The man in charge of Jersey's biggest ever police investigation

says he was told that money was no object. Lenny Harper led the

initial investigation into historic Abbey's on the island. He was

questioned today by politicians about a damning report about police

spending -- historic abuse on the island.

At the time of the Haut de la Garenne investigation and an

intense media spotlight, the then Chief Minister told investigators

it would be given all the resources they needed. But a report at the

end of the investigation found the police had spent more than �1

million on entertainment, meals and travel including stays at top

hotels and expensive restaurants. Mr Harper told that they wanted an

investigation from day one but was told by senior civil servants that

the cost was irrelevant. And he said that if the auditors had asked

him, he would have been able to justify the �7.5 million price tag

of the investigation. To date, he said that he was flying

blind in that not only did they have a budget but we were being

told that cost was irrelevant. He went on. Another politician leading

the review wants to hear all sides of the story. By believe there are

two sites to the story. Over the next few weeks, the panel will be

speaking to the accountants and the Home Affairs Minister and expect to

finish the report in a few months and bring the speculation about how

to pull out of the race, she has damaged her foot and has been taken

off to hospital to find out what exactly is wrong with it. But she

is very disappointed, obviously. She has been training for this all

year. She is devastated, really. While Katie and her family made

their way to hospital, Guernsey favourite secures gold in the men's

half-marathon. The first one for the island. Guernsey were also

awarded team gold but they were not the only tell islanders standing on

the podium. Katie hobbled her way back to receive a team of silver.

said I was not able to complete because of the injury. And so I was

called up. It has been a day of highs and lows for the athletes but

it ended with a muddle and a smile. Winning badminton at this level

ignited by the Guernsey's bailiff. It is ridiculous that we should

spend such a lot of time with a knitted doll but anyway! He keeps

us all together. He is always keeping a close eye on the progress

of his players and has already cheered them on to a team gold. He

has got his own Facebook Fan Page and some feel he is due for another
