Day 5 World Championship Snooker Extra

I don't think Judd Trump was expecting this, he knows how well

Liang Wenbo plays but this was not what Judd Trump wanted to happen.

All he has been doing is sitting and watching his opponent. Just enough

room in between the red this time, they tricky little process. You need

a steady hand to do that, I can tell you. Could quite easily slip there

and scatter the red, I've seen that before. It happened with Sydney

league, the red went all over the table. -- Sydney league. -- Sidney

Lee. It is all about the split here. He probably needs to get into the

red, the second from the right and site would be good. If he hits the

one on the end nothing could would happen. But he hit that one. He

should scatter the red, he is a little bit unfortunate. He hit it on

the bounce, it opened up nicely, but for him I don't know if he has had a

bad run. Baby he can hit the one to the left middle pocket, but that was

a tricky spot to ask for the cue ball to be cleaned. If I were the

referee, I would live that the next shot. I am not a big fan of that.

The referee must think it is all right, but I would not. He has just

passed the red slightly, maybe he can get to the potting angle. A bit

of a gap there as you can see. When they could be touching, sometimes

you have to say no, we will, later. -- clean that later.

Look at that, 50 balls potted. You do not know how Judd Trump this

plane, we have not seen him at the table. -- is playing. When he goes

on, Liang Wenbo will be 2-0 up without Judd Trump getting a chance.

That is the nature of the game, when the cue ball is there for you to

get, it is up to you to do your stuff. It is not like golf when you

have your own ball. In this game you have two sit, watch and wait for

your opponent to miss a shot. This is very impressive.

Is cue ball controllers excellent. --

APPLAUSE. Done that nicely. He plays a good shot and once again back in

run position. The frame is already secure.

I am not sure how many players have started the first round but here

with back-to-back centuries. Every chance that will be the case here. I

would say it is a great idea to just concentrate as hard as you can and

clear these up, as we have seen Judd Trump sitting in his chair. Liang

Wenbo can just keep him cold in his chair, make these clearances.

APPLAUSE. This is as good a start as I have

ever seen to a match at the Crucible Theatre. Unbelievable. Certainly the

best start by a 100-1 shot I have sent. -- seen. Brilliant, absolutely

red. APPLAUSE. Back-to-back centuries, it does not get much

better than that. APPLAUSE. Unlucky from Liang Wenbo,

back-to-back centuries Andy now leads one of the favourites Judd

Trump by two frames to zero. As he delivered the duties eyes went to

the object ball. To look at the cue ball or the object ball? That should

do his eyes going to be read as delivered the cue. That is a pretty

good safety shot from Judd Trump, he needs a couple of them to get a

chance. But coming up a little short. I thought he would get in

behind the green, but really he cannot take this red on.

That is a pretty good return. APPLAUSE. If you can passed the

blue, he might be able to sneak on down the left side. That was well

played. There's always a prurient potter. In the does not live in any

final, some of the balls he potted were excellent. Some incredible

shots on his way to the final. But you need to have a grasp of what is

required in terms of safety and tactics, he has certainly improved

in that department. A good reply this though, from Liang Wenbo.

Excellent. I missed admit, since they recovered

these cushions they are playing better. Let the table was OK, new

cushions on this table and the other on and they are playing between. --

going for 28 minutes, and Judd Trump has not had anything to look at. To

This is not absolutely straightforward either, he has

decided to play two questions. -- cushions. Sometimes when the players

play that short, they are on the side of cushion. You would expect

Judd Trump to get closer but this one. But if you reverse words, --

over swerves he will put it amongst the red. He must not get each is

worth, but makes work, otherwise it will stay in the red. He just wants

them to have a look at the monitor. He will say, that is worth was,

where is it now? Nothing worse for Judd Trump here.

He has a tricky situation to get out of. He has to hit most of the ball

book-- balls to get at his opponent. That was a brilliant shot! It was

worth the penalty point. That was so difficult to judge there.

I don't know if he can see enough of this red, to play the safety shot.

It just went down the other side. Look at this, look at where he is

going to finish up here. He has an easy escape off the red. I think he

wants to get an even better safety shot. That is why he is getting an

extension on the cue and the rest. If he can just get it into the

corner. He likes that yellow, doesn't he? I think Judd Trump can

hit the one to the right of the bunch. However, what can he do with

it? His reds are quite high in the safety department. It is not the

worst place to leave the cue ball. It is a little bit thinner than

that. Not quite this time. We will see if Judd Trump can put the safety

in. Can he, create a chance for himself? He is coming up just a

little bit short. Brilliant again. It really is. This

will be the hardest safety shot to play. Wow that is brilliant. What a

shot, that was? A nice angle at the top of the table. Judd Trump is

fresh from victory. He just won in China against his opponent. He must

be coming into this full of confidence. We are at the 57th

minute of this match and Judd Trump is yet to pot a ball. He hasn't had

a ball to look at. However, I think Liang Wenbo is looking to play the

green and do a back flip just off the cushion. He tried it.

The first point that Judd Trump has got in this match is from a foul. I

would like to see that he is off the mark, but he isn't really. As you

always say you never sat all in any match until you win the frame. --

settle. In this case he might settle after he pots his first ball. He got

so dam close with that last escape. -- damn. He has played it well this

time. Look at the black all surrounded by five reds. He has

pushed the black over near the pink. The last thing, Judd Trump wants is

a scrappy frame. He would like to get in amongst the balls where he

started. There is a target up in that baulk area now. The brown has

been knocked off its spot. It is quite close to the corner, this one.

I think Judd Trump has got away with it this time. Maybe he can play to

see the cue ball finish. Once he hit the shot, hid it all wrong he is

thinking I have left him in the game. Just caught it far too then.

-- then -- thin. He has played a good shot there, Dennis. He has

balked off the ball where. He might have to play a deep screw shot here.

-- baulked. We know that Liang Wenbo has his potting shoes on this

afternoon. He could go for the black or the blue.

That was absolutely fabulous! Just fabulous. We can properly show you a

little bit later there. Liang Wenbo has really dent himself and allowed

himself to get the white of the cue. It enables him to get right to

the ball. He was quite close to that curtain, wasn't he, Liang Wenbo?

That is how close it is to the Crucible. -- Crucible. -- Crucible.

Do you see how Liang Wenbo's elbows bent to his arm. He bends his first

front elbow. He gets close to that cue. Made little bit of this last

position shot. He made it a little bit easier for himself. I don't know

what happened in that last one. Smiles all around. We see them

having to word with somebody in the front row. Well, amazingly he hit

the wrong ball completely there. It still ended up in a good shot. It is

definitely going his way at the minute. Great pot ball. First one of

the championship! 45 minutes for Judd Trump to hit his first red. I

think it is as a little bit of luck, the way it has been going

there. I would imagine that the score will soon change. Let us see

how well he is cueing. This is the first chance that he has had. He

would like the white to be a little more away from the cushion. Just, a

little bit more. This is a massive part of this match. His opponent has

played brilliantly well. He needs to stamp his authority in. These are

the standards that you are playing at. When it is your turn, you have

to be able to go. He has got them perfectly placed now.

You just see how it is going between the pink and the black spot. Good

practice in there. Once he gets going, he doesn't hang around. He

has set himself. He has become more professional, more dedicated. This

is especially true for the first part of the season. You get your

rewards when you have the talent that Judd Trump has. No half

measures when you are a professional player. He put your hours when and

sometimes you don't win. -- put your hours in. It is not going to be easy

to make a frame winning break here. There are some easy reds, a couple

of tricky ones though. Especially behind the black bear. The only his

hand where he is striking is OK. -- there. We haven't seen it in the

last few minutes, that he is hitting them well. It is very impressive. A

little bit of a kick me on that one. A great response here from Judd

Trump. Would you believe it, after all that. That must have been a

lapse in concentration. He took his eye off of that black. We spoke

about this in the studio. If you do not give every single shot 100%, it

is amazing what is missed. He took his eye off the pot. The funny thing

is, Liang Wenbo is also left-handed, therefore they are setting up the

same shots that Judd Trump has. They are on the same course.

Now, has he got the angle? It is going to be difficult to get one way

here. The way these reds are situated, it will be good to get one

here. He must have the angle on the black, otherwise he wouldn't be

looking at this. I think he wants to hit it on the right side he is

looking at the left-hand side on one. He might try and hit both of

them. You called it right. It proved so.

It is tough to developers. He hit the right red OK. Not much of a

safety shot he can play from here. There is a shot where you can stun

one read into another one. Maybe he doesn't have the angle so that,

either. Maybe he can send both balls up the table? There is not much else

he has got, other than just dropping on the red.

I am sure he has thought about that shot. He is trying to get the white

on the cushion. Never a bad shot. If you screw up a good cue ball tight

on the cushion. He has tried to plant it there. That is totally the

wrong choice of shot there. He has just thrown in the shot away there.

He threw away the frame as well. He could have got both as you have

suggested, John. All he had to do was make sure he was high there. He

could have hit that cue ball good enough. Shot selection was the

problem there. He thought about everything. Well, when you live by

the sword you die by the sword. That was a little bit too adventurers for

my liking. -- adventurous. I am just thinking, John, if I had a chance to

take the frame on that spot. That would have been another turning

point and it would have put Liang Wenbo three points up. There are

tough shots to plant up on the cushion. It could be a mini turning

point at this best of 19. A little reserve Judd Trump's

naughty snooker now at the end of the frame. He likes to try all sorts

of exhibition type shots. Kind of like that one. He is in a good

position. Well, which pocket is the green going to go in? Oh my

goodness! That was such a strain shot. That is the strangest shots I

have ever seen. That was extra naughty snooker, that was. Well

Liang Wenbo puts his cue on the table, he concedes. He will be

feeling a lot better now, Judd Trump. Liang Wenbo is still in the

lead. Anyway, we still have one more frame

for the mid-session interval. Could Judd Trump take that? He might enjoy

his cup of coffee. He never got a chance to pottable. -- pot a ball.

From his point of view, Liang Wenbo would like how this has started. I

think he is OK from the left-hand side of the table. As long as he

gets a good length for this safety shot. Yes, I think he is thinking

ahead. If he plays that one down there. Not so bad. Off of the

left-hand side it looks like one that Judd Trump will be jumping all

over. At least he can get the cue ball height on the white cushion. --

tight. He will have to end up playing it anyway. Fancy another

shot that he is going to take on? I mean, he has the ball colours to

cover the red with. If he gets a good one and gets to the cushion he

could decide to come off and land into the red here. He doesn't want

to risk that. It has been one-minute and 45 counting. There will be

almost two minutes thinking time. Looks like he's going to drop it

just either pot here. He cued it. Well, he did. I would have rather

left Judd Trump a long pot. I think that was a classic example of

overthinking. That was a brilliant pot. Do not get me wrong. But he

spent a lot of time looking at that angle. Especially, considering it

was not a very good shot. That was beautifully struck. Absolutely

perfect positioning. Of all these first-round matches, I was really

looking forward to this. It has really lived up to its expectations.

Sometimes it doesn't stand to start very well. However, this has not

happened here. Both players have started very well indeed. It is good

to other players to be watching. He has got a slight angle on this. He

might just have to hit it a little bit more hard to get onto the black.

That looked very easy. He is very comfortable now out there, John.

These pockets are quite difficult. He has pleaded like he is playing

pool. -- played it. He could screw back. He decides to play the 22.

There is still a couple of reds left.

It is so thin, he could not even hold. On which ought required here.

-- on good shot. He will take the brown instead.

There's one just behind the pink available. That was a tough shot,

the way he has played. Timed that beautifully. APPLAUSE. Did not have

that one will. He cued across that one slightly. He has won the left of

the pink. That will do nicely. 48. 49. We have a game on, Dennis. ,

looking forward to this, both players are doing well. Just a shame

there is an integral coming -- interval. But there always after

four frames. APPLAUSE. Just another colour and this frame

will be safe, he will certainly be in front. He is moving nicely around

the table here. Very smooth, and the scoreboard changes quickly with

these two players. This has been a fabulous break. There is the old

daisies, as I like to call them. Strictly dancing shoes. He will be

dancing into the interval at 2-2, he will be delighted. For Judd Trump to

come to the interval but this, that is some performance. Not to be.

APPLAUSE. What they stated these two players are playing at, cannot wait

for the interval to finish, they are all square at two frames each.

Thank you Hazel. Liang Wenbo has missed a long pot, this is half a

chance for Judd Trump. APPLAUSE. From the pocket camera, it looked

like it would stay on the lip of the pocket.

I did not like that flick of the pack, but was not not the worst.

Let's see if the interval makes any difference, to the way they have

played before. Straight out of the blocks, Judd Trump is come roaring

back. Since that attempt, there is a very difficult and along the top

cushion. Years this an easy black -- he has missed an easy black. ISIS

want to see the standard continue -- I just want to see the standard

continue. He has it that so hard, he has now three or four safe. He would

have been disappointed with his revers shot. -- previous shot. He

would still be in the driving seat if he had not begin. -- knocked it

in. He knocked a lot of the red towards cushions, he hit it that

hard. The one Liang Wenbo was looking out initially, it is

difficult to get good decision for that read

He just played the stunt shot to get one into the centre.

Quite a view read any of aggression, quite nice chance as

well. As long as Liang Wenbo, and his business with his position play.

Once he gets rid of the red, it is just above the black, that will open

up the pocket for the other two red. A good chance. Yes that is the

red he would like, but he does not have the angle on the black. Or he

can maybe screw back on the red. But he has other choices. He thought he

had missed that, as soon as he hit it is ought, I have missed. He

thinks he got a kick, but not sure whether he did not. Even with the

kick that like it would not go in. 90. That read this blocking the path

to the two reds, he would have two screw back off the cushion and

across the table. Picking into the bottom of the cue ball. Not bad, he

is quite the other on. -- he has got the other one.

APPLAUSE. A better angle this time, I think he can run this through and

leave the red we were talking about. Funny how he has been

scrapping for position, this is the key ball. He can't miss the black

for this spot. After all we've seen from Liang Wenbo, that was

unexpected. The only consolation for Liang Wenbo is that the black was

safe. Just a little bit of an awkward frame with where the red has

finished up, more or less the first four frames with one chance. He

would do well to make a 20 break here. The angle is back, played that

nicely. APPLAUSE. Let's see if you can get to that 20

break. He is on 12. Is brought on more. When you put like Judd Trump,

it does not matter sometimes. APPLAUSE. The were given 23, but

this will be unlucky. 24. This is some shot, with the extension on

their two. -- on the cue. It was very, very difficult. Without

using the extension, look how close he was. Not easy. Just shows you how

tough this pockets. That one looked really good but did not go in. He

should probably have played the shot, thinking the red would be

insurance. The black on the site cushion is more difficult. The only

thing I will say, I do not know if it is touching, let's see how he

goes about it. He needs an angle to have any chance

of getting up to the red. He somehow has to get near the circle to give

himself any chance. He will have two pilot this -- par less. People as a

way -- the ball is away, that was the best he could manage. A

difficult plant on frame three, let's see if we can knock it in with

a normal shot. APPLAUSE. Water shot. -- what a short -- shot. That

was a cracker. If he took it tight in behind the blue he would be in

all sorts of trouble. It is a bit of a stretch. He can just about get to

it. APPLAUSE. Perfect, great shot. That is where being a left-hander is

useful. That for me was the shot of the championship. That was a great

short with the yellow. He is lost to the cue ball there. Should have been

easier than this. Well done. Great recovery. He is going to need the

pink. The blue will put him 13 ahead, good news is there is a

deeper behind the pink. -- plenty of room behind the pink.

Let's see if we can drop in behind that pink. APPLAUSE. Might just be

OK, a bit close but he only needs the pink. A little tricky, so close.

Difficult to work the angle, you would expect to get at the not

straightforward. -- get it but not straightforward. APPLAUSE. That was

just as entertaining as the first four frames, and Liang Wenbo will be

delighted, he is back in the lead at 3-0. -- 3- two.

Always very interesting, and that is the way to do it. Back in the

1980s, when Steve was struggling he would stay on the shot sometimes for

up to five minutes. The fabulous clearance from Liang

Wenbo any last frame. Let's see this again, this is ridiculous. Fabulous.

Talk about keeping your head still, when you do that hard, he kept

everything still. . That was the shot of the championships.

Pushed on over the pocket but he has covered it. There is a path around

the back of the black, but it is a must pot for Liang Wenbo. A bit of

pressure if he takes it on, I don't think you can get back to the bulk

area if he has a go at the pot so he has two definitely knock it in. He

is looking to see if he left the cue ball they are --

is looking to see if he left the cue ball there.

APPLAUSE. He got the main part of the shot in, it is dropped on the

pink it is a result. He can pot had. -- it.

APPLAUSE. Well, what a shot. To take that one on, while. How the New

Zealand was that, as anybody play safe these days?

Big shot away from perfect position at.

Blue has been a bit of a problem for Judd Trump. If he missed the red and

got on the blue, that would be great. The does the pink because it

cannot see anything else. But sure if the peak goes in the left

corner, you could see a Judd Trump special here. That was not easy.

Lego down the table -- they go down the table, looks like he guaranteed

to be on the colour, but whether the land, on the red. There is an easy

safety shot, he feels it and get this and get position. APPLAUSE. I

think he is OK. That was a very good shot, he parked the cue ball but. --

a little bit. Going to be awkward, read to the

right middle, I don't think it is available. If the pink is not on, it

will have to be yellow or blue. But I think the pink might be on. We can

see from that picture it is on. Can you believe it. TEFL, not to jihad

Liang Wenbo. Liang Wenbo. you believe it. Careful, not too

hard Liang Wenbo. He tried that once bitten like it.

-- but did not like it. Judd Trump cannot afford to do

that. Has he got a kick there? That's have a look, hard to see from

that picture. Not sure. Bottom red pot here, he has a choice

to play. That is just a flick, no cue action. A bit of nerves. I think

missing the red has upset his focus a bit, he was not missing anything

like that earlier in the match. He has just lost a little bit of focus

has to be said. Funny little short of that one, I always prefer to play

the screw shot around the angles. Another chance, speaking. -- goes

begging. With that red going off the black, that would be what he was

studying. If he does play down the table, he has to get in behind,

enough room to make that pocket. He has to judge this correctly. He is

not played it well. Will Liang Wenbo be tempted? Judd Trump had a good

look at it. Liang Wenbo is having a good look at it. If it was a little

bit further to the left, the black, it would be so easy. It is so close

that he could finish up the red double-kissing the black and not

going in. We shall find out shortly. APPLAUSE.

I think Liang Wenbo feels that the black is too close to the pocket. If

he refuses and leaves the white and leaves the white ace, it will be

interesting to see whether Judd Trump has a go at it.

Server everything is safe now. The only read that could go now is the

one that is near the right side cushion. -- so everything. A little

bit of cat and mouse now. You have to be careful with your safety shot.

You don't want to play the red on safety and not get the black in. Wow

the cue ball is close. Where is that white going? Just OK. That

mid-session interval really changes the match all around. That proved

correct. It is now a tactical battle. That is quite a good shot

there. Judd Trump has cut off the left-hand side. The pink is blocking

the left three. Especially in this area. This is actually quite tricky

to play safe. I cannot see one that is not jumping off the page at the

minute. He is that cooking at that black again. The one next to the

pink, is more difficult the only one I have mentioned before. Just off

the cushion. That, you could say it has very little chance of going off

the black. It is a double-kiss. The chances of that going off the black

are maybe three out of ten? Even then. He would have to be so very

accurate, Liang Wenbo. Just a little bit of a containing shot. This is an

event it for Judd Trump now. That will do it now. It was a well

thought out. It really got him out of trouble. That was the objective

of the exercise. That was a advantage the Judd Trump. Not easy

to get past the brown towards the yellow. I wonder if it could be

proven to get to that corner pocket where Judd Trump is now. You always

have to go between bowls. -- balls. It was just awkward. Well, Judd

Trump has just found a pot. You can see he got the cue ball, I would

settle for that. Almost adjusted near the brown. That was a clever

little shot, wasn't it? You know what, John, it is great to see

back-to-back centuries. It is the first time it has been done to this

flower. This little battle here is just X I think. -- for this player.

-- it is X site in. -- exciting. That ball is gradually getting

knocks towards the black. -- knocked towards the black. However, look at

that green. Because of whether Green is they will have to play it in all

the time. He keeps looking at that shot. Can I put the red in-off the

black? Should I risk it all? The double-kiss on the black looks on.

He will have to be so precise with this. And he was!

Look where he got the cue ball in case he wasn't sure. Look where he

put it, John. That was well played. That was very tight. I thought he

was going to get a double-kiss there. That is one of those funny

little ones. This is a good smell, as you said John. He really played

it well. He has done marvellously well not just a pot the ball, but to

play some great snooker. That was really well played. Judd Trump will

have to do very well to get out of this and not stick him up.

This is really a horrible shot for Judd Trump to play. I wonder if the

player has just touched it. Did they call it foul, straightaway?

Thank you. This will be some escape if he can judge the angle to get

just off the reds. Did you see how he had two goes and played a

perfectly, there might be a pot on here? ? Of course, these points are

building up. That was to thick this time. He has hit two reds. Let's

have a look at it. Has he got an angle to get to the pink? I am

really not sure. He might just be able to get in between the reds. I

did not know if he can run it around. He might be able to do that.

There might be a lot of topspin. APPLAUSE

Good pot for those bottom three that were out. That is the only potential

shot that he has got left. He is trying to get a little bit of action

on it. He has done it incredibly trying to get a little bit of action

on it. He has done it incredibly well from that position. I did not

think you could get there from there. That was a cue angle. Towards

that middle pocket. He just knocked it in there. What a great shot!

If he has covered, he is quite fortunate. The pink has blocked the

way for the left corner. The two reds are blocking the path for the

one in the right corner. What a great result he has had there?

You're not kidding. He has split up the reds. That is incredible! Now,

there is only one possible red that is pottable. APPLAUSE It will go

into the corner if he has no safety shot on. He might be forced into

taking a very difficult pot on. I think you are right Dennis. I think

he doesn't have a choice. Brillant, absolutely brilliant! Yes, that was

fabulous. That is some brilliant cueing. That was really a great

shot. Especially in those corner pockets that you see. APPLAUSE.

Now, there is a lot of noise from the other table as their match comes

to an end. It is the wrong time for Judd Trump as he didn't play that

quite well. There is another cracking pot to get here. The pink

has come to Judd Trump's rescue. He might be able to bend that around

the pink. You think you could play that with a little bit of a swerve.

You will see the work take right down the shot. There you go! That

was plenty of perfection. It certainly was there is the side

taken now. This swerve was just out on the cue ball. It just stopped

inches earlier you could not ask for much more from that shot. He has had

some quite loose positional shots. He was just right next to the baulk

area. He just lost the cue ball on a couple of shots. Perhaps, that was

not as intended. Suddenly it has gone very quiet here. There was

probably a distraction that caused Judd Trump to hit a bad shot. After

that frame the curtain will be coming up and the two players will

have the courts to themselves. The arena to themselves, I should say. I

would definitely be playing on the side cushion that is in play. It is

43-19 behind. He is really going to need it. He's not going to. I would

be tempted to get that right out. Particularly, the fact that he is

left-handed and that is the right hand side cushion. A very attacking

player. That is if he gets near the shot. Where is the red going to

finish up? He could have finished perfectly on the black had he not

knocked the red in. perfectly on the black had he not

knocked the red in. However, it is far from easy. C how Judd Trump goes

about it. -- C. See. I think he was thinking there about possibly

potting a red, moving around. It is never the best idea. Sometimes the

white will stick where the red is. He is trying to look whether he can

pot the red and then the pink looking behind where that red is. He

has tried to move it and that was always the problem. Now he has at

pressure pot on himself. He put that on himself that shot. Wow this is

far from easy, this. This is definitely a tough shot and a half.

He has to hit this well and cover the red. He has not covered the red.

Yes, that is a poor shot. If you're going to try and move the yellow off

the cushion, then at least get it off the cushion. Do you know what I

mean? He has not snookered them. He has no more yellows in play. If he

hits this read full in the face, it will be close to getting it in the

right middle pocket. It is the old double. The old double. He is

thinking, maybe should I cut this one in?

He's now looking up at the other end of the table. This tells me he will

be sending around all the angles. Around the angles, by the looks of

things. That was the cartoon. He was looking up the table. -- that was

the cut in. He gave it a whole lot of thought. He cut a very difficult

read in. He tried to even moved the yellow, believe it or not. -- move

the yellow. I am sure he's trying to put one of them safe, Jonathan. It

might be just better to put the blue on the side cushion. I don't know
