Also tonight, Jersey has a new Chief Minister. Ian Gorst tells us | :00:27. | :00:30.
how he'll lead the Island. I want to continue to serve. I want to | :00:30. | :00:33.
continue to include not only every State member, but also every member | :00:33. | :00:35.
of the community. How an Alderney woman survived a | :00:35. | :00:45.
:00:45. | :00:50. | ||
plane crash but couldn't save her A Jerseyman has been sentenced to | :00:50. | :00:53.
seven years in prison for making over 600 indecent images of | :00:53. | :00:58.
children. Lee Albert De Mouilpied had also been found guilty of | :00:58. | :01:03.
procuring acts of gross indecency and indecently assaulting a child. | :01:03. | :01:13.
:01:13. | :01:14. | ||
This is Lee Albert De Mouilpied, 35-year-old Injuriesy man. For five | :01:14. | :01:21.
years he sexually abuse add child and on one occasion he filmed it. | :01:21. | :01:24.
Over 600 indecent images were found on his computer. | :01:24. | :01:30.
This is the conclusion of an investigation starting in February | :01:30. | :01:34.
2010. On this occasion, the victim came forward and I commend the | :01:34. | :01:37.
victim for coming forward and explaining to the police what | :01:37. | :01:40.
happened. The judge described Lee Albert De | :01:40. | :01:43.
Mouilpied's crimes as unnecessary and cruel. He said the not guilty | :01:44. | :01:47.
plea despite video evidence of the assault required the victim to sit | :01:47. | :01:50.
around in a building to see whether he would be cross-examined. He said, | :01:50. | :01:55.
"I was able to watch that room as a trial judge and to watch the victim | :01:55. | :01:59.
and to see the stress and anguish he was put through. | :01:59. | :02:03.
". Lee Albert De Mouilpied has been sentenced to five years for | :02:03. | :02:07.
indecent assault and two years for making indecent images of children. | :02:07. | :02:12.
He will serve those terms one after the other. When the sentence was | :02:12. | :02:18.
read out, he showed no emotion. His defence team say they are not sure | :02:18. | :02:25.
Jersey's new Chief Minister is Ian Gorst. The newly elected Senator | :02:25. | :02:27.
beat the one other candidate, former Bailiff, Senator Philip | :02:27. | :02:37.
:02:37. | :02:38. | ||
Bailhache by just three votes. Newly elected senators, deputies | :02:38. | :02:42.
and constable took their seats in the in the State's chamber today | :02:42. | :02:45.
and the first thing on the agen darks one of the most important | :02:45. | :02:48.
issues of all. After drawing lots Senator Ian | :02:49. | :02:56.
Gorst made his quest first. I have immense pride in this island. | :02:56. | :03:01.
For me, politics is about public service in the interest of all | :03:01. | :03:09.
islanders. Then former bailiff, Sir Philip | :03:09. | :03:11.
Bailhache. I will offer members leadership | :03:11. | :03:15.
from the fronted. Whether members members follow, will be a matter | :03:15. | :03:19.
for them. It was then time for us to turn the | :03:19. | :03:24.
cameras off while voting took place. As both men sat patiently next to | :03:24. | :03:28.
each other, the result was read out by the bailiff. | :03:28. | :03:38.
:03:38. | :03:40. | ||
The votes cast in the ballot were as follows. Senator Bailhache 24 | :03:40. | :03:50.
votes. Senator Gorst, 27 votes. Friends and supporters came to | :03:50. | :03:53.
applaud Jersey's new minister. I want to continue to serve. I want | :03:53. | :03:59.
to continue to include, not only every State member, but also every | :04:00. | :04:04.
member of the community so they feel they have a future here and a | :04:04. | :04:09.
brighter future than perhaps they feel at this moment in time. | :04:09. | :04:14.
Both candidates thanked each other for their support. The work for | :04:14. | :04:17.
senator Ian Gorst begins tonight because on Thursday, he will be | :04:17. | :04:22.
back here with other members to decide who is going to be on his | :04:22. | :04:32.
:04:32. | :04:42. | ||
Senator Terry Le Sueur unveiled Jersey Airport's ducks sculpture in | :04:42. | :04:45.
its new home. Air crash investigators are trying | :04:45. | :04:48.
to establish what caused a light aircraft to ditch into the sea on | :04:48. | :04:57.
Saturday. The search for 79-year- old Ian Dickinson from Alderney has | :04:57. | :05:00.
been called off after the aircraft he was flying came down 25 miles | :05:00. | :05:07.
north-west of Guernsey. His wife, who is 78, survive the crash. Mike | :05:07. | :05:14.
Wilkins reports. The couple were heading to Alderney. | :05:14. | :05:20.
They never made it. Let's take a look at what really happened. Ian | :05:20. | :05:25.
and Ann-Marie Dickinson took off from this aircraft in Hampshire at | :05:25. | :05:31.
2.45pm on Saturday afternoon. Guernsey's air traffic control for | :05:31. | :05:36.
monitoring the plane. Rescue teams from France and the Channel Islands | :05:36. | :05:39.
raced to where the plane was last seen, close to one of the shipping | :05:39. | :05:49.
:05:49. | :05:52. | ||
lanes, 5 miles north-west of Guernsey. Fortunately a Russian | :05:52. | :05:55.
merchant ship was in the area and heard the mayday call. They had a | :05:55. | :05:57.
launch vessel which went to rescue Mrs Dickinson who was found | :05:57. | :05:59.
floating in a dinghy. At 5pm a French helicopter winched her from | :05:59. | :06:02.
the vessel and flew her to hospital. The passengers on the aeroplane was | :06:02. | :06:06.
extremely lucky that the aeroplane ditched near a merchant ship that | :06:06. | :06:12.
had the capability of assisting. Mrs Dickinson told her rescuers she | :06:12. | :06:15.
tried to save her husband, once the plane ditched, but was unable to | :06:15. | :06:18.
and had to get out of the aircraft which sank very quickly. | :06:18. | :06:28.
:06:28. | :06:29. | ||
They had been living in Alderney for over 20 years. | :06:29. | :06:31.
Obviously totally unexpected and they were a couple that were | :06:31. | :06:41.
:06:41. | :06:41. | ||
involved in many things on the island, especially the church where | :06:41. | :06:43.
they were both very regular attendees and stalwart members of | :06:44. | :06:45.
that community. Air accident investigators told the | :06:45. | :06:48.
BBC it could be months before they know why this aircraft was so far | :06:48. | :06:52.
off course and what caused it to crash. And with the plane at the | :06:52. | :06:56.
bottom of the channel, Mrs Dickinson is probably the only one | :06:56. | :07:06.
:07:06. | :07:23. | ||
Thomas Greechan beat all comers from all over the world to claim | :07:23. | :07:29.
the world bowls champion. Earlier he popped into the studio. | :07:29. | :07:36.
I got a gold metal there. Very nice. A cup that says world | :07:36. | :07:41.
Champion of Champions. That's a grand title? It is. How do you get | :07:41. | :07:45.
there? You have to win your national singles title. | :07:45. | :07:53.
From here I can see an Australian and a New Zealand name. Are you Are | :07:54. | :07:57.
you first jersey man? Yes. When it came to be announced | :07:57. | :08:01.
formally and you got got your prize, there was a hiccup, tell us about | :08:01. | :08:06.
that? When the National Anthem played, the flag went up side down | :08:06. | :08:12.
so we had to listen to the National Anthem again and put the flag right. | :08:12. | :08:17.
It was twice the joy. Some success for Guernsey as well. | :08:18. | :08:22.
What is the atmosphere like amongst the Jersey and Guernsey teams out | :08:22. | :08:28.
there. There is a little bit of rivalry. You are away from the | :08:29. | :08:36.
Jersey Guernsey sort of stuff. People imagine bowls to be a | :08:36. | :08:39.
leisurely hobby. I imagine at the top it must be competitive and | :08:39. | :08:43.
require a lot of training. Tell us about that. It is very competitive, | :08:43. | :08:48.
but the training, I haven't played bowls since the finals at the end | :08:48. | :08:51.
of August and we are now into November, so I haven't done a lot | :08:51. | :08:54.
of bowls lately. That makes this even more | :08:54. | :08:57.
incredible. Thank you very much. Well done. | :08:57. | :09:02.
Thank you. Time for the weather now. Here is | :09:02. | :09:07.
Good evening. The dry weather continues across | :09:07. | :09:10.
the Channel Islands. There will be more in the way of cloud tomorrow. | :09:10. | :09:13.
But we should have another fine start to the day and a little bit | :09:13. | :09:18.
cooler overnight. Overnight temperatures getting into into | :09:18. | :09:22.
single figures. Not Not much change in the set-up, a couple of areas of | :09:22. | :09:26.
low pressure. They will move closer through the day tomorrow, but not | :09:26. | :09:30.
making much progress, by Wednesday they come closerment perhaps | :09:30. | :09:34.
bringing more in the way of cloud, but for much of the day on | :09:34. | :09:38.
Wednesday, it is a dry store yip. For the first-half of this week, no | :09:38. | :09:41.
chance of any rain. This evening and tonne, a lot of clear sky | :09:41. | :09:45.
around. As I mentioned, the temperatures will fall into single | :09:45. | :09:50.
figures so a colder night than we have seen recently, down to 8 or 9 | :09:50. | :09:53.
Celsius. Tomorrow morning, a fine, chilly start. It will warm up | :09:53. | :09:58.
through the day, but also more cloud coming in. The cloud | :09:58. | :10:01.
approaching from the south will cloud things over into the | :10:01. | :10:05.
afternoon. 14 Celsius the maximum temperature. A similar wind | :10:05. | :10:15.
:10:15. | :10:47. | ||
direction, it is a moderate south- On Wednesday evening, there will be | :10:47. | :10:51.
a few light showers. Colder through Thursday and Friday, but a lot of | :10:51. | :10:55.
bright, dry weather around and as we move towards the end of the week, | :10:55. | :11:05.
:11:05. | :11:06. | ||
temperatures getting back down to I'm joined by a special friend in | :11:06. | :11:11.
