indecent assault against women an$ children. That's all fpom the BBC

children. That's all from the BBC News.

:00:00.:00:07.

Pharmacists in Guernsey monhtor the sale of over`the`counter drugs,

:00:08.:00:10.

after concerns they are being used to make a highly addictive drug

:00:11.:00:15.

Be more diverse ` the message to Guernsey and Jersey

:00:16.:00:18.

politicians from the first black woman to be elected as a UK MP.

:00:19.:00:27.

I think that if politicians in the channel islands look to the

:00:28.:00:34.

community and speak to people and are more diverse that will help

:00:35.:00:36.

people to engage with polithcs. And are we on the final turn in the

:00:37.:00:39.

long`running dispute over Plemont? Jersey's government prepare to

:00:40.:00:42.

debate spending millions of pounds to return this derelict

:00:43.:00:44.

site to nature. Pharmacists in Guernsey are

:00:45.:00:56.

monitoring people buying over`the`counter decongestants,

:00:57.:00:58.

like Sudafed, because of fe`rs they could be used to make a highly

:00:59.:01:02.

addictive drug called cryst`l meth. The tablet form contains thd

:01:03.:01:06.

chemical stimulant pseudo`ephedrine, Crystal meth is

:01:23.:01:27.

over`the`counter decongestants The chemicals that you have to use

:01:31.:01:44.

are quite toxic, so it is qtite harmful to your health to m`ke it.

:01:45.:01:49.

It is even more harmful to take it, because the drug has quite

:01:50.:01:52.

deleterious effects on your health and can produce serious changes to

:01:53.:01:55.

While most people buying decongestants over the counter are

:01:56.:01:59.

using them sensibly, the government is carefully monitoring salds to

:02:00.:02:03.

And it is images like this which remind us why

:02:04.:02:07.

Sophie Sulehria, BBC Channel Islands.

:02:08.:02:15.

Jersey Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman

:02:16.:02:17.

allegedly attempted to lead a young child away from her parents.

:02:18.:02:20.

It happen in the Royal Square yesterday,

:02:21.:02:22.

The woman, who is described as being around 50`years`old, was

:02:23.:02:27.

She then walked away towards Queen Street.

:02:28.:02:32.

Jersey Post managed to stay in profit last year

:02:33.:02:34.

They returned a ?1.25 million profit, helped,

:02:35.:02:40.

in part, by a large increasd in the number of parcels delivered.

:02:41.:02:44.

The overall business, though, has dropped by a half since the ending

:02:45.:02:47.

The first black women to be elected as a UK MP says politics

:02:48.:02:55.

in the Channel Islands would improve if a broader range

:02:56.:02:59.

Diane Abbot became a Member of Parliament nearly 30 years ago.

:03:00.:03:05.

She is in Jersey today to try and encourage more women to stand

:03:06.:03:08.

Currently only a fifth of Jersey's States members are female.

:03:09.:03:13.

Men speak because they liked the sound of their own voice. Women

:03:14.:03:26.

speak because they have somdthing to say.

:03:27.:03:27.

Just some of the advice Labour MP Diane Abbott gave

:03:28.:03:30.

She was the first black wom`n to be elected to the UK Parliament

:03:31.:03:33.

and wants to inspire these xoung women into politics.

:03:34.:03:39.

I think it was very interesting and motivational and inspiring or young

:03:40.:03:47.

girls to get an idea from someone who had been through the process. I

:03:48.:03:54.

have applied to study polithcs at university and taste very

:03:55.:03:56.

interesting. She said to kedp believing in yourself. You cannot

:03:57.:04:04.

doubt what you are doing. It is important for our generation to know

:04:05.:04:09.

that we can achieve highly. There is no difference between women or men.

:04:10.:04:13.

We are reaching an equal st`ge. Only one in five States members

:04:14.:04:15.

in Jersey are women. Yes. I would love to see more

:04:16.:04:28.

women. It is a better representation of the community, because that unity

:04:29.:04:34.

is half and half. It is stupid to waste the talents of half the

:04:35.:04:38.

talents of happy community. I think there is a stigma attached to women

:04:39.:04:45.

in work places. I think that the States have a certain amount of

:04:46.:04:49.

flexibility to allow women to come into politics.

:04:50.:04:51.

With an election looming later this year, Diane Abbot is hoping to

:04:52.:04:54.

inspire women to follow her example and change the political landscape.

:04:55.:04:57.

Well, a little earlier, Diane Abbott joined me

:04:58.:05:01.

in the studio and I began bx asking her how could more women get into

:05:02.:05:04.

I think women have to put themselves forward. You cannot be elected if

:05:05.:05:18.

you do not. We have to look at having a level playing field for

:05:19.:05:23.

women. What can be done to dncourage women. You met some students today

:05:24.:05:31.

who are interested in polithcs. How can they get into politics? These

:05:32.:05:39.

students were great and where wool of questions. I think it is very

:05:40.:05:54.

important that the boat. `` vote. And that people get active hn the

:05:55.:05:59.

community. Politics is what do you make of it. If more women gdt

:06:00.:06:04.

involved are politics will be improved. Turnout for electhons is

:06:05.:06:10.

historically low in the Channel Islands. What can be done to

:06:11.:06:17.

increase these figures? I think if the politicians spoke more like

:06:18.:06:22.

ordinary people and were more diverse it would help peopld to

:06:23.:06:28.

engage with politics. We have a large Portuguese and Polish

:06:29.:06:33.

committee in Jersey. How can these people get into politics? I think

:06:34.:06:39.

people from all backgrounds should engage. They have something to

:06:40.:06:50.

contribute and a life experhence. They issued make sure that they

:06:51.:07:04.

vote. There is a general eldction in Jersey coming up. Do you have any

:07:05.:07:08.

advice for women thinking of standing? Make sure that yot use

:07:09.:07:16.

your vote. Make sure that women get in there.

:07:17.:07:18.

Tomorrow, Jersey's government will vote on whether to give the

:07:19.:07:21.

National Trust ?3.5 million to buy the former holiday camp at Plemont,

:07:22.:07:24.

The Trust has wanted to rettrn the area to nature

:07:25.:07:30.

Could this be the final turn in the long`running dispute?

:07:31.:07:34.

The last attempt to buy this land and allow it to become part

:07:35.:07:39.

of the natural landscape fahled by just one vote.

:07:40.:07:43.

Many of those who voted against the plan argued that

:07:44.:07:46.

because the developer did not want to sell they were effectively

:07:47.:07:50.

Things are different now. There is no compulsory purchase. There is a

:07:51.:08:07.

fixed amount of money that the States is being asked to contribute.

:08:08.:08:13.

I think this is a sensible compromise.

:08:14.:08:14.

But with public spending under constant pressure,

:08:15.:08:16.

where will a cash`strapped government get the money from?

:08:17.:08:19.

The island's Treasury Minister wants to use money seized

:08:20.:08:22.

It would be very surprising if we did not say that it is diffhcult to

:08:23.:08:38.

find the 5p. We have done so through this route. But ultimately the

:08:39.:08:45.

assembly will decide. But not everyone is happy. It made le the

:08:46.:08:55.

letter of the law, but only just. I am interested to see what h`ppens

:08:56.:09:01.

tomorrow. They previously could not fund an inquiry into child `buse

:09:02.:09:03.

from this fund. Now, with a set price, no compulsory

:09:04.:09:11.

purchase, and such a close vote last time, it seems increasingly likely

:09:12.:09:16.

this headland will be entirdly But there is a big if ` can the

:09:17.:09:19.

States agree how to find thd money? You can hear that debate

:09:20.:09:23.

in the States tomorrow, You are watching the BBC

:09:24.:09:27.

in the Channel Islands. Later in Spotlight with Justin

:09:28.:09:32.

and Natalie: More footage emerges

:09:33.:09:33.

of the jellyfish invading bdaches. Jersey's Commonwealth Games team

:09:34.:09:40.

have picked up their team kht. The 40`strong team will compete

:09:41.:09:43.

in ten sports. Yesterday, they were given `dvice

:09:44.:09:45.

on competing at a major gamds One athlete not there was

:09:46.:09:48.

but was busy becoming the British He took the title with a se`son s

best throw of 60.38 metres. He also came second in the shot put,

:10:01.:10:04.

with an 18`metre throw. The weather is set to improve. At

:10:05.:10:27.

the moment there is some rahn and it will continue overnight. But the

:10:28.:10:39.

rest of the week will be drx. The high pressure determines who will

:10:40.:10:46.

see rain and who does not. Ht will come closer to ask overnight. Then

:10:47.:10:52.

it will move away towards the Mediterranean. Then high prdssure

:10:53.:11:02.

will follow. It will keep us dry through to the end of the wdek.

:11:03.:11:10.

Overnight, there will be sole rain. Temperatures, 14 Celsius. Tomorrow,

:11:11.:11:18.

a cloudy start and perhaps ` little rain. It will be dry by the

:11:19.:11:26.

afternoon with some sunshind. Temperatures, 18`19 Celsius. There

:11:27.:11:34.

will be easterly winds into the afternoon. Here are the timds of

:11:35.:11:51.

high water. For surfers, I think it will be clean. Two feet. Thdre is

:11:52.:12:05.

good weather for Wednesday. The wind will drop during the day. On

:12:06.:12:11.

Thursday, there will be mord cloud and perhaps a shower. It will stay

:12:12.:12:18.

dry until the end of the dax on Friday.

:12:19.:12:20.

Giant barrel jellyfish are still being seen in huge numbers

:12:21.:12:57.

The animals, which can be up to a metre in diameter,

:12:58.:13:01.

New video footage of Britain?s biggest jellyfish is currently

:13:02.:13:06.

proving to be a big hit on the internet.

:13:07.:13:09.

Spotlight?s David George has been to meet the man who captured

:13:10.:13:11.

This is the barrel jellyfish. It is huge! Up to one metre across and one

:13:12.:13:30.

and a half metres long. Hundreds of this usually rare sea creattre had

:13:31.:13:33.

been seen all along the south coast of Cornwall, Devon and Dorsdt. This

:13:34.:13:39.

was filmed in the Clearwater of the river. Matt Slater has filmdd the

:13:40.:13:47.

barrel daily fish. You are from the Cornwall Maritime trust. Yotr dog is

:13:48.:13:52.

important, too. You must be really pleased with this footage. H am

:13:53.:13:57.

It's amazing how many peopld have already viewed it. We have had over

:13:58.:14:02.

10,000 hits in a couple of days Talk to us about the movement of the

:14:03.:14:06.

jellyfish. They are very gr`ceful and that polls sates `` pulsates

:14:07.:14:14.

them along. They are actively swimming and hunting for food. They

:14:15.:14:20.

can't move along much, they drift with the tides, don't they? Yes

:14:21.:14:26.

They travel large distances up and down to the water. You get ` sense

:14:27.:14:33.

of stale `` scale because you filmed your dog swimming with them. It

:14:34.:14:37.

happened by accident that she swam through the shot. It gives xou an

:14:38.:14:42.

idea of the scale. They are 80 centimetres wide and they c`n be

:14:43.:14:45.

over one metre long, hanging down underneath them. It is quitd

:14:46.:14:53.

impressive. It is also some of each season, children and adults. Are

:14:54.:14:57.

they dangerous? You don't h`ve to worry. Fortunately, they ard

:14:58.:15:03.

completely harmless. All jellyfish are capable of stinging, but in the

:15:04.:15:09.

UK, the Sting cannot get through asking `` our skin. Just as well!

:15:10.:15:17.

This is a first year in a while they are seen in such numbers. Why they

:15:18.:15:22.

are seen in these numbers comes down to lots of different factors

:15:23.:15:25.

combine. This year has been a good year for this species, tempdrature,

:15:26.:15:31.

and under food, predators, has meant that they thrived. In other years,

:15:32.:15:38.

they don't. Let's talk about the predators of the giant barrdl

:15:39.:15:40.

jellyfish. That is leatherb`ck turtle. They were expected to arrive

:15:41.:15:47.

here, because the barrels are here. Somebody has seen some. Yes, we have

:15:48.:15:52.

had two sightings, one in F`lmouth and wanted the West. All although

:15:53.:16:01.

this jellyfish has almost bdcome common in the South West of this

:16:02.:16:06.

year only, wildlife trusts would do like to see reports of sightings.

:16:07.:16:10.

And if you see a leatherback turtle, that really would bd the

:16:11.:16:12.

icing on the cake ``. The owner of the Cornish Pirates

:16:13.:16:17.

rugby team is standing down Dicky Evans has been at the helm

:16:18.:16:20.

of the Pirates for nearly 20 years, providing funds to maintain

:16:21.:16:24.

the team's status in the second tier The businessman, who's now based

:16:25.:16:27.

in Kenya, has paid off all the Pirates? debts and written off

:16:28.:16:30.

all loans, leaving them debt free. A new board

:16:31.:16:33.

of directors will now run the club. The sacrifices

:16:34.:16:36.

and the bravery demonstrated during the First World War `re

:16:37.:16:38.

being remembered by communities across the region this year, 10

:16:39.:16:41.

years after the conflict st`rted. Almost every family was affdcted

:16:42.:16:45.

in some way, but one Dartmoor village believes it lost

a greater proportion of its enlisted Northlew has marked

:16:49.:16:52.

the anniversary with the help of a vintage aircraft and uniforms

:16:59.:17:01.

the poignant commemoration tnfolded. All eyes were on the sky as the

:17:19.:17:28.

men and women who flew with her It started an evening of commeloration.

:17:29.:17:34.

One very special guest, a Chelsea pensioner, evacuated to Northllew

:17:35.:17:41.

during the Second World War. For Brian, a meaningful return to the

:17:42.:17:47.

village. It's very important that children should know what h`s

:17:48.:17:51.

happened here, and how we British deal with this sort of thing. I

:17:52.:18:01.

think Northlew itself has a very good reason for wanting to do that

because so many people did not come back. I am sure many will bd

:18:36.:18:42.

respect the men who went to war and Ford. `` fought. The sun setting,

:18:43.:18:54.

The Last Post echoed through the village. A moment of contemplation.

:18:55.:19:03.

So well done, so poignant. So worth remembering. I think everyone thinks

:19:04.:19:07.

that. Quite moving really, to think about it. It was meant to bd the war

:19:08.:19:15.

to end all wars, but it didn't. Lots of people died. It is good to

:19:16.:19:25.

remember it. Then, through the dusk, a call to arms. 3`D images projected

:19:26.:19:31.

on to village buildings, brhnging home, quite literally, the scale of

:19:32.:19:34.

the tragedy to the watching audience. The noise, this ydar, the

:19:35.:19:45.

conditions may have been captured on grainy film, but it made thd reality

:19:46.:19:54.

of war very clear. Until finally, the piece. The roll call of fallen

:19:55.:20:08.

men, the whole village fell silent. Incredibly poignant. Stunning.

:20:09.:20:21.

A green fireball meteor seen over the UK has been captured on camera

:20:22.:20:25.

The pictures are in black and white. It is called a bolide meteor. Quite

:20:26.:20:44.

a big one. That was that 3al this morning. You needed to be up pretty

:20:45.:20:50.

early to see it. Whether we will see any more tonight, I don't know. But

:20:51.:20:57.

pretty clear skies. It's mostly dry, some sunshine. From Friday, quite a

:20:58.:21:03.

change. We see a new area of low pressure head our way. Some

:21:04.:21:07.

uncertainty about how much rain we are likely to see. There is clouded

:21:08.:21:12.

to the west of us, which has been producing some showers across

:21:13.:21:17.

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. It trickles southward, still a risk of

:21:18.:21:23.

seeing if you showers. It moves down towards the northern part of Spain,

:21:24.:21:28.

Portugal and western France. I the time you get the middle of the week

:21:29.:21:34.

it has died into the Mediterranean. A thin area of high pressurd, which

:21:35.:21:39.

brings Britain a love the fhne weather the end of the week. Even

:21:40.:21:44.

though weather systems approach from the West on Thursday, they week and

:21:45.:21:51.

they bring a band of cloud. This is the picture from earlier today, the

:21:52.:22:03.

cloud has been well broken. We got lovely shot of a kaleidoscope of

:22:04.:22:06.

clouds in the sky, someone was patchy. Plenty of dry weathdr for

:22:07.:22:12.

this part of Devon and Cornwall Further west, we have had a few

:22:13.:22:17.

showers. For most of us, it has been a reasonable day and quite warm in

:22:18.:22:25.

that sunshine. The cloud we have seen along the south coast will fade

:22:26.:22:30.

away for a time overnight btt it is still big enough to produce some

:22:31.:22:36.

showers. Most likely in the far west of Cornwall. Clear skies along the

:22:37.:22:43.

north coast Devon into Somerset For most of us, 13 of 14 degrees

:22:44.:22:49.

minimum. The cloud might be a bit stubborn along the English Channel

:22:50.:22:54.

coast, the main story is a fine dry weather with increasing amotnts of

:22:55.:22:58.

sunshine. The sun will come out for all of us, with some patchy cloud

:22:59.:23:07.

along the Channel coast. Thd Arles is a silly, briefly some `` Isles of

:23:42.:23:44.

Wednesday is a lovely day, plenty of sunshine. You have to get up early

:23:45.:23:52.

to see that. Sunshine to enjoy, and temperatures responding. Mostly fine

about that tomorrow. Thank xou for joining us at this later tile. We

nothing! And he's done even less! I'm not letting
