Good evening and welcome to the BBC in the Channel Islands. The top

stories: Another all time high for those out of work in Jersey - we

ask the Chief Minister what he's going to do to stop unemployment

rising. Plus, one of Guernsey's biggest

online retailers moves off island with the loss of nearly fifty jobs.

But a successful weekend for sport as Guernsey FC and our rugby teams

It's been a bad day for jobs in the Channel Islands. 46 jobs are to go

at HMV in Guernsey as the firm closes its internet shopping

business. In Jersey, the latest unemployment figures revealed that

120 more people were registered as out of work in February, that's

another record high. I'll be talking to HMV in a moment but

first here's Rachel Royce who's been looking into whether more jobs

in Jersey could be kept for locals. The rain runs a restaurants in King

able to take jobs in the economy. Most people looking for a job of

And in Guernsey dozens of jobs will be lost after the announcement

another mail order company is closing its warehouse. The music

retailer HMV is moving its operation back to the UK at the end

in April. Earlier today I spoke to their head of Press and PR for the

company and asked if this had been an inevitable decision.

Well, let me say we are very sorry we have made this decision, it is

not taken lightly. We have had a productive relationship with state

government in the Channel Islands and we have fantastic team. However,

the lease is due to expire soon and we know there's been a decision

recently about consignment relief which places pressure on online

operations to reduce costs and the only way we could do that was to

consolidate operations into one centre. What about the staff in

Guernsey? Will you help them? have a great team there, 46 people

full and part-time. We met with them on Friday and it have been

used as well as they could. I think they understood the motives behind

the decision but we know it is a shock and surprise when you hear

that news. There will be opportunities for them, possibly on

the island but more likely if they want to move to Birmingham, we know

that is not realistic for everyone but the opportunities are there and

we are working with him to see what they would like to do. Briefly,

what about the shops in Guernsey and Jersey, will they remain open?

The stores in Jersey and Guernsey are popular and will be continuing

and we would do our best to cater to the public's demand on both

islands. Thank you very much. A Guernseyman has died in a hang

gliding accident in Spain. James Berryman was training as a hang

glider pilot in the Algodonales near Cadiz when he was fatally

injured last Friday. He was 59. The new Les Beaucamps school will

be opening at the start of the Autumn term. Delays to the thirty-

seven million pound building project had pushed the move-in date

back, but the builders have been able to make up lost time. It means

pupils will be able to vacate the current site, and start the new

school year with brand new facilities. The current school is,

as we know, past its best. In terms of the building and the opportunity

to be in the school and have more space and better recreational

facilities, classrooms fit for purpose, it will make a huge

difference to both students and staff.

Mail and newspapers will arrive into Jersey later from next week.

Jersey Airport will open at six in the morning instead of half five

after the UK's National Publishers Association announced it will no

longer contribute to the cost of opening the runway early. Some

customers will receive their newspapers and mail slightly later.

step closer to promotion. They beat Chichester on Saturday to remain

two points clear at the top of London One South - with just three

games left to play. Jersey meanwhile scored seven tries

as they comprehensively beat Cambridge in National League One.

They remain four points clear with four games remaining. Not such good

news for Guernsey tennis player Heather Watson. She lost in the

third round of the Miami Masters to world number one Victoria Azarenka.

Watson had beaten the world number twenty five Lucie Safarova in the

Good evening, the weekend warmth has given us some high temperatures

and a new record high for the month of March. The previous record was

1965 and on Saturday temperatures on Jersey went up to 21.2. It is

higher than it has been for quite a few years. The warmth stays with us

through the next four days. High pressure is there. More of a breeze

which will drop temperatures by a couple of degrees. High pressure

doesn't want to move far and it sticks with us. Fine and sunny a

good summary of the one of. A brisk easterly breeze, overnight it will

drop a bit but back tomorrow. Overnight temperatures in single
