Good afternoon and welcome to coverage of the track cycling world

:00:43.:00:47.

championships. We will be with you over the next five days as the

:00:47.:00:51.

British team take to the boards again in search of more medals.

:00:51.:01:01.
:01:01.:01:23.

What a night we have got to look forward to a. It is going to be an

:01:23.:01:33.
:01:33.:01:35.

absolute thriller. They were absolutely flying, Great pretender.

:01:35.:01:39.

Great Britain are the world champions and they are now going to

:01:39.:01:48.

become the Olympic champions. They are on fire! They are on fire!

:01:48.:01:53.

cannot believe it. I cannot believe this has happened to me, I'm really

:01:53.:02:03.
:02:03.:02:11.

cannot. Chris Solly sets a new world record. -- Chris Hoy. Kenny

:02:11.:02:19.

is the world champion. Look at the time, it is a new world record.

:02:19.:02:29.
:02:29.:02:37.

is a mad explosion of emotion. is the Olympic champion. Something

:02:37.:02:43.

to make you smile and cry at the same time. Time to write the next

:02:43.:02:53.
:02:53.:03:01.

chapter post London and that Reminders of the past and a few

:03:01.:03:08.

secrets. The capital of Belarus plays host to the old and then you.

:03:08.:03:13.

Six Olympic champions from London will race and there will be a great

:03:13.:03:18.

deal of interest in some of the younger riders, Becky James in the

:03:18.:03:24.

sprint and the pursuit teams. That is the boys of Jill Douglas.

:03:24.:03:30.

Joining me is Craig McLean, a world champion in 2002 and plenty more

:03:30.:03:40.
:03:40.:03:42.

besides. Look at the power, already zipping down the back straight.

:03:42.:03:48.

Great Britain take gold. You have got to get the credit to Craig

:03:48.:03:58.

McLean. Craig McLean is the new leader of the competition and he

:03:58.:04:06.

starts to celebrate and celebrate in some style. Winner of the men's

:04:06.:04:12.

kilometre competition with a storming ride of 1.0689. Craig

:04:12.:04:18.

McLean of Great Britain. anything dates you, it was the

:04:18.:04:24.

helmet. They have changed a lot. They certainly have. It looks quite

:04:24.:04:29.

appropriate for a Minsk. That was where we were supposed to wear

:04:29.:04:36.

safety hair once as opposed to aerodynamic helmets. You have done

:04:36.:04:43.

this before. You have done the Olympic Games and then a world-

:04:44.:04:47.

championship straight afterwards. What will the mine said be in the

:04:47.:04:53.

team? Some of them seem keen. It surprised a few of the riders how

:04:53.:04:57.

quickly they were able to come up to form after the Olympics. They

:04:57.:05:02.

had a lot of time off and they enjoyed themselves and it was after

:05:02.:05:08.

the celebrations which was the hard point for them. That initial block

:05:08.:05:13.

of training. For a lot of them, Jason Kenny especially, his form

:05:13.:05:20.

came back very quickly and that motivated him even more. David

:05:20.:05:24.

Brailsford has called is a changing of the Guard a little bit. It is a

:05:24.:05:34.
:05:34.:05:36.

Six existing Champions in there and four riders who have never been to

:05:36.:05:42.

a world track championship before and the youngest is 19 years old.

:05:42.:05:45.

The interesting thing is the athletes with experience are also

:05:45.:05:50.

very young and they will be in Rio as well. More than likely. Ed

:05:50.:05:58.

Clancy is the oldest at 27. If you look at Chris Solly each -- Chris

:05:58.:06:08.

Hoy, he is 36. And he is still growing strong. The expectations

:06:08.:06:12.

and we sold a montage of London with seven out of 10 gold medals.

:06:12.:06:18.

What are you looking for in these championships? The points system is

:06:18.:06:23.

a rolling qualification leading on to Rio and every race counts. It

:06:23.:06:28.

would be nice to come out with some titles, but exposing these

:06:28.:06:30.

youngsters to a high-level competition is crucial at this

:06:30.:06:36.

point because this could be the team that goes to Rio. I do not

:06:36.:06:40.

think expectations in terms of winning gold medals will be high in

:06:40.:06:45.

the camp. But they will certainly try to do that. We have got Laura

:06:45.:06:50.

Trott, Jason Kenny and Ed Clancy and who would you pick out of the

:06:50.:06:56.

younger people coming through? Elano Barker has proved her mettle

:06:56.:07:01.

and she stepped into the women's team pursuits and replaced Jo

:07:01.:07:05.

Rowsell. Jo Rowsell is not faced, but there is a lot of healthy

:07:05.:07:10.

competition. She was a junior world champion and she has proved what

:07:10.:07:15.

she is capable of and she is going to do on to do great things, I

:07:15.:07:20.

think. We have got five days of competition. These are the

:07:20.:07:30.
:07:30.:07:40.

highlights of day one. The men's No Jess Varnish because she is

:07:41.:07:47.

injured. It is Vicky Williamson and Becky James. This is a really

:07:47.:07:54.

experienced team. Sam Harrison joins the team. They always look

:07:54.:08:00.

good. Plenty of new faces in the team and a changing of the Guard in

:08:00.:08:04.

the BBC's Sports cycling team as well as Hugh Porter moves on to

:08:04.:08:10.

pastures new. One of the great voices. I have been on the journey

:08:10.:08:15.

at every Olympics since Ahsan delays and 99% of mycology seems to

:08:15.:08:22.

end on the cutting-room floor. Now 99% of our commentary goes out on

:08:22.:08:31.

air. You cannot get better than that. -- the my commentary. Mark

:08:31.:08:38.

Cavendish has won for Great Britain. Chris Hoy and brings the team

:08:38.:08:43.

Venables stock Bradley Wiggins is the Olympic champion. It is gold

:08:43.:08:51.

and gold for Bradley Wiggins. He is going to take the gold medal to

:08:51.:09:00.

become the Olympic champion. The Victoria Pendleton takes the gold

:09:00.:09:08.

medal. An unbelievable ride. They are on fire. Bradley Wiggins cannot

:09:08.:09:14.

believe it. We can, we have just witnessed it. This man is

:09:14.:09:24.
:09:24.:09:24.

unstoppable. He is the Olympic road race champion. I ran out of

:09:24.:09:31.

superlatives a long time ago of. The real McCoy, Chris Hoy. I reckon

:09:31.:09:38.

that is a heavier fall than the crash. We all know this is going to

:09:38.:09:47.

be on A Question of Sport. Who is going to get it? Chris Hoy gets the

:09:47.:09:56.

gold medal. That is a bit unfair to show. I am going to get under the

:09:56.:10:03.

table. I am delighted to say he will be with us for the Winter

:10:03.:10:08.

Olympics. When you look back at all your great races, his voice must be

:10:08.:10:13.

in your ear as well as all the pictures. It ease and his voice is

:10:13.:10:17.

synonymous with the cycling and in all these old clips he adds a

:10:17.:10:23.

little bit of drama to the raising and he is the most mimicked

:10:23.:10:28.

commentator in terms of some of his catchphrases within the GB camp.

:10:29.:10:35.

Chris Hoy, the real McCoy, springs to mind. Yes, and he has been part

:10:35.:10:39.

of the furniture, certainly in my career time and looking back to

:10:39.:10:44.

Chris Boardman's time as well. Let's get to the action as well.

:10:44.:10:50.

This is the men's key low, the one kilometre time trial. We have got

:10:50.:11:00.
:11:00.:11:00.

X'ian MIT and he is in great form. He's suffered from a few injuries,

:11:00.:11:06.

but he has had a good block of training and it is amazing the

:11:06.:11:12.

difference the consistency makes. guess the big moments will be

:11:12.:11:16.

stepping into position three in the team sprint, Chris Solly's position

:11:16.:11:21.

for many years. There are big shoes to fill. The one kilometre time

:11:21.:11:27.

trial is not an Olympic event, but it is a world championship event.

:11:27.:11:33.

It is part of the training for the third man position. Chris cut his

:11:33.:11:37.

teeth into one kilometre time trial and that is what made him such a

:11:37.:11:42.

good team-mate in the team sprint. Herr do you think he will cope with

:11:42.:11:47.

that pressure? I do not think there is pressure to be the next Chris

:11:47.:11:54.

Hoy as such. The event is evolving style. Especially the new rule

:11:54.:11:58.

change in terms of the changeover, it makes for a slightly different

:11:58.:12:04.

event. He will not be looking to mimic Chris. Well, he will be

:12:04.:12:08.

looking to mimic him, but I do not think he will be looking to surpass

:12:08.:12:18.
:12:18.:12:23.

them. A our committed team is Chris Boardman.

:12:23.:12:32.

They are halfway through the time trial. That is the Italian. The

:12:32.:12:37.

crowd so far have seen nine riders in this particular event. Ed

:12:37.:12:47.
:12:47.:12:59.

Dawkins from New Zealand has set for third fastest. The Italian is

:12:59.:13:04.

tightening up his post wraps. This is from an incident from several

:13:04.:13:14.
:13:14.:13:31.

years ago. An Australian who pulled event was dropped from the Olympic

:13:31.:13:36.

Games after Athens into Besant and Ford. At the time it did not look

:13:36.:13:39.

great for Great Britain with Jason Queally winning in Sydney and Chris

:13:39.:13:45.

Hawick winning in Athens, but things have turned out great for

:13:45.:13:50.

British cycling since then. It is a classic Blue Riband event for track

:13:50.:13:56.

cycling. It is not difficult to follow. The fastest rider over four

:13:56.:14:02.

laps wins. In it has made a comeback. It is a proving ground

:14:02.:14:10.

and a training event for riders to go on for the group Sprint. Man

:14:10.:14:15.

number two and a man number three need that endurance. He is just

:14:15.:14:21.

under half a second down on the fastest time. It is all about how

:14:21.:14:25.

deeply he can dig in and keep the gears at turning. Has he got the

:14:26.:14:33.

power to do so? That is the second fastest time. That was a good

:14:33.:14:42.

finish by him. It was not quite the best start. The made it laps served

:14:42.:14:47.

him well. He died towards the end, but not as badly as the others. He

:14:47.:14:52.

has got to be happy with that. The accord due respect to the riders

:14:52.:14:57.

who have gone so far, all 10 of them, we start to get to the meat

:14:57.:15:03.

of the order now in this 19 man field. The event comes to a

:15:03.:15:13.
:15:13.:15:22.

crescendo with the seeded riders at track. Another British rider who

:15:22.:15:29.

made their world debut aged 20 was Jason Kenny so so maybe that bodes

:15:29.:15:39.
:15:39.:15:49.

ahead of the Polish rider. Kian Emadi made his World Cup debut this

:15:49.:15:59.
:15:59.:16:01.

winter. He did very well placing second in this event in Calais.

:16:01.:16:07.

am really looking forward to. He started at the same age as me

:16:07.:16:11.

actually, aged 13. He has done some road. He probably settled into the

:16:11.:16:15.

sprinting groove. He had to fight his way into the team her through

:16:15.:16:20.

stronger opposition. He earned his place and the sprint coach is happy

:16:20.:16:26.

with his progress and I'm fascinated to see what he will do.

:16:26.:16:30.

Yes in this event and the team sprint as well. He will fit into

:16:30.:16:40.
:16:40.:16:45.

the sizable shoes of Sir Chris Hoy. Let's see how he does, Kian Emadi.

:16:45.:16:53.

He was born and raised in Stoke-on- Trent. That's Iain Dyer just

:16:53.:16:57.

kneeling done. It was Shane Kelly of of Australia

:16:57.:17:03.

who pulled his foot out and lost an Olympic title because of no toe

:17:03.:17:08.

straps and everybody relies on the toe straps for the extra belt and

:17:08.:17:18.
:17:18.:17:19.

Britain. In the next minute or so we will

:17:19.:17:28.

see how he fairs. This is his first ever ride at senior levels at the

:17:29.:17:37.

World Championships. He is getting encouragement from Iain Dyer.

:17:37.:17:42.

He looks very, very solid. The second fastest time.

:17:42.:17:46.

Chris, he looks very, very smooth. He looks better than anybody else

:17:46.:17:50.

we have seen and at the half-way mark he leads the way. It is Kian

:17:50.:17:53.

Emadi for Great Britain. He comes up towards the bell.

:17:53.:17:59.

He is pushing a big gear there. He He looks well on top of it. Again,

:17:59.:18:04.

encouragement from Iain Dyer. Can he hang on now? Four tenths of a

:18:04.:18:07.

second second up. Half a length to go for Kian Emadi of Great Britain.

:18:07.:18:12.

He has got to dig deep and see what he has got left and just a few

:18:12.:18:20.

meters towards the line. Is it the fastest time? Yes, it is by nearly

:18:20.:18:25.

half a second. That's an excellent ride by Kian Emadi. Well, he will

:18:25.:18:30.

be pleased with that. That was a world-class ride. He will be

:18:30.:18:35.

pleased with that. If he is not, he should be. A very, very solid ride

:18:35.:18:42.

there. The 20-year-old leads the way now.

:18:42.:18:49.

A lot of muscle there as he took that out of the gate. You could see

:18:49.:18:52.

him fatigued towards the end. His shoulders were dropping, but he

:18:52.:18:58.

stayed with it all the way around. A good line all the way round.

:18:58.:19:02.

Not only did you look committed, but he looked technically good,

:19:02.:19:06.

didn't he? He was very, very smooth. Well, we know with the British team

:19:06.:19:11.

they do a lot of technical drills. It would be second nature to him

:19:11.:19:16.

the way that he rode that race. How to come out of the gate. They do a

:19:16.:19:22.

lot of technical training. Here is where he brings the

:19:22.:19:31.

don't doubt his is a name that is unfamiliar to most people watching,

:19:31.:19:35.

but it is fair to say his a name that we will need to remember as we

:19:35.:19:39.

will be hearing it again and again. We will. Half a second clear and it

:19:39.:19:42.

is quite something at this level of competition.

:19:42.:19:45.

Some descent riders to come as you would expect.

:19:45.:19:55.
:19:55.:20:18.

Among those still to ride, Eric Wagner from the Czech Republic. So

:20:18.:20:25.

many of the riders are around 20. This is the beginning of the next

:20:25.:20:30.

four year cycle. I was looking at my notes and looking at the

:20:30.:20:34.

different riders and their ages and the British team, the average age

:20:34.:20:37.

dropped dramatically. It really is a young squad, but that seems to be

:20:37.:20:41.

the case across-the-board. A lot of young riders coming through and if

:20:41.:20:51.
:20:51.:20:53.

you say early 20s and 20 and under is not unusual at the moment.

:20:53.:21:00.

A few final words of encouragement there for Wagner and just a few

:21:00.:21:05.

seconds to wait now before his ride at the World Championships. The

:21:05.:21:09.

Czech junior kilo champion and senior champion in 2012. To give

:21:10.:21:17.

you an idea of what we should be expecting here. One in a 1.08 last

:21:17.:21:27.
:21:27.:21:33.

year by Stefan. He is not just about to complete the first

:21:33.:21:39.

lap of four. He is three tenths down. He made a descent start.

:21:39.:21:47.

Half-way down the back straight on lap two. There is a lot to give

:21:47.:21:54.

away three three tenths. It has gone up to half a second. It

:21:54.:22:00.

could turn into a damage limitation exercise.

:22:00.:22:05.

Cane Kian Emadi is rapidly moving towards a podium position.

:22:05.:22:10.

Wagner is over a second down at the bell and visibly tiring up a little

:22:10.:22:14.

bit down the back straight as he go goes into the banking away to our

:22:14.:22:24.
:22:24.:22:26.

left for the last time. And crawls towards the finish line.

:22:26.:22:31.

Crawls relevant to the times he did for his first two laps. I will have

:22:31.:22:37.

to get statistics on the speed between lap two and the last

:22:37.:22:47.
:22:47.:22:48.

quarter of the lap. I would guess it is a or 6 kmp. The lack of

:22:48.:22:55.

oxygen and the build up of lactic assit they start to -- acid they

:22:55.:23:03.

start to slow the pedals down. Emadi leads the way currently. Kian

:23:03.:23:10.

Emadi is still warming down in the centre of the track. He was well

:23:10.:23:16.

received by the British coaching staff and a case of pats on the

:23:16.:23:20.

back all-round produced by the 20- year-old. He is still puffing and

:23:20.:23:23.

blowing down there. I am not surprised. It can take you 20

:23:23.:23:30.

minutes to get your composure back. I wonder did they tell him he had

:23:30.:23:36.

to compete in the team sprint. has just collided with somebody on

:23:36.:23:38.

the track. He continues his warm down.

:23:38.:23:44.

This is Eric Engler from Germany. The 21-year-old made a great start

:23:44.:23:51.

to the World Cup meetings, winning the team sprints and the individual

:23:51.:23:55.

individual sprin and he is the current -- sprint and he is the

:23:55.:24:02.

current German German champion. What sort of threat will he pose to

:24:02.:24:07.

the time set by Kian Emadi? He is another youngster, isn't he, at 21?

:24:07.:24:11.

He is part of the team that won the team sprint in Calais at the recent

:24:11.:24:15.

World Cup. Yes, a team sprint Gold Medallist

:24:15.:24:20.

in the under 23 championships as well. Good times for Germany in

:24:20.:24:24.

track racing. They have been strong over the winter thus far.

:24:24.:24:29.

They have really come forward this Olympics, in the run-up to the

:24:29.:24:39.
:24:39.:24:45.

Engler, the first of two German riders to come here.

:24:45.:24:53.

And Eric Engler is on his way. Completely locked arms. You see the

:24:54.:24:56.

different style as he uses his own arms as leavers for his legs to

:24:56.:25:02.

push against. Very, very muscular the Germans. They don't go for

:25:02.:25:05.

speed and for light riders, they like the bulk.

:25:05.:25:10.

He is fastest after the first lap. That's a very solid start, isn't

:25:10.:25:15.

it? It is solid. It is strong. He got on top of the gear very, very

:25:15.:25:18.

quickly. At the moment he looks comfortable as he powers around the

:25:18.:25:24.

track. He is over two tenths of a second faster than Kian Emadi and

:25:24.:25:26.

it is about whether he can keep it going.

:25:26.:25:34.

He chose a low gear as well. Particularically a solid ride ride

:25:34.:25:38.

as he comes into the final lap. He is tying up as all riders do on

:25:38.:25:42.

the final lap. He has got to dig deep and keep it going. Up towards

:25:42.:25:46.

the line to try and set the fastest time. It will be close. Is it close

:25:46.:25:52.

enough? Kian Emadi from Great Britain still

:25:52.:25:55.

leads. Well, that is so close, isn't it?

:25:55.:26:00.

That is close and that's how this competition is normally played out.

:26:00.:26:03.

We were shown some big gaps at start of the race, but as the

:26:03.:26:09.

favourites come in, it gets closer and closer and everybody aspect,

:26:09.:26:19.

the lunge at start, the lunge at the end make all the difference.

:26:19.:26:23.

Well, Eric Engler was able to get on top of the gear quickly. The

:26:23.:26:28.

size of the gear not as big as some of the other riders we have seen so

:26:28.:26:31.

far in this competition. I feel it is the last part of the

:26:31.:26:36.

race where you start to pay for that extra muscle bulk. You get off

:26:36.:26:42.

the mark quickly, but there is a price to be paid and there is an

:26:42.:26:45.

aerodynamic penalty because the rider is larger. It is not a pure

:26:45.:26:48.

sprint, is it? It is partly a balancing act.

:26:48.:26:52.

It is very much so. They find it very difficult to regulate their

:26:53.:26:58.

own effort because you think how hard they can, if they were doing a

:26:58.:27:01.

half lap effort, the difference between that and a kilometre, they

:27:01.:27:05.

have to reign it in slightly. It is almost an art form really to

:27:05.:27:13.

measure that kind of power over a minute. As more and more riders

:27:13.:27:21.

head back into the clubhouse as it were, the competition rose ever

:27:21.:27:24.

more intense. Anywhere heading towards the really strong riders at

:27:24.:27:31.

the back end of the field. And Kian Emadi heading closer and closer to

:27:31.:27:40.

a podium spot here. Whatever times are set by the rest of the riders,

:27:40.:27:48.

he has just himself justice and he performed very, very well. This is

:27:48.:27:56.

Hugo Haak from the heather lands. He is the -- Netherlands. He is the

:27:56.:28:02.

silver medallist in this event. He is another young rider at 21. A

:28:02.:28:07.

hole raft of riders that -- whole raft of riders that we are going to

:28:07.:28:11.

be seeing coming to the forein the European Championships.

:28:11.:28:17.

Just in case you weren't aware, there is the 50 second countdown on

:28:17.:28:27.
:28:27.:28:28.

all the riders before they set off from the starter's gate.

:28:28.:28:35.

And Haak one of two Dutch riders to come. He is a big guy, isn't he? He

:28:36.:28:45.
:28:46.:28:47.

has got some long leavers there. Five seconds.

:28:47.:28:53.

A little bit of support in the crowd for Hugo Haak.

:28:53.:28:56.

He is really using the leavers to get that go. I think we are going

:28:56.:29:02.

to see a good start here. Driving it home over that first three-

:29:02.:29:05.

quarters of a lap as he comes back into the home straight to cross the

:29:05.:29:13.

line. With the fastest time. Fully committed. He is going really,

:29:13.:29:18.

really quickly now, the Dutch rider. A quick opening lap there. Ke build

:29:18.:29:25.

on this? -- can he build on this? Yes, he can. He is doing well.

:29:25.:29:33.

There are conflicting information coming from the two fasting gadgets.

:29:33.:29:38.

One saying he is the fastest and the other saying he is not.

:29:38.:29:42.

He has eased back into third place. Yet again, it will be about the

:29:42.:29:46.

last half a lap. At the moment, I don't think he is doing too badly.

:29:46.:29:52.

Well up towards the line comes Haak and he is four tenths plus of a

:29:52.:29:58.

second outside. It is good enough for third fastest so far, but still

:29:58.:30:04.

Kian Emadi leads the way here in the men's kilometre. He is going

:30:04.:30:07.

into the final lap. He is in third position. He just managed to hang

:30:07.:30:14.

on to that. With Kian Emadi winning at the moment, it is important to

:30:14.:30:24.

note that the current state of British success in cycling started

:30:24.:30:30.

with Jason winning in this event. It was a gold run, wasn't it?

:30:30.:30:36.

was the proving ground. We got Lottery funding coming in at the

:30:36.:30:42.

end of my own career. Peter Keane set up a performance programme.

:30:42.:30:46.

They implemented a plan in Sydney and the gold medal was a big deal

:30:46.:30:50.

for the British team and it showed that they could go out there, put a

:30:50.:30:54.

plan together and win medals and they got more funding and it went

:30:54.:30:56.

from there. He didn't go into that Olympic

:30:56.:31:01.

Games as the favourite, for that event, did he? He went into it with

:31:01.:31:05.

people feeling and I think himself feeling he a chance of a medal, but

:31:05.:31:15.
:31:15.:31:34.

he was not favoured to win the in Sydney in 2000. This is the

:31:34.:31:37.

European team sprint gold medallist and a former German kilometre

:31:37.:31:45.

champion. Won the World Cup in Kazakhstan a couple of years back,

:31:45.:31:51.

so has some international experience. An old man in this

:31:51.:31:57.

field at 22. We have to work out the average age, but I would say it

:31:57.:32:07.
:32:07.:32:16.

is not far off 23, the average age. Almost ready to go. Including this

:32:16.:32:24.

man, 5 that riders to go. Kian Emadi-Coffin is getting closer to

:32:24.:32:34.
:32:34.:32:37.

finishing potentially on the podium in his first major championships.

:32:37.:32:45.

This time is fast. 18.3 seems to be the mark at the moment. You need to

:32:45.:32:50.

be there or thereabouts if you want to be in with a shout. He is only

:32:50.:32:55.

4th, and he is holding that position at the moment. Still in

:32:55.:33:05.
:33:05.:33:06.

touch, though. He takes the bell and goodness me, it is close.

:33:06.:33:14.

less than a 10th of a second in it. It is very close now. Can he set

:33:14.:33:22.

the fastest time? What has he got left in the tank? That is the new

:33:22.:33:30.

fastest time. He saved the best until last. We could see visibly he

:33:30.:33:35.

was not quite dying that much over the last half a lap and that seems

:33:35.:33:41.

to be where this event is going to play out tonight. They are all in

:33:41.:33:46.

touch in less than a 10th of a second between them. It is all in

:33:46.:33:52.

that last little bit. He was solid all the way through that ride from

:33:52.:33:56.

the moment he left the starting gate. The Germans and the British

:33:56.:34:03.

spend a lot of time on technique. We can expect a stylish start from

:34:03.:34:10.

any one of them. It was controlled power. Very much. We can see that

:34:10.:34:16.

expression on his face. We are not seeing some of the premises we see

:34:16.:34:26.
:34:26.:34:49.

from some of the riders, because it in past two championships. He's

:34:49.:34:53.

settled for a silver medal in the French a national championships in

:34:53.:34:59.

the sprint, but he is the new French Keirin champion. We can

:34:59.:35:03.

expect a good technical right because the French, the Germans and

:35:03.:35:09.

the British run a very good school of cycling. They pass that

:35:09.:35:16.

knowledge from rider to rider. had a bit of a problem. He has

:35:16.:35:22.

chosen to continue, but he could have had a restart. The back wheel

:35:22.:35:29.

jumped somehow and that will cost him. The first of two revolutions

:35:29.:35:34.

of the pedals were less than clean. He has got an enormous amount of

:35:34.:35:41.

ground to make up. I think he made a big mistake. That was what they

:35:41.:35:50.

would classify as a mishap. I am sure they would have given him a ms

:35:50.:35:57.

and another start. He is not going to trouble the top of the

:35:57.:36:05.

leaderboard. It is over his second. 6th in the last two world

:36:05.:36:09.

championships, but I do not think he will fare terribly well in this

:36:09.:36:19.
:36:19.:36:21.

one. 1.5 seconds down, but he lost so much time in the first few

:36:21.:36:29.

metres. You have got to lose motivator and from that as well. I

:36:29.:36:38.

am very surprised he did not go for a restart. -- motivation. An event

:36:38.:36:48.
:36:48.:36:49.

like this is decided by hundredths of a second. Maybe there were some

:36:49.:36:56.

drops of sweat on the track, but he has chosen to keep going. What a

:36:56.:37:01.

messy start and effectively his medal chances were all over in the

:37:01.:37:06.

first two or three revolutions of the pedals. I am sure they would

:37:06.:37:14.

have given him a restart. That is why they call it a mishap. It is

:37:14.:37:19.

usually a crash or a mechanical problem, but clearly that was

:37:19.:37:26.

beyond his control. The French coach is standing at the side of

:37:26.:37:31.

the track with his hands on his hips. He will be disappointed with

:37:31.:37:39.

his own rider because he had the power to stop the race. Chris Hoy

:37:39.:37:49.
:37:49.:37:49.

was raising in this event. This is the Keirin bronze medallist at the

:37:49.:37:55.

London Olympics. He has won this particular event twice before in a

:37:56.:38:01.

world championships, in 2008 and 2010. He also won the Keirin title

:38:01.:38:08.

a few years back. He is 31 and a real threat to win this here.

:38:08.:38:13.

has probably got thousands and thousands of pounds worth of

:38:13.:38:19.

aerodynamic equipment and he has not bothered to shave! It is of the

:38:19.:38:28.

small details. This is likely to be one of the highlights of this event.

:38:28.:38:33.

Look how low on the track he is. His body is still as his legs go

:38:33.:38:40.

round. It is beautifully done. that experience coming into play.

:38:40.:38:47.

He is the fastest so far. Look at him go, smooth power, being

:38:47.:38:52.

transmitted through the pedals down onto the track. Very quickly on top

:38:52.:38:58.

of that gear. He looks comfortable, he will be anything but, but he is

:38:58.:39:08.
:39:08.:39:08.

the fastest. He has the experience. Surely he has paced this ride well?

:39:08.:39:15.

But he lost a lot of time on the third lap. Having gone out of the

:39:15.:39:21.

tracks like a greyhound he is now really struggling. He is gasping

:39:21.:39:27.

for air. That really has fallen apart dramatically in the second

:39:27.:39:36.

half of the race. He started so well and look at -- looked

:39:36.:39:45.

absolutely great, but then the wheels fell off. That is a real

:39:45.:39:51.

surprise. It was almost like somebody put the handbrake on.

:39:51.:39:58.

Peter Blake out at the start. Very good technical starred as you might

:39:58.:40:08.
:40:08.:40:09.

expect. You would not expect that from a rider of his experience

:40:09.:40:15.

because he has been around so long. But if you have not got the legs on

:40:15.:40:22.

the day, there is not much you can do. One person he will be pleased

:40:22.:40:32.
:40:32.:40:49.

will be Kian Emadi-Coffin who is there. He has won two French and

:40:49.:40:56.

national titles. He has got a world title to his name, but it was in

:40:56.:41:02.

the team sprint as a junior. No senior world title. He rode the

:41:02.:41:10.

Mexico World Cup recently. His form is not bad. Has he got the form and

:41:10.:41:20.

the legs to carry him to a medal here? France is perennially one of

:41:20.:41:25.

the stronger nations in track cycling. Their biggest name is not

:41:25.:41:31.

here. I think he is still trying to find his head after the Olympic

:41:32.:41:40.

Games which he thought he would win. He was beaten by Jason Kenny.

:41:40.:41:45.

looking good on this first lap. That is a pretty swift time. It is

:41:45.:41:55.
:41:55.:41:56.

the fastest time. Can he keep it going? The only rider inside 18 and

:41:56.:42:02.

he looks very smooth. He is well on top of that gear and his line is

:42:02.:42:09.

almost perfect. It is like he is on a tramline. Fantastic riding so far

:42:09.:42:14.

and he comes up to the three- quarters mark. 1.1 seconds ahead of

:42:15.:42:21.

anybody else. He is absolutely flying. He looks so strong and he

:42:21.:42:26.

looks so smooth. He appears to be riding on a rail. He is the newly

:42:26.:42:36.
:42:36.:42:37.

Devils stop the men's kilo file is saving the best until last. Almost,

:42:37.:42:47.

because we have one rider to come. We were talking about these events

:42:47.:42:50.

sometimes been decided by a thousandth of a second and then

:42:50.:42:57.

somebody comes N 1.2 seconds clear. That is absolutely incredible. It

:42:57.:43:02.

was a beautiful ride. He gave himself such a buffer going into

:43:02.:43:08.

the final lap. What a fantastic ride from a cyclist who has been

:43:08.:43:13.

around for a number of years and has not been one of the very

:43:13.:43:19.

brightest lights in an extremely talented French squad. Often we see

:43:19.:43:23.

after the Olympics are the people who just missed out in selection

:43:23.:43:28.

and they keep that burning desire and train hard through the winter

:43:28.:43:33.

months and come here with a desperate need to succeed and they

:43:33.:43:39.

often come through in the post Olympic world to championships.

:43:39.:43:47.

That was a fantastic ride for Purves from France. Only one man

:43:47.:43:57.

can deny him the gold medal now. Richard Burton sent as a tweet and

:43:57.:44:07.
:44:07.:44:08.

he had a look at the speeds we were speculating on. It went from 66

:44:08.:44:18.
:44:18.:44:18.

kilometres an hour on the first lap down to 57 on the last lap. There

:44:18.:44:24.

is 10 kilometres difference such is the fatigue. There is no surprise

:44:24.:44:30.

there. This is the bronze medallist at the Olympic Games in the Keirin.

:44:30.:44:36.

He has just won three national titles on the track in New Zealand.

:44:36.:44:45.

Third in the world championships in this event a year ago. He is miles

:44:45.:44:53.

off the pace. In 11th position. will be watching this as well

:44:53.:44:58.

because Kian Emadi-Coffin is still in the bronze-medal position. This

:44:58.:45:08.
:45:08.:45:20.

Well, just over a second down, but that's because Purvis is faster

:45:20.:45:25.

that everybody else so far. This is going to go down to the wire. It is

:45:25.:45:35.
:45:35.:45:36.

a fast, fast finish. One minute exactly and 0.859 and that's good

:45:36.:45:46.
:45:46.:45:46.

enough. It is another step up the podium. Francois Pervis with a

:45:46.:45:56.

stning ride -- stunning ride wins the gold medal here. Great

:45:56.:46:00.

Britain's Kian Emadi-Coffin outside the medals. This is a competition

:46:00.:46:03.

full of surprises. I didn't think he could recover from a start like

:46:03.:46:09.

that. 11th place after the first lap. He came through from eighth to

:46:09.:46:14.

second with a lap to go and that's where he stayed. That was an

:46:14.:46:19.

imcredible comeback. It showed his closing speed or the speed on his

:46:19.:46:25.

third lap was amazing. A stunning ride there. On another

:46:25.:46:32.

day that would have won him the World Championship, but not when

:46:32.:46:35.

Francois Pervis the form and the determination he had. Francois

:46:35.:46:42.

Pervis is the new world champion for the men's kilometre time trial.

:46:42.:46:48.

An excellent ride by 20-year-old, Kian Emadi-Coffin, he was fourth in

:46:48.:46:58.
:46:58.:46:59.

his first ever event in the World Kian Emadi-Coffin just missed out..

:46:59.:47:02.

It is a horrible place just waiting to see what the other riders would

:47:02.:47:06.

do. He did a fantastic job. There do. He did a fantastic job. There

:47:07.:47:14.

is a world-class field there. Mulleders is very -- Mulder is very

:47:14.:47:18.

experienced. The key to this is pacing as we saw

:47:18.:47:22.

with Mulder, he got it wrong. A very mature performance from an

:47:22.:47:27.

athlete in his first World Championships? It was. He showed

:47:27.:47:32.

what he is capable at in the World Cup in Mexico. He did a very good

:47:32.:47:37.

ride there. That's at altitude so a little bit quicker than he went

:47:37.:47:41.

there. This is a significant chunk into his CV.

:47:41.:47:47.

It was an outstanding performance. It will put him in good stead for

:47:47.:47:53.

the team sprint. Confirmation of his form? Hopefully he can recover

:47:53.:47:59.

well interest this. He has three days until he is in the team sprint.

:47:59.:48:01.

Definitely a prospect for the future.

:48:01.:48:07.

It was an outstanding performance. The important thing, pacing and he

:48:07.:48:13.

got it just right. He did. This isn't an event they train a lot for.

:48:13.:48:17.

It is an additional event and they will ride it off the back of the

:48:17.:48:20.

team sprint training rather than putting a lot of emphasis.

:48:20.:48:27.

Now, the women's individual pursuit. Sarah Hammer of the USA looked like

:48:27.:48:37.

on the track is the women's individual pursuit. It is the race

:48:37.:48:47.
:48:47.:48:47.

for bronze between Edmondson from Australia and Laura Brown from

:48:47.:48:57.
:48:57.:48:59.

Canada. Edmondson won a bronze in London.

:48:59.:49:03.

She is in great form. Three golds in the national championships in

:49:03.:49:06.

Australia in year and Laura Brown from Canada on the other side of

:49:07.:49:11.

the track. She is She is 26 years of age. A former national champion

:49:11.:49:17.

in the team sprin and the team sprint and a former Gold Medallist

:49:17.:49:27.
:49:27.:49:31.

this race. He had Edmondson on paper should have it. Sometimes you

:49:31.:49:35.

get a rider who qualifies well and can't produce a second ride a few

:49:35.:49:39.

hours later, but also for Brown, when you have got nothing to lose,

:49:39.:49:43.

you can pull out extraordinary performances so let's see if it

:49:43.:49:49.

goes to schedule. 12 laps of the track and they are

:49:49.:49:59.
:49:59.:50:06.

Fin I shalling the first -- Technically a good start, but Brown

:50:06.:50:12.

is starting to hold her own now. She lost a little bit more, but 1.4

:50:12.:50:16.

seconds. That's already quite a sizable chunk. She is not losing

:50:16.:50:19.

anywhere near as fast, but she is losing time to the Australian.

:50:19.:50:24.

Well, nine laps to go here in this women's bronze medal race in the

:50:24.:50:29.

individual pursuit and a second- and-a-half. So Brown needs to hold

:50:29.:50:35.

her own and then try to make some in-roads. But against a rider as

:50:35.:50:45.
:50:45.:50:47.

talented as Annette Edmondson, that might take some doing.

:50:47.:50:53.

Slower this time around. So Brown is producing a similar performance

:50:53.:50:56.

as well. She is steadily losing ground.

:50:56.:51:03.

There is seven laps to go and the gap is going up. I can only see one

:51:03.:51:08.

winner. She comes from a very talented cycling family. The pair

:51:08.:51:12.

of them selected for London 2012, the first ever brother and sister

:51:12.:51:18.

pairing to be selected for the Olympic Games. The same Olympics in

:51:18.:51:23.

Australian cycling. Well, Edmondson has already got her

:51:23.:51:29.

opponent in sight and that makes a difference. I am wondering if she

:51:29.:51:34.

is going to go after the catch as they approach the last kilometre?

:51:34.:51:39.

We have five laps to go. The next time they go through the finishing

:51:39.:51:44.

line on either side of the track, it will be the final kill kilometre

:51:44.:51:49.

of the race. The gap is so big, there is no way that Brown will

:51:49.:51:53.

finish anywhere other than fourth. Fourth is an excellent ride for the

:51:53.:51:59.

Canadian. Her time was enough to edge out Caroline Ryan from Ireland.

:51:59.:52:04.

She was in a medal ride until the last pairing went off. She did her

:52:04.:52:12.

ride in 3.3826. Annette Edmondson seems untroubled here as she races

:52:12.:52:16.

towards the bronze medal. Well, she is well into this final kilometre

:52:16.:52:22.

and it would take a mishap to cause her a problem. She just needs to

:52:22.:52:25.

keep her opponent in sight. She is not going to achieve the catch

:52:26.:52:29.

which I thought before this race started that might abpossibility --

:52:29.:52:33.

be a possibility. But no, she is going to have to settle for the

:52:33.:52:39.

bronze medal. And she can see the Canadian rider in her sights or she

:52:39.:52:44.

will do. There you can see the gap. She will have a clear view of Laura

:52:44.:52:47.

Brown, the Canadian. Annette Edmondson taking the bell for

:52:47.:52:52.

Australia and Australia about to get on the the board with their

:52:52.:52:58.

first medal of these championships. It is It is a very talented team as

:52:58.:53:04.

it always is. An interesting mixture of current current current

:53:04.:53:09.

world champions and Annette Edmondson is one of of those bright,

:53:09.:53:13.

young riders for the future and she won the bronze medal here and it

:53:13.:53:18.

was a comfortable victory over Laura Brown from Canada. The time

:53:18.:53:23.

for Edmondson 3.36830. So slower than the qualifying ride, but she

:53:23.:53:28.

went as fast as she needed to go to get the medal. P-well, they have

:53:28.:53:37.

done a couple of rides in the last few hours. So it is understandable,

:53:37.:53:41.

really. She will form part of the team pursuit team.

:53:41.:53:47.

It is an interesting point when you think how good the British women's

:53:47.:53:57.

team, you have Laura Trott, and Jo Rowsell. When you think of the

:53:57.:54:01.

talent over the distance, is it surprising to you that we don't

:54:01.:54:04.

have anybody racing in this particular event? Well, our problem

:54:04.:54:09.

here, of course, is the scheduling of the events. They have got the

:54:09.:54:13.

team pursuit after this event and all of them want to make sure that

:54:13.:54:18.

they have a good chance of winning the gold medal in that team pursuit

:54:18.:54:21.

event and it is so important for them...... They have a qualifying

:54:22.:54:27.

tomorrow morning? Exactly. They are sacrificing that for the team

:54:27.:54:31.

pursuit and they are keen to hang on to the title as well, of course,

:54:31.:54:35.

because it is the last time it will be run over three kilometre before

:54:35.:54:38.

they move to four kilometres and four riders.

:54:38.:54:41.

It will be interesting to see the effect of that, actually, when it

:54:41.:54:46.

comes in whether a number of the other countries currently have the

:54:46.:54:53.

strength in depth. Well, I think it is going to cause a problem. The

:54:53.:54:56.

two big beneficiaries will be Australia and Great Britain. They

:54:56.:55:03.

have half a dozen riders who could fill the places, but for the USA we

:55:03.:55:06.

see Sarah Hammer lining up for the individual pursuit. Well, they have

:55:06.:55:12.

had to scrape around to find a good team and they did a good job, but

:55:12.:55:15.

they pulled riders from the sprint and other disciplines to make up

:55:15.:55:25.
:55:25.:55:26.

the team pursuit. Fourth last year in the individual

:55:26.:55:33.

pursuit. It will be silver at worst for her this time around.

:55:33.:55:37.

She raced in Scotland at the back end of November. We are inside the

:55:37.:55:42.

last 30 seconds before this womens final is underway, but what about

:55:42.:55:46.

Sarah Hammer? What about a rider. Four time individual pursuit

:55:46.:55:51.

champion. She is tenacious and the only representative of America at

:55:51.:55:54.

this World Championships. She is going to ride everything and you

:55:54.:55:57.

can bet your bottom dollar she will be competitive in everything as

:55:57.:56:03.

well. Perhaps not not over this first kilometre, because Cure is

:56:03.:56:06.

the fastest starter of the two. The difference between the pair of

:56:06.:56:10.

them in qualifying, 12 laps of the track by the way in this final,

:56:10.:56:18.

Hammer was the fastest by some distance actually, 3.30206 and Amy

:56:18.:56:22.

Cure 3.33.3. But Hammer looking to go for gold here because she had to

:56:22.:56:27.

settle for silver silver twice at London 2012 in the team pursuit and

:56:27.:56:30.

the ominium behind Laura Trott so it was a tussle between the pair of

:56:30.:56:35.

them. It went to the wire. But here now, Hammer will be going all out

:56:35.:56:42.

for the gold medal. That's Amy Cure from Australia, she is from

:56:42.:56:46.

Tasmania and now residing in Adelaide. Amy Cure made the fastest

:56:46.:56:49.

start. I wondered if she might reign it in

:56:50.:56:54.

because it cost her dearly the experience of Sarah Hammer just

:56:54.:56:57.

backing off and measuring her effort and she won out in the end.

:56:57.:57:02.

Cure was nearly a second faster in that opening kilometre which I

:57:02.:57:05.

suspect she is going to be again here and I think she is going to

:57:05.:57:09.

pay the same price again. Well, just over eight laps to go.

:57:09.:57:12.

They are coming up to the first kilometre mark. Is that the natural

:57:12.:57:18.

style of Amy Cure, Chris? Is she trying to put Hammer under pressure

:57:18.:57:23.

by making a fast start? Well, Hammer, she won't worry about her

:57:23.:57:27.

opposition until she gets into the final kilometre. She will She will

:57:27.:57:31.

do her own ride and measure her own effort because that's all you can

:57:31.:57:35.

do. You need to focus on your own effort in this event and already,

:57:35.:57:40.

she is bringing it down. Just 0.1 of a second between them now. This

:57:40.:57:44.

could be the beginning of the end for the Australian. Well, the race

:57:44.:57:49.

is on and it is going to be a case of how long Amy Cure can hang on

:57:49.:57:52.

there? She will have to dig in because the assault has started

:57:52.:57:57.

from the American. Sarah Hammer has turned this race on its head in the

:57:57.:58:02.

space of a lap-and-a-half. She has the measure of her owe pone. When

:58:02.:58:07.

you see -- her opponent. When you see somebody start off and die off,

:58:07.:58:12.

you know they have given everything. She is just eating up the distance.

:58:12.:58:15.

She has turned that advantage around now.

:58:15.:58:20.

Amy Cure, I imagine there is lots more to come from her. Sarah Hammer

:58:20.:58:27.

has been racing for a long time. It is an enormous gap. It is not a gap

:58:27.:58:32.

that Amy Cure has any chance of closing. I think we could see a

:58:32.:58:36.

catch here. Sarah Hammer has the opposition in her sights now in the

:58:36.:58:44.

matter of a few lap that is we have just been talking over, she has

:58:44.:58:47.

made in-roads into her opponent. Well, this is a pursuiting

:58:47.:58:52.

masterclass from Sarah Hammer. We would expect nothing less. It is

:58:52.:58:58.

all about Sarah Hammer now, Amy cap cure has done -- Amy Cure has done

:58:58.:59:05.

well to get the gold medal. I Simon, we could see a catch here.

:59:05.:59:10.

She is getting closer with every revolution of the pedals. She has

:59:10.:59:13.

the added incentive of seeing the other athlete in front of her and

:59:13.:59:19.

that gap is closing. Second by second here. The American takes the

:59:19.:59:23.

bell just over a lap to go for the Australian and it is not going to

:59:23.:59:28.

go the full distance here. might let her have it.

:59:28.:59:34.

She is going to enjoy this final lap. Maybe wave to the crowd. She

:59:34.:59:40.

does. Sarah Hammer takes the gun as the world champion for the fifth

:59:40.:59:44.

time in the women's individual pursuit and after the initial laps

:59:44.:59:49.

there with the fast start that we were expecting from Amy Cure, once

:59:49.:59:53.

Sarah Hammer got into her stride there was only going to be one

:59:53.:59:58.

winner of that event. She is one of the main figures in women's track

:59:58.:00:02.

cycling of recent years. She is a superb rider. She was almost lost

:00:02.:00:11.

to cycling in her career. She gave up and saw the limb the Olympics

:00:11.:00:17.

and thought, "Maybe I will take it up again.". She is the only

:00:17.:00:21.

American to take part in the championships. Plenty more events

:00:21.:00:27.

to come. It is about quality not quality.

:00:28.:00:32.

Sarah Hammer, great style as well as the speed. Really winning it up

:00:32.:00:38.

as the owe vent wore on. Untroubled by the fast, early start made by

:00:38.:00:43.

Amy Cure and there she is had the time to savour her victory and the

:00:43.:00:46.

celebrations will start now. It is gold for Sarah Hammer of the United

:00:46.:00:50.

States for the fifth time in her career. Silver for Australia, for

:00:50.:00:54.

Amy Cure and another Australian, Annette he had tonne son winning

:00:54.:00:58.

the bronze. -- Annette Edmondson winning the

:00:58.:01:08.
:01:08.:01:29.

women's individual pursuit. Sarah Hammer is a very worthy winner for

:01:29.:01:39.

the 5th time in her career. We saw Kian Emadi-Coffin go in the men's

:01:39.:01:49.
:01:49.:01:51.

kilo. He finished in 4th place and There were an anxious few moments,

:01:51.:01:55.

but you must be pleased with this first performance in a world

:01:55.:02:01.

championships? Definitely. I gave it my best and it would have been

:02:01.:02:08.

nice to get a medal, but it was more the performance. What were

:02:08.:02:16.

your thoughts over the last few minutes? You expect the guys at the

:02:16.:02:23.

end to go faster, so no real shock. There was talk about you stepping

:02:23.:02:27.

into the big shoes of Chris Hoy in the next couple of years ended that

:02:27.:02:32.

you are going to be riding as man three. How does that sit with you?

:02:32.:02:38.

I appreciate the comparison, but there is a long way to go. He is

:02:38.:02:43.

not just a rider, he is a role model and a pioneer of the sport.

:02:43.:02:48.

Give me a bit of time. What does your ride here today tell you about

:02:49.:02:55.

your form? There are good signs. The start was strong and the second

:02:55.:03:00.

lap was good in the kilo, which is good for the sprint. I will see how

:03:00.:03:05.

I can recover tonight and get into shape for tomorrow. You were right

:03:05.:03:12.

up there, world class. Thank you. We are going to start a swear box

:03:12.:03:18.

as to how many times you can stay two -- say to him, you are going to

:03:18.:03:24.

step into Chris Hoy's shoes. And we see a picture of Chris Hoy's shoes.

:03:24.:03:31.

He did really well. He had to do a job today and he was outstanding.

:03:31.:03:35.

You have to get that first ride out of the way and to have the kilo to

:03:36.:03:40.

do that where it is not an Olympic event and there is no pressure and

:03:40.:03:44.

nobody expects you to win, and it is good to get all the butterflies

:03:44.:03:50.

out. He will be in good shape for the team sprint. The women's team

:03:50.:03:55.

sprint has always been headline news with Victoria Pendle son, and

:03:55.:04:05.
:04:05.:04:08.

it is down now to Victoria Williamson and Becky James. It is

:04:08.:04:14.

hard to come in at such a high level, having only raced at world

:04:14.:04:19.

level at junior level and at under 23, but it will be quite a big

:04:19.:04:27.

shock to come in at such a high level. It is a great opportunity

:04:27.:04:33.

for us. I have got no expectations in terms of outcome, I am just

:04:33.:04:36.

thinking about the process and my individual poor performance as part

:04:36.:04:41.

of the team. Obviously Becky is going in with higher expectations

:04:41.:04:46.

because she is more experienced and at a higher level than I am. As

:04:46.:04:51.

long as I do my best and hopefully get a personal best, I will be

:04:51.:04:55.

happy. It has been a good year and I have stayed healthy and injury-

:04:55.:04:59.

free and I have had a consistent block of training, so I am looking

:04:59.:05:04.

forward to it. The qualification took place a little earlier today.

:05:04.:05:14.
:05:14.:05:35.

for a medal ride later on in this evening session? Kaarle McCulloch

:05:35.:05:41.

is riding for Australia. British coach told me they were

:05:41.:05:45.

going to try something special for the changeover and we saw that

:05:45.:05:50.

Becky James went right up the track to come back down and was

:05:50.:05:55.

accelerating on to the wheel and that was a clever move. And it is

:05:55.:06:02.

the fastest time for Great Britain. Marginally quicker than Australia.

:06:03.:06:09.

Interesting tactics and a swift ride for the pairing. This is a

:06:09.:06:14.

heavyweight match up, all power out in the blocks. The first lap could

:06:14.:06:20.

be absolutely key. There is unlikely to be very much between

:06:20.:06:26.

these at two at all. It could go down to the blinking of an eye.

:06:26.:06:31.

is interesting to see how they are going to change over. The Chinese

:06:31.:06:37.

pair were very close, but we have not seen a flag go up. Who has got

:06:37.:06:47.
:06:47.:06:48.

the power and the legs to bring it home? It is Germany. These two will

:06:49.:06:58.
:06:59.:07:00.

contest gold and silver later on this evening. Becky and Vicky and

:07:00.:07:10.
:07:10.:07:15.

the bronze medal race. Will they be I think so. Jess Varnish has been

:07:15.:07:20.

struggling with an injury for a while, so I think they will be

:07:20.:07:26.

happy to be in the medals. A real state of flux in the women's team

:07:26.:07:30.

because Victoria Pendle son is gone. You have got Becky who is getting

:07:31.:07:34.

used to racing with Jess Varnish. Now you have got Vicky. It is not

:07:34.:07:42.

easy. It is difficult and we are struggling for numbers in women's

:07:42.:07:47.

sprinting in the GB set-up and we need more, his century. You can

:07:47.:07:50.

never have too many riders. It would be nice to have more to

:07:50.:07:56.

choose from at that level. But looking at Becky's times from her

:07:56.:08:00.

portion of the team sprint, she is in a phenomenal form and I am

:08:00.:08:06.

looking forward to seeing her in the individual event. They pair up

:08:06.:08:10.

again in the qualification. Do you learn much from these races, or are

:08:10.:08:16.

you just focusing on your own race? They tied -- tried a different

:08:16.:08:21.

tactic and you notice a Becky swung right up the track and before she

:08:21.:08:26.

started her part of the effort and that was to run into the slipstream

:08:26.:08:31.

of the Victoria before she gets out of the way. It effectively gives

:08:31.:08:39.

her more speed and it is easier to accelerate from. I suppose they

:08:39.:08:47.

will just refine that, or they may be warned by the connoisseur for

:08:47.:08:52.

doing that. Has this change in regulation been difficult for the

:08:52.:09:00.

athletes to get used to? We saw a disqualification in London. His is

:09:00.:09:06.

not difficult to get used to. It is such a narrow window in which to

:09:06.:09:10.

get out of the way if you are the rider in front. Basically you have

:09:10.:09:15.

to cross the line where you started before the rider behind you can

:09:15.:09:21.

overlap and you have got 50 metres to get out of the way. When you are

:09:21.:09:25.

doing 40 miles an hour, it is very difficult to judge that and is a

:09:25.:09:31.

small window to get out of the way. The men's team pursuit beach as the

:09:31.:09:41.
:09:41.:09:48.

double Olympic champion Ed Clancy. -- features. It is a new world

:09:48.:09:55.

record and Great Britain have won the gold medal. London was quite an

:09:55.:10:02.

exciting thing and it will be pretty low key compared to London.

:10:02.:10:08.

It is just an opportunity for us to enjoy racing and competing. We have

:10:08.:10:13.

not got a lot to lose and if things go well and we win the world's

:10:13.:10:23.

championship, great, but we have not got a lot to lose. Glasgow

:10:23.:10:28.

started well in terms of the team sprint project. The whole idea was

:10:28.:10:34.

I could go into Rio looking at the team sprint and team pursuit.

:10:34.:10:39.

Sounds quite easy to add a bit too you start and concentrates

:10:39.:10:44.

specifically on that and mould yourself into a team sprinter and

:10:44.:10:49.

keep the team pursuit, but it is not that easy a. I have still got

:10:49.:10:55.

to make any progress and it is quite is heartening. I guess they

:10:55.:11:01.

named the team sprint not so long ago and I was not part of it, so I

:11:01.:11:06.

turned to the pursuit and thought, I will give that a go. I started

:11:06.:11:10.

riding bikes because I enjoyed riding bikes and I enjoyed racing

:11:10.:11:16.

and it is still the same today. There are people in our team who

:11:16.:11:23.

have won so much more than me. But I have to take advantage of these

:11:23.:11:27.

opportunities. At the moment we are all right, but you never know what

:11:27.:11:33.

the situation will be in four years time going to Rio. We could end up

:11:33.:11:37.

fighting for our places. At the moment it is great that there are

:11:37.:11:40.

all these young kids coming into the team, but we do not want them

:11:40.:11:47.

to get too good! The men's team pursuit qualified comfortably. They

:11:47.:11:51.

were in second place behind the Australians and they will face off

:11:51.:11:56.

against their normal rivals in this event. Slightly ragged towards the

:11:56.:12:06.
:12:06.:12:07.

end. It is interesting about Ed Clancy and we are back in Glasgow

:12:07.:12:14.

and he was looking to do the team sprint. But he was pushed back

:12:14.:12:19.

towards the insurance side with the team pursuit. I do not think he has

:12:19.:12:23.

ruled himself out of the team sprint. He has only been doing it

:12:23.:12:28.

since the Olympics, so it is not a long time to make that a turnaround.

:12:28.:12:32.

Now that he has realised it is not going to be a simple process or an

:12:32.:12:39.

overnight thing, he is going to go away and work on it, especially in

:12:39.:12:47.

terms of torque production of the line. It is about staying with

:12:47.:12:52.

Fridays and it is completely different. Tomorrow Victoria

:12:52.:12:57.

Pendleton will be my guest. We are finishing on BBC Two, but we will

:12:57.:13:05.

be on the red button for the finals. The women's team sprint is the

:13:05.:13:12.

bronze medal race for Great Britain. The Australians were just quicker

:13:12.:13:17.

in qualification for the men's team pursuit. Tomorrow we have more

:13:17.:13:23.
