Good evening. Parts of Jersey's coast may still be unsafe after last

week's storms. A large rock fall at St Catherine's brought down tonnes

of earth yesterday, closing the footpath nearby. `` St Catherine.

And Plemont beach remains closed after a massive landslide. Emma

Chambers reports on the ever`growing list of weather casualties. They

were built to defend Jersey against English troops during World War II.

But now it seems these German fortifications are losing the battle

against nature. Repair work is under way here at the Royal Jersey golf

course after high tides and strong winds caused 20ft deep sinkholes

along the edge of the course. And with no proper sea defence structure

in place, only an anti`tank fortification wall, there is also

damage to one of the bunkers. The storm and strength of the waves got

underneath the low foundations of this war, and as the Sea withdrew,

it sucks out the earth `` wall. Had it been purpose`built, the

foundations would have been deeper and it would not have occurred. It's

not just damage being caused. Vast amounts of rubbish and waste have

been washed up along the island s beaches. A big beach clear`up is

taking place at L'Etacq this weekend. The beaches have been worst

hit in the last couple of weeks with an excessive amount of rubbish. It

is important we clear up the beaches. Marine life can be badly

hurt by this rubbish. Back on the green, the first hole will remain

closed for the next weeks while repairs are completed. TTS have told

the club that they will continue to streghten the sea wall along the

east coast, a popular place not just for golfers, but for walkers, too.

The government minister tasked with clearing Garp have this message

There have been three or four substantial rock falls and we ask

people to take care. We aren't you for another storm. `` clearing up.

We have coastal engineers and teams on stand`by. We are prepared for

anything. Condor Ferries' direct services to St Malo from Guernsey

and Jersey are now cancelled into next week, because of the ongoing

strike by French crew. Talks to resolve the dispute have continued

today on board the Condor Rapide in St Malo. Workers want their

contracts changed from Guernsey terms to French ones. But Guernsey

States is not getting involved. The relationship is between the

employer, Condor, and staff. I believe they have a staff

Association. Although it does not have a union, there are mechanisms

for staff to raise an issue with the management. We would applauded

encourage them to go through that process. A controversial website run

by a former Jersey government minister has been suspended by the

internet search giant Google. Stuart Syvret has posted comments about a

number of issues, including child abuse, on his blog site for a number

of years. But Google says Mr Syvret's website violates its terms

of service. The former health minister was jailed for three months

last year for failing to turn up in court after being asked to take down

online allegations about four islanders.

Nurses in Guernsey have accepted a pay increase roughly in line with

local inflation. Nurses will get 2.1%, backdated to April 2013, and

2% over the coming year. Weekend trips to the bring`banks in Guernsey

will be a thing of the past from next month, as most recyclable items

will be picked up from the doorstep instead. And it will be a free

service for the first couple of years, at least.

Recycling ` it's coming to your doorstep next month and the Public

Services department want to make sure you're prepared. Islanders are

sent leaflets on the introduction of kerb`side recycling as well as match

is offering 20% off storage containers like these, which can be

used to separate recyclables at home. The idea is that, thinking

ahead, to the scheme, people will want to organise recycling in their

home. The idea is to make it easier. So they mail well be to purchase

containers to store the recycling. Kerb`side recycling is being rolled

out across the island as part of a two`year pilot scheme, with the hope

of combating the age`old problem of waste disposal. Paper, food tins,

plastic packaging and everything else you might take to a bring`bank,

aside from glass, will be collected from your door. They need paper and

cardboard and then plastic, tins and cans and milk cartons. They need to

sort it into two streams ready to put in the bags the collection.

Nearly half of all islanders currently recycle, but at the end of

last year, the States failed to meet its recycling target of 50%. But

with the introduction of kerb`side recycling, it is hoped that by 025,

70% of household waste produced in the island will be recycled.

Jersey's government is being asked not to sell an historic building in

the Royal Square. Piquet House is a former military police station and

has been owned by the States for centuries. The building is now under

offer, but Deputy John Young wants the government to keep it and

convert it community use. In talking to people it is clear there are

community organisations that would be keen on using it and in fact the

States itself, there are voluntary groups who said they would be

interested. I propose that the Treasury Ministry has 12 months to

check them out, see if he can come up with a leasing plan and hippy

camp, that is the way to go. I am back at `` if he can, that is the

way to go. Now the weather. Another windy day tomorrow and a day with

heavy rain in the forecast. It does not want to let up, it seems. Wind

up to 60 mph tomorrow and more rain. The forecast tonight is the

showers. Haps becoming largely dry, but there is a chance of a passing

shower, and it will be quite a cold night. Briefly dry weather in the

morning, but after lunch, this line of angry looking rain will come

through, as much as 20 millimetres. When that has gone, it will be

replaced by showers, and it will be windy throughout. Blustery on

Thursday. We will see showers. Friday, more wet weather from the

south. Also blustery showers on Saturday. A little bit quieter next

pick up. Thursday looks like a quieter day.

Good evening, a roller-coaster ride of weather continues across the

British Isles. We want to get off, but unfortunately we have got more

white knuckle rides to come. This area of low pressure is bringing wet

and extremely windy weather. It happens again on Friday with another

deep low moving in from the south-west. That means that

potentially over the next five days we could see as much a 60 - 80

millimetres of rainfall, among's worth in just five days. Before that

there are lots of tricky conditions out there at the moment. We have got

snow across Scotland and Northern Ireland. As these showers pushed

further inland and temperatures fall away, we could see snow at lower

levels as well. It is a similar story for South Yorkshire and into

Derbyshire and perhaps the Midlands. Even if we do not get the snow, and

we keep the showers, it will be a cold night, so that could lead to

icy stretches on the roads. That will pale into insignificance

because the wind is already picking up and an intense band of rain

continues to push in across the country. This time it will be a bit

There is an amber warning for the gusts of wind. Let's look at the

afternoon. In the Northern Isles and the far north of Scotland it is

quite quiet. Snow continues across the mountains and sharp showers in

northern Ireland and northern England. The winds pick up into the

North West and the South of Wales. The band of rain is still clinging

on to East Anglia and the Essex and Kent coasts. Blizzard conditions are

possible overnight in Scotland and on the higher ground. By Thursday

things potentially get a little quieter. There will be some showers

around, but wet and windy weather set to return as we move towards

Friday.
