Good evening. There's good news tonight for parents of young

children in Guernsey. The Education Department is proposing fred

pre`school education for all at a cost of around ?2 million a year.

Under the plans, children would get 15 hours a week of free education

for 38 weeks before they st`rt primary school. 15 hours a week at a

nursery like one in St Peter Port can cost up to ?400 a month. When we

filmed these children at Thd Monkey Puzzle Nursery last year, that's

what their parents were payhng. But now the Education Department wants

to bring Guernsey in line whth England and closer to Jersex where

all children receive some free nursery education. Yellow m`c we are

miles behind everywhere at the moment as far as preschool dducation

is concerned, we must catch up. If we get this thing through it is

still only a start. If you look statistics in Europe, we ard way

behind. It's proposing that all children would get 15 hours a week

of free education for 38 wedks in the year before they start primary

places to be offered by private pre`schools, which would be tested

for quality standards. But `t a cost of ?2 million a year, is it

risen by 1.7%, a lower figure than forecast for the first quarter of

of earners, the cost of livhng has risen more sharply, by 2%, over the

past year. Recorded crime ldvels in Jersey are at their lowest since

police started counting thel. The force's annual report shows there

were 3,172 recorded crimes hn 2 13. That's a drop of 17% on 2012. Jersey

police have had a busy year. Although the overall number of

recorded crime has dropped, the number of incidents officers are

called out to, has not. The good news is that theft and assatlt are

down. There has been a 32% drop in crime after nights out, a 30%

reduction in drugs offences and fewer burglaries. That is something

that has seen a rise. Road deaths and domestic violence are on the up.

There has been a 9% rise in the number of serious injuries compared

to 2012. The latter been a 05% increase in the. Three people died

last year including in this fatal accident, which killed a 42`year`old
