was a

strange way of playing it. He could have taken the red on the right-hand

side. Surely playing the plan cushion escape, he could leave a

free ball but there's a big target getting behind the brown and yellow

here, as well. Yes, he could try this shot and chip the red onto the

ball cushion. Tried to get the cue ball behind the black.

APPLAUSE. If it would have been behind the black, it would have

blocked the cushions. Much easier to hit off the left-hand cushion, of

course, but again, he has to get plenty of distance between the red

and cue ball. APPLAUSE. That would have been a

bonus, splitting the brown and yellow. He was almost getting right

back into the frame now but splitting the two, it gives Alan

McManus bit of extra security. Another good safety shot. He has

played it well. Straightforward. He has two make sure he gets a bit of

distance. That is pretty good. That is even better! He apologises. I am

sure he is not sorry inside. (CROWD GROANS). Another frame to

Alan McManus. He played well in that frame. He has taken the lead..

That is the only kiss that is no good. This red is available in the

middle. One. Not too sure whether it will

still be available after this shot because the black is unavailable,

really. It is hard to win the frame just off colours. Clearly, the pink

is still available. This is a good chance to get a sizeable lead. Hard

to get a break from where the balls are.

A little shake of the head. Whether he has not gone far enough, I do not

know. Plenty on the outside red. Hippie pleased to only score for

team from that position. APPLAUSE. 15. Counting now.

(CROWD GROANS). Can you believe it, after an excellent read, an

excellent read, he misses that! You never shook your head much, did

you! LAUGHTER. Hugh were the kings of head shakers,

Hugh and JP? He was better than me. He could shake their head! -- you

and JP. Seven. He has taken a riskier. This

is not easy. It is easy if it is tight to the cushion. I do not think

we can get the camera before he hits it. 50. Very, very good. Under the

circumstances, excellent pot. You do not see many better than that.

Especially after losing the previous three frames. A lot of pressure.

Look at what he was leaving, as well, should he have missed it. A

super shot. These of all calm from an easy miss

play from Alan. He must have thought he would get another chance from

where the lack was but an excellent pot on the black by Stephen

Maguire, a few moments ago. Still a little bit awkward. He could

go into the loose once if he wished. Not a bad idea. Not a bad idea.

Loosely packed. Just clears that. The reds. Put a couple more into

play. He can't get into a colour though. The red he has in the corner

pocket is hampered. Unless he can force it down to the right side

pocket to play the pink, it is and of break. Obviously he has had a

good look at it. Can he just get enough of it? It is very tight. It

looks like he feels like he can get enough of it. Hopefully straight and

the red up? Possibly. -- straightens.

He has decided he can, for this red.. Sometimes it is always better

to come around and have a look at it from the other end. Hard to focus on

the object ball itself. How can he deal with this?

APPLAUSE. He could pop the red he is looking at now.

And over two minute shot time and this is awkward.

These has to go in because he would be leaving the red.

Good shot. APPLAUSE.

He would not like the angle on the yellow. A bit straight. He may elect

to take the blue. Well, came right across that.

Stephen Maguire, 28. He did not look comfortable. He was not aligned

properly. I think he may have got away with it. He is on this red,

corner pocket. Through the gap? There's plenty of room. There it is.

That little knowledge on the blue. He did not want that.

He may have to take the blue now with the rest. That's added pressure

on this shot. A good shot!

APPLAUSE Good pressure pot that, from Alan

McManus. Just happened to look at the score.

Seven points behind. So, he is going to need those couple of reds that

are tight. One tight on the black cushion and one tight on the

left-hand side cushion as well The problem with this Ken is he will

have to flick off the red and flick into the pink and hope he gets on

the pink. Always going to be a problem. Has he been unlucky? No,

he's got the long blue. Just look at the red. That was tied up on the

left-hand cushion. He's had to bring that into play as well. That was a

nice little bonus. Still can't get on to a colour

properly can he? Anywhere in the whole wild world but there. Oh! What

does that mean? What hand gesture that was, I'm not sure. I thought he

made it pretty spring off the cushion. That is very unlucky to be

honest. He could finish anywhere on the table Yan bound to have a pot on

a colour. Oh! A trick shot for the rest now. A blue ball.

LAUGHTER There is no prize for guessing what

colour he was going for next there. But this is a little bit tricky. He

doesn't want to push this. Doesn't want to push it. Very ease to do --

very easy to do. He could play one of these little shots, you cue up on

the side and you sort of hit it, yeah. He sort of hit it at the side

of the tip. APPLAUSE

It is almost like you are aiming to miscue.

Surely he can stretch over and... You know, he can just roll up to it.

Brown ball. I'm not sure if I hit that twice.

Honestly, not in my opinion. Thank you. Well, fair ply to Alan McManus

are, that seven points is not a bad lead.

normal safety thin. So he might have to gothicer to miss the kiss on the

pink but then of course he has every chance of pushing the red over the

corner. That's a good safety shot from Alan.

Could try and play cushion there. Or just roll up to them. One or the

other. If he plays cushion for - yeah. A good shot.

APPLAUSE Played it very, very well.

Fun any enough Alan tried to play the same shot. What's worse is he's

left the free ball consider you can't believe it -- where you can't

believe it. I don't think the angle is there, is

it? He is just having a look when he pots the blue, because the blue

becomes a red, of course. He's just having a look can he get the nice

angle on the brown? Pot the brown, just miss the yellow, pass the

middle pocket and try and bring the three reds into play. Almost wants

the cue ball exactly where the blue is. I am not quite sure whether

there is enough angle on the brown from there.

on the blue again, of course. Blue goes back on its spot. Let's

what he decides here. I suppose the black is a good choice

really, because, of course, to in the the three reds he needs the

black on the spot to make it easy. So, he can't either play one cushion

or two, whichever he decides to play, but getting the back at this

end is a big plus. Not quite sure whether that angle

was there. He's put himself in a bit of trouble here.

Both these reds are tempters, but both frught with danger -- fraught

with danger. Very well played! A little bit

harder would have been better. APPLAUSE

He can't get on to one of these two reds.

He is looking at going around the back of the brown which is not a lot

of room. You would think he would be betting

going around the back of the green, because that's the better angle to

get on to the two reds. As long as he avoids the jaws of the

middle pock he will be fine. Very well played. Excellent shot.

APPLAUSE He has a lovely angle as well on

this red. He could pot this red, cannon into the other red, knock

that over the corner pocket and still be on the black. Hit it with a

lot of top spin. Yeah. Knocked it nicely over the

What a chance this is to pull two frames clear, another lead, whatever

happens, going into the final session tomorrow.

This is a frame that would rather hurt Stephen Maguire because there

are a couple of chances to win it. He could drop it in just for the

black or try and get up in the middle of table if he wished.

What a steel this is going to be! McGuire led 3-1 at the interval and

as Kenneth said in commentary, how many times the interval changed, he

couldn't have dreamt he would change the match so much as this. The

longest frame of the match as well, this one, this coming up to 28

minutes - well, 27 and counting. It looks like it is over now. Six

points if front, so just brown and blue needed.

Breaking 35 early on in the frame, there is lot more... He finished

That's a good safety shot from Alan. He's covered up the left-hand side

of the table. So he is going to get back into ball, because he is going

to have to weave through those five reds on the right-hand side. Can he

hit the outside of this one that's to the left of the black? Very good

shot that. May have left a shot to nothing,

Just got that little bit too much side on that. Obviously once you

kiss into the yellow you will only be left a thin put. So, two

cushions, try to get on the one to the right of the black. Well, just

wondering whether he attempt to go into the pack here. A good point. I

like it. Maybe. Where the balls were, sack look, I think he should

have gone into the pinks and reds. Especially now. Yeah. Pretty

straightforward shot. Just cut the brown in, just before the middle

pocket, with the cue ball and try and bring that pink into play.

But... It could be end of break. That was well spotted. Nice little

the centre as well. He's played that poorly. Yes. Still not a

name-winning chance there because the pink and black is out of pay.

The pink is in the middle or possible the right-hand corner.

Until he gets one of those in open play it will be tough to win the

dpram in this visit -- frame in this visit. He doesn't want the kiss. I

suppose, that's a second choice, blue into the corner.

He is just having a look at the pink here. He is thinking a couple of

shots ahead. If he pots the red he pots the pink. He would prefer if it

didn't go back on its own spot, because the red next to the pink

will be available into the left-hand corner pock. But he's made sure he's

left a nice angle on the PIN. So he will be careering into these three

reds, just left of the pink, and trying to bring them into play.

Oh! Never hit it hard at all. Why didn't he just go right through

the... Why did he hit it so softly? We will never know.

How many times have we said this in commentary that Stephen Maguire has

caught a baulk colour with him playing save? It must be at least

eight times this afternoon. Alan McManus knows that it would be

a miracle if he comes out of this session 6-3, having trailed 3-1.

He's in the a little bit anxious there on that last couple of shots,

just trying to be too careful. Cle if he comes out of this

He's played lots of pressure frames in his career so far, Stephen

Maguire. This is another one. Always tough to win from 6-3 behind. No

problem from 5-4. His fish expression tells me the

pink goes on its bottom. He's not on this. So what does he play there? A

lot more difficult than it should have been.

He pots straightforward. I mean, obviously he is cutting it back into

a slightly blind pocket, but you expect him to knock this in.

Well, if there is ever a time that Stephen Maguire needed a good frame

within a break it is certainly now. A lot of work to do, of course.

Three or four reds, five reds, still in the open, but it's that little

bunch of reds around the black that's going to be his problem down

the road. Wow! He has an angle here. Try and

go into the reds here, and maybe bring the black into play as well.

He won't have a lot of idea where the cue ball will end up, if he

doesn't go at pace, but he may decide to bring the black ball only

into play. He would certainly will -- certainly be happy with that!

I think the red will pass the paing into the corner if he can't get on

to that in the middle. He has an angle to get on to the middle OK, I

think. This is a key shot, getting on to a colour nicely so he can get

on these two reds. He probably won't play for the black, of course, after

this next red. He is having a look to see if that

red pots. If it does, then that will certainly release the one just below

it. And definitely a two potter, closest to the cushion, just

directly below the black spot. Health love to get the black back on

the spot as well. If he can get the black back on the spot, it will

certainly make the two reds as close to the top cushion -- closest to the

top cushion a lot easier. That's pretty good. Now, just

wondering here - will he take the opportunity to go into the reds,

or... If there is a gap between the black going back on the own spot and

the other two reds to pot one of those two reds, probably not. But if

there is not a gap, I think he will have to go into them.

Looks like he is going all outattack. Trying to take this out

and take a baulk colour, try to play it as a shot.

That is the problem when you play that shot. You get so close and you

don't come away with the jaws, and that's exactly what's happened.

Boy, he hit that well! This is cuttable. He came so close, Stephen

Maguire, to potting that. How has that gone in?

APPLAUSE Needs a thin kiss. He has got a thin

kiss. That is the most perfect kiss you could ever get!

Just looking to see if he has an angle on the red nearest the

cushion. He doesn't have. That is why he has to play the more

difficult red. Once again, he will have to push the block out of the

way and get on to the black in the middle or the pink in the middle.

APPLAUSE I don't think he's got the angle on

the pink to bring the red into play. So, blue, around the back of the

yellow. Try and... Get on to the red on the left-hand side cushion. It is

all about avoiding the kiss on the yellow and playing the shot. Which

he has done. Played with the one on the back cushion but played it a

fraction too hard. APPLAUSE

One point in it when the next shot is played. The other red will be off

a cushion. So, you would expect whoever potted the next red would be

favourite to take the frame. He doesn't like playing the red

that's nearest the cushion at the moment.

Similar shot to this earlier on where he played cushion first. The

thing he doesn't want to do is hit the red first because then of course

he pushes the red over the corner. If he plays cushion first he will be

pushing it towards the cushion. Not happy. He doesn't know what to do

here. So, he's decided to just to play the loose red that's in the

middle of the table. Play as if he's virtually snookered. Well done. Well

done. A good shot. APPLAUSE

Yes, he knew he would possibly be leaving the red on his hip but he

knew that for Alan to get on a clare off the red that is nearest the

cushion with the black being off it spot makes it difficult. A good

calculation, that, from Stephen Maguire. OK, he may got this and get

nice on the colour but get on the last red is tough. Goodness me! That

was nearer to me than it was the pocket, that one.

LAUGHTER Conduct this red, and the ball can

Just decelerated on his back swing there and that's how he's lost the

cue ball. I'm not quite sure whether he's got enough of the red. He can

definitely see the outside of the red, but has he got enough to pot

it? Assault of a sudden Alan is

struggling. I think it's the excitement of - you know, taking a

6-3 lead against one of the top players in the game. He's got a

little bit anxious in the last few shots.

Thats without saying - this pink is very miserable. I think he would be

betting playing off the cushion than snookering him behind the pink. That

was unlucky, wasn't it? Just another couple of inches off the black

cushion and it would have been straightforward. But he missed the

red a few moments ago when there was four reds left into this corner

pocket. A similar shot. Well, this is dangerous, isn't it if he takes

this pot on. Well played!

APPLAUSE . He deserves to be on the red. He

may be on it in the middle, but he deserved to be on the red there.

Excellent shot on the pink. It really was.

No. Oh! I didn't think it was in. I thought it was going to the far jaw.

Have a look at this again. I thought it was just going to the far jaw.

But it's a good pot. Now, one good positional pot here from Stephen

Maguire. Seven points ahead. If he pots the black he will still need

the yellow, green and brown. It is on both colours, there, green

and black. Neither of which are perfect to get on the yellow.

Virtually straight on both of them. That's a better shot than it looked.

GASPS Did he get a heavy contact?

The jury is out - can Alan McManus screw this cue ball in behind the

green? Maybe just leave the cue ball where the yellow is and try to get

the yellow down behind the black and PIN. Decelerated again. That's a bit

of pressure. Amazing what pressure can do to you. He's being playing

beautifully from the interval, winning four frames on the trot. All

of a sudden he is getting anxious and he's almost seeing the winning

post too early. Very, very good contact object the

yoling low. You can see he isn't happy with the cue ball.

That's a lot better safety shot. APPLAUSE

Once again, Stephen will be worried about pushing the yellow towards the

corner, correspond trying to get the cue ball probably in behind the

green there. Or that area of the table. He may decide to push it up

and down to knock it past the middle pocket. That's a good shot.

Even though the green is near the pocket, should you pot the yellow

you need a good angle on the green to get on to the brown. So advertise

frame has a bit more life in it for both players, even though there is a

14-point lead for Stephen Maguire. Well, the brown a guide to try and

clip this yellow into the left centre.

This was the shot I was suggesting here from green to brown. It is no

certainty. If he does get on the brown, he could pinch the frame.
