good evening. The headlines: Follow Church of England law, not the

:00:10.:00:12.

island's own. We have exclusive access to letters from the Bishop of

:00:13.:00:15.

Winchester telling Jersey's Dean he must defy local laws if they

:00:16.:00:18.

conflict with the church support for Low Value Consignment relief.

:00:19.:00:25.

To me, that is unacceptable for someone outside Jersey, who is a

:00:26.:00:32.

member of the House of Lords, to be telling someone who is a member of

:00:33.:00:37.

Parliament of Jersey to effectively break Jersey law.

:00:38.:00:41.

Support for Low Value Consignment Relief ` UK MPs say they are

:00:42.:00:47.

sympathetic to a move that could support Island growers.

:00:48.:00:52.

And, oh no, it isn't! The curtain goes up on a pantomime with a

:00:53.:00:59.

difference in Guernsey. The BBC has been given exclusive

:01:00.:01:02.

access to letters suspending the Dean of Jersey in which the Bishop

:01:03.:01:05.

of Winchester asserts that laws governing the Church of England

:01:06.:01:08.

should take precedent over Jersey's own laws. It's the latest

:01:09.:01:13.

development in a long running rift between the Island and its Anglican

:01:14.:01:17.

leaders. In March this year, an independent

:01:18.:01:20.

report investigated allegations that the Very Reverend Bob Key mishandled

:01:21.:01:21.

an abuse complaint made in 2008. The an abuse complaint made in 2008 The

:01:22.:01:26.

Korris report criticised his failure to take the complaint seriously and

:01:27.:01:32.

led to the Dean's suspension. The diocese then ordered a second report

:01:33.:01:34.

reviewing safeguarding policies. diocese then ordered a second report

reviewing safeguarding policies The diocese then ordered a second report

:01:38.:01:37.

reviewing safeguarding policies The Gladwin report has still not been

:01:38.:01:41.

published. In April, the Dean was reinstated after apologising for the

:01:42.:01:44.

way he handled the abuse complaint. In May, the former appeal judge in

:01:45.:01:48.

Jersey, Dame Heather Steel, was asked by the Diocese of Winchester

:01:49.:01:51.

to lead a further investigation into the abuse complaint. It was revealed

:01:52.:01:56.

last month that her report will not be made public.

:01:57.:02:02.

BBC Radio Jersey's Matthew Price joined me earlier to explain more.

:02:03.:02:11.

It is a very serious letter from the bishop outlining the Dean's

:02:12.:02:14.

suspension, and the investigation into how and allegation was

:02:15.:02:19.

investigated by the dioceses into suspected abuse along the way. One

:02:20.:02:24.

bishop stresses that the Dean has a duty of obedience to him as a

:02:25.:02:29.

bishop, and that the Dean, Bob Key, should not defy him, particularly

:02:30.:02:33.

his request relating to Jersey's own laws. The bishop writes that

:02:34.:02:37.

whatever the local lawmakers seek to impose, the Dean must follow church

:02:38.:02:43.

law and not local law. So basically, the bishop has told the Dean to

:02:44.:02:47.

ignore Jersey rules. The Dean is a member of Jersey's parliament. Does

:02:48.:02:52.

this raise tensions diplomatically? Allegations of pressure have been

:02:53.:02:56.

raised and the Dean would have to ignore his obligations to the

:02:57.:03:03.

Bishop, and that our concerns that the Bishop of Winchester and the

:03:04.:03:05.

dieses themselves have acted very badly towards Jersey. To me, that is

:03:06.:03:11.

unacceptable, for someone outside of Jersey, who is a member of the House

:03:12.:03:17.

of Lords and a bishop, to be telling someone who is a member of

:03:18.:03:20.

Parliament of Jersey to effectively break Jersey law. What is the

:03:21.:03:24.

response from the Bishop of Winchester? He has said that he

:03:25.:03:28.

acted within the law and he expect the Dean to comply with his orders

:03:29.:03:33.

over any local laws. The dioceses of Winchester says it expects that

:03:34.:03:37.

anyone who works for them is committed to addressing fundamental

:03:38.:03:41.

discrepancies between church law and local law. Any reaction from the

:03:42.:03:45.

Dean himself tonight? He told us this issue has been very painful and

:03:46.:03:48.

this was a difficult letter for him to receive. He says the law of the

:03:49.:03:54.

land is the law, and that no citizen is allowed to disobey it.

:03:55.:03:56.

MPs at Westminster have agreed to support the reinstatement of a

:03:57.:03:59.

controversial Channel Island tax concession. Low Value Consignment

:04:00.:04:02.

Relief, which allowed goods under a certain value to be sent VAT free,

:04:03.:04:06.

was scrapped last year by Westminster. A group of Guernsey

:04:07.:04:09.

growers and politicians travelled to London to lobby the UK Government.

:04:10.:04:14.

Mike Wilkins reports. For years, Guernsey's growing

:04:15.:04:17.

industry bloomed as it benefitted from being able to sell products

:04:18.:04:21.

into the UK VAT free. But, last year, the British government

:04:22.:04:23.

controversially scrapped Low Value Consignment Relief, or LVCR, last

:04:24.:04:26.

year after concerns that it gave some bulk mail firms an unfair

:04:27.:04:33.

advantage. But a group of growers and deputies have met this week with

:04:34.:04:37.

British MPs and Peers to make their case to reinstate LVCR for local

:04:38.:04:42.

flower growers. And several UK politicians agreed to support their

:04:43.:04:51.

case. They want us to come forward with some sort of proposal that is

:04:52.:04:55.

practical and doesn't open up too much of another exemption that could

:04:56.:05:03.

impact their economy. We are concentrating on indigenous Channel

:05:04.:05:08.

Island produce and to see whether we can work something around that. Paul

:05:09.:05:12.

Ingrouille runs this flower business in Guernsey which has been going for

:05:13.:05:16.

more than 25 years. He says if the island could get LVCR back, then

:05:17.:05:19.

retailers may have to accept certain limitations. If the law came in that

:05:20.:05:25.

said there would be relief solely on the stuff you are growing in

:05:26.:05:29.

Guernsey, but if are doing circular you shipments then you cannot claim

:05:30.:05:36.

for VAT relief on those, and that is what we would have to live with.

:05:37.:05:37.

for VAT relief on those, and that is what we would have to live with The

:05:38.:05:37.

for VAT relief on those, and that is what we would have to live with. The

:05:38.:05:37.

what we would have to live with The visits to London have been described

:05:38.:05:41.

as a process of "winning hearts and minds", and, while this week's trip

:05:42.:05:45.

can be seen as a small victory, the Channel Islands still have a long

:05:46.:05:54.

way to go to win the LVCR war. Jersey's budget debate rumbled on

:05:55.:05:57.

today with long arguments about the amount of duty added to alcohol

:05:58.:06:02.

tobacco and fuel. Any attempt to remove any increase was rejected,

:06:03.:06:05.

but the arguments by how much they will go up continue.

:06:06.:06:12.

It has been a long day in Jersey States as politicians discuss next

:06:13.:06:15.

year's budget. Today they have talked about duty increases for

:06:16.:06:19.

alcohol, fuel and tobacco. Increases in fuel will go up by 1.5%, which is

:06:20.:06:25.

a slight change to what Treasury bond. They wanted a 2% increase.

:06:26.:06:31.

That was a successful change by its own telly Dunstable Simon Crowe

:06:32.:06:37.

Croft. He wasn't successful in trying to reduce the amount that

:06:38.:06:43.

tobacco goes up. It'll go up by 11%. That is 47p on a packet of King

:06:44.:06:50.

20 cigarettes. Without the whole it is more concentrated. Stronger

:06:51.:06:55.

alcohol will go up by 11% on duty rises, but for lower strength

:06:56.:06:59.

alcohol and wine, the duty will go up slightly less, and to a change

:07:00.:07:05.

brought in by the Treasury minister. The Channel Islands have joined up

:07:06.:07:09.

with the South West of England to develop offshore wind and tidal

:07:10.:07:12.

energy projects. They've signed an agreement to work together to create

:07:13.:07:15.

renewable energy from the sea. The idea is to share research and

:07:16.:07:18.

information and grow the industry. It comes as the UK Government

:07:19.:07:22.

increases the price it pays for offshore wind power.

:07:23.:07:31.

The curtain is about to go up on a pantomime with a difference in

:07:32.:07:34.

Guernsey. It's called Snow White and the Seven Directors, and it's all

:07:35.:07:37.

about redundancy. Not exactly a festive theme, but the law firm

:07:38.:07:41.

behind it says the irreverent look at employment legislation will teach

:07:42.:07:43.

employers how to deal with the tricky issue more fairly. Tim

:07:44.:07:46.

Robinson had a back`stage pass to the dress rehearsal today.

:07:47.:07:54.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, but not as you know them! Though you

:07:55.:07:58.

might recognise some of these characters from your workplace.

:07:59.:08:09.

Let's make this quick, I have got a meeting later. I like a wee drop of

:08:10.:08:17.

whiskey. Ladies, I've got a big one. It's in the name. Get out of my

:08:18.:08:27.

face. Why is this camera in my face? Am I getting paid for this? Can you

:08:28.:08:34.

point the camera away from me, I have got a really bad migraine. The

:08:35.:08:38.

performers are from Guernsey College, but this unusual rendition

:08:39.:08:42.

of Snow White has been written by lawyer. Redundancy is a hot topic,

:08:43.:08:50.

and it is something that I see a lot of at the moment through the course

:08:51.:08:54.

of my work. I was finding that a lot of employers were basing redundancy

:08:55.:08:59.

on subjective criteria, personal traits and characteristics, and

:09:00.:09:02.

actually, that is not what they are supposed to do. It has got to be

:09:03.:09:11.

based on more objective criteria. The seven direct display the board

:09:12.:09:16.

of this failing company, and it is up to our dynamic duo, Snow White

:09:17.:09:22.

and the Queen, to somehow decide who is going to stay and he will go. Is

:09:23.:09:28.

and the Queen, to somehow decide who is going to stay and he will go Is

:09:29.:09:31.

employment law too dour an issue for a one`night panto spectacular?

:09:32.:09:33.

Tonight in Guernsey they answer .. Well, you didn't expect me to get

:09:34.:09:37.

all the way through this report without it saying it, did you? The

:09:38.:09:40.

answer, of course, is "Oh no, it isn't!".

:09:41.:09:51.

Good evening. We are going to see a bit of a change tonight as colder

:09:52.:10:00.

air floods in behind the band of rain that has been plaguing us for

:10:01.:10:04.

the last hour or so. It is moving away, say later on tonight it will

:10:05.:10:08.

turn quite chilly and we might even see some frost. A brighter day

:10:09.:10:12.

tomorrow with some sunshine, and it will feel colder. A brisk north`west

:10:13.:10:20.

wind will develop. The cloud is slowly moving down into France, and

:10:21.:10:24.

it will eventually go. There is a fair amount of clear skies that will

:10:25.:10:27.

develop behind it, and then that high pressure begins to slip down

:10:28.:10:31.

towards the Bay of Biscay. This weather system will bring some rain

:10:32.:10:36.

late tomorrow night, and as a move into Friday, we have got high

:10:37.:10:42.

pressure coming back. Generally light winds tonight, but it will

:10:43.:10:45.

turn quite cold, with enough clear sky to get temperatures down as low

:10:46.:10:49.

as three or four degrees. That is cold enough for a touch of Frost.

:10:50.:10:54.

Tomorrow, a bright enough start Some sunny spells, and more cloud

:10:55.:10:59.

coming into the second half of the day. And the wind will increase

:11:00.:11:04.

Although we will get 10 degrees, day. And the wind will increase.

:11:05.:11:05.

Although we will get 10 degrees it day. And the wind will increase

:11:06.:11:05.

Although we will get 10 degrees it will feel colder with that wind.

:11:06.:11:07.

Although we will get 10 degrees, it will feel colder with that wind.

:11:08.:11:10.

Those wins will reach 46 by the end of the afternoon. `` fourth six

:11:11.:11:30.

Friday will be quite a cloudy day. It will be quite stubborn to break

:11:31.:11:39.

up. For the weekend, we have got sunny spells and patchy cloud.

:11:40.:11:42.

Temperatures on the way down a little bit. The wind will be mainly

:11:43.:11:50.

from the South or Southwest. Have a good evening.

:11:51.:11:55.

That's it for now. Goodbye. landlords for them to come forward

:11:56.:12:03.

if they have an empty house that can be used to re`home someone on the

:12:04.:12:06.

homeless register. A jury was today told that a

:12:07.:12:09.

pensioner died after falling into the River Exe because her walking

:12:10.:12:13.

stick broke and not because of any safety shortcomings of steps and

:12:14.:12:15.

handrails. Exeter City Council denies breaching health and safety

:12:16.:12:18.

laws where passengers get on and off Butts Ferry at Exeter Quay.

:12:19.:12:30.

80`year`old Dorothy Stevens drowned when she fell into the river in July

:12:31.:12:34.

2010. Hamish Marshall joins me now from Exeter Crown Court.

:12:35.:12:41.

We find out why Sharron Robbie has been nominated as this year's unsung

:12:42.:12:45.

sporting hero. The premise of the defence case was that Dorothy

:12:46.:12:50.

Stevens would not have fallen into the water if her walking stick had

:12:51.:12:56.

not snapped into. A consultant came to the courts today and spoke about

:12:57.:13:01.

how she was not very agile and a foldable stake was not as reliable

:13:02.:13:06.

as a wooden one. He said that if it had not broken in such a way he

:13:07.:13:09.

believed she would have been able to climb the steps.

:13:10.:13:16.

Who else has been giving evidence? The health and safety inspector who

:13:17.:13:20.

was called there in 2010 gave evidence. She was asked why she

:13:21.:13:25.

allowed Butts Ferry to continue to operate as normal through the rest

:13:26.:13:29.

of that summer if there was such a danger in these steps. She said the

:13:30.:13:34.

full circumstances surrounding what happened to Dorothy Stevens was not

:13:35.:13:38.

known at the time. And other witness, a retired health and say

:13:39.:13:42.

inspector, said that just because there have been changes to the steps

:13:43.:13:47.

and rails does not mean that work needed to be done before the

:13:48.:13:53.

accident happened. What happens now? Tomorrow morning

:13:54.:13:58.

we will have the closing speeches. The jury will retire to consider its

:13:59.:14:07.

verdict. Next on Spotlight: We hear from the man who received an apology

:14:08.:14:11.

after complaining to the Prime Minister.

:14:12.:14:16.

Also We find out why Sharron Robbie has been nominated as this year's

:14:17.:14:18.

unsung sporting hero. I have been kissed a few times under

:14:19.:14:23.

the mistletoe. I was kissed a few times when I was younger. I am still

:14:24.:14:29.

waiting! A man from Dorset who wrote to the

:14:30.:14:33.

Prime Minister to say that he'd only received his out of work benefits on

:14:34.:14:37.

time once in three months has today received an apology from the

:14:38.:14:39.

government. Adrian Robinson claims problems with his job`seeker's

:14:40.:14:42.

Allowance began when he returned to his home town of Lyme Regis, from

:14:43.:14:45.

where Simon Clemison sent this report.

:14:46.:14:53.

Think of Lyme Regis and you probably think of the cob and the coast but

:14:54.:14:57.

it is not just a famous tourist spot. I found a business park here

:14:58.:15:02.

where people live and work as well as come to be enjoyed. It is lovely

:15:03.:15:08.

to be back. Returning to his home town after his contract came to an

:15:09.:15:13.

end in Berkshire, Adrian wanted to join the local workforce. He is

:15:14.:15:17.

partially sighted and is helped by his wife. I went through the

:15:18.:15:20.

recession in the 1980s and you just had to wait until things get better.

:15:21.:15:25.

I know that as long as I keep doing everything I need to do... Are you?

:15:26.:15:31.

Yes, indeed. Adrienne knows about employment as much as unemployment,

:15:32.:15:35.

having been a human resources advisor. He was getting job`seeker's

:15:36.:15:56.

allowance before he moved back to Dorset but when he signed on in

:15:57.:15:58.

Weymouth the problems began. The system seemed unable to cope with

:15:59.:16:01.

the profit of the sale of their house when they moved even though it

:16:02.:16:04.

was below the amount that would have meant the benefits were docked.

:16:05.:16:06.

While he was entitled to the payment, every time it was delayed.

:16:07.:16:08.

We gave them all the information they needed but the system would not

:16:09.:16:12.

bend. There is no more that I can do and the benefit that we seek we were

:16:13.:16:15.

entitled to and we were entitled to it on time. Adrienne may have been

:16:16.:16:17.

making every effort to find work by new rules mean there are those that

:16:18.:16:21.

don't in the government's view. Many people have already been penalised

:16:22.:16:26.

in a shake`up of state benefits. Support services say that some are

:16:27.:16:29.

struggling with all the changes. We need to be sure that the system is

:16:30.:16:33.

there to help people and we do not get into a situation where admin

:16:34.:16:37.

errors make things worse and put a burden on people because many people

:16:38.:16:40.

do not have a safety net or anything to fall back on. This job`seeker

:16:41.:16:52.

managed to survive as other benefits were paid on time. The Department

:16:53.:16:55.

for Work and Pensions has apologised for the delay and said it has

:16:56.:16:57.

rectified the issue with any money owing being paid.

:16:58.:16:59.

Yeovil Town's renaisssance could be underway in football's Championship.

:17:00.:17:05.

Their one goal win over Blackpool at Huish Park last night was their

:17:06.:17:08.

second in a row and keeps them within touching distance of the

:17:09.:17:11.

safety line. One of their three new loan signings, John Lundstram from

:17:12.:17:14.

Everton, scored the vital goal in the first half. Blackpool had three

:17:15.:17:18.

of their players dramatically sent off in added time as Yeovil hung on

:17:19.:17:22.

for a precious three points. Plymouth College swimmer Ruta

:17:23.:17:24.

Meilutyte has taken her tally of gold medals for the year to 12. The

:17:25.:17:29.

16`year`old Lithuanian, who's the Olympic and World champion, is

:17:30.:17:31.

representing England at the World Schools' Championship in Brazil and

:17:32.:17:35.

collected her latest gold in the 100 metre freestyle. The England team,

:17:36.:17:38.

coached by Jon Rudd the director of swimming at the College, were the

:17:39.:17:41.

top team in Brasilia with all seven of Rudd's swimmers winning at least

:17:42.:17:46.

one medal each. Prince Harry has been offering

:17:47.:17:49.

support to a group of servicemen, including a man from Devon, who have

:17:50.:17:53.

set off on what's being called the world's toughest rowing race. Cayle

:17:54.:17:59.

Royce who lives in Dartmouth lost both his legs last year while

:18:00.:18:02.

serving in Afghanistan. He's part of the Row2Recovery team racing in the

:18:03.:18:05.

Atlantic Challenge, to raise money for Help For Heroes. Prince Harry,

:18:06.:18:08.

who's currently trekking in Antarctica, called the team to wish

:18:09.:18:11.

them luck on their 3,000 mile journey.

:18:12.:18:25.

Especially if you have a broken toe, I imagine that is true. Good luck we

:18:26.:18:33.

are thinking of you. Throughout this week we're meeting

:18:34.:18:36.

the people you've nominated as Unsung Sporting Heroes. Across the

:18:37.:18:41.

region there are scores of people who give up huge amounts of their

:18:42.:18:45.

own time to help others enjoy their chosen sport. Tonight's finalist is

:18:46.:18:48.

Sharron Robbie, who's the Chair of the Plymouth Netball League.

:18:49.:18:54.

Spotlight's John Ayres reports. We want to 20 chest passes. The profile

:18:55.:18:59.

of netball has risen significantly in Plymouth in recent years with 800

:19:00.:19:04.

women playing in the city league. Heading it up is Sharron Robbie. She

:19:05.:19:08.

has been an ambassador for the sport, but most significantly she

:19:09.:19:12.

works hard to provide a permanent home for netball in the city. Over

:19:13.:19:17.

the last three or four years I have lobbied really hard to gain a

:19:18.:19:21.

central venue for our sport in the city. We were extremely lucky to get

:19:22.:19:25.

the support from Plymouth City Council and England netball and

:19:26.:19:31.

sport England to give us our home in the Plymouth life Centre. Sharon has

:19:32.:19:34.

been keen to encourage more women into sport generally. She heads up

:19:35.:19:38.

the league which is quite a challenge. You are talking about

:19:39.:19:43.

more than 80 teams in the Plymouth and district league which is a lot

:19:44.:19:47.

of people to manage, with their own views and suppression is of interest

:19:48.:19:50.

and they are really concerned for their own teams and she manages it

:19:51.:19:55.

beautifully. She is passion and NHS and approachable and she wants to do

:19:56.:20:01.

things right for netball and netball in Plymouth and sport itself. She is

amazing. What is it that drives Sharon on? When you start to

:20:07.:20:11.

volunteer for an organisation, whether it is a sport or charitable

:20:12.:20:15.

organisation, I think that if you feel passionately about something

:20:16.:20:18.

you really want to share it with others and I am absolutely

:20:19.:20:22.

passionate about netball and what it can bring, especially to young

:20:23.:20:26.

women. Sharon has been on the committee for more than 20 years.

:20:27.:20:30.

Plymouth netball harbour is now one of the largest of its type in the

:20:31.:20:34.

country. We'll find out about another Unsung

:20:35.:20:36.

Sporting Hero in Spotlight tomorrow and the overall winner will be

:20:37.:20:44.

announced in Friday's Spotlight. I can't wait to find out who it is.

:20:45.:20:48.

It will be a tough decision for the judges. We have heard sobs `` from

:20:49.3:36:14

some fantastic people again this year.

3:36:152:53:00

Now, this festive season, will you be hanging the mistletoe with the

2:53:012:53:00

hope of catching someone under it for a traditional Christmas kiss?

2:53:012:53:00

I make no comment on that. I just happen to have some here...

2:53:012:53:00

I do hope not! I am in terrible trouble now. Well, work has begun

2:53:012:53:00

gathering in hundreds of bunches of mistletoe at The National Trust's

2:53:012:53:00

Cotehele House in Cornwall. Johnny Rutherford has been along to find

2:53:012:53:00

out more about the plant and how the tradition of kissing under it came

2:53:012:53:00

about. Are you sure? Sorry. Long before our

2:53:012:53:00

ancestors were hanging mistletoe up at Christmas time it was believed it

2:53:012:53:00

had special powers. They were careful not to let it touch the

2:53:012:53:00

ground because it was said to really move its strength. This week Gardner

2:53:012:53:00

's are also being careful in cutting and harvesting their mistletoe, to

2:53:012:53:00

make sure that both the Apple tree and the plant to `` continue to

2:53:012:53:00

survive together. The mistletoe grows in Saint biosis with the tree,

2:53:012:53:00

it is a semi`parasitic plant and they grow together really well,

2:53:012:53:00

although the mistletoe will tend, if it is not checked, you will see that

2:53:012:53:00

I am taking out large clumps because it will start to take over the tree

2:53:012:53:00

a little bit. It does need careful management. Mistletoe is often found

2:53:012:53:00

in traditionally managed orchards although it is unusual to find it

2:53:012:53:00

Cornwall. This is a fantastic food source for birds in the orchard and

2:53:012:53:00

it is quite popular at this time of the year as well. It is still

2:53:012:53:00

possible as part of the traditional Christmas decor. In Europe it was

2:53:012:53:00

not to bring good luck and here in the UK we went one stage further and

2:53:012:53:00

hope that luck would get us kiss! It used to be said that young men had

2:53:012:53:00

the privilege of kissing girls under mistletoe, plucking off Bury for

2:53:012:53:00

each case. The berries were gone the privilege ceased. This couple have

2:53:012:53:00

been married 60 years but have never once kissed under the mistletoe. No,

2:53:012:53:00

we haven't. No! We have never needed it! First time then. I have been

2:53:012:53:00

kissed a few times under the mistletoe. I think I was kissed a

2:53:012:53:00

few times when I was younger. And I am still waiting! I would offer to

2:53:012:53:00

help out but I am married! Indeed, if Rebecca's husband is

2:53:012:53:00

watching, I was joking of course! Although there is some mistletoe on

2:53:012:53:00

our desk which has been attempting a full day but we haven't...

2:53:012:53:00

Tempting us! Really. It is time for the weather. He is

2:53:012:53:00

quite a big fellow, her husband, isn't he?

2:53:012:53:00

He is taller than me! Let us look at the weather then.

2:53:012:53:00

the weather Let us start with what is happening

2:53:012:53:00

tomorrow. We have been gloomy for the last few days. The sunshine came

2:53:012:53:00

out today. Tomorrow is different, there will be frost and a cold start

2:53:012:53:00

in the morning. It will become quite windy in the second half of the day

2:53:012:53:00

and we will see showers towards the end of the afternoon and evening. We

2:53:012:53:00

are actually between weather systems to night. This stripe of cloud which

2:53:012:53:00

has kept us cloudy through the morning is now moving away and

2:53:012:53:00

moving into northern France and clear sky will follow. Tonight there

2:53:012:53:00

is a ridge of high pressure and we are expecting some low temperatures.

2:53:012:53:00

In the second half of the night, just slightly more of a breeze to

2:53:012:53:00

stir the air and by the middle of the day it will become quite breezy

2:53:012:53:00

with westerly or north`westerly winds that could touch gale force in

2:53:012:53:00

the Bristol Channel. Here is a look at what could happen on Friday.

2:53:012:53:00

There will be a chilly start with a risk of morning frost and then there

2:53:012:53:00

should be a decent enough day. The high pressure means the cloud will

2:53:012:53:00

be stubborn to shift so things will settle down nicely. We did have some

2:53:012:53:00

sunshine and it was quite a pleasant end to today. This was earlier near

2:53:012:53:00

Teignmouth where there were some bright skies. It was a lovely end to

2:53:012:53:00

the day and a nice sunshine `` sunset. Look at that cloud! This

2:53:012:53:00

means there will be frost is a night, not everywhere but certainly

2:53:012:53:00

for the areas that are well sheltered from the northerly

2:53:012:53:00

breeze. We will see overnight temperatures at or just below

2:53:012:53:00

freezing. A good deal of fine weather and clear sky. Good news for

2:53:012:53:00

the stargazers who have been disappointed in the last few nights.

2:53:012:53:00

The frost will develop in the small hours of the morning and towards

2:53:012:53:00

dawn we will see a bit more cloud drifting in from the North West as

2:53:012:53:00

the breeze steadily freshens. Nonetheless we see temperatures

2:53:012:53:00

close to freezing just about anywhere. In parts of central and

2:53:012:53:00

mid`Somerset temperatures could be as low as zero or below. Expect the

2:53:012:53:00

frost first thing tomorrow morning. Tomorrow it self is a bright enough

2:53:012:53:00

start with a lot of cloud around throughout the day. It will be

2:53:012:53:00

patchy. Some sunny spells briefly. As the wind increases so does the

2:53:012:53:00

cloud amount and through the afternoon we will see a cloudy end

2:53:012:53:00

to the day and a stiff north`westerly breeze setting in.

2:53:012:53:00

The breeze is strong enough in fact to whip up the waves along the north

2:53:012:53:00

coast and through the Bristol Channel. Rough seas are possible

2:53:012:53:00

here. The temperatures tomorrow, on the face of it it does not look bad

2:53:012:53:00

but because it is windy it will feel colder because of the strength of

2:53:012:53:00

the wind. For the owls `` for the Isles of Scilly, a fine enough start

2:53:012:53:00

but becoming windy with the risk of showers late in the day.

2:53:012:53:00

On the north coast the size of the ways increases through the day and

2:53:012:53:00

by the end of the afternoon it could be six feet and messy. That is it

2:53:012:53:00

for the coastal waters and there is more the breeze tomorrow. There,

2:53:012:53:00

then showers, and generally good visibility. At the end of the week

2:53:012:53:00

and Friday, it will be a fine start to the day but quickly becoming

2:53:012:53:00

cloudy. The cloud will be stubborn to shift as you move into the start

2:53:012:53:00

of the weekend. Note how the wind drops right down with light wind and

2:53:012:53:00

the high pressure comes back and there will briefly be sunshine on

2:53:012:53:00

Sunday. Have a good evening.

2:53:012:53:00

Thank you very much. That is the way the news and weather looks on

2:53:012:53:00

Wednesday evening. There will be an update on all the

2:53:012:53:00

main news at 1025 p.m. But have a good
