arrives on Friday. Can't wait! That's all

:00:00.:00:08.

Aurigny's taken the top spot in a survey of the world's best

:00:09.:05:09.

short`haul airlines. Readers of the consumer magazine Which? Ranked

:05:10.:05:14.

Aurigny higher than other major carriers such as British Airways,

:05:15.:05:17.

EasyJet, and Ryanair. Factors considered in the poll included

:05:18.:05:19.

value for money, baggage allowance and leg room. A Jersey`based travel

:05:20.:05:23.

operator has helped uncover an internet scam targeting the ski

:05:24.:05:26.

holiday market. Con artists are trying to steal thousands of pounds

:05:27.:05:30.

from holiday`makers by posing as the owners of luxury chalets. A Jersey

:05:31.:05:34.

company is one of those being targeted and it's owner is trying to

:05:35.:05:37.

stop the scam. Pam Caulfield reports. It is the beginning of the

:05:38.:05:46.

ski season and while some holiday`makers are hitting the

:05:47.:05:49.

school 's `` slopes, others have been left high and dry. Con artist

:05:50.:05:56.

target genuine travel websites like this one. We find this alternate

:05:57.:06:07.

site three weeks ago, you can see the photographs all taken from my

:06:08.:06:14.

site. The boys as chalet owners, advertise on other sites with the

:06:15.:06:19.

one contact details and take money off of holiday`makers. I would take

:06:20.:06:27.

to think our chalets are being used in this week to corn people out of

:06:28.:06:31.

money. We are doing our best, highlighting, contacting the agents

:06:32.:06:36.

and operators to make sure they are doing the bit to keep an eye on this

:06:37.:06:43.

as well. It is within hard to stop. This woman and her friends paid

:06:44.:06:51.

13,000 homes to a conman. We cannot believe we were so gullible, we are

:06:52.:06:55.

all professionals, we live in London and use the intranet daily. We felt

:06:56.:07:01.

stupid to fall prey and that aims to a plan like this. Victims might not

:07:02.:07:08.

only lose the money but they might not know they have been scammed

:07:09.:07:15.

until they arrive at the resort. We do not want people who have spent

:07:16.:07:22.

money out one of these fraudulent listings and to turn up with another

:07:23.:07:29.

family and fourth or to go into the same property. That is what we want

:07:30.:07:36.

to avoid. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Coming up

:07:37.:07:45.

later: Christmas countdown, the Street transformed into a giant

:07:46.:07:54.

advent calendar. No, ahead of Christmas this week we are featuring

:07:55.:08:00.

festive songs and carols. Tonight David a signing choir in Jersey.

:08:01.:09:25.

That was beautiful and we will be hearing from another festive choir

:09:26.:09:30.

tomorrow. And staying with the festive theme, hundreds of people in

:09:31.:09:33.

Guernsey were getting into the spirit yesterday. They were taking

:09:34.:09:36.

part in the annual Santa Fun Run. They were running for the charity

:09:37.:09:39.

Aid Reaching Children, which helps children all around the world. It is

:09:40.:09:45.

beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the weather is not

:09:46.:09:53.

being ball. How is it working? It is looking more like a wet Christmas

:09:54.:09:55.

than a white Christmas at the moment. We have been this evening.

:09:56.:10:01.

It will be wet through much of the data model and windy at times. It

:10:02.:10:12.

does remain relatively mild for the next few days. This suite of cloud

:10:13.:10:22.

will push up from the South West. We have some weather fronts which will

:10:23.:10:24.

bring rain and keep clean throughout the night and tomorrow. The weather

:10:25.:10:31.

front will clear towards the end of the day tomorrow. The next weather

:10:32.:10:35.

system will be shown from the West on Wednesday bringing more rain. The

:10:36.:10:40.

isobars close together so gale force winds are possible. That is towards

:10:41.:10:46.

the end of the week. Some heavy bursts of rain through the night.

:10:47.:10:52.

Heavy winds coming from the east and north`east. Temperature is now lower

:10:53.:10:57.

than seven degrees. A wet start to tomorrow, water on the Lord's first

:10:58.:11:04.

ring tomorrow. The rain should start to ease as we go through the data

:11:05.:11:10.

model. The wind will ease by the end of the model. Temperatures tomorrow

:11:11.:11:18.

afternoon reaching up to 10 degrees. Out at sea tomorrow we have been or

:11:19.:11:23.

drizzle at times. Modric, occasionally prove his ability. ``

:11:24.:11:41.

moderate, occasionally poor visibility.

:11:42.:11:51.

The rest of the week will still see some wet weather with us, rain

:11:52.:11:59.

arriving on Wednesday, strong winds, still breezy on Thursday and Friday

:12:00.:12:05.

but the wind will not be quite so strong and we will see some drier

:12:06.:12:10.

and brighter weather as well. Find out if that wet and windy weather

:12:11.:12:15.

will affect any of your travel plans by tuning into our radio stations.

:12:16.:12:19.

From us for now, good buy. help they can get. With big projects

:12:20.:12:23.

like the Atlantic Array of the table, small`scale projects could be

:12:24.:12:30.

the future. Now you'll remember during the Olympics there was a lot

:12:31.:12:34.

of talk about the legacy the games would leave. Well, one thing to have

:12:35.:12:38.

come out of London 2012 is the sport of handball. Yes, it's one of the

:12:39.:12:42.

most popular sports in Europe and it could be taking off in Devon. Now,

:12:43.:12:46.

the hunt's on to find enough under`16s to form the county's very

:12:47.:12:49.

first handball team. Our North Devon reporter Andrea Ormsby has the

:12:50.:12:58.

story. He grew up playing handball in France. His coaching skills are

:12:59.:13:03.

much needed because here, handball is something you get a penalty for

:13:04.:13:09.

in football. It is inclusive, it is a team sport, it is everything I

:13:10.:13:19.

like in a sport. It is great. At the moment we are attacking this way.

:13:20.:13:24.

The blues have the ball. Very quickly, they are moving back down

:13:25.:13:31.

the pitch. We want to get handball to be a commonly played sport. At

:13:32.:13:35.

the moment, we are trying to get people to find out about it and try

:13:36.:13:40.

it and then we will hopefully set up competitions. It might be little

:13:41.:13:44.

known, but handball is massive in Europe, with 19 million players and

:13:45.:13:50.

more than 150,000 teams. It is the second most played team sport for

:13:51.:13:54.

men and the second for women and these children love it. It is fun.

:13:55.:13:59.

You can pass it around, you can shoot, it makes you feel nice. You

:14:00.:14:06.

can get to score. I enjoy doing sport, but this is really good, you

:14:07.:14:13.

get to be a team player and you get to have fun passing and trying to

:14:14.:14:20.

score goals. So far there is only one handball club in the South West

:14:21.:14:25.

and an organisation set up last year is trying to change that. The goal

:14:26.:14:30.

is to have Devon's very first under 16 's team ready to compete in the

:14:31.:14:33.

national schools Championships next year. Onto the rest of the sport and

:14:34.:14:43.

Ruta Meilutyte has continued her golden form in the pool, hasn't she,

:14:44.:14:51.

Dave? Exeter Chiefs are virtually out of rugby's European Cup after

:14:52.:14:54.

going down 32`20 at holders Toulon. They were outscored by four tries to

:14:55.:14:58.

two, although they led 7`5 with Don Armand's excellent score in the

:14:59.:15:00.

first half, the South African's first for the Chiefs. But the French

:15:01.:15:04.

side went on to strengthen their grip at the top of Pool Two with

:15:05.:15:08.

Jonny Wilkinson dashing in to complete Toulon's scoring. Only

:15:09.:15:16.

Plymouth Argyle suffered defeat out of the South West Football League

:15:17.:15:19.

teams this weekend. John Sheridan's return to his former club

:15:20.:15:21.

Chesterfield ended in a 2`0 loss. But the rest came out unbeaten.

:15:22.:15:25.

Here's how the managers and fans reacted. It was a tired affair, both

:15:26.:15:34.

teams tried to the game. They knew a win would have been the better

:15:35.:15:40.

results. We are disappointed. We felt we had some good situations.

:15:41.:15:44.

Our goalkeeper made a couple of good saves. Keeper did not have make

:15:45.:15:54.

saves. `` their keeper. What a terrific goal! He is going forward

:15:55.:16:04.

again. A chance here. It is our second goal for Exeter city! Then a

:16:05.:16:17.

sharps! At a horrific goal! `` a brilliant goal. The goals we give

:16:18.:16:23.

away were a joke. It give us a mountain to climb. I thought we

:16:24.:16:28.

dominated the first half. It is about scoring goals. We had a

:16:29.:16:36.

penalty, if he had scored, the game would have been different. Everyone

:16:37.:16:43.

says how good the team is. We have not put points on the table. That

:16:44.:16:51.

was the aim. Today, I thought we were excellent against one of the

:16:52.:17:01.

best teams in the league. Plymouth College swimmer Ruta Meilutyte has

:17:02.:17:04.

added two more gold medals to take her haul this year to 14. The

:17:05.:17:07.

16`year`old Olympic and World champion set a new European

:17:08.:17:09.

short`course Championship record, pipping her great rival Yuliya

:17:10.:17:12.

Efimova of Russia. Ruta won a total of three medals in Denmark,

:17:13.:17:16.

including two golds and a silver, to end a phenomenal year for the

:17:17.:17:18.

Lithuanian who lives, trains and studies in Plymouth. Finally, kite

:17:19.:17:25.

racing's European Champion, Olly Bridge from Exmouth, came second at

:17:26.:17:28.

the inaugural Oceanic Championships at Fremantle in Australia. He was

:17:29.:17:31.

runner`up to the World champion, Florian Gruber of Germany.

:17:32.:17:33.

16`year`old Bridge pressurised Gruber all week, winning two races

:17:34.:17:37.

in the regatta and more than ?2,000 in prize money. That looks

:17:38.:18:00.

tremendous! A group of volunteers is planning to restart a centuries old

:18:01.:18:02.

industry along the Somerset coastline ` oyster farming. The

:18:03.:18:06.

group in the village of Porlock, near Minehead have already received

:18:07.:18:09.

grants of ?17,000 for a pilot project using oysters from Falmouth.

:18:10.:18:11.

Our Somerset Correspondent Clinton Rogers has the story. In this area

:18:12.:18:24.

is where the old fish traps and tidal ponds used to be. Out there

:18:25.:18:28.

somewhere beneath the sea there are apparently still the remnants of the

:18:29.:18:36.

oyster farms of Porlock Wear. In the day, they produced a delicacy

:18:37.:18:41.

renowned across the country. The best tasting oysters anywhere, or so

:18:42.:18:47.

they claimed. The oyster industry here disappeared about 80 years ago.

:18:48.:18:52.

In a few years time we will have an industry here. Now a voluntary

:18:53.:18:58.

organisation dedicated to encouraging economic growth, wants

:18:59.:19:02.

to restart the industry. To create new jobs in an area where such

:19:03.:19:07.

things are almost as rare as oysters. We are one of the oldest

:19:08.:19:13.

communities in the country `` country. It is difficult for young

:19:14.:19:17.

people with families to find good employment so that they can stay

:19:18.:19:22.

here. Is this the answer? We think it is. ?17,000 has been given to

:19:23.:19:36.

fund a pilot project. Initially, young oysters will be brought in

:19:37.:19:41.

from other fisheries, like here in Falmouth, and then they will be

:19:42.:19:45.

cultivated in Porlock. It will be an important test to see if the waters

:19:46.:19:51.

here can still sustain oysters. Eventually, if everything works out

:19:52.:19:57.

fine, we will have hundreds of oysters. It will be quite good in

:19:58.:20:05.

the local pubs. The trial will last one year at if it is successful,

:20:06.:20:10.

then this bay will once again see commercial oyster production, but

:20:11.:20:15.

what makes this project unique is that if and when it makes money,

:20:16.:20:20.

that money will be reinvested into another community project. Always

:20:21.:20:30.

with the aim of growing new jobs. Now do you have an advent calendar?

:20:31.:20:34.

Well, what if your whole street became an advent calendar? That's

:20:35.:20:36.

what they've done in Ashburton in South Devon. Neighbours in St

:20:37.:20:39.

Lawrence Lane have dressed up their windows to help with the countdown

:20:40.:20:42.

to Christmas. Johnny Rutherford has been to have a look. Just off one of

:20:43.:20:53.

the main streets and Ashburton is St Lawrence Lane. In May look like an

:20:54.:20:58.

average street, but something the residents are doing is causing

:20:59.:21:07.

excitement `` it may look like. The whole street has been transformed

:21:08.:21:11.

into what local residents are calling a living calendar. I sent

:21:12.:21:17.

about 35 letters and about 28 people replied wanting to be apart of it. I

:21:18.:21:24.

had to turn a few people down. It has been amazing, really lovely.

:21:25.:21:33.

Each day is a surprise. I am number 18 and the box has come down from

:21:34.:21:38.

the attic and I think flashing lights are essential. We are

:21:39.:21:43.

nervous. It has become competitive. It is lovely. We had a little boy

:21:44.:21:50.

coming home from school and he was very excited because he had found 11

:21:51.:21:55.

and you could hear him jumping up and down with excitement. It made it

:21:56.:22:04.

all worthwhile for us. I want to see the next one. I want to see the man

:22:05.:22:13.

leading the elephants. I like how they used everything they can think

:22:14.:22:18.

of. I like the nativity scenes. Which house will display tomorrow's

:22:19.:22:25.

window? That secret stays with the cat.

:22:26.:22:42.

More of a wet Christmas rather than a white Christmas. Some rain with us

:22:43.:22:51.

for tonight, the week ahead is looking rather unsettled. Some

:22:52.:22:55.

strong winds at times, especially for the middle part of the week. For

:22:56.:23:02.

today, we had cloud coming up from the south, it has kept things mild,

:23:03.:23:07.

but we have some weather fronts bringing rain for tonight. Some

:23:08.:23:15.

heavy downpours for a time. Tomorrow could be the best day of the week in

:23:16.:23:20.

terms of a dry and bright day. By the time we get to wear them stay,

:23:21.:23:24.

and other system moves in, some gales are possible. Today we had

:23:25.:23:33.

some rain, some heavy downpours, and some fairly cloudy conditions. If

:23:34.:23:42.

you're on the roads tonight, there is a lot of water. Tomorrow, that

:23:43.:23:47.

rain will start to clear away and with light winds and clearer skies,

:23:48.:23:54.

some mist and fog is likely, and temperatures will drop down to three

:23:55.:23:59.

or four degrees. Parts of the countryside could be lower than

:24:00.:24:07.

that. You might find some mist and fog tomorrow, the sun should clear

:24:08.:24:12.

that away, a few showers close to the south coast, but otherwise you

:24:13.:24:18.

are looking at a dry day with some lighter winds temperatures reaching

:24:19.:24:23.

up to around eight or nine degrees. For the Isles of Scilly, a fairly

:24:24.:24:30.

dry and bright day, moderate winds. Times of high water... For the

:24:31.:24:43.

surfers, some decent waves for the North Coast. Generally clean waves.

:24:44.:24:52.

Choppy on the south coast. The coastal waters forecast... The week

:24:53.:25:06.

ahead continues and settles, so make the most of the dry and bright

:25:07.:25:10.

weather tomorrow. On weapon state there will be heavy rain arriving

:25:11.:25:18.

from the West `` Wednesday. Thursday and Friday is still quite breezy,

:25:19.:25:23.

but a bit cooler. A few showers could turn wintry, but on Friday it

:25:24.:25:27.

looks like we will return to more wet and windy weather.

:25:28.:25:31.

Now, before we go this evening, as is our tradition in the run up to

:25:32.:25:37.

Christmas, we have the first of our Christmas Carols. This year we

:25:38.:25:40.

recorded singers and choirs from our four counties in the Mary Harris

:25:41.:25:43.

Chapel at the University of Exeter. Tonight we leave you with the Sterts

:25:44.:25:45.

Singers from Cornwall. Goodnight.
