others. Fit for the future - the best squash

players in the world compete and inspire the next generation.

This weekend much different than last, I will have all put details

later in the programme. Guernsey's Chief Minister is fully

behind plans to change the population strategy for the island.

It will decide who can live and work in Guernsey. The main proposals are:

introducing a system of short, medium and long-term employment

permits for one year, five years and eight years. Once someone has lived

continuously in the local market for eight years they will earn the right

to stay in the island. However, they'll have to stay for a total of

14 years before they're allowed to leave and keep the right to return.

But today revised plans have been revealed for the open market, as

Mike Wilkins reports. These are some of the most expensive properties in

Guernsey, reserved for the Open Market, which is open to incomers.

But the last few years have seen it struggle following news it was to be

reviewed as part of the population strategy. Taking the last two years,

it has dropped dramatically. Guernsey's Chief Minister and his

Policy Council are keen that the Open Market is protected. It will

give confidence to people who are part of the open market. They are

typical family homes that have been used by entrepreneurs coming to

Guernsey, who have contributed significantly to Guernsey. That part

of the open market is secure. We are looking to create a new set, which

will be for multi-occupancy. Anything that rocks the confidence

or the business community's beliefs about the island and its economy in

the future is bad news for the island, so we would like this to be

settled as soon as possible. It's taken four years of research and

consultation to get to this stage. It's now reaching its final phase as

the deputies debate the 45 recommendations in this document.

And the content of this will affect every man, woman and child now and

in the future who wants to live or work in the island. Mike Wilkins,

in Guernsey rose in the past year. Local market prices were up by 1.8%

compared to a year ago, with the average house now costing �480,000.

A man who's accused of trying to murder his wife has been committed

to Jersey's Royal Court. 54-year-old Antonio Barbosa is charged with

attempting to kill Maria Barbosa at their home in St Brelade in March.

Guernsey Dairy is producing fresh local milk again. An equipment fault

on Tuesday halted production and milk had to be imported to the

island from Jersey and the UK. The dairy say they are now producing

enough milk to fulfil current orders.

Parents in Jersey whose children haven't had the two-dose MMR vaccine

are being urged to go to a free catch-up clinic at the hospital

tomorrow. It comes as England and Wales are experiencing the highest

level of measles cases for eighteen years. Nafisa Sayani reports.

Swansea is busy protecting children against measles. In Jersey the

immunisation take-up is high but health officials here are worried

about at least five hundred children who might not have had their jabs.

About a decade ago, the uptake of MMR vaccination plummeted, directly

as a result of adverse publicity about the now discredited claims

that MMR vaccine was linked to autism. Some parents didn't take the

opportunity to have the vaccine when their children were younger and they

may just have never got round to having the vaccination since.

why the department's set up a free catch-up clinic at the General

Hospital this weekend, for schoolchildren. With people

travelling into and out of the island, it says there's always a

chance the disease will spread here. And while we may not see queues like

this in Jersey, officials hope parents there will heed the warning.

We haven't got any cases of measles in Jersey at the moment and

obviously we want to keep it that way. But if the uptake of vaccine

doesn't stay high, and if there's an increase in the number of children

who are not protected, then the disease comes back.

The cost of electricity in Sark is set to increase. It's a rise the

provider, Sark Electricity, is blaming on the Island's government's

attempt to regulate the company. Chief Pleas says it wants to make

sure customers are getting a fair deal. Sark already pays a lot more

than the other Channel Islands. Based on standard tariffs, for

households using an average of 3,300 units a year. In Jersey the costs

would be around �530 a year. In Guernsey that increases to nearly

660. In Alderney it jumps to 1,160. And in Sark it's higher still, at

around �1,810 per year. Although most households don't use that much

power. But as Penny Elderfield reports, that figure in Sark will go

up again this quarter. Powering any small island isn't cheap. But in

Sark the price of the fuel to run these generators, and the logistics

of getting it here, makes it even more expensive. But the privately

run company that keeps the island switched on - says attempts by Chief

Pleas to regulate it are adding to its costs. Costs that are having to

be passed on to customers, with a government surcharge which will be

going up by one pence a unit. price is very high, it has to be

because of the cost is. The customers deserve to know they are

not being ripped off. The added cost is down to the legal advice Sark

Electricity is having to take on laws that Chief Pleas may introduce,

and trips to talk to Guernsey's electricity regulator. And that once

it's all resolved the extra charge could be removed. But that part of

the problem is that Chief Pleas isn't talking to them - although

those in power say the lines of communication are still open.

to bring to a resolution in a way that suits everybody. Both sides may

want a resolution - but this power company says it's still not seen

evidence that Chief Pleas want to sit down and talk about it. But at

the moment an attempt to make sure customers are getting a good deal -

is actually costing them more. Some of the world's best squash

players are competing in Jersey this weekend. It's the first time the

island has staged a global event in the sport. The aim is to inspire

more young people across the Channel Islands to take it up. The matches

began today - Pam Caulfield was there. Nick Taylor's got some stiff

competition. Once ranked in the top 15 squash players in the world -

this weekend, he's taking some of the sport's best players. Some are

from afar afield as Egypt and Argentina - others a little closer.

We've got Chris Simpson, who's a number one seed from Guernsey so

that's really nice, because you've got a player there who's reached

number 26 in the world from an island. A lot of people say you

can't produce a top squash player from Jersey because it's an island -

of course you can. We've got a strong pedigree in squash and again

it's about inspiring our young players to be top, top professionals

in the future. This is the first time a world squash event's been

held in Jersey - and the courts are brand new. It's a highly competitive

tournament - with many of the players gearing up for both the

Island and Commonwealth Games. The first match began this morning and

by the end all the seats were full. Among those watching the action -

were future players like William and Brooke. Next set, why don't you come

down and have an goal so I just went down and I loved it. When I started

doing it, I thought it looked really difficult. They had a chance to take

on the pros before the match and with the tournament only be running

for four days - it's hoped that's long enough to leave a lasting

legacy. Good luck to all competing this

weekend. Let's take a look at the disappointing. No pressure is well
