Good evening. More jobs under threat - 10 per cent of jobs could

go at Jersey Post as LVCR is scrapped. Also on tonight's

programme - airport on alert. Emergency services are scrambled as

an Aurigny Trislander makes an emergency landing in Alderney. And

the new idea that's set to clamp down on alcohol and drug abuse in

Guernsey. De it is a problem we will have to pick up later on if we

do not deal with that early. Up to 10 per cent of staff at

Jersey Post could lose their jobs as a result of the UK preventing

Channel Islands companies selling goods tax free to the UK. The job

losses follow redundancies already made at Guernsey Post. Both

companies warn that they'll have to increase the price of stamps - not

only to meet the price hike announced by the UK today - but

also to make up for an anticipated loss of mail order business. Rachel

Royce reports. Here at Jersey'ss sorting office in

St Savior the afternoon post is arriving. This office handles

100,000 items a day. But things could be a lot quieter very soon.

Jersey Post estimates it will lose half its mail and up to half its

profit if mail order business dries up as anticipated. 40 people

currently work at Jersey Post handling that business. Their jobs

are now under threat. We're still hopeful that some other customers

will carry on trading in the island. If more than we expect leave the

next thing would be that they would try to redeploy staff elsewhere in

the business. Both Guernsey and Jersey are considering an increase

in the price of stamps as one way of coping with the change in their

business. We have produced a cost in preparation for eventualities

such as this over the last couple of years. At the end of this but we

will move to a five did love the week which will save money. Cost is

a big issue. Prices will go up. Healthspark is a mail order

business based in Jersey that is considering his future. The boss

has not want to relocate at a price hike for stamps could sway him to

go. We are trying to reduce our cost of operating in Jersey so that

be can stay. If Jersey Post increase the postage it could be

the final nail in the coffin. have already been significant

losses in the mail order industry. Postal workers are next, but their

bosses are hoping to limit the impact by making an increase in

that the price of stamps. Ironically that could drive from

Emergency services were placed on full alert this morning.

Fire police and ambulance crews were scrambled after the pilot

reported he was returning to Alderney having shut down the

centre engine. The pilot notice the engine pressure falling. He could

close the engine down. He made a return to Alderney. The plane with

seven passengers on board landed safely this morning. The met is his

investigate because of the technical issue and there should be

able to identify it later today or tomorrow.

There'll be more help in future for families affected by drug and

alcohol abuse in Guernsey. A three year pilot project will offer

counselling and support - the aim being to reduce the likelihood of

children becoming addicts themselves. It's been made possible

thanks to grants from Children in Need and the FRM Charitable Trust.

Penny Elderfield reports. Bad habits can start young. And if

a child grows up with parents who abuse alcohol or drugs - there's

evidence to show they could be more likely to later on.

But now this Guernsey charity could help reduce the chances of that

happening after getting more than �100,000 from Children In Need to

fund a three year project. programme is aimed at families who

are affected by a diction. The main focus is on the children. To raise

self-esteem and to reduce the possibility is that they could go

on to be drug users themselves. The money will be used to help fund

a full time post here at Drug Concern. But they'll be working

with agencies right across the Island to identify those that need

this extra help. Other charities and charity workers like this one

has seen first-hand how children can develop problems with drink or

drugs. That is exactly the kind of thing

we need. That is not just good for the young people but for society as

a whole. While the fund-raising may look like fun Children In Need can

have a serious side, but hopefully this project will make a difference

to families in Guernsey. A 32-year-old man from Guernsey has

been sentenced to four years in prison with intent to supply a

class B drug. Just before Christmas the man was -- the man's home was

searched. 145 grams of a class B drug was found. The street value

was almost �12,000. HMS daring has just completed

exercises with the US Navy in the Gulf. The Type 42 destroyer has

been training with the US fleet. Dearing is two months into the

deployment. Still to come - Exeter airport get

a memorial to highlight the importance of the airfield in the
