Good evening and welcome. Tonight we have the latest on the multiple

stabbings in St Helier as the police start piecing together why

, were murdered. We have got six victims who met their deaths there

yesterday afternoon and me and my staff are working hard to establish

the facts bulls star up plus a community in shock as friends and

neighbours tried to come to terms with the horror. It is really sad

what has happened. It has never happened in Jersey before. It is

especially sad because it is Polish Police in Jersey are still trying

to piece together how six people, three of them children, were killed

in a knife attack in St Helier yesterday. Police were called to a

flat in Victoria Crescent just after 3 o'clock in the afternoon. A

30-year-old man has been arrested and is in hospital after undergoing

surgery. Police confirmed two families were involved. Edwards

told is that the scene. What is the latest? There is still shock and

disbelief in this neighbourhood as residents and the police come to

terms with what happened. Victoria presence in Upper Midvale Road in

St Helier remain sealed off tonight as the police and local strike to

piece together yesterday's shocking events. The it should have been

acquired, summer's Sunday afternoon, but just after 3 o'clock the

relative calm and tranquillity of this leafy part of St Helier was

playful scream. They were really screaming. Today the police

described the traumatic scene emergency services came face-to-

face with. Paramedics and police officers as they arrived treated

some of victims outside Victoria Crescent on the present itself, and

the other victims were found inside the premises. There were initially

two who were found outside and four inside. As the police try to piece

together what happened, today they confirmed that one of the families

involved was of Polish origin. Indications are that one of the

families was Polish. I am not in a position to elaborate further on

the relationships between either the suspect or the victims.

Hopefully, you understand, it is important that we make contacts

with the broader family. I do not want them hearing about this, with

the greatest respect, through the media. I wanted to hear about it

from my staff will start those living in this neighbourhood say

they have been deeply affected by the events that have unfolded on

away flowers were laid to remember those who lost their lives here so

tragically. Do we know any more about the

victims this evening? Yes, details have been emerging throughout the

day about the six people who were killed yesterday afternoon. The six

victims were from two different families. The first family, her

mother and her two young children and the women's father are believed

to be Polish citizens will stop the second, a mother and daughter, are

mixed Jersey and Polish citizens. None of the names have been

released. The police still have somebody in custody? Yes, we

understand the man under police guard in Jersey General Hospital is

to be questioned over the murder of his two children, wife and father-

in-law, along with a family friend and her daughter. A 30-year-old man

has been arrested, but the police have not yet been able to question

him. As the police continue their investigation, the community is

trying to deal with what has happened on the streets of St

Helier. Shock and shame are two emissions that are emerging among

many people. Churches have been held in special services today to

help islanders cope with the trauma of the event.

As Jersey's community tries to come to terms with what has happened,

the island's gentle way of life feels tense, emotions are raw, and

today people look on searching for answers, but all there is his death,

shock and disbelief. It is really sad what has happened. It has never

happened in Jersey before. It is especially sad because it is Polish

people and children. And the youngest one was two years old.

This is really unacceptable. It is just a terrible tragedy. There is a

book of condolence at the town hall which some hope will help numb the

pain. The stabbings are being reported around the world and for

the Polish community the brittle headlines have prompted an

outpouring of grief and anger. On Polish websites Polish people in St

Helier are talking about the shame it is bringing their community,

about the anger that so many people have been killed, and that is why

Jersey's chief of police call for calm today. Such an incident will

raise tensions locally and I appeal to everyone to remain calm and

dignified and allow my officers to continue with what is a complex,

demanding and very difficult investigation. In the Polish

delicatessens, discussion turns to discuss as they contemplate the

horrific events that took place. are in shock about what happened.

In Jersey something like this has never happened. It is a shame it

for the Polish people. I am in shock as well. I do not know what

he is doing. The Polish community is terrified and ashamed, a shames

interestingly because they were Polish, because that person was

Polish, and because there are about 5000 Polish people in Joseph. We

want to be accepted. How can a winded community begin to hear

itself? Is it too early? I am sure they will fill this personally and

days ahead, which will continue to be difficult, but also we should

let the police handled this matter. The horror of six deaths on this

holiday island is still sinking in and for many here it will be

something they will never forget. These events have shocked everybody

and the fact three children were killed has added to the sense of

horror, but for friends, neighbours and those first on the scene it

must have been a particularly difficult time. Earlier, Boyd

Bennie, the director of Jersey's Samaritans came into the studio,

and I asked him how the paramedics and police could have been affected.

It must have been very distressing and sometimes people who have been

in very distressing situations like that have flashbacks occurring

afterwards that may disturb their pattern of sleep. That is why it is

very important to be able to talk to someone. The Samaritans are

always there on the end of the phone. We have had reports from

neighbours who heard the children screaming. What would you say to

them? They must have a great sense of helplessness I suppose.

helplessness sometimes makes people very anxious. They feel they should

have done something, could have done something, or perhaps they

feel worried about their own safety. Again it is very important to be

able to talk to someone and offload some of that stress and anxiety,

which is what the Samaritans do a. His is something that happens

immediately, or does it take a while for the shop and the horror

to sink him? It can take a little while. It can take days, maybe even

longer. Although there will be help, a lot of agencies, immediately

after the event, those made tend to disappear after a while and that is

when it is important to know there is still someone who people can

talk to and the Samaritans are always there. Boyd Bennie from the

Samaritans. Turning to today's avenues and a Guernsey man is

recovering in hospital after being involved in a crash at the

weekend's sand racing. This fitted captured the moment that NIgel

Ozanne's car spun out of control and turned over on Saturday

afternoon. He is not thought to be in a serious condition. Organisers

Residents near Guernsey's airport have the opportunity to learn more

The public have less than a fortnight to have their say.

The RNLI is urging people in Jersey not to use distress flares unless

there is a real emergency. Lifeboat crews were called on Saturday night

after flares were seen on the north coast. Nothing was found following

an extensive search. Now, the There is some unsettled and wet

weather in the forecast for the week ahead. It does not mean it

will rain all the time. We have had high pressure today, but to the

west this low-pressure is moving in. Overnight tonight we will see some

rain arriving. Tomorrow it will bring in some moist air and some

drizzle throughout the day. By Wednesday there is a bit of

uncertainty over what this weather front is going to do. It still

looks fairly cloudy with a risk of some rain fall in the middle of the

week. Tonight is as much milder, but with a lot of cloud around and

outbreaks of rain. Fairly light winds from the south-west by the

end of the night. Pretty mild. A grey and a damp start to the date

tomorrow. The main area of rain moves away fairly quickly. Try for

most of us in the afternoon. There will be a few spots of drizzle. Out

at sea the winds are from the south-west. The times of high

word of the rising numbers of dead. The police told us that Jersey is

one of the safest places in the Western world, but that is little

comfort for friends and family who are coming to terms with their

losses, especially when so many of the victims were young. Murder in

the Channel Islands is rare. There has not been a murder in Jersey for

seven years, so to get six in one afternoon is beyond belief. There
